Wish List. Works real well. I do see a need to be able to edit the ingredient list that is created as recipes are added. Also it would be good to be able to edit or add units of measure to the measurement list. Metric units of measure are sometimes needed for example. Really happy to find a program to store frequently used family recipes. Will upgrades be free to those who have purchased the program?

Backup issues.... I was using this app for a couple of months then my phone had to be reset. I was not able to sync my phone or anything. Once my phone was restored I went to resync my recipes to the phone, but they were gone. I had lost 70 recipes and there was nothing that could be done. I would love to continue using this app for the grocery feature and the number of servings, but until there is a way to store my recipes on a server that is not connected to an IP address I am afraid I am done. Take a look at how "myboxoffice" manages their information and take a page from his book and I will be back, until then, I will keep my recipes in the binder on my shelf. Good luck, and keep the improvements coming.

Great App. I have loved using this App for years. Thank you for the great app! It is wonderful being able to carry my recipes with me wherever I go!

Good but needs a little more.. Have used this so for a bit. It is simple and easy to use. Wish it had other categories like: soup, dressing, breakfast and snacks. I would like to pick from a list of measurements instead of typing in teaspoon or tablespoon each time for each ingredient. I would like to use hours and minutes for time instead of just having minutes as an option. For some slow cooker recipes you need to say 10 hours instead of 600 minutes. It would also be nice to search or organize by ingredient. I would like to be able to download picture from Internet.

One of the Best Apps Yet. I just bought this yesterday. This is the first review I've ever written. Great App. If it isn't working for you when you go to the website - you MUST have your iPod plugged in, then from the home page touch in the lower left corner where it shows the computer. Updates on the spot. Easy to edit. Can add your own photos. Can email recipes (how I hate writing them down). At first was annoyed with it kept converting to decimals, but found out how to allow fractions. Now I don't have to carry my BIG box of recipes when I vacation.

Perfect. UPDATE: Any hope for an iPhone 4 update? Would love to see this program support multitasking and also have an option to prevent the phone from going to sleep while you are cooking. But I'll still love it even if the update doesn't come. ------------------- This is a fantastic program with an extremely responsible developer who responds quickly to update requests. I am a professional chef with over 2000 recipes I like to carry with me and this is the best program to do that. No having to import someone else's crappy collection of cheeseball recipes or eighteen different things you have to enter about the nutritional analysis. Just enter your recipes on the phone or computer and you can search by name or ingredients, add a picture to the recipe, and most importantly, edit on the fly right from the phone.

Like the app, but the latest version has a bug.. The latest version doesn’t work properly on the iPhone 8.When I enter a recipe, the fractional amounts are not placed into the recipe properly. It requires going into edit each of the entries to get it correct. This is the case whether I type in the entries or use voice dictation. When you go into edit the entry, there is some weird syntax that shows up. The fractional quantities for teaspoons, cup, etc. are not there.

Great app for custom recipes. This is a great app. The fractions problem has been resolved. One of the neat features is that you can change the number of servings and it will automatically reapportion the ingredients. You can also take a photo or use one from your photo library as the icon for a recipe, making it easier to see what you're selecting. The display that you see after the recipe is completed has a nice background.

Worth It. I've found this app easy to use and very handy. I was specifically looking for something that did NOT come with various recipes, I wanted something to put my own recipes in - and this has been great. If there is anything I wish was better, it would be synching the recipe data to my multiple devices. I have iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. All three have different recipes on them. I would like to see the data I input, come back into a master file within iTunes, so I can have consistent content across my multiple devices (I don't use MasterCook). Basically the behavior I wish for is sort of like the built-in voice memo's where it notices new content copies it. I wish there was an iPad version of this app too!

Exactly what I was looking for. A great app that's easy to organize and can import recipes from MasterCook 9 (just be sure to select the right file extension). Online back-up and easy entry, perfect for cutting and pasting recipes off the web. This app will even recaluclate servings for you. I just wish I could view my recipes on the web without having my iPod connected. Other than that it is the ultimate private cookbook. Rock on.

Beautiful, fast, and intelligent...becomes even better! Cool.. This latest version makes a wonderful program even better. It's easier than ever to add stars and notes. I downloaded 25,000 MasterCook recipes to my Touch and I can't believe how quick Handy CookBook does a search to find exactly what I asked for. I use the stars in a different way: one for "to try," three for "use often," and five stars for "great for company." When I add a note ("do not double," or "Mary can't eat this" for example) now I get to see it at the top of the recipe as a warning. Perfect! And I love the ability to quickly e-mail a recipe to a friend. Well, do I sound like a fan of Handy CookBook? You bet. I didn't waste my money!

Lack of Catagories Means Lack of Stars. Catagories are messed up. You can't create your own. I don't want to have a catagory called "pizza" and what's the difference between "main course" and "main dish?" No catagory for vegetables or poultry or pasta or rice. The catagories seem to have been thought up by a programer with a microwave and a hot plate, and not an actual cook. "Cocktails" is nice but a "drinks" catagory would be nice since a breakfast smoothie doesn't pack as much of a whollop as a Via-tini. I would like to catagorize by region too. This is why we should be able to create our own catagories in an app that we had to pay for. This sort of oversight is what I would expect from a free app. What do I like? I can cut and paste recipes in using the web browser. Once I figured out I had to have a particular screen showing on my phone to get the browser to work. Please include instructions in the update. Still, it is extremely nice to have this feature and it's what made me purchase this app.

GREAT update!!!. Wow, I've only been using the newest version of Handy Cookbook for a few minutes, and I could not be more pleased. The addition of the option to import mxp files makes this the GREATEST recipe manager for the iPod Touch, ever! And trust me, I've tried them all. Just a quick Google search for Mastercook mxp's, and I'm importing 3,000 cookie recipes into Handy Cookbook. This update takes this app to a whole new level. 6 stars out of 5!

