Always works, love the phone-record feature!. I have used Recorder on every phone I’ve had since I bought it, years ago. That includes a 5S, 6+, 6S + and my 7+. Works perfectly with each one. It is an outstanding recorder for daily use in capturing audio in many situations. I use it when I want to document or remember a conversation. And occasionally for phone calls. Recorder’s best benefit is the superb quality of its phone call recordings. Easy to use, always effective. It’s simple to retrieve the audio files and edit them — or to transfer them to another app or to a Mac or PC for more extensive editing. If you have any challenges or questions of any kind, I’ve found Retronym, the developer, to be great with support and follow through. Their website has a FAQ and other sources of information available. Easy to give this five stars! I have never had anything except success with it; “it just works,” as described here. One last anecdote. Years ago, a friend’s father died unexpectedly. My ability to use Recorder to retrieve the last phone calls from his dad from an answering machine meant more to my grieving buddy than anything I have ever done for him as a friend, before or after. Recorder made that little gesture (a very big one, to my friend) very easy and simple. Recorder’s small cost has been justified many times over to me by its instant availability in my iPhone and its flexibility and usefulness — and for its reliability whenever I really need it. I feel slightly guilty, because I should’ve written this great review long ago. I take the app for granted because it works so well.

False advertising. Paid app price then learned had to pay for individual call recordings so cancelled immediately. I will look for the refund

Excellent app. Well worth the small price.. As a PR/marketing guy, I frequently take interviews over the phone to write my articles. The recording quality is excellent and the iPhone microphone easily picks up people talking over my speaker phone. I can now get rid of my 20 year old microtape recorder and just use my iPhone. The email function is limited to 5 mins worth of recording, so that's of small use. But the inclusion of the Wifi function is simply genius. Now I can directly transfer my 15-30 mins of interviews and save them on my PC, and then slice and dice the file for any use that I need. Thanks for putting this app together.

SCAM. Dont get this app it said i already had an account when i have never had this app before and it wouldnt let me request my password.

THE BEST QUALITY RECORDINGS ON AN IDEVICE. This is app is literally the best app for recording any audio on an iDevice. Idk what they've done but it comes out with the best sounding recordings for music out of any app I've bought. It's great for musicians who wanna get quick clean live recordings. Just make sure you're not blowing out the mic and for drummers usually the "sweet spot" is about 15-20ft away and maybe muffle the mic with a thin pillow. Absolutely wondrous sound. Can hear every nuance and articulation, same with any other instruments. And for voice calls, it also again reigns supreme! The ONLY gripe I have is not having a dedicated cloud to sync my recordings to without the use of wifi. That would be great cause then the recordings could be uploaded and deleted from your device to make room for new recordings. Not to mention it acts as a backup. Also, so glad you can now pull the files off without wifi, but i wish you didn't HAVE to do it through iTunes. But these are personal opinions, I still think the app deserves 5/5. No problems here, just thumbs up!!

Works great for outgoing calls only. I just made a number of outgoing recorded calls and personal memos (ambient room conversation recordings) and it worked great!! Quality of recording and ease of use are wonderful. You can turn off the "call is being recorded" announcement (a major plus for states where only one party needs to consent to recording a call) and both calls and recordings are crystal clear on 3G. Caller ID shows my own phone number. No issues at all with recorded audio. Sync via wifi is a necessary feature and worked perfectly for me. Format is AIFF so it loads into iTunes when you play it on a computer. Only flaw I found is a big one, though. DOESN'T WORK ON INCOMING CALLS!! Again, Outgoing calls and personal memos/room recordings work great, but no functionality to record incoming calls. Recording incoming calls is a necessary feature and should be a priority for the next update!

Dangerous !!!. From some other reviews that I've read it seems that a few people don't realize that (1) this is for iPhone and/or iPod Touch 2nd Generation and (2) an external microphone is needed to record. I have used it with an iPhone Stereo Headset and a ThumbTack (Google that !) and have no complaints at all. People using ThumbTack must remove it for playback. Now if we could use it without an external microphone it would be perfect ! Update - After using this app a couple of times a week with no problems something happened with it today that frighteneed me. I used it then found that I could not exit the app. Pressing the home button on my iPod Touch did nothing. I could not turn off the power to the iPod. I could not get back to the icon to delete it either. In short my iPod was frozen and useless. Finally I went to my iMac and deleted it in applications and when asked if I wanted to reinstall on my iMac (when I synced) said no and was finally able to get my iPod to work and uninstall it there. I almost had to drive to the nearest Apple Store ! Very scary.

Great Buy and a good deal. For .99 a month and thirteen bucks for eight hours of outgoing call recordings, the Recorder 10 is a great deal. Go out and price a digital recorder and all the accessories you need to record a clear telephone audio file and you will realize what a bargain it really is. I'm a writer and I just did a one hour and seven minute interview yesterday and I used the I-Pod ear buds and in line mic. The recording is as clear as a bell. And the Recorder 10 application is so easy to use, even a cave man could do it...:) Anyone who complains about the cost of this recorder and being charged for minutes should probably stick a pencil and notepad...We're talking about pennies per minute here...Five Stars!

I like it, but . . .. I was needing a way to record a telephone interview for my podcast and decided to give this app a try. 99 cents was worth a cool app that would accomplish this task and even when I discovered you have to purchase blocks of recording time that didn't bother me either. I opted for 1 hour of recording time for $1.99 for this first attempt. The only gripe I have with this app is the poor quality of the recorded interview. I even set the app to record at high quality and the recording, while acceptable, was pretty crappy sounding. I know they use a service to record the calls, hence the required purchase of blocks of time, but it would be nice if the service this app uses to record would up the quality. If the sound quality of the recorded output was better I'd use this app all the time to conduct telephone interviews and they'd make a ton off of me. But at the moment of this post I believe Skype is better to record telephone calls.

Upset. I have use this recording up for many years… And for the most part it’s great and does what you need to do. But just recently I had accidentally left the recorder going long after the period of time that I needed to record, and wanted to trim the recording. Every other single editing program in the world that I’ve used that has a cut function can cut out parts of the recording that you do not want. So I was happy to see this had that available, so I thought. I am so upset that their scissor icon for cutting out the section of the recording that you do not want, ends up KEEPING ONLY what you wanted to delete. It’s the absolute most ludicrous thing to select the portion that you want to cut, and use their scissor function to find out that it doesn’t cut that, it only keeps it and deletes the rest, more atrocious is the fact that you have no way to reverse the action!! Consequently I lost a very valuable recording. Very upset.

Great! How to make it a "Killer" application.... I love the simplicity and functionality. A number of good suggestions have already been made in other reviews but one "killer" feature would be to allow memos to quickly be tagged rather than named (which takes too much time to type a name) using a wheel type function in which you can predefine the categories you want to associate with your memos. Next and most important is to add the ability to set memos to play at preset times (just like the alarm functionality associated with events on your calendar) of alert you at a preset time (same as alarm function). Now you have a vocal productivity tool!! I would use this functionality to complement and possibly even replace my to do list task manger (of course it needs to be fast and easy to label tasks and set play time/date alarms.

