Apollo: Immersive illumination App Description & Overview

What is apollo: immersive illumination app? *** Apollo operates on Portrait Mode photos (requires iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, X or NEWER). ***

Apollo is the FIRST application that enables you to add light sources to your **Portrait Mode** photos, after the photo was taken! Apollo reconstructs a 3D map of your photo which you can augment with new light sources in real time. Take your portrait mode photographs from awesome to unforgettable by selecting the color, intensity, distance of a light and illuminate your photos and selfies to your heart's content.

***
WARNING: Taking portrait mode photos requires iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, X or NEWER.
***

Apollo is the first app to use the depth data of your portrait mode photos to calculate photorealistic light and shadow. Using a proprietary processing algorithm running on your iPhone's graphics card, Apollo is able to render light sources on a portrait scene or selfie in real time.

Apollo allows professional photographers and amateurs alike to try things that are not possible in the physical world. You can shape scene lighting by adding or even removing light. Since lights are computationally rendered in the scene, it is possible to put a light source within the frame: say hello to invisible lamps!

The UI is optimised for use with one thumb, allowing you to always view the entire photo. One price, no in-app purchases and no subscriptions.

We hope that Apollo is part of the computational photography revolution. We are doing our best but your support is crucial. Send us your feedback, ideas or bug reports on our support email.

Show off your lighting chops on our social media outlets.

Revolutionary. For those who can understand and care about depth and lighting, this is amazing. It’s not Instagram... you have put a bit of time in... which will be worth it. Yes, use portrait mode. Be creative. Post edit in another app. The only issue I have is it seems to negate the death of field bokeh of the original.

Great & Unique app. This is a great and easy to use app. I had several photos of my grandkids and by manipulating the light around their face made a great picture even better. Thanks!

Excellent app with an intuitive UI. Blown away with my first render created using Apollo. A similar render I created a few months back by painstakingly transforming an images mood by manipulating light and saturation levels with an editing apps brush tool took hours to create. I just created a similar render from another pic from the same shoot, that has its look and feel, not to mention its overall quality, in 20mn!

Great app, but please people: know your phone!. First off, this is a phenomenal app. The creativity it unlocks on your dual-camera phone is nothing short of incredible. But folks, you gotta know what phone you have BEFORE you purchase this app! It states very clearly that it’s ONLY for the iPhone 7+, 8+ and X. If you don’t have one of those phones, it’s useless to you. So quit whining and learn to read BEFORE you purchase something!

Wortless - only works for PLUS phones with portrait mode. I was impressed by the video preview that I made the mistake of buying this app without reading the fine print that it ONLY works with portrait mode photos. I have iPhone 8 and it doesn’t allow to access my photos at all. It’s very deceiving because in the details it’s says “works for THIS phone.” I will consider changing my review when they update it to access all my photos, since I doubt that they will give me a refund ☹️

Painting with light the secret weapon. This is amazing that you can play with lightning after the pic is taken and make it so dramatic and create a style. I don’t need a big light kit. I just got an iPhone X and what can be created with the portrait pics is a game changer for social media.

Won’t access any photos. Thought this app would be kinda cool concept is good but it won’t access any photos so it’s absolutely useless complete waste of money I was asked to edit my review of this app so here it is this is a great concept but it can’t access any of my portrait mode photos that it has already filtered it wasn’t that it wouldn’t access my regular photos that I left a bad review I knew it would do that before hand I checked the app out first and read as much about it as I could so I already knew it would filter and only use portrait mode photos but every time I chose one to edit it says it can’t access I checked the setting to make sure it wasn’t on my end as well and I did give permission to the app to access my photos and it still can’t access my portrait mode photos that it displays when you open the app I can only access the sample photos provided with the app so once again until this problem is resolved this app is useless to me and was a waste of money and the issues are not do to user error

Easy. Looks complicated but after playing with it for a bit, it’s actually really easy to use

I only wish..... I really like this app... I use it more than I expected to. I only wish that you can use any photos in your library, not just “portrait mode” pictures. 🙁 But it’s still an awesome editing tool. ♥️

Pretty darn cool!. I gave this app a shot based on a whim. I randomly will play with photos I’ve taken with editing and decided to give this app a shot. It may be limited a little now but doesn’t mean it won’t be in the future. Biggest gripe for myself currently is not being able to control the direction of the lighting. Also noticed that the only portrait photos it allows me to edit are the ones taken on my new iPhone X. Ones I took on my iPhone 7 Plus.... I get an error message that it can’t open it. Get those two fixed. I’ll switch my rating to a 5!

