No enough books. I'm not happy

Great app would like a feature added. Great app for tracking the books you’ve read and want to read. It would be great if you could change your goal from a minutes goal to a pages goal. Would love to see that feature in a future update! Thank you!

Updated Review 26 December 2023. I’ve been using Basmo for two years. There have been additions and updates that are excellent. I wanted to have a way to pause a session and now have that ability. There are a few more reactions, and if none of them fit how I feel, I write a note. The AI feature is great. It never gives spoilers but does answer specific questions. I don’t use it for every book; I use it when something I’m thinking is important to understand the storyline. I ask a specific question: when reading One Hundred Years of Solitude, I asked who was the main character. The explanation that there was no one main character gave nothing away but helped me understand the narrative flow. I loved that book and had tried reading it as least five times in the past. Initially, I had some problems, but after posting a disappointed review, the owner contacted me. There was some confusion on both sides, and he helped me get it straightened out. The one recommendation I made - having the ability to pause a session - is something they are working on. I’m enjoying it and glad I signed up. There could be more emoji feelings such as confused, disturbed, satisfied, excited - because awesome, happy, and sad are rather limiting.

A required reading contract?. I just downloaded this, and that it sets up a required contract with yourself is such a turnoff. I enjoy reading. Having a forced contract make this feels like a formal chore that’s based on quantity rather than quality, and it takes the enjoyment out of just reading. I don’t need a contract; I just want to track my reading, write notes about books, and keep a to-read list. Good heavens, why make it a chore to do?

Overall an okay app. So far I have really enjoyed using this app. It is a fun and easy way to track your reading and gives you different statistics. My only complaint is the note taking section. I have often had to go back through the notes I took and re-edit the formatting because it never saves. For example, I am constantly fixing the highlighted part of one of my notes. The is only two lines in the passage I saved from the book that I want highlighted but every time I open my notes the whole passage is highlighted. Another example is the bold text feature. I use bold text for quotes from the book and regular text for my personal notes. I often have to go and reselect lines and change them back to bold because the bold text will only save for half of what I wrote.

😩. Not user friendly and confusing. It’s needs an accompanying tutorial.

Free is not free, missleading. I couldn’t even start the app without being forced to “try” the premium service. Users should have to sign up and then opt out of a trial to get free content.

Javon. This is a very nice app to help me read on a daily basis and help me become healthier because before reading books a day, I would usually play video games now I’m always walking and reading in this app also stimulate the brain helping you create habits for the day!

Will rate higher if. This year I started listening to Audio books this month and the timer doesn’t do more than 10 hours. Some of my audio books are up to 24hrs, I want to be able to accurately track. If it’s updated to add as many hours as needed this rating will change to a 5 star.

TMI. If you want a simple way to use app to track your reading this is not it. I gave up before it asked for the Middle names of my Great Grand parents. I just wanted to see what the app could do for me and it was way too nosey about my life.

Glitch. I’m really excited to use this app. But when I was signing in and answering the questions, it wouldn’t let me continue on one of the questions. It was the question on how I feel about reading with the emojis. I selected my response and there was no button to continue or anything. I tried deleting and reinstalling but it still didn’t work. I also tried reporting the problem on the website but it wouldn’t let me. Idk if I’m doing something wrong or if it’s just a glitch🤷‍♀️Idk I’m hoping I can get this fixed so I can use the app

Not user friendly. All it does is pester you to subscribe. It’s not user friendly. I’ve tried multiple times to use the kindle sync button, but it just keeps re-adding a book I’ve finished as if it’s a current book. It won’t import any of my other kindle books. Why would I pay for a subscription for an app that’s janky & doesn’t do what I want or need?!

Blatant copy. I was excited to try this app, but it turned out to be just a worst copy of another book tracker i’m using. Don’t waste your time with this one.

Paying member and have not been able to use the app. I have subscribed to a membership and have been unable to open the app for the last two days because it just crashes immediately

No instructions. Can't make it read. Does it even do that? I will subscribe of items will read kindle books. Cancel if it won't other I don't get instructions.

