Unnecessary changes. The new U.I. caused me to nearly have a heart attack yesterday. I don’t understand the difficulties in companies adhering to the old ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” saying. The additional longform text is gone from mobile under each lesson. I just started using MasterClass on my iPad earlier this week and was raving about how much I loved the U.I., how it had additional content under each video that I hadn’t seen on the web version on my laptop. I go back on yesterday after the update and this is gone completely! If you wanted to make a change that made sense you should’ve added the library of articles to the app. No reason it exists in masterclass but you can only see it on desktop. Lastly, an email notice of updates and changes to important features would have been nice. Users didn’t even get a heads up!

Great content, some app bugs which should be fixed. • Downloads page will only display if you have an internet connection. So you can play downloaded content offline, but only if you load up the page before you lose the connection. • On downloaded content, playback will abruptly pause itself randomly (usually when in the middle of losing cell service). • Downloading progress doesn’t always display “rings” to show progress and speed of download. After not seeing while on fast WiFi, it gives the impression there’s a bug with the feature itself. • Even while watching in video mode, the audio mode prompt which recommends you switch to video mode will still announce from time to time. My experience while watching downloaded content offline.

No offline support??? [UPDATED 5/6/18]. [5/6/18] Love the little video snippets you’ve added, especially for those of us who have “taken the plunge” and gotten the all-access pass. However, some crucial elements are still missing which I hope you will add soon: - off-line playback (this, again, is still the most obvious and needed feature IMHO for a mobile app) - shuffle forward/back by a fixed amount ( such as 6s): where are these controls? For classes, these are critical to make learning more efficient (both to immediately hear again something for added emphasis, and to skip ahead slightly forward for something I already know) - playback speeds? Again: this is one of the most useful features with the web version - please add! [original review]: (For $180/year)? Please add this immediately. I love many of the classes and have already subscribed to the yearly membership, but this is a serious oversight for any App version (especially for those of us who don’t have unlimited data plans and are out and about – which is the point of using mobile in the first place, is it not?) If Netflix, Showtime, and others can do it – surely you can as well for that price. Please let me know if this is coming soon with thanks.

My Story - Master Class. My story Master Class During COVID-19 lockdown and Protest against racism and injustice to George Floyd, I was getting emotional watching the news. It was middle of May 2020 when I really started to show mental health problems. Before that I thought, “I am not the type to get depressed, I got this”. No way. I am not depressed but I am angry (another type of reaction) Ok, so I was affected. I started remote psychological therapy, my insurance suddenly started covering phone call therapy. I thought, “why not?”. My therapist said, “get your mind to go somewhere else. Maybe start a separate Instagram account on puppies”. Hmmmm. Then, Master Class is on my Facebook news feed. Neil deGrasse Tyson is offering a course?!! I took the chance. Boy, was it worth it! These exceptional people, the people who created miracles with their careers are talking to us. I felt them talking directly to me. Each class is uplifting. I recommend you to have something to write with, you will get the best advise. So, amidst a global pandemic and protests on injustice, you can listen to some of the best exceptional people as they light the torch and tell you how to be great.

Great concept, horrible execution. Not worth it. They offer the stars in this app (literally and figuratively) but the execution is horrible. All apps that are a membership should empower their customers to control when they pay (monthly or annually) and have the ability to cancel at will. This app doesnt allow either of those things. Its ONLY an annual membership, zero refund policy if you miss the cut off to cancel. The cost isnt small for a year, so a $200 unplanned for charge can hurt. And wait, its even better, you cant cancel easily! I had to go through contacting their customer service and have them verify my account, not with actual data about me but by the cost of the last charge?? I might not have cancelled if I liked the app itself. But alas, not so. The information was, again, a great idea in theory. But for all the amounts of education they provide, there is zero way to search, save, sort or otherwise keep the classes organized. I could literally only see what the app “proposed” to me when I log in. I would see ads for this or that MasterClass that seemed amazing. And then have no way of finding it myself. I wanted so much from this. And was so terribly disappointed. I tried, even after my membership renewing for a second year. I kept it to go in periodically and fiddle around. And it was so frustrating I just kept uninstalling it. Dont waste your time.

Sometimes the best advice is free. Each of these instructors are unique in that they were and are successful at what they do, at the cost of everything else. If you have the mindset and desire to pursue what you want to that degree, then you don’t need instructors. Just go do it. And: Never. Stop. Doing. Forever. If you find yourself constantly ‘plagued’ with hurdles, relationships and/or responsibilities, then be honest with yourself. Are you in a position or truly ready and willing to sacrifice life, your life and your relationships forever? Do you think that any of these talented, successful individuals can teach you how to realize your own vision, better than you? If you do, please stop. Ask yourself why you think you need them/this to succeed. It may be that you aren’t willing or ready to pay with your life and all potential relationships for something as-of-yet unseen. It may be that ‘it’ isn’t unseen and in that case you are the one who knows how to best pursue. Bravery is a momentary twitch or accidental save. Courage is belief in the face of adversity, for all time. You don’t need these wonderful folks to tell you that if you already know it. If you don’t already know it, now you do. Between you and me: sometimes great advice IS free.

App is broken. Hi, Masterclass content is great. Sometimes it could be more detailed outlining actual steps and be less superficial, but it’s nice and motivating. HOWEVER, the app is seriously FLAWED. It is slow, drains energy, crashes regularly, and downloaded content disappears, so you have to restart-download every video AGAIN (especially great when you’re traveling and don’t have data or reception). Why am I paying extra some something that doesn’t work properly? Oh yeah, and you have to go in and select EVERY video individually rather than having a “download all course episodes” button. I can’t believe this still isn’t fixed. And if the app crashes in between, you have to go and deselect them. In some cases it just stays stuck non-downloading, so you have to cancel and restart - Every. Video. Individually. You’re making enough money with this content. Invest some in the app to make it STABLE and USERFRIENDLY. PLEASE!

Things are no longer stale. I really have no desire to be an award winning adventure photographer, yet I love the outdoors and the philosophies of those who do. My son gave me this Master Class inspired by your two-for-one special. Imagine getting the opportunity to give a gift with a “kicker”? So I first entered the world of Jimmy Chin. I admire his work and have for some years. I found a highly reflective fellow who is passionate for life and has an interesting perspective. He shares it with me with his passion for his craft. So much content these days is “life destroying”. This material is challenging on so many levels. I love to read autobiographies. This Master Class is in some ways cheating. Folks who are known and successful in their respective fields teaching little ‘ol me how. What could be better?

Best possible Customer Service. A year ago, I signed up for MasterClass and today the app subscription automatically renewed. I had originally signed up to simply watch one or two master class sessions, and then I stopped using it. Since it automatically renewed today it became clear that I needed to cancel my subscription and get a refund because I stopped using this service. I sent an email to their app support team, kindly asking them to cancel my subscription, close my account, and refund my money. Within 20 minutes I received about five emails detailing the refund and cancellation processes of my account. This was the most pain free refund process I’ve ever encountered, and I’m so refreshed in knowing that good customer service is still possible. Because of this I will definitely consider using master class services again in the future. Thank you very much!

Serious app bug!!!. Don't know how nobody has mentioned this.. scenario: I watch on my phone, picking up where I left off, say on Chapter 8, and watch 2 chapters, close my phone on chapter 10 ... when I open the phone back up on the app it will not keep where I more recently left off!! It reverts back to Chapter 8, not chapter 10, thus losing my place in the course. It's been consistently happening and it's a very frustrating user experience. I don't like the user experience for the app overall but i like the content but this is the app store not content store.. I realllly don't like that my "List" is a left to right carousel form. I have like 20 courses on my list and i have to scroll all the way through to get to what I first picked??

Unpleasant Gifting Experience. If you are considering giving Masterclass as a gift - do NOT do that - Masterclass will charge you and then will charge again the person to whom you are giving it as a gift. I fell in to this trap twice and Masterclass support was really unpleasant. My wife gave me an annual subscription as a gift. I activated the gift as soon as I got her email on my iPhone. Their email said nothing that I cannot activate my subscription on my iPhone. As a result, Apple charged me for a new subscription. When contacted Masterclass, I was told that I am the one to blame. Apparently I had to active the gift via computer….Once again, their email said nothing about that. Well, it took some time and effort to get my money back from Apple…I finally succeded. Then I followed the recommendation and activataed my gift subscription again by clicking Acitvate gift on my computer. Masterclass immediately charged my card again....This is really upleasant expereince. On top of than their support is really really slow - take them at list a day to respond..and their first reposnse is that you are the one who is to blame.

Content is 5 stars, app is a 1. There are a lot of bugs in this app and I hope updates will fix them. Obviously the content is what’s most important, but it is a very glitchy interface. I’ll name a few of the larger problems, but there are many smaller ones. 1) When Chromecasting, the next lesson will not play automatically, but it will be queued up on the phone not playing. To play the next video you need to start playing a different one (this will cause it to disconnect from the chrome device) and then go back to the video you want and reconnect to the chrome device. 2) If you pause a video and leave the app open it will remain paused for 10-20 minutes and then begin paying again of its own accord on the phone in the background. This has happened twice and the first time it ran the entire night while I was asleep and marked all lessons played in that course. 3) If you want to browse through a course or simply add it to your list, the first video plays automatically and you have to pause it. So if you’re enrolling in many courses you have to start and pause a dozen times in a row just to add some courses to your list. Overall the service is great, but the app needs some work.

Commentary on Neil deGrass Lesson. I have just finished the lesson series by Mr. Neil deGrass and I feel like my brain, no…not just my brain, but my very soul, my very nature, has been touched in ways that inspire a desire to communicate to save our dear, earthly civilization! This man is genuine, the real deal, humble yet amazingly effective. The whole presentation is somewhat shorter than I thought it was going to be. Yet as I consider how long it should be, now armed with my knowledge of what makes Neil deGrass tick, the length of the lesson was perfect! Thank you Master Class producers for putting all this together. Giving me something incredibly interesting and important that I didn’t even know I needed! -Marshall Nielsen President, MCTV Corp.

Small on science. The science section is so small, only 4 classes with four great teachers, but that doesn’t even scratch the surface of what interest MasterClass could bring to the community of science enthusiasts. Someone (in marketing?) May have decided a wider audience would be more easily captured if MasterClass catered to interest in writing and television subjects. What they failed to understand or act on is the importance of science in those things, too. I’ve decided MasterClass is only getting the first year of my subscription money unless they can balance out the number of science classes with all the other classes offered. On the flip side, the content and structure of the classes are rich and powerful for understanding topics at a level many people take for granted. I’m very satisfied with what I’ve learned and my application of knowledge because of these classes so far. BUT WE NEED MORE SCIENCE SPECIFIC COURSES. Four classes is not worth more than a year of subscription $$$.

Great content the app needs…. Love the content, shared with friends, who also really love the content, I listen while walking the dog or in my car sometimes I’m taking notes. I really appreciate what this app offers. My only real complaint is the my progress section of the app. It’s very hard to get back to the beginning of a class that you are in the middle of or complete it. Sometimes I want to tell someone with the class was, or I want to look for a particular topic and I probably spent a good 6-7 minutes tapping on things trying to figure out how to get to the start of the class. There may be some other bugs that I haven’t come across, but this one is pretty annoying, not enough to make me stop using it, but I do hope it gets fixed. Some developers don’t develop from the users point of view… I think it could use a little bit of that.

Not as great as you think. So, for the longest time I was undecided about should I sign ip for Master class or not. My hesitation came from the fact that I couldn't find any reviews or anyone that could tell me is it worth it. The few reviews that I found were from people that obviously are big fans of celebrities and will feel like they learn something each time the celebrity is talking. Finally, I decided to sign up. And I have to say it is a hit or miss. Some classes such as the cooking classes, the photography classes are good. Because they are technical, you will definitely learn a trick or two. But I was disappointed in a lot of the classes. I am a writer and I did not feel like I learned much from the writing classes. Are the classes inspiring definitely, but can I guarantee you will learn much from them no. Don’t get me wrong, this review is based on an expectation I had from masterclass. i was expecting something like Skill-share but from the best of the best. Instead, I get to listen to celebrities and realize couple hours later that they did not teach me much or did not provide the knowledge that I was looking for . Please this review is from my personal experience with masterclass. Just because it was not what I was looking for does not mean that it wont meet your expectation. Thank you.

