Perfect?!. This chess app is amazing and feels like it has everything you can possibly need. The chess AI can play at an extremely high level when you want it to and Ive learned many things from the AI! Also the live matchmaking system has a wide variety of options you can choose from, my favorite being the 10 minute matches because they are quick and fun, and it matches you up with other players in mere seconds. I would recommend this app to any chess player, whether it be just starting out or a great player because the matchmaking will set you up against opponents of equal skill level and the AI can be set to any rating as well. For beginners there are videos and a bunch of resources available to help you to become a great chess player as well! One last thing I want to point out is that the developers are phenomenal, they are quick to address any problems you may have and really care about the app and want it to be the best it can be. If you have problems or concerns I would highly suggest trying to reach out to them!

A developer responded to my review. THIS IS A GOOD APP FOR CHESS .. ONES OFF THE BEST.... Thevr ponse to me was about scoring and explain how difficulty levels changed how many points you gain or lose. ....I guess he didn't read my review because I said I've done over 4000 of the puzzles so I can improve....I said I noticed that I have done the same puzzles several times and the scoring is screwed up.... When solve the puzzles I get 5 points.... When hurry and screw up I lose 12 or 15 points etc etc blah blah right... The developer didnt take the time to realize I'm not a moron and I did over 4000 puzzles before the review saying it's flawed making cancel my DIAMON DR membership... DONT waste your time if your responding to make an excuse or explain why I too "dumb " to understand the scoring ..:) ITS PRETTY SIMPLE TO UNDERSTAND....Respond to have two way communication Soo the app will get better for everyone and people will like it more. WHEN a customer TAKEs THE TIME TO REVIEW a product, is probably BECAUSE they want to say thanks or help improve it..... If you learn about issues you can fix and improve the app.... Then WILL BE MORE LOYAL AND and Happy and YOU'RE BUSINESS will NB be STRONGER FOR IT. THANK YOU 🙂

were asking for something small. Dear chess. com developers, I hope this message finds you well. I would like to kindly request the addition of the Kurdistan region and its flag to the game, representing Kurdish players who have a passion for chess. As we all know, Kurdistan is a recognized region with its own flag and diplomatic relations with several countries. I believe that adding the Kurdistan flag would be a great step towards promoting diversity and inclusivity in the app. Kurdish chess players will feel proud and appreciated to see their flag represented in the platform, and it will accurately represent the Kurdish chess community. I am confident that this request aligns with your vision of expanding the user base and attracting different player demographics. I understand that fulfilling this request may require additional time and resources, but I believe that adding the Kurdistan flag will bring value and make a positive impact on the app. Thank you in advance for considering and taking into account this request. I look forward to your response and the possibility of seeing the Kurdistan flag added to the app. Best regards, I also have a question, why is there a flag of Catalonia but not of Kurdistan? this is something small but it will push a couple steps forward.

Chess Reveiw. This is the best chess app I have ever found. All of the other apps say “This is the best way to learn chess and play with friends! Download now!” But they are a scam and waste of time. I mean they’re doodoostank. They all have just sent me to a monthly subscription. One tried to charge me $285 PER MONTH! I will say no names, but that app was terrible. This one teaches me for free, and if you want it, there is non-required subscription to diamond mode. This app teaches me information I can actually use in chess, and not just where and how to move a pawn. The end and beginning of one app’s beginner’s method was “Chess is not checkers” and that was it. The end of pro mode was “go to this link and learn from a teacher and I waited for the teacher for an hour. Check the app’s reveiw before downloading. This app is nothing like that though. This app is good. This app is free, and best of all, NO ADS! I love it! (Ps. I learned to smoke my cousin with this app.) This app review has no hate toward it. Only love. May the Lord God bless you and have great day! 😉

Wonderful app for getting one into the game.. I have played around with Chess apps for years. This is the first one that actually gets me going and keeps me coming back. I have bought the diamond level and find it fascinating!!!! I am 61 years old and have never developed a “3 to 4 steps ahead” thinking style. This app is the real deal and is played by some really smart people. I believe it has all of the tools that I need to keep my mind sharp as I enter my senior citizen years!😁 An almost perfect app and I don’t give five stars unless I LOVE an app. (note to developers: there is a fatal bug in the puzzles/learning/puzzles missed section. When you get done with all of the “missed puzzles”, the app goes back to a starting position and then goes back to the home screen. I am using the latest version of the iOS. This has not been a big deal for me because I just start the app up again and it works perfectly but I thought for the sake of tidying up loose ends you might want to look at it. 😊)

Wonderful App For Beginners. Having known not much more than the basic rules, I find this app extremely helpful in helping me understand different moves and tactics. I now win almost all of my friendly games and I also compete in some casual tournaments in my community. Most of my more advanced learning has come through this app, and it’s super handy. It gets your through the very basics quickly and brings you right in to the good stuff. That, along with some of the daily puzzles, offer a new experience every day. I do not use premium but it seems that it would be worth it. You get so many more puzzles, which is one of the best way to master your moves and analysis of the game. The videos and streams are also convenient and not too bulky and very user friendly; the chess teachers are welcoming to viewers and keep a lively environment to keep me from getting bored. I can easily spend 20-30 minutes a day or more without ever getting bored or tired of it. A fantastic app all around, free or paid.

Great app to improve your chess skills and enjoy playing anytime.. Overall, excellent app to hone your skills, learn new material, practice against the computer in a game or doing training drills while the best feature remains playing fellow human players worldwide any time you want to play. There are some issues with interrupted connections and I am unsure how abandoned game forfeitures work. Sometimes my opponent appears to leave a game and I have to wait for all the time to run out for the game to end and other times when a message says “”Opponent name” with lose by abandonment in X minutes”. How the program determines how many minutes to reconnect without forfeiture is unclear. Also, the ability to suspend a game by mutual agreement to resume at some point set by GMT would be a welcomed enhancement. There are far fewer session control freeze ups or games disconnected issues than a few years ago. Still, great site and app. Highly recommend.

AWESOME but Premium…. Hi I think that this app is amazing and it deserves all the fame that it gets. This app would get a BAJILLIGAZILLION stars but you can’t do much without Premium which is super overpriced. You can play against bots and people and do puzzles and stuff, but there’s a daily limit on how many puzzles you can do without Premium which is my main reason for giving this 4 stars instead of a BAJILLIGAZILLION. Nonetheless I think that if you get this app you will truly enjoy it and lots of famous people use it and it really helped me learn more about chess. I just think that if they cared less about profit and more about customer service then this would be a better app. Also you can only analyze one game per day and if you mess up on a puzzle then you can’t get your rating back up because of the limited puzzles that I mentioned earlier. I think that everyone would get a better chess experience if you just changed this.

FALSELY Banned. I have been playing on this app religiously for over a year now! I was pretty bad at first. Got my blitz rating down to the low 300’s (not that I’ve never played, just hadn’t in a while and lost a grasp for the game) and have been building my account up game by game for over a year! I was almost at a rating of 800 when one user got livid at how bad I was beating him! He completely stopped playing and made me wait for the clock to run out to secure my win all the while messaging me insisting that I am cheating and he was going to report me! I obviously didn’t take him seriously because I assumed they’d look at the game and see we were playing at the same speed and his multiple blunders were the cause of this massacre as well as how could ONE ACCUSATION cause my account to be banned? Well guess what, the next morning MY ACCOUNT WAS BANNED! All of that hard work, achievements acquired, games I’ve learned from, just taken away from me without anyone reaching out, notifying me, and at least letting me say my side. I am completely dissatisfied and will let all of my friends who I recommended to this app to delete immediately for their unjust handling of this situation! You are really banning people on spot because of one accusation??? Really????? For the customer service rep reading this, I hope you look at all of my match history, All two thousand of them, and tell me I did anything different in that match than in any other match I won or lost! Please

Doesn’t teach just tells. The daily puzzles and game reports desperately need a back button. I spend so much time staring at puzzles trying to remember what piece was captured and there’s no value at all in showing the previous move in literally half a second and expecting us to be able to see what piece was captured. I don’t even have enough time to focus my eyes before you make the move for the puzzles and same thing with the game recap. It needs a back button so I can look at what move was actually made. And you need to fix the alignment on the notations because I have to scroll to the right to see the check and check mate symbols. Simple fixes but it’s why I canceled my membership. Telling me what the best move is in the game report is fine but if you don’t tell me WHY it does NOTHING to actually make me better!!! I switched to Magnus trainer and dr wolf for better explanations. This app taught me how pieces move and how to castle but that’s it. I literally could not checkmate someone until I downloaded Magnus trainer lol. You also can’t replay the key moments and they move way too fast so when you show me I made the best response to a mistake for example I can never see what my opponent did first because it moves too fast and I can’t go back to previous key moments.

Good, but sometimes feels like a scam. Personally, this app is really great! My only issue is the limitations set when you don't pay. Especially for younger users that don’t make money and their parents don’t spoil them, such as myself, using the app can really only use it for such time. For example, I’m only rated 300 on rapid games, and its very hard to learn something when you only have a few lessons every week. Usually this is my go-to app whenever I am bored, and it’s a good place to relax and chill. But whenever the pop-up comes up saying, “Upgrade to diamond,” it really annoys me. If this was resolved in some way, it would be 5 stars. Edit: One request I has to do with the Pass & Play. The problem is the fact that you have to flip the board other than just playing with the board like a real chess board. If two opposing players were using this(such as myself) then it would be nice if the board was in both directions so that both players can see their pieces clearly. You know what I’m saying?

Your app instills frustration, not enthusiasm. I have come to hate this app and can hardly wait for the expiration of my membership. I have spen untold hours working your puzzles in what I hoped would be a way to improve my playing as a novice. Instead, it is clear that your algorithm is set up to break a beginner’s spirit. Rpt on, f I have a few successes, I can count on getting problems a that are several orders of magnitude beyond my capabilities. Even worse, if I can’t get the correct answer, you deduct 3 or 4 times as many points as you give for correct answers on puzzles that involve multiple moves. For example you will deduct13-15 points for a wrong answer when the correct solution involves 4 or 5 moves, none of which is apparent to a beginner. It just leads to frustration, which appears to be the goal. And why do you give no credit if I don’t get the first move right but to then get the solution, which may require my correctly figuring out 2 or 3 or more additional moves. It is well-established that people learn faster when they are rewarded for what they do right, not punished for mistakes on problems beyond their level of competence.

Great app, would add one thing though. I’ve never really played chess and am very bad at it, but this is a good application if you are looking to learn. It has lessons (some free ones to learn how the pieces move and paid ones that I haven’t looked at as it is a little too pricey) and you are able to select how long you want the game to be. One problem I continually have is running out of time during the games. Though this is clearly my problem and not the application’s, I’ve also been in quite a few games where my opponent has also not been keeping an eye on the clock and time just expires. I suggest adding a vibration, similar to the standard vibration from moving a piece when certain time intervals are reached such as every minute. I would add this to the settings if there is worry many users would not like this change. Anyways, love the app, great job to those who created and maintain it. Take care to anyone who reads this review.

App does not show the entire screen on iPhone.. I’ve set the display to normal and not zoomed. I still can’t set the last file or the check box to insert a move. It is useless on an iPhone and almost certainly an issue with the app not the iPhone iOS. Also some of the puzzles have more than one solution and you get knock down many points for choosing the best solution. There needs to be a way to submit correction and get those points back. I got a response from the de eloped stating it was the zoom setting on my iOS. That was the first thing I checked and it had no effect on the functioning of the app. I poured over al the online comments and tried everything I could find on the topic, including reviewing many other settings. The iPhone app does not work and I do not think it related to IOS. My hunch is it’s a problem with the app. Which is unfortunate because I can’t bring my iPad or desktop or laptop with me everywhere. I can typically bring my phone. Fortunately the puzzles are sized right. Even those have a problem on the small screen as I hit the wrong button and it skips to the next puzzle and does not allow you to return to the one you were working on.

A great alternative game site when your friends are to busy.. I enjoy playing blitz and rapid chess games with this App. I find it a wonderful source of spacial cognitive ability enhancement. The news and articles by Peter Doggers are well written and timely. You play against chess players from many different countries. The tactics training is fun and if you upgrade you receive extra features. Lessons are available and charts and statistics show your progress. I play tournament chess at the West Valley Chess Club. Our members use computers to train and analyse the games. By playing many bullet games Online games I was able to achieve the 1st place of the Chaba Mehes memorial tournament. My ability to calculate quickly helped me defeat my rivals. Developing an opening strategy with online chess is another benefit. You can pick your favorite player and watch live games. Whether you are an amateur or considering becoming a professional, this App will be a great resource.

