The best option for OCR. I’m having a great experience using this app so far. The text recognition works as good as advertised and being capable to translate and hear the text is great!

Fits the Hype. Gotta say I’m content so far, although text formatting needs a little more work. Apart from that everything else works just fine.

scummy business practice. just list the price at 3.00 right off the bat. you're toying with customers perceptions. if you believe your product is quality, stand behind it with a price tag. Most things that ARE good are going to cost money on the app store. Not to single you out, a lot of these apps on this store have the same annoying tactic.

Misleading. I needed an OCR for a quick text grab and this app comes up as free, yet to even copy the text it costs $3!!! Just put that up front! I’m not paying for that because I needed it for two seconds and I don’t want to spend 3 bucks to scan one item.

Best one available. I tried all of them and this one works best. I tried the free ones as well but they messed up on the text too much. This one did the best job and is well worth the $2.99 to upgrade.

The best text scanner. Of all the options this app is the one that suits me best. It’s super easy and intuitive!

Could improve. Works pretty well, just wish we could be able to change the reading speed for easier use, it would definitely help out a ton. I just think for 3 dollars it should be more convenient and changing voice speed seems like a simple yet important fix.

App open straight into camera. Somehow I dislike that this app open straight into active camera view. I would have liked the ability to activate the camera myself. Perhaps this should be in the settings? Actually. Never mind. This app is no good. Making too many mistakes.

Probably best bet for OCR. It seems everyone is going towards the subscription model, which I hate. I looked at many OCR apps and no matter what the description said, they always ended up in some subscription model. A lot of deceptive marketing out there. This app still kind of tricks you though. You download it and the OCR works, UNLESS you want to actually edit or copy that text. Behold the in-app purchase. It’s $1.99, but it’s a one-time fee to unlock that feature. I don’t think they had to hide that. The app is useless unless you pay it. Why not just say the app is not free, it’s $1.99? It’s totally worth that and I think given the other options out there, this is the best choice. Maybe not the most beautiful, but extremely intuitive. The accuracy is okay, but I’ll let you in on a little secret, everyone uses the same open source OCR library. So, the greatest influencer on accuracy is the quality and contrast of the scan. So I bought this app. If you want to buy another prettier one and pay $2.00 a month for some other app (for the rest of you life since you will likely forget you are paying) more power to you.

FREE VERSION IS Useless unless you BUY FULL version. The free version is totally useless it doesn’t let you copy the text or do anything with it . I don’t have a problem paying because it’s not very pricey but I won’t buy it because I feel it’s misleading to put a “ free version “ that is 100% useless.

Landscape?. Text Capture is superior to all other capture apps I’ve used. It would be a 5+ with two modifications: 1. A Landscape mode so I won’t need to twist my iPad around. 2. An “eraser” to eliminate background texts in screen shots with stray “characters”. High Priority for #1, not so important #2. Thanks for designing such a superior text capturing core!

Good stuff. This is saving me a ton of time. It’s accurate for the 2 pages I have scanned so far. I tried another one before this and did like 5 pages and it was not very accurate at all. Go with this one.

Scam. It’s a “free” app but what they don’t tell you is that if you want to edit, copy, export, or literally anything else with the text, you have to pay. The “free” scan just sits there on your phone, unusable. Immediately deleted.

Great App !!!. I found this app browsing and I couldn’t be happier!! My son is multi-lingual and this app is great for his studies. Just point and shoot and the text is copied...then you have multiple options to edit, translate (his favorite part) or read it back aloud (my favorite part). Look forward to seeing this easy to use app grow.

Fantastic!! no complaints!. this ocr has far exceeded my expectations in every way. speed, accuracy, ease of use. i have a very well reviewed desktop scanner, and this iphone ocr beats it in terms of speed hands down - no comparison - and the accuracy seems about equal - both high enough for my use. perhaps one or two errors every 100 characters. i’m a law school student with lots of reading and writing, and this has really changed the way i work. scan text, email editable file to laptop, cut and paste, do whatever you want to do, all seamlessly. no more manual typing to create an editable file. am i going over the top if i were to say that this product has delivered the greatest expectation-to-actual-result positive ratio among anything i’ve ever owned? i don’t think so. for a cup of coffee. when are you coming out with the capability to ocr asian language? that’s what i’m waiting for. you have set a very high standard for yourself.

Great App. I have been looking at all different OCR apps for a school project. This one is easily top 3. Can i ask what OCR model you are using?

Bad. Doesn’t let you actually copy the text without a purchase. In fact, pretty much anything you want this for other than putting the text on a new picture so you can read it better is paywalled. That means you gotta buy it

Worst app ever. If I could give it half a star I would. It’s just another app that claims it’s free and wants you to pay them a subscription for a service your only going to use once when u have a problem. I found another app that’s acually free I’m disappointed I even waisted my time writing this.

Useless unless you pay. I mean I would pay for extra features, but if I have to pay to just copy text, that’s pointless. Basically you turn an uploaded picture into useless text, that is equivalent of a picture, because you can’t interact with the text. Also, the text is out of place.

RE: Text Capture is Excellent. Text Capture is one of the best OCR's I've seen in a long time. I notice many of the negative reviews are from people who complain it's not free (hardly an unbiased review). I did a quick scan from a photo and the process was flawless. Attempting the same using TextGrabber by ABBYY, I kept getting "unable to recognize the image" error every time using the same photo. I am very satisfied with this app, and am done searching for any more of this type. Highly recommended!

Pay to Use. To preform the function of the app (copying text from a photo) you have to pay for premium. So unless you just wanna re-read the document you scanned this app does nothing.

