Potential hearing loss!!. Be careful when using the app. It recommends headphones but do not and I mean do not use them unless you want your ear drums blown out. At the screen where you first submerge into the title, this loud extremely loud garbled mess screams into your ears no matter how low the volume is. At first I thought it was just the one page, nope. It was the second as well. I dare not go any further with this app. Back to real books and music

Another Fantastic Installment. One of my favorite shorts from Lovecraft and it was adapted very well with this audio-visual format. The flashlight bit with Nahum's wife in the attic was a hoot. These guys do a great job with these classic tales and the hard work shows so thank you.

Amazing rendition. I thought the first set of mini books was awesome. This was fantastic! I sincerely hope they are able to push out more of Lovecrafts stories. I’d purchase every one. The ambiance truly draws you into the story via sight, sound, and H.P’s maddening words. Worth every penny

Scary Fun. I liked the first volume so bought the second volume which was even better. I had never heard this spooky story but loved it and the animated technology. Great fun. Where’s the next volume?

Definitive Creativity. Absolutely, without a doubt, enjoyed this. I could not stop reading!!!

Passion for the subject shines on every page. This is a work of love and devotion. Well thought out and clever artwork highlights the story and brings it to life. It does not simply illustrate it. The artists and producers make the story even more frightening than the original not by making it more graphic but more relatable and real. I have seen several large and small screen adaptations of this particular story and I plan to see the one coming soon with Nicolas Cage but this has an intimacy and immediacy that stands on its own and draws you in in a way full animation or live action can’t because it lets you dwell and absorb the tale on your terms. I hope they do more of Lovecraft’s works.

Fantastic. As a relative newcomer and one to always prefer The original written form; I still found this be an absolute masterpiece fully capable of conveying the horror HP Lovecraft wish to convey.

Can't stop reading. Very enjoyable end up reading to the end in one sitting. With all the effects it keep you looking around the page to see if you saw all the effects and wanting more. Well done.

Love. Really gets you in the story. You get so into it you lose track of time. Love all their works. I hope they do more!

Madness. Beautifully worked and illustrated, this telling illustrates the story masterfully, tastefully and in a way that brings Lovecraft's already enthralling tale to life in new ways.

Oh,Wow!. That’s all I can say about this app. It brought a wonderful, classic book to life. It added ten fold to the experience. The art, sound FX and music were perfectly synced to your reading. If you just read a House was whinnying it happened at that exact time. All I can say is I want all of H.P. Lovecraft’s book reworked by this group of talented artists!

Scary and Fun!. This app not only encourages reading, but also does a fantastic job in immersing the reader in the story to a level where you feel like you are in the story. The background music, drawings, and animation set a perfect atmosphere. The team that developed this app obviously put a lot of time and effort and created a high quality, unique experience to the reader when exploring the classics. I am a horror novel buff and Lovecraft is my favorite author in this genre. Hope you do more of his work. “The Call of Cthulhu” maybe?

Dare you..... Go ahead, I dare you to read this with the lights out, alone and at night! Maybe just one candle.... This might be as scary as a movie because you can physically (through touch) interact with the story! Well done!

Best 3 bucks I’ve ever spent!. Lovecraft was brilliant, but in modern times, his language, setting and context can seem quite alien to readers. That’s what makes this format so helpful and engaging; it utilizes our modern desires for a certain pace, certain highs and lows (and “jump-scares”) and an overall tone or mood. It takes its cues from the past hundred years of suspense and horror tales writ large in cinematic language, and utilizes those tactics and forms to re-tell Lovecraft’s bizarre and lavish stories in a way we can more easily digest. I will, however, argue that Lovecraft’s particular style is designed to inspire the readers by only telling vague descriptors of monsters, ghouls and forms, and leaving the details to their imaginations, thus making many of the illustrations – beautiful, vivid and horrifying as they are – a bit superfluous. We’re I the creative director of this app, I might suggest illustrating only the “edges” of the horror and never fully revealing what a given horrific thing actually looks like. That’s my one criticism of this format. I hope to read more stories - and certainly more from Lovecraft - in this way as “new media” integrates with old formats. Great work, app makers!

Pop-up Books for Grown-ups. I’m rating the app and not the story itself which had some issues, but you can find those on Goodreads. The iClassics team manage to impress me again with their apps which I affectionately refer to as pop-up books for grown-ups. Classic pieces of fiction often suffer from pacing and archaic language, making them tough reads for modern audiences. iClassics manages to breathe new life into these tales making them more accessible and immersive to a today’s readers. A great deal for a great way to experience the classics that no reader should go without.

Great app. Great and creepy story and the app compliments it perfectly! Worth the money and definitely worth a read!