Annoying Help Tips & Limited Photo Access. I persevered through the non stop help tips that take a great deal of effort to disable. You get the ability to mess with a handful of your photos which the app decides on. No idea how to get a new photo into it and if I turn the help tips back on I may smash my phone. The actually functioning of the app is fine but far from amazing. Needs UI help to be a joy rather than a burden to use.

The Airbrusher. Finally got to to work after upgrading to the iPhone 11 !! Thanks for helping me out awhile back but nothing worked but I deleted the app twice and followed what others have done and bingo !!! HAPPY CAMPER NOW !!!

Works well, just not in mono. The app is very well done and worth the buy. I only wished that it would work with mono. I take a lot of pictures in black and white, however if you open a mono portrait in the app it changes back to color.

Waste of money. For starters, this app is only as good as the portrait technology is, which as we all know, is not that great. All of the flaws that we see with jagged edges are simply enhanced, only to make a questionable image only worse. Beyond that basic, Apollo just isn’t all that great at what it’s supposed to do with lighting. E for effort, and something like this might end up being brilliant in the future, but for now, don’t waste your money or time.

Wonderful, but not what I expected.. I paid for this app expecting to be able to edit photos in the same fashion as Facetune relight. However, it only works with portrait photos, meaning only about 10 photos in my camera roll are compatible. The app works wonderfully on the photos it is compatible with, but I was very disappointed and feel that I ultimately that I wasted my money, since I can’t use the app to edit the photos I wanted to.

the possibilities are obvious and incredible. this app has blown be away. the depth api of portrait mode on my iphone X has been relatively wasted until now. moving a light source behind each depth point (and realizing how many there are!) in a portrait photo is so cool. essentially, i can do lighting effects in post by placing lights anywhere the depth api reads a depth object. (it’s easier to show than explain). so for future updates, here is my wishlist: •pause a project (need to be able to come back to something) •wider spread to cover a larger area (much larger) •separate colors from warm/cool white light (ala color philips hue bulbs) •blend close by depth objects (would make the halo effect require fewer light sources)

Amazing control over lighting. This app is the next step in what can be done with photo editing. I love how it works with the 3D mapping provided by the camera, to allow for both subtle and dramatic changes. In reality a very sophisticated tool, considering that we’re working on our phones. That being said, it seems there’s maybe a conflict: the UI/controls don’t allow for ease of use on a phone screen, making it somewhat tedious to make all the small incremental changes this app potentially allows. This app could soar, given the right UI. Think Lightroom and Snapseed (no, they don’t offer what your app does), and how well they function on small screens.

How can I have my money back?. It’s really disappointing. I expected a more professional editing and tools (something like Quickshot), but instead I got a few light dots that create some weird effects. I wish they had a “try before you buy“ version! My recommendation is to completely ignore that app.

Unique tool. Usually don’t review, but this unique tool deserves a chance to develop its niche. It is intended to take advantage of the latest Apple phones. Giving bad reviews because a product isn’t compatible with older platforms is wrong. On my iPhone X this software performs exactly as described. It will take time to learn how to use this in my workflow. Thanks

A little warning would have been nice. Looks like a good app, but I wouldn’t know because I can’t use it. I checked the apps compatibility section and it stated “compatible with iPhone and iPad.” It didn’t say that it must be iPhone 7plus or newer. So, I have to keep this app until I get a new phone. I have decided to update my review since a company rep emailed me whining about my first review and trying to make me out as unintelligent. I checked again and the App Store still says compatible with iPhone. You have to read through the fine details to discover it only works with certain iPhones. After buying iPhone X, i can now say with confidence that the app is extremely ok. You can do interesting things with the app, but your customer service skills need some help. Also, dont email me again unless to you are prepared to apologize.

Bad but potentially good. The tech is there. Too bad it doesn’t work on most of my photos. It also only recognizes 1/100th of my photos, even new ones I’ve just taken. It would be better if it had a camera helper to take and store compatible photos but it doesn’t. Will be trying to get a refund until problems are fixed

Lacks lighting direction and UI is awkward. The app has minimal usefulness as of version 1.0.1. 1) There is no way to control the direction when adding light to a photo. The light appears to always apply from above. Since there is depth data it should be possible to simulate light from above, below, behind, and front - as well as combinations. (The developer suggested using "depth" which misses the issue - it's not possible to direct the light from below or from the front.) 2) the sliders for adjusting each value - brightness, distance, etc. require multiple swipes to make anything more than a tiny change 3) the lighting is either to harsh or too subtle. It's difficult to get realistic results. BTW: It's unfortunate when app developers expect their users to learn and adapt to weak user interfaces.

