Calibre Companion App Description & Overview

What is calibre companion app? Calibre Companion (CC), recommended by calibre developers, is three applications in one:
- a superb device-based calibre library organiser
- a high-performance WiFi-based calibre device emulator
- a calibre content server and cloud provider client (Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive)

1) CC is a device-based calibre library organiser. Once you put books on your device using one of the connection methods described below you can:
- view a book's metadata (author, tags, series, rating, dates, etc.).
- sort and group books by their metadata.
- see book lists by cover or by list.
- mark books read and sync this information with calibre.
- launch your book reader application to read a book

2) CC can connect to calibre over WiFi and be detected by calibre as a device. Once connected, you use calibre to move books to and from your device. Calibre automatically updates all the book metadata stored by CC to match the latest in your library.

3) CC can connect to calibre’s content server or to your cloud provider to browse your library and download books to your device. Supports Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive.

Calibre Companion Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

And so the money grab begins.... When the new developers introduced the subscription model it was $0.99 a month. Now, they have stayed on Mobileread forums that as of September 1, the price is jumping 100% to $1.99 a month. This is exactly why I will NEVER do subscriptions. If they double the price again, the cost will be approaching nearly $50 a year...for a ePub organizer. (I paid a one-time price for the premium version under the previous developer) There is no way that the app is worth what they are charging for it. There have been almost no major improvements from them. I am not going to participate in lining their pockets based on all the more I have seen in terms of development & on how they have issued several very flawed updates. If I could give zero stars, I would.

Useful. I regularly use this to move stories to VoiceDream so I can listen to them as audio. My complaint is that advertising has started showing up on the app. I’m willing to pay for the app but not to get advertising as well.

The Most Useful Tool for E-Book Readers. This application has made it possible to organize my e-books using very useful and customizable categories, upload them into the cloud for on the move reading, convert file formats for my specific needs (e.g., converting PDFs to Kindle formats), etc.

Good program. Works very well. Has had one crash in the last 3 years, and lost the library completely, but was able to replace it from Calibre. Allows me to read epubs, but not azw files.

Disappointed in subscription choice. I've already bought this app but it's now become a subscription one with obnoxious ads if you don't sign up. If you're expecting people to pay subscription fees you should at least polish the ugly UI and make it possible to send books to the Books app in bulk. I would have even been ok with paying an additional fee for this app, even though I paid it once, but I simply do not want a subscription and don't think this bait and switch is reasonable.

This is a scam!. I bought the premium application several years ago while it was developed by another company. Now, with the latest upgrade by the new developer, this application reverted to a trial version, asking for a subscription fee. I understand that the new developer wants to move to a subscription model to found the development. Nevertheless, it should have done that by creating a new app and leaving the old one unmaintained. I am not sure that the operation performed by the developer complied with the terms of the App Store. In any case, I consider it quite inappropriate. I urge to have my application (the one that I pay for) back. If not I am gong to escalate the issue to Apple.

Well worth the subscription. App is working as expected. I fully support yearly subscription for a continuous support for amount of value this app brings. Keep up the good work.

This app is perfect!. This app is so helpful when it comes to organizing my library. It has great functionality to sort and filter based on my custom data points in calibre! This is a must have!

Great app. Use Calibre on my computer and this is an easy way to get the items to my iPad. Works flawlessly and it’s so easy

Worked great until the upgrade.. After the upgrade, this app seems to have a mind of it’s own. I also lost all of my books. Plus I can’t get the app to do anything now. It was just a big waste of money! It bothers me that the developers released a buggy update with KNOWN PROBLEMS and seemingly no concern for potential loss of an entire library of books. It also bothers me that when I bought the app, I believed it to be a one-time purchase. The new developer is planning on making this app subscription based. Great, now we are going to be nickeled and dimed on something that should be free to use after the initial purchase. Based on the way we have been treated by this developer, I will be reluctant to purchase anything by Mr. Cohen again. Greed and ineptitude have ruined a great product.

Has worked flawlessly for for me for years. Man! I just do not get these negative reviews. It organizes the books in Calibre in a number of useful ways and provides a very easy way to transfer the books. My Calibre library is stored on Dropbox, so no matter where I am, as long as I have an internet connection, I can get any of my books without connection to my PC, which is quite useful since I never take my PC traveling. Sure there are a number of other ways to set up Calibre to access your books, locally and remotely, but none as simple and reliable as CC.

