Worst customer service, glitchy app. Go with PayPal instead. They may have a higher processing fee, but it’s worth it over Square’s nightmare of an experience. I wanted to use this for selling at a craft fair but could not get the card reader to accept card payments in the app (kept getting a glitch where a window would pop up asking me to order more hardware even though I had the hardware already). I emailed square, Facebook messaged them, and tried calling them. I also tried posting in the community message system but there was a glitch there too that didn’t allow you to ask questions. Go to their Wikipedia page, you’ll see that their phone system is fully automated (no live help). When dealing with people’s money, you should not make customer service so stressful and impossible to access. I can’t believe this company is so successful with how awful my experience was with them. If you don’t believe me, get your free card reader with square and PayPal and see which is easier to set up. No reason to only try Square and wait forever for it to fail. Update: their response to me on this public review is a lie. I did try contacting them. Eventually I got a generic response that my account was blocked by them. That’s it, no ability to contest it.

Deactivated. I am a young adult with kids. Bought a coffee concessions stand. I’ve been so excited to start a career for myself and my family. As most know starting out a business is a huge financial burden. My account was flagged and I’m confused why. I just will be selling coffee. I haven’t even sold anything at all though because we don't open until June 1st. I can’t even get ahold of a real person to try and get this fixed. Its been days and I got nothing. I had transferred $500 into the account of my own money to have my coffee roaster use that account when we buy our first batch. Now I can’t get that money back and I need it to purchase my goods. This is very frustrating. Im hoping they can get this fixed soon enough because we have a business to open and I already spent a large amount of our funds on the square equipment. I had so many people recommending square. If this isn’t fixed in a timely matter or at all I will 100% be recommending businesses not to use square. This can be a huge customer base considering most our business will be done at vender markets. Edit: I have talked with your social media account and go zero feedback. All I asked was what I could do to solve the problem. The only answer I got was “this decision is final!” I assure you I have done nothing wrong to provoke this issue. I will happily take my business to clover and recommend them to anyone and everyone! You guys are the only fraud there is.

Square will hold your customers funds hostage. I have had the absolute worst experience with square. I started using them for estimates and invoicing for my roofing company. Every single payment I have received has been held for several days. The last payment I received was for over $7k. They sent me an email saying they think it was a fraudulent charge and that I need to refund my customer to avoid a dispute. Needing to pay my guys and get those funds secured I refunded the customer so I could just go pick up a check. Square then tells me they are now placing a 2-7 day hold on the funds. Day 7 arrives and no funds have been refunded. I call customer support at they’re difficult to find 1800 number and eventually speak with a guy named “Tri”. I explained what’s going on and how this is all affecting my business and employees and he was as rude and disrespectful as could be. He tells me they now have 14 days to refund. I ask for a supervisor and he tells me there isn’t one then proceeds to hang up the phone on me saying my call wasn’t productive…. Do not trust square with your business funds they will only hinder you and leave you with no means of getting issues corrected

Fix it. So I read some reviews and looks like other people are having similar issues. I’ve used square before and I liked it so I started using square for a small side business with my Etsy so I could do in person orders and transactions. The first time I went to identify myself and my bank information I double checked it all and it told me I wasn’t able to be identified. I emailed them and didn’t hear anything back. I looked online and they gave me a bot/automated responses to talk to and then when I got a real person they copied and pasted exactly what I had already read online and told them I couldn’t do. And after an hour of waiting on slow responses they finally told me “Your last application to accept cards was not approved, square offers a limited number of application attempts this decisions is final. I know this is disappointing I wish there was something I could do.” I asked them since they didn’t have the ability could they connect me with someone who does and I never got a response. I applied 1 time, I put everything in correctly, and I asked them why it wasn’t approved and pretty much told me “I don’t know I can’t do anything.” I use square at another job and I love it, was super easy to set up and use and sign in on, but I can’t make my own account?

My Money On Hold For 90 Days For No Reason !. I got everything all set up no problem, took my first payment than after that I couldn't transfer my money. I received a notification saying that I had more setup that needed to be done so I went through the 11 step set up questions/ info that they asked for shortly after that I received an email said that my setup was submitted successfully and it would take 2 days to review. 4 hours later (on a Sunday) I received an email saying that my account was deactivated with no explanation why, so I called them the next day to try to figure out why and all they could tell me is they couldn't support my business. I did some research to see if anyone else had this issue and apparently it fairly common. So I called again the next day to try to get it figured out and get my money that they are holding and got the run around I ended up talking with someone in account services and she couldn't tell my why it was deactivated, they only thing she would say is I could refund the payment and ask for a check from the customer or cash. I would recommend that NOBODY use square due to this customer service or lack of service now I have to wait 90 days to get paid when I was depending on this money to continue doing my business. Please Don’t use unless you don’t mind Waiting 3 months 👎

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. My account was deactivated for something that I was wrongfully accused of doing. Someone filled a dispute saying they didn’t authorize the $200 transaction (2 months after the transaction) square TOOK $200 from my bank account and closed my account (that was only my second dispute in 2 years with them and the first dispute was settled in my favor). Here we are almost 4 months later after I started using another site for my business, and finally I get an email that says “the $200 dispute was decided in your favor” I thought... well finally. Makes sense because the idiot that did the dispute lives across country but claimed they never even made the payment (like how the heck could I make a payment on behalf of you when the invoice was sent to your email) but anyway they decided in my favor... YAY I GET MY $200 back! NOPE... WRONG... SORRY NOT TODAY... square then tells me I have to wait another minimum of 90- maximum of 180 days for the money to go back in my account!!! IM SOOO P*SSED OFF!!!! So there is literally $200 sitting in a square account no longer active and I just have to wait another 100+ days! Not happening. I contacted BBB and will be posting on every social media out there. They have the WORST customer service ever. If you even get the LEAST bit aggravated on a call with them, they just hang up.. DO NOT, I REPEAT DOOOOOONOOOOOOTTTT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE

Small Business. At first I loved square my first transaction was great. Then the second. Then I decided hey I wanna do an instant transfer which almost all businesses and payment places allow. EXCEPT SQUARE!! If you don’t get 50-70 transactions you only have 1-2 business day transfers which takes forever sometimes even longer than that. You guys should really think about lowering that because not everybody is going to make that that quick. And I’m stuck using them cause the website I use is connected to them. It’s so frustrating like I’m a small business, just starting out I’m not making 50-70 transactions anytime soon. DO THEY LET YOU KNOW ANYWHERE?? Nope i had to contact support just to find out... no warnings nothing. Not even on they help page. So now I have to wait even though I NEED those funds. And I cant do anything about it. That’s horrible... atleast lower it to 10 transactions. 50-70 is insanely high for someone just starting out... we need those funds to help with our business and pay for shipping... hence why the customer pays for shipping. But if I cant access the funds for shipping how the heck am I suppose to pay for it. Make my customer wait 3 days for y’all to send me MY money. Ridiculous ... as soon as I do make enough Im switching to someone else for sure.

iOS 12.4.8 for iPad Air 1 not recognized by square stand. My business restarted a couple days ago, and all of sudden my iPad Air 1 (original version) is not recognized by square stand. It was working perfectly before covid-19. I replaced a brand new stand and is still not working. So it must be the iPad Air 1, I think, then I wipe my iPad Air to its factory settings and it’s not working either. Now I think it’s the IOS version that messed up the charging port functionality. Currently the most updated iOS for iPad Air 1 is version 12.4.8 and it’s not able to upgrade to any iOS 13 and up version. And I borrowed and tested An iPad 5th generation with iOS 13, the square stand can work without any problems. Also I tried another iPad Air 1with most updated iOS and its not recognized by square stand. Is there any technical representative can help to solve this issue? Thanks in advance.

I love it!. I have a small concession business and I was so surprised how many people come to sporting events without any cash in their pockets. I eventually got an iPhone and decided that I would try Square so that I could process credit cards. I am so blown away at how fast and easy it is to be able to take credit cards from my customers when they want to buy food from me. I think it also adds to my sales because some people would ordinarily not spend as much if they had to spend cash. One of the best things about it is it's affordability -no monthly fees and a very reasonable transaction charge. Set up was easy, the transactions run smoothly, and the day after my sales, I get an email telling me the amount of money that's been deposited into my account. What I DO want and am upset that square can’t deliver: the company name should be present on every printed generic report. I have 4 companies that I print daily sales reports for, and unless I write down the location, I’ll go nuts trying to figure it out later.

Beware Holds for 90 days. I got Square to be able to take credit cards where my Etsy shop couldn’t help me in making sales. I had a sale over $1,000 and they held my money (I was told for a period no less than 90 days) and they closed my account for no reason. I had submitted all the information about my sale and they said they could not support my store even though I had never had a problem before. I tried to contact costumer service to talk to someone to just get answers and the customer service is nonexistent. I called the number and was pretty much told to go f myself the lack of care they put into their customer service. Not even an explanation. I do these things all the time with Etsy, what was the problem doing it when Etsy is integrated with square? Not only did this screw up my sale, but now they have made my bank account negative by withdrawing money they have no right to take from me. They cancelled my account and the customer wanted their money back and I couldn’t even issue a refund so the customer did a chargeback with their bank. That’s not my fault at all but I’m being punished by square for bad company practices. I do not recommend square to anyone, especially if they are going to eventually have sales more than $1,000.

Horrible Customer Service. I love love love the square app it’s easy to create invoices. The customers can see all the charges and details and pay easily as well. However, their computer system has locked my account twice now to check information for fraud. This would be a good feature except both times they have locked it on a weekend day and they won’t even discuss it with you until Mon-Fri and then you gotta wait another 48hrs for them to review the details. I travel for work transporting across the whole US. All of my customer payments are in my square account that’s how I fund my gas to drive to the next customer and eat etc. they locked my account and stranded me over 1,000 miles from home with another persons pet that I was transporting for 4 days. For 4 days I was stuck in a travel stop parking lot eating chips and listening to a Whitney pet because they were miserable and ready to get home. The customer luckily was understanding but that could have gotten me a horrible review cost me my reputation and or my business all together. After the first time I figured it wouldn’t happen again because I started making better invoices with extra customer information and guess what it’s Saturday I’m stuck in Ohio because I can’t get gas to make it down to Texas to get my next pick up…I message support and they won’t help tell me I gotta wait till Monday!!! Uh are you freaking serious….

Read the reviews!!!!!!. I have had square for two years for my business. They are constantly changing their service and it gets messed up every time. Their instant deposit is a joke. For an extra 1% you can have instant deposit but what they don’t tell you is that you have to have at least a $1 in the account to have this happen then they say you will get the money deposited 2 working days later. Well that screwed my pay to my suppliers and employees. Thanks square for being greedy and a crap company! If you read the reviews, this company will only give you a link to talk to a human and/or have your issue resolved if you make a bad review. They have no customer service unless you complain. That is just bad business practices! This company just tries to hold your money as long as they can until you make a public complaint. Good thing they can’t pay to have bad complaints erased! It keeps the public informed! I’m sure now there will be a response after this review but that is just too little to late and you never see a change in a review afterwards. That should tell you something right there!

Could be good could be bad. I used this service and app for a personal account service. To get paid for side jobs in a way I thought was more of a convenience to my customers being able to pay with a card over cash New day and age right? I would eat the processing fee’s to make a happy customer. until my account was frozen and put under review after receiving a couple hundred dollar payment. If your using this for personal use not business make sure you mark it as “miscellaneous goods” not “miscellaneous services” or anything else because even though you set it up as an individual, personal, non business account if you get “suspended” and “under review” it says 1-2 business days it took me more like 10 to finally even get to talk to someone who told me what I should do besides send me and email or a link in our chat to fill out a form that doesn’t even work correctly i.e. uploading documents. Very aggravating and frustrating that’s for sure. Because you don’t want to take anymore payments that way Incase they close your account you don’t have to go explain to your customer why they need to pay again and provide a refund and refund receipt(that’s the easiest part, especially if they have an email address) the whole “under review”/“suspension” can be drug out by square as long as they want. Why was their no problem for the first few months? Very frustrating!

I love Square Point Of Sale!. We are artists and have been doing art shows for over 40 years. We have used several different companies to process credit cards over the years and all of them have been complicated and expensive with a lot of paperwork and monthly fees until we discovered Square! It’s so easy with no monthly fees and you can do it anywhere! We recently opened a brick and mortar gallery in Inverness, Florida and bought their Point Of Sale system with iPad. I can keep track of inventory and sales and print reports. They allowed us to buy the register system with monthly payments and set up was super easy! I am about to add employees to it because they keep track of all that too! It also automatically adds sales tax if you want. Emails have always been a problem for us...keeping track and sending them. With Square, they keep track of customers and I can send out a campaign in a few minutes with their templates! I can see at a glance which emails worked and who responded. I can work with the 80/20 rule and concentrate on the 20% of customers that are repeat buyers and buy 80% of my products. We love it!

