UNLOCK BETTER SLEEP
Tired of the age-old "eight hours of shut-eye" advice? Go beyond buying a new mattress or pillow and discover the life-changing concept of Sleep Debt.

Scientifically proven to be a vital factor in your well-being, a low Sleep Debt can improve your life quality and even your longevity—while high Sleep Debt can cause fatigue and harm your health.

RISE calculates your Sleep Debt, helps you understand its impact on your energy, and guides you on how to lower it by improving sleeping habits. Learn about your melatonin window, when to prioritize sleep, and understand the real cost of those late nights—and how you can benefit from naps.

PERSONALIZED SLEEP TRACKER
Do you find your mind racing when your head hits the pillow? Can’t stop doom-scrolling on your phone? Feeling fatigued all day?

Based on your sleep data, circadian rhythm, and the latest research, we’ll make recommendations that fit your needs and guide you toward healthier habits, making you a better sleeper.

RISE will get you in bed on time, guide you when you can’t sleep, reduce the times you wake up at night, and make you feel less groggy in the morning.

DISCOVER YOUR CIRCADIAN RHYTHM
We all have an internal brain clock, our circadian rhythm, it signals to our body when to be alert or go into recovery mode. Everyone is unique, from when we perform our best to when we should sleep and wake up, so we use advanced algorithms to find your optimal sleep and activity window.

You’ll gain insight into your circadian rhythm and daily energy levels, helping you plan for a more productive day.

Sleeping refuels energy, and 83% of RISE users feel more energy in a week or less.

AUTOMATICALLY TRACK SLEEP
Through our integration with Apple Health, Apple Watch, Fitbit, Oura, and data from other sleep trackers on your phone, like Sleep Cycle and ShutEye, RISE can determine the hours of sleep you get every night, your sleep debt, the number of steps you take each day, as well as data from other activities that affect your sleep pattern.

WHY WE STARTED RISE
We want to help get ahead of the Insufficient Sleep Epidemic (CDC, 2014) we're experiencing, which has been steadily increasing since 1985. This Epidemic has led to elevated mortality rates (Cappuccio, 2010) as well as underperformance in most aspects of life (RAND, 2016).

Today, we look at sleep as a luxury. RISE strives to create a world where healthy sleep is a necessity.

Needs a 2x4 widget for Smart Stack. Just started using this app and my first impression was “WOW”. This is one of the most beautiful and well designed apps I have ever seen in all my years of using a smart phone. Kudos to the UX team. Truly amazing. The data seems accurate and provides lots of learnings, tips, reminders and insight. Really looking forward to learning more about my sleep over the next few days. As a sleep deprived parent, this is very important. The price is definitely steep and that might be a turn off to some people. I was glad to see a discount when I signed up again as it makes it a lot simpler to justify the expense once the trial period is over. One thing that I will request from the developers is a bigger widget. Only a 2x2 widget is available and this app could certainly use a 2x4 widget that can integrate with the SmartStack.

Why 3 stars. I was recommended the rise app from a friend the friend noted that the app helped improve their sleep, and they also achieved a sleep debt of almost 0, and when being around the person, I’ve noticed that they have seemed in a better mood, and able to calculate their peaks the lows at a surprisingly good accuracy, using the app. While using rise app, myself, I was very intrigued by the design of the app the app used to used previous sleep patterns, recorded by my phone to come up with a list of highs and lows and mid ranges of when my melatonin will be the highest. but I do not think that the app also took in my work schedule, three days out of the week I work 12 hour shifts overnight, and I was expecting the app to build a sleep schedule around my work schedule almost and I know the app would not be perfect but the app did not do that it gave me I guess a pre-basis and ran from there so if the app could perform on that level of providing me a schedule around my work schedule and sleep schedule, that would be great.

Changing my life. I’ve only been using Rise for a week or so, so far, but it is literally changing my life. I’ve always struggled with insomnia and troubles getting up in the morning. I’ve been a self described night owl my entire life. I found this app shortly after I got my Apple Watch series 6 and was looking for something to analyze my sleep data. It has made a world of difference. I plan my day around my energy schedule and follow the tips for better sleep. I’m waking up and falling asleep on my own, which is a miracle for me in and of itself, but I’m waking up before 9 am, usually before 8 am, without an alarm! It helps me figure out when to do my heavyweight chores and when my energy is going to be too low for much. I struggle with chronic illness, pain, and fatigue, so having this information is proving invaluable to balancing my day and keeping within my limits. I haven’t needed any of the premium features but I am tempted to get it anyway, just to support this amazing app.

Good in Theory. I love the science behind the app and really have tried loving this app, but it just makes too many mistakes that have to be manually adjusted, so I have found myself needing to adjust its data nearly every day. If I tap a button so the time will display on my phone and then go back to sleep, I will wake up to be told that I’m in my peak time because I’ve been up for several hours. Sometimes it will say I have been asleep just because I am not carrying my phone with me in the evening, and I will have to change that. If it were free and I had to do all of this myself, it would still be irritating, but there are too many glitches for people to pay for this app. I had actually synched this with my business partner’s Google calendar so we could coordinate communication better from a distance, but it has wreaked havoc on him trying to communicate with me based on when it’s displaying my wake and sleep times so we had to completely disregard the data the app kept sending.

No option except to pay (honest review). I saw this app and decided that as a teen who has to wake up at 6am for school every morning, that this could help me out to you know, wake up on time. I did the beginning part and all that and then it asked me to do a free 2 week trial and of course I knew that it would do that, like most apps do. The payment after the trial is what I had a problem with. The yearly payment is so expensive like $70 a year and as someone who can’t pay without getting my parents permission, I can’t use the app at all. On top of that, as I was writing this review after submitting another one before deleting, it told me that they believe money should not be the primary reason not to use rise. There’s no cancel button on the free trial screen so if you don’t pay you can’t even USE the app like at all. So how is that supporting the fact that money shouldn’t be the primary reason hm? I suggest maybe instead of pushing for people to pay/do a free trial, just a few things could be unlocked but a majority of the options you’d have to pay for. That would make this app a total game changer for the people who can’t afford this or are not allowed to waste money something so expensive each year when the money could go towards other things that are necessities. Thank you for taking the time to read this and have a great day/night! -❤️Munya❤️

Rise may be on to something.... I’ve tried quite literally everything to get sleep: pills, vitamins, meditation, everything. It’s only been a few days, but with this app I’ve noticed a marked improvement in my sleep quality. The notifications for different aspects of things that may affect your sleep have been incredibly helpful to begin to change my sleep schedule and hopefully resolve a majority of my insomnia. These notifications have helped me take stock of when I’m working too much or just getting sucked into my phone or laptop and need to step away from the screen because I need to prepare for sleep. Within three days of downloading, I’ve had marked improvement in the amount of deep sleep I’ve gotten and my heart rate while sleeping has also dropped. The creators of this app are truly on to something really revolutionary and I can’t wait to see where it will go from here.

I like this app, but for the price, it could be better.. I really enjoy this app, but I’m not convinced it’s worth the price. I cancelled before the automatic $60 one and signed up for the $36 one, which is sketchy to not have that as the default to be honest, because I don’t know if there is any difference. I use my Fitbit to track my sleep and just import the data, which works really well and eliminates some of the problems I saw other people were having. It really is quite a simple app though. My Fitbit is doing most of the heavy lifting and it just does the calculations. I wish it had more features like telling me my ideal wake up time (which it only does on the widget which is annoying) instead of an obscure “wake zone” that gives me no time reference. I’m finding myself using other apps to fill in the gaps that this one is missing like ideal wake up time, sleep quality, habit tracker, etc. If this app had all those things I could see it being worth $60 a year, but I feel even $36 is pushing it for what you get. My Fitbit subscription was $70 a year and does everything else except measure sleep debt. So it doesn’t really add up in my mind. That being said, I am happy I bought a subscription, I really like knowing my sleep debt, I just wish the app developers were more transparent with the pricing and that it had a couple more features.

was going to rate 4 stars. i like this app overall and it’s really helped me to keep my sleep debt low to nonexistent for the first time ever. the feature that would make it perfect in my opinion would be if you could input your own data on when you actually notice peaks & dips during your day, then that would help influence your energy schedule over time. i feel like i kind of align with the energy schedule (?), but it’s not worth the price without being able to refine it. i actually came to rate 4 stars + make my suggestion but now i see a review mentioning that there was a $35 tier i could have paid for instead of a $60 one? i checked my subscription and it’s true. super sketchy as that was NEVER mentioned before auto subscribe. so one less star for that. I’ll change my review & rating if you’re ever able to input your own data regarding peaks & dips, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth because of the price issue. I turned off auto renewal now, so I’ll see what kinds of updates come out before I make a decision about subscribing again.

Amazing tracker for people WITHOUT A WATCH !. I used this for a week the entire time of my free trial an I absolutely loved it ! I don’t have any sort of health watch an this app turned my phone into a motion censored tracker an was 97% dead on accurate . Anytime it sensed my motion from me touching my phone or moving around it it would log I was awake which is correct because I hang my phone at head height on a stand right next to my face at night . I’m super impressed with this app an I so so badly want to keep using it ! But they do not offer any lower monthly or weekly rates to pay for it . Yes I could spend $36 an I could spend the $60 but I’m on a tight budget an that’s my only complaint so far without being able to use it long term is people who want to keep using it but may not have the money to pay those high rates. If you lowered rates to weekly bi weekly or something for all us who can’t afford these expensive monthly yearly subscriptions you’d likely have even mire people using this app ! Otherwise I thought it was the best out there for anyone without a WATCH ! It really started teaching me a lot someone who has never tracked sleep or been very mindful of all other daily health routine things .

Surprisingly Effective Sleep App. I have tried so many sleep apps, but this one is truly unique. The sleep debt tracker and energy schedule are revolutionary. It’s exciting and motivating to see a quantifiable representation of my sleep debt going down as I improve my habits, and the energy tracker has helped increase my productivity significantly, since I’m now able to plan the right kind of work for the right time of day (why have in never thought of this before?). After a lifetime of struggling to manage sleep and energy well, this app is a game changer. If you’re not sure about the app, I’d encourage you to at least check out some of their content online: that’s what convinced me to try the app. I’ve read countless articles about sleep over the years, but very few have been as valuable as the ones that I’ve read from Rise (pretty surprising for free content). Trust me, it’s worth taking a few minutes to see for yourself. Best of luck, and sweet dreams!

After 10 months it has done little good. I got the year subscription and I use the app every day but I’m really unhappy with it. It pretends to have some advanced grasp of science but it essentially just calculates your sleep and tells you when to go to bed with other automated notifications. Maybe the worst part about it is that the notifications it sends you to supposedly help you are negative and even shaming! Why??? Negative messages don’t motivate people! When you have insomnia and you’re up in the middle of the night it tells you to go back to sleep with this message: “You owe your body some sleep.” Who with insomnia does not know that? Who needs an app adding to your anxiety when you’re up at 2am??? Even when you finally reduce your sleep debt it tells you: “You did it! Don’t lose it!” Why add shaming motivation on top of the positive? The developers need to pay attention not just to sleep science but the science of how apps actually motivate people. Take a que from Duo Lingo that uses lots of small positive bits of feedback to hook people to keep using the app and actually learn. Honestly I feel like this app just capitalizes on the fact that there are so many people with insomnia desperate to sleep who just read the same advice over and over on the internet and want real help. This app is nothing new and doesn’t help. Save your money.

Love this app… but there’s only one flaw. I really enjoy tracking my data and even if I’m not following my plan it gives me the best idea of when I need to be trying to fall asleep or reminding me when I need to sleep. Along with knowing the peaks of energy I will have, which for the most part correlate with what I experience. The ambient noises are great and I use them a lot as well, weather it’s for sleeping or just reading a book. The one and only problem is that I want to pay a month subscription, not a full years subscription. Myself and I’m sure many other will use an app like this for some time before inevitably forgetting about the app and stop using it (ADHD gang). And as much as I hope that doesn’t happen, I’d rather not make a $60 purchase to then use it only 2 months and forgetting about it. If they would make it so I could pay a monthly fee, I’d prefer that significantly more. Until this feature is added, I won’t make this purchase despite how much I enjoy it as I’ve had this problem happen before. Otherwise, I’d be perfectly happy with giving Rise my money and would suggest it to anyone looking to improve their sleeping habits.

Good app, reasonable price… had a lot of room for growth. Love the app and definitely plan on sticking with it- it was really easy to set up, and I find the science fascinating. Two reasons for the low score though: 1) it’s hard to figure out how accurate this is compared to other apps, and particularly unclear what information it’s using from your wearables to help learn about you. For example: I have a Whoop band, which is VERY good at predicting when I’ll be less ‘recovered’/more tired/etc. This seems to just have a fairly set template, that slowly adjusts based on your data. So… good, not great. 2) I can’t describe how much I dislike the UI, and that is compounded by it having some bugs which makes it even less usable. Unappealing color scheme without other options, overuse of different icons without clear explanation of what they mean, clunky navigation. Just a lot of stuff that needs refinement to make this an app I would want to utilize regularly.

Great app, could use some additional features. So far, I really like this app. For the first time, I actually feel real motivation to get more sleep on a regular basis because I want to see my sleep debt go down! The information about energy peaks and dips and melatonin windows is also extremely helpful and very accurate so far. I only wish that there was a way to add naps to lower sleep debt. The pop up windows are constantly suggesting taking naps during energy dips, yet I couldn’t find a way to add a nap to my sleep total. I was really hopeful that adding a nap would lower my sleep debt, but maybe science suggests it doesn’t work that way, so they didn’t include that option? Idk, but I sure wish they did, or at the very least included some information about the science of naps if they have some reason not to add this feature. Update: now that I know how to add naps, my main concern with the app has been resolved, and I will fully endorse it with 5/5 stars. Its design motivates me to get more sleep, which is exactly what I was needing.

Became a morning person, but can’t use overseas. I had been considering this app for some time after reading Rise’s articles on sleep tips and seeing Instagram ads. This is hands down the best sleep tracking app I’ve ever used. I love the energy tracking and the habit reminders…. All until I traveled overseas. After flying to Hong Kong, the app’s data and server connectivity seemed to be totally out of whack. I could not get reliable sleep and wake time suggestions. The widgets stopped showing the correct energy phase. And the app stops working entirely if I cross over to mainland China. I’m moving to this region soon so I could not justify the hefty annual subscription price with all of these issues present. If this app can work reliably in Hong Kong/China then I would gladly return. If you’re based in the US, then it’s a great app, and I highly recommend it, especially for night owls trying to become early birds. I hope these issues could be fixed soon so I can use this app properly again, thank you.