Just what I was looking for!. This app is exactly what I was looking for! I looked for hours in the app store before finding it - why is it so buried? I was looking for an app that would allow me to enter/import my own recipes and take a recipe's ingredients and translate them into a shopping list. It seemed that every app I looked at had something wrong with it - until I found this with all the great reviews. I have connected my itouch with the entry application on the PC and started entering my recipes. I changed and created categories too, and added photos. I love the way that my recipes are formatted in the app. Thanks to the developers and to the reviewers. I finally found what I wanted. If I could suggest just one enhancement, it would be importing of Word documents or integration with Google Docs. And exporting to a similar format.

Wonderful app, even better service!. I purchased this app and liked it so much, I encouraged my wife to get it for her iPhone as well. We were a little stumped as to how to get all the data I had already entered over to her phone without re-typing it, and wrote to customer service, figuring to hear next week, maybe. Well, two hours later on a Sunday, we got a nice note from Mr. Mazzi himself with the solution, from half a world away. You can't beat that. (Turns out you can do it through the web-based backup restore function). We are also enjoying the app's picture capabilities. For some old family recipes, we are including the picture of the family member it came from- very fun, and makes the cook book even more personal. The web-based recipe entry alone is worth it-GREAT app.

Over a year and I still use it every week. I was looking for a blank slate that I could mold to my own style. I file recipes oddly - by genre, ingredient, holidat and daypart (crazy but it works). and I have my own shorthand for ingredients and measurements. so, any app that forced me into a box was no good. and, I wanted easy backups and flex ability to share/output. I tried a bunch and they all failed. this is simply one of the best apps I have - it does exactly what it promises, extends my recipes easily back to other formats, ties the PC in if that's how I want to load/edut a recipe. easy to backup, edit and update. I took 4 thick paper files of recipes - pulled the very best (my go-to list) and loaded them. I also load new, untried recipes on the fly and delete them when they stink - update them with my alterations. I liberally add notes to everything. now, we add photos. this has made me a better home cook and everything is accessible when I travel. freaking amazing.

Just What I Needed For My IPad. This app does just what it says and no more, which is fine with me. I have an extensive recipe collection in Living Cookbook and was in a pickle trying to get recipes onto my IPad for an upcoming trip. I am grateful that another reviewer made it clear that this app contains no recipes, but is designed for importing recipes from another source. There were so many apps and most contained recipes and were not what I needed. Although I found the instructions on importation from Living Cookbook a little confusing, I muddled through and amazingly it worked! I now have all my recipes on my IPad and ready to roll. I recommend this app for anyone using Living Cookbook or Master Cook. It works well.

Perfect personal recipe app. This is exactly what I was hoping for. I wanted to be able to input my own recipes easily and keep then together logically, and this does exactly that. Other apps make you choose ingredients from a ore-defined list, but this one allows you enter exactly what you need to. No frustration! My only suggestions would be to provide areas to input nutrition information, additional notes (like Weight Watchers POINTS values) and in the ingredient input, a field for preparation techniques (diced, finely chopped, etc.). Great application!

Wonderful Cookbook App!. This app is amazing! While it may be nice to have collections of recipes on my iTouch, I particularly wanted MY favorite recipes. Importing recipes is easy, I love being able to add pictures and notes, and love adding ingredients to my shopping list with just a click. I also use this app for menu planning. I use the stars to choose the meals I will make each week. For example, if I am having roast chicken and garlic mashed potatoes on Monday, I will rate each 5 stars. I rate the recipes for my next meal with 4 stars, etc. Then I can add just those recipes to my shopping cart. I also made a "recipe" of my usual weekly shopping list with things such as bread, eggs, milk, etc. One click and all those items are added to the shopping list. The only thing that would make this app even more perfect would be if it had some type of built-in menu planning feature rather than my "winging it" star system. Do not hesitate if you want a great cookbook program. This is the best $1.99 I have paid for an app!!

App is great but it needs to work with other grocery list apps. I said it before and I am saying it again. This app is wonderful. I have had none of the sync issues other mention and I have had to reset my iPhone and it still had all my recipes but I would be really aggrivated if I had had that problem!! I find it very easy to enter recipes especially on the PC from the link. HOWEVER...It needs to connect with a grocery list app! I KNOW I would use it more if I could quickly browse the recipes and add ingredients to my list and I didn't have to try to go back and forth between the apps to enter them. I know it syncs with ToDo but I, as most people probably do, use that app as a TO DO list, not a shopping list because it does NOT save entries, you have to type each item each time. A 5 star for sure if it linked to a real grocery list app, like Grocery Gadget which is also hurting for a good recipe function.

Best of the personal recipe books out there!. I gave it a rating of 4 stars, for ease of use, the fact you can import into it, add recipes over the network, the emailing recipes works, and editing is a breeze. The only improvement I can think of is in the ingredient section. You can input quantity and units. There needs to be a third input for amount. Say I need 2 14oz cans of stewed tomatoes. If I type it in that way, it gets changed to "2 oz cans of stewed tomatoes". Having that third option would make things easier. :) Other than, keep up the good work!

Love!. I love this app. I needed an app to sort and sort my own recipes. I have been using this app for years. It is one of my most used apps. I can see where some may struggle with entering recipes but make a little effort to learn how to copy and paste from web pages and it is easy enough. Look at the support page for instructions on how to use your computer to enter recipes. My only fear is that this app has not been updated for a couple of years and I'm afraid my extensive collection is in danger of getting lost to an out of date app.

Long Overdue. I needed a simple recipe application. I don't want other peoples' recipes and I don’t want a shopping list. My wife does the shopping. You can type (or copy and paste) your recipe in your web browser on your laptop or desktop. Add the recipe to your iPhone or iTouch over your wifi. You can also add or edit recipes directly on your iPhone or iTouch. This application works and it works well. Thanks to the developer.