I didn’t read the CAUTION 🤣. Read the Info before buying... I bought it thinking it would work on any photo.. I love the app... but I can’t select pictures from the Camera Roll... because it only works on PORTRAIT MODE... it doesn’t work on normal JPEGS

Fix the Annoying UI Tutorial. This is incredibly impressive and makes having portrait mode worth it. The obtrusive UI tutorial never goes away though. Fix that and this is a five star app.

Holy Cow!. Testing it out and finding it to be pretty darned amazing! Tutorial/walkthrough is excellent and I was able to create something great in minutes. Tons of options and flexibility.

Not clear that you must have 7 plus or better. They do say you need the 7 plus or better BUT, i got it from a review and didnt read the details since i had read the review. My issue is they don't check on download to make sure your phone is compatible. You want it? Sure we will take your money even if we know it won't work on your phone. My 1 star is for the lack of a compatibly check before the purchase not for the app itself

Cannot access photos taken with other apps. On my iPhone 7+ I prefer to shoot in Portrait mode using the Camera+ app instead of the Apple Camera app. Although they are Portrait photos and are filed in Photos on the phone, Apollo does not allow me to access those photos. I hope this can be changed, otherwise Apollo’s amazing ability is not useful to me.

It works now!. Hey, with newest update (2022) I can now pull up all my portrait photos taken with my iPhone and edit the lighting on my iPad. Excellent!

Nice but confusing. This app was really cool, it does some really cool effects with lighting, but there are some issues. 1- I wish there was a video tutorial that would help show all the neat things the app can do, even after getting the hang of the app, I’m still confused on what everything does. 2- I have the iPhone XS Max, but still, the app is glitchy, this app will freeze and crash when I’m at the photo selection screen. Other than these issues, I am really having fun with the app and the professional pictures that it creates.

Works great with certain types of photos.. Yes, you need the right phone model, but amazing results can be yours with portraits with a single point of interest, eyes for example. Love it.

Major MEH because.... Major meh because: It’s a fun tool, BUT simply doesn’t do a good job finding all the portrait photos in library. That is actually a deal breaker for me, a huge deal breaker. I’m also not entirely sure why the “portrait mode only” restriction. Anyway, so long only a fraction of my portrait shots show up in the Apollo library, I can’t, in good conscience recommend this app. Bummer, as there is definitely potential in it, the creators of this app just need to show their love for this app and care about their users

Great App! iPhone 8, 8+, and iPhone X, only because it requires the portrait mode.. A really amazing after-the-fact lighting tool. Just pretend that you’re in a studio, moving lights around your subject, adjusting beam spread, intensity, and color on each individual light. Even placing lights behind objects. Amazing.

Photo selection. I saw this app highlighted (pun?) on Apple. So I paid and downloaded it. Glad I found it! Originally I gave a lower rating, but I am revising my opinion of this app: now that I’ve figured out the mechanics, it’s pretty cool. With up to 20 light sources, in front for behind the subject, opens up a lot of options to highlight subtle aspects of a portrait taken photo. Once I’ve added new light sources and saved, I can move on to other apps for additional processing - if needed. Give it try. Read the App Store instruction- And be patient- it takes a few try’s to get the hang of the type of pic Apollo can process. Good luck!

Pulls from Portrait Mode. Turn off help to get rid of tips. App works well once you figure out how to adjust the lighting using the tools. This app can turn the lights on or off in your portrait-mode photo and everything in between, which will take some self-teaching and observations to figure out. Definitely worth the $1.99.

It is okay.. It’s a cool app and a good idea, but limited. Must be portrait mode, must be iOS 11, and must be the original photo, which unfortunately are very few of my photos. If I was given the choice, I probably wouldn’t buy it again. Cons outweigh the pros. However, I will continue to use with future unedited portrait mode photos.

Magnificent companion to iPhone 8 portrait mode.. My initial impression was, “why the hell can’t I get to my library” then I read the summary of the app again. It’s a companion app. I personally thought that the iPhone 8, portrait mode, was missing something... your app brilliantly creates perfection! Thanks for the hard work

Amazing. I wish I could attach photos to this review, but you’ll have to trust my opinion that this app was well worth the purchase. If people are having any problems, it’s probably an issue with their phone or a glitch. The app is working perfectly for me and it’s amazing.

