Capsicum by Illuminated Bits Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Great idea but crashes and is missing a few things. Love the idea and the presentation. But, in the first 10 minutes I was using it, it crashed at least 6 times. I’m sure that will get better. I do wish it had more enhanced scheduling like ‘every 2 weeks’. And, almost everything I do is project-based so I wish there was a way to create projects with phases and tasks and then be able to move a task or tasks to a day.

Doesn’t Open. Installed, can’t get to open. Deleted and reinstalled, logged in and start to get it set up. Then crashes and crashes each time I try to open.

Great but one suggestion. So I’ve just started using this app and I think it’s everything I’ve been wanting in a digital planner. Though I’d like to be able to have a work notebook and a general life one. It’d be great if you could select which apple calendars went to which notebook.

Potential. If you accidentally mark off a habit and delete it, the tally still shows that you marked off the extra habit.

Great functionality!. I like the overall functionality. I was looking for a calendar app with which to track my habits and found that and more within this app. The integration with Siri is a nice touch. As noted by other reviewers, it is a bit slow to respond, and lacks the ability to quickly return to the current date (or select a date from a date picker). I find the weather feature to be superfluous, especially if it is one of the drivers of the subscription fee. It shows a lot of promise. I look forward to seeing how it evolves!

Not sure who would use this. I am not sure who the intended audience is for this app. I get that it is new and needs to be fleshed out a bit more. My GF is a list freak. She has tons of lists and is always adding, moving, crossing off items. This app is not for her. It won’t keep up as it is too slow and rudimentary. I am a huge calendar person and live and die by my work (Exchange) calendar. I am usually quadruple booked and am always running around from conference room to bridge call. This app does not help. (It also doesn’t recognize Exchange calendars unless you add them to your Apple ID. No big deal. Just mentioning it.) I also take copious notes. (Usually for my meetings.). How do I search for my notes? How do I tie them to my events? I just don’t think I am a good candidate for this app. Good luck devs. But I am uninstalling.

Love it, but sad. I randomly downloaded this app, but I actually fell in love with it. I used the loose leaf section A LOT and developed an attachment with this app, however I didn’t know that it was free for only 14 days. When I realized that i could no longer use it I was soooo disappointed. I suggest that maybe instead of making it free for only 14 days, you should have in-app purchases so that at least the app is usable for other people. The app is really great and I love the idea but I only gave it three stars because I was really disappointed when I couldn’t use it anymore.

I am charmed by the prettiness of this app. I downloaded this app because it is so attractive and although I have only used it for three days, using it gives me a great deal of visual pleasure so it encourages me to maintain the habits I would like to develop. I will update this review after sufficient time has passed for me to give a useful evaluation

So far so good... except. Update: I’m lowering my review to 3 stars. Still love it, but there are some bugs and annoyances that would be seemingly simple to fix, yet the app hasn’t been updated in a long while. Not being a developer myself, however, I could be wrong about the simplicity of fixing the problems. The specific problem I’m talking about is that here it is Sunday and I still have 2 tasks from Friday that have yet to be migrated. They haven’t even been migrated to Saturday yet. The migration feature is one of my favorites, but as I mentioned in my original review, it seems to just migrate whenever it wants to, rather than right at midnight like it should. And now it appears that it may not even migrate until 2 days later, assuming they finally migrate today. Basically, at this point, I am realizing the migrate feature is useless since it can’t be depended on to work consistently. Original review: I’m gonna go ahead and rate this 4 stars even though I’ve only been using it for a few days. I may change my review as I get more into it, but so far this is what I think needs changed: Tasks that are migrated to the next day need to be migrated right at midnight, not some random time during the day. As far as I can tell they are migrated just whenever the app feels like it I guess, which is kinda useless if I happen to check my tasks for the day before they happen to migrate. One small disappointment was Week view. It’s basically just day view all in one screen, meaning instead of having the ability to set goals or tasks for that week, you are still limited to picking a day. I need a haircut this week, but I don’t know which day I’ll be able to fit it in, so I just want to throw it on the week view so I can make sure it gets done by the end of the week, but I can’t do that in this app unless I pick an exact day, which kinda makes the week view pointless. I mean sure it’s nice to see the entire weeks worth of events and tasks, but there should also be a place for weekly goals, same as the monthly goals in the month view. In spite of those 2 things, I am seriously considering purchasing a subscription after my 14 day trial is up. Even with those small issues, this app is the closest I have ever found to what I want to manage my tasks and schedule.

The habit tracker is a game changer!!. Capsicum’s habit tracker feature is an excellent tool for building new healthy habits. Seeing a visual of your progress is both encouraging and rewarding, and motivates me to stick to any new habit. Also, the notifications help tremendously in keeping me on track! Really, a fantastic app!

