Errors Saving or Publishing. The app restarts itself in the middle of creating a style. Most times the loading performance icon just sits there infinitely spinning and never actually loads a performance which I can use to create a style. If it does load, and I spend time creating a style, it gives an error saying it cannot save or publish.

Privacy concerns. App constantly freezes. Also, they take your videos from smule as templates. They use raw video without your consent. One of the worst apps. Don’t waste your time. I have been waiting weeks for Smule to provide an update. Nothing. It gets zero stars

Not Accessible. I’m totally blind and I use a screen reader on iPhone called VoiceOver and this app isn’t VoiceOver accessible at all. I literally can’t use the app at all. If there’s anyway you can contact Apple so they can help yall make it VoiceOver accessible, that would be great. Thank you. My Smule user name is AllieTurner4 and I have an iPhone 11

is this for real? and i pay HOW MUCH again?. I seriously think this company has a five-year-old doing their app development. Every time an update is released, some other feature or basic function is borked, which ruins the experience. For instance, a few updates back, autoplay was removed from the app (smule), so when you listen to a song, instead of moving to the next song it just repeats the same song over and over until you’re ready to jump off a bridge. WHY? Now THIS APP, barely even FUNCTIONS. I have no clue how to use it, what its primary purpose is, or why this dumb sh&t even exists in the first place - HOW is this basic of all basic editing feature NOT in the main app? Dude, Smule. get your s### together this s### is like coding 101. get a real programmer for crying out loud.

Love this app, but temporarily frustrated. I love this app, but temporarily frustrated. I love Smule & Style Studio. Can’t afford to make solo videos often, but recently have become able to purchase Smule VIP pass when given an Apple Card as a bday gift. I was so excited to not only get to make solo videos and invite others to sing. However, I tried 3 times to upload videos through style studio and I got the same msg: “Something went wrong”. I’ll always use Smule because I love it! I love style studio, too, when it works! Thank you in advance for quickly addressing and fixing this issue.

New Smule- total fail. Im cancelling. I have been using Smule for years as a paying member. Now its complete trash. They changed everything and its confusing AF. Old records of my songs have been cut down to seconds.- stop trying to be something youre not. Be you. Im canceling my membership

Seriously?. Seriously? You have to add another app? This is garbage, not a good move. Been on the Sing app for more then 8 years now, and the quality of vocals now isn’t good. Plz go back to the original App , cuz I believe you’re losing good paying clients, and just continue to lose more, as the app gets more complicated. Thank you, I will continue to stick it out and sing for now……but it definitely isn’t as easy and fun as it used to be. 😟

Love it but .... I absolutely love the new style addition to Smule but It still needs tweaking. My styles are disappearing, and the last one I created did not have an effect I inserted after it was published.

Worst Wasted Potential of an App.. Confusing to use with no direction or guidance confusing to navigate your way to even utilize. any new app and the options of it’s tools it takes some time getting the hang of it but this literally seems useless. Suggestion, go back to drawing board with this or create one new n better. Original Smule app needs to Allow duets the option pick mics from more than just the Smule basics. I’d rather community made mics for most performances.

Complicated, invasive, and unusable. This app is worthless, and it violates privacy by giving people access to the raw recordings of others. Imagine if people could remove filters from your photographs! Same idea. Furthermore, the functionality is rough, requires a ton of manual set up, and is incredibly buggy. And it’s been partnered with the most devastating app update to Smule. Don’t bother with either.

I liked the old smule. Honestly the new upgrades where cool and all but not worth completely getting rid of ur old format like it’s just so much extra now it’s ridiculous the last comment on here really did hit the nail on the head with how most of the people I kno from smule have felt about it.........

