Super great app for people of all skills!. So I would consider myself an intermediate player and I got a card for this app that came with my Fender Acoustic. So i decided to try it and it’s absolutely amazing! I didn’t think I could learn so many recognizable riffs in just a couple hours. My only real complaint though is the feedback mode. It’s a great system but it only works once and I have to close out the app to get it to work, which is a bit annoying. Overall, great app to learn not just guitar but music theory, and i know bass and ukelele is in there too! ez 5 stars

The BEST App For Guitar!. I have an electric guitar (Fender Squire Strat) and I love it! When you get the starter package, it comes with a 3-month membership card. The lessons are short and straightforward. I only have to pause 1-3 times per video depending on how fast they go (I don’t arch my fingers as well as they do). I haven’t had any trouble. There is a cool mark as done feature just in case you know a lesson or two’s worth of stuff, you can skip it. The app also asks how much knowledge you have. I have ADHD and haven’t been able to put the guitar down! I would rate it ♾/10! Would recommend! Thank you so much Fender!

Login Problems & Subscription Problem. In all it’s a great app, when it lets you log in. I finally decided to get a subscription so I choose plan. Got a message stating that signing up for the subscription was successful. Next window pops up asking to choose a plan or sign in. So each time I signed in It kept displaying the message, Choose a plan. And I check my subscription list in my settings and it shows up as currently subscribed to Fender play. I already contacted customer support and I have yet to hear back. The four stars are for when it works and let’s you sign in. When it was free it worked very well. So if it’s ok with Fender let go back to the free trial at least then it let me login.

Just started it. So it looks good. I am a new to the guitar and I’m am excited about learning. This ap seems like it’s made to accommodate even the slowest learners. Some improvement, I use this app on my phone and in practice mode the screen doesn’t turn sideways. This is a hide problem because the music sheet is small and harder to read. Rotate it so it’s mandatory and let the music sheet run across the screen (from right to left). Have a stationary colored bar align with the notes you’re suppose to play when you’re suppose to play them. Please add an option where I can play with the song so I know what I’m suppose to sound like. It could be a simple switch. Either play with or without the music. Thank you for the app.

I’ve been looking for a way back. Through this app, Fender has made it possible for me to re-learn how to play guitar and bass. I enjoyed playing so much throughout my teens and early twenties, then real life hit hard. Being a parent, undergrad/grad school, and working full time has taken away so much of my free time, but now I can have my lessons without having to travel. Moreover, I can dedicate at least an hour a day to practice now, and I have an extra incentive to practice with the weekly prize drawings. This experience brings a lot of missed fun back into my day. Thank you Fender!

For those intermediate players. If your like me, you have some experience with the guitar. You know barr chords, you know a lot of songs and you want to take that next step. This is not the app to take that next step. This app is for people who have never played guitar in their life before. I downloaded this app to find out that for me, everything was too easy. In the beginning of the lessons, sometimes the instructor will play a really cool lick that I would like to learn but instead, you do the very basic version of what he just did. I felt like he/she just teased me in that moment. FOR BEGINNERS, I TOTALLY RECOMMEND THIS APP. But when you want to take that next step, go somewhere else.

Good at the start but progresses WAY too fast!. I liked this from the start but I am in the second level and the instructors do an absolutely terrible job at informing the viewer of what is coming up next in a chord progression. The tab doesn’t show up so I can’t follow along. It also doesn’t scroll so I can’t play along event Shawn the tab does show up. I can’t even pause to practice because the video control blocks the list of chords. So many things add up to a terrible experience. I wish there was a way that I could play along more easily. The instructors need to pause between chord progressions. You can’t assume everyone can just jump right in and be perfect at it. I will still use this app but it’s really not the experience I wanted. I think o might go back to You Tube. I think I learned at a more steady pace. Frustration. I have thrown my pick down more than once because of how poorly these “instructors” actually instruct. I watched 4 videos in a row on what the strings were called but when it comes to chord progressions they fly right through it. Sad.

Good but seems like better options out there. I’m a beginner, and while I like fender play, it’s missing a couple things that would make it much better. A simple thing is that the tabs don’t scroll along with this lesson, or auto scroll when you practice on your own. Consequently, you can’t see the sheet music while you’re playing along. You can only see one line at a time. It’s a simple thing but has really hampered my progress. Also I don’t know why they don’t include the lyrics along with the tab, they even say how you should sing along with the song, but don’t make that available to you. I signed up for the full year, and now I regret it because I think I’d rather try something like yousician that gives you feedback as well as has these other features.

Old guy trying to learn to play. Fender Play has been the BEST instruction for someone like me in my mid to late 50’s trying to learn to play guitar. I have had fender play just over a year now and it’s been great being able to repeat or move on if I feel ready or even sometimes just feeling I need to move on to do something new. My fingers aren’t the best in transition, but I can tell that I have gotten better in the last year by quite a bit. I’m just still very raw I guess due to my age and never having played before. I love the instructors throughout all the levels and I love that all the lessons are like quick hitters and then you practice and then they teach you a riff from so many different songs. I just hope I can see this through and actually be playing someday even this late in my life.

Adult learner. As an adult learner I have found the fender app/website to be extremely useful. I can play it on any device i have and the video/audio quality is never subpar. That means i can take my guitar anywhere and play lessons from my phone, which is helpful when I have a bit of free time in between the events in my day. The instructors and instructions are clear and I like the fact they show a variety of camera angles when teaching chords and techniques. Best of all, I can revisit each video as many times as a need to, work at my own pace, and move ahead when i feel new information might be helpful to mastering previous techniques or to add variety. Overall, excellent job Fender. One MAJOR request that I have since I am coming from previous experiences playing piano and vocals, is that you provide lessons on how to transpose music from standard notation to tab and back again so I can use the music book i have collected over the years to play the songs I love. Thanks again Fender!

Getting scammed. When I purchased a new guitar from Fender, it came with a voucher for 2 free weeks of the fender play app. I signed up online, downloaded the app and followed the steps. Unfortunately the app didn’t seem right for me so the day before the trial ended I tried cancelling, only to find out I can’t! When I try to cancel in app, it redirects me to a web page. My options there are to cancel online (which I cannot do because it says I signed up on the app and have to cancel through my apple ID) and yet when I called apple support they said there is no record of me signing up on the app. Somehow I did not sign up on the app, but fender says I did, so I have no record anywhere that I signed up but I’m still getting charged and fender hasn’t replied to my emails

Rewarding but flawed. I’ve been learning for about 2 weeks from the app and I’ve been getting quite annoyed by the videos themselves. They’re unresponsive at time when trying to rewind, pause or to even access the video controls. And that when the video controls are up, the block the chord progressions. It makes it worse that you can’t pause the video without blocking the progressions. I’ve also been having trouble with the app loading up, but none of the content appearing, and only for it to crash when tapping the “levels button.” Other than these specific annoyances the information is remarkably good. You learn with a mixture of slow exercises to then utilize them in songs. All while practicing various other things

Excellent App. The Fender Play app is extremely well made and organized. I decided to pick up guitar during the lockdown and this app has lessons that are a good size where you feel meaningful progress can be made while still being able to pause whenever you like. The video instructions are quite well done. Being able to review previous videos and training material is a great plus. The app also seems to offer plenty of tutorials on how to play songs. I haven’t spent much time on those since I still a beginner but they seem equally well done as the rest of the app.

Awesome app. This is an awesome app! We bought a guitar for my son for Christmas, his guitar came with three months free lessons with this app. We started yesterday, it’s so easy to understand and follow. No getting frustrated because they advance too fast. The lessons are broken down into bite size pieces, followed by a round of practicing what you just learned. They make it exciting enough by throwing you some new techniques so you don’t get bored. I’m highly enjoying learning guitar with him and this is THE perfect app to use (I also highly suggest getting their tuner app, works great)

Beginner. I wanted to learn how to play guitar so I thought to try this app. Not only do they teach you how to play the guitar they make it fun, for example, they give you riffs from the song path you choose. Meaning, I choose the rock path and it gave me a short riff from another one bites the dust. This makes me want to continue playing the guitar and make me excited about it. Fender guides you and breaks it down for you, you won’t get it right away but practice makes progress. So I highly suggest this app!!

Another Request. I’m enjoying the app; however, it is difficult to follow the tabs, even on my iPad Pro, because the video takes more than half the screen. Online, via the website, when you scroll up on the tags, the video minimizes and gives you a larger view of the tabs, which makes following along so much better. How is it that the online version has more features than the app? Also, it sure would be nice if the tabs were synchronized with the video, at least then I wouldn’t need to try scrolling as much. That being said - my fingers hurt, so I must be doing something right.