Won’t load my images. Really impressed with the tech! But the on onboarding is rough. Spent allot of time trying to figure out why it wouldn’t find my photos. Force quitting the app seemed to help. Now I’m trying to figure out how to save with depthmap enabled so I can upload to facebook in 3D? Looking forward to future releases!

The most impressive photo app I’ve ever seen. De source of light move like if it was there, like a source of light in unreal engine but this is a photo!!!! What!!!!! Amazing. Hopefully one day apple will make you guys the app of the day and you will get some more attention

Amazing. This is what portrait mode should have been from the beginning. Adds incredible 3D lighting effects. Would love to see more preset filters to add lighting effects on the go.

BEWARE: YOUR PHONE MIGHT NOT BE COMPATIBLE WITH THIS APP. Oh, sure, NOW it says very clearly after I have purchased it that it is “not compatible with my device”. Where was this warning when I was clicking BUY? It seems a little dishonest, and I am very disappointed, I know it’s only $.99 but I want my money back. If you’re reading this review to determine whether you want to get Apollo for your iPhone, please be advised that it only works with phones that support portrait mode, which is only the latest phones. Determine if your phone is compatible first before making the purchase. I really wish I could use this.

Works Really Well. For the reviewers who aren't able to edit their existing portrait photos, I had the same issue. I found that any portrait photos I capture after I've downloaded the app work. It doesn't seem to recognize older portrait photos but works really well for new ones. I actually like how the Help Tips are defaulted to on until I get used to the functions. After a few times through it was easy to turn Help off. For the developer, it might be helpful if you can explain how to turn Help off right in the app. Like the info you have when the question mark it tapped.

Terrible.. Can’t access all of my photos, just 40 or so, instead of the 7,000+. Of the 40 available, not one is able to be opened by the app. The refund is on its way. Update 3: Received another tone deaf email from the developers begging me to change my review. So I downloaded the app once more and opened it up, granting permission to access my photos. Still can’t open any of my Portrait Mode pics. Thanks but no thanks, devs. I’ll take my money back now, thanks. Update 2: I’ve received another response from the developer. It seems to be rather tone deaf. They just keep reiterating that the app only works with photos taken in Portrait Mode. Here’s my reply to the developers... I know what Portrait Photos are. I know how to differentiate between them and other photos. I know where they’re stored in the Photos App. I know how your app works. Now read, very carefully - Your app DOES NOT open any Portrait Mode photo on my iPhone 7 Plus, nor will it open a photo taken in Portrait Mode on my wife’s iPhone 7 Plus. Until the app is updated, you shouldn’t ask me to update this review. Update: Received a canned response from the developer, but it completely misses the mark. Yes, I understand the app is only going to use photos taken in Portrait Mode. But there’s just the one glaring problem, dear developers: Your app won’t open any Portrait Mode photo! Refund please. Pronto.

Amazing. I was very impressed with my first tries. The only problem was the share button doesn’t work. It just closes the app without saving. The only way I could save my edits was to use the preview and do a screen print.

Don’t buy unless you have the right phone. It’s my own fault. I read a great article about this app and immediately bought it. Well, I foolishly didn’t read that it doesn’t work on an iPhone 8. I imagine this will be great if I ever get an iPhone capable of using it. Until then, I’ll never forget to read the fine print.

Very Limited. The effects are brilliant, however the App only allows 20 pictures from my library and nearly half of the 20 will not work due to IOS version when photos were taken. I currently use IOS 11.4 and a iPhone X phone. I can not see any other photos other than the 20 the App chose from my library. Making this app pretty much worthless.

An amazing tool. Really quick shadows and awesome lighting affects. Keep up the good work. What you pay for is what you get. This app doesn’t have in app purchases like 99.9% of the sellouts on the App Store. Please keep it that way indice. Ilu!

So far, good.. Using 7+......There are a few portraits I tried this on and am enjoying playing around. Can be a nice app to fix or add lighting to but am disappointed there are NO settings. Especially on how I chose to save/export the rendered photo. There is only ONE option, native to the app ”HEIC”...i never use that format so major points taken away for that! I require JPEG and TFF. It does save original dimensions tho so that's good at least.

Where’s my library?. Had to reinstall after it crashed. Offers limited access to photos, and even then they won’t all open. Provides no option to access library portraits. Extremely frustrating. The four pictures I got to work are quite stunning, however.

Pretty cool App. Had issues at first but now it’s fixed the app is detailed on instructions to make it easy to navigate through my photos turned out awesome the app runs smooth never crashes 👍

This app is amazing. This lets you add dramatic lighting in realistic ways to photos shot with the iPhone portrait mode. Entertaining, and groundbreaking. Highly recommended! Also, kudos to the developer for having such a great privacy policy! At this version, no data is collected. What a breath of fresh air!

