Can’t find support. This was my second camera and seemed to work fine until the last update about a month ago when I suddenly stopped getting any notifications. I thought maybe I had silenced it during a storm when I was getting alerts every 30 seconds but everything looks correct. And now it’s only capturing about 50% of what happens at my front door. Like it will show/record that someone arrived but not when they left through the same door. And I have tried to get help but not finding any support. Does Apple iOS automatically update apps? I can’t see a way to manually do it.

HORRIBLE CAMERA SYSTEM. Cameras take way too long to load. Do not buy. I do not recommend. There are other camera systems that are much more affordable and work way better than this garbage app. Cameras always freeze while your trying to watch a live video. They take way too long to load on the app. Most times it will say unavailable. All cameras are hard wired. Great internet service and on monitor all is well. The app is extremely frustrating, works too slow and i can never get connected when I most need it. Look into something else, this is not worth your time. App is still garbage always takes more than 3 minutes to load cameras live view. I have excellent internet connection.

Garbage software and service. Have spent months yes months working with this company to solve recording issues with their product. First if you are having an issue adjusting the zone sensitivity for each camera under record settings it’s not just you. We tried it on 4 different phones and the system will just reset it to medium if you set the lowest setting. They tried to play it off as a phone issue. Nope. Ultimately they didn’t address the issue and implied a refund and then recanted because it went past 30 days even though we had been working the issue. To make matters worse during the troubleshooting they shipped me a replacement nvr and put it is a large usps mailer box with absolutely no packing material. Ultimately this was not a fix. This system will say it sees a face or car when there is nothing there. The main reason I wanted to adjust the sensitivity. Just so you know they use the same software on all their kits so I would avoid them all together. If I could give 0 stars for this company I would. Absolutely terrible experience and product. Update: I have confirmed that the sensitivity adjustment issue is had by other customers as posted by other reviews. If you have one of these systems try and adjust the sensitivity under the camera. If you set it and come back it will likely adjust itself. Initially it was doing it to the next level up but now it does it on the lowest setting. It will adjust to medium.

Just purchased and horrible app. App takes forever to load. When going to each section to setup slow to save. Open app to view camera recordings take forever. I have very high speed internet upload and download all cameras and nvr are hardwired. Cameras I had before was much better with interface but didn’t like how to playback motion moments, so I ordered these as I had old night owl camera 6 years ago. I have few days to return. Just might be doing it. I have all settings low detection and getting human detections and not even a person there.

Update…Lose my wifi connection on my iphone. After troubleshooting with my Internet provider I discovered that night owl system causes me to lose Internet connection on my phone. The night owl app is causing it. How to stop this from happening… other than not all wifi connection to the app…does anyone know? Seeing all the reviews kinda concerning… is there any humans in tech support at night owl to help with this???? Also no recordings are made by system. And yes app takes forever to load to view once you get an alert forget it… by then person who attempted entry could be gone. What is this? A joke??? I wish we hadn’t spent the money or time…. Update: We are finding that it takes pics of random stuff claiming it’s a human, face, or motion. Also…Our dog is a “vehicle”… but the pic does not show our dog. When you are actually out and about around the cams it is very few notifications. Also it’s 2 min slow in response. Kind of alarming if someone enters property. Still have not figured out how to record. Customer service not helpful and info in package and online isn’t very helpful. An alert when someone turns off system would be nice as well. Very costly for something that is not very precise with alerting or recording.

Why haven’t they upgraded this app. If I could give give a worse rating than 1 star, I would. Tired of not being able to view my cameras after they notify me that there was a person on the property. Very frustrating. The company said to delete the app and then obtain it again. Getting really tired of this regular routine. Update: The company responded to my review by emailing directions on how to view the recorded videos. This company’s product is inferior. If you don’t want to miss movemwnts around your property, I recommend you go to a different company. Update #2: A bot sends me a duplicate email of the first response. This tells me that I am far from the only person with this complaint. Run away fast while you can! Avoid purchasing yhis dice or video cameras.

Overall great. Great quality hardware products. However, latest app software updates have been deteriorating the experience. For example, downloads fails (“Error: Unknown”), and after a year of “on-the-fly recording”, now it’s “not supported” randomly (sometimes it records, but mostly not) - so it’s inconsistent. Twitter account to support seems to be dead, so i. general, seems like not very well supported in terms of software and online Service. Please, take into consideration that software support is the core in this time. Can’t refer to people if it’s not well supported. In terms of hardware, I give a 100%, but both needs to be parallel. Hope to see future improvements. 👍🏼

Playback recording. Playback recording is absolutely horrible I cannot view anything at all on play back as it states there was no events recorded during this time when all of my cameras have micro SD installed and none are not full I even tried to format it to see if the issue fix and nothing and also recording option is ON. Also only detects a human presence when it wants to as there has been many mornings when I leave for work and later on I go and check and the app it did not detect my precede at all even on times that I forget stuff in my house and go back in and get it and come back out front (camera is in my front house entrance)

Avoid this App, Company, and their Products. This is possibly the worst surveillance system you could ever invest your time or money into. I spent the past few days to make this system work and everytime I had an issue there was no simple solution. First off, this company wants you to primarily use their app to use their product. This is a problem if you set up your system manually before attempting Bluetooth. Essentially, you can get locked out of the system. The product does not have a physical factory reset button, which is a big issue when you get locked out. The technical support contact system is also poor. Calls are ended before they go through to the representative, and the callback option rings for a second before they move on. I tried searching for an FAQ or instructional guide to reset on my own, but there were no resources available. Thankfully the chat support technicians are more reliable than the phonecall support, so they were able to talk me through the steps. The app has poor cross-platform connectivity. If you do something on the website, the app won't register it (such as registering a device). Personally, this app and their products are not worth the trouble. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else.

Can no longer record from timeline. We installed these cameras for my in-laws and so far the camera system has worked fairly well. The app however we have had a few hiccups. Wish we wouldn’t have updated to the latest version because you can no longer record from the timeline. I had to record some longer events within the last two months to submit for proof of an incident and it worked. Now the record function no longer works unless it’s live, it says record playback no longer available on the fly and tells me to go to events. Why would I only want to record live?? Well a couple of the things I needed today aren’t in the events and it won’t let me record now from the timeline. Why did you remove this function? The record button is there and you should be able to record what you need. Please fix this!!

