Once again it has broken my setup. Who runs this product? I cringe every time there is an update, and this one is no exception. My volume controls for my denon receivers have all stopped working. Please for the love of the universe, stop making unnecessary changes. You are not going to replace HomeKit or google, pick your product area and your key customer and make them love your product. I expect that your goal is to to retain customers like me who have complex av systems and multi person families who benefit from ease of use of tech. If this is the case, you should be looking at existing configuration to find the most common components, setups, and integrations and then regression test simulated versions of them before you release new software. Seems to me you are testing new setups from scratch, and maybe that works fine, but you are always breaking your more tenured customers setups. I have managed to simplify my life in one system down to an appletv running everything, including on/off and volume - motivated by being able to stop using roomie. So for that system I have achieved a roomie-free situation that is perfect. For my theater, there is a lot more going on and it helps to have roomies ability to integrate and automation controls. Unfortunately instead of being excited about roomie, I spend time like a clever squirrel trying to find another path and look forward to the day I can finally fire you, and stop paying hundreds of dollars a year.

Need support for other cable and Sat service. Why can’t you support at lease Xfinity ?? , for years it has just been direct tv and dish . Needs super for other cable networks .

No luck. I wanted to like this app. I badly need something like what it promises. Unfortunately it would not control my Anthem MRX 520 AVR. Without ability to control volume its pretty much useless. It does seem to work with AppleTV 4K very well and I did get it to power my Sony XBR TV just fine. This is the problem with all of these types of apps and remotes I think. There are just too many different devices out there and I realize its difficult to support all of them. All it takes is lack of support for one critical component and the utility of the product is severely diminished. In this case they claim to support my brand of AVR but it’s clear they don’t. I cancelled my trial subscription and spending several hours trying to get this to work.

Works Great. Been using for about five years. Granted support could be better, but the program works great.

Run!. I have been using Roomie Remote and Simple Control for years. I have a super simple set up, 1 Tv and 1 Apple TV. With each update it becomes harder to use. With this update a blank full screen gesture pad pops up when watching the Tv with no way to exit. Then you get to play the fun game of rotating your screen and trying to hit the room button as it whizzes by. I’ve turned gesture pad off, but it’s still pay more get less.

Great App but.... With the latest update, the keyboard behavior for Appletv is messed up. Search by entering text then pressing “go” does nothing. The keyboard does not go away so nothing works. You have to open Apptv remote to go forward. I am afraid to contact them since for every problem the reply is “Not aware of this problem. Try to recreate activity again” If I have find better alternative to this, I would switch in heartbeat. It’s a good app but support is no longer great. And every update brings new set of problems.

Worth the effort. Roomie has really evolved since the birth of the app! I has taken me awhile to get in and learn the functionality of Roomie. I am actually still learning how to work allot of the endless options Roomie provides! I would give Roomie a five star rating the one issue I have is customer service could be better.

Good but not great. The app is user friendly but it’s sharing capabilities are terrible, besides being too expensive for what it offers.

Great home control functionality at a low cost. I've been using this app for many years through many versions and it's still my go to app for home control. I couldn't manage my home without it.

Pitiful. Don’t waist your time or money. Bait and switch.. I was a happy user of Roomie Remote from 2012. Had purchased the unlimited license. ($$$). Spent the money on the hardware and loads of time passing the steep learning curve. Well they changed names to simple control and functionality stayed the same for a while. Then they stopped supporting the app all together. They developed a newer app marketed towards the home user. (called Roomie Remote again). This requires a whole new purchase. Since I had already invested a couple hundred dollars in hardware, stupid me bought the new app($$$) and began setting it up. -Application crashes periodically. -A whole new learning curve. -Horrible setup manual. (Vague) -No video tutorials. After spending hours setting up devices and activities and withstanding the crashes, I had a couple quick questions that should be easily answered by a knowledgeable representative. I emailed product support. What a joke. Incredibly rude and condescending. No support. Zero. I was told to read the setup manual again or hire an integrator. I definitely was not expecting that after spending this kind of money. Unless you have loads of time on your hands to perform trial and error type tasks within this software, stay far away. You will get absolutely no support from this company. Pitiful.

