Fantastic App, With Minor Tweaks. This app is simply fantastic for learners of French, pretty much eliminating paper dictionaries for 99.9% of word look-up situations. Its strengths are (1) comprehensive word coverage (almost never do I encounter an unlisted word); (2) extensive examples of how each word is used in practice (critical to understand context); (3) complete verb conjugations; and perhaps most important: (4) the spoken recordings of the words and the examples. The recordings are really the heart of the product, as French pronunciation rules are confusing and difficult for us Anglophones to master. I was recently in Paris, and found the spoken recordings godsend to reduce the number of blank stares i usually get when trying to work out pronunciation of an unfamiliar word from the printed page. Like other commentators, i have experienced some balkiness. The "autofill" feature in the search bar sometimes dies when i try to search for a reflexive verb (s'+infinitive), requiring a compete reboot of the phone (i have an iPhone 5c) to restart it (The dictionary won't work without it). I also experienced complete shut-down of the sound recordings. This was fixed by (1) removing 1000+ pictures from my phone; and (2) re-installing the App. Its possible (1) alone would have done the trick. In any event, its back in operation now so I'm happy. Overall, i love this app!

Was good but now crashes every time. I really like this app and have enjoyed using to to learn french. For the last two days every time I try to have it pronounce a word the app crashes. It is still useful as a dictionary for sure but kind of wasteful to use so much space on my phone with sound files that don’t work. Please fix this problem. (Yes I’m on the most up to date version, but it wasn’t with a version update that it stopped working) :(

Comprehensive but buggy. This is a very comprehensive dictionary. However, it has not been updated for IOS 13 and is very buggy. For some reason I have more problems on my iPad. The app frequently crashes, and the pronounciation doesn’t work most of the time on my iPad.

Super bon!. Just tested this app out while on vacation in France (Dec 2010). As a college student with a minor area of study in French, I can attest to it's usefulness and completeness. The audio pronunciation was especially helpful for words with unfamiliar structure (or origin) and appears not to be computerized text-to-speech -- that is to say, the recordings are of actual human beings. The verb tables are to die for -- they have every tense of every verb. How I wish I could have had this while taking lower level classes! In this newest version you can touch any word on any page and it will take you to the entry for that word. Note that this product is extremely similar to the Larousse online English/Français dictionary with one notable difference: the app does not require an internet connection to function (except for the audio). I found that feature to have a lot of gravity in my decision to purchase this app since I only have an iPod Touch and my WiFi situation in France was iffy at best. Also note that this app DOES NOT contain the "Translating Tool" from the Larousse website.

Very useful. I've used this app for many years. It is my go-to dictionary for translating words and expressions. It is also fun to test my pronunciation by using the voice to text microphone on the azerty keyboard. However, I too am recently having the problem of crashing when requesting audio pronunciation (yes, on wifi.) Please fix! Last of all, a feature I would love would be to be able to print my list of bookmarked words so I could quiz myself.

Needs audio fix. The audio function does not work at all on IPad although is currently working on IPhone. If Larouse would address audio problem they would have a superior product.

good iPhone version of paper dictionary. It's very complete. It looks up words and offers idiomatic phrases very nicely, but it does not let you look up conjugated verb forms. If you are unfamiliar with English and see the word "is", you are just going to have to guess the root verb form and hope you get lucky. I assume that this is because the iPhone doesn't have the computer power to search verb conjugations as well as well as dictionary entries. Maybe they'll add this for the iPhone 5 version.

One of the worst apps out there. Purchased this dictionary hoping it will stand to its name. Try searching for “peux” — no matches. Try listening to the pronunciation of words — the app crashes.

Wish the History worked better. I love this app. Use it daily. Lots of features that take a while to discover. Two suggestions. - wish the History was sorted the other way, showing most recent searches first. - there’s something not right about the ergonometrics on this. Try to use it one-handed, holding the phone, and you’ll see. The developers should try that, and see if the controls could be arranged for easier use, or have layout options.

The best. Not only the best French/English dictionary app out there, but one of the best app purchases I have ever made. Comprehensive and easy to use.

Always helpful. I have this open quite often as I search for a word in French or figure a translation into English. It has a simple design that really works for me.

Excellent!. It is really fast! It has a very large collection of words! I really appreciate the IPA. Many of the other dictionaries in the App Store don't have IPA. Many of the other dictionaries also store the words on a server and access them via Internet, which is not as fast and reliable as storing them on the device itself (as this app does)! In short, this dictionary app just works really well.

Pretty good but audio streaming has stopped working. The app is vey comprehensive and helpful. Jumping back and forth between English <-> French is great. Sometimes I see a word in French but need to know what it means. The UI is a bit funky and can be challenging to figure your way around.. The audio pronunciations are great to have as well (when it works!) The audio streaming has stopped working now for the last two days out of the blue. It used to work fine. There is nothing wrong with my wireless connection as it has been tested and everything else that accesses the internet works on the iPod. This is one huge gripe with software co.'s as far as I'm concerned, because you pay, you get what you get, and when it stops working you won't get your money back! The software industry is the only industry I know that does this. Blows big time and is totally unfair. Normally every other business would refund your money for something that doesn't work after you bought it. Not them! You get a finger - FU!

Abandonware?. This was a great product at a great price back in the day, but it desperately needs updating. On an iPad, support for split view is essential, but missing.

Useless if you want to hear pronunciation. Keeps crashing when I want to hear the pronunciation of many words. That is such an important function for someone who is trying to learn a language. Think I will look for something more reliable.

Bad interface, crashes constantly. I bought this app since I use the Larousse website pretty frequently. The website has some serious issues and I'm not sure why I thought this app would be any different. The user interface is not horrible, but could definitely use some help. The worst part about this app is that it crashes CONSTANTLY. As a student whose classes are all in French, I bought this app for heavy use. I was prompted to write this review because it has crashed 4 or 5 times in the past hour of trying to use it to read a book that I'm writing a paper on. Way more than any other app I've ever used. This dictionary is so frustrating I'm actually considering shelling out $30 for the Collins app since I need something more reliable that I can use without I making me want to through my phone out a window. I wouldn't spend the money again if I had it to do over.

