5 stars isn’t enough!. Coming back to update my review, because this game is a hidden gem on the app store! There are NO ads ever! I’d give it 10 at least if I could! I absolutely LOVE this game! The mechanics, the art work…all of it is perfect! Easily worth supporting by purchases to expand to the full version. Thank you devs for a game that I have already spent HOURS playing! So looking forward to the many more hours of play and hopefully new lands! ❤️

Start’s off strong. End’s pretty weak.. Ok this game is worth getting. It’s fun and a good time waster. And the beginning is very fun to play. But the end is more of a chore than actually fun. Just the game runs into a problem of every enemy is on paper different. But in reality they are just the same. And I think an over all issue is the game relies on chance a bit too much. I beat the final boss of the game because I got lucky. I got a few extra critical hits. And maybe a few misses from the enemy. I love this game, but I wish the game had more late game content. This game is worth your time. It’s almost a masterpiece in my eyes. But has issues that I believe can be fixed. How? Idk. I have never made a game so I don’t know how hard it would be to fix the issues.

Unplayable on iPad Air 2. Let us take an example. If you go to Various Assortments (General Store) the items for sale appear at the bottom 2 percent of the screen, while 4/5 ths of the item icons are hidden. They cannot be interacted with and 98% of the screen has the picture of the store. This is true for other areas too. Also, the very tutorial is impossible to read after a point. The last three or four entries do not appear on the screen at all. You need to keep tapping to get to the general screen. Not sure if the issue is that the game cannot be played on landscape mode, which is the default for an iPad, or something else. Whatever it is, it is impossible to play this game so stay clear of it. It was a waste of money and will be asking for my money back.

A Delightful Way to Pass Time. A fun little solo toy that really feels like some old school role playing games. What you get if you randomly generate a Tunnels and Trolls adventure, but chock full of lore and a steadily-progressing and punishing difficulty. Not for the faint of heart! Take note that on my iPhone XR some of the UI formatting will sadly hide critical information but I feel confident the dev will address this issue soon. I found that putting the character set on RETRO solves the problem and the other font options don’t look as good, anyway. I like it! Would only be mildly improved by dungeon crawling variation - as it stands it still feels uncannily nerve-wracking without the hinderance of walls and routes (one eye on my food stores, sanity, and HP makes for enough tension!)

Love it. Throwback to classic old school text based rpgs, with simple visual aids that really add to the aesthetic. You’re not restricted to a certain class in this game and are free to use any gear you find, and learn any combination of spells and skills. I love the mechanic of exploring the dungeon on a grid, seeing the regions on a map, and having different shops in the town, instead of just clicking through a list of options as compared to other text based rpgs I’ve played.

Fun Dungeon Crawler. This is pretty much exactly what I like to play on my phone. A simple, fun dungeon crawler that can be pretty difficult. A lot of different gear, spells, and skills for a variety of character builds to help you play how you want. It’s a lot of fun, and it’s not filled with a ton of mircrotransactions. There’s only a few things to purchase with real money, and it’s a couple gear packs and the full game, which is only $5. Honestly, it’s a great deal. The game didn’t even mention buying anything for real money until I had been playing for a couple hours. Easily one of the best mobile games I have played.

This game is great. First off, I adore this game. I don’t leave to many reviews, but this is a great game and super addicting if you like text adventures. It’s not one of those games where you can’t find half the stuff you need, or you’re going to be stuck on something forever. With a little grinding you can find everything you need, it’s easy to understand and the interface is great and easy to understand It’s $5 for the full game, but I’ve been playing for a couple weeks and I’m no where near finished all the quests. Fully worth the download and buying the whole game.

Impressive mobile game. Simple but deep dungeon crawler, it reminded me of a flash game I once played but I quickly saw that there’s more to this game. It has a useful and well thought out crafting system, fantastic classless character building that truly lets you make whatever you want including a gunslinger, and a fantastic atmosphere throughout. This is a demo and you need to pay 5 dollars for the full game, however if you like the demo then the 5 dollars is completely worth it. All in all a fantastic game especially when traveling because you need no phone service to play it.

Lot of fun!. Ive played other games similar to this before, though I haven’t enjoyed any of them. For whatever reason, one I can’t place my finger on, this one is different. Grim Quest has a lot of cool and interesting mechanics like sanity and sieges, but not to many to overwhelm the player. The game takes a second to get used to, but once I got the handle of things I found I couldn’t stop playing. I will say, I wish there were more random events while exploring dungeons, since within just 10 minutes I was already getting the same event like three times. Still, this game is a lot of fun. Totally worth buying the full game if you have the money.

Areas that could be improved. Areas that could be improved: 1. There is a bug that immediately manifests itself upon opening the game. Whenever the tutorial system wants to highlight a part of the UI that needs scrolling to be visible. It “highlights” that area without actually scrolling there - resulting in an out-of-bound tutorial where the only thing a user can do is to tap to dismiss the tutorial without being able to read it. Moreover, the option to reset tutorials requires a new play through, making it impractical. 2. There is no way to see active status effects outside of combat. And in combat only a small set of status effects is visible through icons with no explanation.

Fun dungeon crawler. It’s a fun game, I haven’t felt over powered yet… kinda crossing my fingers for the awesome item that makes me super powerful but don’t think it will ever happen. It lists the best items possible for each class in the IAP page and they are all kind of ehhh so I don’t think I’ll ever walk around like a god. Tons of ways to play and tons of skill/ability/spell combos to try out I’m sure anyone can develop a character they like to play.

Surprisingly engaging. The game has rather simple graphics, but quite a bit of depth. Reminds me of something I might have played 30 years ago, but with the ease and convenience of playing on my tablet. The quality of life aspects of the game are way beyond what we had back then, though. I haven’t gotten in very far yet, but the game has a nice balance of being challenging while still being approachable. It’s nice to have a game I can play casually without being pestered by in app purchases and pay to win mechanics.

Long time player needing an update. So I’ve had this game on my phone for a Long time. I’ve “beat” the game but got cocky and actually ended up dying on Permadeath and didn’t play for awhile until now. I think it’s time for a nice fat update to get the old crowd back into it :) More things to buy, new special abilities, weapons, levels and bosses would be great! I’m a D&D fan and enjoy playing this simple yet strategic game. Super fun! Back to playing!

One Of My Top Favorites. I haven’t had the game on my phone for long but I had to buy it because I need more! In such a short time this game has become one of my favorites, it’s a simple game and even tho it’s got a few things I’m not use to for a simplistic RPG, I hope the developer makes more games like this. I like that you can adjust the game to your liking difficulty wise and that there is an option for music and game effect sounds as well! The only things I wish was different was the class choices and that the spell/skills had more than just 3 slots, especially because it’s a single character, and that items would stack in 5’s or 10’s. That and the event encounters, it’s like a 50/50 chance on either succeeding or failing, I wish there was something stat related, and that I wish stats mattered a bit more rather than having a single item raise the stats for a bit before you swap to something potentially better. I just purchased the game so I’m excited to explore more of what this story has to unfold. If this was your first game, I very much hope to see more from the developer!

