WOW!!👍🏾. This is incredible app to learn and understand French. Especially for me due to me having to take a course for high school this is very helpful. They provided the Verbs, phrases, translation, definition, and examples to better understand what is being taught or what you don’t understand.

The Best Language App I’ve Ever Used. I have used (attempted) three other language apps but very soon grew bored with them. I tried Duo Lingo after I was informed about it. After starting it (fully prepared to be disappointed) I was hooked. Now I can’t stop. The course is so compelling that it draws me in every day.

Large number of entries and easy to use!. I love this app for its ease of use and the many entries it contains. I like that it lists additional uses for the word (such as in phrases or idioms), and I can hear the pronunciation as well.

Problem with text translation. The app was just great, I had been using it for more than a year now, without updating to the latest version. Yesterday it began to break when I press the translator button, so I decided to update it, and I did but the same problem kept existing, so I deleted it and redownloaded it, it worked fine but now it doesn’t translate texts in the translator, even the plural or feminine forms of the nouns, I don’t know why. I hope support section can contact me to solve this problem.

Je l’adore!. This app is incredibly helpful. I’m just learning French and it’s the perfect quick reference, whether I’m just curious about a word, if I need to hear pronunciation, or if I need to conjugate a verb. It’s helpful for phrases and actual spoken language, including colloquialisms and even swear words. My journey en français wouldn’t be the same without it!

Extremely Useful for French Learners/Speakers.. This is an extraordinarily helpful app. I’ve used in constantly while learning French. I used it in France multiple times to quickly look up a word before speaking to someone and having this app often made the difference in being understood. The verb conjugation this app offers is invaluable on its own.

The Best French App. This app includes more reliable features than any of the others I’ve tried. I especially like the related versions and alternate uses of words. Seeing words in an expression can be extremely helpful! The customer service people are great, very helpful.

Love this dictionary!. I’m 70 years old and trying to refresh my High School French and tutor my granddaughter! Memorizing is difficult at this age. Super!. I’ve been using this service/app for years, and I find it so useful. I especially like all the examples and idiomatic phrases that are shared with the word definitions. I also really like the search functionality — I get to see a lot of related words at once in the autofill, this helps me to find the right word, OR learn even more about the word I’m looking for (its various forms and uses).

My Favorite French dictionary!. This is a great French dictionary. I studied French in high school and college, and I try to keep up with it through music, news, and light reading. I inevitably forget words here and there or see new ones that I need to learn, and this app is always there to help me out right away. Highly recommended! :)

Broad-based app. This app translates and more. It provides the meaning in certain contexts. Then gives examples so that you begin to see how the word conveys the thought. You discover some of the colloquial uses. Fantastic. It makes you think about the language, not just memorize words. Mots.

Good and remote reliable than google translate. It’s very useful since it also contains some slang terms used in French and is more reliable than good translate.

I love it. This dictionary has many wonderful and useful features and I am still discovering more. I use it all the time.

What would I do without this App?. I use this app daily. It’s my trusted source to study conjugations of French verbs. I also like its dictionary where it gives common phrases that gives one a better sense of how the word is used. Lately I am using the flash cards to practice pronunciation.

Brest off-line translator. I am a US traveler. I have been traveling in France for two weeks. All day long I’ve been using Google Translate and Maps to help me with French and GPS directions. Google Translate and Maps requires an internet connection, which, on the all-day-long fly, requires data connection with roaming charges. After about 8 days of travel in France, I received a text message that I had reached my foreign data limit, so my service was instantly terminated. I couldn’t make any phone calls, no texts, no emails, absolutely no internet! When I finally reached (not easy task) Consumer Cellular, I found out I had already used $800 megabytes worth of roaming French data. So I was dead in the water in France. I quickly paid up so I could get French internet roaming service. WOW! French roaming charges are wicked expensive!! That’s when I discovered Translate + which does everything Google Translate does, BUT OFF LINE!!!!!!! I wish I had known T+ from the beginning! My only issue with T+: I cannot figure out how to slow down T+’s vocal output which helps me pronounce French words and phrases.

Great app! But could use some additional features!. I love the app, the option to hear the pronunciation of word in addition to the definition is great, especially when learning the language. However, the option to look up the word in English, then find the French translation would be a good feature to help the user find the word they want and strengthen their skills. A list of conjugations would also be great!