Awesome Courses and Worth the Money. MasterClass was an incredible idea and I’m happy it came to fruition. I’m super excited to have purchased the full access. I know that the information I’m receiving is from some of the most qualified names in their respective professions. The courses are organized into useful and applicable lessons. I’m learning so much and love being able to improve my writing and my culinary skills. I felt that my growth was becoming stagnant and this was the push I needed to bring myself to the next level, so thank you for that. My one recommendation for MasterClass, if you’re reading this, is to incorporate some sort of health, fitness, or nutrition section into the course catalog. This is something I’d love to learn about that I think would fit well into your system.

Not Worth the Money. I payed $179 for all-access. After two weeks, I finished the classes I signed up to watch: Marc Jacobs, Tan France, Diane von Furstenberg, and Anna Wintour. The lessons are very short so they are easy to binge. After watching the four classes, I don’t feel I came away with much new information. The instructors assume you know the basics and don’t go deeper into a topic. I cancelled after the first month because after the first two weeks, THE APP STOPPED WORKING. I couldn’t watch lessons, and most of the time I couldn’t even log into the app. Please fix this issue because almost every review says the same thing. Also, I would appreciate more Case Studies showing instructors actually doing their job so if you are considering entering a field you get to see what it’s really like. That would be very helpful. Last thoughts: add paying by month and app should be 17+ because some content is mature. Best instructors to watch: Sarah Blakey, Thomas Keller, Tan France, Dominique Ansel

Great clasess but not user friendly app.. Great clasess but 2 things. One is pretty scammy and it's towards the whole Masterclass not the app. 1. I wanted to sign in obviously I expected that the price will show first before clicking on payment. No. You enter your card, confirm and than u find your u were charged $180, without previous info. I mean, seriously? Not that I didn't know how much it costs but this is shady practice. 2. Like I said the clasess are cool. But why is it so disorganized and everything is all over the place? All I want is to see my favorite tutors in one page to choose from. Instead it shows page with tutors, under each other with like their clasess. So u have to review first the tutors clasess before it show u another tutor. Why not just tutor, then u click and then u have clasess? So bot user friendly app. Please do something with it? 😩🥺🥺♥️

Great for interesting people. Honestly this was the best investment I’ve ever made. I have interest in a lot of things. I love exploring new topics and hobbies. I’m an actor so I’ve watched all of the film and tv classes. Behind the scenes in front it’s super helpful to my craft and gives me some refreshing advice that may have slipped away since my conservatory days. I also love cooking being from south Texas and Mexican. So the cooking ones are super helpful. I also LOVE photography and having classes aimed towards that is phenomenal. Right now I’m watching the art of negotiation for the second time so I can get an agent lol ugh as you can see I have a lot of interest and if you do too this service is definitely for you! I’m so thankful and grateful to have the opportunity to learn from such amazing people. Thank you MasterClass ♥️

Great Content in a Lousy App. I’m on my 4th class, and they’ve all been fantastic. The only problem is the app (iOS). It functions, but the layout is terrible. I have to navigate a bit to find the class I’ve been working on every single time. Classes I’ve finished are presented to me as if I’d want to do them again. I don’t see anywhere to manage the downloads. I can’t download over cellular. Being a truck driver, that’s a big deal, since I often lose service and seldom have WIFI. I also can’t navigate away from the app while in audio mode. It stops playing when I lose service for a moment, so audio mode is no good for driving. That doesn’t make sense. WIFI-only downloads don’t make sense. The cluttered, incessantly nudging layout doesn’t make sense. If the content wasn’t so great, I would never use the app again.

They will rip you off. My sister bought me a year membership last year for my birthday. To get started, I had to enter a debit card number. Fast forward to this past week, and suddenly when I went to renew my car tags, my car was declined. I had been charged for another full year even though I did not sign up for auto renewal. I tried to email their customer service and I still haven’t received any response from them. The “statement” on my account says it was due on May 9 (my birthday is on the 28th of April). However, they did not attempt to collect any money until June 1. Super suspicious. I’m working with my bank to try and get it resolved, but if I can’t, I’ll be forced to take them to court. I loved the content of their app, but their shady business practices have left nothing but a bad taste in my mouth for their product. Beware of their scam to charge you an exorbitant price each year and do nothing to rectify the situation. Hopefully I’m not the only one they’ve done this to, and a class action lawsuit will be brought against them.

Mental tantalizing. This is one of the best subscriptions that I have ever purchased. It is one of those purchases where the subscription is absolutely worth it because of all the knowledge that you’re gaining. This is master class, not just cooking. This is truly about an experience and if you wanna know something you’re not gonna get this knowledge from some YouTuber or off of Google. These are masters in their craft! They have spent their entire lives on this and are sharing with you the hours and hours and hours and hours and hours of knowledge like gift to you with this subscription! It’s absolutely worthwhile and there’s so many classes on here that it’s a little overwhelming to try and choose one and go forth with it, but at the same time, when your interest change you can find some thing on here to make it worth your while

Classes are Wonderful, App is Horrible and Full of Bugs. The classes are wonderful but I am giving it one star because the app is filled with horrific bugs. One week it works and the next week it doesn’t. For example, this week I can longer go back to a previous lesson I watched within a class but last week I could. I contacted their help desk today. I am sure they will fix it but then something else will break from the fix. They never appear to test their latest fix to see if it broke another part that used to work. Here’s another example: on my user profile it used to display the classes I completed. Now it does not. But it now lists the class I completed as in progress. This isn’t as harmful as the first issue but it again demonstrates how awful their software testing department is, if they even have one. The evidence so far indicates that they do not. So we can assume the company is chronically understaffed so don’t waste your money on a company that is not run in a professional way. I am sad to say this because I really enjoy the classes. It’s a darn shame they can’t get the basics of running a well known brand with with excellence.

Quit auto advancing to another video! And quit auto deleting episodes!. There’s nothing like finishing a meditation session and having the app go immediately into the next lesson. It’s jarring and a horrible experience. And apparently there is no way to stop it (I’ve checked all the settings I can find) except to click on it immediately, which totally destroys the mood of finishing meditation. And quit auto deleting an episode once we have finished. Did you ever consider that some of us would like to go back and review something we just heard? This app is for learning, right? I had to download the whole series in order to be able to go back to episodes I had listened to. Ridiculously frustrating. And don’t ask me to submit a support ticket for this, like you do for so many other people who make suggestions. You should have the ability to make your own support tickets and fix things that bring your ratings down. Quit passing the buck on these things! There are consistent themes in these reviews: make this app easier to use; and make this app easy to cancel. Just be up front and do things right. Quit trying to be gimmicky. It just might pay off in the end.

Priceless. From the moment I saw the first commercial for Master Class I said that is compelling. A year later my wife gifted me an unlimited subscription and I have been absorbing some of the greatest content from true experts that I have ever found. Master Classes are each independent and different in their own ways because the producers let the experts dictate the pace and the topics that are most important to the instructor and therefore the audience. Over the last 6months I have watched at least 25 full classes and parts and pieces of close to 25 more. There is so much amazing content. I devour the marketing/ business and off beat topics. I have learned skateboarding from Tony Hawk, Magic from Penn and Teller, and the inside story as to how Disney purchased Pixar directly from the man who orchestrated it. I see different topics that I think, that doesn’t interest me, but when I watch the opener I am usually hooked, and later find so many things that are applicable to me in my personal and professional life. I am always recommending Master Class to others. Where else can you get inside the thought process of a writer, composer, chef, skater, magician, designer, photographer, negotiator and so many more. It’s amazing. Thank you for all the time that has been dedicated to making these classes so engaging, educational, and entertaining.

You Inspired Me. First, I’d like to thank MasterClass for creating an organic tool for inspiring actors, singers, entertainers, businessmen, etc; you’re providing people with the wisdom and personal experience shared from influential people and allowing us as consumers to taste the small reality of a high powered influentials life. In turn, this helps make these ‘idols’ more human and personable. I want to thank the guest speakers who’ve shared their testimonies and invested time, to break down their stories; In hopes to inspire other people. Additionally, I was inspired to write a song. Imagine, had I not purchased the subscription to MasterClass, I would’ve never written two songs in the last 48hrs. I’m grateful that I can use this resource to learn from the very best. Lastly, I highly recommend this app. You’ll gain insight, true inspiration and it’s education taught by favorable people. Thank you MasterClass, truly, Thank you!

Great service, needs a request button. I love MasterClass. I have had it for a few months now and have enjoyed a wide variety of classes, from Gordon Ramsay’s multiple cooking courses, to Shonda Rhimes’ course on screenwriting, to Chris Hadfield’s course on Space, to the new course from Metallica on being in a band (fantastic choice by the way). I would love to have a way within the app to request new courses, or at least request more courses regarding a certain topic. It would be awesome to have a course on writing a story by Dan Harmon, or to have some more courses about game development (there is one from Will Wright but it is more about design, not dev). Still, great app, both on my iPhone and on my smart tv.

Horrible customer service. Update! After the developer responded below, I opened a support ticket in hopes of resolving my issue. The support team told me again they couldn’t help. This is worse than terrible customer service but I can’t give a lower or negative rating. What a waste of time. ************************************ I bought this app form my wife and I for a Christmas gift on Black Friday sale. The memberships were started immediately without our confirmation. We didn’t want to use it until Christmas because that was the point of giving. When I found out we had lost a month of subscription, I called and was told there was no way possible we could start at Christmas instead of Black Friday. We lost a month of time when we didn’t use the app. The horrible experience with customer service resolving this has left such a bad impression, I won’t even use it now that I have paid for it. Keep your stupid courses to yourself if you don’t understand customer service and how to make things right. Count me out.

Wonderful product, terrible app. I would like to start of by saying, that I really love the content MasterClass provides. It’s well made, interesting, intelligent, and thoughtful. The fantastic product is let down by a miserable app. The app is buggy, loses place constantly, kicks you out of one class and randomly into another. It will shut itself down for no apparent reason, and when you open it back up it will have no functionality until you close the app a few (20) more times. It’s also very exciting because once in a while, you won’t know when, you’ll get a call while you’re watching a class segment. If you have the audacity to answer said call, your segment may (probably will) lock up your app and send you into the the reset loop game. This assumes of course that you’re still interested in Thomas Keller explaining the finer points of glazed carrots like I was, damned quality content. To sum up, a product of unimpeachable quality let down by its app.

Price for the knowledge earned. I am one that doesn’t put a price on knowledge. Knowledge is a very important part of our existence. Is this going to be a long drawn out review? No. To put this simply, the information, guides, and workbooks you get for this program are at a good price. Yes it’s a subscription but it’s a valuable one. Learning about cooking, negotiating, gardening, business, finance from some of the most outstanding and intelligent people out there is a fantastic opportunity. I am a nobody, but I love learning about business and this has helped me tremendously from the few months I’ve had it. As some of the greats have said, “listen to each side, you might learn something you didn’t already know.” The most important part, repetition. Once you have a skill down, listen or watch it again to better hone your skill. Knowledge is not cheap, you can either learn it by your experience or speed the process up by learning from someone else in the field you want to be in. Did this become a long and drawn out review? In my opinion, yes. Was this helpful to the next person deciding to purchase this subscription, learn new concepts, apply them in their lives and become part of a larger master mind group? Well, only you can decide. If this helps you decide to get the subscription I can promise you it’s work it. Keep learning my friends. Be a student, not a follower

Poorly configured app for such great content. I really like the content of MC, but this app is so poorly organized. Why are two of the navigation options at the bottom just for exploring new classes in different views (one in list, the other in thumbnails)? There’s no thought put into enrollment/subscribing to classes. In fact it’s completely counterintuitive. You enroll in classes and can see those from your profile view, but that’s a separate from saving an instructor... yet instructors only have 1 course? So do I subscribe to an instructor or enroll in a course? I can’t tell if My List is my instructors or my Enrolled, but they’re different lists. Not sure why they made this so hard. I just want to have all of my classes and progress in one place and not have to navigate around to resume when I jump from my computer to my phone. Seems like a fairly easy thing to configure... PLEASE update and make this more seamless!

