Changes for the worse. Used to be a place to find a handful of recipes with user comments and suggestions. Now it’s a place to use a poorly made user interface to try to struggle through making a meal plan out of recipes that are in a worse format and then buy that meal plan. Not at all what I originally bought, very disappointed in the change. Went from picking a new recipe every week or so to not even opening the app since it has nothing to offer me.

I couldn’t be happier. This app is incredible. For someone who loved meal prepped services- this is an affordable and fun way to plan meals and makes picking up or getting the ingredients delivered. I cannot believe I have not found it earlier. I recommend everyone has this on their phone to stay organized and on top of food prep for you and your family. THANK YOU!

Paying twice for a recipe. The features of the app so far seem very nice and it’s relatively straight forward, but there are major issues across the product offerings she provides. Her website, the app, and the web-store all require separate accounts so there’s no consistency between them. I purchased a meal plan because I like what she does and wanted to support her and shortly after purchased the app only to find that some recipes that are free online that are included in the meal plan aren’t free in the app. I have no issue paying for the meal plan even though the recipes are available online because there are other benefits you get, but paying for the meal plan and then having to pay to access that recipe in the app (that you already paid for) is too much.

Pay to pay more?. First off, I really enjoyed having the recipes in a better format than the blog, but the last update is terrible for loyal readers. We already paid for the app, but now we have to "earn" (pay for) more recipes. I thought it was only going to be pay upfront and get the recipes. That's an ok deal. If it was initially free and I had to pay for recipes that's not terrible either, but paying both ways? No way. Horrible way to make money. There was no mention of having to pay for additional recipes anywhere in the promo materials, either.

Budget is right. I’ve only been using for a few months but the recipes I’ve come across are amazing on here and have become norms in the household and on top of that it really has helped me budget out meals and plan the week so much better than I was before. Was recommended to me by a friend and I recommend to everyone else who needs a single source for both recipes, list making, and meal planning. Plus they add items to your online shopping carts too!

Wonderful app. This app has been a game changer for me. I found it in January 2021 and since then have been cooking delicious, easy, nutritious, and budget friendly meals at home. My household is very happy and we have loved every recipe so far. We have also lost weight due to having tasty meal options at home. Love this app and can’t thank the creators enough.

Is so dysfunctional it doesn’t work, what a rip off. First off, I love budget bytes online. The blog is great: it has price breakdowns of each ingredient if you use the exact amount, it’s easy to search, and it’s free. The app is $3 to even see the app, and then you have to pay more to see 80% of the recipes you can see online for free. The layout is terrible, the search bar is unusable and you can’t get out of it once you tap on it unless you search something and luck out with the home bar coming back, and overall while I bought this on an iPad and it says it’s compatible for the iPad...it’s not at all. I couldn’t even type anything in the search bar or this review when trying to review in app because it won’t allow my Bluetooth keyboard to type AND for whatever reason blocks the iPad on screen keyboard (wether or not my physical keyboard is disconnected). It won’t rotate in landscape view so also weirdly unusable.....and it just point blank doesn’t have a lot of the great recipes and features the FREE site does. The recipes don’t show the cost per ingredient use and take an extra input step (that’s broken) to even see the cost per serving, and the whole app reads more like the cooking channel or some standard food app than budget bytes and all the things that are wonderful about the site. I’m not an old person who’d demand a refund typically but I feel scammed and genuinely feel like I need to ask for my money back. What a rip off!

Why pay twice?. Why do you pay for the app and then pay for the recipes? Usually I come here looking for inspiration so to have to unlock the recipe by paying for it isn't very inspiring. I love the website and will probably just keep using that because you get more variety. If the app were more expensive and then all the recipes were immediately available, that would be better. I'd be happy to pay because the recipes are great and the author seems really genuine.

Wish I didn’t purchase. This app costs three dollars. Then you don’t even get access to all of the recipes on the app. You have to use credits to access recipes. You can earn credits by reviewing recipes and posting pictures. Or you can buy them. I don’t know if this is how recipe apps work these days, but I would’ve never bought this app had I known that I’d have to use credits to look at recipes. Total bait and switch. Lots of people are unhappy about this. You are much better off using the free site. Don’t be an idiot like me and waste three dollars. I WILL BE DELETING ISTANTANEOUSLY!!!!

No-brainer, my favorite recipes. I was in college when I discovered Beth and her recipes on Budget bytes and they helped me eat healthy on a budget. Even though I’m not in college now why would I go anywhere else when I can eat incredibly flavorful food for what Beth says I should spend. She is so creative and I am so excited for her success! Thanks Beth!!!

Total win!. I absolutely love this app. There are endless recipes that are not only delicious and unique but incredibly budget friendly! I love the feature that allows you to change your serving size and adjusts the recipe accordingly. I love the cookbook tool, the cook alongs are amazing, I love the way the recipes are arranged. Seriously worth what you pay for! Thank you!!

Used to love it.... Was a great site, loved it so much I PAID for the app only to be told I now have to earn (forget your 300 credit token gift for a terrible business model change to try and appease angry loyal PAID customers)credits to access new content. Uninstalling and won’t be back, whoever came up with this idea should flat out be fired. As for the developer’s response anyone who changes a paid for app to a pay for content model after the original purpose and doesn’t see the folly in that is undeserving of my money. Should’ve offered refunds to those who purchased prior to this ridiculous change.