Handy system. Mostly a very consistent service. Lately the app has malfunction several times, causing us to miss out on some very high dollar sales. Another sticking point for me is, The fact that you have to turn your microphone on in order to use their system , which seems a little weird. Perhaps invasion of privacy? Never was explained to me fully why your microphone (A listening device) needs to be involved in a sales transaction. …? The answer I was given three or four times was the same, “because your headphone jack needs to communicate with the credit card reader”. I’ll say it one more time, I do NOT have a headphone jack on my Square stand or on my iPad! Get it through your heads. That’s a lame excuse and not a reason. But overall, over the last 10 years This credit card processing app has been great. Convenient and handy with lower rates than our bank.

Worse payment app DONT GET IT. I applied for the square app and they said successful didn’t ask for any other verification but when a client sent two payments they would not let me transfer it to my account but they did charge the client..... they wanted all kinds of verification before I could deposit it into my account and when I went through with the process there system wasn’t saving my information.... so I tried to refun the client and before I clicked refund it said it would be refunded in one business day..... it’s been three business days and the client did not receive their money so I called square and now they are saying 7/14 business days.... not only that but they took out money from my bank account which was the first payment the client made but they never let the money go into my account.... THEY TOOK MONEY OUT OF MY ACCOUNT REAL FAST BUT WILL NOT REFUND THE CLIENT REAL FAST AND THE MONEY THEY TOOK OUT OF MY ACCOUNT NEVER WENT INTO MY ACCOUNT BECAUSE THEY WANTED MORE VERIFICATION BUT THERE SYSTEM WOULD NOT SAVE THE INFORMATION DO NOT USE THIS APP.... GET PAYPAL THEY WORK MICH FASTER PAYMENTS GO THROUGH INSTANT AND SO DOES REFUNDS AND THEY DONT WAIT FOR YOIU TO RECEIVE A PAYMENT AND THEN HOLD IT AND TAKE MONEY OUT OF YOUR ACCOUNT PAYPAL IS MUCH BETTER.... SQUARE AMD CASH APP IS HORRIBLE THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND THIER CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE!!!!! Don’t get it !

Worse Company I’ve Ever Came Across. At first, I was really starting to get excited about working with different companies to create a seamless process for both me and my customers. The ability to have multiple payment options and payment resources was awesome. However, since I’ve signed up I’ve been running into nothing but issues with Square. I have literally done nothing wrong at all! I have an official registered business with a business tax ID. I created an invoice for a service I provided to my guest and square is holding my funds after I’ve given literally everything they’ve asked me for. Without any explanation they’re holding my funds, suspended my account then deactivated after I’ve done everything they asked me to do. I’ve emailed numerous of times with no response and I called and the rep literally stated he doesn’t know why they deactivated my account what kind of professional business are you running Square? I trusted you guys with no only my personal and business information but as a platform to collect my funds for me and this is how you treat your customers? This is unheard of! Someone should be able to explain what’s going on and steps on how to resolve the problem if something else is required of me. Having your rep tell me idk and not receiving email responses back is not going to work!

An excellent app and service. To begin, we have been using Square for almost 4 years. Over that time we have integrated square more and more into our business. We are happy to report that this has been a great decision. The app is always being updated and keeps getting the features that we ask for. All you have to do is email or call and tell their customer service department what features you really want to see in the future. Then sure enough in a month or two the very thing you asked for is added in or has some beginning resemblance of what you had asked for. Do not be deterred by the negative reviews. Most of them are people who have decided that the review section for the app is the best wY to ask a question to the support staff. Or they may be engaged in some kind of shady business that is prohibited by square. On a different note their fees are strait forward and are completely out in the open compared to other merchant service companies. Overall I have been satisfied with the product and the support staff that make it keep working. Thanks square for making a POS that is easy and powerful. Cheers.

Where is my money???. Square deactivated and reviewed my accountant multiple times without telling me and moved large amounts of money without notifying me and withheld money. I have to wait 90 days to get money that was supposed to be in my account over a month ago. I don’t know why square is clamping down so hard on small businesses but they’re really hurting a lot of small businesses and bringing them to their knees. They’re overly harsh when looking over a business and even though I provided all the information I could and I have a legitimate business with legitimate places they can find it they still banned my account and my money is still missing. My money was even missing before they had banned my account and they never told me where my money was or where it was going to go or when my account was under review and they reviewed it multiple times multiple days in a row .and I don’t recommend this for anyone with a small business. They have higher fee rates than other payment methods and they withhold your money for a lot longer. I don’t recommend this. The customer service is also not great they have a long wait time and they don’t really do anything to help you. Please don’t get square it’s not worth it.

Getting greedy. We use the square once or twice a year for our small non-profit. Funds used to transfer as soon as we reconnected to the internet, but now they have tacked on a fee for that. They are now charging 1.6% for immediate transfer. To save that fee we have to wait 1-2 business days for the transfer. Our sale happened on Saturday of a 3 day weekend, so now I keep having to sign on to the iPad we used (owned by one of the members). I have looked everywhere and can’t find anything that says “transfer pending” or “transfer complete.” I also don’t know if those who requested receipts got them or not. I am much less impressed than I was when I used this 4 months prior. Update: received a “response” to my review that simply cut and pasted the transfer policy, which was identical to what I paraphrased above and did not at all address my actual question/concern about receipts and notification about the status of transfers. So, basically like every other tech company - only interested in answering the questions they want to answer and not big on customer service.

App Update Causing Issues, Features Still Lacking. Newest update has some nice features, but it is causing some issues. The first issue I’m coming across is that I am unable to add inventory to a new item I created. Keeps giving me an error and says to check my network connection, however, I am connected to our network so this should not be an issue. Item exists on our iPad (where I created it), but does not show up on our Square register, nor does it show up online. I also see that I no longer have the option to create a separate checkout link on an item. Please work through and address bugs / issues. In addition, one thing we would love to see is to be able to set a pricing structure on a single item. For example, if a customer purchases/orders Qty 1 of an item, they receive it at “X” price, but if they purchase Qty 12 or more, they get a price break and receive the item at “Y” price. Giving this review 2 stars due to bugs that need to be fixed, and due to features recently implemented that should have been implemented long ago. Also due to features that are not yet implemented that should be. This app is good overall, but lacking in features that allow for versatility in order to improve efficiency for businesses.

Absolutely the worst for small business. Would you like your money at the end of the day? Maybe week? Well don’t expect that from this company. My first 4 days they help for review numerous deposits said they were flagged because they weren’t the normal payment I usually receive. I had only received 4 payments at that point! What are you comparing them to I asked they said the payments I received. So out of 4, 3 held and I still hadn’t received any money after 4 days so I decided to refund money to clients and guess what the clients haven’t received money in 8 days still days pending on my account to which the company square claim it doesn’t . I wish I could put screen shots on here!!!! Please please if you are a company depending on receiving your money in a timely no stress fashion this is in no way going to help you. You will be like me out 1000+ dollars and being told just wait…. Be careful that’s all I can say. Square I promise I will continue to warn people of your horrible customer service and the fact that you hold peoples money for whatever reason and cause much harm to small business

Signing Up, Easy as 1,2,3. I started with another popular company, their requirement were three proofs of Identification which took two days for verification, once approved, took 3 days for payout. I tested the link to customer for payment, it showed the customer my full name and bank account number 🤯🤯🤯. I had to request access to their virtual terminal which I was denied because I did not have enough sales, I was told I could request it at a later date after I have more activity on the account. This was tooo much, I needed access NOW. So I did more research and found Clover and SquareUp, Clovers upfront fees were not in my budget so I tried SquareUp, oh my goodness, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY what a BLESSING. I completed the signup, I was verified in minutes the virtual terminal is standard along with many other features. The main feature is I can use my iPhone for payment. Talk about a BLESSING!!! I am Tickled PINK with JOY!! Thank you SquareUp Thank you!!! Oh, almost forgot, I did a test purchase/payment of $1.00, the payout was the next day, I don’t really need to use the instant pay but if I need to it’s available!!!!!!

Non-Existent Customer Service. Recently signed up for Square and even ordered a Square card, only for my card to be suddenly removed and my account in a state of limbo due to a deactivation that I’ve received no notice for. When attempting to contact Square through multiple outlets such as phone/email (messaging was unavailable for my account), there was literally no way I could get in touch with a live agent regarding this issue. Everything is automated and you get no reply via email. Completely garbage service that I put in money for, and now I have no way of retrieving my funds from my account. Do not use until they actually put in a customer service team because clearly there isn’t one. This isn’t just a disgruntled user—I’ve again tried every method to get a response and in spite of this I have not received any communication whatsoever. - Edit: Recently received email communication from them after several weeks, and their customer service was great. Reverting to 4 stars because they seem to have redressed this issue.

I started using this app for side jobs and charging customers is easy and simple it the best and it’s fast but when it comes to getting your money that’s a different story coz they make it so hard and right away they deactivate your account just because they think that your transactions are high risk ok let say that the case then when that happens they put a 90 days HOLD ON YOUR MONEY and when it’s time to pay they don’t pay it and they don’t even reply to your emails not on Facebook or instagram or nothing soon as you email them they say how can we help and ask to provide your account info after that they don’t reply it’s been over 6 months that it’s says my balance is being transferred and nothing everything is wrong about this company and I’m going to sue you guys if I don’t get my money that you guys said you were going to transfer 6 months ago..I’ve been so patient with you guys but enough is enough you got one day to fix this or don’t even try after coz I’ll see you guys in court

Fine... until something goes wrong. Then you’re on your own. It’s actually impossible to get support fixing an issue at this time. There is no number or email address, or contact information of any kind available. You are asked to look through the FAQs and support threads. If what you need is not there, you “contact support,” which takes you through a process to “open a case,” after which someone will email you. The first page of this process, which asks for your location, has been broken for several weeks. There is no option on the screen for answering the question, so you’re unable to move on. I’ve been receiving an error message at login ever since I switched phones, so I am unable to get into the app at all. Meanwhile apologizing to all my clients for not being able to take cards currently. So I search through my old email records to find when I had successfully talked to Support once before, and send a message to that address explaining my situation, giving all the required details, asking for help. Their response is “you’ll have to open a new case.” Okay. I reply that the Paige for opening a case is broken. Over a week later, no reply. I can’t even believe how ridiculous this is.

Just another greedy company. I’ve used square for a little over 2 years and have loved it! I told everyone about it, suggested it to everyone I knew opening small businesses. It really seemed like a “for the small guys” sort of company. That is until I got my husband to sign up and they claimed they randomly selected him for a review and held his money for his first job. The chat support was rude about it but he figured he’d wait it out. That was until the next day he got a “we need more information from you” notification claiming they needed a bunch of information, some of which didn’t even apply to his business. He called support who was extremely rude and disrespectful, raised their voice at him, talked over him and hung up on him. I was sitting next to my husband the entire time and he didn’t raise his voice or get rude with them once. So why was customer support so disrespectful? Now I’ve decided to shut my account down and he his but neither of us are able to 🤦🏻‍♀️ Edited to respond: My husband and I have both spoken to multiple customer service reps all equally as frustrating, but we both managed to deactivate our accounts. Complaints were addressed and we were told they’d be submitted but we’ve already moved on to a competitor who was more than happy to have us and mentioned they see a lot of your unhappy customers

Devastating. This company’s services will never get a penny from me ever again! When a company or individual takes a payment from someone else square gets their cut (cost of doing business). But when that clients customer wants to screw you over square not only makes YOU pay that fee back, that burden relies on you to provide proof that the transaction was in fact legit, you are guilty until proven innocent. EVEN IF THEY HAVE A SIGNATURE FROM THAT PERSON IT WILL NOT PROTECT YOU AND THEY WILL NOT FIGHT FOR YOU. The dispute platform does not let you upload photos or pictures like they ask you to and if you don’t get it done within the few days they ask you to YOU ARE SCREWED. And to top it off square makes YOU pay their fee back as well so not only does the original client screw over the company but square keeps their fee and makes you pay it back as well. No wonder they don’t care to put any effort into fighting your case, they get paid either way! DO NO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! If you do anyway you’ve been warned. I’m sure there will be more effort put into this negative review then there was trying to fight for money that I worked my tail off for and was taken advantage of by my client.

I feel very disappointed!!!. I have used square for more than 10 years and we had a very good relationship, until I opened my second business, which I sold in three 3 months after opening. for this reason I closed the account, and I don’t have access to see anything in this account. But one of my clients had paid Hair Extensions service for his wife and 2 months later they separated !!!! and he decided to make a claim for the things that his old wife had done (2 months later)!!!! and square related my other account (my first business) and decided to give the benefit to the client and I remove the privileges of capital advances without considering that I am a client for more than 10 years with out giving me the opportunity to investigate deeply, I consider it unfair because I lost my money, my time and the opportunity to clean My reputation, I feel very disappointed.

