This App is SPECTACULAR in every way. After enjoying and being obsessed with the 2018 app like this I couldn’t wait to purchase this one. I have learned so much by practicing every day. My skills and confidence have increased thanks to this unbelievable app. This is without a doubt the best way to learn the card, use strategy and make you the best Mah Jongg player you can possibly be. I’m sure you’ll be as addicted to this as I am.

I like the game, but prefer to see full card game. I would like to have the option to see the full card and choose the line I want to play instead for the app choosing for me.

Easy Practice for American Mah Jongg. Game is easy to use for practice and provides error messages if player makes the wrong move. For 2020 an upgrade was made showing the other hands at the end of the game when the player doesn’t win. It helps to know why no win. And the new colors to differentiate the 4 suits really improved the visual. I wish the app would also show the other hands when the player wins because I like to know how close they were to winning.

Taken away the aha moment. I’m disappointed that a ‘declare mah jongg’ button pops up now rather than letting me discover my win on my own. I’m sure it was designed to bypass the dragging of tiles, but I wish the button was always there and only functional if you win rather than a pop-up.

Finally, a Real Mahjong Practice App. I’ve searched the App Store, finding lots of “Mahjong Solitaire” Apps that only match tiles and really have nothing to do with mahjong. Mahjong Practice simulates a real game of American Mahjong including the Charleston. It’s great practice for selecting and playing a hand. All the features work great on my iPad and iPhone. Love it.

Love This App!. I am obsessed with playing this! I started playing Mah Jongg with a neighborhood group, once a week, less than a year ago. As the “newbie” in the group, I needed something to help me learn better strategies. This app has greatly improved my playing and I have recommended it to every player I know!

Excellent practice for beginners. I started playing Mahjong a few months ago. I was spreading out tiles on the kitchen table and practicing identifying hands. This app allows me to now practice anywhere on my iPad. It’s simple to use and only gives you hand suggestions when you want them. I’m trying to avoid focusing on the same sections on the card all of the time; it tracks that too. Can’t recommend this app enough for new players!

beginners favorite. This app is great for beginners. It not only advises the best hands to play, it tells you how many of your tiles match that hand AND in another tab, shows that hand picturing your tiles. If you try to make an illegal move, it will warn you. You can play against yourself or robots. When you play against robots, you can take their exposed jokers! It’s so close to a real game. While in my play, you can see tiles remaining as well as, what tiles were discarded. I highly recommend.

Called Tiles. Great game, so fun to play! I have noticed one thing that seems to be a glitch. As the players discard, first me as east then south, west, north (which by the way seems to be the wrong direction and in reading I never see any player other than east having a designated direction) sometimes the discards are attributed to me then south then west then back to south, west, north, and then me again. So I check to see what tile south called and nothing is exposed. The rotation shouldn’t have changed without someone calling and exposing a tile.

Good practice....BUT..... When the game is over with a Mahjongg or Wall Game the other hands should be revealed/displayed so the player (us) can see what the other hands were playing with. The player has NO idea where the other tiles were being held. It’s optional in a Mahj game if the other players want to reveal their hands.....but in this practice app....it’s helpful. Also....your player (us) Win & Loss count doesn’t work. Or it just tabulates for the day you are playing. I’ve won a whole bunch of games and all I ever see is maybe 1 or 2....... What’s the 4.4 category in the bottom menu line?

Loads upside down!. It’s impossible to play when it loads upside down. I have the versions from 2019 and 2018 with no problems. Also I don’t know why it’s called practice when it wasn’t practice the previous years. Is it practice because it’s upside down?

Best way to learn the card. I use this every year when the new card arrives. It shows possible hands based on your tiles from the deal, the Charleston, and throughout the whole game. It helps me learn hands better than any other online game or app.

Great for practice, need multiplayer & notice a bug. This is great to practice playing American Mahjong. I did notice a flaw where you can call a tile then if you decide not to call it you can put that tile back in your hand and discard a different tile. That should be fixed. It would be great if you could have multiplayer so you can play with at least one human and some bots or all four humans.

Great Practice Tool. I really like this app. One small problem is on rare occasions, it doesn’t recognize the play I am attempting to play and it tries to give me error messages. Sometimes it's when I am using jokers and it thinks I am playing singles and pairs.

Helps familiarize all potential hand matches. I tend to fall back on the same winning hands and after using this app my go-to repertoire has expanded! It’s my go to game whenever I’m out on hold during a call 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

The best practice. Received my new card today so immediately purchased this year’s app. It’s the perfect way to learn the card. Even after learning the card, I play in the evening while watching tv with my husband. When we travel, I appreciate that I can play on long plane rides.

