CREEPY PERVERT CUSTOMER SERVICE GUY. I bought a new router and the directions in the box told us to download the Nighthawk app to connect the router to the internet. Well I followed the instructions in the app and it never connected. The app suggested I call a number for tech support so I called and the man that answered was very uncomfortable. He told me he had to take over my computer to make it connect which I thought sounded strange since I could have done it myself. Then he started asking me uncomfortable questions like how old I was and how I sounded so young and he thought that was “nice”. Then he asked me if I was a young student. It really creeped me out. He then told me I was taking to long and I should buy this $100 firewall and I said absolutely not. He then hung up on me after I started getting angry with him because of the way he was talking to me. This was the most uncomfortable and unprofessional customer service I have ever experienced. It was down right disturbing to be honest. This app never worked and after I figured out how to install the router myself made no since why it was ever recommended in the first place.
Disappointed with Netgear in general.. I have been using the Netgear Genie app for a couple of years. The Nighthawk app is ok, but it doesn’t have a refresh for when my kids are turning on theirs devices to be “unpaused”, so I still use the Genie app. I would really like to see all devices that have an IP address assigned to them in my device list. Then I could “unpause” them before they are actually connected. I would also like to see a time limit for certain devices. This is the concept with products like Circle. It would be nice if my router did those things so I would not have to buy yet another router to get that capability. I am aware that Circle is available on certain Nighthawk routers, but not all and the one that it is available on is far inferior to the product I have. I hate that I had to buy the more expensive model without the parental controls I wanted because the router with the controls didn’t work in my house. I fully expected Netgear to upgrade the better routers but that has not happened in well over 2 years. In all I would not choose Netgear again. There are other routers on the market that have parental controls built in and on several models. I hope to switch soon.
Great, when it works; no support. The system was much trickier to install than expected, and I had to hunt down support - truly a hunt and not nice. It worked perfectly for months, then all the sudden quit. The satellites don’t sync with the modem any more no matter what I do. And there is no one to help. You’re on your own. Since this review should be also about the app,. I will tell you the app is pretty easy to use but it does have its glitches. You can get stuck in a screen and there’s no way to get out or go back without closing the app and rebooting. UPDATE: After much scanning on the internet I found a post that explained that the satellites and router sometimes don’t update automatically, even though I selected that option. Thank goodness it posted directions on how to manually update the system. Once I figured it out it took me about 30 to locate and download the updates and upload them to my devices. This is not a system I would ever recommend. I should not have to update anything! Crazy! I wish we’d bought Orbi instead.
Difficult to hook up. No instructions on how to hook up. Cannot detect internet services from net gear app. Wry frustrated. Called tech service but couldn’t help. Finally, I read other people’s comments with same problems and follow their advice and it works: you have to turn off the modem , router and computer altogether . Unplug modem and router connection. Now, reset net gear router by using a small pin and push it into the little hole on the back of the router for about one minute. Turn on modem first and plug in the internet connecter. Then turn on the router and plug in the router from the modem connecter. Now, turn on computer. Meanwhile, turn on net gear app and search for internet connection from your phone. Your computer should now in admin password mode . Sign in with your router password. You can also change the names and passwords . Follow it through and you should have internet connection. If not, try the steps a few times. Good luck ! After that, I have great internet connection with this router. The bottom of the router is very hot. Poor ventilation. Place it on top a metal rack then should be fine .
Nice routers, bad app. I bought some new Netgear stuff to replace my ISP rental box. I love these Netgear Nighthawk cable modems and WiFi routers. But this app is hot garbage. It was a nightmare to setup the router. I thought maybe 30 minutes at most to complete the setup. But it took me two hours because of this app. It wouldn’t connect to the router because it kept saying there was no internet and no matter what I did it would always say that. The router was working with internet. Since I could see all three bands on my phone and my PC had internet the entire time. But the app somehow never detected it. So, I unplugged the router and model and tried again. Four. Times. All four had the same results. I thought “hey, this’ll be super easy cause it has an app to set it all up” Boy was I wrong lol I eventually got it to work by signing in and setting the router up through the website and not this app. It detected the internet after that but still wouldn’t get to the main screen. So I tried the setup option again. But it again, didn’t detect the internet. Then out of the blue just jumped to the main screen with my router finished with the setup. And now it won’t sign me in to let me view my router. This is the first app I’ve used that I just don’t understand what is going on in its process of things. And the first app I’ve left a review for. Imma uninstall and reinstall it to see if that helps. But I have doubts
How could such a big company…. …have so many problems in their equipment? There are so many occasions I can not log into the app at all. It doesn’t recognize the password and locks you out. Then when the app looks like it’s working it crashes before ever getting into the app. The only thing that is consistent is the internet will run through the r8000 albeit, unsecured. I’ve had the antenna split to run two different names for each 2.4 vs 5 and upon shutting down one of them there’s a complete security risk as people can still sign on and use the wifi when these have been turned off. No matter shutting down restarting or disabling the group devices are still able to log onto a network that the router actually shows as off. Speaking of restarting the router, when you reboot or update from the app it will load bogus sales screens in your face that can not be bypassed as if it’s “running” something in the background. When it finally does finish and it asks to join the network that it’s suppose to be, it denies you access. Maybe there should be less options simply because from operation to security it seems there is not much working from netgear.
Terrible Application & Product. The only reason I am giving a one star rating is due to zero stars not being an option. The Nighthawk application is catered to the newer, more expensive routers. I didn’t have an astronomical amount of money to spend a few years back when I purchased my NetGear R6220 when finishing up my masters degree, I was a college student on a ramen noodle budget. The original NetGear app worked fine However, after being forced to download the Nighthawk Application even updating the firmware on my then antiquated R6220 proved impossible. I will also mention that I am a Certified I.T. and have an undergraduate in computer science and technology. It’s not for lack of knowledge on my part. It takes a lot of persistent problems with a product for me to make a negative review but this app earned its rating. I have a hard time believing that all of these five star reviews are actual customers and also know how easily a Corperation of this size could easily send home a product with their employees and get five star ratings, or lose your job. Just saying. Won’t be purchasing anything from this company ever again and am already looking forward to making this ongoing pain a thing of the past. Buyer beware, go with another brand...
Advanced users beware. I have a pretty old R7000 that has been working well for years. I have it set up as a bridge and have saved the settings in case I have to factory reset for what ever reason. Today was just such a day. Unable to reconnect, I had to reset. After several unsuccessful attempts to access and reload settings I ended up trying to connect my laptop via Ethernet cable to access it. At this point I wanted to try accessing the router with the app and was prompted that the net genie app no longer supports the nighthawk series routers. I downloaded the nighthawk app and tried setting it up. There is only one option, access a setup router, unless you are starting from scratch anyway. The router must get connected to the modem in order for the app to access it, it will not progress past that step otherwise. I finally gained access to the setup on my laptop and restored my bridge setup and attempted to access the router in the app again. Same options as before, if you look in the help section, it’s shows bridge mode and that you can’t use the app to access the router, you must turn off bridge mode. I can’t believe this series of router has such restricted app support and no option at all for manually accessing the router or anything. Netgear, get your “advanced” app in order so advanced users can actually use it to access their routers...
Terrible customer service. The product specs are good & it was reasonable priced I purchase it at Costco, I like saving money however I don't know it's worth it for the poor customer service beware! The app SpeedTest doesn't work. The instructions said if I change the new Netgear equipment to my existing Wi-Fi name and password all my devices will find it automatically that doesn't work. Sometimes my phone and devices cannot find the Netwerk it will default to the guest network I set up and find it but it won’t find the main Network. They have weird customer service hours. Was disconnected twice and two times I said no one is available at this time. The one time I got through the queue said I was next in line and then the number continued to grow before I was connected.... for a tech company they don't know what customer service is! There was absolutely no instructions in the box my issue was I wanted to add more satellites than the two that came with the system, the app doesn't walk you through that process and doesn't appear tech-support is worth contacting .... Could not recommend the product from a customer service side....