Could be better but works.. Would be great if the products world work together. I own this translation dictionary and the French dictionary and wish they were in app purchases inside one framework. I agree with others that any verb form should be searchable. I also think the audio should support both directions. Currently you can only listen to the French word and English translated usages. If you want the French audio you must go to the web site. If you try to go to the English word you can listen to French usages but they are not the same as the ones for the French word. But here's why I write the review. Lookup this word: lequel. Laquelle refers you to lequel and lequel is blank. Having a blank definition is quite inexcusable since I'm sure it is quite easy for these guys to search their dictionary and cleanup stuff like that even if they can't manage to build a nice user interface for a mobile device or do any good integration between their apps. Keep at it. I'm still looking forward to additions and I don't mind paying. Just do the work and keep it clean. Add a support link in the app so I can notify of problems there instead of using the review to complain, please. Please also add some features and try to make some money with in-app additions, flash cards, printable or emailable tests, downloadable audio, social commentary, etc. Thanks and to those thinking about another dictionary, buy this one. I like it best of the ones I've purchased despite the mistakes.

Pronounced crash app. I ask to hear the word and the app crashes. Is this supposed to work?

Audio issues!. I've been using this app on my iPad for about three months. Everything was great until these past two updates. When I click on the speaker sign for most words, I don't hear anything (it's quite annoying!). Such a feature was one of the reasons I bought this app in the first place. I wanted to rate this app five stars but this problem needs fixing for this to happen. Please, fix that so I can continue enjoying the app!

Impossible to enter reflexive verbs from ipad. None of the four keyboards I have installed on my ipad can produce an apostrophe that the app recognizes, so I can no longer enter french reflexive verbs, for example s’agir. Why not have it accept ANY style of apostrophe?

Why there is no dark mode ?. Why a great name like larousse doesn’t integrate dark mode that automatically switches with the iphone by night, this will relax eyes and make us sleep better and it saves the battery amd gives a very inovative look to the app...

Disappointed. If you translate from English to French you get only English grammar. You have to then copy the French word and reverse the search to get the French conjugation. Lack of imagination on the developer's part. This problem is worse. A search for a conjugated form of a French word comes up empty. It's like if you typed to an English dictionary 'goes' and got no result. You have to know the 'infinitif' form of a French verb, which makes translating very difficult. That's laziness on the developer's part.

Extrememly thorough, detailed dictionary. With a moderate price, the Larousse dictionary delivers an indisputably concise dictionary for a fair price. The conjugator is wonderful tool in cases of emergency or uncertainty, much as the pronunciation button in both languages. My only suggestion would be to allow the user to click words within the results to start another search. For example, I put in "handstand" (being a gymnast, wanting to know the term in french) and the result came up "appui renversé". Don't have to be a genius to understand the second term, but I was uncertain of "appui". I attempted to click on it, but had to start another search instead of being able go right to it with a simple tap. A rather minute but useful addition would be a "favorites" or "need to learn" list that the user could save new words to. The history function is similar but shows all past results rather than the ones that the user feels are most needed for them. Other than that, the dictionary is undoubtedly user-friendly and makes for a wonderful all-in-one dictionary with comprehensive definitions!

failing. the support doesn’t respond and pronunciation has stopped working

Good dictionary.. Very helpful and I like the feature of having the spoken language, as well. I hope it gets updated soon!

Pronunciation feature doesn’t work. I chose this over one of the free dictionaries because I wanted a reliable resource for pronunciation, but every time I try to use it, there’s an error message saying the sound file timed out. I’ve checked for updates, rebooted the phone and the app. Still doesn’t work.

Recent update less legible. The type is smaller and lighter and much less easy to read. Why? It's very annoying.

Pronunciation button crashes. Liked this app until with the latest iPhone version everytime I push the pronunciation button for an entry it crashes. Not acceptable. Support link didn’t work either.

Keeps on crashing!. Every time I try to listen to the pronunciation, the app will just crash. I don’t understand why the developer has been failing to address this. Do we have to write our reviews in French?!

No problems, worth the money. I got this app to assist me during a year-long exchange to France because I was impressed with the accuracy and abundance of context in the Larousse online dictionary. This app works very well and is a much faster resource than the website. Very accurate. For people concerned with playing the French pronunciation, the you can play it if you have the dictionary in French->English. Will write a follow up after some time in France.

I loved the dictionary til.... the pronunciation icon stopped working. I don’t mind that you can’t look up reflexive verbs, I can manage, but pronunciation is so important!

App Crashes. My college French professor had this app on our required materials list so I purchased it without checking reviews. The app is useless for me because it crashes every time I search a word or try to play the audio pronunciations. Apple won’t let me request a refund either so that’s just money down the drain.

Great dictionary, but please tweak the History Delete button. As another reviewer of a previous version mentioned, the direction of translation (English to French, or vice versa) should stay in the direction last used between uses of the app. It always defaults to English to French, which is a time-wasting inconvenience to me since I am most frequently looking for a translation from French to English. With this version, they fixed the list of words in the History to stay chronologically sorted from earliest-looked-up to latest-looked-up, instead of the previous buggy behavior of changing chronological direction each time the list is accessed. It would be nice if they would offer a sorting direction option; I would prefer chronologically descending instead of ascending. Please change the History feature's Delete button to say "Delete All", which is what it in fact does, and also prompt for confirmation. I was expecting that tapping it would allow me to choose which entries I wanted to delete, but Boom, all my History entries were gone. It is still a great dictionary, and I use it often.

Bookmark?!. This is a great dictionary but arrange bookmark is very bad. It’s arranged word with alphabet😳. Please fix this problem, bookmark should arrange with history added because user can review word easily.

No longer supported, bugs. Do not waste your money. Apparently this app has not been kept up to date and has become a bit unusable. This was my favorite app for so many years. Now I’m scouring the App Store for another one since the developers are letting this one lag. Don’t waste your money at this point.

Please Fix the App!!. This dictionary has been very useful. But the prononciation function has stopped working. The app crashes every time I press the pronunciation icon. Please fix this bug!!

