Dungeon of the Endless: Apogee App Reviews

Dungeon of the Endless: Apogee [Games] App Description & Overview

What is dungeon of the endless: apogee app? Dungeon of the Endless: Apogee is the award-winning Rogue-Like Dungeon-Defense game, in which you and your team of heroes must protect the generator of your crashed ship while exploring an ever-expanding dungeon, all while facing waves of monsters and special events as you try to find your way out. The Apogee Edition of Dungeon Of The Endless includes the full game and five DLCs.

WHAT’S BEHIND THE DOOR?

A few hundred condemned criminals were being shipped to the Auriga system on board the prison hulk “Success”. While this was presented as a chance to earn back their place in society by working hard for the common good, they understood that in fact they would be slave labour, sent to colonize an unexplored planet. All they knew about Auriga Prime was what the probes told them: it had water, temperate zones, plant life, and plenty of metals in the crust.

In fact, the planet Auriga once hosted a major settlement of the galaxy-travelling ancestors known as the Endless. In addition, the planet was still orbited by a functioning (and well cloaked) defensive system, which sprang eagerly to life upon the arrival of the Success. Within a few minutes, the ship was nothing but a few large chunks of metal falling toward the planet.

Luckily, every set of holding cells also functioned as an escape pod, so the ship let itself disintegrate and the surviving prisoners fell bruised but (temporarily) alive and (momentarily) safe to the planet below. Safe, that is, until they realized that they had crashed through some sort of Endless facility, all the way down to a sub-basement so deep and ancient it might as well be called a dungeon…

Dungeon of the Endless: Apogee Comments & Reviews 2022

- Great game But…

This game is miles deep and a lot of fun for strategists. I have been playing it non stop for weeks since I downloaded it. This is perhaps a testament to to how good the game is, because I’ve noticed that based on reviews from players who have the pc version ( or any other version) this is by far an inferior port. Still a lot of fun though and has has not stopped me from enjoying it. With hard to see visuals, (doesn’t help that I’m playing on an iPhone instead of a tablet) but also extremely annoying text glitches during the elevator sequences, we need a few updates. The text sometime is one letter wide for some reason and is pretty much impossible to read (it’s also way too small). Developers, please fix the messed up text. Also this version is missing the Australium content, would be nice to see that in a new update too. *update to review* There are issues with the construction screen that really need fixing. The major module screen doesn’t display the Med module if you have unlocked all the others (maybe because it’s lower on the screen and there is no way to scroll the window). Please fix as it’s pretty frustrating to not be able to use all the items In the ge.

- Absolutely love this game - but one bug

I’ll continue to support these devs as they make great games. This title is extremely unique and I can’t wait for the successor. There is a bug on the iPad mini (6th gen) when you are researching you cannot see the science cost for the first item as the last item covers the price. The only other thing that I don’t like is when zooming back into the playable view it always goes back to where the camera was and not the room you are pinch-to-zooming on. Easy 5 stars if those are addressed

- The RNG alone ruins everything

This game definitely hooked me in. Many playthroughs later and I’m still into it. Amazing music, great characters, etc is what still has me trying to finally win a game, but it honestly feels like I’m likely to never win due to the randomly generated elements of the game making or breaking my chances. The top floor is easily where the RNG matters the most. There’s rooms with no defense options and with limited power to the rooms it’s a huge issue and can throw away all those hours of getting to the top in an instant. Enemies are also an RNG issue. My recent top floor attempt was ruined mainly because the game kept spamming those stupid module destroying enemies in mass so the weapons meant to deal with them couldn’t keep up which exhausted my supplies. It feels like skill doesn’t matter because I’ve got a good handle on the game now but the idiotic randomness negates all that. I’m probably gonna stop trying soon because it’s all up to chance. And a permadeath game that lasts hours just to end simply because of a little bad luck is a waste of time. Edit:Finally won a game. The escape floor spawned close and I managed to barely make it with 2 of my 4 team members dying. Really just came down to luck, which is the main issue.

- What is this? A game for ants??