Garbage that only gets worse. I honestly can’t believe this app is rated as high as it is. I’m on my second router with this software/app and the problems are always the same. Switch internet providers too but same issues. Once it’s set up it’s ok. Any blimp in your internet signal and the system can’t recover. Installing updates through the app, the system can’t recover. I’ve got 30 devices running my house tied to this and I every time I’ve updated I end up having to factory reset the router and reinstall every single device and it’s hours and hours. Usually takes a couple days to recover from any disruption as the system basically crashes and although the app shows it’s online with devices working, they are not. It’s never accurate. My advice it but another brand of hardware and stay far away from net gear. “Oh, you want help to fix our defective software? Pay us more on top of the hundreds you already spent”. One of the worst functioning and unstable line of products I’ve ever dealt with.
Sorry, won’t be installing this app. I used Netgear genie for awhile. After updating one of my routers, I have 5 netgear routers networked together in 4 separate buildings, one of my Nighthawk routers was not supported by the genie app. So, I thought, ooh cool I can try a new app. Well, first off it wants me to make an account online. STOP! Wait I have to create an account online to configure my internet router. 9 times out of 10 that I’ve used the genie app is to isolate an internet trouble. If I can’t use the app without internet it’s useless to me. The only reason I was even going here was my netgear cable modem/router had slowed to a crawl due to dos attacks from what the logs in the router were saying. After a day of searching online and troubleshooting it looks exactly like an issue that was posted on Netgear’s own forum about 5 years ago and as of a few months ago still had not been resolved. It appears to be some weird bug with iOS devices and IPV6 packets being misread as DoS attack packets in the router. Netgear did not even respond to it on their own forum. Netgear seems like it is becoming like every other tech company that focuses on greed more than the satisfaction of their customers. Too bad I have 5 of these things. I’ll be manually logging into them for now until I find a better alternative and will start replacing them one by one.
Reviews on iOS app issue. I’ve seen reviews that talk about the iOS app having problems I had problems with 2 days after downloading it while I was setting it up there was an option to disable remote connection which I did because I’m a lot more security conscious than most 2 days later I had issues I searched forums and did a forced update using my pc like the forums said it did nothing so I factory reset the router and started from scratch and I left the remote connection enabled and I no longer had the prior issue everything is working fine. I suggest if other’s have this issue not to over think it sometimes the easiest solution is the simplest and is the last thing you think of I know that because that’s the last thing I think of.
Disappointed. Seriously? This $250 router and this app? Why does this extremely expensive router (which was closer to $300 a few years ago when I got it) ALWAYS drop? It’s been constant since I got it. This app is supposed to connect to it and be able to reboot it from the app. That never works because when the router drops, the app won’t connect to it. I have to go to the router, unplug for 30 seconds, and hope that was enough time. Most of the time I have to do it twice in order for the router to come back online. Even when it does, the app still says it’s not connected u til I restart the app 5 times. This expensive router should not drop EVERY day and require this whole reboot crap. On top of that, every time it does drop, my Nest thermostat needs to be reset and reconfigured to the internet because the Nest says it’s not connected to the WiFi, when it actually is. When the router works, it’s fantastic (most of the time). But when it drops, it’s a hell of a time getting it back online. Usually takes about 30 minutes. Extreme disappointment when considering the cost of this item.
Lots of Issues. I have a number of issues with this app. My biggest beef with the app are the constant ads that I get in my notifications on my phone from the app. I don’t want to turn off notifications because I want to know when a new device connects. Netgear should not be using notifications to get me to upgrade or sell me a new product. (2) It takes a long long time to connect to my system even when I have a strong connection to the router. Sometimes it tells me it can’t find it, even though I’m connected to it. (3) The app often won’t show me the devices on the network. When I click on Device Manager it always takes a really long time then most of the time it gives me an error. (4) The app won’t let me turn on Anywhere Access. It used to be on, but an app update turned it off. When I try to turn it back on, it gives me an error. (5) The app won’t save the device names. I went through and named all the devices on my network so I know what each device is, but the app keeps going back to the device’s default name. It’s really frustrating. All of these issues are extremely frustrating. I even tried resetting the routers and re-downloaded the app but all to no avail.
No device control. At first I loved this app as all of my devices, around 15 in total including cameras and light switches, could be easily disconnected from my wifi if needed. I often used the “I’ll turn off the wifi” with my son to get him to do what was asked, and this still works with him most of the time. Luckily, he doesn’t know that for the past year or so, the device manager on this app no longer works and I’d likely have to disconnect my entire house to disconnect any of the devices he uses. Most days when I open the app I only see one or zero items under my device list. On a good day I’ll see about 7 devices, most with insufficient detail for me to even figure out what it is. I can sometimes tell if there are similar items of a certain number, such as 4 - I would know those are the light switches, but I’ve also edited the device names and icons countless times and they never stay labeled for long. When I first had this issue I researched a fix, none of which worked, and then thought about getting a new router of a different brand, but I haven’t yet and am still very frustrated by the reliability of this app. When I opened it up a couple days ago I saw 15 or 16 devices under my device manager, and it was like Christmas morning. That only lasted a few minutes and poof, gone again. I absolutely hate having no control over the devices in my house.
Known issues with app that NetGear won’t fix!!. I have MR80 mesh router system with current software, my IPhone software is up to date and so is your lousy app. Two weeks ago, i started getting an error and could no longer view connected devices on the router or satellites via the app on my IPhone or IPad. I’ve uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted and done everything else I can think of. Numerous complaints are logged about this issue, yet NO fix. Then, I renewed my Armor security and when I click on that feature IN THE APP, I get an error and am told to call your 888 number. I spent 45 PAINFUL minutes on the phone with someone that I could barely understand that kept telling me I can check the security scan for my devices via my computer. I don’t carry my computer around, I use my iPhone and iPad so now I’ve paid for a subscription that is completely useless via your crappy app. He had no clue what I was talking about with the Armor Security feature in the app, FYI. Just kept telling me to check my computer. Get it together and get it fixed! You know people are having problems with you app and are ignoring it!! Giving a 2 star review because at least my internet speed is still working in the app.
Not Quite Sure “Yet”. So I completed the Netgear Nighthawk Mesh WiFi 6 (MK635) setup which gets 4 stars. This replaced an Orbi Router RBR20 which was used with an Orbi Wall Plug Satellite RBW30. This combo could not adequately support 28 devices. Streaming programs would drop or take forever to load. The new MK65 gets 4 stars for this, especially having the TV Ethernet connected to one of the two satellites. No more loading issues …streaming content loads immediately. What I do not like is (1) app is missing icons for smart devices like switches, outlets, appliances. Come on Netgear, these have been around for a while, (2) after setup I went into settings and changed default WPA2-Personal to WPA3-Personal. After reconnecting to my network and going back into the app, only 8 devices connected. WPA3 is supposed to be backward compatible however this was not the case. I had to switch back to WPA2, (3) if you edit the device names and reboot, the reboot wipes out the names you painstakingly edited. I would give more than 2 stars if Netgear, big player in the market could get past the three customer experience dislikes.