Not reliable. Constantly having to restore home. Room devices keep disappearing or functions change for activities. To top it off, the subscription keeps getting higher and higher. Will be forced to look elsewhere for more reasonable options… More and more of my devices use the FREE Home Assistant… Greed is pricing them out of range…

Zero Stars. If you have standard devices, then maybe you can tolerate their app. It’s not very intuitive, it’s hard to program. It feels old. And if you have a support question, then good luck. Their documentation is hard to read from a mobile device, yet they require you to submit support tickets that way. Their technical support staff are smug, vague and generally unhelpful. I wouldn’t use this app if it were free. It’s been the most aggravating app experience ever. Don’t waste time on their 1-week free version. You’ll just end up frustrated like I am.

Simple, beautiful interface for integrating multiple systems. I’ve gone back and forth for a long time to try to find a good looking interface for controlling g everything around the home. There are systems that do it well, like control 4 and Savant, but those are really expensive and I don’t want to hire an integrator. There are completely DIY options like Home Assistant that just don’t look as good. Roomie Remote is a great balance between those two extremes. I just hope the folks at Roomie Remote continue to invest in the platform by adding new integrations and options. I haven’t needed tech support or requested it but I do hope they recognize that their true market is likely tech saavy folks that don’t want to hire an integrator. Users might need a little guidance and assistant from time to time getting everything set up properly and it would really help the platform get adopted if they invested in providing some tech support to users beyond bug reports. I’m in the process of getting a ton more Apple gear and iPort mounts so I can roll this out all over my house. Since the app is so configurable, I’m sure I’ll find more ways to integrate new stuff and make it even more useful over time!

Not what it was once. I’ve had this app from the original Roomie Remote, which worked good, then it went to Simple Control which eventually I had working flawlessly and integrated with Alexa. Now this new Roomie Remote is so garbage, Alexa works when it wants too, when I change the volume it take almost 10 seconds for it to actually change. Very disappointed, switching back too Logitech Harmony. Good luck

Don’t buy this. It’s a lot of set up that doesn’t work very well at all it will not give you a remote for your TV using your iPhone or iPad it’s a scam it’s a rip off

Highly Capable App but Homekit Devices are limited on all plans but Pro. This is a highly capable and reliable app that I have used for years, including the legacy Simple Control app. There is a pretty steep learning curve so be prepared to invest a fair amount of time up front to learn how to use it. The lengthy manual is informative and I found that to be the best way to gain an understanding on how to start with the app. Now for the paid subscriptions. If you use Homekit devices in your home and would like to be able to control them from within the Roomie app, you will likely need the $100 per year Pro subscription. This is why. Even though the Home Complete $60 plan says that it supports unlimited devices, pay attention to the 5 room limitation. If you have Homekit devices in more than 5 rooms of your home (as defined in the Apple Home app), you will only be able to see and control the Homekit devices in 5 rooms. If you add a Homekit smart plug to the sixth room and want to control it, the Pro subscription will be required. So while you may only have a total of 6 Homekit devices in your home and each is in a different room, you will have to choose which 5 you want to control from within Roomie if you select the Home Complete subscription for $60/yr. Most homes have more than 5 rooms where Homekit devices might be located, and if your home is like this, you will need to get the Pro $100/yr plan to control those Homekit devices from within the Roomie app.

Working on some things. I am currently partnering with them on some issues. We will see.

Won’t stay open on iPhone. It works great on my iPad but won’t stay open on my iPhone 12. I can’t submit a support ticket since you have to do it through the app. I’m on my 7 day free trial, but without it working on my iPhone it’s of little use to me.

Rhymes with puck off. This app: Give us your email address and then we’ll show you how the app works and whether it even uses IR to communicate with wired devices. Me:Ugh. Fine here. But I’m not actually logged in so don’t mail it. This app: Great. Now give us $90 and then we’ll show you how the app works and whether it even uses IR to communicate with wired devices. Me: …

Can I give zero stars?. Another long-time user who has bought every single version of the app, from the first one onwards. It used to be one of the very best apps on my phone. Now, the word “garbage” is not sufficiently insulting for this train-wreck of an app. It. Just. Doesn’t. Work. Except when it does. Then, it. Just. Doesn’t. Work. Again. It’s beyond frustrating. I’m not even sure I can come up with a stronger word to describe it. Basically, I have to relaunch the app pretty much every time I use it. The mute/volume button works only when it feels like it. It turns the TV on... occasionally. It controls my AppleTV maybe 10% of the time. The rest of the time, nothing. So after all these years of using just Roomie/SimpleControl/Roomie, I now need my AppleTV remote, Samsung TV remote, FireTV remote, plus the Denon app for my a/v receiver and the Apple Rote app, all next to me if I actually want to watch TV. And I absolutely *love* it when I tell Alexa to mute, and it turns the TV off. Brilliant!

