The Logic is Solid. The Logic is solid. Media is easier to digest when experiencing it through different mediums and senses that double down or reinforce the content being conveyed. In other words, listening is beneficial to understanding word. I don’t mean just hearing it ether. A word can be heard and not properly listened too, just a word can be read and not listened too, because listening is about actually retaining and being able to utilize the information conveyed. Think back to the last time you were asked to do something by a family member or loved one and ended up completely missing the mark. This is one example of hearing without listening. Interacting with that same information through both mediums enhances the average persons ability to listen. That being said I give the review four stars because I don’t exactly know what you pay for with premium. It’s not made clear until fiddling with the software some, and guessing at which features are and are not available to you. The UI could use improvement for intuitive use, but the logic is solid. Can’t wait to see how this app and idea improves.

NO FREE TRIAL THEY CHARGE REGARDLESS. I did love the “trial” I. Thought I would love the app. However $140 with only an option for a year was a little steep. So I canceled the plan before my trial was up.. or so I thought. It tells you to go into your Apple subscriptions to cancel.. the only option there was to cancel the “free trial”. So I did. So, imagine my surprise when I was charge the full amount and after the trial time my account had me listed as a yearly subscriber. So I kindly wrote the company to let them know and to request a refund. Well, they try blaming everything on apple. They wash their hands of it. Gave me a copy and past answer that I should have canceled prior to the trial ending. I said, I did. Then they went on to say that the trial is part of the yearly subscription. Well, then that’s not a free trial…. I did give them a chance to make it right.. the did not. So, now I am warning others so that they can avoid the same issue. I had even recommended the app to friends and family. I will be warning them as well. I have requested a refund through apple and hoping that they are able to help. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!!! Do not download! Do not sign up for the Fake-Free trial. There is NO TRIAL!!!!!!!!

Buggy, distracting, waste of time. I am a nurse practitioner student and I downloaded the app and paid for a subscription to help me be more efficient with my multiple reading assignments each week. I saw that this app was supposed to help with such a thing so I tried it. Unfortunately, in order to help with etextbook readings you have to scan the individual pages into the app, which is incredibly time consuming especially if you are studying medicine or nursing. The time it takes to scan multiple pages of a etextbook (or a regular textbook) I could have just sat down and read it like I normally do. I wanted to give the app a try anyway, so I scanned/took screenshots of three pages of my etextbook. When the program started to read it to me it switched voices AND languages (from English to Spanish) FIVE times on ONE page. How incredibly distracting! Not to mention that the website is buggy as well. I couldn’t get the payment dashboard to load to cancel my subscription. Thankfully, I used PayPal to subscribe and was able to cancel through them. I didn’t need the free trial to decide if the app was right for me. I downloaded the app, signed up for the trial, gave it a try, then quickly canceled my subscription and deleted the app, all within one hour. That’s an hour I could have spent actually reading the material or helping a patient. Save yourself the time and frustration. Skip this app.

WOW!. So helpful with ADHD. It tells you how many minutes it’ll take to read, taking away SO much of the intimidation I get from having to read anything. Pause at any time. It highlights the full sentence it’s on and follows along word-by-word “double highlighted.” It allows for dark mode. Love that for my light sensitivity! Tap the word you want it to start reading at if you’re skipping around. It’ll do exactly what you ask it to do. I wasn’t expecting it to be so good. I scanned two pages of my textbook. It even got the fine print and didn’t skip around to different paragraphs in a dumb way—even though the margins and pictures are designed in an awful way even for a human to read (thanks, dear engineers too cheap or stupid to hire real graphic designers with typography skills). It even read “g/mm^3” as “grams per cubic millimeter,” not “g slash m m carrot 3.” To top it off, the voice isn’t entirely annoying. The best automated voice imo, and believe me I’ve tried a ton. Maybe you can change the voice, but idk bc I just started playing with the app. Now I’m writing this review when I should be reading my textbook. Anyway, go ahead and download this app if you’re even on this page considering it—which ofc you are if you’re reading this rn. Good day. Edit—a few minutes later 🙃: Yes, you can change the voice. There are MANY to choose from! Excited to try them.

Go back to when you cared about your customers more than money:. New review: I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW EXPENSIVE IT IS for a yearly plan. If it was for life, maybe it would be worth it. To not even change the rate to be faster than 1.1 without paying over a hundred bucks annually hurts my soul. I’m a student and it’s a travesty that they don’t have some type of educational discount or understanding. Rude and avaricious. Old review: I absolutely love this app. I’m very slow and ADD when I read, but reading along with the app’s voice helps so much. I feel like I can actually read long articles and understand them in a normal amount of time. It’s also great when I’m getting ready and unable to read traditionally, as it helps to give a refresher from whatever text to comprehend it better. For school, it has been great to submit my papers and find inconsistencies bc of how it sounds here compared with my own voice. I love the functionality, too. It’s so handy how you can submit text or pull straight from the internet, and the fact that it’s on the “share” menu on my phone is incredibly convenient. I accidentally purchased the free trial and then was charged the full year amount for the premium version of the app, and when I reached out to their customer service they were so understanding and gave me a refund right away. I do wish the premium wasn’t so expensive for the extra voices, but literally everything else about speechify has been more than useful thus far. Highly recommend!!

Never Reading An Article On My Own Again..... This was my first time using the app, it can be hard for me to read because of my neuro-divergence and this app worked wonderfully for me. I tried to read an article that I was really interested in by myself three times and could not get through it. So I search text to speech apps, found this and I just finished the article. I am so thrilled to have read it and I retained the information. Now I am formulating my thoughts on the article and I figured I would come over and rate the app because it was really wonderful for me!! The narration (or text to speech) was very realistic, it was not super choppy or very “AI- ish”. It pronounced everything very well even things I thought it would mess up ... this article I just read would be a doozy for most text to speech apps and this one BREEZED right through. I LOVE the MULTIPLE playback speeds, as I could change it for an article that I want to pay closer attention too, I can slow it down even more. I also really appreciated the sentence being highlighted and the current word being double highlighted, it really helped me focus!! Cliff really put tremendous thought into this app and it shows. I think I might even pay for the premium sub to get the narrators voice ...I really liked him LOL.

I really wanted to like it. This is about the app for Mac but I’m sure these issues are the same on the phone app too. It’s a good concept and it would be really helpful if it actually knew how to read like an English-speaking person. It doesn’t know how to pronounce pretty basic words like “scientific” and other stuff as well as bigger words like “fundamentalism”. And it’s not just the specific voice, I used two very different voices (Snoop Dogg and Barak Obama) and it pronounced them the same. It’s just annoying because I constantly have to be watching along with it to understand some words. And sometimes it skips over part of a sentence all together and there’s no way to get it to read that part so I have to just read it in my head which would be fine except I have to be paying close attention to realize that that’s happened so I can go back and read it in my head. You can’t really listen without also following along so it’s just not great for multitasking. It also insists on reading the little copyright claim going up the side of the page between each new page and none of the “skip content” buttons account for this. It’s a good concept, just poorly executed and glitchy. If it was free I’d say it’s worth a chance but for the price it’s a ridiculous waste of money.

Taking advantage of people with disabilities. The idea is great and could really help someone like me with dyslexia. However, the lack of open dyslexic font, the app crashing, and the highlighted words not at all staying with the voice, it’s just sort of a unhelpful app based in a great idea. I’m a good reader for the most part and I read offer, I just wanted something that could help me work on my speed or at least decrease my fatigue. Unfortunately this app is just not there. The price is another thing which feels like it’s trying to take advantage of those with a reading disability. Like I get they need to make money, but I feel that the price is insulting. The founder apparently has dyslexia and instead of helping us he is trying to profit from us. As a teacher, I really wanted a great way to help my students with improving their reading, but I could not with good conscious suggest an app that will charge them $140 every year! There are far too many people who price gouge people with disabilities and it’s the same for people with learning disabilities. It’s awful and it makes me sad that this is considered acceptable. The makers of this app should be ashamed for taking advantage of people who are just trying to find a way to make life easier for themselves and others. Subscriptions are not a ethical way to charge customers, and they know it. It’s just about money to them and people with a disability are easy targets.

I love it but there are issues!. It pains me to give this app only 3 stars, because I love it so much. I’ve listened to 9.3 millions words (that is 698 listening hours) using speechify over the last 8 months. However, I’ve had significant issues with my premium subscription that can’t be overlooked. I got the year-long premium subscription about 8 months ago. With that subscription, I’m supposed to get 150k words of the premium HD voices every month. I love the HD voices, they sound amazing. So what’s my issue? My HD words don’t automatically renew every month. The first time I noticed it, I was able to contact customer service and they were able to manually renew my HD words. But that really shouldn’t be necessary! I shouldn’t have to contact customer service every month just to get what I paid for! I have found a non-HD voice that I like pretty well and sounds reasonably natural (I use British Female). So ultimately I’m not so bothered by this issue to stop using the app. But there’s clearly a major issue with their subscription system. Update: newest update is terrible! Now there are audio ads. I’ve gotten 4 ads in the last 10 minutes! That’s about every 2.5 minutes which is pretty much an unbearably annoying frequency of ads! Going to go listen to an audiobook instead.

Shoves “try premium for free” down your throat. I’m trying to use this app to help my reading speed and be able to multi task but every few minutes I listen to the audio it suddenly stops and puts up an ad advertising “try premium for free” speechify premium subscription plan. This happens consistently as I’m trying to listen to the audio and I have to manually close the ad in order to resume the reading. I should not have to deal with my audio CONSTANTLY STOPPING just to have this app slap me in the face with “TRY PREMIUM FOR FREE, TRY PREMIUM FOR FREE, TRY PREMIUM FOR FREE, TRY PREMIUM FOR FREE!!!!!” Over and over and over and over again. It severely increases the time it takes me to get through a reading because I have to keep resuming the audio every time. For an app that preaches to help “save time reading” it does a horrible job when it constantly stops you. Having that “free premium subscription” trial shoved down my throat does not come off as a well meaning app. It feels more like someone stopping you on the street and yelling at you to give them your money. It makes using this app more of a hassle than a time saver. If any of my friends asked me about speechify and if they should try the app for free I would tell them they should look for something else as this app will constantly badger them for paying for a subscription. Horrible app. STOP HAVING THE PREMIUM TRIAL AD STOP THE AUDIO. It’s beyond annoying

Works, but needs editing to work well!. I often listen along while reading to provide multi sensory input to improve my reading comprehension and memory, but the long time while editing can be counterproductive at times. Most of the documents I need to read, such as academic papers and textbooks, have multiple columns, text boxes, charts, etc. per page. For this to work correctly on Speechify, I find I must go through each page to edit the columns and mark each text area. This isn’t too bad, but the editing feature can be finicky and hard to line up if you don’t have neat columns for the entire page. There is only one “template” for up to 4 columns, but this doesn’t always align well with whats on the page. Columns and text boxes are doable, but charts not so much yet (but those are usually for visual studying, anyway). Additionally, it will miss spaces frequently and so bunches several words together, causing speechify to spell out the block of text letter by letter instead of interpreting the words. For this reason I often have to edit the text while reading/listening, too, to add the spaces or correct the punctuation. I find this app helpful for my needs (I have ADHD and autism and am in grad school with tons of heavy duty reading), but it requires a bit too much extra work for the high cost of the app!

Worlds greatest App. I just wish I had Speechify when I was a young girl I found out I was dyslexic when I was taking eighth grade over for the second time. They knew I couldn’t comprehend they knew I could read but the problem was I wasn’t retaining it and it was extremely difficult but their practice and wanted to show that I’m not stupid even though I was in special ed classes as well I started reading more and more and more two books at the same time then I got up to three books at the same time finishing them and just expanding my mind today because I was not in school and work you’re on a computer I’ve kind of gone backwards but I’m trying again I’m back in college and 53 years of age to get a bachelors degree not in my first choice and love but it nonetheless it is still business and I look forward to this the only problem I have is the price that needs to come down so that more people can use it because I’m doing the three day trial but I will not be able to afford the price of the whole program if I can get it together I will but anyone that reads this it’s a great app and it does work and for those children that need the help it’s worth of money and it’s worth the money for me I just cannot afford it on a fixed income thank you and God bless.

Could be great, but wasn’t able to fulfill its purpose for me. It sounds like a really great idea. I went through the trouble of getting a textbook through the kindle app so I could listen to it on my commutes to work and school. If you didn’t know, textbooks are pricey, even e-books, so that was already a commitment. Unfortunately, when I tried to listen to it, it told me that the licensure limit had been exceeded and that I needed to buy another copy or delete it from a device. The problem is I had deleted it from every device and it still wasn’t able to download it in the speechify app. This app does claim to connect to the kindle app, so there shouldn’t be this issue. I actually tried to download and undownload on different devices and it let me immediately download on those devices through the kindle app. However, when I tried to download on the same device through speechify it wasn’t having it. I did test novels on on speechify through kindle and it worked, but that’s not what I got this app for. If I wanted to listen to a novel, I would have used audible. I wanted to listen to a textbook with no other audio version. That was the entire reason I got this app and subscribed to the premium version. I can see how it could be useful, but they should fix these problems. I wasn’t able to use it for the purpose that I got it.

Glitchy product, bait and switch trial period. I am really disappointed in my experience with this app. When I did the three day trial initially, I was very impressed with this service. But conveniently, the second my payment went through for the actual premium membership, the app started having all these glitches. The first limitation I noticed was that it stops reading Kindle books randomly. I thought, OK, fine, I mostly just use it to listen to PDFs anyway. But then it started having issues while reading PDFs. It skips numbers entirely. Scary, demonic voices start playing out of nowhere. The voices randomly elongate vowels or pause in the middle of sentences. And now the speech abruptly drops at the ends of sentences, leading to a very choppy, robotic listening experience that is the opposite of what I paid for. As a consumer, especially in America, we’re regularly charged exorbitant amounts of money for subpar goods and services. Companies use these exact bait and switch tactics where they give you the optimized version of their product upfront. But once they get your money, you’re served up a nice cold dish of reality. I wouldn’t be so upset except this app is so expensive and this is not what I paid for. Save your money. Or at the very least, don’t be fooled by the quality performance of the trial period. It won’t last.

A Solid Text-to-Speech App But Terrible Pricing. I appreciate the functionality of the app; however, I find the pricing structure insane given the imperfections in some voices (they’re not terrible just not perfect and pronounces some words wrong). While I value the quality of two particular voices, the overall variety doesn’t align with the cost. I’m not paying crazy amounts for a text to speech app where I’ll only use two or three out of all the voices they have. Me saying two is me trying to be nice and not be negative. But honestly I could use only one voice and be satisfied. Paying that much for this app is counterintuitive. A more reasonable pricing model would encourage me to commit to the app. I recommend incorporating a feature that allows users to individually purchase the voices they prefer. Subscribing to the entire app, especially when one’s usage is confined to only a couple of voices, appears less logical. Introducing a selective payment option for specific voices would offer users a more flexible and cost-effective choice. Currently, I literally keep finessing the app and repeatedly using the free trial. I’ve been doing this for a long time now. It’s wrong. I don’t want to do that, that’s why I’m writing this. I think you guys do donations for dyslexia so I would much rather pay but until a reasonable pricing model I’ll have to continue that.

Over priced. I give this app a try to read me Microsoft word documents and possibly to replace my web page reader. First I tried using connect to desktop method to transfer docx files to app. Every time I tried to open one the app crashed. Then I transferred using the OneDrive method. The file opens put possibly 1 word in 10 was missing a letter that was present in original doc changing how word was read. Needless to say I didn’t listen to the gibberish for long. Then I tried it for a fan fiction book on a web site. This was complicated because app does not have any web browsing ability. 1st I had to bring it up in Safari then share it with app. The app actually did a better job reading it then my current were page reader app. But then I reached the end of the short chapter and could not just click on the button for the next page. To read next page requires you to go back to Safari go to next page then share again go to app find new shared doc and open. I mainly use my web page reader while driving for my truck driving job. The complexity involved in just getting to the next page. Would prove to be an unsafe distraction if I was driving while trying to use this app to read web pages. So with the trouble I had trying to get this app to properly load Word docs and the complexity involved in reading web pages I can not recommend this app especially with its high subscription price.