Lots of features but not able to give feedback. Hi there, been playing on the app for about a month and started to really like it so looked at the memberships and there’s 3 levels ... $30, $50, and $80 (I believe) for a year, provided you pay upfront and not month by month. I was like ok I get it... there’s lots of features so you have to pay for more of them. Well that’s all good, I get that. My main issue is with the puzzles that sometimes the “opponent” player doesn’t make the best move so you can’t actually solve the puzzle correctly unless you guess they will do the wrong thing. Solved a puzzle today and I would’ve gotten it right however the opponent made the worse move of their two moves and thereby I made the wrong move because I predicted the opponent would obviously make the best move. Please creators/admins fix this issue. It’s really not the way the puzzles should function. If you fix this I will gladly change my rating to 5 stars since that’s my main issues. Also I couldn’t find anywhere in the app to report this. But secondly to advertise their “videos” to watch to learn and improve in a notification or have it ever present on the main menu is really annoying when you can’t even watch the whole video because you don’t have the most expensive membership. I don’t like that. Just an annoying paywall situation where I already paid for the app.

Designed to support unfair play. Deleting reviews?. I’ve written a review for this app a half dozen times. I make sure it’s there after submitting. The reviews are always gone every time I come back to check it days or weeks or months later. Every single time. Allows people to switch to premoves in the middle of a game which means that when someone is losing, they can just switch to premoves and run out the clock by moving back and forth. It’s pathetic. You’ll be winning with literally three times the time remaining and you’ll run out first. Because connection to their server is so poor (on iPhone, Google phone, laptops, desktops, using wi-fi, hardline, or cellular data) you make a move, then your opponent moves and you watch their clock jump up while yours drops. Routinely places pieces in the tile adjacent to the one I click (again, on multiple devices. I’m not just fatfingering it). I often randomly lose connection in the middle of a game and lose “due to abandonment” but conveniently only the games I’m winning. Still not a single issue resolved. And now they seem to completely ignore cheating. People will make absolutely awful moves all fake until it really counts, then they suddenly take an unusual amount of time to plan out a near-perfect string of moves that leads to victory. Support used to go after people like this and adjust players’ ratings who had lost to them. Not anymore. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Toxic players. False reporting and hard to contact support. I find this less toxic than the League of Legends community (but nothing is that toxic). Player will quit while you are in a timed game and waste time from your life. They will dock you points and put you on a list if you quit before the time runs out. Support has next to zero communication and they hide the ability to contact them pretty deep in the menus. So many people will quit. I am sure it is 25-30% of players that I have played against quit. Then you are stuck. And sometimes it shows that they quit and about 30% of the times that they quit it will automatically move it to an abandoned game state and May or may not award you the points. There are glitches. Freezes. And sometimes you can get stuck in an infinite loop - you may need to close the app entirely. Oh-and people have cheated against me during a game in several ways. They have claimed to have taken care of about 10-20% of those players but I highly doubt it. Very likely the game is only patrolled by automated software. Good luck getting a real person to check out an issue. I would rate it lower but I have had some fun games with friends. If “millions” of people play this like they say then they should put some money back into the game and fix some of the issues.

Good for playing but a lot of glitches. This app is good to play as long as you don't mind the glitches and don't care about your score and ranking that show in your statistics. The app will freeze and randomly close on a frequent basis, sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries to send a move, the chat boxes only send messages half the time and the other half, they just disappear into the atmosphere never to be seen again. Also, if you’re joining the app to improve your chess skills, progressively get better and win more games and then play higher ranked players, your rating may or may not go up so the app will only match you with lower ranked players when you select to play a random person instead of a friend. Mine dropped when i started playing back in june and hasn’t changed since, regardless of how much i play (daily), how much I’ve improved (a lot) or how many games I've won (like i said, I’ve improved) and even when I’ve won against higher ranked players, (at this point that’s everyone i play, even when I've beat them 6-0 like i did my sister). I’ll leave it at that. Best wishes and kind regards.

Good but a few problems. I enjoyed this for the first couple of hours I had it installed. I made an account so I could access some of the features that you aren’t given off the bat. After spending a couple of hours playing against the computers, I got to one I had trouble beating. I decided I should look at some of the lessons that were recommended to me. After finishing the first lessons, I was about to start the next but was stopped because I had to pay to do more than one per day. I understand that the app is free and normal chess lessons aren’t, but I wish you could have more lessons per day. I ran into the trouble of taking one lesson and then trying against the computer, only to fail again. So I would then wait a day to start the next lesson, only to realize I didn’t remember anything I was taught from the previous lesson, and I wasn’t improving. My suggestion is that the one per day increases to three per day. This would allow people to take multiple lessons in succession, and they could then practice what they learned from the lessons against a computer. Beside the one per day limit, I had fun and might install it again eventually.

App is good but missing some features. This app works well (most of the time). There are some oversights in design though. There is no way to control piece speed. I play on my iPad, and the piece movement animations are a bit slow - there should be an option to adjust the speed to move faster or slower. Additionally, when using an iPad + keyboard, the keyboard does not function at all. If I want to step through a game that I played using the arrow keys on my keyboard, this is currently not possible. Another helpful feature might be to add zen mode (hide player ratings, move-list, most unnecessary clutter from the UI when playing an online game). Additionally - I just found a bug that crashes the app: if you try to scroll through the move list (using left / right arrows in the UI) while a modal window (such as you winning an online game) is overlaying the screen - the app will crash after a few moves are scrolled through. (This is on iPad Pro running iOS 13.3.1).

This app is like Duolingo for chess. After using this app for free for a few months, and slowly poking around and seeing how much it has to offer, I feel compelled to leave a review, both to congratulate the developers and to encourage others to use this app. Whether you are a lifelong chess player or just somebody who binged The Queen’s Gambit and wants to give chess a try, this app is well worth your time. This amount of content is astounding, so in addition to playing as much chess as you want with people from all over the world, you suddenly have access to a gazillion ways to learn and improve your game. Videos, drills, and lots more. I can’t believe how much I’ve used this app, and that I have really just scratched the surface, and that it has all been for free (so far… I’m feeling a bit guilty, and I’m going to actually start paying for it). I wish all apps or based on this model. This is like Duolingo for chess.

it’s okay to invest some time into it for the money asked for. the app hasn’t had any advanced fewtures for a long time. compared to the web version this Is very poor. would really appreciate showing the best moves on the board in analysis with arrows similar to the one on the web. I don’t think this feature is hard to add, it doesn’t need more that 2 days of work. plus I don’t understand the feature in the analysis where if I play different moves, the alternate games are inserted inside the same log. its impossible to read or to find where I am or was. SPECIALLY when I press on the wrong tiny font by mistake. and why would you even have the ‘pressable’ log and the forward and back buttons so close to eachother. there is always a missclick and the experience becomes very bad. being the most known chess app i’m sure you can put some effort and do something better honestly. retry button next to ‘next’ button in puzzles, very smart, and noway to go back. the puzzles goes to jupiter and i’ll never get to analyze it

Checkmate!. I’ve been using this Chess app for about three or four years. It has a lot of additional features like tactics puzzles, videos, and preset predicaments to challenge you and help you set up future moves to create the best situation for your pieces. There is also a play-by-play review of your games which critiques your moves and tells you what you could’ve done better. A couple things that need improvement though. Often the app will fail to notify me when it’s my turn after my opponent has moved, requiring me to open the app and navigate to my active games to manually check if it is my turn. The other issue is that sometimes I will try to start a new game with a friend with the “Play A Friend” option and the app opens the “active connection countdown” when I’m not trying to play a live game. I’m sure there is a way to create a new game with a friend without creating an active challenge, but I am not sure how. If this feature exists, it just needs to be integrated in an easy to find menu. (This review is based on my use from a Samsung Galaxy S5). EDIT: I have an iPhone X now and I am able to successfully use the “Play A Friend” option to create a daily game without the app opening the “Active Connection Countdown” so the issue I stated previously may already be resolved.

Teaches chess at any level. The only obstacles are your focus and critical thinking.. This app is by far the most comprehensive tool for learning and playing chess. Big thanks to the entire team that designed this platform and keep it going. You have all collectively created the GOAT chess app. I would also like to offer a little bit of feedback. In the game analysis portal, the user interface is a little confusing and difficult to navigate. Particularly how the moves are listed and the computer move(or suggestion) is listed in parentheses directly in front and of your move. It was not originally very clear how to further explore the succession of moves predicted by the computer following a suggested move where the analysis identified a blunder. It would also be amazing to have the option to play the rest of the game out from that suggested move against a rated computer of your choice. Thanks again, You all are awesome

This App is rigged. This App is rigged beyond repair. All I’m trying to do is play a game of Chess and improve my game. However, is App is doing anything and everything in its power to prevent me from doing so. Everything from the scoring system to who you play and what you can do within the app is completely manipulated and designed to keep you from acquiring point. For example, I just lose 10 points for trying to abort a game against someone who had 100 points less than me??? And the other day I lost 12 points for trying to abort a game with someone who had 200 points than me??? This doesn’t make any sense. Because I know that if I lose against someone with 100 points less then me then I lose a lot more points. I love the idea of being able to play against people from all over the world but all the games that this app plays and all the ways it tries to keep you from improving is just absolute rubbish.

Great app, some mistakes with the lessons. To start, if you are looking for a chess tutor, look no further. This app is extensive with the lessons, analysis and game reports. I love that feature. There is only two drawbacks which is why I gave it four stars. One, in one, maybe two lessons they moved a pawn backwards and made you attack the pawn. Pawns don’t move backwards so this lesson is unrealistic. When you want to actually learn chess you need as many realistic examples to not confuse yourself. Hopefully, the devs review and replace this portion of the lesson. Next, it may be unfair but it would be great to know at least what and when the opponent had a “missed win” in the game analysis. You can see your mistakes, best options, and best moves made, but nothing to learn from the opposing side. Since we pay extra if this feature was included it would give you a bigger picture. Overall everything else is great. A few glitches here and there. But it is highly addictive so make sure you are not multitasking because you can get caught up quick! I decided to keep the monthly subscription because there is a lot to explore at the moment. Hopefully, I. an come back with a five star review if these small issues get fixed!

Overall ok. For the most part, this is OK. I do enjoy the daily puzzles, however sometimes they are just flat out wrong. I would say about one out of every 10 puzzle (recently more) is the wrong solution, and it is frustrating to lose points when you know that the recommended move is so obviously not the right move. Additionally, the hint button is absolutely useless. If I just accidentally touch it even though I didn’t mean to, I immediately lose all the points. What is the point of having a hint option if I can just as well make the wrong move and lose just as many points? Since using the hint provides partial solution, doesn’t it make sense that only partial points are lost? I would also recommend to the developers to add a confirmation prompt to the hint button to avoid these accidental frustrations. I had considered signing up for the paid version of the app, but these glitches have stopped me from doing so. These are all minor fixes to make a very good and capable app even better. I really hope the developers take this feedback seriously and consider improving their app.

Need fixes and updates. Sometimes the app kicks me out telling me I can't connect but I have a really good internet connection, or sometimes when I log it times me out as well they need to fix those issues, for the updates I my self in a team can not access the team posts and matches stats us VS other teams unless if our team post something that way I get access to the team posts and I go throw some times I would like to see how our team doing in the leagues and have to wait for that post to do so, you could just add on the menu "team posts" or something that will lead us to the team forum for those 3 reasons I'm giving a single star till the update occurs and those issues fixed I will change it based on that. Edit: the app has come along with many improvements and features, it has been running very smoothly, would love them to add “the conditional moves” to the app and as well as our matches vs. “xxxx” to show the match tournament team we playing against, and access it to check the team scores.

Chess skills and understanding already improved! 4 1/2 stars. I’ve been a VERY casual chess player thru the years, but never had a real grasp on the theories or strategies for playing. This app, in a very short time, has improved my game and my ability to think further ahead than just the next 1 or 2 moves like I did in the past. It is loaded with things to do, watch, and learn and I’m really getting into playing chess again. I’m getting decent wins against the computer that I would have lost before using this app. My only real complaint is, the after game analysis doesn’t explain WHY a different move would have been better, or WHY this move was a blunder. Some times its obvious, like I lost a queen bcuz I got too focused on a different piece. But frequently, it will suggest the best move was a sacrifice in order to move another into play. A quick example: had a knight in danger of being captured. Moved up a pawn to protect. After game analysis said the better move would have been to push up my other knight instead. But the other knight position would not protect my endangered knight nor would it threaten any other enemy piece. So as a relative chess beginner, I need more information on why this recommended move was a better choice... That small issue aside, it’s a great app. I’m enjoying enough that I subscribed and excited to increase my knowledge and understanding of chess.

If I could change the app for a day.... The first thing I would do is make a way for mobile players to make multiple premoves at a time, this is especially important in bullet and time crunches. I don't see why this can't be added to mobile because it gives a slight edge to computer players. Second, I would make it more clear how to become friends with someone you meet in real life on the app... usually takes me about 5 minutes of fumbling around with the interface before I can figure it out. I would also make a deep-focus mode within the focus mode. If you go into the focus mode, it still shows several tabs and other things, like previous moves etc. but I think there should be another level of focus, where the entire screen is consumed by the board and the clocks. Also, before I paid for premium, it annoyed me having to switch over to lichess to get infinite puzzles. I would take infinite puzzles out from behind the paywall and just add more new features behind it. Thanks for the app, keep improving!