I’m so thankful for gender play. I’m so glad we are all still in there a little time for a quick trip and we are staying up there until late afternoon so I will miss it and we can just stay there with the kids and we will be there in the mail and I have a few minutes to come grab them up from there so we are just going around back to get back in to the house so we will be in the mail tomorrow for a little while to go sit at the church I’m so glad

Not worth the money. I downloaded the app without paying much attention to the details. (Stupid move). So a few days later my cc is charged $11- The MONTHLY fee. So I said what the hell, might as well take advantage of my purchase. I was thinking it would be interactive as in the app would “listen” to your playing and if you passed the course you would then move on to more advanced lessons. Well this is definitely not that. It’s essentially a bunch of videos where they baby step you into guitar playing. There’s no music, no graded progression... the play along literally gives you a link to the iTunes version of the song, so you can buy that and play along. I can’t believe I wasted $11 and furthermore had I not canceled I would have been paying 11 bucks every month for a bunch of video clips of someone playing guitar. Just not what I was expecting. Maybe it’s the right format for some people but not me. I hate this app. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because the app is well made from a clean, easy to navigate standpoint.

Great App for budding intermediate guitarist. Started playing guitar at the beginning of Covid. I haven’t put it down since. This is my second ‘self taught’ app I’ve used and I feel like this is progressing my skills and ability to the next level. Pros: - Video instruction for virtually every type of lesson, song, etc. This was huge for me and helped me grasp concepts and figure placements much quicker). - Logical and robust course design with real world considerations. Lessons aren’t limited to guitar technique. Courses range from music reading, knowing your guitar, theory, amp and tone, and so much more. Basically everything you need to become a competent guitarist (at least from my understanding as to what that is at this stage in the game...lol). - Along w/ Video instruction there you can view preset tones for a given song or lesson, tabs, chord diagrams, and effect playback speed. Cons: - Lots of content but not a good way to organize what’s relevant outside of the course structure. (For Developers/UX designers PLEASE SEE SUGGESTION below) Suggestions: - Develop a way for a user to organize content relevant to him or her. Right now you can ‘Love’ a piece of content and it’s saved in your favorites in the order of when you ‘Loved’ a particular piece of content. This becomes next to useless the more items you have tracked (I.e. various lessons, songs, etc.) It would be BETTER if you could create folders or some type of personalized lesson plan.

It is the best!. I am so happy about this app but one thing about it is that it cost $50 a month after your 2 week trial but other that that it is the best way to learn your ukulele I definitely recommend it to you it has been my 3 week of learning the ukulele and I have been taking my time I usually practice every other day after school I am now learning to transition into different notes and the best part is you can ask questions to who ever is teaching you I am a little bit weird but I like to play my ukulele backwards and they said it is ok as long as I tone it backwards so I did and I am having no trouble with this app what so ever they also show videos on how to do everything step by step I definitely recommend this to you and if you get this app I really hope you love it as much as I do!

Pretty fun for an old guy. I didn’t know where to start when I decided to learn how to play the guitar. So I went to a pawn shop and bought a 50 dollar guitar and then found the Fender app. This thing is great. I can use it once a day or three times a day. It is ready whenever I have time and the lessons start just where I need them to start, right at the beginning. So having turned 61 years old I have found something that I am clearly horrible at that I plan to get better at. That’s pretty cool for an old guy and the Fender app is making it possible.

Erratic Tabs & Difficulty, NO LEFTY SUPPORT. Chords marked with decreasing text sizes and chord graphics are gone. Nearly impossible to read at a glance. Tabs jump all over. Trying to learn to play not read music. Repeats may save trees for printed music but are totally unjustified in electronic formats. Very frustrating how measures are shown three different sizes. Wildly changing degrees of difficulty from lesson to lesson add to the frustration. Some practices are too fast even at half speed, not many but some. App seems to be erratic about tracking your progress. Today I’m not getting credit for practicing. Updates to Streaks would be nice if they worked but are just as or maybe more unreliable as older versions. If I hadn’t paid for a year I’d probably be looking at other online tutorials by now. The Fender name isn’t benefiting from this app in its current form.

Making it easier to follow along. I recently bought my 1st guitar a squire strat fender, I love almost everything about this app. Only thing is when the instructor is telling playing music with us we have to listen to them tell us to switch vs reading the chords. It’s extremely hard playing my guitar and the instructor playing his and trying to listen to his voice for the change. We should be able to read them music as we are playing not just hear the instructor. Maybe adding the chords to the bottom on the video so it is much easier keeping up and following along.

Love it, but can you add 7-String lessons as well. This app has help me move from playing in private to not being embarrassed at all to play in front of people (on bass and guitar). All in the span of two years. I now have my kids using it, and I love being able to switch paths easily and learning the songs, which helps me write my own songs. Will there ever be a 5-String bass and 7-String guitar lesson added? I have a 5-String bass and learned through experimenting how to incorporate the B string. I plan on getting a 7-String guitar, and it would be great to have pros show me, to avoid experimenting. Would take nothing away from the app, here’s an extra ⭐️

Needs more music.. For what it is; it’s a great app to learn from, but what I hate is the lack of varied music genres: pop, rock, blues, and country are wide terms for music, and their over all choice of songs is lacking. Especially in the rock department, as far as I could find because of a lack of an actual search option: I couldn’t find any Metallica, FFDP, and only a few AC/DC if I remember correctly. I guess I’m just mad that Fender bought, then shut down Riff Station. I hadn’t found any other app that allowed you to learn the very basics of any song from my obscure favorite of Der Erste Schritt with it’s beautiful acoustic to literally anything Linkin Park. I’d gladly pay the subscription if they had an eighth of the songs.

Unable to restore purchase—how convenient for Fender. I’d love to use this app and review its features, but after setting up a new phone and installing Fender Play, I’ve gone through initial set up, and reached the subscription selection page, only to find that the “Restore Purchase” button, which is minuscule and tough to find, is also unresponsive—nothing happens when it is clicked. So my only option to move forward is to select a new, ADDITIONAL subscription. How convenient for Fender. And how disappointing for users. My existing annual subscription is valid until August according to my Apple subscription & purchase list. That’s four months from now. Other, responsibly designed apps put “Restore Purchase” front and center during initial set up.

Nicely paced instruction but okay app. Fender’s instructional pace is nice and they really get down to the nuts and bolts of how to play music but the app is lacking. Most egregious of all is the streak counter. Most times, it fails to update itself or have the correct date or number of practice sessions. I’ve found that if I kill the app entirely and then practice, it is usually right but weeks have passed where I didn’t get credit for practicing. This is fine but kind of weird that a function that they push with marketing campaigns and push notifications doesn’t work. Other than that, I think allowing the video to be put into the corner so that I can focus on the sheet music would be helpful. I use my iPad while practicing and more than half the screen is obfuscated by the video and I can’t see ahead to the next set of chords are unless I take my hands off the guitar to scroll. The app is a nice cross platform app, though. It rarely crashes and the design is really nice. Of course I wish it hooked into my guitar interface and listened to see if I was hitting notes correctly but I know that’s a heavy ask for a cross platform app.

Can be tedious, but worth it.. I've been playing the piano for forty+ years and the guitar for twenty five, so the lessons counting and music theory are not that helpful. Eventually, they quit going over the chord shapesbat the beginning of each lesson, which helps too. But I never took lessons, and I have a lot to learn about strumming and alternative chord shapes and the like, and this program is a big help. The incentive system to keep me practicing is also a big help, and since I can skip the lessons on stuff I already know, the repetition is no big deal.

A must for new guitarist. If you are new to the guitar do not hesitate and get Fender Play. If you are early intermediate do get it. Playing a new instrument does not happen overnight. There are truly no shortcuts and an effort on your part will be required along with lots of patience. At first results are slow, so buckle up. Fender Play will help you get the ball rolling. It will start your journey with basics and offer you material to get satisfaction. To its credit, fender play has many instructors to teach you fundamental techniques and the moment you begin to progress you will lots of songs to play. But, if you are a newbie, remember it all starts with small bites and patience and perseverance. Stick with Fender Play and without doubt you will succeed.

I wish I subscribed to Yousician before this...!!!. I thought this was going to be cool. It wasn’t..! The problem is the fact that it doesn’t tell you when you make mistakes. If that wasn’t bad enough, I was constantly getting emails about Fender products. Why should I buy a guitar new when I can simply get it on Craigslist. The fact is 90% of people that start the guitar quit during the first year. So there’s plenty of brand new guitars on Craigslist for cheap. But if you like buying brand new, this app does give you 10% off fender products. I was really disappointed till my friends told me to get Yousician.I'm so much happier now. I now practice the guitar for 2-3 lessons a night with Yousician. I’m totally hooked on playing the guitar. I always collected guitars and rare guitar amps, but I’m finally learning to play and Yousician is so much fun.

Where Did Fender Songs Go?. I love my Fender stuff. Got a 68 custom deluxe, my baby is an 05 American Deluxe V Neck Strat, got a highway one strat, a dingy little squire strat that surprised the crap out of me, and a lot of merch including bar stools. I’m giving this 2 stars, because where did Fender Songs go? I’m using the app occasionally to make song and lyric learning much faster, but it’s disappeared from the App Store. I cant put it on my iPhone, even though i paid for a year of it. What’s going on? i even downloaded this app thinking it must have been integrated but upon attempting to restore purchases, it acts like i have not purchased any plans. Why am i being punished for buying into another Fender produc?. I’m lucky i didn’t delete the app from the iPad or I wouldn’t even be able to get my money’s worth out! Please advise!