Gorgeous app with great features. Wow! This app is set up so beautifully, it’s very pleasing to browse and save recipes. I just made my first recipe last night and I was so impressed by the cook along recipe feature! Click start cooking and the app reads the directions step by step for you and even has integrated timers!!! So perfect. I was initially disappointed that the app and the website don’t talk to each other, so I needed to create another profile and all of my favorite recipes were not ported over to the app. Also, the website has a wonderful grocery list function that the app does not have. I was assuming the app would replace my need to go in the website but I will be using both. The website to plan my meals and the app to view the recipe and cook them. I hope the development team could consider adding these features eventually and it would be truly perfect. Either way I love budget bytes and I’m so glad I finally purchased the app! Highly recommend.

Great app with a few tweaks needed. I have always enjoyed budget bytes recipes online, and I am enjoying the interactivity of the app. Usually I would feel frustrated having certain recipes hated behind in-app currency, but in this case I actually enjoy it because it forces me to work through a few meals at a time without being paralyzed by a whole catalogue of choices. Two things that have been frustrating me are that I can’t seem to delete cookbooks once I’ve created them, which is hurting my desire to keep everything organized. Additionally, when viewing my account, once I go into settings there doesn’t seem to be a “back” button, so the only way to go back to the main account page again is to exit and reopen the app. Looking forward to updates in the future!

Limited recipes. I learned of this app by coming across the website when my husband and I were in a pinch financially. I purchased the app because we loved the website so much. Unfortunately this app does not have nearly as many recipes as the website. Hoping they add to the app as it is more convenient when cooking step by step. For example the website has meal prep guidance and more. Thought the app would give me more since I paid for the app and the website is free.

I love this app!. It’s amazing. I have the free version and use it all the time! There are so many recipes, even for picky eaters like myself. Instructions/ingredients are easy to read and use. You can even change the portion size and it does the math for you on how much to use of each ingredient. 100% recommend!

Great Recipe App, Easy to Unlock Recipes. I really enjoy this app. It is super easy to find what I’m looking for. There are tons of free recipes, and even the ones you need credits for are still cheap. You get started with 300 credits and each recipe costs only 10. You get more credits by using the app daily. My favorite part of the credit system is that you can look at the ingredients list before unlocking the recipe. A longer recipe list or one with lots of ingredients I don’t have will often cause me to choose a different recipe, so I really like that I can see that before using my credits. I love the step-by-step instruction pictures. I really helps clarify anything I have questions about. I wish I had this app a decade ago when I was starting out on my own!

Useful App. I have a select few apps that I open everyday and this is quickly entering my top 5. BudgetBytes helps me with all things food... whether I’m cooking at the fire station, for my family of 6, or meal prepping for me and my wife, this app me with everything! I love the quick math it does when you change the number of servings! Several features here I’ve never seen before on any other cooking platform! Thanks!

What’s the point?. I purchased this yesterday at the recommendation of an acquaintance and am really sorry. Clearly this is geared to people who can’t cook, first of all. My hope was to get some new ideas for interesting but inexpensive recipes—in a straightforward manner. Photo of finished product, recipe, method, and nutritional breakdown would be a good option. Then, of course, there was the issue of getting stuck within the recipe chosen and being unable to return to anything else. Maybe it’s an iPad thing, but all-in-all it wasn’t worth it for this level of aggravation.

Great App, But Hate Micro Transactions. This app is beautiful and a great way to see all of the wonderful recipes that are offered. I happily paid the $3 for the app (and bought the cookbook). However, this whole business of micro transactions makes me feel incredibly frustrated. It's demoralizing to feel like you are being squeezed for all of the money they can get out of you, particularly for recipes that are already free on the website. I enjoyed the app, but will not be using it anymore. I will stick to using the website.

Pretty great app. This app is pretty great. Well worth the small price tag for it. I haven’t made anything yet that I have yet to not like. I take off 1 star because the way the app stores your favorites recipes is bogus. When you go in to a list to look at them, they are always in a different order and you have to refresh the list and then more appear at the top part you’ve already scrolled through. Dumb design. Please fix this and I won’t have any complaints.

One of the best cooking apps I use. I discovered Budget Bytes a few years ago and have used it regularly ever since. In all that time, I don’t think I’ve run into any bad recipes. It’s great that it’s so reliable because I like to make different things all the time, but I have also found favorite recipes that I’ve made over and over. So many of the recipes are healthy, and not very labor-intensive. It kind of brings back your faith in cooking at home, even after a busy day - they show you that something delicious doesn’t have to involve a ton of steps, ingredients, or advance preparation - including desserts! They also just added some great features, like being able to slide recipes right into a meal plan for the week. As a longtime user of the app, I really appreciate the tune-up! I love to cook and use many apps. I promise you that Budget Bytes will be one of your best choices. It honestly never lets me down.