Beware Monthly Word Limit. While this a good service and app, things could definitely be improved. My biggest qualm so far is that there is a monthly word limit at which point you are unable to use most of the voice options and are stuck with a robotic sounding woman’s name. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and podcasts while I work or multitask and so I was excited to use Speechify to listen to books that do not have Audiobook companions, pdfs, and online content. Within about two weeks I hit the monthly word limit and am now unable to really use the service because the non-enhanced/premium voice option is not very good. Secondly, while this service does have a broad range of voices in English some are better than others in terms of sounding less robotic or monotone when reading aloud and so there are really only four or five that I found myself using regularly. Some of the voices sound more natural and are good with pacing and understanding how to read a document and others not so much. For example, occasionally a word or two will be skipped by the voice or a part of a document will be read more literally than it is meant to. For example, when “….” is used to imply a pause the voices are likely to pronounce “dot dot dot” at the same speed and pacing as the rest of a document or e-book. I will wait and see what if any improvements are made to the service to determine if I will keep paying for it once the renewal date comes up.

Audio Book Listening. I want to start off saying I’ve only used this app to listen to two audio books, I have not used the other features and from what I hear it sounds like the other features work fine. But, I don’t think I can muscle through using this app for another audio book ever again, and to be fair I’m probably not the target audience of the app in the first place. -Frequent app crashes. Frequent. -When pausing an audio book and opening the app later, the app regularly jumps to another paragraph in the chapter or ahead a couple of chapters. Sometimes I’d pause it for fun and hit play right after to see how many words or sentences it decided to skip. -I found that if my iphone is in low power mode, the audio will completely stop playing after a couple minutes and I have go back into the app to hit the play button, which then almost always jumps the audio reading to another section (see issue before). -Tapping the forward or reverse buttons, in other audio book apps (I know this isn’t an “audio book app”) this allows the listener to jump ahead or behind a few seconds, not this app. Sometimes it feels like jumping to a paragraph behind or ahead. Maybe it takes you to the beginning of the sentence. Sometimes it will just jump an entire chapter of the book. Once it restarted the book entirely; that filled me with an emotion I thought I had experienced before but after this experience I realized I had never truly tapped into the full potential of this emotion.

So helpful, but also disappointing. I use this app all the time and have for the past year or so. It used to be so great, but it just keeps getting worse and worse. They removed the search feature so I can't look for a word in a document. They removed the editing button so I can't edit a document once I've created it. And this is extra annoying because when I paste my textbook lessons into it, it'll paste around 3/4 of the lesson and then paste the entire thing. If that doesn't make sense, basically I'll be listening to a lesson and it'll suddenly start over so I have to fast forward and find the spot I was in. And I can't edit the document to remove the 3/4 of the lesson at the beginning. So annoying. It also messes up words all the time now. I don't know how it's possible that the AI got worse, but it did. One time there was a formula and instead of reading the formula it just said, "Eeeee" in what sounded like a slowed down E.T. voice. That kind of thing happens all the time. It doesn't say something wrong, it says something incoherent. Customer support was good when I contacted them a few months back about still wanting to use the search button; they quickly changed my app to the older version. But it updated again and it's so much worse now. I miss the old Speechify.

I love it!. You should definitely download this app! I’ve “read” so many books after using this app; more than I have in my entire life. I love the feature to listen as fast as you want. It’s fairly easy to use and figure out. I like the fun incentives to read more and the stats that show your reading progress. It’s an amazing app with plenty of great free features. The app is annoying sometimes. For instance, many times, some text will be run together with no space in-between words. So the voice will read it all out letter by letter. Sometimesitsentirescentenceslikethisanditseemslikeitshouldbeaneasyfix. I also wish that when a book needs to be split up into parts (i.e. part 1/2, part 2/2) the app would begin reading the next part immediately after the last part ends. Finally, I really wish something could be done about citations. I was reading a book recently that for some reason insisted on listing the source info at the end of practically every other page. It would be great if there was an algorithm that could weed that sort of stuff out. The benefits of this app far outweigh the minor issues. I’m looking forward to continuing my book binge!

Great app.. The whole Speechify suite has really matured in the last 1-2 years. I feel like it does a lot better with academic textbooks and journal articles where it previously had struggled. The fact that highlighting as it reads is also available across multiple platforms is fantastic. There’s really only one thing that impedes the overall workflow when using it for academic reading… no highlighting (or note taking) capabilities. While this may slow down the overall process, being able to highlight a sentence to go back to (even if it isn’t a full PDF editor experience) would be awesome. Right now I often have PDF Expert or Zotero open on my iPad for highlighting while the same document is on my laptop for actually reading to me. This takes away the very, very, very user friendly aspect of highlighting the sentence being read (and slightly darker highlight for individual word), which I think is where the app really shines in making speed reading more attainable for a broader audience. I hope they continue to improve and innovate (and maybe give us some highlighting function :). My only other gripe is lack of feature parity across web, iOS and desktop apps… It’s been getting better, but I wonder why “auto increase speed” isn’t available on iOS or desktop.

I used to love speechify... I’ve had this app in the past, I loved how I could just scan pages, as someone with ADHD I find it miserable to read long chapters and liked I could listen to my textbooks as I did other things. However it’s changed since I re-downloaded it. If you’re using the free version it interrupts SO many times to advertise the paid version, I understand the need to advertise but it’s so pervasive that I can hardly justify the time it saves me because it is so distracting. It made me want to find a new app more than pay for the Speechify subscription. Now however the app won’t download files I add, it won’t process them, I thought it was because I had about 50 pictures worth of files, however I deleted that version after 3 days of seeing if it was uploading (meanwhile having a good WiFi connection over multiple networks) and it was still at 0%. I retried and did half as many files and it did the same thing, then I tried just one and it still isn’t working. Despite maybe some technical difficulties on the app’s end, after all of that I really lost a lot of time and faith in this app, it’s just not reliable and the “mission statement” of the developer wanting to help others save time and help those with issues reading long passages just doesn’t ring true to my recent experience using it.

Fraudulent. Don’t let this company have your data. Will attempt to recharge your card (with zero communication) despite your subscription being set to “do not renew” after the year is up. Shady company that is committing fraud, on an already extreme expensive product. Support is very bad, and contacting them makes clear their backend systems & operations are a mess. Your data and financial info is not safe in their databases Definitely do not let a company like this have data on every single thing you read and access to your browser history. EDIT: interesting Speechify’s “leadership” response seems to be blaming Apple and washing its hands of re-charging people’s credit cards without authorization despite documentation of do-not-renew. To be more explicit—Speechify has been sending me emails about re-charging my card hundreds of dollars without authorization after the conclusion of a 1-year subscription, and complaining the charges are declined. When I reached out to customer support saying renewal is turned-off, and to please delete my data/info, they responded with *five* emails, including asking me for my credit card info/trying to pitch me Speechify. They ignored my request to delete my account and data (violating state law) and then blamed me for a 3-day trial? Do they think I re-signed up for 3day trial following a 1year subscription? That’s not even a possible flow.

Helps simulate a classroom. I recently got back into school and I quickly found out how much I miss normal in-class sessions. All my classes are online and while I thought all classes were zoom-calls or at least video lectures, I was wrong. Most of my lectures are typed out and between that and a book I find myself really struggling to understand it without hearing it. Now once I found Speechify and saw how many voice options there is I knew it would be perfect! As soon as I got my documents downloaded I was able to take notes while listening like a normal class lecture. It’s even better in some ways because I can actually go back and repeat parts I missed or didn’t understand quite yet. I think the only thing that would make this app even better is the ability to view Speechify in split-screen. I’m not sure how it works for different platforms but I have an I-Pad Pro. So far I have just been viewing the lecture on the Files app in split screen while I type notes in the other. I’d like to be able to interact with Speechify in split-screen instead. Thank you for making this app though! It helped me get back on track for college!

From excellent to non-functional. For graduate school reading for the past 2 years, I’ve used this app intermittently while also using Apple’s native reader for reading textbook and journal articles. I was originally satisfied with the app but noticed that this app has progressively gotten worse with its new changes, not better. You would hope for improvement not regression. First they added too many voices and half the time it wouldn’t load the voice I selected and would switch to different voice mid-read. That was at least functional. After returning from summer break, I discovered that Speechify has become non-functional for academic work. It will automatically import the PDF but it can’t handle the reading. It jumps all over the place. I tried with 2 different documents. Although their prior system was time consuming, I did not mind completely processing the documents or complex textbooks myself if it ensured the reading order was correct and unnecessary text was removed from being read. It’s clear that they did not do appropriate level of user testing before releasing a system to “automatically” read that cannot handle all types of text. Minimally, they should have a kept a a manual import option to override these problems. If you are a college student, do not get Speechify look into other applications or Apple’s text to speech works relatively well for many things.

I used to love this app!! Then was charged $160. I was Speechify’s #1 fan!! But lately, the app has been glitching, and when I deleted & redownloaded it, I was charged $160 without warning. When I reached out to Speechify via email, they said I had to reach out to Apple. When I reached out to Apple, they said I was ineligible for a refund, potentially because Speechify had already received the funds. It looks like this has happened to other people too, and it’s a huge bummer because this app has so much potential & has been really helpful for me in the past. See below for my old ~glowing review~. *** Old Review: I’m in grad school & this app has made working through readings not just easier & faster, but has also allowed me to retain more information & understand my readings better. I usually play the readings on my phone using Speechify & then read along, which makes me feel like I have someone sitting there, reading my homework to me (which I guess, in a way, I do). As a Black person, I appreciate that Speechify has begun to include a diversity of voices to choose from (currently listening to Mr. President but fingers crossed for more) and as someone who has to read a lot of longer texts, I’m psyched about the new option to upload Kindle books. Thank you, Speechify! This app has been a game changer for me. *** Hopefully they get back on track! That was a whopper on my bank account though, so they might have me as a fan again, but maybe they’ll have you?

Not worth 1 star to me. I canceled my free 3 day trial and the 2nd day. I went in the app to do so and it directed me to the website to proceed to cancel my subscription and because this happened to me 4 days ago with a different app and they refunded me because they did unrightfully charged me the year subscription. Unfortunately speechify did the same to me today and withdrew $160 as form of subscription yearly payment even after I honored the terms and conditions agreement that they would not charge me if I cancelled within the 3 days of the free trial. Witch I did and yet they couldn’t follow there own terms and conditions verification. Unprofessional and not even doing what they can to correct the problem other then saying sorry but apple support will need to assist me and sends me a link that’s I had completed before I reached out to them to inform them of what they wrongly did to me. I even did a survey following me canceling and confirming my cancellation of the free three day trial before trial is up answering the question they asked about why I was canceling and didn’t want to pay for the subscription charge after my free trial was up and I said it’s not reasonable or worth $160 for a year because the AI’s wouldn’t say the right words that where in the literature and books i chose them to read for me as well as couldn’t pernounce 40% of the words it was reading to even slurring words together. Poor quality performance in so many ways!

Working worse & worse since purchasing. I purchased this the first week of January 2023 to support my graduate school reading. The learn best with a combination of listening and following along in the book and am also a slow, easily distracted reader. I utilised the 3 day free trial (short) to assure that the app worked effectively with journal articles and textbook photo uploads. It worked well! Not perfect but it really was saving me a lot of time and i was learning to count on Speechify each week. About twi weeks ago the app stopped reading my articles and allowing me to batch upload pages (this was a trouble shooting solution a tech gave me), the app became slow and had to buffer after just a sentence or two, frustrating and irritating, it stopped properly reading sentences from uploaded text reading simple words like “the” as “T” and making listening impossible. I have reached out to the techs with out response or response with blanket responses like “please re download the app” I am frustrated because i got to enjoy the app and experience it working well. I have used it on the computer, iphone and ipad and all versions now are inferior to my experience prior to two weeks ago. I paid for a year membership and now am strongly considering disputing this because the app is proving to be useless and an actual waste of my time now.

Very awesome, but unreliable.. The good: The idea of this app is genius, and it has taken me from barely being able to read a page every 5 minutes to reading a page in less than a minute. As a student in biblical theology, with sometimes 15 books to read at one time, it has been a really cool and useful tool. The bad: although this seems to be a fairly well know app by now, it has an extravagant amount of glitches. No it’s not my internet or my phone. I’m a 20 y/o who knows how to use technology. The amount of glitching and uploading problems that this app has often time makes it more work than worth. By the time I have the pages scanned and I figure out all of the glitches, I could have been done reading it by myself. The costumer service has been nothing but nice… they just take days to respond. When you have a reading report due in 5 hours, and your reading app that makes it possible is pooping out, you don’t have days to wait for a response. If you are planning on using this to train yourself how to read better on casual for-fun reading, then it’s cool. But don’t expect it to be reliable enough for school grades that can determine the whole path of your life. At the pretty pricey premium, I don’t know how long I’ll be able to afford it if it’s not going to be something I can rely on.

No LIE. That’s the absolute truth I’ve had severe ADHD and as you get older… i’m a 55 year-old still teaching part-time teacher… And it’s very hard for me to read because I’m 25 steps ahead now I’m naturally 100% auditory/visual learner… I’ve been an artist since I was four years old prodigy… And I’m not bragging, but Dev this program you can process and I write now to professionally… Can you believe that I barely graduated high school because my reading comprehension was terrible… Actually, my high school as well as many other Towson like Raven high school very myopic in the administration in the upper levels extremely poor… Baltimore at that time had one of the worst reading scores, but as Einstein says books are a mass production to scheme…. He was terrible at math, but love physics and you think I’m to see three dimensions just like my Angelo… And many other great people who have studied in the 3D world…. of the mindset that all of us have the ability to leave our monkey mind sets behind completely once we hit about 20% of our brain usage. It’s like magic… The government in the military knows this and they are keeping us in a state of war and they are trying to keep the world and this is not just the US. This is everybody…. and entrance and vines these we don’t need in sleeves just sitting behind the desk all day long….. anyway check out Stephen Greer, Dr. Stephen Greer.

Promising app but disastrous updates hinder performance. This is a really promising application but unfortunately the last several updates have damaged the functionality. Early versions of the app stored files on your phone and downloading them was lighting fast and when you opened your app later to finish reading your downloaded files they were instantly there for you to read. A few updates ago the application was changed so that files you download now sync with servers in an attempt to allow you to view your files across the Chrome app (this is what the devs explained to me when I pointed out the new updates’ problem), however this syncing requirement means when you open the app it takes absolutely ages for your files to load, sometimes over an hour. I have not cancelled my premium subscription yet because I know this app can function better, because it used to prior to the damaging updates. I communicated these concerns to the developers and I’m patiently awaiting the next update to see if this issue is addressed. But since these new updates I’ve had a really hard time using the app and I’ve been searching for a replacement that doesn’t have these issues. UPDATE: I have cancelled my subscription as the app experience continues to get worse. My saved files now mostly won’t sync and are thus not accessible usually for about 15 minutes after the app loads. This server sync delay is unacceptable in a subscription product

Putting a cap on premium voices did me in.. I admit that I was blown away when I first heard some of the voices Speechify had. I have been using Voice Dream since 2019 and with their move to a subscription-based price scale, wanted to see what other options I had. The voices from Speechify sound so much better than VD’s! I almost had a heart attack when I saw the yearly price. $160 for premium PER YEAR. I would have strongly considered it if it had been a one-time fee. I was strongly considering it anyway until the last day of my admittedly short trial when the audio I was listening to repeatedly kept stopping. And then I read the reviews about a monthly cap on words read by premium or HD voices. I reached out to Speechify to confirm and yes, the premium voices are capped at 150K words per month, but you can listen to their “other” voices all you want. I can listen to “other” voices for free on VD. To put it into perspective, I listened to 3 novella length books during my trial, at a total word rate of 92K. At this rate, I could listen to about 5 novellas before I’m capped out. So…4 days. 4 days of premium voices for $160 a year, in addition to audio that cuts out. Yes, it’s much easier to import books directly via the Kindle app (which also allows me to listen to KU titles) but that’s pretty much the only added functionality Speechify has. If they got rid of the word cap, I would probably subscribe. As it currently is, it’s a big nope.