Love this so much. First off I want to thank u for makin this app second I’d like to all to plez edit how u edit the makeup parts like adding a percentage bar so we can tell how much is what..? It’s hard to tell without it that would improve this app tremendously I love all the cool edits y’all have and enjoy making them up i love how it all comes together it’s awesome I have 4 stars but will change to 5 stars if y’all fix the small things I requested thanks 🫶🏻

New effects format. He guys and ladies i love what yall have done. Its just hella fun. Ok there is a little learning curve but well worth it. Hey and I am almost 65 so if I can....well ya know. I am excited with where you are going. I dont want to sound gushing...but actually I am. Smule for life baby.

Makes no sense. This app makes absolutely no sense. Why am I being brought immediately to someone else’s performance? I’m normally pretty savvy but this app is garbage. Not user friendly. I do not approve of the new Styles formatting, this is the worst update smule has ever made.

Confused. How do I use my own performance I don’t see where I have that option it has others and that’s it. I don’t understand how to connect this with my Smule app.

People can use my old recordings?!?. Smule, you need to fix this or trash it. Someone can search my name and find an old recording of my daughter and I...then make all kinds of adjustments and save it....all being raw and unfiltered...

Needs improvement. Its hard to manipulate in the beginning, so far i have created 2 styles and published them, just i dont know where they were published though, so i think it needs more updates and fixing, with the right corrections can be a great app

To the golden hair developer. When I found this app I knew that it was connected to my heart and liked it a lot because it had content directly connected to me songs about me litarly so in the development of it was a direct connection between me and a blond woman that created it she used me for the development and then she lied to me about it so this app was created in part because she used me for content

New Smule app! Rates a negative 10. You need to fix this app where when we join someone on a song I can use my own settings not the ones they choose to use. There is no way to use my settings when I join someone. When a join begins we should be able to change the settings to our own settings. This is the worst change I’ve ever had to deal with since joining Smule. I’m sure no one will address this or even read this so I’m probably wasting my time but at least I tried. Awesome App. Reviewers are really concerned about privacy which makes no sense to me , few things want to highlight: 1. It is cool app to get your creative thinking like a pro and add styles. 2. Publishing means you are only publishing your style for your song & it is only for you to use. The collab doesn't go public. 3. Styles are fun, believe me smule did great addition. 4. yes needs fixes i already emailed them on many. 5. You can search your collabs voc or not voc within the app. No need share from smule nice integration. 6. My smule id is Suren__ please reach out if you have questions. Doesn’t work. First let me say Smule Style Studio doesn’t work for me. Next I agree with so many other user that Style Studio is a privacy concern. We give Smule permission on Sing app but how is it okay to just make all of our performances visible to everyone in Style Studio? I have performances my child had done. I’d be greatly offended if someone chose to edit their songs. Smule has had too many inconvenient changes to the point where Sing app doesn’t seem fun anymore. The video fx and voice fx can’t be chosen separately for each performance which is a complete bummer. We want old Smule Sing back. Right when they changed the platform to video was as far as Smule should have ever gone.

Difficult to use. This app is confusing and difficult to use. The original version of Smule Sing was much more user friendly. The additional app was unnecessary and the features are worthless.

Updated review. I love how this app can harness the creativity in making Smule videos. Many of the previous problems have been addressed and I’m happy about that but I still wish that the app doesn’t crash every so often and makes me lose my hard work. I hope that problem with crashing can be fixed soon.

SO COOL AND FUN. I kinda freaked out at the beginning when I first saw that it affected the classic format but after playing with it for a day I am thrilled to say WOW! LOVE IT .... When you play with it a little you just realize that it’s a FUN improvement ... most definitely!!! THANK YOU SMULE! *HI FI*

Really?. I am among many Smule VIP’s that are very dissatisfied with Smule and Smule Studio. The Smule app was brilliant. The new updates that include styles are not what I would expect from such an amazing app. They’ve made it difficult to get a great sound. After all it is a SINGING app. The video stuff is great but needs to be separate from the audio. The new audio features are difficult to work and the sound quality is severely lacking. Unless you like sounding like you are singing with your head in a bucket. And Styles is hard to use. I gave it a shot and went through the long process of creating a style and it has yet to work out right for me which I admit may be user error and not your fault. Maybe if you kept all that but changed the audio back to its original setup. Thanks

Violates my right privacy. Very unhappy about this. I don’t give permission for anyone to view my pre edited material. When I publish an open or collab it’s because I approved its current sate. Unethical and wrong. This going to be a platform for bullies

Cool. I am just enjoying these cool new audio and video settings 🙂 Nice way to sustain interest. However, the audio seems to be facing minor setback after the recent updates!