Social upgrade & Design simplification (NEEDED). I want to offer simple design improvements that would engage users to a whole other level. This is so far a chess app / website that allows you to just play chess but severely lacks an actual chess community to the degree in which I see its potential. We want to find professional players / engage and keep up with chess news. People don’t want to read articles that’s boring. When I go to a professional chess players page all I see is comment spam from random people and no actual comments or video updates from the chess player them self. It needs to have Facebook comment design prioritizing the users comments at the top and then the most like comments after. They should also be able to add photos that could be commented on and liked. Secondly there are SO MANY sections that are not grouped up accordingly. People love simplicity. There should be a (Play) (Learn) (Watch) (News). Instead, all the categories that should be located inside each drop box are scattered outside these categories and are extremely ugly and overwhelming. Besides that to somehow promote twitch engagement would be huge and lastly, getting borders for your advertisements would help you look like s more high quality website. I just love chess so much and this app. I want this app to be successful and the chess community to grow.

Overall, an Amazing App. I want to start off by saying that I love this app. I have been using it for more than a year now and I must say that out of the apps that I have on my phone currently, this app is probably the one I have used the most, and will stay on my phone for many years to come. There are many cool features, most of which I use. There is anything from tactical puzzles to dazzle and baffle your mind and make you become a player, to daily puzzles and tournaments you can join. However, there is one thing that I would add. On the website, you can join or leave clubs as you please, but the app itself won’t let you unless it prompts you with it. I found this really annoying when I spent over half an hour trying to figure out and look up how to leave a club that I lost interest in. If you could please add this, then it would be much easier. Overall, an amazing app.

The infinite loading screen. I love this app and everything about it! But, during a game, the timer stopped ticking and everything stopped working properly. I couldn’t click out of the match and my pieces could be moved around leaving behind a red trail and taking any piece it landed on. Even my own pieces. I was left alone stuck on a broken match playing around with my pieces. I tried to reload the app and when I opened it, all I got was a never ending loading screen. I tried updating my phone: didn’t work. I tried resetting my phone: didn’t work. I tried logging in on the website: didn’t work. I tried activating my email: didn’t work. I tried updating the app: didn’t work. My friend has has this same issue over and over and the ONLY way that he can get it to work again is by DELETING the app and redownloading it. Due to parental restrictions I cannot delete apps so I can’t fix it. This needs to be fixed!!! I have a time limit on my search engine so I thought I would be able to play more if I got the app. Please fix this as soon as you can. There are lots of other people with this repetitive issue and deleting and redownloading the app shouldn’t be the only solution. I am on an Apple iOS device. It is fairly new and up to date.

Great for chess, slacking on extras. This app is great for the chess. The paid version is nice as well with the unlimited puzzles, lessons and game analysis. However I am using an IPhone 13 mini, which is a relatively new phone. The themes are in need of updating. I have always used the cosmos one but today I was thinking of changing it up. I considered two other themes, the graffiti one that has the graffiti guy character, and the lolz one that looks like a cat with a hat on. Both are horrible and need fixing. On both of them I couldn’t see most of the graphic which is the main part of the theme. On the graffiti theme I could only see the characters right hand. Nothing else besides part of his arm, oh wow what a cool theme. For the lolz theme, I could only see the furthest right edge of the cat. Only enough to make out the color of the cat, definitely couldn't tell it was a cat. So basically it’d be cool if in the very least you would fix the themes to actually look nice with all the phones, should be as simple as resetting the size of the background image based on which phone is being used. I would love to see more updated themes as well but it’s a side feature so I don’t expect much. But atleast get the themes you do offer working properly for all phones. Come on!

BEST CHESS EVER!!!!. I had started playing chess around three years ago, but stopped playing after a while because me sister wouldn’t have time for it anymore. I also didn’t know all the weird stuff or the stuff that is secluded, like castling, stalemate and the difference between check and checkmate. And so I gave up on chess. But three years later, in 7th grade we had a chess tournament in our contest math class. I was very unpleased and upset to have found out that I lost in the second round! I watched the finals match, and watched one of my good friends get bashed and checkmated in around five to six maybe seven minutes. At that moment, I wanted to be like that guy who defeated my friend so badly. So I started forcing my sister to play chess with me. But however at one point she got tired of it. So then I had to find a good chess app or website to play on. After lots of asking people what the best chess apps are, I finally got this one!!! And I must say I love it! There is however, a minor issue. I found out there is now multiplayer! The other player must have an account and you have to invite them. Anyway, other than that, it’s all cool!!!

App needs help. Grandmasters play each other on this app so it must be very good or they are being compensated for using it. However there is no manual informing someone how to use the app. For instance, the app gives you a rating of 1400 for a variety of different types of chess formats even though you have never played these formats since the app doesn’t describe how one would engage that facility on the app. The Lessons are helpful but have misleading explanations that do more to direct you to the wrong answer than teach you. The app’s Puzzles are challenging but there are other longer “solutions” to the puzzles that you will not be credited with. Plus, you have to solve perhaps six puzzles to make up for one misstep since you earn much less for a solution than you get docked for a failure to solve. It’s like treading water; you never get anywhere. A few solutions require that the losing side of the board make a bonehead move. Therefore I mostly use this app to play against the computer that can be adjusted to various levels of competency.

New found respect. Original review: 1 star Gotta say I wasn’t a fan. In my last game before I decided to uninstall, instead of giving me a victory it decided on a stalemate-draw (which was impossible). The opponent only had 5 pieces left: 3 pawns, 1 knight, and the king. I had him in a situation where he could not move his pawns because they were all blocked, nor could he move his king/knight without placing himself in checkmate. Either my castle, my queen, or my knight would have the victory. But instead of checkmate in my favor, it decided on a draw. Edit to review: 5 stars Gotta admit when I am wrong. I did not know that stalemate also applied to not allowing the opponent to move. I thought that if I trapped their king and placed them in a situation to where they couldn’t make a move without being in checkmate then I would be awarded the victory. I appreciate the response to my review. I’ll definitely both reinstall the app and change the review.

Long time user, always enjoyed!. Upgraded to be a premium user (platinum) after being a free user for years, and have always been very satisfied overall. Seen lots of bug fixes over time, which is great. Enjoyed watching the development of new strategies of catching and punishing cheaters. I’ve had fun with the community and am now an admin of a chess group. If you enjoy chess, this is one of the slickest websites out there. The app is very good, but disappoints slightly—I wish there was a bit more done to round out some of the edges, such as more/better functionality for groups/administration and forums, and I wish *regularly* for the conditional move system. You can always visit the desktop website for that stuff, but I miss it a lot on mobile and I can’t fully bring myself to give five stars until at least that stuff is in. (Glad it doesn’t appear to be interrupting my music/podcasts anymore!)

Preferred chess platform. Loved chess my whole life but never found the appropriate outlet to get into for it (life and its trials and all) then my buddy recommended this after trying several other, less than pleasing, apps. This is probably the only platform other than streaming/consoles that I’d willingly pay this much for membership. You might think that’s laughable but take a few minutes to browse everything you can in the app. It has full game analysis for matches you won/lost to help improve. You can even review your opponent’s play style to better combat them in the future. There’s a plethora of guides, videos and teaching services that can help any newcomer. There’s daily puzzles and a few other versions like speed chess. There seem to be live matches from pros and champs around the world every few days. Instead of just playing an “npc” head over to the playable computers to play an npc that fits your style or your expertise, there’s a lot to choose from. I haven’t even scratched the surface of the capabilities of this app and that’s saying something cause they have it on their main site as well and I’m sure it’s much more in depth on a pc versus a phone. Definitely worth a try if you find it!!

Website is significantly better. Don’t get me wrong, the app is still really good. It’s easy to use and very customizable. However, given the choice, I’d play on the website instead of the app, ten times out of ten. It takes a full second or two for a move to process and for it to get to the opponent’s turn, so in that turn alone I’ve wasted precious time that could have been used for another time. This is a very bad disadvantage for bullet players like me, and even if you use premoves, they still take some time to process. And on that note, premoves also need a lot of work. Basically, my complaint about them is that I can only have one at a time. Like, come on. I see a mate in three with 4 seconds on the clock, and I lose to time because I can’t premove more than one move in advance, and they still take a second or two to process anyway. Other than that, this is a great app to get people into chess and teach problem the game, and it’s very well-made. 3/5 app :)

Mostly good but one annoying glitch. The abandonment feature frequently forfeits games just because you access another app on your phone. This just happened to me with less than 20 seconds away from the game. It’s really frustrating when you are winning a game and you pause a movie only to come back and find the game forfeited. Fix this glitch and it would be a 5 star review. Really abandonment is a bad feature in a timed game. The rules of the game allow a player the entire time on the clock. Sure, it’s a jerk move to walk away from a game and make your opponent wait it out, but ratings shouldn’t change because of lost connections. Edit: the abandonment feature has a bug. It frequently forfeits games instantly just because I check a text or email. I’m almost always playing long time format games. I almost exclusively play 15/10. I see several other reviews with the same complaint. Fix the bug. Make the rules clearly defined. At the very least there should be a set amount of time that triggers the abandonment feature and it should be easy to look up what this time is. Currently checking a text will instantly trigger abandonment. That definitely is not the way the app should work.

Join-to-Play Ware / Bug Ridden with No Report Options. This is basically a “join our site/email spam generator” app that has almost everything hidden behind a join/pay wall. What a joke. Why would exercises, puzzles, game modes, etc. _need_ me to join some random site and get spammed with emails from, in order to function? Hint: it does not. This is basically a mailing subscription grabber that is likely to sell your email and/or spam you. The UI also very frustrating as well seeing how this is not a native app and looks like a web wrapper for their site. The app has loads of bugs and many still exist in the app with no way to report them to the developers and they have such a convoluted UI that doesn’t offer any help for looking where to even report the bugs. The best bug I came across was it just allowing pawns to move diagonally without capturing a piece (a basic rule and requirement that should never have been a bug in the first place). This is such a low quality, cheap e-mail grabber app that put no effort into actually designing a high quality, bug free chess app but rather a dirty “register to use” model for a website-as-an-app loaded with bugs. Horrible.

Mobile app has some tracking issues. When playing online I’ve noticed my pieces don’t always land where I placed them which is a big problem. I think there should be a move confirm perhaps just limited to adjacent squares as to not give a take back but someway to confirm where the piece is was where it was intended. It’s really frustrating to place a solid game but have it all blow up because of a glitch in the game another issue is player ghost accounts I am not a great player only in the low 700s so when I am playing against someone of about the same rank I don’t expect to be completely smoked in 3 minutes but it occasionally happens and I can’t imagine that player is truly that rank. I’m not being whiny about loses I can accept losing when I think the game was fairly played but a glitch or a 1000 plus player using a “new” account to work out frustrations isn’t my idea of fun. I don’t know how to stop people from doing it but for now I don’t bother with online play in this app.

Great way to learn. This app is fantastic in the way he teaches Chess. How your able to choose your learning path to further your knowledge or increase your repertoire of checkmates as well as understanding tactics. It gives a very comprehensive and detailed structured lesson accompanying it with hands on practice and doing what was just taught, to help you remember more easily. I took away the one star because I don’t like how when you move a piece a big alert banner comes up saying mistake or blunder and adding pressure negatively but more over could be wrong to display it do to not seeing the overall plan unfolding. I think it should only pop up and tell you possible mistakes if you choose to have the overall game analyzed. Great app make it cheaper for club members or something too and perhaps add geo local for clubs sanctioned or provide info for ppl whom want to become rated or learn how to become a master etc, in your local areas?

Annoying cheaters and petty people. I have made many account over the pass year and a half, I have came across many petty players who would wait 10 minutes to lose on time then give in on a checkmate. I have had a problem like this since I started playing I would like someone to input some rules where I don’t have to wait a whole week for some random due across the world to play his one move and forget about it for the next 7 days because he can’t win a pixel game. I also hate player who lose and ask for a rematch with cheats on. With more player joining chess now a-days I found people who create Alts to boost there Elo. This was the same thing a friend of my did he when from 373 Elo all the way to 1400 in less then a week. It took me more then a full year yo push all the way to 900 Elo. Also thanks to all the mods who help ban cheaters. Thanks you for reading this. -Berry

Good app but filled with bugs on basic games. Overall it’s a good app, but for the biggest chess app in the world, there should not be several bugs especially for small and basic things. The biggest and most frustrating bug is around offering and receiving rematches with opponents. When you receive a rematch request, it literally flashes on the screen for a split second, then disappears. If you don’t catch it in that split second time, you can’t accept the rematch. You can try offering a rematch yourself, but the opponent is either already gone or it flashes for a split second on their screen too. This happens for the paid or non-paid version, and just on any timed game, so it’s across the board. It’s extremely frustrating when you are in good games with an opponent and the app doesn’t have the function to let you keep playing. For an app so big, something so basic should not be happening and is enough to make me want to move to a competitor like LiChess instead.