Good app to play mahjong.... I like how this app shows which choices are the best options for your current hand. Like many "game" apps, it seems to know your hand. Most of the time it plays against you but sometimes it lets you win. There is another app that I subscribed to play mahjong online with other people. That one is obvious that it knows what your hand is and is very frustrating to play. As I mentioned, at least this app lets me win sometimes.

Learning Mahjong. I find this app very pleasant to work with and I think I’m learning to play the game. I wish I had an explanation of what some of the markings mean I think it means how many tiles were used in each category or suit. But I can’t tell if it’s the ones I passed through or the whole game passed through

Good for practicing. Just got this app to practice. Once I figured out how to switch to 2021 game, it works very well. Good for practicing & get familiar with the new card. It would be better if I could see the other’s call tiles & take the exposed jokers like when you actually play with others.

Since my last review…. Looks like the problem I had with the app has been fixed. This is my favorite app to practice mahjong. It’s easy to use and a great way to improve your playing skills.

Even better to have during our days of quarantine!. I’ve been playing this wonderful game daily—- usually 10-12 games during the early quarantine period, spread throughout the day and night. Now I’ve still found it challenging and fun with the 2021 card. I’ve been teaching friends to play and the “pattern” section of the screen really helps all of us zero in in the best hand to aim for! I play two other online Mahjong games and yours is by far the BEST! One little problem: no one seems to be able to download or install it on a computer— only on an iPad. Why is that?

Excellent way to improve your game!. I have played this app since it’s start in 2017. It is an excellent way to practice and learn the card. Watching “patterns” helps you to see the best hands to play and broadens your knowledge of the card. I believe this app helped me to win 1st place at a tournament this past year. Great app!

Making Me a Maven. Having played a real game only once, playing this app for a couple of months made my mah jongg guru tell me I was certainly ready to “play in public” and that I knew what I was doing. Am looking forward to seeing the 2020 version soon since I see the National Mah Jongg League is selling the cards.

Great App. I am a beginner just learning game. I use this to practice building a hand. I am able to go back and replay the hand when I make a mistake. I then can see if I was thinking correctly after they show me that I looked at the card wrong and I didn’t MahJongg. I learn quicker by seeing my mistake and trying to make a correction. I find it very helpful.

Beginning Mah Jong. I found this App very helpful to learn American Mah Jong. I had a book to refer to as well as some of the more obscure rules aren’t clear in the App. At first I used the tile tab to understand the different combinations but I forced myself to use the pattern tab as that is what you look at while playing. It does help you see your top combinations which the more I play the app the more I feel I will be able to do for myself.

A great way to practice!. I am new to Mahjong and have found this app to be a very beneficial way to learn the hands and start to see patterns faster. I really like being able to see the potential hands in "real" time and also being able to turn that feature off when I am ready to challenge myself. The controls are hyper sensitive, though, so if I happen to have a finger resting on my iPad in just the wrong spot, tiles will be discarded without me even noticing sometimes. Must. Keep. Fingers. Away. The only real issue I wish would be corrected is that the Concealed Hands in the Tiles list should be hidden once a partial hand is exposed. I have Mahjonged numerous times only to realize later that, as in the real game, it should not have counted. As a newbie, I often miss this and feel I would learn better if this responded appropriately. Additionally, one interface feature that would be helpful is the ability to switch where the discard pile is. It would be more comfortable for many of us to play left-handed, but as it is playing that way means the left arm has to reach over and it covers the board. An otherwise terrific app--thank you! **Edit: To be clear, if I try to Mahj on a hand that is not on the card, the app shows me that it is not allowed. Similarly, it would be helpful if the app would disallow a Concealed hand with an already partial exposure.

American MahJongg Practice. This is a great way to practice the new hands for this year while I wait for my new cards to arrive in the mail. During the pandemic this app helped me to keep my skills sharp even though I was unable to play with my usual MahJongg group. It is totally worth the price.

4th year I have played and why. This app helped me learn the card very quickly and gave me an advantage when playing with my neighborhood group! Knowing the card made me a faster player. The constant updating of combinations helped me learn how to change my hand. This is the 4th year I’ve bought the app. Thanks!

Excellent game. This is great practice to learn the new card and sharpen your skills. I play it daily and have for several years. I love this game better than all the others available (and I have tried them all). The Technical Support is very responsive and will fix a problem for you right away should you find one. Only once did I find one and took pictures and they responded immediately. Buy it. You will be happy with your purchase. Thank you for making a great game.

