ZOE Health Study App Description & Overview

What is zoe health study app? Help critical research into major health conditions by reporting how you feel each day in the app, even if you feel well.

Join over 800,000 people in supporting scientists to help our national health services fight the biggest health issues of our generation. Millions joined ZOE to fight COVID-19 with their mobile phones from home. Why stop there?

The ZOE Health Study is an evolution of the ZOE COVID Study, which has data quoted in thousands of news stories and published in dozens of scientific papers. We’ve already proven that our approach can rapidly advance scientific understanding and public knowledge.

With our technology and dedicated Contributors, our research will look at how altering your day-to-day behaviour could impact your immune system and reduce the risk of developing major diseases from cancer to dementia. You will be directly helping us to develop an early warning system for disease detection which will help to save lives.

This app (formerly known as the ZOE COVID Study) allows you to help others but does not give health advice. If you need health advice please visit the NHS website.

DATA

The data that you give us for our research into diseases other than COVID-19 will be restricted to King’s College London and ZOE only unless you opt-in to share it more widely in the future.

Your data is protected under GDPR, and can only be used for the purpose that you consent to.

We’ll never sell your data and we’ll be transparent about developments we make to products that advance human health. Please read our privacy policy for more information.

HEALTH INFORMATION

You will be asked to share some general information, such as your age, and some health information, such as whether you have certain diseases.

DAILY SYMPTOM TRACKING

We will ask you to set up your ‘Usual Self’, this is your personal health baseline and will indicate any symptoms you may frequently suffer from. By telling us how you feel each day and reporting any changes in your usual symptoms, we will be able to relay valuable data to scientists.

ADDITIONAL RESEARCH STUDIES

We’ll conduct voluntary participant studies to see how lifestyle changes might work for you as individuals. We’ll play back insights from the studies to the community that will enable you to live your healthiest life and reduce your risk of developing major diseases.

In-depth studies into issues such as menopause and cancer will uncover detailed new findings to advance our understanding of major conditions and diseases. This app is designed and built by ZOE Global Limited, a health science start-up, in partnership with doctors and scientists at King's College London.

Works fine, could be MUCH simpler. The app is fine, it’s not a big deal to enter the data daily and I want to do my part. But it’s really irritating when you know there’s a much simpler interface possible yet every day I have to hit the same series of buttons. There should be ONE button that says “It’s me, everything is exactly the same as last time, thanks and goodbye“. Please add that button. Of course you’d need another button that says something’s changed, but you know that. In the meantime I’ll try to soldier on.

Everyone should download this app.... It only takes a couple of minutes to signup and it takes less than a minute of your time daily to help the medical community gain valuable insights into the novel coronavirus. While I have been fortunate enough to not get infected during the pandemic thus far, I have already had family members get extremely ill and I my best friend/soul sister passed away from COVID-19 this past spring. So anything I can do to aid doctors and researchers in being able to understand this virus in greater detail, of course I will do my part. Please also share this app with friends and family members around the world because the more people that contribute, the sooner COVID-19 can be fully understood which is half the battle in being able to get this pandemic under control.

Easy app; glad to support science. I find the app very easy to use, but have one suggestion for the days when “I’m not feeling quite right”. A week ago, I developed acute, severe shoulder pain. It was bad enough to go to Urgent Care and get checked out. While I waited to be seen, I started to fill out the app. Of course I checked the box saying I wasn’t feel great. I expected the series of questions, but I was quite surprised to see no option to let you know that whatever was wrong was in no way related to Covid. I finally quit answering questions because I couldn’t find an option that allowed me to be truthful. After I was back home with a diagnosis of severe rotator cuff calcification tendinitis, I finally found an option that said something like: have seen medical professionals and was not diagnosed with Covid. It would have been nice to see an option far earlier in the questions like: am seeking medical support for ortho, chronic, or other issue not related to (list of C-19 symptoms).

Great app, but needs a few more things. App is easy to use, I spent one minute updating how I feel everyday it’s that quick. But it would be nice if I could also write about if I went outside that day to run errands or something. I would also have liked to add more health conditions, if I have something that’s not the regular high risk category it could still make Covid more dangerous or complex, such as blood disorders or autoimmune diseases, things not usually considered the average high risk pre-existing conditions but can become data points as we learn more about Covid.

Simple, fast and important!. This app is so very important for everyone to use. It takes just a few seconds each day - less than a minute to report. I report for three members of my family daily, which takes less than a minute. If ALL of us would contribute just one minute a day to report how we are feeling, we could conquer this virus! This app enables a study of where the virus is and how to contain it's spread. We can beat this thing if we will simply join together in the effort. Imagine America safe again. It can happen if we all do our part. Please get this app and help yourself and us all!

Use this app to identify clusters before they become overwhelming to medical professionals. This app took 5 minutes to make my profile, and 2-3 minutes at most a day at MOST to record my symptoms. If all neighbors used this, we’d have an easy way to identify the number of people coming down with symptoms that may or may not be Covid I leave that for the scientific people to evaluate. What’s helpful to us as a community is if we’re seeing a spread within the community that we might not be talks to each other about, or perhaps we live far enough away we’ve never met, this app can identify areas of concern where Covid infections might be rising and identify it for us before it grows out of control. I’m using this bks I know there are many dedicated professionals trying many different ways to slow the spread of this virus and this makes sense to me. I’ll try anything thrown at me to help myself my family my friends and neighbors through this as safely as possible. The more people to download and use this app, the more helpful it is to those trying to identify future “hotspots “ before they become hotspots. Please take a few minutes of your day and use. It could save you or a loved one by early identification of the virus in your community. Thanks and stay healthy everyone!

Nurse Practitioner. I am contributing to this because I had wondered if any type of research was being done to gather the different symptoms. The only clues I could get about the range of symptoms was from occasional news articles descriptions. I had had a stem cell infusion 12 months ago , and I believe that made my range of symptoms different. I had 2 negative nasal swabs. I felt the stem cells may have made my body’s reaction different. I had nothing but a fever for 3 weeks. Then I began having some respiratory symptoms. My family felt I should stop isolating from them. Somehow the nasal swabs did not pick up the RNA to make my tests positive. But, I didn’t want to take the chance of infecting my family.