A gem. I find nothing more frustrating than trying to side load ePub and PDF documents to an Apple device. This app in conjunction with the PC based Calibre system does it easily and quickly. Now I can pursue two of my retirement projects. Read every Weird Tales edition that I have digitized and every copy of my college newspaper (the Cowl)for the years I was there in time for my 50th reunion next year. Thank you.

Fantastic App!!!. Couldn’t be more pleased with the ease of use, the interface, and most importantly... the content! Highly recommend this app to everyone and have already got my parents hooked!

I didn’t buy this app expecting that a subscription is required!. I purchased this app a month ago today for $4.99 plus tax. At first it did not work for me because it would not let me sign in to my OneDrive account. Calibre Companion’s App Store page said they were working on fixing this, so I decided to wait. Meanwhile, a couple weeks later, I figured out how to enable 2-step verification for OneDrive, and I was able to log in with Authenticator. Today I saw there was an update to the app, but now it tells me I need to become a premium member (monthly/yearly fees), but I did not see anything about this before the update! I did not buy this app with a view to continued purchases.

version 1.3.1 buggy on ipad. I have been using CC for a while on my iPad and iPhone and it has worked without flaw in the past, but since IOS 11 came out it has been kind of glitchy. It was offline for a while but now the update has made it compatible with IOS 11, it is working fine on my iPhone, but still a few issues with iPad. The app serves me well and I do recommend it for getting your books from calibre to your preferred device.

Product works for me. This product holds my ebook files in an organized and aesthetically pleasing way. So far havnt had any issues with it.

This is a wonderful app!. I absolutely love this app. The amount of stories I have in Calibre is insane. And to have an app on my iPad that allows me to connect remotely is awesome! The subscription part isn’t too big of an issue, about the price of KU for a month, except this one is for a year. Totally worth it in my opinion. I’ve had the app for a few days now, I haven’t come across any issues. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants an app that can make it easier to get your books or stories to your tablet without the hassle of connecting or emailing to yourself and what not. Definitely 5 stars from me.

Is not a reader app; just a way to move your calibre books over. I thought this included a reader function, but it's just a way to move your books over from calibre. Works ok for me over wireless so far to move the books over without problem; but, lacking a built in reader, you still have to then copy them over to a reader app.

Intrusive ads in paid version. The introduction of intrusive full-screen advertisements that interrupt the app during use and aggressive pushing of the subscription makes for a frustrating bait-and-switch for those of us who *paid* for the app already. I do *not* care for the new developer of this app and will be searching for an alternative.

Used to be better. I purchased this App and now the developer decided to include Ads. Before it was useful for organizing my E-book library. Now it’s very distracting with all the annoying ads which I can’t get rid of despite having paid for this App, and this App crashes very frequently. If there were another alternative to sync books with Calibre on my desktop I would definitely have taken it.

New version got rid of all books on my iPad!. Used to be a good app. Then I got the latest "upgrade" which ERASED the over 300 books I'd stored on the iPad. A warning would have been nice. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? I consider myself ripped off. I paid what was supposed to be a one-time fee and instead lost books I relied on having and am expected to pay a monthly fee. No thanks. Kybooks works better.

Good App but Definitely Could/Should be Improved Upon. This was a good purchase in my opinion, but there are quite a few glitches and download from content server issues I have noticed. Also, I really wish this app had a dark mode since the white really hurts m eyes.

Great but not perfect. Love the app and desktop version however if they simply added the feature of allowing you to also read your ebooks it would be perfect

Not bad. Not a bad little app. I like being able to tote so many of my books with me directly from Calibre. I agree with an earlier reviewer who said the lack of a reader function is the main drawback. I had to learn how to use Marvin to be able to read the books. If the creator develops a built-in reader function so you don’t have to transfer books, this app would be GOLD!

Amazing!!. I bought this subscription for my mom as a gift for her birthday and she absolutely loves it! There are so many stories to pick from on Calibre which makes the price totally worth it! If you or anyone you know loves their books organized, then this is the app for you!