Best English/French dictionary out there!!. I've tried most of the other dictionaries on the app store (even the really expensive overpriced ones) and this one is far and beyond my favorite! Being able to "favorite" words is a gem and a feature many of the other dictionaries fail to implement (or implement poorly). I love the inclusion of common expressions - it makes it really easy to find which usage of a word you're really looking for. Also love the fact that this is a universal app - and for $6 this app is a steal!! Anyone considering some of the other dictionary apps out there - don't. This is it (trust me, I've tried them all).

Good, but flawed. This is probably the best app I have used for English/French translations. As someone who completed 3yrs. of French in prep school, it helps me refresh my dis-used skills. A significant problem is that the verbal pronunciations only work with a Cellular Data connection on my iPhone, not my home WiFi connection.

not as good as it was. As others have said, reflexive verbs are missing. trying to listen to a word causes a crash. I have found that it “loses” its connection tonthe underkying dictionary DB from time to time and then only displays the first 25? or so words from a search. Hard closing the app restores access. I am now using a different french dictionary app.

The best. The best English French dictionary app ever🙏

Great dictionary; Problem with search functions. I love this dictionary and use it everyday. It has a ton of idioms and expressions that are super useful and mostly accurate. I have some French friends who disagree with the meanings of certain phrases but that’s to be expected. Overall a great dictionary. My main caveat with it and why I only give it four stars: I have a lot of trouble searching for verbs that begin with “se” or “s’”. For whatever reason the app sometimes (most times) refuses to allow me to search for verbs like that. It will say there are no results. I’ve tried restarting and reinstalling and it never seems to work. The search function works great otherwise and I have absolutely no other issues when searching for verbs that aren’t prenominal. I would love for this feature to be more reliable since a verb that takes an “se” or “s’” in front of it often has a different meaning than the root verb and I can’t search to confirm it.

Pronunciation guide useless. The app crashes every time I try to hear the French pronunciation. And this is the reason I purchased this app. No refund?

Great app! (but be aware audio uses internet). This is an outstanding dictionary for the price! Very complete and the conjugations are very useful. The app uses the internet to play audio, so if you are traveling and are worried about international data use, don't play the audio. Also, for those of us whose eyesight isn't great, the font size is quite small in portrait mode, although thankfully you can rotate your iPhone to landscape mode and the font size gets a lot bigger (or pinch to zoom, although instead of increasing font size, it just zooms in which means you need to scroll to read things properly). Update: Another complaint is that very few of the conjugated verbs seem to be available when looking up words in French. A common example: "suis" (1st person of être) exists, but other forms I tried (sommes, êtes, sois, etc.) do not. I'm not sure why this capability is not there since they have all of the conjugations available. Looking up verbs in conjugated form is one strength of an electric dictionary, and I find it extremely useful (especially for irregular verbs, or when you are a beginner in the language and don't remember all of the conjugation rules). What is confusing about this is that the hypertexted words in the text does work even if the dictionary lookup does not (i.e. if you see an example sentence with a conjugated form of a verb, you can click on it and you will be taken to the entry for that verb, but typing in the same word to look it up does not work).

Has become buggy. I’ve used this dictionary with pleasure for several years. In the last few months, I’ve been unable to look up reflexive verbs with an initial vowel—- type in s’ followed by the verb gets a not found message. Se plus vowel still works. As of today, tapping the pronunciation icon causes the ap to close. The ap is updated. These problems undercut the usefulness of the dictionary

Very disappointed. Purchased the app a few years ago, the sound stopped functioning a month later. The updates are not supported even the newer versions are available.

Not as good as it was. Sound feature does not work.. Updating my review. I give it three stars now. Pronunciation is not working. I give it six stars. It is excellent. ------------ Six years since I bought it and I still see it as the best English-French dictionary. I use it every day.

S’ no longer working. The app will not work for the S’ reflexive verbs. It only lists up to s’abuser. This is also true for the French only Larousse, the App Linguee, and le Robert Dixel. S’ reflexive verbs will work in Word Reference. Once I updated my iPhone and iPad beyond 9.??, the French Reference apps stopped working for S’ reflexive verbs. Why?

Very good, Needs a change to make it great. This is a very good app especially for the price. The app costs much less than the printed volume would, and it is also much more useful. The definitions are topnotch and it is easy to use. There are, however, two missing features that keep this app from being great. If you look up an English word to find the French equivalant, you can't click on the French word to get the definition and usage. You have to remember the word and then go back to the beginning and look it up in French. It is very annoying!!! The other feature that would be nice would be the ability to figure out misspellings. If you misspell a French word, it doesn't know what it is, and you have to look it up in English and then go back and look it up in French. It would be great if the app suggested possibilities that are similar like a spell checker does. Overall, though, It is very good for the money. I have found it very very useful and a great lifesaver when I attempt to write in French. Best of all, it is with me everywhere!

Sound problems with 4.02. This is an excellent dictionary, but since updating to iOS 4.02, I find that I can no longer get pronunciations. Clicking on the sound button does not work. I believe this is an OS problem because I also have a Spanish dictionary (from a different publisher) which used to give pronunciations, and no longer works under the upgraded system.

The best online dictionary for the price. I currently own the Advanced and Concise LaRousse English-French dictionaries in paper format, so I was pleased to see that it was available as an ipod app. (Why it's not higher on the list, I don't know) I think it's the most comprehensive dictionary for the price and it gives lots of real life phrases and examples. Verb conjugations are also included. I find the navigation really easy and the text in the examples is also hyperlinked, so if you're stumped on a word in one of the examples, just click it to be taken to that word in the dictionary. You can also "bookmark" entries for later. I can find only two small gripes: 1) you cannot search conjugated verbs as words. For instance, if you type "fut", it doesn't tell you that it's the Simple Past (Past historic) of the verb etre as it does in the paper version. This is not usually a problem with regular verbs but it can be a little bit problematic with irregular verbs. Fortunately, there aren't that many irregular verbs in French. 2) Only the English translations of the French phrase examples are spoken. You can hear individual words pronounced in French, but not the phrases.

