Labor and Contraction Timer App Description & Overview

What is labor and contraction timer app? Easily time labor contractions. A handy one-button interface to start and stop the timer, it also lists the duration and spacing of the last contraction, the average and count for the last 20 minutes, and the last hour. The app times contractions from the start of one to the start of the next, as recommended by childbirth coaches. This app has been downloaded by over 150,000 people to assist with the birth of their children.

The 20 minute average lets you see if your contractions are increasing or decreasing relative to the last hour. The hour average and count lets you decide when to go to the hospital or birthing center.

Record the intensity of each contraction and use the handy charts to view the intensity, count, and spacing of contractions over time. Record notes with each contraction and review them in the history list. Edit or delete past contractions to fix typos or adjust the start time or duration of each one.

Email your list of contractions to yourself or your birthing team to monitor progress or document the event.

The app remembers all data and whether you were in the middle of a contraction or not between launches, so you can jump back and forth between this and your favorite game or another app to distract you during and between contractions.

Awesome!. Love this app, I'm a birth doula and it's a great tool for me! The only draw back is that it doesn't take it into account that you're taking a break from timing without erasing everything. Also the charts don't really offer a good picture of the moms progress, but you dont need that anyway, it's perfect for the basics! I use it at every birth!

Fantastic.. Gave us great data and accuracy when timing contractions, which was critical during a high-stress process (first-time parents). The nurses loved it, and our doula also used it at certain stages. Possible improvements: deleting past contractions other than last (for fat-finger episodes), and a graph with best-fit line (for us statistics dorks). Really though, top-notch.

Fair. My wife has been having contractions all day and we have been using this app, it works just great. However, I accidently pushed start and you can't delete any entries, so it threw the numbers off. Please fix!!!

Nice stats but.... frustrating that you can't delete an entry if you made a mistake. You can reset all data, but then you have to start from scratch!

Worked great!. Unlike one I had to pay for, this one worked in the background. Worked great!

Great assistance for delivery. My wife and I really appreciated this app. The timer app is nice and straight forward, allowing me to focus on her. You can delete erroneous contraction information. Also, one of the top reviews is not accurate. The app reports contractions from beginning to beginning. I also really liked the 20 minute and 60 minute averages. It allows you to see whether contractions are quickening and / or lengthening. Really useful!

Can't reset. The program does not allow you to reset the tracking!! I will look for a better app.

Worked for me!. Downloaded this coincidentally the day I went into labor (early). Didn't know what labor felt like! Had pain, then timed the next one... And the next one... This timer worked great (but wish I could erase mistakes, like the double taps -1 second labor? I don't think so!) for when I realized I should call the doctor, and for questions she asked. Easy to use, and free.

Great. I second the first reviewer - reliable and intuitive

Crashes!!. I like the idea of this app & simplicity, but crashes when pressing the 'about' button or the 'view contractions' button. Not helpful. Fix these bugs!

A Must Have!!!. Loved this app!!! I was able to time my contractions in the middle of the night myself allowing my husband to sleep until I was sure it was time to go. Wonderful & free!!!

Straightforward and good. Did the job for timing contractions for our 2nd. See no reason to pay for a "better" app, when in the middle of labor I can't see stopping to take notes -- having one simple button and everything on one screen is the way to go. Only feature I'd suggest is adding a simple stopwatch at the top in small font that shows the elapsed time since the start of the last contraction. Just to have a way to anticipate when the next one may be coming. Thanks for providing this simple app for free!

Great app. Works great. Very user friendly. Great ways to view data. Wife and love it.

Best app out there. I've downloaded a ton, I couldn't find one with everything I wanted until I got this app. Most important to me was the time elapsed since last contraction feature. I also like that the contractions are easily editable and the graphs are great. Probably the best app for contraction timing out there. The only thing that could improve is a snazzier UI ;)

Good.... This app was pretty good for being free. I wish it kept count of how many contractions I had, which I ended up buying one that did.

It's a shame there aren't any ratings or reviews for this perfect tool!. I'm guessing no one has rated it because you only need it for a small window of time, then you deliver a baby and are swept off into a whirlwind of parenthood. I'm here because today my baby is turning 1 year old and I'm my reminiscing about this day, I think back to waking up at 845am and feeling a cramp and going, "I should probably download some kind of contraction timer app." This app was simple to use, it helped me track as my contractions got more and more intense & close together. Thanks for the great tool!

