The Best App Right Now. Everything about this app has been what I should have expected expect only one tiny thing. I’ve been using this application lately because of Coronavirus news, and to be honest, I don’t complain, but as I just noted earlier, if you guys can just add this one feature, it will be helpful for not only me, but maybe for many others out there. I think you should add a search field especially for countries and/or cities, so people can search for specific locations/country to get the news they want to know first. Many among us are separated from our families. Therefore, for those who are concerned, their first intentions when they open your application, they intend to look for news about the countries where they came from for their loved ones if covid-19 has worsened or not. This is before anything else. But again, I love you your application and I use on daily basis.

Has potential, but hostile comment sections are causing me to delete the app.. This app has potential. I like being able to quickly get news without going to Twitter or somewhere else. It’s a quick click. For the most part articles sent to notifications have been relevant (although the frequent click bait stimulus articles have been annoying). However, the comment sections are horrible. For some reason racist, anti-mask Trump supporters have flooded this app. They leave awful, aggressive comments and harass anyone who has a differing opinion. I have attempted to have civil conversations in the comment sections (and have seen others attempt to do the same) and we have only been met with aggressive hostility. These comment sections either need to be deleted or need to be heavily moderated. I haven’t seen an option to report comments either. So unfortunately, I will be deleting this app to protect my own mental health and caution others about downloading it. It’s draining. Keeping up with the news can be draining enough, but the hostility in the comments is disgusting. I will be checking out other news apps and am hoping to find one that hasn’t been overrun by hateful bigots.

I like this app but.... I like the news, I like being able to track the virus cases in my city and I like being able to track the protests. Of course there are some repetitive articles, but this app doesn’t report the news it compiles it in an easy place for us all to see. What I really hate about this app is the community, doesn’t matter what article you go to you’ll find terrible terrible bigots in the comment section. These comments really need to be moderated, and a lot of those people really should be put on a watch list. They think because they’re just sitting behind a phone screen they can say what they want, but that’s not how it is. Everyone needs to learn that the comments they leave effect people, it’s not what you meant to say it’s how other people perceive what you say that matters. Some of these comments are just so heinous and terrible skewed towards incredibly racist undertones and even sometimes it’s so blatant you’re just surprised. If we’re talking about the actual app though, it’s pretty great, but I think you should disable the comments seriously.

Avoid the comments. Update 2: It appears the devs have allowed the blocking of news sources soon after my first review. You earned a star! Still, those comments are terrible though... Update 1: This app needs to disable the comments section completely or at least give people the option to disable it themselves. They are worse than Facebook. Probably equally as bad as Twitter. Though I admit I’m not on either anymore. People say the most vile, hateful things to each other and about the world in general. It really detracts from the purpose of staying up to date with current events. Original: I love that I can just get the top news stories and local headlines. However, I’m tired of accidentally clicking on certain news sources. There are certain ones I want to block and never have my data affiliated with, yet there is no way to do that currently. Please fix that.

Repetitive posts. I like this app for the fact that I can can pretty current local news. The biggest down side is that there is a repetitive almost and onslaught to just make a news break about the stimulus check. The post are over and over saying when you will get your stimulus or how much you will receive them but when you pay attention there really is no update at all. It seems like it is just making people who have the app anxious or aggravated that we don’t have the stimulus check yet. If there is not a real actual and factual update then don’t post a news break stating the same speculation reworded. Your only making your users more and more impatient for the stimulus. I never see a repetitive post about anything else. I hope this is not politically motivated because this is not news if there is no actual updated news to report on the same subject. I don't want to delete this app because it is good for local news like is previously stated but I will if I keep getting flooded with the same non-news post about the stimulus.

App needs to be shut down and under investigation. You get 1 star for sharing the news and that's it! This app only does one thing right and that's report the news. But please explain to me why there's no consequence to the racist comments you allow in the comment section? There shouldn't even be a comment section!! This isn't FB or IG nor Twitter!!! The comments are so vile I'm convinced this app is ran by extreme racist. The comments are so bad against blacks and other minorities mainly blacks it's disgusting!!! Theyre so racist they assume it was a black person who did the crime and make vile comments only to find out it was a white person. Fake names crazy profile pictures. They openly use nasty racist words, threats, harrassimg people in the comment section. We report them and nothing is being done about it. If you won't fix it (disable or filter the comment section) and have rules then I guess it's time to get people to cancel this app and get it shut down!!! Share the news and THAT'S IT!! Nothing else is important!!!! You can save the same Copy and paste response you dish to the other reviews about the racist comment section. Your agenda is clearly seen!!!

Grammar Matters!. Where are the journalists—and more importantly, the editors—who went to English class? The NewsBreak articles are very reliable in terms of real-time happenings; however, some of the articles lack the grammatically-correct impact they should provide. A more broad use of descriptions (adjectives) would be welcomed, too! (Find an online thesaurus?) For example, how many times did we have to read ‘restaurant in Southern California’ in the story about the San Pedro Fish Market (I believe that’s the name of it…!) that seats over 3,000 people?! Yes, I was born, raised, & reside in Southern California, & I am encouraged to visit San Pedro to experience the food & views (from beautiful photos, not details in the article), but why don’t we learn a little about the city & (on the marina) location (in San Pedro, California, if that wasn’t too obvious—but there are ‘many other locations’ mentioned, as well), until the address is listed at the very end?! It also would have been nice to learn where ‘the other locations’ can be found. Overall, this Catholic School Girl truly appreciates the NewsBreaks. I just wanted to provide some constructive criticism. Thank you!

Yet Another NewsBreak Fail. I previously wrote a review complaining how even if you opened an article in Safari the page would remain in a NewsBreak container, making it difficult to share the legitimate link without jumping through hoops. That review has mysteriously disappeared. Now you can't open articles in Safari AT ALL, and that is just unconscionable. Restricting people from being able to perform normal functions for no other reason than to drive traffic to your own site is a really bad look, and makes the app useless for anything other than reading headlines in notifications that do nothing more than inspire you to search the web for the legitimate articles. Zero stars until you restore some semblance of normal functionality. You have now ensured I will NEVER share a NewsBreak link for any reason. Nobody else should either. Let people use the Web as it was intended and stop trying to control them for your own self-serving interests. I have saved this review so I can repost it in the event it also disappears.

App needs a search and filter feature. App is pretty good, but needs the ability to search the headlines for keywords. Also needs a filter so that certain sources may always be omitted from results, e.g. always exclude CNN, etc. Also, the ability to mark story categories that you don’t want to see anymore would be useful. Say a story pops up about sex or gender issues, and you just prefer not to see those type of stories anymore. Also, big ads which appear as if they are stories are repeating or often shown. It would be nice to mark or tag the ad and say “I’ve seen this, I’m not interested, please don’t show it to me anymore thank you”. The app is surprisingly fast and responsive. There are so many news apps out there, this one seems to distinguish itself by it’s responsiveness — its very fast. The big ads appearing as if they were stories is an interesting take on generating ad revenue, but they are not obtrusive (at least in 2 column landscape mode on an iPad since real stories appear on the left, while the ads feed appears on the right column with other real stories.) The app needs more features as I have mentioned to make it more appealing.

Used to get vital info but now..... I really used to appreciate the NewsBreak notifs because they were new and informative. In past two months though I have gotten, literally, 3 notifs a day about the Second Stimulus that there has been no new info about especially while Congress is on break. Why do you keep torturing those of us who really need REAL info about the Stimulus because we cannot go back to work? It’s more than annoying, it almost feels like the app is rubbing it in our faces. If you read the comments under each of these articles I am not alone. Last article had 3,000 comments saying exactly what I’m saying. I am turning off notifs and will rely on local news app from now on. UPDATE: I have deleted the app. Not only am I still getting 5 articles a day about this stimulus package still and there’s no new news..... on top of that the app is linked through Facebook so any political article has some of worst commenters who spew hate speech and threaten violence. I spent a few days reporting the comments but it doesn’t matter. The most sane thing to do just delete. I get my news from large political outlets who don’t have uneducated people threatening people who don’t support the president’s narrative. Take out the Facebook link for comments (IE make us make an account) and quit sending the same articles 5 times a day and I will return.

Great app. This app is perfect to keep up with local news and other topics of interest. I love the push notifications and would give it a five star if it wasn’t for one frustrating glitch. Whenever a notification of a story pops up on my phone, and I click on it to read, the story opens for a brief second and before I can click on it to read, the app refreshes it’s stories and I can’t find it anymore. I’ve resorted to seeing if I can beat the refresh moment..so it’s part of the fun. But seriously can you make it so that the notification actually open the story directly? There have been times I wasn’t able to find it and had to resort to searching on safari or just not reading it. This app is wonderful and that glitch doesn’t take away from its great features. There isn’t another app like it that I can find, so I will make it my go to. Thanks for developing it. Great work.

Not a Real News Source. I downloaded this app because news stories from local sources often linked to articles here, usually articles by the local newspaper where they are not available to read online unless you have an subscription. At first I thought it was a pretty good source for a variety of news articles but have quickly seen that the entire app is like one big radio morning show with odd pieces of trivia and other off-beat news stories. Many of the articles come off as legit, but when you look closely, it’s clear that it’s all made up. Another issue is the rapid fire ads that are blasted in your face. One article I tried to read opened with some radio station’s banner across the top of page, a video ad adjacent to the banner and another on the lower part of the page. While trying to read the headline to see if I clicked on the right article, a screen filling ad for the same radio station that already had taken up almost half the page with banner and video ads shockingly popped up. I tried to close the pop up ad but it opened another full screen ad first so I had to close it then the other ad. Frankly, it’s just a constant visual assault that is frustrating. So if you like mostly fake (unverified) news, radio station morning show approach, and constant sensory assault from an app, this is the app for you.