Fun but frustrating because it’s rigged. Whenever I hit 7-10 wins in a row against players with 40-60 points better than me, they force me to play black in the next 5 games against players rated 100+ points better than me. Come on guys, play fair. I know we gotta play players better than us to rank up, but it’s just stupidly unfair to do that. So every time I go on a win streak, after about 7-10 wins, they set me up against players I have no chance with. You’re screwing up the beautiful game of chess and I won’t stand for it. Your system is flawed and I desperately hope you fix it. Edit: they’ve been ignoring my review because they know they’re wrong for what they do. I made it to over 1000 AGAIN…then I “magically” started losing impossible games. You have bots on here and you know it. You’re ignorant if you think I’m losing these games because of skill. I’d be the first to admit I’m not the greatest at Chess, but explain how I can go from 1000 to 874 in a few days huh?? Explain that. Meanwhile I can compete in real life games with skilled players and sweep. Get your stupid bots off the game and quit rigging it period. Thank you

Why I can no longer support this app... I’ve been playing this app for years.. and in recent light of the decision to ban Hans Niemann for mistakes he made when he was a minor.. I am now resigning on this app and will play on Lichess or other secondary apps.. I found it Very suspicious that the timing of the ban had come on the heels of Magnus making that tweet and baseless allegation.. if your company felt the need to Ban the young man that decision should have come down the day the infractions were made.. to allow Magnus such sway over the career and destiny of such a youngster is beyond comprehension.. i know Magnus was upset over losing rating points to Hans on his 2900 quest, and doesn’t think Hans should even be allowed to play, but to allow his opinions to sway yours.. we’ll why can’t I do the same thing? I understand the kid made mistakes, but even Magnus himself has cheated in chess OTB on camera.. he has made illegal moves.. which constitutes cheating.. at least the kid is showing growth and owning his mistake, being completely transparent, and to level such accusations with no response in a smear campaign goes against the very core principles of chess.. sportsmanship and a sense of fair play.. anyways I’m sure no one in your organization cares about the opinions of a lone user.. unless it’s Magnus Carlson of course.. farewell and thank you for the games..

Caught computer player cheating. UPDATE: Man i feel dumb, sorry about the low review and comment, i had no idea about the move called ‘en passant’. When I researched this, I can’t believe I had never heard anything about it. Upgraded review to what it should be. 😃 OLD IGNORANT REVIEW: Was playing a challenging game with computer and smashing the opponent, until I witnessed it cheating. The section of play was: My white pawn at E3 blocking black pawn at E4. I moved a pawn from F2 to F4 (a two space movement) and the CPU took my pawn at F3. How the hell can it do that? That’s breaking a rule of Chess! As the game allows back and forth movement I recorded this action with onscreen video and find it quite bad that this would be allowed to occur to force a ‘challenging’ game to win with those sort of tactics despite the king being completely surrounded. It’s hard to take a game of chess seriously if it cheats to win a game. By the way, if one player has decimated a board/game leaving only the king, it’s not a draw!!

Brilliant. It is a great site to improve your chess, it helps you learn and keep up. You can also watch the best boys play aw well as the best people. The only thing is it can be a bit slow to load but that is understandable because running a big app like that with sooooooo many people must be hard!

Great game. I’ve been playing the free version. Not too many ads and you get access to a fair amount of content. There are features that you can only access once a day or week but you can pay to access more. Obviously as a free user I’d prefer more content more regularly, but I also understand the business needs to make money somehow.

Mobile experience stops it getting 5 stars. It’s a great app with loads of extras and a very slick design,. However the experience on the phone is a bit frustrating because it doesn’t put the games requiring moves at the top, even though they go to the top on tablet. If they fixed that I’d be giving it 5 stars.

I love it!. Best app ever, so many ways to train, upgrade to premium and you will literally be in chess heavens. There are sooo many beneficial features for you to use, unlimited puzzles, drills, lessons, analysis and endgames. Wonderful, I would strongly recommend it to anybody who is looking for a good way to train their chess skills. Diamond account is definitely worth its price!

Good game, one issue. So the game is fun, it teaches you the game and has lots of AIs with different play styles to help you learn, though there is one issue that really ruins the game for me. It often prematurely calls a stalemate. 2 minutes before writing this review, I had a game which I was winning. I had 2 queens, a castle and a bishop while the AI only had a king and pawn. When I was closing in about to get the checkmate, the game called stalemate. My king wasn’t in check, the AI wasn’t either yet. This should not have been a stalemate. This has happened in about 7 games for me so far. I would have rated 4 stars though to get so close to a win so many times just to have it snatched away like that brings it down to 2 stars for me. Also would like to say, there are a fair few in app purchases, but not too much of the game is locked behind them. There is a lot, but you can still have a good experience without spending money Edit: Not sure if this notifies the developer though in response to their response, the king was about to be in check, their pawn could move forwards and their king could still move left and right without going into check. All of my pieces could move at least 2 spaces (except king) as well so it wasn’t because mine were trapped. So according to what you stated in your response and the game conditions, that should still not have been a stalemate.

Revised review. I had previously had a lot of bad experiences with dropouts during timed games which caused me a great deal of frustration. It seems these problems for the most part have been resolved and therefore warrants a retraction of my earlier scathing review. I find the app to be a great tool for improving your game play and really love the live play against international opponents such a valuable resource that’s taken my game to another level with a wealth of puzzles and tournaments etc it’s the best chess app I’ve experienced and highly recommend. I am happy to take up another subscription as you have obviously listened and addressed my concerns Great job to all

Inconsistent with challenges and games.. I hit 1200 on so many occasions then loose over a 100 points on your rating system so quickly. This morning I made a move which cost me 12 points and considered it the move wrong, I decided since I had lost this challenge I would try again and use the hint and blow and behold the app decides to move my Queen to the same point in which I lost 12 points. The next challenge I won with 3 moves and scored a magical 3 points. Wow. As they say, and I don’t particularly like the saying, but “ there is more than one way to skin a cat.” I think outside the box and loose. Love the game but I often end up with stalemate just before the next move is checkmate as many have commented. Great game and love it, but can be frustrating with a few glitches.

Great app. This is the best chess app i have had so far. My only issue is when we try to access the lessons we have already completed it won’t allow us to re do that lesson. We have to wait for a day. I get that there is a membership thing where you get all the lessons unlocked but even so the ones players have already done should be accessible for them should they want to revise it in the future. Fix that and it will be a 5 star rating.

Unusable and shady business practices, there are better alternatives. You can not play 1 minute games because their clock is extremely inaccurate. You are much better off using lichess because their clocks are accurate. Also they will auto-charge you if you sign up without you even opting in for it. They wont even give you a notification in advance that they plan on charging for a new subscription. Now I have to reverse the charges and I have already lost money on foreign exchange fees that my bank has applied. I wont get back these fees back because of their own shady business practices. They are clearly in it for the money and not for the community. Go to lichess which is completely free, community driven and better playing experience.

No longer working on iOS (updated). Used to use this app all the time. A couple of years away and I try to use it on iPhone XS iOS 15.4.1 and board not fully showing on screen and it doesn’t accept my first move. Search shows this problem appeared a year ago. **thanks for developer support. I’ve amended the review as they are working to resolve and given a temporary fix.

Glitches. They are a lot off good features but the tournament section is above annoying. It’s not user friendly and it’s no good way of navigating around while in a tournament. You check your analysis during a ongoing live tournament and if the game starts while you in analysis you can’t get back in to the tournament. It’s just so many glitches in general and with these many players it feels like you should develop the platform instead of adding new features. I’ve been playing for years and I appreciate the app but sometimes it just annoys me so much

Decent app but bugs out badly. Overall it’s decent. The app absolutely freaks out if you happen to open it in a place with bad reception though. The old versions didn’t do this but the recent update has started this issue. If I open the app in certain rooms in my house the app stalls while it tries to login. Then even if I walk back out to an area with good reception, the app is now completely frozen and I have to restart my phone to get it running again. This app has a huge userbase so I would have thought their tech team would be on top of a major issue like this.

Too slow to pair. I was paying monthly to use the app. I am cancelling because I don’t like how long it takes to connect for bullet games. I know it’s only 10-20 seconds, Busch lichess connects in 1-2 seconds, when an average bullet game goes for about 1 minute, that’s 10 times more waiting idle on chess dot com app! Annoying and should be fixed, no excuses for that. I’ll try again in the future to see if it’s fixed because I do prefer chess dot com app.

Accidentally left 7 day trial running - no regrets. This app has many many great features. The free version is adequate for new players and has some great analysis features available to test or use yourself. The paid version provides even more features and is amazing for anyone wanting to learn more. So much all on the one app.

way worse than on pc and lichess app. where’s the dots to make it clear where you can move. it’s hard as hell to see on a small screen already why make it harder. can’t even send feedback through the app despite being able to access the article that tells you how to do so... on pc. only reason i’ve ever written an app store review UPDATE: the proposed solution to see dots doesn’t work unless it’s your turn - literally half the time, unlike on pc. Also newly experienced random bug where people can abandon or leave and the game ends but you’re stuck watching their timer tick down to 0. leaving the app and reopening shows the game in your game history with the ambiguous “Black Wins” no indication of how you won and the timer showing them leaving way earlier.

Great app, occasionally it cheats :). Really enjoyable, like the levels and different modes. Occasionally the app cheats - when you move a pawn from row 2 to row 4 and there’s a piece in position to take it on row 3, it takes the piece. Replaying the move you can see the pawn moved to row 4 and should be safe. It’s happened a few times. But I was going to lose anyway.

No opening. No way to contact them easily and puzzles next Botton…. No way to contact them easily and puzzles next Botton should be available after the solution so we won’t go without solution accidentally. And chess Openings analysis between solo chess and drills in iPad version; Not available but pay for it? No Challenge limitations is 4 times then try later? Even if you want to play with the player and another player wants to play too? Crazy. I didn’t even play the game in white pieces but in my game history as lost recorded. Totally crazy. When you customised above 2500 rating and in one move to checkmate category; only few games. You can not rematch after 4th then my account is restricted then I can not play again with the same player to improve my skills. Really worst sportsmanship? No. Totally Crazy because I al looking for 10 minutes game but while I am looking for it and I canceled it but still I lost the game without playing it and seeing the pieces.

Great app but also agree about time wasters. Also agree about the time wasters comment. Big fan of this app and it’s deserving of 5 stars, still think it needs to deal with time wasters as well. I’ve been in a couple of team and individual comps now where I’ve had to wait literally months for players, usually who have only played for a few months, go on break and hold the whole thing up. This is a very smart app and needs to be smart enough to avoid this situation.

IPhone 15 pro bug - fixed. Edit - thanks for the help Dev team. It works again! This app worked perfectly in my iPhone 14 but I upgraded to the 15 pro and now when I select a piece to move, I don't get the little grey dots on the board showing my available moves. Please fix this issue

Game abandonment. Great game and features but there is an issue / cheating thing happening. What happens is I’m playing a game and comfortably winning ( up 12 material and 4 moves from mate ) when the game suddenly is aborted after 45+ moves, the game doesn't come up In my game log, and I get no rewards. This has happened multiple times and I’m getting frustrated and want to have some answers please. But on the positive side the game has amazing features such as self analysis and puzzles. Please help

Rubbish !!!. I find constant stalling etc ...There is no accuracy in this app I wouldn’t base anyone s chess rating according to this app !!! The lag has to be fixed and I find that when you are playing a player above 1700 when you re ahead on pieces or in an extremely good position you lose on time on most occasions ...and against a say 2000 plus rated player there seems to be a huge time advantage to that player particularly in bullet chess ,Is this coincidental or is it to do with internet speed I’m not sure but I VE played for a number of years and seen enough not to take any of it seriously including the rating system....you can never beat playing over the board !!!

Fantastic community for chess!. This app is perfect! A couple requests, maybe feature that you can turn on in settings before you start game, but to be able to pause the game if both players agree and it hides the board until you both unpause. Handy if you get an interruption why playing casually. And to have the chat box open when the board is there, so no need to hide the board to type a reply. Thanks guys

Great overall. Please improve the tactics rating system, I’ve seen tactics that add 1 point for success, and others that subtract up to 14 points for failure. It makes it frustratingly difficult to improve over time, my rating has crashed in a matter of days because of it, after trying to bring it up for almost a year. Thanks

player ridu100 for Egypt. Good very good I talk to people every where of the world. Too much fun. And I can play from one minute, 2 1/2 minute, to 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minute 1 day, 7 day . however I want good app no problems using app for 8 months. And it is free for everyone even people for 3rd world countries.

Great app, horrible management. The only problem I have with the app itself is how fantastically addictive it is, or at least the game of chess and the fact you can have a board in your pocket. The developers or managers of the app on the other hand did absolutely nothing the countless times I reported people for stalling games so long that I quit (to the detriment of my own rating because it’s counted as abandonment), or abusive opponents via chat when I won, or the suspected cheaters that mysteriously made zero mistakes dispute a mediocre rating. I deleted the app when my account stopped working without any explanation at all. Maybe I highlighted too many glitches and they were sick of me. Either way, I’m probably better off.