It works when it works. This is an app for someone who understands modern tv and audio equipment and who understands programming. For the rest of us, an application installed and maintained by a professional is probably the better choice. Clunky user interface, too.

Love this app. We just speak all our commands to control the tv. It’s great. It no longer matters who is holding the remote. Haha. No remote ! Just your voice. So a lot of frustration is removed. I love it. As does my husband. ( the past holder of the remote) This is easy. One time we thought it wasn’t working, but it turned out to be the tv itself that had a glitch and had to be re booted. So Roomie was waiting patiently and in full working order.

Les test update is amazing!!!. Running a 13 room system with this thing with multiple users. Can’t say enough good about the latest upgrade. But any issues I had in the past are gone. It just keeps getting better. What used to cost thousands of dollars for a custom control system can now be accomplished with a few hours of your own time at a minimal cost. And works way better than any system I’ve ever had before. Flawless!!!!!!!!!

Junk - no support, forums are worthless. Can’t change zone 2 inputs on Yamaha receiver when selecting Zone 2 on the device. Forum is worthless because people have been asking same questions for years and no response from the developer. Try to file a support ticket and they only accept app only support tickets when I don’t use Apple Mail…Goodbye Roomie. Not paying 50 a year subscription for broken app with no support.

Harmony integration. Wow this is a great new feature...it opens up a host of options ! Good job !!

Terrible Support. I used this product for years and then after they upgraded the version to 8.X, the API stopped working for some activities. After numerous messages for assistance, their responses where very demeaning. Like I never used their product before or I was doing something wrong. Canceling my subscription. Hope their management sees this. Loyal customer for over 8 years.

Problem with latest update. Latest updates cuts off my app…

Lifetime Subscription?. What happened to the lifetime subscription?

Subscription status. I have one but the app keeps asking for it and I have to tap “restore” every day! So annoying!

Zero Customer Support. I have owned every single version of this app since its inception. Although it can be a very powerful app, their lack of customer support and documentation is beyond frustrating. Trying to contact support only leads to further frustration as you will receive a reply that is antagonistic at best! Actually beyond rude! How this company remains in business is beyond me!

Why can’t Roomie keep up to date?. Why can’t Roomie keep up to date?

Disappointed.. I’ve been a long time customer. I’ve been through many upgrades. While I do like the interface it works half as well. Silly things like loosing connection to appleTv’s, the receiver not turning on or off. Have to force close multiple times. And yes I have gone as far as rebuilding the activities and firmware updates multiple times. Somehow through all of this my yearly fee doubled and I have to pay for another phone on my account to get it to work. I also was billed for another year of simple control which I upgraded from. Harmony remote may actually be less expensive in the long run.......

Fooled Again. Loved the original Roomie Remote - all the way up until the original one-time lifetime purchase was rendered useless when they quit supporting newer equipment basically forcing us to “upgrade” to their new improved Simple Control. But that was certainly no upgrade - it was/is horribly laggy and devoid of key features like the video scrubbing bar that made Roomie awesome - and don’t even get me started about the hub that was required to run multiple devices. Was excited when the new Roomie was released - the perfectly misleading promo picture shows a scrubbing bar like the old app had so immediately paid to “upgrade” once again (this time voluntarily and enthusiastically). Only to find out the supposedly new app is EXACTLY like Simple Control. Still laggy AF and absolutely no sign of a video scrubbing bar. By now am very of being slapped in the face by these people.

Do Not Buy! Scam!. This app has become a joke. When it started it was great but with every update it has gotten worse and more expensive. Not sure what I paid for but I will be getting refunded immediately. Had issues upgrading from v5 and when I contacted support, they were dismissive and rude. I’m offended by this company that I once thought made a good product. Save yourself the headache and find a different solution. Roomie Remote doesn’t value their customers and refuses to help them past a draft email then blaming others for it not working. Unprofessional and a borderline scam. Thanks for nothing Roomie Remote. You just lost a loyal customer of 6 years.

Worst support you’ve ever dealt with. They change the app every other year, and you have to purchase it every time. I can deal with that (even though it feels dishonest as they sell an unlimited plan), but what’s worse, is their support. Read feedback on their old app, Simple Control, or before that, the same app with this name. Go look as AVS forums for honest feedback. The team that runs this app treat their customer terribly. They filter their official forum (you cannot post without every single post being reviewed), and if you ask for support, they talk down to you, demean you, and are awful. In numerous cases, they’ve blamed me until I’ve shown them screenshots of their manual, or said the issue was on my end, only for them to later admit that their app isn’t compatible. In 100% of the cases, they are disrespectful. My biggest advice, is don’t get yourself involved in this echo system. While the app itself is good (providing you want to never stop paying for it), you’ll get zero support. You’ve even warned. And I hope the devs take the to heart (I’m looking at you Will).