Lame. smule was my favorite! it still is …But the developers have been ruining it lately! recent changes are not improving it… It's taking away our ability to put fx on our videos and audio as we go and experiment as we create And this style studio thing … it's unnecessary and it doesn't look or sound good and is a stupid waste! Please please please sign off so we can use the version before you just messed everything up andI signed a petition and I know hundreds and thousands who knows maybe millions of people have…

Awful invasion of privacy complicated to use. I hate this app. I couldn’t figure it out. I also hate that people can alter old recordings. I want to be able to just do different sound effects on different layers within the app and in the individual songs. This is awful and ridiculous. I am canceling my VIP membership if this does not change

Please make this better. Some of us like to sing but would like to hide our imperfections. This is a great way to do this, except you must put more filters. This use to work well… something has changed? It doesn’t allow you to create your personalized look???? Please make this feature better and a lot more people would sing. Thank you, Sarah

Don’t waste your time- SCAM. TERRIBLE!! Don’t waste your time. Edits don’t save. You can’t locate edits after they are supposed to save. Says they saved but the video won’t come up it says no performance. I was really disappointed. I was so excited to edit my videos free. But it’s a scam app that doesn’t work. I can’t believe Smule created this. So many videos I tried and retried. You can’t save or share it at all. Once I click save I can’t ever get it back. Disappointed in Smule for sure.

Why is a companion app needed???. Takes too long to load. Too confusing. Smule edits are too busy. And just odd. I made an OC and suddenly my look and filter were completely different after someone joined my song. The new Smule is disappointing. Go back to former version.

It freezes. I tried it several time and it freezes. It doesn’t work properly. I’m not happy wit the fact that anyone other than the owner of the Oc and the joiner be able to alter a collaboration using this.

Unnecessary LET US DELETE INDIVIDUAL LAYERS. How am I supposed to have planned out my song’s fx before I even sing it? How can I delete mine? Or edit the ones I made just to tear the app? Why does it always bring you to the same video every time you open the app instead of a general loading screen? Why do I need a second app to do the exact same thing the original did (except now you broke it so this is our only choice)? Worthless. Unnecessary. You’ve managed to anger every paid user you have. Why am I paying for VIP when anyone can just use a template?? Why spend all this effort to break things instead of listening to our ideas (the ones made by people who use this app for years and know what we want??). LET US DELETE INDIVIDUAL LAYERS. Get rid of the static in the beginning of a song. Give us back cover art. Give us a logout button. Save every layer without having to close out the app and wait 10 min each time. Stop asking me to follow every person that uploaded a song (especially when I’ve opened the song a thousand times!) LET US DELETE INDIVIDUAL LAYERS.

Enjoy creating video effects. I really enjoy this app, and I have created hundreds of different styles using this app and millions of people regularly use the styles created by me. You had introduced a falling leaves video fx for a brief period of time and then it was removed. Could you please add it back?