Love this app. Definitely worth the purchase! I love the charts and all the extra features. Very nice to have on hand.

Perfect!. Used this last nite. Easy to use. Allowed me to concentrate on my wife instead of having to remember or write down times. Made laboring a little bit easier and less stressful.

Great app!. Worth the 99 cents for the full app. I was able to log and see charted contraction frequency and intensity in a snap which made it easy to tell when things were ready to roll (3rd pregnancy so I knew the drill).

Works great!. It's a free app, folks. But it gets 5 stars because it works great, is easy to use, and does exactly what it promises. We used it during labor, and it was extremely helpful in deciding when to head to the hospital!

OK but bare bones. While the interface is simple, it's almost too simple. I like the visual data that Stage1 offers, as well as the ability to delete individual contractions in many other apps. Also, other apps let you write notes for a contraction. OK, but very basic.

Exactly what we were looking for. We tried several contraction timers, and this one was by far the best. Features we found here that were hard to find in other apps: 1) Timer measures from start of one contraction to the start of the next. 2) You can edit the length of contractions, not just delete 3) Undo stop 4) Email results 5) Helpful, insightful charts This app was incredibly useful and definitely worth the purchase.

Awesome. Awesome app. Took all the guess work out of timing duration and frequency. I was able to call the doctor and arrive at the hospital at the right time with the data from this app.

Worked great!. My contractions started at 2 minutes a part and the only reason I would know that was because of this app! Contractions seriously feel like they go on forever but in reality they only lasted between 30 seconds to a minute which I also would have never known if I hadn't purchased this app. If you seriously want to keep track of your contractions but this app. However the nurses at triage weren't at all interested in looking at it so if you are wanting something to show medical staff I wouldn't bother.

Worked great. Worked like a charm for keeping up with my contractions.

Worked perfectly!. Used it last week during the labor of my daughter. Was way easier than writing down with pen and paper. My husband just pressed the button and then could get back to concentrating on me. The times I needed to record it, it didn't take too much brain power. Was helpful to be able to edit for times we messed something up. I even emailed my early contraction record to my husband at work to tell it was time for him to come home. App helped up decide when to leave for hospital, which was 45 mins away. All in all, I'm not sure of differences in paid vs free, but download paid version and support the developer! Believe me, this app will be invaluable when you are ready to use it!!

Very useful. Reliable and intuitive. Very happy with the results

Baby #2. our second baby is on her way and this app is 2 for 2 reliable

Handy!. Gave me something to do in early labor, which is a big help. The graphs are a good morale booster, showing labor progressing. This app got us to the hospital on time. Contractions weren't strong, so if we had been going by how they felt, the baby would have been born in a cab. Was also handy to be able to send the triage nurses an easy record of how long I'd been in labor and the spacing of contractions. Finally, I liked being able to wave my phone screen at my husband instead of having to say that I was having a contraction, because I didn't want to talk through them.

Does not start or stop contractions.. Great app. The only issue I have, is the buttons are misleading. I clicked "Start Contraction" and "Stop Contraction", and it did nothing to affect my wife's contractions.

Did exactly what I needed it for. Easy to use and read I used it to figure out when to goto the hospital. It was so much easier then using a timer.

Works great!. I downloaded this application right before my wife began having contractions and it worked great. It kept accurate count of how long the contractions were, as well as how many she had. Easy to use.

Simply works!. Used it 3 times (on false alarms, 2 weeks and 1 week before actual labor) it helped me avoid going to the hospital before it was time. When I finally went I got there with a 5 dialation. That was perfect! The only thing I'd change is the edit button which is somewhat hidden (took a long time to find) and maybe add an option to ignore mistakes ( like 2sec ones). Otherwise, thanks a lot!!

Works great!. Just used the app before the birth of our third daughter and it worked like a charm. I have a couple of suggestions. 1) Change the color of the Start/Stop button when a contraction is in progress. 2) Require that the button is pushed for 1 second before it registers the click. It's easy to clock it accidentally when you focus on the labor.

Worked for me!. Downloaded in a hurry while my wife was in labor. Did what it was supposed to do. Didnt need frills. Thanks!

