The nostalgia is real!. (I must disclose that I am a huge fan of the game. I have completed it on almost every system it has released on. However I have tried to set my biased aside and contribute to the development of my all time favorite titles) The Controls would be better if you could customize the layout but still the same great game from my memories. I am playing on an iPhone XR and the right d-pad does get in the way sometimes. They have added a spell quick cast button which is nice seeing as how you are using a touch screen for input. Voice acting sounds a little different from the original and fighting enemies seem to accommodate to the use of a mobile device. (ie. move slower or jump shorter) With a little tweaking this would be the perfect game for on the go. Plus you can’t beat the price!

Amazing game, terrible controls. The game is as good as you remember and it includes the bonus characters you can play as. The ONLY problem is the controls are horrible. Half the time you attack, the controls don’t recognize it or your character is constantly getting turned around when you dodge or jump. You will die a LOT and it’s directly related with the poor handling of the controls. It’s frustrating to jump over an enemy’s attack and right as you time a counter, it doesn’t recognize you are pushing the attack button or trying to use your special item. This game itself is 5/5 but considering every single complaint on here is related to everyone mentioning the sporadic control, I’m surprised they haven’t addressed the issue as the game has been out on the App Store for a couple of years. Please fix/update and I will gladly give this the 5 stars it deserves.

Of course. Absolutely giving this game 5 stars. I’ve played every single final fantasy game. This one being my favorite besides lords of shadows 2. The controls are difficult at first and if you don’t have a Bluetooth controller it can be a pain. I understand the game just came out and I know you will implement a future update fixing the touch screen controls. With that being said if you have big fingers like mine it takes a second to adjust. Great game like always and if apple is serious about making money of gaming this is the way to go. 3 dollars??? Are you serious?? Got this game the same day it came out.

Amazing game. As many have already said, this is a great game and I was really happy to find it for 3 bucks. I use a ps4 controller anyways so this was perfect and the controller works real well. It feels like I’m playing the OG version but I can use the analog stick if I want (I won’t). The graphics all look the same, not sure why people need to nitpick a 20 year old game. The music is fine too, most of the Rome my phone is silent so who cares about the VO? I got rid of my PSP years ago and now I can finally lay SOTN again wherever I want. Seriously, it’s $3. If you can’t find than much money for a fun game with tons of gameplay, you probably shouldn’t be wasting your time playing phone games anyways. Maybe open a lemonade stand or mow lawns. My ONLY issue needs to be fixed for me to give this the full stars it deserves. Give me the map when I’m using a controller. That’s it. Edit: on the PS4 controller it is apparently using the right analog stick, not clicking it, just bumping it. So that’s ok.

Decent but some bugs. As others have pointed out the controls are a bit tough, especially using hands while jumping or trying to use shield and weapon at the same time. The buttons for magic spells are cool but makes it too easy to spam Soul Steal. A major bug is the clock room in the center of the castle. The clock hand freezes and you can’t access the Colosseum and progress in the game. You can tell if this is happening if the clock isn’t making a ticking sound. You may have to reload the game (not Continue it) to get the emulator to track the system clock again. And no it is not the Saturn version as some other reviewers claim. It’s the PSP version with new text/touch menus for the phone.

Great Game, OK Port. The game itself is great, all the reviews and the game’s history will tell you that. As many people have stated, the touch controls are a bit janky, but it’s nothing that will prevent you from completing the game. As for how the game functions, it runs well, very smooth, the only complaint I have is that recently my completed save file was wiped and is now non-existent in the game, so be wary or make sure to have backups in that case. To fix touch controls I would suggest adding the options to move each set of buttons around the screen, add the ability to change how opaque the buttons are, and add the ability to change how large each button is.

Fix the controls. The controls can be frustrating sometimes, but after playing through several times in the last week I can’t really give this game less than 4 stars. I’m still experiencing a crash bug if I watch tactics for Maria Renard, and if you could fix that, make the controls a bit more customizable (I really appreciate the spell button in particular but mainly I would just like a bigger “right hand” button), and make the game pause automatically if the app is minimized or suspended, then I think that would cover every bug I’ve found as well as every gripe I have, at which point I think this is a 5* game. It’s probably a 5* game with just the crash bug fixed.

Good Port, Mediocre Controls. This game still holds up pretty well and at this point there isn’t much to talk about since everything there is to be said has already been said. What’s important here are the controls for this mobile port. While touch screens are the bane of mobile platforming this game does its best to accommodate for the lack of buttons and provides shorts, but even a season veteran, such as myself, has a hard time adjusting to these controls. I find some of the early bosses to be difficult because of the touch screen controls and the real difficulty of this port comes from battling the controls themselves. Thank goodness this port has controller support or else I would be giving this review of the game three stars instead of four. And if someone at Konami is reading this please port this game over to PC and Switch. A lot of fans, including myself, would love to see this game on other systems.

This port is awesome!. SOTN is, in my opinion, the beat Castlevania game. I had low expectations for a mobile version of such an incredible game, but holy cow it’s great! I haven’t tried playing with touch controls yet bc I've always struggled using them in other games. Luckily, it is FULLY compatible with game controllers :) I paired my Xbox controller via Bluetooth, and launched the game to see the very first screen acknowledging the gamepad. It even changes up the UI to match what buttons to push. (RB LB to switch between menu tabs, button combos for special moves/spells) Lastly, if you want to know about cheats, they also work. Name your character X-X!V’’Q to enable luck mode and see what I mean :)

Buggy, but forgivable. Castlevania SOTN has been my favorite video game ever since it came out in 1997. I’ve played it through dozens of times. I was looking forward to having it with me on my phone, even without physical buttons. Overall, it’s a faithful port. I miss the original voiceovers, and the script has changed sightly. The 1-touch spells are a nice translation: key combos would be difficult. The item screen is totally redesigned and allows for filtering, which is nice. However, the Mist is very difficult to use when it needs to be activated mid-jump (as in the library.) The responsiveness just isn’t there. Worse, there are some bugs that should have been caught on a simple play through. The Clock statue doesn’t open after the prerequisite 1 minute wait: you have to close the game, copy a new save file, and play from the new save file. Also, when I got the Sword Familiar card, it instead gave me two Fairy Familiars. Which is interesting: I have no idea what to do with two Fairy Familiars. For getting a decent SOTN gameplay fix, it’s passable. But for the real SOTN experience, I’ll stick to other platforms. ...amending my review: the Sword card is in a different location than in the original game. But I still have two Fairy cards. Also, the Sword Brothers Glitch has been fixed. Unfortunately.

Needs control options. I love this port! It’s done incredibly well the only issue I’m having is the controls. I don’t mind the scaled down controls with the actions laid out on the side but the sensitivity is so low that I can’t move quickly in a dicey situation as well as attack or jump. I have to mash the buttons super hard for them to work. I’d like the option to dial in the the sensitivity as well as the button layout and be able to change the size of them. I’ve played other ports that let you do this and it was a huge help. If you could make this happen this would be a 5 star review and not a 4. I’m giving a 4 because I’m so stoked that someone brought a faithful port to IOS. This is my favorite game of all time and I’m happy to have it but things can always be better.

a timeless classic that never gets old. I remember playing the japanese version of this in 1997, I wasn’t a huge castlevania fan at the time but this game was simply magical. of all the sequels and clones that came after, this game is still the best of them all. amazing soundtrack, for the time really good graphics that hold up better than any polygonal game of the ps1 era, a story that isn’t too complicated or too simple, the random loot drops… this game was highly influential and i think you will have a hard time finding anyone who has played it and doesn’t love it. play this with a backbone one controller!

Great game but controls really need work. I love that there’s a mobile version of this game. SOTN is a classic game but the touch controls in place now make it very hard to play. The game requires quite a bit of precision and both the dpad and the attack and jump buttons are all very difficult to get to work 100% of the time. For example, the first boss fight took forever to clear for me because I kept taking damage when a jump input wouldn’t be picked up. That combined with a limited window of invincibility frames when you take a hit often times means you end up taking damage when you shouldn’t and then getting hit multiple times to really add salt to the wound. It’s not unplayable in the state it’s in but I suspect I’ll be playing the the game only in shot bursts for now because of the frustrating controls. Hopefully they can be fixed soon.

Ignore all other reviews. The original voice acting sucked and they didn’t just change it. They changed the voice acting when they ported it to the psp so that’s nothing new. The new touch screen menus are great. I’d recommend playing it on a bigger model of I phone. I can see why you would have trouble playing it on a smaller model. Personally I see no flaws with this port and if you are new to the game I highly recommend down loading this. It’s a great port and a great game. Konami finally did something right. They have really let me down over the years and I hope this is a sign of change. Side note. The ps1 version was a bad port anyway and was unfinished.

Love the game but fix the controls.. I’m sure other reviews have said this but the game is a great port and I’m looking forward to getting into it... as soon as they fix the awful controls (or lack thereof). You can’t just slap the imprint of an old school control controller, make its activation areas hypersensitive and call it a day. The game feels clunky, unresponsive and needlessly difficult with its current movement system. Please add controller support as well as on screen customization and button mapping. The left thumb movement pad should not be fixed. This alone would infinitely improve the game. It’ll get 5 stars once they update. Update: Still waiting for them to fix the controls. No reason not to given all the complaints. Second update: So I realized they really designed this to be used with an external controller. You need to buy a Bluetooth controller and download an app that allows you to customize your controllers input and locations. Something like ShootingPlusV3. With those two additional times this game was a real treat. I’m giving it 5 stars now. But really, they should have said something about using a controller!

Almost perfect port. As a long time fan of the Castlevania series, especially SOTN, I was thrilled that it got ported to IOS, and I wasn’t disappointed. The layout didn’t take long to get used to, and they added some great features to avoid inputing complex button pushes repeatedly. One small thing is that in Orlox’s Quarters, in the room with the sword familiar card, instead of getting the sword familiar you get a duplicate fairy familiar with a different spelling. Still have to try out the duplicate to see if there are differences or if this is a bug. Otherwise good job! Edit: Japanese version is different, so everything was found. Excellent job!

