Just set up a small bird feeder in your yard and start discovering the beautiful species that thrive in your area. iBird Yard Plus is completely up to date with the 2017 AOU supplement and contains hundreds of bird songs and calls you can play from the app to attract birds to your feeders. iBird Yard Plus also takes a major leap forward with “Time of Day” filtering available in version 10.06. You can now search for birds by activity levels during day or night (Cathemeral), dawn and dusk (Crepuscular), during the day (Diurnal) or during the night (Nocturnal).

Also included in this version is our new Owls of Mexico and Central America package, including all the hard to find details which iBird is so well known for: illustrations with field marks, range maps, songs and calls and much more.

With iBird’s Percevia™ matching system you can search for birds by color, location, shape, habitat or any one of 37 identification attributes to find your bird. iBird's comprehensive species pages have hundreds of built-in bird song recordings, professional high-resolution bird photographs, hand-drawn composite illustrations and range maps with detailed migration paths.

** NOTE: If you would like to try out iBird without spending any money, check the newly released iBird LITE Free Guide to Birds of North America. It contains all the features of paid iBird Ultimate, including BAM, but contains just 50 species. And it’s completely FREE. **

Complete and easy. Very user friendly and accurate. I use the recorded bird songs to call them in.

Keep prompting to buy more upgrades. Deleted this app. So annoying. Not good enough to out up with.

Audobon. This haas brought back so many memories for me, from the Boy Scout badge I earned back in the 60’s….to my back yard feeders i keep year -round for my feathered living fossils…thank you!

??? What the heck. By and all most of the Ibird guides are great. This one shows birds for my ares that do not show up here except under very , very rarely times and does not show birds that are common. The White pelican does not show up down here often but the Brown pelican is very common. This guide shows the white here but not the brown. I can go on with others but I will not now

Elegant resource and easy to use.. This is truly a valuable program for anyone interested in identifying and learning more about birds. The depth of information is vast and interesting. Having the option of identifying the bird sounds opens up a new arena for identifying and understanding which birds are in the area. With the portability of the iPhone, this program provides access to information easy and fun. The illustrations are detailed and beautiful.

Useful apps. I love this app. I love the link to the journal. It makes documenting so easy. I started seeing a hummingbird come around and wanted to take pictures. I played the hummingbird call repeatedly and then shut it off and within seconds two birds showed up at the feeder. I am also able to learn to recognize the birdcall through listening to the call on the app.

Good App. This app is really good for identifying the birds that come in my yard. I especially like using the the slideshow of the favorites list to learn to distinguish similar-looking birds. Sounds also help with this.

Easy to use. Very handy and easy to use. Lots of good information.

A good app. This is a very good app if you are looking for a basic bird guide for North America. It only has 234 birds on in which is why it is cheaper than the other versions. So again, it's basic but will get the job done. I live in the midwest and that ibird section alone has 595 birds in it so that is definatly a big jump from 234. Personaly I would get your section like "south" "midwest" "west" "north" etc... but this is a good way to get used to the program and to start off!

Love it!. So helpful when a new bird is spotted

Choice of birds. Does not have all my backyard birds I live in South East USA

It's about time!. This is a wonderful application for identifying the birds in your backyard. Each bird not only has beautiful hand drawn illustrations and extensive ID information but in many cases photos as well songs and several plumage varieties. The search feature is just plain awesome and easy to use. And, the best part is that unlike my heavy field guide, it’s always with me so I can quickly identify that unknown bird that visits my feeders. I just got the new update and am really impressed with the new additions. Tons of new photos and if I need further ID information I can now go to flickr for even more photos and while I rarely had a crash with this program now it seems to be crash free wtih this new update. I am exctied to also be able to check my favorite birds! I recommend this download 100%, you won’t be disappointed.

Not a birder, but a bird lover!. I live in the boonies in the PNW, having grown up in So. Cal. I have SO many birds passing through my yard - from owls and bald eagles to little yellow finch-like things that flit so fast that I haven't been able to see more than a blur of yellow! Someday, I'll see enough to narrow down my search, and I know this app will help me identify it. I've identified one frequent visitor by its morning-song! The perfect app for anyone who looks at the world with a "what's that?" on their lips!