Good app, but change to subscriptions means I lose access to an app I previously paid for. This app used to cost a few bucks to purchase- I happily paid for it, and it was a great app. The conversion to a subscription mode is unfortunate, but understandable, in order to stay sustainable. What isn’t understandable, and is a really jerk move by the developer, is to lock me out of the app I already paid for if I don’t start the subscription service. According to the launch screen, I only get to skip starting the subscription dialog three times...

Used to be a fantastic app. I have used this app and the pc version for years, even going so far as to tweak my nas so I can have a Calibre server run on it. But recently it has been going in the wrong direction. Now I have to click through all this crap every time I launch the app just to get my to my books, it’s becoming more of a haste than its worth. Looking into alternatives.

Most Useful Tool for Ebooks. Calibre is hands down the most sophisticated and useful tool for managing an ebook collection. Filled with many controls and tools to convert, edit, sort, add information, and even be a server to other devices. Email books to devices or let them pull directly from the database. Much much more. And it is FREE and very well supported!

Love it. Sent my hundreds of books to a used book store, and with Calibre have my library at my fingertips.

Easy to Use and does its job. I use Calibre on my desktop and MacBook to organize ebooks. The content server method of transferring and consolidating documents works very well and it easy to get documents onto a device and use quickly.

Keyboard Covers Up Fields/Buttons, No Way to Resolve. When trying to input server data, the keyboard covers up the buttons and fields, preventing you from seeing or selecting covered fields or even clicking ‘OK’ to confirm your entry. Also, unless you’re going to pay a subscription for what largely appears to be an app with the same functionality as the free web page created by Calibre for accessing books on the server (which works great in iOS except for the constant need to re-enter credentials as though I was accessing a financial account), you’ll be confronted with annoying ads for the paid version every time you open the app. I might consider paying if it was a one-time fee, but a subscription model is for me, like with most things, out of the question. I’d rather pay $200 once than $5 per month—I don’t want to have to remember the charge, and I want to have something approximating genuine ownership of the things that I buy.

Sept 2019 update is a disaster. I liked Calibre Companion and was happy to pay for it to keep my ebook library available on my devices. Since it automatically updated I have now lost all my books, the comment was that they didn’t think it was a big deal to reload everything. This combined to with the move to a monthly subscriptions means it’s time to research an alternate method and delete this now useless app.

Used to be a very solid useful tool, getting worse. I happily paid for this app a while back, but lately the subscription model is basically an annoying barrier to using the app. Now, with latest update, it’s also asking me iCloud login every time I use it. So performance is degrading, but the dev is asking me to pay a subscription fee.

Latest Update (Ver 2.0). This latest update deleted all of my books from the app which I use on my iPad. I thought it wasn’t a big deal because I could just sync everything again. But once I did, I found it very hard to navigate. Whenever I type a book tittle it won’t search for it. It will also not sort things in any order. I tried sorting by date, author, etc and nothing. My books are all there I can see them but when I search for anything specifically it doesn't work anymore.

Subscription model breaks app. Happy user for many years before subscription model. Just want to sync with Calibre on my Linux desktop. More is less. Deleting app. UPDATE: contacted by developer: "If subscription model is only thing causing you issues, we are sorry you won’t pay $1 dollar to use the app. It helps support our development moving forward. " Dear developer, if you want to fund development please carefully read the reviews. Many of us are willing to pay a fixed price but not to commit to an ongoing subscription or endure nagware. I would gladly pay a fixed price for each major release with significant improvements.

Lack of background permission breaks 2FA. I use two-factor authentication with my Dropbox account, so to sign in to m Dropbox to get to my Calibre library there I need two pull up my 2FA app, but Calibre Companion closes out of the login page and drops back to the welcome screen when I do that. This app is only usable with cloud libraries if you use the weaker security settings for your cloud storage service which is completely unacceptable to me

Works well for me. I have app on my IPad, my Calibre library on my Mac. Works well to transfer books and organize them before sending them to the Kindle app. Thank you, Hogen

Non-intuitive crap. This app does not work with Calibre on my Mac. I cannot get it to sync as Compaion just keeps displaying the same error messsges regardless of what I do. There is NO HELPFUL support info for what I am expecting experiencing. Whoever did final testing on this crap at Calibre should be fired-either didn’t work or so complicated that nearly impossible to get to work. So Calibre got $4 from me. Way to go Calibre

Doesn’t do much. You can send your books to your device but you can’t do anything with them. When I use the share sheet, I try to send the books to Kobo or Apple’s Books app, and nothing happens. I activated the apps files location in the Files app. When you try to open the folder it doesn’t open and reports problems with the helper app. I am on iOS 14.

