Avoid. Today marks the third time that I’ve needed to use Zipcar for a specific purpose (in this case an appointment) and the app locked me out of the vehicle in the middle of my allotted time. I called, I was on hold for 20-some-odd minutes, I missed my appointment. The customer service representative told me that I could only receive one hour of the amount I paid back but that she would make it two. The app is still not recognizing that I had a scheduled rental. I couldn’t even use the app FOR HOURS to lock and unlock the vehicle. I had to drop it off without closing out my time on the app. Again, if this were the first time I’d likely be more lenient, but I’ve had this experience time and time again with the app. To their credit, the customer service reps are friendly, but I don’t want to spend 20 minutes waiting to have someone in Southeast Asia unlock the vehicle I’ve rented during the time I’m supposed to be able to be driving the vehicle. The app glitches have been sold to me every single time as a fluke, but clearly there’s something wrong here. I’m living careless with my partner. This seemed like a good resource for us. Now we’re feeling cheated of our time and money. Find another car share option in your area.

Erratic app and overall service. Nothing is working properly. From the day I signed up to the time I took my first trip. Signup took days and multiple phone calls. First reservation was crippled by, what I assume to be, a server outage where nothing was working, no website, no app. Then comes the first trip. I was trying to find my car, but trying to unlock/honk it kept saying try again after 5:30pm which was my reservation start time. At the time it was 5:32. The app kept saying try again after 5:30. This is not a service launched last month. You guys are running this for years and it has come to this?? Then the car showed up, apparently the other person was a bit late. But then she was unable to end her trip. She said she is getting an error in the app. Anyways, then I start my trip late and I have no idea if my time is adjusted to the 15min late start. I come back on time, try to end my trip, the app keeps showing an error and a spinning indicator at the same time. Is it working on it or has it failed? No idea. I lock with my card and leave the car. The app still the same in 3-4 tries. I take photos to document my timely arrival, thinking that the erratic app can put me in trouble.

Zipcard Will not activate. Albeit I can log into the main site, verify my account info AND receive follow up emails from my registered email address and oh yes they did accept payment but I am still unable to activate my Zipcard ( which by the way when I received same an activation notice was not noted in the correspondence; I was checking the site as to a pickup question for an upcoming rental when I saw FAQ in re activating your Zipcard. But alas, the activation system stated I was not a registered account holder - As a result Ihad to cancel my proposed rental albeit customer service said it should be ok just to use the app but when pressed agreed not having the card could be an issue especially if my location had no cell service (ie: underground parking garage ) Despite multiple phone calls 6 email exchanges w/ promises we reworking on it I am still unable to activate my Zipcard: note calling customer support for assistance is futile - It’s either I am escalating this to a supervisor and / or “Oh, it usually takes 3-5 days to resolve the issue - I received emails stating issue was resolved ( it wasn’t) which unfortunately presumably has started a new 3-5 day resolution cycle - On a positive note Customer service gave me a $25 credit but it doesn’t do any good if I can’t rent a car

Trouble with Zipcar lately. I have been a Zipcar user for a while now. Essentially, I love the idea of Zipcar and it works for someone like me, young, always traveling, attending different schools, currently working on my doctorate degree, and I’m always in a big city where having a car is too expensive. I’ve just moved to Miami from Chicago. In Chicago Zipcars are everywhere, you will always get one. They whole system seems to run smoothly. Here in Miami, I have had multiple issues. There aren’t enough cars in the area. The cars are really dirty, I have to wipe them down each time and carpets are filled with crumbs and debris. Gas cards are always missing from the cars. Some of the Zipcars aren’t parked in the correct spot so you have to search for them. They experience here just isn’t as fun. I used to get excited about picking out which car I wanted for the day and going shopping, now it’s not so much a joy and I’m actually considering getting and inexpensive car, because I need the reliability of a car more than anything. I hope that as time goes on it gets better but as of right now, Zipcar isn’t my favorite mode of transportation.

Rip off!!! Zipcar should be called RipCar!. After close to 1000 app downloads I can confidently say Zipcar is the biggest scam in the rideshare space. As a matter of fact Zipcar has been the worst app download decision I have ever made. I can’t recall ever writing a review for any app/service but the guys at zipcar are out for every penny they can get off your credit/debit card with their frivolous charges (or fines as they like to call it) I rented a car for 3hrs @ $49 but they charged me an extra $59 for ending the trip 11 mins late…11 figgin’ minutes!!! NO OTHER RENTAL SERVICE DOES THAT! It’s so wrong and the sour experience has cost me way more than the foolish convenience I subscribed for. $59 for 11 mins is pretty steep especially for a first time r user of your service with a life time customer potential. Please you are better off renting from the regular rental companies or Turo…even Uber & lift will serve your purpose better. Zipcar is a rip-off service sugarcoated as a convenient rideshare company. They don’t even care when subscribers ask to cancel. For as long as I live I will make sure everyone I know never use their service. Too bad there’s no option for 0 stars

So wrong!!!!. The car was locked on me while in the gas station, it was 1230 at night when it locked it had my purse and all my belongings in it luckily had my phone but that didn’t matter it said I was not in a open trip and could not find the car I had just been locked out of. I tried calling, texting, emailing everything that I could think of doing I tried to no avail so I had to pay a tow truck to come unlock the car after getting in it would not start being because I was locked out, now I was locked out with nothing not even a jacket or my pepper spray or anything so I called Uber and went home what else should I have done right? Wrong when I returned in the morning the car was no longer there and I am now account suspended because I didn’t return the car to the correct drop off location and I have got not one person that understands what that was like to all of a sudden be locked out and then punished for it, for someone who spends a good deal of money with this car service I am extremely disappointed that this is how I’m being looked at. U got this one so so wrong!!

Car Was Unsafe to Drive. For a cheap rental I expected the car to have some cosmetic issues (scratches/scrapes on the exterior and a torn up floor on the inside with what looked like pretzels smashed into it) but I can’t overlook the unsafe conditions of the vehicle. The window was mucky on the outside and there was no windshield washer fluid in it was hard to see when the sun hit it. The check engine light and the tire pressure light came on. I don’t know how often they service the vehicles but obviously not enough. I rented it from 7-1 for a half marathon I had to be at by 8am. I called them when I got to the parking lot and could safely call at 740am and the guy told me I could bring it back to its original spot and take a different one for the remainder of the trip which time wise was not going to happen. Called again after the race around 11:30 and the woman was saying they could only refund an hour if I were to get it back by 12… I asked to have this issue forwarded to management because while it is one thing for cosmetic issues to be present on a rental it is not good practice to rent out vehicles that are unsafe to drive and could be putting people in danger. As a company it is clear they are putting profits over people. I will not be using zip car again and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Do not waste your time !!!. So I wanna start by saying that my first time booking with Zipcar was a 10/10 I’m not gonna lie, but this is where I dropped the rating down to a 1/10. After having a great day running errands and taking care of some responsibilities i then returned the car ON TIME & with a tank FULL OF GAS. I then get an email the next morning stating that my account was immediately terminated. I was confused because I had no reason and they did not state a reason. So I called and surprisingly I didn’t have to wait that long but then when I explained my problem and wanted to know reason behind the termination I get told they couldn’t release an information regarding my account. I find it weird because why approve my application to then terminate my account the next day. Well then I asked them to file a request to support team which they claimed they would and I would get an email within 3-5 business days okay… 3 weeks later still no email. So I called and was told again that they couldn’t release any information regarding MY ACCOUNT, key word MY ACCOUNT. I just don’t understand why they would give me just a hard time giving a reason they I’m sure they didn’t have to terminate my account. For anyone reading this.. I wouldn’t waste my time

Worst rental company. I was having trouble logging into their crappy website and so I called before I paid their $25 non refundable “application fee” as my father is dying and I need a car ASAP. I explained this and was told a member representative would call me ASAP. I was told I could rent a car today and I was the “highest priority”. No one called. In the meantime I was able to login. I paid the $25 application fee and only after I paid was I told that it would be 3-5 days before I could rent. I immediately called again. I was told there was nothing they would do. I offered to pay to overnight the stupid membership card they require and was told no. I asked for my account to be canceled and my money returned. I was told neither would be done. My account is in limbo, they haven’t done anything on it at all and yet refused to return my money. That’s theft. Obviously with my father dying and wasting hours with their terrible interface I was upset. Their horrible customer service manager decided to lecture me on cursing and provide me with warnings instead of helping me. Please use Turo, GetAround or any of the other companies out there. Zipcar is the absolute worst.

2/3 Successful trips so far. First two trips were seamless. Cars were easy to find, clean, full of gas, etc. The third trip I booked was cancelled without prompt, so I rebooked a new car at the same location. then about 1-2 hours before the start, the car info disappeared and the app stated ‘new car info coming soon.’ This didn’t change until the start of my booking. At which point I called customer service, was on hold 20 minutes waiting to speak to a representative, then they confirmed the car was no longer available and there were no nearby cars of the same size available for use. My need for the car was time sensitive, so I could have been privy to this information sooner to plan accordingly. 30 minutes into a reservation and no in app update regarding my car’s status was inconvenient and stressful. The customer service agent was helpful the best they could and understood my frustration. I was given a refund and an 1 hr driving credit for my trouble.

No total before confirming!. I just went to the app to price out what a few hours of rental would be on Sunday. The price on the main page with multiple cars and locations was different than when I clicked on the specific car. I thought...well, I’m just looking for the total anyway so I can compare it to the cost of renting from Enterprise for the whole day. There was no total, but the “confirm reservation” button at the bottom. I thought there’s no way they’d actually confirm it without showing me a total and figured it had to be on the next screen. So I clicked it...and it booked the car WITHOUT SHOWING ME A TOTAL FIRST!! Come on zipcar, that’s ridiculous. Especially when you showed me two conflicting hourly prices for the same car on different pages. I want to see a total with taxes and everything BEFORE I decide to confirm reservation. The app is good and easy to use...but I gave it 3 stars cuz this is a bad mistake...and common sense says to show the total, people want to know.

Can’t cancel membership.. I downloaded zipcar a few months ago and at the beginning it was aggravating because there wasn’t many cars around my location and when you rented a car you has to park it back where you founded it, which it’s inconvenient but I try to understand. My big issue started when I accidentally forgot an item inside one of the cars that I rented and I’ve been trying to schedule an appointment so I could go check the car for my lost item but they sent me an email saying that Zipcar is no responsible for lost items, I understand, it was my fault, I let it go. But me and my boyfriend bought a car a few days ago so we no longer need the app, I’ve been calling and calling and they never call back nor pick up the phone. They’ve been charging me for the membership but I do not need it anymore. The only way you can cancel a membership is by calling, but they never pick up the phone, not even when I was calling about my missing item. I’ve tried all means possible, Direct message on Instagram, commenting. Nothing. I NEED YOU GUYS TO STOP CHARGING ME FOR THIS MEMBERSHIP THAT I DO NOT NEED ANYMORE, PICK UP THE PHONE AND HAVE BETTER COSTUMER SERVICE. CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP!!!! CLOSE MY ACCOUNT!!! PLEASE.

Half service, half scam. Of the 4 times I’ve booked a car, I’ve only been able to use it twice. The first time, the previous reservation went late and I got no notification about it and no credit to compensate for my ruined trip. The second time, I at least got a notification the day before, letting me know the car needed service. Again my plans were ruined, as the only cars available after my reservation was cancelled were very expensive. A company that treats customer well might have credited me for the difference on rental price so that I could be on my way, but not Zipcar. I finally decided to just buy a car because the service is so unreliable, and I’ve been trying to cancel my membership for 3 days. You can’t do it online (I tried submitting a help desk ticket 2 days ago and they promise they’ll cancel your account within 24 hours, evidently a lie). I’ve spent hours on hold over the course of 3 attempts to call, and am now suspicious that there are literally no representatives who answer phones. Will be looking into places to report these abusive, anti-consumer business practices. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Zipcar.

This company does not care about you. Have had multiple issues with rentals - car not starting, dirty cars, not parked where they’re supposed to be, then not being able to find the car where I parked it despite having parked it exactly where I found it, double-charges to my debit card.....They literally have no way to contact customer service online. The links in their emails to customer service are all broken. The only email address online has a message warning that if your email isn’t about applications it won’t be reviewed. They send out email surveys asking how your ride was but they aren’t actually interested in knowing about or fixing customers’ problems. I called customer service multiple times and all they were able to do is tell me they’d have someone email or call me back. No one ever did. I ended up having to dispute an erroneous charge with my bank. Still no reply despite multiple bad reviews on their surveys that apparently fall into a black hole once completed. I hope a customer service oriented car rental company buys them out and fixes this company because unfortunately, Zipcar owns the market for this type of service where I live.