Love This App. This is exactly what I've been looking for. You only put in recipes that you will ACTUALLY use, not some others that you'll never in your lifetime make. I also like the grocery list it prepares if you want it to. A little tricky when entering partial cups, etc., like "1-2/3" cups, this can get a little screwed up when it translates to the iPod. Other than that, great program ... does exactly what it should. DVO is coming out with a cookbook application in the fall as well ... should be good too...will compare when it's out.

Love It!!. This app is so easy to use! In order to enter recipes from a computer you have to connect the iPhone to your PC, then open the app and touch the icon on the bottom left. It will then give you EASY instuctions on how to complete the process. This app is wonderful and is excatly what I was looking for! No pre-added recipes that I will never use or other useless options. This is a perfect app for those who are tired of losing recipes or those that just want all their recipes in one place! AWESOME!

Handy Cookbook. This is an excellent application and is my favorite so far on my new iPad. The web-based interface is not only excellent and reliable, it significantly simplifies entering new recipes. And I thank you for the inclusion of a back-up mechanism. I've pumped in ~150 recipes so far and would hate to lose them. The ability to add thumbnail photos to each recipe is a nice touch too. If you're open to enhancement suggestions, please expand the search capability to include the Notes and recipe title fields. Thanks for an excellent app!!

Good tool but lacks sharing. I use this app constantly on 2 different iPads. I have family recipes on both but the app doesn’t allow sharing. Recipes reside on each individual device instead of in the cloud where you’d be able to log on and see them on any device. This why I rated it at 3 stars, other than that it would be 5 stars.

Love the app -- so happy for the update!. I have 224 recipes in this app. Love the layout, how easy it is to add & categorize recipes... In addition to using it at home, I use it at the grocery store to remind me of ingredients I might not have or for something I just feel like making. When the warnings about the app not working with iOS 11 kept coming up, I frantically looked for an alternative & didn't install 11. Everything else seems to want to give you their recipes, while I want to keep mine. Thank you for updating (although I still haven't moved to 11)! Please keep this useful app available!

Perfect Personal Cookbook App. This is exactly what I was looking for. The fact you can import your own recipes sells itself. Creating your own icons for categories or using their default images is brilliant. They even provide a way to backup your cookbook on a PC. The only thing I would put on a wishlist for a future update is a way to export your recipes and/or the whole cookbook into a standard file format, pdf or both. Thanks out to the developers.

Still the best.... The latest upgrade makes Handy Cookbook even more indispensible. The web importer interface now allows better editing capability from your computer, in addition to your iPod Touch or iPhone. Just remember to keep the importer "page" open in the app, then (if using Internet Explorer), choose File > Open... (or type Ctrl+O) and enter the link exactly as it appears in Handy Cookbook (to avoid frustration, *don't* use Google). According to the developer's blog, another upgrade in coming soon. I can't wait!

Wonderful App. I LOVE this app! Thank you for making it! It works very well. I read some reviews of people who didn't know how to stay connected to the internet. I found it was important to continually make sure you are in the connected mode,i.e. click on the internet icon on the bottom left of the main page. It needs to be in that position in order to function with the internet. I love that it interfaces with Master Cook software that I have been using for years. It was very easy to download the recipes to my desktop into a separate folder [for easy finding] and then go to the website and browse for each recipe. It loaded instantly for me. I was a little frustrated that I couldn't have more categories until I discovered that there is an 'edit' for the Cookbook itself on the first page. Once I discovered that, I could create all the categories that I wanted. I even changed some of the preset categories and can delete some if I want to. I also figured out how to apply different pictures to the recipes in the edit mode. There are more graphics for other categories. This is one of the best apps I have. This was very well worth the price. I now can always have my favorite recipes with me and have the shopping lists I need when I am out and about. Thank you for making this!!!! I hope everyone learns to use it and enjoy it!

Well worth the $1.99!. The fact that you can use the computer to add recipes rather than having to type out the entire recipe on the Iphone is quite nice. Not that typing with the Iphone is bad. I did try doing this and it does take a little bit of time depending on the length and complexity of the recipe. I highly recommend this Cookbook if you are looking for something to put recipes on and keep track of them and not have to lug around that big wooden box of cards and or some pad of paper. The only thing I would like to see in this program would be making my own Categories. That would be the one and only thing that I get hung up on. At the current version of this software which is 1.7 I have had 0 issues using it with the Iphone 3g.

Handy Cookbook. I love the cookbook, but just tried to add a recipe and when I tap to add ingredient, nothing happens. I am unable to add any ingredients. I don’t see how to get any support on this question. I was able to add steps. Please help!

What happened?. I LOVED this app until I purchased my new iPad. Now I too have a problem with my fractions. What gives?!! Extremely annoying but I have over 1,000 recipes in this app. Until this happened, I would have given this a 5 plus rating. Please help us out Carlo with a bug fix.

lots of pros, 1 minor con. Pros: Easy to add recipies online, easy to change delete or add categories or recipes. It's very adaptable to what you need and how you want to organize the recipes. Being able to add pictures is really nice. Ability to star the recipes also really nice. You can backup your recipes so they wont be lost forever if you accidently delete something. Grocery list is easy to use and add to. Cons: Its minor but though you can edit categories on your iTouch/iPhone, you can't do it when you're online. For example: I was trying to add some recipes online, but it needed a new category and I had to switch back to my iTouch to make the new category, then resume adding the recipe online. Not too terrible since the new category applies immediately. But aside from that Im glad I found this app...theres a lot of crappy apps out there.

Connection problem solved. As other reviewers have noted this app is the closest to PDA COOKBOOK that I loved and used on my treo. So thrilled when I found it, so disappointed when I couldn't connect my PC to the Handy Cookbook server to input my recipes. I read all the posts on the blogspot, reported a problem on the app store... But I kept at it because I'm not an intuitive computer user. The answer was right there. The key to pc connection to the server is the IP address. My PC is using a wireless network that has a 'GUEST' access point that my iPhone is connected to. The main (or host) network and the 'guest' access have different IP addresses. As soon as I changed my PC to the same 'guest' network I was able to connect.

love it. i don't know if this has been updated since the reviews, but it DOES let you change the categories. if you read the description, you know this IS NOT full of pre-entered recipes, so i don't know why people are complaining about that. it's nice to get online and type everything out on a full keyboard. i love that you can quickly add a recipe to your grocery list. it would be nice to have landscape view, but i'm not too hung over on that one. now i can get rid of all those note cards and magazine clippings and have all my recipes in one place! love this, definitely worth $2.