Good, needs update. Great dictionary with good sized word bank. Seriously NEEDS AN UPDATE. 1) Make the dictionary stop returning to portrait whenever it is closed. If you switch apps then come back, you have to tip the iPad to return it to normal. 2) allow searching of verbs that have been conjugated 3) allow searching for all different forms of adjectives, including plurals and different genders. Great dictionary, but sad to see it's been neglected for two years now. Get on it!

Underwhelmed. No support / Troubleshooting available on app. Can't work out why sound doesn't work, so far disappointed I spent my money on this dictionary. Also mobile apps section on website is unresponsive.

Useful dictionary, lazy interface. This is as good a dictionary as you wouldexpect, but the user interface is shoddy and poorly thought out. - it does not remember if you were last searching for English to French or French to English - it plays a time wasting animation whenswapping between languages - it seems a bit odd to have to tap to bring up a keyboard when text entry is what you're going to be doing constantly when you use the application - the text entry section is tiny and crammed up the top. Of the screen. This would be fair enough for iPhone but could be better on iPad. Nothing terrible here, but I feel there are missed opportunities.

Problem with iOS 9.2 & sound files. Good app but since update to iOS 9.2 click on sound icon crashes app

I love this app!!!. I love this app!!! Thank you! Returning with 5 stars after my regretable 3 star 'why!' review only a few days ago. The sound was back the next day. Learning French as an adult I find the La Rousse dictionary app indispensable. I love everything about it. It is user friendly, I love the layout, the examples of use of the words, the conjugation and most of all it's simplicity! I have tried other apps and, for me, they can be over complicated and messy. Understand others wanting this and that but, this is a dictionary not a grammar book. Thank you team! Whatever you do, please, keep it simple! Simply the Best!

Great app mostly. This is an easy to use app but sadly it still sometimes crashes when you try to listen to the French audio

Please fix the audio. I used to love this dictionary but the audio always crashes now. I thought the software people would fix it but this has been going on for a long time. Larousse- Please update and fix the audio!

Super content! Very happy!. Cet appli marche super bien! Il a presque toutes les traductions pour les mots et ça montre toutes les conjugaisons des verbes! This application works really well. It has almost all the word translations and shows all the verb conjugations! Great dictionary! Bon dictionnaire!

Terrible!!!. Bad range and the sound doesn't work. Total total wast of money

Very much improved, great app!. My review for the previous version is included below, but I've just received version 2.0, and I need to say straight away that the application is much much better, even though it was already my most used iPod app. These are the improvements I like: * ability to bookmark a word - previously the dictionary kept a history of searched-for words, but now you can very easily keep a list of words you specifically choose. That's good for those words I need to try to remember, which is a subset of those that I look up. * the problem with the reflexive verbs ("egarer" was my example, though I meant "emparer") seems to have been fixed. The entry for the reflexive and non-reflexive form seems to have been merged, which makes much more sense. * when I go back from a search it takes me to that word in the whole list of words. That solves the problem of tapping on the wrong word, and lets me easily look up related words. * in the list of words, the part of speech is given. That allows entries for words that are spelled the same but are different parts of speech to be separated. I think that's a good feature. * the app is generally prettier. * turning the app on its side turns it around and makes the text bigger. For my older friends, that's exactly what they need, though as they previously admired my dictionary they couldn't see it very well. Overall, this looks like a great set of improvements to make a great app. As a programmer myself, I respect the effort that the developers have gone to to enhance the usability of the application, and I can now say that this is an electronic dictionary worthy of the Larousse name. ----- I use this dictionary to look up words while reading French books. It's quite useful for that, and certainly has more definitions than the pocket-sized dictionaries I own. I appreciate that it has a history of the words I've looked up so I can return to them later to study them. However, there are some glaring omissions in the definitions. For example, there's an entry for "egarer", but no definition. That's a common word that every dictionary has, and it should be embarrassing to the producers of this app that I have to put the iPod down to look up a word in the pocket dictionary. The interface is quite good, though I can suggest some improvements. I always look up English translations of French words, but the dictionary starts up searching for English words. If I'm reading a French text on the iPod, that's another thing I need to change every time I look up a word. If the app remembered that setting across invocations I'd be slightly happier. Also, every time I go to the search field it's cleared so I need to type in then whole word again. That's a pain if I typed it wrong the first time and just want to make a correction, or if I look up several related words in a row. Finally, the quality of the entries varies wildly, even considering that some are completely empty. Some entries have many meanings and examples of usage for each, some have a very bare translation. It's as if the dictionary content has been attacked by termites. That's not at all what I would expect from Larousse, one of the very respected names in European dictionaries. Overall, I'm quite pleased with this app, as it has almost completely replaced my portable dictionaries. However it could easily have been a great application rather than just a good one, and I'm quite mystified as to why it is not.

Excellent dictionary but crash prone. I love the conjugator and the examples offered to help get the sense of a word. It is indispensable in my learning of French. I really like the expressions offered and since la parler quotidien is full of expression, it very useful. Problem is it tends to crash. Perhaps it does so when my phone switches between wifi, no wifi and mobile network. The home page has a greyed talk bubble rather than a French/English flag. When it does, I have to close it and restart. Also, it is missing the translation for laquel.

excellent work-horse. I have used this app for years, as a student and a tourist. My main French tool.

No sound/pronunciation. A lovely app- I'm studying French in France- use it all the time. However , it would be even better if the sound worked

Best French/English Dictionary ever!. For the price, this app can't be beat. The layout is easy to use, fast lookup and excellent cross reference lookup between english and french. An all round good app for spelling and word translation.

iPad Multitasking Support Please. I am currently learning french and this is an amazing dictionary. I currently have to switch between apps all the time but it would be great if I can have a tiny docked window of this app next to any other app that I am using. Thanks!

love this app. I have tried several different french/english dictionaries, and this is by far the best one. It conjugates all the verbs too and is also significantly cheaper than the oxford dictionaries. I definitely recommend this app.

Good value. This is excellent value and very useful. I like the conjugation section for a quick reference. This really puts paper dictionaries in the past, convenient to carry, quick to look up and you get help with pronunciation. Brilliant, it is worth every cent. I will be recommending it to my fellow french students.