Dazed & Confused. No rating. Why? I have tried to figure the Style app out so many times I want to scream. But then I would lose my voice. Oh yeah, that’s why I pay for Smule, so I can sing, not be a graphics editor!! Smule was just fine before you added all this “stuff”. I hate trying to sing a song - because I have to scroll the tons of STYLES!! Hoping to EVENTUALLY find one that doesn’t have FLOWERS OR BUBBLES coming out of my eyeballs and mouth!! Can you PLEASE give us some decent directions on how to use this app. I’m sick of singing with all kinds of technical hoops to jump through. It has really DOWNGRADED the entire singing experience. Look at my channel. I used to sing ALL THE TIME. Now it is a huge struggle to push myself to do it, because life is TOUGH ENOUGH w/o having this to deal with too. I’ve hated it since day 1. Please - explain this app - it’s called DIRECTIONS. Maybe- we can learn the basics enough to want to stay. Btw, w all the upgrades on Smule, it glitches more than ever. Delete. How do you delete this app??? I don’t want to use Super Studio and have white birds flying in and out of head with light from the heavens! This is ridiculous. Makes my song look like a joke.

Amazing song editor. This is so cool and useful app that you can edit your song filters. It will be a game changing app

Horrible breach of privacy. Everything is horrible. Sound, terrible, videos, terrible. The fact that anybody can change your videos and audio fx without your consent and publish it? Its the craziest breach of privacy I have ever seen from any apps developers. Smule is supposed to protect its community. Rather, they are giving room to scammers, hackers to edit our stuff easily. Imagining the teenagers who are using this app. Imagine the level of bullying they will face when their friends change their voice and put in on a website to tease them. Come on smule. You can do better than that. Your community is highly vulnerable right now.

Geeeeez Smule .... Can you not get anything right anymore? I was forced to update Style Studio because the version I had was incompatible with the style I wanted to use. Well ... the app crashes immediately upon opening since the latest update. Thanks, Smule!

Horrible. You introduce an app that encourages creativity and you add updates that makes it way worse than it was originally. Typical smule developers. How about you just stop updating cuz all of your apps get worse as time goes on

Stick to the singing!!!. Smule, please please please please please go back to what made this app amazing, the singing!!! First of all, instead of creating trash like this, how bout giving us the ability on the fly to couple effects? Like how it used to be, WHILE you are singing??? How bout allowing us to use more than one effect on different parts of the song? For example, grunge on parts and delay on others??? How bout letting us make a solo, and if we want it to turn into a duo/duet the app will remove any part twos or whatever automatically? How about getting more licenses for songs instead of removing our uploaded arrangements??? Ooh, I know! How about adding the ability to upload and create arrangements from our phones or tablets finally??? You very lucky that the voice app and others don’t have the popularity to shut you down yet. But remember MySpace? Yahoo? All it takes is for the right endorsements and a more comprehensive app to come out. Just sayin.

Don’t Waste Your Time!!!. First off it doesn’t work at all. You hit publish and it doesn’t publish on your Smule page at all. I don’t believe in audio affects but the face styles I thought were fun but you actually can’t get them published…says it’s published but it’s not! Stick to just singing!!!! That’s an hour of my life I won’t get back!

Not a user friendly app. It’s hard to find your way around this app. Just one example, I should be able to find my uploaded songs under my profile, but can’t. It would also be very helpful if one could change the key to what they need. It’s a great concept, poorly applied.

Incredibly frustrating!. If you make a mistake, you can’t fix it. It always says I already have a style and I need to delete my current style. Such a great idea to provide NO instructions, Smule!

Huh. Why is Smule wasting money on this garbage when they need to be investing in how to have people be able to deactivate their account instead of needing it to sit idle for 5 years or deleting it permanently. Why are they wasting money making this app look like a joke, when there are people trying to use this as a platform for their music? This app isn’t even well explained, I looked it over and still wouldn’t know how to use it. I think Smule needs to invest in a better app with better functionality before they add garbage like this. Who’s in charge of this stuff . They need fired. It’s good in a way though…I think the 12 and 13 years olds will love this stuff….

Options. Where are the options to delete or edit some mistakes? Because when you first start the app, it’s very confusing and there are no clear instructions. Also, how do I get back the original video and voice filters from Smule, prior to using this app? I don’t like it and prefer the original settings before downloading this Studio app. I do singing lessons and HATE singing with effects. Now, I don’t have a choice, even after uninstalling this app.

