Such a good app. I love this app and I didn’t necessarily download it to learn Chinese I got it like 2 years ago because I saw an ad on Facebook and I loved the pictures but after having used it I’m really enjoying learning a language with a method that is designed to help visual learners. If I had to say anything that should be added it would be: -stroke order —when you click on the word and it brings you to the meaning and definition/usage I think that it should visually show you the characters being written out instead of them just being there. It would look very visually appealing and it would show us how to write it properly -speak —putting the option to pronounce the word back to the app in the definition/usage screen so we can hear it and if the user feels like it they can say it back and it’ll tell them if they said it right or not

Love it, but.... So I met this girl over the summer who had just moved here from China, and she barely spoke a word of English. We tried communicating using a translator, but things would get lost in translation, and not to mention the fact that it took so much time to type out what you wanted to say. I discovered Chineasy and was thrilled at how quickly I picked up those first few words. I loved the app execution and being a strong visual learner, this app taught me stuff way faster than Duolingo. But then I realized that I had to pay to continue using it, and my heart was broken. I’ve been using my allowance to pay for it since March, and I am learning Chinese quickly. However, I would love for the weekly fee to be just a tiny bit cheaper, like by a dollar, just so that I can use my allowance for other things. I just have a few suggestions: - upgrades! If we could buy cute outfits for our little character and set the theme, that would make it so much more enjoyable to play. - voice recognition! Sometimes I don’t know if I’m pronouncing something correctly or not, so maybe in the next update you could add a feature where you have to speak to the phone to pass the level. - playlists! I would love to be able to categorize my words so I could review them all at a time, or have it quiz me. That’s all for my suggestions, and thanks to you guys my friend and I can communicate easily now! ♥️♥️♥️

It really is Chineasy. I saw ShaoLan on a TED talk giving a speech about learning and teaching Chinese. I’ve often thought that learning Chinese Mandarin would be extremely difficult as an English speaker. Never in my mind would I have thought about learning a language the way she did. I was blown away by just how easy the language is to learn. Within days I was picking up words and understanding Chinese symbols. It really is just that easy and in a fun way too! In my mind, the most difficult language on the planet is now the easiest. The way you learn through playing it like a game with pictures, characters, spoken words, and puzzles is fun, entertaining, and absolutely brilliant! If you are thinking about learning Chinese this is the app for you. After the free trial you’ll most definitely buy the app to learn more! At 50 years old I never would have thought I’d be learning Chinese and having fun doing it too!

Nice graphics. Beautiful and fun simple app. Makes learning very easy. I like reading the descriptions of each character, having the little story helps me remember so much better. I wish there were more ways to review the already learned note cards. It would be nice if they could be shuffled into a random order and if there was a way to track the progress of each cards with tests. As of now, the app is very simple and I’m not sure if I will pay to continue using it. It’s also very annoying that the price is subscription instead of flat rate.

Great Concept, Lacking External Features, Needs Money at Level 9. I don’t have a lot of money to spend online and I am trying to learn Chineasy (中文) as easy as possible. When I tried this app it’s definitely a great concept, however many features are lacking such as the feature of pinyin or actually typing the word. I think when you get somewhere to level 9 they make you pay and there are many free sources that I have utilized instead. In conclusion if you are just trying to read Chinese then you should get it.

Love it, but it could be even better. The app is great and I downloaded it not knowing a single chinese word or character and now I know quite a few. One thing I would really love to have on the app though is a review quiz or something of that sort, so I could test over every character and word I’ve learned. I mean, if I’m being honest.. I’m going to forget the first ones I learned before long because I don’t have a way to review without it giving the answers to me. I think a review test every 10 lessons or so would improve the app a ton. But like I said, overall the app is 6 out of 5, amazing. I LOVE IT and I’m excited to see what’s ahead in the future improvements to the app!!!

Awesome Learning Tool!! 👍👍😀😀. This is the best learning tool/game in the world, but there is something about this game that I am not so happy about. The one thing is that you have to pay $2 a month, which is pretty good, right? But then like after you complete all the levels that have been added to that update, you just have just spent $2, and you have nothing to do after that. Overall this is the best learning tool in the world, and I will never stop using is ever in my whole entire life!! 😀👍👍😀. And I am learning so much Chinese with this learning tool/game. Good work, and never stop making updates with more levels to make people happy. 👍 Keep going!!

Great system. This is a great system for learning Chinese characters. They are organized in such a way that you see how the meanings of certain words in Chinese are logical from the composition of the two characters. I don’t like the short multiple choice quizzes at the end of each module. Only one or maybe two of the choices is relevant to that section so it’s not challenging and seems like a waste. However, the developer is smarter than me so maybe she knows something I don’t.

Completely neglects to teach the different tones. I learned Mandarin in college and wanted to see what this app had to offer. I don’t think that this would be a very good way to learn Chinese if you want to do a good job. The illustrations look nice but don’t do much else. In terms of learning, this is all straight memorization. There’s no explanation or intro for pinyin. Learning the tones is very important but there’s no mention of that. You see the word, hear the pronunciation, and can see the pinyin. But they don’t explain what the marks mean on the letters. There are some questions where you listen to an audio clip where they say a word or phrase and they ask you which is the correct pinyin. Sometimes they have two options with the same spelling and the only difference is in the tones. But that was never taught. If you remembered what the mark looked like and which letter it was on, you would guess correctly, but that’s just memorization, not true understanding.

Enjoyable. I enjoy the lessons very much. They are the perfect length for me to follow along little by little. I only would hope in the future they allow an option to also add our own custom notes for each word or character because sometimes i get other ideas in that moment of how to remember a character or word and i’d like to be able to archive them directly in the app. Kinda like the feature that kindle uses when reading books. But not a big deal as i’m improving every time more and more as I go through the lessons now that i’ve actually been more consistent than before.

Fun learning tool but it can’t teach reading. This app is great for learning individual Chinese symbols but it won’t teach you Chinese grammar. I had to sit through two years of Chinese class in college and another semester in Shanghai China on study abroad in order to build my fluency in Chinese. Where this app succeeds is in allowing you to learn how to identify Chinese characters. If you tap want to Chinese character you can also hear it pronounced. Unfortunately this app can’t really teach you the proper pronunciation of words nor can it teach you grammar because it does not allow you to use the words in Chinese sentences nor does it allow you to follow the placement of symbols in a complete sentence.

Love this app!! Highly recommend.. So FUN easy, colorful, and a logical progression of learning in such a fun enjoyable format for all ages. I use lots of different apps including other language apps, and this is the first review I've ever written. Chineasy makes it so fun and easy to learn. The fun colorful pictographs make it so easy to remember characters. I love this app and hope they develop a Chinese character writing app too that incorporates the pictographs. Gamification of language learning like this keeps me on track by making it fun to practice everyday. I can just play throughout the day and advance to the next step without it feeling like practice. I look forward to opening the app everyday to see the pictographs and improve my skills while learning and having fun! HIGHLY recommend ❤️🙂

Great App, Hope it Improves. This is a lovely app to jump in and start learning Chinese characters. It works especially great for me because I can understand spoken Mandarin but cannot read or write. My biggest hope is that the developers add a quiz function to the reviews. In the current iteration of the app, quizzes are only available at the end of each ‘unit’. It would be really nice to quiz myself on everything I’ve learned so far, especially if the program could identify and focus on words that I seem to struggle with.

Good app for beginners, focused primarily on reading. Good app to get started with learning Chinese characters. I would like to have the option to automatically hear the character I’m learning rather than having to press the picture myself while doing the lesson. I know the purpose is to read more words but i think this feature would straightforward for those who want to listen and speak. I think it also would be nice to have reference for which words presented are actually used for speaking and which are literary for students looking at this app to supplement their Chinese class or learning.