It’s good but just one question…. When I looked to download this app, and saw the preview, I saw that it said ‘Take Lessons from Masters’. I was excited. But when made an account and looked through the menu, I couldn’t see any thing with lessons from masters. Even the lessons section doesn’t have it! I’m not sure though as I haven’t become a member yet so I’m not sure if it’s because of that. Thank you!

Works with older iOS versions. I have the iPhone 6 and sadly I can't download many apps on the store but this app works very well on older phones! Anyhow, if you have an account doing tactics and daily puzzles is more easier and intuitive on the phone rather then PC, plus the mobility of it and all. If you love playing chess, this app is defiantly for you!

Time wasters. This is a very good site but it has one major problem, time wasters people who abandon games are never punished. Surely people who are clever enough to create a site as good as this ought to be able to create a system where time wasters and all other players get ratings for sportsmanship etc, where we ought to be able to look at the rating of people we play and rate them ourself. When we report a player we ought to be able to see what action has been taken and get a proper report back. Thank you S Bates Australia

Upgrade option broke. Great app and easy to use but after purchasing the upgraded account it says I have not. Re-purchasing says I already purchased. There is no button (that I can find) to restore an existing purchase so I don’t get any of the benefits. Please fix this or add a restore purchase button - it’s extremely frustrating … I want my unlimited puzzles 😅

Mon Soon with thanks. Great chess apps featuring reliability, variety, and depth of information for improving your chess skills. Plenty of opponents, and the search for them is very rapid. There is no pressure to go premium, but the services provided for free at the entry level certainly warrants it. A thumbs up to the developers for sharing such an enjoyable gift. Many thanks again.

Great app but need to change the daily puzzles back. I really love this app, it got me back into chess, but I don’t always have time to play. Which is why the daily puzzles are my favourite so I can do them when I have a couple minutes spare. However I don’t like the new update with the coach, hints and solution and how you have to go back a move every time you get it wrong. I would love if the daily puzzles returned to their previous instalment. It would really give me some peace of mind :) Cheers

Could be better. There is this bug in chess where it removes you from the game during and before you even started. It is extremely hard to play when all of a sudden it kicks you out. The app in itself is okay but I think there should be an actual thing that really teaches you to play chess, like comments on your moves. Also, you should be able to do other stuff than just play against a bot when your offline. I suggest that you fix all bugs and glitches and change it so that it is not an online app. Thank you!

Constant Glitching. Since I downloaded this app it has glitches constantly. I lose games all the time because it just freezes, won't let me move, and runs my clock down. I prefer to win, but don't mind losing if I lose due to my own mistakes, but losing because the app screws up is a different story entirely. There is also a serious problem with customer service. If you complain about a glitch, you'll be lucky if you receive a response within a week. The ELO rating for Rapid and Blitz doesn't update correctly. You'll also be bombarded with Chess News you never asked for and which it is difficult to unsubscribe from. Download another app instead.

Keep coming back. As a learner, I've felt encouraged by this app more so than anything else I've tried. This time I'm sticking with it, coming back daily to test and improve my skills. This app also has some nifty settings you can turn on and off for different challenge levels. I'm able to incrementally challenge myself while making the experience fun rather than crushing. I'm going to stick with this one.

Learning Chess the Easy Way. In this app, you will find that it will answer all your questions and make you a better player whether you are a beginner or a long term player. Questions answered well, opening plays and end games plus archived games explained move by move. The best app I have found for Chess enthusiasts. (Hiawgbbss)

Recurring connectivity issues. Love the app and all its functionalities but when playing live chess (10mins against an opponent) it often freezes saying it’s reconnecting and ends up kicking me out of the game. I’ve checked the FAQs and there are only browser-specific recommendations to improve connectivity, which don’t apply to the app. Also, my internet is working perfectly otherwise. Please help, I can’t really play like this :(

Very good. Very simple, 2D chess game with good formatting and easy ways to choose what modes you want to play. I love that you can have different themes and colours and just generally customise the Home Screen, and how you can get into a game so quickly and how the game gives you free lessons. Although I feel that this chess game pushes the premium subscription onto you too hard and doesn’t let you do a things more than a few times a day without restricting it due to you not paying. Apart from this game having small annoying paywalls, it’s a really well made game and I love it for the most part.

Chess rediscovered after a 30 year hiatus. I played a bit if chess as a kid and am now coming back to the game. The little tutorials are helpful, but sometimes when being given a puzzle to solve, I am unsure of what I did wrong and I don’t find the controls to be very intuitive (to find out what should have happened). I’m still learning how to get the most out of the app, but in general it has been very good. I still don’t know what to do on solo play. I thought I would be playing the computer. Currently it has a king and a pawn that are both white and I can’t seem to do anything with them. I’ve been playing a game with my brother and I like the way you can take your time and not be pressured. We will probably finish the game in a five day period, but it could be played over months. Thanks for making this app. It is fun and informative.

This game is amazing 5 stars. I have an uncle that is extremely good at chess and is impossible to beat for me, and I have recently learned moves that I can beat him now these lessons and AI’s are really good and easy to beat for me now. And I love the fact that you can choose what mode makes you feel comfortable. I used to HAVE to do assisted but now I can do challenge. This is a great app to use for learning and having fun 🤩.

Good content but odd design. The overall navigation within the app is rather flakey. You can bookmark content on this app, but later try to find it and it’s almost impossible. Implementation of some features, such as the article viewer is especially odd. It shows articles within a popup window that for no sensible reason reduces your screen size by about a third, it leaves distracting clutter from the screen behind it still visible, and with the restricted viewing area, you can’t adjust the font size. Searching for content is also a strange, unreliable experience. You can search the openings section for something such as the London System and, without any restricting filters, just won’t find some content, as if it has not been indexed properly. It really seems like a carelessly designed app that barely hangs together.

Great app - old study plan should be in mobile. The app is great. I wonder why has the old-study plan been removed from the lessons in the mobile version. I can see it’s still there in the web version. If any developer reads this comment, please consider to include the old-study plan in the mobile version as well. Thanks for all the work you guys do to create this app. I use it everyday.

Stopped working after last update. 18 Nov 2023. Not working on my iPad Air (Model MD793X/A) since around when last update was done - presumably as a result of the update. I like and enjoy using this app usually, so still giving 5 star rating hoping this hiccup will be fixed with another update soon. Update 23 Nov. Working again! Thanks for the quick action.

App has crashed, highly disappointing.. I have been using this app for several months and have been mainly satisfied with it. So a couple of days ago I tried to open it to play but it won’t load. I tried to delete the app so I could reinstate it but when I press and hold the app on the iPhone to engage the delete option, instead of shaking like apps normally amd presenting the delete option, it doesn’t shake and only presents the option share it so it can’t be deleted. So the app just now presents itself in the search bar section of my iPhone and doesn’t function.

Hacked and prevented from playing less than 24 hours after making an account. I made an account yesterday, and today I realised it wouldn’t let me play against a friend because with was ‘logged in somewhere else’. I went to the settings, and it was a spam email and changed password. Really? 24 hours and it’s already hacked? 🙄😡 Also, it’s so hard to navigate! I’ve tried to add my friend a million times, and every time I find their account, I add them as a friend, but they’re never on my friends list. Gonna get a different app

Overall great app with some room for improvement. Lots of users so very easy to find a game somewhere in the world no matter what time it is where you are. The courses are also pretty good if you are just starting out or looking to brush up on some skills. The game reviews and daily puzzle are hit and miss - sometimes some good tricks or better moves you could have played while other times it’s pretty clear they are not telling you the right move (and the puzzles have no concept of their being multiple good ways to solve the challenge which can be annoying). Another thing that irks me a bit and would be great to see is allowing chat with a player after the game rather than the BS agro chats you get from some players during the game. When I play in person chess, it’s enjoyable to review the game with your opponent after the match and their is often much less bravado then when online players try to chat to you (typically a stupid and premature laughing emoji or ‘bye bye’ before they realize they walked into your trap) during the game, particularly on the speed games.

Ruined by the players and the apps refusal to fix the problem. The app itself is great - it’s chess. But so many people you play against stop playing but continue to let the clock go down when they realise they’re going to get beaten, I guess in the hope that you get tired of waiting and quit the game so that they get the points. I’ve asked numerous times for them to do something about it, like limit the time to a minute before you forefit a game in the 10min mode, rather than people being able to run the clock down for 8+ minutes. It used to happen every now and then, but these days almost every other player you come up against does this.

Brilliant App but Lessons broken. Great app, absolutely love it. HOWEVER, Big problem with the lessons ( If you pay for a premium account ) Bit disappointed since paying for premium. The lessons are broken. I only get a black screen with sound for the tutorial videos. Impossible to follow without a visual. Using an IPhone 13 Pro Max for developers info. It’s sporadically, sometimes it works but then might not work for days where I only get sound.

Ive been playing for 10 minutes and already found a serious bug. The game so far has been great i just recently got back into playing chess so it is good to have one i can play on the go at all times and the ai that changes depending on how well you play is great. I have however found a game breaking bug in my second game against the bot where if the pawn gets to the end of the board you can get the queen back but the problem is if you get another pawn you are able to get multiple queens on the board. A fix may be necessary quite quickly especially if this is possible in multiplayer

Great app!. It is a very useful app with lots of different functions and means of which to improve your chess game! There are lots of free lessons that are extremely helpful and is very user friendly with a good UI and lots of customisation. Only problem I could find is sometimes it wouldn’t let me send an invite to my friends to play a game but asides from that it’s a brilliant app! 10/10 would download again -IGN

Where is my account?. I paid for a year’s membership in April and suddenly this morning I was locked out.

Worst chess app sucks. Don’t instal it. Fair play fair play fair play

Unfortunately glitching out constantly. Iphone 14 pro user and my app keeps glitching or showing my turn when the opponent has not moved. Last game i played my pawn disappeared but my opponent had not killed it. I asked them and they said they could see it but the game registered it as a check on my side. Very confused.

Great website, horrible app. Love the website, but the app version of this game is horrible. Always crashes, glitches during games, sometimes it makes your pieces go to the wrong square. Will have trouble connecting to the internet even though I have great high speed and every other app connects perfectly fine.

Chess lichess is better. Chess lichess is better

Why cant we see possible moves. Why cant we see possible moves

So mean. U need to make a easier level like 100 or smt bc how did I just get beaten by a guy who’s 4 year old beat him??? It makes absolutely no sense unless that kid is what Einstein ??? Fix this please or it will feel unfair !!

Clock issue. I played over 25 000 games on chess.com so I know when something is wrong. Sometimes it’s the opponents turn to play but the clock doesn't stop for you, sometimes it even stops on both sides! The only way to fix the clock is to offer a draw and then the clock gets back to normal. Extremely frustrating as it only happens when am up winning a game!

Crashing When Opening. After the most recent update my game is crashing every time I open it

Bring back mittens. Honestly I have a lot of fun playing with mittens it’s was too fun now I don’t feel like playing anymore

No unlimited puzzle. I upgraded to Diamond Won’t let me do than 4 a day. No game daily puzzle explanation

Cool game!!!0w0. This game makes me think very well. And it’s interesting i play this game each day cause it’s chess UwU 0w0 TwT >.< OvO UvU =_= (o_o)

Not a great learning tool. If you are an avid chess player this is presumably a great app, but as a learning tool it just hasn’t been helpful or enjoyable. There isn’t enough coaching by the computer players to help you improve, the post-game analyzer is very difficult to understand, and playing other humans is essentially pointless because you lose every time. I was hoping that the features would help lessen the learning curve but they don’t and as such I cannot give this app more than an “ok” rating.

Sounds not coming in iPhone 14. Such a worst paid app. Basics like sound are absent in iPhone 14. Bad technical team in this chess app. No response to questions after taking the money

Chess.com. Best chess app

Time clocks.. This site is infested with cheaters. 1 minute games are the only games you can play but the clock is faulty so you lose most games based on the clock. I time the games using a stop watch, these games are usually anywhere from 2 min 20 seconds and higher, so much time is added so you always lose by 1 - 2 seconds but usually by more. Games above 1 minute forget it your odds are almost zero, I’ve played for 35 so where my rating was previously about 1600-1800 now it’s at 1000-1100. Sometimes I get to 1400 but they send me backdown with all their scam games. Whether they are using bots, fake players, rigged clocks who knows. I’m pretty good at calculating odds and believe me these are not random games we are being paired up with. There are days the games seem at a different level so obviously this site is a scam. Looking at the game reports don’t tell the full truth whether they show you 90 percentile or 20 percentile. A good player might find it frustrating being paired to a 20-40 percentile player as most moves are just not logical. After so many years of playing in this site it gets worse and worse.