Updated app 2 days ago. When I first installed it, it worked fine. A couple of updates happened since and now…. Every time I close out the app (or reopen a minute later) it seems to lose the device and I have to log out completely and log in again just to get it to reconnect to the system/devices. Not to mention the lights on the cameras pop on and off ALL day and ALL night long whether or not there a person/human/face etc causing movement or not. (I have adjusted the setting and doesn’t fix the issue). Needs an option to shut off the individual camera lights from randomly popping on and off or for indoor use should a user/owner want to. Night vision with the cameras are not an issue. Pros: Wireless system generally user friendly Usually good picture & sound System in house records for playback vs paying out for video storage else where. Night vision Cons: Lights come on and off all day & night with/without cause. Camera’s (all different areas at different times) randomly “ Device ready for use.” No power issues/internet connection issues. Currently app/system having issues Other than a few hiccups.. needed fixes… over all a sound system/equipment.

Alerts come through then system will not connect. Very disappointed in this system. My alert parameters are very specific so when I get one, it is not a false alarm. This system is very quick to let me know that there is an alert but the image it sends with the alert is often an old image of myself. When I attempt to open the alert, my system rarely will connect and allow me to view my cameras. My dev is less than 6 inches from my router and all other devices that run on that router connect instantaneously. Quite pointless to have a security system that won’t allow you to view what is happening as it alerts you that something is happening. Especially at the price point this system sells at. You need to solve this issue, Night Owl as it seems MANY of the reviewers have the same issue.

Connection Issues Make The App Unusable. Never had any issues with any connected devices other than the Night Owl Cameras and the app. It takes an extraordinarily long time to load the footage from the app, and every time you leave the app it makes you restart the app, resetting the footage loading process all over again. I wish there was anything I could do to fix this, but it seems to be completely an issue with the app and its design. UPDATE: In response to the developers, there’s neither an issue with my cellular data, nor my wifi. Everything else I have on my network works perfectly. If you’ve created a program that won’t work without an Ethernet connection, there’s no reason whatsoever to put it on the App Store.

App not working. The app is not working just bought. Cameras followed all instructions. It worked at first, but once connected Internet and open the app to view cameras I get a message saying Oops Something went wrong Please check the Internet connection For your phone and device. Update. My app is up to date still same issues. Not only that but it says cold night vision all I see is black and white even with ambient color. It’s morning more sun is coming up still black and white. I can’t schedule a record without having the app. And there’s no rewind for play back. One camera keeps getting disconnected and keep getting false notifications every 5 min saying it’s captured a face and or human pay back there’s nothing there. I wish I could return them or at least trade in for something else better. And it too bad they don’t have any ptz cameras. I know I can’t return it to the store since it’s past a few weeks could. I return it to the manufacture for a full refund since I’m Jaír completely satisfied??

I don’t understand. So I’m currently trying to set up my night owl cameras and I just downloaded the app and as I’m creating my account, a notification pops up in the middle of my screen saying “error” and underneath it says something along the lines of “this phone number or email address has an existing account.” But here’s the funny part that I don’t get… I HAVE NEVER MADE AN ACCOUNT EVER!! I’ve tried redownloading the app multiple times and even restarting my phone and every time I try to create an account it tells me the same thing. So I try to use it in the log in ( the so called email and number it says there’s an account with) and tap forget password so maybe I could change the password and then get in, but then a notification pops up and says there’s no account made with either the phone number or the email. So now idk what to do and it’s starting to irritate me. So if someone could tell me how to fix this issue, I’ll delete this review and hopefully write a better one. :) TYIA!

Disappointed. Not sure how this all works, but aren’t products supposed to improve with newer models and updates? I had a prior system from them and now I’m questioning my loyalty to this brand. Seems nothing works as advertised when I need it. There’s always some sort of conflict. Always a delay or it’s stuck. As bad as the older model was, it was still much better than this piece of crap. I would have tossed it in the trash already but for the trouble of running the cables and cost. These folks should be ashamed of themselves. And why would they team up with such an intrusive company like Google? Don’t they have a history of data mining people’s personal information? SMH.

Don’t Waste Your Money. Completely HORRIBLE!!! Every single thing about it is horrible. It sends notifications of movement then when you click on it it tells you nothings connected. When you call customer care you have to go through your whole in home device and reset everything on the device, computer and then phone. It takes about 6 hours each time and all they do is transfer you. Seriously find a better camera with better customer care. **UPDATE** IDK what was fixed or improved, it’s worse than before. And customer service with this company is an absolute joke!!! Seriously save your sanity and money, go with a better company - they just hang up on you if you ask questions.

Awesome features - easy to use. Not sure why some people have had issues with the app. I get notifications, can watch live video footage, access my recordings, save snapshots of the recordings and have shared access to my system with close friends and family. Someone broke into my neighbors car and I was able to share footage with the cops using the app, which put me on good terms with my neighbor. Overall, it’s been easy to use and I like the features. No complaints.

Wow the app does not do the price of this camera justice. Please read reviews and understand you can buy this very expensive camera system and it will become literally obsolete because the app will crash every time. I have incredibly fast, Internet service and just updated my entire wireless system in my home. Every single time I go to look at any video on the app, and immediately crashes.. what is the point of having a camera system if you don’t have a easy convenient way to check for safety. If I was in my home, I could not update to live because it would keep reconnecting and shutting down on me that is not safe. If you were going to sell such an expensive camera, you should at least have a working app that can connect with it

When it works- love it. The cameras are easy to charge, mount, and produce a beautiful image. It’s unfortunate, but every one to five weeks this system fails and has to be completely reset, which takes between 20 minutes and one hour. While I appreciate the unnecessary fees associated with a server and system, I truly appreciate the fact that only I have access to private video at my home. Unfortunately, the system is down frequently, and this is troubling. That being said, the 40, is of you says describe earlier, makes this a great value. 9L needs to figure out how to keep the cameras recording and stop this unnecessary weekly to monthly reset.

So far it’s great. Just replaced a 7 year old night owl system with the new 8 channel 4K wired cameras. Setup was very easy. I had one glitch in the app after installing, 24 hrs after installation the app said that said no device added and couldn’t connect. I reloaded and is fine as of now. I have one bad camera that the light and night vision doesn’t work, I tried another camera on that channel and it works. Waiting to get a email from warranty department on replacing after calling this morning. Only con I would say with the camera system is that the cameras themselves although very clear picture compared to my old 720k, they seem very cheaply made. The old ones were all metal and strong, these are all plastic and very light. Only time will tell how they hold up to the elements all of which were fully exposed, the 7 year old cameras I had were still in good condition after going through all the years of temperatures as low as -6f up to 110f and in direct sunlight, heavy rains and snow.