Needs custom masks. Very cool working tech demo. Lighting a photo after taking it is very good use of portrait mode photos. But it badly needs the option to import custom masks.

Absolute rubbish. This does not work! Save your money. Out of all my photos none of them load. Hundreds in portrait mode but still none load. Complete con if you ask me!! 🤬

The shape of things to come. Sheds light on the future of computational photography. For the price, I would just get it and explore how to play with light sources post-shot. Like Portrait Mode in the built-in Camera app, the conditions have to be right for it to work well. If your picture has strong or blown highlights, they will remain in the processed output. Best to take an evenly-lit shot. Start with something flat, and add light to it with this app.

Super Style. Love it. Cool idea. Hey developers - anyway you can provide an option to retain the depth information in the exported image? That way I can perform additional depth editing in other apps after I re-light in Apollo. Thanks.

Wow! The future is here. If you want to see where photography is heading, look at this app. They’ve done something that hasn’t been done before outside of high-powered 3D architectural renders. Just snap a portrait mode photo and re-light it. Lots of scope to improve it (I’d love to be able to control the size/softness of a light source, and choose how shiny/Matt surfaces are), so it’s not going to replace any of my professional commercial photography YET. But it’s only version 1, and worth it purely as a jaw-dropping glimpse of the future. Commercial photographers will lose a lot of business to a future version of this app.

Ripped off. Apple showcased this on their AppStore, so I bought it. It just didn't mention that you need portrait mode photos to use it. That information should have been mentioned. Annoyed

Maybe this is not for me. I’ve tried to get this app to improve on the portrait photos I’ve taken but it kinda made my photo looking worse. I tried a few times to test each features but always ending up not liking the effects. I think this app is not intuitive to use and definitely cannot edit any photos quickly.

Very creative but will not work on iPhone 6. Although the App Store says this will work on my phone it does not because it needs depth information. That said the app looks to be one I will use often when I update to a new, duel camera iPhone.

Not for 5s - doesn’t work on my iPad Pro. Doesn’t work on my iPad Pro. My bad for not reading the ‘must have’ portion of the advert. Usually when I buy an app I read everything about the app first then check the ratings before pushing the purchase button. However, I got no further than the sample photos and what you could do with them before thinking, ‘that’s good enough for me!’ Suffice to say that even on my iPad Pro this app doesn’t work. That’s because all my photos have been taken on my iPhone 5s. Also, I use landscape a lot. Unless you have photos taken in portrait mode, not landscape mode, then it won’t work. So, make sure you have a new phone - needs to be at least a 7 or better. Take your photos in portrait mode. Then you’ll be good to go.

DO NOT BUY. This app is not worth 2.99. I bought it based on a news article review. I now suspect that was a paid article as this app is useless. I am not a notvice with no photography skills either- just do yourself a favour and do not buy this app. The developer has asked for more detailed feedback... The app makes photos dark, the light it shines on the subject is an unflattering colour and it generally ruins any photo not wanting a moody light.

Does not work on iPhone 7. When app is a featured app is says buy but you do not find out it only works on 7plus and later until you try to work out why there are no photos to use, iTunes you ripped me off Shame on you for advertising like this

No.point. I'm using an iphone x and can only open one photo out of 5000 photos, this app is useless.

useless app unless you have portrait mode photos. totally useless app unless you have latest ios and able to take portrait mode photos... a waste of a download!!! 😣😣😣

Wow. Really really really cool!!!! Definitely allows for some great effects on pictures taken in portrait mode. A few things I would like to see: 1) long pressing on a button should offer a description of what it does 2) let me make videos? Like I can set a light to move from point A to point B and set travel time, as well as transition from one setting to another (low brightness to high) and that generates a video. Or have multiple lights moving from foreground to background, for example. This would make for some very interesting shots

?????. Très louche ! Vous accédez a mes photos car j’ai accepté et votre application ne fait rien du tout .... ???????????

Hmmmmm. Every time I try to open a “portrait mode” picture it just shuts the app down !

很差 没法用. 它会自动筛选出来人像模式的照片,其他的照片根本不显示,非常浪费钱

Hmmm. Says, pull up any photo from camera roll... kinda misleading people, no you can’t, deceptive on your part, but whatever , waste of money this app..