Great customer service!. Fantastic app, had helped me improve my sleeping habits surprisingly fast!! I struggle with getting a good night of sleep quite a lot and getting non restorative sleep this app is such a beautiful design and also really helps! Simple has everything you need and nothing over complicating it, I have recommend it to a number of people already and they have also downloaded. Not gonna lie I was a little jealous when they had a low sleep debt and mine started at 21hours! But in 2 days it went down to 13 and kept dropping! So the app works! I’m just competitive and jealous of other people sleeping healthy unlike me I guess! Their customer service team is great and extremely responsive, I reached out with a issue with getting in the app, and they responded in minutes and fixed it quickly and kindly 10/10 highly recommend

Confusing Pricing But Alright App. I love the energy schedule I'm given throughout the day- and when I remember and lay attention to the notifications for habits it really helps. But I have two issues. First- my sleep schedule has been messed up. I'm trying to get it on track. But if I'm up late and then wake up late it tells me my energy peak occurred while I was still sleeping. And anytine I sleep over 12 hours it seems to not give me a new adjusted energy schedule or sleep debt that day - only shows the day prior. Meaning the nights I've working hard to pay down my sleep debt are skipped, and my sleep debt only decreases if I'm sleeping 1-3 hours over my sleep need. The second issue I have is the confusing Pricing. I had made up my mind I would pay for an annual subscription after the trial ended. I forgot and got charged automatically, which was my fault. But when I looked at the pricing options I was charged for a $60 annual subscription while there was a second option for a $30-40 annual subscription. If there was a special going on its upsetting thst anyone auto charged during that time paid full price. I already felt like I was splurging considering paying for the app and then felt like I somehow was overcharged inadvertently.

Good for display, terrible interface. You know what’s great for sleep? Having the first thing to greet you in the morning being the frustration of not having your sleep tracked in a sleep tracker and having to manually input hours on a glitchy interface that doesn’t indicate whether the information you’re inputting is for the night you slept or the day before. The app is okay because it does seem to project energy levels which looks cool, and might even be accurate. It has helped me regulate my sleep because I get a quick reference to my sleep quota. But god, please, the developers need to fix the glitchy hours input interface. How to count the ways??? The “mattress” mode doesn’t record the hours once I press stop on it in the morning half the time. When inputting manually, another half the time the hours are inputted for the day prior or the day after instead of the day I’d intended the data for. Etc etc. the app is so good, yet terrible.

I’m a believer BUT doesn’t seem to deliver. I’m really interested in everything this app promises and has to offer…but I never feel confident that it has tracked my sleep accurately, and therefore I don’t feel I can trust the rest of its suggestions for that day. (It doesn’t seem to account for short wakes in the am but then I go back to sleep for 30-90 mins before truly waking/getting out of bed.) Yes, you can edit your sleep manually…but if it’s connected to my Apple Watch, why isn’t it tracking that data automatically? I expect an app like this to be tied to actual data, not my own recollection. Another thing that troubles me is that this app recommends 8 hrs & 45 minutes of sleep per night for me…that’s a lot! I value sleep and want to maximize it for my health and productivity…but I’m not sure it’s reasonable to expect / plan go to bed at 9:30 every night of my adult life. Finally, I’ve been monitoring how I feel during the day and I can’t perceive a big difference between my peaks, dips and the rest of the day…which makes me wonder how important this is for me…which then makes me hesitant to invest in the annual subscription. (Maybe I’ll start with monthly to continue monitoring whether/how it adds value.)

Great concept but lacking basic data retention and access. I’ll start by saying that I’m aware of the primary premise of the trailing two-weeks being the most relevant timeframe to determine current energy levels. I’ve been using this app for about 18 months and have found it to be really useful in predicting my daily energy experience. That said, I’m also interested in much longer horizon trend analysis. Given this desire, it strikes me as odd that there isn’t an ability to see how you’ve improved your sleep habits over an extended timeframe (eg, months to years). As far as I can tell, the only mechanism like this is the streak counter which tracks the number of consecutive days with “great” energy levels, but this is a poor instrument of what I’m aiming to measure. To be clear, I’m not suggesting that there needs to be a change to the UI abstraction, only the ability to export full history of all data. Any sleep app which costs a fee to use should have robust analytics and historical trend analysis with the ability to export CSVs of all historical data from within the app. In particular in interested in using my raw data from Rise Sleep to perform statistical analyses such as studying weight, heart rate, steps, etc. as an f(x) w/r/t trends in total sleep, sleep debt, energy schedule, and other Rise Sleep data points which are not visible beyond 2 weeks.

The best app for Sleep Health and well-being...ever.. That may seem like a very bold statement to make in a segment where there are so many different apps available and such a wide variety of features specific to some and ignored by many of the others in the category. RISE is, far and away, the most useful app I've ever subscribed to and the features and resources it provides its users is beyond incredible. RISE not only offers you the typical "you slept this long, with this much in deep sleep, and such as." RISE offers all of that information and makes it diesel. Not only does it monitor the basics but it also uses the data it collects from you and your health apps to paint the most accurate picture possible of your sleep health, how it is likely to impact your day, then providing windows during the day when RISE has determined, based on the information you've provided to it, when you'll have that mid morning or mid afternoon slump or when you're likely to get your second wind. The RISE app provides you with so much more information than I can share in this review but I can say it helps you understand...you...and your health and the connections with it that first show you a small glimpse of where you are with both sleep and it's overall impact on your health and mind space, and then it guides you step by step and, unbelievably, without being intrusive and overwhelming. Best possible product and therefore my highest possible review.

Thinks i’m asleep when i’m not. I love the concept of this app. I started using it to make sense of my energy levels and try to help me keep a consistent schedule. But for the last couple of days, RISE has incorrectly listed that I was asleep when I was wide awake playing video games. The issue is that it relies off my phone motion to determine whether i’m asleep or not instead of my Apple watch that can more accurately determine if i’m asleep or not due to my movements. Not only did it incorrectly track my sleep and completely confuse the entire schedule thinking that a day had already passed and I only got 1 hour of sleep, but I also can’t simply remove it! You can bring it down to a single minute but for some reason the all simply won’t let you delete the incorrect sleep data! I find this quite infuriating as I can understand sometimes tracking incorrectly, but why not just let me manually remove it? I will continue using the app for a few more days to see if this issue is resolved and if so I will update this review accordingly. I really hope these issues get handled.

Does not work for graveyard workers. I started working graveyard a month ago and figured I would give this app a shot. It synced all of my sleep data from my health app. Shows I go to sleep between 3-4pm and wake up at 11pm. But it keeps showing my melatonin window is 11:57 pm. I’ve manually set my sleep hours on the energy tab and now it’s showing I only have my energy cycle from 11-12pm and then it just flatlines…I have a peak at 11:00, grogginess as 11:20, peak at 11:40, and melatonin at 11:50. Not sure why they can’t use their normal algorithm and just adjust it 8 hours back to give me some results. But it’s non functioning for people who don’t sleep from 11-7pm. My wife also tried it and has work at 5am so sleeps from 8:00-4:00am and has a similar issue. Has her whole day cycle of energy in a short hour span. I feel this app just gives similar results to everyone who sleeps at normal times and it glitches when you sleep at other times. I use AutoSleep and it may not have the most, but it’s free and it works no matter when you sleep. Plus it’s free unlike this $60 a year for generic results that fail when you are out of the norm

Not good for people who work nights. I love the idea of this app, but the execution makes it obnoxious to use for people who are regularly up working late and not constantly on their phones. It estimates when you sleep based on when you put your phone down for a long period of time at night—which means if I work from 10pm to 4am and then check my phone before going to sleep, the app decides I went to sleep at 10 and woke up at 4. I have to check every day to see if the times are wildly off (which they often are). Sometimes I’m able to manually enter the right times, but sometimes it won’t let me. This morning I went to sleep around 5:30 and it wouldn’t let me enter anything past 4am. It also doesn’t have a way to record your whole night of sleep if you happen to wake up in the middle of the night and check your phone before going back to sleep; you have to manually adjust. I finally gave up and deleted the app. I think it would work better if I used Sleep Cycle every night, but I don’t have an outlet near my side of the bed and don’t want to go to the hassle of charging my phone on a portable charger every single night just to get Rise to work. For a paid app it should be better with this.

Optimize this for teens please!. I got this app and so far I love it. I realized that my teenage daughter needs this more than I do. Unfortunately the school system has zero compassion for the science that says that pre-teens and teens experience a biology shift that causes them to experience later sleep onset and wake times, plus the need for more hours compared to adults (9-11 hours!). All of this, plus a new and thriving social life outside of family wreaks havoc on their sleep schedule. She missed a class from oversleeping and was so stressed and frustrated over her erratic sleep habits she came to me and asked for help, which in all honesty really surprised me! I had literally just started on this app when she did this and couldn’t believe I didn’t think of it for her first. She’s using it now (still on her trial) and we’re willing to see how it does, if it helps, even though it’s for adult sleep needs. She likes the interface and the gamification of reducing her sleep debt. She also suggested the ability to edit her “wind down” activity such as “Pack backpack” and “Set next the next day’s school outfit”. She also suggested “spending time with pets” which I thought was actually brilliant given the calming benefits of petting our critters. If this app helps my teenager feel rested and more motivated to get to bed at a decent hour than shut up and take my money!

Evidence-based sleep improvement!. First and foremost, I find this app to be a huge help in improving your energy throughout the day. I have tried a few different paid sleep recording apps and this one is far above the rest in terms of scientific support and ultimate results! As a medical student, I’ve found that this app is tempting to refer patients to as a sleep aid resource. However, it’s looking like I’ll only be able to afford the free five-day trial. Would love to see if there’s any kind of healthcare or student discount to help pay for the cost of the app so I can better trial it and use it in my clinical practice! The main improvement that I would like to see is the ability to adjust one’s wake-up time. This may already be implemented, I simply haven’t had enough time to look into it, but if so it could be simplified as well. I know this app is focused on circadian rhythm so that may prove to be a hurdle with this request but all in all truly have enjoyed my trial with Rise!

Really Great! But too much of a $$$ commitment.. Let me explain, I really like what Rise does but I simply just don’t want to fork out $60 for a yearly subscription just to use this app. Also the free trial for this app should last for 2 weeks instead of 1 week because according to the app, it takes around 2 weeks to calculate your true sleep debt. Yeah other than that I love everything else that this app offers. I love being able to set reminders to remind to wind down for the night. Because of this I have been able to relax just in time for bed! I do recommend giving this app a shot if you are struggling with getting on a normal sleep schedule! My message to the developers of this app: *please extend the free trial to 2 weeks. This way we can experience more of what Rise has to offer and actually see our true sleep debt. *please consider adding the offering of a monthly subscription to the financing of this app. I’d say around $7.99/month would be a good price for this app. This way it would seem quite a bit less daunting to access the premium features of this app. (Benefits those who don’t want to spend more on the short run, $8 compared to $60; but makes those people spend more in the long run, $96 compared to $60.) Seriously, I really like what you guys have done here with this app but until I see an option for a monthly subscription, I probably won’t use this app. -sincerely, chris

Not for poor people. I’m giving this app two stars but not because I disliked it. I loved the app and it features, I felt like it was actually helping me get control of my sleep. I suffer from insomnia so sometimes it is hard to get to sleep especially if I don’t have prompting. I used it for the entire free trial and loved it the only issue and the reason I’m giving it two starts is because there is not a free option what so ever and they don’t tell you that before you download it or sign up to do the free trial so after my free trial was up I was no longer able to access anything on the app. I’m a college student living on hardly a sustainable income I can’t afford to pay $10 a month or even the &36 a year at this point in my life. So if you can pay for a subscription great, if you can do the free trial and then walk away with no attachment great, but if you think you will fall in love with the app like me but can’t afford to pay don’t download it in the first place because you will be very disappointed like me. It’s not designed for people who are poor.

Excellent App. Exactly what I was looking for! RISE is the app we all didn’t know we needed. From calculating your sleep debt, to highlighting your energy levels throughout the day, RISE calculates your peak and dip times so you can use them in your day-to-day schedule. It also displays your melatonin window at night and shows you your morning grogginess window as well! It’ll notify you when you should dim the lights at night, and when you should ease into the morning with some natural sunlight. Overall, I’m very pleased with this app, it’s worth every penny and it works seamlessly with Apple Health, and all the data it collects from my ŌURA ring. I would definitely recommend giving RISE a try if you take your health and sleep seriously and would like to have a little bit more information about your energy levels.

Updated review. Yesterday I posted a 1 star review due to the confusion of adapting to this app. It took me several hours to get a grasp on how it works and how to navigate it. The tutorials and format is not very user friendly IMO. However, after figuring out (through trial and error - never found a help page) on how to correct auto logging errors within the app, I’ve begun to understand how it works. The main confusion for me was that I thought this was a method to plan and control your sleep. But, it’s more of a sleep log that adapts to your actual sleep schedule. As a long time sufferer of sleep problems from PTSD, I rarely come across new info that I haven’t read before. The science here is extremely conservative, taking melatonin 4 hours before bed and avoiding caffeine 10 hours before. This is a big change that I may try to integrate, although I’m not sure if it’s very practical for me personally, given my mental health and severe sleep issues. The good thing is that these are optional, so it may take some time to adapt how I use this app. So far, once locating the routines, figuring out how to edit logs, and finding the scientific explanations within the app, this does seem quite useful to help with sleep problems. I only wish that the intro had been more comprehensive with more tutorials available to start.

Didn’t tell me when my free trial would end…. I was using the free trial of Rise to get an understanding of my sleep cycle, when all of a sudden I got a large charge on my bank account! I didn’t put 2 and 2 together, until I realized it’s because this app never said my free trial would end. THIS is a problem for 2 reasons. The first is that the app promised it would tell me when my free trial was going to end, if I wanted to cancel it. That never happened! The second is that the 14-day free trial only offers the 1 year option to renew after the trial is up, which is SIXTY (60!) dollars! I’m very unhappy. The app itself is good, it’s nothing outstanding though. It tells me to go to bed at 11pm-12am despite the fact I have to get up at 6am, which is a very bad amount of sleep time. The only thing it does well is predicting the morning productivity and afternoon dip. The afternoon productivity prediction is always wrong. I’m not exactly sure if I’m able to get refunded over this, but I really want to. $60 is 5 hours worth of me working, and I don’t want to spend that on a mobile app!