A fun way to learn. I started learning Mandarin to compete with my brother. He told me it was impossible to learn all the things he had in traditional classes and immersion programs, especially reading. I started working with Chineasy and started gaining vocab quickly. I am looking forward to shoking him with how much I have learned. Chineasy is super easy for visual learners; I love the writing tutorials, and breakdowns on characters. Understanding the why behind the characters helps them stick in my brain so much easier. The only thing I wish there was a way was to check my own tones. The app makes it way easier to distinguish tones but I would love to find a way to see if I am actually getting the right tone when I am speaking. Overall super great for all ages.

Helps so much! I have a suggestion, though. This has helped me learn a lot faster. Now I can recognize words, which is one step closer to reading sentences. I would like the option of reviewing cards and writing the words. I would also like to be able to make collections of cards that I find difficult, either because of how they look, or because their pronunciations are similar. For example, right now I am able to read, but if I am having trouble with a word that I remember the meaning of but not the pronunciation, I can’t write it to ask. This is a huge problem.

Amazing app. Definitely an app worth paying for! I love being able to practice drawing the characters and the pictures to help remember the words were so genius and helpful. I also love the podcasts. Everything about Chineasy is amazing I’m so impressed! Though I was a little upset that after only 8 lessons I had to purchase more lessons. Since I am only a child I do not own a credit card to pay for more lessons, but while I convince someone to purchase more lessons for me I can review the words I already learned so it is still very beneficial to me.

Great app!. Honestly I think this is such a great way of learning, I’ve been trying this app for just a few days and my experience is so awesome. If you are looking an app to teach you in a fun way this is it. All the drawings are so helpful when it comes to learning. This app makes sure that you understand what you are learning, if not you can repeat the lesson. Something that I relish about this app is that they teach you and then ask you questions. I feel like in some other apps they expect you to know what it is, yes yes they give pictures but still, they don’t take the time to explain what it is. I also like how they dig deeper into the meaning of the word, talking about its past and stuff, I’m learning about ancient China in school and it is kind of fun knowing why they used this symbol and stuff like that. I think this app should teach by units. Every 10 lessons do a review and teach you what you don’t understand, and if you’re good to go just move on into the next unit. I highly recommend this app and should totally give it a try.

Fun app with a surprise. I was really enjoying this app and was actually able to identify a few symbols on a menu and on a sign post after only playing a handful of times. The reason that I am giving it only three stars though is the sudden surprise to have to pay to continue. I only made it to level five before having to pay for the rest of the levels. I definitely understand that the developer has to make money from this but a little heads up would have been nice. Based on the app description it makes it seem like the premium part is for add free content or bonus content but that is not the case. You'll need to pay subscription fee to access most of the app. Another suggestion I would make is to allow the user to turn off the pronunciation part of the app. Personally, I'd like to just focus on memorizing the meaning of the characters without the verbal/listening component. Otherwise this is a great app.

A gift to the world 🌎 ❤️. Absolutely genius concept and gorgeous app execution! Had been anticipating Chineasy Cards’ release for many months. For someone like me, who is a strong visual learner, this app really helps to reinforce both simplified and traditional Chinese characters in a fun, artistic, and memorable way — and the etymology and cultural insights are a wonderful bonus to memorization. Conceptually, the app transforms a daunting and intimidating task into something that is very easy, enjoyable, and approachable. In fact, Chineasy Cards, combined with the daily podcast lessons, really makes for an outstanding learning experience with regards to pronunciation of the words learned and gaining a real appreciation for Chinese history and culture. Thank you for giving the world such an amazing gift! If I were to suggest some enhancements, then I would recommend giving the user the ability to scroll/swipe through all of the words learned in the Review section (like one does during the lesson) and increasing the overall text size of the etymology section, as the alternate characters are difficult to read. Also, as other reviewers have suggested, I’d love to see an enhanced quiz section to test us on all the words we’ve learned thus far. Being able to review and/or quiz ourselves by category (i.e. numbers, nature, animals, food, family, etc.) would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Best app for learning Chinese. This is by far the best app I’ve tried for learning Chinese- and believe me, I’ve tried many. (Duolingo, Drops, Memrise, HelloChinese, ChineseSkill, I’ve tried them all). This is the only app that is actually making learning Chinese fun and keeping me engaged. Not only that, it actually works. I’ve only had this app for a few days and I’ve already been making progress. The concept is unique and effective, and Bao is just adorable and great at keeping me motivated. There’s no ads and it doesn’t glitch, either. The only thing I’d suggest to make it even better would be to add an option to learn only Simplified Chinese or Traditional Chinese. Right now, it’s kinda mixed. I want to focus on Simplified Chinese but for some words the Traditional version is being taught, and it’s kind of annoying. That’s it, though. TL;DR: Great app that is both fun and effective. Be warned, it combines Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

The best way to help with Chinese vocabulary!. I love this app, I tell all my colleagues about it! I’m living in China at the moment and it’s helped me so much. I learn about the history of the characters and the symbolic meaning of this special language. One suggestion though - it would extremely helpful if the pinyin were on the “front” of the flash card with the English word and picture. Some of the time, I see a character and I know the English word but not the Chinese so I’m not about to speak it in Chinese. I can see the picture and character in my mind, but I just can’t remember the pinyin! Thank you!

This is AMAZING!!. I love this app so much, it really helps me understand the reasoning why the characters look the way they do, those little descriptions help a lot! The videos are also a very nice touch, they help you get more focused on the learning and give great cultural insight to the characters we learn. It’s so fun too, every day I get on this app I’m never bored! But I also have a few suggestions that I think would really improve the app: 1. Having levels dedicated to just pinyin, because I bet a lot of people would be confused when they heard “ren” as “Jen” it would be great if it could teach them how to make the sounds that don’t exist in English 2. A place where you can practice stroke order and/or write the characters you learn 3. A place where you can learn grammar because that is also an important part in learning a new language. Have a great day!

It’s really good, but I wish there was more.. The creativity and beauty in this app is absolutely amazing. I struggle to learn to write characters but this assists a lot. The mean reason I got this app is actually this, to learn to write easier. Would be nice if if there was some writing/strike feature that corrects us if our strokes are way too off. Also, I really wish that I could have used this app not only for leaning but also as dictionary. This however is not possible because I cannot search up words. It is something that I find very essential yet not there. Hopefully those things get implemented, 春节快乐!

Ni an wo ma. Great app. I was using a year ago but lost interest. My Mandarin interest came back so I signed up again. They made some really nice upgrades to the learning platform that challenges me more and helps with retention. I have a formal language course I follow but Chineasy is a perfect supplement to the formal course because I can use it on the go and am able to add to my vocabulary daily. During break times I go to the app to practice instead of wasting time surfing the web. I highly recommend

Some Suggestions. I find this app very useful as a person who can speak some Chinese but not read or write it, however, I have some suggestions. Maybe have a setting where you can choose whether the initial card is in the simplified or traditional word. I recently found out that the lessons switch between simplified and traditional, which can be confusing. I only found out that the default character was in traditional when I tapped the card and it said what the simplified character was. Some people may only want to learn simplified Chinese only and with the two writing styles mixed together in the lessons, it may become confusing later on. Maybe make a setting to choose to whether the user wants to see the simplified version or the traditional one? Another suggestion is to “favorite” certain words and lessons? As there are so many cards, it may become difficult to review problem words without sorting through all of the other words. Other than that, I think that this is an extremely beneficial app for learning new words in Chinese. If it wasn’t for the simplified/traditional Chinese issue, I would rate this app 5 stars.

Great!. I actually discovered the books at the library a year ago and wanted to buy them so badly, but passed the opportunity by and wasn’t able to find the name of the books again! I was so excited to find they have an app! Very fun, and the explanation makes learning the words easier! My Mandarin teacher always said that learning Mandarin was so much easier because the joining of words made more sense, and they do! It just is hard to learn if it isn’t your first language, but I truly believe learning 中文 helps learning 日本語 and 한글!

