Easy to use. I don’t travel that often by train, but when I do I use this app to get tickets. Easy to use timetable to see options, I use Apple Pay and digital tickets, no problems.

Gives you random dates not from the day. I booked a ticket thinking it was giving me the dates of today and ended up buying a ticket for in 2 days. The refund you get is minimal against the charging fee. The app should allow you to just switch the day easily if there are confusions like this or make you put the date you want to travel first.

Beware! App appears to make false purchases. Have not used this terrible app since before 2020 and all credit cards have now expired. Seeking to reserve train tickets now but never purchased any. Then magically nonrefundable tickets with incorrect date appear as purchases; no idea why. Most outrageous flaw is that Apple Pay now appears as valid form of payment though I never added it and obviously it did not exist when i last used this app. I strongly advise against launching this app until developer corrects these serious bugs. IMO Trainline is dishonest and unethical.

Never buy a train ticket from this app. Bought a OUIGO train ticket from Paris to Marseille. We arrived on time and expected to have a seat. We went looking for our seat and there’s no Carriage 18 on this train. It looks like we got the correct train to Marseille which left the station at the exact time we were supposed to be leaving. The train only has 10 carriages and yet our ticket says Carriage 18. There’s a carriage 8 with our seat number but he showed us a ticket for theirs. So we are now stuck here on this train to Marseille for 3+ hours without a seat at this super hot carriage. Never again!!

Actual Fraud Problem: beware!!! FRAUD. I downloaded this app and tried to buy a ticket but once I had entered my credit card information I was oddly invited to join a movie service. This I declined, but then was contacted by my credit card company about a fraudulent transaction. I had just been charged 5 pounds by the movie service!!! I was unable to buy the train ticket. This is a shocking experience that they need to fix asap!

Easiest way to book. It couldn’t be easier!

Better off somewhere else. Sure booking your trip is easy, but the app shows the train number and not the line number or platform when looking at your journey. On top of that, I purchased what I believed to be first class tickets for my departing and return trip, because I selected first class. When I boarded the train I was informed that I had second class tickets and had to pay €106 to “upgrade” my ticket, which I had wanted to be first class anyways. I recommend the DB navigator app in Germany as it has more information and clear platform and train information. Do NOT book with this app, honestly even the terminal at the station will be better.

Reliable/Cheap/Quick. One stop shop. I have only used this in France for a hand full of journeys but each time was flawless. The tickets were dollars cheaper than on Omio and no more expensive than the first party websites. Simple UI, easy to navigate. Terminal locations for connections quickly uploaded.

Honest review of Trainline. This app is very easy and intuitive… until you actually have to use it. Do not use this app— especially if you are traveling in a foreign country!!! It will screw you sideways and make you think it’s your fault, or that you are crazy. I absolutely never write reviews for anything, but I want to save someone else the trouble. DO NOT USE TRAINLINE TO TRAVEL!!!!

Better to buy the tickets at the station. Used on a trip thru Europe. Useful for searching the train schedules. Buying tickets thru them is a bad idea. App sometimes changes the stations you are searching (for no apparent reason). Once you purchase, you are out of luck- nice gentlemen at customer service empathized with me because ‘no one likes to lose their money’ but the ticket policies are up to the train and Trainline can do nothing even if the tickets were purchased a few seconds ago. At least the app could prompt ‘you are buying tickets to leave in one hour from a station 1000 km from your current location. Are you sure?’ Wrote off those tickets and bought at the station- cheaper base fare, no ‘service’ fee, and the machine defaulted to start the trip at the station where I was. Don’t see any reason to pay extra to buy via the app

Terrible process. The app appears to have a sleek user experience until you need additional support. Tickets take hours to generate. The window of making changes would have passed after the tickets were generated. No contact info anywhere in App. Found chat through website. After going back and forth for 20mins they can’t do anything about seat assignments. Then asked me to contact train station. Doesn’t know contact info for train station either citing they are just a retailer. What’s the point of this App? Maybe good for browsing.

Buggy and unreliable. Used this app for my trip to Austria. 1. It doesn’t give you all the possible routes. I found faster and better routes by manually playing with the different stations. 2. When looking to by a ticket routes kept disappearing 3. When trying to buy a ticket for my son I kept getting a generic error and was about to be late for the train. 4. Booked a ride which turned out to switch to a bus and that had no indication in the app. Would recommend using the trains app which is much better.

A godsend!. I actually forgot my wallet at home in the US and all I had with me for a 6N trip thru London and the UK was my Applewallet. Being able to download the app and buy train tickets right on my phone totally saved me! App was easy to use, schedules were clear—even for a visitor!

Can’t check past tickets.. The app was wonderful until you could no longer check tickets purchased over the website or in the past.

Worked only once. This app worked the first time used it but now I cannot log in or change my password. All that appears is a blank screen after brief flicker. If I try to create a new account, it says that my email already exists. Online chat was of no help.