Don’t give up yet. Negear did fix my Nighthawk iOS App problem. Below I wrote this review about a year ago. Just hang in there. Don't get frustrated. This App worked wonderful before the latest Firmware updates on the router. Some of you are having problems and some not. I have about 10 cases pending with NetGear regarding no access control and now device manager issues for the AX5400 RAX50 router model. Remember, due to language and cultural differences on the phone with support, there is about a 1 to 3 ratio of customer agents who “get it” and will take some sort of action right away. I may have gotten the message to the development team but we need more people to report the problem to NetGear!! Remember, the Apple App Store just posts reviews, they don’t fix stuff. CALL NETGEAR and report the complaint. Only customer complaints in high numbers will compel them to take action. That’s the way it is. For those of you who need remote access to your router in the meantime, download the “Laucher” app (tile looks like a bottle rocket with a red background tile) and use it to access your GUI. If the NetGear team is forced to correct the problem, it will work again for those of you that are affected. CALL NETGEAR and complain. Apple reviews won’t fix this alone.
Fails in a basic ways. My router is only three years old and the app fails to allow me to reset guest wifi on/off, pw and duration. Pretty lame. Yes I reinstalled phone app. Yes I tried direct Ethernet connection to a laptop and the abysmal web interface. Yes I completely reset up my router and firmware. No, these did not make a difference. No, I’m not going to buy their extortion support package. Would rather buy another brand router. (Update : NetGear reached out to help fix this and after spending considerable time documenting and then verbally reiterating (several times over to someone from a call center probably reading from a script) every step I took to attempt a fix, I was asked to spend even more time gathering event logs and reinstalling an older firmware version (and even trying another version phone for the app which is a pretty shocking request). I politely but firmly told NG rep that it is not my responsibility to do their R&D for them. Todays expectation is that a product gets debugged and reissued or consumers will just move on…as I intend to do.)
Used to work fine. This app used to work without incident right up until I tried to renew my Bitdefender software, which this router has installed when new. After a wholly unsatisfactory series of support emails and troubleshooting, the Bitdefender IT folks simply pointed the finger at Netgear and wiped their hands of the issue. No solutions forthcoming from Netgear, so here I am. No idea whether the router is or is not protected, just that it permanently displays that the subscription has expired (it has not). When the app runs well, it’s great. But that stopped being a regular thing for quite a while now. It is also super duper sensitive to every little hiccup with the router itself and needs major resets of my phone, the system and everything. Too bad. Netgear: please do something about the horrible partnership support from Bitdefender. I have no idea where the problem lies and they are pretty subpar support outfit from my personal experience. Really just step-by-step how-to readers and no more. I had higher expectations from a long history with Netgear products.
Disappointing products and app. I’m a longtime Netgear user and recently upgraded to a Netgear XR 1000 nighthawk. Using the app it was fairly easy to install the router yet I quickly discovered that armor protect was enabled by default by Netgear. I tried numerous times to disable the armor protect feature, which is an option under settings, security. The app consistently times out and gives an error message saying try again over and over and over. I called phone support and after speaking to two different people with major language challenges they were unable to help me and kept trying to transfer me up to the next level of support. After 45 minutes of waiting still no resolution, I’ve gone to the next step, which is to remove the app, reinstall the app and try it again. I’ve also found online that some people found a way to disable armor, protect after rebooting, or resetting router. Its pretty pathetic this device locks in customers to not allow them to make changes to the device. If I could give this a negative star review, I would. Period.
Nice, but needs more…. This is a great app if it was standalone. The basic information that is needed about your home network is readily available. This gives you a piece of mind to see what’s going on with your network whenever and wherever. But there are some very frustrating things that need addressed, and that is the Circle app. I wouldn’t be too upset if this was a free app, but considering that it is an expensive service that you just pay for, I was expecting more. The Circle app provides parental controls. This is great, no doubt. However, there is no transfer of data from the Nighthawk app to the Circle app. Meaning, once you set up all device names in the Nighthawk app, they do not transfer to the Circle app. This is so frustrating. The Circle app only shows each device’s MAC address and not the IP address, and this makes it much harder to get each device set up. If there was a data transfer from Nighthawk to Circle, it’d be much more user friendly. The lack of data transfer is like a car dealership selling you a year of SiriusXM radio, but your car doesn’t recognize the channel names, only the channel number. Other than that, I am a big fan of Netgear and their products. I have always used Netgear and will continue to do so.
Devices. Used to show me name of devices. Now I have to check Ip addresses of each device and manually name them. I have WiFi lights, multiple phones and tablets, smart TV’s, etc and its a pain, especially when IP address changes on each device. The only work around is manually input each device to their original IP address I named. Stupid. Ever since last firmware update to allow smart connect constantly causes multiple devices to drop main combined WiFi connection. Drops everything it changes to a different channel and takes about 5 min for combined smart connect name to reappear and reconnect. Turn off smart connect and it’s even worse. Latest update limits my option to assign devices to 2.4 or 5 bands. A lot of potential and I see where they are trying to accomplish but there’s too many bugs to be releasing and using us as guinnie pigs to work out their bugs.
Could be a lot better. Love the Nighthawk router I use,but the app could be much better. Works well enough for seeing devices on the network and disabling ones I don't want connected right then. Could be a lot better first and foremost is being reliable when I try to open the app and connecting me. Half the time when I do a power cycle or there is a power outage, when the router is back on it won't connect me to it in the app. It will say it can't be and to check the connection when it is on and working. Have to mess around by doing another power cycle or deleting and installing the app again. Another annoyance is the wifi icon will show all devices have a fair or week signal. There are no devices that show all the bars filled in green. Other things that could be better, but are not annoyances are making the app more fluid feeling and show data usage per connected device. It is nice to see the total used during the day, but would bet better to see it by device. Other than that, the app does the basics well enough, but could be better so I can use the app more than needing to use the web browser portal for anything else.
Latest Update Goofed Up Device Mansgement. We have 11 devices attached to our Nighthawk but after this last update it’s showing two, three and even four of the same connected device. For example my iPhone is showing up 3 times. The app is showing a total of 55 connected devices. A major glitch in the update. Very glitchy at best after App 2.11.6 update Can barely find the router and wouldn’t do the last firmware update OTA. I had to do it manually. Netgear really needs to get the App straightened out. Update: After this latest update the Devices Manager won’t load at all. I keep getting an error message. This function has never worked properly for me. Previously it would load the same device 3 and 4 times. Now it won’t load anything. Netgear needs to straighten out this function or remove it completely.
iOS/iPadOS App often doesn’t work when IPV6 enabled on R6700v2 (latest firmware). Feb. 9, 2020 update: Latest App now works better when IPV6 enabled, but I still often have trouble with local auto-login when starting the App. The irritating workaround for the login problem (with IPV6 enabled) is to close the Nighthawk App, turn off and on WiFi in iPhone/iPad Settings App, and open the Nighthawk App again. Of course, the other workaround is to disable IPV6 in the router’s Web interface and reboot the router (if you don’t need IPV6). The Netgear R6700v2 was advertised as supporting IPV6 but I have had irritating problems when IPV6 is enabled. The biggest problem now is that if IPV6 is turned on in the router’s advanced options (disabled by default), then the Nighthawk App on both iPhone and iPad often or usually doesn’t work or works for a while and stops working. If I turn off IPV6 and reboot the router, the App works fine. Other than this Nighthawk App, I think IPV6 works (using Web interface rather than App) although some VPN’s won’t work from the router’s network with IPV6 although newer versions of VPN’s with IPV6 support will probably work. Luckily, I don’t require IPV6 yet, and recommend Netgear router users just avoid enabling IPV6 unless they know they need it.