Exceptional. Castlevania SOTN has always been one of my favorite PS1 games. I’ve fondly talked about it for the past 20+ years to other gamers since I’ve first played it. I deeply regretted selling it, only wanting to buy another copy of it. (In which it is selling between $80-several hundred dollars.) Initially seeing it available in the App Store, I was skeptical. Could it really transfer well to an iPhone &/or iPad? Would I even like SOTN as much as I did in the past? The answer is an emphatic “YES!” to both questions. I tip my hat to Konami and Apple for making this a reality. I hope they will also release Harmony Of Dissonance, as well as Aria Of Sorrow. Please may it be, and thank you for bringing SOTN back as it once was.

Desperately needs custom controls. I mean for $3 you’re essentially getting one of the greatest games ever made, and playable anywhere now. But the sad fact of the matter is: this port is completely broken (read: unplayable) by terrible, virtual touch buttons. On the surface there are cool ergonomic additions, like shortcut for spells (likely due to the terribly unresponsive virtual D-pad), but the equipped hand/ attack buttons are way too small, and there is currently no way to resize or reposition them (we’re in 2020; this oversight is inexcusable!). Half of the time the attacks don’t even register — forget about trying to even jump-attack. The static screen-space-hogging D-Pad also makes using Subweapons extremely frustrating and unreliable, often turning Alucard around instead. And I’m playing on an SE, so the buttons are in fact miniscule! KONAMI: Fix these game breaking issues and I’ll revise my review

Making a great game slightly less great. Let me start by saying I love this game and I’ve been playing games a long time. It would have been great if the graphics were a little more detailed, especially when you have to read text on screen. That is a minor issue. The bigger issue is the control and placement. The direction control is to large and partially encroaches on the screen making it hard to see enemies coming. Simplify it by turning it into a stick in a circle allowing you to control direction keeping your finger down on the screen instead of clumsily sliding it hoping you stay on the direction pad. The other issue is the sizing of the action buttons. Nice to have a large jump button, except the others are a little small. It may work better to have four dual size buttons in an up/down/left/right placement instead. It’s almost like they didn’t plan for use on touch screen in hopes people would just play with a compatible controller. I honestly think fixing the resolution to be more friendly to the pixel count and cleaning up the controls would make this a 5 star game! I’ll hang in looking for improvements, but it is nice to see an A+ title make it to IOS at a $3.00 price tag.

No more excuses. This game costs $3. The price of a hamburger! Less even! What do you get for this opportunity? List below: Pros: 1) High entertainment value - About 20hours of gameplay to collect everything. Again for $3. 2) Beautiful dark atmosphere - Artistic backgrounds, thematic music that envelopes the unique regions of Castlevania. 3) Lots of variety - Many unique monsters, goofy easter eggs, Huge and stylish boss fights 2D style, fire and bloody explosions! 4) This app lets you reload to a nearby area if you die. - You will die. :) Cons: 1) Cramped and precise controls - But this makes the game harder, as this games is fairly long but easy 2) Different voice acting and script - The voice acting is still excellent and cheesy. This is a game about exploration; you also fight and destroy frogs, possessed furniture, and knights. You destroy half-nekkid demon chicks. Talking is almost ancillary. 3) An amazing game... - Makes you wonder why can't they all be this good? WHY?! 4) LOTS of exploration - you will get lost and die. Thank you for your time and I hope this review helps reward your curiousity!

Beautiful port, one flaw. As an avid castlevania fan, I’ve been very excited to see this port and the new Grimoire on Apple. Tickles all my nostalgia bones except for one problem: the fixed controls. It would be less torturous to play if the touch controls were free-floating like the one Grimoire of Souls has, I had so much trouble since the fingers naturally just slide over the screen without haptic feedback. It would be less frustrating to get a Bluetooth controller, but I don’t see the point in getting a piece of equipment you’d probably use for only a couple of games. All in all, good buy, hope they do alternate control schemes at some point.

True review from an actual player. Sooo this is the psp redux version of the game so if you wanted the og voices this is not that game however lets skip to the good stuff. The touch screen buttons are responsive for the most part but a controller would be better for sure, if you only have your fingers the game has shortcuts for most special moves which honestly is a huge bonus considering how its hard to do those moves on a touch screen, so far haven't noticed any slowdowns or weird glitches so as of right now is a good port. My final thoughts are, 3 dollars is worth it to have this game on the go, my only complain is i wish in the future they update the settings to change the size of some of the buttons otherwise really good port

Great game, decent-ish port, but not good for a first playthrough.. It’s Symphony of the Night on a freaking smartphone! But there are some issues. For one, 1/3 of the screen is taken up by ugly touch controls. Like all touch controls, the lack of tactile feedback makes it difficult and unsatisfying to control. Another issue I have is them not including the og dub. The og dub objectively sucked, but it was iconic, with so many quotable lines. They also redesigned all the menus, and they are quite ugly. But it’s still Symphony of the Night on a freaking smartphone! I cannot in good conscience recommend this for a first playthrough of the game (emulate the PSX version), but it’s great if you want to revisit this classic masterpiece on the go.

Just buy it! Try it! Love it!. Wow seriously for $2.99! There isn’t a single other game on my phone that comes anywhere close to how good this title is. If this game isn’t in your top 5 games of all time, then you have to buy it. You obviously haven’t played it if it isn’t. You HAVE to sync a controller but man is it 1000x worth it. The flawlessness of this game is hard to describe. The monsters, the mansion backgrounds, the music, the sound bytes, the gear selection, the magic skills, relics, familiars, it’s all gold. The game flow is so amazingly good cause it treats your brain every step of the way. Weather it’s killing a hard boss or solving a puzzle. Castlevania symphony of the night will forever be etched into my brain. Going to beat it again twice. Once for Alucard and once for Richter Belmont! Support Konami so we get more amazing $3 ports.

One of the best games of all time. I’ve been a Castlevania fan ever since I played SOTN in 1997 for the PS1. Since then, I was hooked and played the Xbox 360 and PSP adaptations of it. Mobile games typically bore me fairly quickly but this is a game that I can play over and over again without getting bored. I was ecstatic when I found out that it was being released for iOS so I had to purchase it immediately. My only complaint are the controls setup which took a little time to get used to and the change in voice cast but the game brings back all the nostalgia from when I first played it as a second grader. 5/5 star rating for sure! I hope to see Circle of the Moon or even Curse of Darkness come out in the near future.

Great game, one problem.. I’ve been itching to play this game ever since I got into Aria of Sorrow, and this port of the original Symphony of the Night is amazing! I will say that the touch controls do seem (like many other games with touch controls) difficult. They work, but they aren’t comfortable. Playing with a controller though eliminates that problem. The one problem I DO have with using wireless controllers for this game is that the button to open your map is set to UP on the right joystick. The controller that I use doesn’t have joysticks (it’s just a d-pad, L/R, Start/Select, and the A/B/Y/X buttons), so it becomes annoying having to disconnect my controller to open the map from the touchscreen and then reconnect it to play comfortably. The select button doesn’t even do anything in this port, and I know that in previous Castlevania titles the select button served the sole purpose of opening the map. If Konami could fix that and remap the map button to select, then this game would be flawless (when used with a controller).

Three bucks? It's a steal. This is easily my favorite game of all time - I've probably played through it about thirty times. This is not the original version; it has the redone voiceovers and dialogue, and the difficulty has been dumbed down a bit as in previous re-releases. From what I can tell so far, the bonus levels from the Japanese Saturn version are not present here. It would be great to have a truly complete updated version. That said, this is a fantastic game in any form, there is no doubt that if you have never played it, you have almost certainly played other games that were profoundly influenced by it. This is a good version that plays fantastically with a controller. The touch controls are good, but there are the usual inherent limitations. Can't believe this is sitting on my phone. I still have the original releases from the 90s and the strategy guides (no, none of them are for sale!), and an iOS version is a treat, to say the least. Thank you Konami!

Amazing port with a few flaws. This is an amazing port that brings back nostalgic memories of the original game (lost my original copy so I never got to play it since). What I wish they would’ve done was add in the extra areas that were put into the SEGA Saturn version of the game (after all Maria does become a playable character here, but nothing else). The flaws I will say is the wonky touch controls since pulling off a jump attack is very difficult, it also has a few glitches; upon getting the Spirit of Wolf relic it remains grayed out and I cannot transform at all. A major flaw is the tendency for the in game time to run out much faster than the original and thus not allowing you to proceed from the Clock tower in the galley to Olrox’s quarters; only way to fix this is to copy your save file and load that one instead.

A great game!!. This is my first time playing Symphony of the night and so far everything is just awesome. I had some problems with the controlling system back when I first played the game. However, I then tried to connect my Ps4 controller to my phone and It worked perfectly. For those who wants to play this game, I suggest you to get a controller because this game is a nightmare without using controller. The game required fast instinct so that's why you need a controller to deal with the enemies in the game. Even the game first came out in 1997, It still a great game until today's date. There's a lot of things to discover and you'll also get to play as another character right after you beat the game with true ending. This is a must play game if you're a Castlevania fan, and also one of the most iconic game of all time.

Still A Masterpiece. This, for a long time, has been my favorite game of all time. Castlevania is my favorite game series and I was extremely excited for Season 3 of Castlevania the Netflix show. Little did I know, to celebrate, they were releasing my favorite game of all time on the phone! As soon as I saw it I was extremely skeptical, but I got it anyway and I have to say, this has been my favorite experience with this game and I have been playing it non stop since I got it. The best part is the update controls (special buttons for combos and transformations) and the new menu screen which is very organized and allows for extremely easy access of everything. I haven’t had any issues with frame rate or glitches or any problems, really. It’s been a perfect experience and I am extremely happy with the purchase and whether you are a new fan or an old fan I highly recommend spending the money on this game and completing it, you won’t be disappointed.