Square Does not give back your money. We have dealt with Square now for about 5 years have had multiple good reviews but square decided to shut our account down and hold our $2000 of our money captive for somebody hacking our account and getting a card that we never knew nothing about we have never done or asked for they held money for 90 days very hard to communicate with anybody never calls back or emails they can’t remember that you called and spoke to another representative they tell you that you’ll get your money back in just two days and it goes on for 90 days right hand does not know what the left hand is doing at square too many people working from home. I will never recommend Square to anybody they do not care about their customers all they can do have you talk to people that speak foreign language that you cannot understand and we deal with all kinds of nationalities in our business again I will never use Square nor recommend them to anybody you’re much better off finding a company that processes your payments that will not hold your money and not give it back to you there are several companies out there that do what they do. Invoice balance issues. I use square a lot and it’s great, but hopefully this message will reach the developers. I’m having an issue. When I send an invoice the customer is only able to pay the deposit amount and nothing more. I believe the customer should be able to pay whatever amount they choose as long as it exceeds the deposit amount, or fully pay the invoice in one transaction if they choose to. Furthermore if I make a change or additional line item after the deposit has been paid, the customer can only pay the new deposit and not just the full balance, causing them to have to make two separate transactions in order to complete the full payment. This has caused major confusion to my customers, and it’s becoming easier for me to just send two separate invoices for deposit/balance payments. Very frustrating and not intuitive to my customers.

BE AWARE!!!. I decided to try to use this company for my well established business. My daughter use to use it for her small business. She didn’t have any money in her bank account yet, it was a new business. I have my business for over 25 years, never had have any problems with any merchants I use. I signed up for square, and they told me I need submit some documentation and they get back to me in two days. At the same time they were very happy to let through two of my transactions (about $1000). After two days I received the email, that they deactivated my account, not able to support my business and they will hold my money for 3 (THREE) month, without further explanation. When I tried to call them (which wasn’t easy, they do everything that you are not able to talk to live person), THREE!!!! Representatives told me that “unfortunately they can’t provide me any information” and when I asked to talk to supervisor, they hang up on me. What rights this company has to let the transactions through before approving me and then holding my money for three months?????? Maybe attorney general office will help me to get an answer to this question.

Square App. I own a business and using the standard processing systems through the bank can be a headache at times especially when the signal is busy the reader won’t work and therefore I lose business. Having the square system as a back up has been a miracle for my business! Not only does it process it in 2 seconds, it gives me so much data on spending and monthly reports to what’s trending in my store. I’m slowly but surely transitioning over to the square system full time, for those who have been thinking about using it, ITS WORTH IT I PROMISE YOU! The fees are much cheaper and it’s a headache free system, very user friendly and just an all around great system. Thank you to Square for being their for me when I had nothing else to work with, now I don’t lose customers and since I get trending reports, I actually gain more business because it tells me what they like the most. You guys are AMAZING!!

They Allowed Fraudulent Customer To Take Me Merchandise & Money. Watch out for certain transactions someone in Africa bought my merchandise even signed for the delivery filed a claim with their bank and square gave this person and refund even after I provided all proof that they authorized the order even signed for the package. They claimed there was nothing they could do because the frauders bank sided with them despite the countless documents of proof I had. Once square takes money out your account u cannot even dispute it with your bank because of a contact they have where they have the right to take any amount of money out of your account fraud or not proof or not. I find it disgusting that they allow any fraudulent person to order your products file a claim then not only get your products but also make u repay them so u basically loose out twice and square won’t help u at all their only answer was seek legal help??? How do u take a person in a completely different country to court?? These things need to changed immediately people shouldn’t be able to scam u out of money and merchandise and u have proof and square sits back and does nothing❗️

Withholding my money for 90 days without explanation. I know many people that use square and like it my experience wasn’t so good I got everything all set up no problem, took my first payment than after that I couldn’t transfer my money. I received a notification saying that I had more setup that needed to be done so I went through the 11 step set up questions/ info that they asked for shortly after that I received an email said that my setup was submitted successfully and it would take 2 days to review. 4 hours later (on a Sunday) I received an email saying that my account was deactivated with no explanation why, so I called them the next day to try to figure out why and all they could tell me is they couldn’t support my business. I did some research to see if anyone else had this issue and apparently it fairly common. So I called again the next day to try to get it figured out and get my money that they are holding and got the run around I ended up talking with someone in account services and she couldn’t tell my why it was deactivated, they only thing she would say is I could refund the payment and ask for a check from the customer (who requested payment by credit card) she repeated herself 4 times and than hung up the phone on me while I was asking her a question. I would recommend that NOBODY use square due to this customer service or lack of service now I have to wait 90 days to get paid when I was depending on this money to continue doing business

Quick and Easy but.... This app is great for transactions and selecting your products, but it lacks a few things. 1. The customer list is not available if you are not connected to the internet. You can still take payments but it records them as payment by “Square Customer” and does not attach their payment to the customer information. This is a problem when you import your transactions into another program like quickbooks. 2. When you download transactions to quickbooks the product information does not come through, only the category information. 3. It does not automatically reconnect to my iPhone personal hotspot when I use that as my internet connection. I have to go into settings and turn off WiFi and turn it back on several times. If they would just put the customer list on the device like they do the product list, it would be much better. Seems like a simple fix but for whatever reason they have not done it even though suggested many months ago. 4. There are also no normal transaction numbers. Instead of a regular number for each transaction it gives a long string is letters and numbers mixed with capital and lower case letters. A normal consecutive numbering system would be much nicer for accounting and for the customer.

Took my money!. I’ve been using Square for seven years, never had a problem with anything. I had a fraudulent charge attempted on my card after putting seven dollars worth of gas in my motorcycle, A scammer tried to draw 300 and square stopped it. I actually talked to a human, and they said they’d send me another card. The representative said they were putting a block on my account so I couldn’t lose any money, but that means you can’t contact the company either, if they block you on your card, that blocks you from corresponding with them as well. They wound up sending me three new cards and a new card to the criminal who tried to steal my money. Now, they have $500 of my money they’re holding and will not let me transfer it to my bank, nor will they let me use Apple Pay or speak with anyone. Worst customer service anywhere! Going on two weeks now and I need my money, $500 is a lot of money for a small business, do not get square for payments! Go anywhere but don’t go here, they will leave you stranded like they have me. Update; tried to use Apple Pay today thinking I could get some of my money, declined my $35 purchase and two minutes later there was a $100 fraudulent purchase attempted. I have no idea what’s going on with this company, but it’s definitely not reputable.

If I Was Able To Give Zero Stars..... I would. I personally feel like square is a scam. I was told my bank account verification would take up to 4 days to be verified. I’m On the 6th day now and I still have no access to my hundreds that my customers has paid me. And the only thing they keep telling me is another 24 hours. On top of the approval for the verification after its approved I have to wait another two days for the funds to transfer into my account. So many companies that operate today are on a instant transfer/deposit basis with a small fee. I’m absolutely fine with that but when you charge me 15% plus an additional fee when customers pay with their cards and can’t instantly or even within at least 24/48 have my cash deposited into my account that makes me worry a bit. This has completely slowed down my business and I’m in the beginning phases of launching. And to have already let my customers down because of the lack on squares behalf makes me so frustrated. I only wanted to use the services for the invoicing part allowing my customers to pay through the link that I was able to send out to customers. That part is so convenient and I loved it but how they handle your cash AFTER it’s received in. Scares me and I don’t do scammers. There’s too many hackers and scams happening today and to have someone hold YOUR funds captive with no explanation is bizarre. Square I’m giving you zero stars ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ Would not recommend

My little business. Granted I just started my own little business...but square allows me to be super mobile. I can go anywhere at any time and take payments! I get my money right away and I haven’t had any issues whatsoever. They included my own card reader for free, it arrived quickly and my customers just swipe and go! I love, love, love the ability to do this! I am horrible at maths and this includes all my sales tax, discounts, gift cards for my customers instantly..it allows me to be free of being stuck in one place. For anyone running a business that needs you to go to them I highly recommend Square Point of Sale! You can’t go wrong..and I’m grateful that they don’t charge a ton of money to do it. In my little business every cent counts and other services charge way more for smaller amounts charged. With Square I always know how much it’s going to be..no hidden fees or charges. Thank you Square! You’re an amazing tool for us that are just learning to be on our own and rockin it like a boss! Which I am, my own! I couldn’t do it without you.

Square doesn’t support contractors. I had my account suspended in the middle of the night. I was frantic as a small business owner with contract workers who expected there earned pay the next day. After I spend an hour and a half gathering and sending in the documents requested 2 mins later my account is deactivated, and when I try to reach support no one available, no live chat, no response from emails, no call center after hours. Yet they can review all my bank records and legal documents in 2 minutes but can’t answer a phone. They are incredibly expensive and had no problem taking my fees. Yet they can’t take the time to review my invoices, bank statements and home depot receipts that in fact show I’m a contractor/painter. So I have to contact the property management groups I work for and cancel all my invoices, refund payments and apologize because I was stupid enough to use this app. Please don’t make my mistake, this has caused considerable damage to my business and reputation. If you’re a small business these people are not to be trusted, they can and will cripple your business. DO NOT USE THIS APP!!!!!!

Deactivated. I’m a wedding photographer and I usually do all my payments through Venmo, PayPal, Google pay, or Apple Pay for the past 2 years. But 2 weeks ago I got to different clients that wanted to pay with their cards so I decided to make a square account and have them pay through that! It was super easy to set up and with in minutes I was able to have the customers pay through the square app via link I sent them! They both paid me and the total ended up being 1350 and I tried transferring it out after a few days but they deactivated my account and put a hold on my money for 90 days!!!!!!! I tried giving them all the information they needed to verify I am a real photographer but instead of trying to figure things out with me and see what’s going on they just send an email so your account is deactivated and this final and toWait 90 days for your money or refund it back it to the people you charged. This company is frustrating, you say you are great for small business but when I try using it for my small business you decide super quick that it’s “fraudulent” because I got paid by my clients???? I highly suggest using Venmo, Google pay, etc.. over this trash company.

“Ghost “Payments. I have a customer that pay with debit card I got the payment the app was giving me a confirmation of the customer payment….. 2weeks later customer come back to pay “again” because he noticed that the payment was not reflected in his bank account. I check in my system and there was no payment found for this customer. Even in my bank account it doesn’t appear. I never NEVER check to confirm that all the payments are really in my bank. I been using square for 7 years and I don’t know that this can happen. Also I made invoices from month before the appointment (I got deposits) for the customers and at the time that customer come to pay I don’t see the invoice payment reflected in the transactions area. Also this can be inconvenient if I want to track ALL the payments received in the day. (Even the invoice is made it a month before, customer come at the appointment, and pay today the payment is not reflected in my payments received today). Please be careful with this app and track writing all the transactions. Customer service they don’t have idea in how to help me with this problems. I’m using the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Just for reference.

STOP. Stop using square immediately! They have changed their terms, and now a small business like mines is brought to its knees, because they flagged me as potential fraud, I am not fraud I am a plumber, I did a job for a regular client of 3 years, have been using square for years, without issue... Not today, The client paid as usual with the same card they have used for years, but square said it was fraud, are now holding my money and have gone into my actual bank account and removed the funds from the last payments from this card, draining my account completely and putting it into overdraft....WHY? Oh wait there is no customer service to answer that, hours and hours of phone calls to another country have netted me nothing, now they refuse to give me my first payment that started this, and have taken back the last payments made with that card, I talked to my client, they called their card services, and they said no problem on their end, and also no refund on their end. So square now has several thousand of my dollars, some of which they actually stole from me, and wont return...I dont even know what to do, And I have no idea how to get my money back, I cant even go do work because I have no money to put gas in service truck..they took it all... This is what happens when computers take over... You cant reason with a computer.. Now im broke.. And NOT a Fraud..

Horrible experience. I have a baseball team I run and we wanted a way to process credit cards. We advertise for our sponsors and had a business want to use a corporate card. I sent in all kinds of verification information, got confirmation and then put through our first order with one of our major sponsors. I then get an email that the account is deactivated, Square took 3.5% and the only service we received was deactivating the account and froze the rest of our funds. In the meantime I’ve invested money to create banners and advertising so I’m out that money on top of creating a bad experience for our sponsor as well. Then I call an 800 number that puts you in a loop…. Press 1…does nothing, etc. You can’t actually talk to someone. So as of now Square has our sponsorship money, charged a fee to deactivate my account, cost me hundreds more in advertising cost now we’re out of pocket for and ruined our relationship with our sponsor. If they were to look me up on the drivers license I sent in or on broker check they would find I’m a Compliance Manager for a major bank in one of the heaviest regulated industries in the world. Now they have my personal information, bank account (which they already tested) and money that was to be used for our team that was taken from a business and this will impact a lot of players.

Customer Service. I’ve been using Square for a very long time. In the past, all my reviews have been glowing. Not so much today. I called customer service to help with an issue with the gift cards. I did get my issue resolved, and the rep in the other end was helpful, once she understood my problem. BUT! The background noises were absolutely horrendous. At one point. I couldn’t tell if she was talking to me, or someone else was talking to me. One of the men in the background was so loud that I could tell the rep exactly what he was saying to the other customer. Not only is this VERY distracting, there is an issue of privacy. The rep told me she didn’t know how I was hearing the guy, as he was quite a distance from her. Believe me I HEARD THE GUY. There were also many other voices muddying our conversation. It just sounds very unprofessional and makes square sounds like they’re operating a “sweat shop”. Not good Square. Step up and get better headphones for your employees or put some kind of barrier between reps.