Best by far!!!. This is the best dictionary translator app! It is far more accurate than any other apps or websites I have used and is incredibly easy to use. Instead of just offering a word or two as translation, it gives contextual usage definitions, which is critical in foreign languages! It also conjugates verbs and offers phrase translations. Additionally, it has some ways to improve your language skills like flash cards and quizzes. The free version is great and the ads are not overly distracting.

Best French to English app for fast word lookup. I really appreciate how this app can work offline and how easy to use its interface is. It’s the only app I could use anywhere in france (because it doesn’t need wifi) even mid-conversation, and it’s very helpful for quick word lookup while I’m doing reading or writing in French.

Formidable. Translator+ is very easy to use, gives relevant information quickly, and lays out that information logically.

Fast, clean interface includes verb conjugations. The Vidalingua app has a clear, user friendly interface that makes finding French and English words from the same location super easy. Translations often include various cases as needed; eg pronoun, interjection, question, insult, emotion (swear words), etc. The phrase translator is great with a voice recognition option. The free/advertising option includes many verb conjugations, and is not too intrusive but after a year I decided this app is worth the low annual subscription.

Wonderful app. I have been using this app for a long time. I speak and teach French, and I find it very useful. There are so many things I like about it. The dictionary is quite exhaustive pronunciation is great, many verb conjugations, useful phrases and lots more. Following is an update to my old review. The developer not only fixed the problem that I wrote about below, but he has added lots more words. Everything works great now. Just tap any word or phrase and it will pronounce it for you. I highly recommend any app by Ascendo. Old review: This app is just wonderful, but recently it stopped pronouncing words. I contacted the developer, and they responded immediately. Apparently Google changed something without notifying them, and that caused the problem. This is how to fix this issue on an iPhone: Tap the speaker icon at the top right of any dictionary word screen and turn off the switch for "Use better quality online voices when available." Then make sure the volume is turned up and try again. This totally solved the problem.

Handy, easy. I’ve had no trouble using this handy little app. When I come across a French word I don’t know, it’s easy to search and find the English version, and vice versa.

Excellent app for learning French. We like to spend time in France at least once a year. It makes it more interesting to know a bit of French. This app allows me to translate things on the fly and learn travel phrases too.

Fantastic French app. I'm studying in Australia. My English is pretty good but there is an occasional word that I need to look up. I can enter my own phrases in the app which is nice.

Translator no longer works. Was very impressed when I first used this app a couple of years ago but the translation page no longer works. This was the page I found the most useful and so would most other language learners

Very good. Very easy to use and understand. There is premium but all you’ll probably need is on the free version. Overall a good and useful app.

Apps. I am learning French at the moment, and I found this very useful when at times I forget some of the words and I need to know the meaning right away. But it would be nice to be able to change the voice to suit ie: male to female and vice versa depending if a woman or man is trying to learn.

Nice App. This app works quite well and seems to have most things included including a conjugator. It needs better phrases added to its phrases list. The ones there are okay but a bit limited. Not worth the extra money. Could not undo the phrases purchase which I considered not worth the cost. That being said, a very good application. It is limited by Apple's limited operating system on the IPad 1. Not much can be done about that.

Very helpful. This has been a helpful tool for starting to revise and remember the French I once knew. The links work well, but it would also be better to have the full dictionary, as quite a lot of the words I wanted from my viewing of French News on TV weren't available. The French pronunciation is 'charmante'. The English pronunciation sounds a bit like a depressed and flat Aussie. I didn't try out any of the note or photography tools.

Great but some errors. I found the app very useful when learning but I realized one cannot accept it is correct 100% of the time - problem is not knowing when it is wrong.

Was great until my plus functionality disappeared. I’ve provided proof of purchase, have answered all the questions asked. I just want access to what I paid for. Only half the verb senses are visible and the reason I pay for plus is to access subjonctif.

French English travel dictionary. I found this app quite useful while on holiday in Vietnam. It's got a nice feature I haven't seen before which lets you add notes and images to dictionary entries. I used it to take pictures of menu items and jot down a few a things. Looking forward to rediscovering my entires on next trip. Extended dictionary is worth it.