Best French-English app. Definitely worth the money. This is the one app you need if you're learning French or travelling to France. I've been using this for the past 2 years but I want to see a couple of things in the coming updates: • a makeover • a feature which makes it easier to search idioms and expressions in both languages

Anthony. The sounds do not work on the app, as other users have complained, and an email to Larousse raising this has not yet been responded to. It otherwise looks great.

Good but could be improved (it. As you'd expect from Larousse, comprehensive in breadth; but not so much in depth. I would have liked to see more of the details for which Larousse is famous. The App. is 23 mb. Not large by the measure of iPhone dictionaries, so they could have afforded to be a bit more verbose (more 'cooccurrances', perhaps citations, synonyms and antonyms). The main design fault is the lack of inter-linkage. This has the curious effect that the 'pronunciation' is backwards; if you search through the English side of the dictionary to find a French equivalent, the pronunciation offered is of the ENGLISH word. What use is that? The solution to this is to hyperlink the definition terms to their French language counterpart (so, you look up 'aunt', you get 'tante' and the word 'tante' is a hyperlink to the definition in the French side of the dictionary where the pronunciation of 'tante' is available). The program is not as responsive as it should be (on my 32mb GS, OS 3.x). Not bad by any means but slow for the first couple of letters in the progressive 'look-up'. I recommend it for the price/value ratio. But not as highly as I would if these two shortcomings were corrected. Here's hoping for Version 1.1. UPDATE: On my GS the Conjugation screen is cut off half way and won't scroll. Half the tenses are missing. Disappointing.

No sound. Disappointing that the sound does not work.

Not complete enough. I search for 'avez' but it can't find it. I know this is part of the verb avoir, which is in the dictionary. If I can't search on the conjugated verb parts then it is lacking. Please strengthen the search so searching for something like avez brings up the root verb avoir.

Easy to use. Much quicker way to look up words than using their website. I was pleased to find that it also includes search history and conjugation. Excellent value.

Buggy- crashes to often. Disappointed in the crashing. Ok otherwise.

Quick 24 hour fix in response to problem. Thank you for fixing bug that had begun to crash my app when pressing audio button. Otherwise no issues for the past year. Love this app, with superb pronunciation in audio recordings. Terrific depth in translations and examples of use in everyday French.

Need update!. Use it since one year or so and there is a lot of bugs and no one update! Otherwise it's a good dictionary.

Not as good as Harrap’s Shorter. This is a decent dictionary for the price. However, Harrap’s Shorter, also made by Larousse, is significantly more comprehensive, has all the same features, and has additional types of content. It also has adjustable font size, which this one does not. The Harrap’s is clearly the better dictionary.

Search broken. Would be five stars but unfortunately the search function seems to be broken. Many common words simply don't show up.

The pronunciation is not working!!! Very disappointed!!!. Why is not fixed? Paid decent money for this app!!

Synonyme antonyme. Plz update with synonyme and antonyme

Worth the price. This dictionary has many example phrases for each word. Within a phrase, you can tap on a word to see its definition. You can use the bookmark feature to create a study list, which can be a surprisingly addictive activity. Shows masculine and feminine forms of each adjective.

Mise à jour?. À quand une mise à jour pour iOS 8 et 9. L'app mériterait d'être optimisée aussi.

Great app for those learning English or French. Gives great references I haven't found anywhere else, differences between US and British English and is free!

Don't waste your money. I purchased this app because it comes from Larousse (which has a solid reputation) and the reviews looked pretty good. I regret that I did because I feel like I just wasted my money and am quite disappointed. The biggest drawback for me is you can only search a verb if you know it by name. For example, take the verb "être" (to be). If you're reading something and you see the verb "être" conjugated, such as "vous êtes" and you search "êtes", nothing comes up. How can a French/English dictionary be useful if you can't find a verb from its conjugated form? To Larousse: what you put out there is a reflection of your brand, and unfortunately this app does not do your brand any justice. Please fix it or remove the app from the market.

Fast, easy to use, comprehensive. I'm very pleased by this app each time I use it (a few times a month). Great to have the additional phrases and the audio pronunciations. Well worth the money.

Mise à jour requise. Une mise à niveau de tout vos dictionnaire bilingue serait fort appréciée.

Most helpful resource. This is by far the most useful reference / resource for my French learning. The ability to hear pronunciation of the words in French is a tremendous help. I only have two wishes on my wish list: 1) We can only search for verbs in the infinity form. It would be a great enhancement if the dictionary allows us to search for verbs in whichever conjugated form, as I often do not know the infinity of the verbs. For example, I can't find "sois" and would never have guessed its infinity is "être". 2) At present the pronunciation of sentences given in the examples are in the opposite language. So if I search for the meaning of a French word, say, "souhait", I am given the pronunciation of "souhait" in French; but the examples such as "si je pouvais formuler un souhait / If I had one wish" are read in English only. I wish it would read the French sentence. Overall I would still strongly recommend this App.

Excellent en tous points. Excellent et complet

Could be a good dictionary. Unfortunately the interface is exceptionally slow, and more importantly, the dictionary contains many, many empty entries: words or expressions that show up when you search, but when they are selected reveal an empty page. Pronominal verbs are especially glitchy, with many common ones seemingly linking to empty fields in a database.

The pronunciation is not working. Could you someone fix it? Thanks.

Suddenly sound not working / ❤️❤️ app. I really LOVE this app, but just today (4 Apr 18) the sound stopped working. Could you please fix. J’aime cette application mais soudainement la sonne ne fonctionne pas de tout. SVP la réparez.

No sound and many words are missing. The sound is not working, and the nobody is fixing it. Also, not the most comprehensive dictionary.

Good Text. AUDIO does not work on iPad AIR. Great text. I purchased this last night. But I am so disappointed that the audio does not work on the iPad AIR. It is so important to hear the word pronounced properly. PLEASE fix this so that the AUDIO works in the app for the iPad! We are getting only half the app for the full price.

Don’t bother with this app .... If you search for a reflexive verb starting with a vowel, you will not find any beyond the first page that is displayed. Therefore, there are hundreds of words that can not be searched for! Even although this dictionary has an easy to use layout, a good verb conjugation table and detailed information listed for it’s entries, I have to give it a poor rating for this incompleteness. It will work nicely for the english tourist visiting France but if you’re looking for a resource to use while studying and learning the French language ... consider one of the other options out there.