Cleanliness during COVID. During COVID, like I’m assuming other member have, I have utilized my membership more frequently and am surprise that the Zip car company has not put in place a plan to ensure that the cars are disinfected, clean and in better condition. Because of COVID, when reserving a car, I have made sure to sanitize and wipe down the car before entering the vehicle, as an extra precaution. However, I have had to go beyond just sanitizing and wiping down the car because of the deplorable condition the cars are left in by previous user or the lack of regular maintenance of the vehicle. I’m not sure if the lack of care of the cars I have reserved is only in my neighborhood or others in non- minority neighborhoods are experiencing the same conditions. However, I tend to think that the cars in my neighborhood receive less care or of lesser value than in non- minority neighborhoods because I’ve experienced it first hand. Zip needs to do better, especially during these difficult times which threaten the health and well being of the citizens of the USA

Impossible to get support. Reaching g out through here because I am unable to get support any other way. My zipcar was rear ended in December 2022. No damage to the car but we still exchanged insurance info with the driver and had a police witness on site. All information was shared immediately with zipcar. It’s currently April 10th and my account is still suspended but they are continuing to charge membership dues each month. I have tried to contact the insurance several times for an update. 30 min+ hold times and each time I have connected the call is dropped. I have called zipcar support. They simply say they have no information about how long the claim will take but it can take weeks. I ask them to discontinue my membership they say they cannot while my account is suspended. It has now been 5 months. 5 billing cycles where Zipcar is charging me a membership fee without: 1) access to the service 2) any way to discontinue my membership. Main call center are no help. They claim they can not resolve the issue and flatly refuse to escalate the issue to someone who can. Not sure what options I have except to report the charge to my bank and ask them to block it because at this point zipcar is charging me for a service they refuse to provide. Happy to connect with someone who can help me as customer service is not an option.

Horrible. I’ve had zipcar since they started and the service was pretty good a lot of cars available and no issues until this year 2020, every time I rent a car there’s always an issue Such as not being to enter the car with a zip card which then they will lie and say the car has battery issues this has happened to me about 5+ times, also Cars not being at the location they said they were at or another member doesn’t return the car on time, I’ve been booking cars in advance I booked a car for July 23 at the beginning of July and now they changed my reservation and I have to go to another pickup location which is not convenient for me now I have to pay ubers instead of walking also they did NOT contact me and tell me that my reservation will be changed. Also their customer service is horrible they really don’t care about the situation you’re in all they do is offer driving credit instead and then you have a wasted day that’s was planned, when you call you will wait hours just to speak to someone and a majority of the time the call will fail right when they answer! Horrible I’m canceling my zipcar membership after I use the driving credit.

Gone downhill. Zipcar used to be amazing but the service has really declined. In the last several months, I’ve had multiple issues. I got locked out of my zipcar during the middle of my reservation and they were unable to open or start the car remotely as the car went offline. The next time, the car I reserved was not at its location, the second one I went to was there but not functional, so I was well into my reservation by the time I got to the third car that day. On that one the scanner was hanging off the window so I could not scan in. The cars have also been noticeably dirtier than they used to be. Clearly, there was no extra cleaning due to covid- it seemed even basic cleaning wasn’t happening. I started bringing Lysol wipes with me to clean the car myself. Trying to reach a person in customer service is also a problem. It often takes 10-15 minutes on hold before you get to speak to someone. Overall, using zipcar used to be a great experience. Now, you never know what kind of experience it will be. I can’t trust that the car I have reserved will be ready & functionally. So if I have an time sensitive errand, I now go to find the car early to at least make sure it’s there. It’s really disappointing.

Unreliable! Car gets cancelled EVERY TIME. I have used zipcar for almost 10 years and sadly it is coming to an end. Since last July, I had 5 trips for booked for a minivan for weekend getaways with family. Every reservation I made had been either canceled or changed to a different car that doesn’t sit all of us or a location that’s too far to get to. Last 4th of July, my minivan was canceled 2 hours before pickup time. I don’t have the heart to tell my children who’s been home for months under quarantine. I forked out $1000 for last minute car rental. We spent a lovely weekend in CT but our nightmare has just started. August trip, again, changed to a small car. Cancellation/changes were made to my reservation October, January, February, March! We have a reservation for this Friday (today ) and our minivan was canceled on Monday. I spent again an hour on the phone and got another van in a far location. This second car was canceled again on Thursday.... I guess my relationship with zipcar has finally come to an end, like a long and painful breakup with someone when you are young. Always there is one more time and this time maybe it will work out. But it is not and it never will. We all have enough to worry about in our life and no one should be worried about car rental getting canceled every time. And if I keep using the same service, I must be crazy.

Gas card declined so I had to report my own gas charge $25. Late start- bc Gas card was not working even at cashier -she said declined. So late start bc on the phone waiting for customer service - phone call ended at 10:40pm , even though I arrived at gas station at 10:10 it was suppose to be a 10am start of trip originally picking up car at 10:03am..... frustrated. Ended up using my own money $25. I would like a refund. Car would not unlock for 30 minutes - in middle of my trip, even through app sensor was dis functional :(((( and customer service rep tried to unlock it for me through guided steps over phone. I still need a refund for last week’s last minute cancellation from zip car, at the start of my scheduled time an email was sent that it was unavailable @ the exact start time of my trip , when I attempted to pick up the reserved car. Customer service says my refund will happen at the 3-5 business day mark. But I don’t see any hard copy validation for my credit $35 from last weeks cancellation, so I am guessing it should apply for today’s trip, but the zip car app should say that??? It doesn’t indicate my credit for let week, nor my refund for today’s trouble with the non working gas card??? Please confirm my concerns and refunds.

They’ll leave you STRANDED & with many trips cancelled. Let’s get the worst out of the way: My car was stuck in wet leaves to no fault of my own on the side of a highway in the middle of the night. I called Zipcar and after waiting ten minutes for an agent, he was extremely rude and droned on for an hour, clearly not listening to the fact that I stated I was on a highway when addressing him initially. After him getting my location info (literally 45 min after picking up) he tells me I have to call the cops, not roadside assistance being on the side of the highway. They have no respect for your time or your money. Out of the about 15 times I’ve booked a Zipcar, 7 had to be cancelled due to issues with the car. The zip cars near me consistently have issues (ie. low tire pressure, unlock does not work) and I am reimbursed, and sometimes they offer me 9 bucks of credit after spending my time on their cars. A few times I have booked a car and the person simply does not return it, and I have been stuck waiting for an agent to pick up, just to cancel the trip with no substitute for my travel needs. I have had a couple smooth trips in the midst of it, hence any star at all but when I say a couple that’s what I mean. Additionally, the rates in New York City are ridiculously pricey, to the point it is not worth it unless you have 70$ sitting around for a 3 hour shopping trip.

Terrible experience start to finish. To begin, when I was applying, they pulled the wrong driving record and denied my request. I have had no accidents or tickets since getting my license, yet was denied for a bad driving record. I fought with them on it for a few weeks, and finally got it straightened out because I don’t have any other options for rentals being under 21. The FIRST TIME I reserved a car, they gave me access to the wrong vehicle, and only informed me because I made it an hour down the road and the car wouldn’t start again. They then told me the car I had picked up was reserved for someone else later that day, so I had to return it. To do this, they moved my reservation from my original vehicle to this one. Drive an hour back, just to find out they had rented my first vehicle to someone else. They then tried to charge me for a second reservation for a truck (which I have never driven) 5 miles down the road. I told them to save it, I’ll just be taking the train next time. Customer service is abysmal, and I seriously dissuade anyone from using this service if they don’t want to deal with Comcast level bulls**t.

No cars available. I love zip car but the last three times my experiences have been the worse. I booked a card a few weeks ago and when I went to pick up the car the car wasn’t available due to a malfunction. I wish someone would reach out to us in an event like this. I wasted my time and arrived late at the event I was going to. Yesterday I booked a car for the whole day, when I arrived at the pick up location the vehicle wasn’t available yet again due to an engine malfunction. This time there weren’t any vehicles available in any of the locations near me so I had to cancel my plans. Today, I booked another car for a few hours and again when I arrived at the pick up location the car wasn’t even there. They changed my car to a different one at the same location and when I get the second car the gas card is missing. I had to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed for gas. I’m so fed up and all they can do is give me a $30 credit. This is so not fair that this happened 3 times in a row. The least you can do is call us if we happen to book a car who all of a sudden isn’t available for whatever reason!

Horrible! Horrible service!!. Never in my life have I seen a company so disinterested in there customers. I spent more than 10 Hs on the phone trying to get my zipcard shipped to the correct address, not only did they not ship it to the correct address but also on 8 different occasions told me they had te sent it and only did so once!! I kept calling and they would keep telling me they would ship it again only to find out on my next call that the card was never sent. I paid my subscription in advance and after 4 months of trying again and again I decided to cancel the account, but it turns out I can’t get my money back. Total ripoff!!! Be careful think it twice there is many people that have been overcharged or had trouble using this poorly offered service. Everyone I know that signed up could never get their money back they offer you credit that you rarely get to use because it expires I had in my account over 100, 10 or so for every call I did. I would not recommended this at all. I couldn’t even get my zipcard to start using the service, I don't even want to imagine the sort of trouble I would have if I began using it. Save yourself many hours and headaches. Good idea poorly executed.

Horrible experience from start to finish. Where do I begin, well my first ever time booking a vehicle with zip car since hearing good things about them. That went completely out the window when the first car I went to pick up was not at its home location because another renter did not return the vehicle. From there they were able to put my into another vehicle ( which I used my funds to transport to another vehicle in a Lyft). From that vehicle there was also another issue ! This car was missing a key and was unable to continue on a trip. Desperate to get to my chemo appointment, I took the associate recommendation to try another vehicle in the area. I got the vehicle and parked it and it never started back up again ! Malfunction warning and the car completely shut off! I called customer service over and over again and requested managers assistance which was no help at ALL! They told me I would not be eligible for my own money back because the car was still on a trip and I can only get partial if that’s possible me after the escalated it ! This has been a horrible horrible experience and I will not recommend anyone ever ever, book with this complaint for anything at all.

Vehicle Not At Home Location. Walked to the home location of the car and found it was not there, which all too often a the case. Called and they found me a car and compensated me. I appreciated that effort, but more than anything I want to know the alternative location of the car before I get to the home location and find it’s not there. Then I have to call, which is not always quick or fruitful, as they may not have other cars available. The car was left at a location 15 blocks from the home location. You can’t tell me they couldn’t find a legal parking spot at 1pm that wasn’t closer. Clearly they didn’t want to park the car at the home location or even close, because it was inconvenient to do so. This happens all too often. Zipcar needs to find a system fix for this, since members are not following the rules. But also need to work with local government to ensure private vehicles are not parked in Zipcar locations without consequence. The replacement car had pet hair all over the back seat, but thankfully I didn’t need to use the back seat. The use of the car was smooth and easy once I get in the replacement

Worst Experience. I rented a car for 3 days. It broke down within an hour drive. They got it towed and send us back to the city on an uber to pick up a different car, but there was not an available car. I call back and finally got a 3rd car and drive to my destiny upstate. Next morning I receive a text saying that the car has to be delivered that same morning when I requested it for 3 days. Now I’m upstate with a car that should be in the city. That was a Saturday spent calling back and forth until finally we got the car extended to how we initially intended. This only lasted 1hr when a second towing service came and took the car from us, for the second time, even tho it was activated on my Zipcar account legally and I could access the car with my card, but the fleet coordinator from Zipcar Malitza Veloz had already ordered to tow it. Now I’m stucked upstate on a Sunday in COVID times with no way back home. NONE of this was a mistake from us and this company couldn’t care less.

Worst Costumer Service. Several times have I made my reservation and paid only to show up and find out my reservation can’t be fulfilled. You call the "24/7" line and wait 10-15mins only to be told, and i quote; "Oh, that Zipcar was reported with having a dead battery." Or “We don’t know where the car is.” Why advertise a car as being available knowing very well the car battery is dead or that the company itself doesn’t know WHERE THE CAR IS? Can’t this company text/email/call me if there is a problem with a service I’m paying for? They don’t bother taking out the cars from the available list to an unavailable roster, they make YOU find out. After all that, I can’t get a simple call Informing me and other customers that my reservation for that day can’t be fulfilled? This service doesn’t award it’s costumers, no “loyalty points” and you are expected to fill the gas(free), make sure car is clean for next driver, and don’t forget you are driving a car with an advertising sticker, not really “cool” to the young crowd. This service is suppose to be reliable, fast and cheap but it’s everything but....they just say they are sorry, refund your money and hang up, you waste your time, can’t make your appointments and are stuck trying to figure out what to do next.