Credit system is clunky. I want to start off this review by saying that I LOVE the blog and I also understand that content creators need to get paid. BUT I purchased the app before the in app purchase/credit feature was added and I feel like I paid for a product thinking I was getting access to one thing and am now being asked to purchase more to get access to what I want. I would be less upset about this if it had been clear when I was purchasing the app that this was going to be the case, but it feels like a bait and switch to me. I do appreciate that you can earn free credits, but the avg recipe is 10 credits, so those free credits don’t really go that far. I would have been happy to pay far more for the app upfront (or a yearly or monthly subscription fee) with the guarantee I was getting access to everything as opposed to this new credit system, which is confusing, hard to use and doesn’t always work properly. Prior to this change, I enthusiastically recommended this app, but the new credits system is not an improvement. If the app developers are reading this, I would highly encourage you to consider a new pricing system - either charge more for the app up front or a monthly or yearly subscription fee. A monthly or yearly subscription fee would help cover some of the cost of new content and continued development of the app, but also allow you to abandon the very clunky credit system.

Technical Issues. Was super excited about the app after using the website. After purchasing, it would not allow me to log in to the account that I already had (but I can log in fine on my laptop and browser). I even created a new password and still could not log in via the app. I decided to settle for making a new account via the “log in with Facebook” option on the app, which worked. However, there is NO OPTION to log in with facebook on the desktop version, so I am stuck with two different accounts!

Really want to love this more. I love the Budget Bytes blog and love the recipes. I just wish I could love the app more. I’m even okay with the credit system for new recipes. My problem is when I take the time to scroll through all the recipes and create cookbooks, I can never seem to load more than the first 15 or so recipes in a cookbook I created. Every time I pull down for more it just takes me to the top of the same recipes and never loads the rest that I have saved in that cookbook. It’s a shame because I love this app, but I am tired of constantly recreating cookbooks or searching for recipes that don’t load in the cookbooks I have saved them in.

My go-to. I’ve been using this app for nearly 3 years now. These recipes are very easy & after awhile you end up having mostly everything you’ll need for them. This app makes it easy to organize your week, shopping list & fill your cookbook. My categories consist of Soup, Sides & Sauces, Chicken, Pastas, Sausage, Ground Turkey/Beef, & Desserts! Some of these recipes can be rather heavy in calories, but it’s easy to make substitutions & customization is available for diet restrictions and/or allergies.

Love this app. Love the app, mostly because I love the blog and the recipes. I’ve used these recipes to save money and get creative with our dinners for almost 2 years now, and just started with the app a few weeks ago. Only critique for the app is that when you pin a recipe to Pinterest (that’s where I keep all my recipes from this and other places) the link doesn’t go to the actual recipe, just opens the app to the front page.

BudgetBytes is the Bomb!. I started using some of these recipes online a few years back when I was in college and loved them. Now as a new mom, using this app with the recipes I love and the features that streamline my meal planning all in one place has been such a life saver! The grocery list builder is awesome. I especially love the feature that allows you to deselect any ingredients you might already have at home and that it combines ingredients that might be used in multiple recipes on your list. The weekly meal planner is great too! We have a lot of fun planning out our week and understanding how to use all of the features was a snap! Do your family and your wallet a favor and get this app!

My go-to. I got into budget bytes right after I graduated college to make affordable meals that were both nutritious and delicious. At that point I was just enjoying the blog but once the app was available I had to get it! Such a reliable and beautiful app for planing my weekly meals 🙌

Disappointment. Upsetting because this had the potential to be a great app. The website is super helpful and when I heard that there was an app, I was excited-only to be disappointed by first having to pay $3, then be prompted to "earn" credits to access the recipes, and the search button doesn't even work. I was searching for some meal prep options and nothing showed up. I'm not sure why the developers are trying to pull a scam when it's got the potential to be great on its own. 10/10 would advise against downloading. Better to just use the desktop site and hope for the best.

Review. Love the site. Love the app. The only thing I recommend is a way to cancel the "start cooking" mode so you don't have to force close the app each time. Most of the premium recipes cost 10 credits. They give you a bunch when you purchase the app. You also get 10 credits for uploading a photo of each recipe you make.... So you really can use the app and not pay more. P.S. Feature Request... Would be nice to have a place to store your upcoming weekly "to cook" recipes, where it could print out a consolidated ingredient checklist (rather than having to add up each recipe manually to see how many cans are needed for 3 different recipes)

Well done!. I love the way this app is put together, and I use Budget Bytes recipes aaaalllllll the time. I actually like the way you can earn credits for more content as well. The 500 recipes are welllll worth the 2.99 the app costs, and I applaud Beth and the creators for having ways to earn access to more content rather than just straight up charging.

I can’t believe this is free. I wish I would’ve known about this amazing recipe blog and its’ app a long time ago. It’s everything you’d want in a meal planning app: delicious recipes that are budget-friendly, a quick and easy meal planner that is simple to use, and not to mention that all of the ingredients can be added to your Walmart cart (and are editable) and can be checked out so quickly. Meal planning has always taken me so long and now it takes hardly any time at all. So grateful for the ability to do this through Budget Bites!

Eager for more content, and more attention to detail. I like that the app walks you through the recipe and the screen stays on while I’m working. However the ingredient names written in green on top of the image of the food was very hard to read and in the first recipe I tried (apple pie overnight oats) the app version doesn’t divide the ingredients so I accidentally added 4x the oats and spices before getting to the milk and being befuddled as to how on earth I would get 2 cups of milk into a 12 oz mason jar. The website accurately splits the ingredients. So I had to futz around taking a cup of (now spiced) oats out of my jars, and we will see what comes out tomorrow in my SUPER spiced overnight oats! On the whole I love the idea it just needs more content and more polish to justify $3 for what I can get more of, more accurately for free online.