Refuses all payments. I purchased one set of tickets and went to book for a second trip. No matter which card I use (all with ample funding), the app and the website both refuse payment saying there has been an error. Incredibly frustrating when trying to book a trip.

Christine. I just bought 2 additional tickets for the same journey. my son and his friend missed their connection due to train delay in the Netherlands (on their way to Paris France) I called trainline right away to exchange the tickets for the next available train. I got a voice message saying that due to COVID19 phone calls were not being answered and all question answered online(did not know you could catch COVID19 over the phone). They were stuck in a countryside town, train station was closed and no ways to exchange their tickets for a later train. They bought new tickets and will have to get reimbursement via internet. We will write a review on the process. Otherwise buying ticket is easy!

Great app, until there’s a problem. Ive booked multiple tickets through the app and loved the ease of use. The problem Ive come across is trying to take kids into Belgium from France. The app gives an error message whenever I try to book my kids tickets. I’m sure it is a country related issue where kids might not need tickets to be on the train/bus or something like that. The problem is there is no clear guidance on how to proceed within the app. I’ve contacted customer service. They are good to respond within a day, but through email only and once you reply, it takes another day for a response and as of yet, after three separate communications over a week, I still have no solutions on how to proceed. Even a chat line with a customer service agent would be fantastic but the current form of email only, 24 hr window for response is ponderous at best.

Give me ORARIOTRENI. I use OrarioTreni to check and control the time and status of trains in Italy. It has been bought by train line yet TRAINLINE doesn’t give me the features of OrarioTreni. And on iPhone 15, for some reason I am unable to close the prompt to transfer to TRAINLINE. I’m so annoyed that the one app I used daily (ORARIOTRENI) is no unavailable to me. And train line is not a substitute for me. I’m sitting on a train now, wanting the live status of my train. It doesn’t help me…..

Be aware about this app. Can let you with out your tickets in the middle of your trip. If you the app be careful. I bought my train tickets and in the worse moment in the middle of the trip block my user name. The result: lost of my tickets. Try to get in contact and no answer. So again be careful.

Best app for Europe travel. I’ve been traveling all over Europe this summer and my cousin who lives in Paris told me about Trainline and it’s so easy to find the train you need and pay for it with Apple Pay and the tickets on your phone and everything works! I love it!

Fatal coding error. Here’s a fun trick the app does: say you search for a train ticket for the next day, but you’re conducting a search just before midnight. If, by the time you make your purchase, it’s past midnight, it automatically books the ticket for the following day. So it doesn’t lock in a specific DATE, it uses “tomorrow”. Which is idiotically ambiguous. Then, when you want to reach support; they have no option for that either. So instead I just paid the train company an additional 25 euro to have my ticket changed to the correct day.

AWFUL DO NOT USE. The app threw in random other stops into my search results so I accidentally booked the wrong destination station. Could not exchange my or ticket or change it even though I called within minutes of booking it. Ended up wasting 40 euros for a bad and confusing interface and a company that won’t honor its own exchange policy. Absolutely terrible and unacceptable.

Life saver!. This app is so useful. It makes booking tickets easy. No need to print tickets and it gives me peace of mind timing my trips. My favorite feature is that it shows you which stop is next in real time so no worrying about missing your stop!

Saved my trips many times with easy intercity routes!. Unlike national rail apps, Trainline prefers to suggest intercity routes rather than big brands like TGV or EuroStar, which makes it exceptionally easy to bypass problems on the track. It’s helped me many times to bypass cancellations or construction by approaching the city from a different direction. The best part: the route is provided already, and all the tickets can be bought in just one click. The downside is that this preference for intercity trains with lots of transfers isn’t ideal if you’re trying to save time, if you’re unfamiliar with navigating train stations, or if your train is delayed. If you need direct routes, they can be found on Trainline, but you have to search carefully.

Essential app for taking trains in Europe. Excellent app for taking trains in Europe. Some features could be a bit more refined, like consistently including carriage and seat numbers on train tickets (for DB trains they are in the confirmation email only) it live platform updates, but all around a must for train travel in Europe (EU + UK)

App cost me lots of money. They never acknowledged to the issue.. When I purchased a train ticket, the number on the ticket provide by the app did not match the actual train number that I was to take. Therefore I missed the train. Because it was the last train of the night I had to stay overnight in a hotel. The cost of a taxi to/from the station, hotel and new ticket was significant. I emailed the company yet never received a response. In conclusion, this app is not accurate. It’s not reliable. It’s not responsive and could end up costing you a lot of money.

Excellent. Reliable.. A recent trip to Spain gave us the opportunity to use this App. It is an excellent App. Simple, easy to use. 100% reliable. Much…MUCH better than the Amtrak App in the US.