Thank you! Fender play.. From the onset let me extend my apologies for any grammatical errors that make the reading of his review 😁 The fender play app has allowed me to pursue a life’s ambition of learning to play the guitar by permitting in-home training at a pace and schedule that fits into the craziness that is home life. One of the greatest benefits of the training stems from the requirement to take a few moments out of each crazy day of thing called life and focus on myself ( not something I am good at ). The lessons are not only helping me learn to play also develop a greater level of “Mindfulness” and innermost peace, if put for the briefest moment 🤦‍♂️ Thank you Fender

Pretty good, has flaws.. First of all, it wouldn’t even let me sign up! Next it won’t let me use it if I don’t pay, are you really that eager for money? If you are looking at downloading this software don’t even waste the time to. It’s a BUST, so go over to guitar tuna and they have a tuner, games and lessons and even free songs to play. This is garbage. This is two days later and all my friends that told me this app was good all deleted it within a day of having it. I have a Fender guitar and even Fender picks. This was not impressive. Maybe next time spend more time on an app that could have made you millions but only made you 6 pennies and lost most of your savings ing your piggy bank. A 5 year old could have made a more successful app in two days that you made in 3 months, that you call an investment. BUMMER, you had so much potential!!!

Good but dry. I’m a light intermediate bassist after 6 months but want to get better. I started with this app to see about picking up things I may have missed and work on improvement. I am *very* glad that I did not start my bass learning with this app. While technically ok, it doesn’t really pull you into the feel of the music and the fun of playing. It also breezes over a lot of things that actually take some work to learn, while spending too much time in other areas. And at times it really feels like it’s a long Fender advertisement (which is ok, but there’s more out there!) Overall, this app is just not nearly as enjoyable and motivating as it could be to get you hooked playing a new instrument. The app is heavy on technique - which is good, but at least early on is very light on theory or assumes vocabulary and scale knowledge that you may or may not have. I also find their reliance on just tabulature notation alone to be disconcerting. Tab has lots of good things about it but really misses a lot, especially when trying to teach rhythm. Luckily, there are lots of places out there to learn more. I started learning with Josh Fossgreen’s BassBuzz - and am very happy that I started there. There are also other good folks out there for beginning lessons. After you have some comfort, come back and pick up things that maybe you missed before, and use this app to get better.

Fender - you can so much better than this. Maybe i didnt spend enough time with it, or not patient enough to follow their structure, but i am not impressed. I am still somewhat of a beginner guitar player, so what would have been nice is to yes learn chords and the appropriate songs with those chords so i immediately feel i have progression. Example i chose different songs and each one in the video shows me the chord fingering, if i already learnt C,G, A, Em....i dont need a video on that, yes i can fast forward but it tediuos. What would be nice is to see the guitar tab/ chords and play along, however at best i might get 8bars if i goto full screen you cannot play the video, or rather i just want to play along with the track but you can’t do that. Would be nice if you could filter songs based on Chords and the tutorial goes through the progression or strummimg pattern. Some of the structure of the app is about a few riffs which is ok - but not that usefull. Sorry but not worth the subscription - i was hoping the fender app would complement my JustinGuitar not the case. I am not bashing Fender, i have a Strat and a Mustang Amp and their Tone app which is great- hope this feeback is useful

Good but..... I have two small issues. 1. When I finish a lesson and click next to go to the exercise it simply repeats the lesson video. I have to back out to the lesson list to select the exercise. 2. When I go to an exercise to practice a song riff I just learned in a lesson, there is no backing track. It would be great if I could practice along to the song I am supposed to be learning instead of just a metronome. The video quality is great and the instructors are clear and easy to understand. I just wish I had music to play along with.

What’s Not To Love?. You get to learn guitar in the comfort of your own home and at your own pace? This is an amazing program! The lessons are in bite sized pieces making it easy to squeeze lessons in whenever you’re able. I love that the lessons work on various parts of guitar playing. My steel strings were tough to get used to, but I finally have healthy callouses and am forging ahead. I’m so happy I discovered Fender lessons via their three month free program offered during shelter in place orders. Nice to create a silver lining during a worldwide pandemic. I especially love the fender community and the note sharing on Facebook!

Way too basic and miserably boring!!!. Typically I don’t review apps but this one....this one I felt the needed to. It’s under 100 bucks a year which is totally reasonable and I don’t have an issue with that. My issue is with the content. Video is easy to follow and well put together but the instructors are like drones. I mean painfully boring. How can you relate to someone that sounds like a disinterested politician? Now onto the content. If you are a complete noob or just want a refresher to get back into playing you would think “Fender” would be a good resource. NOPE!!! This is so basic you can rip through the entire program in like 5 days and find yourself asking, “Now what?” Personally I think Fender makes great guitars but their instructional content is garbage. Look around and you will find better online lessons.

Learning made easy-er. What’s to like so far (a few weeks in), for guitar only? Instructors speak clearly and visuals that accompany them are usually really good. As an example, seeing front and top views of the fretboard while they play really helps one see where the fingers go when. Also great is the review function, I don’t love turning my phone’s mic on for apps, but this is great that it listens and grades you, so use it. Use of tablature is welcome as well as the scrolling chords by name. Strum along in time. Some things that seem off? Settings for “counting in” happen with some types of exercises but not others, regardless of the settings I change. Also, the measures themselves in certain exercises aren’t physically/visually the same width so the time keeping aspect “speeds up” and “slows down” in an odd way. I know even sheet music sometimes doesn’t stay consistent- but for learning purposes it does make it harder to keep a consistent pace. I understand price and value are highly variable-this is the most expensive app I have purchased on my phone. Also, I did try to use the Fender purchasing discount at a dealer and they had never heard of it-so maybe spreading that good word would be a good thing to save us some money supporting Fender. Over all a great app that I hope keeps me growing my skills for a long time to come.

Okay, But Some Problems. You learn a lot, which is good. I don’t like that the acoustic and electric rock courses are identical. What I mostly don’t like is feedback mode. On an iPad there is a serious latency issue, especially with playing chords as opposed to single notes. I knew I was nailing the tempo on an exercise but when I played it back it showed I was a quarter beat slow. So to test it I hit the first beat where the exercise indicated the fourth note should be played. Sure enough I scored perfectly on tempo. Not good, not reliable. Fender should catch up with Yousician and have this work on a desktop with MIDI connections. Anyway, when it comes to tempo, you just have to trust your own ears.

Excellent app, so far so good. I am brand new to guitar. So far I like this app. It is what I needed — lesson plans that start from zero and progress rapidly. How I use it is on my Apple TV using the airplay option. That, however, doesn’t work for the audio only practices. So I need to disable airplay in order to get the audio out on my phone. Given these lessons are also available on the Fender website, I can imagine making an Apple TV app for very minimal effort (if you need help, reach out to me :-). I know market analysis will tell you only a small fraction of users do it this way but those of us on Apple TV would be forever grateful and I promise it can be done in one day (including App Store submission).

Do the right thing!. I wanted to give an update that I was contacted by a Fender and they did do the right thing and I got my membership back +6 months so thank you Fender! I purchased an annual membership back in October. I’ve used it since then and then all of a sudden they lost my account my email no longer shows up in their System so halfway through my subscription I no longer have access. I emailed them the receipt and proof I have a subscription but they’re like oh we can’t find your email so you’re out of luck. When I ask for to cancel there’s still gonna keep my money for a subscription I can’t use! This is so disappointing because I was really enjoying it😟 They need to do the right thing and create an account for at least six months so I can get my moneys worth. Again this is very disappointing I was really enjoying the app and I was learning how to play the guitar but this kind of service they just don’t even seem to care.

Bought a subscription but stuck in select a plan screen - edit. I recently purchased the annual subscription for Fender Play. However, whenever I go back to the app, it tells me to choose a subscription and won’t let me go further. After clicking, again, the annual subscription a message pops up saying: “You are currently subscribed to this”. Edit: took time to get the subscription but eventually it worked. App works great, and as a beginner, it is quite helpful. Will update when I am further into the program.

From drums to bass in a few easy (and informative) lessons 👍. Fist and fore most, I’m a drummer, but after missing out on a few paying gigs because I couldn’t play any other instruments... I picked up the the bass. I figure I would stay with the rhythm section, plus for ever 10 guitar players there’s maybe 1-2 bassist. But I digress ...this fender online class is really informative with easy to follow instructions and instructors that seem to really enjoy the instrument. So for anyone how’s looking for an online instruction class for the beginner or even those who’ve needed to add a little something to their playing, check out this class.