Loses Subscription Often. Maddening in that I’m subscribed & too often it will tell me I’m not. Restore purchases does not work.

When it works its great. Have been using this for 3 years under Simple Control. Worked great. Went to move to new roomie remote and after it moved my old config in, power off activity stopped working. Submitted a bug report and was told not a bug, go hire an installer. Wrote back it worked and then it didn’t and waited for reply. In mean time looked at simple control setup and found roomie remote was missing all power off function in the room setup. Re-did config and now fixed. Reply back came and told me power off was missing and basic trouble shooting would have found such a simple problem, don’t bother them and find an installer for such stupid problems. If you get it to work you will love it, if it doesn’t work, good luck on getting any help, it won’t come from the app creator.

Roomie for the Win. Roomie remains the leading remote/home automation app. It’s so far superior to anything else available on the market and even better then many other high end system with five figure price tags. Each update becomes more reliability, more features and always demonstrates a clear focus on what it’s users crave.

Roomie Remote v.7 is simply the best remote control app available. Period.. I’ve been using Roomie from the start and through its segue as Simple Control and then back. I’m so glad Will and the gang are back on track. This latest version and their revised purchase/subscription plans with Family Sharing and free access to the app for guests eliminates a lot of the annoyances of previous versions. Yes, the app isn’t what I would consider inexpensive, but nothing on the market comes close to offering what Roomie can do all in one simple and clean interface without installing an all encompassing proprietary home automation system. With Roomie, you can press a button to control (or voice command) all your AV gear, lights, scenes, cameras, etc. from various vendors and using multiple protocols… you’re not limited to just HomeKit devices or just one brand of receiver or lighting control… you can use just about anything and have them all work together under Roomie.

Confusing Setup. Rude support. Lack of device support.. I really wanted this app to work for me. I spent quite a while figuring it out, the setup is not intuitive. It didn’t support my receiver so I wrote s custom integration (despite their device integration API being almost impossible to find). But it only partially works. Reached out to support and they told me that contacting them will make it less likely that they will support my receiver. Crazy!

Used to be awesome. I’ve had this app for several iterations - from Roomie to simple remote, back to roomie. I used to have it on multiple phones, iPads, and it worked mostly flawlessly, even with Alexa. It has been nothing but frustration since it went back to Roomie. With regularity, it “loses” my subscription and it takes a full evening to fix (17 arcane steps) and is not reliable so it must be repeated. It’s infuriating. It says it supports family sharing but the subscription can’t be shared among members even though Apple made a fix to support this so the issue is back on the developer. Again - I used to love this and recommend it but cannot do so any longer. It’s one step from being booted out of my house like Xfinity for non-performance.

Functional but difficult to use. While this app can actually control most devices, it is painful to configure and offers almost no control over the button layout. The user interface for setting up activities and commands violates almost every principle of good UX design — it will easily add hours to tasks that should take minutes. Simple commands are hidden in pop up menus in weird places, everything takes a million taps to complete a task, etc. I could forgive that… but the last straw was the complete lack of control over button layout. For example, the default for my A/V processor has a big volume control in the center, and a logo under it you can press to open a tray with every other command stuffed in it. Nothing else, tons of blank space to either side of the volume on my iPad. I can add custom buttons to the panel with the volume, but it gives zero control over position. It stacks them below the volume making the whole UI scroll rather than use all that blank space. Very frustrating. For how expensive this app is… it is something only the developer who wrote it could love.

tvOS 15 NOT compatible for all, disregard the app update description. I upgraded my Apple TV to tvOS 15 after the latest update, which indicates that it is now compatible. The app now provides no control of my Apple TV. I was essentially told by support that I am at fault for not reading their support forums before updating, even though the app description clearly states that it is compatible with tvOS 15. Apparently it works for some people, but all.

Don’t update to 8.0.0!. So they just released 8.0.0 and now you have to Sign In with Apple and comes up with a screen to create a new account and no other options. So no idea if my configuration would be restored so not going there. Classic Roomie screw-up, cue the raging cigar-chomped blaming his customers. Update: I have one device I didn’t update still have 7.4.0 and I’ll be able to restore old version from iMazing backup. Incredible they would release new version that just throws up a “create an account” page for existing users and no instructions for existing users.