App Makes This Impossible. The content and the aesthetic makes one think this will all work flawlessly, but this app fails at utterly basic functions. Even simply navigating the app and adding classes to my list is a tedious game of workarounds. Honestly, don’t buy a Masterclass pass until they fix this app; the frustrations made me wish I hadn’t activated it. Someone needs to teach a Masterclass on the basics of app development so the Masterclass team can watch it. The current app execution unfortunately fails those who put in time and effort to provide the content, and is a waste of time for those who attempt to view it. App devs, I beg you to embrace the challenge before you and make this at least more functional. Ask several people of differing age groups to try to use this and just watch them. Don’t help them; merely observe what they do and you’ll understand the most immediate missteps to correct, whether it be a bug or user experience (I suspect you’ll find both).

Very Well Done. I received this as a Father’s Day gift. After watching the previews for these classes, I was thrilled to get started. The classes I have tried so far have been very informative and enjoyable. Very high production values. The classes are able to do things visually that a regular class would struggle to deliver. The lecturers are top notch. The lesson lengths make it possible to squeeze in a class segment and enjoy the app even if you have busy schedule. It would be nice if the discussion groups and related class materials were accessible through the app. As as a life long student of life, I think the price is very reasonable for all you can access. I would like to see some classes dealing with arts such as painting as well as more in the areas of the nature, gardening, astronomy, fishing and life sciences. Thanks for a great experience.

Great 10/10. I love MasterClass I just think the idea behind it is perfect like you getting to learn from greats it tons of different categories. I am watching the Ron Finly MasterClass on gardening and I love it I have learned so much and specifically Ron Finly is funny and really makes me energetic and engaged in it (I’m saying please have him do another one). There are lots of good ones and some that are less good I really believe that it’s more on the person rather than what there teaching you because some of them are more showing you what to do and less talky while some talk a lot and show a little less, you just have to find who works for you and what way you learn. But overall if your thinking of getting it maybe do the trial and try the things and if you like it and your debating I would say definitely get it. PLEASE GIVE ME ANOTHER RON FINLY MASTERCLASS

Honestly a disappointment. I’ve been using this app daily for a couple of months and watched four sets of lessons. Content: The classes have been underwhelming. Yes it’s interesting to listen to a celebrity talk about what they do. However, the insights have been few and far between. Admittedly, I have read a ton of leadership literature, so maybe it’s no surprise there is nothing new in most lessons. IMHO this subscription’s value does not justify the high price tag. The money would be better spent on a good conference or several books. App: Despite the well-done graphics, the app is terrible. Navigation requires multiple more taps then should be necessary. Many users have pointed out that the app does not track your progress. Upon opening the app I have to tap My List (cannot be set as default), tap the class, tap See All Lessons, scroll down to the lesson I’m on (which I track separately), tap that lesson, and then tap play. I pointed this out to Support. Their response was that they are a new company— not even that they recognized the issue and would work on it! I will not be renewing after my year is up. Edit: As of Feb 2020 they have finally addressed lesson tracking by having a “resume” link on the opening page. So far, it appears to accurately take me to where I left off. This helps and I’ve raised my rating from 2 to 3 stars. My other comments still stand.

Absolutely grateful. I don’t write reviews often (ever). But I can’t believe what I have access to. The people you’ve gotten on here... it blows my mind. It blows my mind. How am I allowed to sit on my couch and glean from my heroes for chump change compared to the value that they are? I never imagined someone would be able to get these celebrity level professionals to share so candidly with me and others interested. Thank you for all the hard work on this. The video quality is beautiful too, excellent directing and helping even non actors comfortable stare into a camera lens. It’s a joy to watch and this app has absolutely brought my All-Access Pass to life. Thank you - Curtis Wiklund (from my wife’s phone b/c I don’t have an iPhone 😂)

Does Not Function. It used to work, now it doesn’t. Neither MasterClass or Apple support is any help and no refund will be given. They will take your money and leave you with a system that does not function. The app has not functioned for months. I stream it on my TV where I don’t have issues with any others streaming services. At the moment they ‘will be glad to get back to me’ when their engineers have diagnosed the problem. Meanwhile I paid for a product that doesn’t work and there is no fix or rebate in place. I am approaching two months since bringing their malfunctioning platform to their attention. I have been told multiple times that a ‘dedicated team’ is working on it. Been offered a free year of subscription for a streaming service that does not work. They will not refund my money and they will not make it work. At this point their goal is to train customer service in how to stonewall customers. They will take your money then lie to you as to why their streaming service does not work and why they can’t refund your money.

Not quite family friendly. It’s good content, enjoying it. Like the chapter format in smaller chunks of the ones I’ve seen so far along with interesting mix of current pros in their industries. But. I think the sessions may need to be rated G, PG, R as relates to swearing. I would expect it in some as half their professional schtick is obscenities but quite a bit of casual swearing is sneaking up on me AND not family friendly at that point and that’s too bad since nice to model life long learning and different passions/professions with youngsters. Minus free wheeling curse words. And yes I think a lot of humans are getting too basic in society with the cursing it just didn’t occur to me that a professional, commercial educational venture would be so basic. Will I still watch yes since it’s paid for but disappointed.

Apple subscribers cannot access web content. I signed up on my apple account only to find that I could not access the web content, which was significantly more features at the same price. On the website there is a screen to login and link an apple account but then I got an error. I contacted support and they basically explained that the web access for apple subscribers is limited and the account can’t be transferred. They advised to let my account lapse and renew on a new web account. This is was a lame and unhelpful answer so I chose not to renew. The content is excellent though. Update: I was quite pleasantly surprised when I got a message from MasterClass support many months after submitting my negative review saying they wanted to correct my my situation and offered some free subscription. But then they almost immediately closed the support ticket and never replied when I tried to reopen it. So, nothing has changed with MasterClass horrible customer support. THANKS FOR NOTHING!!! Again, don’t sign up on iTunes!!

Worth it!!! (not a bot too). This app is very educational. Yes it may be pricy with a $172 ALL ACCESS pass to 52 incredible creditable artists in their craft. But it’s such a reminder of college. There is a saying that it doesn’t matter what ivy name college you go to, what matters is the education and professors. That’s exactly what it is like, it is a well designed thought out way to dive into passionate people and understand what true dedication and effective tips and tricks that are normally taught but it comes from successful people. This all happens in one simple app that has about 15-20 videos per person. The video lengths are VERY reasonable and the topics “lessons” are very deep. I really hope this app does well, so more mentors and people can share their experiences. Thank you for making me love art and the beauty that lives inside of individuals....see what I did there ;)

Mixed bag of content; terrible UI. Let’s start with the app itself: it’s crap. Navigation is completely unintuitive; if you attempt to navigate the app while working out (a reasonable expectation) you’ll probably end up at some other random part of the lesson or in another class entirely; and a task as simple as returning to your stopping point in recently watched lesson is an exercise in guesswork. Please give this to a competent developer for a much needed overhaul. The content itself is all over the place. Some classes, like Walter Mosley on writing, are well structured, thoughtful, informative and inspiring. Others, like Lewis Hamilton on “a winning mindset,” seem like MasterClass just rolled a couple of cameras, asked a successful person to talk without much preparation, and hoped for the best. For the price, not bad, but there are serious flaws in both content and experience.

Please read!!!. This app in my opinion is awesome and although most of the reviews say that it is glitchy and laggy, it’s mainly because they are using MasterClass on chrome or safari, which is one exact reason to download the app for the best experience instead of having to log in every time you want to watch it. Another reason to get this app is because you can download classes or lessons and watch them on the road, travel by plane, or really anywhere. But another thing to be aware of is that it’s 12+ and I totally agree, if you’re a parent or simply a person that doesn’t like swearing, its language is very mild, so you won’t be hearing bleep bleep all the time. But overall I think the app is a must have since you can learn so much from it, I totally recommend this app and I promise you won’t regret it. Thank you for your time, have an awesome day.😀

Terrible App; Excellent Course. This app is an injustice to the course I am taking. Maybe 2 stars is harsh, but 3 stars is almost too kind. The app’s most egregious fault is when you download lessons. Not only is downloading too slow, it is unreliable, and worse still, if you re-start your phone, you lose all previous downloads, forcing you to start the (slow, unreliable) download process all over again. In effect, the app fills you with frustration and not learning. It distracts you from the serene beauty of the lessons it should deliver. Interface-wise, it looks good, and seemingly simple enough to navigate. What I don’t like is how it tries too hard to get you to look and see other classes. I just want to get to my class, and not be distracted by the other goodies. Last, but not least, it is a slow app. It lags behind my navigation choices. For example, nothing happens when I press download 3 times, and then too late after, 3 pop up options show up one after the other. Argh. Since I already paid for the class, I sure hope this app gets better.

Worth every penny. Is every class a gem? NO. Will you earn a degree in your field? NO. Does it replace going to school or just hunkering down and learning your craft. NO! But like any educational tool, you’ll get what you put in. Think of it less like classes and more like a convention panel or cornering your idol in a conversation about applied art or craft. It’s what TED Talks WANTS to be. Every artist is different. Some, frankly cannot teach. But you can’t go wrong with James Patterson, Sheila E., Neil Gaiman, Danny Elfman, Ramsay, Hans Zimmer, Tom Morello and many others. If full price is outside your budget, wait for the end of year BOGO sale and go in with a friend. Or if you have a friend with the service, they’re always giving out free month passes. But from there, it’s up to you to find the masterclasses that speak to you and inspire you to be better and do great work. This is one of the most practical and awesome gifts I’ve ever received to be perfectly honest.

Nice, but Needs work. For all the hype and marketing around this app - it doesn’t deliver everything. The good: the content is great! I absolutely LOVED Levar Burton, Christopher Voss, and so many others that made spending the time with this app absolutely worth it. The talent on this app is amazing and truly one of a kind. The bad: The upfront pricing is steep for what you get and what really annoyed me was that the content was exclusive to the app when I got it The ugly: The UI is terrible. For the price paid up front this UI is glitchy, it does a terrible job remembering where you left off last, it slow and laggy when I am just browsing through content, and worst of all I can’t find the simplest thing without going through all the lag. I’ve “completed” about 7-8 courses, none are marked “complete” because the app crashed out or I had to close it at certain points and the progress didn’t save properly at all when I went to return to the subject at wanted to continue learning from. I won’t be renewing my subscription mainly because the simplest things are a mess, but if you’re more patient than me, the quality of content is really hard to beat.

Some Integral Lessons Missing. I was super excited to sign up for an all-access pass. Bought, downloaded the app, signed up and ready to learn. Then... super disappointed to find that the advertised classes- specifically Ron Howard’s, one of the top-rated and recommended classes on here- has been condensed down and does not include some of the key lessons I was excited to take. If you’re expecting to learn how to stage with camera crew and actors, you will be let down. Of the 32 classes with Ron Howard that were previously available, according to MasterClass support, they have been “condensed” down to 13 classes that do not include important lessons in staging, casting, production design, working with cinematographers and several case studies. The condensed 13 lessons just touch on these so it’s like paying for a book and just getting to read the chapter summaries rather than getting to read the whole book. Thanks MasterClass- it seems misleading to advertise this and get people to sign up, only to find the thing they were looking for most has been “condensed”.