I Don’t Think They Care About Southpaws. I signed up for Fender Play so excited to get started. I had played guitar a decade ago but stopped due to life. The pandemic has forced me to appreciate everything. I love the FB community so much! The biggest gripe I have is that they don’t offer a left-handed option. I play left and am just asking for a simple toggle in the settings that allows you to pick the orientation. The videos don’t even need to change just update the chord charts, etc. I don’t think that would be difficult. I’ve put in several feature requests but Fender acts like “whatever.” I’m starting on Yousician that does allow lefties! Fender stop the discrimination!! Also following the practice lessons can be difficult if you don’t use the metronome as you have to keep scrolling to see the page. A zoom out feature may be a good option to have or even a reading option for songs so everything is on the same page.

Great app, great learning materials. I don’t write reviews often but this app made me want to do it. As a software engineer by day, I have to say that this app is well made and it’s so rare to see a non-tech companies having really good and easy to use mobile apps. Bravo, Fender Play team! As a beginner guitar player, I love lessons the app provides, they give you structured knowledge that you can transform into skills with great practice modes following the lessons. The process of learning guitar is so enjoyable with Fender Play. Additionally to that I really love their live streams which help you to immerse yourself into the world of guitar playing.

Horrible Customer Service. I paid for a 1 year subscription and kept getting the “upgrade now” pop ups after the fact. I reached out to customer support, sent screenshots that I did indeed pay for the app, and the rep I worked with it wouldn’t do a THING to help get it fixed. Literally said it’s apples problem and rudely pushed me off to them. After speaking with Apple they verified I had paid for the app, and confirmed that the email address associated was the one that I had logged into Fender with. I of course went back to the Fender “support” representative and he basically gave me a “tough luck,” and once again did nothing to help. I absolutely NEVER leave bad reviews but the representative David from Scottsdale was not only completely unhelpful, he was insanely rude.

Great all the way around. After trying many online programs and not being impressed I was a little skeptical. I thought for the price, it would be low risk to try. I have to say I’m impressed. I have been playing for years off and on but have not played in a few years. I started at the beginning which is geared for absolute beginners. Everything is explained and visual examples in the video on how to play in each lesson. The warm up exercises are are great also. There are a few things I learned that I did not get in earlier lessons. It’s definitely worth checking out.

Best place to start. Glad I went with Fender Play. I tried a couple other online tutorials and while some are good many of the videos are long even for a basic skill. I like that Fender plays instruction explains what you are doing but also keeps you playing and learning new skills every video. The learning progression is very well thought out, you learn skills that progress to learning a song. You gather the fundamentals then put it all together. It’s great if you wanna do a quick session or have a few hours to learn new techniques.

Great place to start!. I am completely new to learning an instrument other than the 2 weeks in Jr. high on a sax., so when I was given a Epiphone SG and an amp because I have always been curious to play I was like now what? I started browsing and searching the net and found descent reviews of Fender play and I was familiar with their name of guitars so I tried the trial and after it was over signed up and have been moseying along ever since. I can go at whatever pace I need for the week the hard part is trusting in the method but if you let go and just do the modules it will start to come together. I also got a basic theory book on rock and blues helps set up a practice regiment with Fender play.

Value. Good value for the price . So much entertainment you can get for a good price I didn’t give it 5 as quite new and haven’t used all services . Still learning. I like how you get a free trial without card details. Wasn’t sure at first but in the end like to proceed . This will do for now. Of course you can get free courses but need to spend to get a premium service. Soon I can jam properly.

Love this app. I love this app! The tutorials are step by step and demonstrate the strumming of each song which makes it so much easier to learn!! Just wish there were some newer songs on this app as a lot of the songs on the app, I’ve never heard of.

L plate. If you’re a complete beginner I totally recommend this

Really helpful!!. I am a beginner, playing the acoustic guitar and I found that “Fender Play” really helped me learn and gather knowledge that would be forgotten if I wasn’t taught slowly and consistently. Fender play is suitable for all abilities and has really helped me!

Have to sign up to a plan immediately. Why is this app apparently free but you can't use it without signing in and subscribing to an expensive paid plan - albeit with a trial period. Would prefer to have some free features.

Thanks. Fender play has helped me and my dad to learn guitar

Awesome app!. First time I’ve ever been consistent with my guitar playing. Love the instructors. They make the training enjoyable and it feels very personal

Loving it.. It is such a great way to learn to play guitar. I am 70 years old, and it’s always been on my bucket list, to be able to play guitar. I know I’ll never be able to be a really good player, but will be happy if I can learn to strum. I am a widow, and I think it the guitar will be a great companion for me. Thanks Fender and all its tutors. 😻

A complete guitar system. What a fantastic addition for ANY guitarist at ANY level, Fender Play has YOU covered.

Far too expensive. Way too expensive. The lessons are in no beneficial or logical order, the teachers (who aren’t a joy to watch) are rushing through the little they offer in lessons. Not good for beginners.

Excellent. The app is great and easy to navigate.. Easy to stay motivated and feel like I am making progress because of the variety of lessons, instructors, riffs and songs. Excellent and easy to navigate through and professionally presented.

The BEST guitar teaching app!. This is one of the best teaching app for guitar hands down! It also teaches Bass and ukulele so if you feel like learning two stringed instruments this is the only app that does both well from what I’ve looked at.

Yes. I have only had fender and my bass for 3 hours yet this app is amazing. I’ve learnt more then I have in school in music. It provides you with lessons and practices/exercise. But like all apps it has its downs. Really the only problem is the fact that some parts the language gets a bit to tricky and they don’t exactly tell you what it’s for. Other then that this app has been a huge help. I’ll be writing a review in about a year from now saying how the journey has gone from now

Well thought out. Really loving coming back to the guitar and actually learning fundamentals in a fun easy to follow format

An amazing app that helps you master the guitar. Fender Play is a very helpful app and it helped me learn how to do everything from tuning and starting to learn more about my guitar to being able to play chords and riffs. I still have a long way to go to try and master the guitar but I feel like I can accomplish it with the Fender Play app. The only thing I would change is adding a lot more songs, because some of the songs from bands I like aren’t on the app and I would like them to be songs to learn, but other from that it is a great app and I completely recommend it to people who want to start learning guitar, bass, or ukulele.

Fender play. Having a great time enjoying learning with fender play - I might not be good but I love it 😃

Love it!!. Teaching in a style that gives you the feeling of achievement while keeping you interested. Loving the riffs.. Love your work fender and thank you 🤘

Easy to follow!. I love this app. Professionally done and easy to follow. I’ve had lessons before but I’m enjoying staring from the beginning again and getting rid of some bad habits. :)

Great app for total beginner. I’m a complete beginner, I’ve tried a few app’s, and this is the best of them all!

Fender Play Rocks!. Such a cool way to learn guitar. Great instructors, tab, concept. Play along & Feedback mode also excellent. Just wish it would airplay better, Or if there was an app for Apple TV. When you’re watching the instructor video, it doesn’t scroll along with the tab and if your airplay you only see the video not the tab, whereas if you screen mirror you see both but in portrait and with an annoying watermark - playing on your apply TV, and you have to keep stopping to scroll the tab. Otherwise the app is up there with the best for its first iteration. I sure wish I had Fender Play when I started learning. I would highly recommend this experience.

WOW. I’ve been using this app for about 30 days. It is amazing, I’ve learnt so much! I’m also really enjoying it Thank you so much for putting this together it’s like food for my brain every time I open the app and start learning 🌻🥦🥕🎼🎸

What's with the Audio. The audio often doesn't play through the phone so I have to shut the app down & restart it Also it suggests using headphones but then you can't hear the guitar Clunky app

Absolutely brilliant. I don’t ever leave reviews but I’ll leave a review for this app. I’m a first timer at 43 years old with little music experience. Your app makes it easy, enjoyable and challenging to learn. I’ve found myself in just two weeks meeting expectations I had for months down the track and I’m absolutely loving the process and my new found abilities. Thank you so much for putting this together. PS - my fingers hurt. And it’s worth it.

Content size. Loving the short videos, there are straight to the point, makes it easy to learn and practice one thing really well.

Highly recommend. Great step by step easy to underst

Great app. Easy to use, well organised, and keeps me learning & practicing

Lovin’ Fender Play. G’day, I am 50+, found guitar late in life. Fender Play makes learning so easy and convenient. When you don’t feel like a lesson, just grab a song and play while the family sleeps. Something special about playing the guitar when you get a song down pat the first time. You know it would be great if you could buy the sheet music of the song chord charts, because I don’t have a tablet or IPad. Trying to play and scroll is a bits hard. Oh yeh, your teachers have good interaction with the camera. As you can see, I am a fan. I would recommend and have more than once. Throw in a couple Waylon Jennings songs Cheers, Seano Australia

Scam be warned. I bought this app but you cannot access it without setting up an account giving your private details then demands over $150 to access

Patience My Friend. This app is better than you think it could be. Depth and range of app design is so simple, yet enables you to build skill on top of knowledge. Flexible, interrelated lessons which you can repeat and revisit anytime. Go for it.

