What I’d expect from Square Enix. I’m a huge Final Fantasy fan who enjoyed the franchise starting from the PlayStation era (from FFVII-FFXIII Trilogy). Never got to play the Valkyrie Profile series and had not even heard of it until a few years ago. Lenneth is a refreshing reminder of the good ole days of the Enix (SquareSoft at the time). The storyline is reminiscent of Square’s 90’s JRPG’s. Already on 2nd playthrough for the perfect ending (FAQ’s required it seems!). Loving the darker storyline side of Square revolving supernatural and mythical themes of afterlife, self-sacrifice and heroism (fallacy or not). Norse mythology OP. Interesting format of gameplay progression (Periods). Could’ve been inspiration for FFXIII-3’s “limited time” progression perhaps? Idk - it’s definitely unique. The Valkyries remind me a lot of Lightning in XIII as well (always the dutiful warrior turned rebel). A recurring character archetype in Enix games it seems to be. Some of the controls during the side scrolling is a bit clunky and frustrating. The Crystals needed to traverse into some areas can get frustrating, esp if you’re OCD about obtaining all dungeon treasures. The voice acting is too much tbh 😂. Dungeon Maps are annoying to navigate with (esp @ Lezard’s Tower when you need it most!) but it’s cool. Not really complaining though - it’s a fun game! Truly a rare gem that you won’t want to transfer to Odin!

Best I’ve seen from square. I’m really surprised this port turned out so well. Not a single issue and the menu interface is actually REALLY good and organized. Overall of course, VP is a very incredible game and so is the 2nd, especially for the challenge you get for it. A must get for people who haven’t played it. Also, the game feels smoother in some odd way than the other versions but I’m not sure why haha.

Stay away, terrible controls w/ no updates. Was so psyched to play this port, and on top of it a Square Enix sale was going on so I had to buy it! Unfortunately the controls are next to impossible making the game unplayable. I noticed so many reviews asking for the controls to be fixed, and this has been going on for over a year? Ridiculous. Hopefully one day Square will stand up and fix this broken port of Valkyrie Profile.

Doesn’t have controller support at all. I’ve tried playing this with my PS4 controller and nothing happens. This game needs a controller support update ASAP because it’s awful to play without one.

Yes!!!. I can’t believe this game is finally for my iPhone! Awesome game, played through it several times. Great story, graphics and characters.

Controls bad. Deleted after 30 minutes of not able to play using iPhone 7 Plus. The controls ruined it for me.

Fantastic! 🤩. Just like I remembered and more! They did almost a prefect port here- there are a few stages that hit you hard with mega lag- and the virtual joy pad is brutal on some occasions that call for precise executions- other then that the add on’s are sweet for an extra boost in gameplay

Game broken due to controls.. So far I’ve been loving this game; it has a nice story, plenty of gameplay, and plenty of items to collect. The main downside is the controls make some areas either impossible or at least frustrating. The d-pad needs a setting that locks it in place so you don’t move your character randomly because your thumb lifted for a brief moment. Also the last area with the fires of purgatory is pretty much impossible without controller support since as soon as you finish a battle it takes about 1-3 seconds before it lets you move making you run out of time no matter what you do. If they fixed that, then it would be a 5 star game. Not counting on it.

Make it multi touch!!!!. Why this game doesnt allow multi touch? How can we do effective combo without multi touch? Everything is perfect though. Hope you can enable it in future updates then will make this review 5 stars.

A game worth replaying. One of my all time favorite games. Choices matter. I like seeing the best outcomes for my soldiers.

At long last!!! Thank you Square Enix!. This is one of my all time favorite rpgs that didn’t get enough attention.i lost my psp years ago with my Valkyrie profile game and never got the chance to order because I didn’t want to buy a psp again. The graphics are just about what you expect. The soundtrack is still amazing as ever. The only downside I really see but is no problem to me is the controls. It’s not impossible to play and beat the game with it. Just I feel like a dpad would have been better than a virtual joystick and maybe mifi support. The menus are changed a little from the psp version but still manageable. Also to those who are concerned with the in app purchases. There is nothing like loot boxes in here. Those in app purchases are only if you want to make the game easier for your self and give you permanent double exp half cost on matrialzation and double damage. There buy once and receive and you definitely don’t need none of that if you just want to play the game normally. For the price it’s at and what you get I honk this a pretty well done iOS version of the game! I hope one day I can see Valkyrie profile Anatomia come to U.S. or a Valkyrie profile 3.