Dishonest bait and switch. I didn’t do a free trial and for a whole week the sessions were still unlimited. Now it’s requiring me to do a free trial and pay for a month to have what I had for entirely free a week ago. What a dishonest bait and switch. Very disappointing. Why do I have to give you money for unlimited sessions? Very lame.

I had high hopes :(. I really liked the premise of this app!! As someone who loves a good tracking app AND reading this was my cup of tea. But the amount of stuff you can do without upgrading to premium is close to none. And paying close to 100$ a year for an app? Absolutely not. Everything in the app revolves around the fact that you haven’t signed up for premium and it’s disappointing. Giving it 2 stars because it could be really good! If it was free for all that is.

I enjoy it. I really lied Basmo it is encouraging me to read but I wish it was easier to navigate at some points and how to figure out how to read but not finish the book that might be a me problem tho. Anyway I love it I like how you can review and overall it is a good app.

Great Reading Coach!. The developers really thought about the design. The encouragement from the timer to list and notes are really cool features that integrate nicely together. The beta chat ai is a great start and can’t wait to see where they take this! Long term improvements may be chatting bot with your notes or export notes good reads integration would be cool too. I would recommend to anyone who loves apps and loves to read. I say bravo 👏🎉

Tied to tracker which is annoying.. I read and finished my book without using the tracker every time and now I can’t move it to finished unless I “run the tracker” to trick it into believing that I finished it. I would like to be able to click a button to mark a book as finished.

Great!. Great!

Have to pay. There’s no longer a free version just today I went to start reading my book and it won’t allow me to put in any time or adjust anything with my book without paying 7.99 EIGHT DOLLARS for me to track my book time and pages what a joke how ridiculous I really loved this app but it seems like now they’re just trying to get a quick cash grab out of everyone screams capitalism for sure

SMH 0 stars. The app asks me if I want to sign up for premium I say no then it’s like we get it that’s a big commitment it then asks me a couple of questions and won’t let me move forward it has a screen telling me to upgrade to premium.

Glitches. New to Basmo. It never gave me the free trial. Had I known I would have perhaps waited. I find the app to be very glitchy from syncing to Kindle (keeps adding books over and over - had to turn the feature off), it also does not save a lot of information added manually (such as adding where book was borrowed from or who lent it out to). I had high hopes.

Not Just to Track Reading! Homeschooler goodness!. I have been using Basmo for over a year and a half for personal reader tracking, and the stats are fun to review. Note taking while reading more intense literature is super helpful. But with the new ability the “chat” with your book using AI, I discovered another great use: Homeschooling book report assistance. The chat suggests some very well thought out questions that could easily be used for kids book report and comprehension questions, so while parents have skimmed the book, they can have brief and accurate chats with a wide range of books to find deeper meanings and little details that might have been missed. I am pretty excited to make use of this feature in the future.

Stuck in a loop. Hi, I’ve tried to find a way to contact you on your website and I can’t find it. I recently purchased the yearly plan but now I’m stuck in an infinite loop of do you want to read more? What is your name? It loops back again and again despite deleting and redownloading the app. The app has no functionality and I can’t escape the loop. Are there any fixes for this?

Review. This app seem to be really great, and it motivated me to want to keep reading. But after seven days you have to pay for it, which I think was not the best so I deleted the app and found something else. there’s also portions of the app that you have to pay for as a membership which I thought when I download the app that I could not use but then it required me to pay to keep track of my reading after a week.

This is crap. I didn’t even get to use the app or test it out before they ask for my money. I wanted this app to help me remember want I read and get me to my reading goal. I thought this app would help me but they really just want my money!!! I don’t recommend!

Adds to what I am already doing. I am already going to read, so why not be able to track and catalog my favorite parts while doing it. I wish more people use this and knew about it.

Great Concept. Kindle integration makes it

Unable to unsubscribe. I’ve tried multiple ways to unsubscribe from this app and nothing looks like it worked.

Many glitches. Says you can share with friends. Sent the link back and forth and it took us no where. Very basic. Not a lot of books on the app. Have to add them all manually.

Perfect. I love this app.