Great app. As a Living Cookbook user this app was exactly what I was looking for. It took a minute to figure out the Import aspect of the app, after that, importing all my recipies took a couple of minutes without any problems. So far only one problem.....when I organize recipes into new cookbooks on the app, I loose the ability to assign a category and it looses the one it had. Maybe I'm doing something wrong as that doesn't make a lot of sense to me, a cook book needs category's . If this is the app and not me I hope it will be fixed in the future but either way this is still a great app....thanks

straightforward recipe storage. I have used this app to for quite awhile to store recipes on my iPhone and have been pleased with its simplicity. The recent update caused a few problems retrieving my recipes, so I contacted the developer with my questions. He was timely in his response, and provided simple instructions for getting my recipes to load properly again. I was very impressed by his quick response and attention to my questions - the entire problem was solved in less than 24 hours. This is a great choice for recipe storage: I find it easy to add items via my desktop, easy to email recipes to others, you can add your own categories and photos, and (very important) the developer was helpful when I had problems.

Something happened. I do looove this app. But, lately it won’t let me add recipes on my iPhone or iPad. I’ve tried emailing Carlos; but, I don’t think he’s received them because I’ve had no response. What I have on my app works beautifully, but, I need to add more recipes. I hope he will find a way to show me how to fix it!

Great App. I gave it only 4 stars for one issue I experienced and I hope it can get resolved. On two occasions my iPhone had a major crash and had to be reset and I also did a software upgrade which required a full backup, installation of software and restore and all my recipes were gone. The last time with the upgrade I was really disappointed because I had just loaded several family recipes that I now have to re-find and reload them. I hope I can still get them. If this was fixed it would be a five star for me.

Great app. I love this app because it doesn't have 60 million recipes that I'm never going to use. I can put in the recipes I already use and love! Yes, it does occaisionally disconnect, but it's never taken more than a few seconds to reconnect and I've never lost any recipes that I've typed in. (You're not using anyone else's server, like some of the review indicate. You don't even have to be online to use this! It's all done through your wireless router, not on their server.) Most of my recipes already have nutritional information and I add that to the notes or at the end of the instructions, but it would nice to have them separate. Definitely a keeper!!!!

Best recipe app I. When I first start creating a new recipe I use notes in Mail since notes syncs between my deices but once I've refined a recipe, usually after I've made it a few times, I store it in Handy Cookbook. Love the way I can paste in a list of ingredients into Handy Cookbook using Safari and Handy Cookbook will generate a grocery list plus it will easily adjust the ingredient amounts when servings are changed. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there is no way to keep Handy Cookbook synced between devices other than to do exports and imports manually. I would gladly pay more for a version that kept its data file in Dropbox the way 1Password does so that my iPad, iPhone and partner's iPhone all would have their recipes in sync or had some other way to keep everything in sync.

Love this app. I've had this app for a few months now and I love it. I don't use the shopping list but I think it's a great idea for those that do. I love the layout of the recipes and the fact that you can add a picture. I really love the fact that you can add the recipes on the computer. It's difficult and time consuming to type in the recipe on my iPod, although I like that it can be done. Just a few little things would give this app a 5 star: 1. I would like to have a small note section in the title field. I want to give credit to the owner of the recipie or make a "courtesy of" note as to where I got the recipe. 2. A nutritional information section would be nice. 3. Another small note section for additional info, such as "pairs great with white wine" or "this main dish is great with the side dish titled..." Right now I add these notes under the preparation instructions. I look forward to these updates.

Handy Cookbook. Great update! Have added all family recipes to new cookbook. I use this app almost daily. ***** This app will no longer work with the next iOS update. I hope it is updated. I would hate to lose all my recipes. Please let us know your plans . Cheers! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

This is a great app!. I've been an "Appetite" for BlackBerry user for a long time, one of the best cooking apps I'd ever found over many years. Late last year the developer decided to no longer update or support the product, leaving my wife and I in search of a GOOD replacement. We both have iTouch 3rd generation devices (in addition to our BB's) and decided to check out both platforms. Nothing much has come out for BB that comes close to the app we were using, and after playing with a number of iPhone/iTouch apps, have decided that Handy CookBook is a mighty good application! It works great on our devices, no crashes... and we LOVE the ability to enter the recipes via a wifi network-connected PC! That ALONE is worth the entire cost of the app! Being able to enter a recipe on mine and then emailing it to my wife where she just taps the emailed image to import that recipe into hers is wonderful. Kudos, developers!

Great app!. I love this app! It does exactly what I want it to do. Stores all my recipes - which I can add from either my iPod or online. From online it immediately adds it to my iPod. I did have to keep the iPod on the connection page to sync it when adding recipes from online. I like that it will adjust quantities for me! I can email recipes to friends. The measurements are in fractions unlike some other apps. Just to comment on a couple of things - I see a review says you can't add recipes from the app, but that's not so. You CAN add recipes from the app. Also someone commented that you can't change/edit the categories. You CAN edit the categories though and they have different icons to choose from for the picture. To the developer - good job!

Works perfectly. I needed an app to collect recipes from a variety of sources, and this one does it. With the web interface, it's a snap to copy/paste a recipe from any text that you can get on your computer (internet, email, word processor file, etc...). Now, I can have the recipe handy, and correctly formatted while I'm cooking or shopping. One other thing: to the person who is having trouble with the web interface, you're entering the address wrong. There are colons after the "http" and before the "8080."