1 complaint. The chat option is terrible and very frustrating. Type 3 letters and it bounces off . It’s not good

Worst chess game ever. This game the worst chess app I ever played just a bunch of cheaters using chess programs and if they lose they stall bUnch of loser not to mention the lag developers must be a bunch of corporate douche bags $$$ so yea if you want to put money the losers pockets go head be a sheep and download it

Chess is good… if the app works. App has not worked in almost two weeks. The initial opening screens load infinitely and never gets to the main interface. Actual chess play is great, if you can get there…

Great chess app. Apart from playing,I like how I can analyze where I went wrong!

I can’t put 0 star. The clock sucks

Poor interface. I’m comparing it to Red Hot Pawn and I find the interface to be pathetic. On RH P I can see all my games, my moves, opponents moves all the time. That’s what I’m interested in and not these puzzles. Now when I come to give feedback it changes the type to black. The subject is white but the text is black. Where does this make any sense at all.

Chess. Chess.com is the best chess site in my opinion I have so much fun playing against bots and players it really helps me get better at chess and keeps me wanting to get my rank higher to become a chess master

Lag bugs connection problems. It’s getting harder and harder to play on the app. Many lags connection problems. I often have to delete the app and install it back because it can’t open. Can’t see the possible moves anymore.

Boycott racism. Permanently deleted the app after playing for more than a decade. I have moved to Lichess after chess.com decided to censor another countries flag. You can’t paint all people in one broad brush stroke, that’s racism.

I don't really like chess.com. It's just dull And chess is not a sport

What the heck!! I lost my account. I was playing a game and it automatically abandoned me from it in game. The next day I see a message fail to authenticate account and logs me out, when I try to log back in it doesn’t work. Bad experience ranked up for nothing

Not worth it. Subscribed for a year - all it did was make me hate chess.

Please make horizontal screen available!!!. Can you guys add a horizontal screen mode?

Ui needs work. Awful UI which often incorrectly drops pieces in the wrong location.

Draw. Whenever I get checkmate the game says it’s a draw even though there isn’t a move they could do to win the game I have played many games where I have won and it’s labeled as a draw

Chess is sick. This is a very good app and I will continue to use

Bugs and no support from admin to fix them. There’s lots of bugs, at least on the iPhone and it doesn’t seem like support cares or is doing anything about it.

A promising a feature-rich app and a troll-infested experience. Cheaters, rudeness, all over the place and trolls ruining the game. Sad but really not enough is being done to control all this. Mods should crack down but the “diamond” and “gold” members can get away with it all because they pay.

Too many cheaters. They’re too many 800-1200’s that play like they’re 1800’s. The only plausible explanation is they’re using their room temperature IQ to load up an engine and cheat. Very simple and easy to do and it seems many users are doing that.

It’s a “free” app.. You have To pay for tips and the other half of the app you downloaded. Look everywhere but this. 🤮

Terrible connection. This game requires a better internet connection than competitive online gaming. I have lost countless games because I « disconnected », meanwhile every app on my phone is still connected and I can browse the internet.

Bing bang boom. 5Head

Mid-Game Abortion?. I don’t know if it was a glitch or something but an aborted message popped out mid-game. How is that possible!?

Good App. It does the thing. It’s a good thing.

Chess.com app. Love the app. I’d like to see them implement a board where players can play Grand Chess or Capablanca Chess or other variants. It would add to further exploration of this great game. Also, lessons and interactions with chess masters from all over the world are a great resource to improve one’s skill and are second to no other chess app that I’ve seen.

Bots. Chess.com is all bots, they beat you to try and get you to sign up for premium service for tips. Total scam.

Great way to get better at chess. Great platform best online chess I got way better because of chess.com

Hacked by players. A dude literally jumped my pawn which was already passed away from mine. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I did a replay and stand corrected. Either glitch or hacked. This was a winning game . Only happened once after 100s of game so i think it is hacked. Dude was gonna lose with out this.

Best chess app when it comes to online games. For challenging real people online, the chess.com app is the best, but when it comes to puzzles and analysis, there are better ones

App has limited functionality. Almost every time that I go back a move or two during a game against a bot the app crashes and deletes my current game. I see others have reported this issue as well, but even with the latest update there does not appear to be a resolution. It would also be nice to have a few more free features, it’s hard to get into when the free features are limited/ don’t work properly.

Mostly good. I can’t seem to find a way to view my tournaments, team matches, vote chess and forums. It could be buried in the app, but then that means an interface change is needed

Don’t bother taking this app seriously!. I made it to legend league twice, the top league for the app. Only to get my account deleted twice. With no explanation or warning. Waste of time and of a app. I see why Magnus Carlson left chess.com and so should you.

Sent back to wood. On dec24 2022 i was leading by about 40 points in the championship league and was knocked down to wood league and have know idea why! Please reinstate me.

Have problem. I can’t log in with google :(

Game changer!. When I first played chess you just had a board and whoever you knew that played chess (in my case just one person who always beat me easily). With this app you can play unlimited games with people of your level and it has lessons, puzzles, game analysis and more. It does not matter if you know how to play or not or maybe you just always thought you sucked but with this app you can really enjoy chess no matter your level. Oh one comment about the AI players to product support team. I was playing the bot Elena. She was doing great, shutting down every move I made. Then I made two stupid mistakes. I think she must have been laughing so bad she over clocked her cpu. I was able to just mop her up. By the end her white bishop was just zooming around attacking nothing (my pieces were mostly on black). So I ended up with 5 queens. Ok that was mean of me. She might need some serious TLC.

Bugs in analysis and IOS app, good overall. Hi, I have been using this app for a relatively long time on my IOS devices. The the IOS version is still unstable. The analysis may show the same move as best and as inaccuracy or simply show several moves as best. Sometimes bugs happens on another IOS device I own. This error requires app termination in order to be resolved. Eventually, sometimes this lead to loosing games. Sometimes, the app stops working after certain actions with move confirmation. These bugs are what prevent me from buying a subscription I would really enjoy to have. I do not really see the reason to spend money on the analysis that does not work properly on IOS devices. I can provide a screen recording as a proof if you will want it. Also, I have discovered a little bug allowing some players to get advantage over the others. Other than that, the app is really great and I have been enjoying it for more than one year so far.

Game is unfair. The game is ok except it gives the computer abilities to do things that you can’t for instance, if their queen jumps across the board right next to your king, you can’t take their queen to get out of the check making it a checkmate, but if you do the exact same thing the king will take your queen leaving you feeling like you’re crazy. The game stops you from doing certain strategic moves that sometimes force you to make bad plays, for instance you could see an opportunity to change the game with a capture but moved the piece you’re trying to capture with the move before, the game then does not allow you to move that pice and makes you move a different one once again forcing you to make a bad play. End game if you’ve taken all of their pieces and the only one left is their king you have about 3-5 moves until they call it a draw. But if you have only your king left it plays the game until they checkmate you. Could be even 25 moves.

The reason why you going to end up getting this app.. Love it, simply the best option. It’s free, it’s simple and easy to navigate-VERY user friendly! Your exposed to and have a wealth of knowledge and real world experience playing other players from the introductory rated player to the 1300 level serious amateurs to the guys well above that that obviously didn’t get there by accident. Also, it’s FREE! A analysis is offered that literally makes every game that you play a valuable learning experience, bc we don’t learn as much with our successes as we do with our failures and that transforms your failure and with a little effort and consistent practice it becomes the source of your strength.., I love this app and their is no comparison I’ve probably spent more hours logged in on this app then all the hours on all the other apps combined and if you took that by two I’d still have more time spent playing chess on this app! 🤯lol

Tournament Tab Major Issues. Recently, it appears the tournament section is still experiencing major bugs. When accessing the current daily tournament tab, I have no options to select my tournaments, current tournaments, etc. These drop down menus were available before, but have oddly disappeared. I now have to go through a lengthy, awkward pathway to access and view the tournaments I am currently competing in. Another major issue is the app will not allow me to join tournaments. When I attempt to click the join button, nothing happens. It is not a timeout issue or anything else, and I know this because it won’t even display an error when clicking join. It simply does not work. I love the app and still use it, but seeing as the tournament section has suffered even more issues I have to lower my rating to three stars. Hopefully this can be resolved soon, because this app is still the best overall chess app to use in my honest opinion.

Best chess app and website ever. If you want to learn how to play chess this is the best way to do it but the main thing is the best competitive way it has the largest community which means the most variety in a lot of different players different levels you can play against. Sure some of the community is toxic but every community has toxic people. Unfortunately the only downside is if you don’t pay money you don’t get to have unlimited puzzles or unlimited computer analysis. Thankfully I do have the diamond membership so I can do everything the app has to offer. I recommend playing on the computer though I rarely play on the phone. If you don’t have a computer that’s fine but using a mouse is a lot easier. Just overall great website to get good at chess checkmate!

Play it all the time, some issues tho.. This game is absolutely amazing, the game design and response is what I've been looking for in a chess app for a long time. I play it all the time when I’m bored and play hours at a time. However, there are some issues. First, if you switch up the game options or go into some of the modes the game will crash and do so repeatedly till you have to reinstall the app all together. Second, don’t try to do the Threefold Repetition move on the computer in-order to call a draw, for whatever reason the game does not register this as a legitimate move, I use this move all the time when facing someone stronger in chess competitions in order for them to not beat me but instead draw. For now ill just say its a draw and restart the game but Its not as satisfying. Other than those two points ill def keep this app and continue to play it almost daily.

Great chess app, still some annoying bugs. The actual gameplay, animations, puzzles, modes etc is all great on this app. Unfortunately, the mobile version (as opposed to the desktop website) often has annoying problems. I have an iPhone 12 mini, by no means outdated or slow, and probably 1/5 of the time when I try to open the app it just loads forever or freezes on the loading screen. This is with fast wifi or fast cellular data, and requires a re-install of the app to fix the problem (closing and swiping the app away doesn’t fix it). Also, when doing a puzzle battle, it will often take several minutes to find a match if it does at all, even though there are many players you must close and restart the app to fix the problem and get paired within seconds like normal.

Ends games early. I loved this app at first because I never played chess before and I was using it to play against my brother and boyfriend, but we had to learn the hard way that clicking away from the game for all of 30 seconds disconnects the game and you lose all of your progress. The first time we simply put our phones to sleep because we were getting out of the car and walked inside, only to open our phones and find it disconnected. The second time I was playing with someone for almost 35 minutes (we aren’t great) and I had to answer an important phone call for all of 30 seconds, only to come back and find the game disconnected itself just as we were in our final moves. It doesn’t make sense that such a big app for chess would have a bug like this, or if it’s on purpose, at least put a warning that games can’t be paused. I’m honestly just sad because I finally started understanding and was about to win my first game only for it to abort it.

Good, but one problem. This is really good chess app buuuutttt it calls stalemate wrong a stalemate happens when a king can’t move anywhere else so say you have your king’s opponent in a corner like the very corner side of the chess table and a queen is diagonal from the king that is a stalemate because the king can’t make any legal moves, but isn’t in check with this game they call stalemate mate simply because you made the same move too many times that is not a stalemate and it’s really frustrating because you take your time going through the game only to for app to call it a draw because you made the same move too many like how are you suppose to properly learn to checkmate if the game just calls it draw when you make the same move too many times but other than that it’s a good app

Great except one MAJOR problem. The game needs to force Auto-resign better, they have a timer but it won’t force the auto-resign because players found a way to reset the timer. If you start winning the other player will be petty and wait out the entire game.. without moving.. and you eventually have to forfeit because you don’t want to wait 30 minutes for nothing every time you play this game. Games great but this is a major problem they must address!!! Just add a feature that ACTUALLY forces them into resigning when the a timer goes for 4-5 min AND ITS THE SAME TURN. Also I know there’s different time limits you can set but 10 and 15 min games aren’t gonna cut it for a great game always, so I set to 30. Also you can resign yourself anytime during the game but why should I have to lose because I’m winning???

Great, but missing a lot of features. Either this app is missing a lot of what comes with the website or I just can’t seem to find them through the app. the option to customize the pieces separate from the board, the ability to draw arrows on the board, and a slight issue is that when i send a challenge to my friends they don’t always receive it. in fact most of the time they don’t receive it and i have to send multiple challenges at once. i’ll always prefer the website but the mobile version is what i have to use being outside of the house frequently. Again, everything about this app is amazing and it’s always going to be the best option for mobile chess, there are just some things missing

Newbie on the learning curve. I love the website. The app is also very well done. I'm currently working my way thru Tactics, Lessons and such. Lots, and I mean lots of these to practice and use, the most part very fun and can be challenging if you stray too far afield. I'm very happy learning this way as opposed to books, which suffer from too many alternative lines sometimes to keep track of where you are. One suggestion would be to add a second less cryptic hint along the lines of why the example is in front of you, like "see any pins?" For Tactics training. If you're looking for an app-website combination to spend your time and bucks on, you can't go wrong here. Others have offered different suggestions for improvement of the app, but almost all are in the supportive "keep it up" mode, which mine is. I'd give it five stars, but I want the developers to read my suggestion Your move!