I don’t trust it with my money anymore. I have processed $2,400 with square. 4 separate transactions. Absolutely legitimate address of clients contact info and everything they ask for on the invoices. Each and EVERY SINGLE time I get paid they will not allow me to transfer MY money because they are doing a “periodic” review of my account. Customer service is a huge waste of time for a company that co tractors and business who work Mon-Sun rely on they’re hours are too limited. Chatting with them is also pointless as you will be essentially spammed with automated messages and it makes almost no sense for you to put in the time and effort to submit a well said and important question. At the moment for the 4th time I am seeing the money in my square balance unable to transfer and ya e been given the same automated response that I’ve received the last 3 times. I just don’t trust square and will discontinue using it. Hard earned money hat they keep for as long as they want with no reason as if they play important some part of your hard work and negotiations. It makes me so frustrated. Going to go back to accepting checks. Takes 1 day and it’s a smooth transaction. I recommend you using a different company.

Great app for small business, okay for friend to friend. I absolutely love this app and I would recommend it to anyone who has a small business or more. It does a great job of organizing the transactions that take place throughout the business day, week, month, year, what have you, as well as helping to keep your books straight for tax purposes. The only thing I would complain about, and it is just due to my impatience, is the mere fact that the availability of funds from time of transaction to the time in which that money is accessible seems, to me, a little excessive. Now, yes. I understand that it’s electronic communication and banks have to talk with other banks to make sure the funds are transferred to the correct account from the correct account; so on and so forth but it just still seems to drag on. Especially when you’re in need of said funds immediately. This leads me to my last point with regard to the slow availability times. What is the point of an instant transfer if the money in which you will be transferring is tied up in limbo? Seems to me if it is only that easy to do an instant transfer in which you require a fee to use, why can we not access our incoming monies just as quickly considering a fee per transaction anyway. Well, there you have it. An honest review from a loyal and honest customer. Hope that it may help to improve the already seamless work flow SquareApp provides as well as to help a new comer decide whether this product is right for them!

DO NOT USE!!!!!. I have put through a total of four small transactions over 3 days. Each one was on hold for at least a day and they suspended all transactions after the third and fourth transaction for no reason whatsoever. Sent me an email to attach years of information on a brand new business, which obviously doesn’t even exist yet. The email also said that if you need immediate access to the held funds to issue a refund and collect another form of payment, which is a LIE!!!!! Right after I did that, I received an email stating it takes 2-10 business days to post back to the customer (over a holiday weekend!!!!!😡😡😡😡😡). I cannot collect anymore money until they receive their money back and now I am unable to pay my rent and have irate customers, which I am going to permanently lose!!!!!! This service is HORRIBLE!!!!!! I didn’t mind the fees for what I thought would be a convenience for myself and my customers, but this has been nothing but a total nightmare!!!!! CALL THE BANKS, AUTHORIZE RELEASE OF THE FUNDS AND GIVE THE MONEY BACK NOW!!!!!!!! oh, and don’t bother with the “we understand this is frustrating” BS!!! It’s INSULTING.

Making simple things difficult . I have had a great experience on this app sending invoices, accepting payments, being user friendly etc. However, I now am having my account frozen because I’m not providing incredibly personal information about my business because of “security reasons.” 😂 I’m not showing you my company bank statements, contracts with customers, and individual invoices for jobs. First, it is a huge breach of privacy and absolutely none of Square’s business. I’m not forking over invoices and contracts for individuals. Second, it is a huge inconvenience to do this when running a business. The customer is right in front of me at the end of a job trying to give me money. I don’t need “added security.” What I need is to accept payment for jobs completed. I am no longer going to be using this app now or in the future. I also find it hysterical that it’s impossible to get a hold of someone in customer service to resolve any issues until someone posts something negative and tags the company. I’m awaiting a response from someone with a link to an FAQ page 🤣

Never worked. When I signed up for square the first thing it said to me was that i wouldn’t be able to accept payments? Which is the whole point of the app so why would this even be a thing? I tried everything on my own trying to figure why and how to fix this. I tried fixing my information thinking that i might have something in wrong. i thought that it might be my card swiper but when i logged in on another phone and tired there’s it was still the same problem. So finally i figure out how to contact square and talk to someone on the phone. The lady was so rude and couldn’t help me at all. I told her that I’d tried multiple times to edit my account information and she told me that since i had done that square won’t be able to fix the problem. To confirm i said so i won’t be able to ever use square and accept payments and she said that’s correct. I asked her if she could tell me why, or what i did that made my account do this and she couldn’t give me any explanation at all. When i got an email asking how my phone call was i told them this exact situation and said yes when it asked for a follow up call from someone else. It’s been three days and still no call. I won’t be using square ever again even if i could 🤣

Frustratingly inconsistent. I want this to work and so I can stop paying exorbitant eftpos fees to my bank. Despite regularly updating the app it constantly checks for new updates when I am trying to serve customers, then the app doesn’t recognise the reader. This happens at least a few times every market. Today at an event it stopped working and w deleted the app and reinstalled it. Now it wants access to my microphone to process payments. Really? I’m concerned about my privacy and don’t want to give it access so now the app won’t work at all. Honestly the bank eftpos works every time and this one glitches every time, as much as I wish it didn’t.

Not being maintained. Although the application functionality has been improving gradually with the appointments / payments functionality, I have found that the reader has ongoing compatibility issues with changes in IOS versions. Even minor updates seem to cause the reader to stop working for weeks. To this day, I still cannot get the device to pair to an IPAD Pro 2020 device. If you are okay to have intermittent reliability of payments, then look at this app, otherwise I suggest trying something else. Support is limited to none - don’t assume any active assistance solving problems.

Dishonest and disgraceful treatment of honest businesses. I’ve used the app for over 18 months and today they sent me an email stating they will close my account. No explanation and no notice and no one to talk to. They never called back when they said they would. They are ruthless to their honest clients with absolutely no regard how matters are handled. There is no recourse or appeal process or review. Basically once they determine to shut you down you have no other avenue. A simple explanation after 18 months of trading would have been appropriate. A strong warning that once you sign up you just don’t know when and why they will shut you down. Disgraceful customer service!!!!!

Payment cancelled error message moments after completion. Square has a major issue for us whereby a completed sale occasionally comes up with an error message only minutes later ‘Payment Not Completed’ ‘The transaction has been cancelled’. The error message only appears briefly. If you don’t catch it you may not even realise. We found out by chance and managed to catch the customer before they left. The customers phone banking app states ‘payment pending’. (This pending payment will not go through, make sure they tap again or collect their details to contact them later). For whatever reason the payment is being cancelled. We rang Square but they said suggested we were either cancelling accidentally or there is an issue with the customers bank. You can only see a list of cancelled transactions on the desktop Square website (not in the phone app). We had dozens of cancelled transactions occur in the last year alone. Check on your Mac/Pc, login to Square, go to Reports, then Transaction Status. There will be a list of Cancelled and Declined transactions. You might think you are processing payments and not even realise some aren’t going through.

I Love Square. As a small mobile business owner I love the flexibility square provides me. There are features I would love to have as well that don’t currently exist. I receive payments quickly, I love the new reminders for invoices. This is what I currently use the most other than taking direct payments. Has always been reliable and i receive my payments quickly.

Awful support. Square deactivated our account without warning. Asked them to reactivate it but they said they could not, without anymore explanation than that. They did say that we were “welcome” to start a new account with a different email address, which is fine but all of the financials could not be transferred and we would have to recreate all of our item photos as they could not be transferred over either. It’s a disappointment as the software is easy to use. If only their support was as easy to work with. I’ve gone with another provider as they’re far cheaper and they will at least be helpful.

Best thing that’s ever happened for my business. Square has helped us scale our business from small market stalls to a franchise. The best part is they actively keep improving and expanding their range. I wish their staff scheduling could connect directly to appointments so we can foster people onto the appointments but I’m sure it’s on their radar

Be careful when using Square! Not trustworthy!. Sometimes Square can loose connection and happened when I was processing the sale for a customer which technically could not be finished because it was showing “no connection”. The customer decided to pay me in cash and he was charged anyway by square. I never received this transaction or came on my reports and I had to make a transfer to the customer. I contacted square support and I did show them all screenshots of the customer bank transaction as prove but I had a terrible experience because they promised to give me free transaction as a compensation, which was much inferior of the value I lost and this never happened. So just be careful and consider other options as Wisepad 3 if you have a shopify store.

Easy transactions. I’ve been using square for the last 6 months for my personal training business. I found it a little confusing to set up the the tile but once that was done it’s been smooth sailing. It’s convenient for myself and my clients and easy to personalize services and products. Loving the invoicing add on! Clients have the option to pay from their phone with Apple pay and records straight to the pos reports, making it less time consuming for me entering in paid invoices. Much better then the EFTPOS system I had previously from the bank, not lock in fees, square takes its fees from daily sales so what you get in the bank is yours!

Simple and effective.. I’m a small electrical business starting out. So to have a pay by the month phone contract style of card reader from the big banks was not useful at all especially when transactions are low at this stage, but Pay as you make transactions charged at a percentage surcharge is way more effective for myself. Also the invoice write up for on the fly jobs is great simple and easy to use. Only down side for me is there is no quoting side of things. If they added a quote section as easy as the charge and go invoice section my business would be on the rise and it would all be in one easy place to find. Cheers

The best point of sale software hands down. I have used many different POS systems and Square is head and shoulders above the rest. The POS terminal does what it is supposed to but the real value I receive from Square is the software that comes along with it for free. The sales reports, inventory management, invoicing and other software tools help me manage my business while providing granularity about customer type, purchase frequency and other important sales functions which are indispensable for managing a business in a time constrained world. The ability to create a website and sell products online also comes with multiple integrations for Instagram and Facebook which allows me to connect with my customers via social platforms. The only platform that comes close is Shopify for online sales. Shopify’s online platform is perhaps (and I’m splitting hairs) slightly better and has a little more choice in payment networks and fractionally better social integrations but it’s pretty close. The swing factor for me was the fact that Square has its heritage in the offline world whereas Shopify’s heritage is in the online world. So it’s more driven by your businesses focus. But both companies have Omni channel capability. Square’s recent acquisition of Afterpay will no doubt provide some optionality for merchants as the acquisition is integrated. All in all, you can’t go wrong with Square.

The joys of square. Pocketable. Easy to operate even for a technotard. Convenient and always ready for that card purchase. Like the new pay on the phone feature sometimes the system crashes and need to restart my phone. But generally the system is very effective and convenient.

Few things needed to make it better. We are using square for restaurants and the online store. Need to be able to customise the text message that gets sent to customers after they have placed an online order or when order ready. The button on website for when changing time says ‘change later’ when you have already changed the time and you really just need it to say ‘accept’.

It’s good but...... I live this system for my small business it’s a good system and easy the only thing is og takes ages to connect to my phone and looks for updates every time I turn it on. Some times it takes up to 5 minutes to connect it and sometimes I have to delete it all together and reinstall it. Very frustrating when you have a client standing there waiting to pay and it won’t connect. Please please change it so I can update it myself at home when I don’t need it to work straight away. That’s the only negative besides that frustrating bit it’s an awesome little system and a fantastic help to a small business.

User Friendly. Have used square for many years, the tap & go hardware is great, easy to use and battery life is good to… been using it since the version that used the headphone jack. They can be temperamental when near multiple paired devices however Now using the terminal which is great. Only wish you could save a transaction eg table 1 tab etc. if you can I can’t see it :)

Good system, some annoyances. I use just the basic checkout function of the App, mostly on my iPhone, it works fine and funds arrive in my bank account quickly. A bit disappointed that the first chip and tap reader failed after only three months. Also, on the iPhone App you can add a note to the transaction which helps me match payments to invoices in my accounts system (I don’t use the app to generate invoices), but on the iPad App, you can’t add a note. Why the difference?

Not good…. I have contacted square on multiple occasions just to try and activate my account and accept card payments, but it is not letting me do it when I have provided the correct information every single time. I made a whole other account just to redo the process again, but no success. The emails are the same automated responses and are not very useful at all. It is just a repetition of what is said in the ‘about square’ and ‘frequently asked questions’ on their site. What’s the point of having a square when it won’t even work? 💀 thanks square, very cool.

Excellent but not perfect. The good: mobile card payments really are mobile and easy. Transaction fee is fair and it’s easy to use. Cost of setting up square is minimal and your up and running in minutes. The bad: I’ve been using square for maybe two years. I’ve had failures of multiple square chip readers. Not a disaster at around $60 each but they have a habit of failing during that busy trading period. Can get super infuriating. I think I’ve had maybe ten failures over this period (or 8). Not ideal.

One of the best tools I have had for a long time. I have a plumbing business & have found that I get my invoices paid faster I have the ease of book work done by the time I get home cutting hours out of the day. Recommend to any one running there own business, best tool I have got for quite a few years just wish it was around 20years ago.

Fantastic but card reader drops out. We love square. We use it as our POS system at our brewery and at markets/festivals. It is usually super fast taking payments. Only 2 things let it down. 1. The card reader drops out regularly and has to be reconnected. Takes a bit of fluffing around that is not good during busy times. 2. It would be good if we could fit more items on a screen so we didn’t have to scroll between screens. Other than that. Love it.