Roomie is Gloomy. Who knows how good this software is because the training materials and support is terrible. A few others have said the same

Buyers be Aware 7-Day Trial is 3 Day Trial???. When you go to subscription for $6.99/3 months it shows 7-day free trial and when you need to approve it shows 3-day free trial. I contacted their customer support and they claimed it was a bug and wouldn’t honor the 7-days. Customer service is rude and claimed I was abusive when I questioned them about the difference in days. Read the reviews I’m not the only one who experienced the rude service. Do yourself a favor and don’t purchase the app.

Working Great. Long time iRule user here as proprietary systems that require a service call to replace a component drive me nuts and the iRule servers are being shut down. I have multiple rooms so those all in one remote systems don’t fit so well plus they can be kludgey to program. Roomie discovered many of my components that had IP addresses and for the rest, since Roomie works with the Global Cache IR blasters I was already using I had everything set up again in no time! It is a subscription model, but the price is fair and hopefully a revenue stream will keep them providing and supporting this great product. It comes with only a one week free trial but in two days you will see how well it works! Very satisfied subscriber! Update: A year later now, and still working great. My wife has a much easier time with Roomie than she did with iRule.

No support. I cannot make anything work in this new release. Don’t know what I am doing wrong and support is no help. Actually there is no support. At least that is what they tell you when you enter a big report.

Everything is great until it is not!. This review will be split in 2 sections: A) On the App and B) Support The App - I think it’s a great product and I have been using it since the very early days - 5-6 years (maybe more). Widely used and open integrations are great and seamless with a polished UI. Years of work went into the product and refinement is bar-none. Roomie outlived iRule (until acquisition) which was its only competitor and shines today as the only DIY IP Based remote. Power users have plenty to work with as well to define automations, etc... Here I probably would rate them a well deserved 5! However... Today, having a great product is not enough and support is equally important. I paid for the product a lot or a little like everyone else where support is included. Most things you can figure out yourself or get through forum - I am cool with that. Now, however, I am having an issue migrating to V6 of their product from V5 (and can’t take advantage of the previously paid-for licensing) and support is short of abrasive, disrespectful and unresponsive. Great product - 0 service. Will update the review if anything changes. Till then, enjoy 1 star ;) Sorry for the rant!

Excellent. I have used many versions of this app over the years for one reason, it is reliable and robust. The amount of compatible devices and the ease of remote layout and design makes us the perfect option for me in my household. I highly recommend it for anyone that has a lot of smart home devices and audiovisual equipment. It is great having a remote that will control my home theater, the thermostat, the lights, and will bring up my security cameras all in one interface.

Needy and annoying. Prompts for feedback and a review every time I attempt to power a room. I run a primary instance on a headless Mac Mini, and every freaking time the app is updated it wants me to sign in to my apple account. The first I know of this is the whole setup stops working. Why? If there was an workable alterntaive I would have binned this app long ago. At present its best described as Hostageware.

Works well a few issues. Updated from SimpleControl 5, home syncing works well after a few issues. I’m glad I have version 5 subscription otherwise I think the pricing for new is quite restrictive, I have 20 devices and that will only grow over time.

Plans changes reduce features and increase price.. Custom code functionality was available in all but the lowest tier is now only in pro subscriptions. I have 4 devices and am now faced with spending $100 to simply to support a single DAC with custom codes. I’ve used Roomie from the early days prior to the Simple Control fiasco. I’ve now canceled my subscription.

Great app, terrible interface. Roomie remote used to be great for its configurability. The recent versions have removed most of the customization resulting in an awkward set up process. This would be a 5 out of 5 if it brought back the WYSIWYG design.

Best universal remote for iPhone or iPad. Best universal remote for iPhone and iPad. Excellent system integration. I have Just Add Power multiple TVs cameras and Lutron RA2 lighting. This new remote makes integration a snap.

Intuitive and functional. After moving up from previous versions and some time to adjust to the new layout , I must admit , it’s very good!

Doesn’t work. The old app works great new one not at all don’t upgrade.

It’s broken!. Updated…Version 7.01 solved the problem…..Thanks! The only thing that seems to make it work is if I close all apps and reboot the IPad. Please fix ASAP!——This has been fixed!

Love this app. Have been using this app for many years. Best and most affordable for home remote control whether it’s a single media room our maple rooms. Controls wide range of AV, lighting, home control, and other devices and very DYI configurable. Very well maintained regularly updated, and well supported through the app and online forum by the developers and active user community.