Cannot create log in. Decent idea but not ready for full use. Noticed following cannot create log in, free trial is not working it says subscription expired on day 1. Recommend oauth login through Facebook and Google.

Love it but..... I was immediately sucked in by the design of this app. I've done bullet journaling and planners but I end up quitting the analog method as it takes too long and is bulky. This app's design fit that need perfectly in the design department! I want to love it SO BAD However... definitely experiencing glitches right after downloading. Issue with to-do's just disappearing. Also agree with other users on needed fixes. I hope the dev team can implement some of these changes. Would definitely re-rate and would be my only planner app if so!!

To Do List Disappears. I downloaded this app specifically because I wanted a to-do list and the it won’t even let me add anything to my to-do list???? Trash.

Utter Nonsense. I agree with previous review. These subscription based apps are utter nonsense. One time purchase would be a way to go if you want to succeed. I would not pay a single penny. Merry

Never updated, no customer service. Too bad. This app is very nicely put together, aesthetically pleasant, simple and does almost everything I’d like it to. At least, it’s supposed to. It’s pretty buggy, and despite trying to contact the developers through the app and through Twitter, there are never any responses. They haven’t updated the app in over 8 months and seem content to take your money and leave you dangling in the wind. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY SUBSCRIBING TO THIS APP!!!!

Habits with potential!. Just downloaded and planned my first few days. This is definitely what I’ve been looking for in a planning/tracking app - THANK YOU. Couple of requests for future updates: 1. Habits: when adding items to the habits list, can the items be added from the bottom? Or maybe we can choose how they go in? I’m more of one to plan by going through my day start to finish, so it’s a little time consuming to swap places with all of my habits. It just helps me visualize everything :) 2. Habits: Is there any way to have an option for the habits to be separated into days of the week so we can set a routine? Sometimes my routine varies a little depending on the day and it’d be nice to customize. Especially if i could set a standard template to pre-populate each day and if I modify it, it only applies to that specific day, not the template. 3. I added some To Do items and they are nowhere to be found :(

Needs “Add Photo” feature in notes.. I would like the app to add a feature where we can add a photo or draw. Also more journal styles would be great!!

This is just a 14 day free trial. After that I have no idea what it costs, deleted that app immediately. Never trust a company that is not upfront on costs.

Depends What You're Looking For. I've been a stationery girl all my life - I love pretty journals, colorful pens, etc. This app really scratches that itch. Its appearance is very customizable, even in the free version. That said, the functionality needs work. The planning function is a super simple To Do list, although contrary to some other reviews, you can set reminders. But if you want to see a time associated with a task, you have to put it in your calendar. I'd like the option of a calendar-style view. The habit tracker is so minimal that it's almost useless if you want to track more than a couple of habits. When you tic off a habit, it records when you completed it (if you choose), but it immediately resets. I want a habit to either disappear until tomorrow, or I want it to change color, remain checked, or reorder - anything that makes it easy to see what I haven't done yet. The more habits you add, the harder it is to figure out what remains to be done. Also, there's no way to set a habit for, say, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The loose leaf function it okay, nothing fancy, but I can't find a way to delete a page. While I strongly believe in supporting developers and don't mind subscriptions as opposed to a one-time charge, there really isn't enough here to justify the price at this time.

This app has so much potential!. I’ve been looking for something like this for a whole now, but it is not quite what I need yet. - to do list integration with other to do apps. Trello, todoist, reminders, things... especially reminders - ability to create recurring to dos - agenda style schedule as an option, with the ability to see the “white space” in between appointments and see how long things last. - ability to email into app for notes and todos.

Search function?. There is no search function. Renders the app useless.

Disappointed. It’s really pretty and seems like it would be worth the price, but it crashed several times within 5 minutes of downloading it. On top of that, when I click my preferred calendar it links a different calendar (it did this twice and I couldn’t find any way to change calendars other than deleting it and re-downloading it).

Needs to be more robust in the task arena. I really like the feel of this app, but there are some big deficiencies in the task portion, such as... -I don’t see a way to create recurring tasks -I don’t see a way to create task categories -I don’t see a way to create task reminders (time or location) I like the integration of various things, but I need something a little more robust for tasks.

Basic overpriced list making app. Seriously why should I pay $20 a year ongoing price for a list app as basic as this! Very disappointed, I am surprised apple features this. There are far better apps out there! I could accept this app if it was a fair $2 one time price. What exactly am I paying a subscription for?