Doesn’t really do anything, glitchy. Visually lovely, but after a while using it there wasn’t much difference. Interface is OK, a little clunky feeling. Like most of the other third party sleep apps it gives you a smart alarm but the alarm does move until you’re in ally sleeping making sure you get your 8 hours. The app has been very glitchy. The sleep clock keeps getting stuck in my dynamic island. Closing the all, restarting the app didn’t work. The app said the clock was off but when I swiped out there it was counting in the notch. Only way to get rid of it in the dynamic island was to delete the whole app as turning the phone off and on didn’t work. Now I have to download it again…. Have had it but over a week with no noticeable differences or changes to the waves or how I feel regardless of my sleep debt. Stuck in a year long subscription now, canceling it so it won’t auto bill me next year so I guess I’ll redownload it. Thus far my experience hasn’t been worth the price.

Good Idea, problems importing Fitbit data. Been using Rise for 2 months now. Being able to track my sleep debt helped my insomnia. When Rise works at least. Sometimes, rise decides I didn’t sleep last night. Even though the Fitbit App and Phone App said I slept 6.5 hours last night. Main issue is if Fitbit breaks up my sleep into 2 or more events, Rise ignores it? Odd feature to ignore naps and broken up sleep.. That throws of my sleep debt for the next 2 weeks. Rise misses about a night of sleep once every 2 weeks. So my sleep debt is usually wrong. Because it’s missing an entire night of actual sleep. If I could edit the sleep data I could fix it easily. But it only lets me delete sleep, not add it. You can add naps, but they do not affect sleep debt calculation? Even though it said naps help sleep debt? Rise is a very pretty app. Cool features. Nice ideas. When it works it’s cool and helpful. But half the time it simply has the wrong sleep data. If I could add sleep manually I could fix it. But if the core function of calculating sleep debt is wrong half the time…. And there is nothing I can do to fix it other than write emails to tech support. Or click the data is wrong button. Tech support was nice and responsive. And did seem to fix it once after about 2 weeks. I think? But have had the problem a couple more times since then..... I wish it worked. Because it's such a cool and helpful app.

Looking forward for what’s to come. I really enjoy the app and look forward to future innovations to the app. A barrier to Rise truly being a near cure for a lot of my struggles is that my schedule as a graduate student is not in my control for a lot of things. It is very rare that I find myself being able to follow what rise indicates as good times for me to work or rest. I wish there was a way to input what tasks you actually completed during each peak and dip duration as a way to see, for example, how having to study or do something that requires attention and energy during a dip effects sleep debt. Personally I feel like this app has a ton of future potential and I really hope that the company and people involved feel as strongly as I do because this app is something that helps manage and track more than just sleep and I’m excited thinking of what’s possible with each update that comes out!

Allow for Apple to track the subscription smh. This might work, but I’m pretty sure they don’t include the subscription tie in to apple in order to make it hard to cancel and so it appears that you didn’t sign up for one in your Apple account. I find this to be a shady business practice, as even super cheap apps have this feature, and nearly EVERY high quality app has it as well. You have to manually enter a credit card and information into their system rather than private relay, again, even though nearly EVERY OTHER APP allows for the use of it. Aside from that, the app didn’t work for me at all. Constantly put me as having a dip when I was having a surge of energy, at a peak when I was dead tired, despite having about 60 nights of data going in. But to be honest, I don’t want to support a company clearly trying to make a fast buck at the expense of less technologically savvy consumers, and cashing in on the data they’re getting from not allowing private relay. For those want better transparency and an app to wake up, I recommend sleep cycle. If the app had the chops they wouldn’t have to purposely design a frustrating, shady, and unintuitive UI just to avoid allowing their customers to use tools within the App Store to protect their privacy and avoid the free trial window automation.

Improved sleep = better me. I’ve had sleep issues most of adult life but didn’t really know how to improve it. I’ve used supplements, changed exercise habits and have tried other sleep apps. The other apps (Fitbit and Garmin) tracked my sleep but frankly I already knew how bad my sleep was - what I wanted was a way to improve it. Rise asked me a lot of personal questions about my sleep and lifestyle and created a plan for me to follow. The plan was simple but effective. I was able to see how my sleep debt built up and was given some tools to pay it off. It was effective for me because of nudges - those that I asked for - were gentle reminders to stick to the plan. An example of this - I am usually on my phone late into the evening - instead of telling me I couldn’t (which is what I thought the recommendation would be) they gave me tools to make it work for me. My sleep has greatly improved and it is all thanks to the awareness, plan and help with implementation.

Can’t enable needed data. UPDATE: Apparently certain parts of setup need a day or a few days to work. That really should be stated when it starts doing those parts. If I’d known the first sleep debt calculation took a few days, for example, I wouldn’t have been checking every day and contacting support. I just downloaded the app because it looks really cool and I’ve already run into a problem. I’ve enabled the motion tracking no problem. Then I tried to enable the health data and that’s when it stopped working. I followed the steps given in the app and enabled the options I had. My settings shows two options labeled “steps” and “sleep.” Apparently “sleep” isn’t the same as the “sleep analysis” the app wants, because now it’s telling me I don’t have it enabled. But as far as I can tell, I do. I’ve been trying to find a way to contact customer support, but there isn’t any way. The support page is just FAQs, no way to contact them, despite the top of the page saying you can contact them. I really want to start using this app, but until this settings issue is figured out, I can’t! How do I contact a customer support person????

Needs Improvement. I like the concept of this app a lot. The energy schedule is incredibly helpful and knowing my sleep debt gives me a lot of insight on my habits. However, there are some frustrating flaws that I feel the app should not have given the amount of money I’m spending to use it. It only syncs to my Apple Watch maybe half the time, the other half I have to input the data myself and it’s not as accurate as it is if imported from my watch. I use Pillow in conjunction to Rise and there really shouldn’t be an issue importing the data from Pillow but for some reason Rise really struggles with it. The other annoying flaw is that I have it set to text me before my melatonin window and in the week and a half I’ve had the app I’ve only received one text. I could set an alarm myself but again, it’s supposed to be a feature of the app so I shouldn’t have to. If the developers fixed these flaws I think it could be a really amazing app but as it stands it needs some improvement.

Features are so Limited that it’s Useless to Me. The first issue I encountered was that I had little control over the sleep data I imported. My data was mostly from years ago when I was dealing with health issues, as I just recently started wearing my Apple Watch again. My sleep needs were very different then than they are now so it skewed the sleep need, energy graph, etc. Then I noticed that the app was telling me to wake up much later than I need to for work. I could not find a way to tell the app when I needed to wake up so it could adjust my recommendations. If there is a way to do this, it needs to be much more accessible. Finally, the energy graph was INCREDIBLY inaccurate, basically the opposite of what’s true for me. Part of this has to do with medication that alters my energy levels and part of it is just being different than the average human. Overall, there needs to be more options to customize your data and recommendations. There also needs to be more data collected so that the app can account for things like being neurodivergent, mental health issues, etc. For example, the algorithm should be able to identify sleep patterns consistent with depressive episodes, so data doesn’t get skewed by periods when a user may sleep significantly more, but not as a result of their biological sleep schedule

GET THIS NOW!!!!. PLEASE GET THIS APP!! I haven’t been able to get on a schedule for 2 years (yes that’s bad I know but you gotta stay up sometimes you know) and ever since I got this app I've actually been going to school, it’s so much easier to get up in the morning. (Now I only snooze once or twice 😂) when I first got the app I had 12 hours of sleep debt, that was maybe two weeks ago? Now I have 1 hour of debt (this doesn’t seem like a lot but it is for me!!) if y’all can relate to this, I like using to do list because I like checking the box off when I finish a task, it’s motivation. ITS THE SAME WITH THIS APP. As soon as I wake up I check how much sleep debt I have, it makes me actually WANT to go to sleep and not stay up all night. And it also tells you when your going to be productive and tired based on your sleep, I haven’t used the productivity to my advantage yet but it is very helpful knowing when I’m supposed to be tired every night, I’ve had less trouble falling asleep. I love this app even though it’s expensive, please. If you want to change your sleep schedule. GET. THE. APP!!!!

Confusing and Counterproductive. I don't understand this app. The energy peak stuff is REALLY COOL and I want to like it, but I told the app my alarm is at 7, it told ME that my sleep need is 9:15 hours a night, and I thought "Great, we'll be trying to go to bed at 10ish?" but my "melatonin window" is apparently after 11 and every night I use this app, even if I go to bed before 11, my bedtime is set later and later, and keeps racking on the sleep debt without any explanation of why or when it intends to start reversing that trend. All while displaying a judgy "1h50m sleep debt per alarm" like it's my fault I'm not sleeping in more. I was wondering if it's enforcing a delayed sleep phase because of the ADHD diagnosis, but the app doesn't really explain how it takes ADHD into account either, or if that makes my energy cycle look different somehow from a non-ADHD person's. Sure, I downloaded the app right as I went from no alarm to a 7am wake-up, so I understand why my energy cycle isn't aligned YET, but I expected it to work with me in shifting my sleep pattern, not against me? I can't really afford the subscription, but I thought at least the free trial would be worth doing for a bit, but it's just been very confusing why this app has been trying to make me sleep LESS than what IT says I need.

Rise gives sleep and energy insight that no other app does well!. I like how Rise gives insight into your energy levels, circadian rhythm, and sleep inertia/debt . The only things I would change are the disincentive/expensive renewal surprise, better widget glance for sleep debt/ hours and where you are on circadian rhythm, and better integration with other sleep and exercise apps to track energy levels vs naps and exercise activity. Tips could be more personalized to show how improvements in behavior can make small incentive/percentage gains both in potential and actual improvement changes so people can easily tune into significant behavior. I also have sleep apnea, narcolepsy type 2, and Idiopathic Hypersomnia (IH) and would love to be able to compare how these behaviors compare and can be improved versus others who have the same issues/tags. It would be neat to also extend the Circassian rhythm graph into sleep rhythms and interruptions to highlight behavior such as insomnia, night waking due to temp, or patterns, maybe even correlate allergy interruptions with allergy apps. Rise is awesome and is so close to being even better.

Love this app and the team behind it!. I trialed a lot of apps before settling on this one. Not only does it give me the information I’m looking for in regards to my energy levels, but it also suggests times for various activities based on my dips and lows. And it puts them into my calendar app for me! I love that. The app also has a great Tools feature that contains a good selection of resources you can use and learn from, which is where I learned about the amber and red blue light glasses (totally went down a rabbit whole thete!). But my favorite thing is the customer service. I had an issue logging on to the app and Christian worked with me until it was resolved. He always kept me informed about the status, so I felt like he really cared about helping me as one human to another (vs a bot that never quite gives you an answer). I truly love this app and recommended it to a few friends and family already!

Unique, Beneficial App. I’ve only been using this app a couple of days, but I’ve really enjoyed it so far. It has a much different concept then most sleep apps, which barely provide more data than what iWatch users can find in Health. I love seeing my peaks & dips. It’s comforting to see that the dips end. With this knowledge, I can decide when my ideal times for certain activities are instead of expecting my energy level to be constant throughout the day. Along with that praise, there are some features I would like to see added: 1) Let users select a goal bedtime or wake up fine. Then, using when we are currently going to bed & waking up, help us gradually progress to getting to sleep earlier & earlier till we hit our goal bedtime. 2) Let users add their own activities to the habit. A relaxing activity for me would be cross stitching - something I would never expect to see as an option, but I would love the ability to enter it in myself. 3) In the morning, ask if we kept our habits or not. Even as simple as “did you stop caffeine at X time” or “did you eat your last meal by X time.” Then, help us identify patterns between these habits & our sleep quality. Of course, being able to actually input time of last caffeine & meal would be great.

Helped my family get back to normal. I love the app, works really really well. And when it hasn’t worked as well at times, I contact support and they fix it immediately, which is much appreciated. I didn’t realize how bad my sleep debt was. I didn’t even realize how badly it was affecting me. I don’t wake up feeling sick and emotionally unstable every day anymore. It really helped me in just a couple weeks and I plan on continuing to use it so I stay on track. As someone who suffers from physical health issues and mental health issues this has really helped me a lot. My husband loves it too, it’s helped him so much. He is a chef so his hours are random and long and his job is hard on his body, he was never sleeping enough. He is a little less stressed and has way more energy now that he was able to monitor and eliminate his sleep debt.

Great for awareness of sleep deprivation, needs improvement on functionality.. I’ve noticed you cannot delete erroneously recorded periods of sleep. You can edit their length, but not delete them (at least that I can find). I just noticed the app registered the past two hours as me being asleep when really I was just sedentary, playing a video game on a different device (I even had episodes of a show playing on this same phone, so the phone wasn't even inactive and it was literally sitting in my lap. I highly doubt I was so still that my phone registered me as asleep). I tried to delete the recorded period of sleep but can’t seem to do so beyond manually reducing it to a 0 minute nap that never happened. This seems like a glaring error to me that could make the sleep debt calculation wildly inaccurate depending on how the calculations are made. I assume the app took my normal average sleep times and made the ~wrong~ assumption that my movements this late at night were just restless sleep. Please add the ability to delete sleep records and I’ll probably start using this app seriously, because all of the other resources it provides seem to go above and beyond other sleep tracking apps. Otherwise, I can’t trust something that won’t even let me fully correct incorrect data.

This app changed my life. Mid-30’s working professional here - I’ve been seeing doctor after doctor over and over and over again for my sleep issues for almost my whole life. Doctors from some of the best institutions in the US. They all approached the problem in the same manner, never really caring and sending me on my way with some medication, which always failed. I completely lost faith in the entire medical system and started to think that I was one of those people who just couldn’t sleep through a night or in any consistency whatsoever. If any one of those doctors would have told me that the ONLY thing that really matters is an extremely consistent sleep schedule, it would have spared me a lot of pain, frustration, and money. This app is incredible. I am sleeping better than at any point in my life. I will use this app for the rest of my life. My only suggestion is to give prospective customers a free trial for a month. I almost didn’t bother with this app because it is sort of expensive. And there are a million apps like this that promise all the things. There is no way anyone is going to understand the impact of this app in a few day trial run. No one wants to waste money for something that is going to be deleted from the phone. If the product team really wants new customers, I would say to change the initial approach.

Should be in beta. Incredibly buggy. Opening the Apple Watch app makes the app freak out and suddenly change all my recorded sleep to be 11 hours or more, and I have to go in and fix everything to be accurate again. And even when I don’t open the Apple Watch app, about once a week I’ll suddenly get a notification that my energy schedule is “great” and lo and behold, when I check, the app has completely changed all my sleep tracking and it’s all inaccurate, like 10, 11, 12 hours just like with the Apple Watch bug. This happens completely on its own. I’ve reached out to developers—they haven’t fixed it or added a feature where the user can manually enter sleep hours so that the hours stay accurate. Only reason it gets 2 stars and not one is because I like their emphasis on simply sleep time and not tracking special cycles or anything. But overall, the service is practically unusable for me and they haven’t made significant strides on fixing these issues, so I don’t recommend it.