Do not buy night owl for anything. I purchased the wireless equipment in less than two years I had to replace four batteries and one camera out of the three has gone out. Flashing red will not work anymore. I continuously have problems with the app and viewing the cameras. In the beginning it seem like it was a nice set up, but as time went on, things have just went downhill there is no customer service and at this point I am actually locked out of my own equipment and it’s telling me that I got a remove the device off my app and reinstall it and I can’t even do anything about it…. Money doesn’t grow off trees and I wish I would’ve never purchased. This spent over $200 on the set up.

Worst Application Ever. Do not buy these cameras. The horrible unstable application itself is reason enough not to. App hasn’t been updated in 3 months and has clearly been abandoned. I have to basically re-sign into my accounts every 1 or 2 days. Some error about delegate not being set. When I am able to sign in it’s the absolute worst experience. Cameras load so slow and the interface looks like it came from 2010. The most annoying problem is trying to scrub through video, It doesn’t let me watch the recording a few minutes earlier without snapping back to the live video. This is the worst application ever, it can’t even do it’s purpose correct.

Updated Temp Fix: App doesn’t request access to microphone. Update: nightowl is correct the app does request microphone access in portrait mode and will work in landscape mode once accepted in portrait mode so I never went to portrait mode before but this was a fix to no microphone access requests….. I’m sure they will fix this in the newer versions. But for now it does work and I can speak through my doorbell! Ty support team! Newest app version does not request access to apple devices microphone their for the talk to someone on your porch doorbells feature does not work tried on 2 different phones and an iPad. Even went as far as buying a new doorbell same thing on brand new one. Definitely a issue with the app! It used to work in previous versions called tech support on with them for hours lvl 1 then 2 next is a supervisor that doesn’t seem to call you back I think cause they know it’s a flaw in their app!!!!! 0 stars so far they don’t seem that concerned..if it don’t work tech guys roll back to the version that did!

DO NOT BUY. We purchased these cameras in hopes that it would notify us of an intruder. The website says that it will send you notifications if the cameras detect anything. LIES. I have never once got a notification. All notifications are turned on. When I watch it live, it’s great. But when I’m not watching it- it will not show me. On the app it gives me 800+ notifications saying it detected a human/vehicle/motion etc. when in fact it detects NOTHING! Customer support is a joke. I had these cameras for one day and I wanted to return them and they said once it’s taken out the box it is no longer eligible for a refund. RIDICULOUS! They know their cameras are crap. Who wouldn’t give a refund??

App not working and can’t add device. App was working fine all year in 2023 and after update it doesn’t show my camera system. I have done everything the troubleshooting page required to do. I have logged out and logged back in, uninstall my app and installed it again and even did a factory reset and nothing. I even logged on the website and tried to remove the device and add it back to see if maybe that works and nothing. I keep getting a notification saying “Something went wrong. It seems the device has been added before. Please remove it from the device list and reset it to add it to your account” but it doesn’t show any device! This camera system cost me over $700 plus insurance plan for it to work under 6 months of usage. They need to get it together and hire someone who can work on the backend and figure out the issue with this new update they sent out!!! I am beyond frustrated.

Does Not Work and Blurry Now! DO NOT BUY.. The customer service is abysmal, and only a few individuals speak English even rudimentarily. I receive notifications of motion despite the device consistently stating that it is not connected to the internet and displaying blurry video footage out of nowhere. It occasionally works and occasionally does not. Already, my cameras and sound system have begun to behave erratically, and the alarm either malfunctions or ringscontinuously. I want a refund or a replacement, but they have no one who can comprehend fundamental English; consequently, they can only partially comprehend portions of what you are saying, and their accent makes it nearly impossible to understand. The United States must prohibit these countriesfrom distributing in the country unless they improve their customer service and replace their products; this is intolerable. Notifying the BBB is recommended, and all readers should do the same if they encounter similar difficulties.

Night Owl Protect App Not working on my iPad.. I’m not able to make this app function on my iPad, but the app says it should be compatible with this iPad. I’ve talked with two different technical support people and other than having me delete the app and reinstall it they don’t have any other recommendation to fix the problem. The last tech support person said deleting the app and reinstalling it was the only thing they knew to do so the app must be incompatible with the iPad since I told her the app is working on my wife’s iPhone. It seems like the tech support people would have a reference that specifically says whether my iPad with it’s IOS version was compatible without first trying to trouble shoot to fix the problem. The first person even requested that I send a screenshot of the iPad screen that I got stuck on in the app and after that I had to call back again.

Night owl app not. I have the best Internet fast connection no problems with any other in home abs but the night owl cameras. They load slowly or not at all constantly have to be updated. Speeds are slow . Camera connections go down in the middle or viewing . On my tv I have clear camera footage all the time . On the app it’s hit or miss . Junk Update the cameras are in rang as I stated they work fine on my tv . It’s clear with no interruptions. All the Wi-Fi indicators on the Home Screen are almost full. The app is slow drops is the problem . Read the reviews they are not good and all have the same problem if your looking to check cameras when not home bye something else!! Everything is set up to nightowls specs and I also have extender antennas . Again works good on tv at home not so much with app. The extender antennas are night owl products you can purchase on the website . To increase the range for cameras .

Not getting any better - iPad. Every update is worse then the one before it. Are you deliberately trying to push people away from your product? I now have a volume control for cameras with no microphone instead of the scroll feature that I had before. Now if I have a 10 minute clip, I have to watch all 10 minutes of it because I can no longer scroll to see if something happened, wasting vast amounts of time for virtually nothing. If I pull up a live view camera, you have to shut the app down and re-start it to get back to where I was. Who is deciding what changes are being made to this this anyway? Find them, and fire them. Please before this app gets any worse…..