Not recommended at the moment. I have long experience with routers and this one (the nighthawk ax4) seems to jump off network every 12hrs this morning it jumped off network, reset itself with a new default password & network name asking me to set up the router all over again. This app told me I couldn’t connect to the router but yet my phone is connected and online. I have a smart home and i can’t even keep devices on the network long, very frustrating that I’ve reset this router 5 times in the past 48 hrs that I’ve had it plugged up! I will be returning this, i have had better results with a$69 router a paid almost $300 for this one. I bought this because I wanted a steadier flow since now I’m having more devices on the network. And in no experience doses it takes 3-4 hrs to troubleshoot a router, after what I’ve paid I won’t even consider dialing a support number. But when it is connected it does work great. Great idea of a product, fix the simplicities!, after buying a product of this magnitude for it to be a hoax it makes you question the integrity of company and it’s product!
Limited configuration, and needless account requirement. My biggest problem is the fact that you need an account, even if you don’t want remote access—and that isn’t even required for Remote Management via the web utility! The available options in this app are limited to the most basic things non-techies might need. It’s really only useful to me for turning on/off the guest network, checking connected devices, and looking at the traffic meter. It also doesn’t show the link rate for wired devices (not a major problem, but also not difficult to implement, so...) You can’t even view the logs, which would also not be difficult to implement. It shows some advance settings, but you can’t change them (DNS, etc). Virtually all other configuration still requires use of the web interface, which is a pain on a mobile device. It’s disappointing because two out of three times I want to set up port forwarding for a new computer/friends computer or check the logs. When are we going to get a full-fledged configuration app for mobile? Heck, I’d settle for the web utility on my R6260 being more mobile-friendly...
Horrible App!. The router is good and does what it’s supposed to, but this app is horrible! I continuously get logged out of the app, then when I enter my log on information it just takes me back to the logon screen. This happens over and over again, not only for me, but also on my wife’s iPhone. To fix the problem it says to reset your router, so we do that but then it just wants us to logon over and over again. I’ve reset my passwords, uninstalled/reinstalled the app, reset the router, nothing works! This app is completely useless because it won’t let us log on. The few rare times that the app does work it’s kind of pointless… at times I have up to 11 connected devices that are all listed as “unknown device“. Originally you were able to edit the names of each individual device (Jim’s iPhone, Sally’s iPad, Nintendo Switch, Bob’s laptop, printer, etc.) but now you can’t do that and every single device just shows up as “unknown device“. This makes it very difficult to manage which device you want to be connected to your router, and which you don’t. I will definitely never purchase this brand again in the future!
Doesn’t really offer much for an older router R8500. Recently updated my R8500 router’s firmware and lost the ability to name my connected devices. So I thought the app would be helpful in naming the “mystery” ip/Mac addresses on my network. After turning every piece of internet connected electronic equipment on in the house to find each MAC address, I tried to rename the ones that popped up in the app with no description. It worked, so long as I did not rescan for connected devices in the app again. Once I did that, my new name identifiers for those mystery devices disappeared. Clearly it is a flaw with the firmware since I can’t rename or classify device type in the web browser router admin page either. The one thing I needed the app for it can’t accurately execute that being connected device identification for the router. The older devices I had named prior to the last firmware upgrade, retained the name info I gave them. For anything connected after the upgrade the names won’t stick or I get an error page. Fix the firmware or fix the app.
Needs key features. So, the app does work thankfully but I have some qualms with it. This app should support all Netgear WiFi boosters. If you don’t use a nighthawk booster, ALL devices won’t show on the device list, not just what’s on the booster. Next, I do like that there are preset times to allow guest WiFi but it either needs to let you input the time manually or it should have a drop down menu like every other Netgear app has that you can select time increments of 15-30 minutes. I have my kids on the guest WiFi since my Netgear booster isn’t supported for the XR500. The XR500 doesn’t have parental controls at all, even though the advertisement says it does. It’s much better to be able to set time periods on a guest WiFi than it is to disable each device and have to look at the time constantly. I’d love to see this app to give more control since the admin is the one who uses the app. I’d love to be able to edit the devices themselves on the app. Yea I’m sure Netgear will say, get the circle app. Guys... the circle app is among the worse apps you have. It DOESN’T work. Netgear products aren’t cheap and you shouldn’t need five apps to do something basic. You shouldn’t have to pay a premium for parental controls. Netgear’s reputation keeps taking major hits because the lack of user friendly apps and trying to cash out on features that every other company gives for free. This was almost a $400 router. I’d expect to be able to use an app that acts like the $400 was well spent.
Can’t connect!. So my issue is when I first got my wifi extender the app would work then all of a sudden it would always say it cant connect to the router to disable vpn and all these other messages would pop up but idk what the issue is even though it says it cant connect to the router my wifi signal is working good so its like it is working but the app isn’t if that makes sense because as soon as I disconnect the extender I loose signal to the main router because im to far from it and when I plug it back in then i get full bars and im connected to wifi so I dont get it why does it say it cant connect to the router if i an connected to the wifi ive tried all types of troubleshooting and nothing works ive tried multiple times restarting the extender and starting from new thats the only way the app would work for that moment it works fine it says im connected to the router but as soon as i close the app and get back on the message pops again saying can’t connect to router so confusing need fixed ASAP for peace of mind even tho im convinced the extender works perfectly fine the app is what triggers me & I literally was just messing with the app right now and since it keeps saying unable to connect to router i tested my speed just to see if it did anything and sure enough it did it shows my speed and all the devices that are connected so im very confused now how all that works but it saying not connected to
Horrible app experience. App still requires you to set up an account to even use it, giving the app all kinds of permissions to mine your data. It does NOT need this level of permissions, the app is supposed give you control of your router only. A couple of weeks ago, Netgear installed the armor trial WITHOUT my permission, something I have refused to do. The web interface does not let you control armor, you have to use the app to do it, which gives them permission to mine your data. This is a despicable decision by Netgear. I refuse to use the app, and will let the trial expire. I’ve used Netgear products for 25-30 years, but I will look at other options in the future. They are becoming extremely shady, installing FEATURES without permission, requiring you to register so they can mine your dara just to use the app. I wish Apple step in and give them the boot from the App Store until they start respecting your privacy and choices. Update: Another update, still wants you to login and give permission to mine you data. All of the above review still applies. I let armor expire, after it installed without permission. I will never agree to an app that mines data. At this point I’ve given up hope they will ever change back to the way it used to work. It seems to be a conscious shady business practice at this point. I don’t understand how this app gets a 4.7 rating. The majority of reviewers give it 1 maybe 2 stars. I’d give it a zero if I could.
R7900 nighthawk router Device names. After this update to the application, both nighthawk app and genie no longer recognize any device names. If you try to add a device name to the IP address, it will add the name of the device you added to multiple different IP address is that do not have a device name on it. It changes The device names if on there as well when you try to add them to another IP address. Developers, please check your program quoting as something is missing that prohibits you from adding that device name to the IP addresses. Unfortunately next year does not offer direct customer contact support and steers due to their neck your community for answers from other customers and users. That is not a good quality customer support from a company of the size as many users aren’t aware of how the product was developed or how it is programmed on the software.
Router functionality. I have had this router for about 6 months and absolutely love it when it works. The app is nice cause it allows me to easily see what device is connected and which is not. I have Charter and they offer speed however their modem had issues and it took 4 service technicians to resolve the incoming line/issues which is what lead me buying a new modem. The internet will be fine and functioning however the router will be offline or randomly disconnects a device. I’m far from an I.T. technician but believe that this router needs a software update of setting correction. I have heard positive reviews of this router and it was about $200 so I believe mine is/has something wrong with it. Once you reboot the router it works fine for a day or two but I would honestly say we reboot this device at least 3 times a week. It’s great when it works but a hassle when it isn’t.