Love it. As I write this on my deck in Champaign IL, where after a spell of molten heat we are enjoying California weather and I am sipping a New Zealand Sauvignon blanc, the ruby-throated hummers are in the last week or so of bulking up, various others (cardinals, sparrows) are crowding around willing me to put out the peanut butter-suet-cornmeal-oatmeal mix I call bird crack, the dog (samoyed white as snow) is sleeping quietly, and what better companion could I have but this wonderful iPhone app?

Sound stopped working with iPhone X. I updated my app to use with my iPhone X and now the sound no longer works. I works in my old iPad, but not the new iPhone X. Annoying.

iBird Apps Are The Best !. I have tried all the various bird identification apps and find all the iBird apps from the Mitch Waite Group to be the most comprehensive, detailed and easiest to use. Photos and illustrations are top notch. Voice recording clear and very helpful. Rich in details and always well-researched and accurate. You can't go wrong with any of their products. Money well spent :-)

Love this app. I like the multiple ways to ID a bird-shape, color, sound, area. These feathered friends are sometimes fleeting or hidden and reveal only a hint on who they are. A lot of work goes into creating a good database.

iBird Explorer Backyard. Very nice program. The pictures are good as are the bird calls, decriptions, and related information. I like that the listings can be regionalized. We spend lots of time in Texas, Ohio, Oregon, and North Carolina. The program allows you to search birds found in the general geographic region - a real plus. I do, however, look forward to the next step: all birds native to North America. We really would enjoy the addition of raptors, shore birds, etc.

Great app!!. Like it so far, been photographing birds lately to fine tune my camera skills and suddenly found myself developing a strong interest in them. Ruby-Throated Hummingbird amazes me, although some birds are not in this app, such as a Cardinal which I have a big interest in, probably will be added in time. Love it so far. No complaints. I'm back 7 days later and this app is awesome, unbelievable, I'm really enjoying it to the fullest. Last Sunday, just before dark, I was playing different bird songs to my friend when suddenly a mocking bird got out of bed and started defending his territory, flew inches over our head, and then the cardinals started raising cane, darndest thing I've ever seen. Recommend to anyone, you surely can't go wrong.

Bird watching. I love the app and I love learning new things about birds and I found out about new birds that I didn’t even know about the only thing that I hate is the bird watching because the bird watching because the birds are so fast it’s Dumb but otherwise it’s awesome😇.

This app keeps getting better!. The developers just added nearly 100 birds to this app-I was really happy to see the Red-tailed Hawk was added, as were a number of shorebirds. I can't say enough good things about the sounds, most birds have multiple recordings now so you can hear both songs and calls. I'd buy this app for the sounds alone. I found the manual easy to understand and navigate, and a great addition. I have several good field guides, and they're all collecting dust thanks to this app. I am amazed at the wealth of information available for each bird, and I'd recommend this app to anybody. Hands down this is my favorite app, I love the photos, illustrations, facts, sounds, notes and favorites, and everything else.

Top Shelf - A "Must Have" for all iBirders!. Very polished, and quite extensive. This is definitely a “Must Have” iPhone app if you enjoy feeding and/or watching birds. I’m definitely waiting for the “Plus” version, since I have quite a few birds that commonly visit my yard that are not included in this version. I would like to see more of the Raptors, I have many that visit on a daily basis, and although they aren’t eating from the feeders, they do manage the occasional snack (usually a Rock Dove or Mourning Dove). Specific Raptors that visit are Coopers Hawk, Red Tail Hawk, Sharp Shinned Hawk, American Kestrel, and the occasional Golden Eagle. Conspicuously absent are Brewers Blackbirds, which are among the “usual suspects.” A few of the listings lack photos. Male, female, juvenile descriptions are lacking in others. I thoroughly enjoy using this app. In spite of these omissions, it is very handy to have this information instantly available. Thanks to the recorded calls, I’ve finally been able to figure out which bird is singing outside our bedroom window in the morning. Well worth the price. I eagerly await the upgraded “Plus” version.