Ah, My Darling Alucard!!. What a thrill to once again stalk the bloody corridors of Dracula’s Castle! Like everyone I’d like the pixels to be a little crisper, but this is a gorgeous port, and just as enthalling as when I encountered it over 20 years ago. (HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE??) I even dug out my ancient magazine/ guide as my skills are *ahem* somewhat rusty. The one caveat to this game is I absolutely HAD to buy a controller for my iPad (which thankfully I can use with many other games I already own). There is no way to achieve the jumps and attacks with just the tablet controls. Still, given the amount of pleasure this game will give me in these lockdown days makes it well worth it.

It’s not a bad way to play!. I’d like to preface that I speedrun this game regularly and I play it more than the average fan. While it seems to be based more on the Dracula X version of the game, there are some really nice slight changes that you won’t find in the original Playstation 1 NA Release. There are some new special items and features in this version that were once only available in the Japanese release! As well as modes that were only on the Sega Saturn Version, like Maria Mode! Just adds more gameplay to an already very occupying game. The only complaint I have with this version is the voices, Alucard especially sounds way cooler in the original release of the game. But there is multiple language settings! The controls are what you come to expect from iPhone games, there’s no UI customization but there is controller support! I prefer a ps4 controller but im sure you can get whatever to work. A lot of bugs are fixed in this version so casually its about as good as it gets playing SOTN today.

I keep spawning inside of a Skelton and dying right away. I just downloaded this game 20 minutes ago and I'm playing it and I died, when I tap continue, I respawn inside of a skeleton and die instantly without anytime to move, I will have to start a new game now because I'm stuck and cannot progress due to this glitch. I don't know if this is a problem in the original game or just in the mobile port but I don't know why this is happening and especially since I'm still at the very beginning of the game. I want to like this game, I will keep playing and will update my review if this problem doesn't happen anymore. Also for some reason the game is super blurry to the point where I cannot read the text, it should be pixelated instead of blurry. Also people are saying the controls are bad but I haven't used the touch screen controls because I play with a controller. I like how this game (unlike Poppy Playtime) let's you play it with a controller

Bittersweet. It was really great to see Castlevania out as an app. I couldn’t wait to find all those hidden passageways behind crushed walls and levers that opened up secrets to new gear and the upside down castle. That’s all great! And the soundtrack of continuous guitar solos with overuse of the whammy bar is quite epic......... However, the controls are absolutely weird, almost like they are intentionally difficult to navigate through. Like a game! Like the game is to figure out how to use the controls before actually playing the real game. So I haven’t played yet. I really can’t, and if I could, I wouldn’t want to have to tackle the challenge of learning the best possible solution for managing the multi-layered set of controls that must be utilized in order to play this game properly. I REALLY hope it improves. Until then, it sits in a folder.

The worst port I’ve ever played.. The best Castlevania of all time is back in the worst port on the planet. There is a section in the library where you have to jump and mist through a grate to get a power that is necessary if you want to experience this game to its full potential. This task took fifteen minutes to accomplish with these controls, and was only doable after utilizing four fingers. That’s only the start of the control problems. When and if you even can reach the inverted castle, the game becomes nearly, and in my opinion completely unplayable due to the tiny, non-customizable control scheme. This port is a straight up dumpster fire, suiting for the company Konami has become. There is absolutely no way this game was play tested, or maybe it was and that’s why it’s $3. Just learn to use an emulator and find an iso, because this port isn’t even worth three bucks. Anyone giving this review 5 stars is basing it off of their past experience, because this sure as hell is not a good experience. Taking the money you’d spend on this game and buying a box of tacks to step on would be a more enjoyable experience. Just let this company die before they ruin even more classics.

The way superior Saturn version for 3 bucks. First of all this is the superior Saturn version the backgrounds look amazing while keeping the character and enemies with the ps1 charm. The dialog is completely different for the better we have all heard the badly translated version hundreds of times. The first time I played this with my dual shock 4 and Xbox one controllers work too I was amazed how good of job Konami did on this port and the new translation blew me away and it’s so cheap. I have not had one issue gameplay wise no crashes zero. This is the definitive version of one of the pioneering metroidvania. And if you actually read all this just go buy it and use a controller and turn off on screen controls.

Good times. I’ve played this game on numerous platforms over the years. I bought the original PS1 disk at Toy’s R Us back when it released. This version is the updated one with the new voice overs but it’s still a fun play. I’ve been playing a lot using both an 8Bitdo controller as well as the PS4 controller. The PS4 controller, as of now , has the edge because the 8Bitdo cannot pull up the map at this time. (March 2020) I have several hours in and the game has only crashed once. There is a save feature that starts you at the room entrance rather than the previous save if you die. Overall I’m very happy with this port for the price. Hopefully this does well and Konami decides to port over the GB Castlevanias. This man can only hope...enjoy!

Horrible touch screen controls!. I don’t know if these reviews are from desperate hardcore fans that are so reluctant to have this game on iOS or what but.....all I’m seeing is raving reviews of this game with such atrocious touch controls! I mean....you can’t even walk forward most times without stopping and the character just stands there! Don’t get me wrong! Castlevania SOTN has a special place in my memory of good 90’s games but C’mon. The graphics also look somewhat washed out, so a better port could’ve been released. Anyways for the price of $3 and a grand 1990’s classic ps1 title, this is a steal....just be sure to have a Bluetooth gaming controller, because nostalgia aside, nobody wants to buy a game that is unplayable because of badly developed controls.

Great game, I love the port except for.... The game makes the user interface more friendly for accessing the maps or power ups like dark metamorphosis, however with the auto save feature it kind of screws up the game, I understand it’s an iOS game but because of it I get hit in between the rooms and lose health so everytime I continue the game I have even less health and makes it to the point where sometimes I have to completely delete the save file and start all over again, I don’t mind having to crawl way back from the last save room compared to having to restart the entire game

Best game ever made - play with controller!!. I am a 36 year old lady who has never written a game review in my life. I have been playing SOTN since I was about 11 years old, and have bought it on every playstation it has ever been available, and usually go back and play it all the way through once every couple of years. I saw this pop up in my App Store and the bad reviews truly made me sad and confused. Then I got to thinking about how hard it probably was to play on a touch screen so I started reading these comments. Some wonderful person mentioned that they play this game with their PS4 controller, and I had no idea you could even do that. So I connected my PS4 controller to my iPad and who knew?? This is officially my favorite platform to play this game as long as you have a controller!! It’s smooth and clear, and I just thank you so much for releasing it here!! My childhood lives on...

Great game, one weird issue.. If you’ve played this game on any of the other platforms it’s released on, it’s the same as it is there. It does have the new PSP translation that’s been featured in every port since, if you happen to be in it for the original voice acting you’ll unfortunately be disappointed by Yuri Lowenthal as Alucard. Game controls as you’d expect without a controller, which is not great. With one it’s basically as you would expect. Perfect. However, there is an odd issue on iOS 14.5. When Airplaying the game to a TV or using Bluetooth headphones, the audio is for some reason pitched down and slow. It’s fixable by only connecting the headphones after starting the game, but will come back if you switch out of the app and then back in. This doesn’t happen with wired EarPods. Super frustrating for what is otherwise a great port.

Still waiting on a true remaster.... This is more or less the exact same game that released on the PSOne in the 90s. That's not a bad thing as SOTN is hands down one of the greatest games ever made. That being said it hasn’t aged particularly well. The game has always had some balancing issues. Depending on how you tackle it, Alucard can become godlike pretty early on and never really gets challenged. Especially once you know the boss patterns, many can be cheesed way too simply. More challenging boss battles and an adaptive enemy leveling system (hunting down the most powerful times in the game would be a lot more rewarding if you knew there where still enemies that could challenge you to use them on) would go a long way to freshen this game up. Along with some new items, areas, enemies, and updated graphics. Still, until (if ever) we get a true remaster, this is still the best Castlevania out there and having it with me at all times is pretty great. I never get tired of playing through it. All time great gameplay and the best soundtrack of all time. Two last things... Controls are merely adequate, and while not awful I’d definitely recommend a controller. Some fights really require precise timing and touch screen controls just make it annoying. Why on earth replace the original classically bad voice acting with updated but still just as bad voice acting!? Get good voice actors or lean into the cheese and keep the originals.

Touch controls are ABYSMAL. Do they think I have the hands of a dextrous and clever little gnome? Who on earth could possible play this comfortably? Maybe on iPad or something it’s better, but I feel confident in saying that this is the WORST way to experience Symphony of the Night. You can use a controller, sure, but then why did I buy this game on my phone? The game itself is actually pretty good, aside from some really silly game design in some parts. Older games do tend to be cruel and unusual, and SotN is not much more cruel than the older games I’ve played, so I would probably recommend the game itself, just not with touch controls. It’s bad enough dying to a stupid boss because its a stupid boss. Dying because the dodge button is the size of a grain of salt is where I draw the line.

A decent [mobile] port. This is a decent mobile port of a seminal piece of video game history. Better yet, this is a port of the non-original, giving access to an additional playable character in addition to the already existing alternates. Curiouser yet, the requirement to complete the game before having access to alternative characters seems to have been removed. Cons: No touch control customization and no control manual. The latter point is a bigger issue than as first appears, as previous reviewers gave low ratings and uninstalled the game over such an easy fix; aside from hardcore enthusiasts of the franchise, it does not appear that everyone is aware that holding ‘up’ on the D-Pad followed by attack, allows for use of special weapons. In addition to a relative lack of explanation and customization options, the touch controls themselves are less than sharp; a common problem I suppose, but not an excuse.