No longer connects as wireless device. At one point in time this worked wonderfully to sync my ipad with my Calibre library. When I try to connect now it connects and starts its “initial sync” but after 30 or so seconds it appears to disconnect. No error is given. It just silently fails. I don’t have the time or patience to deal with bad software. It’s bad enough that it fails but it’s even worse that it fails with no explanation. Your mileage may vary. You may never trip over the issue I’m experiencing but since I’ve got no way to tell what happened to cause this it’s possible you may.

Calibre on the go. I've been travelling for the past 6 months all around the world and I couldn't imagine not having Calibre Companion with me during this time. Knowing that I have full access to my Calibre library no matter where I am in the world is a life saver. Other apps simply do not have the organization capabilities that this app does so do not waste your time. 5/5 and highly recommend to others.

Lack of recent updates. I have paid my subscription, but it is months since the last update, there are still bugs and functionality updates needed that I reported and to date nothing. What is the point of the subscription?

Subscription Methodology. I don’t think subscription is the appropriate model for this app. My stuff is stored in OneDrive, so I view this app as a portal to access my existing content that I could easily just access by opening OneDrive itself. Tweetbot used to do it so you would pay $5 for each new installment of the app (version 2, version 3, version 4) instead of a monthly subscription. I like and appreciate Calibre and hope the devs get paid but that’s just my two cents. I’d gladly pay a $5-10 one time fee every time the app gets a big upgrade. The only thing I don’t like about the app is how I have to tell it to open OneDrive every time I want to reconnect. I only have one library, so I wish it was automatic.

Gets More Annoying with Every Upgrade. I would love to pay the developers of this application for a Pro version that pays for their hard work. It’s worth it to me. What I don’t want to do is to pay for a subscription service. I definitely don’t want to be hammered with random loud ads at random intervals. In the end the aggravation simply isn’t worth it. I’m choosing to just uninstall the app and download through other methods. There are too many alternatives built into Apple products to put up with this annoyware.

Recent update!. The most recent update cleared my database. All of my books are gone. I know I can move them over again when I connect to Calibre, but I was not happy to discover that everything is gone after updating. Anything I've done on my iPad since I've last connected to my computer is gone. This is super annoying. If I knew it was going to delete everything, I would have waited to update 😠

Not very easy to use. Just trying to add my library to an iPad and so far having a hard time understanding the program. The Calibre on the computer says there isn't enough space even though I have only around a thousand books and the iPad has 100 GB for free.

$15 per YEAR (I’ll gladly support). Thank you guys for this platform and ease of access to my book files ... and thank you for keeping the costs so low for us. I love being able to take my books with me anywhere I go with the phone in my pocket !!! 5 Stars! Thank you for dedicating your time, effort, and resources to making this a possibility. Alexandria’s library is now in my pocket. Cheers, Jesse

For what it’s worth. Like the majority of the recent posts and reviews on this app, I am greatly disappointed with the developers decision to go subscription! I have been using calibre library on my laptop, and Calibre companion on my iPad and iPhone for many years having paid for and appreciated it’s simplicity and flexibility. I am simply disenfranchised by this and so many other applications which in recent times, developers have decided to, Basically take advantage of those who have respectively purchased an application in a market please where virtual commodities seem to imply that the consumer has less rights to propriety subsequent to purchase then in a typical brick and mortar commodities industry. It is time that Apple or the App Store take the lead in a market place where regulations are still significantly lagging and either antiquated or inappropriate , in the rapidly changing virtual market place, and develop policies that protect the consumer of their commodities and hold vendors to the usual implied contractual responsibility to their consumers. Consideration could be given to how “possession” is defined and perhaps those who have previously purchased and now “possess” an application on their device can, by way of a grandfather clause, be protected from back end coercion into subscription charges that we’re not part of the original purchase terms and agreement. Sorry Calibre for the rant, but you deserve it!