Love it 💗💗. I'm strictly a backyard watcher . I don't do long bird watching trips etc, so this limited selection of birds is perfect for my needs. The layout is intuitive and I can find a bird fairly easily. I go to this before my Peterson guide. It's got the bird songs too – usually a few different ones for each bird, and they're long enough to get a good sense of what to listen for. I first bought it for my iPod touch and thought it was pretty nice, but I recently got a new iPad and wow! Everything is gorgeous. If you get it, take some time to explore around in it. There's tons of information in this app! We have a kitchen rack for the iPad, where it sits when it's not being used elsewhere, and the slideshow feature is great; fun to see the beautiful bird pics whenever I'm in the kitchen. We find ourselves standing there watching it like tv. I haven't tried it, but I think you can add your own bird pics to the show too. But don't leave the sound option checked unless you want to hear constant bird chirping ☺.

Awesome. Use it every day Spring to Summer👍

Way, way better than a book. Wow. A superb job of creating a bird guide on the iPhone. There's more detail here about each species than you'll find in a bird-spotting book, plus you've got the sounds and a great search function to help you ID a bird by location, color, size, etc. This edition has only backyard birds, so if you're a serious bird watcher you might want to wait for their iBird Plus, which will have a lot more species. But for the casual birder (especially with a backyard feeder) this is a 5-star application all the way. Very well done!

Impressive app needing only small improvements here and there. iBird Backyard is a truly interactive identification guide: The combination of visuals (illustrations + photos), sounds, and links to similar species make this app incredibly useful in both the field and the armchair. However, it does have some shortcomings, but minor ones which I hope would be fixed in future versions: * Sluggish searching * Quite a few typos * Somewhat confusing navigation between lists of similar species (need a clearer way to denote clickable vs. non-clickable list items) * Frequent crashes (perhaps memory management issues?) Overall, I'm looking forward to using the extended iBird Plus version of the app -- although I wonder if it will also have the same issues as the ones here. In any case, the iBird app(s) should set the standard for identification guides on the iPhone: it'd be great if and when other nature guides follow suit.

Pretty good.. I have the app and I dont use it often but once I saw a hawk but I didnt know what kind. I looked up the stuff and some hawks that were seen in the area before were there but im not sure if they match. Pretty Good app.

Amazing Program - Outstanding Support!!!. I was as impressed by the customer support as I was by the program! Mitchell Waite, the APPs developer, patiently worked off and on with this "not very high tech Grammy" for two days. When she still couldn't "get it," Mr. Waite graciously sent her another program to use. It turned out that the program was not at fault at all! My husband finally got it working. The problem was answered in the FACs (if Grammy had just understood it all better). The problem was just a quirk in the way the volume needs to be raised high enough to hear sounds. Now I can get back to my bird watching and teaching my grandchildren. I have a whole new generation of bird lovers to raise. Thank you again Mitch!

No help. Says “no match” every time!

I love the sounds!. This app works well. I especially like the bird songs. While not really in depth, it serves it’s purpose for back yard birding.

The good and the bad. As a blatant amateur I do like the program but have two problems with it. In order to go back and find a list of the birds I've seen I have to mark every identified bird as a favorite. I would like a tab for "my record of birds". Also, I have not yet been able to have a bird name come up by what I have entered in the search. When I see a bird I do not know I can't say where it's common home is, etc. But, the rest of the app is amazing, the photos and information most helpful.

Perfect/Awesome. Was indispensable in helping us identify birds at our home. Great features including Favorites to save your entries. The most enjoyable and entertaining part of this app was to be able to 'talk' to the birds. We would sit on our deck, click on one of our Favorites and have a menagerie of birds fly in to 'talk' back to us. We felt a part of their crowd. Educational with additional info to further your knowledge allowed us to hand feed those birds indicated who would get used to our presence. To sit amongst the flock and be accepted as one of the crowd was awesome. Wouldn't have had as good a summer without this educational tool.

Unbelievable. I love this easy to use app with more than 100 species of bird. I enjoy this app so much even when I'm at dinner. This minute learning app is just incredible.

Excellent Bird Resource. Easy to navigate, great pictures.

Very stable and useful application. I have been using this application since the day it was released, and while I can't wait for the PLUS version, I am just truly impressed with the stability and usability of this application... without even any updates! Full of very good pictures, sounds (Which are actually quite loud!!), and descriptions, this is a great “birding” companion. Again, can't WAIT for the PLUS version, but this application will happily hold me over! Thank you for such a great application!