Great game, horrid controls. Edit2: They removed the original dialog from the game. It was bad, but that was one of the best parts. Until original dialog is an option again, 4 stars forever. It doesn’t ruin the gameplay, but it ruins my nostalgia. Edit: Once I bluetoothed my xbone controller to my iPhone, seems SotN knows what to do with it natively. So they intended for a controller at all times. It’s not very clear on the page that they intended it this way. I moved my review from 2 stars to 4. To start, SotN is one of my favorite games of all time. The devs should know anyone can use an emulator online for free. So charging for this app was a stretch in the first place. Made worse by the Dev’s apparent apathy to the quality of the app. The touch controls were clearly never used by the devs to actually play the game. When you press a button, attack for example, you have to be DEAD center on the button. The button is 5mm wide, and if you hit anything but the 1mm center of that button, it doesn’t activate. Lazy controls, clearly cash grab for assets they had laying around. If they fix the controls, or give better options for those controls, I’ll review a full 5 stars, but the controls being trash, and unchangable, makes it 2 stars for me. Last note. If the devs had released with game originally with this kind of clunky control system, it wouldn’t be popular.

Nearly there. Castlevania SOTN is one of the greatest video games of all time and the fact that it is available for $3.00 on iOS is three stars automatically. The graphics, music, and atmosphere are still perfect. There are two major issues, though. First, the action buttons are too small. I died so many times because I tapped the button and registered no response. It would be nice if the buttons could be customized. Second, when you die, the continue screen takes far too long. There is simply no need for that. That being said, anyone who has never played this game should download it immediately. First time players without a guide will likely take about 6-8 hours to “finish” the game...no spoilers :)

Finally. I’ve been sitting on my hands waiting to get this bad boy ported to the current gen consoles. I was surprised to see this released in mobile for $2.99 when copies of the disc are still going for over $50. This brings back all of my childhood nostalgia and it’s a great mobile port. The controls will take a minute to get used to as the condensing of a physical controller to the screen space of your device obviously requires some sacrifice. The one thing that’s bumming me out is that I don’t have any sound, even after playing with the settings in the menu. But this isn’t a big deal as much as it’s just a personal preference to play the game with sound.

+5 Nostalgia, -2 Controls. Some thoughts, but reports and suggestions. Original voice acting was superior. Yes, it was campy. That’s kind of the point. Anyway! It’s a port of SOTN. Automatic 5 stars, but the controls are hot garbage. This needs interface customization — give users the opportunity to move the buttons around and resize them as needed. The controls make the game unnecessarily more difficult by either not responding as they should or just being badly located. Thank you for porting this game! Some feedback: Bugs: • Clock Room (w/statues) does not work if privacy is on / location services is off. Why? • Game was saved in caverns. I Moved to clock tower (investigating above issue). Saved game near clock tower and quit immediately after save without leaving the room or moving. Instead of going through the menu items to quit, I hit home button. Upon returning to game and selecting “continue”, game was resumed from caverns save with my progress after that point up until clock tower completely wiped. Design flaw: • Control Center must be turned off to prevent certain spurious inputs. • Battery Level alert immediately resumes game once “OK” is selected. A 3-second countdown would be valuable. • Badly needs interface customization.

Deep breath.. Let’s go back to when this title hit America! This is really the best game ever made hands down (90s), and this is what transformed so many other games to replicate its authenticity! And yet Nothing can beat it because it is what fans wanted in all the other games? they will never replicate it and meet its match. Even if this game came out on the current phones we have now, Yes I approve of this game no matter what. It’s my love life and success I had as a kid and remembered all the sweat and sleepless nights achieving the most difficult of bosses and actually using my wits to improve my skills as a gamer. And actually studied and talked with friends about skills to use and actually learning spells through guides and handbooks that didn’t come out til new game magazines gave us hints and tricks to learn that YES more stuff in the castle was to be explored!!!!!! And yet. As an adult looking back at this game and downloading it made me look at my childhood and see what I have become today. Sure problems are here and there on this download and touching the screen and not enhancing the screen bigger and making the graphics a tide more tighter to today’s standards would help it. But I just want to say thank you for releasing this title to my hands. As I can see my inner childhood grow brighter!

Really fun game with a few flaws. The game is fun, challenging, and best of all, let’s you skip the story to just enjoy the exploration and hunting. A few irks: 1. The save system is really weird. I’ve saved, chosen rather explicitly the “overwrite data” option, and still found that my game wasn’t saved. The continue option seems to work as long as the app isn’t closed in the background, which is fine as long as you don’t switch to some other task / restart your phone. 2. The touch controls are terrible, to the point that it forced me to get a physical controller. My guess is that this was just a straight port from a console (I stopped following console systems when everything moved to Call of Duty clones a decade ago) with little to no exploration of how to make it more touch friendly. There are plenty of metroidvania games on iOS that have figured out touch controls. 3. When you die (and at least for me, I die frequently) I have to sit and watch a cheesy screen that seems like it was drawn and written by a 12-year old Japanese boy (“let us go the night for pleasure, the night is young”) and you cannot clear it quickly. You have to wait like 10 seconds, just staring at that screen. Like, why? Get out of my face and go away. Let me tap a button to go back to the menu. 4. The menu system is pretty terrible (hooray Japanese OS, did they hire the folks from Sony to make this menu?) Points 1 and 3 are bugs, IMO, the other two are just due to a phoned-in port.

can’t open with Xs iOS 13.1. Need refund

A classic but.... I loved the original, as we all did, so why isn’t it the original cut scenes? Also the controls is atrocious and has anyone figured out how to use the secondary weapons?? I still love it, and I still play sometimes, but it’s near impossible to hit anything in this version, I’m sad I paid for this.

Ok. Good game, but the buttons are really small and unresponsive. Getting curb stomped in a way that never happened with other versions.

I really enjoyed this game. This game is good aside for a few minor annoyances

please fix the bug. you just can‘t jump and become fog at same time. It's really annoying!

Needs Upscaling / Video Filters. Dyed in the wool Castlevania player here, was over the moon when this was announced, have downloaded it and it all good -m however - the resolution / pixelation needs some attention, if this is running in emulation, it needs to have video filters and setting for the menu as - especially on iPad / Pro the scaling gives a lot of pixelation - needs some scan line filters with upscale settings - full screen mode would be great as well, hopefully they release the PC Engine version as well - needs to be done like the DOT EMU guys do emulated Taito games

The best version ported but without optimisation. Considering the current sorry state of Konami as a Pachinko company rather than a traditional game developer, this is probably the best we can get from it. This game will actually look better on smaller screens, it is very pixelated on the iPad Air. Game pad support is barely there, but it works. As title suggested, this is the best version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night from Sega Saturn. It has one more hidden playable character than the PlayStation version.

The game will crash. The game will crash

Three thing have to Change. First of all the game is just as good as my childhood memories. However it has three problems and please fix it ASAP. First: when ever I use the shield rod to combine the shields, it works perfectly well, but after the player change the shield rod back to some other swords, the shield lost the previous combination functions, please fix that, mainly talking about the Alucard shield. In addition, the keyboard or buttons what you like to call is not flexible! Finally why don’t separate the bat wolf and mist. Combine them in one is lame. And why do we need the skill instant button, one of the biggest joyful is to swirl the flexible button to creat the skills. In conclusion, change the numb button and make the shield rod steady no matter what other weapon took its position. Then this game will summon all the old players back, and you are going to earn a big fortune!

No Cloud Saves.... While this game is great and bug free, not having a cloud save option is a massive flaw. You will not be able to play across multiple devices and when your iOS device dies, so does all your progress.

Good game. There’s nothing else to say it’s a good game but the levels are a bit hard some times

INCREASE ATTACK BUTTON SIZE FFS. Honestly? Great game SEVERELY marred by a shonky attack button. You’ll be wanting to throw your phone at the wall with the frustration of attacks just not happening due to a tiny little attack button that has no margin for error. The jump? It’s great. Big. Works. Cool beans - and theeeen, you can’t actually fight things because you’re having to hit a tiny little thing that only responds to a dead centre poke. Hard to believe the controls were tested at length. Still - it’s an easy fix one would hope? Then it’s an easy 5 stars for a faithful port of a game that is still incredible to this day.

Can’t open game on X. Can’t open game on IPhone X. Please fix it.

Cant open game on XR. Cant open game on XR

Great game, shame about the controls. Symphony Of The Night is an all-time classic; and this is a fantastic, pixel-perfect port (If you’ll excuse the retranslated cutscenes that lack the camp quotability of the original). However, the controls themselves needed a little more time in the oven, as it’s incredibly infuriating to continually fail to perform even basic actions due to a tiny attack button and overly large directional pad. Recommended for people with a high tolerance for touch-screen controls, or that have a Bluetooth controller handy.

Major bug. Character’s stamina doesn’t recover when you collect the hearts. This is a major bug and render the game unplayable

Great game, lousy controls.. As others have said, the controls need work. The virtual direction pad and buttons are too small and unresponsive. They need to have an option to increase the size and improve the tap response. I am playing on a large iPad Pro, 3rd Gen. You will die simply because the controls are bad, not because of your ability. Would only suggest you buy this if the controls get patched. Otherwise be prepared for a frustrating experience. Apart from the control issues this is a great port and terrific value and would otherwise be worth 4 or 5 stars.

Decent port. On the iPad 7th gen, there are no weird borders. Image scaling seems right, with no weird ripples from non integer scaling. It controls well, using the 8Bitdo SN30 Pro+. Four stars and not five because it doesn’t have the original PlayStation English audio as an option. While I’m sure the improved translation and voice acting are objectively better, and more accurate, I have nostalgia for the original voice acting, and wish it were an option.

Good game but bricked my iPad. Had fun playing the game, controls are great, just as good as I’d heard, but came back to play it this morning and the app was unresponsive then my iPad completely bricked itself. Has to be this app as my iPad Pro has worked fine for months and this is the only new thing downloaded. Be careful.