Chineasy is Superb!. Chineasy Cards is a fantastic app for learning to read Chinese characters, memorize their meanings and practice pronunciation. The brief explanations of word etymologies are spectacularly helpful for committing the meanings to long term memory. The comparisons of traditional and simplified characters where applicable is appreciated, as I can compare the traditional characters to the Hanja I’ve learned while studying Korean. I’ve completed the first 40 levels and plan continue to reviewing what I’ve learned as I eagerly await the release of addition levels.

Good but limited w/o premium. The first eight levels are very helpful. Unfortunately, the ninth and above require a premium plan (2 dollars a month or 20 a year). This isn’t overpriced or outrageous or anything, but it is very different from what I thought. Before downloading, I saw the In-App Purchase for premium and I thought that was for ad-free stuff or bonus content. Good news: there are no ads either way. Bad news: most levels are premium only. I understand the makers have to make money, but perhaps more open info (“get your first eight levels are free”) would be better. Another option is to have a small price for the app it’s self (maybe five dollars or more; the app is really useful) TLDR, it’s a good app, I just wasn’t expecting the sudden Pay-To-Continue, though it is inexpensive.

Close!!!. Like some other reviews, I wish there were some much needed feedback or review mechanisms. In the word list review, the tile interface makes it difficult to find what you’re looking for. It would be great if there were a way to group by level range or theme. I would also love to see some sort of pronunciation coaching or guide to explain some of the initials / finals that are challenging for westerners. When combined with other apps (I use Memrise, Pleco) and study guides (HSK etc.) Chineasy is a useful supplement. As a stand-alone tool, however, it is extremely limited. I have upgraded my subscription, but I hope to see a rapid deployment of feature sets that compliment the Chineasy learning method.

Great app! 🤩. I just started using this app and I’ve already learned so much! I’m a thirteen year old who wanted to learn Chinese and this app makes it really easy and simple for me to understand. I would 100% recommend this app to anyone who wants to learn Chinese and a small period of time. I also enjoy that if you forget something, you can just go back and learn that lesson. It’s also fun learning with pictures because it makes it easier to remember Chinese characters. It’s a really enjoyable app! I thought Chinese would be really hard and boring to learn, but this app makes it really easy and interesting. I’ve had this app for not too long and I already am in love with it! It has the easiest ways possible to learn Chinese character! I really love it and recommend to anyone who wants to learn Chinese easily! Wow, it’s amazing. It’s my first time writing a review! I only did it because I actually really like it and think it’s a great and outstanding app! 🤩🤩🤩

Inspires learning, fun and effective. This app has improved greatly since I previously tried it, and has now earned both my 5 star review and my paid subscription. The app is beautiful to look at and the associations it forms between the characters and objects that are familiar to the learner really helps with memory, along with spaced-repetition functionality. The app is now available natively for iPad and offers a lifetime subscription (huge thumbs up on both counts!) You can choose between simplified or traditional characters. Best of all, it’s FUN! This app is outstanding for learning Chinese characters!

Great app but needs a review test. Love the app. The insight into the characters and the pictures help make remembering the hanzi much easier. However, I wish there was an interactive review test that we could take that would quiz you on random characters, instead of having to review the words ourselves, or revisit lessons to take the tests. I believe having an overall test that quizzes you on random hanzi based on the lessons you’ve taken would def help in learning, reinforcing, and memorizing them. Would give five stars guaranteed if this was implemented.

A very beautiful and effective way to learn Chinese. I’ve tried many apps to learn Mandarin and this is my favorite one. For the first time I’m able to read the characters where I live and the Chinese I learned in the past is now making more sense to me. I’m constantly amazed how beautiful the pictures are. I purchased the lifetime subscription to this app and I think it’s the best investment I’ve made so far in my quest to speak and read Chinese. If I could give it a higher score I would. Thanks for making such a wonderful app!

Helpful. I married a Chinese woman and I’ve been trying to pick up a little bit of the language. My mother bought the book for me and I have downloaded the app and I found it easy to use and somewhat entertaining. The short explanations and the combinations of drawings really help lodge the characters into my memory. I haven’t gotten very far into it yet. My guess is it’s not going to make me fluent but it gives you a good basic understanding of the characters. A solid building block.

LOVE IT. My command of Chinese has grown by leaps and bounds since I’ve included Chineasy into my daily routine- I’ve only had the annual subscription for about a week and a half and I already know about three hundred characters. My wife also loves the app and we’re planning on buying the books to supplement what we’ve learned. The sole item on my wish list for this app includes a more robust quiz- even a basic “hey bud, you got these characters wrong” prompt after a quiz would go a long way toward helping someone decide what needs to be reviewed and practiced. To the dev: Thank you for this wonderful app.

Great for IPhone, bad for Apple Watch. The app is great on the iPhone. The animations and visuals are very pleasing. However, I bought this app so I can review while on the go with the Apple Watch. The words for the Apple Watch are the same 10-15 words for the last 2 weeks. It is also more likely that the same words are repeated every single day. I have been progressing pass level 20 on the phone and am still getting the same words on the Watch. I tried reinstalling the app on the watch and phone to no prevail. I have tried contacting Chineasy but have not gotten a response. Hopefully they can resolve this issue and my ratings will go up. I bought the annual subscription and regret not trying the monthly subscription first.

Decent but Disappointed. This app is good for learning vocabulary, but requires much more self study when it comes to actually learning the language and how to speak. I purchased the annual subscription two months ago, and have since learned there is a lifetime package where you can pay up front. I was hoping to be able to upgrade to this with a credit for what I’ve already paid, but I was told this is not possible. I’m very disappointed as I can’t get through all the lessons in a year whilst also having to teach myself everything other than just vocabulary. I will not be renewing my subscription when it expires as it doesn’t seem worth it to pay for another year when the lifetime package was available, and I do not want to pay full price for the package when I already spent $40 on the annual subscription two months ago. Overall, decent app for vocabulary but disappointing experience!

Early days, but I’m enjoying it!. I’m only on level four so far, but this app is really fun, cute, and informative. I love the incorporation of clever art work to help you remember it and the fun facts about how the characters developed are interesting. I laugh whenever Bao eats his bun at the end of a session. I’ve studied Japanese for 5 years, so I know the meanings most of the time at this level, but I got this to learn pronunciation and the images are helping me to not jump to Japanese pronunciation and start learning the Chinese version. Very nicely done and great artwork! Thank you.

Fun app!. I love the app as I knew a lot of pronunciations but never knew how to read anything in Mandarin. The only thing I would love to be able to change is the really loud noise when I answer a question correctly. I need the volume up a bit to hear the pronunciation correctly, but the beep is more than twice as loud! I have to practice at work with headphones because of the beep and through headphones it’s not just loud, it’s deafening. Other than that, best app I’ve used out of at least a dozen for teaching characters!!

A love letter to learning the Chinese language. Chineasy is a love letter to the Chinese language and their culture. They use a mix of flashcard-style learning that combines characters and meaning with cultural illustrations and historic context. My favorite part is all of the extra content they offer. For example, ShaoLan (seems to be their primary instructor) offers countless blog, video, and podcast pieces that help you learn the language even further through personal stories and experiences, told by her. This additional content helps you learn, practice, and appreciate the language even more. You can really feel the love they have poured into the app and they keep it updated with new content all the time. Thanks for creating this app, Chineasy, you really did create something unique, important, and wonderful.

Good, but would like to practice writing. Just picked up the app today, took some Chinese in school but haven’t used it for years. This app is great to get back into it! I am considering subscribing, and I don’t do that for many apps. However, It would be nice if we could swipe with our finger to practice writing the character over a template. Maybe being able to write it on a blank background to test our writing. It does not need to use OCR if that is too much of a challenge, as long as the symbol is shown after we try to confirm ourselves if we are right. Also agree with the other reviewer about switching between traditional and simplified. The simplified forms are usually in the small text box but there should be an option to switch as the main character. Many places use simplified over traditional in practice.