Great App to keep Updated on News Locally!!. I’ve been using this App for a handful of months now an my phone keeps it Updated. I personally have never had not even a single problem since downloading it even after the Latest Update — It’s rare to find a App that’s so dependable never crashes or anything else! Obviously, you have the choice either in downloading your Local News Station Apps from the App Store. As for myself I’ve got them downloaded on my devices alongside this awesome App for the variety of News stories locally/statewide. I gave News Break a 5 Star Rating for a few reasons like they don’t just give you News Stories Locally you'd later Watch on the TV. Offering a variety of News Content (lots of which you probably wouldn’t ever see) from all around your State. They made this App where all News Stories from Locally including around your Stare are offered to the Readers together in one Convenient App which makes this in my opinion the Ultimate Local News App! Also they always are rolling out New Updates on News Break fixing little things here an there even though it’s perfect where it’s at an it’s absolutely free so far from what I’ve explored! Devices I’m Using This App on Daily Are My (iPhone XS Max 256GB) and my (iPad 9.7” 128GB) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

It’s great but….. It’s a good app, that I unfortunately had to delete because every breaking news moment sent to my phone or watch was about one particular ex president. Every. Single. Notification. I tried blocking political/ news. Nothing, as if it tried sending me more nonsense. Don’t get me wrong, political news is important, but these articles went overboard. Opinion pieces & junk news. I wanted local news which it claimed to have, if u dig on it’s app. It’s really not a face I wanted staring me down on thanksgiving, or any other day 15-20 times a day. It gets 3 stars because if you love him like a taylor swift Uber fan does then this is for you. Unfortunately I do not need to know when the man get out of bed and makes a tweet and forgets a period or an explanation point and somehow that’s breaking news. I stopped even reading the app, which I preferred over the Apple News which I ironically pay for. So we will stick to that since I can block both news and news sources I do not want to hear from.

One spot for news - with a caveat. Update: I’m my review below, what I was seeing was a web site I was directed to with more ads than news. I had erroneously thought that NewsBreak was responsible for the plethora of ads. However, this particular web site appeared more than once in my feed, and I was getting frustrated. With that being said, and understanding what’s going on, I do wish there was a way I could target that web site not to appear in my feed. I understand ads are a major way that revenue is created to keep these feeds going, but some go to far and I try to keep from giving them that income. I have been getting the email notifications and would go to the source to read the story. I decided to install and use the app - and that’s when I realized that the space given to advertising was almost 3 to 1 over actual news stories in the app. And I was forced to scroll through the ads to read part of a sentence, then scroll through another ad, to read another small sentence - all the way through the story. And trying to scroll on a phone without the app launching an ad is frustrating at best. I’ll stick to the email and read the stories from the source. The app is just to frustrating to use when you spend more time dancing around advertising than what the app purports to be.

Good for a fast read.. I started out loving this app. It was great for my local news. It gave stories sometimes first, sometimes those I couldn’t get elsewhere. I started using this app in February. By April it started having so many bugs it was barely useable. If you actually get linked to a story shown, and then want to follow on to another shown below, it won’t follow the link. So then you think ok, I’ll open it in Safari, but then you get the first story and can’t find the one you wanted to read on the homepage of that news outlet to which have been directed. It is terribly frustrating. This app has the potential to be one of the best news apps for local news and has done a great job of keeping readers up to date on the corona virus and its ramifications in my area. But it is not quite at being fully integrated. I end up loving and hating it at the same time. I admit to being a news junkie so I always want to read MORE. Developer, please, bring this to the next level. For those who want a fast read of generally what’s happinging in your area, give this a try.

Great if you like trivial clickbait and political spam.. This news feed can be tamed a bit over time by giving negative feedback to bad articles or by blocking bad posters. However there are too many of these, perpetrated by large outlets spamming their political agendas and by individual contributors spamming their social agendas. Which is great if you like endless climate alarmism, imaginary sob stories, and stale sophistry about social issues. One can easily identify which social and political issues are being either pushed or vilified by Big Media. A minority of articles are real news, however they must be screened one by one, which gets tiring. Edited to add that I’ve been informed by the developer that they are working to reduce low quality contributors. I will improve my rating from two stars to three pending my evaluation of their most recent update. Edited to add that the problem is getting worse rather than better. Every day one has to wade through a spate of new irrelevant posts and misinformation to get to the real news. Mediocrity appears the norm for their ‘independent contributors’.

Great news consolidator app. This is my favorite news consolidator app. Does a great job presenting a wide cross section of top news items without obvious bias (possibly embedded but not obvious). Not sure but suspect there are some restrictions about the available sources but still hope to see continued expansion. A few wish list items: Restore simple view - this option was recently deprecated. Too bad. I really appreciated the ability to just view the raw content. Much quicker to navigate. Probably had issues with source providers. Source selection - would be nice to have the option to turn off sources (not just topics) that are uninteresting to me. Article ordering - it would be great if articles covering a “similar” topic were presented together in descending date order. I know that “similar” is a high bar. One of the principle reasons i use this app is to view diverse perspectives on the same topics. It would help if they were presented accordingly.

What you’re really getting. A feed of article headlines and pictures ranging from what Kim kardashian wore to bed (and you’re not gonna believe the reaction) to more serious presidential news. All taken from a diverse spectrum of prestigious news organizations to rinky-dink news outlets I am unfamiliar with that with the click of a story, you are instantly redirected to their news page. The reason for my rating, is that I wanted a more selective group of stories by which I mean I have no interest in knowing “Pregnant Katy Perry looks stunning in no-makeup selfie amid quarantine” or any “no cover” topics in my mind and have no way of weeding out of my feed. Nor do I enjoy when I (admittedly) don’t check first and am redirected from the app to the website of a news source most would find unsuitable for a work setting . Furthermore on the rare occasion I find a story I wish to look into, I click the link, the page nearly loads, crashes, automatically begins reloading, crashes a second time, when I am then left with a dimly lit, gray, blank page, and yet again no interesting story. With my options reduced to worthless page fillers and an eternity of refreshing only to never be able to read the article that made it worth the bandwidth used downloading this app in the first place, I fully intend on uninstalling the second I post this warning.

Four stars but maybe five?. I love this app for having local news but some of the news outlets won’t let you read their articles without a subscription, namely the Minneapolis Star and Tribune and the Virginia, Minnesota news paper and the Hibbing Daily newspaper. I am asking you to check with the news outlets you use to see if they require a subscription or not. If they don’t I hope you will drop them because it is annoying to read a headline only to go in and find out you can’t read an article unless you pay for it. There are so many free news outlets online that I can’t imagine any news outlets not offering free reading of their news. Also, the app keeps sticking in place when I try to scroll to read the news. Sometimes this happens repeatedly and I cant do anything when it freezes up like that so I have to leave the app.

App for local and breaking news’ lovers. In the past few months, my mom and I’ve switched to get my news through Newsbreak. Its entire news feed revolves around our personal interests. I like the way they present the “Following” tab as well as “For You” tab, both delivering personalized news feed. I am also impressed by the numerous good-quality sources they have, which seems to be the key metrics for a good news app right now. The full coverage of local news is the reason my mom love this app and choose it, as my family can get the latest news from our county and the news around the world. I do not get swamped with push notifications that much. .. the notifications I do receive are nice and gentle reminders of good stories that are available to read, which also reminds me that I have the application (which is nice! ). The only glitch is that sometimes they get me the old news stories in the notification, which confused me a little bit. I am looking forward to a way to report this error to the team so that they can do something about it. General speaking, Newsbreak is my favorite news app among several for now!

5 stars. The newsbreak app is super good for me because I like to know what’s going on and I like getting notifications and you also don’t know you can choose not to get notifications if you choose not to get notifications and Ignant tell you about a whole bunch of things like for Mia to notify me about hurricane Italia in shootings and stuff that’s going around in my neighborhood and my place so I love it is my favorite app so far in it a lot of people like it us whole lot and that’s why I gave it a five star rating because I can choose not to get notifications up at hardest said that and they get their notifications come really fast and it’s super cool to have the app so that’s what you should get it Also most people really love it and I like it because sometimes it notifies me when I really want to know about something that’s going on

Extremely bigoted comments. I just deleted this app but when I first downloaded it, I actually liked it at first as it sent news from a variety of sources. What I did not enjoy was that there were no anti-racist, anti-lgbt, or anti-xenophobic (and literally anything else alike) comments. Everyone has their opinions and even if I don’t comment myself, I like looking down there to see what people think of certain events. At some point in time, I realized that there were almost no comments that were non-bigoted. It really seems like this app is deleting those comments and encouraging racist people who are all types of “-ists” to keep commenting stuff that not only make other people uncomfortable but were to the point that they commented that wanted to physically harm others. That’s my spiel. I hope you know you’re disgusting and encouraging hate in America by doing this, NewsBreak. You’re a company and I know you’ll never change your ways but to whoever reads this and you know you’re contributing to that, I hope you know you’re making this world a worse place.