Big mistake!. It was a big mistake to install this app. Super confusing and annoying! After hours of figuring out by myself on how to use it, i tried it for video calls. I didn’t like it at all! So i deleted it thinking it would go back to original smule version. But no! No turning back. Hate it! Today i joined people’s video calls. I couldn’t change the filters, audio nor video effects. And i also opened a video call, i thought people who joined my video call would have to use the same filters and effect that i have chosen. But the fact is they (who still have the original smule) can choose whatever filters and effects they want, and my video changed to the very raw filter, which is without smoothing, no colour filters, etc. Very very weird! I don’t enjoy using it anymore! Pls give freedom to VIPs to choose the original smule or the new style smule. I definitely prefer the original version.

No Help Section. Just was looking for instructions on how to use this as it looks like I need to select something for every part of the song or it won’t have an effect? I got no idea? Help needed for app pls. Otherwise this is a great idea/app.

Great inclusion. Smule is really expanding its repertoire with this App. It’s a great inclusion and is really entertaining. It enhances your performance and what’s more makes you look good doing it.

Horrible complicated and useless. I hate this new app !!and I hate that I can’t choose my effects for each layer placed !!! It will take more than a few months to fix everything that is wrong with this app and knowing this update would make us lose our choice in effects , you still still went ahead and push it through !!!!! it’s just disrespectful to all VIP members of the Smule community !!! Hey! What the heck. I Don’t know what is the idea of modifying videos of peoples and songs that i didn’t know from Eve or Adam come on! Really what’s the point , can’t imagine that a programmer thought that would be interesting to modify other videos than our owns this is not friendly user at all because you loose an hour just to find how to modify your own video and finally you uninstall it because you realized that no man! You can’t edit your own video to make it look or sound better but hey pick a nobody and try to have fun with this,!! I would have give some stars but really i don’t see the point.

Why...?. Why COMPLETELY changing an app (Smule karaoke) that I was satisfied with to something totally different?? I’ve been paying my VIP subscription for years and I was happy with Smule until you guys destroyed it without even giving us the option to use the « before » version☹️👎🏼 I feel extremely disappointed and also feel betrayed in a way.

True musicians want postproduction not preproduction. I guess the smule app was never for the true musician. And this new style that ruined the original app with its Instagram-like video filters, proves it. Read on if you want to know how it works and why it’s terrible. Skip to the bottom if you don’t feel like reading this detailed description why styles is a waste of your time. When you go into the styles app with a video from Smule, you are faced with a longer version than the square that you thought was recording. So if anything was going on below that area, like maybe cleavage you hid, or maybe somebody recorded with no pants on, you are now going to be able to see that if the camera caught it. And that would be OK, I guess, if it was only your own video. But you can take ANY video with the person who joined you OR SOMEONE ELSE’S video entirely. Once you take that video to the styles app, now you’re able to see that person completely stripped of filters (audio and video) and in the long view. So you’re already trying to make peace seeing yourself stripped of filters and finally go and start playing with your video. You even start to have a bit of fun, adding back audio fx, adding you and your singing partner in sunglasses, Polaroid pictures, hearts, sun bursts...they really spared no expense in these areas. You almost start to forget that this is a singing app. Then you spend about 10-15 minutes making your video look kinda cool. And you think oh wow, this will be fun to give back to my friend and show them how I made a cool music video out of our old duet. Then you publish it only to find that this is not the case. This is not a post-production add-on app at all. This is pre-production ONLY. And then you think, this won’t affect the original app. I can still use it as I once did. THINK AGAIN. Now when you open Smule, and open a duet OC (open call) The “template” you by mistake just made shows up along with all the other new video filters/styles already provided by Smule. Kind of like when you download a filter in Instagram stories. Honestly, seeing myself without filters and then seeing all these new filters makes me not want to use filters at all let alone all the other features. So please, raise your hand if you wanted to be able to make a video of yourself before you make a video of yourself. If Smule styles app is supposedly a separate app, why is it infecting my original Smule? We should be allowed to use the original Smule app without this new, poorly developed idea literally tainting what we’ve been having so much fun with over the years. A lot of us just make music: we sing cover songs, we do group songs together with a like-minded community sometimes using 99 layers to make a song really creative. I am trying to keep my reviews only about styles app. But it’s difficult when You rolled out a forced update related to a separate app. It’s corrupted the smule app into being something we never asked for. TL:DR - A separate app, would’ve been great For those who might use it. Smule should’ve acted as songs for the new STYLES app. But instead the new STYLES app is poisoning the original app. In addition this should only be allowed in a post production if at all. Otherwise you risk privacy issues.