Extremely slow app. Either this router’s processor speed is low or the network it seems to default to often is slow. Simple tasks to access the settings in the app, including checking which Wi-Fi band is being used take an extended time. My last router was a step up from this and the difference is notable. The features of this app are nice and I will be keeping this router as it plays nicely with my modem of this same brand. My router was from a competing band, while I haven’t downloaded and used the app, I notice performs better, at least the site for the login/settings for the router does. There are far more options for settings in the competing router. The biggest difference with the other router I would say, which this one lacks, is that the main settings offer a VPN. Word to the wise is if you don’t already have one, get a surge protector WITH a cable line input and plug the power cords from both the modem and the router into the outlets, especially if your area is prone to storms. It’s not just storms though. Electric companies can also cause power surges. Don’t learn the hard way like I did!
Erratic at best with iPad and iPhone. During the set up of the devices, at the end, the screen goes white and the app freezes. Have to close it and re-start again. Then, when trying to set up a second device, the app sometimes doesn’t recognize the user or password (and I know I was writing the right one because have the view password on). Later notice that if I leave the option “remember me” on, the issue with recognizing the password doesn’t happen that often. Then, once the two devices are on, the mapping doesn’t use the assigned name given to the devices to the graphic in the map, making very difficult to know to which device belongs the information shown. Would be nice that rather than the map shows just the generic name/type of the extender, it adds the name given to it. Then, with only one device, the list of the connected devices can be obtained relatively without problems. Once two devices are connected, sometimes the list is given, sometimes it is not given. Error message is shown. By the way, the instructions to recover the password in case you forget it are useless unless you have a PH in computing. Not good for a product aimed to the general public. Not good Netgear. You could do much better.
The App Never works- DON’T BUY A NIGHTHAWK. This is the biggest piece of junk! The app log in as admin never works. The ability to control via the app was the whole point of purchasing this device, so that we could monitor and control what devices had WiFi. We had the device for a year before we swapped out equipment from spectrum in order to use the Nighthawk Router that was purchased. When we couldn’t get support on the initial set up without paying $100+ for extended technical support, given that we were out of warranty, we spent 3 more hours getting it set up. Finally, after the initial set up, we have continued to have issues logging into the app and still can’t get in today. The website that we were told to use now says our information is being sent unencrypted and is not a secure website when accessing it from my iPhone. Save your money and go with a different device unless you want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on technical support, which at this point, seems like it was done by design.
Barely functional app for barely functional products. So I’ve been using this for an AC1200 range extender/access point. Apart from the complaints about the hardware resetting itself the issue comes with the set up of the extender. An update or two ago the functionality to rename the broadcasted network from the extender was removed or simply doesn’t work in the app. This meant I could no longer use the dual band frequencies as both the 2.4 and 5 frequencies were named the exact same as my home wifi network once my device reset itself again, meaning my devices were getting clogged from trying to connect to 3 separate wifi networks. Often the app is unable to find my Netgear devices despite sitting a foot away from the extender meaning firmware updates are unreliable and often interrupted. Not to mention the general unfriendliness of the UI, lack of customer support, and extremely outdated support articles that all said to bypass the app by going through a webpage that has recently been removed. The app is useless just like every Netgear product I’ve personally had the misfortune to use.
After new update speed test doesn’t work now. After new update speed test doesn’t work very important to see if cable company is giving what you are paying for please advise and fix ASAP or I may have to give two stars instead of five being you team should have checked all things involved on update to make sure we do not have to write you about something not working. You routers are sold as high end and a little pricey to have issues like this and yes it’s the little things Like the speed test not working after last update which as you say to make sure cable company’s are giving us what we are paying for . I have two nighthawks one 7800 the other 6900 I did update on 7800 Speedtest not working 6900 I did not do update speed test still working so please fix ASAP
Why even bother? Who is this app for?. All I want to do is check for a firmware update and this app seems unable to even do that. This is why so many go to custom firmware as these “apps” to run routers are made for a soccer mom so when they don’t work the user feels its their fault. Just stop! When you make an app with such a lack of quality it makes me wonder if you are either going out of business or want your router to fail after a year with such poor support. This is a $500 top of the line router and the app is such garbage that I would fire all the devs and find some high school hackers and pay them in weed as I am sure that would get a better results. If this app was made in Japan the devs would have suicided themselves for bring such shame for being a lazy and worthless app into the world. I really hope someone reads this and decides to stop making apps that just DO NOT WORK. Take some pride in your job as if this is what you are doing with your life you are making the world a worse place.
I was enjoying it until…. Now I see what everyone is saying about the app. I had it for a couple months, no problem. And then it tells me to update the firmware and i’m like “umm my firmware is up to date.” Let’s just say I was being given the runaround until someone actually helped me understand it much more clearer. This is what was told to me by a rep “as per check here, your firmware is the latest in accordance with the Spectrum Approved Firmware, however, this firmware does not meet the minimum firmware required to use the Nighthawk App.” And yes, I do have Spectrum as my service provider. I asked the rep do I have to worry about this and was told no and was recommended to delete the app since there is no point in using it. I would love to have give this a 5-star rating but sorry no. I would think this app would be applicable for ALL nighthawks, at least thats what I thought. It does seem weird but I guess it makes sense??? I don’t know. I have no clue. I have better control using the Netgear Genie app.
Failed to Provide Seamless Setup. The app failed to connect to the wifi during the set up process. The screen immediately after choosing the new network ID and password failed. Note that I had just set the network name and password and at this point in the process and the very next screen the app failed to connect. It threw three different errors before finally directing me to connect via settings on my iPhone. I went to Settings -> Wifi and found my new personalized network name and copied and pasted the password, the same password I had just copied and pasted from the app—it’s wrong! How’s that possible? I thought I had eliminated human error by copying and pasting, but I received the first error before ever entering the password—extremely irritating as I had to reset the modem router to factory settings and do it again. This time I didn’t customize the name or password in the setup and it worked. If you think I messed up entering the password, read this again. I created the password and on the very next screen, before I ever re-entered it, I was already receiving errors and I was never able to login. Netgear, seriously, stop producing this junk—it’s embarrassing from a technology company.
Annoying and Problematic. We’ve used a net gear router in the past and back then we had no problems. But we had that router for a while and it was getting a little old and beat up. So we decided to buy a new router, one that would support the family better now that we have kids with all sorts of gadgets that require wifi. I remember setting up the old one when they didn’t have an app and it was very easy. Now that they have it switch over to that app, where you’re basically forced to download an app to set it up. I was fine with that. I made an account and tried to connect the new device but it says it won’t connect or it can’t find it. No problem, I’m sure I can find out what the problem is on the website. I try everything it says to do if it’s not connecting and it still doesn’t connect. I’ve been trying to fiddle with it for multiple hours. We have wifi but I can’t connect it to the app to personalize or to control it. What is the use of an app that doesn’t work… The next router we purchase won’t be netgear. $200 down the drain.
Useless Application. After few Neatgear Nighthawk app software updates nothing works!!! My MR60 router and two MS60 satellites are not showing any devices connected other than wired via Ethernet cable. Two MS60’s are connected; one to i-Mac and other to Apple 4kTV, however are showing being directly connected to the router! None of devices connected via Wi-Fi are showing on either router of satellites, however are connected. Until a couple of days ago I was able to delete the newer app and download an older version. Everything worked fine until the app automatically converted to the newer version. I’m certain that my problem is the application related. What a joke the Neatgear engineers!!! Updating to the newer firmware version for the router and satellites is next to imposible. Can’t use tech support because it expires after 90 days from purchase and the subscription will cost you! The equipment is a little over one year old and can’t call Neatgear to help resolving issues they have created! WARNING: Please stay away from purchasing any of the NEATGEAR products. They only care about $$$ and after a purchase there is a ZERO tech support on their products. It’s how once good company go under! They are totally ignoring customers technical support and resolving issues created by themselves. It’s so sad and so unprofessional!