TLDR: fun and addictive loop w/ no MICROTRANSACTIONS. Overall one of the best rpg games on mobile, hands down. Fun and addictive, the best part is that there are no stupid loot box microtransactions, no energy bar that stops you after a certain amount of actions for the day, and really the only in-app purchases is buying the full game after the first dungeons demo (basically). Highly recommend this game. And many thanks to the devs for an amazing and non-predatory/consumer friendly mobile game. This dev team and publisher are what the mobile game market should be

Fantastic text-turn based journey. Rare in an age of high graphics and interactivity, this game comes out with an old school survival feel. Solo player, you start off super weak, even on normal- the game praises clever synergies and strategies after you fail a few times. Do not recommend the permadeath mode unless you’re up for a real painful challenge. Game is free until you beat first dungeon boss- tbh for the quality the amount the dev’s asking is a steal. Hours of gameplay if you play your cards right. Happy Adventuring!

Seems like a pretty solid game.. This game lets you try out the first bit of it for free, which was nice, so I wasn’t pressured into purchasing without knowing whether it not I would like it. And it turns out I did like it. It’s pretty easy to learn, and has a unique way of playing that you don’t see in mobile games often. I am a guy who has played a lot of mobile games, some were good, and many weren’t. I am happy to say this game seems pretty good. And for those who are wondering, the full game costs $4.00, which is pretty cheap for a good game like this. There is one sentence I would use to describe how good this price is. Like a Marvel villain named Thanos would say, “ A small price to pay for salvation”. So anyone who is skeptical, you can try this game out without having to pay anything up front, and if you decide you like it, then all you have to pay is $4.00, which is a steal for a hidden gem like this. (: Edit: Close to finishing the game, and I got an item called Roland’s Revolver! This is a really cool Easter egg item(Stephen King Dark Tower book reference)

Rarely give five star ratings. Text-based interactive reading games is normally my thing with similar games designed like DND dragging behind poorly with the exception of this game making it stand out! Without ruining anything I just want to say that the small details that matter are impressive that other developers annoyingly overlook or disregard such as changing the style of text that you’ll be reading : ) and how your damage is dealt when attacking two enemies at once with a single strike if chosen... Secondly one of the top things I look for in a game is a active community and developer, they have a active discord channel so with no complaints thus far, or relevant suggestions I have to give this game a 5/5.

It’s just how you want the game to be. I have been trying to find a game like this for a while but for some reason none of them lived up to my high standards I apparently had and never knew about. I am so addicted I actually kept playing the start of the game over and over until I could buy the whole game since I never use my card, much less for an app. They definitely proved their worth to me at least. Thanks for a very fun game!

Games like these are way to hard to come by!. Amazing… I feel like I’m 10 in the 80s. Old school text RPGs are so hard to come by nowadays (at least really good ones!) I love playing on the go, at work or just while sitting around relaxing. The art is simple but great , the sound/music fits perfectly and makes me feel at ease in an eerie kind of way, the gameplay is fun and engaging for a text Adventure! The story/lore is the most important part of all and… it’s safe to say the team nailed that as well! Amazing game and I can’t wait to keep playing!

Blew my expectations away. I’ve played a good amount of text-based and turn-based mobile RPGs - I usually get them to entertain me for a while, get bored or hit a paywall, and then delete them. I downloaded this game thinking it was just one more of those - I was wrong. The developers clearly cared deeply about this game while creating it - the artwork, well-written descriptions/story, and dangerous dungeon delving gives me a lot of the same feelings I got from playing Darkest Dungeon - on a mobile game no less! Truly a great game, and 100% worth the 4 dollars for the full experience. If you’re not sure, play the intro quest, probably about an hour and a half of content is available for free.

Voice-Over Friendly!!! - cont. Most of the game is Voice-Over friendly, but the tiles in the dungeon are not labeled, but the player and entrance door us labeled. All of the status icons for gold, and supplies, are not labeled. However, health, sanity, and your level are all labeled and numbered correctly. Your inventory and gold amount are not labeled. Voice-Over just passes over these like I have no gold (I have 381 gold) and there is nothing in my inventory (though I currently have 1 gunpowder, 1 mutagen, 1 gold ring, 1 mouldy bread, as well as 1 orb of all-seeing and a gold necklace in my inventory.) (when tapped (double tapped with Voice-Over on), the item name, description, and buttons (such as drop/use) are accessible. Still, thank you so much for making the game accessible!

Worth the time and money. I don’t know quite what to say, but I’m sure going to try. Grim Quest was one of my favorite games. It has hours of immersive gameplay, a free demo of the first act, and a lack of annoying and costly micro transactions. The music really makes me feel like I’m in a dungeon full of monsters and worse, which really adds to the feeling of the game. I must warn you though that the game has a LOT of repetitive dungeon crawling which may not be fun for everyone, but if that’s what you want in a game this one is definitely worth the five bucks. Thank you for your time.

More than I expected. I have to say, I downloaded this expecting to just have a game to play for a few days. After getting through the first chapter when you have to pay to unlock the full game, I figured it was worth it because I’ve been enjoying up until that point. Now I’m a bit past it and feel like this is one of the best, if not the best mobile game I’ve played. It’s so fun to have a rpg style game to play while I’m on break for work or just when I have some free time. I decided to go all out and buy the manifestation cube to play around and can say everything I’ve spent is absolutely worth it. If you don’t feel like spending anything more than unlocking the full game, it’s 100% possible and still fun either way. Great game!

If you love old school you’ll love this game!. I started playing RPG games in the 1970s and have played pretty much every major rpg game out there over the past 45 years. Our dungeons plotted like this game does. I want both action and puzzles. On the other hand, I am no longer able to play using a controller. I don’t always want to play with others. I *really* don’t want to be goaded into pay for play. Grim Quest is fun, quiet and would unquestionably be a great choice to introduce new or younger players into the realm of video rpg. Finally, it’s easy on your wallet and offers a lot of play time!

A reliably good time. Let’s just get the elephant out into the room, this game costs 6 usd to play in its entirety; there are in-app purchases, but I haven’t been locked out of the game based on how far into my wallet I’m willingly to reach, and for what it delivers 6 usd for the game is worthwhile. There’s roughly a dozen dungeons, and while I haven’t played all of them, they vary in length from approx 1-2 hours each. There’s a nice variety of character skills, weapons, magic, etc., nothing that anyone hasn’t seen before, but enough is there to encourage a replay or two. All in all, my only complaint regarding the game is that some encounters can feel completely unpredictable. A trio of enemies you absolutely demolish in completely dire straights will suddenly eat you alive on a fresh run. This doesn’t happen often, but when it does it feels makes stats feel almost negligent. Other than that, there’s a lot the game offers; for six bucks I’ll get dozens of hours, as opposed to in game currency that maybe lasts me half an hour in another AppStore game, and that alone justifies the cost to me.