Simple. Great tool to track your symptoms. Some symptoms that are occurring as a result of COVID you are unaware of until you fill out the questionnaire. You can tell that this app was very well thought out leaving no stone unturned. Thank you for being a part of the solution and avoiding the political pitfalls associated with this virus. I am a Marine veteran & a staunch republican. Shame on both parties for turning this into a circus. One side forcing people to get vaccinated another spreading misinformation associated with the vaccine. There is no honor in the way each party has conducted themselves

A very worthy cause!. I have found this site very helpful. The app is super easy to install and all you have to do is answer a few questions each day so the medical community can track our city’s exposure to COVID-19. A few more questions could also be helpful like tracking whether we have been around people who either have the virus or have been exposed; basic habits that could expose one’s self. Other than that, I find it interesting and it takes no time at all to check in each day.

A safe, easy way to help fight Covid-19. I came across the joint research program sponsored by Mass General Hospital, Harvard, Stamford, and King’s College because I’ve supported other medical research studies. I’m naturally cautious about sharing data, but the research program & app follow very clear rules that have honed by decades of reputable medical research. The details are on any of the primary partners’ websites and detail how all data is protected, using encryption, anonymizing data results, and requiring research partners to agree to follow the same data protections. The app is very easy to use, requires little time, and is a small way (aside from also staying home) to help in the fight against this deadly virus.

Great & Improvement request. This is great idea and everyone should contribute. If it could be improve like going back to some answers, specially on day one, to the original questions. I overlooked some answers about some research volunteer work that I did at the hospital. I am fine now, but not sure if I have gotten exposed to it, since I had some very sharp pain symptoms that lasted a second or two, for only 3 days, hard to explain. The app could improve by adding more futures/ past recent symptoms such as the one I described, that are not recorded on the app. (Or being able to go back to answers those original questions)

Good Information to Collect/ Trouble with App. I have been reporting everyday on Zoe since the beginning of the app and the COVID pandemic. Recently I have had to delete and download the app to get it to work right. When I start to report I can only go so far before being blocked at “report a new vaccination”. I have reported my latest vaccination a couple of months ago and have no new vaccinations. The app won’t let me go to the next screen until Input in a date. Frustrating. I have not found contact information to report the problem so I am hoping Zoe reads this comment. It is a good app for a good cause.

Needs customer support. The intent of this app is terrific. It’s well set up and user friendly. Unfortunately. There have been glitches, and no one to report them up to get them fixed. The most frequent is not knowing if it’s actually recording all data. I report faithfully every day. Sometimes I open my account and it says I last reported 2 days ago, as it did tonight. A couple of weeks ago, it said I last reported several days ago. So no way to know if my entries were recorded. I searched to find a contact. Finally found three names, one a Dr Chan in MA. I called the office and left a message about it with my name and contact information, but never heard back. In addition to teaching, they should be getting feedback on accuracy and there’s to way to do it at the user end.

Great app. I have just been participating for 4 days now but I’m still happy to continue. I feel it is important work to do. I have forwarded to several friends in my area in hopes they will participate since we are on the upward curve. I am a healthcare worker who works remotely for now. I have seen an increase in the number of cases presenting to my hospital and see that it is really effecting a large number of the Latino community and these individuals are very sick when they seek treatment. Usually slow to care for all the myriad of reasons underserved populations seek care late. And they are young 18-50 yr age groups and very ill. Most needing hospitalization. So we must do what we can to stop the spread. And this my very small part in helping us as a country move forward. Thanks for your help keep up the great work. And adding additional questions as others have suggested would garner more info.

Please Download and Contribute. I think many are able to understand physical ways to give back that assist the medical sciences. We applaud those who donate plasma, organs, bone marrow, and blood. We may even understand the concept of being in a drug trial or donating our antibodies for research. However, my own personal experience trying to share this app with my community is that they did not have the same level of competency and preparedness to understand the value of social inquiry to the medical field. Some folks I asked to participate responded with fear the app could record their personal lives or track their whereabouts. Advocating for use of this app was an eye opening experience for me as someone with a graduate degree from a social research institution of how far we need to go in bringing the public into competency with social research methods. I would not have downloaded this app and would not be participating if the researchers were not vetted, the methods were unsound, or the institutions were not reputable. If that means anything to anyone, I hope it encourages you to please voluntarily participate with the scientific community to help figure this virus out faster than it figures us out. Thank you to those donating their time and symptom feedback for this important work.

Medical/Health information. I love this app and commend those doing the research for this. I would gladly contribute more information on a daily basis if it would help now and in the future. I am not able to contribute in some of the vaccine trials or I would do that, not unwilling but did not qualify due to BP. I have shared this app with so many people and have been surprised at reasons they did not want to use it, most did not want to share their information or take a few minutes of their time to do it. I miss days and wish there was a way to go back and fill in missed days.

Something meaningful that I can do to help!. I was watching the news and caught a quick glimpse of this app after a doctor from Mass General Hospital was being interviewed and I quickly went online and downloaded it and started self reporting my symptoms while on a 14 day self quarantine just having returned from A week vacation in London. The Imperial College of London was also working on this tracking app so I really thought it was good to join in! (Seeing as. Probably caught it in London) The app helped me feel more secure about what symptoms are common or some even uncommon associated with the COVID 19. I did report a fair number or them and am now feeling as if I have recovered at home so I thank the researchers for allowing us regular folks to share and self monitor ourselves so that during this time alone I did not necessarily feel completely separate and apart from the rest of the human race and even felt good about having been able to lend a hand and play a bit part in helping those much smarter than me to get a little closer to understanding and ultimately solving this global problem.