Change of heart. Most importantly, my review of this app has changed from one star to five, based upon the efforts of the developer to resolve my issues through multiple emails, and a customized tutorial based upon my issue. He was incredibly fast to respond, and helped me to import 1000 recipes in a matter of minutes. For those who purchase this app, please understand the it comes with NO recipes. It's essentially a tool to organize, modify, and export to other apps like grocery gadget (works very well). I didn't realize this before making the purchase, so I ended up with a seemingly useless app. After a single request for help, the developer guided me through the process to load recipes from online, and it has worked flawlessly since. Exports info very well to grocery gadget to generate shopping lists, and has seemingly an endless supply of recipes to upload,so I plan on getting a lot of use out of this app. Very impressed overall.

My personal cookbook collection. All I wanted was MY recipes on my itouch, and this one fit the bill. At first, the only complaint I had was that I could only imput online using the computer, but recently the developer updated to enable full editing anytime online. (It's always been fully editable, just only on the itouch) This app is great, now I have all my fav recipes in one place. I also love that I don't have to have the internet, I can be in the grocery store, remember a recipe that I want to try, and easily make sure I have all the ingredients. If you just want YOUR recipes, then this is a GREAT app!

Pleasantly surprised. I was pleased. Its simple to use, clear to read and exactly what i was needing. Would love to be able to download recipes found online but i havent played around with that yet. I wanted somewhere to keep my fave recipes handy without needing to go online. This is great.

Useless!. This application is totally useless - it did not work at all, it wouldn't even allow me to add the list of ingredients. I do not recommend it!

connection between computer and iphone/ipad. the WiFi connection is unreliable between computer and iphone or ipad (I tried both). The problem is not my WiFi, I am sure of that.

Perfect for on the go Cook. After the intial outlay of time from putting my recipes in, it is perfect! Even putting in the recipes were easy. Shopping list fuction saves me so much time. Highly recommended!

Yes it's handy. I have been using this app for many months now and do love how easy it is to add recipes that I see on TV or need to jot down quickly. it's excellent that if you need to multiply the recipe it does it for you once you add how many people you are cooking for. Then add recipe to shopping list is great. However it is annoying that I can't combine my other shopping list app together w this one. I have too many apps all doing great things but all lacking something that another one has. Anyway. But please make an iPad version of handy cookbook.

Hard to use. This has to be one of the worst cook book apps I've tried. Really awkward and certainly not user friendly. I bought it for the promised export to PDF functionality, which can't be open on the device. Totally pointless and I'm deleting it.

Great application. This is a great app. easy to input recipes AND it allows you to put in metric measurements as well. Also nicely separated into various categories. I LOVE the fact that you can adjust the number of servings and it automatically adjust the quantities in the recipe. There is room for improvement though. It would be great to have a field to suggest what to do with an ingredient, such as parsley, chopped or butter, melted etc. Also some recipes call for different parts to be made separately, like a dough and a filling, so it would be nice to be able to separate the ingredients lists and the instructions within the same recipe. And even better to be able to have some sort of desktop version that you could sync with the phone - or maybe somewhere you could add a recipe to a server and share amongst users. Well done and looking forward to any updates.

Just what i was looking for. This is a really good App just needs a few things fixed. I am not getting any amounts coming up just the word "nan" what ever that means. It would also be good to put into categories.

Best Ever Cook Book !!!. This is a great little cook book that allows you to store all your favourite recipes & cocktails. I have purchased numerous other cook books in the past and this is by far my favourite. Even does a google search for a picture to place upon your recipe. You will see what I mean once you purchase this book :)) Att dev !!! Only one issue !!! When adding 1/2, 1/4 measurements when writing a recipe there is an error

iOS4. I love this app, being able to enter my own recipes via PC and sync to my iPhone. I'll love this app even more if it's made compatible with iOS4!

Nice app. Exactly what I wanted. A simple-to-use application that I could input my own recipes into. No premade list of ingredients, no downloads of thousands of recipes I'll never use. Just an attractive and convenient way to store my recipes. Needs some small modifications such as auto-caps, and possibly an extra field to enter how an ingredient should be prepared ie. chopped, diced, grated... but for now I am just putting this into the 'type' field. All-in-all, very pleased

Love this App. Great App which I use constantly. The new version allows a much easier addition of ingredients and preparation for each recipes. Also very easy to share recipes with friends. Hope the latest update fixes the importing bug!! Well done fellows.

Excellent app. This is an excellent app, and really appreciate the ability to enter recipes through the web. I have been telling friends who I know are into cooking all about it, and the only thing which would make it perfect (which is taking it further than than just being a cookbook) is also having the ability to use the recipes in the app to a menu planner to help plan menus and grocery lists for the week. It would be useful to have the grocery list sorted into categories. Eg all produce together, all meats together etc. All in all - a great cookbook though, and I would have to say the best that I have come across. A couple of extra features/suggestions would be great: - being able to add nutritional information (eg calories, fat, protein, carbs etc) - adding a source (ie where the recipe came from, which page out of a cookbook or from a friend) - having the units of measurement built in (eg tbs, tsp, grams etc) as well as being able to add custom measurements - being able to separate the ingredients list into categories (eg separate out any ingredients used in a sauce or dressing in the receipe). Loving the app though - easy way of collating all my favourite recipes from various sources, or the ones I want to try (and have all the ingredients I need with me).

Excellent recipe app - Update. I've tried all the more "popular" ones and still come back to Handy CookBook. It might be missing an import recipe feature, but with everything else it has it still is the only one I use.

It's ok. I like that you don't need to connect to the internet to use this, but the lack of 1/2 cup options is really annoying. I'd also love to be able to select "none" for the icons - since alot of them don't fit my recipes.