Slick interface, horrible payment experience. Very easy to navigate and plan. Actually getting payment to work is impossible. Tried 4 different ways. Gave up. Take care of your customers or someone else will. ✌️

Don’t download another train app!. Do not download another train app. This app covers Europe with a user interface that is about as good as Uber.

Easy to book, impossible to cancel. The app works very well for booking train travel, but I attempted to cancel to pre-booked train tickets that were “refundable”, the app malfunctioned in both cases and would not allow me to cancel travel. It referred me to a bad number for customer service, leaving me only email. Since email is only checked every 24 hours, they didn’t honor the requested cancellation. The Trainline contact information does not appear on the website, and the referral number provided by the app was incorrect. As a result, I did not get my refund. when I eventually reached the call center after endless emails, they were of absolutely no help. If I could give zero stars, I would.

Train ticket needs more info. Train ticket I got has no seat number, no carriage number, no class of service, etc. All of that info needs to be clearly on the ticket and it’s not. I had to dig through my e-mail to find that info.

UK nightmare. Trainline does an exceptionally poor job communicating that when taking trains from EU to UK you need to arrive early and go straight to customs. Because of this I missed my train, along with 20 other people. The station had many attendants ready to handle this, because 20 people miss every train because of this poor messaging. I thus missed my connecting train in London and had to buy a new ticket at 600% the price. Trainline customer support was no help. In fact their phone number just went straight to voice mail regardless of how many times I called, forcing me to use their text chat.

Beware: Cancellation Technically Impossible. The promise made in the app is that you have several hours to cancel for a refund after booking. However, cancellation is technically impossible while the ticket is in a status of ‘creating’, which mine was for several hours after my purchase. I needed to cancel and I was unable to do so before the cancellation window expired. I tried to reach out directly for support but there was no chat or call option easily available. If you are going to use buggy software with your business you need a reachable support team. Very disappointed.

Good example of app feature improvement. New railcard feature is fab.

Great until No Support. Buy your tickets direct. Trainline doesn’t live up to its ticket sale contract. Says you can exchange tickets, but app won’t allow it and referee to contact website which asks for your email which tells your to wait. How are you supposed to exchange within an hour when the technology and company won’t allow you to.

Buyer Beware. If you’re not an EU or UK citizen *don’t* use this app. I spent thousands on it in Europe, including $600 tickets for a Thalys train that was cancelled. When you click through the refund on the app, it says you must contact customer service. So I did; Trainline says they’ll talk to Thalys. Thalys says you must apply for the refund through Trainline because that’s where the tickets were purchased; Trainline then sent me an email that Thalys rejected the refund - even though I have screenshots and communications from Thalys telling me I was entitled to it. Making matters worse, Trainline refused to provide any documentation, explanation why it was rejected, communications with Thalys, nothing. All for a refund that Thalys own materials say we’re entitled to. I had to pay hundreds more to complete my trip. I’m now having to spend hours figuring out how to apply for Thalys mediator and bring a claim in the EU, and all because Trainline refuses to provide any information. This would be consumer fraud under US law; but because it’s a British app, you can pay hundreds and receive nothing. Bottom line: buy your train tickets direct from the provider or face the risk of complete loss.

Great app to not use SNCF. Ridgeland tried to use SNCF and It was a nightmare full of errors and bugs The user Experience is great on Trainline. It also allows you to use vouchers and discount cards that you have even if you bought them somewhere else. It’s also super nice to be able to reserve certain seats in advance without having to purchase fully.

App is fantastic but it doesn’t have a map feature. The app was laid out in a user-friendly fashion. However, being that I am new to the area, I do not know exactly where some of the train stations are. If a map function is added, it should be accessed by the “View journey” button in the “My Tickets” tab. You should also be able to access prior to purchasing the ticket to ensure accuracy.

So easy to use. Seriously if there was a points scheme for this app I would be platinum elite. I use this app so much and it’s so easy to use!!! Also, if you need to change, or refund, it’s EAAAASY. it’s my go to train app and it never fails.

Online travel agency during Covid-19. If you want no help and lose your money, use this app. Its convenient when buying your tickets, its a pain when asking for a refund. I live in the USA, and bought train tickets for our trip in Spain. When our trip was cancelled by Renfe(Spanish train operator), I initiated a refund process with Trainline. Trainline responded that I should call Renfe( its a long distance call for me$$$), to get a refund. I was able to finally got hold of a Renfe call-agent after several days of attempting to get in touch with a Renfe agent($$$), and was told that, I should get hold of my travel agent because all tickets during our travel date was cancelled and was refunded back to our pay-source irrespective of ticket type. So, when I communicated again with trainline. Guess what, I was again advised to call Renfe!!#%#%%*+*\\|*%%#%^*$$$@@:;;(##%%%* My 2 cents, cut out the middleman and go directly to the service provider. The service provider all have online footprints now. So when travel plans go awry, you only have to deal directly with the provider. DO NOT USE THIS APP!!!!