Good, not great for books. Paying subscriber here. I’ll start by saying that the technological leap in AI voices is truly astounding and I won’t overlook that in this review. The technological feat that Speechify has accomplished (at least when using the more refined voices) is close to magic in how well it handles a variety of text, including historical books with odd names and pronunciations. That said, there are problems. 1) The voices are all over the place in terms of quality and “listenability.” Most of the English voices are annoying, but also sound more robotic than others. There are some gems though. Benjamin is my favorite and is clearly just better than most others at tone and pronunciation. I wish there were more useable voices that I actually want to listen to for a whole book. 2) Whole books are difficult to navigate. Good luck to you if need to get to a specific place to resume reading. You have to drag a slider through the whole thing, pausing and wondering “did I read this part already?” Lacking are even a basic table of contents pulled from chapters and headers and there are no bookmarks. I’m assuming that Speechify is optimizing more toward short form content, but you really gotta nail the basics in my opinion.

This has helped me SO much!. As a dyslexic college student, drowning in the required readings and endless emails thrust upon pupils I have found myself trying anything and everything to increase my comprehension and reading speed. I simply don’t have time to reread a medical review 500 times as my brain unyieldingly demands! This app has been a savior to my grades, comprehension, confidence, and has boosted my craving for reading and knowledge! I would recommend this to anyone and everyone! Also, you can put books, yes real actual books you read for entertainment, into the app and create your own audiobooks! This app hasn’t only helped me in my college life, it has gotten me back to reading again! Love it!! The only negative thing I would say about this app is the premium version is EXPENSIVE. I tried it out to get a voice more personable and engaging but I found the cost more than I could justify. I love the premium voices (especially Harry!!) but as a broke college kid I just can’t afford it. Would you maybe consider making a free voice that is a little less monotonous? Maybe y’all could make Harry free? Yes, the latter request is a bit far reaching but it was worth a shot😅. Anyway - love the app and would recommend time and time again!!

I’m loving it!. I always read really slow compared to others and I always tend to read better with someone/something reading it out loud. On this app though I can just easily take a picture of my book pages and it loads within a minute which is really fast and amazing and I just listen to it. It does mess up on some of the words which is understandable that’s why I’m glad I can just edit the text from what ever it messes up. I love how you can just add folders because I’m separating my book by chapters because that’s easier and to make it a whole lot easier I just add it in a folder with the book title as the folder name. It’s easy to add series also because I can add folders within a folder and I find that absolutely amazing. I’m glad I found this app so I can actually read better and read more of what I love! I already been suggesting this app to a lot of people and I only got it yesterday. I love this app already! I’ve been listening to my book all day while doing some work without buying things like some ebook apps even though they're some things you can buy like translation and voices which I might actually buy soon! ❤️❤️❤️Thank you so much! You’re such a life saver! I’m glad this app exists!❤️❤️❤️

Speechify customer rep may need his own product more than me!. Tried to access a 3 day trial, instead they pulled $175 from my account on a Thursday evening, told me they couldn’t initiate a refund and I had to go through Apple. Left me with $18 (still haven’t gotten a refund), my bank deactivated my card because I filed the claim as fraud. Missed several monthly payments and so now my credit will be impacted, and “Ricky” decides after 3 days to tell me that I somehow had a trial over 2 years ago and that’s why I got charged….??? The offer even has a slider button that says NOTIFY me before I am charged. That was selected and it still didn’t happen. What I remember is that 2 years ago they were using G. Paltrow’s voice and that it sounded choppy and uncomfortable. I don’t remember any free trial, just listening to a sample. I could be wrong and would have declined a subscription at the above price and looked at other options. The point is that there were no options offered. There still aren’t and they are still contacting me after I requested that they NOT. To make it worse, they aren’t contacting me to make amends for what happened, they are continuing to tell me why this is somehow my fault…..Potentially amazing product with absolutely no concept of customer relations much less customer service. Someone should tell Snoop as that is their new hook. Major disconnect, really negative experience and no feeling of concern from them. Thanks “Ricky”……🤦🏻‍♀️

Awesome. I too have dyslexia. And I hated school for this reason. I couldn’t read stuff like my friends. I was always behind. I took so long to do homework because of it I couldn’t go out and play with my friends. I hated it. I cried and fought with my mom a lot. They put me in a special reading class to try to teach me how to turn the letters and words around. I even reverse numbers sometimes. When I was in first grade I had a teacher who would yell at me for not being able to read instead of trying to help me. So my parents held me back and put me in a different school. Where the teacher had seen it before and knew the signs for dyslexia. And I was tested and found out that’s what it was. I appreciate so much you creating this app. I do wish it didn’t cost so much. I understand you have to pay for the development and to keep it up to date. But that is a lot. I did teach myself to read and I do read books. But it does take me a lot longer than everyone else because of the dyslexia. But I do it anyway and even enjoy reading now. When I was a kid you would never see me read. But again thanks for creating an app that helps with that. I just wish the cost was lower I can’t afford that much a year at one time. Or if you had smaller monthly costs too that would be better for someone like me. Thanks again. I will use the free version for now. 👍🏻

For Mental-Visual Learners. This is probably the only app that is critical in my life. It might sound counterintuitive for me to say that the app that lets you listen to text is for visual learners but hear (lol) me out. Research (google it) has shown that whether we are looking at images through our eyes or seeing/conjuring images in our mind's "eyes", the visual cortex becomes active. Let me rephrase, regardless of whether you're seeing things in reality, say pictures or text on a book or visualizing what you did yesterday, the same part of the gain is being used to process those "images." The way I comprehend and learn from information is by constantly forming mental images of the concepts and linking and rearranging them into a graph model in my head--this becomes slow/more difficult when I have to (using the same visual cortex) basically multi-task/process text I'm reading on a page and synthesize corresponding mental images; the same part of my brain is doing the processing for two different tasks, so my reading speed and the quality and speed of the synthesized information in my head suffer. This is where speechify comes in. Speechify lets me engage my auditory cortex, which is otherwise unused in learning (from reading), for consuming and processing the information (text) and allows me to fully engage my visual cortex for comprehension and learning. I hope this makes sense, and I'd love if people could share any supporting or conflicting research.

Trying to time it. All through elementary school junior high and high school when we would take turns reading I would skip ahead and figure out which chapter I was going to have to read. I will go over it and over and over in my head of course by doing this I had no idea what everybody else had read because I was so focused on trying to be able to read and not in barest myself and burst out crying. When somebody got skipped for the teacher changed the order I would go into a complete panic and then I would’ve fake illness or the bathroom break. When teachers would just call upon students to read the whole time I would be looking down trying to be as small as I possibly could and saying over and over in my head please don’t call on me please don’t call on me I have always felt dumb I have yelled at myself why are you so stupid and then I found out I too have dyslexia and ADHD I love audiobooks I want to learn and know about everything but there’s so many books out there that are not audio thank you so much for making simplify you have changed my unknown dark reading world into a magical fantasy sincerely Melissa

Awesome Creation!. This is most definitely one of the most effective and productive process assisting programs ever created! It’s absolutely incredible! You can increase your ability and triple or quadruple your productivity in a matter of hours and get leaps and bounds ahead of your goals, expectations and colleagues with amazing results and accomplish your tasks in fractions of the time! It’s creators like this that make programs like this out of shear desperation and necessity that are absolutely required by so many that just need that one tiny bit of encouragement that really just doesn’t exist until it’s created like this so that they/we can become successful and surpass even our own wishes, ambitions and dreams which we thought impossible! Thank you for all your pain and suffering! All your hard work and misery! All your ambition and frustration! All your aggravation and accomplishments! All of your failures and triumphs! All your pain and dedication! You are: “ONE IN A MILLION”! This will help so many that have hidden in the dark on the sidelines for so long for fear of discovery! They will now come running out of the shadows to enlighten the world with their light and knowledge to show everyone their strength, ability and capabilities because of you and because of this! Thank you!

Intrusive tutorial feels like an advertisement for a misguided business model. The fact that you have to sit through a minute and a half of advertisement, (where in the speaker, in a deep male voice grumbles “my name is Gweneth Paltrow” due to what must be a software mistake) before you get to use the service is ridiculous. The developers of this app need to understand that the amount of people who will be motivated to pay money for a service like this is near to none. The ability to have speech read to you digitally is so close to mandatory with the purchase of a modern device, that the thought of subscribing and paying a monthly fee for something that my phone can do for me if I’m just a little less lazy is absolutely ludicrous. I have to sit through a minute of your service incorrectly reading an advertisement for me to subscribe to the premium offering of the service, when this should never be something anyone ever has to pay money for. If you must be money grubbing and you can’t fight the urge to monetize even the most simple and complimentary of electronic functions, i.e. text to speech, then at the very least just throw trashy and unneeded advertising breaks in at random intervals, like all of your soulless compatriots. After you peel all the fake price tags off, it works okay though.

No hate for the creator but.... The text recognition needs a lot of work, I imported a book of which all of the pages are formatted into 2 columns, the app registers each new line as a new sentence, and for words that continue on the following line, the app registers those as two separate words. When there's actually a new sentence the app would often fail to register that a new sentence has started, but instead continues to read the passage at a constant pace from before the new sentence has started, making comprehension difficult. If you plan on listening to this app while you're doing other activities, you can forget about that, you'll have to be reading your text while you're listening to understand. This isn't an issue with me not paying for the premium service, this is an error at the very fundamental level of the software. The app provides voice options such as Arnold Schwarzenegger & Gwyneth Paltrow, which are some fun features, but they're offset by the subpar text recognition. The app also mispronounces simples words like "creativity" as creativi-tie. The skip forward/backwards button doesn't work properly. The app does not provide the option to import book from the files app, instead the document must be uploaded into a cloud storage platform to be accessed from the app. This app needs a lot of work, do not pay for this unless you don't mind being ripped off.

Flashy ads, crappy product. Pretty big rip off.. UPDATE: March 2022– I can’t emphasize enough — don’t waste your money on this app. They still haven’t figured out basic things like “Mr.” or “Dr.” is not the end of a sentence. They need to spend less money on ads and actually bring their product up to speed with basic technology. It’s better than nothing— but not by much! ORIGINAL REVIEW This app seems like it was rushed to launch with the technology and features not ready for prime time. I want to like this so much. And if you’re driving and need to hear an article, it’s better than nothing. But the best voices sound extremely computer generated. And the better sounding voices (there’s one that sounds a lot like David Attenborough) just don’t work well. Pauses where there shouldn’t be pauses. Mispronunciation of extremely common words. (It calls Fauci “fau-sy…like how do you not update your software to recognize insanely common proper names?) And again, I cannot overstate how impossible it is to comprehend an article when the AI reader puts random pauses in places where there are no grammatical pauses. If you need something to read you an article in a punchcard fine. But it’s not worth the money just yet. They need to work out the technology before justifying this kind of price. Maybe use some of the money you’re paying for slick advertisements and use it to develop this product more. Because right now, you’re overselling it.

It’s not worth this kind of money. I truly wonder if they are charging this much for this app strictly because they think students will spend their loan money on something like this, only to have it be crappy and not be able to get their money back. I’m on day 2 of the free trial and I found that I need to sit in front of my computer and follow along with the reading because if I get up and move away from the screen whatever the app is supposed to be reading will continue on another page and the speech doesn’t continue, it goes to whatever pictures or boxes are on my textbook page that it was reading and starts reading those in basically gibberish because it tries reading the actual pictures: maps and what not. I was sitting here, waiting for the desktop app to open my history book and I got up and went to the door to look outside and the narration started. But when I got closer to the sound, I heard that it was literally just gibberish so I took a video to send to the developers. I couldn’t see where the narrator was supposedly narrating from and couldn’t find it but I heard it saying letters over and over and over again and like erroring out. This is probably happening 50% of the time I try using this program. Considering they want $140 for this, I’m canceling my free trial early in case it charges me before I expect to be charged. Good luck.

Seriously?. I am a student in high school trying to cram study the night before my unit exam for my medical class. I downloaded this app to help me because I have a hard time reading documents on my phone, so I needed it to be read to me. I gave this app two stars because during my “seven day free trial” the readers voice I selected and the speed at which it read was all very nice, until it told me the voice I had selected (after two minutes of reading) is now a premium voice and I have to switch to a more AI sounding voice. Which then I thought okay, kind of annoying since I did think I would have this available for seven days but whatever. So, I again go back to listening and then the highlighted words that was supposed to tell me where the reader was at kept bugging out and wasn’t correctly following the words. After all of this I was six minutes into my nine minute long document and it then told me that my words had maxed out, and I will have to buy the premium version in order to keep reading. At this point now, I’m very frustrated since I was just looking for an app to read to me and help with my assignments (like it said it was going to at the start of my “seven day free trial”). I will definitely be going back to coping and pasting my texts into google translate and listening that way. No hate, just really disappointed. :(

Audible or Speechify?. I spent hours comparing text to speech apps, and by far, Speechify has some of the best premium HD voices. I even considered dropping Audible, so that I could pay for an unlimited amount of HD voice listening time; however, while the HD voices are great, they’re not reliable enough for me to consider them as a replacement for Audible just yet. At times, they’re slow to load or glitchy. I wasted a good 200 or so words listening to Gwyneth lisp her way through sentences as if she was lapsing into a different language. I fiddled with her speech rate trying to remedy the problem, but it was to no avail. I had to switch to Michael. Michael read through everything perfectly, but he too had trouble staying on task. Even though I had plenty of of HD listening words left, he would intermittently cut out and be replaced by the British Male speaking voice. With all things considered, this is an app worthy of downloading. It does a respectable job transferring words from pictures—better than most. Sometimes, to my astonishment, it can read my handwriting. It hasn’t crashed, and apart from the HD voices, the standard voices seem quite reliable. I like that I can earn HD words the more I listen, and that there’s enough to stay entertained with in the free version. With a bit more perfecting, Audible might find itself facing the boot in favor of this nifty little app. For now, Audible is safe from the chopping block.

A must have for book lovers. This year I listened to my first audio book and I loved it. There are so many times during the day when I would listen to my book; while doing the ton of dishes in the sink, cleaning, cooking, etc. After I finished my book and continued my daily chores without having it, I realized how much I missed it and how much of my brain function wasn’t being used anymore like it was. All this extra time during my day could be spent enriching my mind instead of just staring at the wall in front of me while doing my dishes for an hour lol I have a few books I keep putting off because of the time it takes to sit down and read them. I still take my time to sit and read which is very therapeutic, but having it in my ear whenever I wanted was something I wanted back. I saw an add on instagram about this app and I clicked so quick! It took just a couple minutes to take pictures of my book pages and it’s like magic! It’s easy to do, you can customize the voices, reading speed, etc. Usually when I download a new app I’m skeptical but I’m blown away by this. My wish has come true lol

Minor Dyslexic. I love this! I have always thought I have been a bit dyslexic... I can read but I read slower and mess up some words sometimes. I told my parents that I think I have a small case of dyslexia but they always said no. They always said you just need to practice reading more. They were right. Kind of! If I work really hard at it and am in a quiet place with no distractions, I can read a book. I’m not fast. I’m not sure I comprehend everything I should but I can read. I never liked reading until I got into high school. That is when I finished my first chapter book with out anyone reading to me. My dad would always read to me for my “lit circles” or text book assignments. I love him for that! He is one of the reasons I graduated at the top 10 of my class in high school and first two years of college! He never gave up on me and he was always there to help me no matter what I needed help with! He is my hero! Mom too! She was not very good at reading either but she did better at math. I am now attending my 3rd year of college online to become a teacher and I love to read. Speechify will just speed things up for me a bit is all! Thank you! ❤️

Grateful, grateful, grateful! Thank you!. I am SO grateful there is FINALLY a app that is capable of reading out loud for me! With ADHD, Anxiety, and learning disabilities I struggle with just getting though a page, and I love to collect books and as much information as possible with ALL the good intentions possible to read and grow! I beat myself up for buy all the things I do (reading wise) bc I struggle with getting that time and focus long enough to read. Being a single momma of three kids ages 12,6,&5 and a fur mama of a cat and dog, I am very busy. Being able to hear the information of topics I am super interested in is LIFE CHANGING! I love my audiobooks! But when wanting to read websites (just finally was able to listen/read about CBT for ADHD on a website by copy and pasting the url! Life changing!), college text books (haven’t tried this feature just yet but I plan to soon) and I am looking forward to being able to have my email read about my kids endless school stuff! I have been searching for YEARS now for something that could help me and hands down this is what I have needed! Thank you for creating this app. Also keeping this app’s add on features at a reasonable price! I will be doing the add on for the speed preference and I want to support someone who created something so user friendly and for those like me who want to grow and yet are stuck and struggle with all the personal stuff that keeps us from growing! Thank you!