Background Refresh. Even as a free version user, I find this app very helpful for accessing my Dropbox-stored libraries. It takes advantage of some of the primary advantages I see to using Calibre, including tag searching and cover display. The biggest complaint that I would like to request some attention to is whatever goes on while the app is in the background. I’m usually using my Calibre libraries during research, which often requires juggling multiple apps. When in the background, The app resets to the home screen and disconnects from my cloud server. You can imagine how annoying this is. I do also have two feature requests. I have two libraries in Dropbox. It would make more sense to me to select which library to connect to from the home screen, rather than connecting and loading a library & then having to switch. This seems counterintuitive, and I am constantly hunting for this selection. There’s also a bug of some sort that always indicates the library I want (but which isn’t currently connected) selected, so I have to toggle twice to get it to actually load. Finally, it would be lovely if some additional search functions loaded, as I find Subject my most useful tool for finding references. Thanks for making this handy tool! I’d be happy to chip in for its development, if you could see your way to abandoning the subscription model. There are too many of those in our lives these days.

An alternate way to upload reading material. I don’t want to pay for someone else’s paid storage service, so I have tried Calibre Companion as an alternate way to upload and read books. The interface with Marvin is good. Also, I send some material to Write PDF. But it’s Calibre Companion that makes the transfer possible. Thank you!

Can’t sync it. Done everything on the help advice. Doesn’t connect so I can’t use it

Wonderful on ipad, but.... Taps into my calibre on my laptop wirelessly so that i can read and save my books in ibooks or the kindle app on my ipad. Very easy and convenient. So glad I bought app. But for some reason i can’t get it to do the same on my iphone. ??? Not sure what problem is. FIVE STARS for ipad, ONE STAR for iphone.

Goodbye. Sorry guys. I’m not subscribing.

avoid, subscription fees and ads. I paid for this app and now the developer has added both ads and subscription fees to the existing app, not allowing me to use the original app without fees, and with no reimbursement for my existing purchase. Thanks to this being a “virtual good” I have zero recourse but to delete the app and warn everybody to avoid it.

Brilliant App. One of the most used and useful apps on my iDevices. I use Calibre, have a large collection of books on my computer and find this app to complement the computer version of Calibre very effectively. I love it.

Waste of time. Doesn’t work. Don’t bother downloading.

Useful. I enjoy being able to transfer my books via my wireless network to my iPad without using iTunes and having to sync. It is a useful app. After books are in Calibre Companion I can then read them using iBooks. It would be a 5 star review if CC was also a reader and not just a way to transfer books.

Caliber. Best app I have ever paid for life so much easier

No updates for couple of years. The app now has an annual fee (was a once off fee), with the promise of enhancement/improvement, bug fixing. I pay my annual fee, however no updates for the last 3 years, no point in paying the annual fee. Product showed some promise of be developed further but has just stagnated.

One drive support did not work. Couldn’t find metadata.db despite it being in the cloud drive root.

Not happy Jan. Reinstalled this app a month ago after not using it for a good few year, since installing the charges have changed upwards nearly every week, can’t believe how greedy you are!

Great. Fantastic app

No offline access. The app won’t even open while offline. That makes it virtually useless for me. Also, I’ve already paid for the app. I’m not going to pay a sucscription.

No forward thinking by developers. Yes this seems to be alright on the surface when wanting to access books on my Calibre but how about some simple tweaks so you can add books that are on your device, you have to pay the $5.99 there is no way to trial and I believed that it had the ability to add your books I would not have paid for this item if I had known how limited it was give it some forethought and use forward thinking you would reach a lot more people

You Beauty!. Wow! At last I have easy access from my Calibre Library on my laptop to my iPad. Relatively easy to use for one who has limited IT skills. Thanks.

Do not buy. Despite having a subscription now has ads and is not syncing

Not functioning on iPhone. This app will connect to your Calibre library, and download the book. But it will not open them on the iPhone.

A disaster - DO NOT DOWNLOAD. After many years of faithful use, CC decided to get greedy and introduce what has to be the biggest cockup in app history. The latest version introducing a subscription even for users who paid like me, totally destroyed my library, due to the way it handles new setup. Even now I can’t login to my library to replenish cause of a bug that hasn’t been fixed for months. The author blamed his team members. Google calibre companion and you can see the disaster unfold. Do not update or download this app until the author has fixed this. If you are still on the older version do not ever update. You will be forced to pay a subscription.