Needs lots of work. This app is very spotty in its reliability to work. Often times I can’t even log in. When you do log in the app is very limited in what it can do. You can check speed and see what devices are connected and that’s about it. The connected devices screen is highly inaccurate as it will show different devices each time you check it. When you try to change the icon for the connected devices, the app freaks out and freezes up. Last time I tried to do that it asked me to log in with my admin credentials but when I enter the password it does not log in and keeps saying it has timed out. I can no longer use this app because it now won’t let me do anything until I enter my admin credentials, which doesn’t work. Even when you click on app support in the App Store, it takes you to netgear’s support website and after indicating your issue is with the app, it still asks for a serial number and will only provide support if it has been less than 90 days from purchase…for support for their app…I can no longer use this app.
Used to Work Well…Now It Doesn’t Update Firmware. I have an R7000 (ac1900) Nighthawk router purchased in late 2017. The first few years I was very pleased with it operation and this apps support. However over the last year I started experiencing more and more internet drops. Since this app said the router firmware was up to date, i suspected ISP issues and spent months debugging. I routinely have used this app to check for updates to the router firmware which worked well for the first few years. However I just realized today that the app has stopped finding and installing firmware updates! I check the Netgear website and find there had been numerous firmware updates that this app still reports there are no updates. This is worse than no app at all and proliferates old, out of date firmware in countless routers without users being aware. This puts Netgear customers at risk of new attacks on their networks. Netgear please update this app to have the app check for and install the latest firmware updates. I’m very disappointed in Netgear over this issue. I will look elsewhere for my next modem and router after this frustrating experience.
Very disappointing. I’ve had trouble with the NETGEAR router and nighthawk app since purchase in June. Worked with their support team for so long that I can no longer return product. Problems have differed and been intermittent which makes it a challenge to solve when it’s only one product but I’ve had trouble with both the router and the app. The beta version of router firmware (now rolled out to all) seemed to clear up actual dropping connections with devices. Nevertheless the nighthawk app continues to not show all devices connected. For example I can tell that my roku or computer are receiving internet signal from the router yet the nighthawk app doesn’t list these as connected. For the record all of my devices are only connected wirelessly- that’s the point of having a router! Additionally, there are times when the connected device list will list a device then it will disappear in a matter of seconds. I’ve gone through so many reboots and reentering passwords to get all my equipment talking to each other that I can’t count the hours lost. I’d advise buying a different brand.
"Effortlessly Manage and Monitor Your Network with Nighthawk App". As an avid user of the Nighthawk app, I can confidently say that it is one of the best network management apps out there. The app is extremely user-friendly and offers a wide range of features that make it easy to manage and monitor your network from anywhere. One of the standout features of the app is the ability to set up and manage your network with just a few taps on your smartphone. With Nighthawk, you can easily configure your network settings, create a guest network, and even set up parental controls to keep your kids safe while browsing the internet. Another great feature of the Nighthawk app is its real-time network monitoring capabilities. With the app, you can easily view your network's bandwidth usage, connected devices, and even monitor network health and performance. This is particularly helpful for those who rely on their network for work or entertainment and need to ensure that their network is running smoothly at all times. Overall, I would highly recommend the Nighthawk app to anyone who is looking for an easy-to-use and powerful network management tool. Whether you're a tech-savvy user or just someone who wants to keep their network running smoothly, this app is definitely worth checking out.
This app needs more work and improvements. Their firmware has broken all Netgear nighthawk devices making them totally a mess. I’m using modem, router and WiFi extender I asked them to replace the extender and I’m still having crazy problems with connection to no internet at all the problem is the last firmware is impossible to avoid they pushed it and you have to update even you don’t want to. You paid top dollars for products that are trash! Unbelievable I thought that by replacing the extender it would work but nothing... you call CS which is confusing because to all of them I did explain that the firmware is the problem not the WiFi, but they don’t listen... modem, router everything was just fine after the update it broke all my network also the app tend to write devices names incorrectly or doesn’t even show them. I hope engineers/developers behind this app and software look after customers. I guess the app should do basic stuff with no big issues... it seems like they can’t fix the app+software. Netgear should look into this and get more serious about pushing useless updates.

Nighthawk Mesh System MK63. Useless system - speeds were fine. However I only realised after a week that I could no longer handoff playing audio to any HomePod. Then I realised I couldn’t AirPlay to any TV! Yes, this system blocks required network traffic for AirPlay. Ridiculous. Tried many settings, tried earlier firmware - the latest firmware (last august!) has UI bugs in the web interface for the QoS setup - you click a machine to edit the priority manually, and you get a different machine! Anyway, unfortunately let down by these issues and I returned the system for a refund. No real way to contact support either, simply unacceptable.
Requires Account - But.... Ok, I had a rant when this app first came out because it replaced Genie and requires a Netgear account where Genie did not. I’m against creating accounts with vendors unless it’s for a very desirable service or one that you must have. As it turns out, for me, the Netgear service with this app fits into the “very desirable” category. That said an account with Netgear is still not necessary to provide external modem access. I remain unhappy about that. Now that I’ve had my rant I can say that the app is very good. It has worked flawlessly for me and provides all the basic features you’d want to control from your mobile device. This includes checking network details of connected devices and disconnecting them if desired, router updates and reboots, managing parental controls and more. It is also presented in a very tidy looking user interface. So, it’s four stars from me. The minus one is because of the need for an account, without Netgear having justified why this is necessary.
Loyal customer. I have had a nighthawk product for years it was top of the range then and so when went replace it when it died 8 yrs later there was only one choice and one again totally impressed
Netgear. I like the interface design it’s simple to use, the old app had the ability to name devices which made multi use households much easier to navigate as I often turn off internet to naughty kids.. now it’s a guessing game of iPads.. I would like to see that back in future updates and also a time management feature, so eg a certain device can have one hour of internet use before it automatically turns off.
Premium product, sub par user experience. The apps form validation was terrible. Got stuck multiple times through the setup process when everything with the router was configured correctly. I hope the experience is smooth from here on in, else I have lost faith in this brand. However I must say, the internet speed is pretty incredible.
Worst app I have ever used!. This app is probably the worst app I have ever used, its got so many bugs in it. The authentication is horrendous. It continually times out whilst you are half way through logging in or the login mysteriously fails one time then just when you are about to try again it decides that it hasn’t failed and lets you in, but then the app crashes and you are back to the beginning. Once you have managed to log in it randomly finds or doesn’t find your router. When it does find your router none of the features work. When you install it it asks you if you want facial rec turned on but it doesn't actually use it to allow you to log in. I’m amazed at how this is allowed to pass for a piece of software and be allowed on the App Store. I have seen Russian casino app that are more stable and better put together than this rubbish. Problem is there isn’t another option because I have the netgear router I have to use it. Only thing worse than this app, the web version they put together.
Such rubbish software. I’m pretty experienced when it comes to network equipment, this one is a massive step backwards for Netgear. I had to reset the device multiple times, the app is ridiculously braindead, I had to change to the 5g network just to get the app to recognise that it was connected to the net. Older Netgear stuff was great, this new gear and app is terrible. Buyer beware.
Absolute garbage. Since the latest update, early 2021, the app has stopped working. Constantly claims that my device is not on the network, which it is. Got to love when they “improve” software by absolutely ruining them! I’m sure it works fine for the boffins at Netgear. Update - as of the Apr2022 update, the issues continue unaddressed. Extremely disappointing Netgear!