Like it except for one thing. I just asked a question in the comments and discovered that once I typed it in I was unable to edit it at all before hitting send. I couldn’t correct it, delete a word, nothing. No chance to fix a typo. No chance to word the question better. I apparently got to the maximum number of characters so I couldn’t complete the last word. When I tried to delete a word and change it I found I was unable to do anything at all - except being forced to hit send. That is enough to discourage me from ever leaving a comment or asking a question. Very annoying aspect of the otherwise nice app. I have the paid version.

Issues with nutrition info, otherwise great app. For some reason the nutrition info given in the app varies wildly compared to the exact same recipes on the website. For example, 1 pizza melt is listed as 817 calories in the app compared to 451 calories on the website. It seems to be affecting a lot of different recipes and it’s annoying to have to open up the site to check nutritional info. Other than that I enjoy the app and use it a lot to get meal ideas.

Disappointed. I got the app thinking I would have access to and could save any recipe only to realize they want me to purchase a bunch of the recipes. Most apps that charge up front give most or all of the app content for free once the app is purchased. Considering you can get most of these recipes, if not all on either Pinterest or Facebook for free I feel ripped off. I felt I was paying for the convenience of all the recipes in one place and easily accessed since they are free other places, just not as organized.

Awesome support, great recipes. Initially I was bummed to download this app and see there was no nutritional info a few months back. I messaged the team to see what was up, because I love the budget bytes site and recipes. They were already on top of adding it to the site and said it should be on there by September. Currently in mid august it’s already up!! I’ve been using the site for years to plan and meal prep and this app makes it even easier. 10/10 recommend

This is awful. So I pay $2.99 for a completely dysfunctional app. Not only do I have to “sign-up” for an app I already paid for, I can’t access recipes without using “credits” to unlock them. How do you get credits you ask? You HAVE to interact with the app on a daily basis, leave reviews, etc. Then you can “unlock” the recipes you seemingly already paid to have. Ridiculous. Are here people trying to emulate EA games? I can tell you it won’t go well. Not to mention the login function didn’t work when I attempted to log in several times. When it finally did work, the app FROZE MY ENTIRE PHONE. I had to depress my power off button and even that wouldn’t work. Suddenly it would come out of the freeze and things would be wonky. Deleted the app and will be asking for a refund from iTunes as this is such a disingenuous way to do business with customers. At least make the app free with all the hoops you make your paid users jump through. I hope this app fails miserably in its current state.

Meal prep budget!. Absolutely love this app! I was constantly researching meal prep bloggers, recipes, and ideas. But, then started realizing that meal prepping started to get costly and it shouldn’t be. I meal prep to stay healthy, to avoid eating out, and to stay within my monthly budget. This app made it easy! It allows me to stay organized every month by allowing me to create “cookbooks”. So every month at the beginning of the month I create a new cookbook of recipes specific to that month. The app allows you to select the amount of servings you’d like so you can easily decrease or increase to the amount that you need. Budget Byters that use the app also leave reviews when they make a recipe, so you can see others feedback and ideas of what they used to replace ingredients. For example, I replace butter with ghee and normally always replace sugar with honey. Definitely recommend for something that’s serious about meal prepping and is on a budget.

This app is great, with just a couple of bugs. I love the diversity of recipes. I couldn’t find one recipe within the app that I found on the website. The other bug is that when I click the heart icon for a recipe it doesn’t register it unless I go back to the list and re-select the specific item and click the plus, back out of that, then the heart icon shows it’s selected.

Super Cool but not worth the $$$. I love Budget Bytes! I love the many recipe options for all occasions and most are simple and quick to make! However, it is not worth paying $2.99 for an app when you have access to it for free online. You don't have access to all recipes like you do online. You have your earn credits to get more recipes. Don't get me wrong, it is a great app for cooking, but if I'm paying $2.99 for an app, I should have access to all the recipes that are available online for free. I am greatly disappointed.

Love Budgeting. I’ve been a fan of the BudgetBytes website for about 2 years. I’m so glad there’s an app because I’ve been wanting to filter by recipe cost, even though the app has it broken down by serving cost which is fine. I’m having fun organizing my favorite recipes by total per meal in the app cookbooks based off the serving cost provided. It would be nice to be able to search within your Cookbook or favorite recipes or to even search within those sections by an ingredient.

Nice app. I have been a fan of Budget Bytes for a while so I thought I'd try the app. I like it so far--I like having the recipes handy at the store and in the kitchen without excessive googling or having to write things down. I just signed up so I can't speak to the login issues of others. Overall it's been so convenient for me that it's worth the price tag.

5 stars: don’t let the low score fool you. This is an amazing app! A digital cookbook of 500 recipes for $3 is a great deal. And, more importantly, the recipes are delicious and help you save money while also LEARNING how to use simple ingredients to ear healthy. I use this app on a daily basis. The star score is lower because folks were upset when a credit based marketplace update was implemented, but all these folks just wanted things for free and didn’t understand the amount of time and education required to create the step-by-step videos w voiceover that come with this package. App developers have modified this credit system, so now there is no reason to pass up buying this cookbook.