Fantastic. Exactly what you would want from a text based adventure game. Nothing too crazy but enough to keep you engaged and promote theory crafting. There’s also no predatory in app purchases and because of that it makes me want to spend money on the game. To buy the game is like 3 bucks and I mean I’ve already spent 2 hours playing, and im only on the first dungeon. Defintiely money well spent. I will continue to support the developers, because this game is definitely made out of love. And I appreciate that.

Well developed, aesthetically pleasing, quick to pick up. Can’t believe this started as a weekend hobby, and could easily put triple-A games to shame. A modern take on the dungeon crawlers of old, where it’s just forgiving enough that even when you fail the dungeon and expend those hard earned items, you never fall too far behind to bounce back, as you can easily switch up your play style to meet each new challenge. Excellent game!

Doesn’t load. I really wanted to try (and like) this game, but when I open it it get the message from the developer and after closing that, it just hangs out on a loading screen and nothing ever loads. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of times, with no change. I also tried Grim Tides, and while that game does load and I can start playing, it very quickly becomes the wrong size for my screen and I can’t really read or navigate anything and git frustrated when I could only tap between two screens that told me nothing helpful. An interesting concept and (from the little I could see) nice visuals, so I might come back in awhile to see if there have been bug fixes that make either of these playable.

What a hidden gem. This is a great game that I have had a lot of fun with over time. In the beginning, exploring is a very dangerous undertaking, and you will likely die a few times. As you get stronger/amass more money to upgrade your self/town, you’ll really feel the effects and see the difference as you mow through enemies. Elite/boss type monsters still give a feeling of difficulty and danger, but normal encounters make you feel like a powerful seasoned fighter. Gameplay gets a little repetitive, as you need to grind dungeons deeper and deeper to continue the story, but that’s part of a dungeon delver/looting system (which many obviously enjoy). The dark theme/style of the game is fun, though I would also like if there were some more theme changes between the different dungeon settings. I’m closing in on the end of the “main” game, and will be getting into the late/end game dungeons soon. Overall, I really enjoy this game, and I decided to write this review when looking to see if this developer had any other/new games.

This is a very good game. It is balanced and forces you to evaluate decisions. It is also brutal when you make mistakes and you know when you are making a mistake. For example….My life was about 20 but i had rations to continue exploring… i decided that a third of my life should be enough to stumble upon some heals. I am greedy bastard….. But i heard a voice in the back of my head say “ dude… the exit is 2 tiles away. Take the loss of 30 gold and make 90”. I ignored the voice and went for it. 4 tiles later, i have 5 health and am frantically making a beeline for the door and praying for an opportunity to lose 30 gold and survive the dungeon. I manage to get to an adjacent tile from paid exit and BAM… ambush ( i am smart and explored around the exit earlier….) i fail to run and am knocked down to 2 health. Then i manage to run next round. I managed to move to another tile by the door and BAM!!…. Ambush…. I ran successfully. The last tile by the door that i ran to…. Ambush… then death. No 90 gold… no celebration with wenches in town…. Only my salty tears of defeat, a lost character, and knowledge. The game is grid based and has a lot of repetition for maps. I had seen it for a while and that was a turnoff for me BUT I finally downloaded it and then bought the game when notified of a way to avoid ads. $4.99… buy it. Good job with the game Dev. MAKE MOAAARRRR

Great Game. I like the flow of the game and I don’t spend hours playing which sounds like an odd statement to make but being able to stop after a dungeon run and come back later is something nice. You do have to pay to continue your adventure but I think if you enjoy the game after the fight boss fight then I believe it’s worth the money to play on. The think I’m not too fond of is the sanity bar and how random you loss your sanity and maybe increase it over so many level ( +1 per 5 level). Other than that I love the game and plan to play through the entire game.

Overall Good Game. Very fun game with a pretty cool concept. The music is good and the art fits the aesthetic really well. My only disappointment was needing to pay 4.99 for the full game but understandably so, developers gotta make money somehow. It gives you a good preview and foundation of the game, you get to fight the first boss and get through 15 dungeon levels. Thus far its a great game with an awesome concept. Easily worth the 4.99 if you’re into dungeon crawling type of games. Pretty good amount of customization to your character too.

Love it y’all. Nice understandable format, sweet monster designs, all the nice details, a gem in the AppStore. I tend to lean more towards hack’n’slash, more in-depth ya know? But this is ✨just✨ in-depth enough to hold my limited attention span. If I had to critique, I’d request more odd and/or fun things! A rare mushroom that turns the screen to an acid trip color format. A gun skill called full auto that hits a random enemy 6x, stacking if hitting the same enemy. An egg that only shows up on tuesdays, and hatches on Fridays into a random prize or something. An Unlucky Backpack that lets you hold +5 items, but you attract 3x the enemies. A pet cockatrice that has a 30% chance of turning a random enemy to stone, skipping their turn once. I’ve got more ideas if you want them!

A refreshing game in a world of micro-transactions. I got this game, because I was looking for a chill game I could cuddle up with when I was tired or bored, not something extremely demanding of my time. The reviews were good and it is free to try, so why not? I’m happy to say it is exactly the cozy game I was looking for. I took my time enjoying the free trial. I’m still learning things slowly. I think I’ve had it about a week and it’s been great. Production quality is fantastic. I progressed slowly through the first part of the Grotto, not in a hurry to “beat the game”, just enjoying the experience. When I was prompted to buy the full version to continue my adventure, I didn’t even mind. I’m happy to pay for such a well produced game! THANK YOU for making an island of sanity (hur hur) in a world of crazy, dumb, ridiculous cash grab games. I’m looking forward to enjoying my adventures in The Old Empire for a long time.

Helps with my DND fix. Love this game! I love playing all types of games and I was trying to find something with a great story and fun at the same time. I played it for a good amount of hours and beat the first dungeon. I loved it so much I wanted to support the dev, but also I wanted to continue the journey lol. Give this game a chance and fall in love with the story and the character you create. Also it has a permadeath option and I love games with 1 life give it all you got and play safe hehe.

Quells my thirst for dnd. I recently moved to a tiny town and haven’t found a group to play DND with, so I have been looking for ways to quell that thirst. I’ve been listening to live play pods and it helps but I have never been able to find a game that is even close with out paying an arm and a leg. Im only to level 2 and having a blast! Keep it up! Also super affordable! $4.99 for full game and you can play for free for a bit first. I really appreciate that some one made this game

Maybe some ideas on stuff to add. First off this game is really fun. It’s one of those games that’s just really simple to play but makes time fly by. I’ve only just beaten the thief prince I believe is what his name was. But I just feel like the dark spells isn’t the best. Like I wanna be able to summon some skeletons or zombies. Like I just said I only just beat the first dungeon so this may be a thing already I just haven’t reached it yet. If not though I think it’s something that would be really cool to add. Amazing game regardless though.