Stupid app. Why not give us an app that allows people to make their songs … with the instrumental and lyrics …. Like you can in the site with a pc

Fix Smule. Fix Smule! I want these options back on Smule. I don’t want another app to do the same things Smule used to do. This is not easy to use. This is crap. So frustrated!

I personally believe that this brings out the creativity in everyone I have noticed everyone getting more and more creative with each style these styles can be so amazing IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING THAT IS ! IT Took me some time to figure it ALL OUT BUT NOW THAT I HAVE IM HAVING SO MUCH FUN NOT ONLY CREATING THE COOLEST STYLES TO GO WITH INDIVIDUAL SONGS AS WELL AS THE COOLEST AUDIO FOR INDIVIDUAL SONGS OR ANY SONG REALLY ..ITS FUN PLAYING AROUND WITH THE AUDIO ...IN DOING THIS YOU CAN FIND WHIAT AUDIO TWEEKS WORK THE BEST WITH YOUR VOICE AND THAT IS CERTAINLY COOL !! ALTHOUGH DON’T GET ME WRONG (YOU DO NEED TO BE ABLE TO SING FOR THESE TWEEKS TO EVEN WORK EXAMPLE (IT WILL NOT GIVE YOU A BETTER VOICE WITH THESE TWEEKS ! IT ISN'T MAGIC IT CANNOT TURN SOMEONES VOICE INTO AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL IF IT WASN'T ALREADY THAT WAY ! AND LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST IT MAKES THESE VIDEOS SO MUCH MORE FUN TO WATCH ! THE OLDER ONES WERE ONES THAT YOU GUYS HAD WERE NOT A LOT THATS FOR SURE.. bubbles stars and the stars are what would give you that look that would flash and freeze frame your face kind of like slow motion or freeze it completely for a few seconds depending on how many stars you used colors were black and white sepia and color vivid color and smoke which some ppl would use so much of the smoke it looked like the house was on fire 😂 and audio not a whole lot to pic from except spotlight and canyon and super stereo my three faves and still are ! THEY ALSO HAD OPRA STERO INDI HARMONIZING HYPE AND GRUNGE! OR NONE Anyway I JUST WANTED TO PERSONALLY THANK YOU SMULE FOR MAKING SMULE SO MUCH MORE FUN I LOVE THIS APP SO MUCH AND ALL OF THE AMAZING PEOPLE THAT ARE IN HERE ❤️ BUT NOW I LOVE TO ALSO CREATE REALLY COOL VIDEOS AND WATCH PEOPLES PERFORMANCES ALL THE WAY THROUGH ! Broken. How do I get my old controls back???? my original video control options are gone. And have disappeared from my Smule Sing App. I tried deleting and reopening already

No!. This is annoying ! It’s horrible to use and we should get an option not to use it. Smh

Unnecessary and ruined the SMULE APP. The thing is this, what was once a working app, has now become absolute horse poop, the need for this app is completely redundant, what they need to do is get rid of this godamn side app, put things back to the way it was, get some frigging rights to fan favorites (because they don’t have the actual rights to songs apparently, and a lot of my personal favorites are gone including songs I already sang with someone) so instead of focusing on VIDEO, which isn’t the point to karaoke or Voice Acting, and make things right. Bottom line. If you decide to waste your time and download this I wish the best to you. But until they fix the issues here present, I’d steer away from this.