Doesn’t work. I bought this app to use specifically for the fact that it would read the scanned pages out loud and it won’t read it. It scans the page but then when I hit the read button, nothing happens. Total waste of my money which I would like back please.

Tap anywhere on the screen to start the OCR. Using the button takes a steady finger with a good aim when I should be looking at and framing what to capture. 3. Capture in Landscape. 4. Deceptive. When you download, you can do the following for free: scan the image. You cannot copy, edit, or do anything else with what you have scanned. There is a one time fee of $3.99, which is not expensive, but this should not be considered a free app due to the fact that you can do virtually nothing with the free version.

Not really useful. I really needed this for school because of accesibility purposes after I missed a week and needed to catch up while away, only to find out you have to pay to copy text? Rather, you have to pay to do ANYTHING to or with the text? It completely defeats the purpose in my opinion. I entirely understand the payed purchase neccessity, but what am I going to do after scanning the text? Stare at it? I already have the writing in front of me, why would I need to scan it if I didn’t need to export or edit it? If you plan on using this app, plan on not using it at all unless you want to pay for it. It isn’t a high price at all, but I personally don’t think it’s worth it. I would rather find a different app. And I apologize if there is some other use of text that isn’t copying, exporting, or editing, I’m just not aware of any :) Also, it caught all the text really well, so if I were able to use it it would be really useful. The only things is that since I can’t edit, when it finds excess text on the screen from tabs or keys, you can’t change that.

Been needing this!. I like this app... It works really well and the premium content is cheaper than other text scanners.

Can a saved scan be deleted?. I really like the app and it works about as good as I would expect. I haven’t encountered any significant issues. Sometimes the text is misspelled or is formatted incorrectly it these issues are easily solved.

Best!. Love the app it’s user friendly! This tool is great when you have a-lot of reading for class. When you choose the option READ a robotic voice is weird but once you figure out how to change that function its really cool.

Multi-functional,Nice price. Save and name the scanned text as a separate text collection in the app. Save text from image as text file for any text doc app. Scanner recognizes many types of characters/symbols besides standard letters,numbers. So it makes for a decent BASIC text editor. Definitely worth the $ for what I need it for.

Garbage app. Requires you to pay 4bucks to copy the texts you get from the app with as little as I do something like this I assume it’s similar for most people. I won’t pay for something so trivial when I’m sure there’s gonna be an app to do it for free. I’m off to find it now maybe this will help someone save time.

Corrected update:“Share” button doesn’t work but it “just works” fine otherwise. The “Share” button resumed working for me. I can’t account for the variation after a few days, but I apologize to the developer. I also thank him for his response. I have added a deserved 5th star. #1 I really like the honest simplicity of one payment, no password hassle, no ads! No external drives or sites to mess with! #2. The “Share” button stopped working for me, although the other buttons (“Edit”, “Copy”) work fine. Thus no fifth star. #3. The interface is clear and intuitive. #4. The scans are good or pretty good on small jobs like business cards. Whole pages need some cleaning up unless you can hold the camera very, very steady. But the Edit mode tends to suggest the right correction when a misspelled word is clicked on. #5. In sum, worth the money—though I’ll appreciate a working “Share” button.

What a surprise. This app works like magic! You dont have to tap buttons or navigate through screens. Just point the camera at text and it just works! Amazing!!!

Consider allowing other dimensions for cropping. This app is perfect and helps me with text to speech for many of my classes. I have a lot of reading to do, but learn better when text is read back to me. The only issue i have is that when I upload images, I can only fit them into a square box. Because of this, i will have to upload the same page two times so I can get both the top and bottom. It would be nice if I could customize the dimensions instead. Thanks!

Before downloading - read this. Please realize that this app has ZERO UTILTY unless you pay the $3.99 they’re asking for it. You can “demo” the capture, but you can’t copy, share, or do a n y t h i n g with the text without paying first.

It doesn’t read then I turned on silent mode off. 1. So I think this would be common mistake but too common and many people wouldn’t know what to do. Could use a warning. 2. The instant capture doesn’t take proper punctuation so it will read weird. Instead take picture and use this app to scan and read to hear more natural reading 3. With that said this app should have camera feature, so I don’t have to take pictures out side and import to here. I mean if I was going to take multiple steps and gestures, there are free options ^^ Overall good app. Best I can find.

Great app that works surprisingly well!. The OCR is remarkably accurate and competes with other big developer apps for a fraction of the price! my only downside is that sometimes the text comes out with random spacing that you have to edit out. Fantastic. works really well, i appreciate being able to see live feedback to know if the picture is clear enough. one feature i’d rlly like is the ability to rotate the capture field - atm it only occasionally works when looking at words at a funny angle - this can be manually fixed by taking screenshot and editing, but would be v nice if it were a part of the app!

This is ok With no monthly membership. I was looking for actual hardware for this , but then the notion of an app for phone came to mind , a 6 $ one time charge a after downloading ; but it works you take a picture and reads it for you

Not very useful. Allows you to scan into words but after that you have to pay to do anything with it, even the most basic stuff (i.e. copy, share, edit) so the words are on the screen and that’s it so pretty useless overall

good, until..... i downloaded it because i had a long page of homework to read, and physically couldn’t read all of it, so i got this and it was very accurate, unfortunately if you actually want to use it, you have to pay. very disappointed

It scans the text of your images (if the text is VERY clear) Then it doesn’t let you do anything with it Meaning all you can do is read it, and screenshot it, and a screenshot makes no sense since that’s also an image???? If you pay for it, you can do things with it- But at that point might as well have the app be paid for right off the bat

Not accurate enough. I use the app to copy LoraWAN DevEUI's (32 characters printed clearly on a box). The app gets z's mixed up with 2's. Not good enough.