Best game ever. The only reason why I gave this company my money, is because I saw the trailer for elysium and that brought me here after 15 yrs. I didn’t even know this was a mobile game! Let’s hope with elysium they add lenneth as a combo with both games.

Will forever love this game and hoping for a remake. I’ve finished this game so many times I can’t even count. The story, characters, literally everything is just perfect. Played from my PSP a decade ago and now playing on my phone. I only wish there’s a remake soon

Surprise, but a welcome one. This brings back tons of memories! I grew up playing JRPGs, on Nintendo NES, Sega Genesis, Gameboy Advanced, Sony Playstation, PSP, you name it. This game is the BEST JRPG in my humble opinion, and it is under rated! I am in the middle of chapter 3 now. It is every bit the same as the PSP version!

Big time buyer’s remorse. This was my favorite game for the PS1 period so when I saw it in iOS there was no question, I had to buy it. I thought to myself the touch controls couldn’t be THAT bad and my sweet summer child they were WORSE than I could imagine. What passes for a D-Pad doesn’t work with any precision what so ever. The game is practically broken and unplayable. I am an idiot. I bought the game and the add-ons without hesitating because I loved the PS1 game so much. Now I regret doing that. Why can’t they just re-release the game on the PlayStation store or Steam with proper controller support? DO NOT BUY this touchscreen version of this game.

Needs a little fine tuning. First off let me start off saying that it’s a great port I love the game. Such a great classic. The only few bad things about that game is that it REALLY needs a D-pad. When playing side scrolling games you kinda need the pad, not the pad the pops up whenever you move the character and god forbid you’re trying to navigate through a dungeon and you keep going back and forth and back and forth. Also there are some items that you miss because you can’t navigate the jumps and the ice blocks because you can barely control the character, secondly there’s a bug in the game whenever you go to the overworld and go into a dungeon all of Lenneths skills becomes unequipped which is really annoying. Add the D-pad and fix the bug and you’ll get 5 stars outta me

Good memories. I actually grew up playing Valkyrie Profile alongside with Final Fantasy 7 for my Playstation but my memory of this game is not with me but I remember enjoying this game very much especially with 2 soundtracks in this game which were awesome to listen to I’m glad I got the chance to play this wonderful game again thank you for the memories Square Enix. Sincerely, Noah Lewis/Lewis H/ Lewis Himeko

Excellent!. I’m glad this game have a ios version, but pls add a option to choose japanese voice!

Support old style games. I have been sick for new mobile games: pay to win, endless ads, and the worst part is the whole game is not for fun, but luring you to in-game purchases. Therefore I am getting away from free games, and moving back to expensive old titles, whose is designed for fun at the very first place

Almost perfect. 5 stars if you guys add full screen support

Great but needs updated game pad added in. With the new game pad support from IOS I am hoping that Square Enix will update the game to allow more Game Pad support

Priceless masterpiece. This is one of the rpg of all time that didn’t get much attention, if you have not played this then you are missing out!

Not downloading. Just paid for app and on the home screen the app just says waiting and won’t download! devs please help!!! Fixed!