Missing features. Should be able to export/email/share the starred/bookmarked words and their definitions.

Audio does not work on ios 9. Support, please look into the audio issue on ios 9. The app exits out if you try to play the audio for any word. Thanks.

Regret to purchase. Pronunciation not working. App without pronunciation is crap. Go fix it.

Super!!. Il fait plus que traduire le mot, pour une bonne compréhension il le met en contexte dans des phrases et traduit aussi ces phrase. Il a aussi la conjugaison des verbes dans les deux langues. Il conserve également un historique des mots traduits. Tout ce fait hors-ligne sauf pour la prononciation des mots qui faut être branché sur Internet. Il m'est très utile, il vaut son prix et je le recommande .

No audio. There is no pronunciation audio. It's not working.

Good dictionary but not optimized for retina iPad. This dictionary is not optimized for the retina display iPad. The main launch icon is fuzzy and the audio pronunciation icon is extra fuzzy. Just cosmetics, but if this could be fixed (just change the graphics), I would give it 5 stars instead of 4. This app apparently has not been updated for almost two years (as of August 2012).

Good, but need improvements. The written part is very good, but the spoken pronunciation has lots to be improved: 1) it should be all part of the app (doesn't matter if it becomes heavy) and not to rely on net connection; 2) the sound should come up even when the phone is mute (annoying have to set the mute off all the time); 3) the pronunciation takes too long to be recalled again (keep pressing the button many times before the app speaks again); 4) would be nice if there was an explanation about the phonetic symbols accessed by touching the phonetic written (always forget it n like when it can be done). These ideas are all possible to be implemented, I use an En dictionary which have them all n they work great. This app would be 5*s if it could work that way!

Excellent app worth much more than a buck!!. Especially because its offline this app is a must for anyone looking for an exhaustive translator

Décevant. Beaucoup de mots manquent à l'appel. Décevant pour une application payante. Ce n'est pas digne d'un Larousse. J'espère que l'application va être vite corrigé.

Crashes when asked for pronunciation. No update?

One problem. Love this app, I use it daily, maybe hourly. Audio works fine. Bookmarks however disappear after a while. I have about 40 words bookmarked but there should be 400+.

Very good and cheap. I like this app a lot. It has audio pronunciation, bookmarks, conjugations, examples. All what is needed. The only thing I recommend for an update is the ability to search for a verb in any form as I face this issue some times when am looking for a verb and don't know it's original form. Love the app. And love the last update with bookmark organization. For this price, completely recommended.

Bon mais.... Un gros défaut : il ne reconnait pas les participes passés des verbes anglais. Par exemple il donne aucune entrée pour caught qui est le participe passé du verbe catch.

Very comprehensive!!!!. French-English translation with all the conjugations possible as well as sound! Seriously amazing!! Merci merci!

Very useful app...but. Have loved this app for a long time and use it daily, but since IOS 9.0.2 there is a bug that closes the app if you try to use the audio feature. Please fix.

Updated version?. LOVE the dictionary itself, but why is it so damn slow? Typing the word in the search box takes a while since it freezes at every letter. I think that should be looked into.

Nice!. Very thorough and thought out dictionary. Every word in the text is clickable for easy definition lookups, and there are lots of examples of word use as well as all the conjugations imaginable. I only have two things to whine about so far: 1. The buttons for word pronunciation are, IMO, unnecessarily large and clutter up the interface quite a bit. An often used word contains quite a few buttons for listening to audio recordings which makes it all look like endless speaker bubbles floating in a sea of text. Rather hard to focus on the text itself. 2. As the other reviewer mentioned, it would be extremely useful to be able to search for verbs by typing in any one of their forms, and not just the infinitif. As a new French student, I have a tough time with the irregular verbs, and figuring out the infinitif of the verb to search for given a sentence or a text can be quite problematic at times. This would be the best addition I can think of to make this dictionary a truly ideal learning tool, and the only reason I've given a 4 rather than a 5. Will absolutely vote all 5 if (when right? :D) this feature shows up. Pretty please! Very good job overall though. Quite worth its price.

OS update. An OS update is required urgently. Latest is for iPhone5 dated 2013.

Buggy app. App is buggy. Stops retrieving words after searching for about 50 words. Requires reset.

Nice app but needs a default language. This app is very useful and comprehensive. However I always have to switch to "French to English" an additional tap each time. Surely it would be easy for the program to remember your last search language and automatically present it?

Larousse dictionary. I recently took a French language course. At the beginning of the course I was provided with a file box of reference texts and notes. I had no previous french language knowledge, and the Larousse app replaced every single one of the references in that box. I used this single app throughout a 10 month intensive course, and achieved higher results than others who used the textbooks. Thank you Larousse, je veux vous remercier, je l'apprécie énormément!

Search does not find verb conjugations!!!. Look up 'fus', cannot find it. It is passé simple of être. Search cannot find any verb conjugations, just the infinitive. That's a big problem! Exporting or somehow getting the bookmarked list to my computer would be nice. Aside from that, nice app. Definitions solid, easy to understand interface. But, the search issue mentioned is huge issue. So much so that I'll probably end up using another app as I was looking for a one stop French English app for all my needs. I don't care that 'fus' doesn't show up in search, but it should at least redirect me to être.

Crash. When click to pronounce the french word dictionary shuts off

audio disappointment. It's very useful for times when I do not have Internet service. But the main reason I bought this was for the audio which simply does not work.

Crash when click ‘sept’. Every time when clicking to play pronunciation for word ‘sept’, the app crash. Both iPhone and iPad mini 5.

Much yet to improve. First, the audio doesn't work. Next, going to "support" ends in a 404 error. Finally, and most importantly, I would like to see synonyms and antonyms after each definition. Often, the word one knows isn't the the word one wants; having synonyms allows one to use the words one knows to search indirectly through related synonyms for a more suitable word and aids tremendously in learning. Good dictionaries have done this for a very long time, and updating your database to augment definitions this way would be a relatively easy feature to add. By the way, the verb conjugation feature is excellent. Your verb conjugator actually made up for the broken audio. Fix the audio ASAP!!!