Great and fun way to learn Mandarin!. I am 13 years old and I am learning mandarin and I love it! Chineasy has to be the most educational and fun way to learn Chinese characters! The illustrations really help you to visualize the meaning and it makes the characters seem more familiar than foreign! It’s incredibly addicting and I always look forward to using it! There were a couple of things I think could be better but overall it is a great app! First off, it switches between traditional and simplified and it’s very confusing to read something in Chinese and to only understand some because it’s either in simplified or traditional. Also I think the quizzes at the end of a level should be harder as I can easily pass through it without trouble but I can’t remember the characters an hour later. And finally there should be a review quiz that you can take when you want and it gives an overview of all the characters you’ve learned and it tells you what levels you need work in. Overall, this app is brilliant and the most fun way to learn Chinese! -Teague Rodriquez

Hi. I like this new way of learning Chinese, and the illustrations helped me. But I’m a nine year old Chinese girl who already learned a lot since 5, and these words are too simple. It costs money but I dont mind, I’ll just ask my mom. Anyways, I love this app and it’s amazing, and I’ll wait for new levels. Thank you, ShaoLan for releasing this app! Edit: woops I accidentally pressed one star. Anyway, I agree with other reviewers and there should be like a pronunciation thing so I don’t get it wrong. My grandma had to correct me a few times, so that’s one suggestion. I think I’ll use my savings to pay for the chineasy fee, but I still think that 4.99 is a little too much, so maybe I’ll go for the annual one. I’m still deciding and I have to ask my parents first

Traditional or Simplified?. I like some of the aspects of this new app, but question why it does not concentrate on either Traditional or Simplified characters. As a fairly new student to Mandarin I find it confusing to switch between the two. I feel it is important to understand that I am learning one system or the other. There doesn’t appear to be any reason to switch between, maybe they did it because some look better visually. If so, this is a deceiving way to market an app that is geared toward education. I have been looking forward to using the Chineasy ideas in app form for my learning, but this release was quite disappointing and not worth my time or money to learn a mix-n-match of methods. Update: I am not buying the developers response. They do not give a choice of which characters they make you learn, which switches between traditional and simplified. I will agree with the statement about teaching the cultural insights, but the fact remains that they are not giving choices and will end up confusing students when they realize they cannot use the characters interchangeably.

How does this makes sense?!. So yesterday I installed the app. It was amazing that I went straight forward and bought an annual subscription as it promises 1000+ words. I was sorely disappointed today when I reached level 40 out of 200 and there is NO MORE CONTENT AVAILABLE. That is simply ridiculous. I am honestly thinking about a refund as this is uhm. Unexpected. If this was not the case I would increase the rating to 5 stars without and issue. Edit: Still staying with my 1 star review as they promise a 1000 words and deliver about 200. Your approach to marketing this app is leaving a bad mark on it. If you do have all the levels done, and you are not releasing them so people do not abuse you - you should also consider the feelings of people who support you. Your roadmap is not the only thing that matters.

A great app but it needs improvements. I love Chinese, but it needs some improvements. First of all Chineasy needs a way for you to write down Chinese characters and see if you got the writing correct. Also Chineasy needs a way for you to speak Chinese characters and receive feedback. I would also like it if there was a feature that would allow you to translate the sentences you have learned to reinforce the language. Lastly Chineasy needs a way to review the characters that you have learned every 10 lessons or what is appropriate for the situation. Overall I am very pleased with this app and it will get better throughout time and I’m excited to continue my learning through Chineasy. If you want to learn Chinese use Chineasy!

Title. I think this app is great! The images are super memorable and creative. I love the captions for each of the words but often wish they were longer and more descriptive about the definition, as not every word can be directly translated to English as it's displayed. I'd also like clearer categorization on the subject of each lesson and an easier way to practice earlier lessons all together. It'd also be helpful if among possible answers are other words being learned in each lesson in order to challenge the user more. I'm enjoying using this app and was surprised how quickly I could identify Chinese characters in other bodies of text.

Amazing when I use it but.... There should be a reminder 4 using it so u can remember to use it because it is a great app. It’s very helpful especially since I have lived in China for a few years and may go back but I lost most of my Chinese tho i didn’t know much anyways. It is very easy to cheat so I haven’t learned anything yet but the app is fun. The way u can cheat is when u get to the questions you can just go back and look at the answers, also the creators should make an update where they should set a time for studying and then lock when someone gets to the questions so they can’t look back. Thank you for reading my review if its either a person getting the app or the creator if it’s the creator then I would love it if you could look into my ideas thank you, also, if you could add some more words thank you. You should get this game!!!!!!

A Practical Review. TLDR: Neat approach and engaging, but only somewhat useful at best for serious Chinese learners. My background: I’ve been dedicated to studying Chinese for awhile, and quite curious about the different teaching approaches geared towards Westerners, being a radically different language. At this point I’ve used all the most popular apps, and have been working with an actual Chinese teacher. How does this app rate as an actual useful learning tool? It’s a radically interesting approach no doubt. It does a good job at making each lesson as simple and as engaging as possible. What I like best about it is no other app handles the written language well, if at all. Remembering characters are the main and only focus here. This a fun little game, but you’re going to need more tools in the tool box if you’re serious about learning Chinese. Sentence structure and grammar aren’t covered here, neither is an opportunity to write characters. One thing the app is lacking is there isn’t a good review mechanism: yes, you can view the cards you unlocked, but that’s it. I wish characters learned earlier had to be reviewed within a certain decay rate to keep things fresh.

Great app but needs some work. The app is very aesthetic and the lessons are very intuitive easy to remember, but it needs to be bug tested as there are some problems with audio and navigation.

The Best. I haven’t enjoyed learning characters this much ever before. I didn’t know learning chinese could be this fin and easy. Thanks for introducing such a user friendly method for foreign learners.

Missing the features of other apps. This app provides a fantastic graphic way to learn characters. However, it lacks the common features of other similar apps. Each section provides a good selection of characters with a handful of questions to check how well it has been learnt. It doesn’t, however, have an easy way to review what you’ve learnt to aid retention or a way to easily search for characters you’ve learnt. This is an enormous flaw. There is no way you will retain the knowledge of all the characters based on a single viewing.

Amazing app + suggestion. This app can help you learn chinese in a way that is both engaging and interesting. However it could be improved by adding a feature that allows you to practise existing words that you have learnt rather than just having them there for you to look at yourself.

Easy to learn. I am really enjoying learning this way . Picture references really help me remember great app.

Impressive app!. I am a complete beginner to learning Chinese and Chineasy is the perfect method and balance of learning a new language in a fun and relatable way. It is methodical, logical and explained so well that I really understand what I am learning. And if you understand it, you remember it. With Chineseasy, I really understand it. It sinks in! Thank you so much Chineasy, I love your app and all the extra learning tools that you provide for us to help with our learning journey!

Chineasy is great!. This is my favourite app! I love playing this in the evening, it helps me to understand so much! Thank you! Xie xie! ^_^

In-depth but Chinese made EASY. From a Chinese background, I can safely say that this is a very useful and interesting tool to supplement my current knowledge of characters with cute imagery, and back-stories to each character’s make-up. Notwithstanding, it has expanded my understanding of words I already know!

多谢了!. It’s really useful for me to approach Chinese because the image is cute and help me to remember longer. It doesn’t make me feel bland. However, i think this app should have Writing session because i’m not sure about the order of writing strokes. By the way, thank you a lot!

Fantastic!. I am moving to China so I needed to learn Chinese. This app is easy, fun, and makes it easy to understand!

Why I like Chineasy cards. I like Chineasy cards because it is fun and you can learn about Chinese.🤣😍😜

Chineasy. So easy to learn the pronunciation and script. Best tutorial I have experienced.

So good. I love it. Being a visual person, this helps me immensely!

Not afraid of characters anymore. Memorising Chinese characters used to be my nightmare but not anymore!!! Just love it.