Disrespects fans of the blog. As an app developer, it is a deeply negative experience to have found out that I need to pay for additional recipes after already paying $3. The app developers and the author were not honest and did not do enough user testing with the audience of the blog and have only alienated their core audience. The only way to rectify this is to make it free and ad supported, and have the option of purchasing a premium version with all extra recipes included. You are getting valuable feedback here - don't be arrogant and not listen to your fans here, or else your brand is gonna be sullied.

Stick to the blog, don’t waste your money. The app only has a fraction of the recipes online, and its search feature and filters are a bit useless. I love supporting what I appreciate via pay walls / apps / patreons, but this was a waste of money. The ‘filter’ let’s you choose between four or five primary ingredients, which isn’t that helpful since ‘Chicken’ is usually in the name and could be searched for. The filter should let you search for things with multiple ingredient criteria, and have many more options accordingly. Your recipes are great btw, I’ll continue reading the blog!

Blown Away. Don’t walk, run to download this! I was so pleasantly surprised when I learned that Budget Bytes had an app! I didn’t have too high of expectations but was absolutely blown away by not only it’s aesthetic but also it’s features. This is an incredible app and will be my go to for meal planning and everyday grocery needs.

Great for the Young Millennial. I just recently moved halfway across the country after graduating college and joining the military. When I first settled into my apartment, none of my personal affects had arrived. I had a skillet, some tongs, and a spatula. I used this app, with it’s handy instructions and tips, to feed myself on a budget. People wonder where there paycheck goes at the end of the month, and the answer is it’s all spent on food! With this app I was able to get a better handle on my dining expenses, while not sacrificing quality or quantity.

Broken search and irritating credits. I love the website, but the app is a worse experience, not better. I can’t search for and find recipes I’ve already found online to save them to my cookbook. I have to pay to access recipes I have access to for free on the website. The credits system just makes me want to never use this app. A flat price up front? Fine. A subscription? Fine? Your users’ first experience with this app is paying for it, then being asked to pay more to cook any of these ‘budget’ recipes. I wish I could like the app associated with such a good website.

Not a good range of recipes. I bought the app so I could neatly organise the recipes I liked off the website, but none of the ones I wanted were available on the app. Pretty disappointing.

Awesome recipes. Really good food and they’re actually cheap. Bit annoying that each recipe needs to be bought after paying for the app.

Okay but not great. This app has so many good features but the website has way more recipes than the app does. It’s annoying when I find a recipe I like but I cannot save it to the app!

Don’t like the marketplace. I bought this app because I like the recipes shared on budget bytes Facebook page. I didn’t feel there was many selection of recipes to begin with but I thought I’d get new recipes with updates. It is very disappointing to know that after the upgrade, I have to buy recipes to add new recipes. If I had known, I wouldn’t have bought this app even though we can get credits for “free” by visiting the marketplace from time to time (no thank you).

I love the app but would love a shopping list function. I am loving these meals and the easy use of the app! I would love to see a shopping list function for when you place recipes in a favorites and it then gives you a shopping list of all the items for the selected recipes 😊

Amazing!. Great tool!

Needs work. I can’t get the back button to work for the life of me not can I get it to view horizontally on my iPad. There are some great features with timers and videos. You have to buy or earn credits for addition recipe bundles which I wish I knew before I bought it. That kind of bugs me.

Great Recipes!. I’ve been a fan of budget bytes for a long time, recipes are so tasty and very easy to follow! I would say the app is worth every penny except for the fact you now have to pay for “credits” to unlock certain recipes. I don’t like having to pay for an app and then also pay for things within the app. There are ways to earn free credits, and most of the popular (and my favourites) recipes are part of the free ones included in the original purchase of the app. You can find all of her recipes for free on her website, but the app is worth the money if you are looking for a step by step walk through and an ad free browsing experience.

Ok but website is better, even on mobile. Ok for some local caching, but I would prefer the look and feel of the website relative to the app, even on mobile. App is sometimes slow and buggy but performance on website is clean & slick.

Great app. Beth is an amazing chef! I have her cookbook and follow her blog closely. Her recipes are delicious and kid approved! You will not regret the investment. I look forward to making something delicious tonight. App is easy to use and tutorial is great.

Not all recipes included. The design of the app is very good, but my favourite recipes from the blog aren't here! It's a bummer, because I only found that out after paying for the app.

Great family meals. These recipes are the ones I keep coming back to week after week as a working mom. Fits my budget and most of the one pot dishes feed two adults and a toddler for two meals. Lots of flavour and variety without trying too hard or becoming pretentious like so many other recipe cites. Easy instructions and easy to make recipe books for saving the ones you like.

You have to buy the recipes?. I bought the app looking forward to using the recipes as I do follow the blog. I just went to use the app, but it seems to actually get the recipe I have to pay for each individual recipe. Very disappointing.

Beautifully designed app for cooking. The content was already great. Having an app that was actually designed to be used in the kitchen is so nice.

Great App!. I follow Beth’s blog and bought the app as soon as she announced it. It’s one of the better cooking apps out there. Haven’t encountered any bugs, even from the get go, and she consistently updates with more recipes.