Seems to be better than expectedly.. Yes just by reading the info I didn’t read before. How cool is it to recruit humans to a celestial war in a square Enix game. Battle of the Valkyrie up against the forces of darkness. As Norse gods in mythology. Although, I prefer to recruit people to eternal life in The actual paradise in this life, heaven. Romans 10:13 New American Standard Bible (NASB) 13 for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” The name of the Lord is Jesus Christ, just a tad Bit of trust in his ability to save you from whatever corruption you’ve committed, we’ve all committed. Will be enough to Bring you to heaven. Ya don’t even gotta work for it. Praise him for he is God and he is good “Praise you Jesus, hallelujah”

Awesome port of an awesome game. Squeenix keeps surprising me with their mobile releases. First Romancing Saga 2 and now this? I’m extremely excited for whatever’s coming next! Anyway this is an amazing port that runs flawlessly, I haven’t encountered a single problem yet and I’ve logged 20+ hours. Controls are silky smooth and the fact that you can save anywhere really makes the difference on mobile. All in all a must-have if you’re even remotely interested (which you probably are since you read this review)

One of the best games of all time hampered by its port. Valkyrie Profile is one of the all time greatest RPGs. However, this port earns its single star due to making no concessions for being a mobile port. The opening of this game is over an hour long with no auto saves. You can skip the whole thing, but then you’re missing the excellent story. Square, please implement auto saves that start at each new story screen. No one has time to watch their phone for an hour and a half without being able to save. Speaking from experience, some of the later dungeons are also over an hour without a save point.

Amazing game - developer support when?. This game has been out for years, and it still doesn’t not have controller support. Utterly and completely embarrassing. Is it so hard for a mega corporation to keep their products they continue to sell, up to date?

My weapons automatically unequips. Game is great but the controls is beyond frustrating. You’ll spend at least 10 min just to climb a latter. Not to mention your equipment disappears out of no where

A Must Play for RPG fans. This game quickly quickly quickly became one of my favorites of all time. Wow this game is fun, and is very unique in its concept. I am an enormous JRPG player, and I would’ve never discovered this game if not for this iOS port. Now I am so hungry to play the second one, which I am praying will also gain its iOS port. This is one of the JRPG must-haves, much like Chrono Trigger and all things Final Fantasy. The only thing to watch out for is the difficult trick. The real ending to the game can only be obtained on hard difficulty, but don’t be intimidated, like I was, because it’s not actually any harder. I had to beat it on normal and then hard and I wasn’t even mad. I love this game. Thank you Apple for this port, and as always, thank you Square Enix for another classic RPG.

At long last....if you can tolerate the constant crashing. Fantastic port of one of my favorite vintage rpgs. However the repeated crashing nearly every dungeon is ridiculous. The original title only allowed for saving at save spots, thankfully you can save whenever but the game crashes so frequently on a game that’s pretty unforgiving on jumps and certain bosses, and confusing maps like lezards tower, having it crash multiple times after a 15 min delay to finally fight Loki and twice before when I was finally beating bloodbane is beyond frustrating. And please add an update where you can skip things like the storyline and movies leading up to fight Loki. Don’t want to spend an hour of my life rewatching this just for the game to crash again. Square could have done a much better job of debugging this one, hopefully in an update.

Review for original. Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is my all time favorite game. I haven’t played this version yet but if it captures even a bit of it, it’s worth the price for any jrpg fan.

Oh my GOD. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw this, this has been my favorite game of all time since original release. I’m so profoundly glad that I can have it on my tablet.

Great game!. Now don’t get me wrong, this is an amazing game and an amazing port that was well done and I appreciate you giving me the chance to replay some of my favorite older games. Now the reason I gave it 4 stars has nothing to do with the game itself. The reason is because after all these games you’ve ported over to mobile, you have yet to port The Legend of Dragoon. How you have not ported this game and taken my money is astounding and I cannot give any of your games a 5 star rating until you do.

Language choice please. I’m really happy that Valkyrie Profile came out on iOS. Only problem is that the voice is only in English. I wish we had choice to choose Japanese or English voice.

Love game/no controller support. This is literally one of my favorite games of all time, but the lack of controller support for the touch version has made it one of the most frustrating games of all time. Wondering what partial support for game controllers means, have an iOS compatible controller that does nothing in this game. I am hoping they update it to where controllers work because this game deserves five stars. Update: 2 stars down to 1 after communication with Square Enix.