Metallica. Any possibility we can get some metallica within the next few months please??

Apps great but its logged me out. I have been logged out , says in the app store that i have a subscription but its logged me out and then won’t recognize my apple id or email address . Just dumb

Fantastic. Had lost touch with guitar for over a decade and now, thanks to the Fender Play app, I’m back playing again. I’m finding the variety of lessons and tunes, tips and tricks just brilliant to refresh or learn something new. Easy to use and great for a busy lifestyle. Very reasonably priced too. Thanks so much Fender and Apple for such a quality experience.

Good app but could do with a few tweaks. I love this app. The lessons are well explained. I love reading along with the music or tablature it I would love it if you could add the feature to shrink the video so you can see more of the written music so you don’t have to quickly scroll down while playing. Or even better than this make the music scroll by its self as we play along. Another nice add on would be to make the music change colour as you play it so beginners don’t get lost on where they are up to.

Bite-size lessons. It's easy to follow, with clear video instructions & tabs. Amazing practice video with background rythm to play along. Would recommend Fender Play.

Telecaster new found love. Really enjoying learning new songs from fender play after my purchase of a fender telecaster guitar, love it, all the best Chris Darby

A W E S O M E!!. Top app! Very user friendly! Love it, love it! Thank team Fender! Matt Lake and the crew thanks for being great teachers!!

No good. Got the app knowing their would be in app purchases. Singed up and then takes me to a subscription page of 100 something I thought that was ridiculous so I deleted it straight away.

Fantastic!. After jacking around on a guitar for many years, it’s been great to learn some theory and improve my existing skills. 👍

Great for re-learning. It would be better if you could see the written music as well as listening and seeing. It would make it easier to practice and learn the chord sequence.

So good until the recent update. I have been using the Fender app for around 8 months to learn both the guitar and ukulele. It has been amazingly helpful and well structured with a great mix of chords, exercises, riff’s and tunes across different instruments and genres. However, the recent update has, in my opinion, made it a much less enjoyable and intuitive app. In the previous version (pre mid November 2023) practice tunes had both the tab’s and chord names which made finding the right fingering much easier as I learned. The update has taken these tab’s from the main view and replaced them with tiny and hard to read letters for each chord, making it both harder for slow learners like me to position my fingers right as I need to remember the finger placement for the chord much earlier in the learning process. The tiny and hard to read letters for the chords are also really hard to read even with my glasses. So, please can we have the old format back, or maybe an option to switch between the old and new formats?

No advanced bass :(. As a bass player of a couple of years I looked into this looking for some more intermediate and advanced stuff but I was unfortunately disappointed with how basic even the high levels of the bass section were. I’m sure fender have put in more effort into the guitar section as that is the bigger market so I can’t say much for that however if you are coming into this as a bass player who has even a decent idea of what you’re doing I can’t say you’ll get much out of this unless it receives some higher levels.

Good for beginners. Great for beginners for a few months or so. Intermediate and advanced players should seek out courses that focus more on music theory and technique.

Best instructional app. Fender play is incredible. I am a new guitar playing and I am finding this app so easy to use and the explanations are clear and precise. I highly recommend this app to any new guitar player. Well worth the money

Amazing teachers. Helped me come a long way

Practice and feedback modes don’t always work. Good lessons and like the feedback and practice modes, but if you try to go between levels/lessons the sound doesn’t work so you have to keep restarting the app.

Brilliant app. I don’t often write reviews but I just had to for this app. I have struggled through lessons, used books and tried other apps but Fender is the first where I have made some real progress in my skills and ability to play guitar. Fender obviously have put a lot of thought and effort into delivering a very good mix of building knowledge, skills and keeping you interested to stick with their course to allow you to achieve the level of playing guitar that you want to achieve, at your own pace. Lesson length is great, so you can sneak in some practice throughout the day even when busy. App layout is,good, easy to use, simple to navigate. Scaffolding knowledge for easier retention. Highly recommended for beginners and more proficient players.

Great starter app.. You can’t go wrong subscribing to Fender play. It’s a good app to start and learn the good habits. Once you get the basics you can move on to bigger things... It would be nice to be offered (and possibly a sales insensitive) 12 months for free after spending big bucks on a new Strat!...

Only just started. Been a day and I’m getting a lot better wen I started I didn’t even know how to play the guitar

Amazing!. Now I’m a just some 10 year old but it is awesome! Now I’ll say this it could have live calls with teachers but other than that it’s good so yeah

Amazing. 3rd time I’ve tried to learn and this app has got it nailed. Onward.

So far so good. I am not musically inclined, but I always gravitate to the bass line in a song and decided I wanted to give it a go. I bought a cheap and used Ibanez off the internet and tried to teach myself using a scattered approach of watching YouTube videos. 2 years of this approach got me frustrated and nowhere. I came across this Fender app and started from scratch. (Learning the names of the bass parts, components and strings, etc). I’m only 3 weeks in of practicing every other day and I already feel further ahead than 2 years worth of random YouTube videos. The pros who teach the lesson are very good at teaching. It’s very encouraging. Thanks Fender.

Worst experience. Bought this app for a year. Then couldn’t login it said I needed to buy it again. It says I’m subscribed. Fender tells me just to call Apple. Apple has absolutely terrible customer service and says they can’t see an issue. Two hundred dollars for an app I’ve never used. This could not be a bigger disappointment

Thanks Fender!. Ive had this app about 2 weeks and thoroughly enjoy it. They break everything down for the noob in all of us. I’ve been playing everyday and it keeps me coming back to learn more. Solid app. For me.. it’s worth every penny!

Expensive and limited. So far I'm far from impressed. $25/month, limited songs, and it doesn't even show you songs from the genre you select when you set it up. Most of my favourite musicians are not on it although they are very popular.

Barre chords. Great tutor

COVID Fun. This is so easy and fun to learn the guitar with this App. Great way to pass COVID.

Scam! Dont download. Don’t download this app it will scam you and they will not give you a refund. It will automatically charge your credit card after the free trial without even asking for any permission! Beware! Its highway robbery!

It’s okay ig. I initially use this for a bass guitar which went great and then eventually decided to start learning the guitar but in the acoustic guitar lessons the instructors are playing electric. which really messed me up because it sounds different.

Just installed and uninstalling. Just installed with excitement that it is Free as it was i found in google search as a free guitar app to learn as a beginner but very very disappointed when I signed up and it revealed that it is not free only a trial is free So uninstalling it

Great experience. I really enjoy learning to play with the Fender Play app. The lessons are very helpful and the pace is perfect for learning a new instrument.

Great app so far.. The app is very nice to use. It’s nice that I can cast videos to my tv when practicing. Could use some organization in the skills tab (exercises, techniques, etc). Everything’s just kinda thrown in there.

requires credit card for trial. when it says it’s not required in the description. entirely misleading

Instructors. Great, calming, patient instructors. They make it feel like it isn’t video learning.

Great experience, Thanks Fender. I took advantage of the free download opportunity during the pandemic, being confined to home, and an attempt to keep my sanity. The course was awesome, going at my own pace, with access to instructors and simple straight forward modules. Ive attempted many times over the years to learn a musical instrument, finally settling on a Ukulele. While struggling, with finger dexterity issues, I’ve found the fender play app has improved both my arthritis and memory. Thank you! Now, the monthly cost of 10.00 -12.00 dollars is really a bit steep.

Great step by step learning. Great and interactive learning that keeps you interested and looking forward to the next step. Easy to follow. And the instructors come across very likeable.

I love Fender. WoW

Wrong aspect ratio for iPad mini 6th gen. It’s a good app but has the wrong aspect ratio for the 6th Gen iPad mini, it doesn't take up all the available space on the screen and The music sheets are also very small since they designed for screens around 11 inches not 7

Love it!. It starts very basic and I need that. If you’ve never held or even tuned an instrument, try this! It’s been an incredible tool.

Looking at changing to Gibson. I like the lessons and selection of songs. Their app is easier to use.

Fantastic App. I have attempted to play guitar numerous time over the last 25 years or so and have made more progress in a week than I have in all other previous attempts. Well worth the subscription cost.

Semi-scam. Just a fair warning to any potential new customers like myself, the FREE trial is $189.00! If you have to pay for the year to try it…….IT’S NOT FREE!!!!

Learning ukulele at 23 :). This app honestly is making the process so nice and fun

Learning guitar. Very good training for me…older person with lots to be learned!!

Really Enjoying!!!. I’m REALLY enjoying Fender Play so far!