Studying Efficiency Doubled. For a long time I’ve been actively looking for a better way to study. Among my strategies is a time consuming, “actually reading aloud” important notes and sometimes whole passages into a handheld voice recorder. Many times, I have to review and replay small sections. I either have to record in small bits to select small sections or rewind and scan through large whole passages guess-timating more or less what I want to review. It can become a tedious process and makes for inefficient study but with this app I simply select the section I want to replay by touching the screen, along with the playback speed and tone and accent of voice choice. At $12 a month and as an active duty military member, a part time student, and a law abiding citizen trying to keep up with world news the premium for the app was contemplated for all of 20 seconds. I didn’t want to do it but I’ve made way worst financial decisions in the past. WHY NOT! If you don’t get the app you will be making a tiny mistake in your life. Also I must mention that there are free aloud readers out there but everything needs an active internet connection. Having the freedom to carry my smartphone and headphones around without being attached to a laptop is worth its weight in gold.

Gwyneth Paltrow read me my thesis!. I love this, but you can tell it’s in its infancy a little. The tone of the reading does sound a little robotic (no more or less worse than “Siri” I would say). The Gwyneth and Narrator (very Attenborough-ish) are fun to listen to and probably sound the least robotic. The actual software probably works better off my phone than my computer so far I would say. I had a few issues getting the Chrome extension on my laptop to work unfortunately (when I click on the icon, it doesn’t usually work/do anything). I had to install/reinstall and restart my computer to get it to work initially, and even after that it’s still weirdly clunky. I contacted support about this and they got back to me quickly which was a good positive! I think once these little quirks are fixed, it’ll be phenomenal. I never thought I would hear my own university essays/thesis being read by Gwyneth Paltrow, but here we are!

Not bad just doesn’t pours or copy text as it is typed. If it copies and read text exactly as it is would be great. I sent hours editing a chapter so it read right and it just push all the writing bad together and read it straight again with out punctuation. You do get use to it and it slowly edges up the speed of reading overtime. That’s ok toll the kids interrupt you then you have to start again slower. But ok just needs some tweaking here and there by developers.

Changing my life! Thankyou!!. I work in the music industry as a manager and an A&R now for a major label and I am dyslexic. The premium voices have made so much of my work so much easier with stress being a lot higher in this current climate. I can stay focused, comprehend and do more. Honestly I wish Speechify (& my other go to tool Grammarly) were the default on all Mac products and that they were more a tiny bit more in built for work flow with Dropbox / Google Workspace / iBooks and Microsoft Office etc. I do really wish I could use speechify in iBooks tho. That would be also great. :)

Limited functionality. Very limited opportunities for its use. I can only use it on my IPad or for web sites on Chrome on a Mac I can’t use it on my work PC or have it read PDFs on my i Mac. So everything has to be copied into the Speechify iPad app to be able listen to them. The app is not able to distinguish text from separate columns on pages that have multiple columns such as magazines and newspapers and quite a few books. It just reads across the multiple columns as if its one text block, jumbling up all the sentences. The reading pattern is jerky and doesn’t correspond to real reading rhythms. The app can’t distinguish numbers in the form years, or of monetary sums.

The set up process is completely useless. I downloaded the app, and it started a slow process of me having to listen to a super slow introduction session where I have to customise my experience or whatever. The guy reads super slowly and I can’t do anything to speed it up or skip it. Which wouldn’t be that big a problem if it doesn’t just get stuck in the “choose your free voice” step, prompting me to exist the app, and when I go back, I’m thrown back to step one. So now the app is completely unusable cos I’m stuck in a forever loop of setting up. Just let people skip these steps and go straight to logging in/ using the actual app lol. We can set those stuff up ourselves in the settings later.

Jumbles text making it completely unworkable. I read a lot of textbooks and got excited about this idea as I read other books using Audible mainly, but they never have audiobook versions of my textbooks. This app has quite a few voices to choose from and some don’t sound too computerised, so I got my hopes up further. Then I scanned a few pages and started to listen, it all went downhill from there. Some paragraphs were reasonable, though the app can’t handle when a work goes over two lines with a -, but other paragraphs had every line jumbled up so it was complete nonsense. It also seemed to insert words of gibberish, including % and random numbers between paragraphs. On my third page it skipped to page 5. When I went to review the scanned pages and make sure it wasn’t my mistake it then got the pages in the right order but page 3 was so jumbled again I gave up. So there you go, I got an entire two pages into my chapter before giving up completely. I wouldn’t even use this as a free app, let alone pay over $200AUD for it!

Premium Subscription does not work and is not worth the money. The subscription is very expensive and basic functions do not work. Some of the problems I’ve experienced on both the web app and phone app are - the app does not allow me to use the premium voices and increase my reading voice speech - the viewing panel that should be showing the text is blank or seems to be corrupted - the highlighter that is meant to follow the words being read highlights randomly or highlights everything or skips words/paragraphs. - the voice who reads the text skips words and paragraphs and sometime jumps around. - the customer service do not know how to fix any of these problems and are very slow to respond to you. - the subscription cannot be bought on a weekly or monthly basis. It’s annual subscriptions only. Problems specific to the web app: - the viewing panel cannot resize automatically when the window is resized. The viewing panel cannot continue to function normally until you refresh the page - the highlighter does not function at all if the window is resized. Problems specific to the phone app: - it’s barely usable. Speechify sounds like a great idea but it’s still a beta model and needs much improvement to be worth the money.

FINALLY! A Ukrainian Voice!!! Fabulous customer service!. The best thing about speechify is that it’s as powerful as your plans to use it. I used to adore reading books and articles but as someone who is an artist, my eyeballs are occupied on other things. One thing that Speechify is underrated for is its powerful ability to help you learn other languages without sounding robotic (many tts language learning voices are really bad). My story with Speechify involves talking to their customer service about my needs (A Ukrainian voice) and a few suggestions for improving the app. Their customer service was excellent and receptive, they’re real human beings with a desire to improve this app for everyone- they were understanding of why a Ukrainian voice specifically was important (other slavic languages cannot make sounds present in Ukrainian). The Ukrainian voice is melodic just as the language is meant to be spoken, helping me learn how to speak and understand the language better. I got what I wanted! When they reached out to me for a review I promised them I would write one if they gave me a Ukrainian voice. They did and my life is going to get a whole lot easier, the ability to slow things down so my brain can process a language it’s not entirely used to hearing along with the melody and emphasis- very important in this language. Thank you for listening, Speechify. You’re the only natural reader that has what I need and actually listened to me - thank you!

Used to be life changing. This used to be a fantastic app, I bought premium & used it every single day. It reopened the world of reading for me and literally helped change my life for the better. That’s why it’s been so bitterly disappointing to see the app deteriorate with each release. The Mac app is what I use the most, to read almost everything, the audio still functions well, however as of a release numerous weeks ago, - the text no longer accompanies the audio when reading. - When transferring an audiobook from the Mac app to the iPhone app, the book no longer arrives at its destination. - On iPhone, Articles sent to Speechify from other iPhone apps & Safari often no longer make it into speechify. Attempts to contact the creators of speechify have been ignored. Unfortunately the focus seems to be on ‘improving’ the aesthetics of speechify at the expense of functionality and usability. I sincerely hope this changes and they prove me wrong.

Great speech quality but there are some bugs. The quality of the speech is amazing, and the diversity of cloud-based (online) accents is great. However, the range of *downloadable* (offline) voices is much smaller and is limited to European North American and British accents. This is a shame, since these are some of the least compelling voices to listen to during long offline periods, such as when travelling. The one other weak point is the document editing tool, which is essential for texts that have column formats or lots of marginalia and footnotes. The tool interface is great, however it does not reliably save edits. This can be very frustrating for users who spend significant time splitting columns, and cropping margins and footnotes, only to find that an apparently arbitrary number of edits have not saved, and they have to go back and do it again. Overall: Great app, but a couple of major bugs that still need ironing out and shouldn’t be there given the price point.

First time experience. As someone that has been recently diagnosed dyslexia and yet to find out what form , I have always struggled with studying , at school but born in the 80’s it was never picked up . During my work life I always brushed it off as I was so likeable always the like of the office always bluffed my way through my life till 2018 when my life was impacted and I was required to slow my life down . So I have enjoyed it. Hoping my new employment will pay for this service for me

I give up - too buggy. Great concept, but every time I go to use this app there’s something wrong. Sometimes little things, sometimes big things. The support staff are very helpful, which is great because you’re going to spend a while corresponding with them. After paying a rather extraordinary amount of money for the annual subscription, I would expect a much more stable product. Luckily, I chose this for convenience listening in the car rather than as an aid for a reading problem. I might try again in a couple of years when the technology has matured.

Great for ADHD!. I was initially very hesitant because of the upfront cost. I managed to drag out the free trial and get bonus free extra words for doing all the extra tasks (scan a document, upload 3 doc's etc)... But I finally committed and bought the subscription. Honestly, it's very good, very realistic, easy to listen to voices that only sound slightly robotic. As I have ADHD, reading for Uni is always a challenge but it's already helping me so much to stay focused and get through all my reading materials. Before, I use to take 2-3 hours to read one of my academic papers. Now I get through a paper or chapter in about 40-60min, including occassional pauses to jot down notes. I also find my retention is dramatically improved. All-in-all, great app, very user friendly.

Amazing app and awesome customer service. I downloaded the app, everything went ok till when I tried to upload a couple of pdf one did not go well , probably too big or probably WiFi too poor, anyway I contacted them. And that happen the magic, they replied in very short time helpfully, assisting me during the process. The problem was surely not related of the app but probably poor WiFi connection, but they did all they can to help me! Finally all good! I really warm suggest this app and the staff behind it! Never received such amazing customer service before. And the app works really well.

To many issues - don’t waste your money. I want to love this app, as the concept is great. However, I have consistent issues with it. From not loading documents at all (which was an ongoing issue for over a week for all and customer service provided no compensation for the paying subscribers), to restarting itself when I have started listening to a piece of audio - the issues occur almost every single time I use the app. I keep up to date with the relevant updates and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. I gave this app over 6 months of daily use and I’m getting fed up.

Terribly disappointed. I paid the full price for Speechify because I really thought it was going to change my life as I experience a disability which makes reading really difficult. The cost was not an easy thing for me. Unfortunately nothing I scan in uploads properly making it completely useless because everything I need to listen to is hard copy and needs uploading. I spent so long trying to figure out if I was doing something wrong that I now can’t get a refund either. I’m so disappointed with this app and so upset I’ve lost my money.

Helps heaps. My name is Phil and I am a 50+ year old who never got to finish school I found out in my mid forties that I have something called dyslexia and now with the help of this app I can keep up with others in my advanced diploma in disability I can spend a heap more time studying because without using the app I can normally read about three lines on a page before I loss my spot and or concentration I just wish it was cheaper as a person with no education I am restricted to work that doesn’t pay as well as when you have education that is why I am doing the course and this really does help.

Life changer. I’ve struggled with reading my whole life due to eye problems. It’s affected my education and eventually my life choices. I have an upcoming retreat I am going to that I know involves a lot of reading. I was originally going to ask the host to try to come up with an alternative but now I’ll be able to sort the issue myself. This app will give me so much confidence and independence. I’m now thinking I could join in with more study and groups that til now were something I’d have to forgo thank you for making this.

Absolutely Awesome App. I got this app to help me get through my many uni readings and its honestly great, you can slow it down, speed it up, pause at anytime, skip forward or back and change voices, the clarity of the voice is great and once you upload the text it’s there for good. The only down fall is you only have a 3 day trial and after that it can get quite pricey but if you are anyone like me who struggles reading and retaining information this is for you!

Amazed by the growing functionality. I have been using speechify for years and am blow away by recent improvements of fluidity and accessibility. Voices sound more natural bar words with double Ls. Plus It can now read documents and pages it couldn’t in the past, the improvements from before are crazy! It’s come so far and I can’t wait to see how much more streamline it makes my life. Thank you from a dyslexic student soon to be teacher 😊

Wish I found this earlier!. Ironically, I found this app 2 days after I was panicking, having to read 400 pages in 5 days for my real estate course as I had left it last minute. Now that I have found this app I can go through the same notes again to make sure I didn’t miss it by reading over it to quickly ! Highly recommended to those who need to do bulk reading!

This is the app for uni. Through just opening this app it gives you options to what speed you desire to listen at and displays the ability to take into account that not everything is a PDF. How texts come in different text types allowing you to take a photo of it, upload it or even copy and paste it. I haven’t fully been able to explore all of the apps features just yet, but I can tell this is going to be my life saver when it comes to reading those long and overly complicated University books 😊

The product is good but very pricy with significant issues. The app, after purchasing the pricy subscription, is great. Does exactly what it states it helps with. As a student, I find it to be a helpful additional resource. However it is super pricy, the only reason I bought it is that it is within tax cash back range. It also has a significant amendment to the subscription which states the premium voices, you downloaded and purchased the product for, has a limited use even after the significant cost of subscription. So be wary when subscribing.

I like. I just used speechify for the first time to read a page from a book I didn’t understand, and I now understand it, so that definitely means it did it’s job. And yes, there is are audiobooks for a lot of books these days, but they often cost a lot and you can’t adjust the speed very much or have any of the features that speechify gives you, so I would say definitely give this a go.

Amazing app for time management.. Speechify has enabled me to manage my time with my studies. I find it hard to make time to read all of the literature that is given to me, but this app has made it easier to read in down time and actually apply and understand the required knowledge. Definitely the best thing I have across so far in regards to reading.

Better than expected. I took photos of my science text book and speechify read it out to me accurately (I was surprised). You can change the reading speed and voice which is really helpful! You can adjust the speed for note taking or just listening while doing other things! This is really helping I would recommend it

Very helpful resource in order to learn faster. I love this app as it was recommended by my best friend Josh Maze and I love more than anyone else in this entire world. Even more than James Davis I might add and that’s really saying something … well I believe this app will help me in reading articles and absorbing information to complete the remaining of my degree. This will also help as I will use it to build the kingdom of God and it will assist me in going deeper when I’m preaching sermons and sharing revelations on the scripture. As I need the mind of Christ to do the work of Christ …blessing love Ali xoxo

A refund would be great. I bought the subscription for this app because it was so glitchy and kept stopping midway in my pages, so I had to stop what I was doing to go back to my device and play it. When I bought the subscription, the problem was fixed but I would’ve really appreciated a smaller weekly or monthly subscription because I do not anticipate needing it for a year and the price is not justifiable for me. However, I desperately needed it for one week but ended up having to pay for a year’s subscription. Would’ve loved to get at least partial refund from the developers but it seems like there is no way to contact them for it. Overall, would just recommend people to stick with the chrome desktop version. Paying over $100 for this app for a yearly subscription was not justifiable for me when I only needed it for a week.