Fascinating!!!. This was worth the money if nothing else than to see and hear a great documentary. It’s really a story of Annie’s life and the evolving relationship she has had to her photography. So very well done from beginner nag to end. I watched it twice. Im a seasoned photo artist, but I both learned a lot and felt affirmed because photography is an art for her as it is for me. Inspiring. After this course, I have come to appreciate her work even more because I understand her more as a person. She is an amazing and delightful being. If you are into the technical aspects of photography, perhaps it will change a perspective for you, and if you are a photojournalist, maybe there is something longing in you to go past the reporting and into the artful composition of photography.

Doris Kearns Goodwin, US Presidential History and Leadership. I just finished Doris Kearns Goodwin’s masterclass. It was exceptional. As she has done for so many years, Ms Kearns Goodwin told such great, personal stories about critical moments in our nation’s history, but actually hearing her telling these stories in her own folksy kind of way was really neat And so pertinent to today’s political climate. I, like others, become depressed witnessing the lack of leadership in our country at a time when it is needed so badly. But every night over the past few weeks, this masterclass lifted my spirits. It gave me hope that in due course this country will once again be led by men, AND yes, WOMEN of great character. This work was truly inspirational. Ms Kearns Goodwin, thank you!

Incredible. I have a subscription to Great Courses which I also enjoy. However Great Courses is more about academic subjects such as history, science, and math. Great Courses emphasizes more hands on careers that require skill and art. I love how they recruit some of the most talented and successful people to teach these classes. Best teachers ever with great insights and plenty of stories and experiences to back up their points. I love watching these with my kids. My only complaint is that some of the teachers regularly use crude language to express their points. I wish there was an option to bleep foul language. As it is I don’t feel comfortable watching all the classes, especially with my kids. Hopefully MasterClass will offer a bleep feature in the future. It wouldn’t be hard to do. Anyhow, that is my ONLY complaint.

App is super buggy. I have no comments on the content yet as I haven’t been able to watch much. The app is very average, lots of bugs, drops out all the time, won’t load things, doesn’t save your progress... Once this is fixed I’m sure my star rating will be a lot higher.

Logging in is a nightmare!!. I can only login through Facebook because the “edit password” button on the website is merely decorative and doesn’t work. But here on the app, logging in through Facebook doesn’t work! Tried re-installing, tried everything. Great site, horrible app, horrible infrastructure.

Totally worth the money. It was really expensive for me as you have to buy the whole year instead of per month, so it’s pricy as a one off payment but it’s totally worth it. Especially during lockdown you get down & loosing energy to do things. This helped me a lot to get active again & learning new things gets me motivated. Super easy courses, sometimes you can also just use it as an audiobook & other times you can learn whilst watching.

App won’t work on my iPhone 12. It used to work fine but for the past 6 weeks have not been able to get the app to work. The website on my phone also will not work. Everything else on my phone works perfectly. Everything is updated. Despite multiple emails to technical support, I have been ignored twice and had to start a new support issue as when their normal protocols don’t do anything they simply stop responding and ignore me. The last support representative said he would escalate my case. That was weeks ago. Followed up twice - crickets… I have just submitted a new ticket. Have been using MasterClass for 3 years and previously submitted very happy review but very unhappy at this point in time as I am frustrated with lack of help from technical support.

Doesn’t Chromecast properly. A lot of money to spend when you can’t even view properly - some content refuses to Chromecast, other classes work fine. Inconsistent. Some excellent content, however new classes being added are favouring quantity over quality and are diluting the overall quality of the Master Classes on offer. Was much better 10months ago.

Good content, too many downsides. The content itself is great. But the videos so often won’t play - or they are playing but I get continuous pop ups saying it won’t play. Can’t watch videos offline. Too expensive, would be nice to have a monthly subscription option.

Learning from the world’s best at everything.. This is truly amazing. Was considering going back to uni to study something new. Then found Masterclass. Now I’m learning from some of the best economists, screenwriters and business leaders of our generation. What all online learning should strive to do - focus on the best content from actual experts.

Masterclass. So far so good. Have watched my first class Chris Voss. I am going to watch it again because sometimes you pick up things you didnt before.

Best investment. I always love documentary, but something that added value to your soft skills is rare to find, and this is a gem!

James Patterson Masterclass. I did the James Patterson masterclass and loved it! I got so much out of it, with tips all along the way for creating an amazing book. His humour, sprinkled gently through the class also made this a lesson which I wanted to keep clicking through from one chapter to the next, much like one of his books.

Extraordinary!. “Masterclass” per se is a concept that’s been thrown around, somewhat recklessly, on the net allot particularly by novice entrepreneurs who claim to have spontaneously acquired such passion and skills that the business world is blessed to have them and, of course, you may have them at an inflated fee, and be had. The Masterclass here is nothing of the sort. The lecturers here are the Jedi Masters of their craft. The analogy of the glass here is such that it is half full with wisdom, professional secrets and knowledge. The other half of the glass is a vacuum. This is the imperative half because ‘education’ doesn’t become realised unless you, the student, are fresh, passionate and fully drawn into it. These Masters are exceptional in that they know and use the force to humanise you into their mastery. Their presence is soulful and charismatic. The fee is a joke ‘cos it’s totally too cheap. Overall, it is extraordinary.

The best gift I’ve ever received. I am honestly blown away with Masterclass. The quality and content of the videos is amazing. I have learned so much in the first few weeks. This was a gift from my partner and I couldn’t be happier. Will definitely be renewing the subscription next year.

Absolutely brilliant in all the dimensions possible for any human to imagine!. Like the neurologist dealing with anything at their level or the basic commands for your dog who’s the best companion !Not trying to impose levels of importance, all I am trying to conclude with a point is that, this#Masterclass is an absolutely beautiful blessing for anyone and everyone who need any help !

Platform is terrible, it ruins the experience. Not syncing with Chromecast. The content seems to be good, but you can’t really really on learning because if you watch a class on your laptop you can’t pick it up where you’ve left and keep learning. It doesn’t sync with my brand new Chromecast either. I don’t know if I can but I will ask for refund, they need to build a Omni-channel and sort it our their technology

Poor app.. This app is horrible. Constantly skipping over episodes so I end up watching out of order. Playing multiple episode at the same time.. don’t know how that is even possible. Certainly expected a lot more for the subscription price. Content is hit and miss much more biographical/doco style content than strictly educational. Some master feel like they had a ‘class’ built as a after thought around an interview that makes them become lost and occasionally repetitive.

Be careful if you’re using the trial. I signed for trial and sent an email to cancel days before the week long trial ended. Then I got an email to say my subscription was renewed. Beware of any app that does not allow cancelation within the app or Apple. I haven’t heard back from subsequent emails yet, but I’m sure I will be battler to get the refund.

Epic.. Best app I’ve ever purchased. Insane value for money. I’m addicted. I’m learning and appreciating masters well beyond my usual interests, expanding my thoughts and areas of interest. You will not regret this purchase.

Classic Gordon. Gordon is one of my favourite chefs because of his genuineness, experience and skill. This master class has taken my love of cooking to another level.

If you like learning new things - highly recommend. An ocean of wisdom perfect for swimming in. Highly recommend this app for anyone who simply has a desire to learn something new. Honesty info from some of the best!

Too good to miss. This to me, is the best online learning experience. The people, the delivery, is perfection. I have even watched and learnt from the amazing people, in subjects that I wouldn’t normally be involved. Looking forward to the years ahead, watching and learning from the people in MasterClass is surreal. I feel so connected and inspired, their humility and generosity in what they share, is a gift, not only for the mind, but for the soul. Thank you!

Most amazing thing ever!. I didn’t know what to think when I first saw MasterClass. A little unsure but watching all the trailers and finding nearly 10 things I’d love to learn I signed up for the all-access pass and it has been well worth in. This is the most amazing way to learn and there isn’t the pressure with assignments. You can’t fail. Take it at your own pace and it is so helpful. Best thing I’ve done this year :)

Masterclass. Love the app and content however the downloads do not work making it extremely frustrating to learn on the go .

The content is excellent the user experience is not. Trying to connect this app to Chromecast is frustrating. Often the classes will skip an episode but show the class has been played. It’s a disappointing experience for the price paid.

Good App but issues with saving the downloaded classes. The app is pretty good but it has a big issue with the downloads. When you download many at the same time it will start re downloading some of them and also when you kill the app it would lose all the downloaded ones and re start again.

Anna Wintour Masterclass. This lady is a true inspirational leader, brimming with intelligence and above all, wisdom. Her master class gives you the most privileged access to her highly perceptive and expansive mind and to some of her professional strategies. What a feast for anyone whose environment does not provide them with much encouragement or inspiration. Thank you, so much, Ms Wintour.

Great content, terrible offline support. The content is excellent. But as many have noted, downloading lessons is basically a journey of frustration and disappointment. It's always unclear if something is actually downloading or not, and even when it appears to have done so, the playback typically fails. This makes it fairly useless for the times when I actually have free time to watch one - while on the commute, or on a flight. Fix downloads - both the user interface and the actual function - and it goes back up to five stars.

Great production quality but clunky app. Production quality is very good. The app on the other hand is incredibly glitchy and clunky. The overall experience could be greatly improved by the developers focusing on refining user experience.

American speakers focus. I don’t like that majority of the interviewees are American. There’s quite a lot of politics going on in the last 10 years and Americans are showing too much ego with anxiety in the interviews therefore I’d suggest Master Class look externally out of Australia to truely find the Masters instead of eluding to that Americans are all masters or I cannot recommend this app as it’s highly biased.

A boon for self directed learners everywhere. I am a quarter of the way into a year long subscription and my only downside is the knowledge that it will ever end. So much brilliant practical advice on every topic you can imagine. Masterclass you are the best of the internet age thank you! Would love if there was an option to donate a small fee towards a group giveaway of subscriptions to those in financial hardship.

Love it but cost wise. This app is an amazing tool and has been extremely helpful and a godsend. I believe people who may go to it most would be students at college or uni. That is the issue. Cost. For a yearly pass $180 is a great deal for everything but most people come for a particular corse and it is simply overwhelming cost wise. Either way the application is great would recommend unless you are tight on money.

Update doesn’t work. The update logged me out of the app and I’ve lost all my progress. Tried to reset my password but it told me to log in with Facebook. This also did not work. I then tried to request help but you can’t do that because you need to be logged in to request help. What a frustrating experience! Please test your updates before you implement them. If not resolved soon I will be requesting a refund.

Insightful and Inspiring. A brilliant idea, superbly executed. I am a business school professor. Ideas I’ve learned from these classes will make their way into my own presentations, be they from Neil Gaiman discussing how to craft stories or Itzhak Perlman working with youthful violinists to improve their performance.

Google Chrome Cast doesn't work well. The app works bad with Google chrome cast and it's impossible to watch a class fluently. I do use other apps that work fine with the chrome cast so it's not a device problem.

Misleading Name & Poor UX. High quality video, great concept, but not truly educational. This should be called “Interviews with famous people”, not Masterclass. Actual practical learning is few and far between - no downloadable tips or class notes. Also contains unnecessary language (unprofessional) - I want to learn and to be able recommend to younger people, not get cursed at. The UX of the app (and whole cross-platform experience) is not very well thought through. Bottom tabs are just poorly designed ways of accessing the same content. What about filtering and sorting by presenter or class title? Or searching by tags? Or grouping classes from different presenters with similar content, to reinforce the learning? What about watch history or the ability to search through the transcript? So much potential but so poorly executed. Also - plenty of times when the app or email marketing leads to 404 pages, which loses trust with users even more. Without fixes, I won’t be renewing this subscription.

Spoilt by the quality and the range. Wonderful range of topics with “best in class” leaders sharing their story, tips, techniques and encouragement. Premium service that truly delivers.