Useless. This ought to be a good app, but in order to use it you first have to give personal details, then register, then open an account, then register your device, then sign in. Each time with a new password and trick questions. At the end of that it tells me I have got the wrong password and don’t know my own personal details I put in five minutes ago. Now it won’t let me do anything, including update the firmware. Netgear have gone mad
Hit and miss.. I have used this app a few times to set up my network. While everything connects it works amazingly. The second something doesn’t its a factory restart and start again. Also extremely difficult to connect and troubleshoot extenders.
Worked for a few hours then stopped working. I used the app to set up a wifi extender. It worked the first time . Then within a few hours the app stopped working . I tried to sign back in but it just wouldn’t work . I had tried turning on and off my phone and my router , deleting and reinstalling the app. But no matter how many times I tried it just wouldn’t connect . Very disappointed.
Doesn’t work for Netgear extender. I had to sign up for an account, verify, turn on Face ID all to just set up a basic netgear extender? And the extender webpage actually said I had to install this app to set it up. But the app REFUSES to let me access the Extender? It’s and endless loop of “connect to Netgear_ext”...followed by “can’t connect to Netgear_ext”. The app does nothing at all, it can’t see or connect to the extender. Why on earth would the webpage for the extender promote this app when the app simply can’t/won’t ever connect to the setup network? I don’t own any other Netgear router, so why did I have to set up an account, sign in and download this app? Does nothing, no amount of hard resets on the extender help. I give up, won’t be buying any Netgear routers any time soon based on the failure of the extender and the total waste of time of an app. Really unhappy about
Atrocious customer support. I’ve had nothing but trouble with a non-functioning app and had no success with 24/7 support.I’ve been waiting for a week for someone to come back to me and have spent hours on hold on the farm at trying to get it working. I’ve brought the Router back and changed to TP link.I’m still within the trial period of the app however I have paid for the full version and now I’m having no response from anyone in relation to a refund for the money I paid for something that doesn’t work
Easy Setup Easy to Use. Simple plug in to modem follow the setup instructions and your done. Have given names to all devices on the network so I can easily see guests and devices that don’t belong and set the priority of network access for devices. Very simple interface.
Nighthawk nightmare. Took numerous attempts for the app to finally identify the correct product and it connect they way it says in the instructions on the app. You have to hit WPS on your router and the extender first. Frustrating but after I’d worked that out after a google search it connected straight away.
Doesn’t show connected devices since last update. It was an informative application. However, it shows now only 1 wired device rather than quite a few wireless and wired devices connected to the router. Also, I can’t change “filter” option to all devices, it is set to wired only. I’ll review my rating providing application becomes functional and usable with (hopefully) new update
Frustratingly poor application. Awful application. Have rebooted it several times and still does not enable me to login after I have a valid account which works on my web browser. My login details are correct. Won’t connect to my extender either, just appalling. Wasted precious time and money trying to use this app with the netgear extender. Based in Australia and support poor.
Attached devices not showing. Was a great modem/app until the latest firmware was installed. Now I’ve lost control of what devices are permitted to have internet. How am I suppose to control the kids screen time without control of the wifi. Very disappointed…
Control on my phone. Love having the app to control everything via the phone. Only annoyances are the continuous asking for subscriptions but apart from that 5 star
Possibly too early to tell. Early days, but so far so good. The app simplified syncing the 𝗪𝗶𝗳𝗶 extender to the hub. Currently only shifting it twice since boot up, before happily working. Relatively effortless so far.
Hopeless. The app remains in a vicious cycle of crapness. I can not access my own router. My family all have access but I am blocked. it will often gaslight my daughter by telling me her daily limit has been reached and it has not. My other daughter gleefully continues online well after her daily limits have been used but it doesn’t stop her. It makes zero sense and does not work. Now I am locked out of it and I am blocked from basic things online. I spent a significant amount of money to achieve 2 things: 1 ensure my internet network is good because we live in a mobile data blackhole so rely heavily on home internet and 2 be able to manage my children’s online activities. Speedtest consistently tells me that my speed is excellent. And checks to see if there is an outage in our area confirm there are none. The product and the app are abysmal. I’d love to use some more colourful language to tell you how I really feel and would love to rate it zero stars
Amazing product. I have been using this for past 4 days now. I would like to say it is pretty good at what it does. I like the simplicity of the setup and convenience of the mobile app. It let’s you manage devices and scans every time a new device joins your network. Vulnerability scan is doing a good job. We had to convert our previous modem come router to bridge and then connect, once connected it works seamlessly.
Absolutely horrible- don’t waste your time. App drops all information including logins and registers all your passwords as being ‘part of a security leak’. Interface is clunky and forgets login details, then hangs up after 30 sec usage. Has caused endless interruptions in internet. If you’re reading this and still have your ‘WiFi extender’ in its box take it back- it’s honestly not worth the trouble. Buy another product.
Great outcome. Took me a while to get hooked up upstairs but after a long start, it was a great outcome. What did I do that wasn’t in the instructions: I needed to come down closer to the existing router to get all the settings in cache. I used the WPS a setup to speed things up (rather the the app). Once connected - I could then set up all my devices using the app. Then I went back upstairs and everything just connected easily. Have I increased my wifi speed five fold. Brilliant
Great app for complexity of devices. It’s never easy setting up network devices - just set up an extender using this. Was reasonably simple (as it can be). One hint: when you setup, don’t have ANY other devices on the network (includes TVs etc…) as it seemed to disrupt the setup right at the end, so I had to factory reset device and re setup, which worked a treat 😀
App stopped working. Installation went all fine. The equipment was working fine. I logged into the extender AC1750 on the web page and made a couple of changes and now the App has stopped working with message unable to connect. But the whole App no longer works. No access to devices, or internet speed test etc. So frustrating. So now I will try delete the App and re-install to see if that fixes the problem.
Looks good, but lacks functionality.. I find settings much easier using the web interface. You have to search to find things and there appears to be a lot less options. I can’t update device info. I have devices with no name. When I try to edit I get the message ‘sorry the action was failed. Please try again.’ It is an R8000. Disappointing really.
This new App broke my router. I have been using Netgear genie for years with up to 22 devices connected in my home and it worked flawlessly. Since being forced to update to this app the router won’t connect new devices, and all current devices drop out multiple times a day and some have to be restarted to reconnect. The google home hub has disconnected every single day for the last 3 weeks. The Xbox disconnected 8 times in 30 mins last night. I have now turned off the router and connected everything directly to the optus modem and it is all working perfectly again with no drop outs or disconnects on any devices. I tried many restarts and updating firmware (which it said there were no updates). Bring back netgear genie - it always worked perfectly.
Still no fix. Another update yet still the device manager doesn’t work. No way of knowing what devices are connected to it. A long term and well known problem that they do not seem at all interested in fixing making people go elsewhere. The error message “sorry the action was failed” believe the grammar or not
Improved but …. New firmware for iPhone 20 Sep 22 and can connect to router again from remote location. Thanks. At the moment we have to reboot nighthawk every night for one minute or it jams. Let’s see if this fixes it. —————- Will Set up from an iPad and all going well until asked to connect a cable to the router? How does that work? So had to connect a MacBook and do it from them once I had logged into the router so ease of install was looking good but it wasn’t. App never even asked to insert the SIM card so did not but browser connect by cable did. FW upgrade worked well which is a major improvement from previous delink model which always failed upgrades. So 3 stars only.
Easy to use. I used the Nighthawk App to help install a Netgear Mesh Extender and it made the job super easy with a few simple steps. The only thing worth noting is this, after you plug the device in and turn on the power, wait a good few minutes before launching the App. If you try to early, the setup process doesn’t automatically start the way it should. Be patient 🙂
Great app. This app is awesome, easy to use & lots of info at your fingertips. Would recommend getting this app if you buy & use a nighthawk router.