Truly and awsome design though one thins puts me off. The Price. The price is just to much for me right now. perhaps if i found this earlier in school. but for now i cannot use it. i understand the cost of development and the time jt would take to create each new voice. huge respect for this app and when i was in school it would have been invaluable. i would highly recommend it. only the price bars me

Testing it out. So far so good, was easy to upload my entire text book, and you can easily skip past the credits and boring bits. I’m considering premium but I don’t want to sign up for a whole year so until I can choose a month to month option I’ll stay a free user. Perhaps if I keep enjoying it I might select the annual plan as it’s cheaper over all but I’m not ready for a $200 commitment quite yet.

Thank you so much. Hi! I am a high school student tho I can read when I don’t like a certain topic I tend to doze off and or my attention goes elsewhere, earlier when I was trying to read a book for an assignment I got bored so it was so hard for me to concentrate to the point where I fell asleep after reading a few words I felt so helpless until I thought of a possible app I searched for an app that could translate straight from the book like those audible books I even considered getting a membership if I found the book on their website but thank god I found this app! I will be using it for a while ❤️❤️🥺 ty!

Great alternative to audible!. Does exactly as it should. Easy to use and navigate the platform. Theirs a rage of different voices to choose from and the premium versions allows HD quality voice effect to stimulate your reading journey like a lula bye as you listen to the reader. You also have the option to read without the voice over. I personally alternate between voices and silent mode as this helps retain information for me. Definitely worth a try! It is a GREAT alternative to audible!

Needs a lot of work. I would like this app if it was free, with all the “premium” features included. Without the premium features, the app is basically unusable. I was using it mainly to read imported PDF’s and the playback is extremely buggy, constantly stopping, or sometimes the text loads completely wrong (half the sentences are missing). On the browser version it’s impossible to get it to read the whole document without stopping or glitching. The automatic scroll doesn’t work properly on there either. The “premium” voices are just ok, but this app might be worth it if they spent more time fixing the problems and less time adding Gwyneth Paltrow to the voice library. The setup is also tedious and unskippable (it also freezes when introducing the different voices). Also, the 1-year commitment is too much. I definitely wouldn’t want to sign up for a year after experiencing this buggy mess for 3 days. Do not pay for this app.

This app does not work. I have ADHD and was so excited about this app as a I have gone back to Uni in my 50s and hoped it would help with all the reading I have to do.I Spent about 30mins signing up to free trial then couldn’t get signed back in for some reason, finally got in loaded a PDF I chose Gwyneth’s voice as it sounded the most normal it was ok for a couple of sentences then started rambling in an alien language and then back to English and the text wasn’t making sense either then realised the text hadn’t uploaded correctly sentences were jumbled and letters missing from words, also midway through Gwyneth disappeared and a computerised voice took over spent an hour trying to work out what was going on! I could have read the PDF twice over myself.. for over $200 a year subscription it’s not good. I was so hopeful that it would help me, so disappointed 😔 the struggle continues

A bit clunky to use. I used the app to scan articles in magazines (like The Economist) however the experience wasn’t great. Was a bit tedious scanning the pages (2 pages) and when the commentary started, many very basic words were mispronounced, whilst it was also go on to articulate all components in a graph or chart (i.e. “1%”, “2%”, “footnote” etc). I’m sure I’m a few years the app will be more fluid, but for now it’s more annoying that helpful. I’m sure it’s better for web articles though.

Getting better. I first used Speechify a few years ago. I remember having to wait for a long time for articles to be processed and thinking that it didn’t make sense from a usability perspective as oftentimes you want to listen to something on demand. Not make a cup of tea and come back to it! But having just reignited my interest in TTS I tried it again and it is much improved. Only a one or two secs wait before being able to use. The voices are good but still sound computer generated so I guess there’s still some improvement to be had there but I’ve talk I feel this app is the best in the market for TTS.

Just what I needed. I have a medical condition and take medication that makes my reading very slow, and I often spontaneously fall asleep while reading. By listening, I can read more quickly, comprehend more, and can listen even when closing my eyes. It also takes much less effort. Highlighting the words or lines I’m up to is one of my favourite features of this app, along with speed of listening and word count. However, points of improvement include smoother running in general. Software problems frequently arise, but I am noticing the developer is fixing those quite quickly and improving the app. So overall, it’s helpful enough to me I use it for basically everything I read. Just what I needed. Thanks!

Great but glitchy. The product at its core is amazing. As someone studying law with adhd being able to take photos of text to read reduces time and day dreaming so much. I am much more productive! But honestly, I would have given this app 5 stars if it wasn’t so glitchy for something that costs so much. Considering the cost - the app freezes sometimes and you have to exit a couple of times to be able to read your documents, you can’t send scanned photos to your computer to read, the chrome extension is pretty bad at reading PDFs/generally isn’t as good as the mobile app, sometimes the app closes out so if you have an unsaved document you have to scan again which can be time consuming, sometimes the scanned document will double up text - all minor things as it is the best photo to speech reader I’ve used, but again, considering the high cost of the subscription, I would expect little annoyances to be smoothed out.

I have kinda a bug. Don’t get me wrong I love this app bit this morning when I opened the night previous I scanned all my pages that I needed and this morning when I woke up it’s no longer there. The title is but all of the words are gone. Please help me cause I don’t wanna scan another 60 pages (edit I just Finnished listening after rescanning all pages but it was worth it :) 10/10)

So bad.. Sure, the voices and tech are I’m sure fine, but the mandatory onboarding, draconian sign up process, incessant $200year subscription prompts, and unskippable questions about neurodivergence show these dogs are just building a database of users to sell off when they get acquired. Typical Silicon Valley bs. If you manage to lie through the questions (including an unskipable one asking about dyslexia and adhd), and use apples signup to maintain your privacy - you’re left with the free tier voices which are on par with Microsoft SAM from windows xp. Seriously. The “premium ai / celebrity” voices cannot even be sampled, making me think the unstoppable 70 second demo when first launching the app is pre recorded. Just don’t support this type of predatory app, really disappointing. Also their three picks for celebrity voices (Snoop Dogg, Gwenyth Paltrow and Mr Beast) show their commitment to stoners celebs, snake oil salesman (Goop), and the worst parts about the internet (Mr Beast)

Almost perfect but.....!. Hi this is honest review after use it about one month as daily user. I find my study much easier than ever before but it need some improvement for developer. 1. I would like showing the original preview not just text on the screen. Why, because we have some graph or table and it is useless with this application. 2. Landscape mode. Back to no 1 if can both portrait and landscape mode will be very easy to use. 3. Accept powerpoint file 4. Cloud system. It can be add the file from computer it is much easier to organise instead from mobile we have to work twice. 4. Always error when put file to library and go back to Dropbox the apps shut down suddenly. (Always) Thank you very much for amazing application. This should be everyone have this application especially student, professional or whoever have very strict time to review the reading material for special use. Cheers.

Awesome app!. Speechify has seriously changed the way I consume information. I learn and integrate more information when I’m moving, and this app allows me to devour articles, research papers, documents, books, etc while I’m hiking or commuting. I could not read the volumes I do while listening. Recommend to anyone with an insatiable appetite for receiving knowledge, students, especially those who struggle with reading. Speechify is a game changer and the team are super supportive whenever you have a question on the app. Highly recommend!

Narrators Voice is beautiful. This app is amazing and i’ve only used it for 2 minutes. I write many stories and hearing them be narrated by an old man gives them meaning and encourages me to finish them. There are many different import options, settings where you can change and swap out heaps of different readers and speeds which you can change throughout your listening experience. I really recommend this app.

Love it. I have ADHD and I have struggled with basic English/literature for my entire life. While I am still in high school, reading and writing is still something I struggle with and speechify has helps me so much. It helps me to read books we need to answer questions for in class and long task sheets. The only issue I have had for the last couple of days is the amount of times the thing was paused because of an ad. While I can respect it advertising it’s self 3-4 times during a listening, playing 1 after the other during what’s meant to be a 1 hour reading is so annoying. I sat there for 3 minutes and got interrupted twice. Again I’m not too mad I mean the app is still amazing, it would just be nice if there were greater breaks between these ads so I can focus on the story/ information without me having to get up from my bed and press play again. Yes I’m aware I’m lazy XD

Almost… but not good enough YET. Maybe it depends on what you’re listening to, but the tech is close, but not there yet. It’s like wanting a PS5 but getting a Sega Megadrive. It could probably handle reading straight text without citations, statistics or tables, but if you want to read scientific papers or lab reports then you’re out of luck. The tech means it just reads straight through - so that’s footers, appendices, and even a doi. Within a year or so, I have no doubt that the technology will be able to cover this, just not now, and certainly not for the mountain of cash they want for it. So close… but no cigar.

Review for speechify using free version.. The book I loaded to be read has a few glitches in the spelling. I am not sure if that was during the conversion so it could be read. I am also working with a free version before I choose to buy. The stop start does get a little frustrating but I understand why as I am encouraged to buy. Being dyslexic and having ADHD I can see how this would very much help me in many ways. Staying focused on the book or what is being spoken and being able to visually see and read in my mind at the same time is super as it compounds the information going in. So far I am well impressed. Great work. Great app

Game changer for me - maybe. I’ve only just found it and given it a short try using photos of printed pages from a new course I started last week and I am very excited. I hope this will be a game changer for me. Regarding the app, there were occasional pronunciation errors or times when I needed to hear something again. I found that I could just tap the screen a few words or lines back and it would begin reading from there again. The intonation is very good and the speech is only slightly stilted. It is certainly smooth enough for me to be happy to listen to it for learning purposes. Maybe not for pleasure. EDIT: The next morning when I tried to use the app for study, a screen popped up after a while saying it has a limit of 500 words per day with the HD speech. It says HD speech costs them a lot. I can appreciate that bit but I’m not quite sure what happens then. I’ve also seen there is a subscription that they say are not taking money for at the moment. I’m a bit confused about that too. While it’s great when it’s working, after a couple of hours of fiddling I am actually getting quite frustrated. There is also speechify on google chrome but it stopped part way through sentences and I can’t make it read from word documents. I have contacted the developer and wait to get answers. It definitely shows promise.

Life saver. English is not my first language. I have a hard time reading so many materials in English. I couldn’t focus and do more than an hour. With Speechify I’m like listening with subtitles and easily a few hours passes. Such a life saver. My only suggestion is to adjust the pauses after periods and commas. I feel like the pause after a comma is even longer than a full stop which does not sound very natural to me.

Incredible! But…. This app is absolutely incredible! Easily the best application for reading PDFs or any other written work. So far my only big complaint is with the 5000 word per day limit on the HD voices. The HD voices are incredible but the standard voice in speechify is super jarring to listen to and not pleasant at all. I find that when I reach my 5000 word limit each day I will stop using the application all together and go back to using the inbuilt screen reader in my iPhone. Despite the dip in features Siri has a much more pleasant voice to listen then the standard voice in speechify. Please lift the limit on HD voices or at leased make them purchasable! This would become my most important app if you could!

Love it!. I’m an exhausted mum of three of kids with high medical needs and found that I couldn’t get through the reading I needed to for my uni degree. After discovering that I learn better by listening to tutorials anyway, I tried a lot of the free “natural read” type apps and the robotic voice put me to sleep. This app is expensive but wonderful. I justify the cost as I can enjoy my uni degree without the stress of having to “read so many pages” under conditions where I’m always interrupted or doing multiple things at once. I listened to the creators story and how he invented this app and it’s so similar to my sons story (adhd and dyslexia) I hope he can make use of this app too with his studies. Not great. I got this app from positive reviews on social media. Looked great it’s free but the voice is hard to understand and gets all the words wrong it’s so much faster to read without the app in my head. Don’t recommend.

Works 75% of the time. Struggles with scanned pages and article that have page breaks- often reads full urls out loud and doesn’t have a copy and paste function

Speechify. Bull”tweet” I’m trying to use this app but I am getting a run around and too many prices with different free&expensive option I couldn’t try it out.

Charged the Highest Subscription. I wanted to try the 3 day free trial. I forgot to cancel - and right away got charged over 200 dollars. That’s insane. For a monthly or yearly subscription. And instead of having the lowest option linked - they charged me over 200 dollars. Haven’t used it since. I couldn’t even submit review before finding an unused nickname.

You are too greedy.. You are too greedy for an app that is way overpriced and by the way your customer service is pretty bad.

Misleading and unethical money grab. Mainly got this because it claims to work with Kindle, it can only read a couple of paragraphs at a time and then you need to go back in, in pause it, reselect another section and it starts up again. Useless and impossible to get into any flow with. The really annoying thing is that it is overpriced and forces you to add your credit card and claims you can turn off renew subscription before the end of the 3 day trial. You actually can’t, I canceled subscription and it still forces me to pay for the for the year. Disgraceful, should be removed from App Store.

Well... So I get that things cost money to develop. It takes more time and effort than many people understand. But charging 189$ for a app a year is ridiculous. Not having a option for Month to month is just as silly. I feel if this app charges less people would be more inclined to purchase this app and just by mass this app would generate more money. I would have purchased it if it was 50$ a year and I bet many other people would do the same. But I won’t pay near 200 for this. So sale lost and I bet many other people would be in the same boat.

Omg thank you Cliff this awesome. Omg thank you Cliff this is awesome. Make reading easy and fun . Really appreciate this app, and it free too. I use it to read my text book. Thank you

Clickbait freemium garbage. The app would be great and encouraging for struggling readers if Speechify was transparent about their freemium model from the beginning of the app’s experience. I scanned an entire book and a few paragraphs into reading it at 1.6x speed, it slowed to a snails pace and went to some robotic voice. What a crock. Really takes the wind out of your sails to find that it’s 180$ a year when this is supposed to be a tool to help struggling readers. What a shame. This app has the potential to change lives through the way you read but has essentially made itself inaccessible, or at least completely useless, to a large portion of the population who might use it. Shameful.

Awful App. I tried using this app, I was so excited about it, but it came out as gobble gook, couldn’t understand anything it was reading to me 🤬

The worst!. It’s the worst if you are taking pictures of the text!!!! It copies it out of order!!! So annoying when your trying to study.

140$? Like really??😂💸💸. 140$? Like really??😂💸💸 140$ for a computer voice and a glitchy app. It keeps cutting off on me. Not sure who you paid for those 5 star reviews.. maybe if you gave me 140$ a year I’d consider increasing the star rating, and since we’re talkin big numbers how about 1400$ a year? Or 14,000$?

👍🏼. Excellent app

Didn't translate words properly from pics and is basically useless. Didn't translate words properly from pics and is basically useless

Best App I have downloaded. This app has been so useful to me. I use it to read books to me for school that I can't keep up with or the ones that just put me to sleep! This is literally life changing for me! Thank you and I would recommend downloading.

Adds. To many premium adds if I want to stick to the free version stop interrupting my reading a or I’m gonna find another app.

Subscription price. I love using your app as I’m a student and I need such an application but the subscription is very too expensive for me . Is there any promo for students?

I’m Chinese helped me so much. So my Canadian friends thought that might borrow English is good, but I can never read as fast as a local speaker which I think limited me study and career. I really really thankful to Speechify who help me a lot and can keep my readings pace consistent and faster!

I prefer Capti. If you found this too expensive consider Capti.

money grap. Trial period is a joke! Reads 200 words and stopped. For the money they asked, need to see more of the software.

My world changed today. I cannot begin to write the depth that Cliff’s story and mission reverberates with my notion of what a meaningful piece of software both in intent and execution can do. I will edit this further with specifics. Pankaj Chand, MD

Unreal, best experience so far. This Text-to-Speech software is worth your time. Try it free, on different platforms. I am currently using the "Narrator" (beta) voice and starting at 160 WPM speed for better retention. My school notes now have the same vibe as a BBC documentary and it's a vibe. The price for premium is steep for one year but honestly time is money and the amount of time you'll save once you train yourself to use this program efficiently outways the price. I am currently restructuring my school notes formatting so that it can be read smoothly with this app. I think that I have it figured out and the time learning to work with this program already seems worth it. Check it out.