I preordered this game because I love roguelike games. I really wanted to like this one and spent last two days trying to get into it.. I just couldn’t do it. First, the tutorial is atrocious and barely introduces you to the game. But my biggest complaint is that the text in this game is really, really small. It’s impossible to read some of it (like merchant prices) and there is no option to change the text size. I do not wear glasses and this is the first time I’ve struggled this much to read game text. There are a few other design choice that made me throw my hands up, but the most annoying the ability to select only one crew member or all of them. Sometimes I wanted to leave one slow crew member in a choke point and use the others to explore and open rooms but I found myself accidentally selecting all which kept moving my slow, ranged character away from his position. This game has potential, but needs a couple updates to realize it’s potential.

- Very Entertaining

So I’m intrigued by the minimalist storyline, atmosphere, the dynamic dungeon settings and layouts. The progress system and character building and design seems solid as well. Great use of screen real estate for the UI, but....while importing this from PC into mobile format, it seems that no consideration was given to the text size on smaller forms (iPhone 11 Pro Max). 70% of all text in the game is way too SMALL (see what I did there?). And the other 30% requires squinting. And I get it- it looks awesome on an iPad (I own one as well), but please developers- on your next update: include an option to enlarge fonts or a zoom-in ability (tap or pinch) on fields that show texts. My eyes hurt. All the same, thank you for this great port, team.

- One of the Best Roguelikes Ever Made

I’ll just cut to the chase: DotE is one of the best Roguelikes ever made (and it also takes place in and sends the stage for one of the most lore-rich and well fleshed-out fantasy/sci fi universes ever created, if that’s something that interests you). Also, this port quality now with the recent QoL updates is pure gold. I’ve been playing my iPad and iPhone both and having a blast. This will permanently remain on any iOS device I own for the indefinite future. So why are you still reading this? Just buy this game already! And Amplitude, please keep the hits coming!! I’m looking forward to Humankind, but cannot wait for Endless Dungeon!

- So addicting

This game didn’t start off as a great port, but constant work has made it quite playable on my iPad mini. It takes a bit to learn, but once you wrap your mind around the mechanics, it’s quite fun and one of the better strategy games around for iOS. Certain controls are unintuitive however. At first I struggled on equipping items. I didn’t realize there was a double press involved. And I wish there was a select all heroes button instead of the double click method they used. I have more than once accidentally ruined a heroes operator status or accidentally moved every hero beside the one I was intending to.

- What’s behind the door?

This port is well done. I was a little worried about how intuitive the touch controls would be on mobile. Couldn’t be happier! This truly is one of my favorite games of all time. I fell in love with it in PC when it released, I don’t even know how many hours I’ve put into this game across PC, console, and now mobile. The soundtrack is top tier, the art style is dripping with atmosphere, and the gameplay is innovative and addictive. The risk and reward system is excellently executed. Thank you Amplitude, for making this game. Now I have a few doors I know are waiting to be opened.

- Faithful Port of the PC Version

I’ve played this game extensively on Steam and immediately pre-ordered it when I saw it was being released on iOS. I was available to play it the exact moment I received the alert it was ready to download, so at that time I dumped about an hour of gameplay into it. It is indeed a faithful port of the PC version, which I’m quite happy about. I think this title will do well on the mobile platform, though I think the screen maneuvering can be done a bit better. Perhaps a more fluid, free-form panning of the screen would suffice rather than the current controls.

- Good game, but wait to buy until bugs are addressed

Good gameplay. Nice balanced strategy. The tutorial really doesn’t help though, I had to go find online guides to figure it out, so be advised that you will need to learn it elsewhere. The save game system is highly frustrating. I’ve probably lost about 6 games so far where it erased my progress and dropped me back to the start of the level, due to either game crashes, or pausing the game for a bit to do something else and iOS closes the app in the background automatically. When I come back to this app, I get a nice reminder to not close it while it’s saving. (Which I did not do) If you aren’t willing to sit down and play through an entire level at once, then don’t do it as it will be frustrating to lose your progress. The auto-save game needs to happen every room, not every level. I have an iPhone 12 Pro, so it’s not old technology causing the problems. Anyway, wait until they address this bug along with the problems on the research screen layout. Otherwise it would actually be pretty fun.