This Is By Far The Best Mobile game. I was looking for mobile games to play on a trip that I won’t have service and I managed to find this and I have never had more fun on a mobile game. This game isn’t loaded with ads and it’s actually fun I never found my self wanting to get onto my mobile device to play a game but this game is actually good after I finish writing this review I’m probably going to check steam to see if I can get it on pc because omg this game is like overwhelmingly fun and I do not know why.

Well designed game - satisfying turn based rpg with substance. Great gameplay mechanics and definitely in the sweet spot on complexity, love the variety of different load outs and skills you can combine. Just from the first area alone, progression is satisfying and there is a lot of great world building moments. My only gripe is the sound design, most sounds are shortly and loud, and the music is a bit too random to listen to for longer then a few minutes. Would be great if there were a few options for changing sounds effects or even some different track alternatives.

You like rpg? You buy now. If you like old school rpgs, darkest dungeon, dark mysterious nerd vests, etc. you need to play it. Just try it and if you like it then pay the measly $5. It’s worth probably twice that. You’ll have fun. You do want to have fun don’t you? You like fun. Yes you do. I see it on your face, you like fun and feeling good and being happy. So buy it what are you waiting for? You get to travel, which is something you’d like to do if it was t such a hassle. You get to be a special awesome powerful person, which you enjoy. You get to collect loot and powerful items which you like. You have a little spot where you stash your loot when you come back from a dungeon raid and you have to get supplied and upgrade your gear in town before you go out. Sometimes baddies attack the city that you’re presiding over and you send your armies out and can beef up your cities defenses to withstand the enemy. There are quests which you’ll enjoy. You like being a powerful mage, you like being a deadly gunslinger and you like being a deadly melee warrior. The only thing this is missing is cute anime girls. So just try it for free. If you’re still reading this, DOWNLOAD THIS GAME OR YOU AND I ARE NOT FRIENDS ANYMORE. Alright dude, cya later. Love you.

Simply well done. Do you want to adventure but your D&D group is still on the outs after the barbarian gave your party warlock a wedgie? Get Grim Quest and go it alone for a while until it all blows over. This game is simple to learn, has excellent depth through its text adventure, and has combat that’s fun to play. You can get a great sense of the game from the free content, which will make you happy to give these fine developers $5 for the care and hard work they put into this game. I’m looking forward to continuing my Grim Quest through the fall.

Bought the game and wasn’t disappointed. I paid for full access to the game about a month ago and I’ve finished everything, while the gameplay can be repetitive it is really fun making and perfecting your character’s build and completing everything you can do, even after the main storyline there are additional quests to complete for an extra challenge and more content. My only concern is that I heard an additional dungeon called the Haunted Quarry was supposed to be unlocked after you complete all epic quests but I never saw it, I’m not sure if it was broken for me or if it’s only available for the PC version.

Love this game!. This game really is terrific. Exactly what I was looking for in a rogue dungeon crawler. In fact this is the best dungeon crawler I have played on IOS. Totally worth the price! It’s polished, immersive and full of gameplay depth and lore. Interface is smooth and intuitive, and the visuals are slick, clean with just the right amount of detail. Only suggestion I would have is an alternate visual theme other than greyscale. I know the game is called Grim Quest, but I would prefer a brighter alternative theme. Simply reversing black to white, and the white to black would be fine.

Great game. I’ve never given a review for an app but this deserves one. I absolutely love it and even though you have to pay after the first boss it’s absolutely amazing and I completely recommend playing it at least to try. You don’t have to buy it until you’re way into the game so if you don’t like it you don’t have to buy it. It’s great and has a really cool concept it’s following. The dev is also really cool and you can join his discord server.

Interesting variation on dungeon crawler. Quite good so far with the interesting variation of slowly losing sanity the deeper you go. As I primarily play in landscape mode, I found that I had to switch to portrait mode as many of the pull down menus were not accessible otherwise. One development suggestion is the ability to go to the next unexplored square without having to individually click on already explored squares along the most direct path. Siege defense mode could be better explained as there does not seem to be a lot of strategy used in that aspect of the game.

Fun For Grinding w/ Charm. I didn’t expect much, but I did end up shelling out money for the game so that should tell you what you need. Obviously you’re playing you’ll decide if you if you I didn’t expect much, but I did end up shelling out money for the game so that should tell you what you need. Obviously you’ll play in you’ll decide if you like it or not, for me it’s simple enough to pass the time but intuitive enough to keep my attention. I enjoy the writing very much, the story feels alive and the interactions feel like they carry weight. Best part is, I can shut the game down anytime and come back to continue, I like low maintenance games.

Fun Anytime, No Ads, Strategic Planning. The tutorial got me understanding all the game features real quick, and jumping into my first dungeon was smooth. The combat mechanics and different character builds you can do made me smile since there’s no specific class you have to take, but instead unlocking and upgrading your own skills and spells. Building on the previous paragraph, the planning you have to put in choosing skills and spells along with buying and upgrading your dmg, armor, and items requires careful thinking, especially if you play perma-death. You only have so much gold, so don’t go spending recklessly, and consumable items like potions and serums should be used with caution. I couldn’t include my whole experience in this, but know that other game features like sudden events and losing sanity bring extra feelings of relief or worry depending on what happens, which only made me enjoy the Grim Quest more.

Fun, chill, and entertaining game, would recommend!. This is an overall good game, it fits a lot of moods when I want to chill out and play something, when I am bored or waiting, I do a dungeon, or whenever, I will want to play this game. I truly enjoyed this game, it has cool items and lots of fun options, I honestly recommend this game, and don’t worry if you’re not into a really grim and depressing vibe, it’s not really grim. I like this game. You can tell the developers worked on it. But one thing is to get the rest of the game, you have to spend actual money, which makes sense so you get a taste of the game before you buy it but, just so you know, the full game is $5.00. But I still really like the game.

I really enjoy it!. All in all this is a great game. When I was asked to buy the full version of the game a bought it without hesitation. It has a lot of different abilities, items, and strategies you can use as you navigate through the many dungeons. Progression feels a little slow but not slow enough to be that much of a bother. As for the base fundamentals that this game strives for, it hits them well in almost every aspect. The goal to prove yourself to the city while getting stronger is very well written and entertaining. Random encounters within the dungeons are interesting and have the opportunity to be both beneficial and devastating. It is a well balanced game that is a great way to pass some time.

Completely hooked. I haven’t stopped playing since I picked it up, and even paid for the full game. Well done mate.

Wow. Very surprised at how engaged I got with this game lol wasn’t expecting it at all so thank you. Will definitely be paying for the full version soon.

Polished little gem. This game runs smoothly, far more polished then many indie roguelikes. Addictive game play. Just finished the first chapter.

Fun. It is pretty fun and the fact that you can have more than one character makes it really nice.

Great RPG. If you want an old school RPG that is mobile/casual and also has depth then this is it.