Garbage. The camera is garbage, the app is garbage. If it rains or snows or there’s lots of insects flying around like in summer, then it picks them up constantly as “human faces” and notifies you. We’ve tried to set the recording times a million different ways and even watched videos on how to set them and it still doesn’t record when it’s supposed to. The app if your using an apple it isn’t AS bad but if you’re using a galaxy, you’re lucky if it ever works. It freezes up almost every time you open it. It notifies you that somethings there after it’s gone and don’t record it. People can stand and look into the camera and it won’t pick them up but will pick up headlights from cars coming up the road at a distance and say it’s a human. This camera and this app has been the biggest waste of money. SAVE YOUR MONEY! Buy something else.

Used to work fine. All my cameras used to work fine. I actually have two NightOwl DVRs in my home, one with 8 wired cameras and another with 4 wired and 4 Wi-Fi cameras. Everything worked great for about 6 months and then all of a sudden the lights on the cameras would just come on and go off continuously, and on the NightOwl protect app I don’t even have the light option where I can click the button to turn the lights on and they don’t come on when they detect movement or detect human faces or anything anymore, the wireless cameras are pretty much worthless because I no longer get notified when someone is around my house. I dont know if it’s a software issue or what but whatever it is needs to be fixed or I will be throwing these in the trash and going back to the other DVRs I had before

Incredibly bad. I had the opportunity to read this message to another user: “The use of wifi extender is not suggested for our products. all of the Night Owl prodcuts are intended to be use in a regular home type network. without any managed switches or routers from an actual administrator. if you have a broadband connection through your ISP it will be the most reliable way to setup your system and app streaming. DSL and or Satellite connections are not reliable for security products.” Does it means I have to get an internet line for the sole purpose of this system? This is slow as h..l even with the fastest internet service. I don’t recommend this system until they update their device upload to the app.

Requires a good internet connection but still needs a tweak. I want to be fair. The app plus the SP system I installed for a friend of mine works very very well for its core functions. Watching live feed while away from our house works just fine but you need a good Internet connection. However, downloading videos was a problem. If there’s any hiccup in the downloading process, it will fail. this would be solved with a built-in download manager that can resume and overcome the bandwidth failures, but this app does not have it. This resulted in my being able to download an archive video once after a handful of tries, when my phone had three bars. At less than three bars, you might as well just forget it because it will fail all the time.

Not good. Had these cameras for over a year and still having problems with this app. I’ve used night owl cameras before and the last app was the same way. Updated everything and still run into problems of it not loading or not being able to play back. Thought by now with the way technology is that it would be mint. If someone broke into any of my stuff I would never get the footage. My system is hooked up to internet and I can’t even log onto that bc it’s saying it’s not hooked up even tho it’s hardwired into my modem. Spent 1000 on my whole system and can’t even have a reliable way to watch or check stuff on my phone let alone the NVR work properly

Newest update. Another update. I want the old update back. When I get a notification that a face or human was detected. I was able to view the clip of the object. Now it won’t let me. I can see anything except a few clips from the previous day and only at night time and it’s flying bugs. Nothing about people walking up to our porch. Or our dog just ran off and can’t check the cameras to see. Unless you hold your finger down to go back 10 mins and don’t take it off or it’ll just go back to live. The update is a mess. And for the last response I received was not helpful in any way. I have no issues taking every camera down and taking in back to Walmart. By far not user friendly.

Only one flaw. I am pleasantly impressed by the camera quality and app.. the only problem we have is the sensitivity of the motion and not being able to tweak it.. I’ll have a hundred motion detections and none will be animal, human, or vehicle.. but when I filter to playback human or vehicle detection it will show on some cameras that it didn’t catch any of those.. but when I don’t filter I can clearly see a vehicle went by but it didn’t label it as such.. but it picked up a cat for instance? I need to be able to filter these as one cannot watch hours and hours of a faint light or bug but I need to see the bigger objects. Other than that it is amazing and works better than systems we’ve spent bank on

It’s ok. Has bought and installed the night owl camera system worked great for the last 3 weeks until yesterday I look thur the app and it says I cannot connect. Keep saying”inactive “ I got home and everything is hooked up correctly nothing has moved . So I cannot view anyhting on the app when I’m away very frustrating . Annoying I get false alarms saying “human” when it’s a cat runnnign around my property or a dumb spider decides to hang around one of the camera and keep sending me alerts about it. Or even at night the infects flying around the camera get picked up saying human when I check no one there . Not the best I tried to reboot the system but still inactive connection. Very frustrating spend over 200 for this . Need better “human” detection sensors and just over all secure connection with app to device

Could be good but poor results & performance. Cameras and system work great when attached to HD monitor. However app for iPad / iPhone falls short of being useful. Pop up messages continue to alert of vehicles. But they can’t tell that vehicles are static and parked where they have been for days. So many false alarms it’s useless. I can see the pop up clipped pictures but when I try and switch to live view it does not work reliably. 10% of the time the connection is successful and I’m able to see the live picture. This could be a great app. Hopefully some updates will fix it.

From ok to worst. Since the recent update the app gives multiple false notification of human detection. No humans I put a backup camera system to see if it was missing the human, nope! I’m certain the issue is with the app. There is also a delay and the system is slow. I had night owl for a decade. I thought this new purchase was an upgrade due to video quality but I see more problems with app and apparently the new system can’t seem to turn off Bluetooth. The bluetooth might be the cause of slowness. The video quality recorded is worst and the video live is not an improvement. I’ve wasted more time with settings with this new purchase than I ever spent in the decade owning all night owl products.

John Stewart. This is my 2nd NightOwl system it the DP 2 6 cameras with 18 ports. It was very easy to set up and I love the spot lights. I’m able to stop the spot light on any camera and the pictures are beautiful and the old Night owl cameras still work from 2013. The few times I called tech support they were really great people and always fixed my mistakes. Live in Florida and I think it got hit by lightning and they fixed it like new and NO CHARGE! It’s great when you buy from a company that’s stands behind their products! You get what you pay for.

NightOwl Doorbell. Live video is a bit jerky and delayed. I am hoping that improves after adding a micro SD card. After a few minutes of inactivity you have to log out and back into the app for it to recognize your doorbell camera. Others on here have mentioned this glitch/bug/feature. I am using the latest iOS app and the doorbell upgraded itself after powering on the first time. Also, is there a way to dim the standby light and lower the volume on the doorbell itself? Fix the issue with having to log back in and I will come back and upgrade my rating. FYI…like I mentioned in my original review. I do have the latest and correct NightOwl app from the App Store and the doorbell itself updated itself after powering on.