Useful in so many countries. I’ve travelled within countries as well as cross-border between Germany, Belgium, UK, and Austria and this worked beautifully everywhere. I love that I can use ApplePay within the app to buy e-tickets including Eurostar and they worked in all the countries where etickets are accepted (UK often requires paper) but between countries as well as within each country without having to look for a ticket kiosk. I only wish it showed which platform the train was departing from but still a must-have app.

WOW!!!!!. First time taking the train within France, then to and around Italy. Wow, what an easy experience with this app! And the best part, our train from Marseille to Nice was delayed, when I reached my location I had an email informing me of a credit due to me because the train was 40mins late! Wow! Very unexpected. They don’t do that in the US so this was a welcomed treat!

This app is amazing. I live in Switzerland and use this for going anywhere outside of the country. It always finds the BEST prices and extremely easy to use. Highly recommend for europe

Hot Garbage. We purchased multiple tickets through their system. Some tickets came through email as an attachment for iwallet which worked GREAT. Other tickets came through as a link to the app. These (1) had different train times in the header than for the body of the ticket and (2) didn't always show up on the app but as a download to print or just not at all. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this system. It’s confusing, inaccurate, and just an all-around frustration for my wife and I. Zero stars.

Rail ticket purchase. Faultless app easy to navigate and full of information… made process so simple

Very convenient app that saves you time!. Used this app for the first time recently on a two week, criss-crossing trip in Italy. Worked very well in finding trains, times, and decent prices without once having to consult ticket booths. Only issue is the live tracker function can be a bit off sometime in terms of the platform numbers and schedules but I would say it was about 90% accurate, which is pretty darn good.

Payment Not Accepted & ZERO Help from Customer Service. After working to purchase train tickets twice, the app suddenly stopped working. It says “oops” every time I try to submit payment - I’ve tried multiple different credit cards, Apple Pay and PayPal and none work. Yet I’ve used those cards in numerous other places with no issue and spoke to the card company and there is no block on my card. I reached out to their support two days ago and the customer service rep sent a generic form of info to fill out, then said he didn’t know what was wrong and was sending it up the chain. ZERO follow up since then. He also said them to purchase over the phone instead. No thanks, I have no interest in giving this company my business. Will purchase at the train station, directly from the train company instead. Avoid this app, it’ll just waste your time and frustrate you. A quick google search shows I’m not the only one with this issue either. Some from years ago yet the company still doesn’t seem to have a solution to their problem!

Don’t trust them!!!. I used this company to purchase tickets from Italy to go to Germany and to return. the Italian train was canceled and this company said you can’t get a refund from us because the trains you had to reschedule in Germany had nothing to do with the trains that I purchased in Italy. so if you have to reschedule tickets because of one company but they’re booking everything separately for you, you will be screwed. and then they refuse to even give you a refund for their service fees, it’s ridiculous. It says you can easily reschedule and Manage the tickets to their app but you cannot. when you go to click on manage or reschedule it says that you have to call their customer service, the number doesn’t work, or you have to email them. by that point your travel plans have already been disrupted you will be forced to purchase additional tickets and you won’t be able to wait for their customer service team to respond to reschedule your tickets. This is just ridiculous. Do not ever use this app and I will never be using this app again I’m gonna use it to find out where the tickets and the trains are but I will never purchase through them again.

Quite disappointing; look elsewhere.. Tried to book tickets for Europe trip. Unfortunately, an immature app, poor infrastructure, and horrendous customer service resulted in a substantial waste of time and money. “We are just the reseller” is what they say to deflect responsibility; actually their business is just reselling, so they should try to do it well. Not the case.

Money gauging app. This app can be really convenient at times but in the 2-3 months we’ve used it, there have been multiple occasions of the app suddenly refusing a ticket as “sold out” only to up the price for the exact same trip. We once went from tickets costing €89 to €129 in less than 5 min. We’re now getting payment issues to get to Dublin, but if we only go to Holyhead the ticket is over €50 more! Also two tickets frequently cost €10-20 more together than buying two single tickets. Just annoying to be gauged for money but still using as it is often more convenient for the international or long distance trains despite the extra charge.

Go to App. Does what it says it will do. Easy to use and keeps everything together. Exactly what I want in an App

Very bad application. I used the app for the first time to book a train ticket from Mulhouse in France to Munich in Germany but it was a complete disappointment . The full ticket price was extracted (taken) from my credit card but I received an instant message that the booking was unsuccessful and a refund will be issued! so far I haven’t received any refund and I am not sure who to contact to get this refund sorted out. Definitely there is an issue with the app and/or the processes of this company.