Very useful but room for improvement. Although I haven’t been using the app very much of late, returning to it I have found it to be another useful adjunct to my resources. I would like to see a wider range of phrases added to the paid version and the ability to copy phrases when selecting them to ‘speak’. I can’t be sure, but I think I spotted some oddities in the English phrases. Well priced so recommended.

Best app for French English. I like that internet connection isn't required for the app, makes it more accessible in daily life. There are certain words that it seems unlikely to ever be used, a condensed, shorted dictionary and a comprehensive dictionary option would be great, so for general searching you could use the smaller version and for more obscure searches the comprehensive. Other than that, it's great!

Excellent. Works as advertised. Can't ask for much else. A very handy tool to have in your belt when in France.

John. A very good dictionary. I like the mixture of English and French words in the same place rather than having separate English to French and French to English dictionaries. Having all the conjugated entries is also useful, but sometimes I have noticed the infinitive entry is missing and this entry contains the meaning of the word.

Mixed up prononciation. RUBBISH! Sometimes when I click pronounce on the French words, it mixed up & pronounces in English (the woman’s voice) and I have to click 2-3 times until the correct voice i.e. French pronunciation finally appears Update (Aug 2019) this is the worst paid app I have ever purchased (bought it 4 years ago) it used to be much better, now beside the above problem, the app often crash, so annoying when I’m at class and needed to use it, most of the time I can’t access it, I’m now using the FREE app called WR (wordreference) app. This vidaligua app a total rip off

Quite good but limited. I thought this dictionary was quite good until I read a French story with some unfamiliar words. Not a single one of them is in this doctionary and they are not obscure or colloquial. My other reservation is with the quiz. It's a great concept but for two things: firstly, a large percentage of the words are almost identical to English, or the same, which kind of defeats the purpose. Secondly, for others you struggle to make a connection, or else have to second-guess which meaning they have in mind for a word, and sometimes there are two possibilities. On a very positive note, the verb conjugation section is excellent and the app is worth having for that alone.

Handy app but not comprehensive. A handy dictionary you can keep in your pocket. But does not have all the words I have wanted to look up and lacks some key grammatical information, eg. if the word is a transitive or intransitive verb. So maybe good for the traveller, but not great for the French student.

Thanks. Extremely useful French language app. Better than the vast majority. Great that you can type in the verb form in whatever tense form and it gives the infinitive. From there you can tap to give definition and full conjugation. Tap on the verb and you have the opportunity to hear it pronounced. Excellent.

great french dictionary. Fantastic dictionary app. Conjugations are very useful. I find the pronunciation to be quite jarring sometimes and it is triggered without confirmation by clicking on a word/phrase, hence 4 stars instead of 5. I think it would be nice if you had to click to request pronunciation given it is quite loud and robotic.

Very handy. Handy app. Great that it can be used off line although it is true that there are some words that are not in the system. A really basic phrase book would be a great addition.

Peter. Of the various foreign language to English dictionaries I have tried, the Ascendo, both French & Italian, are the best I have found. The voice record and playback is especially useful, as is the unique way on which they list both languages together in the index. My compliments to the makers of this excellent app, and many thanks.

Very thorough. The button to go from an entry straight to the conjugation table is excellent. But sometimes entries are missing (maybe due to the 1990 spelling reformations).

Great app for students of french.. I am learning french as an adult so find this app really useful. I tend to only use the dictionary and verb lists so can not comment on the other features. Recommended though! I couldn't do my assignments without it...

This is great!. Overall, this app is fantastic and really does provide a lot of information. They're also really attentive to reading people's feedback and replying.

Good BUT be aware of conjugation mistakes. I really like this app. I think it's the best one so far inspite of the mistakes in it. I like it as it has pronunciation for words as well as for the verb conjugation. However, there are flaws in it that you may consider fixing or letting students know. Your reflexive verbs conjugation is inaccurate and those special ones verbs like falloir and pleuvoir. Hopefully you will find a way to fix it.