Great Research Tool. From an end user perspective, this app is a great tool for researchers. It gives them the ability to safely collect data from huge pool of participants, geographically. It does have its limitations where certain demographics of potential participants are concerned. Some of those limitations are offset, hopefully, by giving participants the ability to report for additional multiple people under individual profiles, though I wonder exactly how effective it may be in reaching those who are living in poverty and/or living in rural areas with little to no Internet access. Anyway, the app is extremely easy to use. Set up and daily use for end users is simple and fast, and I’m personally grateful for the daily push reminders. The only thing I’m confused about is, I thought I read somewhere that it would ask questions about the participants’ nutrition, diet, and exercise, but it did not prompt me to supply that information and I have not seen any place where I could provide it. Overall though, I think this is a great app with a great purpose. Thank you!

JessisuNP. As a health care provider who is unable to work right now (due to a car accident and trauma to my brain) I feel like this system gives me an opportunity to help in a way that I am able. It is frustrating to have no access to my gym and be unable to sit down at the coffee shop I love. I can’t imagine how terrible everything feels to those who have symptoms, or those who are positive, or those who have lost someone. I honor the health care workers who have dedicated themselves to being on the the front lines.

Please do you part!. Everyone can help play a small part in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic by downloading this app and encouraging others to do the same. It is only though the collective efforts of every citizen and resident of this country that we can effectively as a nation slow the spread of COVID-19. Like social distancing, contact tracing is a proven method. It’s simple, just download the app and make sure your Bluetooth is switched on. Report how you’re feeling each day. Keep your phone with you when around other people or in public spaces. You will get an alert if anyone you’ve been in contact with has tested positive. This early advantage can save lives and prevent further spread of the disease. Help researchers better understand, track, and contain COVID-19. Every person counts.

A worthy research effort, but missing a few things. First, I’m glad there is an app developed for tracking & research of COVID-19. It was simple to set up an account & allowed me to also add a profile for my 90 year old mother. I found the process easy to log in daily with my symptoms (feeling well thankfully at this point). I DO recommend people sign up as it could be helpful in understanding more about the disease & how it spreads. However, they are missing some questions/info that I feel should be asked & included: 1) It should be tracking your potential exposure by monitoring what you’ve been doing/ where you’ve been (I.e., at home, getting outside/exercising, shopping, visiting friends/family, going to work, social distancing or gathering in groups, etc), 2) include symptoms such as lower grade fever and loss of taste & smell 2) asking more specifically when/where you traveled 3)city/county where you live 4) whether you’ve been wearing mask while shopping/going out in public 5) if you do suspect you have COVID-19, have you consulted with a doctor or self-quarantined. Overall, it’s simple & may provide some useful data and worth participating.

Feedback. I have been using the covid19 symptom tracker daily for about a week. Easy peasy. Happy to provide data for science. Two issues from today’s experience. 1) Today I was given the option to take a survey of lifestyle activities, which I chose to do. However, part way through, I got stuck. (I believe it was the diet and alcohol consumption page.) I answered all the questions, but the app wouldn’t let me proceed, indicating I needed to complete the questions. I reviewed all my answers on that page and found none unanswered and saw no specific indication of which question/answer was not satisfactory. So I backed out of the survey. 2) I was a little dismayed at the options to either choose to (participate in the survey) or (opt not to AND don’t ask me again). How about an option to not do now but ask me later.

Lysa1rn. I have only been on here a few days . I think overall it is a user friendly app. I would like to be able to go back and see if I put all my important info in , but I can’t see that I can do that . There are a few questions, for example fatigue, that I feel there could be an answer in between the 2 choices given . I have shared this hoping more people in my smaller community will see the importance of this . I missed out on another similar “ study ” following Covid pts long term trying to learn more to gain knowledge , to be able to pinpoint treatment , ect . Thank you for all of you that are working on this , it’s so appreciated!

Daily notifications not working. I think it’s important to do our part to contribute to research and our understanding of COVID-19. I have been using this app since the beginning and find it easy to use. I recently stopped receiving the daily notifications. I’ve checked my settings to make sure notifications are on. Without the notifications several days may pass before I remember to report my symptoms/no symptoms in the app. Looks like other people are having the same issue. I also upgraded my iPhone X to IOS 14.

After having COVID this app puts my mind at ease. After having COVID I rushed my recovery because I felt physically fine but emotionally I’m a wreck because everyone at work knew I was positive when I got back to work and now I’m having panic attacks when someone won’t listen to what I’m saying because they asked too many questions and didn’t listen to my answer. (I told work they could tell people so that they knew why I was gone and that was a mistake). I just feel like now when I put on my mask and have to go indoors people are looking at me like I’m crazy but I’ve had and done want to get it again and I’m a healthcare worker so I want to help others more than myself. (Super bad paranoia right now). And every morning I get up I still run through the symptoms of COVID so this app makes me feel like I’m not crazy cause I’ll hopefully help someone else!

Stay safe & help track Covid-19. I’m no scientist but I received this APP from a knowledgeable friend who is one. So I’m confident, but then another friend wrote, “What about the guy who gave it to your scientific friend?” I responded “There is no way to know that.” So I agree with a previous reviewer that getting people to sign-up and then to contribute their experience will be difficult. I went further into the site and investigated the research and concluded if this is some nefarious scam they sure went to a whole lot of trouble. I’m in compliance with the modest request to open the APP and report daily.

Easy to use but …. The app is super easy to use but I think it needs to include additional dataset requests. Given the rate of new cases, adding datasets for testing availability, known incidents of exposure including where that exposure occurred ( work, church, school etc), and what protective measures were being utilized when the exposure occurred (ie mask, social distancing, hand sanitizer, vaccination without any additional measures etc). The only truly accurate way to disseminate false information regarding this virus is through data collection from individual personal experience. Have you lost a friend or family member to Covid/Covid complications, have you had a family member or friend test positive? In the area we live doctors and nurses aren’t reporting information accurately due to personal and political biases. I’ve been told by countless people that their doctors & healthcare professionals have told them not to get vaccinated, that this isn’t that big of a deal, etc and I experienced the same commentary from emergency room staff in two separate facilities in two separate states , both small town hospitals in dominant politically conservative areas, even though their hospitals are at or over capacity with Covid patients who are critically ill. The line between political beliefs and scientific evidence skewed to support the political belief over scientific evidence to the contrary.