Love this app!. I’m a total bookworm but tracking my reading and my progress on books can get annoying. Personally this app is very helpful. I love that I could also write my thoughts on what I read in that moment. Although I do wish I could pause the timer so I don’t have to restart every time I have to use the bathroom or get a snack. Besides that it’s a great app, would recommend for other bookworms.

Keep Looking. I tested this app out for the last 2.5 months and my final thoughts are: keep looking. It does all 3 basics fairly well: timing your reads, organizing your journal entries, and showing you some basic stats (how many pages per hour page you’re reading at, how long was your longest reading session, etc.). It has several annoying flaws that ultimately just killed it for me, not to mention the pricey subscription fee for what you’re really getting. 1) It rounds up your reading times!! It does not save down to the last minute and second you actually read, but will round to the nearest whole number and on occasion, the nearest even number. 2) The pause feature was so nice until I realized if you pause it for over ten minutes then end your reading session, it sometimes adds the entire pause time to your reading time! Hope you remembered what your actual reading time was before you paused! 2.a. You can’t pause the timer when you add journal entries or record quotes. So it counts it towards your reading speed. 2.b. Your projected reading time for a book per day until the target finish date fluctuates based on your last reading speed recorded. 3) The app will push you to post your stats or a quote on social media until the end of time. No way to turn this off. I paid the 20 bucks for the app to use for myself, AS ADVERTISED TO ME, not so I could constantly advertise it on social media for the app developers can make more money off me. 3.a. The integration to other platforms is non-existent besides being able to post things on popular social media platforms like insta and Facebook. Why is this app so expensive?? 4) Lastly, the constantly glitching stat features. They don’t update consistently, some of the stat page features crash the app, and they are weird stats that compare your reading to other people. I really don’t know what adds other people saw for this app, but the ones targeted to me gave me the impression this app was for individual use and reading growth.

Have not had this app for to long. Have not had this app for to long but it’s yelling at me to read so far I love this 😅

Chatbot hallucinating. The chatbot is still pretty rough. On two books, it discussed characters and themes not in the book. It worked on others. Kind of hit or miss. It’s an interesting feature and am looking forward to some of the kinks being worked out. I love the basic tracking interface. Much more elegant UI than others I’ve tried.

Awesomeness. This is awesome but shouldn’t have to get premium to see your reading stats

Only has subscription. There’s no free version. All I want to do is track my reading without the tacky, extra stuff. I can do it on my own on paper.

It’s good!. I love the app! Two things: 1. Make it visible of how many pages I need to read daily to finish my book by my finish goal. 2. Add a rating system to books we finish to rate how much we liked the book and what elements we liked about it.

Meh. Pretty much overpriced for what it can do. Which is not much more than what I could do in the free notes app on my iPhone

Reader’s Best Friend. As an Business Owner & avid reader, the developers of this app have done an amazing job not only creating such a well-crafted app that excels at recording novel progression, but also staying consistent with enhancing that experience through meticulous updates. With a user-friendly interface and useful features (ie. Picture-to-Text Conversions, Notes, & Goal-setting), Basmo can really assist occasional readers with turning it into a hobby. Having notes maintained within each book, even after completion, is GREAT for those who also enjoy writing Book Reports associated with their previous reads. It also serves as a lifesaving-feature for when you want a refresher about what was discussed throughout a book should you refer to it in the future. Overall, this app targets casual & professional readers alike, as well as conscientious individuals who necessitate the need for organization. Such a product, even with a Subscription, should be on everyone’s Dashboard.

Not good. They want you to pay 60/year for a diary app basically. You don’t even get to read anything. They force you to pay as soon as they can. Waste.

Don’t download. App lures you in, and eventually it’s forces you to buy subscription to use the minimal features, what a joke of an app

No Free Version. Disappointed with the free version of the app, which is essentially nonexistent. The app prompts you to pay for a plan, but allows you to continue using their supposedly free version. I was enjoying the “free” features, but after a few days of use, I wasn’t even allowed to start a reading session. This is a shame, as I’ve taken extensive notes on vocabulary and passages within the app which are now essentially useless considering I won’t be continuing to use it.