UPDATE ON REVIEW!! LINKS ARE BROKEN/OPEN UP!!. IF I COULD GIVE IT A “ZERO” NOW I WOULD!! UPDATE: This program has gotten worse vs. better over the two weeks. It got to the point when I click on the notification area to read the news report that I wanted, the screen would come up blank!! But, when the article that I want to read does show, I still can’t finish reading the full article/news report I wanted, the links are still broken/won’t open up!!! OLD REVIEW-WAS A 3 STAR THE GREAT THING’S: I love the news stories that is available to read, especially the verity that is there. I like the way the program remembers what type of news you like & updates you on these areas of news that a person likes to read. I especially like the categories on how the news areas is set up. I use the application a lot, since I have the notification’s on news areas that I like to read. NOW THE BAD THINGS: I would have given the program a “Five.” But, I am getting annoyed that when I want to read the news notification that I set up “I am not able to do so!” The link at the bottom of each part of the news story won’t open up most of the time. You only get to read the “Teaser part of the news only & not the whole news story!!” I usually have to shut the program down & reload it, before the news extensions/links will work. But when I do that, I can’t find the story that I wanted to read in the 1st place, when I had to restart the program! Please fix this problem & I will update my review.

Would have given 5 until they made this 1 change. I really enjoyed this app because unlike most others, it’s not an echo chamber of the same side of the isle stuff over and over again. They are a little left biased somewhat but that’s just because of how awful the media is minus a small percentage. But..now they want you to sign in using google or Facebook or to create an account so they can continue to track your speech. I used to be able to comment anonymously without needed to sign in with one of my accounts but not anymore. You can still upvote and downvote comments but you can’t comment yourself anymore. Which wasn’t how it always was and I like it that way. If anyone says something inappropriate or threatening, you can still report it and you would do that even if you didn’t have an account with a user name before. But not anymore and that’s a major drawback for me.

Great way to stay on top of current events. This app allows me to stay up to date with my local news as well as national news. I am also able to read articles from newspapers and news channels in the locations where my distant family members reside. I also love the ability to like the article helping the app to recommend more stories similar to it. There is also the ability to comment or respond to comments made by others. Unfortunately, there are often times lots of arguments in the comments due to difference of opinion. There should be a feature to report very offensive comments and the user be suspended for a period of time. Just be aware if you make comments rather good or bad, someone will likely counter it for their shameless entertainment. I usually pay those comments no attention. But overall the app is really great.

News for the Woke and Vacuous. This app will alert you to breaking local news sometimes, which is useful. Precisely because that news is breaking, this feed cannot, of course, be fairly faulted for its lack of detailed coverage in those situations. What I find downright annoying, though, is the so-called "progressive" spin of so much of the news coverage, much along the same nauseating lines as Yahoo! News and MSNBC. A secondary drawback is its over-emphasis, IMHO, on some of the basest elements of mass culture. If you prefer your daily dose of saccharine blue pill mental analgesic, then perhaps this is the echo chamber for you. You'll also be among the first to learn when soap opera stars marry or when sports stars re-sign with their teams. But if your sense of personal integrity and commitment to the truth have led you to choose the red pill, instead, despite its bitterness, then you'll look elsewhere for your information, though perhaps holding on to this site, too, for an occasional taste of the swill others are swallowing.

Where Trolls Go To Thrive. UPDATE: the SmartNews app is where it’s at. No troll comments, just plain local news from REAL news sources. No video feed of violence and death, like the NewsBreak app (which I don’t know how they get away with that.) Apple shouldn’t allow NewsBreak to advertise because of how incredibly violent its videos are. SMARTNEWS people! Ditch this cr-app and get real news without the blatant misinformation. I have no idea how many accounts I’ve blocked on here because there is no way to view that data. I can go to an article with 200 comments and see 3, then block them because they claim ridiculous notions. The UX to report misinformation and block is terrible. But don’t go to the comment sections to have reasonable debate, but do if you enjoy complete discourse. I accidentally went to the video section. This app appears to do NOTHING to filter out violent content. In fact, this is the only app I know that’s available that has almost exclusively videos of people punching each other, or many other types of bodily harm. Although News Break does allow me to see my local news in a single place, I can’t say it’s worth the utter perpetuation of what is absolutely wrong with platforms that spread misinformation and where trolls go to thrive. Please don’t even respond to this review and say “thank you” and “we are working to make it better” because you’re not. And why would you when you are getting cheap clicks and engagement with garbage.

All about the ads…. They replaced the “Following” tab with a “Videos” tab now. I don’t want to watch videos. I want to read articles from sources I follow and not what you force on the feed. I follow those sources because they aren’t LOADED with ads, they’re local, and I can actually read them. Now, what’s the point of following my preferred sources when I can’t even find them? Super frustrating. The vast majority of “news sources” on this app are overflowing with ads. To the point where they aren’t readable. Even the opening splash screen for the app itself is misleading and invasive. BTW, for you newbies, there used to never be an opening ad splash. You used to be able to just, you know, READ THE NEWS. Advertising in this app has gotten out of control. This app used to be my go-to news source. Frustration and disappointment is all I get now. I am so done with this thing. How I wish there was an app out there that actually lets me read the local news I care about and not the drivel that comes from corporate media. 😡😤

Ads have become ridiculous. I liked the app better when they weren’t in the form of multiple banner ads at the top and bottom, taking up nearly 50% of the screen. I understand you need to run ads for revenue, but once you cross the threshold of making the news hard to read, you lose revenue anyway because people stop using the app. There’s a secondary problem with a lot of ads covering content. This needs to be addressed or many will just walk away. UPDATED: The space reserved for ads just keeps growing month after month. Taking away another star as this has gotten ridiculous. UPDATED AGAIN: Advertising abuse is growing rampant in the app. “News” articles are stuffed with more ads than content, and the ads activate on a delay or based on scrolling, and the end up moving the page content around continuously so it’s impossible to simply read an article without having to keep re-finding your place. The advertising bar at the bottom takes up way too much screen real estate, and the side pop ups tend to have a false “X” that causes them to open rather than close when clicked. I’m getting very close to giving up on this news platform.

Racist App. Irresponsible News App…because of apps like this is the reason racism is still a thing…most all news is targeted toward brown people with tan people being the suspects…I don’t see reporting on brown on brown crime, never see Asian, Indian, etc crimes…this app is like watching the news, but worse…because of who runs this app (a racist) we are only seeing what they want to report on…even the adds target hate toward people with tan skin…news shouldn’t be focused around race whatsoever, all crime should be reported on, with an emphasis on all the missing…I wish we could all come together, and focus on the brainwashing the government and apps like this one are perpetrating on all Americans to hate each other…if we hate each other, we can’t focus on what the government is doing and stealing from all of us!!! All our brothers and sisters need to come together and find the common ground on we’re our focus should be, because if this keeps up racism will be a side note when we become a 3rd world country with all the rich politicians, and Hollywood stars moving to other countries, leaving us here to kill each other over clean water, and bread!

good for news, bad for comments. i love the news break app and was introduced to it by a friend in march when covid was getting serious in the US, for more information. i love how you can have local news and national news alerts and covid stats in one place. however, there’s a few issues that need to be fixed. the comment sections on topics, specifically regarding trump and covid, there is insane radicalization and fake news being spread around in the comments and their replies. these comments spew hate and false information that is very dangerous. it is irresponsible for news break to not being filtering or disabling comments right now, especially since it is a literal news app. i have seen literal death threats to government officials, false information, and even more misinformation about the covid vaccine. it is so important that news break does something about this comment section because radicalization and misinformation about a vaccine that could save thousands of lives is very dangerous. i don’t want to go to check my news in the morning and see trump supporters spewing hate and threats and false information.

Decent. I do like getting notifications throughout the day and that I can control how many notifications I get and when. I wish the comment sections weren’t so toxic, but free speech *is* good to have. It’d just be nice to see more respectful discord and less trolling happening, but alas. I thought there was a search function, but I can’t find it for the life of me. It’d also be nice to search for stories you are looking for especially when you open the app & it displays a story just to disappear a second later. That’s frustrating. It would be nice to see less depressing stories. I like keeping up with world, national, local and events, but don’t necessarily want to be inundated with depressing information all day long. I also like that it attempts to stay non-partisan. I prefer my news to be non-partisan so I can make my own decision, but also like seeing opinions from the left and right to better understand people’s positions. It is nice that there is a scale in your settings so the algorithms can try to give you want you want. All in all a good app.

Expand your sources & Is there and Editor for your relatively new News section?. Today from one of the “content providers” who looked to be about 22, and had an agenda to share his view that Americans who think this is a great country are WRONG! Why because of the recent SCOTUS rulings. Then he proceeded to only revel in his genius because they have the ability to limit comments. So you want to just allow people a platform to espouse only one sides view. THAT IS WHY WE ARE A GREAT COUNTRY WE HAVE THE 1st Amendment that allows me a dissenting view. However, I have noticed that several of these “content contributors” simply misstate facts or eschew the fact that a 5 minute internet search will allow them to find the true facts rather than spewing misinformation. Are their No Editors for your “content creators?” Isn’t it your view that if you give these yahoos a platform, you should at least make them use facts and not myths? This used to be a good app but now that you have started your News Dept it’s almost unreadable and is certainly another platform spreading misinformation. Finally, maybe you should learn from others like BuzFeed or CNN+ and ensure what you put your BRANDNAME on is at least factually correct?!? I don’t recommend!