Many Disappointing Experiences. Where to begin… My most recent trip was in a vehicle with a front slashed tire and two rear bald tires. Last year in May, a car with a damaged battery died in my parents driveway and had to be towed away (Happy Mother’s Day Mom). The person who responded deemed the battery to have been tampered with. In the intervening months, I have driven cars that reeked of marajuana smoke, cigarette smoke and littered with trash. I rented a nice SUV to go to a friends wedding a year prior and it smelled like pot and the back seat was coated with a Vaseline or jelly-like substance. Gross. Many times vehicles have been low on fuel (given the other huge problems I have started to overlook this). The worst part is that when there is a problem, you are put on hold for a ridiculously long time and eventually connected with a person with an accent so thick, he or she is often unintelligible. I am often told that I will receive “credits” for these inconveniences but they never appear on my account. Purchasing a car is out of my budget, but my experience has been so bad with Zipcar that I am considering it. I would rather spend more money and know that I am driving a safe vehicle and not be (greatly) inconvenienced. Zipcar has become an awful experience.

Customer service is criminal. We discovered that the car we reserved had a flat tire so we returned it to the curb. My boyfriend called customer service. They asked to speak to me but I wasn’t there. My boyfriend explained that it was more than 100F in Portland and I’m a breast cancer patient. We really needed to get this resolved. Customer service rep said it was no problem, they’d refund after they talked to me and that he’d put a note on the file. Meanwhile, we went to look at another nearby car that was showing on the app. We didn’t want to reserve it until we saw and I’m glad we didn’t. It was filthy, inside and out. We got an Uber instead. When we returned from Portland, I called customer service and they said they’d have to investigate before giving me my $111 refund! They said it would be at least 5 days before they could get back to me. This was an issue with their car and they should refund immediately. That’s what any company with customer care and common sense would do. Nope. Haven’t heard back. Going to tell my credit card company to dispute the charge. This was our very first time reserving a Zipcar and it will definitely be our last.

Worst Customer Service ON THE WEB. I have driven with Zipcar for years at this point. Both in Ann Arbor, MI and in Tallahassee, FL were my experiences just as terrible. When calling customer service, they will only restate policies to you instead of actually solving your issues. In particular, Caesar, the head of customer service, has no one above him to help you solve your issue. So, he simply just keeps repeating himself to you. His inferiors, such as Xavier, barely understand how the company works, misread information to you, and will try to overcharge you. Additionally, their gas cards almost NEVER work or get stolen. You must then pay for the gas and Zipcar will "reimburse" you. Except, they might not. And even so, they'll charge you if you return the car with low gas, EVEN IF YOU REPORT THE CARD MISSING DAYS PRIOR and THEYVE STILL NOT REPLACED IT! I highly recommend using another app. The customer accusatory tone of the "face" of this companies customer service is demeaning and is only there for the company to try to charge you more money. I hope Zipcar improves its customer service and gas card issues. If not, I will be leaving the company soon. It's not worth your peace of mind, time, money, patience, or respect (as they certainly won't respect you). Shame. :/

It got worse and worse. I have been using it for the last 3-4 years. It started really good with nice cars, affordable prices and got worse after that. Cars quality got worse in general for the last 5-6 rentals it almost always smelled like someone is smoking next to you and not just cigarette! One of the worse things keeps consistently happening last years is missing cars! I booked my car and went to the location!(it’s winter time in NYC) and there is no car, called the number and they said oh this car is in the airport right now and we will cancel the reservation. Naturally I asked for an other car and also stated I am willing to travel far bc I have a young child and we planned for this trip! and she literally said there is no car available in the ny city area for me. I checked the app it still showed 4 different available car for me but the operator on the phone checked each of them from her system and none of them were “really available “. At the end of the conversation they canceled my ride(at least that’s what I thought)and I ended up using uber back and forth to New Jersey from Brooklyn! When I came back home I received an email “summarizing my trip attached with the vill” for the car I never drove and saw!!!! By the way don’t even try to talk the supervisors they are not available. This was not the first time this happened but it is the last time never ever gonna use them again!!!

Used to be great, now it’s a disaster. Here is a typical rental with zipcar these days (this happened today and it’s not the first time): They switched the car on me 3 times before my reservation even started. Each time the car they provided was farther away from my home. The app gave me the third car location and provided the wrong address. I spent 30 minutes trying to find it only to be told it wasn’t where it was supposed to be. The zipcar system said it was in a garage, the garage said it was there. Then I spent 30 minutes having one of your representatives find me a new car. She found me one, I got in an Uber to get to it and and then called me and told me it actually wasn’t available. She found me another one that was a 25 minute ride away. I had to take my third uber of the day. Then I arrived at that location only to find my zip card would not unlock the car. She couldn’t unlock it from her end. That’s when I called one last time only to be told there was nothing they could do about it and there were no other options. I had to take an Uber to my original destination, it ended up being a $185 round trip. Zipcar says they’ll reimburse me but only for the cost of the difference of the original trip. Unbelievable.

A Great Option Even If You Own A Car. I’ve been a Zipcar member since January 2008. You can rent cars located in or near your neighborhood by the hour. You reserve cars at the website by day, date, and time, based on availability. I’ve made reservations just minutes in advance, and currently also have reservations as far ahead as several months. The only limit is if and when someone else has booked the car you want, but you usually have alternative cars available nearby. Even if you own a car, it makes sense to be a member and have a Zipcard in your wallet, for when your car is in the shop or you’re traveling to other cities and want the convenience of a car when you get there. The billing is similar to Lyft or Uber, and the app works as well as the website and is very intuitive and instantaneous. It’s a great option, one I use at least a couple times a week, and I haven’t owned a car since 1992.

I worked parking zip cars.. As I write this I have full knowledge of how zipcar operates. I retrieved vehicles for them and know the following They do not hire quality mechanics to maintain their cars. The mechanics are all failed Lincoln Tech or mechanics no one wants to hire. They work on 1099 contracts and have shoddy equipment they drive and keep in their van to go to repair jobs to service mechanical issues. I’ve watched them work in the parking lots they house them in. The cleaners are all from the Bronx usually Dominican Republic immigrants and aside from throwing and leaving their filthy trash in garages after a job they stay in the car while hanging out avoiding work. They also work on 1099 contracts because it’s cost effective and is profitable model but the cars still smell like used diapers from the lower income customers driving with babies and not having a car. I treat every car like I worked on an ambulance. Don’t trust it just because it smells like febreeze. They hardly wipe down frequently touched areas and use the lowest quality cleaning equipment and reuse dirty napkins on surfaces. But no one will ever know hahahah And the CSR responding to this is just the guy in the Philippines. They will make you repeat this to another agent to get a full statement instead of taking this to fix it. The old days of just a comment box drop are over. This review is more for customers to avoid using zip

Stranded with Courtesy. Interesting experience today - the car I was using wouldn’t start in an under ground garage at local mall because there wasn’t a satellite connection. Received suggestions like get someone to help you push it closer to entrance/exit to make connectivity (I’m a small woman - in NY, in Brooklyn, really,?) also, if you pay for help get a receipt...huh? Gee sir thank u for going out of your way, can I give you a few dollars and oh btw I’ll need a receipt even though it’s not my car and I’ve been waiting for over an hour for a call on a tow truck - smh/really deep sigh. The best offer - we’ll credit you and extend your time. Hmmm, credit (not refund) for a car I’m not able to use, extend my time while i stay with unusable vehicle waiting for a tow truck that never came? This was suppose to be a quick dash to the supermarket and Home Depot..2 hours maybe 2.5, not shopping, picking up specific items - in and out, waiting on line would be most of time. And yet everyone at Zip was friendly courteous and unconcerned about me being stranded/inconvenienced if ya know what I mean. Anyway, I finally got vehicle started - and out of the garage with a $5.00 parking charge (usually cost $2-3) not that big a deal/difference just annoying. Guess it’s time to consider getting a vehicle kinda miss having my own.

THEY WILL LEAVE YOU STRANDED WITH NO HELP. My daughter used this service for a trip to a national park and the car lost connection and stopped working in the mountains in the middle of nowhere. She called ZipCar looking for assistance, and they told her they could not find roadside assistance and that she was on her own. They left her and her friend stranded in the mountains at night by themselves. They lied about not being able to find roadside assistance because the park ranger that found my daughter was able to call a tow that she paid for out of pocket and is still waiting on reimbursement. after the tow, they left her stranded again until 3am in a random parking lot in a strange town locked out of the car. They started ignoring my daughter’s calls. My wife and I were calling from midnight to 7am across the country begging for them to help her. Customer service kept promising us they would call my daughter and they never did. This was a parents worst nightmare and we were deathly afraid for my daughters safety. I don’t recommend using this service that does not care about its customers safety and would willingly leave its customers stranded and alone at night

Avoiding responsibilities. Was a member of zipcar community for about 2 years but cancelled this morning. Customer service has gone downhill and the supervisors do not car. A ticket violation was issued to a vehicle that I had under my name during a commuter plan bill cycle. Problem? The violation was issued in East Hampton NY, and the vehicle in question was not even the right color, or model yet Zipcar paid the fine only because the plates were the same but did not bother to confirm the state in which the plates were issued. They them charge me for the violation because they failed to notify whoever had the vehicle. After getting off the phone with the courthouse they requested me to retrieve all the information for my vehicle so the ticket could be dismissed. Problem? Zipcar avoids, beats around or pretends to write the information but does not comply with giving the information. They ignored my emails, supervisors dont care, and I have requested in writing what is needed and they continue to ignore it. After reporting to customer service many times over the phone and email, again no answers. This just proves again, that this is a company going downhill with customer service and officially terminated and cut all ties with Zipcar. I would rather go to Enterprise car share over this nonsense. I DO NOT recommend this service, I DO NOT recommend this company moving forward. Save your money.

It’s hit or miss. Ok so in theory this idea a great and it actually is great much of the time. But the main problems I have found are the cars are dirty and no I’m good condition, people leave strange stuff in them, one time there was a reason that seemed it was stolen from another car in the backseat, the garages where they are kept don’t take any type of ownership or responsibility, so I’m wondering who does and how often someone has eyes on these cars from the company! Much of the time the cars have maintaince lights on, are filthy and don’t seem to be attended to well. Also, it is beyond expensive for the convenience which is what you really pay for. For example to rent an SUV for a day it’s around $160 minimum, plus a monthly membership fee. But on the flip side it’s super convenient to be able to rent a car by the hour and find them last minute. So although I’m still currently a customer and find it useful, there is much that could be improved upon especially for the price paid.

Started off great but that was short lived. I used app off and on over a 5 or 6 month period a few times I had to pay some over charges due to one thing or another but this last time I was 2 min late returning to the location (after attempting to extend it and the system would not allow) it was a $68 late fee when it was $13 per hour for the car , I spoke with one customer service person a few days later who said she was more then happy to take care of it and wave the fee and a week later I went to rent a car but again the fee was still there attempted to contact someone 3 days in a row and sent multiple emails that finally received a response 2 weeks later and basically I’m outta luck and the required payment. Didn’t matter that I was told differently by the first person there is no grace period on the check in. Plus the fact that it took me a month to finally make contact with a person and 2.5 weeks for anyone to return my email I’m over it and would rather walk then deal with this.

Almost certainly a scam. I began using Zipcar during the pandemic because my preferred ride share service was not able to stay afloat. And boy howdy has it been an awful transition. From damages reported to the same car, multiple times over, with worsening safety and driving conditions. These were reported over the summer and the cars have not yet been fixed (in March! MARCH.). The app does not work and has had me locked out for weeks, my only option to “fix” this is to send a photo of my drivers license and a selfie to a non-secure email address, which you’d think given all of the double authentication and account verification needed to literally do anything, would be explained in some sort of way, yet no explanation is given. I have never received the promised Zipcard, their pages and pages of support offer NO real answers or directions to help you fix your problems and it is IMPOSSIBLE to actually get on the phone with their support team, even though their number is plastered everywhere. Every single penny I have given this company has been an absolute waste of my money and my time. If you have ANY other options at your disposal I highly encourage you to save your hard earned money, your time, and your mental health by avoiding Zipcar entirely - 1 star is absolutely too generous for the complete lack of a service Zipcar provides.