Amazing and cheap for what you get,. This app is fantastic, it has verb conjugation and everything. AND YOU DON'T NEED WIFI! (that is, as long as you don't want the verbal examples). Definitly worth it for the amount you're paying.

Update. Can you do an update faster as possible because the larousse of my friend don't work and he need it for school Please

Problème de son pour la prononciation. J’aime bien cette application que je consulte pour les langues anglaise et espagnol cependant le son pour la prononciation des mots n’est plus accessible ????

Perfect dictionary for translation and regular work. This is a great all-around dictionary. It not only does a great job of E-F / F-E, but also helps with masculine / feminine, definitions through extensive use of word forms (i.e. putting the word into various expressions) and has full verb conjugation tables (there is a conjugate button on the verb pages). I also have the Larousse Illustré but rarely use it because this one does the trick. It even works great on the iPad 1 my kids use, albeit a bit slow compared to my Air.

Audio Problems. I like this app, but I keep getting audio streaming errors;so I cannot use the pronunciation function on my app--please fix.

Problem with pronunciation. Same issue here...for some reason it is not working. And support line doesn’t work either. Jan 2021.

Grandmother. No pronunciation! A huge disappointment, Larousse.

Buggy!. SLOW typing and slow to transfer to conjugation. Many word definitions come up blank!! Many words have no audio. Could be a good app if these poblems could be fixed

No conjugated forms in search base. Does not find congutated forms of verbs! My PC Larousse did, so I expected this one to also. Major omission, although arguably much more programming work. I will give up the $5 and spring for Inlingua.

Useful dictionary with room for improvements. Pros: I use this dictionary a lot. The definitions are good, the pronunciations handy. Cons: It does have problems streaming the audio at times. It would also be nice to see an update after 3 years since it's last update: IOS 10 even complains about the app being old and unoptimized! 🙁 I would also like to see better support for searching for idioms.

Better than some competitors but not good for advanced learners. This dictionary appears more complete than some others in its price class (e.g., Ultralingua) and having pronunciations is a plus, but the vocabulary coverage for advanced users is insufficient.

amateur. Well-designed, easy to use, many excellent features. Especially helpful are the conjugations given for the French verbs and several examples using the word that you have looked up so you can see its use in the context of a sentence. Switching from French to English and back again is very easy (and pretty nifty!). Worth the cost!

Wonderful. This app has everything I need!! And to think I was going to spend $20 on one... Dont do it!! Buy this one first!

Not so bon. Before I dug out my Oxford Hachette--how you say, big, give you hernia--book from my bookshelf (ancient concept) I attempted to use this app to translate a novel. Now it's been quite a while since my three years of high school French. and I needed more help than this little app could provide--idioms, etc. But what about the very simple "lequel"? Not there. Nor was "laquelle." So, monsieur, madame, this little app might be okay for translating a menu or asking for help in finding a bathroom. (Ou est le bain?) But for anything more difficile. Go to your bookshelf for M. Hachette. (Lift with your genoux.)

Audio causes app to quit. Help - I’m leaving for France soon!. I have used this app for about 6 months and love it. However, today, the app started having the problem that others have noted. When I try to play the audio, the app crashes. I need it fixed now!!!

Great dictionary but no audio. This is such a great app but I need the audio. Please fix, my ears are lonely for the sweet sounds of French coming out of my iPhone. If the audio worked this would be 5 stars, no question.

No setting to default the direction. DON'T THEY INTEND EVER TO FIX THIS? SO MADDENING! I feel I can write frankly about the deficiency of this app, since I know the developers never read user feedback. I would use this excellent dictionary to look up French words -- i. e. French to English. However, it always reverts to English-French, so I would have to switch it back every time -- if I used it. It should remain in the last-used mode, or provide a setting to allow defaulting to French-English or vice versa to suit the user. Until then I am using the Oxford French-English dictionary.

More French audible. Ditto what Allison Berry said about needing to hear the sample sentences in FR not English! Also, would be great to have audible FR reading of the conjugated verb forms. Otherwise love this app best of all my lang apps.

Extremely useful. Robust vocabulary, useful audio pronunciation, expansive definitions embracing idiomatic variations, all help to learn French.

Extremely useful. I love this dictionary! i have been using it in Paris while studying French. The history function helps me review difficult words on which I stumbled. Too bad the audio isn't working.

College professor. Love it and recommend it to all my French students. I wish the Spanish-English version were as good!

Crashing on iOS 9.0.1. Excellent app with lots of useful expressions, but it's crashing whenever I try to play the pronunciation of a word. Here's hoping for a speedy fix!

Needs retina support and speed update. The app needs retina display support. I was hoping for an update to fix this, bu t I've now been staring at the ugly pixelated graphics for months. Also, I want to have the pronunciations available even when I'm offline, no matter how much space it takes up on my iPhone.

Beware: currently no audio. I would have given this 5 stars but a few weeks ago I noticed the audio stopped functioning. I checked all the settings and made sure I was connected to internet, yet still no success. Without audio this app loses much of its value; this feature was the reason why I chose this app. Please prioritize fixing this issue.

Wonderful. Love it. Very thorough, gives examples of usage so you know exactly what the translation is. And a pleasant surprise was that there is a conjugator tool for the verbs! I don't need a second app for verb conjugations!

recently become nearly useless.. I have been using this app for well over a year. It worked very well. However as of now (September 29, 2014) it has become nearly worthless. After trying to get definitions for a couple of French words I didn't know, I decided to check whether it was working for very common words. I was unable to get definitions for such words as "ties" or "souvent". I was no more successful when putting trying to get definitions for "very" and "often."

Disconcerting dictionary. In many respects this is a good dictionary; the pronunciation feature works well, and the definitions, when they exist, are pretty good. Unfortunately, there are a large number of listed (and pronounced!) words with no definition at all. The editor must have prematurely abandoned his post. Also, there could be even more example sentences.

Pour les "basics". I downloaded this thinking it would suffice for interpreting some phrases in a French university program description. Within two minutes there were four words not in this edition, which were the only words I was having trouble conceptualizing. If you are above B1 it's not going to help with the more subtle language usage, at least in academic writing.