Updated review. I’m updating this review as the developer has changed the daily limit and allowed unlimited reading sessions back on Basmo. I truly appreciate the understanding in my previous review as limiting reading sessions would lessen the amount people read. Thank you

Room for Improvement. I really enjoy using this app, and it does what it promises, makes me read soooo much more. That being said there is a lot of room for improvement. This is small but the "reader roadmap" goal bar refuses to disappear even when I have completed the final step of designing and sharing a quote upwards of 10x..the bar will not go away. As someone with OCD this irritates me a lot, and for an app you pay for, there shouldn't be a glitch like that. A BIG area of improvement is the stats section!!!! If I'm paying to see stats, I better be able to see stats other than my week to week stats...WITH ZERO HISTORY. As I reader, I want to be able to see how many pages I've read this month, this year, this quarter. Actually truly track what I'm doing. Week to week serves me no benefit if I can't remember my page speed or pages read from the previous day. (Yes, everyday stats are different because it's not M-S stats..it's Tues-Tues, Wed-Wed..you get the picture). I should also be able to get full stats on books that I am reading. If I read a book, I should see how many hours TOTAL i spent reading, and my average mood for the book, pages read, sped of reading etc, instead it merely tells me my stats for reading the book for the week i completed it in. These improvements alone is enough to keep me from renewing premium as I'm not actually getting any true data that I can't get on my own by timing & tracking myself without hassle. **Updating review due to developer response & improvements

Love the app wish there was a little more. I love this app and it’s helped me to track where I can see how long I’m taking to read a book or how much I should read to finish a book on a certain date. I do wish there was a way I can use my Apple Watch to start the timer and put how many pages I’ve read. I really like using this app especially with the ai that I sometimes use when reading philosophy books and I’m confused what I just read. Bookly was an app I’ve considered over this one due to the Apple Watch feature but I just can’t part with the ai and simpleness of using.

There’s a Bug BUG. When I try to open the “Goals” section of the app it crashes and the app closes. 🤦🏽‍♂️ It’s so annoying, the first few hours of use were fine, but now it just doesn’t work, such an expensive app just to not work 🤦🏽‍♂️ FIX IT or I’ll ask for a refund.

Major glitch- not worth it. The app is entirely too expensive for what it is- feels like a huge ripoff. Currently, the main page, which tells you how many minutes to read daily to hit your annual goals, does not work. No matter what time of year it is, the minutes read calculation estimates how much you would need to read daily to reach your current goal IF you started on Jan first. This is the primary reason I purchased the app, to have a better way to track my annual reading goals. I reached out to the developers and they don’t seemed too concerned about the issue. Unless there is a major update to this app, it’s simply not sophisticated enough to do what it claims.

All over the place. Nothing intuitive about flow or logic of use, Messages provide little or no guidance - in fact some hinder efforts, Tries to sell me a book I’m already reading, Won’t allow me to be reading two books at the same time, ...

???. It doesn’t let me set a goal for 2021 and when I click on the goals tab the app crashes. And I have no clue what the in-app purchases are.

Love the concept. I love the concept to be able to track, but I don’t like that you cannot add books that were tread in previous years to be able to compare.

Don’t want to upgrade to pro. After having this app for about a month (the free version) it stopped letting my add books and make changes to the book I am readying and books I want to read. When I try and do this, a page comes up asking if I want to upgrade to pro. I am not interested in pro at this time and it’s not letting me use it without upgrading. Is there not a free version? Help.

Upgraded to pro. I upgraded to the pro version but now every time I end a reading session or finish a book I receive an annoying notification to share my progress or reading goals. Super annoying that there is no setting to turn that notification off.

In LOVE 🫶. I’m honestly really in love with this app. It really has everything I can think of when I want to have a steady reading schedule and love how I can input all my ideas and thinking into this app. There’s such a wide variety of things to discover! I really wish I found this sooner and I hope you guys get more downloads in the future! Love this 🫶🫶

i don’t want to upgrade to pro!!!. everytime i try to start a new session, i get a message asking if i want to upgrade to pro. no matter how many times i try clicking the x or pressing “maybe later”, i’m not able to add any books, or start a new session.