Not really free.. I have to say, it’s not only Fender’s fault, but Apple’s too. That kind of app should never appear as “Free” in the App Store, because it requires a subscription even if you only want to try it. Apple should present this app as a “Subscription Required” instead (hi Apple, this new category would be very welcome). I couldn’t properly analyze the app, because I’m a musician, but I’m not crazy. I’d never put my hardly-earned money into a black hole like that, having to make a commitment in advance, and rush through a 14-day period to check all the app’s features, to then make a conclusion if it’s worth the money paid. If not, as we can read in numerous 1-star reviews, it could turn into a real pain to cancel the subscription. Moreover, according to many of the reviews, the app seems to be directed to absolute beginners, which is not my case. Interestingly, I had a number of Fender equipments before, some low end, some high end. My latest purchase was a mint condition Fender acoustic guitar, which I paid CAD 138 at Tom Lee. It’s an excellent instrument, just like all other Fender I had in the past. Suddenly , that made me think: should someone invest almost the same in a paid app, or trying one of the numerous YouTube free lessons instead and save money for a good instrument would perhaps be a better idea?

No Allman Brothers. This is a good app to teach you guitar, bass, ukulele. But I would like allman brothers on here and add a little more chuck Berry songs like School days

Not free. $15 a month in Canada. That’s close to $200 a year. It advertises as ‘free’ but clearly it isn’t. So... trust broken. Why trust anything else about it. This from a company that sells guitars. You would think they would be happy to let you know how to use what they sell - for free. Flawed business approach imo. Make it free Fender and more people will buy guitars. Duh.

Subscription Renewal. Hello, I recently renewed my yearly subscription but it won’t let me use the app. Also it won’t let me restore purchases. Please fix this. Thank you, Adam

no. not free!so expensive and i cant find the free version even with that silly website. dont bother to respond i dont want to pay§§

4 stars. Great app but I don’t like the fact that I have to pay for it and it needs more songs

Left handed play. Will this app be able to teach me to play left handed guitar?

Issues. 1. Intonation. 2. Fidelity to path. 3. Fidelity to instrument 1. Intonation: Before starting a lesson, I tune my guitar using the Fender Tune app. After starting my lesson I find that my guitar is not in tune with the instructor’s guitar, so I re-tune. Then, during a subsequent lesson with a different instructor, I have to re-tune again to be in tune with *this* instructor’s guitar. In a manufacturing plant, an issue like this would come under the heading of quality control. 2. Fidelity to path: Of the 5 paths available for guitar, I signed up for Folk Music. Although I appreciate the idea of sending extra lessons to promote increasing the student’s repertoire, I wish that Fender would either send only material that is consistent with my chosen path, or at least give the student the option of choosing additional material from whichever other path(s) the student might prefer. Quality control. I definitely don’t want rock music. I actually find this ‘pushy’ and discouraging. 3. Fidelity to instrument: I signed up for acoustic guitar lessons. The instruments used by the instructors on my path (not to mention the extra materials) are sometimes acoustic, sometimes electric (strat, tele, etc.). Again, for the sake of the sound I want to hear and get good at, could I have acoustic guitar lessons wherein the instructor is playing an acoustic guitar? Quality control.

What Notes Am I Playing?. I’d love to see the option to switch between notes on the strings to TAB, but it appears Fender forces TAB only. How can I become a musician if I don’t know what notes I’m playing (rhetorical question)

Not worth the time. Starts off simple then the instructors become difficult to listen to (either because you're falling asleep, or they're not clear on the instruction). You're better off looking on YouTube then spending time or money on this.

Don’t download.Scam!!!. You need to pay a lot for a year like $1989 like no it’s a scam

Amazing to build confidence. Just got my first guitar for Christmas, I have never played before. This app has been a huge help. I was a bit sceptical to pay the money, but it was very much well with the price. The app feels like it starts slow (even for a beginner) but it builds your skills slowly, but your confidence quickly to stick with it and not get discouraged. No searching through you tube, this app has a great flow to put you gradually through all the right steps. The only thing that’s disappointing is I’m in Canada and do not get the 10% off Fender products. The extra 10% would lead me to buying a Fender for my next guitar would be great to see it opened to Canada too!

Great App. I find this app a great way to learn how to play a guitar in a practical sense. It allows the user to both learn in a well structured lesson and explore individual lessons.

Simply: Amazing. Bravo to the team at Fender for an amazing app. The app is an 11/10. Not only are the lessons small and easily digestible, the instructors provide clear instructions. After only a month of about an hour a day, I am beyond pleased with the gains I’ve made. Hey, my goal is to one day play Rush and do justice to Alex Lifeson’s catalogue... As much as I love the app, there is one thing missing - and it isn’t with the app itself. All that’s missing is an AppleTV version.

Helpful. I have learned some good things

Great App - Excellent support. I’m just learning - never played guitar before - and this app has given me a very good start. The video lessons are clear and easy to follow , but it does help if you can capture the streams (use a video stream capture app on your laptop) so you can isolate segments of the videos and replay and study more closely on QuickTime . I first gave it a four star rating because I had trouble getting in touch with support (I may have made a mistake entering my email address in the web form) but I’m upgrading my four star rating to FIVE big stars - because the support team is excellent .

Orange. My name Jeff

Needs an Apple TV app. We would love it if you could develop and release an Apple TV app! The lessons and layout are straight-forward and the subscription delivers everything that it promises to however whenever attempting to AirPlay to Apple TV, the progress bar, play/pause, 30 sec scroll and other on-screen controls are displayed on the TV as well as on the iPhone. When AirPlay gets cancelled reverting back to the iPhone, the on-screen controls disappear with no issue and there is no more visual distraction. By forcing the unnecessary on-screen controls, it obscures the lessons and makes for a discouraging experience for those with visual impairments. We were excited to subscribe and get to learning something new as a family event however crowding around an iPhone display isn’t the greatest experience and makes it more isolating for members of the household due to visual impairment or not being able to have more than one person in on a lesson. Fix this and five stars would be well-earned.

annoying. it looks like a very good course but very annoying messages all the time. i gave up with it. the tuner has even more annoying messages

Free trial is false. The free trial requires that you purchase a subscription before you can use the “free” trial. The is really a “first month free” with NO trial or evaluation period at all. I don’t buy apps sight unseen!

Incredible for Beginners. Just started learning guitar for the first time and this app gives it us a clear and easy to follow structure. All you have to do is go through the lessons and practice sessions and you’ll see improvements within days. I started a week ago and can already play a couple small riffs and songs. Really love it and will continue paying for the membership. Thanks Fender!!

Buggy. The sub is okay, the 7 stage lesson plan could be completed in the two week trial with daily practice. Many of the songs offered are not really the full version or are adopted for beginners, which is good and bad. Would rather see what Garageband did with simplified and advanced versions. Worse is that the app is very buggy and will crash when you open the Feedback mode (unless it is the first activity you go to after launch). Sometimes the tabs also glitch and sections will appear blank (likely related to moving through the video if you skip forward or back to replay a section).

ok. it’s good but i don’t use it anymore and for the past 2 years i’ve been trying to cancel my subscription and i don’t find anything. i’ve tried to follow all the steps for how to cancel on each device and there’s nothing. i’m very fed up. it’s so complicated why not put a that allows you to cancel instead of having to do 100 different steps.

It is the worst app ever. It sucks so much because it forced me to give it 5 star

Loving it!. Decided to buy a guitar and learn how to play and am glad I did. The Fender app teaches the basics but doesnt drag on with boring beginner lessons as they mix in teaching you some fun riffs to get you excited to play. I also love the birds eye-view camera angle over the teacher so you can see how they place theyre fingers on the frets to form a chord. Recommend this app!

Loving fender play. I am loving the simplicity and ease of the fender play lessons. I have started learning to play guitar several times in my life and never really stuck with it and this time around I am showing up every single day and fender play is a key component in this. I am practicing and loving the lessons. They are short and sweet, but already I can feel a big difference in my reach and finger stretching. This is a great app for a beginner like me. I definitely recommend it!

Amazing. I’ve had a private instructor before but it never really found a groove with my progression. This program lets me learn at my own pace and the instructors and lessons go over every detail. You can switch back and forth between moving forward or staying in one spot to practice before moving on. I went from never having touched a guitar to now being able to play songs that involve multiple chords. I have a lot more to learn, but I’m excited and ready to go through the lessons every time.

Scam. Not a try and buy, more like.... So, after you download the app it asks you for your immediate approval to purchase the app after the trial period. There’s no monthly charge, it’s annual, and there are no refunds. During the trial the app is very benign, inconspicuously in the background, doing nothing, no notifications, etc., but after they get you for the annual fee, the app then starts notifying you of other Fender apps. It’s like Fender wanted to do something for their customers, new and existing, then they went and hired some app developers who are in it to monetize their customers. I deleted the app. I’ll learn elsewhere. Avoid this junk. Great example of apps gone wrong.

Hi! Just wondering??. (Btw five stars is for this to get read) hello developers and others people , I’m interested in this app I’m in love with my guitar like I can’t sit down and not look at it. Here’s the thing I’m a little young and it says on the cover screen “start free “and blah blah blah but that’s what concerns me . I don’t want tos ign up and be paying with out know so if you could explain what happens after I log in with Apple ,google or whatever if I automatically start paying??