Easy & convenient. I'm from Australia visiting UK. The is very easy and convenient to use. 👍🏼

Differing prices on app. Was living the app until I checked prices on the Trainline website to find for the exact same train journey, prices were at least £30 more expensive to buy through the app rather than on the website

OK, unless you need a refund. Works really well but if you need a refund from a European train cancellation it doesn’t work very well. Example, if an Italian train is cancelled because of landslides, Trainline send you to the Italian train company to negotiate or even find someone to talk to. No surprise, this leaves you in an absolutely hopeless situation. Reflects poorly on Trainline

Getting around UK. Great app that is easy to use. Clear info and options

Good app. App works exactly as I would have expected with good options. My only criticism is the adverts which are on the app. There was one for something called 'Complete Savings' which I assumed was part of Trainline. I signed up and have since discovered the company are completely dodgy. There even hide in the small print that you are signing up for a monthly fee...

Unacceptable. Processed the payment and then notified me that the app was unable to confirm the ticket and a refund would be processed in 5 days. Taking money prior to confirmation of the booking is bad enough but a 5 day delay in returning my money is not acceptable. Do not use this app.

Works but…. It works for basic operations and easy to use but the canceling and refund is sometimes misleading, it shows you can cancel your ticket and get refund but if the ticket policy is not supporting any refund still shows you can get refund ! But when you cancel you will get 0 refund ! Very funny process so if you made a mistake and cancel your ticket will be lost and with 0 refund very funny and dodgy process.

Timeout connection. Great features; shame the connectivity is usually flawed.

Great app. Works beautifully and the upload expense receipt function is such a great time saver. I recommend to anyone who travels the British rails frequently.

Not user friendly. Not able to purchase multiple journeys in one go so you get hit for double booking fee and double c/card charge - a proper rip-off.

Great app. Straightforward and easy to use, never been on the train in England before and this helped a lot 👌🏽

Old app had better functionality. Where has the Australian dollar option gone? Where has the calendar ics ability gone? There is no invoice receipt option either. Trip history did not carry over. Old app was excellent!!

Very easy. Excellent app. Makes travelling very convenient. An improvement would be to have the carriage and seat number listed on the bar code and ticket.

Unreal app. This was by far the most useful and least frustrating app. Unreal app.

Wrong language. As soon as I downloaded it, it was in a different language. It’s in French and because it’s in French and I don’t read French i can’t figure out how to change it?

Good app. If you are train traveling in the UK this is good for looking up train info & buying tickets. I recommend you also get the apps National Rail and Great Britain Rail Free as they complement this one, each have their strengths.

Pointless app. This is a pointless and unnecessary app designed for the company and not for the customer. Did not work on hates when I first activated my ticket.

Easy to book tickets in advance. Completely satisfied with this app. It's so easy to search for journey times and prices. Will definitely use this app again and recommend to others.

Purchase tickets through web. The app glitches with ticket upload and booking date. I purchased the wrong date thanks to this and their customer services refuses to take responsibility even if you’ve spent heaps!

Will never use this company again. Bought tickets from the website and was only able to access them via the app, which wouldn’t work when I arrived at the station. There was no other way to access my tickets. I also had to take time to create an account, and then log in to this account via the app to see the tickets I’d paid for. Excruciatingly difficult to simply access tickets. The ticket inspector even tried to help but couldn’t get the app to connect. I ended up being forced to buy 3 more tickets at 4x the price on the day of travel.

Take my money & run!!!. Unbelievable! App allows me to book train tickets Munich-Zurich, yet all train services have been suspended for 3 days in Germany. DB has offered flexibility of travel & refund… but NOT this app. Ha! I will delete App immediately… Long distance to travel from Australia to be RIPPED OFF in this way!!

This app makes train bookings so easy. I downloaded this app to assist with my train bookings in the UK, I can’t recommend it enough. The app does all of the hard work for you, checking routes, fares, timetables and even does the seat reservations for you. With so many different rail companies to manage, having them all at your fingertips with this app is invaluable. You don’t need to do anything except put the route into the search engine. There is a small booking fee with each transaction, but is worth it and still cheaper in many cases than other apps and even booking direct. An hour before each journey you get a reminder on your phone telling you if your train is on time or delayed and what platform it leaves from. In most cases your ticket is in the app.. Simply brilliant !!

Can’t buy train tickets. This app simply says “oops something went wrong, please try again later” every single time I try to book a train ticket. It also gives results to stations differing from what was initially searched for. Massive waste of time and energy with the end result being booking at the station the old fashioned way. Scammers. Do not ever buy a ticket through these guys they will scam you they have four if even know customer service whatsoever and if you do by then you’re going to get stuck with their scamm and nobody will be there to help to help you i got scamm for 53 euro

Defective app. While booking sncf tgv ticket in france i asked for solo seat on empty train but app books me an unwanted seat face to face with another passenger. Cancelled my booking.

Easy to use, great functionality. Super easy to use, the app does everything I need it to. I love how easy it is to see all your tickets and access expense receipts, refund tickets, etc.

Convoluted routes and expensive tickets. Check out the national rail app and see how much cheaper and more straightforward your travel can be.