- Glitches

The game is great and challenging but I am having some frustrating glitches. I have unlocked all the ships and played with them. I can even see my high scores with each in the journal, even though I randomly got locked out of most of my ships. After spending hours accomplishing these achievements I am quite annoyed!!!! Please developer, fix this soon! I want to continue to love this game. UPDATE: I am still waiting on a fix. It seems like it affects the Sanitary Pod and Refreezorator Pod. I just spent even more time unlocking both again and once more got locked out! Once I complete another game it tells me I unlocked a pod I already have unlocked and then locks me out of other pods. This is incredibly frustrating. Does anyone read these reviews?

- Old IPad version

This game downgraded from the old iPad version that was taken off the AppStore. You can no longer move say 2 out of the 4 characters in your team, rather you can only move all of them or one of them. Also the change from tapping two fingers to power a room to pressing and holding to power a room is tedious because I find myself accidentally unpowering rooms when I’m just trying to move the camera, which is a little too zoomed in on the IPad and especially compared to the old iPad version. The game itself is not bad, but the changes that were made to it considering the other version of the game make this version a lot more tedious that I’d rather play the old version right now.

- Needs better UI Scaling for Text

The game is fun, however trying to read half the text in the game using your phone (iPhone 12 Pro) is beyond impossible. Not to say all test is this way but a good chunk of it is. For example trying to read the description of a character by holding down my finger on the selected character displays text I literally could not read... The thing is, it’s not that it wouldn’t fit on the screen, it’s that they didn’t bother to scale it appropriately. I’m not saying all aspects of the game are like that, but if you plan on reading what is actually going on half the time then expect to be disappointed. I will change this review if they resolve the poor text scaling.

- Love it or hate it?

I think this is a game that you will love or hate. It’s very addictive and fun for me at least. The only real negative is that you can’t save. And this goes from slightly annoying early on to a very big negative late in the game. The strategy is deeper than you initially think and it takes some time to perfect it, but it doesn’t feel like wasted time. I’d like in this game to a sort of cheap hybrid between Warcraft and Diablo though nowhere near as good as either of those. Still, unique and fun.

- Great game, not great port

I’ve played and completed DoTE on the PC years ago. I was excited to play it again on a mobile device. But at the moment, this is not a good port. Overall it seems like they added touch controls and got it to build on mobile, but put no effort into reworking the game for mobile. For instance, the UI is not scaled for small screens at all. Text is barely readable it’s so small, and icons on equipment have just been down scaled so they look like muddy blobs and you can’t tell what the icon is supposed to be. You can zoom out to the map, but can’t zoom in, so your little heroes get mobbed by hordes of indistinguishable enemy pixels. You can’t see if the enemies are ones that attack heroes or structures it’s just a blob. The hot buttons for your heroes skills are also fiddly to pop out and use. I think this could be all fixed with more work, but right now I would say buy this on PC not mobile.

- Font size

So far I love it, I don’t have a console or pc, so my iPhone X is where i game. I love how much depth there is, but the fact I can’t scale font or UI to read what things do is tough. Maybe consider in a future update being able to scale font, will change to 5 with larger text. Great game

- Aersome game

The art work is amazing I have had so much fun playing this game on PC and got excited when it was ported to mobile. My only complaint and it is a big complaint that should be a easy fix, is that there is no pause when health is low for a character. Because of perma death it is devastating for a game when a character dies and it is such a easy mistake to make. Please implement a pause on low health.

- Terrible port of excellent game

The developers clearly had ambitions to "improve" the UI, but the results are uneven at best. UI elements are unnecessarily enlarged, but art seems to be the same size? Comparing to the previous port this is a major step back in usability. Elements that used to be perfectly legible are actually worse here somehow. (Weapon type icons on characters are a blurry, illegible mess.) Nearly every change I can see seems like a step backwards from the original UX. Also, the unskippable studio cards when you launch the game are hugely annoying.

- One of my favorite games of all time

I’ve played a lot of this on PC. Playing on iPhone and iPad is great except for a few things: Health bars are too small, I find it very hard to see current health at a glance, perhaps making the health bars 3x thicker would help Healing/selecting a crew member being on the same button is rough on a small screen.

- Amazing

This game is a really unique piece. Fantastic music, just enough but not overbearing quirky dialog and a solid gameplay mechanic. It’s just slightly lacking on content however I feel with a few more updates this will be over the top awesome

- Awesome game but broken at launch

You can't read some text and it's impossible to see some item symbol? Ok fair enough. But not being able to move characters zoomed out and how often they accidentally move from zooming or are selected when they don't touch them breaks the game. And urgent call doesn't let me recruit anyone they're all "incompatible" with the ship. Please patch. The old version crashed this runs great but needs bug fixes!!