BEST way to learn the new card!. I have been using this app for years, and without a doubt, it’s the best way to learn the card. I believe the App cost $1.99 the first time I purchased it, and the cost has gone up every year (like everything else!), but I don’t hesitate to buy it! I teach Mahjong, and I recommend your App to every student. Almost perfect.... I love using this app to practice my Mahjong skills. It’s helped tremendously. My one and only complaint (which really doesn’t deserve a whole star removed) is that if you choose to stop after the first Charleston that you can’t do a Courtesy Pass. It goes right into the game. But, I hope you come out with the 2020 version as soon as the 2020 cards are available. Thanks.

Flawless App. Still the GOAT (2023). Thanks for the quick update! Eight Bam has done it again. This version of Practice American Mahjongg works perfectly. Displays are crisp and instant. It's a great way to learn the new American Mahjongg Card. The developer continues to improve the app. Practicing on the app provides me with two benefits - I really enjoy playing it and it makes me a better Mahjongg player. There is a wealth of information about each hand you play. In addition, the developer is very responsive. Thank you for one of my favorite apps.

Amazing customer service!. Wow- I sent an email to support for this app and had a response in just hours and the bug was fixed the next day! Amazing. This is my second year on the app and I love it. Have tried others but this is by far the best.

Mah Jongg. I am a novice left handed player and not detail oriented. I get frustrated because my hand covers the bots; in fact, I had played and lost several games without knowing why before I saw the bots my hand always covered. So now I have to put my arthritic hand in an uncomfortable position to play so I can see them. Also, sound would be helpful. I have been playing for only five months, and the computer makes plays so quickly I usually miss them, and am always surprised when live jokers have disappeared and when another hand has won because I missed what happened.

Great way to learn the card. I think there’s real value in seeing that list of possible hands, choosing one, realizing that you might actually win with only 4 of its tiles at the beginning, being able to replay the same tiles with the same or a different hand — it’s called “practice” for a reason. After the Charleston, be sure to turn on the “Bots” tab so you can claim the available jokers.

Great practice app!. I thoroughly enjoy using this app, especially during this time of isolation and social distancing! (I thought I found a glitch, but the developer set this newbie straight on my rules misinterpretation. It’s nice to know someone actually reads these reviews!) Thank you for offering this. Great practice format, one suggestion.. I love that I have a place to practice deciding which hand to go with and I like watching the other players, it has helped me get faster at determining the tiles not to discard. Although I was very confused once that a player discarded a card they had to have needed until I realized they don’t Mahjong. I do have a suggestion regarding concealed hands. Please remove the Concealed Hands in the Tiles options once the player has has claimed a discard. As is true in the real game, you stop looking at concealed hands if you have called a discard. Thanks again for a great game.

Great app but... I love this Mahjong practice app! However there is an easy cheat that you can pick up discarded cards and use them without displaying them which is against the rules! If I stage the card to display it and then put it in my deck that works. Can you fix this to prevent the cheat??? Thank you!

Great Way to Learn Strategy. Love the app, however I continue to experience an annoying bug. Playing on my Ipad, I win a hand for the first time and more often than not it shows up as 2 wins in the win column. Is there a protocol to follow to avoid this? Thank you for the fix! No more unearned double wins.

Great Training App. I really love this App. It allows me to learn the. We card really quickly. I’ve stretched myself with more concealed hands in real play. I also think it’s helped me strategies on how to look for hands and decern how much of a risk I want to take each round.

Great way to learn the card too small to see the creacks. I love this game and play it often. I have even encouraged my friends to use this app to learn the card. However, the tiles for the “bots” are way too small, especially the cracks. Before the Apple update this week I could see the numbers on the cracks by using my readers but now that doesn’t even work! This is very disappointing since I paid for this app. I also wonder if the creator of this app has ever actually played mahjong before? Unless they change the size of the bot tiles I might have to look for other versions of this game on different apps.

This mah-jongg app is great for testing and improving your skills. This app has opened my mind as to other possibilities available. In particular, when you think you know what line you want to play, and one of your opponents plays the tiles you need, I have learned how to switch gears and open my mind for new possibilities. I have recommended it to several friends who are also enjoying it.

Jumping Mahjong. I really like it, but there are several technical problems with it. I will place a tile in my group and it will suddenly jump back to where it was originally. Or if I decide to take a discarded tile and try to move it to display it will disappear. Seems like the pattern section is always showing the same combinations or same suits.