Trainline App. My two sisters and I were visiting the UK from Canada and was told about the app because we would be traveling around the country. It is so easy to use and has been a great tool for us to access. I would highly recommend the app.

Train website. Had a very difficult experience trying to change a ticket previously booked earlier in the day. The website would not accept password that it had previously accepted when booking. I was told to use Forgot Password option, that didn’t work, phone in for help and got a Parkistan call Centre, English heavily accented and difficult. Only option was to re-book tickets and apply for a refund, colossal pain and would not wish it on anyone. Get real you guys.

Charged me twice and didn’t send me the ticket. I booked a bus for today and never received my ticket. They also charged me twice, the ticket shows with an amount of 23 euros, but the charge was of 70 Canadian dollars. I requested a refund and they offer 15 euros. Ridiculous!

De plus, pour un touriste qui ne connait pas les ramifications de la sncf, comment je fais pour choisir entre in InOui, un BlaBlaCar sncf, un truc bidule … Bref, de grosses améliorations à faire je trouve.

Trains on time. Great app... Total lifesaver travelling from Canada and planning rail journeys. Simple to pick up tickets.... Was easier to use than the ticket purchase machines at the station. Some of the train service personnel had difficulty understanding that a ticket had been purchased electronically or how to read the electronic ticket and the turnstiles didn't scan barcode. App is perfect though 😃👍🏻

Wrong departing location provided!!. The search results sometimes include a train station that would be the next closest to the searched location without clarifying that it is not the searched location until you manually check in the details or catch it while purchasing the ticket. This caused us to pay for train tickets from a station that was an hour away from the train station next to our hotel in Rome. We had to buy new tickets and the previous ones were not refundable. VERY ANNOYING... I will try another app to avoid this potential mishap going forward.

Great app and service!. I LOVE Trainline! I can buy tickets anywhere in Europe, pay online, get my tickets in my Apple wallet right away. Also, just recently I had to change some travel arrangements due to the COVID-19 crisis. When it came to air tickets, changing tickets online or getting through to airlines proved impossible. With Trainline however, I was able to cancel and get a refund IMMEDIATELY and rebook for another time. Why can’t the airlines do it that way.

App not user friendly. I tried looking for trains in Greece but the app kept saying “not available” there should be a list of countries before it’s downloaded.

Apple Pay problems. It asks me to set up Apple Pay when I already have a working credit card installed.

What is the point of the app?. I cannot link my railcard to my account. There is no option (at least no visible one) to link an existing railcard. It keeps suggesting that I buy a new one. When buying the tickets, since the card is not linked it prompts me to verify said card at the ticket booth defeating the whole point of having an app. Why is navigating this app so frustrating if the end result remains to see a ticket booth.

Best rail app. I've used a couple of train apps before but this one is definitely the best. So easy to use. Easy to find best trains. Easy to book and pay in seconds. Then add to your calendar and send details to friend. And then either ticket is on phone or pickup at machine at station. There is live info about train on day. It tells you which platform and the times of all stops and any connections. And more!

Extremely disappointed. My baggage was delayed at the airport, which made me miss my coach. There’s a section on the app to change or amend the ticket which Has to be done before the journey and it does not work. It kept saying sorry. Somethings gone wrong. Sorry somethings gone wrong. You could do everything else on the app but you couldn’t do that.(haha reminds me of a song) anyway very annoying and extremely disappointing

Rip off prices. I spent a weekend in England using this app and spent hundreds. Of dollars using the train system. I just got back to England and realized I could have taken all of those trains for pennys on the dollar and maybe spent 100 dollars instead of over 600 by using the tap method at the stations or buying the tickets from the kiosks. Would not recommend this app unless you know what the prices should be and can compare yourself.

Doesn’t give good seats. This is my second review today. First train was a bad seat but at least it faced forward. I requested a single seat in first class facing forward. This time I have the window seat at a table with three strangers in standard class and I’m backwards. Didn’t get even one thing right. I thought the app worked great and was easy to use. I liked that a link to my ticket appeared on my phone this morning. But I’ll delete it and just book direct with the train company next time. Or at least give the opportunity to pick our own seat cause this sucks.

Error. I get an error every time I try to checkout. So annoying, I picked out my train and entered all of my info. I wish it told me at the getting that it wasn’t going to work

Useless. This app is about as much good as their website. First I tried to book a ticket online and have it delivered electronically but this is not an option. The options are delivered by mail or pick up at a ticket machine. After I booked the tickets I find out you can’t pick up your tickets at Heathrow Airport because there’s no ticket machines there! You have to go to the rail station to pick up your tickets and then go to the underground. In frustration I downloaded this app in the hopes of transferring my ticket to my apple wallet. This is not an option. All I wanted was a ticket emailed to me so I wouldn’t have to walk around Heathrow trying to find my tickets after a 12 hour flight.