Incredible and original. Tri ace made 2 of my favorite rpgs ever, this and star ocean 2. The story, characters and the gameplay are all phenomenal here and it all translates well to the touchscreen. The vibe of this game is unique and should be experienced by every rpg fan. Can’t recommend enough, just buy it.

Great for all. Great for fans and new comers. Couldn’t believe how good it looked for a 20 year old game. Thank you square.

I always wanted to play this. Was excited to finally play the game, have tried for years to emulate but never could find a good copy. The game just hasnt aged well I guess and comes from a different era. Voice acting is awful. Music is pretty forgettable but fine. Graphics are dated BUT do not look bad by any means and are still pretty good. Gameplay is where the game fell apart for me, and maybe it was just the intro dungeon boring me to death, but it seems to be pointless and mashy. Each fight is easily beaten through Auto battle and takes simply FOREVER seeing the same attack and special animations over and over. This seems pretty par for the course of RPGs of this generation though. The thing that killed my interest though was the wonky control scheme paired with a bad virtual joystick. There are 2D platform and jump sections that feel terrible and the complete bonkers interaction on having to walk over to an item, find the correct sweet spot, crouch, and then hit the action button go pick it up was insanely obtuse. I'm going to take a break and come back to the game in a few days but this is possibly something best left to those who played it originally (or on PSP) and have fond memories that can wipe away the clunky controls. It might not be for me.

Just as amazing as before!!!. Square Enix one small thing can you do a update for the game pads on iPad have full functioning on menus etc. like your other games that would be great other than that VP is perfect thank you square enix😊

Greatest RPG of all time.. Valkyrie Profile was a legendary game on the original PS1. Even more legendary with a port to the PSP. VP became a collectors item and usually with a hefty price tag. Now, forever in the history books and available to the masses as one of the greatest RPGs of all time. I’m so happy to see that Square Enix is giving a piece of my childhood back. Valkyrie profile will forever have a place in my heart. ❤️

Great. The story play of the game is quite engaging, and heartfelt. The Valkyrie Lenneth herself is quite interesting. Sure at first seems plain, though the further you go, and if you do everything, it is revealed that there is something more to her in the past. A lot more to be precise. Each character is developed well. They’re all memorable in short. I’ve played many games dealing with Norse Mythology, so the course of the story was no surprise. That is where it was headed. Though what surprised me was Lenneth’s past. How certain characters have a direct impact on her character itself. I cannot say much otherwise I may spoil it. The battle system reminds me somewhat of star ocean. It quite easy to maneuver. The battles also have quite a few skills that can be used under auto command or reaction, etc. Now due to another comment, complaining about multi touch. It’s not a brain buster. Just tap the characters name after an attack to perform an additional attack, counter, etc. Over all my experience in the game was great. The story was very heartfelt. The progression was steady(if you do everything), and there are still a few holes in the story as usual, but nothing as important for the time being. If anything, I’d love for the game to have a new game+, I’d definitely replay it if that was added in.

Wonderful!. I’ve only recently heard of this game, when it came to the Japanese App Store. So, I instantly got it when it hit the US store. It’s beautifully done, wonderfully ported to touch controls, sounds great, and has a deep story to tell. I loved the very long intro to the story. Can’t wait to continue!

Epic. This game has always been an iconic masterpiece for me, I will never forget having to restart due to bad choices. I wish they remastered it with modern graphics.

Great Port for mobile fun. The release of this game Is welcomed since it almost seems as if it was made for mobile use. Played it originally on the PSP and have missed it, until now!

Good, but.... I played this game long ago on psp and it was great, but to make it a mobile game, more needs to be done. 1. You guys need to make controller more compatible to mobile touching screen. 2. Looking for a "combo repeater" that record the order to actions of characters and repeat in combats. This could be a better version of "auto battle".

Love it. Played the mess out of it on PSX, requesting the devs look into controller support for GameVice. The game would be a lot smoother especially on some of the later levels such as the clockwork castle. Other than that great game

Finally!. This game is extremely underrated. Love this game, so glad I can finally play it again.