Tappers Faulty and Greedy Charges. I have had the original, plug in, small square and 2 Tappers and all have failed. I have upgraded to the Terminal and so far so good. 2% is high and then to add insult to injury, especially in these difficult times, you charge extra for manual input. My husband is sick of paying extra when he is out and about, and I have the Terminal, just because he has to do a manual input. WHY???? We are not about to buy another Terminal. He is now looking into Stripe for Payments 1.2% I believe and no extra charge for manual input. 😕

Good but some glitches. While the POS itself tells and show me everything important in relation to best and worst sellers , categories etc, we have had a few issues with the app freezing at inopportune times. Thankfully not too often but doesn’t look good when a customer comes to pay their $800-$1000 dinner and bar tab and I can’t get the POS to work at that moment.

Square improved my business!!!!. As a Landscape and Garden Care business the ability to either process cards at the job or invoice and the customer then pays online makes finalising jobs quick and effortless and means not having the insecurity of a lot of cash on hand or having to make the bank to deposit cash and cheques- Square has improved my business no end!!!!!!

Useful but comes with troubles. Usually works. However, I had troubles many times. Just lost a customer because the reader wouldn't connect to the app. I ran the troubleshooting and after an hour of effort I managed to reconnected it again. This is not the first time, sometimes reader wouldn't connect and the troubleshooting doesn't work after couple of hours it comes back. I have had my frustrations and still love it. It is the best option so far. Though, if I find a better application I would not hesitate to move.

Great system!!. I’ve used this for a year. It’s cheaper faster and more reliable and any big 4 banks system in Australia. I work with this in rural areas sometimes and it’s never let me down. Easy to use and has nice simple tool to track my day. I’ve used two CommBank eft pos type machines and they were expensive and the phone based one was very unreliable. Extremely embarrassing when you can’t charge someone for the product after it’s been used... I’d definitely not take the reviews which trash this too seriously. Of course it won’t suit everyone but now that it takes eftpos I’m delighted.

Worst update ever. This latest build constantly loses connection to printer and reader when in background. Returning to app directly or via intent through another app takes ages and totally breaks the user experience for my customers (adds 10 seconds). I hate seeing the splash screen loading everytime followed by printer and reader connecting. This has nothing to do with Bluetooth phone connection as the printer is always connected yet square needs another 10 seconds to connect despite running in background. Please go back to previous build ASAP.

Great idea on paper, terrible in practice. I’m pretty stumped as to how this thing has so many positive reviews. Constant messages popping up during a busy service preventing smooth transactions. ‘Transaction failed’ notifications coming up forcing you to change a customer twice then having to explain that only one of the transactions will actually debit the customer. In Italy when we encountered this issue we refunded a few customers for the second debit, only to discover that not only did we give them their drinks for free, but we f uc king essentially paid them to come in and drink for free. Bill splitting is extremely frustrating. If you have a group sitting in together and then few of that particular table end up wanting to pay their part of the bill and leave, it makes everyone else come up and pay the whole bill - even if they aren’t planning on leaving. This has resulted in people getting annoyed with having to get up and they end up leaving anyway. Honestly, f uck this overpriced device.

Not pairing with phone. I purchased my square reader and set it up with my phone ready for markets. I did a test purchase and it all worked perfectly. Then covid hit and markets were cancelled. One year later, I’m packing for a market and checking to make sure my square reader is charged and ready to go. All of a sudden I’m getting a message that it’s not able to pair and a POS update is required. There is not much help on square website or support about this issue other than to make sure your app is up to date and Bluetooth on. It doesn’t help. I’m stuck with a reader that won’t work and no way to accept payments at tomorrow’s market. Very disappointed.

Excellent product for businesses. Amazing product to have for small businesses. Easy to use and very professional. Fees are fair in comparison to most merchant facilities, especially banks. Only advise I would give to prospective buyers is to keep in mind to allow at least 2-3 days to receive your funds in your bank account. I’ve been using square for over 3 years now and I have never had a single “next day deposit” as they heavily promote. I bank with one of the big 4 so it’s not on my end. Just a little disappointing as there’s no need to stuff around and hold it for so long. Thanks!

Highly Recommend. I am a market stall holder at the Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets and I chose to use Square as my POS...I’m so happy I did,I never have had a problem with using it nor receiving my money mostly overnight unless its the weekend then I receive my funds Monday by close of business. A great system and easy to use POS. Square is so easy and flexible. I own a very small winery and Square makes travelling to local and interstate events and taking payments a breeze. The POS system is easy to use and intuitive. Rates are competitive with no ongoing fees. We have both the square reader and the terminal and love them both. I highly recommend Square!

Needs attachments option. I use Square as a small business to send my invoices, but I attach a PDF invoice and I can only do this via Square on Safari, which is pretty annoying as I would prefer to just use the app, or even Chrome, which is my preferred browser. (Chrome crashes whenever I try to upload a an attachment) Please add the option to attach files via the app, either to this one or the Square invoicing app. Other than that I quite like Square. I tried a number of other payment processing options and have stuck with Square as it’s simple, clean and easy to use.

Best POS ever.. Was using PayPal at a market, slow processing and buggy connection. Square is always fast and reliable. My wife was using Vend in her shop but opened a new outlet and we had problems. My daughter exported the whole inventory to excel, imported it to Square and had us up and running within hours! Much cheaper, easier to use, more reliable and integrated than others we’ve tried. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Perfect small business solution. Have been using Square for about 2 years now and even when we had an issue with our “swipe/insert” unit, it was replaced within a couple of days - we upgraded to contactless at that point. Can not fault the Follow up service - online or phone. Invoicing for online sales works very well and we’ve even tested the refund process!

Purchased it to use it - terrible experience. I have been in business for 12 years now, I purchased the reader to use for quicker payments however after a few days of using it they decided themselves that my business doesn’t meet their needs. I don’t know how they have 5 stars at all, I would give you zero. No one should buy the reader unless they know they can use it before purchase. I’ll be going back to using PayPal and online payment methods. Look around people, there are better options out there like Shopify, PayPal, Xero and MYOB for payments, Square is all in the name.

Great System. I was using a EFTPOS machine from the bank, they were charging an amount each month. I sell my products at markets and two years changed to Square, best thing I ever did. I only got the EFTPOS facility for the convenience of my customers. At craft markets most come with cash though this is starting to get less and less, it is great to have fees when a sale goes through the facility.

Great App. Love this app, have been using Square before it was a Point of Sale App. Live that it gives you the flexibility to run my business and provide reports including inventory. Highly recommend using the contactless device, before Square I was using two EFTPOS machines that would never keep enough charge for a full days trade, my Contactless device runs for three days straight without charging, I’m sure it would last longer if I don’t recharge. Great for small business, love that they’re provided a referral system, have recommend the app to so many people.

Square didn’t charge customers & they got their items for free.. Had to revert back to using cash on 2 of our busiest trading days due to Square. The customers bank account shows they’ve been charged, but because the transaction on our end spins for a while & then says ‘try again’ it means the charge on their end will bounce back out of their account, so we essential have given the customer their item for free. They walk away believing they’ve paid & no amount of explanation will change their mind…can’t blame them either! This is the second time this has happened in 3 weeks, and on our busiest trading days. Beware, Square seems great at the beginning but it’s not trustworthy.

Perfect for Market Stall. Love my square! I use it on my weekend market stall, it’s so easy to use and cheaper than the competitors. You’re able to add items to you inventory with photos for quick transactions. And I love checking my sales data at the end of the day and throughout to see what I sell most of, peak times and cash flow. Have recommended it to others.

Fantastic!. I’m a sole trader with a relatively young business. Square is fantastic, simple to use and to be able to run reports, keep a track of inventory and on the services my business offers is really great. The transaction costs are also very low so having the system is not a drain on my running costs. I would not even consider a card machine from the banks because their monthly charges would be a drain on my running costs. I like being able to create my own invoices and be able to take payments remotely when my business takes me on the road. I started with the chip reader but have recently upgraded to the Square Terminal which I love. It looks great and clients comment on how professional it looks. The only downside is that I can’t book appointments on it. I would love to be able to load Square Appointments on it to make things seamless. Hopefully that will happen. I highly recommend Square. Do yourself, your business and your bottom line a favour, particularly in these uncertain times when every penny counts.

Not great for restaurants. “Square For Restaurants” I’ve had to spend thousands to upgrade my wifi network and still there are issues with orders not printing in the kitchen or bar. The product has clearly been created without basic knowledge of how a restaurant POS needs to work - the main issue being all data is captured as a ‘transaction’ whereas a restaurant needs the data captured per table. Example of why this is an issue - occasionally a customer will call and claim they have been overcharged, however we can’t look up all the tables (ie search for all transactions on table 15), we have to search by transaction which requires us to ask them for the last 4 digits of their credit card. This is hard if they paid cash, we need to filter by cash payment and then manually scroll through all the cash transactions around the time they think they paid. A really clunky process - it would be much easier to filter by table number and within one or two clicks I’d find their bill on the system. Many other issues but that’s the best example I can think of that demonstrates the system has not been created with actual restaurant knowledge. Clearly just adding a couple features onto the retail-focused system.

Awesome app, one suggestion though. Just started using square and i love it!! Love being able to keep track of all my sales & to see what sells best. My only suggestion would be an option to separate a days sales. I go to mulitple locations on the same day some times, and would like to be able to separate the sales per location (unless there is already an option for this and i havent found it?) Thanks for the great app & an option away from the banks!

Easy to use. I am a pre-teen running my own mini business. I got a square reader for my birthday and instantly fell in love. It is easy to use and quick transfer to a bank account. It does take a while to verify a new bank account but it is worth the wait. I have not set it up online yet as I don’t have a website or social media for it. I definitely recommend it. Cheap and easy to use!!

As a POSE and point of sale. I love square and use it for all my transactions but have some issues which needs to be fixed: Converting a ticket to an unpaid invoice. This is missing in square to issue a ticket for a customer and save to be paid later; but if customer needs the order to be invoiced to him or his company we have to redo from scratch. Please take a note.

Don’t waste your time. They recently held up to $3000 of funds because we had a couple of big purchases made through the Square that was flagged, they only sent me one email over a period of week to let me know which I over looked, they also continued to take transactions and with hold the funds in this time, their support centre is useless, I’ve had to send of some additional information about my business so that they will release MY FUNDS, that in my opinion should have been asked when setting up the square, ect business registration certificate, and abn, what an absolute joke, trust me go to the 4 big banks don’t waste your time on a useless and amateur company

Owen Jackman. I have been trying for three hours to set up the Square Reader to an IPad Pro 11 inch 2nd generation. It does not work! The Bluetooth setting on iPad does not find the reader. The reader instructions (small booklet that came with reader) refer to a menu item (tap top left) that does not exist at all on the Square app. I have deleted and downloaded the Square app numerous times, it just restarts exactly where I was last, ie usually the page with the trial $1.00 purchase instruction. I have never got past that, that page does not have shut down or return to start button. How on earth does this reader work! What am I doing wrong. Any help would be fantastic. Thank you **Update. I have found the technology to solve my problem. I placed the $60 Square item on my anvil and used a 32oz ball peen hammer to reduce the Square to extremely small pieces and then discarded the rubbish! What a waste of money!

Peice of Sh*t!. Did a booking for a large amount and debited the customer account only to receive an email from these fools to advise that they cannot confirm a chargeback amount based on my account history!! Asked me to refund the total amount back to the customer and find an alternative payment method! Funny how these idiots think how simple of a process it is to refund a full payment for a client who is in the middle of traveling. Make sure to put up a notice on your website to advise new users that the payment will not be processed unless there is proof of coverage incase of a chargeback. Worst part is the clowns in the call centre telling me how to run my business by advising me not to process payments over the amount of my affordability in case of a chargeback. Wonder how this is calculated? Worst app ever. If you’re in Australia, Strongly recommend you going with a big 4 bank and pay the minimal fee for the safe professional service. I will most definitely telling my clients as well as fellow businessmen who use this service to change ASAP.

Best pos app so far. I have been using this app for 9 months now and I cannot find anything negative about it, It connects to my iPhone easily and fast and the Same for the iPad. They only have a 1.9% charge per transaction and payments taken Saturday are processed and cleared on Monday morning, (but some Australian big 4 banks will take longer to process) opposed to PayPal charging a massive 2.9% per transaction and then holding funds for 3+ weeks, and 70+ days if a customer tells there bank they didn’t make the transaction. I used to be a PayPal fan until I tried this app.

Cheap. I made $381.00 in sales and I finally got it to work and it says I have a balance of $129.27! Where is the rest of my money?? I thought square was good?! Ugh not a happy customer. 😠

Square vs clover. I used square for 1 year with my small business. Then they upped their debit card fees from 10 cents per tap to 7 cents plus 0.75% per tap.. I’m sorry but I can understand visa fees because visa companies bill square. But debit costs them nothing. This new fee increased my square fees by over $300 a month so.. I changed to clover. I HIGHLY recommend Clover Canada. Amazing in every way! Now it costs me 3 cents per debit tap for clover and 1.7% for visa taps as opposed to 2.75%-3% for visa taps from Square. I will save $3000 a year just from changing from square to clover and honesty.. I mean.. that’s a LOT of money and I am a small busienss. That’s my vacation money right there. And that is an increase for debit alone! The clover hub and app is even better than square. Simple, big buttons, my clients love it. I love it! Clover all the way!