Records More Than Just A Call.. This app came through for me in a huge way. I have some very dear friends who tragically lost their son in an accident. The outpouring from the community was overwhelming in the recorded voice mail messages that were left on their mobile and home phones. Utilizing this app, I was able to call into their voice mail and home answering machine to record all of the messages. Then I was ale to take the file via its wonderfully, easy to use wi-fi sync and download the recorded file. I could then easily convert it to MP3 and have it for the family to keep. It doesn't matter that I had to purchase recording time, my only suggestion would be that if you are charging for recording time, you should price the app as free. However, that was inconsequential as .99, then $1.99 for 60 minutes of recording time was a small price to pay to help my grief stricken friends. If you should decide to record messages this way, and use a smart phone, it helps that you can mute the handset so outside noise is not heard when recording the messages.

A Favorite. I'm a singer/songwriter. I use this app to record song ideas when I'm driving or walking. It is my favorite app for this purpose. I've used it through many versions. I use "free" features only. I do not record calls. Minor issues as in version current Sep. 28, 2011: (1) editing song title with bluetooth keyboard, the button that gets me back to the recordings list disappears until I shut my bluetooth keyboard off (2) switch between trimming track & editing title: landscape-portrait switch annoying because I prefer to lay my phone on counter and not have to hold it.

Great Voice Recorder!. I had this app since it's been released. It works great. Never shuts down sporadically as some other voice recording apps do. Syncs easily with my MacBook in minimal number of action steps. It doesn't require any extra software installation, it syncs using the Bonjour protocol. The recording quality is outstanding when set to High. The noise cancellation is greatly improved in recent versions. The user interface is simple and clear. The notes management is very easy task in this app. I recommend this app to everyone, who needs to record voice whether it is a short note or a long interview, whether it is recorded in noisy or in quiet environment. It saves me a lot of time and keeps my head clear.

Recorder is king!. I've tried all the iPhone voice recording apps. Recorder was one of the first, and is still the best for making quick recordings on the go with an absolute minimum of fuss. Transferring audio files over wi-fi works flawlessly. If you want more features, give one of the others a try. But Recorder is the recording app I always reach for. Update: Tried the new Voice Memos app that comes with the 3.0 software update. Still prefer Recorder. Transferring sound files via wireless ftp is much easier than emailing individual recordings. Long recordings would also be very tough to email from the iPhone. Voice Memos has a much cooler microphone logo, but Recorder is a superior audio recorder.

Must buy app for students!. I LOVE THIS APP!! but... I have a view notes to the developer. See, I use this app to record lectures at school. Each lecture is an hour and a half long and I love the fact that you can wifi sync and or email the recording. At the moment you can only email recordings 5 minutes or less. Hopefully this changes in the near future to allow longer recordings to be emailed. Now using wifi sync is the coolest thing since slice bread but it works half the time for me. I can download between 2-30 min recordings 100% of the time. But trying to download at hour and a half long lecture over wifi works half the time. Usually the program quits just when I'm within 30 seconds of finishing the download and the file is not complete. Not sure if this is a Retronyms bug or apple firmware 2.0.2 bug (iphone) but I think its Apple's! =). but besides those two gripes this is my most used app. absolutely worth my dollar!

Doesn’t work. Downloaded app paid for app Paid for credits. Tried to call. Only get busy signals

Recorded A Concert !. I used this to record Chris Cornell at West Palm Beach, Fl. It was very easy to record and seperate the tracks, and it works with the screen off so I conserved battery and didn't make it obvious I was recording. The sound isn't professional of course but is a great souvenir, I expected much worse quality. I listened in the car and with headphones but since it's more than 2 minutes per song I can't email it. I'm just going to use GarageBand and an audio cable to get them on my iMac but I'm hoping the next update lets you email. AND I hope the next update doesn't delete the files already there. Anyway, I do like it, I just didn't give it the full stars since I can't email it yet.

Recorder, An Amazing new App!. Hi, I am an apple iPhone Dwveloper and a businessman, this App is great for recording my business and corporate Meetings as well as making Notes To Self. I am also taking college Courses in Nuclear Physics and Hoppe to become a Nuclear Physics teacher! I record all lectures and important Class Periods NOTE TO ALL HIGH SCHOOL/COLLEGE STUDENTS: Check with your Principal/headmaster You should not bring your phone and place it on your desk to wait for instruction! Some schools will say "if it transmits information it cannot be in the class, ask them if you could record without a SIM Card and wait for Approval, all students by law must know that they are being recorded, because if they say something that is recorded they can sue You! Note to the VoiceNotes App: Yeah sure it's free but you may only record short notes not long classes email feature will crash your phone, and during the 2.0.2 update people got their phones bricked. Recorder is Highly Reccomended!

Three Years of Work... Gone?!. I hold out hope that a future version can fix what this version ruined, but the realist in me has started the grieving process. I'm a songwriter who used this app to vocally flesh out ideas, over the course of months or even a year or two. When I boot up the app and find that all my almost-there ideas won't play, I feel like while I thought I was immortalizing fleeting flickers of inspiration to congregate as songs, in actuality I was just corralling lambs for the slaughter. Recorder, fix this—by which I mean save/recover my old files, the outpourings of my muse for the hope of completion and professional recording—and I will give you the five-star review this app deserved before this data-destroyer of an update. But until then, know that this one in a flurry of one-star reviews accurately reflects this back-stabbing iteration of your once-great software.

Nice update. I've been delighted with this program from day one. The level meter in the update isn't just for looks. It gas helped a great deal, a eliminated worry about recording quality. Excellent, developers. For those wondering about recording phone conversations, the developers would have to deal with some touch stuff. If you record a phone call in a two-party (you and the caller must be in the know) consent state, if you don't make it known you're recording (even if the conversation is with your beloved mother) it ain't legal. Believe me, as a newspaper newsfeature witer specializing in investigative projects, I'd *love to have the ability to record phone interviews, but I've long learned I mostly have to live without. Nice job, developers. Thanks for the update.

Not happy. I just paid $.99 for the app just to learn I had to then pay for credits for calls. Don’t recommend. Don’t waste your time.

Fabulous application. I really like this application and it is truly fabulous. However, I would love to see some improvements. 1.) An option where you can listen to the message through the iPhone earpiece and not the mouthpiece speakers. This will enable you to listen to your message privately without those around you hearing what you may not have meant for them to hear. It also provides the ability to hear in crowded situations. 2.) The ability to send the memo file via e-mail instead of receiving the message on a website. The website option is a fabulous idea however, there are some that prefer to have the file itself so that they may play in on there own computer using the Apple format... QuickTime. Other than this I can really see nothing at the moment that would need improvement. This is truly a fabulous piece of software and I congratulate the writers. Nice job!

Almost a great app. This app has a lot of potential. It almost lets the iPhone replace yet another device that I haul around with me - the pocket dictaphone. But alas, it doesn't. I often need to take recorded notes in my laboratory, while I work with both hands. Later, these notes are transcribed into the project files. How great to be able to store those notes as a computer file instead of a pile of microcassettes! What another cool thing to do with the iPhone! Unfortunately, there is no way to pause during a recording. I can't sit through an hour of silence, waiting for the notes I need, and I can't use a hundred separate files from a day's work. I'd pay ten times the price if this app had a "pause" button and voice-activated start/stop.

Don't use this to record anything vital. An average recorder especially if you have no plans to wifi back to your computer. I taped a very important speech that I can see and hear on my iphone, but when i try to sink it (wifi) to my computer, it doesnt appear on the website-it's like it is invisible. I have been trying to contact customer service by email (no phone number is provided). I did receive one email response that did not solve the issue. I sent 2 more emails. There is no phone number to call. I even sent an email to please call me and I have gotten no response. If I ran my company without a real customer support, I'd be out of business. What ever happened to being able to call and speak with a customer support rep? Thumbs down on this one, friends.