Love the programs. Incredible content Absolutely love everything about the people and what they talk about. App is a bit clunky when streaming to chrome cast using a mobile phone, from a laptop it’s a bit better but it’s not smooth as other streaming services

Very good value.. If I imagine getting all of these lessons separately there would be thousands of dollars spent. It is a very good price and most of the teachers seem to care a lot about the content they have submitted. Thanks.

Buyer beware!. I didn’t use the app as much as I wanted to and as such went to cancel my subscription. They said I still had a few months left on my subscription and they would remind me with 30 days to go that my renewal was due and I could cancel then. I decided that was fair and agreed. Today I received an email saying my subscription had been renewed (they did not send a reminder 30 days ago). I sent a complaint this morning and they responded with: So, I do understand that the fact we did not mention the renewal is frustrating, we will consider this feedback for future improvements. Now, in regards to the cancellation, if you do, you will not have access to all the content. I am furious as I have now paid and if I wish to cancel, I do not get refunded and I do not get to view the content for the next year EVEN THOUGH I HAVE PAID!!! Disgusting!

Inconsistent and slow. The content is good. Some better than others — it’s almost worth reviewing each class separately. The apps however, somewhat lacking, especially considering the cost. Browsing for a topic you might be interested in on the TV is impossible unless you know who the tutors are (or they’re holding a camera so they must be s photographer?). The phone app may be faster on newer phones but it doesn’t let me do anything until it’s loaded a video on the main page first. Which takes so long that I had to write a review instead. Courses are good, but access to features is spotty and it’s hard to tell if there’s more hidden course work (community and/or worksheets) or how to get to it.

Love MasterClass. Love MasterClass & so glad they have an app now! One feature that would be great would be the ability to change playback speeds as you can do in Safari. That would make the app even better.

No offline viewing. The only reason one would want this app is to be able to watch the videos offline, since the web interface doesn’t allow it. It doesn’t have that functionality, so it is nothing more than a pretty pass through interface to the content that you can already get through the web interface. If you want to watch the videos on the go, you will have to use mobile data. The app adds almost nothing to the experience. None of this is a comment on the class content, which I’m yet to go through properly ... largely because the only time the a can find to do it is when I’m commuting.

Great Classes Interface Needs Help Though. Classes are great and I’ve leaned a LOT. The interface is a bit clunky though and needs refinement to justify the price of membership.

Deadmau5 relaxed highly informative class. Joel goes through basic composition to equipment and just about all you’ll need.

Love Masterclass - worth to invest. I have just watched the former CEO of Walt Disney, Bob Igor, talk about his leadership style. I would say this platform is amazing as it enables me to keep my leadership muscles active by watching/listening to the best leaders around the world, their journey and the impact they have created. I love Masterclass.

Amazing content but app is buggy. Some seriously amazing people on this list. Very inspirational and educational. Production quality on the videos is great. The app however is pretty buggy especially around downloading for offline viewing. Otherwise if you’re streaming it’s pretty good. The interface is also slightly confusing and there are multiple ways to do the same thing; or maybe different things? I don’t know. Just feels like it needs some more user testing.

Money well spent. I’ve just renewed my membership (which says a lot, because I’m frugal AF). The quality of the classes and caliber of the teachers is like nothing else on the market. I’ve even learnt a lot from the classes in unrelated fields. I haven’t watched everything but highlights for me are Neil Gaiman’s class (honestly I could just listen to him reading his own work all day), Anna Wintour, Kelly Wrestler, Aaron Sorkin, Dan Brown and Sara Blakely. The classes are highly entertaining, I feel fully engaged watching them. I also love the lifestyle classes - cooking, cocktails, gardening etc. The diversity of instructors is also very good. Keep it up!

Great content. Below average app.. So far, the content is great. It has a true exclusive feel and I’m enjoying learning all kinds of new things. The app, however, is almost too annoying to let you enjoy the masterclasses. No autoplay of the episode or class, when you close your phone and accidentally open the app again the video plays from the start, and the offline download often doesn’t work. Fix these things and I’d be much more likely to recommend an all-year pass.

Poorly supported. The app is very frustrating to use. Casting to google chrome doesn’t work and the tech support has been utterly tedious and patronising. Content often won’t load and errors, even with phone restarts and fresh installs. The gimmicky swipe functionality is silly. Just allow for browsing the classes and solid ability to stream and cast. Pretty annoying to have this after the price tag, not to mention being bombarded by endless Masterclass ads online.

MasterClass. My name is Avnika and I am nine years old. I was given a masterclass gift from my uncle. I took the device and started to explore the experience. I am currently watching episodes of Diane Von Fustenburg and also Marc Jacobs. I am also looking forward to seeing Samuel. L Jackson. I love the character he plays in Avengers (Nick Fury).

Fix your app!. The app is so bad. It’s slow and hard to navigate. I’m often closing the app completely just to make my way back to where I started. I can’t find the “resources” section which it refers to. Aside from that, the classes themselves are amazing and so insightful

Don’t trust the free trials. Don’t trust the free trials they advertise because they will charge you within the first hour of the free trial for a paid subscription. I clicked through a Facebook ad claiming a 30 day free trial and then had to argue through PayPal to get my money back when they charged me for the entire year within an hour of signing up for the free trial. Well, since I had only signed up for a free trial and wasn’t planning to purchase any of their paid subscriptions, my account didn’t have the $240 CAD they put through. So in the meantime while they’re taking their sweet time to get back to PayPal and refund the money, I have suffered $96 in NSF fees I can’t afford as a disabled mom of a disabled child living on disability stipend already struggling to get by as PayPal puts the already contested charge through my account multiple times. This company rips people off, has caused immeasurable harm to me through these greedy actions, didn’t refund the NSF fees they caused, and clearly doesn’t care about the harm they’re causing. Don’t let them do it to you, don’t bother with them.

Worst Subscription Process. I have been using this app over two years and up to this point enjoyed the content. The renewal process to renew your subscription is awful and one of the worst that I have experienced. The app charged my credit card $328 CDN but when I log on it says I need to renew my subscription when the apple App Store shows I paid. I have been dealing with their customer support dept via email because there is no phone number to call anyone. It has been a week and I have given them all of my email proof of payment, screen shots they requested and still no fix. Now they are asking me what videos I watched to confirm my account ? Really ??? You would think with the amount of money they charge you they would have a great support system but this is pure Greed. Take the money but don’t care about the customer experience. Maybe the developers should watch some of their own videos on MasterClass on how to build a better customer support system. SAVE YOUR TIME and find alternatives to this!

Privacy concerns. For how much MasterClass charges for a subscription it is quite upsetting that they use any information for cross site tracking and marketing purposes. I expected better and will probably not renew until the app stops using my data to track me.

Good but.... The prices to keep up is so stupidly expensive, I would’ve been okay with $100 or less but sheesh

Annual Billing Periods. There’s no reason to force this period other than you don’t believe that users will renew after a month.

More diversity please. Just bought the full package. The first thing I noticed is you need to have more diverse women of colour please in the writing category for people like me. There are actually a lot of them out there in the publishing world now. Thanks.

Far too expensive🤦🏼‍♀️. A single class for $120 or full access for $240... either way, it’s INSANE to expect that much money, especially for only one year access!!! I’ve read other reviews stating the same thing and saw the developers reply there’s mini videos from the authors, but I can’t find them, so it leads me to believe that’s just a standard response so you don’t have to say anything at all! After looking through the lists, I have however found, many of the classes are less than 10 minutes... sorry but I don’t believe it’s possible to get any real learning accomplished in 4-10 minutes, regardless if it’s in a total of 10-25 lessons... Some of the titles make it look like the class will be so in-depth but how can you teach the depth of “how to write a book” in only minutes? I would have really thought about it if it wasn’t so ridiculously priced!

App is awful. The content itself is good so far (I’ve only had it for a few weeks) but the app is not very advanced. I don’t find that the navigation is user friendly and there doesn’t seem to be an option to turn off the automatic title narration that happens in audio mode. There is no option for deleting downloaded content after listening/watching and sometimes the app just stops playing on its own. There’s a long way to go with this app.

Sucks not free even though they say its free. It says free vids etc. You have to pay for access to everything👎🏼 better off on youtube lol

Chrome cast. I am not able to connect to my chrome cast

It’s a documentary, book and a podcast in one. I read many reviews that complained about the pricing, but then I though: “how much money have I spent on famous memoirs, inspirational audiobooks and documentaries over the years”. MasterClass is all of that in one. An instructional video with bits of personal information and engaging storytelling. And the variety of subjects available keep my constantly wondering mind engaged. Bonus: possibility of expensing this through the company learning fund. Can’t wait to see what new classes will be added.

Need improvement. Charge extra to download episodes on an already hefty annual subscription is asinine. The app is slow and not user friendly imo. Classes are more like history class but still have some value. I will not pay for another year. Overall I would not recommand unless you have extra money laying around. Its not bad, but its not good either.

Nice service terrible app. This app is so poorly made from a UX point of view. All u need to know is that after you spend time downloading all your videos to watch on a flight, the app tells you that there is no internet connection (obv) but you can click the ‘my downloads’ link displayed to watch those episodes. Link isn’t linked and tapping it does nothing. No other way to access my downloads. Master-fail.

The classes are fine; the app is not. Instead of starting the next lesson at the beginning after one lesson ends, it’s been starting midway through the second or third lesson after. This is especially frustrating when I’m doing something else and just listening. There’s also no button to go to the previous lesson (which would be nice even if it wasn’t skipping lessons). Navigation is poor both on the app and on the web. I’m not actually happy about having to use an app on mobile in the first place, although I guess it allows you to download a lesson to listen off line. I’d rather just use a browser. Also, I could really do within the Daily Moments because bombarding me when I open the app. Can the app just open to the library? I’m not going to watch some random snippet of a class like that. I get it, you want to promote your content but just back off.

Best 13 dollars I’ve spent this month!. I’m one day in and I’m in tears of joy. There’s so much wisdom packed into these pages, punchlines, and video I’ve already had a breakthrough on getting un-stuck about something I’ve been stuck on for a decade. Bravo MasterClass!

I had it for one year.... It is expensive like heck and they make it so hard to cancel the membership that it drives me crazy. I do NOT want to pay one more year a subscription as expensive as Netflix or other services that give me just as valuable content... and I can not cancel my subscription. Can you believe that? So expensive and it keeps wasting my time... And did they say you can download content for watching off-line. Yeah. They let you download in the app, but ONLY A FEW CLASSES. NOT ALL AND NOT THE MOST INTERESTING. Yeah, copyright and ship... Awful! And expensive.

I want more!. It’s fun and I’m always disappointed when the class finishes

Not worth the price. They dont have enough mentors. Please return my money barely used it for 3 times.

Amazing. If you're interested in learning a new skill or gaining more knowledge on a specific topic, MasterClass is an excellent app to use. It offers a variety of lessons on art, sports, music, finance, and leadership, so there's something for everyone. I've used this app many times and have found each lesson to be well made and informative. I highly suggest giving it a try.

Content: AMAZING! App: TERRIBLE. If you’re connected to the internet all the time you’ll probably have a great experience. But if you’re on the road or in a place with bad internet, the app makes it almost impossible to engage. I spent hours downloading a a few classes worth of episodes, but then when I open the app in the evening all my downloads are gone, even though the iOS says masterclass is taking up over 2GB of space. So the videos are there, just the app makes it impossible to access them. What makes it more frustrating is their licenses don’t let me downloaded lessons on my computer to view reliably. You’d think with how expensive their subscriptions are they would at least be able to develop a stable app. I was very excited to watch a lot of classes this year, but this broken app is going to make it very difficult to do so.

Terrible subscription process - disappointing !. Would love to watch the classes, looks like great content, but in the middle of the 2020 lockdown most of us don’t have an extra $250 lying around. It would be awesome if I could subscribe monthly like every other service on the planet, and pay the $20 a month. Seems pretty greedy to only offer a yearly subscription at that inflated of a cost.