It’s ok. We’ve had the cameras about a year now and so far they work good, especially in cold weather they didn’t stop working unlike our previous cameras from another company. I have ours set to detect human face and even bugs and snow will set it off. Also I don’t like the movement or human detection notification, it’s just a quick low ding and when you are sleeping you don’t hear it. Other brands announce motion at your front door or motion at your spotlight camera making it easier to hear especially when sleeping. Which they would update that.

Don’t work 99% of the time. NVR-BTN8-8 camera show clear that’s about the best thing, if I leaf get blown by I get a face or car alert, so many alerts for no reason! I have everything set to low I even unshaded areas on every camera that have movement like trees but still get alerts it’s crazy! So you get the alerts but when you click on the notification nothing happens other then trying to load!!!! 99% of the time it don’t load you have to close the app and try again total waist, not to mention every few days the NVR go “inactive” when you call in only thing they do is walk you true “rebooting” but 2 hour or two days later it’s “inactive” again $800 and this is the worst system and app I ever used, I bought 2 complete systems and they are getting returned I want my money back!!!!!

This camera system. I brought my system a year ago and all my stuff is updated and everything my app and my cameras, now all of a sudden I can’t see crap on my cameras but it will notify me when some one is in front of my camera or a car passes by but just sitting here looking all my cameras are black you can see the green WiFi on all of the staring that the connection is good I have unplugged and plugged my system back in after two minutes and it still doesn’t work, I paid 400 dollars for a paper weight cause that’s what I am about to use it for, and developer please do not say update in the app because it’s all up to date on everything. Y'all system just crappy right now and I am going to have to buy a whole new security system which pee’s me off because that means I waisted 400 on y'all stuff.

Mostly okay but won’t show recordings on app. Cameras and hardware are all fine, but there’s something lacking somehow. I can view live, I can see the hardware is recording videos as the HD space indicates free space is going down every day. The calendar shows blue dots indicating recordings are being made. However, the app only shows about a day or two of the first recordings and all other future dates it (incorrectly) shows “no events recorded”. UPDATE: this occurred when I was away from my home. When I returned home I was able to access all the recordings. That’s great, but the reason I wanted the cameras was to watch while I was away from my property.

Terrible app, cameras are alright. I have the wired cameras, as far as the cameras and hard drive themselves I don’t have any issues. However I have 1GB fiber optic internet and the app for the past 3 years I have had these cameras has been pathetic. 95% of the time you can not check the cameras remotely due to the app. I have my hard drive for these cameras directly wired to my router. Having to deal with constantly being logged out of the app and cameras not loading is annoying. If you plan on buying just the cameras and not checking them remotely then they’re fine. However if you seeing this review chances are your intentions are to do otherwise and I would strongly advise against it. Until night owl actually takes the time and fixes this app my review is a strong 1 Star

Perfect. I’m actually really surprised to see so many negative reviews. Our families experience has been exactly what you would want. The set up process is very important. The first thing you want to do is make sure everything updated. Not only the cameras but your phone. Second, don’t rely on Wi-Fi. Use a Ethernet cable directly to ensure a secure connection. & finally, read the owners manual. It helped us set up the app. I did decide to create a separate email specifically for the cameras but that was my personal preference - therefore there wasn’t any issues with the app setup. I’ve traveled on the other side of the country and was able to see everything from my phone. Most of the work is common sense - wires , plugs , etc. whenever we needed help we checked out the manual. 👍

Excellent. This App is truly Incredible! This App provides it's users with a limitless security system that is capable of anything & everything that a professionally installed security system has to offer but without having to spend Thousands of Dollars! It's extremely easy to set up and the interface is very user friendly, but for those who may struggle with technology fear not there are endless Tips - Tricks and Instructions all throughout! Unusable. Was called in as tech support to help a client set up a night owl system that she had let fall to the wayside. I couldn’t even create an account to log into the app. When creating a new account I get an error message that my personal email already has an account associated with it. When u try to recover password I receive a message that there is no account with that email. Makes use of the cameras with the app impossible, even though the documentation makes clear the suggested use is through the app. Will discourage all clients from using this product and will direct them to the Ring cameras which are a much better option with much better support.

Ok. Wish I got a different setup. The cameras are great. But you have a hard time connecting when you get a notification. And it’s constantly asking abut Bluetooth. There’s nothing to connect to Bluetooth so it makes no sense.

Rip off. Absolute rip off . Update the app it does not work !!!!!!!! It says the device has been added every time I try and connect it but then there is no devices under devices !!! Like seriously ????? No mad about this!!!!

Trash. This app is trash. So fun slow on my iPad keeps asking for Bluetooth every 2 mins so annoying. Really wishing I didn’t pay 450$ for this heap of junk

Horrible. 2 times now this app fails because of a expired token and a app update. Then trying to log back into . It states it doesn’t recognize my email or phone number. . But when I try to ask for a password update it recognizes it but sends a code , but then the problem is when I went to website to reset the password there is no place to put the code in. The other time this happened I had to call up night owl which took about a hour to connect to a person. They had to reset everything. Now I am away for a month , out of the country and I have no access to my home recorder and cameras . This is so unacceptable.

Trash. Can’t even create an account cause I don’t receive a verification code

Okay app. It does it’s job. The only complaint I have is that it will not load your camera if you’re on data now. It was working before but now my cameras only load if my phone is connected to wifi, if I’m on data it doesn’t load. Also I like to speak with supports with everyone company and they don’t have a support team.

No notifications. I would like to state I’ve never written a review on anything but this just ticked me enough. It was working fine for awhile & I loved the device and app, but as time went by I would lose connections a few times and about 2 weeks ago I stopped getting notifications/Alerts. It got fixed and worked again for awhile. Now I’m back to no notifications or Alerts. This bugs me because I’m in the military in a whole other country right now and I can’t even protect my family back home. I’ve contacted support aswell & no surprise there was no response.

Nightmare. We bought the cameras hoping for extra security, and piece of mind. Well the app has not been working since day one. The amount of money spent you would think it would be better. They app never loads the cameras. When I try to open it tomorrow see what was caught on the motion sensor it won’t even load up. Let’s just hope that nobody try’s to break into my house because you cannot rely on these cameras and app for nothing. And yes I have updated it several times that’s not the issue. I suggest looking at different brands for a system. Let this be a warning to y’all.