Suddenly stopped working. I have the square and used it for about 1.5 months. We had two shows over the weekend. It worked fine one day, but next day the rap stopped working. I’ve tried everything including removing and reinstalling everything numerous times. Very Disappointed!!! The help menu keeps looping me into the same instructions. Not very helpful.

Garbage.. Why is daily cut off set for 5PM Pacific? I still have sells after that time daily. My daily sales and what square deposit in never match due to this stupid set up! I only use this app because franchise demand so

Really enjoying the Square POS experience, except we really NEED the Square developers to post proper version changelog notes, not the same boilerplate text with every update. Don't be lazy. We need to know what has changed with each version. This is not optional. Please and thank you!

I’m Dying Inside. My Square Reader “malfunctioned” after my first transaction on Saturday morning of a three-day craft show. I had to ask people to pay with cash until my husband arrived with his reader, after his Market closed. I lost many, many sales. The AI “help” couldn’t understand my issue. Hugely frustrating.

Switched to Helcim!. Account disabled for no reason and no help from support. Absolutely horrible experience.

Cant use. Unable to use, when trying to create a account it tells you to update the app. App was just installed so it most currant version.

“Random Review”. Ive made thousands and thousands of deposits on square. Until today when I was making a deposit and they told me I was “randomly selected” for a review and that all transfers in that day would be held for 48 hours. Sounds scandalous to me. No warning, no nothing. Just held several thousand dollars from my income for no reason other then a random review. Ill be deleting my account and using a reputable company.

Deactivate my account and taking 90 day for my balance transfer. I just join the square account after asked me verification done then I mad transactions and good everything 6k I have square account then surprise account deactivated and my own money will hold for 90 day for reason I am new this platform such a bad experience who just someone told me this square account is best I will is bad and badly experience with I will never recommend someone be honest

Need to allow Tap to Pay on IPhone. The web site says you can but I can not find this setting to turn on

Best of the best. Has come so far since it started. No bugs or issues and we use it constantly in and outside of the store. Many have tried to switch us, however the diversity that square offers is like none other.

The outages cost us money. It’s really crazy that there’s no backup, or any attempt to communicate with customers to let us know what is happening, so we can at least understand why we are losing money/customers and why have zero access to our funds.

Good product but..... It should be accepting debit cards for more than $100.00 I know we can’t tap or Apple Pay over $100.00 with the use of a debit card but the product should accept paiements over $100.00 by debit card by inserting the card in the slot like every other Paiement device. Witch would make this product perfect.

Square. Most un user friendly reports ever. Should have a summary of sales that includes total of each item sold and the number sold, subtotals, totals and fees. All in one place. Also transfers should be easier to locate in the menu.

Simply the best. Fast as lightening and awesome support both online and by phone. I am super thrilled with Square POS and I have never used anything Apple before. I highly recommend! I bought the whole system package and it is great! Now I have added one of their packages so I can track wholesale cost and have inventory reports too! I was worried that it would be too complicated as I am an older business owner. Their step by step process to set up was very straightforward and easy to follow!

Great PoS. I do like SQUARE, it’s been so handy to have at our markets and shows. Great to be able to make a sale then and there. My one complaint is the lack of options/settings within: category’s, sub-category’s, etc. To me they’re missing those ellipsis icons with a good drop down menu of settings.

A very handy straightforward app for small business owner. Exactly what I need.. This app is reliable, straightforward and easy to use. It seems well designed. There’s the odd hardware connectivity issue, but that is rare and is easily done by shutting down the app and restarting it. I’ve only had to do that a few times over the last couple months.overall though, the app works well, the device works well and I love the reports and information that I get out of this app. It’s everything the small businessman needs.

System failure. September 7 we weren’t able to use the system at all. Very big inconvenience!

Simplifies the process.. We are a multi vendor client with a commercial kitchen. We enjoy using this service as accounting and tracking is easy.

Lousy reporting.. I don’t enjoy the reports. I can’t created an easy to read daily z. Taxes are not split apart and displayed with the category sales. You have to find them in a different report. Then, when you collate it all and enter it in another program you can’t sumcheck because the square report sum includes tips but they’re not entered in a standard daily deposit total. When I tried to export as a csv file, the square report included a $ sign attached to the numbers, which cant be entered by copy/paste into quick books desktop. Other than overcoming this bookkeeping hassle the program works well, was easy to integrate into an iPad with a square terminal without having to invest in square retail. It makes daily, weekly monthly reporting and reviewing simple. And it beats the bank regarding transaction pricing and simplicity.

Square has so far proven its greatness.. Used it for months with great success.

Issues every second day. I’ve had the square 2nd generation now for few months and already requested a new one , keep going out of service every second day , hard to connect to my iPhone , really hard to have a business and use this product, bad choice

Device is not recognized by iPad or iPhone. I have been on the phone with Apple for almost an hour trying to get the square contactless reader to pair. Neither will recognize it. I have reinstalled the app on my iPad and iPhone, and nothing works. Until now, I have never had any problem with either the square or the app.. This is my busy season and I need my square!! Help! Love my square. Had square now 3/4 yrs. now ! And love it !! Never any issues ! Way cheaper then the competitors out there and being payed right away help a lot !

Middletown Photo Studio, NY - Very Happy. I am a photographer at Middletown Photo Studio, Middletown NY. We have been using Square for 3 years. We have not had any problems getting the funds. We use Instant Deposit especially after weddings so we can pay our photographer assistants. You need about a minimum of $55 in transactions (enough to cover transaction fees) to use the Instant Deposit feature and you have a window between 3 minutes (time for transactions to sho up) and a couple of hours to use the instant deposit or else it will be too late and the funds will go into their regular system and you have to wait a day or two. If the transaction was for $35 then I can use my own credit card to add $20 to use the instant deposit and get it right back (after the 3 minutes it takes to show up).

Will never recommend. I had square for years for my business and loved it, I even used their capital program which helped me in my business during times of need, and I loved the way it worked. I stopped using it when I created a store on my squarespace website which at the time wasn’t integrated with square. After 2 years I saw that it was integrated and tried to set up a store for products I was affiliated with and they suddenly just stopped my account entirely. No warning. No explanation. No help from customer service. Here it’s been over two years and out of convenience on my devices I thought it would be nice to at least be able to run my services through them and they still will not allow me to reapply. Again no explanation, no help. Just No. I will definitely let every person who asks me my opinion on a merchant service, know about this terrible and disappointing experience. Save your self the confusion and inconvenience and use a different platform.

Constant updates cause more work. Customer service is non existent.. I’ve been a Square user for six years now, and I think it’s finally time to terminate our relationship. They have a habit of constantly updating the app, which creates a problem where my employees can no longer find the buttons that used to be there for very simple transactions. It causes me to have to spend more payroll on training, and sometimes we don’t even know that the app has updated until we have a line of customers. Also, occasionally when they update the system the hardware is no longer compatible with the software, and then you end up having to buy more equipment. It’s next to impossible to get anyone to talk to you if you need assistance. On the recent update they decided to display all of my yearly sales data right on my register system where any of my employees or customers could see it with the touch of a button. There’s absolutely no need to have that kind of information on a point of sale system. I think it’s time to find a company that cares as much about my time and my data security as I do.

Square froze my account & my funds w no explanation. Im an interior designer out of Chicago. I was able to process one clients payment but for the second payment my account was flagged. They requested more information to verify the validity of my business. I provided those details. The next message i got from them was that they were freezing my account and would not release my latest clients payment for 2 months. Zero explanation. They flagged my phone number and refused my calls. I DM them on Facebook and they tell me they’ll get right back to me but then refuse to Helio me resolve this. They finally send me an email saying that my account has been disabled and I will no longer be able to use their service. Square is known for this. Look at Consumer Affairs. Horrible ratings. I wish I had known before. Now I will have to wait until July to have my clients payment deposited. For some business owners this has resulted in a nightmare. Go use Wave or other reputable credit card processors.

Hold my money hostage. Square shut us down and froze our money for no reason at all. When asked why, they say it’s because their computer software noticed something that wasn’t right. In the mean time my customers can’t pay me, and all my money is frozen. We can’t even pay our employees or bills now. They say it’s for my protection and my customers protection. That’s a lie. They also need access to my phones microphone 24 hours a day or else you can’t use their platform to take payments. I don’t understand why the must have access to my phones microphone 24 hours a day. They now said they will refund me all the money in 90 days if I choose to quit. So we switched to Costco payment processing. So far Costco beats them hands down. Costco rates are even 1% cheaper and customer service is 5 star. Costco says square locks up customers money because they need the money to pay their own bills. So they use the customers money as a free loan. All Makes sense to me now. Save yourself the time and use Costco 3rd party payment services.

Frequently Down and Slow. It is so frustrating that this app and square in general has been EXCEPTIONALLY glitchy and slow. Whether it is updating inventory, creating new items, scheduling, or working on other parts of the app; it will crash or just not be available for periods at a time. This has made an impact on my businesses efficiency when we need to get things done. It’s not only happening to us, but I’ve also experienced it as a customer when I’ve gone into places that use square hardware for check out. Transactions won’t go through and it drags out check out speed. I have had to stop working on tasks completely because square will be down. We are looking forward to having a more fast check out system in the future since this lack of efficiency has become more consistent. We will swap as soon as we can to another checkout system and app suite.

Locked me out. Hi I made a square account for my business and when I sighed up it had me use my phone number but that number was a personal number that ended up getting deactivated and square locked me out of my account every time I try to log in it sends a verification to that number even tho that number is no longer Available or active at that when I try to click use another method it just take me back to sending a verification via number with no other choices or ways for me to log in I’ve been locked out for over a year now still can not get in and you do not give another option of verification or choice to click number unavailable I just need my account back because it’s also linked to my website so I cannot access that either and once again there are no options for support or anything very very frustrating

Perfect for small restaurants!!!!. The system works amazingly well. It has more features and benefits then similar systems that charge as much as $100 a month for their services. With square you only pay the credit card processing fees. In addition, the integrated online ordering platform is an amazing piece of technology accessible to businesses of my size. The functionality is every bit as good as the big guys that I compete against and makes our business look modern and tech savvy and our customers eyes who demand things like online ordering. What’s more, when we had a problem with the online ordering capability square responded quickly to fix the issue and brought us online. I couldn’t recommend this product in any stronger terms!

So Disappointing. I’ve used Square for almost a year now, taken 3 payments through the link and card reader for my small business. The first 2 transactions were available almost immediately but now I’ve completed a $620 transaction to pay myself, so I can keep track of my expenses using the Square debit card- and NOW, at Christmas, ALL of my money is tied up between my other account and my Square account! It says on the app that payments aren’t processed on Friday and I will probably have to wait until Monday- I needed that money TODAY to finish a job so I can start another one on Monday!! It’s absolutely ridiculous that I can’t get access to MY OWN MONEY. I bet they immediately process their $17 fee they took to process my payment, but now I’m screwed for the rest of the week, and I’m going to be set back days on my schedule and I have 4 kids to buy Christmas for. Jeez- I’ll just go back to using cash or Invoice Simple.

Bad performance and buggy. When I first got square I thought it was pretty good but as time went on and operating system updates came out I learned very quickly that square will constantly have issues keeping the credit card readers connected any receipt printers and or cash drawers online due to network errors constantly. By constantly I mean the point of sale system will go off-line every 60 to 225 and usually will give you a network error and will not re-connect your printers until you power cycle the entire point of sale system. Although the point of sale system has some nice features, as a business owner I am switching to another point of sale system due to the lack of reliability of square.

No Access to Bank Transfers. You have my money. I cannot instant transfer my money. I am at the store with supplies I need to run my business. I call you, you tell me all of your people who can help me, TO INCLUDE A A SUPERVISOR, are OFF FOR THE WEEKEND. We are open on the weekend and need access to our money. This is the 2nd time this has happened and will be reported to the CFPB. I should be able to transfer funds at any time,; regardless of the fact that you don’t have employees working over a weekend. That is not my problem! You take my fees out of my account over the weekend, but won’t allow me to get access to it? I want reimbursement for all of the fees you deducted this weekend since we can’t even use what we are paying for! My wife and I are small business owners and CANNOT AFFORD INCONVENIENCE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO RUN OUR BUSINESS BECAUSE OUR BUSINESS "partner" IS NOT PARTNERING WITH US. This is totally unfair, abusive, and displays a clear lack of empathy for your small business owner customers. How are you going to resolve our problem? It will be escalated. There is no excuse for this happening; AGAIN. If you are not prepared to be a bank, don’t be a bank. I’m addition, I am needing to change bank accounts connected to Square for payroll taxes, but it takes forever for you to attach a new account? Why is it so hard to work with Square? Love it!. I’m the owner of a small business actually two and I have used square for 3 years now. I have been in business for 15 years and I have to say it’s the most honest upfront system to process payments I’ve used and I’ve used 3 this is my 4th this is the best hands down no hidden fees everything upfront all cards process the same. You receive your money the next day 90% of the time. I have also received 3 loans the easiest process ever and lower than most banks without the hassle. Gods grace no charge backs and no issues! What I would like to see is being able to to check out two clients on the same ticket at the end. If two people come together and one decides to pay I have to do two separate transactions. That’s all I would add. I would recommend square business to anyone and I have!