No, I Don’t Want Notifications. I turned off notifications for this app, but I get told to turn them on every time I open the app. Submitted a ticket several months ago, got a sympathetic response, but the issue is not fixed. I feel like this is a deliberate choice by the marketing team to badger me into getting messages I don’t want. My feelings about the rest of the features of the app are irrelevant; I feel disrespected by the app developers’ bosses and will not use it as long as I keep getting told to turn on notifications. EDIT: After submitting ANOTHER ticket and being assured that this was a bug, and being promised to have quick communication, this issue remains unresolved and there was NO communication after I sent information on the issue. EDIT 2: I was told my problem with the app was not a problem with the app, despite it being entirely contained in the app. I am completely done with this company after being gaslit by Customer Support.

New update kills bullet. I tried with several different Internet connections. Every move takes around three seconds for the computer to respond. If you’re playing a one minute bullet game this means you cannot win. My rating dropped around 1000 points. I thought I was having a slow day but then I realized the timer. Also after several years they still have never fix the bug that if you touch the screen the last second before a game is over it takes you into the menu selection. This is extremely annoying. If they don’t fix this bug soon I’m seriously considering ending my subscription. It’s pretty worthless being able to play bullet games if every move takes several seconds

Daily Puzzle Calendar Disappeared. The daily puzzle has a calendar next to it that allows you to choose which day you’d like to attempt. This calendar no longer shows up, though there is an empty black box on the screen as if it is still supposed to be there. I’m not sure if this is a bug or the feature has been removed. I’ve tried restarting and even updating and reinstalling the app, the behavior still persists on version 3.9.27. Using an iPad Pro on version 15.2 P.S. Please allow changing analysis settings in the app. We need to be able to disable the suggestion arrows. Thanks for a great app! EDIT: This is fixed in the 3.9.28 update! The maintainers specifically mentioned this issue on the new release. Great response!

Great but.... Love the app. Especially the fact it has different modes. I end up mostly playing the 960 variant. My only issue is the app for some reason will randomly log me out. Then when I try to log back in through the Facebook login (where I originally started playing this) the app says “couldn’t log in. We are unable to create your account. Please contact support to resolve this issue”. It’s behaving as though I’m trying to create an account despite my hitting the “sign in” button. Then for some reason doesn’t recognize my Facebook account or that I’m logged into Facebook. I can access from my desktop with no issues. But this continues to happen at random and gets frustrating. Especially when I have timed games waiting for my move that then are forfeited because of no move being made by me. Would be a solid 5 star if not for this issue.

The newer UI is annoying. I don’t have auto updates so my app was a few months behind but it was all fine. I decided to update. Please give us an option to revert. The game reviews are annoying now and I pay for them. They got rid of the arrow that you click to just keep going move by move one at a time. Now you have to click a line of 2 moves. It’s annoying and too fast. I can’t focus with it. On top of that my finger loses track of which line I was on. I want the arrow back. Also I preferred the accuracy and moves showed all on one page so I could screenshot good game results to send to friends. Now the chess board takes half the screen and you can’t get nice screenshots of everything. Lastly the little animation they added when you open the app makes opening take 3 seconds longer, not the worst thing but unnecessary. Please respond.

Connection issues. First a friend referred me to this game to play him. I signed up thru my email and when he sends a reheat to play I get the notification thru my email and not the app or on my phone. It took us a half a day to figure that out. Also I received a call during our play and when I went back to the app our whole game was gone. Other chess apps like chess with friends is very user friendly. I have this app 1 star because I had to but you do deserve the 1 star based on the other learning tools within the app which does seem to mate other apps. But those two issues has me not wanting to be bothered because I can’t play people I know without going thru a lot to be connected and God forbid if a call comes thru while we’re playing. 🤦🏾‍♂️

Good chess app. I really like this app and I enjoy how you can learn lessons from it , but I did notice one issue. It doesn’t properly format on the screen. What I mean by that is that while you can see most of the pieces, you can see the rook located on the far right side on some of the multiplayer options. The function where you play against a computer is perfectly fine. The issue is when you play against local players (the only one I’ve noticed to have issues with thus far). As mentioned previously you are not actually able to see the rook on the right side, you can see the bishop to the left of it by one square, just not the rook or the right most pawn directly in front of it by one row. In addition, you also can’t clearly see the timer to the right of it because it cuts off of the screen. Overall, I really enjoy this game aside from the few formatting issues stated above.

This game is wonderful🫃🫃🫃🫃🫃🫃🫃🫃. As a man, this game has changed my life forever. As soon as I installed the app, my pregnant wife had a miscarriage. Now, you might think that this was a bad thing. But, 3 days later, I started feeling more morbidly obese than normal. I went in to get an untrasound, and it turned out that I was pregnant! This game gave me a wonderful little boy who would have turned 3 today, but he sadly disappeared an hour into labor. I think that this was because I sacrificed a pawn for an attack. The baby could have been the result of a pawn promotion. I am still happy with the experience this game has given me, to be able to have the wonderful feeling of being a mother (or father). I would highly recommend this game to others so they can have the same experience.

UPDATE!. Good game. I will admit. Nice design, and it uses all the traditional moves and rules (that I know of). Except for one recent thing. When I start a game against a friend in this game, white gets a pawn and knight taken away and you can’t get it back. Oh yeah there’s also another problem. I CANT finish a game!! This is definitely a glitch and may fix itself, but I make a move , and the game just doesn’t register the move, even though it shows the move for me and my friend. The game clock keeps ticking against me, but neither one of us can make a move. WEIRD!!! Since i made this review for Chess i got a response in the form of an email that the developers have made some changes. I downloaded the update, and sure enough everything works just fine. THANK YOU!!

A fantastic app for all chess levels.. As both a programmer and a novice chess player, I can testify a lot of work, and a lot of love, went into this app. A lot of chess apps have the same run of the mill features: play vs. a computer at various skill levels or play online and receive a score that will increase or decrease based on your win ratio. This is fine, but this app decided to go much further. I have never been in a chess club or received lessons, but I’ve always wanted to be a good chess player. You can learn a lot by playing the game a bunch online or against a computer, but you won’t really learn tactics, how to properly set up a board, and everything else one needs to know to excel at the game. This app teaches you all of that and more. They have an advanced version, but I’m doing fine with the free version. I’ve already noticed that my ability to strategize and develop my pieces has increased quite a bit. Chess has became less of a game where I figure it out move by move, but finally something that I can think out and consider. I attribute that all to this app’s lessons. If you’re a beginner looking to develop your skills, or an advanced player looking to brush up on lessons, or a master looking to have fun online, you’ll be able to do all of those things here. I wish app development was typically this good. 10/10

Versus Computer Crash. Generally speaking great app, typically consistent and fun. However, as of a day or two ago the app began crashing randomly during versus computer play. Make a move and the app crashes, then when trying to re-enter that game the app crashes. All other features and options seem functional, it only crashes when attempting to access ‘computer’ options (tried from different menu options). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it fixed temporarily, but the base problem has persisted. I likely will not continue to uninstall and reinstall the app to compensate for the faulty programming. Please fix soon so I and others don’t have to ditch. Current rating related to current issue. *Issue appears to fixed. Thank you.

Need easy to do timeOptions. Whoever figured that only a ten minute per player time limit and a thirty, triple the ten, should be available, didn’t do well. The majority of players would prefer an easily made Match, not custom, for 15 or 20 minutes per side, or at least I would and having a 15 or 20 button to simply press to set up the game against a random player would be great. I would become a paying customer finally!! Having only a 10 or 30 to choose from for instant games isn’t accommodating the middle players who want their game not too fast and not too slow. I’m tired of being ahead and losing by timeout! I’ve been on the winning end of a timeout against players better than me…15 or 20 minutes would be just right.

Random disconnections, flawed abandonments. There are so many obvious flaws that the developer is not fixing knowingly. Firstly, if the other player is not making a move for more than a minute and you go to check your message for few seconds, you lose the game immediately by abandonment! And if there are 5 or more minutes remaining in the game and the other player knows that he will be checkmated in a few moves, he doesn’t make a move at all and you keep waiting forever holding your phone and keeping the app open. The other player hopes that you start checking your emails and then you will be declared loser by abandonment! Why can’t they simply fix this flaw? Can’t their engine detect the other player has already lost the game and is not making a move taking advantage of the known flaws in the app? And oh other than that there are random disconnections in the app and even though you are winning the game, you lose it in a matter of few seconds of disconnection.

Fun app; glad a friend recommended it. I was wary at first about the app, having heard mixed reviews but after trying it out, the gaming experience is not as bad as it sounded. There’s a lot of support material and the player base, though there are exceptions here and there, are pretty nice. One suggestion for the content developers is to remove the play by play explanations for the lessons and allow the players just fast forward and rewind through the game setups. I think the material of the game is tangible enough without the extra work involved. Besides the players need to develop an eye for seeing moves, openings, defenses, game flows, and opportunities by themselves. Too much hand holding and the players may become too dependent on help and not develop the assertiveness needed to play well and create their own openings later on. Cheers.

Really enjoying but the computer cheats sometimes. I have been thoroughly enjoying using this app to play chess casually. I am hoping to get better at it and this app has a lot of great tools to help. That being said, on 2 occasions in the past few days I have had issues with the computer taking pawns that it shouldn’t be able to take. Specifically it seems to happen when I move a pawn from its starting position 2 spaces up on the board. The opposing pawn will immediately move to capture the piece as if it was attacking diagonally when I was moving my pawn in the space next to it. For example: moving from e7 to e5 my pawn will be captured on e6.. If this is something I am ignorant of regarding chess and fault is actually mine then I apologize for mentioning it. I am loving this app and I highly recommend it still!

CHESS: Play and Learn. This is a great app for anyone who loves chess, and wants to play a better game. The lessons are both written and/or visual, catering to multiple learning styles. Multiple videos, produced and narrated by Master players, explain the common to Master level openings and strategic play, including defensive moves. This app will help the beginner improve their play, and keep the hopeful Master satisfied with blitz games, the analysis of historic battles, news stories, and more. If you want to learn to play, or are looking for more partners, at whatever level you play, this is the best chess app I’ve seen. If you love the game, if you can afford an upgraded version, buy it. Stop looking at other sites. Don't waste your time. The learning opportunities are varied and entertaining, features too many to mention. A range of world wide players, both in skill and technique, will challenge and introduce you to different ways to play. Wish I had had this when I first learned to play! The Diamond upgrade with access to all teaching courses, would be a great gift for the young player who is not challenged enough by his/her peers, and wants to learn the tactics and strategies used by the old GrandMasters! As I've said, great app., spendy. EzraKeyWest

Great App!. UPDATED REVIEW: Was having issues with the app before the latest update, but it’s working great now! Love the app, best way to play chess on a mobile platform bar none. Love the layout and it has all of the functions you’d look for in a chess app including the ability to look back through your previous moves and analyze entire games for move quality. My only issue is that I’m not receiving push notifications from the app anymore, so I have to manually check back for updates. Not ideal, but I’m sure this will be fixed soon. Will give 5 star as soon as this is fixed. OLD REVIEW: All I see is white, can’t log in or view my games in the app, I’m resigned to playing through the browser until this issue is fixed. I’d just got the app on my iPhone 7 and it was working great. Seems like it’s just a comparability issues. Will update my review when it’s fixed.

It’s good but can be much better and easier to use. This game is awesome but the menu is ever so complicated, it’s not so simple as to have sub categories so simple like singleplayer, multiplayer, options, etc, and the fact that you can’t leave an online game is silly. Also if my opponent leaves, why does it still act as if they’re in the game and their timer is still counting? As soon as they leave or close the app, give the other player the win and that’s it. Why should one wait until the resignation timer finishes just because your opponent left the game? It’s absurd. Please make the menu simple and not complicated. It needs an overhaul. Also I did something in the menu by accident and now I don’t know how to set the settings back so I can play against the A.I, it’s set to two player multiplayer on the same phone when I select “computer” lol and I don’t know how to revert back. Fix the menu please, and make it simple and not complicated.

Play, learn, practice, be amused. Excellent game play, game management, & much more. Post game analysis ranks each move “excellent/good/inaccuracy/blunder” and identifies what the better move would have been. Track your stats separately different game speeds, and accrue virtual ratings in the lessons and tactics drills. Pick up live timed games instantly, or play “daily” chess with days or weeks to make a move. I Love the daily tactics puzzles. Excellent interactive lessons and drills (e.g. practice every variety of limited-material mate). Watch other games live... easy to peek in on a friend’s games. GM video lectures and other curated material offer solid insights. Regular shows like “Chess Brahs” always a good time. No other chess app comes close to this. Unlimited game play for free; all other main features available in reasonable quantities for free, more than enough to keep a casual player occupied. I upgraded just to get more daily tactics puzzles, and got deeper analysis tools I’m still learning about.