Good app but not working. So I actually love this app, I use it almost everyday to sort and organize what books I have read / want to read. But for a while now every time I open the app it makes me go through the whole “build a personal plan” thing. It’s incredibly annoying to have to go through this ever time I open it and makes me want to delete the app and find a new one. Please fix this

Love it!. I actually decided to download this app because I was reading how the developers responded to the reviews on here. I appreciate their kindness, understanding and passion. I wanted to support them solely for that reason. After downloading the app though, I was surprised anyone has given this less than a 4 star. There’s so much you can do with this app without a subscription. I think it’s unfortunate that someone would think they should be given more for free. Their hard work should be compensated and if they want to be able to provide a better experience I would think that would require additional funds as well. The cost is very reasonable and I plan to support them as soon as I’m able to. Such an underrated app! Great job to all those involved!

No free. I was really loving this app, I thoroughly enjoy that is keeps track of both my time per secession and my progress in each book. But on the 5th session it required me get subscribe for a week free or pay $12.99 a month

Love it! Just can’t invite people 🤷‍♀️. I’ve used this app for a few months now and have been obsessed with it. Easy it track my reading and gives me some encouragement to pick up a book! I was planning on inviting my friend so that we could read together but couldn’t seem to get the link through. When she pressed it, it sent her to the App Store and didn’t get to add me. I would love to track our reading together but can’t with this bug!! Plz fix it as soon as you can 🙏🏼🤍

Expensive. I liked the app however when the free trial was up it will cost $12.99/month…they give the option of a yearly subscription which is $99.99. I liked the app but not enough to spend that much on it.

I’d like to get my money back…. I only had this app for about five minutes before it seemed like more of a hassle than it’s worth. Don’t know if the developers can give me a refund since I barely used it, but I’d like one. The first book I’m reading I had to manually enter. Then another one. Then it wouldn’t let me read more than one book at a time (which I routinely do). Just clunky.

Needed this!. I've been wanting something like this forever... Focused on me as a reader and what my needs are. Can't wait to see what they're going to build into the app next! -grant

Great app. Great for really cheap. The development team was very helpful and polite. The app is very simple which I like very much.

Excellent helper. I don’t like to mark my book with highlighting so this app is perfect for this. I love the idea I can write notes every time I read a chapter And my favorite part is I can organize the books by folder. Love this

Best app for avid readers. Easily the best app for all bookworms!

Too expensive for what it offers. I was enjoying the simple features of this app until I was suddenly told I could no longer use it without a $12.99 a month subscription. If you choose to not pay? You have to wait 6 and a half hours to log your reading again. For an app that promises to make you read more it’s pretty strange to force your users to wait to be allowed to read. For what? A glorified timer and a few stats? A basic notes app to write down thoughts about the book? Offer a subscription for no ads but why not allow free users to watch ads in exchange for reading sessions? The app itself is too simple and buggy to warrant an expensive subscription. I’ll just stick to goodreads, my own free phone timer, and a good old fashioned paper journal.

Easy and convenient. I love this app! It makes tracking my reading fun and convenient. I love the goal setting feature too!

LOVE IT. I love this app. I subscribed to it monthly after my free trial but it keeps telling me I need to subscribe to use all the features even though I’m subscribed. It’s so frustrating :(

useless without premium. without premium this app is pretty useless. no one should have to pay for one of the main things the app is supposed to do like scan pages , or continue reading.love this app with premium though . there's no point in the app being free if you have to pay for most of the good features .

BEST APP. Love this app so much brings me joy to read another book

more options. i wish there was more options for what emotions i felt durning reading.

🤷🏻‍♀️. can't get past the intro screen with the feels emoji

It’s cool but I NEED AN IPAD VERSION. This app is nice but I feel very limited in the way I can express my thoughts on the phone. If they made an iPad version of the app, I’d gladly sign up for a year subscription today!

Terrible tbh. This app is terrible every time I decided to end my session and put down what page I’m on it doesn’t put the correct page number and either makes my pages go down or won’t increase it

Love it but issues. Accidentally just typed that I read more pages than were in the book. It said i finished the book. Went back to edit it to the number of pages I actually read and it still says I finished the book and won’t let me continue reading.

Amazing. Great app!!