Mac App is a Companion App to iOS App. I've read some negative reviews about the MacOS version of this app and I think it should be clarified that the Mac App is really meant to be a companion app to the IOS and iPadOS apps. Roomie is really intended to be used with a touch screen like an iPhone or an iPad, but I've give a lot of props to the developer for taking the time to develop a Mac dedicated app. The Mac version of the App works exactly like it's iOS and iPadOS counterparts and can also be used as an always-on "hub", which isn't necessary for most features, but a nice option for more advanced features. While I understand that some people may be turned off by the subscription model/fee, I find it to be worth the money because a) I can control all of my TVs and media players throughout my house without any additonal hardware, b) the developer is consistently updating the app and adding new features (and is also very active on the forum and c) there aren't any better options in the market that do what this app does now that Harmony has shut down. I really wish the developer would consider developing a physical remote that other family members could use, but I'm assured this will never happen. Nevertheless, I can't criticize the app or the developer for this since that's not the business model here and the product is really solid on its own. The front-end/UI of the app is an absolute gem. I have a hard time finding any room for improvement. The setup/backend process, however, leaves a bit to be desired. While not horrible, it's not as straight forward and easy to use as say the Harmony Hub setup process. I will admit, however, once you figure out the activity setup process you'll find that it's a bit more powerful than the Harmony Hub. I've been an Apple user for years and while I hate subscription models, this is one I can support because the developer is constantly improving this app, adding features and keeping it awesome. And the subscription model is much more reasonable than it once was. Now, if you're household has TVs and Audio devices that are older and not network connected or compatible with Roomie, than I suggest looking elsewhere. But for those that are looking for perhaps a Harmony replacement or a new toy to play with, this app is polished and supports a wide range of devices, so it's not some cheap fly by night app that supports only one brand. This app is legit with a very acrive developer.

Worthless. Do not buy this. Total garbage.

Disappointing. The move to this “RoomieRemote” version provides no significant benefits over previous “SimpleControl” version and costs more.

Getting worse and worse. I’ve been a user and customer for many years and this software keeps getting worse and worse. I started with the original Roomie and then SimpleControl, which worked just fine. But when suddenly it stopped controlling my DVD player I reached out to support who told me I needed to upgrade to V6 or they wouldn’t help me. I did that and still have the same problem. The next step they say is to go through a complex process to get it to read my subscription. That might be worth it if they hadn’t also raised their prices to ridiculous levels. I now pay $10 per year for 10 devices and I only need 5. Their new lowest rate is $40 for a year for 8 devices. It just isn’t worth it to me for this solution and especially if I need to spend hours trying to fix it with no guarantee. I wasted the upgrade fee and am walking away. Sad.

What happened? New update buggy AF. 6.7.3 is a bonk. System of icon dead, mic icon flashing on and off constantly. Please fix this!

Can't try anything!. I cannot try a single feature of this app!! At every step you'll get a message saying that a subscription is required. I totally understand if this is a paid service only, but why wasting our time, but creating a free version with in-app purchase, when there's nothing to use, try, or test unless you purchase a subscription???

Best App for A/V Remote Control. If you are looking for a way to fully control your home’s A/V devices, this is it. Easy to program and setup all your devices in every room of your house. Once setup you can put all your remote controls away and control your home with your iOS devices or with the new Roomie Remote for macOS. In addition to controlling all your Audio and Video devices you can also control your HomeKit accessories, your Smart Thermostats, and much more. If you are a DIY type of person, I highly recommend this App.

And it’s crashed again. Last update wiped out everything. Did get a response from tech support. Full page of fine print instructions to re synchronize. I’m done here. There’s a lot more on the market now than when Roomie remote began. Really wanted to like this, been trying to keep it running since it first came out but way too often they’ve got us starting from scratch. There are better, less expensive options now. Just paid 1 year subscription and it’s useless. Replaced the whole clunky, unreliable, getting slower all the time mess for $17.00. Does all this is supposed to do with the exception of the on screen guide. That never worked very well anyway. Spend my money wisely dude, it’s all you will get.

Pestering. Going with one star because it would not stop forcing me to write a review. Ridiculously annoying.

Complete garbage. Long time Roomie user. Roomie used to be a lifetime app. Had a ver 5.7 subscription for 30 devices for 29.99 a year. Roomie recommended to use an Apple TV as a dedicated hub. Bought an Apple TV never worked properly as a Hub. Now Roomie is abandoning the Hub altogether. Purchased new ver 6.0. And upgraded to 69.99 unlimited devices. Ver 6.0 does not work at all. Upgrades are supposed to be prorated but they are not. Contacted support. Support is non existent. Roomie used to be great now it is complete garbage. Don’t waste your money.