Huge rewards for the novice leaner. You will be rewarded quickly - the gamification of education is evident in the form and content of this game. Excellent.

Simple effective!!. A beautiful app, that is simple and very easy to understand. I love how there are drawings that represent the characters and gives an explanation. I highly recommend it! The reason why I didn’t rate it 5/5 is because it would be great if the quizzes gave a bit more of a challenge, their not bad, but I feel the quizzes are too short and so it doesn’t enforce that learning. This is just a thought (note I haven’t gone to far into the levels so I could be greatly wrong) but it would be great if there was a section that taught grammar and how to write. Regardless, a great app!

Great for kids. My daughter is learning so much from this app. Great idea, great execution and many great learnings.

NotLetting me continue over level four. I liked it just The fact it’s not letting me continue level 4

NEED NEW LEVELS 😀. Absolutely amazing content !! Itching for new levels !!!!

Really Good. Even though you have to pay to unlock more levels, this app amazes me of how accurate it is

So far so good. So far it’s really good, I’m making good process but I just hope I don’t have to lay for anything Hehe

Start with this app! Highly recommended. I had been wanting to learn Chinese for a long time but had never quite found a system that worked for me. Enter Chineasy! Easily digestible lessons that primarily focus on characters, their meanings, pronunciation, and how they relate to and create other words and characters. As a native English speaker a lot of these concepts and relationships are very hard to initially understand but Chineasy presents each lesson in a very simple, logical way using mnemonic devices and repetition and everything continually builds upon the last thing you learnt. Other language apps I have tried focus much more on conversational phrases, which of course are important, but the way Chineasy centres around learning characters feels like it is giving me a much stronger foundation in the whole language. I understand this is only the beginning of learning Chinese for me, but I cannot recommend this app highly enough for anyone who would also like to start but is really put off by the scale and daunting nature of it all. It has really made me excited about learning Chinese. It’s all finally making sense!

Learning is so much fun. :D this app is so helpful

Needs test/review function. This app would greatly benefit from a test/review function every say 5 or 10 lessons. Otherwise I’m enjoying it!

Very good app. I lo❤️e it sooo much!!!! I don’t understand why you always have to almost force us to pay 💰 so that we can do quizzes. This is kinda bad, so pls fix!!!!

The best app.. This format is the best for beginners. Remembering characters is hard, but the simple yet very clever system is great.

Very good app to visualize the language.. This is a marvelous app. Definitely recommend this to others. Please make an option to have a test for us on all words we learned so far. It is better to show the plain text without visual to see if we remember. But, please put an option to show a hint by showing the visual behind the text if we need it.

Create testing!. This app would be perfect if it included tests for everything learnt after a set number of levels to make sure we are retaining what we learn! I particularly like the spaced repetition model used for review in the HelloChinese app.

Love your work.. Learning Chinese on 1688 was one of the hardest and time consuming things I’ve ever done for my business, But thanks to SHAOLAN HSEH and this app training was simplified and made easy to remember. Thank you:) KAL K.

Annalise 您好❤️🧡💛💚💙💜. 很喜欢💕!Though I cannot pay for it,but I’ve done it before and I already know how to speek Chinese and it’s a bit slow but I like it ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🇨🇳

Amazing!!. It engages you from the very beginning and leaves you wanting to learn more and more ! Just love it !!

Love this app. Who knew reading and understanding Mandarin would be so easy??? 💖💖💖

Good For Learning. Chinese Teacher recommended this app for learning Chinese. Chineasy is a great app for learning but they should make it iPad compatible. All in all Chineasy is a wonderful app.

Good for Beginners. The app is free but before you download, keep in mind that you can only access 5 first courses. The rest of the course need a subscription. Sometimes, the drawing was too far fetched, yet the graphics are really really nice. I think it’s a good complimentary app if you’re learning Chinese. I don’t think you can use this app solely to master Chinese... The quiz algorithm is quite poor-in multiple choice questions, we can obviously guess the answer since the rest of the answer options are not mentioned in the chapter.

Quizzes need work. App concept is great, love the imagery but I feel the quizzes aren’t good enough for re-enforcing learning at the moment. The choices too often contain the correct answer and then other completely random answers for words that haven’t been covered yet, so it’s not a test of what you’ve just learnt, but just recognising the obvious answer out of the 4 choices. Would expect an option to test me on what I’ve learned with the questions and answers from lessons I’ve done. Would also like to be able to play the sound on the illustration card and or the ability to scroll from the description side of the card.

10/10 would recommend. I graduated studying mandarin at uni a few years ago and it’s been tough keeping my Chinese up to scratch. The visuals and friendly UI make this the perfect option for me to help keep my language up to scratch. Worth the purchase

Wow, just wow :|. My dad always wanted me and my little brother to learn Chinese, and when he found Chineasy, learning Chinese felt so much more entertaining! I love this app, especially the small blue character they include! I recommend downloading this app.

Thanks #guiltfempod - Great plug!. Listened to ShaoLan on #guiltfempod - thought I’d try the app and found it really good. Thought that the tonal pronunciation and characters would be impossible but the stories and logic behind them make it accessible to learn. My 12yo has now got up to lesson nine and learnt 37 words and is loving it! Thanks #guiltfempod - Great plug!

Love it, only learning because of app, but one suggestion.. I love using this app. It is s fun way to learn Chinese. I had no intention of learning Chinese until I saw this app. I am at level 6 at the moment. The only thing I would suggest is that it’s great to be able to go to ‘review’ but there is only options of seeing the picture with the word. I would have liked for there to be only the word, so that I can test myself on previous levels. Or to have two review pages; one with picture clue and other without picture clue. But great work on this app.

Ripoff - don’t subscribe to this!. This app charges a subscription fee for, in their advertising, more than 1000 lessons. However they have only produced 100 lesson cards but refuse to stop or pause the subscription until they have produced more cards. So a customers subscription is obsolescing away without being able to use it. They refuse to change their pricing model to be a one off charge which would make more sense, or pause the subscription until they have released more cards. And they believe this unethical and illegal behaviour is quite ok. They see nothing wrong with charging their customers money for a service they are unable to provide. Fortunately Apple were kind enough to refund the fee however by Apple allowing them to continue to charge money for no service puts Apple at risk of being seen to support this unethical company. Chineasy should be removed from the Apple platform immediately. ***** Response to developer response: “lessons”, “lesson cards” and “words” are the same thing in this app. You do not provide the amount advertised.

Great for memorising 汉字. This app is a wonderful way to learn and memorise Chinese characters, while also learning about their origin. It’s been the missing piece in my learning!

I love Chineasy. I absolutely love Chineasy. Only one suggestion would be adding more free lessons. I am still living at home and can’t pay for it. Maybe people could watch ads to unlock lessons? Otherwise absolutely amazing Chinese learning app.

!!!. Please make one for Japanese too!

Excellent way to learn chinese!. A very interactive way to learn Chinese! Looking forward to see further updates such as testing pinyin tones, using the right words in appropriate sentences and the option to test without the pictures. Also categorisation of the cards would be a good feature too. Great work! Keep it up.

Learn Chinese the Chineasy way.. I would like to write a review a bit later when I have learnt a bit more So far I am very impressed with the Chineasy system.

Totally fun. One way ticket to language fun town.

Great. 4 stars because I only use for like 10 minutes but I find it really useful, especially for beginners

Great but.... I think this is a great app so great job making it but I am very poor and I think the preumium should be free otherwise I am deleteing this app

The new Chinese Revolution. I picked up Chineasy (the book) in an airport. I’ve raved about it since turning the first page. Chineasy Cards revolutionises Chinese language learning!

Great!. Into lesson 90, doing about 1-5 lessons a day for the last few months. it’s simple, motivating, and rewarding to see how things connect. As a visual learner and using symbols or analogies for recall, this app really leans into that. There isn’t much direction in terms of ideal practice methods, but I found this is my process: 1. Start with the SRS review 2. Make a custom lesson of the words I didn’t catch in the srs as well as some other notibly hard ones 3. Move onto new lessons I repeat this every time I open the app, to ensure that I’m not only learning new words but remembering them well each day!