Worst Camera App!!!. First let me say that I love the cameras they are great when your connected to the wired screen. However, the app is the absolute worst. I’ve worked with the Night Owl support and my local internet provider, I’ve reset, uninstalled, reinstalled, updated, even bought a new wireless router for my home internet and the app still works about 1/4 of the time. I just keep getting an “inactive” status 80% of the time. And the whole point of the app is so I can view the cameras when I’m away from home. It’s so frustrating.

Works 25 percent of the Time. Since I’ve had this App it has worked about 25% of the time. It takes forever to get logged in then when I do it it just spins. I have deleted and re-downloaded this app 100 times and it’s the same thing. No I’m dealing with the App only working while hooked up to WiFi. That’s been going on for the past 2-3 months. Cameras work ok. Just need the App to work to see what’s going on in my business. Now I have Been trying to leave a review and it’s having trouble loading that. VERY FRUSTRATING.

Notifications are driving me insane. I’m no longer able to update the notification settings to add or remove what I would like to get notifications for, nor am I able to adjust the sensitivity of the motion settings. These. Notifications absolutely drain my phones battery with the amount of notifications I get, and I cannot change them. And before you tell me to update the app, it’s the most up to date version. Please fix this ASAP.

The App does not work. I rarely ever write a review, but this security system is a joke. The cameras are good.. I’ll give them that. However you can’t get the app to work. The live feed constantly buffers and that’s IF you can get them to pull up. There used to be the option to view your events and now you can’t do that. Every single review is practically saying the same thing and they aren’t wrong. Customer service is a complete joke but online and over the phone. We will be returning and going with a legitimate security company because this one is obviously a joke and a scam.

Wish I read the app reviews before buying this. The cameras work great… but the connection between the app and camera is TERRIBLE!!! This is my main regret for purchasing this expensive unit. I can get a notification about a human face go to no connection. Them i have to close the app and hope every camera is connected so i can see what happened. App not connecting remotely still. Very unreliable.. App worked fine, now it won’t connect. I get notifications just fine. When I am at the shop where the cameras are the app works. I still get notifications. I have deleted app from storage settings, re logged in, etc. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. As I said I get notifications about activities. App doesn’t work all the time. Remote viewing is crucial.

Stopped getting notifications. I’ve had this security system for almost a year. And everything was good no complaints, until 2-3 months ago all of a sudden I stopped receiving notifications from all 4 cameras. My husband still gets them, but I don’t. It’s not the storage in my phone, I have plenty. And I’ve done everything to try to see if the notifications will start up again but I have t had any luck.

WORKS ONLY THE FIRST TIME YOU SET IT UP. Buyer beware! Before the developer says make sure the app is up to date. I checked and it’s up to date the internet connection is fine I troubleshooted using the instructions provided via the app website. After purchasing and setting up the app worked wonderfully. I was able to view my device outside of my home with no issues. Now I can only view the app while at home. What’s the point of this? I purchased this to view while it side the home but I am unable to do so. Since I am unable to return so I will replace it with a ring device.

Don’t update. I bought these cameras 8 month ago and not once have i updated the app. For some reason the app stops working after each update. These cameras are not great but they do the work for the price. In response to your question. The app is working just fine for me, i read other people’s reviews and it was clear to me that most technicals problems shows after each update so i haven’t updated. It’s just my opinion.

Connectivity issues. I thought it was just me and after reading all the reviews I see that it’s not . There seems to be a huge connectivity problem and the app developers are not fixing it . Before if I’m home or not if my phone is on wifi it takes the app super long to connect it will spin like crazy to connect. Now since the latest update weather I’m on wifi or not it’s not connecting. Don’t have the same generic response that you said to everyone else about you can’t control the internet issue it’s obviously your problem . Take accountability and contact whoever did your app and fix it

Quit working after 6months. I purchased it to work as a wired doorbell. The bell does not ring and it does not register on my app. I want my money back $68 wasted I could have gotten a Ring. I bought insurance from Allstate and they don’t want to honor it saying take back to manufacturer. I have tried to download the app again and it’s not working. I called the company and no one has called back and that was 4 days ago.! So update…I took the unit off my door and and charged in the wall charger because it went offline and didn’t register with app and doorbell would not ring. I will require and try this doorbell again before I throw in trash.

App doesn’t work. I connected and paired all the devices, but when I try to access the cameras on this app it says that I have to check the internet connection of my phone. Even tho I’m connected to WiFi, I refreshed the app, downloaded it again and it still says the same thing. I also tried contacting support, but when I enter the help center it only gives me a tutorial on how to connect and pair the devices. I will be waiting for your response, and if I receive help I will change the review to a better one.

Fake five star reviews. Horrible.. All these five star reviews are fake. Anybody who has used this app regrets their purchase. The cameras are okay but the app integration is abysmal. Takes 30s to pull up anything so the live notifications are practically worth less. You can only see events for 24 hours on mobile. Can’t see continuous recordings only events. Downloading events is slow, the NVR software is slightly better but still awful to navigate through. Night owl. Please hire some new application developers and pay them handsomely to at least provide a decent end experience. Right now it’s awful. Needs a total overhaul.

Unable to login. I just recently bought two night owl cameras, and downloaded this app. When I went to login to create a new account, I’m unable to submit the form to create my account. I was going to recommend this to a friend, but after this user experience I wouldn’t recommend you use this product at all. I haven’t been able to even use the cameras yet, but so far my experience with this company has been extremely poor and I cannot recommend this brand. Will be returning these cameras and getting a Google Cam instead.

Allow NightOwl X HD app to work with newer systems. I have a WNVR-BTWN8 system which is looked to the Night Owl protect app. Either unlock the old Night Owl X app or redo the app to make it more like the Older style apps. That do not make you jump through hoops to see what you need to see. Also the app is very unreliable and at times just doesn’t work. It is a shame you pay good money for a system that has so many problems. From the app not working to cameras mysteriously dropping off and needs the camera to be powered off and back on before they reconnect. I should have went with a wired system! Dangreco

Awful. Too bad we didn’t see how bad the app was until after we ran all the camera wiring for 10 cameras through the attic… now it’s too much of a hassle to undo all the wiring and remove e the cameras to return this system. The app works about 5% of the time. Currently, it’s frozen from about 3 hours ago. Every time I go out of the app and back in, it says there’s a connection error and asks me to retry. All of my cameras have a spinning white circle, and my husbands app does as well. The cameras are working fine on the tv, however. This would be a great system if the developers put literally any effort into improving the app.