Great game. Only wish the map of the battle field wasn’t quite empty like had a background But great game. The dungeons are explorable

Great game. I am all for Dungeons and Dragons style RPG’s, and this, as a mobile game, is a perfect blend. Good game to play on the go, and unlike classic RPG’s with groups, you can organise when you want to play this in an instant. Only downside I’ve seen so far is the lack of description, or reminders, of what each description does. I had to flee to Google to search what the effect ARM was, however was quite dumfounded when I realised the simplicity in the answer, but still. All in all, great game for mobile, and is worth the $7.99 for the full game.

Having lots of fun. That’s about it really, maybe it would be good to see items highlighted in the cauldron so you can see what possible items you can craft from ingredients in your inventory and stash, other that that great game thanks developer have purchased full game

Love it. Very good and cool to play

A bit different. An interesting rogue-like game. Nice to see a non pay to play game. Just started playing but am enjoying the differences

Good mini RPG with plenty to do. Enjoyed the first dungeon enough to buy the whole game; at A$8 it's really gold value for something fun to do on phone. Heaps of variety in builds, skills, items etc.

Fun darkest dungeon style game. As the title says is fun

Just like a RPG. I don’t think I’ve ever left a app review before, but this game definitely deserves one. Well crafted, well written, extremely atmospheric, absolutely ticks all my boxes. Only slight comment, is it needs a bit more music, but asides from that. Easily the best game on the App Store.

Really fun game!. Came in not expecting much and was blown away with how good the game is

Good game. Cool art and gameplay

Worthy. This game I like very much

Great game until it hits you with the, “Buy Full Game”. Played this game for a few hours, honestly was fun and really engaging… until it said “buy full game here”

Old school fun. First hour or so flew by and left me wanting more from the game. Simple mechanics but well balanced, engaging and diverse enough for tons of fun. Love the old school world building and the opportunities the game provides. Can’t praise it enough. Must buy.

Grim indeed. I’ve just started playing and I’m finding Grim Quest to be a very intriguing little app, interesting game play, not overly easy which makes it more fun.

Good game. Pretty solid Experience!

Good game. Easy to understand and easy to play on the go.

Dnd at its core. Well done, I’ve been soo disappointed with all other games, yet this one has been a delight.

Really fun!. Liked Grim Quest a lot and can’t wait to try what else you come up with.

Love it. Probably the best dungeon crawler rpg I’ve ever played on ios

Nice little rpg. Well designed and keeps you engaged. Worth the pice.

Great story-driven rpg. A very good game if you like rpg’s mostly driven by story and text, while still keeping control of your character and be able to make your decisions towards fighting, craft, etc.

Fun for time but then unplayable. Made with monetization in mind. It was well balanced for several levels and then suddenly ramped up in difficulty (starting at “The Tear”). No amount of grinding will allow you to improve. The only way to continue is to purchase the booster pacts (items and gold for 14 bucks CAD) so you can significantly upgrade your character to deal with otherwise overpowered enemies. Fun while it lasted though! I reached an impasse that no amount of reasonable grinding would allow me to circumvent. I’m assuming many get tired of grinding and never make it to “The Tear,” or they purchase a booster pack to power through. Nothing against you trying to make money. But if there really is no concern with monetization, then why not offer the booster pacts for free (as well as paid versions for those that would like to donate)? It would allow players in my position the option of continuing without the perception, rightly or wrongly, they’ve been had.

Fun Casual. if you want and introduction to rpg games with out getting caught up in fighting mechanics this is great. also if you like choose your own adventure this has that kind of feel story wise.

Oooooo. Worth purchasing

The game is great. I play on my phone and this game is everything I wanted from an RPG. Beautiful game.

Good game. Good game to kill time

Solid. Decent dungeon crawler. I like the rpg mechanics and combat is really intuitive. But the game need some quality of life changes and is pretty shallow. Find a few spells that work and you’ve mastered the game.

It’s good. I enjoy it very much I just wish there was more

Fun game. I am enjoying this game. Works well and good story. Only issue I had was I can’t figure out how to save or if it saves automatically.

Good game.. I really enjoy this game.

Well done!. Now, I know you’re expecting a long and detailed story of my daring adventures, but I’ll keep it brief. In general, I dislike mobile games at the best of times. They’re clunky, boring, and just all around poorly put together. I rarely ever play them, let alone spend money on one. But Grim Quest is different. I can tell the developers actually care about their game, and their player base. Grim Quest is incredibly well put together, and from the moment you open the app for the very first time, you’re hooked. The world is built like a professional DnD dungeon master thought it up, and the combat is quick and intuitive. It runs incredibly well; I’ve been playing for well over four months, and I’ve yet to have a crash. In short: well done, devs! You got a mobile game hater to spend money on one! I look forward to seeing where this story goes!

Awesome. I love this game. There is a lot of opportunity to create really unique builds, and much of my in game time is spent just thinking about what direction I want my build to go. One suggestion I have for the developer is to reduce the frequency of manifestation encounters, especially when your sanity is high, say above 7 for example. I find these fights to be tedious and annoying, especially because they don’t ever contribute to bounties. Other than that, great game.

Amazing old style rpg game. Simple to play, good back story, addictive… not a pay to win. well done! I bought the full game to thank the developers in making a not a pay to win game, we need more of those!

Grim Quest Checks All The Boxes. Being born circa 1980ish this game is like those I played in my youth, and that retro RPG feel also made me nostalgic for my pen & paper role-play days. Very well constructed, graphics are literally, “iconic” and real effort went into the gameplay, navigation and overall experience.

Grim Quest is the best single-player mobile game experience I’ve ever had.. I had strayed away from mobile gaming years ago for many reasons: - monetization models that rely on lootboxes/restricted content/cooldowns - cheap aesthetics held up by okay gameplay - cheap gameplay held up by okay aesthetics - poor performance/frame rate Usually a mobile gaming experience would be hindered by one (or typically several) of the above problems to the point that an entire game’s enjoyment would fall apart under the weight of these fundamental issues. I am very happy to say Grim Quest is the exception. In all of the above categories, Grim Quest not only meets the bar of adequacy but far surpasses it and advances to the realm of excellence. The core gameplay loop of dungeon delving, loot hoarding, and skill acquisition is both fun and engaging. I get a very similar level of satisfaction from this game as I do when playing games like Darkest Dungeon, where your skill and monetary management are meaningful and impactful, creating a real sense of agency in the player. Simultaneously, the world-building and storytelling are second to none. The immense amount of effort that must have gone into building such a rich and mysteriously gothic atmosphere has paid off immensely making the world feel complete and alive. In a time where many mobile games forgo real storytelling and ambience in favour of other areas, Grim Quest again sets itself apart. Additionally, the visuals are engaging and thematically appropriate despite their minimalist design. However, not all art assets appear to have had the same level of care. There are undeniably some aspects of the visuals that seem more underwhelming compared to other assets. For instance, the portraits of various locations in the game (such as the many businesses of the primary city Asheborn) are far more detailed and realized than some of the enemy and dungeon map sprites. On one hand, I appreciate this from a gameplay perspective as the simplicity of the in-game/combat artwork helps greatly with readability and reducing clutter. On the other, I can’t help but feel like they could’ve gotten away with a slightly less simplified approach. Despite this the aesthetic is very cohesive and again contributes to the atmosphere very well, ESPECIALLY with the more elaborate location artwork and collectible portraits of the “mad painter”. Overall, Grim Quest is an experience that shows the real potential of mobile gaming. It is a unique, enjoyable, and well-realized RPG experience that holds up against not just other mobile games, but all video games as a collective medium. 5/5

An Amazing Title. I’m currently level 5, but even so, I’ve been enjoying this game far too much. Bought the Full Version relatively quickly. Amazing title.