Chineasy is the best app.. I watched a Chineasy video on YouTube and found the whole idea a really interesting and a fun way to learn Chinese. Well after trying this app, I can truly say it’s the best “learn Chinese” app available on the app stores. It’s so much fun to learn Chinese!! I am loving this so much

Awesome app!. It’s a really great app but is there a simplified Chinese version in the works? I’ve learned a good number of simplified characters already and would like to continue on with that!

Amazing. Such a great app. Only started using it but it helps you learn Chinese very quickly. The only thing that could improve it would be a spaced repetition learning system to review characters.

Great app, but Mandarin only. For someone who is interested in Cantonese this app just throws you off. You can’t switch the oral part. At the very least allow one to skip over the pronunciation.

It’s Chineasy to do Chinese Lessons!. Don’t forget to take lessons 1-10!

Really helpful to learn/remember characters. Helps learn the word, it’s meaning and the character to be able to read/write

Good for reading and speaking!. Very comprehensive and the review feature is fantastic. The only thing that is missing for a full 5 stars is more focus on the writing aspect of Chinese characters. The app already has a writing feature but it only appears in rare circumstances and is extremely under-utilized. Adding that writing feature as apart of the daily lessons or even as just an optional test for each character you learn would be perfect.

Love this game. This game is the best it helps me learn Chinese by the minute 5 stars

Bien expliqué. L’application donne des méthodes Et des comparaisons pour se souvenir des symboles chinois. C’est ludique et pratique. Le tout fonctionne sous forme de jeu avec des niveaux et on voit notre apprentissage. De plus, j’ai de la revioque je peux faire en tout temps avec mon Apple Watch . Je progresse plus vite, c’est très encourageant!

Wonderful and fun. My son and I like to play together.

I am sad. I am sad because you only get 8 free levels :(

Professor Saqib. Excellent app! Only one so far that made Mandarin accessible to me for the first time!

Very helpful got visual learners. Excellent learning method! Well done!

SUPER AMAZING. This app is amazing and The price doesn’t matter it’s learning after all 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

Second year in China. The strong emphasis on the Chinese characters as opposed to the pinyin helps a lot with reading. The way the characters are introduced in a logical way and there is some back story given about their creation really helps with memorization. The app is also very forgiving and allows you to fix your mistakes.

Really good. Its really addicting but i only got 8 levels' it would be nice if I could have a few more levels

Awesome!. This app is great. I’m interested in learning Chinese, and this made me advance a lot. You are the best!

Great app for Visual Learners!. I’ve been trying different apps to learn Chinese and I think this is a great app for memorization and learning new characters. My only feedback would be that in the traditional quiz, provide the traditional version of some characters when quizzing about the pinyin or definition (and same for simplified).

5 Star for a reason!. Easy to use! Helps you understand and correct words!

I recommend it !. This app is so cool I recommend it you can learn chinese easily and you can learn on the go 𝙻𝚘𝚟𝚎 𝕚𝕥

Useful and fun to learn characters. Thank you for your great application! Sorry, but there is nothing after 250? Should I be more patient? :-)

Good app but not worth $60. I enjoyed the app but after paying for the premium its not really worth the money. Basically $60 to learn characters and nothing else.

Best way to learn Chinese characters. I love this app so much! I’m a visual learner and the stories behind the characters help them to stick in my memory so much better then the traditional way of learning. Thank you so much to the creator of this, fantastic job :)

So fun, I am amazed!. I am not sure this app will help people to speak Chinese (maybe I did not go far enough) but will definitely help to acquire new words! I wish we could have the same for Japanese. Thank you for this wonderful work.

Subscription should be removed. The app is great and I’d consider buying it but sadly it’s subscription based.

Well Made. I’m Chinese by blood but I was born in Canada, this has made learning Chinese more interesting. I can now actually learn the basics. This app is great for people who don’t understand Chinese too much or don’t seem interested enough. My parents have made me learn Chinese and I am happy learning Chinese using this app. It’s art work is amazing and keeps me interested as I go along the levels. I am on level 130 as of right now and I will continue to learn using this app!

This is so fun!. This is honestly so fun, I have to stop myself from doing more than a level or two a day (because I need to retain it and not just enjoy it)! I love that there are pictures to help you associate the characters with the meaning, making them easier to remember. Also, the brief explanations are interesting and highlight the cultural and historical depth of the language. I would be happy for a bit more detail, even.

Apprentissage ludique du chinois. La méthode visuel et audio et les questions à la fin de chacun des modules renforcent la rétention des mots appris. Les questions alternent entre le visuel et l’audio. Chaque module peut être fait en moins de 5 minutes.

Needs a pop quiz feature. Love the design and cards overall. I really wish there was a randomized quiz or so similar feature. Also annual payment models make me grumpy.

Amazing amazing amazing. This app is going to change my life. I have searched for something fun, accessible and easy to learn Chinese and I’ve found it. I am so happy.

Productive easy to use. Its a productive and easy to use with lots of creativity to help us learn. Im using free version

Beautiful design.. Well designed and overall a great app. Thanks

I’m learning so fast. Wow, this game is the best ! I am surprisingly learning really fast ! It’s fun and it helps a lot.

Cool.. Coming from mainland China, with experience in chinese, some of the things here will never be used in bejing or guangzhou. However, it is an amazing app for learning chinese, and I love it.

Grammar?. Great app. Makes it very easy to learn new words. Can you add grammar and sentence structure in the future?

Cute. Cute app for me to learn reading as a Chinese-born Canadian who can’t read or write that well but can speak quite fluently. Low commitment since levels are short and easy, good price. A few suggestions; when reviewing cards, it would be great to be able to change views of the deck of review cards to be all plain so I can go through and see if I remember without any aid. In addition, it would be great if there was a feature that let me select words I’ve already looked at (or if the customization is too much even just all the words I’ve already looked at) and test me on them. I feel like even if words can be combined for different meanings eventually I’ll forget some, and sometimes I want to mass-review quickly rather than learn new ones. Edit: biggest drawback is that it teaches you to read some words in traditional and some in simplified. As someone learning, it gets pretty confusing.

Super interesting.... ... Way to learn Chinese characters. But I wish the App interface was slightly better when scrolling across diff characters, without the need to tap on each character every time to enable scrolling.

BEST APP. ive been studying Chinese for a while and this is by far the best app i have found i highly recommend it!!!!

Very very excellent and smart. I love its not too good or bad it’s just right for me haha!

Only 4 LEVELS. If you go with the normal path where you don’t need to use your money it’s only just four levels why, please add a little more levels to the free path

Great app. Awesome. Download the podcast too. Great for listening to some getting ready for the day

Fun!. Since I bought both Chineasy books by Shailan Hsueh— Chineasy; Chineasy Every Day, I also downloaded this electronic app to learn these same pictorial characters! Very fun!

Neat concept. This is a neat concept and I like the use of real audio, but the audio volume needs to be increased.

Amazing!. So far, I love this app!! Have never found such a good language learning one.

It sticks!. I love this! I have tried a few different apps for Chinese, but this one is spectacular for learning the vocabulary. The little pictures and descriptions of the characters really help make it stick in my head! I can’t always remember the pronunciation, but I can usually remember the meaning of the characters. Really cool. I ended up paying for it as I was enjoying it so much.

Awesome!. Fun app.

Really great. I’m not at the point where you pay money (if you even have to), so this is very good. Way of teaching let’s me not forget everything instantly. Recommend if you’re trying to learn Chinese

Only 4 lessons then a pay wall. More content should be available for free. Subscription should be for premium content. 4 lessons isn’t even enough to see if the app is good enough to be worth paying for.