Oh! My! Tastebuds. I don’t think there’s a recipe that my family don’t like! I’ve be loving BB recipes WAAAAYYYY before the app was available and I’m still loving it!

Very Disappointing! Don’t bother. I’m writing as a faithful user of the original online site. But very disappointed with this app version. For one thing, you have to be online to use it, so really, what’s the point? Oh right, so we can be tracked and turned into a revenue stream. But then again, that’s why I paid up front for this app in the first place...to help thank you for all your hard work, and so I’d have the promised “500 recipes” available offline. But we don’t even get that. So what’s the point of this app at all? Sad.

I lovED this app…. I’ve been using budget bytes for ages. Such a huge fan of every recipe. I’ve loved watching the creator grow and more people find the recipes. I was so excited for the app I got it as soon as it was available, bought it for friends and for my nieces going to college, then this last update…bummer. All of my saved recipes gone. The categories gone, now I switch apps, come back to my recipe and I have to find it again. Super bummed about this!

Great app, hate the new version. I have been using this app for over a year and have a couple cookbooks with recipes I use over and over. They are easy to follow and generally great recipes. However this new update that makes you use points to unlock recipes (even ones you’ve saved and use multiple times) is annoying. What happens when you run out of points? I almost want to drop two stars from the rating for this and not just one.

Loads of delicious recipes. I love having all these amazing recipes at my fingertips. My only request is to be able to make my own notes to the recipes so I remember what worked and didn't work in the future.

almost there. This app is almost perfect but doesn't support landscape mode, making it really cumbersome to use with an iPad

Great recipe/cooking app!. I've been following this lovely ladies blog since I started university several years ago and now into cooking for two. These recipes are great for people on a budget or for people who aren't fond of cooking or aren't skilled cooks. She gives you easy to follow step by step instructions that keep you on track so your meal comes out great every time! My boyfriend has already picked all his favourites from the app for us to make! Totally worth a few bucks for easy access to some great recipes and a cooking coach. Hopefully she will add even more if this app does well.

Easy, tasty food. Recipes are easy to follow and consistently deliver great taste on the first try and better taste with small adjustments thereafter. I went from almost no cooling ability and now cook lunches and dinners using this app and the “how to cook everything” book. When I host friends for dinner I often get asked for the recipes. Only annoyance is that there are no metric cooking measurements.

Would give 0 if I could. Paid $3.99 for this and it will not even let me sign up. Tried via Facebook and email and it just doesn’t let me go any further

Can't access recipes. Love the website but the Facebook login won't work, email signup doesn't work, like it's not connecting to the server or something, and it won't let me skip signing up. It just goes back to the login screen. So I can't actually use the app.

Handy App - great recipes. Have used this app a few times for recipes for busy weeknights, love the step by step (I don’t need this as much but it’s great for my boyfriend who is more intimidated by cooking) there was an error in one recipe where it omitted a quantity while you were in the step by step and it was impossible to go back and retrieve it, but otherwise I’ve been really impressed and happy with this app.

Eliminating the food blahs without blowing the budget. I am out o my food rut thank to BudgetBytes, eating healthier (and losing weight), and my food spending is half what it once was. Love the app too.

A stale and forgotten app that I spent money on. I love Budget bytes and follow the website, bought the book, and even spent money on credits on this app. Here we are more than a year with no update. I have purchased all the recipes I want but still have credit I paid for to use. I expected new recipes to spend my credits on at least a couple times a year. If I had known it would not be updated with new content I would not have spent the money on credits. It makes me less likely to ever spend money in anything from budget bytes ever again.

Worth it. The app is worth it. For $3 you get a large selection that would be in a $20 cook book. My only complaint is the recipe I found online that drew me here isn’t on the app when I search for it.

Disappointed.. I love this website and I was super excited to buy the app. I’m disappointed that now you have to earn credits to unlock bonus recipes. I already paid for the app, I shouldn’t have to pay additional money to get access to recipes! I’m really disappointed B.B. decided to take advantage of their subscribers and try to milk them for their money. Not very budget friendly after all.

Delicious Recipes and economical ingredients. These recipes are delicious! My favorite part is the types of ingredients. Inexpensive and common ingredients, makes for less waste. The app is easy to navigate. Easy to keep recipes in files

Great app!. Great recipes that tell you the exact amount your spending per portion. It also has a few different diet options, but honestly all of the recipes seem to be a little calorie conscious, oh and the food tastes great! Thank gosh I finally found something that will save me money.

Great recipes but..... I truly love the recipes but I just deleted the app after the update, because I'm not interested in learning how to "earn" access to more content. I would rather have paid more for the app up front.

Where’s nutritional info???. I bought this app to make it easy to filter recipes and menu plan than searching on the website. What I love about the website is that it includes the nutritional info. But the app doesn't? Hopefully this will be fixed on future updates.

Awesome, but could use a check list feature!. It would be awesome if there was a check list for each recipe for going to the grocery store. Otherwise great app

Nice app. Crappy business model.. I bought the app because I’m such a big fan of Budget Bytes and Beth’s recipes. I was happy to pay up front, thinking I’d basically get a reformatted version of her website. But that doesn’t appear to be the case. Had no idea I’d be expected to basically pay to get access to certain recipes. It’s a nice looking app, but I’m not a fan of in app purchases for recipes, in a recipe app that I paid up front for.