Incredible Performance. How this app doesn’t have a 5.0 star rating is beyond me. I was waking at 4:00 a.m. to get more done but the truth was by 11:00 a.m. I was beyond exhausted and tried to ride caffeine all day to keep me going but I wasn’t focused. I was laying in bed from 10 p.m. until midnight on social media to relax myself to get to sleep. Hours wasted pointlessly and only getting four hours or so a night of sleep. I downloaded this app a few days ago and already feel better. I had over 17 hours sleep debt and it said my all day energy level was only 20%!!!! Today, in a couple of days, I’m down to 11.9 sleep debt already and at 41%! I’ll get this down to zero sleep debt and I assume it will say 100% energy. Not sure but I think this is where it’s heading. If it wasn’t for this app, I would still be struggling and I think this app will be the reason I live longer! I’ll be 50 in November, only a few months from now!

Game changer. This is the first review I have provided despite being a faithful iPhone user for 10 years. The Rise app deserves acknowledgement for what it can bring to your life. I am a woman in my 30s diagnosed with narcolepsy two years ago. While my medication, diet and exercise are all helpful this app is really what ties it all together. My favorite feature is being able to look at my energy peaks for the day and plan tough work projects or errands during those times. I absolutely never go out for long errands during low energy dips but may plan for some exercise to boost my energy during that time. I have even planned scheduled naps with this app. I have told neurologist about this app and recommended it to many people with sleep disorders I can imagine it would make just as much as an impact with someone without a sleeping disorder. This app has become an essential

Making a different. I thought I was Ok monitoring my sleep but I had been underestimating how much I need! Getting more sleep is making a difference. Understanding about my cycles of energy has been eye opening too. I now can factor in activities based on my dips and peaks of energy

Great App. I love the way it automatically tracks sleep and it’s easy to update the next day. Reminders for wind down time and when to stop caffeine are a winner. I like seeing at a glance when my best times are or when I’m due for a slump. Really helpful support team, responsive and supportive.

Excited to use, but so far quite buggy. I absolutely love this app and I’ve only had it for less than 24 hours, however I’ve found it quite buggy - freezing after I try to add an energy boost or switch to a different page from the navigation panel in the bottom. It really gets very annoying that I have to force quit the app each time I go onto it because it freezes 😓 Once this gets fixed though, there’s no stopping this app from never getting deleted from my phone! Please fix the bugs but thankyou for developing such an innovative and educational app!

Amazing customer service and great app. As a student I didn’t exactly have the $89 for the yearly subscription however after an email to the team detailing my situation and recent health diagnosis and how the app has helped me they were more than happy to help me out. It’s a great app that lets me know when I’m at my very best and helps me plan my days

A Good but Expensive Option. I tried rise and thought it was the thing that I was looking for but after the free trial your charged monthly for it. I believe it’s overpriced, if it was lower I wouldn’t mind paying the membership fee but their are other apps that do the same thing with a cheaper subscription or even without one.

Subscription Pricing???. This is a really good sleep app, recommended to me by my psych. I used the 7 day free trial and I was prepared to pay for a monthly subscription, but the only way you can subscribe is annually. I don’t have an extra $100 just lying around. There’s no free version either so you can’t even access your past data until you subscribe. I’m fairly sure more people would pay IF you could pay on a monthly basis rather than annually.

Not helpful for parents of young children. I wanted a way to find my optimal times for sleeping and waking to feel more energised. At this time of my life, sleep debt is all I know with young children. I’ve got a 2 and 4yr old who generally sleep through but it’s not a sure thing with kids. Already started off in the app in sleep debt and have been consistently going into more debt and lower energy levels since using it. Frankly it’s depressing as I know this isn’t going to change in the future and naps are not an option for me with two hyper kids about. Have to delete as it’s not helpful for my mental health to see the raw data of how bad my sleep debt is when there’s nothing I can do about it. Would not recommend for parents, sleep debt is all we know and this apps main focus is on that!

Amazing. I saw an add about this and figured to check it out because it was true I literally saw the ad at 2am. The layout is amazing, I really liked the part at the start where it showed you everything in such a simple fashion I haven’t bought the subscription but I’ll see if I can because this app is amazing. I rated it 4 starts because the monthly subscription but honestly I understand why it’s there. This is such a high quality app and I reckon it will actually help me out.

A whole new appreciation for sleep and science. A few weeks ago I stumbled across rise. I have been using another sleep tracking app for years but it’s become more of an alarm with some data. As soon as I joined rise it used all of my sleep data to calculate how much sleep I need which takes into account when you have “rebound” sleep. You know those lazy sundays you finally let you body catch up!! I started with over 12 hours of sleep debt in the past two weeks, with a suggested bed time and “rise” wake up time I went to work on getting my sleep debt down, a few weeks better I can already feel much a difference in my day to day life like I’m no longer running on empty! Also learning about the body’s natural circadian rhythm during the day and how to align daily tasks to make the most out of your day. A great app to have in your toolbox to make the most out of your day and understand your unique sleep needs and to keep on top of them to feel your best!!

Good but so many bugs. The premise of the app is great! The problems lie in the functions and software. The widget does not work at all. It works for a couple of hours a day then stops working. It shows night time when it’s midday and a the dip while I’ve just woken up and am peaking. I have reached out to support and they say it is a rare bug with ios but my friend hs the same exact problem. It even shows times such as 23:14-21:22 in the widget which is impossible as time doesn’t run backwards 😂 I have followed their instructions - deleted and redownloaded - opened the app the refresh it (and still the pop up keeps showing the incorrect prompt eg wind down activities during my morning peak) And all have not worked. The last response I have gotten from support was 1 week ago. After paying $80-$90 for a year. It’s just sad and disappointing. This app has a lot of potential but at the current working rate should cost more like $10 a year.

Great UI, major data issues. The first day of using this app seemed so amazing, it tracked my rhythm to the minute almost. But when I woke up on the second day it got my sleep time completely wrong and threw my whole day out of whack. Despite me correcting the sleep time, it never corrected the day again. Even with a 30 min buffer, the app thought I was asleep when I wasn't, and what made me completely delete the app was the fact I got more sleep than I needed and yet my sleep debt went up overnight by 4 hours!! makes no sense. I tried reinstalling the app and starting from scratch but overall found the data calculations innaccurate after my first day of use.

Amazing!. I was hesitant with this app when I first downloaded, however after using it for almost a year now I can happily say it’s worth the money. While this isn’t exactly a great sleep tracker in its self (but does link up and work great with other sleep tracker apps!!) it still provides amazingly accurate insight into your energy habits. I’ve followed this apps advice and in a year my sleep longevity and quality has improved significantly, I am able to keep a regular pattern of sleep. I can also schedule and plan my activities through the day based on my predicted energy levels, not to mention plan my coffee breaks for the low periods. Words do not do justice to how helpful this app is. All I can say is use it for a couple weeks, you WILL see for yourself!!

Waste of money. After trying out the free trial and forgetting to cancel my subscription, I’ve been locked in for a whole entire years worth ($65+) even though I did not enjoy my experience dueinf the trial phase. Despite this I’ve kept the app but honestly found it quite useless. It can’t even accurately pin when I sleep so I end up manually inputting the data every day. Even so all I find it useful for is telling me how much sleep debt I have. But that doesn’t help. I can do that myself especially seeing as I have to manually input data anyway. Wish I could refund my years subscription.

Great sleep and energy tracking app. As someone who has recently been diagnosed with ADHD, tracking sleep and energy levels throughout the day assists me to be more productive. Rise not only helps me track my sleep but adjusts notification times throughout the day to remind me when I’m likely to have peaks and dips in energy based on my sleep. A great app!

best app I’ve ever had. I had rise for the past 12 months on a trial and it’s been the most useful tool in getting my sleep on track. The sleep debt feature was really useful and made me more aware of how much extra sleep I needed. It’s helped me become more focused and get more out of my day. The gentle wake up alarm had me feeling more awake during the day and stopped me wanting to press snooze. It also has some really great audio tracks to help you settle at night. The only thing I’d like to see is a student discount or monthly payment options. Its worth the money but I can’t afford another 12 months at the moment.

Amazing app! Even better support team!. Firstly, this app is absolutely amazing for tracking your sleep when you don’t have access to a smartwatch or a sleep tracking device. The information that it provides you on how to structure your day is genuinely life-changing, my quality of life has improved a LOT due to this app. However, the true highlight of my experience with rise has been dealing with the support/developer team. Due to my current circumstances, I cannot afford rise. The team was kind enough to give me a 6 month subscription on the house! Overall amazing app and even better support team.

I love this. I have been using this App for about 3 months now and I am really impressed with what it can teach you about sleep. I didn’t think my sleep habits were bad as I have sleep apnea and have been sleeping what I thought was adequately since using a sleep apnea machine for the last 18 months . I was recommended this app to try from a family member so gave the free trial a go. It took me about 4 weeks but the feeling I get now from having a good nights sleep is absolutely amazing. I am using an Apple Watch to monitor sleep coupled with this app and am following the recommendations from the app. It really has made a difference. Thank you.

Automatically charges after trial ends.. Once your free trial ends you are automatically charged the $86 for a whole year subscription without any further correspondence or in-app notification. I’m not saying it’s not a good app, but for me the functionality is limited as i don’t wear any biometric monitoring devices such as Fitbit or Apple Watch. Would I have paid $86 for this? No that’s almost a whole days pay for me. Would I have paid $7.16 per month, cancel anytime? Yes I would have given it at least a few months to see if it helps adjust my sleep habits. Anyway I guess I have a full year to find out because I’m forgot to cancel my trial. Apple needs to change how subscriptions work. Users should upon opening an app with a trial be notified that the trial has expired, then have to agree to a subscription. The current model means if you forget to cancel your trial you can have $86 that you need for food and stuff be taken out of your account.

Great app but please offer monthly subscription option. I love the app, particularly useful for tracking sleep/waking at night, but I wish there was an option for a monthly subscription - I paid the $5.99 for a 1 month trial, and came on looking to buy another month, but the only option for $85 for a year is too big of a commitment to justify. Would be great if there was an option for a monthly subscription (like $7 or $8) as I was finding it really interesting to see my sleep patterns over a few weeks and would have liked to use it for a few more months at least to see if I could improve my insomnia and increase my energy levels. The slow alarm is a great feature too.

Plenty of promise but glitchy and expensive. This app has plenty of promise and is worth downloading for a free trial. However the app is very glitchy. I have had issues with the calculations retiring non-sensical info from time to time. The widget is good when it works but today for example, it is refusing to refresh. The app is also supposed to have compatibility with Garmin watches. But when liked (through the apple health app) the sleep times are disjointed and much shorter than the reality. On top of all this is the annual membership fee. I could forgive the glitches for a lower fee but this app is the same price as Evernote for example which is a very polished app providing data storage etc... Unfortunately as much as I’d like to support rise, I won’t be proceeding past the free trial at this stage.

Great app, but please fix the widget!. Loving the app, however the widget and notifications are buggy. The widget will sometimes get stuck “loading data”, and after the morning peak it will consider the rest of the day a “winding down period”, completely ignoring the afternoon dip/peaks. It’s a shame since this app is extremely useful. It would be nice for the widget to actually work on my Home Screen!

Live Rise but some issues. I love Rise and have been using it for a while however I finally got my blue light glasses but the alerts, which were timed correctly initially completely changed when my glasses arrived and I started using them. I have tried to reset the alerts multiple time to ping at the correct time but it’s now alerting me way after my melatonin window. I also can’t seem to ever clear my debt. Should I delete the app and start again?

Didn’t work as described. Disappointed. Notifications and texts didn’t work as described when I set these up. I work with technology and have a strong technical acumen so if the reason for this was either config or user error then the app is still too precarious/unstable IMHO. I probably would have overlooked this and tried the app for a little longer if it had allowed a monthly subscription option that I could cancel at any time without losing a whole year’s spend on the app, but given that some things weren’t working properly I simply wasn’t prepared to risk an annual payment. The research behind what it does appears well done and basically well packaged - I think it’s a good concept, but not yet well enough executed to be worth my money. If they introduce a monthly-cancel-anytime option and/or improve the issues with notification/text failure, then I’d be open to trying this product again and providing a more favourable review.

Good but expensive. It’s a solid app. The user friendly and minimal design has me spinning in circles. I love the idea that I can view a predicted trend line on my daily energy, however this is glitchy and sometimes the trend line is very broken. I would pay to use this app, but I just do not feel comfortable paying $85 a year for it. I would rather go on a monthly subscription. Yes it’s practically the same, but $85 is a lot to spend on an app.

One of the better ones. I have used a lot of sleep aps, and ver very often I forget to turn them on in the evening… this one hanging auto detect is super helpful… at least I get the bare min data.. and the data is much better than what ever apple health detects…. However- it invariably needs tweaking first thing in the morning when I wake up … at least movement bars make that easy, to slide awake time to the more accurate time. I’d like to see the ap use movement AND noise, And I’d like the ap to save data for longer than 2 weeks… I value longitudinal data… why am I paying so much, when you don’t even store the data. I can’t get the ap to write data to apple heath ap either. (Other aps do this automatically)… oh! Also… “sleep need” there’s no info really on how this is actually calculated, how often it changes, why it changed,or even THAT it changed… especially when you manually change it yourself- it still seems to be updating in the background… (maybe include both- my estimation and the aps)…eg, if I have 2 weeks of terrible terrible sleep, due to stress, of constantly 5hrs with no “rebound sleeps” … does the ap adjust my sleep need down? Plus I find the sleep debt added doesn’t reflect my adjusted time or the one estimated in the ap. ;and again.. no idea how it’s calculated.. is the rebound sleep amount the one ap uses? Or is it all averaged? After a rebound sleep?

Worth it if you have a crazy sleep schedule. I have been sleeping at crazy times since the start of this year, and Rise helped me manage my sleeplessness with the melatonin window, and the sleep tracker. At first it seems like the app is really complicated, but after getting used to it, the UI is pretty simple. The only problem I have is with the aggressive marketing which ropes you in for a WHOLE YEAR’S worth of payment. But if the app keeps getting updates and new features then I think it’s a great tool for managing sleep.

Useful, buggy, bad pricing practices. This is a useful app. It’s helpful for keeping track of sleep debt and working towards getting it down. It does seem to have numerous bugs. Notifications don’t work at all for me: not most iOS notifications, nor SMS, nor the email they said they would send before my subscription started. I’ve checked all my settings and they’re fine—the notifications just don’t work. Also the iOS widgets come up with some weird numbers. The widget says my “evening peak” time is 2:25am–9:24pm. I’m not a fan of charging for the whole year at once. If Rise are confident in the ongoing usefulness of their product, why not offer a monthly subscription? Making it yearly just seems to be taking advantage of people who might forget to cancel their trial, or of people who decide it’s not for them after a couple of months’ use.