Good. Take some time to get use on to the control of this game. It is amazing. Best bgm, best style of graphic, best everything. Hop next time bring more mobile version of castlevania.

Loving it so far. My favourite game of all time on my iPad. I’m stoked! Works well with a controller which I personally think is the only good way to play it.

Controls suck. Let us move the buttons around, the attack button is too small, I only hit it 20% or the time. Runs great but not much thought put into usability.

Buttons are effed. One of my childhood favs, and loving playing it a lot but the button system is really bad you have to be accurate as hell and you’ll get the buttons wrong a lot due to how small they are on screen

castlevania symphony of the night. So happy it’s ported to mobile but wished they have a option to have both voices from the old game

SOTN. Hi, if you can actually read this comment, please, release this game officially on the Switch eShop, Steam/GOG. Thank you. Kind regards, C

The port doesnt do it full justice. SOTN undoubtedly one of the best platformers made and Alucard being the most detailed charater sprite on a 2D platformer, this game sets the benchmark for games. In short, my PSP plays it better than my air which should be faster.. poorly ported and its clear its an emulation. Detailed review : This port from whichever version is good but it lacks details. It plays poorly on my Air 1st gen, and while its an old device it still has a very capable processor. Buttons can be a bit annoying and i havent spend a great deal of time analysing the controller responsiveness it may appear on first glance that it may need some improvement . The soundtrack is different, why not have both. An update hasnt been released for a year now and that is indicative to me that they dont care about any issues. Take our money and run, dissapointing. Visually, very pixelled. To be honest, id rather custom play screen area and a reserved area for the buttons. As some other reviewers have cited, the porting lacked visual improvements so there is that. I dont remember Alucard being so pixelled on my PS3 store release. Seriously, put some more effort into the app. Dont be that dev that does updates very rarely if at all. Its like my Swann homesafe camera app, they release different app names so they dont have to put the effort in and any negative review doesnt carry over to their new app.

Left side statue is stuck. Can’t progress in the game! Left side statue in clock tower is stuck

Would love to play this unplayable port :/. When ever i connect my playstation controller is just freezes and have to disconnect it in order to play.... frustrating

Great game!. I have loved the castkevania series ever since i was younger. This port of sotn is amazing. -Graphics- 10/10 The same as old one -Gameplay- 7/10 odd control scheme but still fun -sounds- 8/10 same as the old one Overall -25/30- (A-)

Great game. Not only was i able to get to richter but i was also able to get to Dracula in the inverted castle. Great game. Buy if you like the metroidvania style.

😡👎🏻. Très mauvais contrôle !! Very bad control !!

Great game, decent port but could use some help. This Castlevania has a great, gothic beauty of a castle to explore, with solid gameplay & even a bit of story. Alucard, the son of Dracula is always a cool guy to play. I love this game. The port is done fairly well, & that’s mostly what I’ll be talking about. I’m using an iphone7 btw. The Slowdown Glitch Once and a while, when loading a new area, the game just starts running slower than normal. I’ve tried restarting the app, clearing the apps on my phone, saving & loading ingame, & loading new areas, but nothing reliably solves this. I don’t know if it’s a widespread issue for other players. The Autosave It saves at every room/area you enter. This should mean that you could put the game down & not sweat losing all your progress, but sometimes if you leave it too long, it loses this autosave. So, really it feels like an autosave to make the game easier because you respawn right at the room entry, & this is already a very easy game when it comes to Castlevanias. You’ll also find that it saves for you just before you use an actual save point, so when you load the first thing you have to do is save it again to refill your hp. The Buttons Because you’ve got a button for each hand (sword & shield, dagger & shuriken, etc) & a big one for jump, & then a little one for a kind of dodge move, that doesn’t leave a ton of room. I’m guessing that’s why the attack buttons are so small. I had just finished playing Castlevania 2 emulated on a tablet, & I could resize my buttons & change the layout style, so having to get used to this was tricky. I’ve sunken several hours in & I still find myself miss pressing it. Oh, & I barely used the dodge when I had a controller, so having a hard to hit version of it is even less useful. The Spells The game has spells you can do by performing special move style button combos. Thankfully, they added a feature where now once you’ve done a spell, you can select it & recast it at the touch of a button. I love this, because it feels like you really have a variety of tactics at your disposal. In the ps1 version I thought the spells were neat, but could never really bother with them when I had swords to swing & a whole plethora of throwable weapons (see more below). However, spells that were especially tricky to pull off reliably before, Soul Steal, & the 4 Spirits one, are now at the touch of a button for me. These spells are so powerful, it breaks the game. If these two spells costed more mp that could solve this. The Inventory I remember the prev versions having pretty clunky inventory management. So now when I get a pile of one-use items, like healing food or throwable weapons, I’m not surprised to find that the process of equipping, using, equipping something else, is cumbersome. I think it’s a little better than before though, maybe because touch screen is faster to choose. One thing that’d make this better, is to have the inventory filters a set of buttons on that are constantly displayed while viewing inventory so you could just flip them off & on without a separate page. That & if the inventory also remembered your filter settings. The menu at the librarians shop is also confusing. Every other menu scrolls up & down by pressing buttons, but his scrolls by sliding to the edge of the menu & scrolling it, which is a little clunky, & I could easily picture a new player never discovering that & simply assuming that the librarian just sold a handful of cheap items & that’s it. To make the game harder I just never wear armor, except for when I’m flipping those gears in the clock tower puzzle, then it’s mirror armor all the way 😬

No problems. I’ve seen other reviews saying the left clock statue doesn’t open, but I’ve had no such problem. Just wait around there for a while, or to do something else. I personally haven’t found the controls all that clunky. I haven’t experienced any crashes. This is a translated port of the Japanese version, so the extra familiars are in. Overall, I’ve had a good time with the game. It’s old, but still holds up today. None of this is nostalgia because this is my first time playing.

Great classic buttons need work. Great game everyone needs to own. But man the buttons are far to small and not sensitive enough. You tap them and they only work when they want to. Off by even a hair and it does not work. So you get hit by everything. You have to be so precisely on the mark to make them work. Fix this and easy 5/5 game.

The nostalgia. Good memories back on ps1 days, was a good game back then up to now, only downside is it could have been hd! will give 5 stars if you gave us hd update!

About as responsive as a frozen waffle. Terrible port, bad programming etc, apparently Konami is also a flyby night company.

Amazing game. This was my first time beating SotN and it was amazing I got thought the whole game with out bugs or glitches and it was amazing! Easy 5/5

Best ios game ive ever played. This game is excellent and is by far my favourite game that ive played on ios Exploring the huge map is fanastic and generously rewarded as there are tons of new items to be obtained and collected The music is great and complements each area’s gorgeous designs very well My favourite part about this game is that every time i thought i completed the map, id find that there were whole hidden areas i still needed to explore Seeing as this is one of the games that defines the genre, this game is the best metroidvania that ive played

Controls. The controls are awful. Please fix this.

Half Baked iOS port that’s worth every penny. This review will be split into two main parts, the game itself, and the iOS port The Game Love the game, was one of the reasons I begged my mom for a PlayStation growing up. I’ve mastered the game and can 200.6 percent beat it blindfolded. The thing that’s bothers me about the game is that it really feels like someone ctrl+c and ctrl+v it to double it. It’s like they couldn’t be bothered to put together more content, or were time crunched and just did the bare minimum to extend the game by inverting the castle, throwing only a couple new music tracks in, and a few annoyances along the way and called it a day. Seriously, the inverted castle is a joke of an extension of the game, 4 connecting levels share the same music, the levels off them share one other music score and then a couple random boss tracks extras they scrapped together. In addition to that, the rerelease from the PSP port has significantly worse speeches, making Alucard sound like a pubescent Japanese boy with 0 anything. Things that needed to be improved, like use items and the map were just not done, and it’s all been carried over for each re-release since. I wish they would have take the time to add in the Saturn levels, and polished up the game. Regarding the iOS port Lazy, quick, little effort is what it seems, the menu system is subpar and not really optimized at all for the game. Here are a few examples where you can tell the game was lipsticked up 1. There is no picture to show that the wolf can swim, which you require to get 200.6, they just left the circle blank and forgot 2. Enemy names show up overtop the map, because it’s clearly an overlay with higher resolution text. So alucards health and mana with the same boarders shows underneath, but enemy name shows above, how about a pinch and zoom for the map? 3. The continue function doesn’t always work, especially if the app is forced closed, which may also screw up your save. The continue works to the entry point in the room, so if you go in a room and save. Then exit, then come back and continue, you’re not actually tracking that save. 4. No interpolation or any other layouts for the controls? It seems okay on 9:18.5 screens like the X and such, but on the 8 and lower, it’s covering half the screen and blocks your view. 5. There is no advantages of the touch screen used, like maybe in the teleporter room allow you to pick where you want to go. It doesn’t break the integrity of the game, but would be nice to show some optimization. You made optimization to one touch spells (really useful to do soul steal with a button) but seemed to just stop there. Why not help people out with gravity boot gestures, or secondary heart weapon buttons? 6. Clock room seem broken in the inverted castle, you can fortunately go around without too much trouble Lastly for the record if anyone gets this far in the review 938 rooms before reaching richter to confirm you’ve completed You can get the ring of varda on the first play through in the coliseum. On a play through where I got all the achievements and grinded two ring of vardas from the coliseum, crissigrem, marsil, and fireshield, game time was 9hrs Hope everyone picks this game up, for the first time, or for another time, 3 dollars is coffee change and it’s definitely worth it!!

Great classic! Just needs some bugs worked out. I was very surprised to see this game in the App Store. It’s a great game with plenty of leveling up and lengthy gameplay. The game is suddenly playing in slow motion, making it unplayable really. The controls could be better. Maybe instead of permanently placed directional arrows we could use the entire left half of the screen? The action buttons seem fine. Really glad this game is now playable on iOS. Will gladly change review once the updates take care of the slow motion issue. Well done!