Invaluable App. As a frequent visitor, I rely on this app to prebook my train travel. I love the ease-of-use, ability to see train durations to help me decide on which train to take and number of stops for each trip. I also really like the ability to use the app for mobile tickets at many stations.

DO NOT USE IN UK!!!!. Trainline is not affiliated with any UK rail organisation, and as such, can charge whatever they like with ridiculous terms & conditions. Booking with Trainline means you can pay 2x normal rate, can’t change your booking and might not have the most up to date schedule. STAY AWAY

Easy and efficient. I used Trainline to book advance purchase first class tickets on Virgin from Kings Cross to Newcastle, and Carlisle to Euston. The mobile tickets were readily available or activated the day prior to travel. One can save 30-60% by booking in advance and during off-peak. Trainline showed the price options and made the rail planning relatively painless. The only challenge would be if you must make last minute changes. That may require a phone call to Trainline. I will be recommending this app to my friends who plan to use train travel in the UK.

USED ONE TIME AND NEVER AGAIN. This app is really easy to use and it works perfect until you find that you need to make a change or modify your reservation. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE PHONE NUMBER. I booked my tickets with Trainline for my trip to Venice and my paid fare INCLUDED A ONE TIME CHANGE FOR THE SAME DAY AT NO CHARGE which I tried to do from within the app with no success and an error message each time I tried, and here is when the nightmare started, first I contacted Trainline via email and had to wait a couple of days for an actual reply…and their solution? Try to do it within the app, I explained about the error -another email another day more for the reply which was that they got an error too and for me to wait closer to my travel date, I contacted Trenitalia which is the transportation company and they couldn’t do it because I had got my ticket thru Trainline, in the meantime it is the day I have to travel and after writing 2 more emails to trainline with NO ANSWER from them, I will have to pay for a new ticket if I want to travel at the time I need to. On top of all this I found out that it would have been cheaper and easier to get the tickets directly with the transportation company. This was the first time I used Trainline because it had good reviews but wont be using them again. I will try to see if there is anyway to get my money back since I went to Trenitalia and they told me that the only ones who could issue a refund for my tickets was Trainline because of the error I got every time I tried to change the scheduled time which was included in the ticket price at no additional charge. I’ve read some reviews here with other people that have had similar problems, so my recommendation is that you book your train tickets either directly thru the original transportation company or if you use a third party then use some company with good customer service which is not the case with Trainline which have a TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT COULD END UP IN COSTING YOU MONEY LIKE IN MY CASE.

Very disappointed. I bought a return ticket London/Edinburgh for my family. My wife and I stood all through the outbound journey - 4 1/2 hrs! Surprised to know that we do not have seat. We reported to the train operator (LNER) on arrival at Edinburgh Waverley. They said it’s Trainline and that they have have lots of similar cases. I called Trainline to report the issue/understand why I do not have seat. Then I heard the biggest shock in my life - “my trip was not confirmed and that I should have called to confirm my reservation”. Reservation.. for a paid and confirmed ticket...? There was the repeat of the usual “marketing script” from the the two Indian officers I spoke to. Unfortunately they ran out of ideas as script was obviously inconsistent with my questions. I find it difficult to believe/accept that one has to call to confirm reservation after having booked, chosen a seat and confirmation received. Summary; buyer beware! A very opportunistic platform with a high probability to cheat! Use them again? Absolute NO!

Post upgrade issue fixed 5 stars again. Updated review the post upgrade issue was resolved so must have been a server issue. Great app, very convenient, I use it all the time. I love the previous versions of this app however after the upgrade my history of tickets and upcoming reservations no longer show up and the app shows an error message 'oops something has gone a bit wrong try again later'

thetrainline. A great app overall, with one annoying glitch: it's awkward to plan ahead from a separate time zone. Asked for trains leaving at 1200 hrs, the program presumes that I mean 1200 at my PLANNING location (U.S. west coast), rather than 1200 at my location of departure (Greater London). The resulting list of trains begins at 2000 London time, exactly corresponding to the eight-hour time zone difference.

£10 admin fee to cancel a £17 train ticket bought in error. you serious?

Sluggish on iPhone 6. This app is convenient for finding dates and tickets, but In the last few months it has become pretty freezy and crashy on iPhone 6. This is a problem when you need times and tickets in a hurry like at a station. It also takes quite some time to load barcode tickets on iPhone 6. Performance is somewhat improved with WiFi turned off.

Useful train timetable app. I found this app to be really useful, it automatically saves your journeys which is great if you want to check your most frequently used trips on a regular basis. I would recommend downloading this app for journeys taken in the UK.

Do not use for Heathrow. If you try to book a bus to Heathrow, the app will take you to London Hillingdon. This is the wrong location.

COLLECTION MACHINES HAVE CARD SKIMMERS. 2 major banks have already confirmed that this has been a known issue across the UK. Trainline people, your service is about more than the app; make sure it’s secure from start to finish!