Outstanding and useful for any bird nerd!. I don't know that I qualify as a "bird nerd", but I certainly do like birds and often wonder what kinds I'm seeing in various places, not to mention what the sounds I'm hearing might be coming from. iBird solves that problem in an extremely useful manner, allowing me to simply carry my iPhone and perform a search that helps me narrow down the possibilities. It provides excellent pictures, sounds, descriptions, and fun facts about each bird and proved its value to me within minutes. I was even finally was able to identify a woodpecker I'd seen 7 years ago, but didn't know the name of. If you like birds at all, this app is a must-have!

Great for this beginner. As a bird watching newbie, I came to try this app from the recommendation of a brother-in-law. It was just what I needed to begin to organize and learn what birds are visiting my feeders and living around my yard. I was able to collect my birds into the favorites list so I can focus on their attributes. Although still learning about the app and all that us in it, I like it very much and consider it a great value.

Must Have for Birders!. This is an awesome app! It's an excellent resource for experienced birders, amateurs or anyone interested in birds. The information provided is the equivalent of several field guides and other birding resources all in one easy to use and cleverly designed interface. The best part is that there is no waiting for webpages to load and no requirement for internet access, and no need to lug heavy field guides with you - all the pictures, photos, range maps, songs and identification information are stored on your iPhone ready to use in the field or anywhere your birding takes you!

Awesome! Invaluable to me. Birdwatching has become a big thing to me over the past few years, and I loved this app. But, last year, we moved from an apartment to a home in a far more sparsely populated area. There is a meadow out back and then forest behind that—even a private nature park. The number of bird species around at least double the number we saw before. We even have hawks that try for some of the smaller birds or small animals. Birds allows me to identify them all with confidence. If you are new to birdwatching, this app is a must. It’s easier to use than the Audubon by far.

Wonderful App. I have used this app in Texas and Florida. It has helped me to identify and learn about many birds. I sit on my patio every morning to watch the birds feed. Recently noticed a new one I was able to ID as a house finch. When I turned on the recording of the male bird calling, about 30 nearby finches flew in and perched on top of my crepe myrtle. It was an awesome experience.

Easy to Use. I have enjoyed this app as it is comprehensive and easy to navigate.

Please don't harass birds with this App. Using recorded calls to attract birds is a form of harassment. The effect of these small disturbances may be negligible when they are isolated events, but with more people having access to these recordings, the accumulative effect can be quite harmful, especially around nesting or roosting birds. They distract the birds from the necessities of survival, such as feeding, avioding predators, and resting. Beyond that, I think this app has great potential. But use your ear buds for matching songs & calls.

Missing common birds. Whether there is a picture or not, there should at least be a hidden reference so when a search is done on a somewhat common bird, it at least states this bird is not available in this app at this time. You would think the app developers would be considerate enough to do that. Today is the second time I saw the same species bird. My daughter was with me and supplied the name “cormorant”. Apparently, at ine time this species almost became extinct due to DDT but since that is no longer used, has made a significant comeback.

Great app!. I love this app and have used it to call in some of my favorite birds. Easy to use with great photos.

Great!. Great app. One of my favorites for years. Gives you a lot of features for free.

Great app. For watching your backyard birds. I’ve had this app going on 6-7 years, I never know that We had 32 different kinds of species of birds in our backyard. I would greatly recommend this app for first time bird watching Pat Santos Manteca,ca

I identified it…. …as a kid fishing and hunting in marsh areas in Southern California, there was a bird that had a distinctive call and was always hidden. I always wondered what it looked like, well this app was suggested to try and, guess what, I listened to the various calls provided in the app, I finally was able to see the mysterious bird. Yippee!!!

very educational and instant access. Nice photos and call identification.

Love at first flight. A very impressive app - has both illustrations, photos and sounds plus a very impressive search engine. Essentially a field guide that teaches you the analytic process an advanced birder uses to identify a species. We have about 12 bird feeders so this low cost backyard version seemed ideal. What surprised me was how easy it is to understand who these little fellows and gals are - there is an amazing amount of information about each bird which helped me appreaciate these children of nature. And the bird calls actually attracted Goldfinches to our yard! For sure a worthy investment.

Excellent resource!. I live in rural East Texas and am able to enjoy quite a collection of neighboring birds who fly in for the all-you-can-eat buffets at my feeders. This app is a perfect resource for a newbie birdwatcher like me to easily id the birds I see, or helpful & interesting to the more knowledgeable lovers of birds and their habitats. Highly recommend! Looking forward to “reading” iBird Yard with my grandson as we watch the birds outside our windows.