- Could be great

So much potential but the tutorial system is one of the worst I have ever had the displeasure to use. Fix the tutorial.

- Amazing game

One of the most unique games ive played. Dote really keep you on your toes and pushes you to keep going. Has big “one more floor” energy. Great on tablet or larger sized iPhones. Thanks for bringing this classic back to mobile.

- Tiny, illegible text

This game labors under the impression that I am viewing my iPhone through a microscope. While this may be taken as a sign of my age, as I am in my late 20’s (a gaming octogenarian), I do not see how even a “whipper snapper” could be expected to read the game’s text. There are neutrinos bigger than the character selection screen’s font. Seriously, how did this get a green-light for release on iPhone? Maybe if you already know how to play this game from other versions, I guess go ahead and burn your cash for a mobile version. Regrettably, this was my first attempt, and I’m sad to see it spoiled. I have asked for a refund.

- i like this

ive played defense based games but this one is imo unique. Has a fair difficulty, but once u realize how the flow of the gameplay works you’ll also figure out why the game is fun :D

- 1star for making me pay for the same game twice

I was trying to re-download dungeon of the endless from the purchase I made over a year ago and stumbled upon this. I assumed I wouldn't be charged $8 for a game I had previously purchased but I sadly disappointed. Remember home gamers - buying a game in Apple store always risks they delist and relist it forcing you to pay twice.

- Impossible to play on the phone

Cannot recommend for phones or small tablets. The game was not designed for a small screen and unfortunately no effort was made to improve playability or accessibility. Being able to zoom in to text or to have text boxes enlarge when selected would improve this dramatically. Might be playable on a larger format iPad.

- Works great finally on iPhone

I used to play on iPad a couple years ago glad it’s finally on iPhone. Great game tons of fun a lot to learn. Definitely recommend

- Where’s multiplayer?

The only reason I bought this in the first place was because the multiplayer for this game on PC is nonexistent, and maybe bringing it to mobile would allow more people to play together, but the option isn’t even there :/ fat bummer

- Text and zoom

The size of the text is inexcusable. Also, no ability to zoom in or out. Game’s been in the upcoming games feature for months and this is how they deliver it? Pathetic. EDIT: after update text is still completely unreadable unless you are using a magnifying glass. Uninstalling. I’d throw it away if possible.

- Why’d I pay to wait through 30s of ads every launch?

This ain’t a genesis, stop pretending that it is. The game should launch way faster and stop making me watch through these silly ads for teams I’ve never heard of before nor ever will again later—I don’t care, I want to play the game I paid for.

- Perfect except one thing

It’s a great game all around however it gives off the feel that it was originally meant to be for pc but was changed to mobile for example one of the most key features selecting characters sometimes you need to select just two or so characters and to do so is very hard to do it’s still doable due to the pause option however without the pause option (which will be something you’ll deal with later on) it’s very difficult to do another thing is the map it’s a good thing and bad thing bad because sometimes when I go do pull up the map I end up selecting a character and moving them in the process these are some problems that seemed to be caused simply for the fact that there’s no mouse it’s the same with the game (faster then light) and (dead cells) it doesn’t feel like a problem until you further into the game or have something to compare it to I mean I’m not trying to complain so here’s a way it could be fixed for the map add a option in settings so you can select if you want to access the map with a button icon or of if you want to use the hand gesture to select as for the characters select give a option to chose the characters you want to pick when you double tap or something of that nature it can be to where you can toggle these settings on and off in settings so it’s fits better again I’m not trying to be critical as the game has just been released but this game has serious potential I mean it’s already good but it’s the small things that makes the difference in the long run this is all assuming this game might get updated in the future and is not the final version is it is the final version and there will be no more updates the so be it currently I’m not judging this as a full game but one that might be updated in the future for whatever reason but other then that it’s a good game.

- Would be 5 stars if text was scaled

Great game. Please allow the user to increase text size. Currently, it is unreadable (too small). I will rate as 5 stars if the problem is fixed.

- Please fix overlapping research UI on iPad

Love the game but inexcusable this bug has been unaddressed for so long.