Clock room doesn’t work. Left side of the statue in clock room does not move. There’s no sound of clock tick tock. So I’m stuck.

Great game but attack buttons could be bigger. I am personally really enjoying it! Currently at 199.0%. Attack buttons could be a little bigger. The left side of the giant clock also didn’t work for me the first time, no idea why. It worked after I started a new save and finally heard the clock ticks. A little tedious but just a suggestion to those facing the same problem!

No Cloud Sync. Great port, plays smoothly with a controller. Rating is because of lack of savegame sync between devices (I play on the go on my phone and on iPad at home). Please update with iCloud savegame sync. Ty!

Problem in the game over part. I would like to change the game buttons size if that’s possible. To simplify the gameplay. Another thing I would like to play castlevania dawn of sorrow and on . That would be nice to put another castlevania’s in IOS .

Button are unresponsive and awful. Please fix it

Clock Room doesn't work. Left side statue is stuck, can't progress in the story without reach the left side statue

Great game!. 200.6% here Buttons are a bit small and occasionally hard to hit the attack button during a jump, that being said once you get used to it they are fine. Didn’t have a single crash or tech issue. The clock room is not stuck :)

Nostalgia Required.... ...Because it’s the only way you’ll enjoy this game. Controls are terrible. Gameplay clunky. Don’t waste your money!

This game doesn't work on my ipadmini5. I am very happy to this game on app store, but it can't work on my iPad, it's always been nice to play in bigger screen. Please fix this problem.

A great classic in our hands!. Just needs a few minor improvements like aspect ratio and maybe screen smoothing. As for the controls I’m not bothered because you can pair a PS4/Bluetooth controller and play on a big screen!

Fix controls!. Game amazing expect they game touch controls is way to small and I got small fingers let us resize the controls.

Excellent port!. Really impressed with the quality of the port. The controller support is perfect, it just feels like I’m playing on a console. The only question I have is how to access the new spell button while playing with a controller. Being able to select a spell to have at the touch of a button is a MASSIVE improvement, instead of flailing around trying to get a spell off at a critical time, or just not using most of them because of their unreliable/impossible nature. I can’t find any documentation for this game online, but I can hardly believe that such a perfect port would omit the best new feature. Other than that, this is a 10/10 game!

Please patch. There’s no reason for such lazy controls. They’re poorly made and unforgiving, I can’t believe this is the level of quality from Konami. I’ll be emulating all of their games from now on because they obviously can’t put out a competent mobile UI. The game itself is worth AAA price, I should have been paid for playtesting this low-effort of a port.

Absolute classic that needs to be experienced. This is basically the same masterpiece found on the original PlayStation but on iOS with loads of QOL improvements. The best part? You can play it with a PS4 controller.

Good game. Thank for fixing the music and sfx!

Great game. Love the Port! However there appears to be a glitch in the clock room preventing us to move forward (the left statue will not budge, hence preventing me to proceed through the story); my game timer is not maxed out so it is definitely a gameplay mechanic glitch!

Just playing for the first time ever.. I’m sure there is a fantastic game here somewhere, but the controls are so clunky, playing the game is harder than trying to flip bacon with soggy bread

Map button does’t work on ps4 controller. I’d like to give 5 stars. But just because of that I cant.

Oui po top. Pas top mais quand meme bon tres difficile a ne pas acheter si vous n’avez pas de base ou jouer a un jeu similaire ne l’acheter pas

Great but.... Fantastic game. Button layout makes it unplayable though.

A masterpiece!. This is one of the best ports to iOS ever. I enjoyed it more than on PS1. The menu system and spells systems are huge upgrade. Ignore the reviews that say something is wrong, or glitched, or that the touch screen controls make it too hard. They are all wrong. I just completed the game 196.1% and plan on pushing it all the way to 200.6%. Worth every penny.

Amazing port for this masterpiece, put it on PC too!. One of the best ways to play SOTN, I’d say this is tied with the Requiem version on PS4/PS5 but below the Xbox 360 Arcade version. I would love to see this port get put on Steam, the new menus look slick and clean but as a purist perhaps having the option to use the classic menus would be nice. Overall if you play with a gamepad you’re getting an incredible experience!

Lost my save. Great game but lost my save mid way through inverted castle cuz the game was auto deleted by apple

Controls are lacking. Swell graphics, nice music but the often irresponsive controls will have you pulling your hair out.

Great port.. Gear port, it is basically the full Saturn game only release in Japan. I know this because it is the only version that has Maria as playable character. ( to unlock Maria, beat the game (inverted castle) with Alucard and start a new game named MARIA. Enjoy.) Please port all other Castlevania games (full version) just like this one.

Not working on iOS 13.3.1. Please fix it

Good port, sound issues. The port itself is very great. The controls are fine as long as you have a controller compatible with the game. the only issue I am having with this port is the sound: everything si a little slower and lower pitch than it should be (the music, the sound effecs and the voices too). I hope it’s gonna be fixed soon :)

Game doesn’t work. On iPhone X the controls don’t work. A waste of time.

Controls are terrible. The game is great, but it requires a lot of precise timing, which is thrown off by touch controls. Needs bigger buttons.

Left statue. Bugged

Spells?. I have no idea how to use spells in this game. I'm at the mirror Alucard boss btw

Need help. Can’t do a Jump and mist transformation to pass through the gate to get the bat transformation relic.

Wake up Koonami. We need this on the Switch and while your at it port the other Igavania games from the DS to the switch. We need more Igavania!!!

What are you thinking with these controls??. Pretty self explanatory. Why would you ever make these buttons so small and close together? Who do you think is playing this game? The inability to consecutively activate a button leads to 80 percent of the damage you’re gonna take in this emulation. MAKE THEM BIGGER. SPACE THEM OUT. BE INTUITIVE.

Please add controller button help/instructions.. I have no idea how to do anything other than basic movements with my dual shock 4. If you added a controller screen that would really help. I don’t know how to shapeshift, throw axes or anything else. This makes the game really frustrating.

Long time favorite. This game, when it was released for PlayStation was and still is my all time favorite. I’m so glad I can take it anywhere with me now. The graphics are all the same and so is the score from what I have heard so far but I haven’t made it past the first boss. The voice actors and dialogue are not the same, which is honestly my only complaint, and it’s really not so big of a deal. The controls are a little hard to get used to but once you get used to them it’s not so bad. Still working on getting a controller connected to make it a little easier to play.

Audio Problems. This could be a five star review, but with the audio slowdown issues on Bluetooth as well as the audio popping, I just can’t rate this well. It really ruins what would be a great mobile gaming experience. It plays OK with the touch controls but really shines with a controller (PS4, XB1, Razer Kishi all work well). As for the audio, under normal play with audio over Bluetooth, the sounds is about a half step too slow - and I don’t mean lag (sound effects are appropriate in tone and delivery). The songs are literally slowed down and can become really slow if anything interrupts the audio. I’m on an iPhone 11 Pro, fully updated. This kind of issue is ridiculous.

Great game - few issues with controls. Controls are a bit rigid but once you get the double jump ability it gets a lot easier. For some reason I struggled to jump and swing my weapon most of the time. The layout of the controls is just weird and very unforgiving....but they make up for it with one button spells. So you don’t have to dance around for 5 minutes trying to do a soul steal in this game. Just push one button and done. It’s not impossible but you will likely die a few times just because you pressed a button and it just didn’t work. Over still well worth 3 bucks.

Can’t wait to play once fixed. Incredibly excited to play this on mobile, it’s one if my favorite games ever. This version is difficult because not only are the on-screen controls oversized, they’re barely responsive. They take up half the screen but I have to hit them dead center to make them respond. Really hoping they can fix these issues because I’d play this for hours then

Good game, no sound. I played this game years ago so it was really cool to see its on here now and for cheap so I could finally replay it after all this time, and it’s just as annoying and difficult as I remember (this is good). It feels the same, plays the same. Cutscenes look exactly the same lol. Uh no sound. Would really love if the sound worked. I think it’d be an awesome feature to add the sound. I miss the sound. Yknow the puzzle where you need to hear the sound? Would love to do that one.

Wonderful, my only problem is the touch controls. This is a great game, but my only problem is the touch controls. It makes the game pretty difficult to maneuver especially since I have huge thumbs. For example, the gravity boots require you to press down, up+jump fast in order for you to do a super jump. With the touch controls as it is, this makes the gravity boots virtually worthless. Is there any way to fix the controls or have the special actions like the gravity boots be assigned a special button like the others please? Thank you!

Need help quick. So my review of this has changed. I remember when this came out for pap I was enteric however this port needs help. In the clock tower the movement are delayed when you tell your character to jump resulting in massive number of deaths. On top of that the “most” ability doesn’t stay on when trying to move over it stops working. On a controller it doesn’t work at all. When walking around it randomally feeezes and also shuts down from time to time. I have reached out to Konami several times and have been responded with there’s nothing they can do. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix these issues?

Horrible Controls. Great game, and even a great port. But absolutely no effort went into making the controls for it. They are simply horrible, and I’m playing on a decently large iPhone so it’s easier to hit the buttons, DO NOT buy if you’re playing on a small iPhone. Simple things like attacking while jumping are unnecessarily difficult. Touch screen controls have been done successfully time and time again, but these developers couldn’t be bothered to do it right this time. Which is such a shame, because as I stated both the game and the port are fantastic. They’re just both dragged down into the mud by the controls.

Lackluster port with horrible controls. This is using the script and voiceovers from the Dracula X Chronicles on PSP. While many can forgive this I simply cannot. When you have played and beat this game as many times as I have when something as simple as a different voice or line than what I am used to ruins the immersion. The controls, not gonna beat a dead horse but just get a Bluetooth controller if you don’t already have one. The addition to play as richter and Maria from the rip is nice, but the save system not working 100% of the time kinda ruins that too. With nothing but this disappointing , other than the extra characters, this is literally the same game you’ve played many times before and Konami is just using it as a cash grab and man oh man did I fall for it.