Good game. I like it

Super charming simple game. I'm loving it so far. Its very fun to play and you can try the first chapter for free. And they don't collect info on you so thats a refreshing bonus.

What a classic!. This really takes me back to the days of table-top RPGs. It’s a minimalist looking game for sure, but it has more gameplay than any of those pretty (vacant) second-rate RPGs out there. Worth it

Great Game!. Great game to spend time on, has a story and scratches my role playing game itch

Good game. I have had a great time with this game, the combat is easy to grasp and relatively simple but with the ability to be a lot more strategic if you wish. I was a little disappointed that you can only play through the first couple level before needed to buy the full game, but the price was very reasonable. If you like simple gameplay but with room to learn and fantasy world with deep lore/backstory to the things in it (as far as I can tell, I don’t read most of it. There are a lot of words). Then like me you will probably have a good time with Grim Quest.

I cannot believe this is free. It’s by-far my favourite game on mobile.

Cool game. Cool game!

Sweet game. Great little game, definitely the entire skill building XP gaming, turn based strategy. What it lacks in graphics it has in spades of story, strategy and difficulty. Was looking for a new game and I can’t put it down. For 7$ you can buy the full game once you’re locked into it.

yey. it’s still a progress game and it’s not bad, takes time to improve and a decent time passer

Absolutely amazing. One of if not the best mobile games I’ve ever played. The full version is worth every penny the amount of content and story and effort this game has in it is unmatched!

Great game!. Awesome old school dungeon crawler!

Loving it. Loving the game so far, excited and hoping for a lot more future updates and potential content updates as well more armour and weapons to add to the game, keep the good work up this game deserves the attention for the work and effort put into it so far can’t wait to see how it turns out later on, recommend for people who really enjoy these types of simple dungeon games it’s got a little bit of difficulty for those who enjoy that and can be fairly easy for people who just want to enjoy the game

Well written and deep. I’m picky but was looking for a game that wasn’t all flash and that I can also pick up and play for any amount of time. This game fits that perfectly. It’s well written, diverse and a lot of content. Great rpg.

Surprisingly enjoyable. A fantastic mini-rpg adventure for passing time

Pleasantly surprised with this mobile game. Thanks

Good game. I love these types of games and this one is one of the best mobiles I’ve played, it’s a little bit of a let down if you don’t buy the full game but if you do you have access to everything it’s a really fun game worth buying

Great game. A good slow dark fantasy game that burns slow and it’s very enjoyable only problem is that it marked itself as a free to play when in reality pass the first dungeon or when you hit level seven it’s no longer free to play

Very good game. Debated not downloading full game, I do not regret it, I’ve only played on permadeath and it’s made my actions feel more tangible and like my choices in battle matter for my own safety and the good of ashborne

Error when buying full game. Really like the game but I keep getting an error when trying to buy the full game.

you should buy it. very fun game buy it or else :)

Super Fun. Solid Dungeon Crawling, well thought out, and just fun!

Classic, enjoyable. Always a good time. Few minutes here and there, no problems

I’ve enjoyed the free trial. Free trial was would recommend I played as a as a psychopathic gunslinger anyways good game

Lots of fun!. You get a very good feel for what the game is like by the free portion, and I decided to pay for the rest because I was enjoying it quite a bit.

Worth it!. Such a fun little game, highly recommend getting the full version!

Good game. Fun to play

Entertaining game. Nice to see, a non-pay to win game. I have no qualms about spending a bit of money to support development. I just don’t like the micro transaction model. This game is free of that, and a nice story line to boot. Great job.

Excellent Old School Game. Solid Game with a really enjoyable gameplay loop.

Good game. Addictive and best way to kill time.

Great fun!. I only have the demo version for iPad at this time. From the amount of time I played, Grim quest is quite fun! It allows for customization of your character and great replayability. I like how the spell/skill system is set up. The ability to set settings before you begin is nice too. So for example, if you want to play in between “grim” difficulty, and “hardcore” difficulty, you select hard core then you can select a lesser event occurrence option, a lesser dungeon size, or even the option where you need less exp. So in essence it allows you to customize difficulty. There’s plenty of player traits and companion traits that affect gameplay. I also like the permadeath option. I’ve had many characters die because I did not keep an eye on the health. (Always spooks me and then gives me a chuckle). You pick those at character creation. The armour and weapon upgrade system is nice too! I love the bounty system as it really helps as gold is hard to come by! You get to play one chapter before you need to purchase the full version. It’s at a fair price too. So combining the one chapter with replayability gives you enough time to really get the feel of the game, so you can decide if you’d like to buy the full version. The things you can buy with real money (extras and are not required, aside from the full ver) are fair price and completely reusable for during play and each character. Not like a lot of mobile games where it’s outrageously expensive and one time use only. The only thing I don’t like is that there could be more levels added as there’s plenty of space on the map. But don’t get me wrong there’s plenty of levels still. All in all a great game.

Fun and they never ask for more money!. Great game to pass the time. Cool story And no micro transactions!

Great dungeon crawler with nice UI. I’ve played this game on PC and when I found out it was available for mobile I jumped to get it. It’s simple enough you can play on a break at work or waiting in a line without getting lost or frustrated, nice effective gameplay loop, and the design of the UI is nice with a unique art style. You can play the first part of the game for free and if you enjoy it support the dev by buying the full game.

SO MUCH FUN. One of THE BEST mobile games on the market. The story, combat, and activities are top tier, and will always provide a good time. After playing the first 15 dungeons, I just couldn’t stop, so after the small $4.99 full-game purchase, I’ve had access to 8 exciting dungeons that are so much fun to complete. 10/10 absolutely recommend.

Well done game. When I look for games on the App Store, I look for games with content and without 30 bajillion ads throw in my face. This is a top quality game that you can spend hours playing before it even once asks you to open your wallet, and even then it’s a one time payment of less than 5 bucks. Worth every penny.

Good game, try it!. I’m thoroughly enjoying myself. I’ve been playing on advanced combat mode and perma-death. My first play through was an early wipe, I’m on character two now and just beat my first boss! I’m invested now, gotta make it to the tear! I’m excited to see how many characters it’ll take me 🤔

Best dungeon crawler I’ve found. This game wasn’t originally what I was looking for, I just happened to come across from it. After giving it a try I can say I had no hesitation to go ahead and unlock the whole game. No ads, no forced microtransactions to progress, just all around a great game

only somewhat accessible. This game seems like it will be pretty cool. When I play games, I use the voiceover screen reader on the iPhone. Navigating the city is pretty easy to do, but the dungeon is a different story. When I try to navigate in the dungeon, there are many on labeled buttons, so I won’t be able to find the items that I’m looking for and fight enemies. This game has a lot of potential, so with these small fixes, I think it would be a lot easier for the visually impaired to play. Thank you.