DISGUSTING COMPANY OF SCAMMERS. never in my life has a company made me so mad on so many occasions. It’s as if they try to provide the WORST POSSIBLE customer service experience. All they want is to take your money and run. I booked a car to go to the airport and when I arrived to the car the previous driver said it was really broken and Not driveable which is not surprising since all the cars I’ve ever taken from them have maintenance issues. The previous person said he was in the phone with them and they said they would get the next person (me) sorted but they NEVER CALLED ME never canceled the ride or nothing. I had to be on the hold with them for 30 min before I reached someone WHILE I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AT THE AIRPORT! Then they finally said they would reimburse me for an Uber so I took one and it was 45$ , they said I just needed to send them the receipt. 4 MONTHS LATER NO REFUND. I had to hound them for weeks to get the refund and when I finally got the check it was for 21$ THAT IS NOT EVEN THE PRICE OF THE ORIGINAL ZIPCAR I BOOKED WHICH THEY ALSO NEVER REFUNDED ME FOR. SO THEY SCAMMED ME OUT OF 27$ then 45$ THEN DIDN’T REPLY FOR MONTHS AND FINALLY THEY SENT ME LESS THAN 1/3 of what the owed me. I have warned everyone I know against this company and I will continue to do so. They are scammers and I hope the next person reading this takes note before they get scammed too.

Just wait in the car even though it’s not your fault that car isn’t moving. Had an extremely poor customer experience. I would advise everyone to double click on what they mean by seamless support with roadside issues and not needing to pay for any problems with the vehicle. So my story is that the car wouldn’t start, battery was dead. I called support to fix this. Took close to 1.5h just to figure out the ETA for the help. All the while, I am just sitting in the car wasting time. I was told that if I left the car for them to figure this out, the car would be towed at my expense + I would be charged abandoning fee even though it’s not my fault that the car isn’t working. So I had to wait for a total of 3 hours in a battery dead car on a weekday counting my fingers again / again. Needless to say it was a disastrous day at work. Their late return policy is another thing to double click on. Although I understand the fees are in place to ensure people are not always late, how about returning some of that back when I return the car early. That seems fair especially when the late fees are in excess of a 100$ for an hour. Might as well make sense to go to a traditional car rental company if you have to go through this kind of support.

Zero Stars. If I could give this experience and the past few experiences my family has had a Zero Star rating I would. When I arrived at the designated spot to pick up our car it was not there. After a lengthy call with a customer service representative the car was located far away from it’s spot. Once I got in the car it smelled like marijuana and had dirty Chinese food in it. After losing the time to locate the car and having the overall condition of the car being pretty lousy the customer service representative offered 15 minutes of driving time, and for me to go wash the car and reimburse the costs, and to put us in a new car that wasn’t even available. So, for the next day and a half my family (my six-year-old son and his grandmother) were stuck with a car that smelled like a drug den. How does 15 minutes of credit provide any type of solution that zipcar might consider satisfactory for a customer? Zipcar comes at a premium cost and delivers a subpar experience. Customer service offered nothing to actually make this worthwhile. I think that my family and I are at a point where we need to look for another company(Uber). This won’t matter to zipcar, because we’re not power users, and you don’t really care about the overall customer experience. This complaint and probably all other complaints will fall on deaf ears and I’m not even sure why I’m writing this review.

Terrible customer service. First using this rental app is was great and convenient though that didn’t last long once I lost my phone along with my cards and email, when I revisited the app I was met with a red flag restriction that prevented me from renting out with them anymore, with an app as highly recommended as this one you’d expect their customer service to be as dependable but that’s far from the case as they shown on numerous occasion their incompetence in identifying and resolving issues were baffling. I figured the lock was due to their membership fee which I had mentioned to them each call that I couldn’t see the charges because I no longer had the card nor access to my email so they concluded that because of that minor innocent mistake I’ll remain banned from using their services and that it was irreversible which is outrageous because they are the experts who run their app???. Not only i initially reached out to fix this on October 4th only to get this response October 18th which was mainly because I kept calling and reaching out because it was like I was being ignored the entire time and now the case is oh we can’t help you for the exact same reason I had mentioned. It was a very disappointing and discriminatory experience I wish on no one very unprofessional stuff like that could easily get voided to say it irreversible is nothing short of lazy and deceit

Please change this. I would love to give this app 5 stars i enjoy my ride whenever i use. However, this parking garage just makes it a headache. Its a garage thats blocks off reception so now ur mobile key is as useful as a brick. Meaning if ur not using it to break the windows ur not getting in. This is the second time ive had to sit on hold outside the car for 30 minutes or more to get someone. This last time i waited 40 minutes on hold just for them to drop my call or hang up 5 seconds into him answering. He asked for my name and that was it. Now im on hold again sitting outside the car currently waiting to get in ***Update*** Do not get this app. ii never hot that firat problem resolved so ii ended up canceling my account. About a month ago ii saw a random charge for tolls of about 50 bucks despite the fact that it had been months sense my last rental. I figured it was a delayed charge and let it go. Same thing happened this month. Then im getting emails about owing a balance even tho my last ride was paid in full in the beginning of august. It will keep ripping from whatever account it’s connected to. Im trying to get rid of this app for good and cant

Once upon a time.. This was a great company years ago. I’m assuming it was sold off to some greedy bank that has turned this service into a money trap for the poor customers that rely on its convent locations and auto variety. God forbid you need support they must get paid based on how many fees they can add on to your rental because the responsibility is always with the customer even when the car needs service or the app won’t work to unlock your car. Somehow they find a way to charge you extra and thank you for using their service. Even when you failed to use the service or get support. It once took them 2 weeks to retrieve a car that had a bad battery. I’m not sure they even picked it up it might have gotten towed. Turo has cars by owners so they actually care about your experience and the cars that they rent to you. They won’t pass on their problems to you like Zipcar started doing some years ago. So many great ideas come from MIT and then the founders sell out as anyone would. Unfortunately new management grows tired of cool new idea and tries to squeeze every penny from existing customer base. Time and time again.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAY OVER PRICED!. I’ve only been a member with you guys for less than a month and have spent roughly $1200 renting your vehicles! I want to express how much i regret not using a different service than Zipcar! Every time I’ve been in one they have been extremely dirty with debris, smoke odor, and trash ! Not to mention a couple of them have even had service due lights on! One being “transmission error”? You need to come up with some way or incentive to make other Zipcar users return the vehicles clean! I took my little spare time and money that I have YET AGAIN as I have done with each of your cars I’ve rented and made sure to clean up debris, wipe it down with armor all, vacuum them, and cleaned the windows but I’m not going to continue to do so if it’s not enforced or regulated to others! Especially with the HORRIBLE customer service I receive EVERY time I have to call your company. The agents are rude and don’t care nor listen to our comments! I EVEN HAD TO USE PERSONAL MONEY TO GAS UP because the gas card was not in the car!Considering how ungodly expensive your service is to rent a car for a day you’d think that Zipcar would be on top of issues like these but that’s unfortunately not the case. To say the least I am VERY disappointed and honestly don’t know if I will even continue to use this service!

Love Zipcar, app can be weird. Love Zipcar! If you are thinking about getting it, do it! I save a fortune not owning a car and still go and do all the things I want with nice new cars that magically get bigger or smaller when I need them to! 🪄 😉 A few weird app complaints. I get notifications on my phone, recently about a storm and in the past about weekend discounts. But when I tap the notification to read more, it opens the app to the regular reservation screen. There is no list of notifications in the app, so I can’t read about the storm warning or get the discount the notification teased me with! 😠 Another app issue is that when the app first opens and I tap on one of the search options to edit the search by date or time or location, it just does a search for now, nearby. I rarely need a car right now, so I always have to click again to edit the search. So annoying. I still love zip car but wish they would fix these app issues!

Gone downhill. I love the idea of Zipcar and have been a member for several years. However the customer service and overall experience has declined significantly. I was told after a rental that the car I drove had damage and I would be charged for it, even though it was not during the documented time of my rental. I received this information in a random email and called customer service. The person I spoke to refused multiple times to tell me what the damage was, when it was incurred, or what the next steps were. They just told me they couldn’t share the information but “it would be taken care of.” At that point I thought I had been scammed so I monitored my accounts but never saw or heard anything come of it. I’ve recently tried to cancel my account on multiple occasions and have gotten numerous error notices pop up on their website and in the app. It keeps saying the site is down, or I have to finish my account, even though I’ve rented with them multiple times. Other times it will let me log in and take me to my account page, but not my membership page. As I said I’m all for carshare services but won’t be using Zipcar anymore.

Very easy first time. Easy to set up and book. Let's see how it drives!

Great app, even better service.. The level of service received has been amazing. The team set up my account in 2 days and sped my card out to me. Easy service, plenty of cars.

Beware. Car wasn’t even there! ZipCar acknowledged that it wasn’t there and would only give a partial refund. Spent 2 hours trying to find the car for them. What a waste of time.

Zip car outstanding!!!. So easy to use and helpful

Frustrating. The app does not search far enough around an area so I have to keep setting it to a site where there are cars where as the web based version would find the cars fine. Also I can not see booked cars. This feature is useful as some times when all cars in a location are booked I can change my times to suit availability. Where as this app just says there are no cars available.

Why is this on the Australian app store. Great if you are in the US.

The app died and couldn’t unlock or lock the car. Used this app twice, each time the app dies when I get back to the car, I can couldn’t use app to unlock the car, hope it will gets better in the future. The app quality is a big bug at the moment.

Simple and straightforward. This is a great app. Very straight forward to find and then book cars. Works perfectly. The booking process could be refined a little to make it easier to find free time slots but this is a minor thing. Downloaded it from the Australian store and used it in the UK and USA so good to have access to it from Oz.

Let's us zip around with ease. App does what it says. Unlock car and sound horn don't seem to work, but could be a network issue. Either that, or the "sky wizards" are out to lunch at that time :)

WARNING - International travellers beware.. I had my 3 weeks to the UK literally ruined by a combination of awful UX interface that is stupidly designed to make you think you are signed up while you’re not, with a completely powerless helpline dependent on an uncontactable IT Dept in the US. Left standing in the freezing cold for hours next to an unopenable vehicle while a powerless helpline failed either to understand or address the issue. Since then at least 25 emails and 30 phone calls have still Not fixed the problem . I lost considerable money as I did not rent a car for my UK trip relying on Zipcar and your excellent reviews. Your system is dreadful, your customer service has wasted hours of my time holding on phone calls and writing emails amd the result is literally ZIP. Nothing. Apparently the issue is that my mobile number is Australian. How ridiculous. Avoid.

There is a reason it is in the Aussie app store... Some people travel to the US! (and yes, I have a US drivers license to use this service.) Amazing!

Scam and hidden fees. This app is useless, with no customer service no solution and so many hidden fees. Avoid this scam app

Good app.. Yep, good app.

Useless. This app dosent have Australia in it, why have it in the Australian app store ?

All I need!. Great stuff

How an app should be. Simple, clear and real time accurate. Great app

Excellent...!. Easy to use, UI design is good, and finally - simple.... Not opened a car with it yet.. Will be well impressed if it does what it says....

Do not use this service. The service is built solely on application rejections. You apply. You pay a fee for the application. It’s rejected. You can try again, get rejected and pay the fee multiple times out of pocket. The fee is non-refundable. They claim they also need to check your driving record to rent their vehicles. I could understand this if they are offering the option for insurance coverage under their company but, if you have your own it’s not worth it. You’re better off renting a car or buying a car if you can. The customer service agent states this is how their business is built and that “the city” (we’ll assume it’s Toronto) is aware of the scheme and approves of it. Stay away from this one if you can. The other bad reviews here are also very telling of their business practices.

Don’t sign up if you’re Canadian. Zipcar went ahead and charged a $30 application fee then promptly rejected my application. The reason why? They don’t accept Canadian licenses. Now where did it say this when applying even though my location and license information was clearly entered before hand. It’s a scam, don’t fall for it

Completely trash...highly unrecommended. It doesn't allow you to update your phone number....tried a million times but still can't receive the code...called customer service and was told they can't help with this...plus you can't delete your account as well! Rediculous! It's been wasting three hours of my time and nothing solved!

Need more accessible locations. Need more accessible locations

Not trustworthy. This is the worst car rental experience I have had because it did not even begin. They did not accept a valid govt issued license uploaded on the app and refused to explain why a paying customer is refused service arbitrarily.

Don’t waste your money. Cars are in terrible condition. Customer service is brutal. For the cost, I expect so much more. Cancelling my membership. Avoid at all costs.