Fix the controls for F sake. Classic!! Love this game and have completed at least a dozen times, both on PS and PS4(remake). I never get bored of this game, graphics and the challenge of completing the other different weapons. This game easily is a 5 star on all other platforms. However, on iOS, the controls and crap, slow and annoying. Whoever designed the controls, seriously did you not test them afterwards. So hard to play because hitting the attack circle is hitting a toothpick into metal with a hammer. Is so frustrating and annoying that even a SOTN junkie like me, deleted the app in an hour. And that’s why I hate iOS games because there is no try before you buy. All they want is $$. If they cared, they would read the reviews about the controls and fix them already.

WHAT IS A MAN?!? Well not in this port. I have to admit something I never played symphony of the night before. I know real well what it is but I never got the chance to play it. The mobile version is based on the psp version which adds Maria as a playable character but removes one of the best features of the game. That’s right the voice acting from the original game that makes it oh so special is gone. Still if you are looking for a good port with a actual good control scheme and layout check this out. For 2.99 you will get a lot out of it.

Good stuff.. So this is one of my favorite games of all time. To be able to play it on my iphone/iPad was a must have. But..... the controls need some getting used to. I couldn’t enjoy the game like i did on the PS1. The button placement is beyond frustrating. All this from the immediate start of the game. I would imagine a Bluetooth controller may be a solution. But, I am not a fan of bringing bulky items around if it’s not needed. I feel like this version was much easier than the original. Still a great game and great gameplay.

I’m surprised.... ...That so many people here are complaining about this game. It’s one of my favorites. That people are complaining so much makes me think most of them had not played the original. This is an amazing port; I’m having no issue at all with the controls. Still one of the best games out there! If you loved it back in the day, I am certain you’ll love this version. For $2.99 you’re getting one of the best and most memorable games out there...

Nostalgic Gem. This game still has a lot of soul. I recommend to anyone who loves Castlevania games. The controls take some time getting used to, but you can connect your console controller through bluetooth if you want. But to those who like the original PS1 version, note that this has the voice acting from the PSP port. Regardless, it runs great, sounds great and still gives me that feeling I get from playing this game. A solid 5/5!!

Amazing Game. I went into this expecting it to be rather poor, but it plays out excellently and very smooth. The controls are a bit difficult and definitely have a learning curve, but it’s not something that’ll prevent you from playing. I do suggest using an actual control to play the game since the experience will be a whole lot better. Overall my only complaint up to now would be the lack of control customization.

What is a man?. So happy that I can now play this game anytime anywhere. Game runs very smooth, hasn’t crashed once. Not usually a fan of touch controls for a game like this but once you get used to it it’s not bad. This is one of the greatest games of all time for only $3. You can’t beat that! Oh you can also play as Richter or Maria right from the start which is very cool. It doesn’t have the original cheesy dialogue but still is a great game. 10/10 would play again

Frequent hiccups, horrible controller UI. Game constantly stutters. Needs serious optimization. The controller UI is badly placed and designed. Too far out to sides that your thumbs can’t comfortably reach, and there’s no way to customize button positions. Check out capcom’s Street Fighter IV on mobile, the controllers have some of the most accurate and accommodating designs that allow precise inputs of complex commands. Your D-pad is practically next unusable when it comes to accurate inputs, let alone doing command moves. Overall I’m thrilled this game was finally moved to iOS like it should have been years ago. Please keep working on it and make the it perfect for its name.

Unexpected. This game is one of my favorite games in the Castlevania series. My only complaints are that the touch controls are not sensitive enough for an action heavy games such as SOTN, I’m sure there is a way to allow us to up the sensitivity within the options. The other thing is that on the iPhone the ration is a little small, it’s not painfully small but enough to strain some eyes on longer gameplay sessions. Otherwise I hope that Konami reads these reviews and acts on them accordingly. P.S. Port MGS: Twin Snakes to the consoles and possibly the app stores. Would like to see MGS series on my iPhone in the future, thanks!

Great, but no map with controller. This game is amazing, but the controls are difficult on a touch screen for a game that requires precise movements, so I opt to use my PS4 controller when playing. The problem with that, though, is that there is no button that brings up the map. So I’m basically lost while I’m playing with a controller. Also, while there is a map on the touch screen when you aren’t using a controller, it’s so small on my iPhone XR that I can barely see it, making it almost as difficult to find my way around as when I’m using the controller.

Awesome but... It’s awesome, I won’t lie. But I really hate the fact every time my device is hooked up to Bluetooth, there’s always something wrong like for example my controller. The game will completely slow itself down while im in the chapel or entrance with my controller, not even refreshing the game’s app will fix it. And with speaker (because let’s be real, the soundtrack is killer) the music and sfx sounds a bit off key, like it’s lower pitched. Idk if these are bugs or whatever but hey, it’s worth giving it a three because it’s not all the time I have the first issue (still sounds great lower pitched, but jfc it makes me jump in the boss battles 😹)

A Great Classic. This is one of my favorite games of all time and I don't know how many times I beat it on other gaming consoles but I keep coming back to it. Playing it on iOS can be a little hard to play it with touch screen buttons instead of physical buttons but that doesn't stop me from playing it all over again. The soundtrack on this game is amazing. I hope Konami bring more Castlevania games to iOS.

Long time SotN fan and So dissapointed. I will address the issue of the controls being awful in placement. But mostImportantly all of the voice tracks have been changed from the original game which completely ruined the charm of playing this older style game my husband and I and several friends quote the original lines often. To see that they not only change the dialogue but the voice actors makes the game completely unplayable for me I have no idea why they spent the time and effort to change the vocals when the entire charm of the game and the nostalgia of playing it is ruined by this drawl dialogue and even subpar voice acting considering this is supposed to be a “upgrade”

Great Nostalgia. Worth the price.. I have been playing this for several days now and love it. Just like the old SOTN I remember from PlayStation. I’ve seen multiple negative comments about the on screen controls. I play with the Backbone controller on my phone and haven’t had any issues. The only feature I would like to have seen is a cloud save. That way I can swap between my iPhone and my iPad. I downloaded it onto my iPad but didn’t want to start an entire new game.

Controls. The game is fine, although it’s pretty much a copy and paste. Could’ve at least upgraded it. The control placement and size is bad. So bad I’m tempted to buy a controller stand so I can use my controller to play. At least give us the option to control the size and placement of the buttons. Richter mode and Maria mode are pretty cool, especially since I couldn’t play as them. The only problem is Maria mode. The clock room in Marble Gallery is glitched, I can access the Nightmare area in the Underground but no boss fight so I’m stuck, and I have to beat Richter (super hard), even though all the videos I’ve seen show her not having Richter as a boss. Other than that, it’s a good port that’s cheap.

Touch controls are absolute garbage. Please update this game. it's been a year and you have a "new" castlevania title with WAY better touch controls than this game and controller support as well. you're still charging for this game yet there has zero updates for a year. y'all thought this was the best you could do as a port? or did you just slap crappy touch controls on this for a quick cash grab? cmon Konami, step it up. the controls make this game unbearable to play. i didn't mind the crappy UI for the menu/pause system but the controls make it impossible to play this. sorry, asking for a refund. this is disrespectful to Castlevania.

Almost perfect!. SOTN is one of my all time favorite games. Still over twenty years later and I’m still playing. The port runs great on my phone, though I think a couple tweaks to the button layout might be necessary. My preferred way to play is with a PS4 controller, but my only major gripe so far is that it doesn’t appear that the map is assigned to a button on it. Every other function works as expected, but to not have a way to pull up the map when using a PS4 controller is a real bummer. I mean... I know Dracula’s castle quite well after all these years, but it’s still hard to remember which corners I haven’t fully explored yet.

Good game. I have always loved this game and I'm happy to see it ported to mobile. However, as with any platform game port, the control overlay has never worked well. Granted they did a much better job at the control overlay then most other ports, it's still best played with a Bluetooth controller. The game itself is fantastic! One of the best if not the best in the Castlevania series. But only gave it 4 stars because of the control overlay. I would love to see it ported to the Apple TV, not just iPhone and iPad versions. Please, please, please make an Apple TV version!

(Almost) Perfect. I’d never gotten to play the original Symphony of the Night, but always wanted to try it. So seeing a port to mobile appear in the App Store for a tenth of the price, I immediately bought it. I’ve loved just about every second of it so far. My only complaint is that the attack buttons are very small, and I often find myself missing them. I’ve also encountered a bug where the sound is very deeply pitched when listening through Bluetooth headphones. Other than those 2 things, I think this could be called a vastly improved remake of the original.

Great game, but needs a little work. Controls are real pain. Needs a joy stock or some thing, not sure. Attacking while jumping is a lot a harder than it should be. I don’t know how they would fix that though. Maybe I just miss the old ps controls. Also, there is a bug in the clock room. If your game times out and you wait too long(over 3 hours) before you get the double jump, the statue no longer opens, effectively breaking the game.... the only way to fix it is to copy your save file and load that one instead, deleting the other. I had to do some deep digging on that one. I can’t imagine how many people have just given up because of that.

Clock Room bug. There is a bug that is not allowing the left side statue in the clock room to open up. I’m waiting for an even minute: example 1h 2m 00sec. The left statue in the clock tower doesn’t open. The problem is I can’t proceed to the coliseum without this bug being fixed, which means I have to start from scratch. Other than that the game is great, despite the controls being a little awkward due to a touch screen. If the bug is fixed this would be a 5/5 game. Read another review. Copying the file and playing the new file fixes the bug.