Degenerated fast. I've been using this app for about 3 years. I've been able to discern between their legitimate articles and their crap. I really appreciated the comment section. As of today, it's been a week since I've been able to post and/or receive comments. That's the only reason I would dig through the articles to find some with a sibilance of honesty and unbiased reporting. Being as that is difficult and now I can't discuss my opinions or the opinions of others makes this just another app. Reading the reviews I don't understand how you show such a high rating for this app when most are negative. I shared my experience with people I've recommended the app to and we agree that you are biased and are censoring your comment section to the detriment of Christian conservatives. So I and the 11 people I recommended this hack of sight to will or have already deleted it. Thankfully reading your reviews was given suggestions for better apps and will download those apps and delete yours. I would wish you luck but I wouldn't mean it. I don't agree with selectively muting or blocking certain people and letting others spew hate and filth. If that's the site you want we will move along to a better article where we can express our views without someone deciding they don't like what I say and just not letting me be a part of the conversation. C-ya

Some good, some bad. It’s a nice layout, the main/top stories are presented nicely, and overall pleasant to look at, but the fake Clickbait articles are awful & plentiful. Some of the editors don’t seem to try with actual content and rely on misleading headlines to generate a click. It makes the experience of using any news app less trustworthy. It also seems that the keyword or “cookies” system is broken, just because I clicked a random article about roller-coasters or bacon, it does not mean that I want 100s of news articles about that targeting me forever. I find myself going through the headlines but afraid to click as to not generate a cookie on a topic that I’m not interested in. Overall it can be an entertaining app to use, and there are some reliable articles but the whole thing is over saturated with fake news and click-bait type of stuff, bringing the overall experience down.

Daily CORONAVIRUS information (State links to DPH) outdated. I can only speak for Georgia; the state's Department of Public Health (DPH) link has been outdated for over a month... the link takes you to a "Page Not Found" error. A little editorial work, or delegation thereof by the NewsBreak editors (or even allowing email feedback on the NewsBreak app - I tried that and they haven't even set up an email link for Support!!) and they would have known about the issue themselves without someone having to leave a shoddy review. Additionally, if you live Local to a tired old newspaper - the kind that literally will not allow a single story to be seen/read online (beyond the first couple of sentences) without your purchasing a subscription - you won't ever get any actual Local news. NewsBreak shouldn't even post these stories! It's basically an offshoot of clickbait...." Here's a breaking news story in your area!! [Reader clicks] Oopsy. You'll have to pay if you want to know how the investigation into the unsolved murder of a beloved 83 year old woman in your community is or isn't progressing, though the flailing TimesGeorgian wrote a headline that makes it sound like the sheriff has leads... it's just clickbait to make you buy a subscription and find out the sheriff is still baffled."

MY OPINION. Hello I will take a minute to share my opinion of NewsBreak. One of the primary things I enjoy about this site is that they allow you to write you opinions on articles and stories. Most of the other news sites could care less about their readers opinion which is obvious if they don’t allow comments. Other news sites will allow you to comment if you subscribe to their rag. I personally do not like to be coerced into paying for subscriptions to sites that are not good to begin with. There are a few sites that post articles with a significant amount of misspelled words and grammar errors. You start to wonder who are these people writing the articles, do they not have spell check or they just don’t care about what they write. It makes me think that what ever they are trying to write about isn’t reliable. So far NewsBreak meets all the criteria and seems to do a through job at reporting the significant events all around the world. Great Job

Local News cam be found elsewhere without the dubious articles. At first it seemed convenient. I live in NYC and sometimes just the sheer density of it all can drown out some truly local news. And it was sometimes handy that covid info was readily available in the app. But whether it’s just by circumstance or design, the feed shows a pattern of peppering real news with dubious reports and some outright disinformation. I’m not talking about the NY Post that’s a highly opinionated, politically charged tabloid-it’s always been a part of NYC’s landscape and their inclusion in the local coverage is understandable. I’m talking about truly blatant misinformation about covid, vaccines and politics, and from “news” sites no one’s ever heard of. It’s not clogging the feed, but their occasional appearances make it almost more insidious. It may be just their algorithms doing this, but as it’s already just another tech firm trying to capitalize on others’ content, I don’t like it and don’t trust it. Better off following a couple of local newspapers and TV stations in your area since that’s all they’re really doing.

ads and irrelevant stories. I checked out this news app after having refrained from using one for over two years because it is #1 in the news category in the app store. I deleted it after 2 minutes. It's littered with ads, and the built in browser is clunky. The amount of information you'll obtain in a few swipes is miniscule because news headline links take up an entire page. Terrible UI design. If you need news on your phone, do yourself a favor and buy an adblocking app like 1Blocker and add the safari bookmarks of reputable news sources like Reuters to your iPhone's home screens. You'll get no ads, you'll be able to CHOOSE the sources you want to read from and overall will be a more active digester of the news. Why anyone uses these ad infested hunks of UI garbage is beyond me. Don't download. They also sell your digital soul to the devil and God knows to whom such a small little company like this sells your data to. They also have no option to delete your account through their app. Sus.

No more. This is an up dated review. Originally I only gave it 3 stars and here is why: I really used to like this app. I could get a synopsis of new stories or I could read the entire news story itself. However now there are ads appearing in the middle of the stories and they cannot be read I’m going to delete this app and I’m going to tell everybody I know not to get it until this is taken care of it is ridiculous. So frustrating to get in the middle of a sentence and then have the stupid car ad or some other ad in the middle of the rest of the story. Please take care of this problem. HOWEVER — I received a response from the developers thanking me for my review and I am now updating to 5 stars. And I want to thank the developers for being so responsive! I wish they all were.

It’s decent.. but there are some fatal flaws.. I downloaded this app to keep up to date with some things in Orlando while I’m here. Upon looking through various articles on the app, not only did I find that a lot of them were irrelevant to the news I actually needed, (news about crimes, laws, COVID-19 rules and so on), I noticed that the comments of most articles are just filled to the brim with spam, toxicity and hate speech toward one race. With especially a lot of hate toward black people. Every article I saw that included a black person or had nothing to do with black people always had a bunch of users in the comments going “stupid black people are the devil race” or “black people cannot be as smart as white people”. There have been other statements and even more horrible and derogatory ones the further you look into them. There are literal accounts on this platform dedicated just to hating on another race/ethnicity and it’s as if no one is watching over the community and moderating these comments/accounts. It really does not create a positive experience for anyone on the app and it sure doesn’t create one for anyone actually leaving useful comments under the articles. Like I said, this is a decent app for keeping up with local news in your area and has the potential to be on the level of an app like Citizen, but I would really like for there to be an option to report entire accounts rather than just block them. As of this review being posted, I have deleted the app.

Great when it works. I love the fact that I can see all the news stories in one place instead of trying to look all over the web for them. However, I also deleted this app due to the many glitches I have encountered which cause frustration when there’s a story your really interested in reading. I’ll receive a notification for a news story, and after clicking it, the app will open up. Then 9 times out of 10 I’ll click to open the story and nothing will happen. I have to close the app and then reopen it, then try and search through the articles to find the one I received a notification for. Since I tapped the notification, I’m not able to tap it again. I usually just give up and go search google. The same thing tends to happen with the stories I might be interested in that show when scrolling to the bottom. The first link might work, but the rest won’t work at all. Of course when I go online to use the news-break website, I always end up getting redirected to open the app for the article.

Deletes anti racist comments and leaves racist comments up. I think it’s funny how I always consistently see extremely racist slurs and statements commented by many people, but any time I comment something in defense to these racist comments, my comments just disappear? Honestly, I leave nastier comments on different topics (people being sexist, etc) yet those aren’t deleted.. but every comment I have in defense to racism is always deleted? I’ve made sure to not include any sort of hateful vocabulary many times before, and they’re always deleted. So much is wrong with this. If you can delete my comments or prevent them from posting, you could easily do the same for these racist comments that I’m feeling the need to respond and defend in the first place. Don’t make me feel wrong for defending unnecessary hate. You’re wrong for supporting it. All those hateful comments and users all ignorantly comments the things they do because of apps like yours. Because you’ve made it obvious which side you’re on, and they love it. An app like yours shouldn’t have biases, but it’s obvious that you care more about supporting the hateful space you’ve created rather than making smarter business decisions. Just like I say to everyone I comment to, karma is real and whatever you think that makes you feel oh so untouchable is the exact reason you will receive the karma you deserve.