Can’t cast. I love the classes, but since a couple vr updates ago, the casting stopped working

Overpriced!. I really wouldn’t waste your time or money.. it’s just celebrities ripping you off when the average family has little cash flow from the lockdowns. But at least the rich stay rich.... lol It’s also a broken app... downloads don’t work. It says it does but if you are offline you won’t be to access them..

Many classes for free elsewhere. I paid for a year thinking the classes were exclusive. I really like one about yoga and search for a book from the teacher at the library. What I found was the exact same class for free on Hoopla! Update: I found many classes elsewhere for free.

Price vs Quality. Considering how much we have to pay for this, it's pretty unreliable. I was shocked when I downloaded content then found it wasn't available and was no longer downloaded when I wanted it. The app also lacks solid functionality, it's not as intuitive or easy as you'd think (again, at the price paid you'd think it'd be better.) I'll also say lesson quality can be hit or miss: Annie Leibovitz and Jimmy Chin for example teach photography, but Jimmy's is far more helpful.

Worst app design.. People who rated the app for 5 star for this version apparently unintelligent.

Excelente App. Excelente App

Nice but too expensive for what it is. I enjoy watching MasterClass, but the price is too high for the value. The videos are between the formality and depth of academic courses and the lightness and appeal of YouTube videos, not achieving either. They are well executed, but without the emotion or engagement I was expecting. You end up with something “nice” that I would probably not watch if it was free. Take the Tony Hawk videos: they’re more self promotion than a course. You’ll get a high level overview of skating, but without any depth, making it impossible to act on. On the opposite, the negotiation video is riveting, but you don’t get much more than you would get in the first chapter of a self-help book.

MasterClass The Song 📜🪩📑. 🦅🦅🦅 🦅 👩‍🏫🧑‍🏫 - Teacher, teacher can you teach me, can you tell me what I need to know? Thanks to MasterClass, I’d say so! Master, Master …it’s the Class instruction that I’ve been after …laughter, laughter, laughing as I learn. 🎙🎸🎶 😎📻 Oye Como Va! Whatever your interest - MasterClass will turn you into a student 🥷 Anchor down! ⚓️🎸 Kucho 💋

Don’t subscribe. Once you cancel your membership, you cannot get away from their notices - they just keep coming. Wish I never paid for this subscription

Way too expensive. Lower your prices and maybe a few free trials and you'll get my money for a class not for more than 200$ il just stick to watching Gordon Ramsey on YouTube for free

Content is great - app is horrible.. The lessons are amazing, but the app is absolutely terrible. Impossible to watch the lessons using the app, you can’t keep track of where you are in the lesson let alone even start. Never seen an app so poorly designed for user experience

Do not subscribe. They are making it so difficult so cancel that in the end it is just a scam

Love the content but app is very buggy. The content is incredible. However, the app itself is very buggy. Example, when you exit the app, it cannot pick up where you left off but some random session will be defaulted. So you have to go back to the session you want/left off and figure out how to play from there. Otherwise, a random session will play instead.

just sad. it’s a good product with tons of useful content but it feels like the app was made overnight by someone vaguely familiar with app development. tons of bugs and i get new ones every time i open the app.

WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. No. You will have to pay 119$ for ONE VIDEO. I was excited to learn, but when I opened the video, kept telling me to PAY. I should’ve read the review first. No offense ✌️🇨🇦

Not actual teachings, spotty application functionality. I found you don’t actually learn anything. It’s more of story time with these celebrities. Additionally when you’re watching the episodes, the play next feature skips the next one and jumps 2 ahead making it an annoyance to circle back. The app also stops working randomly

Good content but App is brutal. The courses are very well produced, but the app itself is very frustrating to use and needs serious improvement for user experience. It constantly kicks you out of the class you are viewing and starts playing the wrong class. It is difficult to navigate, such as selecting an earlier episode within a course you are watching.

Limited Content & Few (No) Updates. Making a good learning app is really difficult. These guys have nailed the marketing, nailed production, but fall pretty much flat on content and value: it’s the same issue that many universities face - experts in the field are not necessarily experts at teaching their field. So far, I’ve found one course that was enjoyable, but even there, the content was minimal. The rest was entertainment. You’re basically paying for a pseudo-candid look into the world of some experts. The fact that it isn’t actually a candid peek into their world kills much of the value and makes this feel more like buying a pop culture magazine. All in all: has potential, but needs a lot of work on the content and UX side of things — generally the hardest elements to get right for learning apps. Would *not* recommend paying for this service.

I'm rating the app, not the program. Love the courses and sessions. But when I try to use the app to send feedback it says I don’t have a email installed on the device even though it’s right there in the settings. Two menu items overlap it on the screen in fact. The feedback is that the mini video viewer in the latest update (Mar 2024) doesn’t seem to have an off button and it’s quite annoying floating there in the middle of my screen when I’m trying to scroll through the library and such. I would never want to watch the mini screen while scrolling the course list so I’m not sure why it’s there. Is it a glitch?

Great. Amazing content!! Their tech side (the platform, app, organization) is a bit lacking. Exploring programs seems chaotic. At least they just got more profiles (you used to have to share a profile with all your users). Overall though it’s very worth it.

Many lessons are more like interviews. If I had an option to try before buying, I wouldn’t have purchased it. The classes I watched so far are more like interviews, not much practical application or anything unique that is not on google for free.

Worth your money if you want to be a writer. I purchased the full access option and listened to all of the writing classes while at work. PURE GOLD

Meh. In my opinion Masterclass needs modernization. Work books and app should be symbiotic. No out of app video overlay. There is wisdom and perspective within the material but nothing unique to what you already find for free online. If the work books were done better and in better conjunction to the teaching, then the cost would make sense. I feel like the structuring of plans and benefits is slimy outdated marketing as well. Alongside that, when I found Masterclass, it was marketed as if membership was available/charged monthly, however it’s only available in a annual payment. It’s not made obvious by any means when checking out, so buyer beware. You only have 20 minutes of watching before you forfeit your refund. I did many courses fully. And in different fields of interest. All in all, I don’t feel I got my moneys worth.

doesn’t work with chromecast. They removed the feature for iOS app to cast to chromecast

Totally worth it!. Best money I’ve spent this year. In my first month I completed four full classes. Fascinating even listening to the Daily Moments. But if I could enhance my experience in any one small way… it would be to lock out the screen when I’m doing a class. I seem to always click (on a daily basis) to close my episode off - or change classes altogether - without even barely touching anything. Maybe in month two I’ll figure out a better methodology. Keep then coming!

Almost No Science Content. I purchased to watch Chris Hatfield, expecting more similar shows. Instead is virtually all arts based. I will not be renewing my subscription.

Has potential. But the price is crazy. Way too much competition and alternatives to be this expensive (and the misleading ads to get you to download the app are a bit douchey). I deleted it already.

No satisfaction, can’t use on the go.. Single membership is a trap. You can not enjoy the product on the go. The listen only mode consumes same traffic as video mode. One lesson consume almost 1 gb of data. Downloading of the content is not available. In order to download it , you have to upgrade subscription for duo and it doubles the cost. There is no suggestion of classes. There is no logical navigation in the app. It was a very good idea in the beginning with amateur implementation . Look at Spotify and learn how the app supposed to work. Very disappointing.

Love it. Great content and perfectly produced! High quality video and user interface! Well worth the price!

It’s a party with the best in the world. Master class, for me, is like being at a party with all of these brilliant experts, and walking around to each of them, and not only receiving off-the-cuff advice (stuff they don’t normally share in their corporate polished speeches it seems like) but also getting to know them on more of a personal level. Understanding what they might be like to hang out with for a couple of hours. Some of the instructors are better at it than others but those who do it well, make this experience invaluable to me!

Painful to cancel. This app and the subscription is painfully frustrating to cancel. I was given a year as a gift, but you have to give a credit card in order to activate. At a year, I want to cancel, but you can’t cancel through your settings>subscriptions like most other things you can subscribe to, and there is no way to cancel it in the app. Instead, you have to contact them directly via email, get someone to reply to you, and the. get a customer support person to cancel the subscription by providing them background, email, credit card number, expiration date. It’s like the old magazine subscription where they make it such a pain to cancel that they likely get a fair number of resubscriptions purely from people not being able to cancel on time.

Great content, terrible app. By all means, get the all lesson option. But be prepared for difficulty with the app. Navigating through the app is difficult. Example: I am watching lesson four. Suddenly my video jumps to lesson five and just as suddenly it’s on lesson six. I get stuff stopped. Now I want to go back to lesson four. But on the app I have no option to go back. So I’ve given up on the app and gone to the web browser which is somewhat easier to navigate. The developers have put a lot of work into creating content. Now it’s time for them to sit down with their customers and discover what difficulties users are having. Also, their tech support responds quickly and is a plus. But communicating by email is not the most satisfactory way to solve app negotiating issues.

Alice Water’s is a National Treasure. I am a creative. Or at least I thought I was. We own a murals company in Franklin, TN that has been in business for over 31 years. We deal in creativity every single day. However, as I have watched Alice Waters exude this warmth and senses opening classes I’ve been exposed to a whole new world in how I see my food. It’s a level of creativity I never knew existed. As I sit here in the studio with her classes playing in the back ground I have the doors wide open on this 72 degree day and all I want to do is go outside and plant something that I will be excited to cook. Thank you Alice Waters for opening my eyes. (Haha - no pun intended - from the owner of a “visual” arts company.)

Horrible service. Their service was Horrible and service person incompetent. it appeared he never read or understood what the issues were, ie, I paid the annual membership fee in November for two, created my login account, and was billed. When I was ready to take classes: ballet, business, & cooking: the system continuously routed me to pay for another membership over and over again. Contacted customer service numerous times via email and phone but nothing good happen to resolve the problem. By The end of December, I gave them the ultimatum to fix it or cancel my membership. They canceled my membership instead of fixing the problem. Not good business practices! I thought that would be the end of it since I took my info off of their contact list. It’s January I’m writing this review because now, they have the nerve to contact me for another membership. REALLY...

learn from the best of the best!. I've learned so much from the courses I've taken on MasterClass, and the lessons I've learned have had a real impact on my life and career. Whether you're interested in cooking, writing, music, or any other topic, there's something for everyone on this app. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my experience. It's an investment that's truly worth making for anyone who wants to learn from the best and be inspired to achieve their goals. I highly recommend this app to anyone who's looking for top-quality education and the chance to learn from the best of the best.

Extreamly Annoyed, Slow to Load if at All. I paid for the full year, was really excited about the content for sometime and have given it a lot of thought on whether or not to sign up, so today I did. However I’m not impressed with the App, for a moment I thought it was my WFI, nope. Then I turned my IPad on and off, nope not that either. After trying to figure out what was the problem, it came down to the fact this App is not able to live up the quality of the classes that are offered, sad really. I gave the App two stars, the content I love, I will just use the internet to view it on, it’s just sad this app is not cable to live up the potential that it offers. Let me know when the problems you having with the App are corrected and I would be happy to change my “Star Ratting” to what it should be a 5.

Teaching. The process of teaching through such a medium and be difficult. As I’ve observed dead mau5 and hanz Zimmer explain their respective crafts and their individual styles it takes me back to a day in high school listening or watching these creations for the first time. I’ve always enjoyed the arts and watching these people perform is inspiring to say the least. From film to cooking each name brings a new perspective to the chopping block. My only interest now is weather you will be able to contact a hip hop artist with the same insight. Keep up the great work guys, I look forward to watching this evolve.