Cumbersome. Cumbersome to setup, didn’t detect all devices on my network, and didn’t seem to support many devices (e.g., smart speaker).

Not worth it. Not worth the price. Just buy a new remote

Best Universal Control App.. For the home automation enthusiast that loves DIY this is the app for you.

More money. Can’t transfer subscription from old app.

Great control system!. Now that I can write and modify ASC II strings directly into my controlled custom devices has made it so much easier to modify things when controlling these devices. HDMI matrix switch was driving me crazy with EDID management. Was able to fix that. And my Centralite lighting control system is now easier to control because I can easily modify the light dimming percentages with a simple ASC II code change. My only issue I’m experiencing is if I made a programming change on my wife’s devices inside her iCloud, they aren’t coming over to my devices in my iCloud. Or Apple ID. This hadn’t been a problem previously. All in all though, this is by far the best controller on the market. For a normal person just controlling AV gear, all the way to my house with 13 rooms of AV equipment, hardwired lighting control, and several custom devices using IR, IP, and serial control. Even the babysitter and in-laws can use it. Fantastic!

Upgrading is a bad idea. As a loyal customer for 3 years, I was excited about this update. When I noticed that it's now a paid app (on both iOS and MacOS versions) and that the new subscription model offers fewer devices for more money, I was hesitant since we just played this game 2 years ago when we had to adapt to their decision to completely change direction. The new "philosophy" sounded like repackaged BS from the last new philosophy and that goes hand in hand with the repackaging of the same app. All that resulted from the upgrade was more spent money (potentially a lot more) and a loss of functionality that the version 6 documentation fails to mention. In fact, it claims that v6 "eliminates all of the complexity of Simple Hub while retaining the related functionality and improving upon it" when in reality it eliminates the ability to add your Mac as a device and be able to control it through the app. This was THE selling point that made me become a customer in the first place. The "What's New" documentation ignores this altogether and the User Manual is almost identical to V5's with the exception of this feature. Their "support" team has historically left much to be desired. The manuals are written from the perspective of the developer and not that of a new user regardless of their technical skill. Features are buried and often hard to find and emailing them results in either a blaming of a 3rd party (SmartThings, Alexa etc.) or a copy/paste from the documentation, often not relevant to the question accompanied with a flippant suggestion that we haven't read their manuals. In the many years as a customer, not one support request was ever fulfilled without requiring multiple emails, screenshots and forcing them to actually read the question. Getting them to acknowledge that the missing functionality was indeed missing (or ever existed in the first place) took me almost 3 frustrating days and only finally along with claiming that only 5 people used that feature, suggested the Shortcuts app for scripting and when I protested that Shorcuts is iOS-based, said that the ".script run" function would likely be obsolete anyway because Apple, they allege, is likely dropping AppleScript support and that my continued use would be a "super bad idea" and should consider migrating to a newer technology. This obviously ignores the fact that no matter what potential technology that might be, migrating to is pointless if they're killing the base technology (which also included ,Application launch/quit) that allowed for device control. Additionally, their very excuse for charging for Simple Control Service (on top of the $50 Mac license I bought 2 years ago), was remote functionality. This too has been removed in V6 (not the cost however). They recommend a few "good VPNs" -- thanks. The lack of these features and sketchy handling of the issue is (to quote from their admonishment of Nest) a breathtakingly questionable move that one might safely assume the Roomie/Simple (which ironically has been anything but) are unlikely to be a good choice going forward. Besides this issue, the Mac version never successfully synced. It brought in the Devices and Rooms but Activities and Automation open the "Restore Purchases" screen. Of course this was my fault until it wasnt and they admitted that "V5 subscriptions do not properly license the macOS product right now. That should be fixed by 6.0.2 macOS and will require a fix that will either part of 6.0.1 or 6.0.2 iOS depending on when Apple at last reviews it – it has been waiting for them to approve all week so far." But only after I was scolded for my snark in response to the 20 or so condescending presumptions that I was responsible for the problem. I've seriously had it with this company. The only thing that kept loyal has now been removed and in a way I'm glad. To continue to do business with them would condone this nonsense and be almost masochistic at this point.

