Awesome app, but.... Awesome app once you really start to figure out how to use it. I use it mostly for hunting and it is great for that. But, if you are going to get the paid version get spyglass which is the same app with more functionality like a camera that is cool for pics in the field of features you want to remember and a range finder as well as augmented reality if you need that for anything.

Pilot @ heart. Excellent! Would benefit from having more info downloaded to smartphone so we can follow the trip when no internet access is availabe.

A really cool app.. This is the best advantage I've seen taken of the iPhone accelerometer and gps. Very, very cool. And really useful, once in a while.

Camp guy. Using it to set up private geocache course for summer camp using iPhones. Let u know how it works in a couple of weeks.

Good app, able to use inflight too. I use this app on flights, all you need to do is window seat. Keep the WiFi ON, with aero plane mode ON. It takes few minutes to lock in to the GPS satellite, and gets map data from the flight WIFI.. worked good on my iPhone 6,.. iPhone 7 has some weak GPS receiver, takes few extra minutes to lock in to gps satellites.

Sweeeeet App!!!. This digital compass is very accurate and easy to use; I really like the detail and the data display!

This is a no BS top-notch compass and navigation device!!. ....now if I could only remove the "standard" compass from my 3GS which is now just wasting prime menu space. I've also dumped all of the "Find Your Car" apps I've tried because they are chicken feed compared to this. This app was also very useful when I was away traveling to mark locations not easily described by street addresses (for my conventional car GPS). Apps like these are what makes the 3GS so much more than just a phone.

I needed this at Stead AFB. This is even better than the "Lensatic" compass they had us navigate with during the survival training at Stead AFB. If you added a couple of "clip on" sights it would approach perfection as a navigation instrument. Of course, the iPad is too large to fit in any pocket of a flight suit so you couldn't have it with you after bailing out of your plane.

Please use a shorter name. I know it may seem petty, but abbreviated icon names are a pet peeve. Because the icon name "Commander Compass" is too long, on the home screen, it is automatically abbreviated as "Comma...pass," which looks sloppy. Please use a shorter icon name, at which time I can give the app a higher rating.

Nice compass. Would like to be able to load maps over 3G. When location services is turned off eaco of the compass quadrants is labeled 0 to 45 degrees instead of having the entire compass go from 0 to 360.

Tch.... I dont get it though, why is this the same price as spyglass if spyglass can do the same things and more?

Asst Chief. One should never rely solely on a gps device to navigate the wilderness. However this is a good little app if you calibrate and pay attention.

Commander Compass 3.3.6--get Spyglass instead!. Pretty app, and seems to be stable on a 4S, but I'm giving it only 3 stars for the cheezy rip-off marketing: Better to get Spyglass by the same developer, unless you're stuck as a fighter pilot wanabee. Although CC's screen shots look like your looking through the camera, You're Not (it's pretend night vision green). Spyglass is exactly the same, except more features and more practical: it works like a theodolite, a sighting compass with elevation and GPS coordinates included, and you can take a picture of it. (Wanted features of Spyglass, bought Commander Compass by mistake, then bought Spyglass, which is essentially a major upgrade to CC, for the same price. CC should be the 99 cent lite version.) There's also Theodolite, similar but different, by another developer.

Update Contains Subscription. Updates to a subscription model NOT SHOWN IN THE UPDATE NOTES. BEWARE.

Barely functional. Does not hold azimuth bounces around. When asked to name a coordinate will not pull up keyboard. When I came to app store to review it offered me the lite version which I mistook as an upgrade even though I have the full version, and I bought it. Tired of getting burned by crap apps. But hey at least the lite version will give me a keyboard.

Dumb prompt. The prompts that solicit your review are stupid. I bought this app ... and it is my choice whether or not I want to review it. While I was on a jeep trail and needed to get coordinates, I was interrupted by a request to review the app. Why? Prompts were NOT part of the feature list. At least give the option to NEVER ask again if I don't want to review. Since this isn't an option, here is my review. Other than this developer shoving stuff in your face, it's a great app and something I use frequently.

Can’t change background color after update. Wish I had not updated. Background color is stuck on white and can’t change it. I see the instructions say a single finger vertical swipe changes it but that doesn’t work. I can change the other elements by horizontal or diagonal swipe but the background can’t be changed. This used to be a good solid app but this last update stinks.

Great compass. So much better than the regular compass, just wish it had a nicer icon. Still 5 stars

Clever plug to solicit a review.... App is great in function for why I purchased it but suggesting I need to include a review so that updates continue is a little sketchy. I expect necessary updates and product support for my purchase whether the product generates the desired margin of profit or not. I'm a customer already and I don't appreciate being asked for my endorsement for free in a screen built into the app.

Great Compass. Every aspect of this compass is outstanding. Ease of use. I sometimes set it on my dash and it reminds me of my grandpa's old floating compass in his truck - except with a lot more info. Love the elevation aspect as well. Highly recommended!

Commander........ This app is absolutely fantasfabulous!!! I just drove from Phoenix/Globe area, a 6-7 hour drive, starting off at 9.30 pm and got to Albuquerque at about 4 am, with stops. I had this app on, next to me and it was totally rad, looking at the range finder and looking at how it showed to road and tne details. Just fantastic!! I keep using this app all the time....it's also very entertaining, I love looking at the compass as we drive. And I love the color of it. Deborah Anne

Seems promising!. Nice interface, still figuring out all the settings. Looks like it has a bit of a learning curve to utilize all the features.

Fabulous map app. However still keep a paper map because if you don't have a signal not even compass can help!!