I get it and could like it. There's something intriguing about the simple and clever arrangements in this app. I applaud The thinking. Maybe as a long time software developer myself, I am saddened by the anger of the reviewers, But I do agree with them that there are enough obvious bugs to wonder why it was released so soon. I am putting an event in my Apple reminders to check on this app in 2weeks to see If it is ready for prime time.

Well designed. Needs Shortcuts support though.

Don’t bother.... Says offers in-app purchase - but what they really mean is COMPULSORY subscription even to use the app (albeit no charge for 14 days) but it’s still NOT an ‘offer’ !!!

Not well crafted. The animation is not smooth enough even on iPhone XS Max, weird haptics when tapping on the tab bar, it’s overuse of haptics, refer to Human Interface Guidelines for iOS for more details. The app also crashes randomly when I tap on loose leaf, sometimes it does sometimes it doesn’t. This is a good idea, but the product is definitely not ready to be considered version 1.0. It’s not about “we have to ship it at one point anyway”, yes you can leave some features for future versions, but the current features must be stable enough, and that’s when you ship it.

Very Refined. This app is extremely well refined. It seems like it will be a great help for people who need to keep organized!

$20 for what?. First prove it is more useful that the other thousand similar apps, then we can discuss price.

Promising. This app has a lot of promise. However not enough for me to use. I’d need to see Apple Health support for meeting my health/activity based habits like other habit apps. Until then I’ll just keep using Streaks.

Great potential. I really enjoy the app. It works well for the most part, it crashes at least once a day. I believe this app has lots of potential. It helps track task and appointments and it also has a note section in the bottom of each day. The only thing I feel that is missing is being able to clip something to a note, like a picture. Other then that, the app works great.

Buggy sometimes. I have little to no problem with this app. It has helped me schedule all the things I need to get done in a busy day. My biggest problem with it is that it is constantly saying my trial has expired even though I have payed for the monthly pass. Each time it does this I have to sign out and back in again to get it to work. Other than that, it’s a great app.

Unstable. Locks up every time I open the app, can’t see anywhere to modify calendar choices. Hate the subscription model.

Great App!. This App has helped me be so much more productive while feeling less stress. It is so easy to change the order of your to do list. I also love being able to track various things. I have only scratched the surface of that this app can do and I already can’t live without it!!

Glitches. I used the app for the 14 day trail period and loved it so much I decided to subscribe. However, as soon as the trail period was over it started to glitch. I would mark something as completed on my to do list only to have it reappear the next day over and over again. The calendar also keeps adding random events. I don’t understand why it was better during the trail period.

I like the idea. Thank you! Looks like the problems have been fixed! I've been searching far and wide for an app like this (a page for each day with events, to dos and a single field for notes). I ran into some problems: - The trial expiring (I'm pretty sure this was not intentional, most likely a software bug) - When I add new notes, the notes don't actually appear on the notes area. It just says "Notes"? I'm not sure if this has to do with there not beong an active trial or subscription but I think a notes app should viewable when you're on the page (instead of double tapping to bring up a separate notes window) - And sometimes the animations are just a bit clunky like the page flip or the pages just don't flip sometimes so I can't even scroll to the previous or next day. I'm on a pretty newish phone (iPhone 8+) and it runs reasonably well in most other apps I use. I reeeeeally want this to be a good app cuz I've been looking for so long for one like this.

Trial has expired. Says you get 14 days when you start but two minutes in it says trial is expired. Also, it’s been out for a day... not sure how it could have changed anyone’s life yet (especially since it’s bugged and locks you out immediately). Fake reviews already!

Subscription? Without taking a look at the app. Really really bad experience. At least show the features inside your app. Then I can decide if I would subscribe.

Very well-done app. Lots of options but easy to learn. I’m sure updates will make it even better. Keep it up! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Overhyped and now seemingly abandoned. As many apps are today, the dev hyped and promoted this app to the hilt only to stop supporting/updating it months after release. When you charge a premium and then seemingly abandon your app mere months later, you’re being disrespectful to your paying customers. This app hasn’t received a single update in well over four years. Where’s the update for iOS 14, 15, and 16? I’ve now subscribed to well over 100 apps, but this is one app that isn’t deserving of your hard earned coin. Subscription apps that go more than four years without a single update should be removed from the App Store. Devs that stop supporting/updating their apps shouldn’t be allowed to offer subscriptions. I’ll never support this developer again.