Lovecraft in all his splendor.. What I can say? This book beat any movie ever made about the colour out of space and I such a fun experience and interactive.

Brilliantly and Frighteningly Done. There are no mistakes in this spooky tale. For adults and older children it is an epic of writing and illustration. Be sure to use headphones. The music, too, and sound effects could NOT be better. You are doing yourself a great favor to get all the apps from this imaginative company. I have!

Awesome adaptation. This a truly inspired adaption of the greatest work of cosmic terror ever written. I actually jumped in fright at several of the panels. If you enjoy a well constructed story artfully told, check this out.

Great melding of mediums. Love the vibrating sights and sounds. I almost expected a stench and foul green smoke to emit from my phone or tentacle to break thru during some of those passages of Lovecraft. There’s an eerieness that I haven’t felt since I first saw The Ring. Some of the flying bugs also made me think of The Mist. You really make scary other worldly creatures of Necronomicon lore come to life. They’re like interactive graphic novels. Very cool. And intense. Great pairing of a scary soundtrack to the text. And I like the gothic look to the pages. Sometimes black, sometimes white. And was very inventive with being able to scroll around rooms or move branches. Gave it a nice POV feel with an exciting involved first person reader experience.

Review. I really enjoyed reading this. I really look forward to seeing more of Lovecraft’s works in the near future.

Absolutely Delightful. I first read The Colour Out of Space some 35 years ago, and have revisited it many times. Somehow, this app made it all feel new again. The animations of the text, the grotesque illustrations reminiscent (but not derivative) of Gahan Wilson, the pitch-perfect OST that builds from wonder to terrifying revelation... incredible. I hope there are many more “episodes” to come; I would LOVE to see what this team does with The Call of Cthulhu and Rats in the Walls, to say nothing of The Mountains of Madness!

Magnificent! More Lovecraft please!. I can not recommend this tale enough. First, it is Lovecraft, but secondly, it is the amazing way that the artists presented it. Better than a lot of Hollywood movies I’ve seen.

What an absolutely great way to read a book!. iClassics have done an incredible job creating a multi-media way to experience Lovecraft’s story...this really is a work of art, where the interactive illustrations, music, and revealing of the text all work together to bring the story to life. I just downloaded 5 more of their works!

Captures the brilliant fiendish mind of H. P. Lovecraft. When you read Lovecraft your imagination treats you to unsettling images. Your imagination will appear too benign by its naive benevolence, it will be stretched further to uncharted, unwholesome depths by the artful malevolence of Lovecraft’s mind and this assembly of guides. A superb tour of hellish things.

Great work. Every Lovecraft fan should have this. This is one of the best interpretations of his work I’ve seen in a long time.

Where text, illustration, and cinema cross paths!. I am a newcomer to Lovecraft. He was always at the corners of my curiosity, and thanks to iClassics, I took the plunge. I read volume one with “The Hound” and “Dagon” and craved more. “The Colour out of Space” feels as much like a film as it does a book. It has a wonderful accompanying soundtrack which complements the ghastly yet beautiful illustrations. There is literally a surprise in every corner of this book and you have to be curious and attentive to provoke them. A marvelous enhancement to a masterful work.

Music/Sound Effects not reliable. I have tried using this app multiple times and every time I try, the music and sound effects do not work. I have tried toggling the music on/off selector as well as restarting my device to uninstalling and reinstalling the app..... All to no avail. It’s a shame because the 1st app and the art in this app are fantastic but the audio experience is unreliable.

Amazing. Totally different type of reading experience. At one point my alarm went off and glitched the music off and it hit me just how much of a difference the eerie soundtrack makes. 10/10. Will be my first of many purchases from this developer.

Very impressed!. I’m a fan of horror as well as a writer of it, and this interactive version of THE COLOUR OUT OF SPACE is done justice. I was very impressed with the original story as well as the fresh visuals and creepy music that come with this app. It makes the experience worth the $3. Get it and you won’t be disappointed. If they do this with THE CALL OF CTHULHU it will be fantastic!

Suspicious. These books are entertaining and well done, but unfortunately I have to give them a low rating due to the apps suspicious behavior. I have purchased all of the iclassics and found that they all immediately default to the 'on' position in cellular data and immediately use nearly a megabyte of data. Why a book would need to use any data at all is curious and that they use that much data is both odd and suspicious. I wrote to the company at the email posted on their website but received no response. I cannot recommend purchasing these books unless they stop this practice of sending whatever data they're gathering and using customers cellular data without permission.

Perfect presentation. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the iLovecraft collection experiences. I hope this long-form story app gets the love it deserves because I'd love to see At The Mountains of Madness, The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, and The Shadow Out Of Time, one day, as additions to this app collection. Fantastic. Love every second of it!