Awesome. Awesome app. Definately worth more than $1. I like the simple choice between high quality (to record my baby talking) and low quality (to record voice notes to myself). I also like the fact that you can use wifi to get the large recordings off the iPhone without needing to install a client application on the computer. I agree with the other reviewer, it would be nice for the app to be aware of the accelerometer, so that when you hold the iPhone upside down (so the mic and speaker are facing you) the interface on the screen would flip and have the proper orientation.

Still Doesn't Work. This app hasn't worked for years on my iPhone 6 Plus. The update does nothing to change that. Will not open. Crashes immediately. Please fix it. It was actually very useful several years ago

Payments and using. You buying this app and still need to pay for credits to record your calls. Not comfortable to use. One of worst recording apps

Simple and solid. Very reliable.. I've downloaded several recorder apps, and all but this one have disappointed me. I've used Recorder to record sensitive phone calls, interview hi-profile clients, and document important meetings. To me, the most important thing is that the recorder DOESN'T FAIL in a sensitive (i.e. one shot) situation. When your phone logs out, or if you exit and use other apps, the recorder KEEPS GOING. The status bar of your phone glows red so you know it is still recording even when your phone is outside of the password screen. Totally solid, and barely any battery drain. I've read some of the negative reviews here, and maybe some people just expect everything for free, but buying recording time is really affordable and completely worth it. I would label this one of my few irreplaceable apps, because you never know when you are going to need it. It's simple and awesome. The only drawback is that you can't email a file over 5MB, which most of your recordings will be, but you can connect through WiFi and offload them to your computer. Make sure to do this in case you lose your phone. Future updates should allow File Transfer through iTunes as some of its competitors do.

Great application! Blows away my $50 Sony digital recorder.. This is a great application. Simple to use and good quality recordings. I've only used it with the built-in iPhone mic, but even with this, the quality FAR exceeds my $50 Sony digital recorder. Plus, I can download the recordings to my computer which I can't do with the Sony (which is PC only). For recording memos or, as I do, musical ideas, Recorder can't be beat. My only negative is that you can't adjust the input volume. I wrote an email to Retronyms asking about this and received a personal response just six hours later. I was impressed. They say that the iPhone uses a fixed input level. They suggested using an external mic as an option. This only becomes an issue when recording fairly loud jams though. For normal recording, Recorder is just great. For $1, you can't go wrong. Really!

Wow, the capabilities. Great quality recording and all around great app. E-mail with a couple touches or if it's too big (5MB, which is around 5 min) wi-fi sync it flawlessly with your laptop (on the same network). A very responsive app. Had a problem that bit me in the .... though. Careful when recording more than 5 minutes where power goes off. Tested it after problem and couldn't replicate the problem under same and many more conditions, meaning it can record fine when it powers itself off. Don't know what happened. Also the forementioned 5MB limit shouldn't be an issue when it's connected to wi-fi but it seems to be. Apple proprietary recorder coming with 3.0 better be perfect for me to use it over this one. Thanks Retronyms!

Very Nice, Very Easy!. This app does what it says it will. Records very good quality audio and syncs with ease. Has a Progress Bar while playing the recording so you can scroll to the part of the track you wish to find quickly. Wifi sync is the easiest I've tried, and the email sync feature sends a 10-day link to your mailbox (or your friends email) for your recording. No special software to install on your laptop. No special service to sign up to. It really is SUPER simple. One note: BE SURE to touch the "i" icon and select "High Quality Recording" to get the most out of the iPhone's mic. It really is a very good mic, so you might as well get the most out of it! To the developer: It would be cool to see a "mic level" slide bar.

Much better.. Update: Not only did the developer respond promptly to my e-mail (!), a fix for the problem described below was already in the works, it is now available (v6.x), and has solved the problem. This app is now, in my opinion, the best of the (simple) recorder apps. I do have one other issue I hope the developer will consider addressing: The recording currently playing will lose its focus if you touch another recording. At that point, you cannot determine which recording is playing. I suggest maybe a "play/pause" button be located to the left of the recording name that will always remain active for the currently playing recording - even when the currently playing recording looses its focus. Something like the way iTunes addresses the same issue. ========= I am with Phily Jeff on this: The app records fine, but I just cannot get to the rename/email screen. No matter how or where I touch the "blue arrow", all it does is play the recording. Yep, Jeff -- very frustrating. I have emailed the developer and will update my review depending on the outcome.

Good sound quality, but some significant limitations. The sound quality on this thing is great; basically it's exactly what you'd want in a recorder. There are still some problems with manipulating the files, though. I downloaded version 3 earlier this evening, hoping to be able to sync a sound file I'd recorded earlier to the IBook I'm using in a hotel room. * Recorder doesn't sync your memos to ITunes; apparently Apple hasn't provided an interface for this yet * You can email your sound files to yourself, but - significantly - Recorder won't email files over five minutes in length. Wish I'd known this earlier; I could have simply stopped and started my recording at five minute intervals. I don't see any mention of this five minute limit in the description of the app either on ITunes or the developer's website, though. * You can sync your memos with your laptop wirelessly, which is 100% useless to a person sitting in a hotel room where there's no WiFi availability. I suppose I could go try to hunt down a coffeeshop, but why was the ability to sync using a USB cable omitted from this version of the app? It's still great, but it's not getting five stars from me until these problems are rectified. It's easily worth $.99, though.

Nice app but, as always, foibled by limitations. This has the potential for being one of the most useful items in my entire household (even outside the iPhone). I am experimenting with using it as a short item dictation machine for letters and writing projects for example. Some suggestions/glitches: - PRIVACY No one in their right mind wants to upload anything to anywhere after all the telecoms sold us out to Cheney & Squad. - the slider jams&freezes very easily when fast forwarding...allow the recording to be named BEFORE it's titled "MEMO" - to email, the upload is ridiculously long and cumbersome... should be able to transfer the recordings to the main computer for storage in iTunes as a MP3 or other file by way of sync or something simple... by creating an MP3 or other standard type file, should be emailable from iPhone without uploading as well... but then the iPhone doesn't handle attachments outgoing DOES IT??!!?$$ Have the app save the recording in the iPhone's iTunes app and then allow it to sync into the computer for storage and access from the computer's Garageband, iTunes etc. etc. I MADE THE RECORDING FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, NOT COLUMBIA RECORDS!!

Why people are giving a 1-star rating. There seem to be a lot of iPod touch owners who download this app and think it will turn their media player directly into a recording device. The iPod Touch does not have a built-in microphone. This is common sense- you can't record something without a microphone. The iPhone has a microphone, and this app works really well. The high quality mode encodes in AIFF format. If you have an iPod Touch, be sure you can use your microphone with a free recording app before buying this nicer program. People are giving this app a 1-star rating because it magically does not add a microphone to the iPod Touch. Ignorance and spite are a dangerous combination.

Works great for me…various 'Phones. Are use it all the time for speech and music rehearsal recording… Never have had a problem The Wi-Fi download is very handy… I only wish it preserved date and time stamp (which are very handy to have, thank you) Thank you!