It’s GREAT! 😊Anyone😊 can learn it!. 💎To make your own new FX tap the squares at the lower right, you can use your own past performances to build FX instead of the preloaded one. 💎No one can change your recording and save it, it just shows up as a template if you used someone’s style previously and your collab is public. My children’s private collabs do NOT show up in the new app. 👎It does crash, but it’s new. No one spanks a baby for falling when they are learning to walk. I KNOW it’s going to get better! 👎Group joins seem to make every joiner’s screen skinnier and skinnier until you can’t even see their face. I REALLY miss the Classic Group Tiles and how they moved around, highlighting different singers as larger square tiles at different times. 👎It does take a few minutes to learn and if you just want to sing, it can be frustrating not knowing how a new style’s FX is going to turn out throughout a whole song. Smule should make the old classic buttons available to people who just want to sing(!!!) and not necessarily _produce_a_video!_ After all SINGING is what brought us here in the first place, it wasn’t originally a video app! I think Smule creators forgot that not all singers and musicians are video makers. Maybe... open two Smule apps? One called Classic Smule and one called Smule Styles? Because anyone can learn to use this, but does EVERYONE _w_a_n_t_ to? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Keep up the awesome work, app developers! Just please make it easy for the ones that just want to sing!🎤🎤🎤😘

HORRIBLE!!!!. you’d have to be a rocket scientist to figure this out! confusing and not easy to use. would love to see this integrated in the original app. this is more trouble than it’s worth.

NO. 7 years on this app and this is GARBAGE !!!! It was perfect exactly the way it was. LEAVE S**T ALONE !!!!!!!

HAS NOT CHANGED!! A now experienced user’s view.... Let me first say that Smule has a lot to learn about change management. This never should have been so jarring to their user base. In fact, if handled properly their users would have been clamoring for it. Instead Smule got tons of bad reviews and lost goodwill from their otherwise very loyal users. Communication is key to driving adoption!!! Zero stars for this. Now that I’ve spent time using styles in Smule I don't want to view a video without them. The WOW factor has increased exponentially. The visual and audio effects are wonderful. The user experience, however, is still lacking. Simple common functions such as open, edit and save are hard to find or require several steps to use. There is no in-app help to speak of and the icons are not typical. Navigation is a mystery at first and not at all intuitive. The flow to create a style is entirely backward. Although based on and applied to categories established in the uploaded songs, users are not given the ability to view the categories in uploaded songs from within Smule unless they uploaded it nor in Styles when selecting a song to create their style. Instead they have to find an existing performance –blindly searching through what can be many performances by other Smulers of the many different uploaded versions of a song, before they can create a new style. What Studio does at this point is the reason this review has any stars. It allows the user to, category by category, create an appealing visual and audio effects template that can be applied to any song. After, however, the inability to simply save, retrieve and edit takes away stars. Opening a style does not put the original version in edit mode. It creates a new style altogether. Even if only minor changes are needed, the app will not allow the user to open, edit and save the original Style. It forces users to create a new version of the style-requiring them to again define a name, tags and icon but allowing them to exactly match the original. This creates a maintenance burden on the user as they have to find and remove styles that may appear to be duplicates but are instead revisions of the original. Though potentially named the same, and perhaps created using an existing recording, updates are not applied to existing recording versions using the style. And despite their role in creating a style, previously recorded performances can never have that style applied within Smule. After publishing a style the app only allows the user to create a new style or sing using the style they just created rather than returning them to the app’s initial landing page so they can choose their next action The user must close the app to get back to the initial landing page. So, lots of potential but difficult to get to by casual users.

Keeps Crashing :(. Hello!! I have tried to make a Smule style so many times, and every time I’m half way done, the app crashes!! It’s time consuming!! The idea behind the Smule styles is cool. The app just needs some work... -Ally (@ally_marleyrose_)