The have so many pugs in the app they have to fix. I used their cars 3 times And I faved so many issues in 2 times, one time the horn kept going on for almost one hour and the didn’t refund the one hour The second time the app crashed and I couldn’t end the trip, and I called the support number the didn’t answer for more than 40 minutes they didn’t answer Don’t try it

I would give a Zero. Total Zero.. Signed up for zipcar and it told me to add a payment information after I added the payment information it charged me the application fee of $28.25. No where on the screen while creating the account it was mentioned about the fee. But It was mentioned on the terms and conditions page but while creating application it wasn’t shown anywhere’ about the charge. Even while creating the application It didn’t say that I can’t drive with G2 so my application was rejected. I did have my international license; if I would knew i would give my international license. Total mess. The app is a mess. 0 Stars. Please refund me

Miss charge. They charged for the application fee upfront, and if your application got rejected, they won’t refund the fee. Better charge for only approval only

Stole 28$ from credit card!. Be careful, this app shows during registration that 1$ will be charge from the card, finally charged 28$ without my authorization. Scam

READ IMPORTAANT first time user. PROS - car near u CONS - built in gps requires lengthy sign up u need VIN #; add extra 1 hr before your trip to do this -if a non-zipcar takes your spot they will ask u to pay for parking or worst depending on which agent u get may say u will be liable for towing fees -agents not knowledge about helping u trouble shooting car so their Road Assist is really just regular customer service -they don’t tell u u can extend time later so u book more than u have too in the beginning -if u leave your stuff in the car and pick up later, u have to pay full hr and not half hour that they allow during extension -pin to parking doesn’t work sometimes so make sure u check location/car night before

Looting us as an application fee. This app first charge you as an application with 28$ and and this app will not approve your application and also will not refund your that fee also. Just making the business by taking 28$ as a application and saying that this is government fee. Please don’t pay this amount.

Easy to use. Reviews of car cleanliness, fuel levels, window water dispenser etc should be reviewed by each user similar to UBer driver reviews, just a suggestion!

Really really bad customer service. On 21st Feb 2021 I had an incident. It was the fault of the other driver. I listed a whiteness, provided all the info. I had their premium insurance package. Zip car suspended my account to investigate. It’s now 13th October 2021 (8 months) and my account is still blocked. I called them 16 times, engaged with their social media team on Facebook messenger, emailed them and tried to escalate the issue in every way I can. zip car is unresponsive or respond with “we will look into it” and they never do. To make it worse, they continue to charge me and stop responding to requests for refund and stop charging my account while they investigate. So I’m paying for a a service I’m not getting. They do not care about customers at all. This company has the worst customer support I have ever seen. I advise to seek alternatives. I hope they go bankrupt and a better rival overtakes the market.

Loggin in problem. Why still can't I sign in? Not found 404!!

Price is double of what they advertised. They advertise CA$14/hr and CA$100/day but there is no car for this price after signup. All cars are over CA$20 or more and $200/day after taxes. Not to mention membership fee of $9/ month wth. This is very scammy. They charge application fee of $30 on top of it after document submission. Never using it as it costs more than rental car.

Fake or Issue app. Download the app on March13, 2022 San Francisco time at 11:30pm The payment page keep opt me out after I fill all my card info , and was not allow me to add the payment successfully . But just after 10min, I received a msg says as below “ FreeMsg: Royal Bank Fraud Dept:Pls confirm today's activity on Credit Card ending in XXXX for $28.00 at MAR-I-Z-27637816. Reply Y to confirm, otherwise reply N.” And my account was suddenly not allow to log in after I received the msg. Really suspicious of a fraud or phishing happened.

Terrible. DO NOT USE ZIP CAR. So unprofessional wasted 3 hours of my time.

Just buy a car or rent elsewhere cause this ain’t it.. Car was a mess and no gas card and was asked to use my own funds to fill the tank although it should of been included in the price. Refund, couldn’t get.

Cancelled my account. The app didn’t work although it was the 1st install on my phone. It asked for birthday verification, then asked for a call, support sent to tech team… To say more, I haven’t received my zip card in 2 weeks (Canada). Had to cancel my account because overall it was a very frustrating experience.

Very useful but very inconsistent.. very good service, and cars are often there when needed. Used zip for personal errands, however, can be very inconsistent with pricing (fluctuates between $8-$15/hr), not a lot of cars in my area, and the monday-thurs after 6pm promotion isn’t there anymore; so rides can be very expensive (paying almost $70 for just 3 hours)

Terrible app, rejected application for no reason. They rejected my application and didn’t provide refund. They didn’t remind me that with a temporary G2 I couldn’t apply for it. So I switched to another company and it works!

Scammer - Charge 28.25 CAD fee (non-refundable) and later reject application. Sign up don’t show any application fee but they charge immediately and reject your application later saying you’ve temporary G2 license, not acceptable. Now - 1. They will not refund application fee even though I’ve not used their service even once 2. They won’t let you update your profile for the physical card 3. They won’t let you reapply ever - as if now I will after this horrible experience!! 0/10 Rating

Awful company. Avoid this company. This company is awful. Absolutely awful. Avoid them like the plague. They are repulsive

Nice car, nice trip. I am glad that Zip has this beautiful BMWx1, which have made my trip smooth and enjoyable.

They are scammers. I called before applying for the account for which they charged $36 (so called application fee). Their representative told me that I am good to apply with my Canadian G2 drivers license. I asked her 3 times and answer was still the same. After I applied, they sent me a mail within 15 minutes stating that I don’t meet the eligibility criteria. They are looting people by giving false information over the so called helpline number.

Probable Scam. They encourage you to sign up and ask for payment information and then reject your application and still charge you a membership fee. Later when I called they said it was processing fee. They charged it as a membership fee and never it’s for the application processing. They didn’t say it will be non refundable I would not have applied. I’m worried that they still have my information.

Charged my card and refused to refund me. I never fully set up the app, and realized that Zipcar was charging my card. After reaching out the support team, they lied and said no record of a charge existed despite 3 separate items on my card. Will be getting my bank to proceed with a chargeback, never using this app again.

No logical screening process. I tried applying to book a car, at the time of application I had a G2 license in Ontario Canada. They rejected my application on the basis that I don’t meet license eligibility criteria, which apparently is G. Well soon after I passed my G test and I informed Zipcar of the same asking if I can reapply, I was told once rejected you cannot reapply. I actually am unsure what the logic and rationale is behind it ? If I have the license level they require now, why can’t I reapply ? The customer service is also subpar, they aren’t making very great business decisions.

Worst bill policy. I was 9 min late for the trip and there's only one booking in half an hour so I didn't interrupt other's trip. The company charged me the price of an extra half hour PLUS $35 late fee. They assume you should stop your car in the middle of your trip to extend your booking hour in order to not being fined. Who has the time to do this if they are trying hard to make it on time?? Are you guys rely on these unreasonable rules to make profit?

Worst service ever!. It’s been 3 weeks since I applied for zipcar. And still haven’t got my zipcard. Whenever I call support they keep asking me to wait. What is the point of monthly membership when I can’t even use it. Won’t even give 1 star if had a option.

Poorly optimized app. Can’t add credit card during application in text box, if you manually add a credit card it doesn’t acknowledge it’s been added, continuously asks to re enter drivers license info despite being stored on profile, no automatic caps when entering postal code. It’s just poorly optimized despite a generally nice appearance.

Lack of integration. I don’t like giving bad reviews but I had to write about my experience. I tried to obtain an account on the Browser. After much circular workflow (it said that I had an account with my email; then it said that I needed to login with that email; and I tried to reset my password; and It didn’t recognize my email…] Finally called emailed support and was able to finally create an account. downloaded the app but unable to login with my password. How is this supposed to work! There is lack of integration between the browser and the app. This is ridiculous

Do not use it.. Highly not recommended

Hyundai. car was in such bad shape, no windshield fluid. Car had a very strong smell that wouldn’t leave no matter what especially when the heat was on. The mirror that indicate if someone was beside you don’t work and the driver seat warmer didn’t work.

Not enough cars, don’t waste money on application fee, it is non refundable. Bad experience

Horrible systems. I’ve not been able to register due to some glitch in their address section of application, but somehow it picked up my credit card details and now I’m being charged the fees without actually having an account!

UNPROFESSIONAL/SCAMMERS. Zipcar recently changed their Toronto nightly rate from $28 to $85 that’s a 300% jump and did so without informing anyone. I call Zipcar to ask what that price is and they say it’s a glitch and I could book it and they will reimburse me. Last 3 phone calls they said they will forward this to some payment people and they will get back to me in 2-4 days, ITS BEEN 3 WEEKS. Last phone call the lady just hung up. How do you expect to do that to students. This is horrible.

Beware: you will get charged of declined. They will charge you the full application fee even if application is declined.

Scammers with terrible customer service. They will literally force you to pay for someone else’s damage without doing thorough checks or even installing dash cams in their car so they can hold the correct people accountable. They’ve suspended my account and will not let me drive for damage I did not do and told me that I will still be charged for membership services while the investigation is being carried out. I would not recommend this car share service to anyone that there are plenty others out there that won’t do this to you.

Cleanness. The cars are not clean at all, most of them have bad odor especially weed smoked in the car!!!

Use with caution. Ended up wasting my money and time and not being able to use the car for my plan and errands

Absolutely Do Not Recommend. I do not recommend this app for first time tries, especially if you are not sure cars are available in your city. The app will take your money to sign up for the service, and would refuse to refund the sign up fee a few days later when you find out they have 0 cars available in your city. Absolutely do not recommend.

poor service and expensive. It is easy to use, however, it is much more expensive than other car share service. The service is terrible, especially when something happened, even small issues: such as violation, ticket, and timing. The basic car costs around $160 a day include all fees and max 200km, and will be much more expensive when you get fancy cars.

Joke company terrible costumer service. They are so terrible! It’s impossible to solve a problem! Its looks like everything supposed not to work

Payment system sucks!!!!. If you need to change your payment method. good luck! Because it’s not happening. Plus they tell you about initial sign up cost .

Unapologetically happy to lose clients. DO NOT APPLY TO JOIN ZIPCARS WITH A G2. Make sure you read and meet all their criteria or they will block you permanently. As a newcomer to Canada I downloaded the Zipcar app and attempted to use a G2 license to setup the account. I was advised that it required a full G license and it was an acceptable request and as such i complied. A few months later, when I required the services of a rental and decided to use Zipcar (despite having great experiences with multiple rentals like enterprise, thrifty and hertz) I was surprised when the account was blocked. Assuming it required, manual activation since it was declined earlier, I called in and stated my request and was advised by a chirpy young lady that once you have been declined the system permanently blocks me. I advised her that since I was in possession of a full G license it should not be an issue. She advised me that she was helpless and this was an issue she could not fix. Upon repeated insistence to speak to a manager or an escalation officer I was sent through to a supervisor who it was clear (although courteous) didn’t care if a solution was found. I stressed that it did not make sense to me since I had good driving history and a full G license and that it is something that they as a business should look to correct but she made it clear that they have banned and blocked me as a client and I will never be able to use their services. I was upset that the business itself was so flippant about losing clients who are potential repeaters especially since the only reason I considered it was because they had a station in my condo building making it easier for me with winter coming but clearly they don’t want the meager $700 a month I spend on rentals.

They’ll reject your application and not tell you why. Vague requirements on their website makes it so even if you meet all of them you can still have your application rejected and then they refuse to tell you why they rejected your application.

No longer affordable. I think zipcar rencently hiked up price by 20-30% in Toronto, it’s no longer an affordable option to rent a car for a short period of time, time to switch to another company

App doesn’t work. I’ve been a loyal customer for 15 years. The app and cars were always very reliable for me. However, the last year or two has been hugely problematic. Currently, the app is a complete failure. When I try to make a booking, lock or unlock a car, the app either logs me out or tells me to call customer support. I’ve tried all their recommendations, and cannot get the app to work anymore. Time to switch companies, I guess. :(

Worst experience with a rental car EVER. I scheduled a reservation for a Zipcar at 12:30 pm the car took forever to unlock through the app (wasn’t given a zipcard). Finally after about 15 minutes of error messages I was able to unlock the car at about 12:45 pm. Stopped at the supermarket to pick up a few items before I went to the beach and was not able to unlock the car after that. I kept getting a message saying I wasn’t in range of the car even though I was literally a foot away from the car. Called Zipcar customer service only to be put on hold for 45 minutes and when I finally got to talk to someone from roadside assistance I was told I had to wait an additional 30 minutes for them to call me back with a solution. I asked if I was just supposed to wait outside next to the car for an hour in 90 degree weather to which the lady on the phone replied “yes”. BY FAR THE WORST CAR RENTAL/CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE. STAY AWAY FROM ZIPCAR IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. If you don’t care about being ripped off then go right ahead and use this horrible service.

App is so bad it makes me want to take the bus.. This app is so bad it has made me HATE using ZipCar. I’m embarrassed I used to call myself a “Zipster.” For shame! Here’s the thing. Once upon a time for a school assignment I used the ZipCar app as an example of excellent UX design. Now it couldn’t be worse. It feels like they updated it for the sake of doing an update. Not for the sake of making booking a car any easier! every time I open this app I am frustrated all over again. Why am I looking at a map instead of selecting a start point? Why is that step 2? And the start and end times. I have no idea how they managed to complicate that so badly. The simplest concept in the world. A giant map to look at, but on the page to select location... my home address isn’t even in the drop-down list! How is it that I’m logged in, you know who I am, the blue dot on the map says you know where I am, in my very house, but you can’t even give me my home as a suggestion, never mind default. I’ve been a customer for 13 years. This is so disappointing.