Audio is working - great app. I bought this app for the audio function and it is now working great.

Better after much needed upgrade but still huge room for improvement. Hopefully we won't need to wait another THREE YEARS for the next update. Even though the design is clunky and dated the retina resolution is much welcomed. Although it's not the most well executed app its content is gold and so it has occupied my home screen the last few years. Just please improve the interface!

Crashes in iOS 9.2 when attempt sound. I would give this app 4 stars except that recently it began crashing with the latest iOS update whenever you try playing the pronunciation (either way- in english or french). This happens across different iPhones and iPads tried. PLEASE FIX.

Very Good. Runs smooth. Pronunciations in native tongue is a +. I would suggest allowing users to add words app does not have. Because there was maybe just a couple I did not find. Otherwise, it's great. Thank you.

Great so far!. This dictionary is helpful in that all the words I look up are clearly defined, the audio button to hear their pronunciation actually does work and that is really helpful especially since I am still learning French :)

Great French Dictionary. Would be a 5, but last update was 3 years ago

Good with potentials to be better. I have used this app for three months now and have enjoyed it. Today, however, it has started crashing when I clicked on the speaker sign in both English and French modes. One improvement I would like to see is pronunciations for the conjugations. Given the difficulty of French pronunciation, that addition would be helpful for many users.

Font is too small. The font is excruciatingly small for my strained eyes. It also makes things harder on the touchscreen. On the iPad screen especially, it is hard to navigate using the fingers. Otherwise this is a good dict with a very reasonable price. Please enlarge the font size! One more thing - The audio signs are too intrusive.

French dictionary. It's not what I expected as the one I used at the web. It has lack of some features as compare to the online larousse dictionary such as recognizing the conjugated verbs and pronouncing the examples. I hope this would be fixed in future updates.

Better since last update. Great job, good update, but must be improved (move forward). Purchased before last update. Was at 3, now at 4 stars. Next update at 5?

Larousse French Dictionary. This app worked wonderfully for 4 days, then poof, nothing. For the a week now it asks me if I want to go the App Store as if I want to purchase it, though it shows that it's installed. I have reported a bug and etc several times. NOW FIX IT!!

Nice app, but audio problems. The app has great word context examples, but the audio buttons shut down the app. Do not purchase this app if you're expecting to use the audio.

My favorite French / English dictionary on iOS.. This is now my favorite French / English dictionary on iOS. This latest update really improves the app: * Audio for both English and French, including the example phrases. This is a big update and very helpful for learning. * Fixes the annoyance of slow rotation into landscape every time you start the app. It's instant now. * Looks very crisp on iPad Retina, looks fine on iPad 2. * Now fully supports iPhone 5.

Problem after update. Worked great for several years but after most recent update both iPhone and iPad have no audio and the app closes it self down. Help

Needs French audio on French words. This is a great app, only problem is when I look up a French word to see what it means and how it sounds the audio is read aloud in English. PLEASE ADD both French and English audio on the words so it can help us learn better. Thank you!

Great Dictionary but Bugs to be fixed. Best and most expansive/complete French/English in the App Store (replaces a five pound book) but interface still needs work, e.g., in the conjugation tables (fourth sample screen) the table does not scroll down, No matter how much finger swiping, it will not move so we have no idea what is hiding down there. Fix the bugs and it will be 5*

Very good--now Italian/English, svp. I bought the larger French-only version as well based on the quality of this adaptation. I will now wait for Larousse to bring out an Italian-English iPhone dictionary, and provide some much-needed competition in that market.

Love it. I just moved to Paris and this app has become indispensable. So much easier than thumbing through a dictionary and I love that you can tap any word in a definition and jump to that word. The grammar section is cool too. Def worth the Money

Amazing app. Very useful for those who want to study french. Sounds working normally with internet. I'm brazilian and I liked very much this app, the best I've ever seen. Thank you!!!!

Much Better After Update. It is so much more comfortable after the latest update but I would still like for the pronunciation to not need Internet connection... It would not be a bad thing to see more frequent updates including content updates...

Very high quality app. I'm delighted with my purchase, this is a high quality app, full of useful features, and worth every cent. I just regret all the time I wasted up until now with lesser-quality dictionaries...

Fix it Plz. Would've been a 5 star! Recently the audio is not working!!! There are plenty other dictionaries out there, the only reason I use this is bcuz of the audio!! Fix it plz.

Bright vs Dark “a”. Great definitions, etc… but unfortunately the French pronunciations don’t make a distinction between the bright [a] as in “patte” and the dark [ɑ] as in “pâte.” All are listed as bright.

GREAT APP!!!. After much waiting (too long, really) Larousse has finally fixed the bugs! Now, this is the BEST app out there. I have had this app for a year, from being a level A2 to now a C1, and I HIGHLY recommend it. The example sentences are MANY and almost always PINPOINT the word or translation I'm looking for. GET. THIS. APP. !!!

Audio triggers app crash. Pressed the audio icon to hear "malheur" pronounced. The app crashed repeatedly. Audio for expressions and idioms on the malheur reference page functioned normally. Reboot of iPad made no difference in preventing an app crash. Separate references to hear pronunciation for "mal," and "heur" also worked normally.

Great Reference and desperately needs an update. It hasn't been updated in years but as a reference it still works well. What hasn't worked for years now is audio. Please fix to help improve it as a learning tool with audio/pronunciations in English and French.

Can be better.. Did you guys notice that there's a new version of ios and new graphic guidelines?? Have the developers forgotten about this app?? It need new graphics and other things be addressed which I won't mention because it has been mentioned before. The app works and it helps me almost every day, but please, fix this small things. Please update the app.

Sound Problems. I've used this app on my computer, my phone and most recently my iPAD. On the iPAD when hitting the speaker icon to hear pronunciation, the app shuts down. Perhaps a bug that needs to be fixed. I consider it a 5 but it loses a star pending resolution.

Terrific. I was hesitant to purchase this app after reading the reviews but decided to give it a chance. So far it's great. The audio works fine -- maybe it requires an Internet connection. And contrary to some reviewer remarks, it translates English-French and vice versa. Verb conjugations are available. So far a beautiful app!