Suggestion. I love this app what a beautiful combination of technologies. One wish i have is the ability to replace the background with a green screen or another picture. Basically to be able to use it to allow chromakey effects. Please please pretty please 🙏 🥰

Very cool and a good start. I love apps that can take advantage of the true depth camera. Being able to set a light source behind a subject to create a dark silhouette is extremely cool. Suggestions: - ability to duplicate an existing light source - would like to save working state of photo to pick up later or duplicate

I wish it would be activated for all photos.... I think this app is amazing. I was looking for this kind of app, but I'm a iPhone7 user, so I can edit only portrait photos that my friends sent me. I think this app is great for editing real camera photos as well, so please change it and get more users!! (I'm an international student anyway, so I'm sorry that my English skill is poor)

Be careful where you download this from. I downloaded this app off the feature description Which did not mention it was an app for exclusive portrait photos...specifically later iPhones post 7s Just lost 4 bucks

Lacking. You guys really should up front mention that this can only edit photos from iphone, I purchased this in the hopes of editing photos from my mirrorless camera. Now, it's just another wasted purchase.

Amazing but needs improvement. Please put a landscape mode and other modes I’m disappointed because I love to light photos cause I’m a graphic designer for advertising.

Marvelous. Wonderful creative utility for working with 3D images. I particularly like how I can relight a scene.

Genius!!. I. Love. This. App. It’s like the Stage Lighting feature in Portrait Mode on steroids. For an app that’s been out for a mere week (at the time I purchased it), INDICE has done a great job not only coming up with the idea of Apollo, but, also, making it work. There will be improvement updates I’m sure, but for a new app, it’s a pretty good start. I’ve seen many times when folks have purchased apps and they aren’t compatible with their devices and this will be no exception, I’m sure. Make sure you look at the compatibility list before you buy this app. Apollo requires the image to contain depth information, so photos taken in Portrait Mode on the iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, and X will work, plus photos taken in other camera apps that shoot depth information could work too. Halide and Focos do this. It would be nice to see, someday, camera integration in Apollo, but if that’s not in the interest of INDICE, that’s ok. The adjustments we can make in Apollo to the lighting of a depth image are amazing. With the distance slider you can even position a light behind a subject to mimic a hair light that you would find in a professional portrait. I encourage you, if you purchase Apollo, to play around with it and get to know what the adjustments do. The output files are the same resolution as the originals, but the file sizes are roughly 1/3 of the original size, so there is some compression, but everyone is looking to save space on their iPhone, right?

Can’t access my full photo library. When I open the app only limited photos are shown in app

VERY UNHAPPY. So I pay for this app. With my hard earned money. In the description, it mentions it helps re-light photos with a brief emphasis on 'portrait mode'. IT DOES NOT STATE IT WILL ONLY WORK ON PORTRAIT MODE PHOTOS! Guess what? I opened the app and it gave me access to 13 pictures. 13?? I see a 'where are my photos?' link. It led me to this. WHY IS THIS NOT FRONT AND CENTER? WANT MY MONEY BACK🤬🤬🤬 Q. I can’t see all my photos in the Gallery. Why don’t they show up? A. Our algorithm can only work when there is depth data in a photo. That is only possible in portrait mode photos. The photos in your gallery are filtered to show images reported to be portrait mode. Moreover, your photos must be taken on a dual camera on iOS11 or greater. If you can’t see anything, you probably don’t have any portrait mode photos. More information can be found here

Cool app - bad UI. What this app does is very very cool. The problem is the UI has some huge issues. Tool tips show every time that function is selected. There doesn’t seem to be a way to take a new photo to load into the app (and new photos taken with portrait mode don’t seem to show up for me). The UI is laggy as well. I ca. Understand that for dragging light pins around but the intensity sliders also don’t feel at all like an iOS app in their responsiveness. Hopefully the UI will be updated and improved because for me it’s a huge downside to an app that is doing very cool things!

not able to see all my pics. It can only see limited photo in my phone. Wasting my money...

Great App but. how exactly do you place a light source behind a subject?

Powerful, Well Designed. This app does exactly what it's supposed to do in an exceptional way. The design is well thought out and allows you do complete your editing tasks. I'd appreciate and iPad layout in the future though! There is a bug where if you've edited a photo in another app before opening it in this one, your edits will not be reflected in Apollo. Therefore, if you plan to edit a photo with multiple apps, Apollo will need to be first in your pipeline until the bug is fixed. I will edit this review once the bug has been fixed.