Quick jump starter for this old player. I’ve been toying around with guitars nearly 40 years. Never had time or patience for formal lessons until I came across Fender Play. The lessons are short and simple to learn and within minutes I’m playing the correct way! I often train online in front of my computer, or take in lessons on my phone or iPad while waiting in the doctors office. You can even go over a particular lesson again until you fully understand. So far, so good!

App Lacking. As a beginner to playing the guitar, unfortunately I didn’t know what would work best while trying to learn. I can say there are positives toFender Play, but my biggest complaint is trying to learn the chord progressions, but the tabs don’t show. Also the songs don’t scroll while trying to play which is extremely confusing and frustrating!! I can’t believe how fast the instructors play and expect you to just follow their verbal cues. I really which I hadn’t signed up for the full year as it’s been 1 month and I’m so frustrated.

Best guitar app. Fender has helped me improve my playing more than any other guitar app out there. I recently tried Yousician and the main difference I noticed between the 2 apps was that Fender lays out their lessons in a much more orderly fashion. With Yousician it was tough to track my progress and how I was doing but with Fender you can clearly tell whether you’re a level 1 or level 5 which has driven me to come back to the app each and every day!

Pay app. Expensive pay app.. Disappointed to find an app then open it to find out its $150 for a year. Or $20 a month which comes out to $240. I’m not against folks making money. However, one should advertise their expensive pricing prior to download. Garbage app. I highly recommend that consumers on the App Store realize that not buying what you want only makes what you want cheaper and more available. As a society this one fact is true. The more folks who restrain themselves from stupid purchases turns said stupid purchases into smart choices. This app does not deserve any stars. As one must spend money to even use this trash.

Thoroughly impressed. Like so many others, I am skeptical of app based learning such as this. But with COVID and the irregularity of life I decided to give guitar, as well as this app, another try. I chose the blues track and having made it about half way through level 2, I can say this app does a great job at teaching a beginner. I’m playing loads of chords, learning techniques and songs all at a very customizable pace. And in two weeks of using this app I feel like my skills have come a long way. Good job Fender

Sign Up Problems. I was shopping around to see which online app to learn guitar was convenient, and ended up going with this one because it gives the option for monthly payments, other competitors like yousician wanted a yearly subscription in advance. Unfortunately, when I went through the sign up process, it said I was subscribed, but could not log in, even though I know i was putting the correct password. I kept getting the error message: Nulls is not an object (evaluating s.status). I wanted to contact customer service but saw that they are only available mon-fri. It forces you to send an email and wait for them to reply back on monday...At that point i just cancelled it...

Amazing!. As a young guitar learner, I am astonished. If you’re reading this around the time it was posted, I got a guitar a couple days ago (December 24, 2022) and I’ve been practicing. This app helped me so much, I’ve already learned a few song. It is a little pricy, but remember, guitarists, your guitar might have been around the same price. I love the fact that some of my favorite country songs are on here, like Eric Church’s “Springsteen” and Lainey Wilson’s “Heart Like a Truck”. Great job Fender!

Good for beginners. If you just got your first guitar and this app subscription came cheap (or free), this could be an excellent place to start your guitar journey. On the other hand, if you’re intermediate or beyond, there’s not much here to challenge you. The songs are highly simplified (often beyond recognition), and the techniques are very basic. Shame…I was hoping for lessons of all levels, not just beginners. I got it on sale, so I wasn’t too disappointed, but as an advanced guitarist, I will not resubscribe.

So helpful!. Years ago I tried learning guitar with an in person teaching and eventually felt defeated and stopped. I decided recently to try again and have been using my fender and it makes me feel accomplished, working towards a goal in getting better/learning guitar and very well spoken from each mentor within the app! I’m excited to learn and overcome challenges !

Quarantine Savior. Signed up for Fender play when quarantine started. Bought a banged up Yamaha for $40 and started from scratch. Never played an instrument in my life. Now? I am able to hold my own around a campfire and have even filled in at my church. I am not SRV by any means but crack open a few beers and hanging out with family and friends and I can keep you entertained. Not to mention this probably kept me from going stir crazy.

Fender Listen. I love the format and the paths. I just want to know if it’s possible to get a tuner that can hear if we are playing these things, if not precisely as that would be very difficult programming, but at least getting close? A G-chord should register close to a G, etc. It can also tell if the chords hit with the metronome. This would go a long way to answer the question that is asked of everyone learning to play, “Are your rhythm, and your ears, and your playing ACTUALLY improving; or are you leaving knowledge and skill on the table in the name of progress?” Please don’t take offense. I love this whole Fender Play idea/product. I simply wish this feature on every online learning tool. Nothing will ever be as effective as the ancient person to person, Sensei to student-like model. Online guitar lessons, though, could be immensely improved by that one feature. Thank you for this.

App problem. Didn’t see a customer support email so decided to try here. I bought a subscription to fender play and having problems. First time I tried it worked as it should. It asked my name, email and such then for payment. But then nothing happened. Tried it again and it keeps starting from step 1. Tried it over 5 times and it keeps asking me to subscribe when I already have subscribed yet it doesn’t send me to the part where it says pick what your playing: either bass, electric, acoustic or the last one I forgot. Please help me!! I’ll change the stars when I get a fix for it.

Still doesn’t have a tuner function. The new update is great, and it’s still my favorite guitar learning app, but I’m baffled that they still make you leave the app to use a separate app for tuning. It’s fine to have a stand alone tuner app, but you should still have a tuner function inside the learning app so you don’t have to leave every time you tune your guitar between lessons.

Excellent, methodical and structured approach. I find Fender Play to be an excellent way to learn to play guitar. It’s a structured and methodical approach and I can practice as much and whenever as I wish and at whatever pace I need. I can replay lessons it’s I want to practice as many time as I wish or to brush up on a particular skill. As I move through the levels at my own pace, to enable me to learn various skills, I change between electric and acoustic, and styles. I know I’m learning skills from world class instructors who simplify and make each lesson understandable. Overall, I can’t say enough good things about Fender Play and find I look forward to practicing daily using Fender Play and the joy of picking up my guitar! I also find the FP Facebook page a great resource of knowledge and inspiration.

Breakthrough Method. Today is my one year anniversary using Fender Play. I had tried, and failed, to learn guitar three other times over my life time. Fender Play finally got me over the hump. You Play simplified versions of real songs that you know and love right from the start. That makes it fun and holds your interest. Then build up to more complicated versions as your skills progress. The lessons are well guided and well taught. You follow a clear path step by step.

Intolerable nagware. I wanted to get through at least most of the 7 day trial to truly experience your product...but it’s day 2 and I can’t handle the constant “upgrade now!” interstitial window that pops up at almost every transition between the very short lessons. Seriously comes up at least every 3-5 minutes at the rate you move through the lessons. Look Fender - if you are going to give us a trial...we KNOW it is a trial, let us experience your product and decide. Don’t try to convert us at every turn when we have just started. You drove me away...if I convert what else will you relentlessly pursue me to buy? No thanks.

Great Instruction Videos. I tried learning guitar when I was 19yrs. My electric guitar got stolen and I never got back into it. I picked up an Acoustic Guitar Jan. 2018....I practiced hard for a year and then bought a fender bullet squier. I saw the app downloaded it and have not looked back! Electric guitar has awesome sound and easier to play on hands. Plus the app lets you see your progression and helps understand music styles! Thanks Fender I am hooked on your guitar/music drug!

It’s been helpful for learning but will need more songs to keep me. I’ve been loving the app for learning guitar. I’ve tried a few times in the past but stalled out after some time. This app has helped keep me engaged and learning. The only thing I’ll need is continued support of the songs list provided to keep me around. I love how they teach the songs but I just find myself wishing for more. If they can continue to update their song list so I find more I personally like I’ll stick around for quite some time I’m sure.

Excellent learning tool. This is an excellent learning tool for anyone new to an instrument or just wanting to brush up on some skills. I hadn’t played bass in 15 years and got back into it. This program took me through 5 levels and was a great refresher. The videos are short and to the point. They offer a nice selection of songs to learn from classics to modern hits. You control the pace. Well put together. I would definitely recommend this to anyone starting out.

Great for keeping sharp and learning new things.... I’ve played classical guitar for 25+ years but always felt that I didn’t have the knack for electric guitar; mostly because I was self-taught for that and picked up bad habits. What I like about this app is that it includes videos of real people with good production quality. It also has the tabs and a beat-track. Now that I’m re-learning guitar and venturing off into the bass guitar and ukulele I find this app edge helpful for building a strong foundation in technique and fundamentals.

Really enjoying Fender Play!. I have been playing for years, but going through your entire course from the beginning to freshen up on some old skills, and learning plenty of new things along the way! Thank you for having this, and really enjoy the way it is broken up into small segments so it can be worked on as I have the time and do not have to worry about finding the time for an hour long session all at once.