So happy with it. It could convert from pictures . I am so satisfied with it. Thank you sooooooo much

Not worth $200 a year.. I would consider this app it you could renew monthly for $10 or under but laughed at the yearly price. Most of the voices still sound digital but I did find a couple enhance AI voices that I enjoyed. Didn’t get a chance to experience the app with kindle but I tried to use my city library app that it was completely incompatible with. Struggled with getting the text copied from screenshots, which did work, but not well enough. It definitely would not be possible if I wanted to listen to a longer book. Guess I’ll be sticking with my Audible account. 🤣

Speechify. I’m dyslexic and this is help me very much throughout school and just in general it is not only help me and improved my reading but I also recommended it to my family members and that is very well speak if I had also taught me words I didn’t know that honestly existed so thank you speechify for helping me😊

Awful money grab. Can’t even really try it, word limit for the three day trial. Way too expensive.

Not worth the price. The concept of this application is great if only it worked properly. So many bugs. Commonly the screen going white and all the words disappearing while it continues to read or goes blank while editing and all your edits get lost. The phone app and destop app dont seem to crossover unless you delete your app from your phone and re-download it. It is a process though since they make you go through the entire welcome tutorial before giving you a chance to sign in. I think this app might work better for pleasure use or soley reading directly from the internet (however finding online university sites with modules are not compatible). Customer service has been fine, not much for the servicers can do with a buggy app! I would not reccomend this app if you are planning on scanning textbooks in and using for school as more frustration than its worth. Continuing to use only because I already paid the $200. *working on 2021 macbook air and iphone11, all software up to date.

Worst ai app ever. false advertisement and god awful ai

Awful long to setup and use!!. Need to listen for minutes to get to use it

Paid for. Not interested in anything I have to pay for. Subscriptions are a blight on society.

Extremely glitchy. It doesn’t work right most of the time. Sometimes will completely skip dates and numbers. Sometimes it doesn’t work at all.

I'm premium account why word limit !!!!. I have premium account but word limit 450.000k right now I can used premium voice why I pay 350$? No body don't help anything 48 hr no support this app garbage!!!!

lagging none stop, word limit. even after buying the highest paid account there is still a word limit, not worth a penny, none lagging and vioce glitches, worst reading app to date

This Is A Total Game Changer!!!🙏🙏🙏. This is really good, like really really good. I’ll be able to get through a text book a week if not a day! With this app. It’s just so breath taking. When I watched the creators YouTube videos about the app it seemed too good to be true and I thought it was a scam, but low and behold it’s a freaking gold mine! A major arbitrage opportunity! This has just become my new secret weapon, straight A’s here I come.

Great for busy mom. As a mom of 4 I never have time to read or study. This app allows me to upload my content and press play. I can fold laundry, cook dinner ext. It is a little pricey but worth it.

3 day trial then - boom. You get a 3 day trial then, it’s $184.99/year. Who is going to pay that?

They tricked me.. They force a tutorial at the start that you cannot skip just to quickly test out the app. After 4 minutes of forced customization they FORCE you to BUY the app BEFORE even letting you test it. But don’t worry you get a 3 day trial and if you forget you’ll be charged $120. F this app. Don’t mislead people.

15 something a month. Not worth downloading. Monthly subscription or almost 200$ a year or 15$ a month instead of purchasing the app. Ridiculous! I do not purchase subscriptions I buy apps I like. I could buy a program for the computer that would be a lot cheaper & upload it to my google drive & use it on my phone. Rip off!

Actually wastes time. This app is SO GLITCHY that it actally wastes more time than reading. COMPLETE WASTE of $200!!!!

Unbelievably overpriced. $40/month, $180/year.

??. Blud asked for a review on the appetite before I even tried the app💀 the introduction was so long as well, too long and annoying af this app is bad

Great improvement. This has made me work faster get more done

Too buggy to be usable. DO NOT BUY! SCAM!!!. The first epub I imported was a complete fail. For some reason the app left out the first letter in every paragraph. Useless.

It’s super scummy to claim there is a free tier to the app then try to sell users on an over a thousand dollar lifetime licence, before the user has ever tried the software, by a startup that may not exist in another year. If it was worth the price the developers would not need to manipulate users into such purchase before trying the software. I suspect the positive reviews for tis app are fake. Apple should investigate.

On boarding. The on boarding on the iPhone app is good. As long as you don’t already have an account. I already had an account and just wanted to login and it made me do a bunch of stuff that wasted my time.

This app is basically (indirectly) giving me a job.. I’m a college student and I need to read a lot of things for research and other assignments. Without this app I wouldn’t be able to finish any of my assignments, there are other apps similar to this one but this one is DEFINITELY the best one! I would not be passing school if it weren’t for this app. It’s also a handy tool for getting through long boring emails or readings. If anyone is wondering if they should get this app the answer is yes!

Not good not bad. This app is on such a roll with where it’s going, but it needs a lot of work. I thought I was all set with my chrome extension but the app just seems to really lag and struggle too many times. One thing that is a major issue is that with online school there are a lot of powerpoints with information. If you open the PowerPoint online, it will not read it. Highlighting the text also does not work. This will likely be the reason I do not stick with this application as it can’t truly read everything on a web page. I have put way too much effort into trying to get it to work when it’s supposed to help save time and be efficient. I look forward to where this technology goes but for now it’s just not really that helpful.

Annoying. I have dyslexia (I had to use the text to speech for that) and my dad used this to help me read my work and I used it today so I can read “a good girls guide to murder” and it was the worst it would read the page number and it blurred an entire sentence and the chapters aren’t labeled so when you finish a chapter in this book the top says four or five so when I got to chapter four it read that and it was reading the highlighted names and the voice was the worst part it is a obnoxious and hard to hear for more then a minute the app sucks and it hurts my brain and it would ask me to rate a lot I would be listening and then it would stop midd sentence and want me to rate it. The highlighting is broken to and it brightens the picture so much it looks worse then my science work I could rant for hours but I’m to lazy.

Disappointing. I tried the free version of this app based on all the positive reviews, but was incredibly underwhelmed. I tried to import from the "Books" app by sharing the file as instructions suggest to no avail, and eventually resorted to copy/pasting individual pages until suddenly it told me I'd reached my 200wd limit for the day??? They definitely just want you to buy the full version and it's not intended as a truly accessible resource. I'll keep searching.

They charged me twice. They charged me twice on credit card. When I asked money back they gave back one payment. But my subscription is not working. I tried to contact them so many times. No answer and I paid again as I have no access to them. When I mentioned to them they charged me twice but returned one payment and subscription stopped working. And I tried to approach them etc. But they are not returning my money back. Ow I had paid over $400.

Just got it and love it already!!. I don't know why this app isn't first in the search results.. It does exactly what I was hoping for! I rarely leave reviews, let alone leave one within minutes of getting an app, but this is a special case. Thank you so much Cliff, you the real MVP!!

This is the help I needed. I am not a fast reader by any means and my reading comprehension is terrible. But, I work full time and I’m taking college classes, this time I had messed up and unknowing signed up for 2 reading heavy classes. One Sunday I spent 13 hours straight reading for one class. I am very eager to learn and do well in class and this app makes it possible for me to get my work done in a reasonable time and have time to spend with my husband. A few downfalls are the price $140, would be better if it could be paid monthly instead of upfront. And, the program still needs some work, it reads the small text at the bottom of each page that says “you can get this textbook for free at(insert URL)” and it reads the page number and chapter title and breaks concentration when listening. If you pay attention you can skip that by pressing the next text you want it to read but it’s tricky. And there is no skipping the price, because I work full time I can afford it (not comfortably) but I imagine other college students have trouble.

Best text to audio app ever!!!!!!. Being someone with a learning disability within auditory processing problem. I have found this 3 day trial app to be a gem! I can listen and read my kindle books better then audible ever could! I can also read endless articles that I have converted into pdf files! I can even type a text and have Speechify read it back to me before I send along with having school papers read back to me. A excellent about of quality voices! The British voices are my favorite, although I wish they had more celebrity voices like Anthony Hopkins and Morgan Freeman! Definitely will be getting the 1 years subscription its definitely worth every penny!!!!!! *ONLY PROBLEM*: If I want to quickly turn pages to find something the app seems to want to read everything automatically out loud. It would be great to turn off automatic reading mode or a way to double tap the pause button so the app doesn't continuously read everything if I want to quickly turn several pages!

Primitive but helpful. I have a learning disability, so I needed to find something that could help me with my university coursework. This app reads it for the most part but there are a bunch of glitches. If the page isn’t PERFECTLY flat, the letters may appear too distorted for the program to work and it starts basically speaking in tongues. And you can’t just go back and retake the phot once it’s been uploaded and converted to audio. I load 100-page chapters into this at a time, and if I want to fix a singular mistake, I just have to re-photograph the entire chapter. Another thing, when adjusting the size/format of the space that you want to be read, either the corner resizing works or the sides/top/bottom resizing works, never both. I paid quite a bit of money for this app to not work that well, but I have an iPhone and this is basically my only choice. I shouldn’t complain, because I need all the help I can get, but I also want to bring the issues up to the developers so they can make it better. The premise of this app is awesome, it helps a lot.

Like the thought process improvements needed. I like that this app can read PDF documents to you, especially when you have hard material to read such as a boring book with a lot of terms. I could not give 5 stars because there are improvements needed. I purchased the app and paid a year in advance not knowing there was a limit on how many words you can hear in a premium voice you like. I really feel there shouldn’t be a limit. I also dislike that the app stops reading to me whenever there is a bullet point or list using a different symbol such as square bullet point. I’m assuming the app reads that as stop so it’s impossible for me to listen to certain books while I’m sleeping because it constantly stopping. I also notice if I use the app on my phone vs my computer it is not as efficient or effective. I was extremely disappointed because I wanted to hear the text while I’m driving. I have to constantly look at my iPhone if I want it to keep playing vs audible will keep reading with Lock Screen. I only gave 2 stars because the actual mobile app is not efficient whatsoever and you better off using it on a laptop or pc

Definitely worth it! Save time!. The program is definitely worth it’s price in Gold! It has saved me a ton of time reading the required material for work. You can adjust the reading speed (typically run it between 1.3-1.5 times). I have only experienced two issues since purchasing the application. First issue, occasionally the application voice will change to a computerized voice when the application/cell phone does not get the best signal. Second issue, the app had issues uploading the some material. I’ve uploaded about 20 items over the course of the past two weeks. Only twice did I experience an issue uploading material. One of the files was very large but one was very small. I deleted all the archived material and attempted to upload again. I’m still experiencing issues with the smaller reading source. Overall, it has saved me a ton of time and helps me comprehend the material a lot faster! I would highly recommend it for anyone that must read a lot for work (policies, reports, etc). Well worth it!

Versatile and so helpful. Although I’m highly educated, I struggle to read long and technical documents such as textbooks, insurance forms, contracts. Even reading for leisure can get tiring sometimes. Using Speechify helps me easily digest text while reducing the mental and visual strain, and freeze me to multitask while taking on the information. Although the tool is costly in terms of apps/subscriptions, it’s far cheaper and more technologically advanced than most traditional tools for helping those with reading challenges (visual impairments, dyslexia, illiteracy, physical impairment, etc). Speechify can be used in so many ways, from reading the text found in pictures of documents, reading a website, reading PDFs, and many more. This means that more documents can be made accessible without the specialized interventions to and put them in to text to speech software. I use speechify for myself, I use it with patients that need assistance with reading, and I also recommend it to friends and family Who like audio versions of books and other reading materials.

Has potential - but bugs are holding it back. I hope a product manager or other leader sees this. I’m your ideal user and this app has a ton of potential but I am struggling with bugs and inconsistent behavior of the experience week to week as you (or safari) makes updates. The experience both in browser and in app is fairly inconsistent. Keep in mind you are competing with me just highlighting text and tapping “speak” which is almost as good as your experience. I have seen inconsistencies when tapping play in browser. Sometimes it reads the whole page, sometimes i have to tap each new paragraph to start it again. Recently it has not been speaking out loud when i don’t have headphones in. Additionally a lot of websites don’t work when articles are ported over to your app, and the pauses after commas and periods are way too long and don’t recognize simple common phrases like U.S. causing it to pause for a long time between “U” and “S” this behavior is also inconsistent when makes it hard to get used to one experience. It’s almost as important to have a consistent experience than a good one. Make sure you’re maintaining quality week to week

Awesome Concept. But OUCH!. I briefly tried this app some time ago, but it needed some fine-tuning in the manner it read some words, punctuation, and numbers so I gave it a break and muscled through my class at the time. Because life, I can only afford to be a part-time student, so I’m working and I’m still in school trying to better myself and my family. However the memberships they offer are SO EXPENSIVE! The cheapest one is $140/year! I am not above paying for a service, but I just don’t have the ability to make this kind of purchase. It would seem that the target audience are full-time students who have someone to support them, or people who are already successful and only want to add more reading time to their routine. If they could just make this more affordable, they would be able to reach far more people who desperately need this technology. I love the idea and potential of this plan and how the creator used his story as inspiration to help other people, but I really wish they could come up with a business plan (maybe through sponsors?) to add a type of membership that is more accessible for those of us who don’t have an extra couple hundred bucks that aren’t strictly allocated to the most basic necessities. Definitely disappointing.

Amazing. My son is autistic with an ADHD dx on top of that. Additionally, I’ve had multiple bouts of optic neuritis that have left me with blurry and/or double vision at times, but not enough to move to a full-on screen reader setup. We can both benefit from this program. Getting him to read his assignments is always a challenge, and audio versions of his assigned readings aren’t always easy to get, even when they’re available. I’m an adjunct professor in addition to my day job and often have papers that I’ve on my phone (large text, of course) while sitting at swim practice, waiting to pick kids up after school, etc., to make use of that time. When I tested Speechify out, there was only one minuscule error in the OCR of 4 pages from a book assigned in my son’s dual-credit HS/college US history class. An error I probably wouldn’t have even noticed if I hadn’t been following the text checking against it. The naturalness of computer voice, its cadence, etc. is slightly above average for this type of program. The next test, of course, is whether he’ll use it. Regardless of whether he uses it, I definitely will.

Couldn’t live without it. I am a full time online college student and have my two children, one of which is an infant, so I don’t have time to sit down and read for hours bc I’m always cooking cleaning or feeding children. Speechify let’s me listen to all my hours of reading for school while I’m taking care of my kids and running errands. I haven’t missed one reading for school which makes me so happy I’m able to take care of my family and still do good in school. I can’t say enough good about it really. I wish there were more HD words bc I listen a lot and they can run out-however even the non HD voices have some that are really good. I usually listen to the male American nom HD voice when I run out and his voice sounds pretty non robotish so it works great. The customer service has also been good when I’ve had an issue with anything. They always get back to me in messaging pretty quick and offer solutions. Good product over all!!!

Great Idea but still needs work. I was really happy to see this app and I really liked the idea of it. But after having purchased and trying to use it, it does not really work as perfectly as they say it would work. For e.g when i take a textbook picture or PDF file and try make the speechify read it when speechify process it speechify would scramble the text making the first paragraph last and the last paragraph first and mix up everything missing original orders of the text. And also sometime it miss the word in between. So listening to that does not make sense to me. I waste time to scan it carefully adding to speechify but then the speechify mess up the order and read it to me up side down which does not make sense to me. How do you fix that?? For this reason i feel it was waste of the money for me no matter how much I like the idea! If the developers can fix this problem it would be great or pls refund my money at least!

I wish I could afford it!. Beautify presented application. I wish that I could afford it. I’m single, live alone and am pushing 60. I survive on disability. I used to read a novel a week prior to my Second TBI. After it, I got about 1 a month accomplished. Following my third I’ve read one book in 15 years. I miss reading and the escape it yielded. Lately I find myself attached to the television, something I’d prefer to avoid. I’ve also acquired bone on bone knees which require replacement. I used to be an “extreme” athlete but my knees have hobbled me. I’ve lost the use of my right hand because of heterotopic ossification around my elbow after the same accident that I suffered my latest coma in. It impinges on a nerve and keeps my right hand from functioning completely. It recurs after removal. I used to be a very accomplished pianist and artist. All of my escapes are gone now. I’m left sitting in front of a television which really depresses me. The one thing I’d hoped remained to take me away was reading. Unfortunately aside from the compressed sort found on the web I’m left wanting. I wish that I could afford your application, it looks wonderful.