Website ok App Horrible. I’m not shaming the company but the app is horrible. I’ve been using the website for about a year, but today I decided to download the app, terrible decision. From this download I learned you could friend someone so I friended my roommate as we like to play together on the website. The app wouldn’t show it, after 20 minutes it finally did but it wouldn’t allow me to play with her, only see her data. I decided to play with her but it wouldn’t allow me to play anyone but there random people. It wouldn’t let me start a game with her or show the usual game request when she sent me a request. I decided to just move to the website. If you read this, thank you. I’m not saying don’t use this company, although I am saying don’t use the app. The website is fine, although the app is trash and wastes your time trying to figure out. It took me 30 minutes to not even start playing a game but just try and figure out the app. I wouldn’t download again unless they make serious app changes.

Lots more than a simple app. Very good chess app with lots of lessons, links to videos, and a free registration to join online activity and compete head-to-head or in tourneys. One problem I’ve encountered is that, as an inexperienced player, I’ve studied some videos and completed several lessons through the app. This has allowed me to handily beat the computer on Level One. I moved up to Level 2, and you’d think I moved up to Level 5 or 6. The game went from making many mistakes and blunders, to almost none, and trapping me in almost every move. Even using hints often results in a “mistake” move. I’ve gone from beating the computer easily and quickly to being trapped and beaten soundly, just by advancing one level. It’s not even a challenge because I’m simply biding my time to Checkmate halfway into the game. I’m also confused by some of the lessons. In some of them, you are given a scenario and have to choose the best option. Some of the “correct” options make no sense to me, but there’s no explanation as to WHY they are the best option. Example: One scenario had me taking a Knight with a Bishop, only to have my piece taken by the opponent’s bishop. With no explanation, it teaches me nothing. Still, the app offers a lot of lessons and info for free, including online games.

Bullet Rating. The games great I love it it’s last the best Chess app I’ve ever seen to be honest with you. But since I’m being honest with you I should tell you that I have one concern. That concern is that I think you should play people on your Bullet rating that way it’s fair. Like suppose I was playing someone on a 2000 bullet rating and I had a 200 bullet rating well it obvious who’s gonna win. Which is why you should make it where people play other players on their bullet rating. And if you can’t find someone who has the same bullet rating as the other player. Like say for instance my bullet rating was 500 and you couldn’t find some who was 500 than I could play someone who has a 503 bullet rating. Anyways sorry if I’m making to many concerns about the game. I do hope you put my ideas in the game.

Okay, but has some issues that need to be addressed. The app itself is adequate, but somewhat unreliable. It frequently drops connections during a game (and no, it’s not my Internet, because I still have a connection to other sites). So frequently I lose anywhere from 2-6 minutes over the course of a 15-minute game. I’ve lost several games because of dropped connections. And why does losing the connection mean an auto-resign? At worst, it should be a draw. If the connection is lost after I’ve made my move, then just blank the board (so I can’t use the time to think about the board position), and don’t deduct the time from my clock. Another issue is the analysis engine when reviewing the Game Report. I have frequently had cases where I make an alternative move, to see if it would have worked better, and it says “such and such is best”. So I try that move, and it says it’s a mistake! Then it tells me a different move is best! I try that move, and it says no, the other move is best, or it says yet another move is best. I have also had the engine tell me I’ve winning, says by +2.00, but when I make all the moves it says are the best moves, I end up even! I had a game today in which I tried an alternative move, which it said was a mistake. I then made the move for my opponent it said was “best”, and I had a mate in 1! So there is definite room for improvement here.

Great Setup, Back Accountsbility. I love to use this app regularly, especially in how it introduces chess-lovers to competitive play with real-life players. The downside is the lack of accountability every player is responsible for. Maybe I’m just unaware of what goes on behind the scenes as far as how bad sportsmanship is dealt with, but I frequently have to report people for stalling or quitting games. Often, people even send messages that are rude and immature. I know the app lets one know when their report against a player has been addressed, but I would like to know in what way that was done. And I would like to believe it goes beyond written warnings that have an expiration date as far as increased punishment goes. I believe more suspension/expulsion of accounts should take place. People who regularly report players need to feel assured that other players are held accountable for their unsportsmanlike actions. Otherwise even those players like myself start to feel jaded and feel like the only real tangible way to retaliate against bad sportsmanship is to do the same. I’m an idealist as far as how chess players should behave, even if they’re playing on an app. If that’s not realistic, I guess that’s tough for me, but that’s why I’m giving this app three stars.

Suggestion/ bug. In the game archive… is it possible for you guys to fix the order of the games you see in recent games list? For some reason when ever I hit the recent games tab I can see a few daily games I played months or ever over a year ago more resent that rapid games I played earlier in the day. If was to play 10 rapid games and then click play again that 10th game will now drop out of my recent games list and when I hit expand it won’t be in order and it drops down out of order and the 10 games I played months ago from different formats will pop up as more recent than a game I might have played an hour ago….. you could also fix this by being able to sort recent games by format just a funky bug

Yea sir. Yea sir yea we will be home in about an hour’s hour or so so I just have to go home and get some rest I need a ride home from work tomorrow I have no problem with you and my friend are ygoing to come home and get some food for me so I’ll call you in the morning I will be here for you guys so I will call you later love you guys so much for you guys too and I love it love love you love love mom so much and I will be there in about an half hour and a week so I’ll let it go y love you guys so I love love you guys so much and I haven’t even been in the car love love you guys so much love love you guys so much and I have no problem with that you love love and love your love and miss you so I love love you guys so much love and love love and miss love miss you love miss love you miss you love miss you miss all you miss you love you guys so much miss you miss miss you guys love no problem with it I’m not going

Documented checkmates. This is the best chess app out there hands down. I wish the tournaments were not strictly 2 min speed chess, but the live games are awesome. You can create a live game challenge, set-up your preferred timer, and immediately be playing anyone across the planet. If that challenger leaves the game, they have a limited amount of time before they auto-resign and you win points on your rating, and they loose points on theirs. The fact that chess players care so much about their ratings keeps abandonment low. Also these games are logged and can be reviewed at any time. My brother and I have a legendary rivalry in chess, and the fact that I can have documented checkmates on him is priceless. There are additionally many different tools to help you get better, such as lessons, tactics, puzzles, and drills. All of those tools are fantastic.

Really?. I liked this app for a while because I was trying to learn chess and even though theres some stuff I wasn’t able to use as much because of the subscription need, I was fine. My main problem is that for probably over a month of using this app and having no subscription, I was able to play against bots and do game reviews of them all I wanted. But then today as Im playing, I messed up an easy win and put it into stalemate so I tried to do the game review to see what good things I could’ve done throughout the earlier part of the match but then I got hit with a “you need premium to do more than one game review a day” or something similar. After that I immediately deleted the app because one of the best free things I had was snatched away and now Im supposed to pay over $100 a year? Forget about it.

Not the Helpful Virtual Tutor I Hoped For. I have some chess playing experience on and off through life but have never spent enough time to get beyond a middle-beginners level of play. So as I’m going through the progression of computer opponents I eventually get to the one I can’t beat. Perfect. Well, several days and dozens of losses later I still can’t beat that player…I can’t even mount an attack before I’m beat. Fine that’s how you learn but this app doesn’t really help you figure out how to get better. The analysis tools don’t seem to be anything but a step mode or a list of every reasonable move some of which are still classified as “inaccuracies”. If you’re an experienced chess player or you’re looking for a wide selection of chess puzzles to solve it seems good. But when it comes to figuring out why you can’t win you are still on your own. Sadly I can’t recommend it. And the worst part is, there aren’t any better apps than this that I’ve found. This may be the app that makes me decide that chess isn’t for me and I should finally give that up.

Mostly positive. This app is stellar! Usually downloading a free app grants you 1-2 options and makes you pay for the rest but not this app. Half of everything is open without pay. These features are also not bad they are clearly there to teach not to encourage you to spend money. There is more content here than mostly console games offer today and that is a pleasant surprise. There are some problems like how hard the UI is to navigate, it is like a maze with so many sub menus it’s angering but that’s a small nit pick. Another issue is the Custom games, which really aren’t customizable. I have only been able to move the pawns up one rank and switch out the rooks with bishops. Everything else I do reads the same message of “invalid position” it is so frustrating to want to play something fun and unique only to be stopped because it isn’t what the game wants. This needs to be improved but with the overall quality of the game I’m okay with some small issues.

Account banned with no explanation and then blocked on email.. So I’ve been playing chess since a little boy where I used to tutor in my local library and went on to play casually in high school and college. A few years ago, I found this app and thought it was great to play before going to bed. So imagine me, looking for a new app to casually play on before sleeping. After a bit of playing it, I received a message via email saying my account was banned due to suspicious activity. I asked what happened and why as I do not cheat and do not understand the energy to do so in a game like chess. I did not get an answer. Fast forward to today where the same thing happened. I was mid-tournament, where I randomly got my account banned again for that same auspicious activity. Again, I do not cheat in chess, why would I play to just cheat online? I do not understand that mentality but that’s neither here or there for what I am saying here. I replied to their email and I received a new “Message blocked” prompt. So it seems I was blocked from emailing them as well as with no explanation or reactivating of my new account. As I stated I love chess very much and this did feel like a lovely space to dive back into a hobby I used to love. I just can not recommend this app based on what has now happened to me twice…

Too many hackers on this app. Been using this app for over a year & have experienced far too many hackers. They manipulate the timer, the servers, the connection & even your movement on the board. Since downloading this app I have also been getting a lot of scammers calling me on my phone. Along with reports from Experian telling me my info has been found on the dark web. If you download this app it’s probably better to play against the computer & never ever play online against anyone. As I said there are far too many hackers on this app. Forget about them cheating to win, there is far more to be concerned with. When I reached out to support they claimed their app wasn’t being hacked at all but couldn’t explain how the app was working fine; connectivity wise, one minute & the minute I am about to win the match the connection somehow magically drops. What made it obvious I was cheated was the connection was fine immediately after? I’m talking within seconds. So if I were you I would not even bother with this app

Really good app but laggy lately. I’m been using this app for a number of years but with all the new players on the site the lag spikes have been getting on my nerves as I play 1 minute chess a lot. Sometimes I’ll lose over 100 rating points due to server lag where I’ll have 5 seconds left and it’ll auto end the match. Or my opponent will somehow have 20+ seconds on me even when I make instant moves for the entire match including premoves. Kind of annoying... actually really annoying but I guess that’s just a side effect of, “The queens gambit” tv show being a huge success and the recent massive exposure that Hikaru and other big chess streamers have had with bringing new players to the community. Oh well. Still giving it five stars.

Company that lost its values. The game is fun and it’s easy to find games and play but at a certain streak of wins I’ve noticed my time has been completely different than my opponents. Even with good wifi my time has ran significantly faster. I tested this by screen recording a game and noticed auto play moves still deducting a lot of time while my opponents move did not waste more than .1 seconds. At a certain point they cap you from gaining a higher scores as they pair you with someone 100 above or purposely crash out and not let you make a move. Update: they will delete your reviews if they are negative. This is my third review none being offensive just criticizing the hiccups in the game and all my comments have been deleted. This is obviously a pay to play game as people with payed icons always have higher scores and have significantly higher scores. A lot of of bugs still present. I deleted the game since it’s lost its value as an app and does not represent the world of chess.

Good player base, weird tracking. Unless you count their subscription thing which is easy for me to, ignore there are no 3rd party ads unlike their website. The player base is pretty good with a lot of nice people who just want to play the game. The fact though that they track your browsing data for advertising analytics is weird considering & like I said before there are no third party ads. Additionally there are accusations of Negative reviews being deleted so think on that as you will. The ranking system is nice but I feel that many players I face are vastly different in skill level then I. If you like chess and want to play online or you like to learn I suggest going to their website (admittedly with ads but cookies can be deleted easily) and just play around for a bit. If your ok with the tracking thing over ads then I would recommend.

Pieces jump one more square than chosen. Immediately I am noticing pieces not moving to where I have chosen. This happened two times on my 3rd game, and conveniently it only happened when I was mating or taking a great position to mate. The first time I gave the benefit of the doubt as suggesting the game made an accident, and decided to keep playing. A few moves later the very same thing happened. All of the other moves that were not for check mate or in position to mate on next move… these moves I had no problem having my piece move to the square I had chosen. But as for the times when the moves affected the outcome of the game, those suspiciously jumped one place farther than I intended. For it to happen twice in a game right at crucial moments is not user error. It’s not very fun to play a game out and have errors happen with space moment that were for victory. My fingers are not big, so it was not the way I moved the piece that put me a further square than my choice.

Fantastic - one bad bug. Absolutely incredible app! really, amazing. I have one reoccurring problem that makes the app unusable. I like to play on my iPad for the bigger screen, but if i then use the app on my iPhone it makes it so that the app cannot open passed the loading screen on one or the other devise. it will sit there for hours and never load. the only way to fix is to delete the app and reinstall it but then i have to sign in again and reset my custom board themes etc. Super annoying. I’m guessing that this is a bug related to their effort to prevent people from playing on two devises at the same time to prevent cheating, but its not very helpful cause if i wanted to do that i would just create a different account.