My Best Friends Girl. In no part of the video lesson for The Cars - My Best Friends Girl does the instructor ever play the song to hear what it should sound like. I know the song of course and I could obviously play the song on my phone. But in the video they should give an example of what the song sounds like the way the instructor is teaching it. Very frustrating. An example of what I’m talking about is Marty’s Music on iTunes. Everyone of his videos starts with him playing the song through once so you have it in your head, then he begins the lesson. It’s incredibly effective. Please consider. Thanks! Great app otherwise, but to me it’s a deal breaker

Good be good. So to start off, I had played for a long time but. Due to many surgeries and not being able to pick up a guitar for several years I decided to start back with a refresher. I start at the beginning but after level 1 it would not advance. I can see level 2 but no courses show up. So I just go to another area, and get the same thing. This is not very encouraging so far. App is glitchy and some buttons fail to work at times, I have to close and restart sometimes to get things moving again to only stall shortly after. I want to like it but just can’t with all of the bugs. Time to cancel the subscription.

Great for learning but..... As a beginner this is a good start, but the instructors go way too fast and expect you to keep up. The most annoying, however, is when I complete a lesson and it still shows as incomplete, even if I override it and mark it complete it is still red , not green and won’t let me advance to the next lesson. If you want to keep me using this app, better yet HEY FENDER IF YOU WANT ME TO KEEP PAYING, FIX THIS!

Recognize Another User. I originally paid for the app as a gift for my son. He never took advantage of it and after awhile I cancelled the app. I have tried twice now, with at least a year in between, to utilize the app for myself, but it still wants to recognize my sons email. This is frustrating, because he no longer has access to that email, and he does not remember the password. So they deny me access!! Takes my $$, but I have no way to get in to the app to learn. This is my 2nd attempt, with giving them another email. Very frustrating, and with today’s technology, it just seems like something should be able to be done to correct it.

Hard to follow. I’m loving this app, I’m learning so much! One thing that’s frustrating is that I can’t see the tabs as I’m playing along. For example, in level 2, Ode to Joy, he’s telling me which notes to play and the tabs are available, but I can’t swipe them along as I’m playing to see the next bar so they’re kind of pointless. I have a tablet that I’ve been writing them down in so I can practice but it would be so great if the tabs would be visible as they’re being taught.

Horrible customer service/support. During the free trail everything was good. After the free trail I paid for an annual subscription then the app required you to change your password. Then the issues began. It would never allow me to change my password then said I wasn’t a customer. I called customer support several times and nobody would call back. A month went by and I called again and all they would say is that they would submit another ticket to look into it. Horrible customer service and would recommend paying for annual subscription because they won’t help you after you pay

Good but. They give you the basics and give good overall quality to learn music theory and the other needed parts when it comes to learning an instrument. I can only wish that they do a better job in giving the user more of a challenge with songs after completing the paths. The songs that they have on this app are at there basic forms and it makes the app seem although good for basics very poor for guitar players wanting to learn the actual song in its fullest. Majority are tweaked or are only parts of songs.

Wish this was around when I was a kid!. Thank you fender play for creating this structured way to play electric guitar… I’m 30 and hadn’t played since I was a kid and I feel like I catch on to things well and I’m getting better at playing in ways I don’t think I would have if I did it another way, and I didn’t have to jump through hoops to find the right way for me to learn efficiently and effectively. Thank you!!

Very Buggy, Often Freezes. Many times when I try to go into the next segment it won’t load and I have to keep closing and reopening the app. Very frustrating to do so many times over and over for something you paid for. Also when I’m finished with a segment it often won’t automatically mark the segment as completed. Also when playing the last feedback session it keeps jumping up and down the staff for “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love Babe.” Would be a great app if there weren’t so many bugs but it makes it very cumbersome when trying to learn, especially as a beginner. Please fix.

Eukulele tutorial. Content and progression of lessons seem to fit my beginning skill level. My only issue is that as you progress and the lines of music increase, it is impossible to follow the music while watching the tutorial. They have a couple of ways to change video size, but are never able to see the music without taking your hands off the instrument and scrolling the screen down. I was also informed that there are no lesson books to purchase and don’t allow printing of music due to copy right issues. It is impossible to play along while watching a lesson. A very big short coming in my opinion to an otherwise good online course.

Great app. I just got my first electric guitar, and it came with three months of fender play. I already had a little knowledge of acoustic, and this app really helps me move to the next level. I especially love choosing a genre that most interests me. You can practice at your own pace, and everything is explained deliberately and in detail to help you understand as you go. Would recommend to anyone. :)

Great for what it is. Just hope you don’t need to cancel. Like everything these days it requires a subscription. And autopay. I got the app for my kid while in quarantine. He didn’t take to it. He’s too young I guess. App was great. As close to in person learning as you can get I suppose. Cancelling the auto-withdrawal proved to be frustrating and time consuming. It gives instructions for various platforms and the ones that appied to my situation worked. Which was app through iOS. I had to cancel finally through PayPal. Oh but I could upgrade easily!

Bait and switch. My son got a fender guitar for Xmas..Tried the trial version.. after wanted $4.99 a month special, he declined..found out he couldn’t get in the app without sub..deal changed to $7.99 a month with a year paid up front. Now it’s $9.99..Yeesh! What’s with all the changes, man!..why so greedy, there is no free content, no ability to go into your acct and all the time he spent on the app is gone. I know money makes the world go around, but with all the price changes..smh..you don’t show Me luv! ..I don’t show luv back. I rather go to an app that understands giving access BOTH free and sub options gives confidence to the consumer that you want to HELP them grow as an artist.

One of the best ways to learn!. Fender Play makes learning fun. I can practice at my own pace and also recap where I left off on the previous lesson without worrying about session time limits. The songs are pretty cool and the instructional videos are very informative. I also like the Fender Play community that is available through social media. This let’s students interact with each other by watching uploaded videos of progression.

Well worth the money. I absolutely LOVE Fender Play. I often get discouraged with real teachers because I don’t always have the time to practice consistently. I love how Fender Play encourages me to practice, but I can take it at my own pace. The videos are well made and informative, and they go at a great pace. The one time I submitted feedback, customer support got back to me very quickly. Plus, you get 10% off Fender gear. 10/10 would recommend

Wonderful, but needs landscape.. I love this app, and all the extra stuff thrown in, like the tuner, but tried to mount via capo on my guitar neck to practice while pacing around, and found out it did not do landscape orientation on the practice lessons, it only does landscape on the videos. I’ll see if I can find a capo that allows for a portrait phone orientation for the practice lessons, but would be better if this app rotated those as well. Also, keep in mind that landscape is also the orientation best for large screen mirroring, and well, now you have even more reasons for the app to support landscape. Please add this feature. Please also bump up the Streak tracking to include Achievement badges. That said, I look forward to using the app every day because it IS super awesome, with perfect bite sized lessons; but landscape mode would make it that much more the perfect tutor/practice companion. Cheers!

Fun and efficient!. I have always wanted to learn the guitar but never really knew where to begin. FenderPlay was the perfect solution. The short lesson format and amazing teachers they have on the site keep you motivated to learn. You can really feel the progress as you go through the lessons, plus the flexibility means it’s all tailored to your schedule. I started on February 1 and by Valentine’s Day could sing a song for my girlfriend! I didn’t think that was possible! Highly recommend!

So far so good!. I really enjoy the format of instruction. It’s quite easy to follow and it provides everything you need to be successful. The videos provide views from all angles, allowing the viewer to reference finger placement. I found that this app works best with an IPad, as the extra real estate enables you to read the tabs in the lower half of the screen, and watch the videos simultaneously on the upper half. I really hope Fender continues to upload new song tutorials.

Great Way To Restart. I have been playing on and off for 46 years. When I began there were almost no helps in learning other than private lessons or getting friends who could play to teach you. I enjoyed moderate success for many years playing rhythm and singing. I laid it down for the most part for several years. I am beginning again and going back to lesson one. I want to learn notes and lead. I enjoy the bite size lessons from Fender Play.

Beginner and learning from Fender!. I just purchased my guitar today. I brought the guitar home, and downloaded the Fender Play App. The app starts at the very beginning. For a beginner like myself, this is great! The instructors patiently take you through setting up your equipment. You learn the string names. The instructors add in a simple pneumonic device to help you remember the strings. (Easter Bunny gets dizzy at Easter) How easy is that?! I am just getting started tonight, but I can already tell that this is going to be a learning method that I can stick with. Samantha F. Seattle

Like having a guitar instructor 24/7. I have always dabbled in trying to learn guitar, but have never really advanced from novice to intermediate level. Fender Play’s lessons along the Rock Path make me feel that someday that will happen. It’s very convenient having the lessons on your phone, the lessons are organized well, and it’s well worth the $50 bucks for a year subscription.

An excellent learning vehicle. You read log of negative comments about this app. Totally disagree with a lot of statement being made. Most of the technical issues are resolved by closing other apps and screens first. The instructors are a little wooden and not as fun as some you tube instructors. Explanations and videos are very good. I spend at least an hour a day on my lessons for bass (rock). Lots of fun iconic riffs are on the lessons . There is no advertising at all. They don’t even discuss gear in the lessons.