Great Value. This game does offer controller support, I use my 8bitdo zero 2 Bluetooth keychain mini controller. So much fun to play during the day especially during downtime at work. I’m hesitant to bring my Nintendo switch to work to obvious that I’m playing games do mobile gaming with a compatible controller is great especially with my favorite Square Enix titles. Story is great so far and graphics are beautifully nostalgic, turn based battles are fast and unique while playing like a Metroid style side scroller give it a try well worth the price, thanks square enix

Best way to play VP in 2018. I was hesitant at first as the touch controls aren’t the best, but overall this is probably the best way to play Valkyrie Profile in 2018. The graphics are pixel perfect and the touch controls for the menu and battle system work well. There are also a lot of tutorials in the menu system to explain aspects of the game. My main problem is with the touch controls during the exploration and platforming section aren’t very sharp. Overall though, this doesn’t detract from the overall greatness of VP.

Console Release Pls. Game is well ported and runs smoothly. I truly am happy but like, console release when?

Not full screen on iPad.. And graphics are very pixelated. You could of added a smoothing option... I want my money back. Square enix does lazy ports.

I can’t pick up items. Anyone has this problem?

Technically unbeatable. Literally.. The game play with touch screen can be hard throughout the game, but is only annoying. Until you reach the final area of the game. There is a section in the final dungeon where you must obtain the flames of purgatory and quickly run to a different room before the flame goes out. After over a hundred attempts I’ve concluded that it is impossible to accomplish this with the touch screen controls. After a battle is concluded u cannot immediately start running with the touch screen controls, there is always a delay, and even if everything else is done perfectly, the two delays after each unavoidable battle is just long enough to make proceeding past this point impossible. And incredible oversight on the developers part on this one. They have released a defective product due to a lack of proper game testing to make sure the game is able to be beaten with the touch screen controls. Do not buy this game. You cannot complete it. A very disappointing waste of time too when you consider it’s beatable until you are very close to the end of the game. Just broken.

Please.... please... Japanese voice with English subs. I love the game and it was one of my childhood fav! But the English voices just aren’t as “engaging” as the Original voices in Japanese. Can Square Enix please, please, please, bring the option of the Japanese sounds into this awesome port? Thank you!!!

Dishonest. Very dishonest! $15.99 in the summary but the actual price is $21.99 and then there’s more money grabbing in-app. Crooks!

Amazing and... people should get informed before crying. Just like the good old days ! Upscaled resolution and menus reworked to work better on touch screens, a treat ! To the two negative reviews above, you should check up stuff before crying. 1. IAPs are only "cheat codes", they are pointless, just dont buy them, Square put these in to drive a bit more revenue in order for premium games to generate more, since unfortunately most mobile gamers are cheapskates. 2. 15.99$ is the US pricing, they just forgot to convert currency in the app description, dont rate the game lower for this,I mean come on, negativity like this is why we are stuck with millions of microtransaction-filled horrors instead of super ports like this...

No Japanese voice over.. Great port that runs well and the controls work perfectly. Story and music is excellent. Awesome JRPG. All additional purchases are for cheat codes essentially and therefore not needed, which is nice. However I’m extremely disappointed at the lack of a Japanese voice over option for this game.

Gamepad support?. Can we get gamepad support? Quite unplayable sometime. I know you might don’t care because you already got my money :)

Micro transactions... Was very excited for this game to come out, after paying $21.99 despite it stating in the summary it is $15.99 it also has an alarming amount of micro transactions. It’s a personal gripe, but I don’t agree with the practice of charging $20 for a port and then also attempting to penny pinch another $50 in micro transactions.

Fun game but terrible controls.. I'm a huge VP fan and was hoping to relive the game but the controls simply do not function properly. In a game where precise positioning and jumping is required, unresponsive controls is the worst thing that can happen. Save yourself a lot of frustration by not purchasing this app. Got through the game because I could thankfully save in-between jumps and retake them, but in the seraphic gate, that's not even possible.