Ok for being free.. Can't delete individual entries if you made a mistake, not visually appealing or informative.

Awesome!. That is all.

Simple & effective. Much easier than a stopwatch. No learning curve. Doesn't seen to time from beginning to beginning, which is what our hospital wanted. Thanks!

Works as advertised. I only used the timer and did not try any of the other settings. It worked great. The running average was nice and the interface is simple and easy to use. I won't be needing this again for a while. Lol. I liked a couple of suggestions I saw on here such as changing the start stop button color during a contraction making it easy to see at a glance if it started. The other one I like was the idea of making a one second button push to avoid accidentally starting and stopping. This app works great without these changes. I greatly appreciate the time and effort in making this available.

Easy and helpful. This app was great, even as the contractions got unbearable it was simple to use and gave me an additional focal point to get through the contraction.

Great!. Worked great. Used it last night. Came in very handy. Thanks! My new daughter appreciates the help

Super simple. It's all you need. Using it right now!

Weak.. I'm actually suprized Apple allowed such basic apps in their store, especially ones which contain upselling references to paid applications. This has the feel of something thrown together in an afternoon, my wife tried it for less than a minute, but found nothing useful about it. She also said a 20 minute average is really not that much use when tracking contractions. There are much better tracker/timers out already all of which have had a lot more care, visual appeal and functionality put into them. I find it very suspicious that this app has more than a 1 star average. Just who is doing this voting?

Good basic contraction timer. This timer allows you to track the average length of each contraction as well as the interval between contractions over the past twenty minutes and, more importantly, the pat hour. According to our OB and our birthing class instructor this is exactly what we should be measuring to make the determination of when to come to the hospital. The only thing this lacks is more detailed history in case your contractions start reducing. But it will certainly indicate when you've reached 5-1-1 contractions

Did the job perfectly. For 15 hours!. My wife's fav part: editable (if u miss one or forget to hit stop!) The right tool for the job.

Great app in time of emergency. This app really saved my behind when I was not prepared for my second child. My wife started contracting and before her nxt contraction it was installed and running. Basic & simple with no frills, just EXACTLY what I needed. You can easily charge form this and it would be worth it.

Battery hungry?. It'd be nice to be able to stop the timer so it doesn't run in the background using up battery when it's not needed without having to reset contractions.

Great app. One less thing to worry about in this stressful time! Top app thanks

Frustrating!. I gave up using it- I had to unlock my phone each time I wanted to record the start or end of a contraction... I nearly threw my phone across the room in frustration! As if you don't have enough to worry about at that time... I found just looking at the clock was better. If this was fixed it may be useful.

Worked great thank you!. Simple, easy to use. Made it so easy to keep track of my wife's contractions and keep midwives updated! Only criticism is that it doesn't prevent iPhone sleeping and had to unlock phone to mark start or end of contraction. Would be perfect otherwise but there may be some way you can change iPhone settings to stop it sleeping as often. If so this is all you could need!

Too unstable. Crashes consistently and reliably on 3gs during testing, no way am I going to trust this during our actual labor. Which is a real shame because it's otherwise such a well designed and useful app :(

Top app.. Nice and easy to use.

Ms. Total life saver when I was in labour, so easy to use and allows my mid wife to know about the timings etc.

Excellent. J'ai adoré l'app. Facile d'utilisation dans un moment où rien ne doit être compliqué! C'est vraiment très utile.

Very useful. Bought this at 4 in the morning when I thought contractions were starting but was far too unawares to do time math. Excellent app thank you so much

Nice. Has an intuitive interface.

Fundamentally flawed. The app fails to deliver its most fundamental purpose: calculate the average time between contractions. My wife had twelve contractions in an hour and the app mysteriously calculated the average time between contractions to be 8 minutes. We put too much trust in the app and arrived late to the hospital. You do the math.

My review. It is a really good app when you have a sister in full labour with a husband who can't time on a watch Lol.

Excellent app!. Used it during the delivery of my baby just last week. It's a simple, uncomplicated program that tells you just what you need to know -- when each contraction starts, ends, begins again. It was very helpful while in the throws of labouring agony.

Worked great. This app worked great for my wife and I. It's so easy to use. I found it much easier than using a watch.

Does what it says!. Simple, easy, not complicated! Thats it!