Clear Direction. The compass goes well beyond giving direction...and speed...and altitude...and gps long/lat. It ids celestial bodies and...well I'm still finding other cool new things to do with it. If Magellan had this app he could've fired his crew. All of this for free! This is a huge gift to mankind. Thanks for putting a really great app!

Excellently executed app.. For anyone who is interested, for whatever reason, in maps, topography, orienteering, land/sea/air navigation, etc. this app delivers.

Is this a prank app?. „North“ as shown in the app is about 40 degrees off to where it really is. Calibration does not change anything. This is completely worthless and potentially dangerous if you have to rely on it.

Problems with my iPad case. Due to the magnetic closer on my leather case for the iPad, I have to calibrate every time the app is opened. Even then, I MUST take my iPad out of the case for anything to be close. This isn't really their fault as the iPad is just too sensitive to ANYTHING being close to it. I've opted to use this app ONLY on my iPhone.

Buy Compass Commander. Great product. I use it in my military job and for hunting and find it both extremely useful and accurate.

Nice, But Hard To Use. Beautiful interface and seemingly lots of features. Unfortunately I have no clue how to use this tool. It is hardly intuitive. The associated manual explains nothing other than what the features are --not how to use them. uyer beware, this app ASSUMES you know how to use a military style compass already. I don't so it was a waste of money for me.

Works. Use this app for work it is extremely useful could not be productive with out it !

Milspec GPS!!! Running iPhone 4. I have the overlay set clear with red lettering; looks Fantastic. I really appreciate the GPS tracker and the zooming function. This app has made MiPhone a part of Mi. While exploring on Mi motorcycle I have it fixed to Mi wrist, so I can get a glimpse of all possible back roads. Truly Mi favourite app. All of those that rate this lower than Five Stars: Operator Error! Thanks!

Great for directions. This app makes it so easy to explain to people where things are. Love the satellite view feature with street names and your location and destination(s) clearly marked

This app is awesome, works flawlessly.... Downloaded it on location to mark location and altitude for a neighborhood park, then used it to track all the all the way home. Worked beautifully. Perhaps on the iPad, the numbers at the corners could be a bit bigger though.

Good program. Great package excep it takes forever to adjust to true north. If it wasn't for that I would have given the fifth star

Will not work on iphone 4. First off i used this app alot. But with new update will not work on iphone 4 which is BS. Tried on three differant phones would not work on any of them kept having to restart phone after opening the app. Absolutly dissappionted with new update, if no update in month to fix problem will delete app for good. And I would hate to do that cause i love the app. Want to give this update 0 stars but i won't let me.

Excellent!. For a few bucks, serves as a great back-up GPS just in case. I like that you can still use the GPS function (you won't be able to download maps obviously) even when not in cell phone range.

Commander Compass forever!. I love this app and have used it for many years and am so thankful it is still being updated. I live in the middle of nowhere in Alabama and I use this great app all the time on my property and my relatives’ and friends’ properties. There are no roads in the woods! Anyone who has updated, are you having any problems? I am so pleased with the app and value it so much, I don’t update until someone lets me know the update doesn’t add bugs. Thanks friends!

Good L.E.tool.. The combination of compass and reasonably recent satellite mapping is a great tool for our line of work. Great for coordinating perimeters and getting a quick overhead peep at a location you have to deal with. Also very good for rural work and search and rescue. Very good tool to help make sure you make it home at the end of shift. The only downside is the overlay writing which could better stand out and contrast against the background than it is and makes it a little hard to read sometimes.

Ytsud. This is a fabulous app. The paid version gives you screen adjustment flexibility which I consider worth it, but the free version has all the same basic information.

Used to love it - what happened to elevation display? Deleting it.. All of a sudden, the app no longer shows elevation above sea level. That was an important feature for me, so now it’s not much better than others RFP pass apps I already have. Deleting it.

Great tool.. This is a review of the paid version. I have a couple of compass and Nav apps and this in my favourite. Easy to use and large view display. Hasn't let me down once.

Don't be tricked into buying this app!!!!. It's s shame it is not made more obvious in the App Store that The Commander Compass has hardly any features compared to Spyglass and is 'only maintained in the store to support existing users and to provide free updates.' - more likely to trap people into buying this and then needing to upgrade Spyglass to have the camera feature. Despite the good points I will not be recommending apps from this company to anyone because of this deceptiveness.

It was needed!. Great app, i find it really useful to mark positions out at sea and find then again at night.

Cool app!!. Its a practical/neat app

dishonest but good app.. There is no a trial period attached to this app. You pay to install and if you dont delete it, it will charge you every month. This is dishonest, because there is the mention of thé purchase prise is integraded on application. It Leaves an misinterpretation. To stop the transaction, you delete the app and call credit card to cancel. If you don’t do that. This abuse continues .

Awesome Compass app. This app is awesome. I like the ability to put in your own objects and that it does not have to use Internet to operate. Now I can put in the specs for my satellite tv and easily find it when I set it up on the road in the RV. I find the screen a little hard to read in the sunlight but that is not a problem with the app.

Great compass, but other functions not working. I purchased this app so I could input bearings and locations to track - but the keyboard is inaccessible, making it impossible to type in coordinates. The app is useless to me until fixed.

Great app before. This app worked great before the latest iPhone software update 4.0.2, now doesn't work.

Buy Spyglass Instead. It's a five star product but is the same price as Spyglass which contains more features. The only difference I see between this and the free version is the ability to change the display colors. Save your money and buy Spyglass instead.