Data couldn’t be read. I’ve used a few websites and booked trains all over Europe. This app is utterly useless to me. It literally does nothing other than give an error message with no further direction or help. Wasted my time.

Don’t Purchase Tickets Using This App. I bought tickets using Trainline for my wife, my daughter, and myself to travel within the UK. The online, in-app tickets that we were sold did not have any seat numbers. The other passengers on the train all took their seats, which were reserved by their seat numbers, and we were left with nowhere to sit. I can’t believe that we paid for full price tickets and did not get seats. I might use this app to look up train schedules but I will never purchase tickets with it again.

Love it. It gives you info for a specific journey, but even better: then you can ask it to generate a timetable for that trip for a full week. You can save these timetables at home, and then have a full set to refer to when you're in England and want data turned off. Great resource!

Quick and easy. A quick, easy, hassle free way to buy tickets and keep travel times and dates organised. I'm not a regular commuter or business traveler but find myself traveling by train for work or pleasure about twice a month always to different places, making connections, returns from a different station. It easily becomes difficult to keep up with this as it is not just a familiar commuter routine. This app makes everything easy! Would highly recommend.

No seat selection. Put me and my wife in different rows for a cross country trip. Won’t use this again.

Predatory admin fee. When rescheduling a train trip that only costs $2 more than the original ticket they charge a fee that’s 60% of the cost of the previous ticket. Price gouging at a level I only see with Ticketmaster. Very predatory business practice.

Excellent App - But would like a change. I love using this application, and do travel on UK trains without. My only request (if the developers look at comments) would to have the user be prompted to select the ticket collection method rather than default to pickup. If you do not have time to pickup you ticket or cannot you are charge a £10 refund fee.

They are a third party with little empathy for their customers.. TLDR, Buy your tickets directly from the service operators' websites, Renfe, OUIGO, etc. Trainline is a third-party vendor that will leave you on your own if you have any issues with your reservation. ------------------------------ 1st red flag 🚩 -> They do not have, or it is hard to find a chat or phone number for contact. 2nd red flag 🚩 -> Instead of helping you as their customer, if you have a problem with your reservation, they leave you on your own, even when they collect all your data and financial information. 3rd red flag 🚩 -> Trainline seems to don't have a direct resolution channel with their service operators for customer issues. --------------------------- On July 15th, I bought four tickets from Madrid to Barcelona using the Trainline website. (Total 196 EUR) The website crashed a couple of times during the purchase process, and somehow it made two duplicate purchases. Same people, same train, same time to the same destination. (It is important to mention that during the booking process, you must add your unique passaport number per passenger). The only difference was that I was assigned two different reservation numbers. And of course, they charge me twice for the purchase. After noticing it on my credit card, I wrote to their customer support through email (1st red flag 🚩 -> They do not have a chat nor a phone number for contact) They reached back, denying that their system had any issue And that I had added the reservation twice to the shopping cart. To "prove it" They sent me generic pictures of a warning message that their system is supposed to show when something like this happens. I have been working as a Software Engineer for more than 15 years, and I quickly notice two significant flaws in this argument: 1- A warning message for this kind of use case is not enough to guarantee the correct functioning of the system. (The same people cannot travel on the same train to the same destination simultaneously). 2- All user environments are different. Operative Systems, Browsers, and even the network conditions in a given moment can create a lot of different scenarios, so a screenshot of a generic message does not mean that it appeared on my computer during the purchase process. (Until now, they haven't shared with me any servers logs or videos, citing that it is for security purposes) Cause they denied any responsibility, they told me to contact the service operator (OUIGO) to resolve the issue myself. (2nd red flag 🚩 -> Instead of helping you as their customer, they leave you on your own, even when they collect all your data and financial information). After contacting OUIGO, the service operator, they said I had to resolve the issue with Trainline, and Trainline says that it is OUIGO. After several emails and a lot of back and forth, I have ended up in an infinite loop between OUIGO and Trainline when neither of the two companies wants to take responsibility for a system that makes two reservations for the same people, same train, same time to the same destination. (3rd red flag 🚩 -> Trainline seems to don't have a direct resolution channel with their service operators for customer issues). Final thoughts, Having empathy for the customer differentiates excellent from mediocre companies. I'm pretty sure that for Trainline, EUR 196 is nothing, but it represents a lot for my family and me. Until now, our money has been lost cause my family, and I could not travel at the same time to the same place on the same train to the same destination, and nobody seems to care about it.

This app is spot on!. We used the Trainline app to travel across Europe. Not only did it send us notifications for the next leg of the journey, but it also made it easy to look up any information regarding out trip. This is by far the the most useful app I've used.

Refund policy is trash. I used this for multiple tickets in Italy. It was supposed to be 80% refundable but when I tried to change tickets, it said I would receive $0. Do not use it.