A must. Be like a pro without the hasle

Good but not perfect too many birds are missing. Ok

Amazing but one thing.... It should be able to pick up the sound of a birds call and tell you what it is. Thats a really good thing they should work on for a new version. Sort of like shazam but with bird songs. Great app!

Amazing Reference Guide. Works like a charm! Much easy to carry around than a field guide. 5 stars~

Jade928ca. Great app to have when bird watching

So great!. This app is pretty great. The interface is easy to use and they sounds are perfect. When I play them outside, our local birds respond! Had I known how cool it is, I would have gone for a larger version.

Educative and fun. Very good app to have when watching birds in the backyard. Kids can't get enough of it!

Great beginners birding app. If you are just getting started with birding this app is spectacular. It lists a lot of the more common birds that you will see in your backyard, and gives you lots of tools for identifying different species. My only complaint is the lack of a concise way to keep track of all of the birds you have seen.

Oshawa bird man. This is a very useful app. I use it up north and on my iPhone while playing golf.

Great. Love the app. Very realistic and so accurate. Sat in the backyard and played birdsongs and the real birds answered.

anglais seulement. il n'y a pas de version française contrairement à ce qu'on annonce et si vous signalez le problème on vous dit qu'on ne peut rien faire

Awesome. Awesome App

Best ever. Programs just don't get better than this. Grab a bag of sandwiches and the kids ( or in my case the grand kids) and head outdoors to turn into the Best Birders you could ever be. G'Ma

Wasted my money. Not worth the $5. Half the birds in my backyard are not in the app.

Terrific, worth the small price. This app is so much handier than doing a google search or filtering through dozens of web pages for bird info. I've used it for ID'ing our backyard (and frontyard!) birds and it has been accurate and easy to use each time. Very functional interface and I particularly love the sound files. To the developers: please add even more sound files.

A Must Have!. For birding or wilderness enthusiasts, this is a 'must have' tool. This takes the field guide to a completely new level. For each bird there is a wealth of useful information to identify and learn while actually being in nature.

Amazing bird calls!. This app is well worth the5 bucks! Cool pages giving good, clear info that is easy to use too. The audio quality is amazing. Best puchase I've made on here.

Used to be good prior to this update.. Wow you took a great app and make it look terrible. Two thumbs down.

Great app. I use this App when i go in the trails. I call cardinals and they come to me.

Very nice. Had the iPad out in the backyard, playing the field sparrow call when a real one starting answering me from a tree nearby. We had a very interesting conversation tho I have no idea what it was about. This app needs a bird-to-word translator!

Great app. We love this app. New birders so we need all the help we can get.

Disapointment.... Nice user interface, but the most common birds I usually see in my backyard are not in the database. Plus there is no language selection unlike iBird Explorer. So I don't know what to think. I could no recommand this app.

Bird watching newby. Great teacher app for Newby like me.

iBird 7.25 Impressive update. I love that this developer updates their apps so often. I suggested the new Save Search feature and they actually implemented it only a month later. Keep up the great work Mitch Waite Group.

Great app for casual bird watchers. I don't know if it is in depth enough for everybody, but for my purposes, it works great! I don't always have my bird guide book on me, but I almost always have my phone on me so it is works out perfectly!

Solid app that works as it says. I haven't run into any issues, and the frameless viewing this app uses (no wasted screen when viewing photos) is a nice touch. The worst thing about this app is now I want one for insects, trees and other plants that comes even close to as comprehensive.

Ibird is amazing!. Of all the field guides and birding apps out there, this one by far takes the cake for the most information, best pictures, and great price. Any serious birder should own this app. If you are really into birding, get the Ibird pro app. It is well worth it.

very helpful. I live on the edge of an urban forest, so I have lots of visitors. This is very helpful, with lots of information ranging from photos, sounds, habits, how to recognize, and what attracts them and where they live. I couldn't ask for more.

Love it!. Great app! Have all the bird books but this beats them for the depth of info, bird calls, illustrations plus photos, etc. For $1.99 this is the best value I have found of any app. My new favorite!