Amazing!. I have read everything Lovecraft ever wrote, and watched every video production I could find over the last 50+ years, and in my experience, nothing has been truer to his stories and more compelling than this recreation of The Colour Out Of Space. I would have told you I knew this story start to finish, nearly by memory; I’ve read it dozens - if not hundreds - of times, from the very first time when I was only 8. But I’ve never seen anything like this. It made me appreciate the story in an entirely new, vastly-deeper way; the art, the music, the pace and presentation - just fantastic. 5 stars hands down. Please do many, many more.

More Lovecraft like this.. These iBooks are awesome and I sincerely hope that more from HPL is in the works. He has so many tales which would both benefit from and be a boon for the format. I can only imagine the creative smorgasbord and visual bounty that could come from works like The Call of Cthulhu and Shadow Over Innsmouth and so many others on the iBook format. At the Mountains of Madness anyone? Or even something less assuming like The Cats of Ulthar, all should be adapted!!

Another sweet app. I really love iClassics and have been with them since the first iPoe. They’re doing a really great job and I’m always excited when a new app pops up - it feels like eating a decadent dessert amidst all the other reading I do. This Lovecraft story, true to form, has great artwork and music. The white noise sound effects in the first half or so of the app are not well balanced volume-wise with the music and are just too loud, so I had to keep toggling the volume to keep everything at a comfortable level. That’s a minor issue though - really enjoyed this and looking forward to the next one.

I can’t get enough of these!. I’m a big fan of H.P. Lovecraft. And these apps make his stories so much more immersive. I hope there are more to come!

WOW!!!. As a devoted Lovecraft fan, I have read this story before...but never like this! The devs have done a truly brilliant job creating an interactive visual and sonic experience around the original text. I hope they do many more!

Fans of Lovecraft will enjoy. Great app and worth the money if you are a Lovecraft fan!! Art and music are good and fit together nicely. A small bug seemed to kick me out on a certain page, but when reopened put me right at the next page, so a bit forgivable. Looking forward to more iLovecraft in the future!

Freakin' AWESOME!. Just got finished reading the story to my wife, who never read HPL, but who loved the whole audiovisual experience of this app. I remember finding a worn, 50 cent paperback at an old used bookstore called "The Colour Out of Space", buying it, and shivering in fear as I read it, some 50+ years ago. It made HPL my favorite writer as a kid and I voraciously read everything I could find by Mr Lovecraft. (I also remember a terrible movie adaptation of it from the 1960's, starring Boris Karloff, called "Die, Monster, Die" which as I recall didn't even credit this story as being the source for what the movie was based on. If you can find a copy, DON'T!) This app experience reminded me of how I felt reading the story the first time. Wonderful!

Uses new Technology to Bring Old Stories to Life. Using the features available on smart phones and handhelds to retell genre classics is an inspired idea! These guys at iClassics know what they're doing.

Best to read with lights on. I really enjoy reading this story. The animations, sound effects, and music really set the tone. The jump scares are great and scary. I wish there was another story or two but for three dollars it was still well worth getting. I hope they continue doing more H.P. Lovecraft stories in the near future. Maybe I’ll check of there other authors.

Just gorgeous!. When the title card revealed itself i knew this telling of the HPL classic was going to be good. I enjoyed reading this with all the wonder of someone reading a macabre pop-up book. The music is phenomenal, and the visuals are so cautious and subtle in places, which really accentuate the more intense and vibrant scenes later on. Also the interaction is fantastic too, i enjoyed prodding around the scenes, and watching parts of the artwork come to life, or parallax as I moved my screen. Just such a good app, hoping they release another HPL story, because this one was so satisfying!

AMAZING!!!. Been a huge fan of Lovecrafts works for many years now and this app captures the feel perfectly! Not bad, but a couple of annoying things. It’s not bad, but there’s a couple of annoying things. The introductory text gives away the central premise of the story. That really frustrated me. It would be so much better to read it not knowing those details, as it’s about the mystery of the unknown. Whenever you open the app after it has been loaded out of memory you have to sit through a pointless animated splash screen. It's a pain if you want to just quickly pick up the story and read a bit of it. And there’s one page early on where there’s vines obscuring the text and they’re moving around so to read the text you’re constantly having to brush them out of the way. It’s just irritating.

I got your Eldritch Horror right here. I have always been a proponent of letting your imagination fill in the visuals of a good story. But, and behind everything there’s a butt, if you already know the story and what a wonderfully and horribly enhanced experience that only adds to a tale that you already love, this is it. Maybe a little too heavy on the jump scares toward the end but overall this was so enjoyable. Turn out the lights, plug-in your earphones, and prepare to be horrified... In a good way.