Racist company. Yes a lot of ppl of color now know for a fact this company is 100% racist. Ppl of color can mimic a white person racial comment Word for word And the comment FAILED TO POST BUT the white persons comment post like a sleeping new baby. SO WHAT DO YOU CALL IT? Many ppl of color has done this word for word a a white person racial nasty comment and guess what the little box comes up FAILED TO POST!!! I’ll update my review when we ppl of color see that your trying to stop us from being called all racial names by your white posters A GOOD IDEA IS TO FORCE THEM TO USE A REAL NAME AND PIC JUST LIKE FACEBOOK DOES NOW AND IF THEY HAVE NO ACCT FORCE THEM TO HAVE ONE IN ORDER TO POST THEN YOU CAN REALLY KNOW WHO THE PERSON IS? We ppl of color are so tired of even a story of a infant turned and call black this or blk monkey baby that YES WE GET ANGRY BECAUSE YOUR COMPANY FAILS OR WORDS BACK TO THEM AND THEY CONTINUE TO CALL US INHUMAN NAMES EVEN GEORGE FLOYD DEATH THE WHITE PPL ARE ALLOWED TO SAY BLK DEAD AS N HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MURDERED OH AND THEY CALL ANY STORY ABOUT A MURDERED CHILD AND THE STORY YOU JUST WROTE ABOUT THE CHILD IN DETROIT THAT WAS TAKEN FROM THE PARENTS AT GUNPOINT THEY BELITTLED THAT BABY LIKE A ANIMAL SO YOU SEE UNTIL YOU HOLD THIS RACIAL ISSUES ACCOUNTABLE WE HAVE TO SAY TO ANYONE THAT WILL LISTEN ITS ALLOWED

Local News. I love reading local news when I am not at work. Bigger papers do not cover important news in my community and I need to be informed to feel comfortable living in Islip. I grew up in Islip at the time when the only local news was the Islip Bulletin which we had a subscription for at home. With the internet and great reporting, your “newspaper” has improved my quality of life because I feel less isolated from my community. This is very important during the COVID outbreak and for the aging population of Long Island who may not get out of the house as often as they did when younger. I hope that you continue to inform people of news, jobs, and events. I also want to congratulate you on a job well done and give you my best wishes for the future! Thank you all for your excellent work which is greatly appreciated!

Love app, hate notifications…. I love this news app. It’s very informative, and keeps me up on my local news. What I don’t like is the notifications… I go through and clear the stories I don’t care to read, and the ones I’ve already read, and any that don’t interest me. They return the next day or within a couple of days. This morning I had 62 notifications for stories that were written as far back as 7 days ago, that I had already cleared because I wasn’t interested in reading them. How about fixing it so if I “clear” a notification I’m not interested in, it stays off my notifications… I really don’t want to turn off all the notifications. Other than the notifications, I do love and enjoy this news app. I recommend it to people quite a bit. Keep up the good work.

Overwhelmingly Negative. I downloaded this app almost a year ago. I’ve loved it because it does provide notifications on what’s happening in my local area. However lately with the current COVID-19 crisis, it’s all the app has become about. It’s great for staying up to date on what’s happening with the corona virus, however as someone who struggles with anxiety, I’m disappointed and frustrated that every 3 hours I’m getting a notification for something virus-related. I could understand if it was letting me know about business closures in my area or info on the ever-changing stay-at-home order, but it’s not. For example, the most recent one had to do with the surgeon general predicting a high death toll in the next week and “9/11-like moments.” Last night it was something to do with Trump’s statements about the rising death toll as well. I get that it’s a news app, but it used to give me more info than just the current world crisis. I don’t need to hear about all the bad stuff, I’d love some more wholesome content. However I’ve decided to delete the app as I can’t see that happening anytime soon. Again, great app for staying up to date, but not if you’re already overwhelmed by it all. I’d recommend not downloading until the pandemic starts to clear up. 2 stars would be my current rating, but before all of this I would’ve given it 4.

It gives you what you look at and lies.. If you watch on fires then it focuses on giving all stories on fires whether it’s made up or real. If you watch something on whatever subject just one time then that’s what they send you over and over. Besides it’s a bunch of made up stories, and it’s completely bias on the side of evil and wickedness. It’s like watching a made up horror flick continuously like as if it’s real life. They want people to believe this garabage. Although some tragedies happen like this it’s not as constant as they are trying to make it. And a mom gets her children back from the state( which by the way you cannot trust to do what is right anymore) and make out like she was so wicked to her children but the only negative comment they could say was she had food and wrappers in her car. Really? How stupid! I want the true side of the story from all involved. I want to know why her children were in several different foster cares and how the foster care parents were treating them and why if she is so wicked, all 8 children went to be with her. From Arkansas to California. And it’s hard to believe the story is even true, why would she flee to California knowing those perverts are worse than anywhere toward children? Why wouldn’t she go to the mountains and ask a nearby country off grid person to help her? Or Go to an Amish community. Or go to a desert community? I’m tired of all these lies and twisted evil garbage. WASTE OF TIME and CONSCIENCE!

So, I have a friend I’d like you to meet.... In this day in age.. where all news is biased. A friend of mine shared one of your articles. So I do the natural thing. Download your app just so I can read it. Even allow the “push notifications.” Because, As rare as it is, I actually, genuinely, still want to hear what people have to say!!! I really enjoyed this channel for a few days. Fast. Direct. To the point. And then. As we are known to say in the south. “Welp?”. (Sarcasm inserted). I know I’m a nobody and I am just a little tiny review. And maybe I’m just fed up like everybody across the nation is for so many reasons. Ya know. I guess for what it’s worth. I’d just like to see a small news company be the change. The one that speaks all sides. Actually fact checks. All sides. Real is what people want in this digital driven age. People are afraid of the truth. They don’t always like it. But whether they know it or not.. people respect it. Thank you. Disclaimer. I do not troll the internet, nor am I some new self proclaimed activist or wannabe. I think I’ve written 3 reviews for anything in my life. Just felt the need to vent or whatever. Or at the very least. Maybe give someone a good laugh. Maybe I should like many people. Just get a diary. Welp!

I like it.. I like that I can get the news reported without bias. There are enough news agencies out there who slant the news. I like to make my own mind up, just give me the facts. One thing would be helpful, I often get stories about places that are not local. They don’t give you the name of the city or state in the article so you are left guessing. For example, a recent story stated that two local eateries were closing, but I had never heard of the eateries. I had to google them and they are not in our state. That’s not exactly local. I don’t mind reading the story but if it says “local” in the headline it really should be local. I shouldn’t have to google to find out the “where”. Thanks for your service.

Far too many ads!!. Love the news, hate the ads. There are too many ads to wade through in order to read news. Wish there were an option for an ad-free experience. I’ve asked (via ad-feedback emails) for this feature multiple times. November Update: more intrusive and frequent ads makes me consider deleting the app. February 2021 update: I now see the same advertisement basically in between every single news story. Dropping to one star. Last update: I’ve sent in more than several dozen feedback emails. Never received a single reply to any of my 50 feedback emails. I’m tired of skipping every other “story” (there’s that many advertisements). Feedback for developers, after their response: Ashley, I already sent feedback emails to the address you posted. I literally never received anything back. I don’t know why you need even more email.

News break app: the strait dope and more. Great for keeping up to date with all the latest crime news and more. I haven’t found anything that even comes close to Newsbreak and a single news station app or even several local station apps leaves much to be desired especially covering multiple breaking national news stories in a single feed. Ability to add multiple locations makes Newsbreak even more enlightening and keeps me apprised of what’s happenings round me. The most annoying thing about it is is that in a single newsfeed there are multiple listings of the same story which is quite irritating. For example if I list my home city is San Antonio enter local it will bring me all the late breaking news stories and I might see the same story eight times. Just need to see the story once in a feed there is new info needed to be added to provide an occurrence unfolding and developing.

Not sure yet. I was pleased to see an app that would keep me informed about local news. And I liked getting notifications of what I thought would be breaking news. I've only had this for a short time, and just a few minutes ago, I got a message about an accident near here that harmed six people. I was about to pass the info on to people I thought might be effected by it when I noticed that it was dated 4 days ago! Definitely NOT breaking news. And I’m glad I didn't make my friends unnecessarily nervous about possible injuries to family or friends! It's fine to have older news articles about things that happened locally, but, please, don't send a notification unless it’s breaking news! I got a notification from another app that the Secretary of Labor just resigned! That IS breaking news!

I Loved It At First, But........ This was a terrific app at first. I particularly loved the ability to see local news stories. But the app gives the headlines, and a sentence or two, and then has a READ MORE, and you click that to read the entire article. The articles themselves open from a separate news source, a newspaper etc. The problem is that after 2 weeks of using this app, most of the time when I click the READ MORE link to read an article, most of the news sources it takes me to tell me I’ve maxed out on my number of free articles, and want me to subscribe to read anymore. And we’re not talking about free subscriptions, you have to pay to subscribe. So, though it’s not the fault of the app itself, the app is no longer useful to me since the news source they’re linking to for a given article will no longer let me read their articles. So sadly, I’ll have to delete this app, since all it’s capable of in my case now is teasing me with headlines from articles I can’t read.

Real journalism that brings the truth—- not just some boy readings screen selling PHYOPS. Before the corporations got rid of TRUTH TELLING WRITERS and journalists who risk there life for truth. The last of them was like on the 80’s. Now corporations own every news station and pump SENSATIONALISM to make I scared, to make u consume to make ur kids want a bunch of stuff they don’t need Boy they really thought it breaking the union up for a corporate was good but only for a hand ful at the top. I always felt that in order to truly change or truly believe u must be giving the whole truth for and how u make a true choice. This app is like that if they ring truth they will grow bigger and it will go far faster. Happy to be a reader of new not a tv watcher of poo. Ohhh Incase u don’t know what sensationalism is our military call it PHYOPS. pretty scary.

Finally the news app I’ve always wanted!. I have gone through one news app after another just trying to get a decent stream of my local news. This app delivers it. I like to see major breaking stories and keep up with what’s going on worldwide. I get that, too. I haven’t even reached into all the features and options, but I can see it will only get better. There’s a bug in the watch app. I get a notification and follow it to another like page. Click on it and I get sent to a NYC feed. I’ll check and see if I can fix that inside the Apple Watch app on my phone. Even if that doesn’t work out, still five stars all the way. It’s that much better than everything else.