Fun for kids. Our almost two year old twin grandkids love to find new birds and find the birds they know from the park. They beg to hear the different sounds and songs of the birds, the colors, different beaks, etc...fun and educational for me too. I hope they will remember some birds and bird calls.

Future of Bird Guides. This is sweet- the future of bird guides is now! A few interesting choices to include as "Backyard" birds (I'd about wet my pants if a Hawfinch showed up at my feeders) but the beauty of this approach is that future updates can tweak which birds to add or subtract. Can't wait to check out iBird Explorer Plus!

Really very good. I have owned many bird guides in book form, but none come close to the quality, presentation and usability of this guide. Where this wins is in the search, the information on each bird, additional media like bird songs, and plenty of illustrations and photos. Really very good guide, more guides need to go this way.

Great App For Backyard Birding. We live in a rural, semi-forested setting in northern Michigan. Therefore we have a mix of habitats and birds. We have found every species that we see on our property in the app. Our 6- and 8-year old grandkids love playing a game to memorize the calls. No problems or bugs encountered with the app.

Good App. As with most south Floridians, I would like to see more in future updates. However, you get a lot for the price. Photo's are amazing Bird calls are a brilliant touch. Everyone that I've showed it to just grabs my iPhone and starts having fun. So far I've had no problems with the program (knock on woodpecker).

Brilliant simple birding app. Perhaps not as complete as a full Peterson guide but this is a very simple to use breeding guide that contains the majority of what you would see in the field. As a naturalist/hunter I spend a lot of time infield blinds hunting other animals in this application is great to help identify and educate about the birds that happened to fly by my area.

Updated today. Like this app a lot already! now the updates are nice to see Sounds and resolution of pictures sweet I have found birds I see or hear at feeders are difficult to identify But it's a hobby that can be a challenge ,it also requires patiences !! This app is a great backyard feeder!

Lovely way to track our visitors. We are enjoying learning this app. We have many visitors and look forward to learning if we can export our sighting notes into a calendar or spreadsheet. Thanks for the easy to use app.

Good and bad. Mostly good. For birds I don't know, the search is lacking. But it's great for learning calls and THEN identifying by call. I will listen to calls as I am driving to from work. Plus it has lots of interesting facts. Trying to get my 4 year old son interested. This program is helping.

iBird Explorer Backyard. Really great app. Please add my favorite--Painted Bunting. Eagles (especially our country's great Bald Eagle), Red Tail Hawk, raptors & other birds of prey would be most welcomed additions. Looking forward to seeing these and others in near future update!! Thanks much!

Best bird app ever.. I've become a total bird fanatic because of this app. The photos, slide show, bird calls, maps, etc. etc. what more can you ask for. And you don't have to carry around a big heavy book. It's ALL with you always.

IBird. I have tried other bird apps and this one is by far the easiest one to use. I love watching the birds at my feeders and keeping track of the kind of birds that visit. I play the sound to attract them and they come and sit on my deck. Thanks....

Great for audio ID. I bought this primarily for the audio feature, which has not yet disappointed(and is great for driving cats crazy). Just now ran across gross misinformation regarding breeding area of the Bald Eagle, which leads me to wonder about accuracy of info for species I am *not* familiar with. Well organized within itself, easy to use, great photography, stupendous audio library, highly recommend.

I birds. I love this app. It is very easy to use for the novice and contains information for the more advanced user. They update it often and it is accurate. You can easily take it with you into the field or pick it up at home when you see a bird you would like more information about.

Disappointing. While it's great to have the actual bird calls and fairly good pictures at your fingertips, the first five birds I looked up......mockingbird, cardinal, two different hawks and screech owl.....all extremely common birds across America......I found they weren't even included. Did I miss in their description of this product that it includes only 151 birds or was that important fact omitted? This application is pretty much useless if most of the breeds you're seeking are not listed.

Fun for attracting birds!. I downloaded this app curious about a few birds in my sister's backyard. We ended up attracting a pair of cardinals and a bluejay by playing the calls! My one complaint is trying to identify birds using the app is difficult if you don't know all the bird's characteristics.

Like But Don't Love. The features of this app are easy to use and identification is easy. I particularly like the recorded sound feature. My only complaint is there are only 235 birds listed. I believe there are over 900 kinds of birds in the US alone. I wish this app had a more comprehensive list.