Is this relevant to the US?. I have been doing this daily since March but may stop soon. The app and associated website are UK-oriented and I haven’t seen or read any sign that the data collected from the US is being analyzed by anybody. It used to return an estimate of current infections for my county but not any more. The only US data on the website is presented so poorly it lacks all credibility. A color coded map of the US purports to estimate current infection rates by state (states are referred to as “areas” and “regions”). But the color index ranges don’t match the results you get when you click on a state. And the whole data map is presented under a headline about current infections in the UK.

Great way to help research... though alerts don’t work.. I’ve been a part of this study for months now. I’ve always been passionate about contributing to science in some way if I can. My only complaint about this app is I’ve noticed my phone no longer alerts me as a reminder to log. With any study, especially one that relies on data entered by its subjects, this is a huge potential for losing out on important information. Unfortunately, I didn’t see a place to contact support on the website, so I’m resorting to a review. I’m hoping someone reads this and will take a look!

Important but needs modifications. I am very glad this app exists, as I’m in week 6 of Covid-19 symptoms. A couple of things seem to potentially skew the data. 1. For the many of us (especially in NYC) who have Covid-19 but no test, the app doesn’t ask if we received a doctor’s diagnosis or are sort of assuming we have Covid. 2. For healthcare workers, it asks whether we are treating patients and wearing PPE, but there’s no option for “Dude, I have Covid, I couldn’t be at work even if I wanted to be!” And that’s oddly concerning. (Also, 3. Are we still considering “high fever and cough” as classic symptoms? What about loss of smell? I had that before I joined the study, but now there’s no way to mark it in the app.)

Fantastic idea - let's all pitch in. This is a great app for crowdsourcing data about COVID-19 hotspots. I encourage everyone to pitch in to defeat this pandemic by using this app. The app is backed by Massachusetts General Hospital and faculty from Harvard Medical School, Harvard's Chan School of Public Health, and Kings College London, so there are credible researchers behind it. You can also visit the app website to see the project's datasets that you are helping to create. Incidentally, I also recommend the Kinsa app, which crowdsources body temperature data in a similar way. You don't have to have a Kinsa smart thermometer to use it; you can use your own manual thermometer.

Crowd Sourced Solution to Government Ineptitude. I was so relieved to learn of this app. Participation takes about 15 seconds daily. Greatest benefit is that it provides researchers with info that helps target communities where increased cases are likely, thereby increasing likelihood for proactive measures to help those communities save lives. The other significant benefit of this app is that it forces the user to pay attention to slight changes in symptoms. Such supported/guided self-monitoring is invaluable in an era when government has obscured and intentionally delayed essential info about COVID-19 for a political agenda, thereby putting all American lives (Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and the unregistered) at risk. A sincere “Thank You” to Zoe and all associated researchers.

Almost a Good App. I think the concept of tracking how people is sound and support the premise of this app when it comes to tracking COVID-19; however, it is complicated to set it up and several of my friends tried and abandoned it because they couldn’t figure it out. Primarily, it appears a catch all for several different studies and you’re given very little guidance as to which study you should be reporting. Consequently, you just pick one of the dozen or so listed at random. I’m not sure I’m reporting to a COVID-19 study or heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or otherwise.

Kudos for trying but tracking actual symptoms would be better. I really like that that they’re trying to track CoVID. However, if they’d go thru a list of symptoms each day, regardless of someone saying they feel fine, they might get more valuable data. For example, I feel perfectly fine today. However, my nose is a little runny. So I didn’t report it. I’d get rid of that question all together, or at least put that in with the other “symptoms”. I gave 4 stars because at least they’re trying. Sincerely, I’d be happy to help them (I’m an RN of 29 years) redo their questions to make it more pertinent.

COVID Tracker. This app has made entering the initial setup as painless as possible and from then on, entering the info is limited to 2 simple, straightforward questions to keep our neighbors updated on our status. I submitted my name and address and listed everyone else in the household by whatever I choose to call them, the importance being, that they are a person with the potential of being exposed and then exposing others. Everyone with a computer, tablet, smartphone should be doing this!

COVID 19 Symptom Tracker. The app is very easy to open, enter basic personal data and submit daily reports. What it does not do is allow you to access hour profile and review data pre previously recorded. For example I would like the verify the name of the research project (MEC ) that I have participated in for decades. Since this is a very new application action launched to track participant symptoms it’s probably a bare bones design to meet minimum reporting requirements NOW. Hopefully an updated version will be released soon which will allow participants greater visibility into collected data.

For your own health. This is one of those great times you can participate in your own health and the future because at some point all of this research collected is going to be in written medical journals and papers in the library for other people to study and understand how this virus came about how to deal with any other virus coming about and add it to the information we have going back to the Spanish flu polio measles, etc. everyone Should do this to participate in their own health now and their future health.

Buggy. Initially thought this was a good way to support the tracking effort and hopefully minimize people’s exposure to the virus. Downloaded the app to my iPhone and started to create an account. After putting in my email and creating a password it told me I already had an account. Hmmm. Never used this app or any of Zoe’s other apps. Requested a link to reset my password. Decided to try another email and password. Got the same message again that I already had an account under that email. Requested a reset of my password on that email as well. It’s been 7 hours and I haven’t received any email to reset the password on either email. Went online to the Zoe website and looked at their FAQs. Seems they’re having problems with creating accounts. Unless they update the app to eliminate the bugs, I’ll try elsewhere.

App works well. The app is simple and truly takes less than a minute. I enter my info in daily and do not over think it. Do I have a sore throat? Yes. Is it seasonal allergies? Maybe, but they are not asking that. Over the span of weeks or months, a few days with covid19-like symptoms that do not progress will be a blip. I hope entering this info will help track the virus and make up for the lack of mass testing available in the US. I have not had issues with the app freezing but the “done” button at the end could be bigger. Maybe that has already been fixed in the update.