Awesome Port!. First off to counter the negative reviews, the lowered price was in US currency, meaning they forgot to mention an updated currency for Canada, but regardless the price was lowered. Secondly, the in app purchases aren’t necessary to play the game, they’re simply there as cheat codes to make the game easier for players. The game can be 100% completed without purchasing the micro transactions. Anyway, the game was awesome to play and I played a solid 41 hours to complete the main storyline! I was always interested in Valkyrie Profile, and luckily this mobile port was made! I love the concept of battling in the game. So maybe Valkyrie Anatomia will come to NA? Or even just the collaboration in Final Fantasy Brave EXVIUS would be awesome. :b Great game and totally worth the purchase!

$25.29 I was charged on June 3rd.. What a ripe off you say the game cost $15.99 till June 5th. Yet I was charged $25.29 on June the 3rd 😡 What a rip off!

Love the game/Solved the controller issue. I’ve played this game dozens of times and it never gets old. This time is beautifully enhanced and easier without the need of checkpoints to save. The bad review is about the control, which is hard to use in some stages. I’ve bought a Steelseries Nimbus control and tested in every situation of the game and it didn’t work at all! Very frustrating because at AppStore it mentions that offers “partial support to game controllers”. Unless its solved, I will not change my review. —EDIT: I tested again and it worked when the game is open. First, forget the device; then discover and pair again with the game opened. So, it works with Nimbus controller.

This game is LEGEND !!!!!. very happy game

Graphics are terrible. Does not look like the trailer! Graphics look like they are from the mid 90s. Game control is really lacking. It’s a terrible disappointment. Not worth $18 imo.

Cheaply made. This is not a quality Square Enix game. From graphics to sound everything seems cheaply made. So disappointed.

Excellent Game!. Pretty much how I remember it... now how about Final Fantasy 8, Squeenix? Pretty please?

Awesome. Now release silmeria for iOS please :)))

Wonderful Game a So So Port. I’ll go with the positives first then the cons. Pro: Amazing classic game for new or older gamers that want that nostalgia of Square 90’s games of long past. Very deep story line, a lot of younger kids might not get into it for how slow it can be, but hang in there the story is definitely rich with all sorts of realism! Fighting mechanic is fast pace and a definite welcome and change from the norm. Great combo system at first you feel like you’re just tapping away but you’ll learn its all about finding the right loot to max out the most combo! Con: The porting on this.. yet again squares mobile department does not test their apps it feels before release. I think they make sure it runs somewhat okay but push the game a little and you’ll notice it’ll start to do some odd breaks. on iPad Pro 12.5in, half the time the the buttons will not respond on the game at all, even after resetting the game. iPhone X, well it feels much better on the phones, sadly not totally optimize for the X... feel like I bought an older app. Controls are clunky like a cheap MAME emulator you get from android roms. Why I’m rating this 3 stars, there is no reason for a company like square to not check their bugs over and over before releasing and charging 15 bucks for the game. I love the game but sadly the bugs take away the beautiful experience that this game is.

yess. always wanted to play this game but never was a ps user, worth it on mobile unless you want to spend a bunch of money on a psp and overpriced old copies.

Poor porting. No way to skip text and they roll insanely slow.

Please Chinese. Chinese please

Bad controls. Horrible controls. This should be a free app.

No Audio. The game is broken. There’s no audio. In addition, there’s no controller support. Do not buy it.

Needs controller compatibility. The game is amazing the medium not so much, please add controller compatibility

Great port: unplayable due to controls. This is and has been one of my favorite jrpgs of all time. I played it originally on the ps1 and then years later on the psp. This game is truly a gem with nothing else like it. So why one stars? The on screen dpad/analog/does-whatever-it-wants directional pad to move turns a fun nostalgic experience into a frustrating one as soon as the first dungeon. I know this was an Enix game originally but did no one tell SE that this game is 60% platformer? This game was released on ps1 and then psp both of which did not need analog control so why in the name of yevon is there a fake analog dpad our only option to move around? To me that just shows that this port wasn’t fully play tested. The last palace in the game is nearly unplayable. Please for the love of god add a D pad setting with adjustable sizes. You’d think for a (17.99) premium priced game with MACRO-TRANSACTIONS (which basically amount to paying for cheat codes lol) that this developer would be able to add such a small feature. Please. The game is not unplayable but you’ll essentially be fighting the controls in every single dungeon and town, falling off ledges into spikes, and having to constantly restart platforming sections. If you have the resources save yourself the trouble and play this one on the psp you’ll be a lot happier. (If SE fixes this small control issue I will delete and re write this review- Robbie Dagger out)