Great app. I am 3- and still really enjoying using this app to help build up my Chinese basics. I was very happy that they included traditional characters! Thanks!

A blessing for Chinese Learners!. I will start this by saying that I studied Mandarin for 4 years in college, it was my major, I studied abroad in China, and I go to China often for work. Whether you're just starting you're learning journey or have years under your belt, this app is so helpful! One of the fundamental things you learn in Chinese class is that characters are pictographs or ideographs, being that they represent something visually or conceptually as an idea. A great thing that this app does is help you connect the visual representation of a character with it's meaning, and that's why I love it! I hope they continue to add more and more exercises to challenge even seasoned learners!

Chinawesome!. I absolutely love this app… I’ve only been using it for a short while but it sends me a reminder to work on my Chinese. And the lessons are short, informative, and fun if you are a very busy person with many things on your plate but would like to learn a new language! Thank you!! 🤩😀

This is exactly what I needed. I’ve been fascinated with the Chinese language for as long as I can remember and have ALWAYS wanted to learn the basics of it. Now I can finally understand what the characters mean AND remember them based on what they are supposed to look like! I never thought the Chinese language would be this simple and efficient to comprehend. I’m loving this app.

amazing. i cannot recommend this app enough! i work in a nail salon and wanted to learn the language of my coworkers and within a month, i can understand 300 words and write/read about 30 of them. i had no idea mandarin could be so easy to learn! my coworkers are amazed and taken aback that i can sometimes understand them now and it is honestly so fun to learn! the tones are daunting at first but if you have native speakers around you, it is not impossible. this app is an amazing tool to learn individual words and sentences as well as the culture behind the characters and phrases. i love it!!

Intuitive, Enjoyable, Effective. I have tried several Chinese language apps and Chineasy is, by far, the best app I have tried. The interface is intuitive and fun. There are check points provided along the way allowing you to test the knowledge you have gained along the way. Practice writing characters, practice pronunciation, review! All neatly package in a single fabulous app. I love it!

I never write reviews… but this deserves a special shout out. I love this app! It makes learning fun and easy. I have been enjoying it for almost a year now, even with the new update and the changes, it’s a fabulous idea, wonderful execution, great all around experience!

Great app for beginners. I love how this app teaches you about Chinese characters and the pinyin tones. I just started learning Chinese a month ago. So even as a beginner, I feel this app is a great app in learning Chinese. I really love love the culture lessons as well. After learning about a Chinese character or numbers. I love the backstory some of the characters and numbers have. By far, one of the best apps I have downloaded to learn Chinese.

Never imagined I could read Chinese. I came to the U.S. when I was five and never had the chance to learn to read and write my mother tongue. This method is working well for me. Not only am I learning to recognize the radicals, I’m also enjoying the cultural explanations provided. Thank you so much. I can’t wait to teach my children as well.

Unable to use the app without creating an account first. Unfortunately I can’t provide a proper review of the app because I wasn’t able to use it. I would happily pay the subscription fee. But I, like many, do not feel like I should have to create a separate account to use an app. I do appreciate that you read all feedback and hope you make some changes. I’ll check into the cards you have. :)

AMAZING CHINEASY CARDS. This app makes it sooooo easy to learn and remember how to speak in Chinese!!! I work with a lot of Chinese customers so to have this tool available and how easy it is to learn has been a life saver for me!!! Thank you so much for making this an easier way to learn the language by using the characters and the pinyin too!!! Wow Amazing!!!😁👍🏻👍🏻

Awesome way to learn mandarin!. My 6 year old and I love this app, and it’s engaging for both of us. We often work together on words and characters and compete to get higher levels. A good mix of teaching and reviews helps build skills gradually. The interface is easy to navigate and it sends reminders to practice, which is great when you’re busy. Highly recommend!

The best app for learning Chinese. If you are a visual learner like me, I couldn’t recommend this more! This is my third and by far most successful attempt to learn Chinese. Though it seems daunting, Chineasy makes learning Chinese simple and fun. I especially appreciate the use of picture flashcards to teach the characters. I’ve learned nearly 600 words and counting!

A Paradigm Shift for Learning Characters. Learning Chinese characters is often talked about as being tedious, difficult, and time consuming. I was nervous to start because that was my perception, too. But this process makes it easy, fun and engaging. And, if you choose to, you still have the opportunity to learn the history of the characters. A great process!

Such an amazing app. I look forward to using this app every day to help me with learning Chinese. It is such a beautiful app with great artwork. But the way the app is developed makes learning Chinese interesting, and fun. The podcast has also been wonderful to listen to. Thank you for creating this app and sharing it with us all.

Simply amazing!. Hi, I want to thank the developer for creating this fun and easy-to-learn app for adult learners. I’ve always wanted the know the story behind these Chinese characters, and now it makes reading an exciting and pleasurable experience. I spent $19 for the one year subscription and I love it! I feel comfortable knowing I can always go back and review any of the lessons taught. Great job!

Highly recommend, except they need traditional/simplified modes!. Just started using it, but I love the pictures! Great graphics. It introduces characters in a slightly different order than most beginning Chinese apps, so it makes a good second app to have to further supplement your vocabulary. However, I dislike that they don’t have two modes, one for simplified characters and one for traditional characters. It’s such a great app, but it makes me lose my focus to see both. I really hope they fix this.

Wonderful tool for learning characters. I have attempted Japanese and Chinese in the past and given up because of my frustration trying to learn Kanji and Hanzi. This app is beautiful, engaging, and really reveals the mindset of a character based language to a westerner. I look forward to using it more extensively to help me build a foundation for Chinese without relying on pinyin indefinitely.

Student. I’m studying Mandarin, and this app is a useful companion for my studies. The learning model is well constructed, thoughtfully - even playfully - composed. Try this as a beginner to quickly learn fundamental components of Chinese language via the Pinyin pronunciation system. You’ll find learning simple, and what you learn will stick. The app engages multiple senses at once, and it’s fun!

Great for learning 中文. Its based on the same fundamentals as the book and board game of the same name. The app is flash card based with testing at the end of each level to check retention. It’s far more sophisticated than its duolingo counterpart tiny cards. Would recommend for anyone with an interest in learning mandarin as a second language, as well as simple enough for children to use.

Chineasy is AMAZING!!. My family is Chinese and I wanted to learn, so my dad found this app! I’ve gained so much from just a couple levels! The graphics are also so amazing and creative! Being a really young artist it’s so cool to see these characters and see what people think they look like! I love this app! I’ve had no major problems and can’t wait to keep learning! 👍👍

Review feature and grouping by radical please. I’m a native speaker with no reading ability as it would be so useful if I could review all characters learned in the manner used for individual levels! The same format and everything - just all learned characters pooled together so I can review. Thanks! Otherwise this app is the most useful software I’ve come across so far.

I like most of the features but it could be better. Chineasy is a pretty good app for learning Chinese characters but there seems to be no way to actually practice how to write the characters out. Especially being a beginner, the stroke order can be difficult so I’ve had difficulties actually writing the characters out manually. I really like the pictures however, as they are very helpful in memorizing the characters that can seem very tough at first glance.

Thank you!!. My family is adopting a girl from China and this app has made the process even more exciting!! I never thought there would be any way me or anyone in my family would ever be able to learn let alone understand anything from China!! Thank you so much for the app and adding something so amazing to an already special moment in my families life!!

Very glitchy. Hard to use. The voice recording is mandatory, which makes this impossible to use many places (subway etc) when one might have down time. The voice recording also doesn’t always work; when this happens it cannot be bypassed so you are stuck at a lesson unable to record or to move on. If this feature is skippable (even if for a short time while one is in a place where speaking is rude) I would consider using again.

The best. I’ve tried to learn Chinese several times and given up from the pure difficulty of the language. The farthest I’ve ever gotten is being able to say simple sentences (like “找果中国人“) This app makes it fun and easy to do. Side note: it would be really cool if the app were to include simple readings in Chinese about Chinese news or culture as one progresses through the levels.