Amazing game and Devs listen. Amazing game. I been playing for about 10 months now and I emailed the developer about a improvement and they did it. They have other games as well and I heard the PC version is better. Love the game and will go off to the other games they have as well. Thank you Developers!

One of the best indie RPGs for iOS. This is just an awesome game. Much like some of my other favorites, it reminds me very much of a pen and paper RPG... particularly the old school solo dungeon crawls. The writing for the lore is good, the atmosphere is dark and simple/clean art design is perfect. Gameplay wise, the dungeon crawling is fun with plenty of random events to encounter, and combat is simple in execution, but has depth in the skills you pick to use. Also, you get a pet, as you always should. It’s designed to be smooth for one handed gameplay, a personal preference, but one I know many others share. My only request is the same one I have for all other dungeon crawlers: give me a party to control or at least 1 companion! Do that and I’ll start buying copies for my friends.

I enjoy the game but... The game itself is very fun. And the vocabulary in the game is exemplary. The only thing I see very head turning is having to pay for the full game. I mean the price is reasonable but still I don’t know how to recommend this game to friends but them not able to get the full experience due to having a small fee for the whole thing. All in all very fun would recommend

Worth it!. Full game is $4.99 Trial or freemium version is incredibly fun though, and gives a great taste of the follow parts of the game. There are not many rpgs as good as this one on mobile, and I definitely believe it is worth the purchase. But see for yourself and try the free version. Heads up, set the font to simple instead of the fantasy ones, it is soo much easier to read when you are first getting started.

Outstanding. This game is so much fun, if you get to the point of beating the demo and are questioning weather or not to pay the 3 dollars for the full thing I cannot possibly stress enough how worth it, it is. The detail and excitement in this game are absolutley incredible and I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who likes D&D or fantasy games in general.

Pretty good game ngl. My first real review but this game is actually really good but it could be so much better if giving the time to really think about the game like the enemy for start there everywhere which makes sense but it seems like there’s a enemy every other tile and just no reward for fighting so many I say give us a enemy update with better rewards armor and weapons and a fix on the encounters

Great game. This mobile game is a true testament to the love and care put into its development. The absence of ads is refreshing and adds to the overall gaming experience. After just a few days of playing, I felt compelled to support the game by unlocking all of its content, which is reasonably priced at less than the cost of a cup of coffee. The game developers should be commended for their efforts and I eagerly anticipate future updates and developments.

It’s a fun game but a bit repetitive. I do like this game but the enemies are the same with an ability or two. The combat can be strategic but it’s mostly whacking an enemy then getting hit by one to three enemies and repeat. I was a little disappointed when after 17 levels I found out that that was the end of the free trial and you either had to make a new character and replay those same 17 levels or pay 3.99 for the full version of the game.

Phenomenal game. For context, I don’t leave reviews. I also don’t buy mobile games. However, this definitely requires it. This game is amazing. It’s some of the best fun I’ve had playing a mobile game in years. It’s easy to learn with secret mechanics that you’ll learn as you play. Even just the “demo” is phenomenal, and gives you enough of an understanding of the game to know if you’ll love it or not. 5/5 does not do this game justice.

Where the modern gaming industry fails. It’s simple, yet elegant. So many games miss the mark nowadays, and I’m not quite sure what that mark even really is. What I do know, though, is that whatever it is games are missing these days, this game has it. I find this app to be a true work of art, I wish there were more like it. I hope it sticks around for a very long time.

Great Game. I haven’t played to many of these type of games, but now thanks to this game I will. Don’t let the simple graphics turn you off. It’s a solid dungeon crawl. The controls are easy to learn, and the story and objectives keep you interested. If I had to complain about anything once and a while (frankly not often at all), some typos in the game.

Absolutely wonderful. I was expecting just another cheap, boring mobile game but when I installed this and started playing, saying it was great is an understatement. The controls are simple, the gameplay is simple but engaging, and it works phenomenally despite a few annoyances here and there. The full game is definitely worth the $4 price tag if you have that much.

Very well done!. This is a prime example of this game type done right, done well and with care. The delivery of this game is what makes it amazing, easy to understand and thus easy to enjoy. Ramps up quick enough to keep you playing and it’s hard enough to keep you coming back for more! I really enjoy it, thanks!

Excellent game with deceptive depth- a future classic. Though not flashy, this is a deep game rich with culture and lore. There is much free gameplay and if you finish that, you’ll be hooked enough to pay the minuscule price of $3.99 to unlock all game play. I’m very excited to see what this newbie game designer does next. A fantastic buy- especially given its very low price and excellent quality.

A breathe of fresh air!. No ads, this is probably one of the first mobile games that doesn’t feel like it’s constantly trying to waste my time with countless ads (I have not seen one thus far) and gives you a good long time to enjoy the game before you have to pay a very reasonable 5 dollars to unlock the full game. Will keep playing!

Game is free until you beat the first boss. Like any Old school rpg games, this game had simple mechanics, but its charm lay in the complexity of their strategy and problem-solving. Spoiler alert: If you beat prince of thiefs, the game requires you to pay 4.99$ for full game, I understand that free games without Ads may not be feasible while covering company costs, but I would like to see if the company can offer the game for free for one week. I sincerely thank you for considering my request.

Incredible -please alter or explain mutagen rates though. Amazing story, great game. Very entertaining and very high replay quality. It lets you play for a good while before asking you to get the full game. $5 is very worthwhile. My only (hyper specific and not gameplay affecting) problem is how little mutagen you find or buy. You can use it for alchemy to make useful items, but it’s hard to get. If you like this game, try Shattered Pixel Dungeon

Go ahead and get the full version. It’s 5.99 a steal tbh, I don’t really play games like this often but it is good with a nice inventory system, I would highly recommend playing if you’re looking for a nice mobile game to sink some time into when you get out of work or school 👍🏽

Amazingly simple yet full of depth. This is such a wonderful game. The mechanics are simple to learn and great for a quick dungeon crawl. But I find myself absorbed into the world for several dungeons at a time. The seemingly endless tidbits of lore that you find along the way bring the world to life. And the minimal artwork is equally simple and beautiful. Very creative game and fun. Thank you.

Thanks for creating such an awesome game!. Me and my wife started playing this game since yesterday and we’ve been hooked since! Although the game is not fully accessible with voiceover especially when it comes to navigating in the dungeon. However, it can still work if you have some patience! So far, the game is so addicting and amazing! And hopefully the developer will fix the non-accessible parts soon!