- Chinese?

need chinese

- Great game small text

Playing on a lm iPhone 12 the text is just far too small. Please add a setting to make the font bigger.

- amazing port

Love it thank u

- Pure awesome sauce!

One of the best iPad games ever!

- Awesome game, but annoying visual bugs on iPad Pro

Great game with an excellent amount of depth and variety to each run and an absolutely outstanding art style and soundtrack. Don’t be fooled by the price tag, this is a full fledged, microtransaction-free roguelike, with a very interesting gameplay loop that immediately put me in the “just one more run” mindset. On a 2021 11 inch iPad Pro however, there are some annoying visual glitches. When a horizontal “list” of items is shown (for example each character’s stats, or available research items at a science crystal) the rightmost item will often awkwardly “wrap” to the next row. This is particularly egregious in the research crystal where the “wrapped” item will actually obscure the cost of the first option in the list! I suspect this is very much not intentional, but it’s had quite a negative impact on an otherwise flawless mobile port. Easy 5 stars if this bug were fixed.

- Great game

Above expectations

- dr wiggles doesnt know what a rogue-like is apparently. noob.

amazing game. get good.

- Port of a great game-but with GUI issues

Updated for v1.03: 5 stars for the PC game, and would be 5 for iOS port if not for GUI / interface issues. Needs another pass or two in the play testing department. V1.03 brought needed quality of life improvements but one of the biggest issues remains: it is incredibly frustrating to select a character and find them on the map. 1.03 completely removed the ability to zoom to a character, which is an absolutely essential function! Double tap and long press do nothing. I’m sending feedback directly to devs. Be warned, this port still needs help.

TransferWise 💸

- Quality of life update.

This is a great game!… but now with this update!… it is a great port as well! Highly recommend for all rogue like fans and even to all that want to revisit it after all this time!… it’s still that good!

- Great game

Great game, a lot of things to unlock, random generated rooms keeps things interesting. Hopefully there is a cloud save later on, accidentally remove the game and I have to redo everything.

- Update problems

What on earth happened to the UI? Apart from a few bugs the games was basically playable but now everything is shoved in up your face and the text isn’t displaying properly.

- Still good

Giving 5 stars but still see the need for some fixes, especially broken/incomplete text and the lost défense pod when you try to select them behind a generator or a hero standing there. Other than that, like the joke, the difficulty, it’s doesn’t feel like a phone game and it’s a lot of fun.

- As good as the PC version

The control is clunky when selecting characters and their skills. But it can be mitigated by pause and select. After getting used to the control, it is as addicting as the PC version. Great rogue lite game.

- Love it

This is IMO one of the best games you can get for your iPad

- Great game but still buggy

Feels different than the original one. Not sure how I feel about it but I’ll give it a shot Still feels like there’s bugs to squash. One that’s pretty obvious for me is at the research crystal there’s 4 options, but rather than having all 4 on the same line, the 4th one gets punted to the line below the first 3 and gets hidden under the close button. Not game breaking but still not to the level of polish expected, Especially for something you have to look at to progress (maybe if it was something you only have to look at once in a while... not sure how this was missed since you have to look at this if you play it at all) Will update as I go through it.

- Some bugs

The pet girl is bugged. When you tame a monster it just sits in the room you tamed it in. Never really follows you around and it cant die. When you tame a second monster while its alive it just stands there. Other monsters are aggrod to it but cant attack it. So they just freeze lol. Other than some bugs like this and the small font that no one can read on the phone. Its not bad

- Love the game however no sound?!

Having issue with no audio!

- Needs more frame rate!

Game really needs to have a frame rate option! Not as smooth as it should be!

- Great game but lacking in UI

Highly recommend playing this game, if not here, then on another console/PC. It is a unique take on tower defence, rogue lite, and RTS genres. However, the current mobile version as of this review is a bit difficult to see/control. The UI text and buttons are small and hard to read/press, especially on phone screens, and there is no way to resize the UI. There could also be some QoL changes such as selecting and moving multiple heroes (the current implementation is you either move one or all heroes). I also find that I accidentally turn off power to rooms as I’m scrolling - a visual indicator and a longer long-press time could help. Overall, this game has great potential and I look forward to it becoming better with some minor tweaks.