Failed to access photos and add effects. This app only let me select from 6 of my 5500 photos and then all edits just looped me through the tutorial, nothing actually worked. Biggest waste of $1.99

Lacks many basic UI very slow integration. App offers good tools however lacks many basic UI and is very slow in integration. Don’t know if this are technical issues or the app collects information on its server first before even displaying it to the user. Deleting it as, I am nit sure what else it is collecting? Beware !

Doesnt open the photo 90% of the time. It doesnt open the photo 90% of the time unless the photo has the proper depth. Out of the 50 photos i have in portrait mode only about 10 open. Not worth the effort

Useless Waste if Money. I had no photos that this app would, or could access. I feel like the usefulness of this app was misrepresented. Don’t waste your time or money. Very sad...

App has potential. I understand it only works for photos shot in portrait, but it still rejects 90% of them in the photo library that IT supposedly chose as potential photos, WITHOUT EXPLANATION. Since there is no support FAQ source I can locate, I have no idea why it’s rejecting them.

Apollo is a very flawed Application.. DO NOT BUY! I bought your app under the impression it was going to work. I have a 256gb iPhone X. From the marketing of their app to the coding of the app, you developers read this laughing but you’re app will go up, like a pile of tinder.

Buggy, unstable and annoying. Cannot select photos saved in my camera roll. Apollo app only show photos from place where i don't know. The new photos i took with portrait mode or original mode do not appear in Apollo app. I tried making a new library and moved my photos , not working. No option to choose a photo library. Now I am stuck in choosing photo that I don't want to use with Apollo. iPhone 7Plus, 11.3.1

Won’t accept 90% of my photos. Almost every photo I want to use it says “oops, Apollo can’t accept this photo”. It only lets me choose my portrait mode photos and then still rejects them. I guess it needs an upgrade to accept more. When it does accept one it’s great but this is a major flaw in the app.

Needs work.. Very cool idea. Developer has address some of the problems in earlier releases. Overall a very novel take on editing photos and tapping into the data gather by the iPhone’s dual camera. Further refinements are needed, but I believe this app has a lot of potential.

Amazing. This is amazing photo app. Please add ipad support. Thank you for this gread idea.

Not uploading portrait pics. Was cool at first but only let me use about 10pics even in portrait mode.

Won’t open pics. I would love it if this app opened my pics, but it doesn’t recognize anything except their test photos. Too bad. New iPhone 8+ too. 😒 Doesn’t work on pics from ANY mode, period. This INCLUDES portrait mode using the regular iOS camera.

I wish I could take all my photos in Portrait mode now.. Enough said really. I do wish I could take everything in Portrait mode without giving up the Live+HDR that I’m used to, and the RAW photos I take under some circumstances (mostly when using external attached lenses). Unfortunately iPhone can’t handle that much photo taking. Apollo is absolutely amazing. I got it because I saw it featured in the App Store and I thought it was neat and clever, and then one night a couple weeks later I actually started using it, just briefly with a Portrait photo I had taken a while back. Then I discovered it was absolutely Magical. Like, from my point of view as a developer, it’s amazing how well it works and what it does. I honestly didn’t realize iPhone captured that much data with the Portrait mode photos. So it makes iPhone seem more amazing too. From my point of view as an amateur photographer, I sincerely wish I could do Portrait mode photos for everything. I’d go so far as to say that this comes very close to making actual studio lighting setups obsolete. It is (in my opinion) that good. Of all the photography and image editing apps I’ve paid for, this is the most worth the money I spent on it. Just hope now that Apple can bump up iPhone’s processor to handle Portrait+HDR+Live Photos all at once. (Be nice if we could throw in RAW photos too, but I’m less concerned about that at this point.) I just literally feel like I need to take a Portrait photo and a Live Photo anytime I’m photographing something within Portrait range.

Works wonders. Just tried it on an iphone8+ portrait photo via an iPad Pro 2018!

Annoying Help Tips!. What a nightmare. Couldn’t figure out how to turn off the MASSIVE amount of forced help tips. Didn’t have a chance to need help because I couldn’t get to the main interface. I’ll wait until this updates before trying again.

Great idea - terrible app. Only allows you to edit a small fraction of pics from photo library. You have to go through dialogue boxes explaining how to use it EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Fantastic App. Intuitive interface. Capable of creating dramatic results.

Trash.. I have an iPhone 7 and thought this app would work on any photo. It doesn’t work on even 1 picture. Complete waste of time. I want my money back.

Great tool. Works exactly as advertised.

Very unique and works well. Everything works great except the tutorial resets every time you select a tool and it’s very bothersome.

Can’t access my Library. I downloaded this app. I gave the app permission to access my photos but my library won’t open.