Excellent backyard birder guide. iBird Backyard is a great reference tool. While it does mot include all the features of its bigger brother, iBird Pro, you get a feature rich app that helps you identify the birds that visit your yard. In addition you get tons of info not found in field guides to enhance your birding experience. I highly recommend this app.

Very useful for new birders and pros. The audio feature makes the app. Knowing birds by their calls opens up a whole new world to birders; this app makes an otherwise time consuming and/or expensive learning process easy.

Great!!!!!!. It is much better than I expected. It has lots of birds and information. I enjoy birdwatching and have been looking for a new bird guide. I love to play the house sparrow songs and watch them flock over where my device is. I am disappointed that there is no Barn Owl on here, though.

Best app ever!. I use this app all the time and I totally love it! Having multiple calls for every bird makes identification by call easier; and I like the fact that you can separate species by range which cuts down random searching. Love this thing! Buy it!

Alright but not great. I have just recently installed a bird feeder and first downloaded petersons backyard birds for 2.99. Then I got This app and was dissappointed with the calls they are not nearly as load as petersons and I actually found more of my backyard birds on petersons then this app even though they don't have as many birds. The birds are not coming to this app's calls as much. My area is Raleigh,nc. I do like the photos and additional info though.

Best Field-Tool EVER!!!. Properly identifying birds is part of my job!!! I am a Natural Resources Land Steward for over 100,000 acres. The ibird digital Field-guide is the TOP bird identification field-guide for the future! This tool puts multiple thick reference books in the palm of your hand! This tool is easy to use for both the novice and the expert! ENJOY!!!

Great for watching my birdfeeders. I love this app! I use the gallery, full body view to quickly identify birds at my feeders. I favourite the ones I've seen to show my visitors. My four-year-old loves listening to the bird sounds and learning about them.

Good For Beginners. My parents and I watch the birds in our backyard. When we come across a bird we don't know this app is very useful. I love playing the bird sounds & having them respond back. It makes our interaction with the birds even more delightful.

Don't waste your money on this turkey. I really enjoy watching birds, and here in Florida, we get quite a few migratory birds, in addition to the indigenous species. Not knowing very much about birds, I'd like to be able to identify what they are when I see them. I thought this app would be the perfect answer for me. Not so much. So far, it has failed to identify one, single bird. I've even tried to get it to identify ones that I already know, and it never comes up with a match. This was a waste of money and time.

Worth every penny!. I started using this app with my grandkids and now have a whole new group of bird watchers. Terrific graphics, sounds, and easy to use features make this one a must have.

IBird. This program is simply amazing. The illustration, the recorded songs in the general information are wonderful. The company keeps upgrading the program so that it becomes even better this is definitely a five star program

  This App. Amazing! Since I was a child I've believed that the birds I would hear outside my window were owl of some sort. After downloading this wonderful app I now realize that they were Zenaida macroura (Mourning Doves).I absolutely LOVE  this app! So much info on my  that I can take with me and identify my lil song birds while outside for a stroll. This is a "must have" app. 

Love everything about this app. But... It crashes (shuts down) way too often. At least every 5 pages. If update fixed this problem I'll change review. Wish I would have sprung for explorer plus.

Interactive multimedia bird enthusiasts bible. This app has it all. You can look at photos others have taken, you can upload your own, you can hear all the calls, and you can read a lot of information about each breed. You can view migration patterns also.

Ibird. This is so much more intuitive and user friendly than the tapes and CDs. The 'similar' bird function keeps you from having to go back to the beginning if you don't get an id right the first time. The range and identification features also help narrow the range of choices.

Terrible upgrade. Just upgraded to version 7.0 (build 7.13) and was very disappointed to find that all my favorites are now gone. Worse, it looks like the app no longer supports saved searches. Version 6.1 was clunky, but had good content and better functionality. Version 7 is even harder to navigate and has fewer features. Boo.

Awesome. I also purchased an expensive bird app but I find myself going back to ibird backyard over and over. I'm probably going to upgrade to the pro version soon.

Awesome!. Love this app. It is very informative. Getting this app has helped us identify all the birds in our backyard. Not only can you learn about the birds habits but you can hear what they sound like. Now when I hear the birds chirping I can identify which bird it is.