Piece of ...... Dont bother with this one. The five stars must be from the developers friends. I really wanted to like it, but the constant timing out when I am trying to import is horrible. I can't be bothered. Horrible

You. I love this app, mainly because my main recipe program, on my desktop, is Mastercook. This is the only app (that I can find) that will transfer all my Mastercook recipes to my ipod touch. At the grocery store I have my entire recipe collection at my fingertips -- fabulous! I admit I do not use this app to enter recipes, only to transfer between my Mastercook program and the app so that I have the recipes handy. All I need now to be REALLY happy would be for this program to run on the iPad. I'd definitely pay a bigger price for it -- worth every penny of whatever you would charge for the iPad version and more than worth the measly $1.99 currently charged. Wonderful. Thank you.

Half cup. The app is awesome. It is exactly what i was looking for, the ability to have my favourite recipes with me and take down other peoples rwcipes without needing the net. The only issue is that you can't use 1/2 cup, 1 1/4 cup ect. So its a pain to convert all my recipes.

Doesn't work with iPod Touch. My mistake for not checking the requirements before purchasing, but com'on, what could there possibly be about a recipe database that prevents it from working on an iPod Touch???

Backup system. It would be very handy to add the possibility to backup the database to Dropbox. My Ipod crashed yesterday and when I restored, the app wouldn't start. Had to delete it and download again. I lost all my recipes...

Love it - can we have an iPad version please?. This is a great app, especially for importing my own recipes. I would love to be able to use it on my iPad (larger area means less scrolling with floury fingers while cooking)

Great Personal Recipe App!. This is a great app for storing your personal recipes. Very simple to enter recipes into. The servings calculators is a great feature. The website interface to view, edit and add recipes online while linked to your device is very handy. Well worth it!

Hmnnnn what happened to the settings icon and import that was on the iphone?. I loved Handy CookBook for the iPhone and now that I've purchased an iPad, I was hoping to import recipes. There used to be an icon to connect with the computer but that's gone. Please update this great product!

My recipes in my pocket. Perfect!!. I like that I can keep my own recipes in my pocket. This app makes it easy to change the quantity of a recipe. It is user friendly and you can easily email your favorite recipe to a friend from within the app.

Great App!!. So far so good. It is very user friendly. I like being able to enter recipes using a real keyboard and the interface works flawlessly. You can edit the categories to whatever you want and even upload your own pictures. Finally an app that got it right

Everything I was looking for - and more. I love this app! Finally I have all my recipes in one place. It takes a little while to input them, but not longer than writing them out by hand. (Many can be copied and pasted from various recipe websites that I use). By far my favourite feature is the shopping list -- you can add, multiply, or remove ingredients from your recipes, but you can also add other items to the list, and the app remembers them so that you can easily put together new lists. Brilliant!

Where is the manual?. I have tons of recipes that I have captured from the web and I want to transfer them to this program. Where can I find the manual? I love the design but there has to be an easier way to get all my favorite recipes into the app without using the apple keyboard. I dont have a wifi connection so if there was a way I could do it directly from the Internet, that would be great.

Great app but wish updated more. I have been using this app for over 2 years now and find it extremely useful to keep all my recipes at hand. I love that you can customize the categories, upload photos instantly from the Internet, and create PDF books to export. I just wish the app was updated more often with new functionalities.

by JCM vs 1.8. This is a great App. It works just as described. Those who expect a bunch of recipes need to learn to read. It has a very smooth efficient web site for loading recipes. I can copy/paste a large recipe on my computer and it instantly shows up on my iTouch. For anyone wanting to transfer recipe files from their computer to iPhone or iTouch, this is the one to use.

Works Great. I got this app because I wanted a way to view my extensive Mastercook cookbooks on my iPhone. The software is easy to use and easy to import from Mastercook. Creating new cookbooks and recoding recipes were easy as well. I would give the software 5 stars if it allowed for multipe recipe updates (i.e. Search for all the potato recipes in your collection and move them to a new category).

Love it!. You can upload many recipes at once. Update: can you add a place to include recipe source. Also, would like to be able to cut and paste recipes from web pages instead of having to enter one ingredient at a time.

By Far, The Best Recipe App. I love this application, as any cook (or chef) would. It has all of my favorite recipes and all of our "family" recipes, and, it's on my iPhone and my iPad. A few added features, simple, but useful to any good cook, would make this app a 5-star plus! It really needs: Multiple categories for certain recipes. That would be great. As an example; Mac 'n Cheese could be under a side dish and a pasta dish. Add hours AND minutes to cooking times. Some recipes call for overnight marinating - - while that is inactive cooking time, or, prep time - it is still time. In a perfect world, a section to add a suggested (or favorite) wine, or two, would be great. Most good recipes have one or two ideal wines that pair well - it would be great if there was a place to add them . . . Maybe soon?

NOT a Waste of money. I apologize to the developers. My previous review stated that the site used to sync was always unavailable. Stupid me - I was using the application incorrectly. You must keep the iPhone on the sync page (one that shows the link) until the upload is complete. This application is th only one I have found that can easily be used to upload your Mastercook recipes once you get the hang of it - pretty simple actually.

I love this app... but. This app is so awesome. I love that I can save all of my recipes and find them so easily. The only issue I have with the app is that it does not bring my recipes over when I downloaded the app to my ipad. All of my recipes appear on my iphone but on my ipad the handy cookbook always comes up empty. If you could please solve this issue I would definitely rate 5 stars. Thank you so much for such an awesome app that filled all of the needs I had in my kitchen. :)

Almost What I Want. This app gives me almost everything I want. Ability to enter recipes online and synch up - very handy! Works on the iPad - yeah! Low cost - yeah! Add to grocery list - yeah! Some things that would make this 5* - add aisles to the grocery cart - allow landscape mode - reading the directions is a bit difficult. Either decrease the font size or allow zooming so the instructions can be enlarged Otherwise I'm very pleased with this app. For anyone having trouble using the website feature - you HAVE to keep your ipod/ipad on the "web server" page. You cannot go look at a recipe on your ipod/ipad while working online.

Now I got it.. For the longest time I couldn't get a recipe to upload. The web site kept timing out. I though it was our wireless network. If I was quick about it, I could get one to submit. Now I get it. I have to make sure my iphone doesn't fall asleep and time out, it has to be on the http location page. Submitting is now easy. I love having the recipes at my finger tips while at the grocery store. I can decide on the way home from work what to make for dinner and stop and get all the ingredients.