NOPE. My first experience with Zipcar was terrible. The car I reserved was not where it was supposed to be for pickup and it took 15 minutes for anyone to help me at their customer service number. I was able to switch my reservation to a different car and was told that I wouldn’t be charged because of the missing car issue. Today I saw the charge for the reservation show up on my credit card and attempted to contact the customer service team by phone, this time waiting over 35 minutes and having to hang up so I could attend a meeting at work. I found a support email address on a third party website (there is no live chat or email option available on any of the Zipcar UIs) and after emailing that alias, received only a boilerplate instruction to return to the website to submit a report, even though submitting a report looks impossible on all UI surfaces. So, long story short, I’ll be finding another car share service for my needs since Zipcar doesn’t appear to respect my time or my money. Really, really disappointed.

Terrible - canceling after 15yrs. Zipcar member for 15yrs...have not been able to use the app for over a month...keeps asking me to verify my birthday, but does not accept what I believe to be my birthday...called Zipcar...said they fixed it...it’s not. Then they suspend my account due to too many logins - so they are charging me an annual fee to use the service but denying me use of the service...until they can figure it out, which has taken over a month. Brilliant business plan. Customer service completely unhelpful (block and tackle for the company - unable to elevate concerns). Also, why always show me a map of the entire U.S. when I just need a car near my home or within a few blocks of where I am? Definitely several steps back in user friendliness. Too many alternatives - considering leaving Zipcar after so long...thanks, Avis.

New App is almost worst than their customer service!!. The new app is awful! I can't save addresses and it doesn't auto zoom in my location and drive options once an address IS typed! Can't change payment options which is MOST IMPORTANT! How do you not give your users that simple freedom to choose how they pay?? You basically can't do anything except book a car. And then when you try to call for help - hah! Might as well call your uncle who's on that business trip in Borneo. He'll be more helpful than the reps at Zipcar. Once I had an extremely faulty transmission and had to follow up myself for three weeks to get any kind of acknowledgement, AND to get them to listen and take the car off the road or fix it! This time, I've called twice to have wiper fluid put in the SUV that I always rent....still nothing! And winter is here so when it snows and there's no fluid? Thanks for looking out Zipcar. I'm about to start using the newer car sharing services that have joined the arena. Things can only go up from here.

Often stranded with no explanation. When this app works, it’s great. Sounds great in theory. But a good amount of times, it doesn’t and it’s always when you need it most. I live in LA one of the biggest cities in the US and they can’t manage to have available cars and more than about 10 cars in the city that are almost always booked. The other issue is the reliability. I had an important moving date and suddenly found my reserved car to be MIA. The call rep didn’t even have access to its current GPS. This has happened to me multiple times and tbh, we know more than the call center themselves. All I could do was get driving credit. But I’ve now wasted my time, the money it took to uber to the pickup location, and have no way to move my items from my apartment. This has happened to me multiple times where my rental car is just MIA, someone else has it, or they cancelled my reservation for no reason. So if you have any important need for the car, I would not book with zip car. It’s like 50/50 you’ll actually get the car when you get there. It also leaves you just stranded in the city wherever the pickup is. They always only offer $20-$30 driving credits but it’s like at this point why would I continue to use your service. CANCEL your monthly subscriptions it’s not worth it. Honestly, use another app/ride share/or just buy a used car at this point. Also cars will ALWAYS smell of cigarettes to the point you will get headaches.

Worst experience ever. 1st vehicle I got smelled like cigarette smoke which was okay I guess even tho I’m not a smoker. Then a few days later I rented another car for 24 hours. I get the car and it’s smells of marijuana. I call customer service who then advised me to return the vehicle where I got it from and closed out that car. Then he sends me a 1/2 mile down the street to get the same car I had a few days ago. Okay cool I can handle the smell. I get into that car and again it smells of marijuana there a cigarette on the set a lighter in the cup holder. Cigarette ash all on the door, the seats, the dashboard and not to mention the floor had dirt and grass along with cookie or crackers crumbs in the back seat. I again called customer service who then again had me close out the trip and directed me to another car. This time the walk was 26 minutes so I had to get a Uber (customer service said they would refund the money from Uber back) get to that car and yet again it smells like weed. I would never recommend using this company to anyone.

Terrible customer service. I was unable to unlock my car with my key card and I waited on hold for 10 minutes only to be hung up by customer service 30 seconds into my call. I had to call back again (waiting another 10minutes on hold) to get another rep on the phone who was able to help me. Zipcar loves to tack on hidden fees after every trip. What they say will only be $9 or $12 dollars for a hour trip will almost ALWAYS come out to $17 or $20. Car2go is a lot better and there are no hidden fees that they tack on at the end. What car2go says you will pay is exactly what you pay unlike Zipcar. I also have two Zipcar spots in my garage that have never had Zipcar’s parked in them. They are always empty and do nothing but take up parking spots because no one can park there. This company has been disappointing since I have joined and for what you pay you are better off using car2go or car-share if available. Good concept but terrible terrible terrible execution of service and product.

Bad user experience and customer support. Before I signed up, a search led me to believe that Zipcar operated in the location I needed a car. Once I signed up, I discovered that they don’t, and there are no cars in the area where I need them. (Found this out within an hour of signing up.) That’s misleading at best. Asked customer service to cancel/refund, and—four days later—got a very terse response saying too bad, the application can’t be refunded. Disappointing, but better/more polite messaging would have made me feel like they actually cared or valued customers. Overall, Zipcar is a low-tech, broken experience/app as far as the messaging/status/flow. And their customer service makes it clear they don’t care about customers or service. I’d look for other options that function better and treat customers better. I should have read the recent reviews before I signed up—looks like pretty universally bad experiences for recent users.

Zipcar left us stranded far from home for 4 hours. If I could rate this app lower I would. Zipcar messed up my reservation first by forgetting to find me a new car when the first one was having mechanical issues, then by offering to extend our reservation they only scheduled it for 2 hours instead of our scheduled 13 hours, leading us to be locked out of the car and stranded in a national park with one bar of cell service and no way out. By repeatedly telling us they would call back to send help to our location but never ended up calling us back each time, we had to end up having the rangers of the park help us find separate transportation out, as the park was soon closing and zipcar was no closer to helping us get home, which was a 2 hour drive away. In total zipcar left us without help for 4 hours in a park with no food or water, and then proceeded to overcharge us for the trip and somehow erased the over half of the credits they gave us for our inconvenience. I will never be using this service again.

Horrible service Horrible experience. Their customer service was rude obnoxious disrespectful, didn't care about anything. Their system is always failing. Overpricing ripping people off, Your best bet is going to a real renting company. They tried overpricing for their malfunction to their system. Cars would have a broken window. Some don't come with insurance or registration. They accuse you for their problems with the system saying you didn't pay. They charge your card with out any notices. They also make you feel like is your fault they charge you to retrieve your belongings if left by mistakenly. They charge for not having a spare tired when it's their problem. They would leave you stranded anywhere and not care. They told me they would pay me back for a Uber when their car didn't have a spare and I was stranded away from my home. When I tried to explain to them that their system was down on the app and the website and I was at work and needed to extend the trip they didn't care they just wanted the car back to it home location when I was at work.

The app cannot fulfuill the only purpose it is built for.. Every time I try to book a car it says "something went wrong". It works from the website. But that's not the end of the story, when I walk to the car and when I hit unlock from the app it says "something went wrong". I have been paying for subscription since last 5 months, and I still have not received my zip card. I called them multiple times but it did not work. Getting in touch with the customer care is another horror story. You will waste hours waiting in the queue and hours after that explaining it to the agent who has no clue about anything. I wonder this app must be bulilt and maintained by team of engineers, I myself work for a software company, and a small issue that might impact customers literally can cause us spend sleepless nights fixing the issue. What I think is that they just dont care at all about their customer and their feedbacks. This is the reason why monopoly is bad.

Needs improvements. I use Zipcar for work and errands since my car was totaled. When I began using it I would just use it for about an hour or two and would be told the ride would be $26 or near there. By the time I would finish the ride it would be $32 or more. So I started just booking it for 3 or 4 hours which would be that $36 or for the more expensive car I paid $44 for the three hours. I thought “okay even if i dont use it for the whole 3 hours its okay its the same price” but no price kept going on up. The prices for having the car the whole day would be about $75-85 and I was not understanding how then, was my 3-4 hour ride the same price??! They said they also charge me a young driver fee etc but I checked its like $2 per hour so it still doesnt add up. Why not include a warning when people’s prices are charging so we know if we can afford it or not? Zipcar is starting to seem like a scam to me

Useful service, garbage app. It's great to be able to get a car when I need one, but a real shame they don't have any competitors. Pray you never have to deal with customer service! Service aside, the app has been borderline unusable since day one, and apparently hasn't been improved one iota in the years I've been using it. Perpetually kicks you back to the splash page if you switch to another app while browsing cars. News flash, generally people booking a rental car are *making plans*, and making plans often involves more than one app! Many aspects of the service are not accessible thru the app, period, like all their help documentation, and at the same time you can't make reservations through the website! How do you run an app-based car service and think it's ok to make people call customer service for things like updating payment info? Uber and Lyft apparently were smart enough to figure this out. I don't understand how these guys think it's ok to just let their app languish for years on end when it's the primary face of the service.

Horrible experience. My boyfriend and I use Zipcar regularly. It started off great. Good experience. Cars smelled like cigarettes but rolling down the window wouldn’t be an issue. Our problems started recently. We would book and order a car, get there, only to find out that the car isn’t even there. We try calling customer service, it takes almost 2-3 hours on hold to get to talk to a customer service member. We tried again on various days, in different locations to rent a Zipcar but it was the same everywhere. We would book a car, arrive to the Zipcar location, and the car wouldn’t be there. It has happened over 10 times. The one time we did get a car, it busted midway through the rental. The worst experience we’ve ever had with Zipcar. The situation never gets better. If anyone has recommendations for other apps similar to Zipcar, let me know! Because Zipcar has disappointed us way too many times and it’s frustrating.

Locked out and charged for it!. I think it’s VERY important for people to know what Zipcar support will do TO you (not for you) when you’re stuck. They sent me someone else’s member card (unbeknownst to me), so when I tried to get back into a car I rented, I was locked out and unable to get in. And my phone, wallet, etc were inside the car still! It was 10 degrees outside, and Zipcar couldn’t find my account or the car when I called on my watch! How do you lose a car?! Their agents solution was to asks strangers to borrow their phones to sign into my Zipcar account! I ended up borrowing money to get a cab home, get my iPad, borrow money again from my neighbor to cab back and unlock the car to get my stuff using the iPad. I immediately called Zipcar to cancel my account - which they did, then asked me to return the car. Which I could not do since my account was now closed. They then charged me a $320 towing fee, $139 late fee, and the original $25 booking fee - and refuse to refund any of it. They locked me out of their car, gave me someone else’s member card, gave me frost bite, and made me beg strangers for money…but I get charged for their incompetence? Their phone agents just hang up on me and said they won’t do anything else. Luckily, my credit card company allowed me to do a chargeback. I just thank God this wasn’t an accident, because this could’ve been far worse! Run. Run. Run away from this company!!!

Used to be good. Now horrible service.. In he past year rates have double and tripled at times and number of vehicles has dropped. I’ve been trying to reserve a vehicle in Austin for several weeks now and apparently there are only two vehicles in all of Austin according to the app and they’re always booked. Since I paid my annual fee 11 months ago, I’ve only rented 3 times. I spent most of the weekend, calling several times to cancel my membership so it didn’t auto-renew like last year. Spent nearly 6 hours on hold in total. Sent several emails with no response. Got a msg back on social media asking for details to confirm my account only to tell me they couldn’t help me. Nothing but a waste of time. I finally got ahold of someone today with an accent so thick I could barely understand him with a horrible connection that didn’t help. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY WITH THIS COMPANY. Used to be good, not it’s bait and switch and then they just wait you out and hope you give up long enough to take more money from you. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!