Very useful. Was concerned from some reviews that app wouldn’t sync. Had no problems! Hope those who are having problems solve them as it is well worth it. Works very well. Still testing various reader apps for my PDFs. Found Foxit PDF was a good option. Well worth the money.

Worth paying for.. This has made my life so much easier. I highly recommend this app. If you have a large library this will save you hours. My sister can now borrow a book from my library without waiting for me to find time to email it, and when I visit her I can browse her library and borrow whatever I want while she makes dinner. I LOVE IT.

Will not connect. I’ve tried everything in the help and faqs but everything fails.

No Thanks. I’m not going to pay for a subscription to read my books. There are better options out there.

Good product. I really like the Calibre app for organizing my books on my iPad. One glitch is that it shuts down when you delete an item, but otherwise I’m very happy with this app.

I love this. I love the way Calibre Companion provides a dependable link between my desktop and my iPad. This version is easy to set up and works very well.

Annoying adware. Largely useless

Fills a niche - very useful. When I found myself in a situation where I wanted to put eBooks on my iPad and other methods were not flexible enough, Calibre Companion proved to be a very handy tool! Clean interface and fairly straight-forward to use, I recommend this app for the ability to browser your Calibre collection and move books to your iOS device. One recommendation: Add the ability to select what eBook format you would like to import to your iOS device from the currently available formats (ePub, Mobi, PDF, etc.). This would provide your users with even greater flexibility.

Purchased and now a subscription?. I am not happy. I previously purchased this product and should be grandfathered to NOT have to pay a subscription in addition. At the very least refund my payment if I have to pay a subscription!

Wow just wow. Paid app, now with ads and subscriptions!

Disappointed.... Just updated the apps. Very unhappy with this update. It’s a downgrade for me. The app was working perfectly before, books were easy to find and the general look of the app was pleasing. Now, I feel i’m looking at a very cheap version. Also paid for the app before and now I’m asked for a subscription for a lower quality version! I wish I did not updated it and kept the previous version.

Won’t connect. It won’t connect at all. The troubleshooting is ridiculous (merely tells me to click on the connect/share button — of course I've already done that). I paid for an app that it doesn’t work. Not happy.

Why do I get ads when I’ve paid for the subscription?. It’s only ok. It gets book from my content server. But why can’t it just sync with my PC’s whole library library?

Amazing Dropbox catalog ontegration, works great with iOS 11. I love Calibre companion, especially it's smooth Dropbox integration with my Calibre catalog. Love being able to access Calibre and my metadata without having to leave my Calibre server running on my Mac With the latest fall 2017 release, CC also works seamlessly with the Marvin 3 e-book reader.

Wonderful!. For years, I have used Calibre to manage my library on my PC. I’m so thrilled to have it on my iPad now, using it in conjunction with Marvin. Such a great program/app!

App was abandoned. No support, no updates, and no bug fixes are or will be available since the new owners walked away.

Horrible App. This app is slow, complicated, and geeky.

Used to be great, now not so much. Can’t even search for books by title. Incomprehensible to me why they decided to demolish a perfectly good product. I’m sympathetic to the idea that devs should be paid on an ongoing basis for an app with ongoing utility, but this is such a downgrade in functionality that it grates.

Missing Functionality. I have been using CC for years and never had a complaint until I tried it on my new ipad. Why, oh why can’t I have the book series displayed in the list view? It did this on the kindle. Why can’t this functionality be on the ipad version? I just want to sort my books by author and see which number in a series a book is. I tend to buy the whole series at once, so going back and figuring which one to read first is time consuming. Can this be fixed please?

Does what it says on the tin.. Excellent mobile companion to the venerable Calibre app. Highly recommend

DOES NOTHING. Complete waste of money, doesn’t sync properly at all. Cannot download books once you do sync. Basically had to get a different app and drag and drop my Calibre library into Dropbox, so WHY would I pay $13 for this app?? I would like a refund immediately. Not interested in visiting the support forum, would simply like a refund of my money back. Thank you.

Do not waste your money with this app. After last update the app does not stop to offer premium service and there is not option to stop seeing this add, even this is a paid app(it was, I paid 6.99$ and now I have to pay a premium service, that’s not fair). But that’s not all, now we have ads inside the app, so what is the point about paying for it. You should refund all the people that paid for this app.

Showing ads even with subscription?. I pay for this app through a subscription and I am seeing lots of pop up ads in the app. Not cool at all. Uninstalling.