Time zone bug. I recently installed the BTN8-8 for my in-laws who happen to live in the eastern time zone. When I returned to where I live, central time zone, I can no longer view recorded events UNLESS I manually change my iOS device’s time zone to eastern. Then the recorded events for each camera appear. Like others, I frequently get the Ooops error on the iPad or iPhone. When directly connected to the NVR using a mouse and tv as a monitor, I have no problems with the system. It’s just the app, which is disappointing.

Problems since new update…. 4 days ago a new update for this app was released. Since then the live view of my cameras only lasts a few seconds and the feed is interrupted & I get message saying I need to check connections on my phone and the location. Then I have to start over again with loading the feed from that camera. It’s so frustrating. Already, this app is so slow. Takes forever to load a video in playback and the live feed freezes often. I wish we’d installed a different system with a better app and playback platform.

So much better!. I had a night owl system for almost a decade, but recently updated to one of their new systems. This app is much more user friendly than the old one. Definitely made setup much easier…way cool to setup thru app. Not sure anyone from night owl sees this, but thanks for the help from the legacy team… Made upgrading much easier.

Upgrade, not so much. My last NightOwl system finally gave up after 6-7 years. I went with them again because it worked so well. The NightOwl Protect App is not very good. I have a very good internet service but this app loses connection a lot, video is slow to come up and controls don’t work. The video quality setting for each camera doesn’t work, the slide adjustment doesn’t move. The audio volume does move but doesn’t adjust the volume. I don’t have any issues with any BT or WI-FI except for this app.

Please fix this app. I love these cameras, but this app is basically useless when I’m trying to view my cameras and I'm away from home. These cameras will not load on the app if I’m not home. Also, it detects any little movement as a human, I have the sensitivity turned all the way down but it will still send false notifications regularly. But my biggest concern is the app just not loading my cameras when I’m away from home. That was the whole point in buying this camera system so I can see what’s happening at my house when I'm away. Please fix this app so I don’t have to change to a different camera system.

Does the job. I am using the Night Owl device for about six month. The image quality is good, especially at night (I was using another brand before). The detection is correct. Setting the device took me about 30 minutes, so not too bad. Just a comment. I would like the app to support other languages.

Lag. I’ve purchased 3 or 4 home and business night owl products and this year service for cameras are the worse. My devices are connected straight to lined modem as suggested. It alerts everything under the sun. However, when it comes to viewing as the previous comments from Aug 31 from another customer. Ring does a better job. I’ve had ring before night owl & they aren’t the best but they get the job done. And the functionality on the ring for prior day viewing are much better & less cumbersome.

Update from last review. Still bad and having issues. Was told it was my internet connection that was causing the issue. But recently got a new service and a higher tier than before and the issue is still the same, NO change at all. Takes forever to load my cameras and even sometime not load at all. Even tested it right beside the routers and still no change. Even got a new route at that, but no change. Cameras have cool features, but are useless if it can never load on the app.

They can better than this - annoying and the slowest app I have ever used. Sorry to say this, but this is the biggest mistake I have ever made to purchase the night owl camera. However, I have to say that the camera quality is good but the operation using the app is annoying and terrible. They can do better than this, at least work around app and make it work faster; while getting notifications are super sensitive even in “lowest” mode but previewing the notification is terrible, it takes for ever to open even if your are next to the receiver, and often there is an error u get nothing to see. There are better options in the market, instead of replying with no sense; it would better to improve the quality of the app and its connectivity. Hope they get it fixed before I get rid of the night owl devices. Thank you

False or late notifications. I have problems with the notifications that arrive on my phone, they are arriving late and do not arrive at the moment of detecting movement, on many occasions the event, whether human or some other, has already happened at the time and the notifications arrive or continue to arrive after a long time time what happened, notifications should be at the time an event is registered and not after, can you please review, thank you.

Works great. I don’t know what all the other idiots are complaining about in the reviews. You have to be a complete idiot to not know how to setup the Night Owl cameras. If you follow basic instructions it will be easy. I enjoy my cameras and have no problem with them at all. I’d give five stars but the stock pictures on this apps description page in the App Store is cringe lol. Honestly, all in all, don’t listen to the incompetent people writing bad reviews. They obviously don’t know what they’re doing.

Fix rotation. Cannot rotate on iPad…. On standard menus. It does rotate in an individual camera live view, but not when using the rest of the app. Inconvenient as my iPad is setup with a keyboard so I never use portrait mode for anything else. I would like to be able to see the live view with all cameras in landscape mode, so I can have it open to the side of my computer. To do this now, I have to prop up my iPad in portrait mode. Just odd seeing as the entire iPad platform can be run in landscape mode, but a few apps don’t support it.

Update: App working better. Dont want to jinx it but since my last factory reset a week ago the app has been working well with a clear live connection. Im hoping they are committed to getting the app to where it needs to be because now that the app seems to be working it is a relief. Will continue to monitor and hope its not a fluke but ive raised my rating from a 1 to a 4 for now.

Anything related to the app is garbage. As long as you NEVER plan to use the online features this system is great. If you just hook it up to a TV and use it that way it works flawlessly. This app is absolutely garbage and it NEVER works correctly. I can never observe any of the recordings. Live view works okay but takes forever to get going. The speak through feature doesn’t work but 1/4 the time and the delay is so bad you can’t actually speak with anyone. I have Fiber Optic internet and have ZERO issues with any other devices. It’s simply this gimmicky app.

Too long to load. The app lags wayyyy too much. I shouldn’t have to finagle with the app just for me to see my live feed. I will have to close it out several times for it to even pop up. This in a way makes the cameras pointless in a case where something may be happening. I had my car stolen in the driveway of my house and I thought I purchased a camera system that will ease my mind, but sadly it isn’t the case. The app needs a much faster response time when loading feed and not the 5 min its taking now.

App always malfunctions. USELESS despite updates. It’s a never ending problem with this application. What’s the point of being able to “secure” your home with the ability to monitor cameras remotely if the app to view it has so many problems! Slow connection or no connection. Failure to download events. “Unknown error” message that not even tech support “knows” what the error is. Sometimes my device is ACTIVE..other times it displays inactive. ??? I have no problems with my internet connection speed…my iPhone is running the most current iOS. And im yes I did recently complete latest nightowl update as well. Still having issues.