Great Content, Subpar App. The classes in here are awesome. It’s the best aggregation of content from mentors if this caliber out there. I use it on my phone and my Apple TV. Three updates to the app NEED to happen: 1. A simple “continue watching” on the home screen. Whenever I’m in the middle of a series, I have to go find the class again after I’ve closed the app! Seems obvious to me, especially since I don’t add every class I’m watching to “my list.” 2. The download feature fails all the time. It seems to just not download. I’m on an iPhone 11 Pro on Wi-Fi and the downloads just never happen. I need to download them for bandwidths sake which leads me to my third point... 3. Audio mode should only be streaming audio, not the video as well and then just hiding the video. The app used 4.6Gb of data for a few lessons that I only used in audio mode (I don’t use video on my phone). I had to stop using it unless I had them predownloaded. This should be an easy fix by pointing to a different stream, but would be so helpful!

Tried it, won’t go back.. Had a year of masterclass, and enjoyed many of the courses. However, in that year my credit card expired and was reissued, a normal process. Nowhere in the app UI was there a process that could handle this simple matter. When I went to their website and WAS actually able to find an “add a card” process, it didn’t work. I tried a couple cards, and got an error every time. So I called the help desk. Their response? “Make a new account with a new email address.” Thanks but no thanks, how about you fix your app and website? It’s 2022, not 1992. I also agree with so many others regarding Bill and Hillary. Seriously? I’m a centrist/liberal democrat, and seeing those two included on the platform devalues it for me. I’m out.

Love my cooking classes.. I bought this for my husband who loves wines and I thought we could learn a bit about wines tasting from James Suckling. It turns out that his course is the least instructive and we are skipping around to find a lesson that actually teaches something. That being said, we moved on to Gordon Ramsey and couldn’t be more thrilled! I’m a serious home cook and I find his lessons fantastic and Ramsey, a great and inspiring teacher. Alice Waters is good but not that instructive. Is see their adding more Chefs and I’m pleased. Checking out Anne Leibovitz and other areas of interest. Not enough time in a day. MasterClass is beautifully done and a fantastic way to explore interests.

I really like it, but only some content. It is really cool to have such big names sharing their experience with you at such a reasonable price. I feel some of the content is rather filtered down and may be missing some info that would be taught in a traditional class, though it seems dependent on the instructor. I feel that it is worth a try if interested. I don’t know how long I will keep my membership, as there is only a limited amount of content that I am interested in. Also, the videos have some playback issues. Like hitting the back 15sec button may sometimes skip ahead several videos. UX in this area could benefit from moderate improvements.

Dishonest subscription payments. Last year I bought my girlfriend a subscription as a gift after seeing an ad for gift subscriptions. I was surprised to see they charged me to renew the subscription this year. As it was a gift they should not assume you want to keep paying for someone else. I tried to cancel the subscription in the mobile app, it told me to go to the website to do so, then the website told me to go back to the mobile app. There doesn’t seem to be any way to cancel a subscription without contacting them. I contacted them the same day to request a refund and they tried to just give me 50% of my money back. I insisted on the full refund and eventually they gave it to me after wasting my time. We then realized that they had also charged my girlfriend to renew her ‘gift subscription’ from last year. It seems dishonest that they require someone you gifted a subscription to enter their credit card details and then assume they also want to renew. My girlfriend then had to waste her time going through the same process, contacting their support, being offered 50% refund etc.

Truly outstanding and expertly done. I signed up for Master Class to get access to Aaron Franklin’s BBQ course. The course was outstanding and worth the entire year’s membership. That said, I’ve gone on to do classes by Chris Voss on negotiation skills, Neil De Grassse Tyson on critical thinking, Gordon Ramsey on cooking skills, Sara Blakey on entrepreneurship, and more. Every single one of them were exceptionally done, and worth their weight in gold. I so wish I had access to something like this when I was a young man because I guarantee it would have supercharged my success. I cannot say enough good things about Master Class. It’s a no brainer. I’ve also just gifted a year’s membership to my daughter.

Chris Voss - Brilliant!. Absolutely riveting! I love how Chris Voss builds your knowledge with each class and by class 16 🤯 I hit the stratosphere. The hostage negotiations demos had me completely stressed. Chris Voss is brilliant in his execution. By far, THE BEST most useful class I’ve taken in years. And mind you, I’m a retired military photographer who purchased MasterClass to study Annie Leibovitz. Love her but I got my monies worth with Chris Voss. If I have to watch his class a 100 times I will. I’m going to master what he’s taught here. This class completely captivated my attention and changed my mindset. Chris Voss please, please, Please do a 2nd MasterClass! I’m in awe, wow!

VERY DECEPTIVE COMPANY. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE!!!. I took out the subscription figuring there was nothing to lose as they offer a 30 day money back guarantee. Within a few days I decided it wasn’t for me, so I approached them for a refund. They told me they couldn’t do the refund as I subscribed through Apple, and that I needed to contact Apple. So I contact Apple and they advised me that they don’t honor money back guarantees. I appealed this with Apple, but no success. I contacted masterclass again, and they just refer me to fine print: “ I understand you are disappointed about the refund but I am unable to proceed the refund as your purchased was completed through Apple's system, your purchase is subject to Apple's Terms of Service, and MasterClass will not be able to process any refunds or extensions for purchases processed by Apple per Section 3.3 of our Terms of Service .” I can certainly be accused of not reading all the pages and pages of the Terms of Service. But I feel this is incredibly deceptive of masterclass, to hide behind this fine print. THEY KNEW THAT APPLE WOULDN'T REFUND ME. They need to make it clear and transparent that they don’t give you the 30 day money back guarantee.

Scam. I am so disappointed because MasterClass is so misleading. I initially was so enthusiastic about the product when I heard about it and rushed to subscribe. One major reason I was disappointed about it all was that they advertise online; all over social media, a 30 day free trial and proceed to provide the subscriber with 3 different plan options. One being 15/month which is what I thought I was consenting to as I’m just one person. Seems fair, right? Wrong. They immediately charged me the $194 and some change after having me believe I had subscribed to said plan. It’s so unprofessional and unethical- it is the worst feeling. It has caused me so much anxiety in just a span of minutes. I wish I had nothing to do with MasterClass at all! I’ve already canceled the subscription because I absolutely don’t want a renewal. I’m disgusted by their deceitful actions.

Refund Issue. I reached out to Master class support for a refund. I received it as a gift in 2023, I did not find a email in Nov, of them letting me know I would be charged $252 for the annual membership. When it charged and I reached out to support ten days ago, they assured me I would have my money back. I asked for help many times, i am sick and in need of the money taken from me. After the business days when my money should be back I saw nothing, i reached out to support and tried to contact all the people I could to help me. Their tech support is the opposite of support, I have not received my money back at all. No calls, no emails, etc. i will not be coming back even if I receive this as a gift. I had an awful experience with this platform. I wish I never had this as a gift.

Enjoy but a suggestion for emails. I received a gift subscription last Christmas and have been enjoying this. While I don’t think I’ll be renewing, (not a time to be spending the money and have seen all the ones I have wanted to, plus you lost me by giving any kind of Kardashian a course) my biggest suggestion is on the emails you send out. Because of past hacking issues, I don’t open emails from names I don’t know. When you send emails on new courses, you send them from “the teacher” and not from “Masterclass”. You have many courses in categories I’m not interested in by people I am unfamiliar with so when a random email from an unknown name comes into my inbox I just delete it before opening. The only reason I know these are from masterclass at all is either because I happen to catch an email summary before deleting. I suggest sending out your emails FROM masterclass and not random names. I had this issue with other companies as well and just unsubscribed from them. Once you’ve been hacked, you get a bit squeamish on opening unknown emails.

The content is great, the app is not there yet. The most common action in the app is going back to view the current list. The default page doesn't include the list u listen too but a discovery function. That is very frustrating and time consuming to navigate out of a default page Everytime. Second, even in the home tab where recent videos are, it's not really saving my last location and video. Randomly when I go back to the app it either saves the last video or shows me previous ones. It's also very hard to track which ones were completed and heard and which ones weren't. It would be great if there will be a better user experience and flow and an easier way to mark something as completed.

Content is great but app is horrible. I have had a subscription for almost two years and would have renewed for a third if it weren’t for the terrible app. The app is full of bugs, and I have wasted many hours of my life corresponding with tech support and following their instructions, only to get new error messages. A few examples: I opened the app to watch a course and was prompted to update the app. I did. Suddenly it said I had to renew my subscription (good for two more months) and wouldn’t let me access any content. When I followed the steps from tech support to fix it, I got another error message (status: failed). I downloaded a class to watch on a plane. When I opened the app to watch, and clicked the link to watch, nothing happened. I was never able to open anything. When I have managed to watch downloaded classes in the past, a giant banner that says “NO INTERNET ACCESS” stays pinned to the screen the entire time, blocking content. There is no way to turn it off. That has supposedly been fixed, but I wouldn’t know since I can no longer open classes offline. The content is great. But I have lost faith as the company does not seem interested in investing in the user experience.

Auto renews without notification. I gave this service as a gift last year to a family member. They required me to buy a subscription to gift one, which made some sense as they were selling them two for the price of one. So I bought a year so I could gift a year to the person who wanted it. MasterClass renewed it for another $192 without ever notifying me that they had signed me up to auto renew without consent or when it would renew. I cannot get any help from MasterClass. The gift recipient is now also being hit up for another $200 to continue his subscription. This service is an overpriced auto-renewal with no support. I can not recommend running from it strongly enough. Just listen to podcasts and spare yourself the headaches.

Master Class has exceeded my expectations!. At first I was skeptical of the quality of the classes and how they would be delivered. Then I saw Ron Howard as an instructor, I thought that this may be legit. But then what tripped my trigger was Chris Voss has a class. I’ve attended a Chris Voss presentation and know what he is capable of teaching, I wanted to learn more from him. I purchased the subscription and it is worth every penny...but only if you apply the lessons. I would have given this review 5 stars if only I could save the down loads to my iCloud account like I do iTunes. Go ahead and pull the trigger on this subscription, you will be very glad you did!

Waste of time and money. I bought the Annie Liebowitz class where she “teaches photography.” I was really hoping to get her perspective on the technical aspects of photography. Lighting, lenses, studio setup, you know, a class. Instead what you get is not much more than an evening with Annie Liebowitz. This could have been edited down and played on PBS or maybe a TED talk. The class on lighting can be summed up as “I like natural light.” The class on studio photography can be summed up as “I don’t like working in a studio.” The “assignments” for the classes were about as good. Cut out a picture you like and hang it up somewhere. Take a picture of someone at three different times throughout the day. Those were literally two of the assignments. If this were an episode of fresh air with Terry Gross I’d have given it 4 stars. It wasn’t not interesting. It was not, however, a class worth $90.

Buyer beware. Be careful of their billing policies and customer service. I didn’t realize I had an old account set to a no longer used email address and they were auto renewing my subscription. I only caught it when glancing at my credit bill. After speaking to customer service, explaining and proved it was unused service and didn’t realize it was auto renewal set by default (a deplorable business practice). So if if subscribed, be sure to opt out right away for billing and save your headache and avoid being ripped off. Btw, I post this only after trying for 1 week through various polite emails to request exception to their “too bad” business policy since it’s expensive and they still refused to honor my request for refund.

Such a waste of money. I’m not renewing. It is remarkable that they got such big names involved, but since the teachers are all at the top stratosphere of their professions, most of the teachers do not care about presenting clear, actionable steps to getting to their level, and instead are just there to be a big name person and ramble about whatever they feel like rambling about to fill up their contractual obligation of time to get whatever big paycheck they probably don’t even need. There are a few exceptions, like Shonda Rhimes, she seemed to genuinely want to present clear, actionable steps to writing for TV, but a lot of the other teachers just were blabbing away about their own fortunate moments in their careers. I wish this had been a monthly subscription so I could have cancelled it without sinking nearly $200 to listen to self indulgence.

Genuinely Very Good. The content here is really excellent, I’ve been watching the music production classes from Timbaland and Deadmau5 and both are amazing, even though those two have totally different approaches they’re equally fascinating and I learned a lot from both. From watching bits and pieces of others I can tell the quality is consistent. It’s definitely expensive, but the value you can get is massive because it can really inspire you and at the same time give you some specific and unique insights into how experts go about their craft. It’s like having an internship with these people. Outstanding, gotta try it to believe it.