Awful!!!!. Is it possible to rate with NO STARS??? What a terrible experience! After our third charge, we received an email stating the funds were being held till we completed a form that they sent us, which was requesting more information about our business. We have proceeded to complete this same form and provide all the information point of sale requested three times!! Point of sale has yet to deposit the funds into our account!! What a joke! At this point we are issuing a credit to the vendor and canceling this useless service from point of sale! Maybe it should be called “what’s the point of sale” because they don’t allow the sale to happen! I would highly recommend that you stay away from this service and try another vendor!

Customer service. For over a year square was great! The fees aren’t bad, and it allows me to accept much more business at the farmers market where I sell. The app worked well and I had no complaints. But it took well over a month, almost two, with me constantly calling and emailing, to verify that I own my account. This meant that I could still use square, accept payments from customers, (and of course square took their % out of my earnings just fine), but it meant that the money I earn would not be sent to my bank account. Not getting money I earned for nearly two months hit me hard. I was constantly told to wait a week for it to be verified and that I’d get an email and it just never happened. In one day I contacted customer service three times, was on hold for over an hour, and that’s finally when they helped me. Before customer service didn’t understand what was going on, or just hung up on me. It took the right person to understand what was going on and if that specific person didn’t answer my call, I’m sure my money would still be withheld from me. There was no effort by many square employees so help. I was told to “please be patient” as if almost two months of waiting wasn’t being patient. It really feels like square doesn’t care about their users and are just happy to take their percent from my earnings and as long as they can do that then there is no rush to help.

Don’t trust it anymore. I used this app for a couple years. Recently dealing with a scammer. This app makes it too easy for clients to dispute services. I use this app for my tattoo studio. Had a client say she was “over charged” and tried to make some lie about it being a scammer but the only way for someone to dispute a transaction is for the cardholder to call and dispute. So now my client is getting away with disputing a non refundable deposit. She’s already received her tattoo/ service. I don’t appreciate my money being held. This is lost wages for myself and I also lost time that I won’t get back. And also equipment that I used. I don’t think I’ll ever be using this app again. They should really make disputes harder for the payer. The service provider should be able to do something before someone try’s to scam. Now I have to wait till October for this to be resolved. She dispute was given back to her and I have yet to get my money back. Square should be responsible for lost wages and more.

Overall. My overall review of Square is great…. I do have one thing that has been a thorn in the side…. We’ve had 5-6 Square loans over the last few years, always paid in 5-6 months, never had to make an actual payment as our sales were strong enough to support…. We’ve been paid in full on our last loan since February and haven’t had an offer to date…. Granted we aren’t in need of the finances, but the extra money would allow us to order ahead and have our materials age and color while we use what inventory we have…. Having another 6-7 lifts of lumber would give us an added color to our already stellar inventory…… other than that, we are pleased with Square…. Thank you…

Good and then well, hum. I have several businesses and have used Square almost from their very start. As a service company Square is an awesome pay on the spot company. If you are a one man show. (Would be nice if I could give tech a receive only login, without full access.) I have just opened a glass company and decided to use Square as well. This has been rough. The POC system is great. Setting it up is easy once you learn to navigate the system. My main issue has been printing a receipt. Try to print them from email they look bad, very bad. Don’t have a lot of cash so bought a Bluetooth thermo printer and it works with everything even prints my photos but Square only supports very expensive printers from one brand. Why can’t Square print to a linked printer? Everything else can. Awesome system in every way as long as you don’t give receipts.

Suddenly suspended and deactivated account. I start using square about 2 years ago and I have been very loyal since the day I start until I did a big job to a customer and cost the customer parts money and labor. After I charged the customer. They suspended the transaction and asked me for bunch of paperwork and government proofs and picture of receipt. I did everything square wanted and then they no longer taking calls and they wants me to contact them with (EMAIL) that doesn’t even exist at all I could say square is a big thefts and holds the amount of 4$k for 120 days and could be extended however square wants. So if square hold the amount. And can’t answer my calls or email who am I supposed to contact ?

Why Must I Print in STONE AGE?. Mar 22 - Updating this review. Downloading a newer version because the previous one was an ABSOLUTE DOG! Took forever to launch and entering the amount on keypad was grim. Presses often not recognized and close to 2 seconds to register the input. If not careful the amount had fewer characters than what was entered. Lets hope this has been corrected with the March 10 update. U P D A T I N G the review here. Now adding another annoyance. The TURN ON BLUETOOTH TO CONNE... message stupidity every time the app gets launched I don’t use BT. I don’t want the overpriced and redundant BT printers and accessories hawked in order to use the Reader. All that does is get in the way and slows things down. Just get me in the app and let me conduct a sale. Stop asking for receipt... printed, emailed, texted, add to contacts, do this, stupidity. I’m smart enough to blow my nose without getting slime all over my hands so I’m smart enough to find those services if l wanted them without being pestered to death by Square asking. (02/20) - - - - - All I want to do is print on my local network but can I? Noooooooo. Not unless I go out and buy some stupid square printer. If my customer wants a receipt I have to take a screenshot and then print that screenshot off my local network. How back asswards is that? If there is something I’m missing about printing please let me know but this seems so Neanderthal.

Square I have been customer of them for over 4/5 years now, they work in my favor they care for customers, it’s funny when you see all these suspicious companies having holds do not take it personal it’s business they hold your account to make sure it’s not fraud with all the fraud that is very risky now and days I have processed over 1.5 million dollar With square and has helped me greatly with there capital they give that is convenient and does not reflect on credit, they loaned me starting off with 4,500 I’m now up to $35,000 in capital they truly helped me and even lowered my rate ... I would not be in business if it was not for square, they current have me at lower rate and every year lower a bit to help me I love square and currently run 4/500,000 with them ... thanks square

Very Bad experience. It was my first transaction for about $1000 and an extra tip of 300 from a very VIP personality. I used Square for that transaction because they didn’t had Venmo or cashapp. And once the payment was received in my square they kept the full amount and told me you’re not safe with this transaction and we want your safety that why we can’t release the funds. Send us the phone number, home address, email address and screenshots of your conversation with the customer. That customer was a famous personality. It was so awkward to ask them these personal question like who would be comfortable giving you their personal number and home address. And why would i send my conversation with customer to square. I still provided everything and they deactivated my account. That money was stuck i had to refund the customer and then awkwardly asked them to send me the money through some other mean. Very bad experience and rude customer care

READ BEFORE USE. I’ve worked for many jobs who used square and never heard anything bad, I started my own business a few weeks back so obviously I went with square, my first 2 transactions were no problem, one for $200, another which was a full house wash (I own a pressure wash business ) was $1000, ok no problem, then a big one came with all the paperwork and ID needed to verify his identity for $7000, he owned an apartment complex and needed roofs and driveways cleaned, he offered to pay with card I had no problem with it, coming to find out the next day my account was deactivated and my money was on hold for 90 days because I went from doing small jobs to a big one all the sudden, which is what small businesses thrive on and wish for, I have a 2 year old, and a baby on the way, things like these to happen should be illegal, it’s embarrassing to tell the costumer what is going on. So don’t use square there are many different applicatikns to use but square is the most known.

No loyalty to their customers. I was a Square customer for 2 years, had 2 lone’s and did approx 90,000 a year in transaction with them. Not one problem, in till they offered me a third lone. Square contacted us by email and offered us a loan against our credit processing fee. We had taken to other loans like this and they had worked out well, it was December and every small business can use extra cash at the end of the year so we figured why not. Within 24 hours our square account was closed during the middle of the business day. After many hours on the phone trying to contact a human to find out a reason why the excuse that was given was that we had violated their terms of service somehow. Know for the reason was given, and no more information of why. As a small business owner this really put us in a bind, luckily my bank was very quick acting and we manage to get credit card processing set up through them within four days. I will never recommend Square to anyone else and I will never do business with them in anyway shape or form again. My best advice is STAY AWAY!!!!!

Thousands of payments processed by home and repair service businesses using Square" As a home repair business owner i can confirm squares statement above is the biggest lie i've ever read After my first transaction i waited a week for the ACH transfer to post when it finally went through the money never showed up, I contacted support to be told it should be available in 24hours and this is a normal process, less then a hour passes and now my account is deactivated and the payment is now being held for 90 days! so now im sitting on $1200 in materials i have to float aswell as the pay for my apprentice! when i tried to reach out i was told they have nothing to say to me as im a deactivated account even refused to let me speak to a manager but dont worry the account team will email me in 24-48 hours which they did, to repeat the same no reason deactivation email i had already been given and now aren't replying to my emails DO NOT USE SQUARE

Makes it easy for starters. Just opened a Ice cream shop and I can’t express well enough how square has made my inventory, sale and records so easy to keep up with. Daily reports keeps me on point with so many things. Like top 5 selling Ice cream, cones, helps with averages how thing are selling weekly in comparison to previous weeks, annual totals, sales tax, discounts all at your finger tips. Being able to make transactions using card with one easy swipe without spending hundreds on some high dollar cash register. Phone or Pad is only you need, which for me is even restricted when I’m out side the shop on location. I would advise everyone just starting in sales to get one and start making money right away.

D & D Barber Supply, LLC. I was missing so much in sales from potential customers because I did NOT trust this company, was new to me. Many of my customers advised me they had used it for a couple of years and never had problems, money in account next business morning and where totally satisfied. So, after soul searching and believing in my customers I folded and gave it a try.. I turned in my merchant account machine with my bank and just went for it. BEST decision ever, my fees are so much lower and the money is in bank next business day. The only draw back I have now is the NEW changes in the percent I have to pay for each transaction and I’m not particularly happy with my deposits going in at 5:00pm instead of the morning and the additional$.10 PER transaction. Although, it still is less expensive than my OLD way of merchants account.

Terrible Customer Service. At first everything was great. But then we started getting busy as a company and having higher price jobs. That’s when all the obstacles came. They decided to flag my account on a Friday! Stating they needed 24 hours to review my account. Which means all transactions were held up until they complete there review. I have drivers to pay per job. So now I have to pay out of pocket and hope they don’t delay my funds any further. Not to mention you can’t just call square you have to go into the app and get a ticket # and then call in IF they’re available. If no one is available you get a chat representative which doesn’t have the authority to fix anything! What a nightmare! How is that customer service when you’re running a business of your own. As a business owner this is the last possible thing you want to deal with on top of running your daily operations. I’m extremely disappointed and frustrated.

Can you guys add these features please.. You guys are legit awesome. I have not had any issues with this app. Been using this since like 2016. Was wondering if you guys could add some features to the app. 1. Button where customers can prepay a portion of the ticket and still keep the ticket open, until pickup is completed and the ticket closes out into the customer directory as usual. 2. Button where customers are able to pay full amount of ticket and still keep ticket open, so that later when pickup is completed then it closes out into the customer directory for future reference. 3. Button to let us send the customer a receipt of the ticket, when a new ticket is opened. (Via text) texting feature can or will be associated with the business phone number. To eliminate part of printing of receipts. 4. Button to let us send a customer a text when order is ready. 5. Fix an issue with date and time for when a ticket is created. Make it fixed, so that when reprinted it won’t change date and time. 6. Button to let us use the option for an upcharge in percentage or fixed amount just like the discount features. Thank you in advance.

Worst support. I had a chargeback from a customer that was obviously trying to commit fraud. I had evidence of him acknowledging the amount of the invoice and saying he was going to submit payment and even with all these screenshots, it was ruled in his favor and the money taken from my account. The part where square comes in is that I doubt they did their job to best present this evidence to the customers bank. I'd pull up the dispute in the app and the photo evidence I sent would not even come up. Just blank spaces. Leads me to believe the photos never made it to the customers bank. If you're looking for a company to help you out in the event of a dispute, look elsewhere. I thought it would be self evident that if you send a customer an invoice via email where they have to put their own payment information in, that was more than enough to prove acknowledgment of this payment but apparently not. Furthermore, square is supposed to send any information they have (ex. When a customer pays via invoice) over to the bank and I highly doubt they did even that little bit.

Square Point Of Sale. I have been using Square for over 12 years and still very much happy with it. Square offers services and hardwares that are up to date and easy to use. They really cater to small businesses like myself. Couple of my favorite tool that help me leverage is the online invoice which I use a lot. I send these invoices to my clients and they can securely make payments without any worries or doubt of feeling safe. My other favorite is the Square Loans which are loan offers I get and use without impacting my credit. The best part is repayment comes off each transactions so I don’t have to worry about forgetting to make physical payments. There are many point of sales out there but hands down Square is number one.