Subscription costs too much for what it does.. Update: I kept my eye on the app to see how they improve or change it, and it’s been 9 months now. Why would I ever subscribe to an app that’s been abandoned. “Tell your story” or whatever it’s called is just the Bear notes app but very watered down. If you have used Bear before, you’ll quickly see what essential organizational and layout features you’re missing. The Today/Week/Month view with your tasks is very basic - not much to say here. The Habits tab is the best part of the app. My major criticism is that for the features it offers it is far too expensive. Even though it might not all be packaged in one place, you can get all three of these features (notes, today view, and habits) in much cheaper apps with way more features. I think it has potential. If cost is no issue and you’re fine spending $20 a year for three basic features wrapped into one app (i.e. you’re not a power user or need any advanced features) then I’d say this is the app for you. I would however recommend looking into Sorted 3 as well.

There is zero reason for this app to be subscription based. The things this app does should cost a 1 time fee of $2 tops. If you do an update, charge $2 for the new version.

Great App w/Lots of Potential. UPDATE - Still really like the app but now all of my events are not syncing from the calendar even though I have everything checked the way it should be. Frustrating! Marking it from a 3 star to 2 star review. Really like this app! I use the “Note”’section for journaling as I like to have the journaling included on the actual day and not separated. Would love to be able to add pictures to the Note section. I love that it integrates with my phone calendar to include any appointments for the day and includes the weather. I do find it strange that you cannot contact the developers via email through the app. I have tried a ton of journaling apps and I would recommend this one for its simplicity and cool features.

Not worth it. $20 a year for an app that doesn’t really add much value should be a crime. I won’t support apps that have subscriptions and neither should you - pretty soon every developer will be taking $2 a month from you. Stay away from this useless app.

pretty good, could have more variety. i wish you could change more stuff on it like the set up and lay out. also more patterns, colors, fonts, etc

Looks promising. I really wanted this app to work but multiple crashes on iPhone and iPad. Will come back at a later date.

Has potential. I love this app. I use it for quick on the go planning. I would love a widget to add things.

To Do Don’t Save. I keep trying to add tasks and click on the + button or click on “done” but they auto erase and don’t save anywhere. Help? Otherwise I really like it so far.

Writing. If I could write with my Apple Pencil I would definitely subscribe! 😩 This app is *almost* exactly what I’ve been looking for...so close. 😞

I really hate to give this app 1 star. I played around with this app, and it really looks like a truly amazing and well designed app with a beautiful interface. This is an app I would really like to love! However, apps that have monthly subscription services like this one does can very easily trap you. If you stop paying, all your information could be lost, and in an app like this which contains everything to do with your life, that could be a disaster! I know that subscription apps seem like the “in” thing to do now, they create a steady stream of income for the developer and Apple is doing everything they can to encourage this model, but for an app like this, for the consumer there is little benefit. I’d be willing to pay quite a bit more initially, and then pay again for major updates.

Colorful app with good features. I just downloaded the app. Has a great combination of features in one place that I haven’t seen in any other app. Tons of customizable tabs, easy to navigate. The only disadvantage I find is that you have to pay once 14 days trial is gone. Might be worth the money for someone, but I would rather use free app for planning. Good job though!

Nice app for consolidating. I had multiple apps that this one app does. You can integrate your calendar and add to it with the app, have had no issues there, works great. I use the notes sections for exactly that, for notes, works great. What keeps this from being 5 stars is the super basic habit tracker, it’d by nice to set a calendar and reminders for them. And also just a basic reminders section would be great, an example would be a section for things like “send out amazon return package” or “pickup kitty litter on the commute home”, things that are random and not scheduled that you dont want to forget. If it had those things it would be a 6 star app for me. I plan on subscribing once my 14 free days are up.

Not ready. Yet

Still Slow. I liked the idea of calendar, notes and reminders in one place. There were the initial bugs so thought I would give it another try. I find it to be slow responding when trying to add events, and especially slow if you change your mind and try to cancel adding the event. My biggest issue though is navigating the calendar. There is no apparent way to scroll through the year to find a specific date. You can jump to any date, but you need to make sure you enter it in a proper date format or it won’t accept it. Since it is a date field, I should be able to enter 12012019 and it should jump to that date instead I get an error. It is slow trying to page through the months - the animation of the page turning seems to get stuck. I also noticed that the developer cites the weather as one of the reasons for the steep price. I don’t see that the weather provides any added value, since every device has weather already, and it is only accurate a few days out. I noticed that there is weather on everyday of the year which I am assuming is just the average for that day - I don’t see the value that adds. Overall, I liked the idea, just not the execution.