Good...needs a few improvements. This is a pretty good App, but I have a few suggestions. The Good: easy to use, cheap, great interface, no trouble with "crashing"/freezing up my iPhone, can change the names of your saved recordings, can rewind/fast forward/pause during playback. Suggestions: 1. You should be able to change the order of your saved recordings, so if you tend to replay the first recording you ever made over and over (but have 20 other saved recordings since the App's first use), you don't have to scroll to the bottom each time to listen to it. You can just move it to the top. 2. Have a "Pause" button during recording, so you can record something...pause (during a lull/something you don't want to hear)...then resume recording. That way you don't have to stop recording each time and have like five saved recordings that really should be streamed together under one saved "memo". 3. And, of course, the iPhone's own capabilities may limit this (b/c it cannot "hear"/record the stream of noise you are trying to capture well enough), but it would be nice if playback of your recordings was louder/clearer. Most of the time you can only faintly hear things that were recorded unless the noise/voice is really close to the microphone. Overall, well worth the money! Buy it! I trust that the developers will listen to our suggestions and run with them!

Tweeting Audio New Possibilities. I have had this app since the very beginning when it first appeared on the app store with the original iPhone. When the Voice Memo app came with the 3GS, I thought this app was dead. Far from it. This app has always been one if not several steps ahead of the native iPhone app. Sound quality is better hands down. And now with the new Tweet option, that's so cool. I can now record a short conversation or do an interview withe call recording feature and share it on Twitter as soon as I'm done. Too cool. The icon might not be the prettiest thing out there, but this app has been solid for the 2 1/2 years I've had it. And although I haven't even tried to share with Garage Band, the capability is there, possibilities keep going. You won't regret the 99 cents. One of the few apps I have that keep getting upgraded for so little money.

excellent value!. For 99 cents it's hard to find fault about something that does what it says it would do - and then some. I am using the new $79 Apple in-ear headphones w/Mic. My first recording was OK but rather lo-fi sounding. Then I turned on the "High Quality" recording and sang the same thing. WOW! Huge difference! Now I can finally use the iPod touch as I had intended - to make audio notes and record melodies. I then used Bonjour through Safari to transfer my test recordings, which was almost instantaneous. My hat's off to Retronyms - you guys have done an excellent job - can't wait to see further options if any, but this is excellent!

Time delay? Static? Horrible!. Needed this app to do high-profile interviews. Used it once and will NOT use it again. It was humiliating. There was an obvious time delay, causing us to talk over each other and making me hesitate to ask important questions, which was the point. Then, though I had 5 bars, there was a lot of static on both sides, meaning it sounded shoddy to her and won't provide accuracy for fact checkin for me (again, the WHOLE point). I called a relative to test the connection, and tested both high quality and regular through the app. High quality was worse; he could barely hear me for either. Then I called him back without using the app, and guess what? Clear as a bell. Because you have to call first to a center and the. Be connected, I'm assuming this quality problem is caused by that. Really shameful. I now have 6+ hours of recording time that I can't use, and an interview looming for which I have NO option. Waste of money!!

great for a songwriter & for easy wifi transfer to desktop. I am a songwritinger/ singer, and this is my favorite recording app so far. Something that I like about this app, is that I can connect up to wifi quickly, and all of my files will be there, ready to download easily. Other apps you have to choose each file and then download, which takes a lot longer. ...there are a couple things that I wish this app would do, and that is to have an option to start recording right away, as sometimes I'm in the car, and I'd like it to just start recording without having to fiddle with too many button selections. I also wish there was a feature to "play all," as sometimes I'd like to listen to all my ideas one after another. I also wish there was a "delete all," so that after I've downloaded through wifi, then I can toss it quickly. ...but all in all, it's still my favorite app for getting my ideas down.

It a good app. I like this recorder but I have some tips to make it more user friendly: it is easier to use if you flip your iPhone upside down. This allows the record button to be tapped much easier with your thumb, also allows you to talk into the mouth piece and because the speakers are on the bottom of the phone ( ipone flaw ) by flipping it upside down during record and play back it allows the sound to be directed up toward your ears. Perhaps the developer could rework this so that the words would be in the right direction when using it as I suggest. Also it would be nice if the record and stop would change to a different color to help identify which mode you are in at a quick glance. Should be able to do multiple deletes instead of one at a time. Don't get me wrong .... I like this app and I'm going to use it everyday, it is a great buy as is. I just see the potential to be great!

Excellent app. Recorder works exactly as advertised. I've used it several times in the few days since making the purchase. It's amazing how often you just need to leave a verbal note for yourself or send a friend a voice message by email. The email feature is simple to use and speedy on 3G; and, if you follow the developers download instructions on the memo retrieval site (i.e., where you end up if you click the link in the email and read the FAQs), you can store the file on your computer and use iTunes to convert from aiff to mp3. You now have a voice file that can permanently reside on your iPod/Phone. Imagine capturing a message from grandma or the kids at one point in time. I'm sure there are other ways to achieve the same result, but this is your best bet if all you have is your phone and 99 cents.

Don’t download. There’s no way to communicate problems I paid $ and can’t use Terrible

Simple, Elegant, Extremely Useful. As a videogame journalist I often need to conduct interviews with gaming industry figures. I've been through a number of audio recording devices in an effort to make it simple to record conversations for later transcription, and even the $200 dedicated handheld machines aren't as easy to use or simplistically useful as Recorder. For only one dollar you get an almost utilitarian program that records any length of audio (with surprisingly fantastic audio fidelity) that can then be uploaded to your computer via wifi or played back via the iPhone's speakers or earbuds. I love that I can simply set my iPhone on a table, hit record, then conduct a conversation that will be picked up without flaws, even with those who speak far more quietly than they should. It doesn't quite get a perfect score, though. One feature missing is the ability to record phone calls made with the iPhone. I have to conduct interviews via phone pretty often and not having to type while speaking (so as to not miss crucial details) would be a huge boon. Even without that though, Recorder is totally worth the low price of admission. Even if you don't need it professionally, a single dollar is a steal for a program that lets you take voice notes when you're out running errands.

Update: Recording phone calls NOW WORKS!. Update: Call recording now works! It took Apple's server a little bit of time to approve my purchase of 1 hour of call recording. After restarting the app, I saw one hour added to the available time, so I gave it a go. I called my best friend and talked for 46 sec before I hang up on him (he knew the call was being recorded; a female voice notified both of us before the call began). The recording downloaded in under 15 sec over Edge and exactly 46 sec were subtracted from the 1 hour. The sound quality is great, btw. Retronyms, well done! --------------- I have been wondering what happened to the server that records the calls so I contacted Retronyms (hint: if u r serious about reviewing an App, contact the developers first) It turns out that Retronyms is waiting for Apple's approval of the pay-as-you-go call recording. This means that you can get an hour of call recording for something like $1.99, or purchase 8 hours at a discounted price. Unlike cell phone carriers, the time of a recording will be measured in seconds, not minutes! After a call is recorded, you get to download the recording to your phone, or keep it on the server. Can't wait to use this new service!

PROBLEM FOR THE DEVELOPERS, PLEASE FIX!!. So here's the problem. When I record and receive a text message or a phone call, the recording stops. But that's not the problem. The "memo" that was interupted does not show a length of time, only size and the time started. Soooo, what happens when I try to WiFi link it and download it on my computer, the computer does NOT see that memo! And apparently, if it's a large audio file, I can't email it either!!! PLEASE, PLEASE FIX THIS!!! I love your product, except for this issue. In the mean time, I guess the work around would be putting the phone in "airplane mode". But that is a far second to getting this app to work correctly. Thanks in advance!