Very neat app.. Not sure how often I’ll use it, but this app is very cool and uses the depth info in photos in a great way. Could be cool to have the ability to point the light.

Limited. The app is a great concept but, unfortunately very limiting. The only pics that can be used are those taken in "Portrait" mode on the default camera on the iPhone. I seldom use the default as I find Camera + and Pro Camera superior. I'm into iphoneography and post a host of pictures. Unfortunately, I won't be able to use this app.

Cool app. I enjoy using the app. It does very nice light and shadows effects.

An awesome portrait photo enhancing app. I was a little confused at first. As this app works on portrait photos, and Portrait photos only. Truly awesome!

Nice boost to your toolset!. Good app, allows you to add a unique atmosphere to your photos. Although, an option to create custom masks would be a nice addition to the app.

Great features, takes time to understand the UI. Hi, Is there a way to get rid of the help menu. Right now it comes up ever time you open a photograph.

Manual. Finally, someone included a respectable manual with their app. Much appreciated!

What a great concept!!!. I love it so far!!! The effects are amazing for portraits! Great job, keep up the good work and the updates!

Couldn’t process a single portrait photo. Doesn’t show all portrait photos, and not even one of the pics shown could be processed.. why’d you release an app like that? I’d expect bugs in any app, but charging for an app that can’t even process ONE portrait pic in my gallery is ridiculous

Look good but it doesn't work. Pay for it and download it but It only read a few pictures and there's no way to get to your photos any other way 👎🏼

Useless. I tried to contact thru customer support, I even copy and pasted the address but could not get thru as it say invalid email address. I misread that it works on my i8, but missed the i8 plus. Not that $.99 is much, but this is useless to me. Please refund my purchase.

Love it!. Works great. A much needed addition to my iPhone 8 Plus. I had a question for the developer and he/she answered within minutes. Highly recommend.

So far so bad. Won't open any photos from library, only can edit approx 8 total pictures of all on my phone. Waste of money!

It’s nice but. It would be nice to have the option to add lighting in addition to the lighting already in the photo and not always override it.

Outstanding Application. The application is absolutely amazing and all the negative reviews unfairly effecting the developer is a shame... Great job guys!!!

Not Quite Honest. Turns out that this app only works in portrait mode or very specific camera types. That should’ve been the first thing in their description. I want my money back.

Great app. Great app with a ton of potential to make some great photos Just two suggestions: An option to save a project so you can come back and make edits later without starting over An option with “remove background” to change the background color, instead of just being black

Help .... Is there any option to turn off the help prompts?

Don’t buy yet.. I bought this wanting to edit my photos and turns out you can’t access your photos. It just gives you 3 images to choose from to edit. Waste of money!

Doesn’t allow me to pen my photo library!!!. I open the app and only 4 pictures from my 1,200 Plus photo library are visible. Only one will allow me to open it in Apollo. The other 3 say it can’t open. Not understanding what is wrong. Please help!

DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. This is a Rip off. First of all you can't select any photo in your album. And second, for some reason the app won't download the pictures from my photo album. I want a REFUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hardworking developers. It’s great that this developers listen to feedbacks and proactive to their critics. No doubt they are unique and there’s a use for this app for me.

Hmmm. Why is it almost every picture I click on says Apollo can't process image? Would rate better but I can't even edit a photo! I'm using iPhone x latest iOS update

Love this but needs minor improvements.. I would really like to turn off the constant tutorial notifications. Maybe there is a way and I simply don’t see it.

Can’t Save. First, there are no instructions about how to save the photo after you have edited it with the app. When I searched on line, I found that you should hit the “share” button. That is supposed to bring up a menu so that you can save it, but it does not. It just exits the app. I tried over and over. Oh well.

Definitely cool. $1.99 though?. Tried out a few different photos and this app definitely has the tools to make some very interesting and neat effects for your pictures. Unless this is something you have some very niche need for, then I can’t see it really being worth two bucks. However. It’s just $1.99 Download it and play around.

Dont get this app. It only works with the pictures that you have taken with the portrait mode of your iphone. Thats it. Im a professional photographer and this apo could not load a single picture that i had taken with a nikon dslr from my gallery to this app. Its a scheme. At least i knew how to refund.

Fix the help tutorial !. The tutorial help feature is terrible remove it , and make user interface more flat.

Only seeing limited amount of my photos. Just downloaded this. Only seeing a handful of photos to edit. Most of them when selected tell me they cannot be edited by the app. I’d like to get help from the developer, but can’t see where to do that after looking around their support site. So far, a waste of $1.99.