Beginner. I’ve only started playing with a group about 2 months ago, and I’m very unsure of myself. I’m luck to have such patient people in my group. This practice enables me to become more familiar with the tiles and rules. I’ve even won a few times with it. I recommend it to other beginners.

Issues w app. Second updated review… Had issues w app… found the issue was with me! Using app incorrectly! Valuable lesson!! Moving to monthly subscription or no?. I saw a message with a recent update that this app was moving to a monthly subscription. Now it says it’s removing that. I haven’t applied the last two updates because I don’t want to pay a monthly fee. I am happy to pay $1.99 for the new card. Whay’s the current policy?

Great from beginners to pros!. Great and fun way to practice and learn the card! Shows you the possible hands with your tiles with how many tiles your hand holds that match the pattern. Look at the pattern as shown in the card or look at the actual tiles showing all the possibilities. This app is fun and improved my knowledge of the card and playing! If you don’t like to play closed hands, just ask not to be shown those as suggestions. Avoid any section of the card so you can focus on the ones you’re practicing! Try this - worth the price!

not free. Why don't comanies just put the pricing up front on a game istead of making it look free and the first window is the price which you have to pay to play this version. That bugs me and I won't even consider the company or trust them after that.

Mah Jongg 2020. I’ve played the previous versions of this game (2018 & 2019), and this version has been a good way to learn the 2020 card and satisfy my MJ fix since COVID-19 has stopped all games in my area. But, the little “bugs” in this version are quite annoying. It act very quirky at times.

Selecting hands. The most difficult part of mah Jong is picking the right hand. Your display and constant change takes away the most challenging part of the game. Also, I should be playing with a bot. If u manage to get my hand it is likely after someone else already got it.

American MahJonh Practice 2019. Wow. This is exactly what I was looking for! I recently began learning & playing MahJong with "real" tiles & a group of people. However, I needed extra practice to learn the game & especially the card. This app is perfect! I've played over 100 games so far (on this app). I'm becoming confident in my "hand choices". My skill level has improved greatly. Importantly...this app is NOT cluttered with ads or bells & whistles. There are NO annoying sound effects or animation. It's a nuts & bolts MahJong game. Perfect app for learning & improving.

Mah Jong. This app makes learning Mah Jong easier. As a beginner I was very aware of sequences, but missed other nuisances. This app has corrected that habit and allowed me to focus on detail and game play.

Stick with it. Mah Jongg is a tough game to learn. This game really helps! You’ll need some knowledgeable friends or a book to complete your training, but give it a try. Your brain gets a great workout!

Learning American Mah Jongg?. Best App to practice the Charleston, test your decisions, and learn the Hands on the new 2023 NMJL Card. I love that you can now choose which set of tile style appeals to you the most! Still playing with different Tile choices in Menu-Settings-Tiles.

Best app to practice. I play with a person who takes Mahjong very seriously. This gives me the opportunity to learn the rules and play more confidently.

Great for learning new card. I think the analysis of potentials based on the # of tiles that match specific patterns is teaching me a lot about strategy. I know my 2019 card better, using this app for just TWO DAYS, than I did after 3 or 4 months by just playing a couple of times a month.

Wrong use of joker. The bot declared mah Jong using a joker in 2022. Not cool. Otherwise, I have enjoyed this app for a few years now, and would normally rate it five stars. And, yes, I screen shot it.

Winning. I love these games and have learned so much playing them. It has helped me with strategy and to learn the card when I play with my Mahjong friends. I hold the record for the wins and thanks to this app.

2020. Can’t update to the 2020 card. I got the message but had to update payment info and now I can not find the message again.

Round 2. This is the best. I was here before Covid and I finally got my refresher course and this is the only way to go. Great support, well worth the small fee.

This App Does Everything. What a great learning app. You can do everything on this inexpensive app that you can do on the apps that cost $60 a year. I’m a new player and It has helped me improve my my game tremendously.

A bit misleading. What they don’t tell you is the “in app purchase” version uses a 2017 card. I appreciate that the developer is in business but tell us before downloading and installing that there is a fee to use an up to date card.

Learning the card. This is the very best way to learn the new 2021 card. I play on my cell phone and I’m much more comfortable than I would be just playing in an in-person game.

Question. Has this app changed from free (using older cards) to paid subscription only?

Learning the new card. This is such a wonderful help to learn the new card and start to understand some of the new combinations.