Great but needs just some minor updates. I love this app because you can customize it how you want, and that you can type your recipes on your computer and synch it to your phone. However there are a few things that might help: 1. For the grocery list, please try to sort it by sections of the grocery store. Not let the App repeat the same item in the grocery list and maybe think about putting quantities of each item since we have it in the ingredients. 2. For the servings, can you have an option to where if you need to increase the serving size, it will do the calculations for the ingredients for that additional serving. If you can do that, this app would be amazing.

Simple, elegant, and functional. I use a Macintosh cookbook application and I wanted a way to move recipes to my iPhone without re-entering data manually on the iPhone. The web server mode for Handy Cookbook is a very elegant method of accomplishing this task. I was extremely impressed with the user interface and the resulting recipe readability on my iPhone. Great work, Carlo!

Love this app!!. I was so close just to writing my own application until I found this. I want to keep my recipes, don't want to publish them to the world, and don't need or want a bunch of recipes from someone else. Thanks! PS - Wish this was easier to find. This does not come up under "recipes" in the search. If it did, it would have saved me a lot of time.

Terrific cookbook app!. Easily worth the price. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. I just love this app. I love how you can add categories, pics, recipes from mastercook & so forth and so on. I only wish is that it had an export function to where I could transfer recipes back into mastercook. Maybe it does & I just haven't found it yet. would give 5 stars if it did.

LOVE IT. This is what I was looking for and more. If you're having trouble with the ISP address it's probably because you're not keeping the edit screen open on your iphone. If I could edit the categories for the recipes I would give it 5 stars. For example, I don't need a pizza category, but a salad tab and a soup tab would be nice to have.

Great, Helpful App!!. This app is wonderful! I love having all of my recipes in a single place and being able to use them on multiple devices. I also love being able to share a recipe when it is requested. The developer has made a very user-friendly app in my opinion!

Love the browser-based entry!. This is a fantastic feature to have... no WAY am I typing all my recipes on the iPhone keyboard! Plus you can easily change categories, add a photo, send to a friend... what's not to like? Great app for $1.99; I travel a good bit and cook on the road, so it's great to have all my recipes with me.

Great App. I love that I can type my recipes on the computer - so much faster! I would love for the grocery list to include a price section for each item, though, and also for there to be a list other than the "shopping list" that would show me which meals I have planned for/am shopping for. Only way to do this is to export to Appigo (or Appigo lite). As it is there are only items - no meals! Overall GREAT way to store and edit recipes though.

Really great application!. I love this recipe database. It's easy to add recipes and contrary to some reviews, it's easy to add categories, too. I love being able to include photos of the food. It would be nice to have a place to add nutrition information. For now I added it to the bottom of the preparation instructions section. Well worth the price!

How do you sync more than one device?. I love this app. I just spent hours entering recipes that sync with my ipad. I was so excited to be able to have all of my own recipes with me on the go. However, I did not realize that you can only sync with one device. Is there a way to sync with both an ipad and iPhone, or do I need to enter all of my info again for my iPhone?

Very easy to use. I have added a few recipes and will definitely be adding a lot more. The biggest missing piece I see is that it needs the option to add more categories or at least edit the ones already there. What is the difference between a main course and a main dish? Huh?

Beware. I downloaded, entered the URL given in the app & it is not working! I had another person enter the given URL on another computer with the same result. This app is useless if I cannot use my computer to enter & sync recipes. I regret purchasing this app.

Love it but..... Love this app but I would like more categories. Such as breakfast, appetizers, sauces and dips, and crockpot to name a few. This would be greatly appreciated in the next update. It would also be cool if you could check off ingredients and steps as you're going along so you can see right where you are in your recipe.

Love it. The app I been looking for. Works great. Best app that I ever paid for.  UPDATE JUNE 3, 2009: It got even better. It now has a backup, website looks great..also you can now update your recipes and add pictures online. Before it looked boring and you could only add recipes. It's definitely worth every penny.

looks good. I just downloaded this, and was able to get all my professional pastry recipes on my iphone. I've been trying to find an app that is just for downloading your own recipes, without a bunch of untested recipes that I will never use. Now I can take all my recipes on jobs with me, without the bulk of the books.

Awesome program indeed!!. I also agree that this is an awesome program. I too do not understand the complaint about not being able to change categories, obviously they didn't actually look very hard at the edit button on the top of the page. I only wish you could enlarge the photos, but the rest of the app is very easy to use. Well done!

 I  this  app. . This is my second review ,I've received many compliments about this  app. And I  the fact that you can E-Mail  them to your friends  and family  and that you can import your own  photos,oh and using the pc to import recipes has been a time  saver,  thumbs up from me. 

Handy for MasterCook users. Although I think the import feature on this software is a bit archaic, it works! Those of us who have current versions of MasterCook have to export a copy of our recipes from mc2 format to mxp format and create a new file on the desktop. Then it is easy to import the mxp recipes into Handy Cookbook. You can only do it one at a time, as far as I know, but as I say, it works. I am pleased that I can have a copy of my recipes with me all the time.

Great for your OWN recipes!. I been looking for a good recipe app that I can store my OWN recipes. I didn't want new recipes sent to me with ingredients I never heard of. I didn't want something that converts it to a grocery list. I just wanted a simple, non complicated recipe box app.. And this is it!

Love this app... A must have for recipes. Bought this app based on the comments, and have to say it is well worth the $1.99!! For fist time users, make sure the app is loaded with the wifi initiated to add recipes via your computer, and it will sync with no problem!! Now if this app would just enter all my recipes it would get 10 stars.

My favorite app. I just love this app. Once I figured out you have to keep the web server screen open when working on the recipies online I had no problems. (Developers, you should add a note about this on the web server screen on the iphone!) I have been having so much fun setting up all my own categories and adding my own customized recipes. I love it! I customized all of the icons, but was disappointed that I couldn't change the picture for the "All my recipes" category. I would love to be able to change that also, but it is definitely not a deal breaker. Love everything about this app!