Scam Alert. It doesn't record outgoing call and the worst part is they don't refund you when you as for it. Don't waste your money and time, this is an scam Apple is letting these scammer getting away with what they are doing.

Solid and reliable as ever. (Updated review) The app continues to run well and work for me. Totally handy in a pinch, the regular quality is decent enough but turning on high-quality makes it much better (in the More Options tab). I have put Call Recording to use since my last review and it's solid. Yes, there is a fee -- so many people seem oblivious to that even though it's right there in the app description -- but it's well worth it in my opinion. But mostly I still use the app for recording environmental sounds and things on the go (which is great because I don't always have my pro recorder with me), it's served me really well as a standby.

Rubbish. Completely rubbish sound quality. the only reason I tried this was because the FAR superior (sound quality wise) VoiceNotes has a 2 minute limit and you can't email or transfer the recordings *sigh* what I need is Voicenotes quality with the ability to actually USE THE DAMN FILE!

Thanks for listening. This app. Works well however it would great if you rename your memos rather than being stuck with memo 1 etc. Update... Thanks for listening, the update is great. Love the graphical changes, and the ability to rename the memos. The icon looks much better too. Great work guys.

Does record calls, doesn't even have the option. The person who said it work in australia is a liar as the app doesnt even have the record button when you download it. Don't waist your money doesn't do what is advertised. Totally misleading.

Very limited- here's why:-. Recorder. Navigation: • Produces a compressed waveform format. The whole recording is shown in a 4 cm long strip. • Record and Playback timer in tenths of seconds. • input volume meter. WHAT IT DOES:- • Records, pause recording, continue recording. • When you press stop, it files the recording. • Allows editing of name. • the only options with a file are: Playback, or trim the ends to leave a section that REPLACES the original recording, which is now gone forever. • Share recording by WiFi and Email. • Playback volume ok for closeup recording; only fair for distance. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO:- • NO Edit recordings apart from trim ends, leaving a section that replaces the original. • NO Overwrite anywhere in recording • NO Append more at end of recording once stop pressed. • NO Insert feature (far more useful than the usual overwrite that most have, which destroys any following recording). • NO mark and delete unwanted bits. • NO macros. Useful for storing often used phrases, and also for templates, • NO scrolling real-time waveform. This would allow accurate marking for cutting of even a single sound, e.g. a cough. Not possible on a compressed waveform. It doesn't matter here: you can't edit recordings anyway. • NO Voice activated recording to avoid silences. • NO Bookmarks that can be inserted during recording, and playback, listed and editable. • NO ability to shuffle and assemble saved clips to form new recording. OVERALL IMPRESSION:- • Very basic, very limited. Very few features as a recorder. Losing the original recording once trimmed is a big negative.

Not happy, performance below average.. Not worth it, the voice recording quality is less than average I could hardly recognise my own voice. If you value quality don't bother I wasted my money and time.

Great App, far superior to others. While I think the sound quality could improve, this app is flawless in its interface and design. The Wi-Fi sync feature is excellent, overall it's well worth the small price you pay.

DON'T BUY. DON'T BUY THIS APP!! DOES NOT WORK!! WORTHLESS APP!!

Just keeps getting better. I think this was my first purchase, in the first week after the July 11 launch. It really works well and just gets better and better. The new WiFi file transfer is SO easy, the send by email works. Now has high quality recording and pause. Pretty much it. 6 stars if you could do the basic edit of tidying up each end of the sound file. I don't think it should become the all singing, all dancing, does everything. Just do one thing the best. I reckon this developer is up for it. They just keep making it better.

Rubbish.. Doesn't work. Don't bother.

BUG. This recorder does not play what you recorded! Usless!!!

Ignore other Aussie post. A previous poster said that the 'new version worked in Australia'. Well - the app itself works - but the call recording does not and probably never will.

Nice little appy. Just what i wanted. simple app to record and save multiple memos. thankyooouuu.

Does not work. Will not record while a call is being made. Useless waste of money, not happy!

Fantastic app! Huzzah!. I've tried almost all the competition, I love being able to take quick voice notes and reminders, but it shines when recording ambient sounds and multiple person conversations, sound quality? Superior to all others I've tried, wifi transfer? Fantastic!

Australian trial. They are correct, it does not work outside of US. Don't know if it works in the US.

uhm.... this app`s call-recording tool in screenshoot!... why no call-recording tool??

Recorder Doesn't Work.... The application doesn't work... It doesn't play back any audio when a recording is finished. The volume is turned up on my iPhone, all other applications access the microphone without any issues. Anyone else having problems?

Almost perfect. What would be excellent would be the ability to email recordings longer that 5 mind when wifi was available. This would make the app a 5 star experience.

Not happy feel ripped off. It does NOT have the option to record phone calls. It is simply a voice recorder. False advertising. Please can I have my money back, or an app that records calls?

Awful. This app is absolutely horrific. Constantly freezing and doesn't do what it's supposed to. Don't recommend it to anyone.

Application don t work to record call. Fake representation.... Don t buy that...

New sync feature. Very impressed with new sync feature, much better for getting large clips to your mac / pc - using a web browser !

Don't buy it!. I installed 2times, it doesn't work. Keep it freezing .... Want money back!

Better than Apple Voice Memos. Great if you want to record hours long audio. Access your file via URL. No problem dealing with large files. Great app but the new icon is really ugly. Go back to previous one? I almost didn't update to keep the old one.

Recording not working at all for calls. Recording not working at all for calls and very bad foe memos or other necessities . Apple recorder is zoo much better! I paid thinking I'll get something in return not way ur getting smithing from this cr4ppy app!!? Don't buy!!

Pay to record my call?. The app does not state that to use call recording you have to buy time from an call recording company NOT "THE PHONE COMPANY!", the price is 1.99 hour or 12.99 per 12 hours. I need to recall calls to confirm conversations on critical issues and my Nokia did this without issue, even inserted the beep to indicate a recorder call and best it was free.

President. Ce système ne permet pas d'enregistrer des conversations telephoniques

False Representation. Wish I had read the reviews before purchasing. Simply doesn't work. If it was more money I would hire a lawyer. Buyer beware.

Works very well. Though there are free aplications that are very similar to this..... I found this one to work a bit better for me, and for a buck I don't mind paying for the extra functionality.

Mailing mps. The description said I could email small mp3 files, but it only lets me upload the file to their site and mail the html address of the upload to someone. That isn't what I was expecting and I'm not pleased at all. There is a difference in level of security between emailing a file and uploading a file to an unsecure site for download.

Horrible app for saving recordings. The app says it offers to save recordings to emails or sync with wifi. It doesn't work, keeps telling me it is too large a file to sync and save. Not worth using if you can't easily save you memo.

Need adjustable sound quality. The sync feature works great using a browser. Would like adjustable (improved) sound quality. I like the fact that it creates common AIFF files.

Excellent - except sound quality. Amazing - you can record a sound - it automatically names it, but you can rename it as needed (handy to make memo reminders while driving when you can't type). The cool thing about this app is that you can transfer it to any computer via wi-fi. It connects to their server and uploads the file, then you use any PC to go to the URL it tells you on the iPhone screen, and you can download the AIFF file. Really slick. If you choose to e-mail the file, it uploads the file to their server, then sends an e-mail containing a link you click on, to retrieve the file stored on their server (holds it there for 10 days). The only downside... Compared to other iPhone sounds recording apps: the sound quality is poor, and there is no way to adjust it. Also, the sounds isn't very loud. Even with the speaker volume on the iPhone cranked to max, you can barely hear the recording.