Budget Bliss. I’ve tried quite a few recipes and they’ve been really good. I like being able to find a variety of recipes in one place and they’re easy on my budget! Keep the recipes coming!

Great meals and easy recipes!. Budget bytes is my favorite cooking website! Can you please add back an option to see quantities in ounces for things like canned food? This is really helpful when shopping! Thanks

Nutritional Info?. I was happy to pay for this app as I’ve used the website for free for a while. What I don’t understand is where is the nutritional info? This is super important to me as I track my meals. It looks like some of the recipes have the nutritional info on the website and not the APP? I don’t really want to purchase more recipes if they don’t have nutritional info :(

Love budget bytes!!!!!!. I love budget bytes and have been using it for years. Best recipes I have come by! I wish the app still included some of the items I like from the site.

Poor Design. At first this app was interesting but now it has a terrible tendency to not load elements, making it extremely difficult to do ANYTHING. Add to this the nonsense concept of paying for recipes I can freely search on the website for AND not being able to share cookbooks, I question what the purpose of this. Please address the functionality problems and maybe it’ll be worthwhile

Old site is gone. I enjoy Budget Bytes, but was surprised when the website I am use to was gone. Your old point system kept me on track. I no longer have my cookbooks and I assume my reviews are also gone. Your new webpage looks great, but I miss the old one.

Missing Recipes. I really like the app except sometimes I can’t find recipes on it that I find on the site or view on Instagram. For example, I recently did a search for slow simmered black eyed peas and greens and got nothing. If that problem could be fixed, the app would get five stars.

LOVE!!. I was looking for a way to make slashes to my grocery budget and this app has helped tremendously. My husband and my 7 year old have loved the recipes and I’ve loved cooking new things with new ingredients I’ve never used before (lentils, cabbage).

Yum. It seems now that I discovered Budget Bytes, most of my dinner ideas come from this site. Simple recipes that you don’t have to go out and buy special ingredients.

Great recipes, weird app. I paid for the app and for the recipes. Why do I have to earn additional credits to access all of the recipes? I thought that was the point of buying the app. Am I using it wrong? Beth’s recipes are the best, but I am not buying the app to hang out on it and play a game. This is a reference for me. I’d pay more to make that nonsense go away and just get access to all of the recipes from the start.

Great, easy cooking app. I like these recipes a lot and the setup of the app is great. I love that you don’t have to scroll back and forth between the ingredients and the directions. I also like that I can create cookbooks, which I do for weekly meal planning.

Cheap and Fancy!. Perfect for beginners learning to cook and step by step instructions. The only thing I would add is a shopping list. This is a good way to keep everything fresh and exciting without the price tag! Your food will look like it came out of a four star restaurant.

Love the search. I don't usually buy apps but i really like this one because of all the features. Search is easy to useand they have fun categories. Lots of recipes. I would love for notes feature. Thanks

Pay more for more recipes. I love Budget Bytes, but wish she didn’t choose this app development company. This is a terrible business model. Nobody wants to pay for an app, then continue to pay to see more content. Should have had a free download, then a *one time* upgrade option that allowed people to see all the recipes. Or just make the app ~$10 from the start. Just hate that this app company is tarnishing the Budget Bytes brand!!!

Bait and switch. I bought this app when it was first released, because I’d been using the website for years. I understand a lot of work has gone into it, but I feel like consumers should have been told upfront that we’d have to pay for more features. I would have paid more money upfront rather than open an app everyday or buy credits. Honestly, I think it’s shady. Be upfront about your business model.

Awaiting. This app is fun but lacking alot of recipes i feel from its website so not quite worth the money just yet but im still happy to have it, i cook these recipes all the time with my friend. I am excited and hopeful to see dozens more introduced to this app that makes it more worth it, buy it now buy it later its still great

Great flow to the app. The app has a great flow with unique cooking functions allowing you to set timers for each step along with videos that integrate correct cooking techniques! As a college student I love knowing how much roughly the meal will cost before I decide to actually go to gather ingredients.

Frustrating. I find it really frustrating to find a great recipe on the blog and not be able to find it because it isn’t available on the app. I purchased this first thing because of the great blog but am really disappointed they have since added recipes that need to be paid for. Even with free credits. That was added after I purchased the app. I’ll stick with the blog on my desktop.

Simple and cheap recipes. The app is easy to navigate, and they have a large library of simple recipes using low cost ingredients. Recipes include step by step photos, so even novices can use them.

Favorite of all time!. Budget Bytes is my favorite blog ever, and it’s so nice to have it in a pretty and convenient package like the app! This blog is the reason I can cook at all (and now love to!). I’m no longer pinching pennies like I used to but this remains a favorite because I will always love a practical and DELICIOUS recipe!

Helpful for college student new to cooking. Very good cookbook! It has detailed recipes and a price breakdown for all ingredients which is really helpful for college students on a budget like myself. A wonderful resource and I find myself mostly making recipes from this app. Thanks, Beth!

Budget Friendly, Healthy, Delicious!. I love that the app gives you the price per serving of each dish! I’ve found many new and delicious recipes that are not only affordable, they’re easy to make. Most of them are also really healthy.