Great teaching. I have been learning Chinese on Duolingo before finding this app. This app really explains the characters and their formations better. It feels like you have a real teacher teaching you a language instead of repetitive memorization. I have been enjoying using this app and look forward to continuing my Chinese journey.

Better than Duolingo!. This app is amazing. I love the illustrations and the descriptions of each word- they really help make it easier to remember the character. Having short lessons is nice too, and I love being able to look back on my “learned words” anytime I want to (and separated by simplified and traditional). Very helpful app :)

Brings her book to life. I loved her book and this lives up to the standard the book set: awesome graphics and gentle humor, vividly linking the characters and meanings for me. Now, I may even learn to speak some Mandarin, which wasn’t part of the plan originally—I just wanted to read it a little and understand the very different grammar. 谢谢!

This is a fantastic companion to increase vocabulary. It is so much easier to learn new words through this app. The only thing I would love to see is the ability to easily review all the characters I’ve learned through a randomized testing section. Big ask though, I know, I’ll enjoy the app either way!

Love app but having recording problems. I love this app so much, but the part where it’s supposed to record my voice and show if I said it right breaks down often. After working fine for 15 minutes or so it will suddenly be no longer able to play my voice back and at the same time will suddenly say that every word I say is wrong. I’m assuming this is because it’s not actually recording me but I can’t figure out why. Sometimes if I quit the app and reopen that fixes it but I’m paying for this app so it shouldn’t happen. I’m on an iPhone 8.

Great app but I wish it had character writing practices. The app does a swell job of learning fun and fast and it even provides short tests for u after each session of new words you’ve learned which is great to make sure you remember the words you learned, however, I wish it had character writings tests to practice on each character/word since the app provides an illustration integrated into the character itself to make it easier to remember the characters.

The latest update made the app horrible. We loved the app and use it daily. However, after the latest update, all our previous progress has been lost, the original quiz option is gone, and the newly added in-progress quiz is not working well, often the screen content is not fully visible on iPad. It has been very frustrating since the forced update.

Excellent, but I wish we could write the characters!. I love this app for learning the characters! I was excited to see that they have added writing the characters but only to the daily character that pops up upon entering the app. If this feature is added to all the characters I will be so happy!!!

Nice app. I tried it out for a bit and really liked the interface. I downloaded it to brush up on my Mandarin. Unfortunately I learned from living with people from the north part of mainland China, so some of the vocabulary and pronunciation is not quite what I'm used to. This is simply my preference, though, not a fault of the app or the developer. Great app for starting an amazing journey into a beautiful culture😊

Pretty great. The game is fun and you do learn some stuff, but I think it would be better for a little kid due to the fact that you can pass the levels simply with only taking in a few words. I’m in high school so this is kind of simple for my liking but I think if you had a toddler or little kid who you wanted to learn Chinese it would be a great captivating learning game

Impressive. Impressive. Not only easy and fun to learn but well structured and with a graphic design that is so effective and adorable that makes me smile the whole time. And English is my second language, so I’m learning Chinese through another language that I’m still learning. Fantastic!

Good app!. This a very good app! It teaches you the words and has pictures to go without which makes it easier to remember! Something that I would suggest is for it to be free until you get to level 10 so that you can learn more words because you have to pay money to learn level 5.

Good Concept but the app need more functionality. I really love the idea behind Chineasy, but I think the app needs a better system for review. I was introduced to this brand of Chinese-learning through Chineasy Tinycards and the incorporation of visuals. The Tinycards’ notecards are very limited, and I have hoped to have more review features in the official app, but they have not come. While a great introduction to vocabulary, it is hard to test retention using the app’s features.

Account required, subscription required. I’m willing to pay for useful apps, and I would be willing to pay for this if it was a one time purchase. But the app developers are greedy and charge a recurring subscription for something that should just be a one time purchase. Additionally, you can’t use the app at all until you create an account with them, even though there’s no technical reason you should have to do this. They’ve created a great learning tool, but they don’t respect their users.

Lifetime plan. Chineasy is one of my favorite ways to learn the Chinese characters. It’s very helpful and fun to use. I think that a lifetime plan should be offered though. I would prefer to do just one payment and call it done. Otherwise the app is great and I highly recommend it! It’s a fun way to learn and it passes the time. The pictures help to remember the characters, especially for people who have a hard time memorizing things.

Create an account? Why?. I read Apple’s Meet The Developer on this app, and it sounded wonderful, so I downloaded the app to try it out. First thing it did was tell me to make an account. Why? There doesn’t appear to be any reason for it, and I’m really up to here with everything and every one wanting me to create yet another account. This is a learning tool; I can’t see and need for an account other than some programmer decided it would be easier for us to track our progress if it was stored on their servers instead of, oh, I don’t know... our local device? Maybe iCloud? But no: before even beginning, first thing is to create an account. Nooooope. It’s a shame; the app looked fun and the pitch of bringing the world together through language learning really struck a chord with me. But the account onus stopped me cold and overwhelmed any curiosity I had with resistance to Yet Another Account. And the app gets deleted before I’ve even been able to try it.

LOVE. I’ve wanted to learn Chinese for years but found books and other apps made the written language inaccessible — this app makes it so easy! I’m having fun learning the system and can actually remember the words!!! One thing I’d love for the developers to do is add sounds to all words in the review sessions please? I know the point is sometimes to only rely on reading instead of hearing but I’d like more reinforcement to help connect the sounds to the words please!

Good? Maybe?. I started using the app and breezed through the first four levels before being told I’d have to pay to access the rest. Honestly, I didn’t get the chance to try it out long enough to decide if it was worth paying for (I’m also averse to subscriptions and generally only pay for one-time payment apps, so that’s a turn off too). I’ll probably skip this one for now... I’m sure it’s a great app, but not for me. :) Thanks for your consideration 谢谢你!

It’s is easier!. I like the method they use for learning Chinese characters and speaking the words. The reason I gave it four starts is because each section has review questions but not all the words we learned are covered. I feel I’m not retaining these words unless I go back and revisit those words specifically. If I find that the apps has a way to address these words, I will adjust my review.

Amazing learning app!!. I actually backed the book on Kickstarter a few years back, but its so much more accessible on the phone! I can study anywhere I have a few minutes! The artwork is intuitive, the explanations are great, the quizzes help solidify the content and the learning comes so much more easily because it’s fun! Great work!

Best Chinese learning app ever!. This app is amazing because it uses a visual approach with varied memorisation techniques, and it also actually helps you learn WHY the symbols/characters are what they are today. Learning the etymology of a language is so important, and this approach has advanced me miles in my learning like no other learning tool has. Cannot recommend it enough!!

Good enough. Has Benn good. I got it for my 5yo kid & myself and it’s great. Just a few bugs are annoying and doesn’t allow to skip lessons or choose the next step in your learning. Also you need to know all the cards before going to the next level. That’s so hard for me and even more for my 5yo kid. We spend several days stocked in the review level without knowing the answers.

Well designed. This app beautifully and clearly presents the meaning of common Chinese characters. The brief description if each character and its meaning and origin are helpful for memorization. The additional pictorial element creates a strong visual that also assists with learning the characters. This is a well-designed app that easily teaches common Chinese words and characters to anyone.

My First Review, Lover of Foreign Languages. The layout is superb! Very clean and simplified. I mean it’s just gorgeous. However, I wish it showed the stroke order. The Boa comes up too much (each time you an answer right—that’s a little annoying, especially for an adult learner). Also, there’s no Homepage. Well there it but it’s..eh. I think this app is designed for children ages 5-10. Overall I like it. It’s so pretty. 😍

Beautifully Simple and Fun!. This may be one of my favorite apps of all time. The whole app is well crafted and is a well thought out experience. It is designed well and is fun to use. I couldn’t recommend it enough, especially for beginners as it helps to lessen the feeling of being overwhelmed by being easing you into new concepts.