Won’t Return Funds/Terrible Customer Service. Awful customer service - first, they shut down my account because one customer disputed several charges. Even though the bank ruled in my favor due to me having a valid contract and emails with ownership and management. Still said my account was being shut down because “it’s in the fine print that they can shut it down at any point, for any reason”. I do web design, nothing sketchy. Now, three months later, the disputes were resolved in my favor, and they still won’t return the money. After ten days, I finally got a response saying, “we hold funds in case any disputes come through”. All of the money has already been disputed, and returned. So unless it can be disputed again (it can’t), there is no risk to Square, to return my funds. Can’t get a response, and whenever I do, they are totally incompetent and display no knowledge of the situation. Because they don’t care. Anyone looking to setup invoices, go with Wave. Amazing customer service so far and a much different experience.

Worst company to use. First of all I started a small business and wanted to make life easier for my wife and myself so I opened a square account for the card reader and all that. When you open your account you give all the normal business info ie tax id business license contact info. My business struggled over the past year, so my wife and I had to support the business with money from our own pocket apparently that’s no ok with square, I’ve had my account frozen I can’t use or transfer my money because square seems to think it’s theirs. I can’t close my account because I still have a +balance with with them however you can’t speak to a human being, they will not take phone calls and any email you send for customer service is ignored. At this point legal action will have to be pursued. Explore other options because square is not reliable yes they are quick to get you going but headaches, hassle and loss of time and money will ensue shortly after you begin using them. Very sad to see something that is supposed to help small businesses hurt them like this.

Why can’t the CUSTOMER pay using a card she SAVED?. My customer gets an invoice each time I pick up her laundry. Each time the invoice is for a different amount because it is based on the weight of her laundry order. Every time she pays she puts a check mark in the box that says Save my card information. But there is no way for HER to use the card to pay the next invoice. I have the option to Bill her card at the time I send the next invoice. What?? Why would I bill someone’s card who has not even seen her invoice yet. Why is there no option when she receives each invoice that says Tap here to Pay with the card I have on file. How insane. I can charge the customer’s card - before she even sees an invoice but she can’t reuse the same card without re-entering the card number, expiration date, and CCV. Why?

Have good banking but do not support the owners. Customer tried to get there money back but on merchandise they purchased by filing fraud. once approached the customer said it was accidental after placing dispute the dispute was won in my favor and money returned but that was not my fault or within my control and now I’m beating faulted for it. Not to say I’ve been loyal for 2 years and I’ve only had one dispute. Also when a customer accidentally file a fraud dispute they tell you it will be three months before it’s settled and they have to wait for a reply from bank. They will try to contact bank in any way until then because it’s not in there protocol. However they will allow you to try and call customer to get a cancellation letter from bank to send to them. In my case the customer bank did not give cancellation letters so I would had to wait three months. This all could have been resolved if someone took there time to call or email the customers bank

Square allows FRAUD charges, your money is NOT protected!. Do NOT open a Square debit card, fraudulent charges are not resolved, no solutions are found and small businesses are left to suffer the damages of the money taken out of your account. Customer service forces you into a circle that goes nowhere, with no answers or solutions found. The fraudulent charges get denied when you dispute them. Square freezes your funds. DO NOT use Square. This has caused irreversible damage to my business, I deeply regret ever using Square. My funds have been held without any support or explanations. I am horrified by my experience, I do not recommend anyone leaves their money with Square. They have RIDICULOUS fees and percentages taken out of your sales, they make their undeserved money but do not protect yours. You are better off using ANY other company. This is good for the consumer but horrible for the merchant. Avoid at all cost. I’m disgusted by my experience and the money I have lost because of Square’s sheer negligence.

Not useable anymore from phone... I use Square for inventory work and just a few months ago it has basically become unusable. The app freezes up after every single action… I have to force close and reopen and it does it every single time I use the app. It’s making my work take longer and just not easy to use anymore due to this. Please fix your app. This is happening to my coworkers too. Also, would love if you could add a Stock Reason for “Inventory Transfer” for when we transfer things out of our inventory to another store. Right now we are having to utilize recounts as our “transfer” and it gets really confusing when looking at stock history and trying to decipher if it was an actual recount or just transferred to another store. Would also appreciate being able to view stock history and vendor name through the app rather than just on the website on a computer. Would make our jobs so much easier.

Coronavirus manually entered CC fees. This app works ok, but we have definitely run into some issues with it since the stay at home restrictions. The manually entered fees are killing all the small businesses. We have to enter credit cards manually or through a square invoice and both fees are so high for us at a time when we are not getting our usual traffic. When I saw it mentioned in the Square Community I asked about it to and they said they wouldn’t lower fees, even temporarily to help the small businesses community that made them who they are. Very disappointed. Then another reason for the 2 stars is because if someone receives a digital gift card or regular gift card they can’t apply it as payment to a Square Invoice! Square, please fix that. I have people gifting gift cards then the customer can’t use them when they place an order. Help the small businesses, lower the manually entered & Square Invoice fees temporarily till the virus passes, even just the 30 cents or 1%, anything is better than nothing!

They steal your money 😡😡😡. This is disgusting, this application should never exist again! I'm starting my construction business 🦺 I was excited to receive my first employee payment transfer of $2,800. I sent all the information they required. They sent me another notification that they needed more documents. I sent them again and they told me they would let me know if they decided. And it turns out that they suspended my account. They did not explain why at any time I called to try to resolve it, but they did not help either. My company is legally registered and the most unpleasant thing is that they charged an amount of $80 dollars for the transaction. They took the charge for the transaction. ! THEY WANT TO DEPOSIT THE MONEY WITHIN 3 TO 4 MONTHS because it is suspended, what kind of stupidity is this? I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY PLAY WITH BUSINESS THAT WAY. I recommend that you look for another option but definitely don't use this application 😡😡😡😡

Favorite Payment Service except .... I love Square and it's products and have used their services for more than five years. I've processed hundreds of thousands of dollars without a single charge back from our guests. We follow all their policies and even pay higher rates for our guests convenience - Guests can pay online and always enjoy their stay more without the usual payment stress on arrival/departure. We just received an unwarranted charge-back from a dramatic old LA actress - their American Express will not pay our non-refundable charge which was accepted and signed for by their cardholder. Square will not cover it or even part of it, because they only protect a single charged amount of less than $250 once a month. This is sooo short-sided. We will no longer accept American Express Cards of course, and we will regrettably have to switch to Stripe for online purchasing.

VERY GOOD TILL THERE NOT. Was very happy till they closed my account with no reason and no1 to talk to so use a normal processor where u can have costumer service like normal people ye just shoot an email and will get back to u when we feel like it or we won’t at all till I squeezed out an answer after months the reason y they closed my account and when I tried to explain I still didn’t get a response so get a normal guy to open ur account and they usually have a contact at that bank where ur processing will be done and if there will b any problems they will sort it out for u but with square they will shut u down at any moment WITHOUT ANY NOTICE and ur Buissnes will be on hold till u find a new processor cause u won’t get any answer from square and even if u do get an answer it will be “sorry we can’t help u even if I wanted to it’s not up to me it’s a different department do so sorry again hope u have a wonderful rest of ur day “ KEEP AWAY DONT GET SUCED IN WITH THERE PRICES U WILL FIND MUCH BETTER PRICING WITH A NORMAL PROCESSOR AND WILL BE CUT TO UR EXACT NEEDS

This company will NOT stand behind merchants. This company has no interest in standing behind the merchants that use their product for point of sale. If a customer disputes a phone order for an item that was delivered to a physical person, square allows that bank of that customer to decide whether to pull those funds back if a customer claims they had no knowledge of the charges. First of all how does the bank of that customer get to decide if they can pull the funds of a purchase that was already delivered to that customer?! What bank is going to rule against their own customer? Second of all, how does square stand by and allow theft of products from the merchants that give them several hundred thousand dollars in sales per year? This is theft and square is standing idly by and allowing banks and cardholders to steal products by approving the charges and allowing the banks to pull those funds back from the store when a customer of that bank disputes the sale!

(NO STARS) PayPal is WAY WAY WAY better.. This thing is one problem and annoyance after the other. Everything is considered “suspicious activity” apparently so MULTIPLE times when I was counting on doing a direct deposit after cleaning a Clients home( I do house cleaning), I would get a message saying that my account was under review that they periodically check accounts to make sure everything is being used right. Well first of all that’s crap bc my account had that message like 4 times within 3 months. I switched to PayPal recently and OMG I wish I had done it sooner and in the first place. So many more options and easier to navigate their app. Also Square’s customer service is huge JOKE. Well actually it’s nonexistent except for the forums where you are asking other users of the apps for help. After charging you’re an arm and a leg out of every transaction you would think they could afford to hire some better/more customer service people. I deleted the app uh permanently and my life got a little better

I’ll pass. Was going to give this a try but after the recent review after the update I will never. Multiple people with the same issue. Account being frozen/deactivated, horrible customer service, customer service ppl hang up on you, no valid reason for deactivations, taking And holding people money for months with no communication, inaccurate fraud alerts, even the responses on the negative reviews were careless and non helpful. All the 5 star reviews was from years ago before the terrible update. Now I see why everyone that was using it before no longer use it now. Use to be a popular way of payment, now I’m surprised it even legally still in business. The only people getting square now is people that don’t read the reviews, thinking it’s the same it was before the update, and people that are unaware of the terrible customer service and your service in general. Do everyone a favor and shut down.

Looking at other options. Having recently had my Apple ID Stolen I was unable to access my Square account. Stolen credit cards were run through a virtual terminal in my business name and my last deposit was sent to a fraudulent bank account set up by the hackers. As if that was bad enough I was unable to reach anyone at Square . Unable to reach them on a weekend was unacceptable then when I finally was able to get through to someone I was told my account would be temporarily closed but that I would get a call from their security department.. I never received a call . To add to things when I didn’t hear I called a second time only to find myself on hold for 1 hour due to the fact that the message to press 1 to leave a call back number so I could keep my place in the queue did not work .. totally frustrated I had to hang up and try again later .. given my circumstances I find the inability to get through to customer service for security fraud a reason I am now looking at other options .

Awful service - do not use. I had the absolute worst experience with square. They have been holding onto 5 grand of my money for over 3 months. They have a letter from my customers bank stating that there is no problem with the transaction and the customer has a custom built play structure in their yard. Square seems to think they can do this to anyone they please. They promised me my money would be deposited into my account today and guess what? They didn’t do it. They also make it impossible to Talk to a representative on the phone and they do everything they can to stop you from talking to anyone except by email which they sometimes respond to. I did everything they asked me to do, and they are determined not to pay me. I know it sounds strange, but thousands of other people have had this same problem, and they use some legal loophole to hurt many small businesses. If u get anything from this review, just don’t use them. Use someone else. I wouldn’t want to see anyone else in the same position I’m in.

Simple. The simplicity of square is what sells me. I have no previous use of any pos system and they seem very scary when purchasing one for he first time. I went to square as it seemed like a simple package deal no extra or hidden costs. Turns out it was the best move I’ve ever made for my business. Setting up the register for he first time was a breeze and adding items to ring up was as basic as it comes even I who’s never use one once before the square was rocking and rolling in minutes of setting it up. I don't do instant deposits so can’t comment on that side of square but I received all my CC transactions on time and never had any issues that weren’t resolved immediately. I also use square payroll that saves me time and fortune compare to Adp! User friendly and simple that’s what makes this work so well.

Worst company ever. I’m mid size company called AB Containers with a fast growing level and provided multiple times to square information about my company to unfreeze funds. This company asked me for business documents and to link my bank account to just turn around and close my account. So they take your personal information. Now they don’t want to do business with us. Who knows now. Maybe they sell my information and my account gets hacked. Who knows in todays world. Now I have to issue my customer a refund and ask him to pay me a different way. You know how embarrassing that is. That you tell that to your customer and looks like your business doesn’t know what they are doing. Don’t trust them or do business with them. I’m going to all media channels and social media followed we have to let every person know. If you are growing your business this company will not help you grow but throw you out when you most need there support through the growth

Can't believe this is a free app but there are some things that need improvement. I do love The square app but there are some things i wish could be updated/improved... such as: If I have a customer's info in my app, I shouldn't have to copy & paste their info in order to send them a receipt. Also the website, I created through Square can be really frustrating. It shows my items visible I've taken off my site to be visible to customers. I put them as not visible because I'm out of stock but they will frequently show as available even though it shows out of stock and it lets the customer still order and pay for it, even though it tells them its out of stock.

Amazing except for one critical thing. I have been using Square for a year and a half. I have had a wonderful experience and thought I had finally found my forever merchant processor. Yesterday I got an email detailing that they were going to start taking HALF MY PROFITS ("25% of my receipts) into reserve and would not make them available for THREE MONTHS! I'm a small residential glass contractor (12 years) and cannot run my business with them hijacking half my profits for 3 months, especially when cash flow is unstable due to cornoavirus. I spoke with them to make sure there were no additional reasons for the holds (disputes, I have none ... or funky receipt data, nope). They said it was just because of Covid and this is what Square is doing for a large portion of accounts they deem a higher risk category (contractors). This should be illegal and I hope an Attorney General starts a class action lawsuit because of it. Please be aware folks. Square is doing some pretty shady things. You could end up waiting for a long time for your money.