Cross referencing. It's good. I am using it constantly. It would be better if sections were cross referenced, eg when I look up a verb in the dictionary I would like it to carry the word across to the verb list. As it is I have to rekey the word in each section. J

Five stars!!!. Amazingly useful app! Straightforward and easy to navigate. It even comes with pre-translated phrases, voice and photo translators - really handy if you’re visiting a foreign country. Also, quizzes and flashcards which are helpful if you’re trying to learn a language. You can even use it directly from your Apple watch without having to use your phone. I’d say this is my favourite feature as I don’t always have access to my phone especially when I’m at work so this feature is very convenient for me. 💯

Slightly confusing. It seems that, while most translations are correct, alternate meanings etc. are shown in such a way as to make some entries appear terribly wrong. However, this is mostly an interface problem and not a content problem. N.B. «comment vous appellez-vous», while literally meaning "What do you call yourself?", still serves the same function as "What is your name?". Just wanted to clarify.

The verb conjugation is worth it. The app is simple and has good tools such as the verb conjugation (paid version has all conjugations). One drawback is the flash cards do not work very well.

Beware. I actually like this app, and find it useful enough to have actually paid for the app so I don’t get ads. Unfortunately despite paying for the app, I am still subjected to ads. I would like to ask for my money back, but there is no information to contact anyone that I can find. So beware… don’t pay because you get nothing different. Otherwise a very useful app. Upping my review to 3 stars, did what the developer suggested, working now. Just too bad I had to do that, shouldn’t have to. The help function is not working in the app, just circles and circles, doesn’t go anywhere. Clearly still some bugs to fix here!

Mon application favorite pour la langue Anglaise. J’utilise cette application depuis des années et je n’ai jamais été bloqué dans mes recherches et mes révisions. J’aime bcp la façon dont les rubriques sont agencées, grammaire, verbes, conversations en fonction des situations auxquelles l’on peut faire face. Bien qu’il n’y ait pas toutes les situations possibles mais je trouve que l’essentiel y est. Je l’ai recommandée à mes amis et aux étudiants qui apprennent l’anglais que je connais.

Good Free French Dictionary. This is a really good free app for learning French or English with dictionary, travel phrases and verb conjugations. The dictionary covers basic language. I found a few words missing but then I noticed an info icon appears in search bar to let you know if they are available in paid versions. I ended up getting the paid version instead of the extended version and it's quite comprehensive.

I started with the free version and then purchased the full. There are a lot of French/English dictionaries for the iPhone and I am, of course, not familiar with many of them. The Ascendo dictionary tempts you with a shorter, free version, which itself is very useful. I found it so useful, in fact, that I bought the full version. At $10 it's not the cheapest app around, but I feel it is good value compared to, say, the Collins dictionary -undoubtably more comprehensive but probably more than I need for everyday use at $25. The Ascendo, then, i good value and very, very useful.

Good talking dictionary. Good French English dictionary with audio pronunciation. I wasn't able to get audio working at first but wrote to them and it was the ringer that was turned off. All is well now.

Very helpful. Works offline, verb conjugations are nice. Just missing a few words. I like that you can type in a word either English or French without specifying what you are looking for and you get the answer anyways.

Great tool for translating French phrases. I have a French dictionary for translating words, but the dictionary is not suited for translating phrases word-by-word. This app does a great job of doing just that.

Really helpful French Translator!!. I was born in France and lived there until I was 5 years old. So my French is pretty good but I occasionally need to look up a word or two. I tried several apps and settled on this one. It is the only app I found that has modern vocabulary including acronyms like lol which is mdr, mort de rire in French. The developer regularly publishes blog articles with new vocabulary they add to the dictionary. I noticed they added menu items that you would find in a French restaurant and French idioms. For me, that’s the type of vocabulary that makes a difference, not just common vocabulary that you find in any dictionary. There are a few words I haven’t found, so I’m not saying it’s perfect, but even then you can do an online lookup in other resources like wiktionary which is really helpful. In this last version I noticed you can tap on the microphones in the search bar to do a voice lookup. Nice touch and makes things a bit faster to use. I also discovered that you can add your own stuff to the phrasebook. It already has a fair amount of sentences in it but I often pick up new ones when I travel in France and it’s really cool to be able to add them. And if you add sentences to the phrasebook, they appear in the dictionary too. Very slick. Another feature I appreciate is being able to limit flashcards to dictionary favorites. That way I can just study my own list of words instead of random words I already know. It took me a while to stumble across this feature. It’s in the settings icon on the flashcards screen. All in all this app gives great value for beginners and people with a good knowledge of French. Frequent updates make it better and better. Definitely worth it.