Please Fix Bizarre Supplemental Study Loop. I have used this app regularly for two years routine COVID status reporting and been very pleased with its stability and intuitive UI. I would be happy to participate in the relatively new supplemental health studies. But when offered three countries in which to participate, the app selected the UK for me regardless of whether I selected one of the other two countries (I am not in the UK). And now the app refuses to do anything other than to take me to pages to answer an irrelevant (to me) UK questionnaire. I cannot even get to the old simple page of Report My Daily Symptoms as I have been doing for two years. So because of this major glitch, the academics are not only missing my supplemental information, they also are missing the routine COVID reporting that I had been doing. Please fix this.

Could be more efficient. First, I applaud this app and its intent. However, I have a couple suggestions for improvement to make it more user-friendly. Whenever I report, I have to tap the screen about five times: Once to say I want to report, once to tell you who I am, no new tests, no vaccine, I feel fine. And each of those times comes with a slight lag time. I think you could reduce that (for most of us) to a single tap. My guess is that 99.9 percent of users of this app are single users: not more than one person. OK, maybe I’m exaggerating but it’s on a phone and most of us have our own phones. Some people are doing it for their families, I guess. So my suggestion is that you eliminate the “Choose who is reporting” screen if there’s only one person. You could have the “Add a Person” button at the end of the process. Second: I for one (and probably most people) have ZERO changes day to day. We have no new test or vaccine or symptoms. So simplify: I want to be able to open the app and tap a button that says NO CHANGES. With another button that says: NEW test, vaccine, or symptoms.

Please Do This. Even if you healthy please do this app I live in a huge apartment complex in which a man died five day’s before the first official COVID-19 fatality for our county. He wasn’t tested at hospital because hadn’t been out of the country in years, he went in with chest pains & 104 temperature on a Saturday and died on a Monday. His widow shared the horrific details with me on the Wednesday and we hugged etc. Within 8 days I developed symptoms but couldn’t and still can’t get a test. 3 weeks later I find this app and I am grateful that data is being collected without bias of location, age, travel history, insurance etc. I believe the biggest exposure and spread of CoViD19 happened a week before my neighbor died when 20,000 people attended Kobe Bryant’s memorial service, they wiped eyes and noses without social distancing for 2 hours in LA Staple Center then majority rode metro & rideshares Uber / lyft after the event. If anyone who was at the memorial service is contemplating getting this app please please please do the inquiry

Picture taken?. This is a simple to use app and we’re happy to help. However lately when completing our daily report on our iPhones, there is a flash as if our picture is being taken. Anyone else having this happen? It does not seem to happen on the iPad. If in fact a picture is being taken, why? With no advance warning, a person could be in a state of undress and definitely not want a picture taken! Please explain since I was unable to find a place to ask a question under App Support.

Problem with the app. There is no way that I can tell to report a problem with the app so I am reporting it here in reviews! Neither on my IPhone or my iPad can I easily put in the date of my COVID text. The date scroll only shows June through December when you are on 2020 (and it does not actually show 2020 - you have to assume it is in the slot before 2021 but it does not show up. Also no actual numbers for dates show up either so you have to scroll through and by trial and error do it several times until you get it right. The first time it asked me the date I gave up after trying several times figuring I would email about the problem but looking all through the app, (and even on the app support tab on the App Store, there is still no way to send an email. So I hope someone sees this and fixes it. I think the app is a great idea and I really agree with the idea behind it but it does need to work in order to get accurate data.

Isabelle Thedogg. Great idea for App. We need it. Let’s get this out around the world. 1) Agree with other reviews-include some (simple) symptom parameters 2) Add question regarding ‘Rate your potential for exposure since previous report’ as contact tracing is critical. Defining when potential contact exposure increases can save lives. 3) Those utilizing should see results. 4) Promote the legitimacy of the study from Nurses Health Study, Kings College and other partners, decreases reluctance to sign up. 5) Absolutely protect privacy of those who participate, and emphasize it. Thanks to all who are contributing and those who developed this opportunity. Stay safe. Stay well.

I’m happy to participate in the COVID Symptom Study!. The app is simple to use and allows you to receive daily reminders to report your health status each day. A diet study is also included though I’ve been unable to complete the study because I had an old phone and the app repeatedly froze in the ‘daily diet’ section of the study. I reported the problem to the developer each time it occurred. I now own a newer phone so perhaps I’ll be able to get through the full diet study now. I encourage others to participate in this worthwhile study.

Just one suggestion. This app is great so far. I just wish that when opening the app, the “home page” could be the page that tells me the number of cases in my area. A page that is similar to what I saw last after reporting my daily symptoms. Unfortunately, I hit done after seeing the numbers and the results and I can’t seem to find this info again. I hope this can be done so that when leaving the house I can see the numbers right away without re-reporting every time.

Not happy!. This website used to be great but I have had nothing but problems with it the past year. I have decided to not participate further. When I submit data (each day) it never fails that the next day it is asking me to report the same date data again. This happens every day! This leads me to believe that Zoe has not received any of my data this past year. The site even states that “zero info reported”. Very frustrating. I have reached out and reported the issues with no resolution. I have been an active reporter in the Nurses Health Study for over 20 years and I’m going to see if they have a site that collects Covid data.

The more the merrier. The fastest way out of this pandemic is with data. This app provides those who need it the most with real-time data about not only who has symptoms or is sick, but who is healthy. In collaboration with the people we trust, namely Mass General Hospital along with Kings College in London and other trusted partners, this app collects and normalizes data in a format consistent with other data collection apps for even better tracking. No personally identifiable data is collected. We all need everyone’s help. This is an easy way to do so.