Amazing. This app has changed my life. I never realised how much sleep I actually needed, and how sleep loss accumulates to detrimental effect. Since I got my debt under control, I have more energy, am no longer crashing or napping, drinking less coffee, and my days feel more productive. If you think this app is expensive, it’s really not, for what you get in return.

Knowledge and awareness bring clarity!. I doubt I’m using Rise to its full potential, and yet the simple knowledge of understanding my peaks and dips throughout the day has firstly helped me not to be so hard I’m myself when I’m feeling a bit less energetic …. Secondly to know when best to schedule tasks etc in! Adding alerts to my calendar has really helped. I also find the sleep debt concept really empowering. It has made me aware of the effect sleep (or lack of) has on my overall well being.

Definitely good app but….. Hello! Listen, the app is actually great it gives helpful information and it can really be a very very useful tool especially for me a high school student getting stressed and stuff. But, this isn’t it… yearly subscriptions ain’t it… because really I need to try it for a month or two to see if I wanna continue, this isn’t fair and acceptable, please please add monthly subscriptions… Kind regards

Great app but pls help/fix. Love the app, it has helped immensely in improving my sleep habits and reducing sleep debt. However, I am quite annoyed that It is taking over my calendar with up to 20 notifications a day despite disabling its calendar access in settings and on the app. This renders my Calendar obsolete, a tool I heavily rely on, and as a result I have missed drs appt and other events due to the spam of notifications from rise. Pls help me to resolve this.

seems like it could help but needs cheaper subscription options. Used the free trial, just cancelled as 7 days isn’t long enough to see it work. the only available subscription is ~$90 aud for a year. not wanting to spend $90 on an app that hasn’t proven itself to work for me yet. would pay for a month or two though. needs monthly subscriptions

Looks cool. Only been using this for a month but can already see the benefits :) I’ve been using Oura for almost two years now and it does not give as much insight into my energy levels as Rise. The interface is much simpler, the calendar integration is amazing, the sleep schedule suggestions and no caffeine/late meal notifications are quite useful. Might not be as much stats as Oura, but much more useful, applicable, hands on and easy to follow instructions. Haven’t used the meditations yet as I already have a different platform for that.

Slick. Insightful.. This is my second sleep app and its already way better in terms of the data points, the information products and a slick interface. Just completed the one week trial - and just loved the insights I have been getting on my sleep. Recommend!

Energy Boost. The app is pretty good for encouraging you to go to bed earlier. I have noticed there are some mornings where the alarm doesn’t seem to go off. Also, the app sends me notifications all day long but when I open the app I can’t work out what the notification is for. Maybe there needs to be a Notifications area on the app that tells you what the notification is for (or maybe there is one and I just can’t find it). My biggest issue is that I want to use the Energy Boost feature but the app can’t find any time on any days that would be best to do any of the activities (I want to find the optimum time to exercise). I tried looking in the FAQs for help with this but the words “energy boost” don’t even come up in the FAQs search. Very frustrating.

Too buggy. One week is not long enough to check out the app. Two weeks trial and option to pay by the month. Happy to pay for a good app but considering how buggy it is I think the amount of money charged is over the top when compared with other health apps that are reliable. I don’t get the weekly email, i wasn’t getting reminders reliably so I’ve deleted those, my sleep data is ridiculously off, this morning tops it off with a week of sleep data missing. The one positive is I now pay more attention when I feel tired in the evening, so in that sense it has improved my sleep. I suggest you send a monthly email to all customers with a simple feedback form so you can analyse the results of bugs. Could be a good app once you sort out the bugs.

Worsens sleep - wakes you hours too early. ‘Smart alarm’ Woke me up at 5am today, 1.5 hours before the app’s own designated wake time, leaving me completely exhausted. Have a hearing starting today at which I need to actually be capable of thinking, which I’m now not. Particularly enjoyed the part where it wakes you up much earlier than it’s own algorithms indicate is correct, then tells you all about how screwed you are with that little sleep. Don’t download, don’t subscribe. If your sleep is poor, this will make it measurably worse.

Overall brilliant, some minor bugs. Very cool app that tracks your energy level! Compared to all other apps I’ve used, this is by far the most accurate and well designed. There are some bugs tho, such as the notification sometimes not working mentioned in the other comments. But the most annoying one is that the app becomes kinda dodgy after 12am midnight, with widget not working, notification being sent that’s supposed to be for the next morning, energy page taking minutes to load etc. Overall though very good app. For those complaining about being charged after the trial - that’s how App Store works and it’s not hard at all to cancel your trial before being charged.

Great app for optimising sleep. Sleep was always really difficult for me and I’m someone that likes to track things religiously. Rise helped me improve my sleep quality and effortlessly track my sleep without having to lift a finger. It’s nice being able to view your energy levels and your sleeping patterns in the app.

A pricey but wonderful and intuitive app. I have been using the free trial and wow, I can’t believe how detailed and informative this app is. I love data-driven health apps like this one. I really like the features that show you went to schedule certain activities based on your sleep debt and circadian rhythm. I have recommended the trial to my family and friends. Sadly at $120 a year its too pricey for me to continue using but hopefully one day I can return to it. Highly recommend if you can afford it

Excellent app. RISE has been so helpful in being able to really see the impact my sleep schedule has on my day. A lot less wondering “why do I feel so awful today?” - now I know why and I know how to fix it! I also really like getting to see when my energy levels will peak, and planning activities accordingly. I’m a Uni student, and we are not known for sleeping well, but RISE has me telling everyone goodnight at 11pm because I need to whittle down my sleep debt!

Drains my battery. Love the concept of the app but wasn’t the best for me because I don’t charge my phone while I sleep and don’t have constant access to a charger throughout my day. I charge my phone in the evening before sleep and for an hour before work and usually this is plenty for me. Was at 100% before going to sleep last night and usually with phone usage during the night I will start my morning with at least 80% charge. This morning it was at 20%. Charged my phone this morning before work to nearly full charge but it was below 10% by midday. Checked which apps are using the most battery and rise was using the vast majority despite me actually opening the app 3 times. I only recommend app if you have a charger next to where you sleep and have access while you work. Plenty of trackers out there that can tell you more about your sleep without taking away so much battery.

Great concept, but it’s broken. I love the idea of this app, and the beautiful design, and for the first day I had it it was awesome. Loved seeing my energy levels and circadian rhythm mapped out. Unfortunately, after the first day, the app went haywire. It tells me my “energy peak” is at 3am, and the circadian rhythm line is a knotted squiggle that makes no sense. After contacting support, and getting an initial response, it’s been a few days with no further acknowledgement of the bug. I can’t recommend this app in its current form, as it fundamentally doesn’t work.

Some technical errors but practically fantastic. Rise has really helped me pull my sleeping schedule back into line and help me understand when to be productive and when to rest. I have a hard time switching off so this app is perfect for me. Only complaint is that there are some glitches that reduce the functionality of the app. If the glitches are fixed, I would definitely buy a subscription

Alarm doesn’t go off. Be prepared to be late for work multiple times if you rely on this app! The amount of times this alarm has not gone off on my phone and I have been late to work/appointments is so poor. I am aware that you cannot close the app completely, otherwise that will mean the alarm will not go off the next morning, however even when the app is open overnight, I am finding your alarm is not going off. I paid $85 for a yearly subscription for this app and I am so unpleased…. Furthermore, it is very inaccurate with my sleep, often saying I am getting around two hours less sleep than what I actually am! Definitely needs improvements. I genuinely wish I did NOT spend money on this app.

Great app.. but... I love this app, it offers a lot of useful insight and articles to learn about sleep and sleep debt and would continue use, but I will discontinue use after my trial period has finished.. the pricing and billing schedules are ridiculous, there needs to be a monthly payable option for me to consider subscribing, as opposed to having to pay $86 for the whole year. If there was an option for $8.99/month I would honestly sign up to that

Very dumb. I really wanted to give this a good review but here’s what happened. I opened the app for the first time, paid the two dollars so I could try it for a month and everything seemed okay. Then I go to open the app again the next day and I can’t even get into the app because it’s telling me I have to pay. I already paid for a month and now it’s telling me I have to pay again. The only choices were a free trial that would automatically charge me 50 dollars after a week or eight dollars for one month. Even though I already paid for a month. I wasn’t going to pay again. Being so highly reviewed I had the impression that this app would be more legitimate instead of having pay walls every time I open the app. What a disappointment.

Great app!. For most people, how do sleep stages really affect you? I’m guessing they don’t, this app cuts all that out. Rather it focuses on the amount of sleep and “sleep hygiene.” Giving you the necessary tools and information to get your sleep under control and be a better person.

What a great app. I was skeptical at first. But it has really helped fixing up sleep patterns and understanding where peaks and slums in my day were. But also how you can play your day using this information. I use this in conjunction with sleep cycle/watch data. I like that it warns you when not to have any further caffeine and and be able to link in with a partner. Customer service has been great when questions were needing to be addressed too. Give it a try. There’s nothing to lose. And for what you pay for the year, it’s really rather great value.

Doesn’t live up to expectations. I expected this app be amazing from the ads and the science it refers to. The quiz to determine your sleep issues also appealed. However I found the app a bit basic and really don’t offer that much value. The quiz is not overly comprehensive and didn’t give the option to include some of the critical factors affecting your sleep, like sleep apnea and children (it did give a sleep apnea option, but you could only choose ONE priority from a list). It told me i need to sleep 9 hours which is true, but the sleep window ideal for me it gave me is just not viable with small children. The app told me that I have a sleep debt but no solution for fixing it other than sleeping 9 hours + per day between certain hours. The energy level chart that supposedly give you “optimal” times, did not reflect how I felt. It’s also impossible to figure out how to cancel the alarm once it’s set. I’m a paying customer of AutoSleep and that gives me more valuable info and actually helped me get diagnosed with sleep apnea. I don’t think this app would make any impact on my life so I decided not to pay for a subscription

Great app with kind developers.. The app provides great information for sleep debt and the developers are willing to help you access their product. Lovely.

Battery Drainer. I decided to try out the app and soon started wondering why my phone (iPhone 13) was dying before the end of the day. Had a look at the battery performance in my settings and it turns out the app was constantly running in the background, using 35% of the total energy. Immediately uninstalled and things are back to normal. I’m not debating the science of the app but I feel I can get much of the same for free from the built in health app on my phone, an ambient playlist on spotify, and some simple math. ✌️

app deception reach new levels with this app. it’s become borderline criminal how apps such as this one will leech your data under the pretext of “we want to help” only to find out that after they’ve gotten tons of data about you is when they find it appropriate to let you know that the app needs you to pay/subscribe pathetic hopefully more users run away from such practices. installer beware

just another subscription. this app asks for all your info and does the calculations for your sleep debt but before you can go any further you must buy a subscription. i was disappointed because i was never informed i would have to pay and i wish the app would’ve said something about it before hand

Thanks for your review. Just wanted to thank all those who said that there is a paywall after you enter your information. You saved my time and saved me from feeling frustrated and manipulated. With reviews like this, developers who use such cheap tricks will eventually realize that they don’t work. Nothing wrong with offering a paid product, but if you are not confident enough to be upfront about it chances are that your product ain’t worth the money.

Confusing. This app is so confusing and it’s not even accurate. Not worth money in my opinion, there’s much better options some of them are even free.

Too bad. 5 stars for the app. Lost a couple for the price. I can actually say one of my fav apps, this app is done great…unfortunately for this price though I can do it all my own. At $20 max I “may” have renewed but not a chance at that price.

Good in theory; glitchy in practice. Overall, I absolutely love the concept. We all have our sleep sweet spot. This helps you figure it out. But at least once a week I have to correct an inaccuracy in the app. There are times where I’ve slept longer so my sleep debt should decrease but the app will say otherwise. It’s a known issue because the way to they’ve told me to correct it is to change the amount of sleep manually. So I’ve slept 9 hrs and the app will say my sleep debt increased by 1.6 hrs. Then I’ll say I slept 8hrs and 59 min and it rights itself. Last night I went to bed early and woke up in the middle of the night to use the restroom. For whatever reason, the app only registered my sleep from after that. Even though I was using the mattress detection, it is missing 4hrs of sleep. It’s so frustrating to have to continually try to correct the data.

Amazing!. Calculating sleep debt & energy cycles with awesome chart’s & graphics is both amazing & super helpful. Helps me get more out of life by scheduling activity types based on energy levels. Helped me fine tune my sleep window by showing me my melatonin window. Charts sleep debt vs sleep quality. Brilliant control over alarms & a ton of resources for learning & for improving life. Sophisticated algorithms. Simply amazing!

Rise. Cool asf

Nice potential app. Nice app, but it doesn’t track my sleep properly so it useless in that case

Great app, great customer service. I’ve found the app to be very helpful in understanding my daily energy and how my sleep affects this. When I had a question about the app, the support was immediate and helpful. If you’re looking for this sort of app, it’s a very good one.

This app is not free!!!. Makes you enter all your information, processes all your data, and then pulls up a screen asking for payment. There is no way to use the app unless you pay. Just make us pay up front instead of making it seem free!

Fantastic. This app is great! It’s been so helpful being able to track my sleep and especially my sleep debt. It’s been a game changer.

Useful!. This app has literally changed my life. I haven’t been able to sync to Google Calendar, and I wish that it would allow for a bimodal sleep pattern, but those are minor things for me.

😑😑😑😑. I hate this app. I didn’t even want to subscribe to the yearly fee. I tried to cancel, but these people took $100.00 from my bank account in less than a second. Don't waste your money. 0.9 out of 10 😐😑☹️

Nothing free. Ad says free. There is nothing free without first subscribing and then canceling before the week is up. Such a hassle, misleading advert and there’s no feature to just try without subscribing and then having to remember to cancel if you don’t want it. Boo

Not a free app!. Makes you create an account and enter all of your information. Takes you through a whole bunch of screens before telling you it's a paid app. $79.99 a year subscription.