Excellent port of a great game. Symphony of the Night is an all-time classic, and this unexpected iOS port hits all of the right notes for me. Gameplay is as fluid as ever using a controller, and the new character and inventory screens are clean and easy to use. Performance is great as is to be expected for a title of this vintage on modern hardware. The only minor complaint I would make is that some of the old on-screen text can be a bit blurry, but such cases are few and trivial. Kudos to Konami for bringing SOTN to iOS and for keeping the price so surprisingly reasonable. I hope to see more of the Metroidvania entries on iOS in the future.

Great Value. Positives: - One of the best games ever made - 2.99 USD is a great value - Unlocked characters from the start - Saving at room entrance - iPad version too - MFi controller support Keep everything below in the context of everything above, and that I still gave it five stars. Negatives: - No cloud saves between iPad and iPhone - Death screen takes TOO LONG. Combine with save at room entrance, this may mean you had few hit points and die, 30 seconds of death screen, load, die again at the same spot in 3 seconds, then another 30 seconds of death screen. That was me, playing Maria, going down the staircase. Four times: ~12 seconds of play time, ~1 second of load time, ~120 seconds of “YOU HAVE DIED” - No Apple TV support - No Bestiary - No control customization, whether on-screen (too many missed taps!) or controller (the map is ONLY right control stick. Select does nothing)

Great port with subpar controls.. 4 stars because SOTN is a fantastic game regardless of platform. The game is based off the PSP port in Dracula X Chronicles so that includes the new voice acting. The touch controls aren’t very optimized for this kind of game so I do recommend you use a controller, but it’s nice that you can use the spells with a single button press instead of having to do the button sequence on a touch pad, though it does make Soul Steal even more overpowered. Overall, it’s not the definitive way to play SOTN, I’d recommend the PS4 version over this, but it’s a great alternative regardless if you don’t have one.

DO NOT BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS!!!. For $2.99 you can’t go wrong with this game it is honestly amazing for the price and all those people whose reviews are complaining about the screen controls, and that they can’t can connect the controller. Use a dual shock and you can play the game perfectly fine just like you’re playing a PlayStation2 again! Do not believe the lazy reviews of those who do not take a second and try to figure it out for themselves, and blame the game/makers for an imaginary problem. 6 out of 5 stars!

My favorite of all time. This game was my childhood!! I loved playing int with my dad back in the 90s. We had the full book to walk the other whole game! What a time. Excited to see it on the iPad. Crazy!! I’ve hooked up my favorite controller to this and play a little bit every night. Brings back memories but also is still such a good game. I remember some of it but I still get the chills around every corner of the game 11/10 would recommend.

My favorite game of all time. SotN was the first video game I ever played. It was in 1999 and I was 4. It’s also my favorite game of all time. I was upset that this port to mobile didn’t have the og voices. I understand things are going to be different between a ps1 game and a modern mobile game, however I’m not a fan of the new inventory system either. HOWEVER. All that said, I absolutely love how it plays. It’s amazing that I can take this game everywhere on my phone. I just hope they add the og voices. I’ve always hated the redub. Either way, I’m so happy this exists. And for 3 bucks? Get it. Right now. It’s SO worth it.

Great port but beware of a bug (workaround inside). This is a pretty good port. Kind of wish the graphics were updated but oh well. The dialogue (what little there is), has been retranslated and re-recorded. On one hand I appreciate the effort, but I do miss the original “what is a man...” cheeseball cutscene. GAME BUG WORKAROUND: The main clock room in the middle of the castle sometimes stops ticking, which will halt the player’s progress. (There is a passage that opens and closes based on the clock). The workaround is to copy your saved game to a new save file, then continue the game from the copy.

Notalgic Goodness. An epic gamr brought to our pockets once again! This ios port of the psp version is a welcome game on any apple device. Highly recommend a controller as control are a little clunky, perhaps a joystick for movement instead of buttons and an option to custom size and placement of the other controls would greatly increase play w/out controller. Also beware since the latest update some controllers may no longer function properly, map and trigger for transforming, rendering controller useless. Im sure the next update will squash some these. Rumor has it they might even add in content from sega saturn. So be sure tobgrab this game know your nostalgic sence of adventure will soon be fixed

Overall pretty good. Most mobile ports on their first release are pretty far from perfect, this one gets close. It would be nice to have the option for the original PS1 dialogue and voice acting. The existing Bluetooth Controller support is nice but it would be improved if there was a way of remapping buttons. It requires a bit of trial and error to figure out what certain buttons do. But again a solid initial release. I haven’t had any real issues with input lag or slow downs. Generally I’d say it plays faster and smoother than the PS1 version.

All You Retro Game Developers: This is How to Make a Game. I have been playing this game for a week straight. The best part is that all of the special codes, file names WORK! Yep you can get Alucard to keep all his stuff from the beginning and as an added bonus, you never see death, ever again! This is not the case in the original game, where you had to avoid the spot with death and youd lose your cool stuff. When you play as Richter it is pure arcade, no RPG elements at all. But he is so awesome to play cos he rips right through bosses like butter. Plus his primary attach helps him to fly a little. Maria is...well, just dont waste your time playing her. The replay ability is massive. The game is massive. Its like Metroid but with Vampires. The best part is how the special codes work even better than in the original game. This is a five star game, no question.

What is a Man? A Miserable Little Pile of Secrets!. Castlevania Symphony of the Night is my all time favorite video game, I grew up playing this over and over. I loved the gameplay, the music, the characters, the secrets, everything.. so why did I give it 4 stars and not 5? Because you rewrote some of the most iconic and memorable dialogue in gaming history. Whoever’s executive decision it was to change the dialogue and rewrite it, you were wrong and I have one thing to say to them “die monster, you don’t belong in this world”

I love you. Seeing as most remakes are pricey, the fact that this game isn’t $10+ is an absolute gift. The game is great and I appreciate you. The only thing I’d ask is the ability to customize the controls a bit. There’s nothing worse than climbing a tower then having your jump just kind of stop in the middle, falling all the way to the bottom, then getting murdered by those darn holy water things that I should have murdered, but didn’t. Otherwise, this is an awesome port. Thank you

Awesome!. I didn’t even know this existed on the phone until I decided to search! I loved this game when it released! Only have gotten to the first save spot and already see differences and some recommendations. 1. The voices are different especially Alucard’s. It’s like it’s a younger person. And he no longer says “what?” When his stuff is taken away. Was expecting it and didn’t happen! 2. There is now a narrator at the opening scroll. 3. Was expecting graphics to be a bit more polished. I like the original look but it’s not the same menus and being middle aged now, it’s hard to read such tiny print. 4. The map is tiny! This game relies heavily on getting 100% map completion. Can barely see a doorway! There is no zoom and would rectify a lot if you can zoom the map. Activating the map with the right thumb stick on the controller is super weird and very finicky to stop viewing it. I really hope the ending sone hasn’t been touch. It’s a great song! Time to delve into nostalgia with SOTN!

Fantastic. The recent update did fix the clock room bug to an sufficient extent. It still happens but I tested the amount of time before the bug occurs by doing every other optional area before visiting the clock room to ascend to the room above it. It still was working when I went to it much later and didn’t actually bug out till much later when it isn’t an issue. So almost all players should be able to avoid it ruining their game.

Great Game! Poor Controls. SOTN is an amazing game! I love Castlevania but since moving I don't have any consoles I can play the games on :(! I adore this game, it's been ported over fairly well in my opinion (I've only had minor issues with dialogue skipping in certain areas?) but I just cannot get over the controls. I understand that it must be difficult to port a game meant for controllers over to mobile but the controls are just painful. If you can get used to them I 100% recommend trying this game out! But if they'd be an issue the game might be more difficult than it should be :(

Great retro comeback!. I loved being able to FINALLY play this game, since most of them were before a time I could. The one I wish I could play the most is Portrait of Ruin. People say this game has problems with touch controls, I didn’t have those problems. I figured it out and had no trouble with getting through, external controllers aren’t needed if you don’t know what that means anyway. But Portrait of Ruin being available to play on as well would make me a happy customer. I’d love to see more Castlevania. Keep up the great work!

The controls give me anxiety.. How do you even screw up this hard. Was this tested? This game would not only be better but so much more fun if they changed the controls. The controls are just way too precise to make this game enjoyable for me. I have long skinny fingers and I am playing on the iPhone 11 Pro Max and STILL the button placement is too small and unadaptive. The precision during combat and/or aiming is just a nightmare making everything so much more stressful than it should. I have to put so much focus on the controls and no matter how much I’ve tried...it just doesn’t work out for me. I have to pay more attention to the controls than actually fighting or moving around with ease and that’s just not fun, dude. Fix this.

A superb classic title... needs just a bit more to be perfect. I love this game, as soon as I saw it for IOS I bought it, but then it hit me, this game is not meant to be played using a hands on touch screen control, so I bought my first cellphone compatible Bluetooth controller. Was I disappointed when I found out the game does not support this and can only be played touching the screen. I will not play this gem until this issue is updated. So... please, pretty please, make this improvement as soon as possible!!!!!

Awesome Port!. I remember playing this game on my PS1 while jamming out to Serpents of the Light by Deicide and Formulas Fatal to the Flesh by Morbid Angel so that nostalgic feeling makes it worth it for me. So I see a lot of comments about crashing issues and control issues. I played this game for quite a while this evening and zero problems or lag issues but I have connected my DualShock 4 to my iPad so maybe that makes a difference, also for those who use a DS4 like me to access the map press any direction on the right stick and press it again to turn off.

Music. My first problem is that when you get to the marble gallery and you expect to hear the marble gallery theme. It instead plays the outer wall theme. The biggest part of the game for me was the music and how it made every area of the game feel different. If it’s just going to play that same song through the entire castle, then I can’t play it. If anyone remembers the PlayStation version of the game. You could put the disc into a CD player and access all of the tracks. The track listing of the game is would made this game what it was. I’m afraid all of the music is not in the game and it’s stopping me from moving forward.