This is a fake review system. No matter which star you push it becomes a five and submits it. This is a fixed or rigged rating system. My rating was actually a 4, so why did they feel they had to cheat, when that was actually a fair rating? Nothing can be trusted anymore. Candidates and corporations think about that! You can’t even trust your own polling sources. They are lying just to keep you happy and feed you what you want to hear (and I’m talking about both the public and the data source)!! I just wrote a along Editorial piece supporting mainstream media and now you do this to me? What is wrong with this country is people are trusting computers when they have all been programmed by people!!! Wake up!

Nice to get news but...not the click bate and exploitation!. Pro: I like getting news without the garbage included in live broadcasts. Cons: Click bate exploiting hot topics like a PANDEMIC. They deliberately leave out the most important words in headlines. Many times you get a headline but when you click on link to read the story it takes you to something else, either a different unrelated story or advertisements and frequently with no way to clear them to get to the actual news. Navigating to complete stories is frequently problematic. You get partial stories broken up by links to the rest of the story and irrelevant videos and ads. Often trying to retrace and start over after being mislead to other destinations leads to a different unrelated story but with the original headline. So you get to a page with the correct headline but an entirely unrelated story accompanying the headline.

Spending cuts / social security. You know it’s a crying shame The United States can send billions of dollars out side our borders to help everybody and their neighbors. Mean while the money we paid in to social security. Is being treated. If we can give a way billions out side the country I’ve got a million dollar question. Did the people who live out side our country that got paid. How about we the U.S.A help the American people out first…. WOW that mind blowing concept isn’t it….. here is another mind blowing concept… how about we take the billions of dollars and straighten our budget out instead of cutting the stuff we the taxpayers yes TAXPAYERS we have paid the government. How about we help the taxpayers for once ….

Biased, poorly written reporting. The aggravation of local news is good, but the frequent biased reporting by their own staff writers has become too much to continue with this app. Examples of this are referring to people accused of crimes as if they were already proven guilty (the word “allegedly” or “accused” are necessary ), plus calling something “debunked” without citing proof it was “debunked” (people often disagree on what is truly debunked, so that is always just opinion), speaking in declarative terms about situations without resolutions and more. The best way to put it is, the writing seems to be done by interns without any formal training. It seems as if they have people writing stories like they would write an email to a friend. It os just bad. In response to this I have both reported many stories and emailed them samples (per their request). They continue to not only present opinion blog articles and actual news, but they even feature these opinion stories in their main news feed and notifications. Some stories will not even have the three dots in the upper left corner to allow you to report a story. They are part of the reason people do not trust the media. What is worse is that they seem to not care at all. You can get all the local news you need by subscribing to your local news stations apps. They are free. This app is part of the problem.

Freezes. I enjoy this app (when I’m able to read the story that I receive the alert for). When I tap on the alert an advertisement usually for a game comes up which I have to watch prior to viewing the story however 80% of the time at the end of the advertisement I am unable to tap the “X” to opp out of the advertisement it’s like it freezes so I tap on the icon to get the game which takes me to the App Store I then tap the arrow to take me back to the News App which takes me back to the game advertisement. After going back and forth several times between the advertisement and the App Store I realize that I’m stuck unable to view the story I then delete the app and add it again. I’ve done this 3 times already today is the 4th time so I’m just going to delete the app as It is very frustrating to have to delete and add constantly. Please fix the problem!

Amazing for local news. I thought the last thing I needed was another news app with content from a lot of different sources. For some reason, at some point, I went ahead and installed News Break. I’m very glad I did. There’s good coverage of national, international, entertainment news, etc., all in a minimal, very easy to use interface. But what I’m most surprised by is how much local and regional news this app uncovers and pulls. There’s far more than I got from any other app, including from some of the original apps that News Break uses as sources. Not too many notifications either, which means I can actually pay attention to the ones I get. Overall I’m beyond pleased and have deleted the other news apps instead.

Topics .. Love your topics about politics , movies , fashions , computer science , natural disasters , and space !!! May I know : 1) Has science found a way to know an earthquake or tsunami coming , 24 hours in advance ? 2) There is a law on parent alienation, where a parent badmouthing another parent in order to take the child away ( whether that child is under 18 or over 18 ) . Maximum prison time in California is 12 months . But too many parents are unaware of that , resulting in too many mothers losing their grown-up children ! When the babies need diaper changes , potty training ( smelly ! ) , pediatricians ‘ visits , schools drop-offs , homework and tutoring , the mothers sacrifice their careers to raise them . But once those children reach 18 , as soon as the fathers give them a car , then they would disappear from the mothers ‘ sight !!!!!!!!! So unfair to the mothers !!!!! Not only losing her career , also losing her child !!!!!!!!!! No wonder women do not want to have babies these days . No wonder our country has had zero population growth . How can the economy turn around ?

App. Enjoy this app! I like that it provides local and global news, tracks what I read to curate a feed specific to my interests and updates to provide local content whenever I'm traveling! I have one tiny issue though, which is certain headlines will only allow you to read a few sentences before requiring a subscription to finish the article. Some do offer a limited number of free articles/free reads before requiring said subscription, while others ask right away. I don't see the point in having an app for ALL my "news needs" that also requires subscribing to several newspapers to finish reading articles. 🤔 but it's also just as easy to close the tab and find the story elsewhere (if I'm truly that intrigued) 🙄 as it is to complain about this issue. Hopefully that changes in the next update or two!

News Break. News Break is my favorite news app!!..i’m so impressed w/news stories from around Mich...ie..the Upper Penninsula & northern part of Lower Penninsula..stories i wouldnt know about otherwise since i live in mid- Mich..for instance i learned that the West side of the state has a school to teach people to fly a plane..i never knew that!..just recently i read a lengthy article about a secret child pornogrophy ring illionairresmmwhich is native to Mich..membership is made up of multi-millionaires in the state..seemingly having law enforcement protection..??lots of money changing hands..a few discarded dead children’s bodies abandoned in a snow bank..once i started reading about this story i couldnt stop reading..i’m so disappointed that Mich has this for its underbelly..w/any perpetrators ever be arrested/prosecuted??..thank you!...

Good app, obnoxious ads. I really like this news app. There is so much potential only being hindered by the ads. I know they are a fact of life in our digital age and affiliate marketing is a way to make money for app creators. I get it. I am not saying there should be no ads and that creators should not receive pay but lately the ads are so obnoxious that it makes me want to uninstall app. Just scrolling and not actually touching the advertisement brings up a full page ad. Then when I close the ad, app loses my place in the article and returns to the top of the page. Then I have to scroll back down to where I was at, chancing it and hoping I don’t get the full page treatment again. There are many articles that I just close and move on out of frustration. There should be ways to not ruin the experience of having the app in the first place.

Pop up ads ruin a good app.. I’ve been using this app daily to get stories that pertain to my area. The idea is good, the execution is terrible. You are inundated with so many pop ads trying to load at the same time that it makes the app unusable. You will be in the middle of a story and get kicked off due to an ad. Try to go back to story and finish it and you get redirected to home page to start over. You will also get swamped with clickbait stories. These seem interesting at first due to the Title but because they are so loaded with ads it makes the “article” a hive for disinformation. Title rarely matches the content if at all. I’m not giving up yet but I’m very close. About 20% of the “local” content actually applies to my specific area but I do still find that somewhat useful. But I’m getting very close to just deleting app. It’s just a pain to use.

Great amount of news with strong liberal bias. News Break has a great deal of strong liberal bias. I realize News Break uses outside sources for news, that said, please consider a conservative source such as the Daily Wire, etc. Fox News no longer qualifies as conservative. I really like News Break other than the aforementioned bias. I also realize the presidential administration is changing. I think it’s important to point out that 49% of the country identifies as conservative. I know several people who have deleted this app due to the strong liberal bias but I hope my comment will be heard and I can avoid deleting this mostly useful app. Also many states don’t have COVID lockdowns and many states including my own don’t require masks to be worn so getting hourly COVID updates is tantamount to getting the snow report when you live in Hawaii. The bottom line is for every strong liberal talking point can you at least mention a strong conservative talking point?

Serious problems hide good potential. This is a solidly written app that suffers from horrific editing. It’s all click-bait all the time. Nearly every headline is a variant of “Wait ’Till You See This!” Just tell us what “This” is and we’ll decide if it’s worth reading. Instead we’re treated like children who haven’t gotten past object permanence and must be fed passive-aggressive headlines to respond. I dread using it because there’s so much sewage to wade through and the leads are all buried in the clicks. The comments reveal their target audience. Very heavy on right-wing sources like Fox and Washington Examiner, etc. It’s the digital reincarnation of the National Enquirer. If you look at the advertising they attract it matches their editorial bias so they’re trapped and so are the users. If they had better story choices they’d attract better advertisers (maybe it’s ad sales force that keeps them in the gutter). But they sometimes post local news stories that are important to be aware of so I haven’t deleted the app.

This app is toxic and dangerous. I had to delete it.. This app is straight up terrible for your mental state. It bills itself on bringing local news. All I got was click bait and political op-eds designed to enrage. I got maybe one local story a day and a bunch of “the world reacts to stunning blah blah blah.” Also it’s banner ads about home mortgage are so terrible and click baity. If you want actual local news, go somewhere else. (Original Post) I downloaded this because it sold itself as an app that combined all my local news into one place. I have tried to customize my notifications and feeds, but I still get tons of nonsense and non news from all over the place. You will find that you get stories from biased sources right along side fair unbiased ones. There is no distinction between news and opinion. You will get some local news, but it’s buried in a lot of useless fluff. They need to work on their algorithm.