Ice mourned. Thanks buddy for the time you spent. On making this game. I got the game un locked. We had words before. You and I. I allnist said no to your game but I seen your point. I’m good now. Just want other to no if this gamer. Comes at you like he did me. Look past it. He’s good and his games are great. Keep the good work up I’ll support. U game when I can. Love it

Great game. Played up to level 7 and just paid to unlock full game. Looks like a good amount of content for the price. The game is just really fun if you like simple rpg style with a simple crafting system that is enjoyable. Exploring dungeons is great too. For me it’s a winner because it has enough to get involved in and have fun progressing without feeling like you have to do “research” just to understand it.

Paywall. The intro is amazing and I love the style of this game but once you defeat the first boss the game completely locks up until you pay $3.99 for the full game. No problem with this except you cant even do the intro level anymore. Nothing wrong with the game other than that. One of the most interesting and fun games on my phone!!

FINALLY!!. I’ve been looking for a game like this for a long time. Finally I have found one that isn’t trashy, aside from having to spend 3.99$ on the full game it’s amazing but definitely worth the price. I love the lore behind the game and the story it’s built, can’t wait to keep going!

Fantastic RPG. Elements of Darkest Dungeon are present in the best possible ways. Not at all derivative, and easily worth the $4 for the entertainment value. The amount of customization in creating a character is pretty impressive by Itself for a mobile game. I actually look forward to settling in for the night and dropping and hour or two into building my character and clearing dungeons. Easy 5 star

Where to begin!!. Seriously, I’m speechless! When i first tried out this game, i thought it was absolutely amazing! The lore is immersive, the dungeons are fun to traverse and discover. It’s also one of the first games I ever felt compelled to purchase the full version of. 10 out of 10 would recommend to a friend. Thank you for the awesome game developers.

Game is quite beautiful. Scratches that old text based rpg itch with some nice combat mechanics and item system. Enemies are varied enough and bosses are cool. Would recommend paying the $5 to skip adds, as the music and overall immersion could be rudely inturupted by some add popping up to tell you to go to applebees.

Can you finish?. Addictive, but eventually I just couldn't go on. I made it to day 117 and my character was 24th level and I tried 3 times to clear level 2 of the Tear before I realized I was using more resources each trip. Time to try again with another build. Not sure how many hours I've played this, but it's definitely the best of its kind that I have found. Worth every penny.

Great game but scummy. The game is great. Very well made and fun to play BUT it’s not a full free game. You can play through the first dungeon to completion before it ever tells you that you have to pay for the full game. As soon as I killed the boss on the first dungeon, the game locked and wouldn’t let me do any new dungeons or the dungeon I just beat. It holds the game hostage unless you pay for the full game. There needs to be a warning or notice at the start that it’s basically just a trial.

Very simple, but full of detail.. This old school, turn based dungeon crawler has its own unique storyline set in a (you guessed it) grim world! It’s very satisfying to pick up and play. Depending on how you’re progressing though can start to “slightly” feel grindy. I recommend playing around until you find a character build that suits you early on before going on to tackle the full game.

Absolutely astounding. It hasn’t even been a day and I’m mesmerized by this masterpiece. I’ve been looking for a game I can actually enjoy and I wasn’t even interested in these kinds of games until I tried this one out. Everything about it is perfect and I couldn’t be happier with the app.

Amazing. This is a simple, yet amazing game. I got it yesterday, and just today bought the full thing. It’s like a single player DnD game, but fighting-focused. The sanity aspect brings a sort of horror to it. Not in a jump-scaring way, but more of a genuine fear. You can actually TELL how it affects your character instead of being told. The only issue I have is gender/pronouns. Your character is, by default, male. You cannot change this. While it is annoying, it doesn’t even appear too much.

A must-have. Normally with mobile games, I get tired of them within a day or two. Grim Quest is not one of those games. I’ve been playing it solidly for a week now, and I don’t intend on stopping until I beat it. Fun strategies and combos, a Dungeons and Dragons-like combat feel, and plenty of relatability. Well done.

Impressive Game. This is a really enjoyable game to play. The story line and details are really well thought out. It’s definitely worth more than the full game price that the developer is asking, and I like the incentive options for donating more. I recommend this game to any who enjoy the D&D type gaming.

Good ol’ fun. I love it! Unlike a lot of other app store games that ask for money at every turn, this game offers simple fun and level progression and only asks for a one-time purchase to unlock the full game (which I didn’t mind spending because it felt like I was supporting a smaller developer).

Well done. It doesn’t seem like it will grab your attention at first, but it draws you in as you try and get your character built up. Gold got a bit scarce at first, and I started over a few times when I learned what worked for me and what didn’t, but I enjoyed it enough to buy the full game and keep going. Simple, but very enjoyable. Well done.

Difficult and Addictive. Just like classic text based RPGs of old, this game can be unforgiving and brutal in the best kinds of ways. Unladen with microtransactions, the only purchase you’ll ever need to make is the $5 for the full game. Story and lore are both rich and offer a dour world for you to explore (and eventually die) in!

Exactly what I wanted!. The mechanics of the game are stellar with a well balanced dungeon crawl system and character builds that have a huge variety of combinations and level up options. Additionally the free version of the game which is lite has plenty of exposure so by the time you run out of content you either have already dropped the game or you are ready to play the 4.99 for the full game! Worth it!

A great game for people who Love D&D. As someone who loves D&D and other TTRPG games but has little time to actually play them, this game gives me a nice feeling of being back with some of my favorite characters and even helps me make new ones and think of Really good backstories at the same time!

A game I'm happy to support. So many free games sprinkle "optional" fees around that their free versions become obnoxious, or unplayable. This game is just awesome. It may be low-frills in some aspects, sure. But it's well-written, and thoughtfully-designed throughout. Even the paid parts are outstanding value for everything you get. Awesome game!

Bought when it cost money. There was a brief issue where I didn’t have access to the full game, and had to reach out to the developer. He responded quickly, and resolved it. The game itself, and the developer’s quick response, have earned him the five stars I have provided.

Awesome app, but really needs accessibility improvements. This app is incredible, and the story is great, but the asp really needs to be overhauled for VoiceOver. The tiles need to be labeled, and there are too many images that VoiceOver should read as buttons. Other than that, it would be cool to have ambient sounds instead of just music. This review also applies to grim tides.

Still needs a lot of work.. It’s not playable on my iPhone 12. I’m finding a number of things that need fixing just in the games setup alone. Like with character selection the text to the right of it’s icon are truncated and can’t be read. Hard to make a decision if you can’t read everything. Further into the game, like the World Map. The text overlays itself making the game impossible to play! Had high hopes for this game but it’s unplayable on an iPhone 12. Deleted. Still looking for a ‘quality’ product. Back to Sword Quest.

just what I’ve been looking for. I can’t believe I haven’t come across this game before! I would have paid more than $5 for the amount and quality of content. Lovely little dungeon crawler with a rich world full of interesting lore and simple streamlined gameplay. Very easy to pick up and start playing.