Here we go again. Update- I don’t know if the app was changed, but seems you can now try the app for 14 days and it does not require a subscription up front– it also requires you to make an account before subscribing etc, so those complaints have been remedied. I will up the rating as the app matures. So far it’s a nice app, but as another reviewer pointed out, it needs some polishing. The overall app looks clean, but at the same time a bit antiquated (like using cursive fonts, older looking icons, etc). They have the right idea though. I also had some problems with the app crashing even though the app update says it fixed these. I won’t be too critical from here, as I appreciate the developer taking the time to respond to my initial review and I understand every new app has to go through those first few public releases where everything gets ironed out. If the developer(s) continue to work hard on this, I could see it being quite good in time. I have upped from 1 star to 3 stars for the time being. Will update as as development continues. I still hate the subscription model (in general). I understand that there are continued development and maintenance costs, but that can be factored into the price in a long-term strategy, and many rely on continued new purchases of the app in the future. There’s not really an issue of “your pool of potential customers decreases each time you get a new one”... and I believe that model promotes continued competition and development more so than subscription, which (IMO) allows some apps to stagnate. At any rate, the app is now worth a try for all. Original review below- A message to developers: I know that Apple encouraged you all to go to a subscription-based model instead of a pay-once-and-own one, but know this: you’re already shaving off countless would-be paying customers by taking this route. Thing is, this may be a great app. It sure looks so. I’d love to try it, but literally– the first screen you’ll see is the app prompting you to start a trial. In other words, this gives them the authorization to begin billing you (and to continue billing you) at the end of the trial period unless you actively cancel the subscription before the trial period ends. Forgot? No worries. You’ll be reminded when you find the unexpected charge on your credit card. Let me say this– I absolutely despise this business approach, because it is (in my opinion) inherently predatory and dishonest. The developer/company is betting on the fact that you’ll forget to cancel the trial and they will be able to (at minimum) charge you for 1 month of service. Not because you liked their app and decided to pay for it because it was a quality product, but because you forgot or didn’t know how to cancel. The moment I see an app holding a gun to my head, forcing me to sign up for a trial before I have even had the opportunity to try it, I immediately delete it. That’s what I did with this one. You’ve lost a potentially paying customer right off the bat, just as I said in the intro of my review. I’ll find another app that doesn’t have to trick users into subscribing. Again– to developers: please stop this trending practice, for the good of everyone. You’re doing more harm than good.

3.5 stars. Worth a try. There is still potential!. The name of the app has nothing to do with what its about. Didnt know what it was until i opened it. Am i the only one annoyed by this? Opening the app and seeing the beginning capsicum page before the notebook slows us down, even for a second. I like how you can add multiple books. I personally wont be doing that, but for those who want multiple planners, this works. Visual customizations for the notebooks are great! I know another user said they wanted more, and more would be great, but its really not a big deal. Im just happy there are as many options as there currently are. The only thing is that i wish the covers had no graphic texts on them. Users will use this as a planner but some covers says “notes” and one cover says “plan ahead”. Itd be better to remove the graphic text so our own title is written over the cover, not above. I love the weather feature but it takes up more room than it needs to. The double tapes take up a lot of room as well. Tabs look busy. On the daily tab, the page would look cleaner if there was one single plus sign to add the event/todo with a drop down for us to choose then we get directed to the subpage. I like how the subpage to add an event is identical to apples calendar set up. The weekly tab looks so busy with all the plus signs in the to do section and i wish i can remove the birthdays on the weekly tab. Love the goal section on the monthly tab. And i like how monthly birthdays are listed there. I wish the monthly tab gave us a full months view on events/todo, though. time travel needs to be removed. Would rather scroll and click on a month/date/year. The todo list, i like how there is an alert but i hate how you cant set it on repeat. There are lots of things that we have to do on a monthly basis. Good to have the migrate option. I love how there is a daily notes. Please note that typing the notes is almost like HTML which makes it confusing for users who dont know what to do. I thought the editing functions werent working until i clicked out of the notes then saw how the final note looked. The notes part has causes this app to crash twice so far. Im currently on day 1 of trial. One of my favorite things about this is the habit tracker. This was a huge deal for me as there are no apps that i know of to do this. I wish there was a way for us to track the streak if we are doing something every day. I love the list option on the loose leaf page. The notes are great as well. Over all, this app is worth a shot. Like the developers, i like free things, but this is something that i would subscribe to, even on a yearly basis. Yes, there a lot of things that could be done to improve this app, but i will support them by subscribing in hopes of seeing the improvements made. I want them/this app to succeed as this is the best planner/habit tracker collab ive found so far (for me). They cant improve this app for free just as you wouldnt want to work for free.

Love. I LOVE THIS APP BECAUSE ITS SO CLEAR AND EASY TO USE. I LIKE THE IPHONE CALENDAR SO I LIKE HOW THIS APP USES IT I LOVE IT THANKS

Lol @ having to subscribe. No thanks

BS subscription. Getting very tired of useless subscriptions.