Great Idea.... But can we record phone conversations with it? This would be very useful!

Not working. Call recording not working !

I erased it. I have an older cell and has incoming & Outgoing installed in it free all the time ericsson710 since 2005

Lost my data. I just downloaded the new update and I lost all of my reorsings!! I'm a musician and songwriter so I just lost 2 months worth of ideas

Very disapointed. Bought this stupid app trying to record saved answering machine messages. And I can't record nothing. I want my money refunded. Extremely disappointed. Just a scam

Piece of "SH*T". As stated above......

It doesn. The application was meant to allow users to record phone calls but Apple blocked every recording applications from doing that. We just can't anymore :-(

I cannot beleive they charge $$$ for use on an hourly basis. I erased it 'cause I'd rather light my money on fire than keep this on my phone. Voice recorder works better and its free.

Brilliant saves carrying a recorder around.. Excellent and dead simple to use. It means one less gadget (Minicorder) to carry about and this program is fast and easy to operate.Looks very flashy too! I never realised what the iphone could do until I started looking at it carefully and realised that a gadget I nearly gave up on (PDA's/Smartphones have always stressed me out) is one of the best aids to productivity ever and once you fine tune it to your needs it is brilliant - just read the manual! I am just wondering now how many other apps are on the site to save me a bundle of time and stress.

The Record button doesn't work.. ERRGGggHHH>>> y is it the record button doesn't work? After I hit the record button..It doesn't record anything..I tried to reboot my device but it gives me the same result.. and then I try to reinstall it and nothing changes.. what a waste!

A great tool for the visually impaired. I am slowly going blind and recently had some eye surgery that has left me with blurry vision which will continue until about November. I have been using this program to respond to emails. I can read emails (I have everything in large print on my laptop and iPhone) but my vision fatigues easily so I thought I'd reduce the reading by using this program for my email replies. It works GREAT! Easy to use, easy to email, and the audio quality is quite good. This app is well worth the price!! :)

solid voice recorder. sound quality is good, even when recording multiple people in a conference room. Big thanks for integrating the email feature, but a two minute limit is a bit short. I wish there was a way to get the AIFF files off the iPhone by other means (sync to iTunes would be swell). Another workaround could be to implement an option to only record two minutes at a time, so you don’t have to watch the clock running.

Wasn't my favorite. I just downloaded three different recorders for comparison. I was only comparing sound quality not any other features. Recorder and Quick Voice were quieter/less volume recordings when music in the room was playing and were both a little muffled when I was speaking. I tried with and without headset for recordings and for playback. iRecorder seemed to fair best of the three with more clarity in the playback and a higher volume for the music in the room (although it was still not as loud as I would have liked).

Amazing Support for an inexpensive App!. I second the notions that this little app has lots of room to grow (specifically more options for getting bigger recordings off the iphone and improving emailing/uploading). But I have to say the support is TOP NOTCH. Wrote their support for suggestions on how to get a large recording off the iphone and these guys wrote me back within minutes with helpful advice. I haven't gotten support like that from products costing literally a thousand times more. Be patient, and this app will be killer in no time!

Best of the available iphone recording options.. I'd give it four and a half stars. Best of the available iphone recording options. Much better than others costing more. It's simple, elegant, easy to use. And the feature of downloading audio to computer by web-page mediated wifi (or is it wifi mediated web-page?) is wonderful--although it would be nice to directly cut and paste from connected machine. One of my favorite apps.

The best. I have tried several recording apps and like this one the best. • It has the easiest method of syncing recordings to a computer • With version 6 it has high quality recordings. Great for making studio quality recordings. • The authors have come out with 5 major updates! More for your money. • Has just about every feature a simple audio recorder should have: eq display, scroll through recordings, sync, one touch recording, etc. Highly recommend.

Easy and sufficient. I needed a simple app for simple recording. This works well. I recorded a 35m lesson with no problem. The app is smart enough to shut the screen off to conserve battery. I was able to easily download the recording to my computer with the WIFI. I am also able to record letters and send them to my secretary where she can download and type them out. You can also stick your phone in your shirt pocket and record your conversations. Which may prove helpful later!

A must-have app for professionals. I run my own business, and this app is a must-have professional tool. My favorite feature is Call Recording: I can record phone calls -meetings, interviews, updates, and discussions while I'm on the go. I also attend quite a few conferences and record parts of the presentations so that I can go back and review. I use this app daily for recording ideas, notes, memo's or reminders. All of is possible because of the easy-to-use interface because I can launch the app and begin recording on the spur of the moment...which happens quite often. Very reliable app...I really am not sure what some people are complaining about. Sounds like they might be having hardware problems with their phone (or user error), not with the app itself. I haven't experienced any of the issues described.

Nice, Simple App. Good job! Works as advertised - easy to record, easy to download. Love that I don't need a 3rd party app to download recordings. Would love to see a password required before the Bonjour client can connect (like the AirSharing app). Also would appreciate a Pause button during Record. Sometimes I get interrupted mid-recording, and I'd like to not have to merge separate recordings in yet another app. Would also like to not have to join Facebook just to provide feedback to Retronyms.

e-mailing recordings not OK. If you are attracted to this product by the idea of being able to e-mail voice messages to friends and colleagues you will probably be disappointed as I have been. I have recorded 2 short messages of less than 10 seconds. The e-mail was received fine with the invitation to click on the internet link. It looked very easy. Then after clicking on the 'play' sign in the link, the first message did not play at all and the second got truncated after 4 seconds. This is what happened to me. So it does not seem I will be able to rely on this feature. Without it, the product is an OK recorder.

Incredible -- worth much more than 99 cents!. Version 4 now allows you to sync long recordings, which came in handy just in time for me. Last week I recorded audio of a meeting at work and was able to sync/download to my computer the day version 4 came out. Not only does this come in handy at meetings, but imagine the other ways this could help "prove" what someone really said...!!

great personal support. purchased the phone and had a small problem, volume wasn't turned up in program so thought it wasn't working - emailed the company and I got a fast personalized reply - not one of those automated ones! works fine now - I just didn't realize I had to turn volume up when I was actually playing back message (otherwise just turning up ringer)... duh...

Can't get it to record. I cannot get this app to record at all. It will not even call the person, and once it even called someone whose number I did not input. I was trying to call my mother and it called a total stranger who answered the phone in a different language. I am surprised that this app has so many good reviews, but it is truly a useless app. I regret the .99 cents I spent on it, and the additional 1.99 I spent for an hour block of recording. There is no way to test if the app works without buying the 1.99 hour block of recording (as it is the minimum number of credits you can buy), so I only had prior reviews to go on. Sadly, it does work at all. I'd stay away from this app.

For once, a little too simple. I like the minimalistic big-red-button design, but this is pushing the limit. You can't rename the recordings, so they're inconveniently named "Memo 1" or "Memo 3." This makes it difficult to find specific recordings. You can't email or otherwise save the recordings. So what's the use? I like to keep some recordings forever. It wouldn't be difficult to add a save or email feature.