Great tool for birding. This is a great help for the backyard birder. It is easy to use and has a large amount of information on just about every north American bird you can think of. I love the bird sound section- which helps to identify birds according to their song. This is a wonderful app!!

Good bird source. Love this app bc of the pictures and photos as well as the range and bird call recordings. The info is a little weak and there are a few major birds missing, so it's not completely comprehensive as an official Audubon book, however it's well worth the price and is very easy to use.

House sparrow for the app icon??. This is a very good app with a lot of great info and photos, but, really? A house sparrow is my icon now since the last update- why make an invasive species what I have to look at to open this app? Please change it to a native bird!!! Otherwise- love the app. A must for backyard birders!

Very useful!. I am a beginner with birding and I have found this app to be very useful. I've reviewed the birds and while out one day, I was able to identify a few birds that I otherwise wouldn't be able to.

Excellent App. This is one of my favorite apps of all time. I use it to identify birds on my feeders and study their songs. The illustrations and pictures and stunning and the information is endless from range maps to eating habits. Best of all: it doesn't require internet! Highly recommended.

Outstanding app !!!. Without question this is one of the best built apps I've installed in my iPad 2... It is extremely well done, absolutely loaded with information and features. Extremely intuitive to use...! At $2.99, a very conservative price. —Confirms my decision to invest in an iPad beyond my other 12 Macs. Thank you! Wes Shaw

A new world. I installed feeders for my 95 year old mother who is partially blind. This app has helped her enormously to identify birds. The illustrations are beautiful and the aids to help identify birds intuitive and easy to use especially for people who are visioned impaired. Thank you ibird for bringing interest and joy to my mother in her twilight years.

For people who love birds. This app is one of my favorite. This app can help you to find out what different bird look like. The pictures are really awesome because they have both photos and drawings. The bird call can help you identify what bird you're hearing. I recommend this app for birders and people who love birds.

Not Disappointing for Me!. I find Backyard Explorer 1.6.1 to be better than advertised. New features are unexpectedly good. I'm tempted to get higher versions but so far this one is more than adequate. Similar software for other flora and fauna will get my attention.

This app has been updated by Apple to display the Apple Watch app icon. Besides compatibility with the iPhone X, this new expanded version of iBird is completely updated for the 2017 American Ornithological Union (AOU) Supplement. There are two new species; the Cassia Crossbill and the Sinaloa Wren. The Thayer’s Gull has been lumped as a subspecies of the Iceland Gull. Plus there are over 100 small changes, some of which are listed below. In our continuing effort to improve our illustrations and photos we have updated the following 7 species drawings with much improved composite illustrations (the full version of iBird, Plus, Pro and Ultimate has 32 new species drawings): Broad-tailed Hummingbird, Bronzed Cowbird, Cassia Crossbill, Hairy Woodpecker, Killdeer, Say's Phoebe, Sinaloa Wren. You can see these in a matched list by selecting Search->Illustration Update->10.06. There are 7 new AOU changes to Families (not all of these are in iBird Yard): Sylviid Warblers (Sylviidae) changed to Old World Babblers (Timaliidae), Leaf Warblers (Phylloscopidae) changed to Bush Warblers, Tesias and Allies (Cettidae), Grassbirds (Megaluridae) changed to Grassbirds (Locustellidae), Cardinals & Piranga Tanagers (Cardinalidae) changed to Spindalises (Spindalidae), Emberizids (Emberizidae) has a new famuly New World Sparrows and Towhees (Passerellida). Finally the family Parulidae has changed to Icteriidae. Note the family Icteriidae is monotypic, containing only a single species, the Yellow-breasted Chat (Icteria virens). Owls of Mexico Includes Owls of Mexico, the first time we have extended the North America database to include new species. In this collection our favorite 16 Owls of Mexico and Central America are presented in all the high quality detail iBird is known for, including illustrations with field marks, range maps, songs and calls, photos, ID and behavior data and much more. Take a look at the graphical onboard tutorial on the Purchase page for a visual presentation of a typical species account for this package. Time of Day Search The new Time of Day search feature lets you filter birds by activity intervals during day or night (Cathemeral), dawn and dusk (Crepuscular), during the day (Diurnal) or during the night (Nocturnal). Time of Day Notes which provide additional information about a species behavior are found on each species from a new Time of Day menu. The Time of Day feature is particularly useful for birders who are interested in night birding.