Worthy research. Research on how this virus attacks on different people and the duration is valuable to have for the future. I highly recommend everyone completing this survey. As I have an primary immune deficiency, autoimmune pancreatitis and autoimmune hepatitis. These are where your own bodies immune system attacks itself. I also do not produce antibodies to fight off infections. Kind of like the adult version of boy in the bubble. As I have had several abdominal pains for more than 2 months, my doctors believe I might have COVID-19. Since Monday, April 6: my chest became very tight and breathing became more difficult. I took the test here in West Los Angeles at Veterans Center on Wednesday, April 8. I have still not received any results. So the news is not right. You can’t even call.

Old faithful. I’ve used this app throughout the pandemic, whenever it first was created. And I’ve recorded every single Covid test I’ve ever taken, and every positivity I’ve ever had for myself and my family. I really appreciate this app. I only wish that the current CDC guidelines weren’t so weak and that we had better guidance as what to do. My son had no fever and very mild symptoms which seemed like his spring allergies and now there’s no guidance in absence of fever.

Highly approve. I probably would have been skeptical of this app if it had appeared out of the blue and if I had not been referred to it by the California Teachers Health Study that I participated in for decades. The Study was valid and reputable, so I was eager to participate in this daily survey for the benefit of medical research. The app is simple to use and takes only a few seconds. I am glad for the notification when I forget to respond after a day. Please, people, help out and download the app. It is legit; no danger to privacy.

Incredibly easy way to collaborate. If you would like to help some of the most brilliant minds in the entire world figure out a way to handle the devastating situation we are all in, PLEASE do so from wherever you are. You do not even need to venture out and potentially expose yourself to get the virus. Just go to this app everyday and report how you are feeling. That is it. Thank you to the team developing this app and everybody using it.

App is great but surveys should be tested better.. I’ve been reporting with this app every day since summer, but I have to say that I am frustrated by the recently added food and lifestyle survey. I have wasted a bit of time twice trying to fill it out and it never lets me proceed all the way through. I cannot tell what is missing. I gave up today and turned it off. I suspect that you didn’t test the survey with many real people before you finalized it.

Important work, needs one minor improvement. Glad to see this type of research being conducted. Plus it keeps people actively engaged in this process. Suggestions: 1. build in daily prompt to complete survey. 2. Provide some type of feedback after respondent submits daily .....education, story telling from the front lines, link to the cumulative regional and world data, etc.

Happy to Help. During this Pandemic I have wanted to contribute on any level to help Doctors and Scientists understand and treat this new virus. I am happy to be able to be a part of this study. I think there are additional questions that could be asked regarding exposures, ie shopping, errands, time spent outside of the house, mask compliance, doctor visits for unrelated illnesses etc. Otherwise I feel this is a good study and will provide information on symptoms experienced by people prior to diagnosis. Thank you for initiating this study!

Good habit for me!. I’ve been using this app since April 2020. Got booted out once, ?glitch?, re-enrolled and kept going. I appreciate the links to local information and webinars. The best part for me is developing a habit of self-care. I’m 72, have multiple risk factors and don’t leave the house unnecessarily. I now check my BP, blood sugars, weight, SPO2, etc. routinely so I can give accurate interim reports to my docs. I’ve also gotten friends to report to support valuable research.

Superb. Awesome app. I love that I can report for the whole family. Share this with everyone you know, because the more people who report with the app, the better. One suggestion for the developers: almost every day I report, everyone in my household who I’m reporting for has no symptoms and is untested. You could make reporting a lot easier with a button that just automatically reported everyone as healthy.

Help others out, highly recommend it. This app is simple and necessary. A single daily check in and a few answered questions provides the medical community with the kind of data that can help us determine each important detail of this virus. This research is key to fighting this virus and employing accurate data to enable medical researchers to get a clear and concise picture of the virus and how it effects our health and our daily lives.

Doing Your Part. I recommend using this app as it’s not an intrusive of your privacy although it does need some basic information vac. records , DOB, if you tested positive. But no personal identification ! Easy to use and it provides critical data , although it’s small part but Doing your part contributes to the overall understanding of the Science involved.

An easy way to do your part. I’m more than happy to report my household’s health each day as we move deeper into the pandemic. Doing your part is easy and provides valuable information on the progression of symptoms if they develop. I know several people who were deathly ill in January-February and tested negative for flu. They are now awaiting antibody test results, so I hope the app adds a way to report antibody tests as those become more common.

Helpful and easy. Not only does it remind me that my health anxiety is just anxiety when asking if I’m feeling well, but it’s comforting to know I’m doing a small something to help. The fact that it’s helping has also been allowing me to relax a bit and focus on more personal issues, since I can now be sure I’ve done everything in my power to help. It also takes less than 5 minutes to do, so it’s worth taking a small amount of time out.

My personal information is basic only. The i formation they need is very simple, nothing that will compromise my safetiness. Other websites registrations or e-mail newsletters require much more personal info. This is an App to know if you got tested for covid19 and if you feel physically normal or sick. That's it! Everyday same two questions. Yo can add family members and it helps All your Community by knowing which Areas have covid19 so you can keep away and safe or aware. Higly recommended!

Gives me options. I like that the app gives me a place to write extra things in. This whole two weeks of being sick have been so strange and not being able to get tested because I can't full in all the boxes? I don't have to travel if I work in a resort town, people travel here from all over the US. That equals me traveling if I'm exposed to them. But that won't check the box on those early questionnaires that had to all be checked before a test was given.

Part of the fight against COVID 19. I joined this daily survey as a health care provider. It takes a minute or so each day to complete. Given the apathy and generally selfish behavior of Americans during the pandemic, I suspect that the study founders will need to take sample bias into account. This is a good app, easy to complete the questions quickly, plus notifications remind me to answer every day. Well done!

Very easy to use.. Very easy to use. Only takes 2-3 minutes per day. Only drawback is one person in our family for whom I report is 16 and has received vaccine but there is no way to report this like I report for my husband and I. Now that there is approval for 12+ years to receive a vaccine, there should be a way to report for our teens.