Handy Cookbook. I love this app. It works great for me. I have added about 100 recipes online with no problems! I really think many people underestimated this app. I've had it for almost a year with never a problem. I just wish there was one more category to put how much it cost to make the meal and I'd be set!

Good idea but a problem . . .. I liked the idea of this program. However, to enter recipes I use the computers at my culinary school. Unfortunately, they are set up to block anybody trying to access an IP address, so I cannot enter any recipes. I tried the computers at our local library. They, too, block access to specific IP addresses. This app, therefore, is totally useless unless you have a personal wifi network, which I do not. I was really looking forward to using this program.

IMPORT feature is EXCELLENT!!! Well done!. This is the only one I could find that lets you enter your recipes on your computer, import them into the app, and then add them to a shopping list when you're at the store. Too bad there are so many shopping apps cluttering the app store so folks can't find this one. It took me way to long to find this.

Love It!. I rarely write reviews but I LOVE this app! If I had to give up my iPhone THIS is the app I would miss the most. Seriously! I use it all the time for planning a meal, shopping (I don't use the shopping list in this app but refer to this app ALL the time while in the store.), and preparing recipes. Great little app - must have for home cooks. I bought this app (1.8) based on the user comments. Great app. Converted all my Mastercook 7.0 files in a jiffy! Suggestions for improvement :- - I had some problems in the connection initially - must inform user in BOLD that the iphone is in the HANDY COOKBOOK WEB SERVER page when you want to sync with pc. It won't work otherwise. - A weekly meal planner would make this app a perfect 5 Stars app

Works as described. Initially, we couldn't get the app to import recipes from our PC based Mastercook. The developer followed up within 24 hours and emailed us clear instructions, which allowed us to import the recipes. I would give this app five stars if the initial instructions that came with the app had been as clear as what the developer emailed to us the next day. We appreciated the good follow-up from the developer.

Perfect Complement to MacGourmet. I use this program to import my recipes from MacGourmet Desktop. Just export your file as Mastercook MXP format to desktop and save a photo to desktop. Then open browser, type in HTML address from Handy Cookbook and select import. Works perfect every time. Like the editing in app option!

This is great. I read most all descriptions of cooking related apps before purchasing this one. It performs exactly as described, is simple to use, and is perfect for portable reference in the grocery, away from home, and in the kitchen. Very much like the internet interface feature for adding recipes quickly and efficiently.

Perfect for my recipe collection. I was looking for a way to input my personal recipes and this works perfectly for my needs. Figured out that I could add my own custom categories too, which is helpful. I emailed developer with a question and was pleased to get a helpful, prompt response.

This Is an Excellent App. This is a well planned and excellent app. The developer has been thorough and put himself in the position of the user. The app is robust in the way it deals with user cookbooks. For example, it readily imports and categorizes MasterCook files and recipes. The developer is also very responsive to questions and suggestions In short, this is what a lifestyle app should be.

A 'Must Have' for the home cook. Excellent app ... No problem importing recipes from MasterCook 8. I love the fact that I don't have to publish my recipes to the web like some other cookbook apps require. It means that I can use my Touch at the grocery store without relying on wifi or a connection. The shopping list simplifies everything.

Was a 5, now a 3. Has anyone else had problems using wifi and the web server to sync recipes. I keep typing in the IP address but nothing. I really liked the app when I could do this (5) but for some reason I can't do that anymore(hence a 3). I can't figure out if it's not compatible with upgraded Firefox, upgraded MAC OS, upgraded iOS or what. I have contacted the developer, but keep getting asked if I have done things that I have done. I hope/wish someone has a better suggestion, or guess I will be looking for another app.

Love this app!. I have many family recipes that needed to be compiled in one place, so I can find with ease. This app has proven to be most useful with this task. I LOVE the option of entering or viewing a recipe on my computer. Had made copying some of my recipes very easy! Thank you! One suggestion would be the ability to import from a text file.

Will not connect. I have been using this app for well over a year until all the recent updates. I'm not sure if it is the app or the new 5.0 or a combination of both. But since I updated I can get connect through my browser. Up till now I have had no problems at all. I don't like giving 1 star to something I use on a daily basis but as of right now it is useless to me. I more be more than happy to change this when a fix comes out or either I get a reply to my e-mail I sent a few weeks ago.

Exactly what I was looking for. I've been hoping to find something to carry the recipes I love with me (so I don't have to go digging for them). This lets me compile my own cookbook of recipes, lets me adjust for serving size, lets me make a grocery list and allows me to email the recipes. It is awesome.

GREAT update!!!. Wow, I've only been using the newest version of Handy Cookbook for a few minutes, and I could not be more pleased. The addition of the option to import mxp files makes this the GREATEST recipe manager for the iPod Touch, ever! And trust me, I've tried them all. Just a quick Google search for Mastercook mxp's, and I'm importing 3,000 cookie recipes into Handy Cookbook. This update takes this app to a whole new level. 6 stars out of 5!

Just what I was looking for. It took awhile to find the app to let me track my own recipes. Using the web page to add recipes could use clearer instructions, but it wasn't too hard to figure out. I use this for recipes I make while camping and creating categories to lump "Dutch oven" or "crockpot" recipes together is handy.

Does exactly what I wanted!. Have used Mastercook for years. It's a bit cumbersome, but I know all its quirks. I have saved all of my own recipes (400+) on there. When I got an iPad I was disappointed to learn that there was no Mastercook app. I definitely didn't want to retype them all. There are a few steps involved in uploading into Handy Cookbook (using iTunes), but it worked easily and without a hitch.

Just add one more thing. Please add a lock or password of some kind to keep my recipes safe If there is not some type of password option put on here I will have to delete this app so please put one on Thanks Big Updated thanks for putting a password on 