Features missing. Connection is initially difficult but not too time consuming, the model of camera I have only have mounts that force my camera to be oriented into the vertical position. I believe this effects the object detection, it’s also unappealing in the app (which doesn’t allow you to rotate the camera display digitally for an unknown reason) it’s good, put for the price of these cameras you’d expect more functionality.

Buyer Beware!!. If you’re looking for something that will allow you to access cameras away from home, this is not it!! The app continuously states that there is something wrong with connection. My cameras are directly connected to router and my phone has great service. There is definitely something wrong with this app and after so many complaints it seems the issue still has not been addressed. If I could return these cameras I would and get something that will actually be useful for me.

Great app, super easy to use. The app was incredibly easy to set up and was extremely easy to use for a new user. I can watch my cameras live and even set up notifications for movement. This has helped tremendously with packages disappearing off my porch and my family feeling safer in our home. I have recommended it to all my friends and anyone who asks.

Running night owl for years. I been using night owl for years don’t have any issues it work fine It could be better but so far it’s good. The only thing I have an issue is the 4K cameras the video have glitches when the person is moving other than that is all good.

Do not like the product. Camera give false notification.. don’t record sometime.. No play back Batteries always say low even after I bought more batteries and the batteries charger from the night owl website My house is 4 blocks away from my job and when I click on the camera by their self it stuck on loading When I click on live view it only show for a moment When talking through camera it come through 30min later and the voice over is not clear If i could return this I would … but I seen another person already ask to return and all they said to them is update the app… I’m already on the latest update and this product is very bad… All I can say is do not buy this product it a scam and you would lose out on money that could go to a better camera system… I would not recommend these night owls to anyone and anyone I see about to buy these scam cam I would detour..

NO SIGNAL. I bought Nightowl less than 9 months ago, it was great, totally works good but couple weeks ago it just shows No Signal and just on, off all the time, I thought it was interest cable or HDMI cable problems but nope after I bought new one it still shows no signal, trying to connect to technical support and they says I should need new monitor or another TV to reset the system, either my app so inactive too, so funny for that reason I should read reviews before I buy NightOwl though, I wish I could return this to Walmart.

Worst app ever!. There are so manny issues with this app I don’t know where to begin. The app loses the device every few minutes so I’ll have to log out and back in to be able to check cameras. Recordings are not reliable, it’ll record when a tree moves but it won’t record when someone is at your front porch. Recordings take forever to load, if they load at all. I got this because I wanted to be able to check if anyone approached my property in a malicious way and if so have proof of it but this app is extremely unreliable.

App function. I have ten cameras, and I have 6 out of the 10 recording constantly. When I want to go back on the phone and replay from one of those cameras, it tells no events recorded, even though I know they are. Since I can’t get the sound from the desktop I rely on the phone. It was working awhile back, and quit a week ago, granted, it was already slow loading, if it ever loaded. But now it won’t even load. I really wish your app was more of a great quality product. I’ve had to show footage to authorities, just to not have it load and retrieve it.

Terrible customer support and connection speed. The customer service is TERRIBLE. I had an issue of my system not connecting even thou it was connected via Ethernet cable. After on the line for about an hour waiting to talk to someone (also it kept saying the estimated wait time is 10 minutes for the entire hour), when I finally spoke to someone and explained my issue, they said please call back later and ended the phone call quickly before I even had the chance to say anything.

Garbage!. I don’t understand how hard it is to get an app working correctly. My Tesla app, which is my key, never goes out. It is always connected. This app is constantly disconnecting. And I’m always having to add the device again because for some reason it losses the device. Not to mention when it is working, it takes forever to show a live view. They should go back to the old night owl app. At least that one worked. Fire the idiot that created this app and start from scratch! The worse thing I ever did was to upgrade to these cameras. It wasn’t an upgrade.

Very Buggy & Worthless Notifications. The cameras will detect a leaf that hasn’t moved in a year as a human face, or a fly, or anything really. Changing settings doesn’t help. The app doesn’t let you change notification settings thought it says it does - it just reverts to the settings without letting you save changes you make. The app is basically worthless other than letting you see your cameras “live” (about 5 second delay) or seeing what was recorded. Not at all useful for real-time security.

Not easy to set up. I had a hard time getting this set up. After a little over an hour, we finally got it. The initial set up keeps giving errors for the password even though you used all characters they want. I finally got it using the computer route. Besides getting started, I really love these, the quality is great.

Do Not Buy This. We have been dealing with this terrible camera system for two years and have finally decided to replace it with something that works. For the price we paid ($500), I expect the product to actually work. For the Night Owl employees responding to everyone’s reviews: My Bluetooth is fine My wifi is better than yours My firmware is up to date My phone is up to date I am on the latest version of the horribly coded app Nothing is wrong on my end with my connection. Your app is not just bad. It’s really really bad. It does not support wifi. It drops the signal constantly. Viewing recorded videos takes ten minutes for a 30 second video because it stops and has to reload. This is a clear scam and I’m superseded the FCC hasn’t intervened by now. In fact, I’m going to notify them, as well as the BBB and my state’s Attorney General. Because you shouldn’t be robbing people like this.

To costly …. This product is too costly to not have the abiotic view any time line events while away from home. We can only see live events. Admittedly didn’t do enough research before purchasing this product. The purpose, we had in mind, for buying is the ability to see what is happening around our our home when we are not present. Watching live is fine, but the timeline not so much. Also the alerts are beyond annoying as every single person, car or wildlife passes in the camera range alert. So all day, alll day and night, this app is alerting. There is no range limiter so alerts allll day long.

Update. Update; I reinstalled the app like you said and no change. Your update wrecked the app. It takes forever to load the cameras and like I said the go back arrow isn’t always there and I have to reload the app. Sometimes I have to restart the app 3-4 times before it turns on. I have an iPhone 13 promax. It’s not a slow phone. The latest update is the disaster. The go back button doesn’t work half the time and you have to completely close the app to get to a different camera. And the videos take longer to open and half the time they give you an error.

Underrated. The app works fast when configured optimally. You really should use an Ethernet cable to your router and use this app. It’s important to know that HDD storage devices will die over time, so you should probably change the storage device out every couple of years. The menu options go pretty deep which can take some time to navigate, but for $200 this system is really comprehensive.