Premium member now I get ADDS. I pay an annual fee. Today April 19, 2023, bloody ads start popping up all over the app. This app is clunky but it works. So much for the premium features. Borden, the annoyed!

Amazing!. I finally can add epub books to iBooks on my ipad directly now that is has been removed from iTunes. And it’s easier than it used to be with iTunes.

Goodbye. So, two years without any updates and zero tech support, and now a new subscription model that provides no recognition at all for users that previously purchased the app. How can anyone assume that there will be steady improvement going forward when the past history is so dismal. This just smacks of a money grab .... goodbye.

Best. Best book app EVER!

Purchased previously. Why have you added a subscription price? I’ve already paid for this before. Why have you changed the bookshelf so drastically? I liked seeing my books neatly arranged with not too much space between them.

Calibre companion. Don’t waste your money. You cannot get through the dialog box to enter your user ID and password to login to your content server. Ok button is always disabled so cannot get any further. Absolutely useless and a waste of money! Very disappointed!

👉 Are you looking for an Adsense alternative advertising platform?

Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!

Monthly?. Ads are annoying but paying every month for an app like this is excessive.

Groupings no longer work. Shows all books only when in bookcase view. Doesn’t show all the books when in list view.

Get rid of the offer to purchase the service!. Please don’t make me have to click past the ad every time I log in.

Used to be good. I have had this for years. Now they've added a subscription nag screen that locks up my iPad and requires a reboot. Not the kind of app that's worth a subscription, but DEFINITELY not one that is worth it if it's so buggy .

Used to be great, now useless junk. Loses books, does not find most of books by ANY grouping. Have to go down list manually and NOW.... I want to read a book and it pushes a political VIDEO add when folks around me are sleeping.... it does not get worse than this... Don’t waste your time. I am uninstalling

Ads. Why am I forced to watch ads even though I paid for the app. Constantly crashes

Easy. Love how I can pull books from calibre to my iPad so easily and quickly.

Garbage App. What used to be a nice app has been made turned into a joke, and the developer has the gall to actually ask us to pay more for a terrible product. Go elsewhere.

Unusable on iPhone. I am unable to login to my content server, and from the support site, I can see this is a developer error that has been causing problems for iOS users for months. If you need help, dude...please. Just ask for help.

iPad 2 not working. Says added a book, but can’t see it on iBooks. I can add with just the Calibre server and Chrome browser

Subscription nag screen. It’s too late to request a refund for me now. The app now has a subscription nah screen you have to skip every time you open the app. I paid for this app less then 6 months ago. This is a bait and switch.

Brilliantly helpful!. You may have to Uber your IP address of your computer into the app but the extra effort really pays off. One of my favorite apps!!

The Update Wiped my Library Completely. Can NOT recommend. Not willing to ever pay a subscription for something I have to basically start over with after only having this app since December & paying $9.99 then. The developer says he screwed up yet blames his team for the bad update. I’m uninstalling & will find something else

The app does nothing. Connect iPad to computer. Load iTunes. Transfer EPUB. Easy. Or set up content server. Easy. This app does the same thing, except in a much more complicated and confusing way. There is really no point to this app and it brings no value to the transfer/sync process.

RIPPED OFF / DO NOT BUY / SUBSCRIBE. Been a Calibre companion user for quite some time. Latest software revision has crippled ALREADY PAID FOR software and is asking for subscription money twice before I can use my ALREADY PAID FOR SOFTWARE. Escalating to Apple

Careful. This app sells all of your info, on top of changing their subscription models without warning.

Never Used. I bought this app and have never been able to sync with my computer. Not any configuration. Not any troubleshooting step. I keep waiting for updates to fix it but they never come.

Worthless Now. The update wipped out my library of over 6k books. Since they are moving to a subscription based format, I will be removing this app. I don’t trust them.

Can’t connect since last update. Loved the convenience of being able to download books from Calibre wherever I was, but since the last update it can’t connect. CC asks for a password but the OK button is grayed out, so there’s no way to submit the password after typing it...

Calibre mobile. So happy that this app works so smoothly for me. Appreciate all of the developers!

Worked great for years, then...... Recent update erased over 3000 books on 2 different devices. Search function no longer works. Large books do not transfer over.