Could have been great (read on). So I, like so many in the world today, are looking for a reliable source for news without bias and nonsense, something that is not falling into this latest trend of “fake” news (and at least tries to be balanced). Since the Apple news app has such limited options if you don’t want ridiculous alt-left sources I tried this app. In 3 of the last 3 days I have been blasted with major story’s that seemed very serious & valid involving the government, and caused me to open the story, which ended up being 100% fake. It was almost like reading a supermarket tabloid that appeared legit and made you think something very serious happened, then once you read you find the headline absolutely was a bait and switch. This app allows the crap information to come through and appears to allow politically biased and fake foolishness to be displayed. I will give it a couple more days to ensure it’s not isolated, but the plan is to delete the app if it continues. I’m not interested in games and bs when I want news! (NOTE: I made it a few more hours and 2 more bull crap stories came through,..I deleted it then) Another thing, I like to be notified when breaking news happens, sadly this app doesn’t allow for custom sounds on the notification, so whatever your txt alert sound is will belong to this app too. Bummer!

Best All-In-One I’ve Found. Before this app, I was using Apple News. However, I stopped using it since it required me to subscribe. That’s when I discovered News Break. It has all types of news from local to national. It even has tabs at the top including “Coronavirus” and “2020 Elections”. I do find myself on the local one more frequently. I just wish there were less ads. I wish even more that they weren’t THOSE ads. They look like the clickbait ones that you’ll find on uncommon websites with cheesy titles and baffling thumbnails. I think the coolest feature is the integration of a “Police Radio” section. I live on the Southside of Chicago so that’ll come in handy. Overall it’s the best app out there for me.

App is continuing to devolve to Parlor/Rumble content. As a clipping service the app does a reasonable job clipping stories. It also allows community input through a comment section but both the comment and content sections are increasingly creating hate and discord. Parlor/Rumble fans appear to have taken over much of the comment sections and have become increasingly rude and hostile. The app also has their own authors writing opinion pieces under the Veracitor Report that claim to be impartial. These articles have become right wing narratives with the authors actively engaging disrespectfully in the comments sections. After writing this review the app has continued to devolve into a cesspool of lunatics and conspiracy mongers. Newsbreak encourages this by having "contributors" post misleading and flat out misinformation disguised to look like literature. Most of the commenters can't even understand that the articles are not journalism and have no validation. The app has become Parlor.

AWESOME FREE APP!. This is a beyond my expectation news app! I love how it feeds and notify my what is going on in my neighborhood, my county and other states! Not to mention “Classified Ads”, you can Like, Share and Comment! (No thumbs down though). If you missed your notifications and want to be updated. Just go to your “inbox” and it will show the notifications you missed. So far the app has not crash yet and it’s fast! GREAT JOB! Looking forward to a feature to be able to Listen on audio option instead of reading the text. This helps keep updated on the news if you are driving or taking a break. Adding videos would also be nice to have. Instead of just awesome pictures! :) Adding Stocks/Finance is another feature I would like to see and be able to import my broker to see my investments gains/loss.

Allowance of Blatant Racism. I love the News Break app, and found it convenient to use for local alerts in the last few months regarding COVID-19, wildfires, and local news. However it hurts my heart not only to see the overflow of racist comments. It hasn’t been one or two comments but hundreds. I understand that people have political preferences. But the outright bigotry is unacceptable and unforgivable. What hurts more is that News Break allows these comments to appear. One could say “well, maybe just don’t read the comments” “don’t be so sensitive to what others are saying” “it’s Free Speech” etc. I am often interested in seeing what other people have to say in response to the news. Unfortunately, most of these people shamelessly express so much hate. I’ve seen these comments since the day I downloaded the app back in March, and tried to forget about/ignore them for too long. Every article about any person of color, especially those which discuss criminals of minority background, feature a comment section filled with racism, bigotry and hate on MOST of the comments. This is what News Break ALLOWS. Very good app for news notification, but I can no longer support an app that makes allowances for blatant hatred. News Break, please do better.

This app rocks for local news. News break is the best app I’ve tried for getting local news. I’ve tried many, but for most of the others, that means news from the nearest large cities. I live in a rural town and finding truly small town local news news online is difficult. Yes, you can go to your newspaper’s site, but that’s just what they cover. News break grabs all three of the very small towns in my community and spoon feeds it to me. That includes special events! There’s one large issue. If you share a story, people have to download the app to read it. Sight unseen, none of my friends has, so I no longer share because they resent being sent an article they have to download an app for. I wouldn’t download it either. Most news sites allow one to go to a link on the web rather than demanding a download. Seems like a much better way to get new subscribers.

Less Than One Star. NewsBreak is like the other main stream media outlets. NewsBreak says they deliver stories from a diverse set publishers, but many of their political, medical, and COVID related stories lean very obviously to one side. This is also true when a story is about certain people and/or some sports topics. I’m tired of reading stories where the author gives no evidence for his or her perspective, but then says the other side is essentially dead wrong. NewsBreak would probably tell me that these are opinion articles. Opinion articles or not, these stories still need evidence to support them. Also, the news should be unbiased by giving just the facts. Given that these facts are correct, the viewers would then be able to make their own interpretation. Today, NewsBreak and many other main stream media outlets have resorted to discreetly and skillfully leading the reader or viewer in a single direction toward their predetermined interpretations. This is not news.

Ads covering article content.. I really like News Break and the articles that I get. I’m on this app numerous times a day, everyday. More than any other news source, this is the one I turn to. However, the only problem I have and I’ve read comments from others with the same problem, some articles have ads that are covering parts of the article and there is no way to remove the ad. It’s very disappointing when I can’t read 1/2 of the article because it’s covered. Please fix this problem. I’ve emailed, under the page for suggestions, numerous times with screen shots of examples. Nothing seems to get fixed. Please please please fix this problem so we can get back to reading all of the articles!!

Great News fix but two things. The addition of police scanner was a stroke of genius but please remove the opening audio ad I can’t stand it. I have other scanners I can use with visual ads. I don’t want to click on NYPD and immediately hear in detail some lady talking about her contraception issues. The website has the founder’s face on the home page which I can’t stand any more, please put some useful headline rotation above the fold and not the news break founders face I don’t care to see him any more. Other than that the user comments I find even better than the la times, don’t ever get rid of them. There is an immediacy about the user engagement that surpasses other news outlets.

The truth about Parler. It’s this simple, Parler does not atop the truth from getting out, which SOO many people want to see happen. They don’t want people to know about what’s REALLY going on, just whatever suits there narrative, which is simple- FAKE NEWS! On Parler you are free to be yourself, have total control of your own posts and who comments. I have been using it for a little over a month and I’m so thankful to meet soo many other patriotic people who are awakened to the truth behind what’s happening and why. We want you to think for yourself, and in order to do that you must be given all the information. Even that which you don’t want to believe is true. The truth isn’t always pretty, but there is so much beauty and love that you can’t see also because some people don’t want you to! Here you can. Here you are welcome.

Nothing but nonstop ads. This new app used to be amazing, covers all the major Outlets and you can search what you want. But it changed and now it’s nothing but nonstop ads. You can not view a story without watching an ad, the minute you open the app and ad starts. Half way through reading and an add shows up. And you can’t X out until 15-30 seconds. Will be deleting today. Maybe they will change it seems like every review lately is about nonstop adds. However they only show you the good ones which is why I have this app 5 stars so you will see it. I really rate this app at 2stars if they remove all these crazy ads, I mean it’s nonstop, then I will give it 5 stars again, but for now I’m deleting it from my phone.

Good news - Bad app. The news and localities are appropriate and interesting. I believe they are generally well written and informative. I believe they could be enjoyable if it was possible to read them, but is a vexing trial to be able to read much more than a headline and lead paragraph. The insertation of the advertisements while the article is being read makes using the app a frustrating abomination. I think of it as the app from hell, possessed by demons whose ambition it is to drive readers to insanity. Inserting the advertisements into the text while the text is being read causes the text to "jump" from the the screen requiring scrolling to relocate your reading position. There appears to me to be no logic in the direction the reader must swipe to find his/her last position. It is entirely possible to get so lost that the reader cannot even relocate article to finish it. I believe that instead of the being an app of news articles interspersed with advertisements, it is an app of fast moving, barely readable advertisements with scraps of news articles hidden among them. I had a similar app with a national news slant, and I deleted it. I will look for a new app for local news and probably trashcan this one.

Had to ditch it. Like others, I also got the blank screen following the recent update. I deleted the app and redownloaded it in the hopes of fixing the issue. It did, but I was never able to log in again. That’s when I realized that this app isn’t like a normal app, where you can just click “forgot my password” to get back in. This app is pretty much “sign up” only. I eventually did find a “forgot my password” option (in a weird place), but it didn’t let me in. It just created a new account. I was ok with the app from a content perspective, but it’s too shady for my tastes. In looking for a link to reset my password, I found other questionable practices, like a weird opt-out system to protect your data. This app seems to largely exist just to collect and sell your personal data. I recommend ditching it.