Be a part of the Solution. This app is simple to set up and simple to use. All it takes is a daily check-in to answer three yes/no questions. It takes more time to place an order at Starbucks. The best part is the study is collecting a lot of secondary information to try to find causal relationships between infection rates and social and economic factors, treatments and locations, activity levels, etc.

Question. Good thing to get more and more people on, I recommend it to all I connect with. I don’t see a place to give feedback and ask questions re the study (that’s a problem here) so I’m putting it here: as a retired health professional I don’t care for others now, or if someone cares only for someone in their own home ( like their mother), one of the following questions, about using protective equipment, is confusing. Also, once we’ve downloaded the app do we automatically get the updates or have to request them somehow?

Knowledge is power. We all have to do our part! Understanding and tracking symptoms of COVID is essential to staying safe and eventually getting back to work, it’s a disease that is turning out to be impossible to predict and this app could help with that challenge. As another reviewer mentioned this is created by excellent medical institutions and I’m happy to share info with them as it will help us all going forward.

Super easy and valuable. Being a teensy part of this study helps me think we might use facts and information to help this beleaguered country manage COVID19. Download the app and join the effort. It’s easy and non intrusive. Anyone worried about the study’s information collection should probably delete every social media site and hand in their phone. Any information gathered here will be used for the good of all, not to sell you useless crap.

Bug fixed, app is working. EDITED: After a couple days I was able to log in. It seems to be the way we as humans should be tracking symptoms so we can all get on the same page. More people need to use this. Highly recommend! Original: Can’t get past the create a profile menu. Please fix. It states “Something went wrong, please try again later.” I attempted three times yesterday and twice today.

Research is so important!. Consider that donating blood, or plasma, a kidney or bone marrow is regarded as a positive action for society. Participating in this research is just as important to society as this is a virus that is new to society. The more information that scientists have from as many people as possible, the faster they can learn more about it. This group is vetted, and there are no permissions hidden within it to track your activities or actions. Please consider sharing your input.

Be part of the solution. It seems like the least we can do is help in a small way by contributing some real and useful data for this very large scale and well run study. I actually stopped answering daily when we thought maybe we were done with Covid. HAHA no. Delta variant. So I am back to checking in. It only takes a moment!

C19 app. The app is great, easy .... at one point after answering the daily questions - I was asked to refer/recruit others sin my geographical location - so clicked on the form letter to copy out to my contacts and realized the letter/invitation was too generic and my that my contacts became suspicious of spam. It would be better if the invite validated the organizations and partnerships behind the research effort. I.e. I am not sure if they were comfortable joining.

Can only participate if you are pet if another study?. I happen to be in a study so I can participate in this app. But I’m also trying to report in for family members and since they are not instudies I cannot report for them. There is no option to click for “I am not in any study.” So since I can’t click any option for them I can’t go in to the next screen to give information about them. Too bad. It’s an app issue. I’m sure the developers of the study want everyone who possibly can to send n information.

Feels good to contribute. One tweak recommendation. I found this app when I was starting to feel unwell and it felt good to be contributing to a broader understanding of Covid. With the ridiculous scarcity of tests and super high criteria needing to be met to get one I was pleased to be part of developing an understanding of what might be milder symptoms. It’s quick and easy. Now that I have been diagnosed with something else I find that it would be good to have a place to report that in the app so that my symptoms are appropriately attributed.

a small way to help make it better. The app reminds me we’re all in the same storm though not in the same boat. It’s easy to use and preserves my privacy while letting me help track the spread of COVID-19, in hopes of containing it. One thing that could be clearer is that if you’re recording data for 2 or more family members, you do have to click DONE after each one, but then you will have a chance to recored the next person.

Everyone should do, but app needs improving. So question “have you felt unwell”. Not sure how to answer. I always feel unwell in one way or another, so said yes. But then asked for how many days which I didn’t know how to answer so I changed my answer to “no” for “have you felt u well”. But then when I clicked “next” app just froze and wouldn’t let me go to “next”, kept showing message about how many days felt unwell, even though I had changed my answer to that question to “no”. OK, so questions not well phrased. I think the authors should get a psychometric to improve the questions.

We need to do everything we can!. I am 68 years old, and live in South Florida for most of the year. I have returned to the northern home, and I am trying to be very careful. I live in a very secluded community near Miami, but here I am in a city. I am afraid that people are not being as careful as they should be.I passed a water park with 20 mothers and 40 children. No one had masks on. Please. Please help people understand the seriousness of this disease. It is so scary.

Much Needed. I think we all need this app and I’m praying it’s not just for us in California. I will continue to share this app praying people will download it and do their part in helping the CDC and government to keep some type of track on this virus. I’m also praying that people are being truthful in this app and the gov can track and contact those that may be reporting the symptoms and they are tested asap! Prayers to all🙏🏾 during this and any crisis that we may go through. God bless.....🙏🏾 Stay safe😷

New Idea to those with whom I’ve shared the app. I love this app. It is an intelligent summary of possible symptoms. Once the initial 3-5 minute anonymous profile is set up, the daily update takes no time at all. Sadly, I have not had a positive response from friends & family. This app was NOT a new idea to me because Dr. John Campbell has been discussing the app in England on his you tube channel for months. Without some kind of publicizing by sponsors, I don’t know if my contacts will participate.

A game changer. What a dream. If everyone would take part and help their community out, the pandemic would be so much shorter and better controlled. Super quick to establish a profile (3-5 min) and then (1-2 min) to update the info. I was sick in bed anyways, what else I have to do. It was easy, well-designed and gratifying. We are all in this together. So let’s try to solve the problems of controlling it and help prepare for the next one.

Quick and easy. If you are feeling well there are only 2 questions. Takes 2 seconds each day to contribute to research. If I do not feel well there are more questions that are asked and takes about 5 seconds. Well designed set up. Highly recommend. I heard about app through Nurses Health Study ongoing research I have participated in over 20 years. Having a large number of participants world wide improves accuracy of research!