My 1st application download. This was my 1st application download. My wife said she needed a recorder, I figured for $0.99, I'd try it out. Works great, totally painless to download and sync to the iPhone. Being a newb, I didn't figure out that it used the speakerphone, but the app volume needed to be turned up. I contacted Retronyms, they returned my e-mail in about 3 minutes ?!?!? On a Saturday afternoon ?!?!? Now that's service / support !!! Note, as this is my 1st review, I am hesitant to give 5 stars. But, so far I have found nothing to dislike about this app, and the support was unbelievable. Chris Heinz

Great application, extremely useful.. This application was great to begin with but the addition of being able to wi-fi your recordings to your computer makes this application extremely useful and a must have. For 99 cents, you have a extremely capable voice recorder. The ability to e-mail your recordings is extremely useful as well. Would like to have the capability to index my recordings but that would be just icing on the cake.

excellent. Got this app a while back, had problems not being able to sync large recordings over wi-fi, emailed the developers and heard back from them within a day and they told me they were addressing this problem, with the new update it downloads the whole file and saved it right to my i-tunes, it still cannot send recordings over 5 minutes in an e-mail but the wi-fi feature works great now, thanks.

Needs better quality. I've tested other apps that record, and this has the worst quality of sound. I have a 3G and I have to BLAST my sterio to hear anything, and I can still barely hear the distorted garbage that comes out of my phones speaker. I do the same with other apps an they'll distort a little but I can actually hear it. Plus with other apps I can record something at a crisp volume with a good outcome, instead of what's basically whispers with this.

Great sound recording, fair price. Looks great, EASY, but needs a pause button, ability to name recording what you want, and a stop button when replaying a recording. Right now I have to drag slider to far right to stop a recording play back or click completely out of program. .99 for this simple program though is worth it. More money for what's there? No. Make above changes and I'd gladly pay more. Keep your sale price going until next update. Hoping you update soon. Thanks for program!

Must have if you have a nasty x wife or husband.. I upgraded to iphone 4 and the call feature would just sit there and not place a call.(Fix)plug in your phone to itunes uncheck it in your apps, apply, let it finish then check it again and apply sync. works again. phew. I need this app the most because of a nasty X wife, and to doc all her nastyness. Judges love prof, instead of hear say. lol

A Great Little Product, and Great Customer Service. I think this is a terrific product. I am a history student who needed to record several outgoing calls as primary research for a paper on a fairly recent event. I recorded a good half-hour of material in my first call. While I did have one problem--it failed to download correctly to my iPhone--I had a very pleasant experience with their customer service reps and was able to download the file quickly after letting them know. Highly recommended.

New Features = Great App!. I've had Recorder for a little over a month now and had used it to record audio during a concert I went to earlier in August. While the audio I captured was pretty impressive for such a small mic, I could not get the tracks off of my phone and onto my computer due to their large size. The update to Recorder has addressed this issue in a great way - allowing me to synch my files back to my computer via wifi. This is such a great app and the customer support is superb. Great value for your buck!

A good voice recorder - needs some more features. I like the simplicity and ease of use for recording and play back. I did prefer the numbers that were appended to the default names in the earlier version. Need to be able to PAUSE and restart the same recording. Also, I would really like a way to DELETE ALL of the recordings at once. After I have recorded 50+ messages to myself, it takes a long time to delete all of them, one-by-one and start with a clean slate. Thanks.

Great App.. I have been using this app now for about six months and I must say that I am very pleased with the way that it works. It has saved my back side more than once and especially, now that you can record phone conversations. One of the othe great features that I like is that I can press record put my iPhone in snoze mode it will keep recording, then I can come back and listen to everything that was said. Plus I can transfer everything over to my main computer and arcive it on my harddrive. This is a nice app.

Great interface and functionality, poor voice quality. The functionality and interface of this app is great, unfortunately if you care about voice quality, it's not too good. The sound comes across scratchy and slightly muffeled. I compared it against VoiceNotes and another Recorder and the voice quality for those are much better. I like the interface and email capability of this Recorder app much better so hopefully they will find a way to improve the voice quality, but maybe it takes up less memory to record and email a lower quality recording. So get this app for the ease of use, interface and functionality or get the others for voice quality.

Almost love it.... I really like this app. I have been using it to record lectures and the quality is almost as good as my friend's recorder which he purchased for $100. My one problem is that if someone calls my phone while I am recording the app stops working. The recording is saved up until that point and I can see and listen to it from the phone. When I go to sync with wifi the recordings which were interrupted by phone calls are missing from that list. This is a major pain. If this problem could be fixed the app would be perfect. It is very useful and convientient. Definitely worth purchasing.

Does What I Expected (But). Great App & Price but i have a few sugesttions - change the record button to Green leave the stop button as Red and add a Orange pause button. It needs more volume when recording when played back through the iPhones ear peice the volumes seems a bit low but using phones does allow you to increase the volume and isolate the played back recording from back ground noise, also how about the ability too change the recording file format and compression. Other than that good app looking forward to future updates.

Very helpful - used to "remind" someone of a commitment. Extremely easy and convenient to use! We had a client denying a commitment he made in a voicemail on our office phone line and we were able to quickly snap a recording of his voice and remind him over email. He quickly confessed and it prevented us from having to take legal action. Hard to deny something when you can hear your own voice! I definitely recommend this fantastic app!

BEST recording app. Great recording app! Stunning quality from any iDevice, and the recordings transfer over the AMAZING WiFi Sync at blazing speeds. 120mb recording of a meeting zipped over in less than a minute, plus no need to get a cable and sync the ENTIRE ipod. Great app, and would love some updates to allow us to upload to DropBox, and since most recordings are too big to e-mail, a way to downsample the audio quality to email!

To all bands!. Okay I use this for my band, the Sibling, all the time when we want to record something we've made, u may not be able to adjust the mic input level but we always have someone take the iPod farther away from where were playing until the input is correct then record from that spot, it works really well. Especially when I want to record individual guitar riffs when I'm by myself, it helps me so much with music!

Very happy, tried half dozen others, this one is the best.. I've tried several others, while they may seem as good for short recordings, the proof is in something over 5 minutes. This app had the best syncing ablility. You might want to change the audio quality in the settings, I didn't like the preset option, though I'm sure it's fine for simple things, but I'm recording stories for children and I wanted better sound.

Very nice!. I've tested this extensively and the ability to email voice messages that can be heard on another iPhone just rocks! Very nice way to say hi to someone from a bunch of folks, yet not have to disturb them until they're ready. Gripes? I want a "Record Pause" button, plus the ability to rewind a recording and then start recording something over the rest of it (poor man's audio editor) but neither of these things should be hard for them to fix.

AMAZING CUSTOMER SUPPORT. I'm a journalist, so recorded calls are the lifeblood of my work. Recorder downloaded a corrupt version of one of my phone calls, and nearly ruined my story. So I reached out to customer service, who fixed the original file and sent it to me. I was helped by someone in Customer Service named Rebekah. With a simple email, she saved my story! (And possibly my job.) Very happy with the service. The software is hit and miss, but the service is A+ Please support Recorder for iPhone. I've used everything from Google Voice to Free Conference Call; Recorder is hands down the best I've found thus far. Cheers!