App is good, people are not. I travel often and love to use the local feature to follow my location and the hear about the goings on around me. I like the idea of the comment section, I would like to discuss things with people agree or disagree. However, the more I use the app it’s clearer and clearer no one reads the articles and people (left and right) would rather get in a quick jab at the other side than actually talk about the article. They read the headline, throw out a jab and move on to the next, not knowing that their thought had nothing to do with the articles subject matter at all. Honestly, just disable the comment section; or maybe add some sort of delay or that you have to make it to the bottom of the article page or something. It’s toxic. Again, the news part of the app is great. Social part not so much.

False and political driven news. This app is used for propagandas and their editors trying to attract the readers with bombastic headlines in a very sneaky way for instance most recent headline which cause me to delete the app and write this review was: Joe budden have COVID-19. I can understand it’s a news but publishing this headline few days before election it’s used to create stress and chaos Among the USA citizens. When the notification pops up for a second you don’t get it it’s related to someone else rather then president nominee, it drag lots of traffic over something that you may care for it but the timing is wrong. We all get brainwashed everywhere in news and ads related to the election and our subconscious mind can easily get confused with one letter different spell or a name and make us think for a moment that joe Biden is sick. Shame on you news break this awful way to confuse your readers. I’m out no more tricky headlines from you to me.

Not real news! Just clickbait and adds!. I tried this app to get news articles for a few months but the vast majority of things I looked at were either vapor thin PARTS of POSSIBLE stories to serve as cover for a clickbait title which never actually gave the information about a topic or answer to a question, just a brief paragraph or so leading up to sounding like it was going to legitimately answer and inform them to end abruptly without even a link to continue the story! Often there would be another advert link below somewhere with the same or similar title and either the same paragraph or just enough change to be separate but still no real knowledge or facts to be had! Jimmy from South Park could have been a prophet about the creation of apps and services like this piece of clickbait trash!(Im only slightly joking about that, just a touch of hyperbole with humor to cover over some of the bitterness of the bile I feel crawling up my throat at the thought of the kind of human scum who take the time to make fecal matter so vile!)

Frustrating at times.. As much as i love this app, there are a few downfalls that are quite frustrating, the search bar will not let you search and will not pull up what your searching for, Iv experienced this a lot. Also there’s no option on what to keep private on your profile besides your birthday and gender, all of your likes and comments are public. Unsure if your location is private (hopefully). The locations you select if your a smaller area is flooded with things happening hours away more than it is in your immediate/surrounding area. Also see no feature on how to get rid of your account if you were to choose to do so. This is a great app for the news and variety and that you can customize and for different areas, but does need some improving and bugs worked out.

So much misinformation. First I would like to say that I really like this app. I love that I’m kept up-to-date with my local news, and I feel that national headlines are always relevant, and I appreciate that. Lately however I cannot help but notice that most articles are flooded with COVID-19 misinformation, vaccine misinformation, election misinformation, I could go on and on. There are so many comments full of hate and racism, it’s out of hand. Is there some department that looks in to all of this misinformation, racism and hate? Again, I feel the app is wonderful for its function but I really wish NewsBreak did a better job of removing comments that are full of misinformation, racism and hate.

Great News App that just needs a couple of extra tweaks. Much better news aggregator than SmartNews. Can be personalized and localized to where you live so you get articles that you care about more. I just have a couple of suggestions that I think would be great. First, add a function for us to be able to search for a topic or article. I might see an article and then want to go back to it in a couple of weeks. It’s hard to find older articles that might have been in your feed but didn’t read. Second, add sections for world politics and for the stock market/business. It’s two sections that would be great to have that other apps have.

Was a great app. I’ve noticed over the last 3 to 6 months the app has gone downhill in its quality of news, articles, and moderation. They consistently allow misinformation and click bait from notorious publishers, such as the Washington examiner, that continuously put out false information about Alaska. The most recent I have noticed, is the app seems to thrive on conflict in the comment section, but if someone post information that is factual, but contradicts the confrontational argument, it will get removed for some reason, allowing the argumentative or false information or downright abusive comment to stay. prior to that it was a great app, especially after breaking news shut down due to NBC’s corporate greed. guessing that either they have new ownership on the app or some people that were hired as moderators or other staff have put their own slant and are thriving on the conflict and misinformation.

More surprise loud video ads? NOPE.. Just can’t deal with sudden video ads that override everything. And this time it actually made me upset. It was the middle of the night and I truly couldn’t sleep, so I gave up and decided to check the [localish] news — it’s rather boring and often helps me doze off lol. Well, I forgot to disconnect Bluetooth this time, and so suddenly I was blaring an obnoxious on the home stereo system at 4am for the whole family to hear. One part my fault, of course; but +/- 12 parts the app’s fault, if you think about the humans that built it. And that’s the sort of thing that does not get people like me to pay to remove ads! It just makes me delete your app. Check out the episode of the Hidden Brain podcast about The Obstacles You Don’t See. Seriously, just pay attention to what keeps us away and you’re golden!

Too many adds. App would’ve have been nice, but I’m unable to fully read any article since all the articles have 3-5 ads that contain porn. So, you can see that I got too horny to finish any article and uninstalled the app. NewsBreak is not the place to get your porn. For example, the last ad I saw in an article about how Ukraine had blown up a railroad 3,000 miles into Russian territory, contained a spammy ad that said “Attention Shopper, get $650 today!” and the thumbnail showed a beautiful little thing with her breasts hanging out, arms raised in the air with the largest down syndrome grin on her face and her mouth as wide as it could be, then 100 bananas were flying around her face to imitate cocks tea bagging her face. So, you can see the porno is too disruptive to be seeing that 3-4 times per article about a serious topic. It shows the creators of this app are horny 40 year old men who could care less about quality, and more about 🤑🤑🤑, and that’s the quickest way to get an uninstall kids.

Inaccurate and a lot of ads. I am not someone who leaves negative reviews. I’ve used this app consistently for a couple years now. It is excellent about keeping me informed on local news. This is the positive that allows me to give it 2 stars and I would give more if not for the negative. There are a ton of ads and getting to the actual article can be clunky/sketchy getting through the ads and pop ups. I could also overlook this, however the biggest issue is the false stories. This is not me complaining about stories I don’t like. This is me complaining about articles that appear to be real, but then have ridiculous narratives and when I go to look them up they turn out to be completely false. I would love if I could keep using this app, but can’t stand finding out that articles that I’ve clicked on are like TMZ rumors on steroids, or just blatantly made up. I don’t want to have to question every article I read.

Great idea but needs improvement. I’ve only recently downloaded this app and totally enjoyed being able to interact with other readers on different articles. Unfortunately it is too difficult if not impossible to return to a specific article and comment when someone replies to something you post on an article. I will probably end up deleting this app because it’s too much to deal with some of the harassing responses to my comments and not be able to go back to it and defend myself. I have tried sending the articles to myself vis messenger so I can keep track of them but the articles are not received even though it says the share was successful. I even tried sending one to a friend but the result was the same. When I go to my messages and tap on a reply to my comment, nothing happens.

Allows dangerous misinformation in comments. I downloaded this app to attempt to fully centralize all of the local news apps I follow. Instead, this app has plagued my phone with notifications for “local” news from 2+ hours away, and stories that are actually from my local stations are never chronological or updated. I have to wonder who is paying the developers to allow for some of these “stories” to take precedent over others. However, the most egregious error with this app is in the comment section. Imagine the most unhinged trolls from every social media site coming together to spam their political ideologies without moderation: that’s this app. I have reported countless comments spreading blatant disinformation about vaccines, illnesses, death threats, sexual violence and more, only for the comments to stay up. It’s a waste of time. I question the validity of the slew of 5 star reviews.

Cup of tea please. Aloha Cup of tea please is the first words I heard as I entered New Hampshire. Driving in from Virginia I finally made it crossing the Bridge and my radio station switched on its own with its advertising saying cup of tea please. Feeling tired after the drive and anxious to get some sleep I hurried up to my room. After laying in bed for a while I just couldn’t sleep. Came across this amazing news feed. Love it love it love it. No matter where I’am in the USA I get the best news. I have traveled and lived in all four corners of our country. And by far this is the Best News ever. Keep up the great work. Having a fire destroyed a part of my state in Maui I see and read with out all the Smoke of lies. Mahalo and continue to put out the word. Happy Day

Mostly decent news aggregate, although some content is fluff.. I typically spend perhaps 1-2 hours per day, checking the news, so I’m pretty discerning about the quality and diversity of content that I read, given that I peruse several different news feed apps and websites. I like the mix of news and articles I come across on NewsBreak, but I feel that some of the content is pseudo-news, and sometimes bordering on, in to conspiracy theory and completely false news, in some cases, which, I admit, is sometimes interesting to consider, although I’d rather indulge a more informative and divergent feed of news content, when possible. I suppose that, to a large degree, that it would be a challenging task to fulfill on a regular basis, on one hand. Regardless, I keep coming back to NewsBreak, because of the stimulating content.

Don’t read comments on articles…. It’s a great app for local, National, and global news stories. Seems to always be updating with new articles. BEWARE: there’s no moderation in the comment section and it’s filled with an unbelievable amount of racism. No matter what the article is about, there will be some form of hate speech posted in the comments with multiple people voting it to the top. It’s like 99% of the people using the comments are part of a white supremacy group. I wish there was a setting to disable comments. I’m always tempted to see how other people think of what’s happening in the world, only to find some very nasty things being said that do not pertain to the article at all. 10/10 for the news and updated articles. 0/10 for the comment section and vocal user base.