Participate in research anonymously!. I’ve been healthy since covid started but always took the time to check in. They are constantly adding more questions and studies on your lifetime which makes me think they know what they are doing compared to the other random BS we’ve read along the way... they understand that the list of symptoms can vary depending on so many components. They also care about privacy which is important to me.

Easy way to help!. This app is a very easy way to help track COVID-19 symptoms in about 30 seconds a day! The initial questionnaire takes maybe 5 to 10 minutes to complete, but then it’s just a matter of quickly opening the app and answering less than 1 minute of questions each day. Definitely worth it to help learn more about this illness and how it is spreading!

Participation number does not update. I got the app because of a direct request from NHS. I shared it with 35 people and several have signed up. The number of participants in our county has not updated and I do not yet see any information on our county, which I assume is because of limited data. App works on my iOS and was easy for me. Some of my friends had difficulty getting the app set up but I believe they were ultimately successful. Daily reports are easy and take only seconds.

Needs better tracking of confirmed positive and recovered status. This app is more useful for tracking the susceptible population and the spread. Less useful for those considered recovered. I tested positive in mid-April and then recovered. The app asks me every day (now early May) for my test date and status. It can remember I am a health care provider. It seems it should be able to remember I am confirmed positive. It is annoying to enter my test date every single time Statistics for my local area are useful.

Help Yourself. Yes we all want to get out again. How much? Here is your opportunity to speed up the process. A simple report each day records the enemy’s defeat, focuses resources where needed. Oh, you’re afraid of losing privacy? I guess you don’t use a credit card or a bank. I guess you don’t use EZpass. I guess you never browse the web? This is a war where lives are lost each day. Sleep at night knowing you did what you could when it mattered. Simple.

Quick and easy. They need as much data as possible to figure out how this virus spreads and how to control it. We don’t have testing anywhere near where we need it to figure out who has it ( without symptoms ) and isolate them to make sure they don’t spread it. This app will help scientist to figure this out. Try to get more accurate numbers. It is super easy and take less than a min to do.

Early in my experience.... I’m only a week into this. After my signup set of questions which seemed designed to see where I was in my COVID-19 experience, I’ve had a daily reminder. Then, on starting the app, I’m given the choice as to whether I want to answer for me or for another person. After I answer for “me,” I answer the same daily question, to select whether I feel physically normal, or feel ‘off’. The reward has been a little local medical factoid at the 25,000’ level.

Never hurts to have data!. I am excited to use this app because it is relatively easy to set up and an absolute breeze to use! It takes me less than a minute to do my check-in, daily. I am definitely technology challenged 😫 and I was able to get it downloaded and set up in a short time! To plagiarize the popular saying, JUST DO IT!

Great public health app. Love that this is an app which anyone can use! I work for CA Department of Public Health and this is a great way to part of the response as well as track your own day to day symptoms. The app is easy to use and well designed. The questions to put together your profile were thoughtfully written. Love that there are questions which are sensitive to all people. I use this app every day- it only takes about 15 seconds to track once a day.

Easy to use, might be helpful to researchers. I like this app because the data I’m entering might be able to help researchers. I also really appreciate the fact that my data is secure & if I change my mind later, I can delete everything that I’ve entered. It’s easy to use & very fast to input the data. It would be even better if the app reminded you to add the data every day at a certain time.

Shades of gray maybe?. I don't normally check my temp when I feel well, so today when it was 99.7 I don't know if it's high or low. I answered "no" to having a fever Byt maybe a "not sure" or "don't know" is needed for those times. Also I've had a "twinge" in my throat like the start of a cold or sore throat but I don't have constant sore throat pain. A middle-ground answer might be appropriate for some symptoms. Also, send a daily reminder text and maybe ask people to do it at the same time each day.

Reminders Stopped Working. I have loved being a part of this study. However, I no longer receive reminders. Most days I remember to open the app myself but once in a while, I forget. If this feature could be fixed, I would appreciate it. I have deleted and reinstalled the app but still receive no notifications. I wrote and received no response. I am using an iPhone. Thank you.

Great app! Just one thing. I wish we could record what our normal is instead of just going by what’s normal for most people. Due to my chronic illness/fatigue, my normal *is* fatigue, migraines, trouble breathing etc. So I never really know if I should say I’m feeling normal (since it’s normal for me, but not for others). Either way, I still love the app and it makes me feel good to know that I’m doing what I can to help my community stay safe

Helping my community, my state, my country and the rest of the world. This app is easy to use. It makes me feel like I’m contributing to stopping the spread, along with hand washing, distancing and wearing a mask, I feel good about this. That is how I feel when every day I log in to the app and fill out the questions asked for myself. If everyone took a little time, we could get rid of this virus. I have already asked friends to join. Won’t you join me in helping?

Great app but odd problem with iOS upgrade. I really like the app and am happy to contribute to the study. Since upgrading iOS to iOS 14, I no longer receive notifications to take the survey. I toggled notification button on and off but nothing changed. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app but no change. Is anyone else having the same problem?

If it only worked most of the time.... Good interface, daily prompts, timely conception. I've been using this app for months, unfortunately, I get a message about 2/3rds of the time erroneously stating "You are currently offline", even when connected to robust wifi and LTE connections. No updates to install, deleting/reinstalling is no fix. There is no obvious way to report bugs within the app, and the developer doesn't respond to emails. I am a medical provider in a busy urban Emergency Department treating dozens of confirmed Covid patients weekly, yet I cannot recommend this app to colleagues since the data collection is faulty.

Few improvements + participate more. I suffer from seasonal allergies. Many of my symptoms could be explained by them.. is this a screening question? Our household has two out of 5 leaving and one of those daily. Do you know the ages of my household? Do you wear a mask while out? Are you taking any vitamins (such as D - a peer reviewed study in the uk on respiratory illness shows less of it for those that do)? Do you clean your phone, common fittings, or linens daily (so the toilet, handles-knobs , switches, sheets, towel ). As a participant from the usa i wish this was used more. Great work so far!