Think I got bait-and-switched. Was told you get a 7 day trial offer, but there’s already a draw on my account for the second day. I was planning a year-long subscription anyway (less than the price of 2 classes, which is a great deal), so I’m not too upset, but for anyone else looking into the trial, just be aware that it might charge you. Maybe the dev can clear up anything I’m missing. Other than that, great app, great content, and offline use! Nothing too complain about! 15 Minutes Later: There’s a bunch of lessons that aren’t available offline, such as Sam Jackson’s acting class. And I’m not sure if it’s worse that there’s a 10 video download limit anyway. Why? What if I’m going to be somewhere that doesn’t have internet for a few days and I won’t be able to download more videos once I’m finished watching the first 10?

Too Expensive. There are so many classes I would love to take on this platform, but it’s too expensive. I hope that the people in charge provide more membership options that can provide people more opportunity to join. A good example would be monthly plans between $1-$15 and/or have people pay like $1-$5 for individual classes. Paying annually isn’t something that everyone can do. Even though each class provides a trailer, some people may not find it useful or just not like it all. After all, movies have trailers that look good and turn out to be horrible when they come out in theater. I wouldn’t want to pay hundreds of dollars for classes that may not be suitable for my interests. If the purpose of this platform is to help and inspire everyone, then make it accessible for everyone.

Classes: Good, App: Awful. The classes on Masterclass are (mostly) good, when you can watch them, but the app tries very hard to make sure you can’t. I have been using it for months and it is constantly bugged and crashing, while the customer support is nonexistent I’ve tried to contact customer three times: twice I never got a response and the third it took two weeks to get a response, which was just a link to the FAQ, which did not help in any way. I’ve tried through the website as well and it is equally awful. Also, while most of the classes are taught by real professionals, they pad their database with a lot of people who speak confidently about things they are clearly not professionally educated in and spout some toxic misinformation or opinions veiled as facts. So, the overall lessons Masterclass gave me about itself are: the classes by teachers you already trust will be good, don’t trust the classes unless you trust the person teaching them, and the monstrosity of Masterclass itself is absolutely horrendous and does not deserve your money if you can find a way to learn from your teachers somewhere else

Billy Collins. I am well past middle age but have always longed to write poetry. The upside of this pandemic, which has caused so much tragedy, is that it afforded me time to read, write, and take this class. It’s the first time I was able to take a writing class for pure enjoyment. It’s like taking a photography class. You start seeing things differently. You frame it in words. Suddenly, the hidden becomes revealed, the undervalued gets another look and life opens up in unexpected ways! It’s not just about a way of writing. It’s about a way of seeing, and I am so grateful!

One of the best online educational workshops I’ve ever experienced.. Wow… Just wow! I love the variety of master class as you can do. I love that inside each library there’s different episodes and you can go just the ones you’re talking to at the moment I got one by one. Each one you’re gonna learn something it’s amazing it’s intimate and it’s worth every penny ..What’s really cool is I got mine on a buy one get one so I gave mine gift of the annual membership to my best friend so she can watch and learn as well. I highly recommend it if you’ve live entrepreneurial educational guidance from experts in the field. Enjoy!

If you want to watch as a family; Do NOT buy it. New content is adult rated. Like R rated Emily Morse teaches Sex Ed. Completely taken by surprise. Not 9+ rated app anymore; should be 17+. Wasted approximately almost $200 trying to watch a service with a little class which up to now centered upon Thomas Keller cooking, Jake Shimabukuro teaches ukuleles, famous design and novel writing classes, and Steph Curry and Garry Kasporav teaching basketball and chess respectively. Oh an architecture. And space exploration. An now a “MasterClass” on sex Ed. Wow, just wow. Of all the topics left outstanding like gardening, opera, woodcrafting, fishing, floral arrangements, all the beautiful topics of the world they went for the gutter. Support people refused to give a refund, even though I am less than halfway through my annual subscription. They lectured me about respecting identities and orientations, while ignoring the issue is one of content. Adios MasterClass. It was classy while it lasted...

I am in love!. This app is amazing! I love that I’m learning from my idol such as Joel Zimmermann to R.L Stine! I am a creative person always in search of new knowledge to help perfect my own craft, such a different feel from skillshare or any other learning platform (I am a member of skillshare and udemy and love both, they are not as professional, however I still appreciate them!). Masterclass is taught by known names in their related industry they teach, making them look and feel more professional and all classes come with a downloadable workbook (most I found had at least 48 pages!) great investment for the annual membership highly recommend!

Inefficient and Extremely Buggy. Masterclass app lacks the basic generic functionality that all education apps have. You can't easily navigate through lessons. I.e. you want to rewind to a previous chapter which happens a lot when you get to the end of a lesson. Videos hang, don't start where you last left off, don't pause when using navigation. Very dangerous to use when driving. You can't download a course. You have to manually download each lesson. Then they randomly disappear so you just spent a lot of time and possibly data plan for nothing. This app is extremely unreliable and it seems like it's just focused on pushing new content to you rather than providing a pleasant learning experience. It's shocking that they have such great talent for content and put so little into the UI.

App is horrible. I really wanted to enjoy MasterClass and the few lessons I was able to download were very good. However, the app for IOS is horrible!! The short lessons would NOT download they would be stuck in the queue phase and then error out. I tried everything to get the lessons to downloadI tried to delet the app and download again, I tried reaching out to customer support, I tried different WiFi, and for a short time it said I could use cellular data but that did not work either. I also could not stream the lessons on my app. I am sure the content of MasterClass is wonderful but if I can’t get to it then I can’t give it more than one star. I hope they fix the app but by looking back at reviews I see that this has been an issues for at least a year. If the app is ever fixed I will resubscribe. Don’t waste your money for now

Cancel button disappears. I hardly ever write app reviews. If your payment is declined (low balance, got a new card, expired, etc.) they will show your subscription ended on that date and the "Cancel Subscription" button will disappear. They will continue attempting to charge your account. You cannot manage your account via this app, only on web. There is a 30 day window for a refund, but if you miss it because you thought the matter was closed having seen a cancellation date, you won't get a refund. Until this is fixed, I will not patronize this service. The help section says to click a "Cancel Subscription" button. It won't be there and neither will I. Also, the counts of the lessons you've watched may not update. I watched a full class in writing and the count was always 0.

I erroneously purchased the yearly subscription but got refunded by the amazing Apple support team.. I wanted to try the Tom Morello guitar class. I don’t particularly like his style but he is a professional guitarist and, although his style is so very different, I have learned some things. Since I paid for a year I was looking for some more classes in most but everything was by washed out artists or styles I would normally listen to like rap/hop hop/ beat making etc. If you are into these new music styles you may find value in Masterclass and it is cheap after all. Me however, tried the St. Vincent class about songwriting and all she was talking about was fears and self judgement and imposter syndrome etc, so I gave up after 3 videos.

A Treasure of Great Courses. I started watching the Master Classes last summer. The quality of the instruction and videos are excellent. I watch a lot of the cooking classes. They come with downloadable workbooks with the recipes, a most useful bonus. There are new classes added regularly, so there is always something that I haven’t watched yet. I appreciate that the instructors chosen for the classes are some of the best in their field. The classes are short enough that it’s easy to watch them even with a busy schedule. I am very glad I made the choice to buy these classes. They improve my life, especially in this long season of Covid.

one star for subtitles. The subtitles are horrible. I like to read subtitles while I watch so I can learn and pick up on words I cannot understand by hearing what is said. I just heard Jane Goodall say “desertified” (with or without hyphen) meaning “turning into desert” and the subtitle instead wrote “dissatisfied” — how appalling. That is the moment I stopped and wrote this review. Some of the other masterclasses are even worse. For example, Marc Jacobs uses a lot of french or fashion terminology that the subtitle marks “inaudible”. And Hans Zimmer used the words “church organ” which, again, was marked as “inaudible”. Stop hiring people who know nothing about the subject to do these subtitles, or ask the masterclass person to verify what he/she said so the subtitles can be useful. So unprofessional..... unbelievable. Who edits this crap?

Great product, terrible app!. I’d recommend not buying this product if you intend to use the app, it’s so bad. The app opens and has pop-ups, suggests new classes and I simply want to continue listening to classes I started already. Good luck. It doesn’t remember where you left off. It will be entire chapters off, start sections over again. Every time you pause and come back to it, it’s completely lost your spot. When you finally do complete it all, it shows whole chapters as unstaffed, and you have to manually drag the slider to completion to indicate you listened to the class. Total waste of time. If the Audible app can make all this work perfectly, MasterClass should be able to. Oh, and then the automated voice the introduces each chapter is terrible, unnecessary and disruptive.

Pretty Fun- Acting and Singing Classes Could be More Legit. Love this app. Samuel L Jackson’s class is great and pretty practical for new actors. Love the gangster gardener class. Wish they had a musical theater workshop though and legit singing instructors as well. Kristin Chenoweth? Sierra Boggess anyone? Some of the acting classes aren’t as practical because it’s more for someone who already had lots of big roles they’re doing and being offered...(classes like: How to develop a character, how to decide what roles to take, how to develop a dialect etc.) More practical might be teaching methods like Meisner or Strasberg techniques or even how to be in the moment, how to bring you authentically you to someone else’s writing, how to develop your craft etc...

This is the cream of the crop.. I’d seen a number of MasterClass ads before decided to take the plunge. I AM SO GLAD I DID. The production quality is outstanding. Clearly, a lot of time and effort has gone into creating each person’s segment to be reflective of their craft and personality. You have access to experts in various disciplines, and their insights and teachings are invaluable. The episodes are very well edited, everything you need and nothing you don’t. There’s zero filler; fantastic for someone who wants the core takeaways without an insane time commitment. There are multiple categories to dive into, truly something for everyone. Keep them coming!

Interim Review.... I will change the stars and my review depending on how the following question is answered: I purchased my membership under the “All Access, 1-year” promotion Master Class ran before Christmas – Buy one All Access pass; And gift a second for free to someone of my choosing. The idea was my wife and I would take the courses at the same time, on different iPads. When my wife followed the link In the “Gift” e-mail, the only option under ”GET STARTED” asked for another $180. My question: Was the second membership actually a “free gift” for me to extend; or did I miss something cleverly disguised somewhere in the promotion? Thanks Marsden Moran, AIA

Totally Worth The Price!!. Master Class is top notch! I loved the convenience of taking classes on my iPhone, iPad or Apple TV! The instructors and topics are so relevant and creatively put together! I initially purchased MC for Kelly Wearstler’s and Ron Finleys classes! Both fantastic! However - I found that I enjoyed the cooking classes, Issa Rae’s class and the sessions on Black Love! So informative and Thought-provoking! And so many new classes are being added for 2022! I need to re enroll!! Oh and the MC Community !? Being able to interact with other students was so fulfilling! The assignments and class materials are priceless! All together SO Well worth the price!!!

A MUST HAVE!. First of all, these are masterclasses. If you’re looking for an in-depth how-tos, this is not for you. But what’s so great about the content of MC is that we get to see the behind-the-scenes materials. I find how the successful people think and apply their knowledge and thought process extremely valuable. Some classes are more general while others are very specific and require certain advanced level of the subject. That being said, the price is incredibly reasonable given the diverse subjects and classes one can take! This is the best gift I’ve given to myself, and I only wish I began earlier!

Just what I needed in Quarantine time!. I just love master class because it’s fun to watch but you actually learn a lot -especially now that we are stuck at home, it makes everything much more tolerable. The app itself is kind of confusing and I don’t know why after so many times of using it I still have a hard time finding and browsing through instructors, however the content is so good that I’m giving it 5 stars. Sometimes I listen to them instead of watching when I’m working out or walking so the audio mode is quite useful. I suggest it to everyone and hope that they keep kicking adding awesome instructors and classes.