I WANT A REFUND. APPLE WONT GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK AND THERES NO INFORMATION ON HOW TO CONTACT THESE PEOPLE TO REQUEST A REFUND $50 DOWN THE DRAIN UGH

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!. This is the first app i have ever rated, and i am doing so to prevent others from unsuspectingly ending up in the same situation as i have. We hired an installer to install and configure a whole home automation system in our new home in 2018. After looking at Crestron, Savant, and more, this was the most cost effective and universal platform i reviewed by about $5k. After having the system installed it worked well until we started adding things and upon contacting the original installers, found out the owner basically fired all the installers and was working directly with consumers so there wasn’t any support for the app anymore. I am pretty tech savvy so i took it upon myself to learn some about the app (without making it a full time job) and successfully got the new items added in and functioning well. Then for some reason the app started crashing and i lost control of my home. I contacted tech support and got back a 16 step process that “should” fix my issue. I had to perform this on all 7 devices that the app was installed on. Reluctantly and frustrated, i performed all the steps with no success. I again wrote support to which i received a response “Not sure what that means, either wait or try again, no need to reply until you have finished successfully”. I can go on and on with the rude and unhelpful comments, just want others to be aware of the time and money that purchasing this app will waste. You will be better buying an integrated, supported system. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!

App is ok, support is a joke. The app is fairly decent, although the subscription is horribly overpriced. On top of that, when you contact support the reply comes in form of insults from an individual with a level of arrogance I have rarely seen in my life. Only recommendation is STAY AWAY!!

Easy setup and reliable functionality. I have 6 devices, AV Receiver, TV, multi-room controller, Sonos, TiVo, Blu-ray, two video zones and four audio zones. I already had Global Cache devices for the two non-IP controlled devices. The auto detection was flawless. It took about 7 or 8 hours total of setup. I’m very happy with the end result.

Waste of Time!. In the HOme Theater business and wanted to try this app out. Do Not Bother unless you write code or are a network professional. Nothing worked as advertised. Now I am stuck trying to figure out how to remove the app and not get chard their 60$ yearly fee. Roomie, something with a yearly subscription should not be this difficult to use.

Best smartphone home remote app. When I purchased our new home a few years ago, the previous owner told me he had funded a few college educations via the numerous Crestron upgrades that he had made throughout the ownership of the 8 zone music sound system home, over the past 20 years. Sure enough, when the Crestron installation person showed up to give me a quote me for an overdue Crestron upgrade, the quote came in at $50K, which I definitely was not going to do. Instead, I upgraded a few hardware components and went with Roomie Remote for $100 in year 1 and since then have switched to the perpetual version of Roomie Remote. Note that I resisted the upgrade to Simple Control v5 but have since adapted to everything with v6, given that Roomie Remote v4 finally ended up expiring in 2020. My home has 33 devices and our family ages range from teenager to senior citizen (80+) and middle aged technically illiterate (my wife - her words :-). The devices range from the latest and greatest over the top set top boxes to Verizon FIOS motorola boxes, which still need to be controlled via Infrared. Our Great Room is the toughest room to control, and if we didn’t use Roomie Remote our coffee table would have been filled with remotes and the Verizon set top box would have needed to be present. Instead with Roomie Remote nothing is present except the TV and everyone taps ‘Great Room’ and then they can select any activity ‘watch Verizon FIOS’, ‘watch AppleTV’, ‘watch GoogleTV’, ‘watch FireTV’ or listen to Sonos Spotify or Pandora. For me a great product allows users to mask all the complexity behind the scenes from the end-user. It’s very functional and very intuitive, and while some bumps have definitely occurred along the way (over the past years) with IR firmware updates here and there and transitioning from Airport to Google WiFi mesh and forcing static IPs, this has been much cheaper and faster and better than anything else I’ve been able to come across. Of course I do end up being the front line support for our family, but as the head of the household I’m totally fine with doing so. For support I fall back to google searches and then Roomie Remote remote support when I’m really in a bind. Keep up the great work team since I know that this is a non-trivial app to evolve and maintain given the huge number of moving parts in the smart home ecosystem!!

Nice idea. Version 6 seems to be the worst!! A lot of issues and don’t even try to contact support unless you’re looking for the worst customer support experience you will ever have! Wish I had options for an all in one remote, I would jump in a heartbeat!

$60 a year?. I mean, the functionality of a remote on my computer would be wonderful but not for $60 a year. This is a five dollar app for a lifetime at best.

App seems cool buttt. The app seems cool but it’s to expensive for what it is and limited for what it’s worth unless you have upwards of 100-300 bucks for the unlocked app I had hopes for this but was let down by options price and consumer connections like google home and budget friendly devices