Sometimes good sometimes $#!tty. I’ve had decent experiences before with Zipcar customer service, but more often than not in frustrated by the lack of understanding by reps. I explicitly started my most recent call prefacing that my account has locked me out due to password error (months since i last used the service but needed an affordable car rental, so i put my pride to the side) I also mentioned that I had proceeded my application fee for the wrong and could he help me? Not only did he tell me he couldn’t help me process the payment, he also told me too just reset my password, after i insisted that I just did that And got a message to contact customer service. After being made to explain the situation 2 more times, all ofc the sudden he can help me process my payment. Being frustrated i asked to speak to a supervisor, to which i was told they were busy and would call me back. This was Thursday of last week and I’ve yet to hear. I ended up renting with Getaround and had a much smoother experience, save yourself the hassle

Don’t. Please don’t bother with this company. I’ve heard about people getting to their car only to have the steering wheel fall off! Someone else told me that the morning she was leaving for a day trip Zipcar switched her pickup location to somewhere that was too far to get to. So yesterday as a last resort I searched on the site to see if cars were available in a specific area and it wouldn’t show me. Then I attempted to look to see the flex options which is a one way ride dropping off in a different location. Also couldn’t do this easily. I had to download the app and apply for a membership. As soon as I got my information in and paid the application fee I saw that there were no cars available. Irritating. Of course they won’t refund a penny. Even though I will never use the company when I’m back in Brooklyn since I’ve heard of enough horror stories of dirty, unsafe and broken cars. So basically I wasted my money and time which is fine. It’s how they get us. They used to be good! Not anymore. So just don’t.

Car Trouble and Bad Customer Service!!!. I’ve rented 2 zipcars in the past week, and they have been two of the worst experiences I’ve ever had driving. First, our car was broken into in San Francisco, it took hours to get ahold of a real person, and even once we did she was completely unhelpful. They were unable to get us a new car, didn’t give us definitive instructions, and basically hung us out to dry. We ended up driving the car 80 miles with glass shards falling out of the window the entire time. Even after we got home, the customer service stayed bad. Every time you call zipcar, expect to wait HOURS. On my second trip, I was renting the car to get to my second COVID vaccine appointment. After driving the car 0.5 miles, it just shut off. I started getting starter error messages, but was unable to find the source of these errors (I expect a fuel line malfunction). I had to push the car out of the intersection and call zipcar...for hours more of waiting on hold. THEY HAVE THE WORST CARS AND CUSTOMER SERVICE PERIOD.

So Far So Good. All is working well after they canceled my account for months then tried to charge me for a incident I wasn’t even in.....but after months they reopened my account refunded me my money in my acc that I was billed and apologized for the mistake due to timing of the incident....so for that I am very grateful......I do however live in the region where ONE-WAY is a thing.....but when I go to use that part of the service it’s never there.....or there is no option to use that service.....before I could switch between ONE-WAY & ROUND TRIP...this was before recent updates.....now it’s just a little confusing .....but all in all I give it 5stars cuz I ran into a problem and they fixed it and didn’t cost me anything so thanks for that ZIP for now I’ll continue to use your services.....FOR NOW🤦🏾‍♂️💁🏾‍♂️

Rip Off ?!. Okay, so I’ve had a few issues with Zip Car. The first being there’s always something wrong with the vehicle. Some light is always on on the dashboard indicating servicing is needed. Another being a freezing cold day, I booked a car for my nephews and I. The previous driver had not returned the car and we stood and waited while the customer service rep sent us to a new location in a deserted parking lot by a dangerous neighborhood. The last straw being them not having the car I reserved saying it was being serviced and had not been updated in their system as being serviced. I was moved to a different location in which I missed an entire half hour of my reservation and returned it 10 minutes late due to the big inconvenience it was for me to even get the car. Something was wrong with the breaks and then the gas was EXTREMELY low. I could barely take care of my business. Now they’re trying to charge me for a late fee plus the half hour I didn’t even use to drive anywhere?! Ridiculous.

Unplanned reservation changes. I have used Zipcar for over a year at this point and have loved using up until now. Twice already has my reservation changed cars to either on at a different college campus down the road from me that is currently locked down, or at a train station that would be almost over an hour walk on a very busy highway. The first time I was able to reschedule my car so I thought it may have been a glitch but it has happened again, and the car was booked for the whole day when I attempted to reschedule for the car. When I attempted to call customer service around 7:30 am I was told they where closed and where opened at 7:00 am. So either I’m being lied to or they need to update there machine to tell what local time they are using when they are saying seven o’clock. This whole debacle has left a sour taste in my mouth from Zipcar and I intend on not counting on with my subscription if such issues continue as it seems I would be better off with Uber or Lyft.

Zipcar is amazing. Rented a car Christmas Eve battery had died so was stuck in the car for hours reach out to representative and was told if not by certain time it’s okay just make sure vehicle is parked in good area and that you have all belongings. Once I leave 30 mins later after timing representative calls to tell me did u take pictures before you left I told her no that was instructed to then asked well can I possible go back told her Ms I’m already on the highway going home it’s freezing below temp outside not telling my cab driver to turn back around she said it’s fine then next thing you know it week later account suspended permanently decision can’t be reversed so I call just to inquire and was told we are not allowed to give out that information on why your account is closed which I find very odd you can’t give information out to the account holder based upon their account and was told we will email you information on why and til this day never received any and this was since January 2023

Is zipcar worth it?. Could be cheaper than what it is now. I used to enjoy renting cars from them but now it’s pointless. Yes it is cheaper than most car rental companies but the satisfaction of driving a car from them isn’t the same because of the time you have to return the car(if 15 minutes late you will get a hefty charge although no one has a reservation after you). There is always something upsetting when reserving a car(gas card missing or not working, and sometimes car don’t start after use or car isn’t at location after having a reservation set weeks to months ahead) there isn’t much cars that seats 7 passengers for long family trips and not a lot of gas stations that take their zip card so you normally have to keep cash with you or your personal debit/credit card for gas but they reimburse you as long as you have the receipt. Only good thing in my opinion is that I don’t have to travel far to pick up the car and an easy to use app that pairs with the car.

Cuatomer service horrible. This is t the first time I’ve had a rental not be available when I arrived but it was in an accident . Both vehicles , the agent told me no other cars in the area or grater la areas…. Oh really , hung up booked another vehicle instantly that had also been in a wreck . Couldn’t grace the vehicle out from behind the garage it was $60…. Because the garage key fob was missing , had three agent who didn’t speak English when I need a rebuttal or had questions but spoke perfecT ENGLISH TO you when thy were telling me why they could help me . No haste , no recourse just flat out deal With it . No reimbursement for having to get to multiple alternate locations because the cars were visibly damaged or smelled or were filthy. Make sure you check car before u book, if possible . Document everything Ans pay for nothing out of your own pocket . WHO CHECK TH CARS WHEN THEY ARE RETURNED . Who Inspects them after every ride , are they cleaned outside of peer cleaning ? No - no one - only after several report to the send a “team”. (Eye roll + KISSES TEETH)

Decent rates terrible service. I use their cars frequently because unfortunately there really aren’t many similar services in Manhattan. Unfortunately, the cars are usually dirty and damaged outside; bumps, parts missing, rarely maintained and usually dirty because the previous driver was an animal. They switch or downgrade the car on you often (for maintenance) and “forget “ to lower the price if it’s a downgrade. They also change locations on you very often (again for possible car maintenance)so you r original booking might be two minutes pick up away but then it changes to a location 20 minutes away. And if the gas card is missing from the car don’t expect a credit for money spent out of pocket for 10-15 business days. ALWAYS do a 360 check in and out before you drive the car out of the parking lot! ...I got a car once with a full flat tire , hubcap literally touching the floor!

Stranded. Needed to rent a car for a morning cause my car was in the shop. Went to pick it up and had a hard time unlocking the car cause it was in a garage and Bluetooth didn’t work well. Car smelled like straight gas and there was a joint container and leftover takeout food napkins, utensils, and scraps in the car. Got to my first gig. Everything was fine. Got to my second and after I finished teaching the car wouldn’t unlock from Bluetooth...again. Called customer support. They couldn’t help remotely. Waited 3 HOURS for their roadside assistance people to come open the car. Once they did, the car still wouldn’t start. Roadside assistance guy had to leave. Called customer service again and they directed me back to roadside assistance!!!! I was beyond frustrated. Finally I had them agree to have roadside assistance come and tow the car back to its home location. Had to get an Lyft home. Missed the rest of my work day and actually lost money because of this service because they disabled my ability to get to work. Save yourself a headache and don’t even bother with this service. I’d give 0 stars if I could.

Poor Experiences with customer service. Dear customer service, unfortunately I have had more than one bad experience recently with customer service, most recently when I got into the car it was on empty gas - I know this is not the company‘s fault, but I would’ve felt they would’ve made things right. Instead I waited on the phone for 57 minutes, waiting for a supervisor. I was told all that could be done was a $25 credit for future businesss. At the very least I would’ve expected an apology (sincere), and money off of the current rental car. I don’t think that’s too much to ask. It was quite stressful to be in the middle of San Francisco on empty. Sadly I will be ending my membership with Zipcar, even though it’s convenient, I’ve just had too many bad experiences and with no resolution or common ground. I wish the company the best, and hope that it’s in the works of improving their customer service. Living in silicon Valley I use the services of many great companies and unfortunately this is not one of them. Best Wishes, SF Local - Julie

Single mom of disabled special needs child. This rental company was great when I found a promo coupons and got a deal until I got to the car which looked brand new and clean and I got inside and I almost choked from cigarette smoke however they didLook out for me then I had an emergency and I called them to let them know that the app wasn’t working properly when I tried to have an extension and I only charge me a late fee but I they gave me 30 minutes to return the vehicle and charge me for the hour and when I returned it I called the company and was disconnected so when I looked in the morning at my phoneThere was a $500 charge saying I rented the car overnight when I didn’t I called the company and they told me that two people had rented the car even after me so that proves I didn’t have the car do you know what they told me they would leave eight inquiry in my notes that chargeThis is not a company that you want to rate from deal or no deal

Do not join!. Using Zipcar has been the worst experience I’ve ever had with a company. More than half the time the car I reserved either has not been available when I go to pick it up or has been dirty or damaged to the point of being unusable (huge dents in the side, strong smell of smoke, cigarette burns on the drivers seat, prominent stains on all the seats, dirt and trash from the prior user still in the car). It takes minimum 45 minutes to get someone on the phone and when they do pick up they usually are not able to find a replacement vehicle. I’ve seriously spent more time on hold with Zipcar and walking around the city trying to get to whatever car they claim to have available than I’ve spent driving. More than once in the same weekend I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company for a car that wasn’t available because Zipcar hung up on me or didn’t pick up the phone. And there’s no way to cancel your membership other than to call them and wait on hold for an eternity. Avoid this company at all costs.

Terrible car maintenance and customer service. Out of all the rides I booked since becoming a member majority of those rides were terrible experiences! A lot of cars are not inspected consistently as zip car mentions. I live in a commutable area with mostly college students around so you would expect the maintenance of a couple vehicles to be in poor condition but no it’s majority of the cars in Oakland, Pittsburgh. Anytime I had a bad car I called support to switch to a new car which is a frustrating process. The reps you talk to does not tell you if the new car your booking has any issues or where the car is exactly located. I booked a car; went to pick it up and it wasn’t at that designated location. When I called zip car support told me it’s at an alternate address; like what! Their were not willing to accommodate and a refund takes about 3-5 business days for you to receive. This is not fair at all especially to those you really have somewhere to be. Use the app with caution please!

Stay away from These things in crooks. After a month of using them and paying on average way more than what they advertise for the daily rate I will never use them again the most expensive rental car the most expensive rental car by far I’ve ever rented and the car was dirty couldn’t see at the windows every time I rented a car from them I’ve had to wash it yes I will never rent from them again stay far away from these guys they will take your money like thieves and not even blink twice what is this world come to one companies like Zipcar can stay in business they are the devil they are evil their Satanic and their thieves and they’re crooked and their crooks I will never ever rent from them again and they should be fraudulent what they do

Unethical Business and Terrible Customer Service. I’ve been using Zipcar for over a year and it was a great experience until recently… The previous driver who had the car before my reservation returned the car LATE with gas well under a quarter. This left me rushing to fill up the gas before getting to my location. I reached out to customer service to get the first 30min reimbursed since the driver was late but they refused to do so. Drivers have to pay a $50 fee when they return a car late and $30 for gas under a quarter….shouldn’t the next driver be entitled to a small 30min reimbursement for this inconvenience?? Why should drivers pay for time we were not able to use? When I further questioned customer support to explain where the late fees go, they stopped responding. Main point: Zipcar is making money when drivers return late or when the gas is low. The next driver should be entitled to a 30min reimbursement for the time we are not able to be on the road.