Retronyms Loses Recordings. The amount of problems with this app are astounding. It doesn't record. It doesn't play back. Their tech support is sloooow and don't know how to fix anything. There are too many glitches for them to keep up with. When Retronyms upgraded to their newer version, they LOST two very important recordings I needed. Apparently, someone paying you by the minute for backup storage on recordings doesn't mean that it's a priority to actually store the recordings. They have no phone number available for tech support, so I had to wait for emails from a very nice and well-meaning customer service rep…who couldn't do squat because the engineer was sloooooow at getting back to her. When he supposedly "fixed" the problem, it wasn't actually fixed. As it stands, I'm now sitting on an article I was supposed to turn in 5 days ago. I had to explain to my editor that I missed my deadline because I bought an app where I pay by the minute for recording and storage, but they magically deleted the recording off of my phone, and it took them 5 days to "fix" something in a way that didn't fix anything, and so the waiting game continues.

Sooo close to perfection. I LOVE the ease of this app. Was at a Radiohead concert this week, pulled it out, 2 taps and I caught one of the most chill inspiring moments I've heard in a while. Plugged it into my car and was able to listen on the ride home. That alone is worth a buck. Emailed it to myself instantly and was able to download the file with Quicktime Pro. With one update this could be perfect. I'd like to change the default title of the recordings from something other than Memo. (for some reason that bugs me). Also switching between memos on the phone is a bit flakey. Besides that? Buy it. SO quick and easy and great to use.

Not very good.. I had great expectations for this app, but it was not to be. The app lets supposedly lets you record calls either by using the keypad or finding someone in your contacts. The problem is that I could only dial 9 digits and it crashed every time. Tech support told me you can only make calls to people in your contact list. So, if you want to record a call, you first have to enter that number into your contact list. What a pain in the backside! Next problem. Wifi didn't work. Once you record a call you can either email to your computer (very slow process) or wifi it, which is much faster. The problem is that once you transfer the file via wifi, the program directs you to a specific URL to hear it. Every time I tried I tried I got a error message that the system or server wasn't working. So, the only way I could save files was either email or on the phone. Finally, the recording quality was not very good. Good premise; poor delivery.

My favorite, most useful app. I am a journalist and I use Recorder from Retronyms to record interviews. No matter where I go, from a noisy press conference to an intimate 1-on-1 interview, Recorder is the best tool I have to assist me. Customer support is responsive, too. I highly recommend this application for anyone who needs to record sound on the go. My only negative about this is if the phone rings, it interrupts the recording and there's no way to decline a call and let the recording continue.

Works Perfectly. For all your legal call recording, it works just fine. It informs the person who answers that the call is being recorded, but that's fine as long as you're not trying to illegally record phone calls. I find it mildly annoying that it runs about 3 cents a minute, but I use it for interviewing people over the phone for news stories, so I suppose it's worth the small expense.

Great Customer Support. I like to use this app, especially when I need to remember parts of a conversation. Overall I rate this app a 4 out of 5 stars, but upped my rating to 6 out of 5 stars because of their customer support! **Kudos** My new phone wasn't linking up with my purchased hours & I contacted help support. The customer service response was swift--within hours--by a real person. Not only this, but she relayed my comment, which turned around and was worked on, and my hours were linked to my account before the end of the day. FABULOUS! ***************** After reading many of the people's reviews I'd like to include a helpful hint: Go into the settings and turn off the recording notification. Some companies auto answer won't connect your call, so on your end it seems as if the call is just pending. Best wishes!

Incredibly useful. This is a wonderful app. All it needs to earn 5 stars is the ability to pause recordings and the option to email a recording as an attachment, instead of as a link to a download. Great recording quality; very long recording time; and the new wi-fi sync function makes transferring recordings to a computer a breeze. It's a pity iPhone restrictions prevent it from being able to record phone calls or grab voicemails for posterity.

So Much Love. What a fantastic application Recorder is. This is everything I wanted in the “missing” application from the original application available with the iPhone. My Razr used to be able to voice record and I was hooked. I never could make many though due to memory size. Recorder gives me the best of both worlds. Now I can voice record to my heart’s content because the cavernous memory size of the iPhone allows for tons of voice messages. Thanks!

Solid, Basic App. Sound quality is solid. Interface is simple, easy to use. The bar graph, however, is not very responsive. The meetings that I record often either do not register or barely register. Oddly, the voice is okay when I play it back using earphones, although some voices are weak. Maybe this is a problem with amplification in the iPhone or how the software handles the microphone signal. Also, the logo, like many of the recorders, looks clumsy but obviously doesn't effect usability.

Can't go wrong for $1. I read many "recorder" reviews and this seemed to be the most full featured of all. My only complaint is even on high quality mode, the sound quality isn't the greatest, but this could also have something to do with the mic. The ability to "send" a file and retrieve a file over Wifi is a great idea and works exactly as advertised! Highly recommended.

love this application. I finally went to the web site, watched the little how to vid and wifi transferred my recordings (lectures, my kids performance) that I wanted and needed; super easy, worked as stated and I now feel safe they are backed up and I can listen to them anytime and move off the ones I don't need all the time. A couple of my lectures were over 2 hours, they sound great even from a few rows back, thank you for something useful, easy and works.

Great for journalists. I desperately needed a phone recording app for my iPhone. I do a few phone interviews on the go, and this app not only filled the gap, it may have taken over as my number 1 way to record interviews! Couple of tips - keep the app settings at high quality. This keeps the audio usable for podcasts. Wifi sync didn't work with firefox, but did with Chrome for sone reason. Sync will record in aiff format, easily compatible with windows. Price per recording hour is a little steep ($1.99) but worth it.

great little app. At the risk of complicating a nice little app with a simple user interface..... I'd like to be able to append to an existing recording so, if you went into the recording you could select a Play button which would take you to the beginning of the recording or a Continue Recording button that would take you to the end and continue recording. The use-case would be grocery list where you keep remembering things you want to pick up while on the way to the store but don't want a separate recording for each item. BTW, I preferred the original green icon :(

Simple, easy UI. So-so audio quality.. I first nabbed this app when it was free. It worked well, but I realized there wasn't a way to transfer the recordings to my computer; thus, I lost quite a number of great clips after the update. The audio quality is decent only and there isn't a way to change the bitrate or anything like that. After looking around the app store for something better, I came across YouNote and found it far superior. Its choice of audio quality through the mic is very high and best of all, it's free. Hope this review helps!

Better than Apple. I've had this app since the beginning - it's much better than the one that Apple puts out (the Apple's start/stop button is too small and gives poor feedback when you hit it). I would recommend this over the other recording applications out there. My only two gripes are: (1) it takes too long to load and (2) after you hit the record button there is a long delay before the sound bars showing recording in progress pop up... this leaves you wondering if it started recording right after you hit the start button (or if you should wait a moment before speaking).

Good Before... GREAT NOW!. This is, by far, the BEST dollar I have ever spent! I am in radio and now will be able to record short actualities or feature snippets, then e-mail them for editing and broadcast. They have managed to get surprisingly good quality from a little phone mic. It's easy to record, preview, rename, and E-MAIL the .aiff file. This is the kind of apps I imagined getting from the App Store. Professionally made and reasonably priced!

Export to ITunes? Possible!. Found a way to export to ITunes. Not easy, but with the help of the guys at the Genius Bar in my area, we all got Recorder to export the file that I needed. Turns out that the back of the IPhone cradle has a mini output. If you connect the mini output to the microphone input on a laptop, or computer, and turn on Garage Band, then in the "Preference" menu, choose Midi input. Hit record in GB, and play in Recorder. Then to export, go to the "Share" menu which exports and creates a .m4a file that will open in ITunes. Hope that helps people who want their long recordings as files that they can share.