Needs controller support. It’s a good game, I’ve played it way back when it first came out on the PS1, but omg this needs MiFi support badly. It would instantly escalate this to 5 stars.

tri-ace’s Legendary Masterpiece Has Returned!. Valkyrie Profile. The name evokes nostalgia in many a gamer who played it. It went from a little known game to cult classic in a little under a decade. This review not only will praise the game, but reveal some tidbits you may not know. The dev studio tri-Ace has quite a history. The core of it is made up of former staffers of Wolf Team; if you don’t know the name, their resume of such old school cult hits as Valis: The Fantasm Soldier, Final Zone, Sol-Deace, Star Ocean, and Tales of Phantasia (yes, THAT Tales of Phantasia as in the long running Tales series!!) speaks entirely for itself. Now as far as the game goes, after its initial run in the PS1 era word of its outstanding quality spread and it became a sleeper hit of Disgaean proportions. I myself once encountered a used copy at GameStop selling for a whopping $149.99! Once PS1 game production ceased, its value on the secondary market ballooned...and it was only accessible to those willing to fork over absurd amounts of money. Then we got the PSP remake VP Lenneth. While it did change some things (new CGI movies in place of the excellent anime scenes and the loss of the OG VAs after they got famous on Pokémon), the core game itself didn’t change and was made accessible at an affordable price. Eventually, like with all consoles, even the venerable PSP, the little JRPG Engine that could, went the way of the dodo and Lenneth was lost to the gaming world once more....until NOW. Square Enix certainly knows Valkyrie Profile is a gold mine. The fandom for the game and it’s sister series Star Ocean (HINT HINT SQUENIX!!!) is well established and tri-Ace is one of their best dev teams. So after the JP only Valkyrie Anatomia didn’t make it to the overseas market, where most fans are, it seems Square Enix realized fans wanted a proper VP on iPhone and Android. And what better than the classic original? The gameplay is top notch as always. The game version we got is the PSP remaster so it was made for portable gaming. Even if the sprites look pixelated it is only part of the game’s charm. The combo based battle system returns as well, along with all the Great Magic, Ougi (Finishing Strikes) and Shingi (Divine Assaults) fans love. The music bears special mention. Motoi Sakuraba is in top form and this game has some gems. From the battle theme “Unfinished God Syndrome” to the boss tune “Confidence in the domination”, there are many classic earworms to rival even Final Fantasy. Now to the only sticking point some people have: the IAP. We get both the usual cheats labeled as boosters, and an instant unlock of the collection. I would recommend buying the collection items at least, as the multiple endings in the game may make it hard to get EVERYTHING without consulting a FAQ. And a hint folks: contrary to what they say on the tin, Hard Mode is actually the Mode you’re meant to play on! Overall this game is a perfect love letter to the fans. It may be $17 but compared to finding an OG copy on eBay, it’s a bargain! A full five out of five stars! In closing, Square Enix I’d advise you to port Star Ocean 1 and 2 next. Fans want those games big time and not giving overseas fans them on the PS4 or Vita only makes them hungry for more.

Die hards not try hards. Two things: #1: Controls are not bad, as the original game also had bad platforming. #2: Not for newbs or those used to modern gaming. This is classic gaming with no covenience or handholding. Surprisingly archaic. Id only rec for people who grew up on it.

Good game, terrible controls. Game would be awesome if the controls were not so bad. Certain levels are impossible using touch controls.

Not good on mobile. This is a 2d platformer with bad controls