All my books got removed. The new upgrade got rid of all my books in this app! That is extremely annoying.

Unable to connect. Haven’t been able to connect since April of 2018. Tried again after each update on my Windows 10 laptop, and after each update on my iPad. I had at one time all my books on Companion, but like others, they all disappeared. Now I have an empty, useless, app.

Feel ripped off. I purchased the app a while back and now getting the prompt for subscription. I read that if you paid to just ignore the prompts but now I’m getting ads and can’t download my books. I guess greed trumps promises

Have they lost their minds?. How is an app that gets updated twice a decade going to switch to a subscription service, and then not even honor it for those that paid for the app previously? I’m incredibly disappointed.

Great Tool. Was so easy to use and helped me organize my library

Such a useful app. Calibre companion lets me take my library on my wireless devices. Tons of useful features for organizing my library. Love it!

Fantastic app. This app does a great job for what I need.

So I paid for the app. And now I have to pay for a subscription too! I’m not going to do that ever.

Popups not great. Subscription requests are annoying, a one time price would be acceptable for more features

Content server, wireless connection, and cloud don’t work. Why don’t any of the connect/share features function? I’ve followed every rule, but your app can’t connect. How can I get a refund if this is not fixed? Not worth $15

Subscription & Ads. This is an app that I paid for and now they want me to subscribe? I don’t think so! In order to keep using what I paid for, I have to put up with it asking me to subscribe every time I open it, input my iTunes password multiple times while using it and put up with ads popping up at me! I’m done!

Subscription R U serious. The subscription doesn’t make any sense. Tons of apps offer OPDS support for free. Check out Marvin 3 for reading calibre books on your ios device

Wasted my money. I didn’t know I had to have the original calibre on a computer before putting it on iPhone. I think I wasted my money on all the books I got since I have no idea how to get them from .epub to kindle

Trash. New subscription service and lack of updates

Should have paid attention to the reviews!. I updated and lost my entire library!

Sorry, not buying in. Why would I pay for a subscription that essentially duplicates whatCalibre already dosas. You have to have Calibre to use this app. Silly! I will just organize on Calibre, then download all of what I want to read to my device.

Junk. The app is junk it wants you to synch with your computer and is totally unusable unless you do that and pay... also didn’t work as advertised, didn’t convert the whole book just the first two pages or so.

Goodbye. I paid for this app a short while ago. First switching to a subscription model without creating a pro/classic fork like most other apps and now having nag screens to click through in addition to constantly scrolling ads is just too much to deal with. Deleting app and finding a alternative.

Meh. Not very intuitive. Not exactly what is advertised. Wouldn’t necessarily recommend as it seems impractical.

Was a fan, not any longer.... So, an app that I have already paid for, you now want me to pay a subscription to keep using? With, arguably, lesser functionality, more bugs and a broken ui. The old version was a solid 4 stars, but I have now deleted the new version and have moved to Mapleread CE.

Terrible app. I got this app to work once. Then never again. Apps like this and apple themselves are leading my frustration with electronics and are making me rediscover my love of paper

iPad reader. Allows me to organize all my books in one neat place

Nag screen for an app I paid for. I originally paid for this app and now I’m expected to also pay a subscription fee? You should have launched an entirely new app if you wanted to change your business model.

Broken, buggy, and betrayed. Searches fail on the simplest keywords. Crashes frequently. Erased 2000+ ebooks because some PM or dev didn’t think that would be a big deal. Can’t believe I paid money for this garbage. It looks like there are other apps coming up to replace this joke, so I’d suggest not flushing your money on this one.

Will not work with IPad. Connected one time via content server....never wirelessly. Update IOS and could never get it to connect again. Buyer beware: Do not purchase for IPad usage

Just What I Was Needed. I have my entire Calibre library on my phone now. Super helpful

Simple and Intuitive. Easily syncs with my content server. No issues connecting and transferring my books.

Subcription meh. I will not pay a subscription to a utility app. Charge me a one time fee. Otherwise good luck you have ruined a great app.

Junk, doesn’t work at all. Never get any content besides the word label. No sign of password entry. Tried ip, domain, url, web port and content server port as well as wireless. IP and port entry is stupid. Complains if I don’t use url but if I use url complains I entered a port. But if there is no port the done button is ghosted. A hot mess by people who don’t know how to program.