Good app but used to be better. I’m not sure if it’s just my app but previously u were able to scroll through the energy chart for the whole day, that was a feature I used the most to play my day and breaks around my days energy.. now u can only see a chunk around the current time wondering where that great feature went but otherwise good app also the ability to press on the diffrent zones in ur energy chart is gone I miss that also

I should have investigated this app more carefully. I’m very, very hesitant to allow the upload of my health data. But I figured, well, I’ll trade my health data for some bespoke analysis. Wrong. This app apparently wants to harvest my data and also wants me to pay 80 dollars. I regret adding my data. It’s on me, I should have more carefully looked at the app description. I clicked on a link I saw on hacker news. Buyer Beware! I would have appreciated that, BEFORE I uploaded my health data, I was made aware of the pricing and charges, during the customer funnel in the app.

refund?. the app is a great app but it defaulted to the 1 year membership and withdrew $100 from my account. my cancel date was yesterday but it already renewed, i canceled it how do i receive a refund?

No customer service, over promise, under deliver. I’ve been using rise for a few months very regularly. While I think it’s a great concept and can really help, it has major issues hence the rating. 1. The sleep calculator can’t do basic math. I’m looking at the hours I’ve slept and the calculator is not adding it correctly. I don’t know if it’s confused about previous day or something, but it doesn’t work. 2. They say that they will send a weekly analytics email, they don’t. 3. Try contacting them about any issue, you will not get a reply, you’ve paid for the app and now you’re stuck. For these reasons, I will not renew the subscription and can’t recommend it to anyone. If they fix these issues, I could see it working because I do love the concept. But it really needs to develop because it’s very expensive for the lack of support and development.

Simple & effective. I love this app. However, as someone that works shift work at the hospital if there was a way to incorporate my nights vs days it would be even more helpful.

Phenomenal but ... $$$. I absolutely adore this app! It has been an incredibly helpful tool for me. I have been in a constant state of exhaustion, (single mom, full-time student, homeschooling and caring for my grandfather) no matter how much rest I get. And this app has offered so many different tools and notifications to keep me in check so I can prep for a proper nights rest. I have been super consistent and have started to feel better, more energized and more grounded in my day to day. My only wish is that although the app is fantastic, it is not free and does not offer any free basic options. Which in my case is awful because it is a little out of my budget given my situation. Hopefully they can have those options available soon because I was really looking forward to trying the sleep reset tool they have!

App looks really good, except a couple issues. App seems to track your sleep better than most apps I’ve seen, except there’s no way to account for your job. It’ll base the entire day on when it thinks you should sleep, and does not take into account when you HAVE to sleep, which messes up your entire energy schedule as it tells me to wind down 3 hours after my bedtime. Plus the subscription system is absolute nonsense. In Apple settings, it says the yearly subscription options are $47.99, $79.99, & $119.99, while the monthly subscription options are $80.99 & $82.99?

Misleading. This app is paid, but they don't tell you that until after the whole onboarding process. This is a bad and misleading user experience. Do better instead of resorting to these kinds of tactics.

Quickly deleted. There’s no free version. It forces you to pick a few (yearly or monthly) after setting your profile.

Really Great App!!. I absolutely love Rise! I’ve finally learned to manage my sleep schedule!

The app is stuck and won’t progress. I was really excited to find your app, but I cannot get it to move past downloading my data! I have uninstalled and reinstalled, but it has been hours now, I hope you can help, but at this point I am very disappointed.

Helpful, probably the best sleep app I’ve used despite almost deleting.. After a bit of a rocky start, this has been a really helpful app and program overall. The app maps your circadian rhythm and sleep debt and tells you when your high and low energy periods will be throughout the day. I have horrible sleep and I’ve used quite a few sleep apps: I think the features and methodology of this is the best I’ve used so far. Unfortunately the automated (AI based) suggestions for me were WAY off. For example, I have a years worth of sleep data on my watch/phone that it analyzed, and told me my ideal sleep duration is 9.5 hours per night, which is definitely not correct because I’ve never in my life slept more than 8 even if I’m on vacation and have nothing to do. Honestly striving for 9.5 is just a way to give someone with sleep problems even more anxiety about their sleep! Similarly it’s telling me my ideal wake time is 4am… so yeah, not sure what to do with that. Most people’s lives obviously don’t allow them to adopt an 8pm-4am bedtime schedule… So anyways at first I was going to just delete the app because it’s obviously way off, but after looking a bit it did allow me to override those suggestions with my own settings, and after doing that the app is working very well for me. I’m getting helpful notifications and reminders, and I like the way it’s made me think. Overall I decided to subscribe and I think it is worth the price.

Beware when signing up for trial period. I cancelled my subscription shortly after I installed the app. I work shift work, and work some nights, so I found this app did not work for me. I am not sure why it would make you sign up for a yearly subscription just to use it… but I did just to try it out. When the week trial period ended, they charged me anyway!! I have had the app deleted and the subscription canceled for days. I requested a refund from Apple, so we’ll see if I get my money back!

Excellent for my multiple waking pattern. I was born this way - have been to a sleep disorder clinic in hospital and was told, I multiple wake and have “Primary Insomnia” - but - my body is made to exist like this. Tried sleep meds etc - dr suggested slight sleep deprivation to help me. Nothing worked. This app - has actually worked with my body’s natural rhythm and I am learning it’s okay to nap when you sleep like me. My suggestions would be to include a way to log if we are sick, or in my case having a migraine and or stress levels. Add more breath and meditation options or make it so we can integrate a meditation app with it. Thank you for teaching a grown woman how to sleep and understand my normal ebbs and flows of energy. It’s NORMAL to feel this. So much to learn and I appreciate the attention to current sconce.

Not useful.. I bought the monthly subscription because I was having trouble staying active during the day and resting well at night. Initially, the app asks you your goal, which is two things, but they only let you put one. After, you have to put the hour in which you wake up and then the time you want to go to bed. If you have an iPhone or Apple watch, they will take the data from the health app. Then they estimate your low and high activity moments. In my case, those moments rarely agreed with reality. When the app said it was my pick of activity, I fell asleep. The quality of sleep is measured by you every day. And even using the cellphone and the watch several times did get the sleep hour right. In the end, I still had the same problems.

Not a free app. Requires a subscription, $79.99 CAD a year. The app design looks good though.

Shift work. Thus far I’ve found it very educational and has helped improve my sleep! However, I wish there was a way for the app to accommodate for Shift work. I work alternating day shift and night shift and wish there could be a way to measure and account for that in the app, as well as include that in the adjustable alarms. Otherwise it has been a great experience!

My best companion app since 3 years already. I've been using the "Rise" app for almost three years now, and I can confidently say it's been an invaluable tool for understanding my sleep needs and managing my energy levels. By utilizing data from my Apple Watch, Rise goes beyond basic sleep tracking, providing accurate insights that guide me in determining the best times for workouts, additional sleep, and non-physical activities during energy dips. This app has become an essential part of my daily routine, and I can't recommend it enough. I also want to acknowledge the outstanding customer support team behind Rise. Over the years, they have consistently delivered prompt and knowledgeable assistance, ensuring that my experience with the app remains seamless and enjoyable. With its long-term reliability and personalized features, Rise has truly become my go-to app for optimizing sleep and energy management. It deserves a well-earned 5-star rating.

Too complicated as compared to SleepWatch. Also, complication for Apple Watch doesn’t work.

How can I cancel my 79.99 subscription?. I missed the cancel date but the app is not what I needed. Pls help.

Love the specific-to-me predictions and schedules!. It’s great to have the integration with Apple Health and Sleep Cycle data to analyze my sleep needs and help me to know my energy peaks, dips and melatonin window! Thanks Rise Team!

Waste of time. Similar to many of the comments on here, I was intrigued to learn about sleep debt and my energy periods. But once you finish the introduction section and allow the app access to a ton of your valuable data, they make you pay or sign up for a “free” trial to continue. If I knew this before, I would not have given away all of my data. Disappointed and should have read the reviews first.

Best Sleep App Out There. I have sleep problems. Not in the way of insomnia or narcolepsy (though that may be crusted within somewhere). No, I have sleep problems in a way that leaves something missing. Like some lost friend, but a more successful friend. Like and old pet, but one that was let loose in the wild. Sleep is deeply missing in my soul. Sure, it sounds melancholy, and it is. It is introspective and mysteriously present at times of exhaustion and mirth. It is freezing cold and empty in its ever-presence. The cure, I believe, is this easy prescription: a regular bedtime, blue light glasses, and making steep down payments on sleep debt. Same mattress, same sheets, and same room. The Rise - Sleep app is where those not quite forgotten can find deep sleep again, and reconcile with the root cause of their sleep issues. My deep slumber comes from laying quietly, emptying the contents of my mind, and waiting for a calmness to fill that space. This is the necessity I require shovelled into the hole left from tempurpedics, sleep numbers, massage pillows, and temperature controls. All fine distractions, sure, but the Rise- sleep app? It’s family. A place where restless sleep dissipates, and you realize your dream slumber was there all along. You just wanted an app frill-less and present, where science rules over sparkle and shine. Where everyone can come to learn they’re just a few habit shifts away from a new life. There’s a million like it, but none the same. The best for your rest. A fiesta of siesta. A nose for your doze. Close the gap to your nap with the Rise sleep app.

Really good app with a very cluttered UI. I really like the app and it helps me manage my sleep and activity really well. Nothing has been as accurate as this. But come on guys the UI is so cluttered. The bottom panes popping out is just so confusing.

New to these sleep apps. First time downloading an app like this & it’s the best choice I made. I highly recommend this to anyone willing to try change their sleeping patterns and get back into a healthy routine. 10/10!

Wake zone?. Why does it say my “wake zone” is 5-6am when I’ve set my wake time goal to be 8:30 and I’ve been waking up between 7am and 8:30am consistently for months, averaging at around 8am probably. Where is it getting this 5 to 6 am stuff from. No way I want to wake up that early!

Very accurate. I get notifications from my calendar and I get sent energy alerts like four times a day. At first I hated it, but now it’s nice knowing my pattern and gives me an explanation as to how I’m feeling throughout the day. All the ‘energy dips’ it sends me are spot on and same with the melatonin window!!

Poor customer service. Opportunity to greatly improve customer service. Received an email asking for 30 mins of my time to leave a product review. Was happy to participate however the calendar link showed no availability. Product lead then retracted the ask. Recommend the team be mindful of users’ time, esp those willing to help improve the product.

Amazing customer service and great app. I had trouble with getting a refund. The developer responded to me within a few hours and guided me to get the money back. They really care for their customers and the app overall is amazing i loved the interface and it does help you in improving your sleep and helps in being productive throughout out the day. Should definitely give it a try!

Helpful; but way too expensive to actually be helpful. I use the free version; I never opted for the subscription. And then charged me 89.95 without asking me. Which I think is ridiculous. Basically $100 to help me sleep? No thank you. Maybe you should double check with people before they want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on an app telling you how much sleep you owe them. They sure can take your money fast, but refund it slowly lol.

Wakes me up when I want to sleep. The app is packed with features but seems to lack connection between them. I set the alarm to 6am on week days but then on the first Saturday of my trial the morning routine reminder wakes me up at 6:01 when I was hoping to finally get a little more sleep and reduce my sleep debt 😩

easily one of the better sleep assisting apps. I won’t be continuing to use the Rise app, but it’s certainly recommended to other who have it within their budget to use it. The only reason i’ve stopped is due to the yearly ONLY option for pricing, if given a monthly option (that still equaled out to $60 per year) i’d definitely still be using Rise. Especially important to note was the response time and friendliness of the support staff, very quick to respond to my inquiries and we’re extremely friendly throughout. If you can afford it, definitely go for Rise, it’s extremely insightful, provides a ton of legitimately useful information, and i believe did improve my sleeping patterns and my mood throughout the day.

Best app ever used- UNTIL. This was the best app I’ve ever used, until the free trial went out and it said my options were buying at 60$ or more. This was the ultimate buzzkill, right when I was getting back on my feet with the RISE app, I have to pay 60$ or more just to use it? I mean, cmon guys. Why can’t you just do 5$ a month? I know it says 60$ a month billed at 5$ a month, but you charge 60$ or more just for a membership. It should be affordable, there are people like me with insomnia who can’t track their sleep correctly. Anyway, point is, not that I’m being cheap but I don’t see why 60-80$ a year on an app that only counts how many hours you sleep and some other cool features- but that’s mainly it. If it were 5-10$ a month I’d definitely be a subscriber and I know a lot of other people would too. Very, very sad to not be able to use this app anymore. Might have to find another. Goodbye RISE :(

Overall, Good App. Overall, it’s a great app to track your sleep debt and keep you on track. However, as another reviewer mentioned, if you work odd hours, I find the app constantly thinks I’m asleep if I’m not on my phone late at night (but still working). While annoying, it makes it much worse that when I manually correct the sleep data, the data does not update correctly. Recently, this issue has occurred much more often, making my sleep debt data next to useless (it completely skips some days that have data and my sleep debt score skyrockets). I’ve tried adjusting the times, restarting my phone, etc. but these issues still persist—which defeats the purpose of why I got it. Hopefully these bugs get ironed out because when it’s functioning properly, it really is a great app and can help you improve your sleep health. I plan on updating my score once it’s a little more stable.

Missed the mark entirely. I went to sleep at 1:30 PM today. After harvesting an encyclopedia’s worth of data from my phone, this app crunched the numbers and determined I went to sleep at 2:00 AM. The only change I could make to improve this was the threshold for how long I estimate it takes me to fall asleep after setting my phone down? This seems like probably just about the worst way to monitor someone’s sleep habits. Are there legitimately people out there who never go more than 15 minutes without diddling with their phone? How do they hold a job? The app clearly has no way to even begin accounting for the abnormal sleep cycles of third shift-workers, which is absolutely rich considering they are the ones who serve to benefit from it the most. The other option is to connect a Fitbit for better tracking. I don’t own one, and I’m sure as hell not going to invest based on this experience.

A night owl on her way to an early bird!. NEVER have I been a morning person, EVER! My school counselor would schedule study first thing because I was ALWAYS late.. I actually really enjoyed working full-time overnights, 10pm-7am! NOW when I consider WHAT I WANT as a job the options of later start times just aren’t out there so BECOMING a morning person has been a BIG deal and in a week with Rise I feel like I can make it happen! A month into this job and I’m way less worried about it! Gunna keep working so it gets easier AND hopefully can get in the swing of walking my dog before work and not just before bed! When things make sense it’s easier for my brain to just go with it and this app makes SO much make SO MUCH SENSE! Loving it!

Poor instructions on app and no response to my emails. I purchased this app out of desperation following a period of insomnia. It wasn’t clear if I should input my poor sleep or my sleep goals etc… I think I messed up and did not calculate my sleep debt properly but I can’t see anyway to edit it. I emailed them for help but it’s been over 24 hours with no reply. I need help asap as I’m like a tired zombie and can’t wait for days for a reply. FAQ is very limited and I can’t find any settings where I can edit my seep data. Would also prefer a monthly subscription, the yearly is spendy. Update - changing to one star! Days later I finally got a response and they didn’t answer my question noting that in the future it will be more editable. I’m like surely you can change it if you made a mistake with your entry??? Ridiculous!!! Poor customer service and confusing, limited settings/options.