I do not recommend.. Unprofessional.

Kinda confusing. They select the book you have to read but they don’t show it or anything. It’s just a timer and a place to take notes. Once you create a profile you can log on iPad but it’s pretty tricky to navigate and it’s not really seamless from mobile to iPad. Although I have to say the concept is great it’s just not very user friendly. Maybe with updates 🤞🏽

BE CAREFUL - got charged $59.99. This is a real scammy. Signed me up for a 7 day free trial and then added me to their YEARLY $59.99 plan after those 7 days! WHAT??? I did NOT sign up for that. Completely unacceptable!

They offered the first year for 19.99 I got charged 34.99. Plus tax.

Great app for analytical book readers. I really enjoy this app for tracking and seeing starts. I could use some additional items though which probably will come with further developed...maybe. A pause button for reading sessions would be great. When adding a read book to the library I couldn’t adjust/add number of pages. Counts the book as read in the year but can’t adjust the details. Emojis for feelings is limited. Reading usually provokes more emotions than the few they have but it’s not super important.

Helpful tracking. This app has helped me keep track of where I’m at. With constantly being on the go I find it very helpful to track where I’m at. Highly recommend!

u have to pay to do pretty much everything. so it gives u reading goals but only lets u complete them every other day? basically any way i would be able to actually do anything(according to this app) is to pay for it like um ridiculous at least let me put my reading log for everyday instead of making me pay 12.99 for ONE MONTH. i would love this app otherwise which is why i gave it 3 stars.

Can’t use all the features I paid for. For some reason, scan page doesn’t work for me. The main reason I purchased this app was for the ability to take screenshots. A $60 price tag for Basmo is ridiculous. There are other similar apps that can do what Basmo does for cheaper and with more features. Premium price for a subpar app.

One of the better ones I have used.. I like this one a lot. It’s easy to use and I like how it’s set up. The library set up is easy to use and easy on the eyes.

Costly. Just wanted to give it a try but why pay this much for something Goodreads already does for free?

Can’t believe you’re expected to pay for this mess. The app isn’t very easy to navigate on your own. For an app meant to be analytical and help you track goals, it’s odd that you can only choose one goal per category. I also couldn’t find a way to customize goals. Their book library is also weirdly incomplete. When I went to add a book, they didn’t have it, but had the second book in the series. Storygraph is a much better app, and it’s free. Don’t waste your money on this mess.

Not working. It won’t let me add anymore books to my library I have one on there, I used to have three there is one now and I went to add one more and it said I needed to get a subscription why did you add that feature?

Looks Great. I was all in with App until it asked for my fingerprint. Why? My personal identifiers are not necessary and an overreach. It’s bad enough I have facial recognition from APPLE, but a fingerprint from a no-name application is a no-go for me. Sorry. I would’ve loved to try it.

It seems like a great app, but….. So I downloaded this app to help me with reading, but while doing the set up part of it, they asked me how reading made me feel with a selection of emojis to choose from. And when I chose the emoji, it didn’t do anything and just stayed on that page. I tried closing and reopening the app several times and clicking the page and reloading but it doesn’t seem to be working. I would really like to use this app, but I can’t figure out what’s wrong with the set up part of it.

Search Button. Please add a search option so I can search through the books I’ve read or own.

Amazing. I’m trying to read more and this app is everything I need for book tracking, note taking, and reminders to read. Such an amazing app!

Cheat code. This app is awesome

Worst App , Charges tons of money. I attempted to download and use this app. I select a small monthly fee for payment options. I read all info carefully. However, I was still charged the highest cost for this app at $117. In addition, when the free trial was over the app took me through the entire setup process again. All try to try and get money more money out of my pocket. The app did not aligned across my devices and failed to save any of my info. This app is a scam and they only want your money. I’m very disappointed.

Useless copy. I feel like I was conned out of money there is no difference btw this app and good reads.

So helpful!. This is a great app if you want to set and reach goals. I’m happy with my progress and I’m excited to plan our time to read more often!

Sucky. Sucky app they just want money didn’t help at all just delete

Books?. Where are the books to read? I thought this was a reading app, that’s why I paid