DO NOT BUY BEFORE READING TERMS. Left a previous review, but I can’t find it so rewriting it here, DO NOT BUY, unless you are aware of 150k word limit they may let you get to 450k words but they will cut you off that’s barley two books for me. I usually go through 1-2 books a week much less a month. I spoke with a support rep who was very nice but essentially told me I should have read the terms and that there was as nothing she could do because speechify was not letting me listen except though extremely bad voices that sound like the computer voice from some movie set in the 90’s I went looking for alternatives most are real bad but I found that you can find good voices for spoken content on the iPhone if you use the different Siri voices(and it’s free) also I’ve heard Alexa is good as well but I didn’t try it. I’ve already paid for the year so I’ll still use speechify but most likely won’t renew unless changes are made. If you’ve made it this far into to my review your probably work for speechify, please stop hiding your word limit in the terms no one will read and put them on the page where you subscribe, I probably would have still subscribed but at least I wouldn’t have been blindsided

Dyslexic Graduate Student. I can’t even begin to thank the creators of this app enough. After 4 challenging years of undergrad and an excruciating first semester of grad school pursuing a history degree, this app has literally changed my life. I wish I had heard about it sooner! My whole degree is basically reading non-stop and this app has given me so much time back by allowing me to follow along at a quicker pace and not get bogged down. The open dyslexic font and color changing abilities on the app are also super helpful if I don’t have the text right in front of me (and sometimes when I do lol). The app isn’t perfect, especially if you’re downloading PDFs that have stupid credits at the bottom of every page (to no fault of the creators the app is just reading what’s on the page), however it is 100% worth just keeping it open to skip those sections and continue at a much faster pace than I could ever read on my own. I am truly so grateful and will be recommending this app to everyone in my program and anyone I know who struggles with reading as much as I do. If you’re debating downloading- I would say just do it for sure!

Trial scam and contract of adhesion. This app said it had a three day trial. Buried in 44 pages of the boiler plate agreement, to begin the trial period, on page 8 it said that in order to get out of the three-day trial, the user had to notify Speechify 24 hours before the three-day period ended. I don’t know how many people read 44 pages of an agreement before they download an app. Watch out for scams like this! I couldn’t get Speechify to work on my Apple products and thought that I did everything I needed to do to drop the trial. I disputed the charge of $139 that Apple Card billed me for a year’s worth of Speechify, which I did not want because it did not work. Goldman Sachs, who issued the Apple Card, told me that I have lost the dispute because of the detail on page 8. Today I paid off the $139 that Apple and Speechify cheated me out of and canceled my Goldman Sachs Apple Card because of the lousy treatment and unfair business practices of both Apple Card and Goldman Sachs. I doubt this contract of adhesion would be upheld by a court but I’m not going to go to court for $139. However, I would be willing to join a class action suit against the parties. It is ironic and unfair that a person who may need Speechify because they can’t see would be held to a point on page 8 of a 44-page document.

Unhelpful for those of us with an older phone or who can’t afford their premium plan. This app saved my grades. The only thing I didn’t like what that with the FREE version, the AI voice would frequent mispronounce words and skip pages or reorder paragraphs. But this was something I could overlook for the most part and I just kinda dealt with it. The reason this review is 1 star is because recently, when it comes to scanning pages, speechify has stopped supporting any Apple devices that are older than the iPhone 11 or iPad 7th gen. This makes it twice as long and complicated to listen to any of my reading assignments because I have to copy and paste the text from each page into the app instead of just taking a picture of the page. This defeats the purpose of using this app for me. I am currently trying to find another app that works but I will not be going back to speechify because of this. They don’t seem to put any effort into the listening experience of people who cannot afford a newer phone or who cannot afford the premium plan; broke students like myself, which is probably a large portion of their users.

Problem w/ Safari Extension?. Whenever I try to save an article to Speechify using the Safari extension, a prompt pops up that says, “Create an account or sign in to save websites to your Speechify Library • Sign up or sign in • I’ll do it later” I already have a Speechify account, so I select the option to sign in — but when I do, the Speechify app opens up and shows that I’m already signed in. The app doesn’t seem to be communicating my login status with the Safari extension. I don’t know if I need to be a Premium subscriber to use the Safari extension feature? If so, I feel like that should be outlined a little more clearly, as I’m a little wary of committing to a paid subscription if the Safari extension doesn’t work. Here too, if the extension is a premium feature, I feel as though I should still be able to log in & save articles to my Speechify Library via the Safari extension as a free user (I’m not talking about a free trial user). I’m totally okay with not being able to listen to those articles until I’m prepared to subscribe, but getting a head start on building my library would definitely get me more excited about enrolling in the premium membership.

Surprise! Subscription required for back to school.. Great App, My dyslexic daughter used to rely on this app to get her through her heavy text reading for school. Since the free version has been taken away, she no longer has this option. We’re a single income homeschooling family and we’re being subscriptioned to death by educational apps. We already pay 100% of the cost for all educational expenses because the public system doesn’t serve our children’s needs. $11 dollars/mo doesn’t sound like much, but when you multiply it across several apps, it adds up fast. I DO understand that the developers need funds to support their product, but if their target market cannot sustain expensive subscriptions, they’ll find another way to meet their needs. This is the second dyslexia accommodation we’ve lost due to cost. We would seriously consider a one-time fee or be content with a free, limited version of an app, but recurring monthly subscriptions do not fit the budget (that includes Netflix & etc). Please bring the free version back. We were fine with the limitations; we can’t afford these premiums.

Reading was a terrifying experience.. I can only imagine how successful I would have been if I had this app I am 50+ years old and I needed every accommodation possible to get through high school college and graduate school cassette tapes, Reader, scribe extended time on exams I had to force people to give me a oral exam if I heard it I knew the answer to the question but reading it I had no idea what it said ! everything this app could’ve changed my life and what I could’ve done with my life because reading was always a terrifying experience. Thank you Cliff I hope everybody can use this that needs it !!!! Cliff I had a great parent as well that would sit next to my bed and read my grandparents would read textbooks to me my mother secretary read textbooks to me I was just very blessed that I had people to help me and support me this app is almost making me cry because it could’ve literally changed my life it made life so much more pleasurable and explore all the books I’ve never read or audiobooks that didn’t exist thank you very much for expressing this and creating this app thank you

LOVE the concept!. As someone with dyslexia, and I’m pretty sure ADD, I absolutely love the concept of this app! I especially appreciate how the words are highlighted as the material is read. The only issue that I faced and why I am not going to continue my subscription at this time is that the app’s ability to read PDFs is not the greatest. When I imported a PDF of a textbook, the page headers and footers and figures become embedded in the middle of the actual text, making it frustrating to read. Also, the pdf conversion technology does not preserve mathematical symbols and hence cannot read them, which makes reading all of my engineering material via this app nearly impossible. A future consideration could be to integrate the app with tools such as Notability, so that users can take notes on the document while listening AND have the document structure preserved. Thank you for creating this app Cliff! I will continue to monitor the improvements on this app and hopefully be back as a subscriber soon :)

Good Experience, Impressive Features, but I won’t purchase it. I hope to give a fair assessment of this app. Having completed the three-day trial of their premium version, I can say that converting web pages, PDFs, Kindle books, Word files, and using Google Drive files for text-to-speech are a remarkable and compelling reasons to have it. Speechify has an array of voices available, including some celebrity voices. The voice cloning technology was also really impressive to me. Despite this, I won’t be getting the premium version. Speechify definitely would have been added to my handful of subscriptions with the exception of an exorbitant cost for premium. Their pricing structure was unclear to me, and seemed like a one-size choice, in my view, which is not ideal for individuals want to utilize some of the advanced features without making a huge financial commitment or 12 month time commitment. The price is just too high, so unfortunately it’s not worth it for me. If the price moved below triple digits, I would reconsider because it was a great “user experience” - really!

Updated: Needs more membership options (previous title: Amazing!!). Update: For some reason now I can no longer listen to any words past 1.1x speed or I get an ad for the premium subscription. It doesn't say anywhere that I hit my word limit, and in fact is telling me to listen to 500 more words to get the next reward. I tried to contact support for this issue, but apparently you only get support if you pay the premium. Additionally, the premium is SUPER expensive for the service. I understand that they're used to pay for premium voices, but there really needs to be a membership tier. As someone who simply wants unlimited words and is fine with a robotic voice, I would love to see a simpler membership at at least half the price. Lastly, only offering a yearly payments option is not great. I can't afford it all at once and I'm sure I'm not unique in that. Anyways, I'd ultimately like to see another option for membership that is cheaper even if more restrictive. ********previous review************ This app has helped me so much! I love to read but really struggle with longer books and smaller texts. This makes for a great reading companion!

I want to love this app so badly…. I purchased the premium version of this app almost a year ago, and when it works, it’s amazing. That said, I have lost precious time (and uploaded material/annotations) due to the bugs I kept running into. The customer service was amazing and tried to help. They refunded my subscription and gave me a year for free in hopes I would continue to use the app. I didn’t touch it for the longest time because I couldn’t afford to waste more hours redoing work. That said, I recently tried to come back to it, as I have two digital pdf textbooks this term. It worked for about a day on one article and one book. I got my hopes up and now it isn’t working anymore. I thought maybe during the span of time that I took a break from Speechify some of these basic bugs would have been ironed out, so I could use it again. I think the mission/purpose is amazing, and wish I could recommend it to my other neurodivergent friends. Maybe it’ll be ready in another year? Thank you to the team who is working so hard on this project. I can imagine it is more complex than I can comprehend!

I never write reviews. Cliff! You are amazing and this is a fantastic app! Great design! I laughed at the story about circle time reading but I would , not kidding , do the same thing! And popcorn reading in high school, I couldn’t even add up the hours I’ve spent in school bathrooms. I too learned that have add and dyslexia at about 12 years old? I’m 33 now, so NO ONE knew what it was or anything about it, no no it was when the thought you “reverse your letters “ or something. Anyway, it’s so applied your self so well in school!! I did the opposite and honed other skills , like getting people to write my papers for me while planned extra curricular high school “activity's” , no College but did go one to building and selling 2 businesses buy the age of 31 and now I AM going to get my degree! A fantastic art university, so I am using this for my text books. Thank you for making this!! Good luck with you book, undoubtedly it will be a success! If I can help in anyway please let me know!! (I’m not on Facebook, but am on Instagram) - katie

I like it. There are some minor mistakes that are made when reading. Speechify will always read “live” as a noun and never as a verb. It can properly read “there is a live concert happening tonight,” but it cannot read “actually live this truth out in your life.” Another problem is when you use the (-) sign between numbers. I quote bible verses a lot in my writing, so when I am reviewing my work I listen to speechify. Whenever the program reaches a bible verse, it will read (-) as “inches”. For example, (verses 1-3) will be read as “verses 1 inches 3” instead of “verses 1 through 3”. This means the program also can’t read a sentence such as “grades 1-5 will be meeting in the lunchroom tomorrow.” I don’t know how these problems can be fixed, but I’m sure there’s a way to help the program distinguish these differences in the text better. Otherwise the app is great! Very easy to use once you figure out the lay out and what you can do with it. If these minor problems don’t bother you, I would recommend this app to anyone.

A dream until you desperately need it for school. I first came across this app a couple of years ago, as someone that is easily distracted (possibly adult ADHD) and extremely busy, I absolutely love multitasking while playing something educational out loud. The thought of getting my reading in while I did chores around the house, was an absolute dream! This app is absolutely wonderful when reading short articles or snippets here and there. However, I have online classes coming up soon and have been copying and pasting my reading material into the app in an effort of getting my studying done as efficiently as possible. I upgraded and paid for the very expensive pro version and I’m unbelievably disappointed. Although it is absolutely awesome to have Gwyneth read my material for me, it is awful when it comes to loading Files, folders, and the actual reading material. The app is constantly crashing and buffering and randomly “loses” my folders I have so carefully curated. It’s a headache but I’m so dependent on it now as this is the ONLY way for me to keep up with my studying. Please fix it!! I’d rather have my material read to me by a “nobody” than have to deal with the daily bugs and crashing! As of now, I do NOT plan to renew.

Unusable After the Free “HD” Diamonds Without Premium. When I first downloaded I wasn’t aware that I had some free HD diamonds or words that allowed me to use some of the premium features. For almost 2 months I used the free voice but I was able to listen at a higher speed and never received any pop ups to upgrade to premium. Then I noticed the free HD words/diamonds and switched to one of the “premium” voices. Apparently after I had used all of the free HD words/Diamonds it took away my ability to listen past 220 and began the predatory premium pop up I saw another reviewer write about. I timed it and it gives me the pop up after about every 1.5 minutes, this makes the free version unusable as it does not save me time to close out and press play every 2 minutes or so. As the other reviewer wrote, I get it you need to make money, and as someone with ADHD I see the value in paying for something like this but forcing a lump $130 payment for only 1 year of use is simply not affordable for most including me. Especially because it does lack some upgrades and feature to justify that amount. I am disappointed because this would be something I would use if premium were affordable or the free version was usable. I do not recommend this app.

Updates. The recent update made the app super slow and laggy. It already had some small issues in the past like freezing at times mid story or not pausing when I tried to pause (having to close the app and reopen it to stop) but those were minor and not often. The new update has mad it extremely slow. When I forward via the timeline, it takes a bit to load, something that didn’t happen before the “update”. When I leave the app for another app and come back, it takes me to the home page rather than the document I was listening too which is becoming super annoying because when I click on the document it loads for quite a but before opening it back up. Before you would land back on the story as long as you didn’t gully close out the app. Weirdly it gave me premium voices and speeds which I don’t pay for. It did start synching to other devices which that was an issue before where some things would synch and others wouldn’t. It’s now syncing very smoothly within a split second.

Awesome to use but can be annoying. I often use Speechify to read light novels, but if I import a book that’s too long, the text because buggy on Speechify. Books that are condensed into one folder usually have no problem. However books that are too long(usually 5 hours+), are broken into 2 folders or more. That’s not the issue however. The issue is, a lot of the times lines or words are jumbled up together and sometimes even letters are missing. I was reading the Tensura light novel and realized that in certain sections of the book in Speechify all words are missing the letter “k”. So word like “take, skill, or sick” will become “ta e, s ill, or sic”. The other problem was the words combining. Sometimes I would see and hear words like “feature contests” combine into “featurecontests”. Hopefully you guys fix this cause I would be listening and suddenly find myself listening to jibberish. Unfortunate this bug alone is the reason why I’m giving this a 2 star. Otherwise it’ll be 4 or maybe 5

Just started. Just started today. I’m hoping this helps me. I know I have some sort of learning reading comprehension disorder. I am 51 years old and never been tested for dyslexia but I do haveADHD and OCD. I struggle with reading and I don’t read at all! I am a very bad speller I believe due to this. I got by in school but it was a struggle. I think (don’t tell anyone lol ) I cheated on every spelling test I’ve ever taken. Added to all this I have a major major test phobia. And I believe it’s due to the combination of this. I know I know everybody has a test phobia but I really seriously have one. I don’t know what to do about it thought about getting hypnotized by at this point I think why I’m old lol so I’m hoping this all helps me and changes my way of living and I actually can learn and enjoy reading learning writing spelling. I do have to say $139 is kind of expensive but if it works it will be well worth it! I am so happy I stumbled across this. I will keep you posted on everything. Thank you very much for your time AJ Solano

Battery Killer. I tried the free 3-day trial and couldn’t justify paying the subscription. The premium voices require an internet connection; if you’re not able to be on WiFi, being on mobile connection kills the phone battery very quickly. The monthly subscription limits you to 150,000 words read by the premium voice. After that, it’s back to the annoying, medium-quality robot voice. That limits you to about 2 novels’ worth of reading per month. For my work as a full-time graduate student, that’s not enough; I have to read more than that. And $30/month or ~$90+/year is too much. So it’s all too constricting. There are cheaper options that are just as good won’t kill your battery, like Voice Dream Reader. (The voice won’t sound quite as good, but it’s a one-time-only $15 purchase. Easy and much less expensive.) Final con: Speechify requires too much user input for it to do what you need it to do. And then it crashes without saving your work. All books have to be meticulously cropped so that the app won’t read each page header, page number, and footnote. Voice Dream Reader automatically skips headers and page numbers without requiring manual user cropping or a cumbersome burden on internet or battery life. Again, simpler and cheaper.