What a crappy app. This app is a giant waste of time and money. Save yourself the trouble and avoid it. I have a bad habit of staying up late and feeling terrible every single day because of it. I thought maybe this app could help me with getting back on track, but absolutely not, it is not helpful at all. The app uses iPhone data tracked over the last year to determine your sleep pattern. However, if I want to go to bed earlier, the app does not allow you to edit your bed time. Your stuck with the night owl late time you’d been going to bed at. And then they give you the bogus recommendation of, oh you need to wake up at 9am for optimal sleep. Well that’s just not possible for 99% of working adults. I work at 8 am. I’m not stupid, I should go to bed at 11 fo be up by 7. But why can’t the app just help me do that? There’s no way to edit your bed time in the app. What a ripoff

If you geek out about improving your sleep, this app is a must!. I’ve been tracking my sleep for a few years now using various sleep apps and the Eight Sleep mattress cover (GAME CHANGER product btw - highly recommended). When I pairs my sleep tracking data with Rise, I get a very detailed assessment of my sleep needs and patterns that results in a very important number: Sleep debt. I had only recently learned about sleep debt and how it impacts the rest of your waking life. Seriously, I used rise sleep for two weeks, adjusted my sleep and wake times a bit, reduced my sleep debt to zero and I can honestly say that I’m feeling better rested and now have a better idea of how my energy levels change throughout the day. Truly an ingenious app.

Not just another app but an Informative and helpful tool!!. I’m am writing this review after using the free trial and waiting a few weeks to decide if I wanted to pay for the subscription. When first using the app I was skeptical that Rise could help improve my sleep habits. However, the way Rise calculates my sleep debit has helped me understand that each day I don’t get at least 7hrs of sleep I become more tired each day throughout the week. This has allowed me to understand that sleep hygiene is SO important and my daily dips in energy each day are easier to fight off if I’m hitting my target of sleep each night. I could honestly go on and on about how great this app is and how useful it has been but for simplicity it has been such a great tool!

Wanted to like it!. It’s a great idea. They have great, helpful content and reminders. But the core of the thing is automatically detecting sleep, and that piece just. doesn’t. work. It records sleep randomly when I’m sitting around watching TV. It records sleep when I’m lying in bed *actively using my phone*. And if there is a way to delete chunks of sleep rather than just adjust the time (I don’t want to shrink the 5:00-6:00pm false sleep entry while I was watching TV and playing Candy Crush *on my phone* to 5:00-5:05, I want to remove it!), it’s not obvious. They even responded to another review asking about deleting false sleep entries. The response said to email them - I did, but no response. Also - why 7 different prices for a year subscription, and you don’t default to the cheapest one? Are the features even different at the different price points? Not cool. If the core functionality worked well, I’d become a happy and loyal subscriber.

Slow, Buggy, and Invasive. The app has some interesting ideas, but it isn’t developed effectively. There is a thirty second loading period for the app’s most important menu every single time (and I am using the most recent pro model phone). Many times that same menu will darken after you deal with a prompt the app provides and never return to correct brightness. The sleep tracking accuracy is significantly worse than many $2 app options. If the app was actually performant, then the extra prompts and questions it has you answer to make the subscription worth it would actually be engaging, but I don’t think people want to use an app that is so slow. Also, the privacy policy is bottom-tier. I read its entirety, they sell your data to third parties, and they make that very clear. Poor development and poor business practices.

Ok, but not 100% accurate. The app would get a 5 because it has helped me track my sleep, set better goals, and better understand my energy levels throughout the day, however I find the energy levels to be off. It will say my dip in energy might be lowest at 4pm, but at 4 I still feel energy, then maybe 30-50 minutes later i’ll start feeling low on energy, then the app would show I’m already coming out of it… I wish there was a way to tell the app, this time my peak came at this time, and then the app gets smarter with your input, so it can be more accurate. That is helpful for planning out a day’s tasks… Besides that though, it has really helped and still recommend this app. Worth the yearly cost

Updated Review. FINALLY was able to delete it off my phone and reset the app from it being frozen. I tried several other apps and NOTHING comes close to this one. It even kept my past data which is amazing, but I do have my Fitbit which might have helped. I am very impressed with the updates too! I loved this app so much. It’s a huge disappointment that they are having major issues. My app has been stuck on a locked screen for over 2 months now. I really enjoyed tracking my habits/cardiac rhythm and sleep debt. But I just went and cancelled my renewal of the subscription since it doesn’t look like it’s going to be fixed any time soon. I wish the support team could give me more insight on what’s going on.

One of the best sleep/productivity & performance apps I’ve seen. Imagine having a personal team of doctors, scientists, and performance-optimization enthusiasts who continually review the latest research on sleep and well-being to update an algorithm that provides you with personalized guidance on how best to optimize your sleep and productivity. Moreover, they don’t just offer guidance on “how” best to calm down and sleep well and “when,” but also when your best times and worst times are for productivity, how much sleep debt you have, and automatically get data (once you give permission) from multiple sources (Fitbit, oura, Apple health). Only thing I would ask for is a longer free trial period than just 7 days.

Trial Notification Issues. Update: I was able to get a refund for the subscription thankfully. My initial review was made in anger although I now realize there was no malicious intent by the developers, and I should have been more aware of when the trial ended, although I hope they fix it such that it notifies you before the trial ends as it says in the app. I like the app as a whole, it has very beautiful design and it provides great action/suggestions to help track sleep. My reasons for knocking off the star initially were the high cost and the issue with the end of trial notification. I signed up for the 1 week trial and it said I would be notified 2 days before my trial was up so I could cancel if I don’t want to continue, but I never received such notification and was charged $60

Great app, needs accommodations for insomnia!. I have loved this app so far, I had no idea how complicatedly important sleep really is in our day-to-day lives! On a personal note, I have struggled with insomnia for YEARS. I’ve had to rely on prescriptions to help me fall asleep, and that is an entire mess in and of itself. I would love it if this app had some kind of setting or really anything that could help users like me who struggle with insomnia, and don’t know how to manage it properly. I’m not exactly the brightest individual, so I really don’t have much of a suggestion for what could be done to help me. I really do look forward to using this app in the future to really help me give insight into my sleep habits, and how much of an impact my sleep has on me!

Not worth the buy-in. So I wrote a review which was apparently discarded after an update which is totally ridiculous so I’m putting it back up AGAIN. This app does some nice things in guiding you toward a better schedule for some activities related to sleep. However, when life gets in the way, you simply backtrack on your sleep debt and feel awful about it. The app could track only positive, forward progress toward goals, but since it doesn’t, you feel bad about it and don’t want to look at it. On top of that, I had to pay for an entire year of it before figuring this out. Beyond that, the response I got from the developer from my original review was a condescending, “sorry RISE isn’t a good fit for you,” like somehow I’m not the correct kind of human for the app. Face it, folks: the app has user experience issues. Own up to them and improve. Don’t blame the users.

Great app, 1 request on the to-do list ordering. Great app by the way. Been the most helpful in keeping track of why I might be so tired all the time. The brain dump list is a great feature. There is an issue with it. You can’t change the order of the to-do list after you write everything down. Some things I write at the end of the list end up being something I really want to prioritize at the top when I wake up. Could we have it so the items in the brain dump list could easily change order. Maybe drag one item to the top and the other to the bottom. There are some list ux examples that do that already, allowing to change the order of a list by dragging the items.

Great App *UPDATE*. Look I’m not gonna deny that this is a great app, to the point that even after the free trial I went ahead and bought monthly subscriptions. But I’ve noticed that after the trial is over the app isn’t running as smoothly and it’s being stubborn when I try to adjust my information. It’s not updating and nothing is changing. it’s not even saving when I change my sleep information. I just don’t get the correct information and have to hope it fixes itself tomorrow. Considering I’m paying to use the app now I shouldn’t have to *hope* the app fixes itself. ***UPDATE*** Leon from Rise support reached out to me about the issue asking for more information. So I emailed them and let them know in further detail about what was happening and they informed me that there is a scheduled update for the app fixing some of the issues I was speaking about prior to this update. I honestly highly respectThat they’ve reached out to me in such a timely manner and shown a drive to make this app the best that it could be by valuing each and everyone of our responses. Got to give mad props when it’s due.

Know How to use your Energy. This isn’t just a sleep app. This is something new. It predicts peaks and dips in energy you experience during the day based on sleep. It changes every day. You move your big tasks to the peaks, and your small tasks to your dips. You wind-down at night, and fall asleep during an ideal window. If you can’t sleep you get up for a reset. Instead of scheduling your life based on alarms, create a rhythm based on energy that helps you sleep better, think clearly, and accomplish your goals. Get the app, try it, and within 5 days you’ll feel a big difference. Can’t wait to see how I feel in a month. Thank you Rise. I recommend this app to everyone.

Yet Another Subscription, But Worth it. I was fully gonna cancel this subscription after a month. I do that with a lot of apps I just want to try, and figured this would just be another one. But... I love it. I have found my lifestyle actually changing because of this app!! I’m more aware of my productivity, when my brain is elsewhere (when to not fight the procrastinating) and when to dive back in. I love the widgets I can use. And sleep debt tracking is honestly SUCH a game changer. Way more helpful than simply tracking your hours asleep (which is what I was originally doing). I feel more aware of the tolls my lack of sleep has on my body, and how to care for it until I’m back in the green. I’m giving it 4 stars because it’s kinda pricey, and I think the interface could be better (not a fan of the little pop up windows in the main screen). On to another month of Rise!

In a nutshell: Rise is frustrating. Another app that plays into your newest addiction: Dataism. Interesting to learn the information, but having someone spit your sleep debt in your face every day isn’t really helpful for neurodivergent people (like those with ADHD) who will look at the clock, and then glance at it again in what feels like 5 minutes later and it’s actually been two hours. I put my phone on airplane-mode at night to stop the calls and texts (and notifications) from interrupting my sleep and so apparently that means that my app is perpetually “calculating.” It’s calculating so many things for so long, it’s just a time vampire at this point. I don’t see any further reason to have this eating up my time or the space on my phone, just using sleep debt to stress me out. Also, they don’t show how to easily change the notifications you get for bed-time (I still don’t think there’s a way to do it manually in the app) so if you need the reminder to go to sleep to be earlier, it’s just going to keep reminding you for whatever hour has been most natural for you so far for whatever your sleep pattern has already been, even if it’s not helping you get sleep. In a nutshell, Rise is frustrating.

Doesn’t accurately track sleep at all. If you have a sleep schedule that isn’t exactly the same every night or you don’t use your phone up until the very moment you pass out it won’t track your sleep accurately. If you happen to not use your phone for a bit close to your sleep schedule it’ll say your sleeping. And you cannot delete that bit of sleep off the schedule because it was from the automatic phone motion tracking. And it won’t track any sleep after the time it thinks you should be awake. So if you slept extra on a weekend or if you stayed up a little late and got up a little late it won’t track the extra sleep at all and it’ll add sleep debt for the staying up even though you got the full amount of sleep. It really is a useless app. Somehow even more useless than apples own slew tracking

Great! + 2 suggestions. I like this app a lot. The wealth of data and educational info is amazing. It would be great to be able to add my own activities in certain categories (like my morning routine or morning tasks) since the existing activities don’t apply. The other customization that would make the data more accurate is being able to log a night of fragmented sleep instead of just a single block. For example there was a night where I slept at 9 pm and woke up at 12:45 am. I couldn’t fall back asleep until 4, but rise only logged 4-9 am. Note- I updated my review from 4 to 5 stars bc the developers responded to my feedback, and I was even able to log my fragmented sleep last night. I really appreciate that! Thank you!

Good to know my energy cycle but hard to achieve multiple goals. I have several issues with this app. One of them has been mentioned multiple times that you can’t delete a wrong sleep(like I put done my phone during the night but I could not sleep at all for the next 3 hours, it will still be counted and there is no simple way to delete it). I like to see my energy cycle during the day but I also want to be able to wake up early etc. the app only allows one goal when setup and I’m wondering can it be multi task? Such as come up with a plan to help me get up earlier. The last is about the charge - it seems a big commitment to do a annual subscription. A monthly subscription will work a lot better

Helpful and keeps me accountable. Highly recommend! It’s nice to know when I will be feeling low and high energy so I can plan my day around it and/or not feel like I’m being lazy when really it’s just a dip in energy. Also keeps me accountable for good sleep hygiene which I really struggle with. I like the built in go back to sleep audio things too because I wake up in the middle of the night often. I think it’d be cool if the developers could add an alarm clock function too. I used to calculate my wake time based on sleep cycles which is apparently bunk, but it’d be nice to have a suggested wake time with an alarm incorporated anyway.

Worth it 😴. I’ve been using Rise for six months now, and can absolutely say it’s the best “sleep” app I’ve used - quotations because it’s less about sleep tracking and more about optimizing your energy during the day, setting you up for better sleep at night, and tracking cumulative “sleep debt” instead of dubious insights into a single night. That said, it’s not perfect. There’s not enough granularity to the notifications, and syncing sleep tracking with my Apple Watch has been weird. Many times, I’ve been woken up an hour or two too early because the app assumes I’m awake and sends a notification that I couldn’t opt out of. I attempted a couple workarounds, but ultimately disabled alerts on my watch. Which is a shame, because the morning/bedtime alerts I *opted in* to were genuinely helpful. Lately I’ve been inundated with alerts about light exposure, which are just not welcome. Rise, *please* let us turn these off. Overall, the subscription fee is worth it. I used an Oura ring for two years and it ultimately made me more anxious. Rise has improved my relationship with sleep, for which this recovering insomniac is very grateful.

Unresolved after 9mos TS Basic Sleep Dept Tracking. Do your due diligence and search the web for reviews on this app. This app is a complete scam. Don’t pay for it. The entire premise is that your daily energy is based on sleep debt. OK great. So why does the app ignore my sleep needs and calculate my sleep debt based on an arbitrary number far less than what I have it set to use? I have emailed support about this issue specifically since 4/6 (other issues prior). They told me this sleep debt calculation (the entire premise of their app) was not a priority for them to fix. After a total of 8mos of follow ups, they have simply stopped responding to my emails to support, since none of their “solutions” resolved their app issue. So I paid $60 for a year of TS and an app that doesn’t work- to a company who is not concerned about fixing it for us. You do the math.