Terrible Service DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. This service is by far the worst experience I have ever had. Not only do they overcharge you over what they say they are going to but they also try to add on fees and hidden charges that you won’t notice. It is outrageous. Customer service is terrible. They are not at all helpful and can‘t give you an answer on questions you have regarding the charges. I have not only submitted an appeal for a refund with proof of the trip I traveled, but have reached out more than 5 times following up and each time they say they will follow up and they never do. Each car is so dirty and disgusting and is always in terrible shape. All the cars say no smoking and yet they smell of smoke and look like they haven’t been cleaned in years. For charging as much as they do per car you would think they at least would clean and detail them. It is cheaper for me to rent a car and use it than use ZipCar. Terrible experience overall and a terrible greedy company who is only in it for your money and does not care about providing a quality service.

Not worth it. Unless there business model works in your favor.. You have to pay a membership to get in. You have to pay a monthly fee. You have to pay a not so average hourly fee plus local fees before you even start driving. Then once you book and are on your way to pick up your vehicle, they cancel your booking due to unforeseen circumstances. Try and book again only to find out that any vehicle that is close enough for you to pick up has a conflict and cannot be booked and picked up for the time you need it. Your day plans are now ruined. They canceled my booking for unforeseen circumstances and I canceled my membership afterwards. They should of seen that coming. Anyways, is not worth the money, the hassle and boy are there rules and strings attached. By the time you get into a car is like you’re stepping into a dictatorship. It’s a great concept it it works for you, but I had to pass up on it. It’s definitely not the same company as when it started and I would not recommend.

Horrible. My frustration has reached a new height with this company. I've been a member with this company for over 3 years and after this last incident of many, I have lost my patience with them. Fundamentally, I think the company has a flaud and broken system. I reserved a car several days before the day I was to pick it up. Once I had walked a mile and a half to pick up the car, I came into the lot and saw no car. The issues here are ten fold: one, I was not notified that a car would not be in the lot. This is a managable problem that Zipcar has not taken the time to fix. Second, when an issue like this occurs, it would behoove Zipcar to have a contingency plan in place so that their members and customers are not inconvenienced. Third, when trying to speak with someone about an emergency, the hold time is over 30 minutes at the very least. They have no accountability and this has been just one of several excruciating experiences I've had with this company. Unfortunately, I have missed a very huge opportunity for a company's error to provide adequate service.

Worst customer service ever.. It’s been an year since I’m using Zipcar and in past couple of I faced many problems and today’s is the worst. I was going to airport to drop my friend and found that my rear tire is flat when I was 20 miles away from airport. First, I tried to change the tire and wheel frame got full of rust that the tire isn’t coming out of the car. I tried for around 30 mins by myself and I gave up. As it’s getting late for her flight I booked Uber for her. Then, I called Zipcar for road side assistance at 6:50pm and they said that I need to wait for 30-90 mins. I literally waited for 90 mins and called back. They again asked me to wait for 30 mins and that’s also done. Now, I’m calling them literally after waiting for 2 hrs 7 mins and no one is attending my call and kept me on waiting. Seriously this is the worst experience of my life with a car. Some of the worst customer service issues with Zipcar are: • Their cars are not maintained. Like oil life of zipcar I’m driving is literally 15%. • They do reject your calls after a wait of 10-15 mins. • They don’t care about you situation at all. • I heard from a customer care executive that they don’t have any contact with road side assistance and they chat if they want something from the membership team. How funny! This is the last time I’m using their. I strongly don’t recommend this car rental company to anyone. **** I literally have proofs for everything mentioned above ****

Need to do better dealing with cancellations. I’ve had Zipcar for about 6 months. I’ve booked 14 trips in that time and had 9 of them cancelled on me and 5 successful trips. The 5 successful trips have been great! It’s quick and convenient and not too expensive when it works. The trouble is they are in the minority. The majority of the time my trip is canceled in the last 24 hours or the car just isn’t there when it’s supposed to be. I’ve had to spend hours on hold trying to contact customer service to get compensated for the inconvenience, reimbursed for Ubers I had to take instead, or simply to get a refund when my car is not there. I really want to love Zipcar. I’ve seen how great it can be when it works. But they need to make it more reliable. Or at the very least they need to offer faster customer service and greater compensation for the inconvenience when a trip is cancelled last minute.

Terrible service. I have had a very frustrating experience with Zipcar. Last time I got one the car didn’t work (swipe card reader was broken). The guy at the garage helping me said the same thing happened to another customer a couple days earlier. Why didn’t they take the car off the list of available cars and switch me to another? Today I went to get a car and the car wasn’t there again. (Different car and different garage.). I was told someone else had same problem. Turns out the driver dropped it at another garage. Why weren’t we contacted? I was sent to 3 different garages looking for that car and then a replacement car. Ended up having to use Uber all day. I kept getting shuffled btwn customer service reps. Very disappointing and frustrating. Finally told a manager will call me back in the next 3-5 days. What kind of service is that??

How zip car has been ripping me off. #1 I’ve been paying for over a year and never received my zip card. When I called them on Monday to get it fixed I was told my card would be mailed to me by Wednesday. And that they would give me a credit $50 credit. I’ve been paying $9 a month for over year to keep the service in case of an emergency. I was like “that sounds great, thank you so much.” Wednesday come by and now care... so I wait till Friday to call back and see what’s up. On the Friday calm I was told that it would be 5-7 business days before I got the card. 7 business days later would have been May 29. Now it’s June 4th and I still haven’t received my card, and now when I call no one answers even after I spend 2-3 hours on hold. And nobody calls back after I request a callback. #2 In the month of May I was charged twice.... really!?! Yes... really... The same month that I’ve been asking them to resolve a separate issue! And going back to one of my issues from #1, no one answers when I call!?!? #3 I can’t even get a hold of anyone to request a refund for my year of wasted money, for a service that I couldn’t even use! #4 you can rent a car on Turo for far cheaper and less hassle #5 their rates aren’t competitive with other services. I will be reporting them to the better business bureau as I have literally tried everything else to get this resolved. If you have zip car and have an issue with them, I suggest you do the same because they will not

Thieves. If the car does not come with the free gas card or the card does not work, do not buy gas out of your own pocket. They let me put $40 of gas in a tank that was empty when I got it and said they wouldn’t reimburse me because my bank included the atm fee as part of the charge thus making it $42. Customer service blatantly told me that since it did not say exactly $40 they refuse to reimburse me. I’m canceling my membership. This is straight robbery and they’ve already been class action sued for deceptive practices. And also note, there is no management team. If the customer service agent you’re dealing with makes a decision, that’s it. There’s no one above them. They have all the autonomy to deny you service. There’s no oversight. Clearly sees a receipt that says $40 paid in cash. A bank statement that says $42 atm withdrawal. They see I received the car with a low fuel percentage and it now has a full tank of gas. Person decides they can’t reimburse because the atm pull doesn’t say exactly $40. You can’t make this up. Lost a customer that was paying $1000 monthly for rentals over $40.

the definition of “hit-or-miss”. Sometimes your car is exactly where it’s supposed to be and works great and is clean. Sometimes your car is nowhere to be found and when you call, the agent says it’s two states away because the last person didn’t return it. Sometimes your car is in the right place but it doesn’t start because it has a button start and the battery in the key fob is dead, so you’re out of luck for that day trip you planned. Sometimes your car smells like the dankest weed ever grown. Sometimes your car is in the right place but the person before you left the tank almost on empty, so you go to put gas in it but the gas card is missing so you pay with your own credit card, and when you submit a reimbursement claim they don’t get back to you in 2 weeks so you have to spend over half an hour waiting on hold on the phone and oh wait that’s literally what I’m doing right now because the customer service for Zipcar is garbage.

Cars unstable, no follow up, had to dispute every charge. First car I got was a lemon. A mechanic came out and told me that a lot of zip cars end up on the ditch like that. They mess with the engine internals so stuff like power locks and starting the car don’t work if it gets “out of sync” with the zip car system. I drove a brand new 2020 Honda CR-V with less than 400 miles on it for two blocks before it gave up and died on the side of the street. Had to pay 25 dollars for parking which I never got back despite submitting two reports to the billing team. Got charged a late fee for not returning the vehicle. Got charged other unexplained fees all of which I had to dispute on my credit card after ~months~ of silence from zip car. They had the audacity to keep charging me for membership after ignoring my credit card disputes and charges for their parking ticket. This company has dealt with many class action lawsuits from egregious late fees and other shady practices from this joke of a “business”. This is another one waiting for a firm to get enough clients together which I guarantee you there already are.

Don’t waste your time with them!! They are Horiible. Vehicles and customer service are alright sometimes but most of the time they are both HORRIBLE! I recently closed out my account due to the fact that I was being charged for toll chargers that I have never taken on that specific time of reservation. I had called customer service in regards of this toll charges and was told they will be contacting membership services and will be receiving an email from them in regards of this matter. I was also told that I’d be receding the email in a certain amount of business days however I have never received such email. Called Zipcar’s customer services multiple times and spoken to multiple agents including their amazingly VERY disrespectful supervisor Patricia, who by the way don’t have anyone that’s hire than her to help you out with this kind of problem. It is now February of 2019 and this issue occurred in November 14,2018. I received a collection letter in regards of my balance called the company and still the same issue. So I called the collection company for them to investigate this issue for me because I AM WASTING MY TIME WITH THIS PEOPLE.

Bluetooth access failed - no support - never again!. We took a car into an area out of cell range with the understanding that bluetooth would lock and unlock the car without cellular connection. It did not. We had to leave the car unlocked at each stop and were afraid to take the key in case something else happened. At least we could still drive it! When we returned to an area with (patchy) cell service it locked but then we spent 15 mins or more going through cycles of log-in and reboot and password resetting on the phone in order to finally get it unlocked and leave. Thankfully, we got there eventually, but now I do not trust these cars and will never use this service again. In hindsight, I wish there had been more warnings about these possibilities and better support if we had been totally stranded. Not okay Zipcar! It seems our experience was not unique, and you have some serious problems to fix.

Customer Service Issue. They are very unhelpful. After they switched my car because the first car had warning lights on they refunded and charged me more for the same car that was at the same location as the previous car after reassurance the price wouldn’t be different. I paid the balance then had an issue with them saying they haven’t received the payment after it’s cleared and posted to my bank account. The representative told me there was nothing he could do no assistance on how to get this settled or anything. I call back and finally get a answer on what to do but it’s now been 2 weeks of no update and still my account is on hold. I think as payments are made there should be confirmations sent out to emails because this is ridiculous. And hire people who actually want to give customer service, this car service is too expensive for crappy customer service.

Poor Customer Service. Your customer service has a lot to be desired. Anytime I call with an issue, I basically get a shrug and a ‘yes that happens sometimes.’ There is never an offer for compensation for time lost unless asked for. For instance, I got a flat tire and had to wait 3 hours to receive roadside assistance and when I called and told them that I had been waiting that long, all they said was ‘sorry about that ma'am’ so I said I hope you aren’t going to charge me for the 3 hours I was sitting here and THEN they offered to refund me 3 hours worth of money. I’ve also had a car not unlock so they transferred me to another vehicle and when I complained, then they offered to refund the half hour travel time it took me to walk to my next car. And they make you pay out of pocket for things like flat tires and then you have to send a receipt in for approval and wait to get refunded. Absolutely ludicrous.

Do not rent from this company ! EVER. If I could give this company -100 stars I would. If you live in NY PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND THE MONEY. I’ve only rented from this company 3 times since joining them and each time has been a pain in my a**. The first time I rented from this company the car I rented out was dented in and the mirror knocked off. I was told to drive the car until they find a new one. Crazy right ? The second time I got stuck in a garage twice because of the phone to car unlock system not working, I had to get towed out of one of them. Third time I thought that it would be a good experience but oh was I wrong. It started off fine but then as I’m heading back to the car to get in it wasn’t unlocking with the zip card I was issued in the mail. I called customer service and was told they could not unlock the car, I was also told that the card I was issued was in someone else’s name which was odd to me because I just received it !! I will never rent from this company again and I hope that you won’t waste your time or money with this incompetent useless headache of a business!

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TELL YOU LIES!!!. I signed up for Zipcar under the university plan almost over 2 MONTHS AGO because my college is partnered with them. While I was applying on the application, I tried submitting it and for some reason they wouldn’t accept the submission so I exited out. The next day, I got an e-mail saying I can’t be a member of Zipcar because they did not approve my application!! EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT SUBMIT IT AND MY CARD WAS NOT CHARGED FOR THE APPLICATION FEE. I don’t know what reasons I could not get approved because I’m 21, I have a drivers license AND I have a clean driving record. I called customer service MANY MANY MANY times to see why and they did NOTHING to help. All they kept telling me was to wait for an “e-mail” from their higher department. I still have not gotten an email up to this day (and it’s been almost 3 months). Their customer service is bad. Why have people work as your customer service team when they can’t do anything to satisfy their customers?! What is the point of even having your customer service people?! Zipcar really needs to work on this and needs to get workers with higher quality better experience.