Lagging. I would be very upset if I had paid for the premium version before doing the trial. How often it lags and how long the pauses are don’t make it worth it. I got this app to help me read documents faster and with how long and how often it lags, I could read documents faster myself. It lags after every single sentence (not exaggerating). Additionally, the premium features that are supposed to skip citations etc. don’t work and I still have to manually skip them. There are also certain documents that the app will have issues reading for whatever reason. I uploaded a basic news article and it kept glitching out, saying random numbers and words and jumping around the document. The format of the article couldn’t have possibly have been the issue since it was a very basic format. Furthermore, I’ve noticed that even though entire sentences are highlighted, certain words and phrases are indiscriminately skipped which can cause confusion on the meaning of the text if you are listening to the audio without viewing the text. This is upsetting to say because if these bugs were fixed it could be a great app, but since most of the premium features don’t work I don’t see myself paying for it.

Not bad…. I upgraded to premium in hopes that I would be given more settings to change. I used another program, and it allowed me to skip over things like headers and footers or things in parentheses. I wish this had the same options. It’s difficult to let something play because it chokes on things I would otherwise skip. It read years as one thousand nine hundred and ninety nine. It reads 3,000 as three zero zero zero but then reads 40,000 correctly. I am using this to help get through all of my graduate reading. But while I hoped to listen while driving, I end up turning it off because I can’t skip past things that throw off the reading. I uploaded a PDF and Speechify seemed to scramble it beyond recognition. I am yet to be able to let something play. It’s not bad but the settings need an overhaul. Reading the header every time in the middle of a sentence makes things really hard to follow and having to skip the footers somewhat defeats the purpose of being able to set my phone down and just listen while doing other things. The constant stopping and starting makes following along and absorbing the material difficult.

Great concept but still needs work. I love that there is a free version with acceptable-sounding voices. That said, the recognition does need some work. Even on the sample text provided during the onboarding, the voice kept reading “read” in the past tense, when it was actually meant to be read (ha!) in the present. There were a few other confusing moments like that where a word can be read differently depending on the context. In my own text that I tried, sometimes it would stumble on easy words, e.g. reading just the first letter of “the,” which ended up being “tee”. Like I said, the concept is great and I love the photo scanning and cropping capabilities, but when the voice reads with the wrong inflection, uses the wrong tense, or struggles with easy words, I’m not ready to upgrade to a paid version quite yet. The free voices sound pretty robotic and sterile, but even the paid voices have some opportunities. The paid Gwyneth Paltrow’s voice sounds like she’s been lobotomized. But the “Narrator” voice sounds promising though – it actually has some character and more natural inflections and rhythm.

Free version is now completely unusable. This was fine a few months ago when they still let users freely adjust their speed in the listening preferences section. Now, we can’t even go above 220 WPM without being prompted to try the subscription. And let me tell you guys, that is SLOW. Especially after you’ve gotten used to higher listening speeds that was previously available on the app. I know the company also needs to pay the bills, but some people don’t find the need to use the HD voices and liked the app for the user experience. Now, even that’s been ruined by how much they want you to use the paid version. I’ve since switched to another app that fortunately doesn’t charge you to listen at higher speeds. Edit: Putting basic features such as listening speed behind a paywall won’t incentivize customers to keep paying a monthly subscription. They’ll instead use other apps that don’t do this!! I suggest letting customers “unlock” higher listening speeds with a one time purchase. If they’re fine with basic voices, I don’t think the promise of higher listening speeds is enough incentive to be repeatedly charged as other apps offer that for free.

Pretty cool idea, but importing large PDFs are an issue. I have a textbook from college in a pdf format. I uploaded the textbook and it has taken over 24hours to process and its still not done. It broke the book up into 8 parts and i started to listen to one of the parts and it is all jumbled up and words were not correctly identified from the pdf. This is either bad OCR software or a bad algorithm. Its so bad im glad i only did a free trial and cancelled. Snoop dogg’s voice is cool and all but i cant u derstand what he’s reading me because this basic function does not work. Also, it would be really nice if when you imported, it keeps the original pages you can index through. There are no longer any page numbers, just the infinity wall of text to scroll through. I was halfway through the text book and i have no idea how to find my place now because there are no page numbers and i will have to search each of the 8 parts when they eventually finish processing. Cool idea, but the import feature was poorly implemented. The voices are really good though, hence my 3 stars instead of 1.

Amazing website and application. Typically I would not take the time to leave a review. This website/application has made an incredible difference in my life. I have autism and adhd and struggle tremendously with keeping focus while reading. This software has made it easy for me to access the readings I need for graduate school and keep up with the work I need to do. I rarely opt to pay for premium subscriptions for applications, but honestly this one was a no-brainer. I can set my reading to begin and do the dishes or work out while listening and more effectively learning. I especially like the feature that allows you to upload a pdf file to the website and listen from your phone. Most importantly, I think that this application is a huge step in the right direction for accessibility for all. This software would be great for people with vision impairments as well as people with certain learning disabilities like myself. I do wish the yearly cost was a bit cheaper, because more people would be able to utilize it.

Expensive. TLDR - The free content is functional but unpleasant, the premium content is excellent but ridiculously expensive, and I think you should be able to share your premium subscription with members in your household, like a lot of major apps do. The whole family uses this app. Of the five of us, all of us love to read, all of us have ADHD, and two of us are dyslexic. In terms of getting reading accomplished, this app is extremely helpful. The more natural voices are behind a paywall, however, and that makes the experience kind of jarring at times. The free voices are unpleasant. We have two members in our household who pay for the premium content, and I guess that’s my chief complaint. The premium content is good, but expensive. At this time it’s roughly 140 dollars for a year’s subscription. The 280 dollars a year we’re currently paying is already a lot of money, but for all of us to have access to premium voices we’d be shelling out 700 dollars each year, and that’s just way too much. It would be great if you offered a family plan. You have loyal customers here, it’s just too big of a bite out of the wallet.

I want to use this app but it is not cost effective.. As a college student an app like this is invaluable. When I got to experience it when I had the free trial, I was excited. Finally I could listen to long reading requirements for class while getting other parts of my life done. As an individual who has ADHD, multitasking is generally how I function at my best. Cooking dinner and listening to a PDF I need for class allows me to thrive. I’m sure many can relate to this. Anyways, the up front cost isn’t doable for a lot of people. I wish they had options, like 3 months at x price or 6 months at x price so those of us who are trying our best to get by and succeed can still benefit from a tool that helps us do so. By no means do I think the creators of this app don’t deserve to get paid but having it at more accessible price points would be great for those of us who can’t put $130 down upfront. I absolutely could pay $30 for 3 months though. Any subscription service should have an option of monthly payments. Please y’all, make this app more accessible.

Life-changing. I am just absolutely blown away by the quality of the AI reader. I have ADHD, I started graduate school this fall, and I’ve really been struggling to keep up with my readings - my focus is completely shot because of COVID and the general havoc in the world right now. Being able to listen to my readings while moving around, doing laundry, etc, is going to completely change my experience of this semester. I’m SO grateful for this. I just listened to a very dense and archaic primary source reading and found the voice (Stephanie) to be absolutely marvelous, even with the difficult syntax, and I was able to move around while I was listening. I had been sceptical about how much I would retain from listening rather than reading, especially with an AI reader, but I honestly think I’ve retained more from this than from most of my prior visual readings. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is going to be well worth the annual subscription cost - and I’m a full-time student, so I don’t say that lightly.

This app may have just saved my education.. I’m a 24 year old student with a recent and rather intense anxiety diagnosis. A common yet seldom talked about side effect of a major anxiety disorder is an inability to focus. I find my mind wandering to one of the other 1000 things it’s worried about, and I can sit for hours, entire days in front of a textbook, absorbing nothing. It’s the 3rd week of school now and I just found Speechify on a random, desperate search for helpful tools as my reading load piled up behind me, becoming a boogeyman in my closet. I’ve only used it for one article so far, but already I can remember more from that article than I ever could before reading things myself, and above all things, what would’ve been 2 hours of unfocused procrastination before 2 hours of choppy, interrupted reading turned into 30 minutes, while waiting in the cafeteria for my dinner. I’m actually a little teary eyed writing this. I thought there was something so wrong with me, I was starting to think I should cut my education short at an AA and walk away, before I flunked out. But now there’s this. And I couldn’t be more grateful for it.

App was great… until the interruptions. I’ve been using the app occasionally for months on my iPhone to read quicker - I’m just not very quick lol. That said, even after a couple of months, I don’t use the premium voices or higher speeds (I don’t find it helps me at all, and I would listen/read at 2x speed at the fastest), and while I absolutely loved this app, but now I can’t listen for more than a few minutes without a random interruption telling me to pay $100+ for premium! I find this to be a bit of a hard sell, especially when the voices I am paying for don’t sound all that natural, and I don’t care for the higher speeds. Most bothersome to me, though, is that the app, to my knowledge, doesn’t appear to have native support for Safari on macOS. I understand that business needs to generate revenue - I do. But there doesn’t appear to be any flexibility in the pricing, so users are forced to pay for features they may not care for and/or for an app that is missing features essential to justifying its cost IMO (specifically that using this on my Mac requires me to switch browsers for native support or use the website, which is a very clunky experience).

Brutally Honest Premium Member. You’ll buy premium and every month be capped by how many words you can listen with premium voices even though you bought the premium package for like 139$. And you won’t be able to know how many premium words you have left or know when they’ve refilled for the next month. These are just some of the fatal flaws. Another is that the premium reading voices WILL cut in and out A LOT and you’ll be left waiting or having to go back into the app to make the voice continue. Sometimes, it’ll glitch from where you are on the ‘’page’’ and re-read the passage from before even though the highlighted words continue down the ‘’page.’’ This app would be so much better off if it truly had unlimited access to the premium voices that their consumers paid for and if they fixed the few glitches. I would buy the membership again if that were the reality because I’m a very busy person and using this app should be able to save students like me time and effort from reading school materials while working full time instead of taking time out of your schedule to figure out how to get the app to work. The app I bought a premium membership for as a broke first generation college student and feel as though there were no benefits what so ever. Thanks.

Buggy but okay.. Although advertised as free it’s really setup to get you to subscribe which is quite annoying for several reasons. First the free version is very buggy. When opening a document the software will set a narrator that you did not select. This has happened to me on both the app and website. The free American voices are TERRIBLE. Typical robot voice that for myself is not only hard to understand but also bores me to sleep. The free British voice is understandable at least so that’s great and has made the app usable. Further the auto scrolling did poorly on the website version but has done well on the app. The website also did very poorly when trying to move ahead in the document (freezing up /completely starting back over, etc). The free version will also randomly pause your documents to try to get you to sign up for the subscription which is again quite annoying. Overall, the app is okay. I believe the subscribed version is a bit high. Nearly 12 dollars a month for a “nicer” voice is a bit much. It has a ways to go before being something very useful for me (I am a PhD that reads constantly.)

So many bugs!. I can’t believe it took me about a year to write this review. At first, I thought that speech if I was the greatest thing on the planet! But now it’s gotten to the point where I have grown depended on it so if it doesn’t work properly (and it frequently does not work properly) then I just don’t read. This is extremely troublesome for me because while I was able to cut through immense amounts of reading for my job, every time there’s an issue I need to uninstall Speechify and reinstall it again. This is probably why it is the #1 most downloaded app. People keep on downloading this app because they are trying to fix the bugs constantly. My subscription was supposed to run out on March 22, 2022, but it told me that I could not access any of the Priya voices or the higher end speeds unless I paid for a subscription again (and today’s date is March 3, 2022). I get that technology is always going to have bugs,But you guys need to find a way to make sure that the core processes still function appropriately. This is completely unacceptable!

I love this app already. I struggled with reading for the longest time. My ADHD made and is making reading complicated things, assigned work, things I don't understand, or things I have no interest in very difficult and almost impossible. This app has basically everything I've ever wanted in an app for text to speech: voices that sound pretty natural, a variety of different voices to choose from, the ability to change the speed of the voice, and probably the fact that you can import pretty much anything that has text, whether it be copy-pasting the text itself, pasting a web link to the text, uploading a text file, or even TAKING A PICTURE OF IT! And better yet— this is all with the free version! I didn't even have to pay anything to be able to unlock all these features. If I need to, I might consider purchasing the upgraded version, but I feel this will be enough for me right now. Thank you so much, I will definitely be utilizing this app soon.

Forced 5 star ratings. App is cool and all. But not worth paying $160 a year for.. did the free trial. And then it asks you to rate the app before you’ve even done anything. And it won’t let you click anything except 5 stars and submit. If you click cancel, nothing happens. If you click 1 star and submit. Nothing happens. Seems like this shouldn’t be allowed and is extremely deceptive.. don’t like companies that do practices like this. Earn your ratings the real way..**UPDATE** The developer emailed me back saying they do not force ratings. Your app is not the only app I’ve seen this with. So it wouldn’t surprise me. But that is my experience. You can’t tell me I’m wrong for what I experienced or say it was a glitch if it’s something that continuously happens.. you may want to contact apple then. Because that is what happened.. **UPDATE2** Developer messaged me again to ask me to message there help. How about no. I’ve spent enough time on this. I have a question for you, what makes you think this service is worth $160 a year? When screen readers are free?

Just started, but so relieved. I’m ADD and have always struggled to read. I just couldn’t get through more than 2 or 3 sentences without being lost as to what I just read. I figured out a few years ago while read Game of Thrones that I could do it if I read while also listening to audiobooks. I fell in love with reading for the first time in my late 30s. Through an odd turn of events, I decided to go back to school. I always wanted to be a lawyer, but knew I couldn’t do the reading. I used to joke about it as if I was just lazy, but the truth is that I didn’t feel smart enough to understand it. Now I’m in school again and trying. I’ve been struggling with the text and have been trying to hack every system I know to find one that reads to me, but I have just not been able to find one. An ad for this randomly popped up on TikTok. I had little to no expectations and figured I would delete it before the trial ended. I’m now in tears knowing that it’s exactly what I need and have needed all my life. Thank you so much!!

For the love of god fix the timer. I’ve been a speechify user for over a year now and to say it’s saved my grades has been an understatement. I didn’t realize how much I could read in a day with a program like this till I tried it. That said, I have one quality of life improvement: maybe 6 months ago the progress timer at the bottom of the screen stopped working and has not once worked since, regardless of how I connect online, (different WiFi’s or even cell service) or what device I use (iPad iPhone and the website). The bar seems to underestimate the time it’ll take to do a reading by half (ex: it will say a reading is 20 minutes, I’ll time it start to finish and it’ll take around 40). The timer seems to constantly be around half the accurate time. Because it’s so consistent across devices and wifi I know this isn’t a network issue, and building a way for the timer to take into account buffering time (which seems to account for at least part of the doubling in the timer) would give this previously unusably broken feature some potential.

So far so Bueno!. I just started and said over heels better than the stock when that comes with Apple I can’t even use android‘s win so frustrating to try and get it to read emails you have to copy and paste it on to notes also text or difficult if the copy and pay stole the notes so it’s nice to have something that works correctly and easily thank you for the free trial but I think $140 a year is kind of pricey able to force something like that fix the reader will think about it we’ll see what happens after three days. After the trail I have to say it works really really well, it’s a great program and I have to save my pennies to try and get this one it might be worth the money but I’d rather pay something under $100. I guess I’m guilty of the software being free for too long I remember when you to pay for every piece of it so I definitely get it. People that create this stuff need to pay their bills I would recommend this program for sure