Couldn’t ask for more. I’ve always had trouble sleeping and have noticed dips in my performance after sustained periods of sub-optimal sleep, but I haven’t had the tools to help rectify it. Using Rise helps keep me on track and I love that I can see hard data, in real time, to track my sleep and to ensure that I’m performing at the highest level. After just a few weeks I’ve seen real, positive changes and have a roadmap to keep them up. Rise works with you whatever your schedule without “shaming” you like other programs might (with the resulting anxiety and decrease in sleep that can come from worrying about sleep). Overall, it’s a user friendly and incredibly empowering experience that can keep you churning when you need it.

Great app needs some changes to make it extra good. This is a great app to help me follow my natural rhythms and get a better night of rest. The dips info is extra helpful bc I don’t beat myself up when I don’t feel motivated to do something I need to do. I’m reminded I’m feeling low energy and that’s why I’m not motivated, not bc I’m lazy which is a word I try to stay away from in describing myself. the area that needs improvement is the nap time. I nap at odd hours which lowers my sleep debt but let’s say I wake at 9pm from a nap the app doesn’t adjust and it tells me to make my bedroom sleep-friendly at the same time every night, which could be an hour after waking up from my nap. It would be helpful if the app allows for the time of the nap to be entered and adjust the sleep time accordingly.

4.2.23 - not ready for prime time. I have had a medical trauma and a nasty bout of the resulting insomnia. The marketing and GUI (betraying my age) on the app are quite slick, but the data gathered really subpar. There’s not even an option for my situation – millions of English speakers have insomnia. An argument can be made that you could choose another option for the euphemism, they had one. I don’t remember what the euphemism is, but the real problem is that the app doesn’t work. I set up for data sources five configurations: my Apple Watch, my iPhone, resting on my nightstand, my phone on my mattress, and finally my iPhone plugged in on my mattress to hear the ambient noise. NONE of them gave the app accurate data. They want me to correct it, as it missed all the times I got up to go to the bathroom, or that I was awake for about a half an hour before I got out of bed. Don’t know what you folks did for beta testing, but it was none too rigorous. Update: the developer contacted me with the standard gosh we’re sorry and stay in touch if you want to. It is not appropriate to offer para-medical apps like yours that are not even remotely close to ready/functional. Go away and fix it, and contract rigorous beta testing by disinterested parties.

WILL CHARGE YOU $60 WITH NO WARNING. I downloaded this app a few days ago, maybe right at 7 days ago, and activated a 7 day free trial. Now I know that if I don’t cancel the free trial, it will go on and charge, but there was an explicit option when signing up for the trial to send a notification before the trial ends. I enabled this option but received no notification whatsoever, I just happened to check my bank account a few minutes ago and see that I had a new $60 charge from Apple. Honestly other than that the app is kind of interesting and has a cool GUI, but you don’t need this app to improve your sleep. Everything this app offers is knowledge that you can find for free on the internet. I would give this 3 stars but I’m so annoyed at getting auto-charged with no warning when I SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED ONE that I’m giving it 1.

Doesn’t work at all for me. Rise were professional enough to refund, no question and ensure I would not get billed again. However I still want to know how they were able to bill my bank directly without it showing up in my Apple purchase list. That’s surely a scam. App told me I should go to sleep at 1.15am and wake up around 10am. How am I going to get to work without losing my job? Also it didn’t record the second day’s sleep- first day it collected previous night sleep when I installed app. 2nd day nothing, even after 3 hours awake. It asked me to input manually. The only good thing was the $3.99 for a 1 month trial. App is also not intuitive and has no flexibility to adjust many of the goals. I’m going to try and get a refund even for the month trial.

So helpful in learning sleep patterns. I did the free trial and I really learned a lot about my sleep patterns. It helped me stay mindful of when to go to sleep, sleep quality, and predicting ups and downs. I loved the educational piece too. Recommendation is to have an option to take into consideration diagnoses and medications that affect sleep. I have narcolepsy and so have to schedule naps during times where it says I might be “peak.” I take stimulant medication and my peaks would be right after my dosing. Would love to build that in! I love that it says no caffeine after a certain time. I do not take caffeine but could apply that to my meds. Thanks!

Would love to see caffeine tracking!. Overall, this app is really solid. The user interface is very easy to navigate and there aren’t a ton of different things to learn how to use. The one-week trial seems sufficient enough to understand the capabilities of the app. I have only been using the app for a few days and I feel like I’ve gotten the hang of it. One thing that I really wish I could integrate into this app (which I know the other apps are on the App Store for) would be to track my caffeine intake. There is already great evidence explaining how long caffeine lasts once it is in the body (half life), and I feel like it would be relatively straightforward to integrate these capabilities into assisting with tracking your energy levels throughout the day.

Excellent Customer Service. This is a really interesting app! It takes a completely different approach to sleep and sleep science than other apps do. This app gives you the insights to plan your day around your rises and dips; and it’s surprisingly accurate. The customer service team with Rise Science is truly spectacular. I reached out through the app’s contact section and they had answers for me within minutes. My questions and concerns were addressed perfectly and I felt well treated by them. I highly recommend this app to anyone interested in improving their sleep habits or to anyone who is interested in sleep science.

Great App, but could use more features to match the price. I love the app and it definitely helps me understand that it is normal to have energy dips during the day. I also love the user friendly interface and informative articles! But I do not feel like it is worth the amount money I paid! For $60 a year, I think it would be nice to have additional features like food/caffeine intake and how that could effect your energy/sleep potential or somewhere to track your daily mood to see how it lines up with the sleep debt. If the features are the same by this time next year, I would pay $20-$30 to update my subscription, but I most likely will not be re-subscribing if the app hasn’t added more features and the price stays at $60.

Like the concept. I’ve updated my initial review to reflect customer service reaching out to me about my experience, and because Apple provided me with my request for a refund. For this, I have added two stars. I really want to like the app, but it is not suited to people with non-standard sleep schedules. It is nice to be able visualize your energy peaks and valleys in the format provided, and receive notifications to help your behaviors, e.g., when to stop drinking caffeine, when to begin wind-down activities for your day. Personally, the bedtime goal provided to me is not possible due to my work schedule. I’ve been told by customer service that bedtime goals adjust slowly based on sleep times and sleep debt. For the three weeks I used the app, my bedtime goal did not adjust at all, even when I achieved a satisfactory sleep debt number. I appreciate the app encouraging me to go to bed earlier to help with my sleep debt, but my preference would be to have a bedtime goal that accurately reflects when I am able to go to bed related to my life. The in-app support system is convenient. But in the support conversations I started, I only got initial answers to my questions. My follow-up questions went completely unanswered. It would be nice if the customer service email was more readily available, as I only see it listed in their responses to negative reviews.

Inaccurate Calculations. This app is wonderful in theory, but garbage in practice. I went into a week with about 6 hours of sleep debt, and every single day that week I slept 9-9.5 hours. My sleep need is 8 hours, so this should have reduced my sleep debt close to zero. It reduced my debt to around 4 hours. I contacted the developer on October 23rd, and was given a generic answers that didn’t address my specific situation. I asked again for help, and was told just to request a refund from the Apple store. I was outside of the refund window, so again I asked the developer to look into my issue. He acknowledged what needed to be done (although didn’t overtly state that he would do it), and I haven’t heard anything else from him in over a week. Between time spent trying to get a refund (at the developer’s suggestion) and time spent trying to get the developer to help, I have wasted hours and hours on this app. I’m more mad that I can’t get my time back than that I can’t get my money back. Don’t waste your time with this app if you care about accurate information.

Highly recommend!. After suffering with insomnia and poor energy for decades, RISE has taught me that I have TWO energy peaks. I have been MUCH more productive during the evening peak, and now I go to bed earlier, sleep much better and experience less stress. Before RISE, I would work all day, powering through without any breaks. Exhausted, I took short naps after dinner on the couch, and then stayed up way too late. The first week with RISE I had a sleep debt of 7-8 hours!!! Now, I work hard to keep my sleep debt under 3 hours! As a test prep specialist, I now recommend RISE to my students taking high stakes college entrance exams and for college in general.

So depressed at how much this wants me to sleep. It’s saying I need 9.5 hours. It’s not giving me enough time to workout before work. When I think how early I need to go to bed, it makes me feel like I’m just floating through life working all day to barely get to enjoy any free time. Almost all my time will be spent working, sleeping, and doing needed things like chores. So RIP my hobbies. Guess there’s time for a little TV and the end. God I don’t know if I want to follow its suggestion or not. I have autism, and I can’t help but wonder if this is programmed to read me based on more neurotypical habits, if that’s skewing things. I want to see if I can have it assess my sleep needs again, but I can’t figure out how. Honestly this app has given me an existential crisis. I’m just going to spend my life working and sleeping for all eternity. What is the point of my existence 😭

Ridiculous price for a decent app. I was curious to try the Rise app and registered for the free trial - which was just a few days. Couldn’t even spring for a week, guys? It was barely any time to see if the app delivered on its promises - and before I knew it, BAM! I was hit with a $60 subscription fee. This app is NOT worth 60 bucks. And the lack of an option to pay monthly is nonsense. Additionally, while I did like the unique focus on sleep debt, I found the “education” piece lacking in any real scientific evidence. The app claims cycles of sleep don’t matter in terms of energy levels and that the commonly held knowledge that waking during different cycles can have negative impacts is a myth. Well, fine if true - but there was absolutely zero reference to scientific articles supporting this statement. If the app was, say, around $20 for a year I would have stuck with it, but as it is, I’ve requested a refund.

Life long horrible sleeper approves. This app in 4 days is helping me change my life long insomnia. I’ve always felt like if I could improve my sleep my whole life would improve. Well i’m currently in medical school and this statement is truer than ever. This app in 3 nights 4 days has helped me understand what I never did. Simply put the circadian rhythm is just that it’s a rhythm. It’s got highs and lows and this app programs the highest points as “productive periods” and the lows as “tired / fatigue points. The last one being your melatonin state at night this means you want to fall asleep at that point. This app also allows you to memory dump at night to wake up with a “to do list” this is a big part of sleep problems. Personally I have ADD so sleep was always hard because my brain won’t shut off. This app allows me to write a list of everything on my mind put my phone down and go to bed. 2 suggestions to Devs 1) Make more Binaural beats for sleep calm and relaxation that can be played through the app. 2) I should be able to set an alarm clock through the app to wake me up when 1) the timing is right based on my sleep and 2) when I “set the alarm”

Eye-opening & helpful. I’ve been using Rise for about a week & it’s been eye opening to learn that the app can pretty accurately predict when I will have energy & when I will be struggling. It is helping me to realize that it’s normal to feel groggy upon waking, that an afternoon dip will occur & I can aim to get to bed at the most opportune time to fall asleep. I hope to keep using it to get enough sleep, without waking up in the middle of night. But, even if I do wake up, this app has helped me realize that my energy “schedule” isn’t impacted too much. The Support Team also has been very responsive & helpful!

Charged me without notification. This app charged me $60 even though I check marked the option for a notification of when my trial would end. I logged on today to cancel the trial as I hadn’t received a notification (but knew it was going to end sometime today) and saw that I had already been charged. I am pretty upset about that especially since it explicitly told me I would receive a notification about payment. Outside of that, I think there are a lot of improvements that can be made to this app. It makes a lot more sense to be able to input user feedback regarding if you actually feel more awake or sleepy and compare that to the times provided by the app. I also feel that some of the interface is a little clunky and cluttered. There also needs to be better contrast between the color scheme- everything looks very dark. Overall, I wouldn’t really recommend this app for sleep use as I believe it’s not very user friendly in terms of incorporating user feedback.

Terrific App!. I’ve always had issues sleeping. For one reason or another, whether it be college, then my early adult social life, or my now inconsistent work schedule, my sleep life has always been terrible. I was convinced that I had accumulated enough sleep debt to where I’d never catch up or wake feeling refreshed again. Truly. This app gave me a starting point. Though I don’t always agree with its energy predictions, since I’ve actually taken the time to track my sleep debt, and intentionally catch up where needed, I can say that my sleep, and my energy, have gone from ON AVERAGE a 3/10, to a solid 7/10. On average. It’s not perfect, but as a fickle dude with ADHD, it’s given me the guide rails I’ve needed to get things together, and for me, that’s priceless. Worth EVERY PENNY.

Chronobiology to the masses!. This is the first review I’ve ever written, but I’ve had RISE for a year now and I tell everyone I know to download it. I’m a PhD candidate studying circadian rhythms and love how RISE has made it easy to keep on top of my own circadian hygiene. Additionally, when I ran into an issue with renewing my billing, their customer service was super responsive and incredibly helpful. It would be cool if they could add in some other features that contribute to your circadian cycle (like recording when you first saw outside light each day and for how long or something), but I’m sure that’s in the works and the app is honestly worth it as is! Thank you for making chronobiology more accessible!!

The only thing it’s missing. I really enjoy this app. I could always tell that my energy was low at certain times of the day, but I was less aware of the science behind it. Now I try to schedule fewer meetings during that time or adjust my expectations for myself. I appreciate the smart bedtime to match my melatonin window. I can’t say that I always follow it. The one thing I wish this app had was the ability to adjust the bedtime/wake time based on my real-life schedule. I work out in the mornings or have an early meeting and there’s no way to adjust it. In a way it feels defeating because the science of the app says this is my ideal bedtime and wake time, but that isn’t always reality.

Extremely disappointing. My friend shared with me a one month free trial to Rise so I could try it out. First, the month trial key did not work. It showed as a two week trial. I retried it several times, but I couldn’t get it to show one month of time. Then, I didn’t personally find it accurate for my cycles, and I found it a bit demoralizing to be told I was going to hit a slump. Kind of backwards placebo, you know? Anyway, that’s just me, so I just cancelled my subscriptions (two trials showed in my Apple subs, because I’d tried the referral link more than once). Surprised me today a month later (so I guess the month long trials did work?) when I was charged not just once but three times for this app! I double and triple checked my Apple subscription and family subs list and three instances of Rise showed up, all cancelled. Not sure how I got charged nearly 200 dollars, but I guess if you try it, be sure to watch your charges.

Useful, but overpriced and kills my battery. I do like this app and it has helped me track my sleep debt and energy peaks, though it doesn’t give me tracking of important factors that I know also have an impact. I don’t like that there isn’t an option for an actual monthly subscription, the price is advertised as a monthly cost but you have to pay for a full year at the end of the trial week. The other issue that I have with this app, which will likely make me stop using it soon despite having had to pay for the annual subscription, is that it uses up an enormous amount of battery power - it has consistently constituted 75% of my battery usage since I started using it. I have to charge my phone twice a day because of just this one app. Don’t get this if you need your phone battery to last more than 6h at a time.