Meal Planning is a breeze. Budget Bytes makes meal planning a breeze. It adds ingredients to a list and you can pick it up on your way home. Super easy to use. Has all kinds recipes that meet every dietary preference.

Slow cooker yum. I'm a big fan of budget bytes, especially her slow cooker recipes. They're easy and even better in this app format because there's videos that teach me how to improve.

Please fix search to include “bought” recipes. I like the recipes and the app in general. Having to “buy” additional premium recipes is a little annoying bu really does not cost any real money. What is really annoying is that recipes that you buy do not show up in the search. It that was fixed I would rate it 5 stars.

Amazing recipes for all budgets!. Wow. I have cooked several of the recipes and they all come out perfect every time, from a novice cook! I use mainly organic ingredients so my cost is higher, but the straightforwardness of the ingredients and instructions is exactly what I needed! Delicious staple flavors!

Some issues. So the token system is lame, but I look at the web page A LOT and get whatever recipes that aren’t on this app from there, no big whoop. The real thing that makes me give this one star is there is effectively no ‘back’ button. The ‘x’ or the ‘<‘ symbols in the upper left must be there for decoration because they sure as heck don’t work. Wanna add a recipe to your cookbook? Well now the app lives in the cookbook cuz there’s no going back to the actual recipe. For a paid app this is unacceptable.2

I hate that I have to sign up. I don't want junk mail, don't make me sign up for an app I already paid for. I like the recipes--nice photos and clear instructions, but now I can't save any. Also, the cost is fairly dishonest. Sometimes it says I need a small amount of something but I have to buy the entire package of it, which easily increases the cost per recipe by many dollars. Something to keep in mind if you think you're saving money.

I like it… but they should add…. Hi the app is great, especially if you’re new to cooking. But… Im definitely the type of person who hates going to the grocery store. This app… should let you favorite the specific meals you want to make for the week and then tell you all the exact amount of ingredients to buy… Such as if a meal for tonight take 2 bananas and my next two meals at the end of the week need 4 bananas The app should tell me to buy 6 bananas at the store during my trip to the store. This app would be PERFECT if it had that feature. Thank you!

Very functional. I like the app, but I wish there was a way to make notes on the recipes I saved. I almost always make notes when I cook, and I would love it if the app allowed me to do that.

Ap is badly designed. Budget bytes the site is fantastic, but this Ap is badly designed. I had to click the heart four or five times before it would keep the like on the recipe. Touching the share icon sends a link to the AP not the RECIPE I had been intending to share. There’s no easy way to comment on a recipe other than to scroll forever through all the instructions. Very disappointed.

Worth the money. I am a “free app” gal, so I was wary of purchasing this app even though I have always loved Budget Bytes. I am so glad I bought it! There are so many features that I’ve never seen on an a cooking app before! I am in love!

Has in-app currency. Idk I’m bummed out with this app. I just discovered the website and I love it. The app has some great features, but it’s clunky and doesn’t have all the recipes that (can be found for free) on the website. Also there is an in app currency system where you have to buy certain recipes, not what I had in mind when I got the app to save money on food costs 🤷‍♀️

PERFECTION!!. I absolutely love this app! It’s impressive. Helps with meal ideas, can place orders straight to your local grocery store for online shopping. It’s well organized and easy to navigate.

Email issues. I’m having problems with my email in the app. I can’t send ingredients for recipes to my email because the app says I don’t have email set up in settings, but there’s nowhere in settings to set up email? I see where I can change the password, but that’s all I can see regarding email.

Allow me to select recipes and create a grocery list. Please add a feature so I can pick N recipes and generate a grocery list from them. Would be nice if it could export to Notes so I could check off ingredients I already have.

Why?. I don’t understand why I paid for the app but now have to get credits to unlock recipes. I love the BB website and thought this would be an easier way to look at recipes as I’m making them, but apparently I’m limited in what I can see, so really I do still have to go through the website. Frustrating.

❤️ Budget Bytes!. I love all of Beth’s outlets - I started reading her blog almost 10 years ago and also have her cookbook. I love the app, too! The functionality continues to improve as more recipes are added. I love all the recipes and the step by step instructions!

Pay to pay?. This app is meant to save you money. You purchase the app for $3 then they ask you immediately to spend more money on credits? That’s a bad customer experience. Please correct this by being more upfront with your customers. Also a shopping list compiler would be a really cool feature to add. Change these aspects and this is a 5 Star app.

Soooooo Disappointed. I got this app because I love the website but the app is pointless. The website and the app have nothing to do with each other. You can’t save recipes on the website and then access them on the app. Recipes that are on the website are not available on the app. The app does not have the grocery list feature. There are so many other free apps that do all of the above. Wish I would have saved my $2.99.

Love this app. I didn’t even mind paying extra for premium recipes! I’ve used it tons and have been planning meals with it exclusively for weeks. The only thing I wish is that is had a grocery list builder! I also use Mealime and I love their grocery lists!

Loved it. Now hate it.. The micro transactions are frustrating. It makes me not use the app because why should I have to pay more for something I already purchased. And the comments from the developer saying this "wasn't their intention". Yes it was. You made the choice to add micro transactions to an app that was already paid for. Unacceptable. Also, this is a cooking app. For recipes. It doesn't have to be, nor should it be, "fun". I want to cook, not to play