Smart Parental Controls stopped working. The smart parental controls just stopped working on the app after the latest app update. The SPC was running fine over a year until 24 April 2023 when it stopped logging and blocking all devices in all profiles setup. My Netgear RAX20 firmware is up to date (no router changes since problem) and has been reset several times. The app has been reinstalled on both iPad and iPhone devices with no fix. Netgear support level 1 & 2 have found no resolution to this. Now unsubscribing from SPC service.
Good app once the router has been setup manually!. I couldn’t automatically set up my router using this app and so I spent an hour on the phone with support with my RSP to resolve the issue. I had to set up the router the old fashioned way using an Ethernet cable and a laptop. After it was setup, using the app was a breeze. It has limited functionality (you will need to log on to the router’s config page using a browser to do things like set up port forwarding) and, it tries to sell you subscriptions but apart from that, it is quick and easy to use.
NETGEAR nighthawk Rax 80. NETGEAR consumer products are overpriced it sounds American but their quantity is like a children’s toy very poorly made cheap linear low density plastic instead manufacturing a harder gorilla tough product. Flip down wings are soft hollow I gave 5 star for the sake yankee brand. If comparing to tp-link archer VR2800 this has a better value for money and it has better performance. NETGEAR research and development is outsourced.
Garbage. App forgets login seemingly by random. It hangs waiting for up to 30 seconds just to load the WiFi settings menu every time. For some reason 5GHZ WiFI settings only appear half the time. Initial setup of router useless. Wouldn't detect a internet connection while waiting for ISP to kick old connection so I couldn't proceed with setup. Have done 99% of setup through web interface, which is abysmal compared to anything else I have tried. Using with a brand new Nighthawk RAX20. 5GHZ band is useless even within 5m of router. Will be returning it ASAP.
A brand new extender wont link to this app. How ridiculous a brand-new extender won’t talk to this app effectively. I’ve given up after 40 minutes of trying to work through the app not recognising my router and it’s correctly inputted password. Hundred percent do not recommend. Two different devices and reinstalling on one device with no luck. Also do not appreciate being told to be calm when a chat support person tells me to stick metal into a device plugged into 240 volts. Chat support person tells me it’s a known issue and that I should be using the web interface for my router. There were no instruction indicting that this was a preferred method for getting the extender to talk to the router. Netgear, some fine tuning of customer script is needed for your support personnel. Assuming knowledge and telling some to stay calm are not good customer service.
Great 👍. I’m glad to have a NETGEAR Extender help me get a connection with network in my room, just two weeks ago I have issues with the connection between my room and the NBN network, now I’m having a great wifi network connection and thank you for the technology from NETGEAR extended.
Nighthawk Mesh WiFi 6 System with 2 Satellite Extenders. Found this product easy to install with the Nighthawk App. Fast speeds obtained and system extends to adjoining villa with strong internet speeds. I recommend this product. However the Speedtest option stopped working after 3 months. Mintotiger
Nyreba. Very easy to install Don’t need any extender in our large double brick house. Great Router had others but didn’t do what this one does Really great product and price Highly recommend
Needs Fine Tuning. The app generally works well, but it’s feels a little slow, even on the 12ProMax. The interface is simple, but lacks a bit more fine tuning. The device list is handy but needs a few more different icons to choose from to help customise and future troubleshooting. One gripe I really have is that the router tries to guess what the device is... please stop this, it gets it so wrong. After I added all my devices I noticed that it seemed to label a lot of the devices the same, making it difficult to find what the device is. FYI, the app kept saying I was disconnected from the router (I wasn’t, I tested it and also the wifi symbol stayed on) but when I turned off the iPhone setting ‘wifi assist’ this issue stopped. (My speed test was 53Mbps at the time so I know my connection was good).
Fast speed without fail.. Faultless fast speed router, I’m getting over 100gbps on cable which on the NBN network I’d be paying an extra $50 for this speed. Only problem I have is if you buy it from someone it’s almost Netgear make it extremely hard to register in your name and make it hard to change ownership. Apart from that it’s a great product and I’m looking to upgrade to the Nighthawk X10.
Update is terrible. Bought a 2nd net gear as I liked the app so much but with new update there’s subscription features I have no interest in and can’t turn off. net gear sent me an email about a 1week anniversary with one of the free trials I started. All I wanted was to turn off device access to the internet in one touch and now it’s 2.
Bring back genie!. Has its glitches but works ok in general... so long as you’re in range of your router. I’m mystified as to why I must log in with an email address and password though? A pointless feature it would seem.. or is it? Even in doing so I am unable to access my router when I am not home. I would have thought I’d at least be able to do this? Also, every time I do log in, it persists to ask me to activate location services. It seems to want to know where I am at all times? And if I haven’t opened the app in a while, I always have to re-enter my email address and password. An invasive and badly developed app. I have no idea why they threw out genie for this trash. My nighthawk is a great router, but I’ll definitely be trying a DLink or something else next time. It wouldn’t be hard to make a better companion app than this one.
Good product, fast set up. There are a few issues with networked devices and casting that could be improved. However, the hardened security, fast set-up and excellent coverage are just excellent. The system makes great use of our bandwidth. The app could expose more advanced features from the browser, seen on other devices and hover guides would help.
Simply Cannot Recommend. Not recommended as a brand or product. Support is non existent. You have to pay for support after 3 months. That is when you need support. The software is watered down and all the useful features in DumaOS has been disabled. No VPN Hybrid as advertised. Cannot configure the function on the router to block DNS (like Google). Overall a big regret and disappointed.
So easy to use. It is my fist time to set up the wifi router. I have little idea of how the whole thing fit together. This app provides clear and easy to follow instructions. I have set up the router without any help.
Admin login is a pain. Hope you remember your admin password, cause if you don’t and if you own any device other than a router then you won’t be able to reset it, or change it, or do anything with it. And if you can’t remember it then your own owned products are useless to you cause you can’t access any of the settings
Not worth the $$$. Text to help feature is useless. Every time I ask for help I get told they have no tech services / staff available. Spent $500 on their Nighthawk and they can’t even give 5 minutes of their time. Also, the wifi range I have without the nighthawk is better than the range I have with it.
Persistent problems with 2.4 GHz. Continue to have problems with the 2.4 channel - as seems to be the case for many people. The 5.0 channel is fine, but we have a number of devices which cannot use it. Nothing seems to be available to fix the problem. Very frustrating!

Excellent router and app. Exceptional router 5 star and app
RAXE300 Tri-Band WiFi Router. For those nearing 60 years old the setup was easy and the results fantastique. Much easier then my last router as this can be accomplished on ones cell phone. I very much appreciate the thoughtful manner in which the setup was designed.
Poor wifi. Everyday my wifi is inaccessible , must unplug my router. Very unreliable router. Very disappointed with my Nighthawk!
App does not work. Speed test on app does not work. No schedule option for when to turn off router.
Fails to load device list. Now that it has stopped loading the device list, I can’t unblock my son’s iPhone and Chromebook from the internet. Going to set fire to the router, delete the app, and try a new provider.
Bad uploads. Device not sending proper upload speeds
Extremely slow interface. There’s a 5-10 seconds loading time between each screen. How can such a big company botch an essential app so bad
Parental controls consistently changes profile devices and device names. Parental controls consistently changes profile devices and device names. I’m not sure how this keeps happening. Upon initial setup I literally had to disable wifi on each iPhone in the house in order to identify who’s iPhone was connected to assign to a profile. Device names change. They appear to change which profile they’re attached too. And there’s 80 apple devices that have connected which I’m sure my household has not owned that many from the beginning. Besides that the router is only 2-3 years ago. Likely not going to renew any subscriptions. And look for a different means of parental control.
Worst app ever. Everytime i launch it i get signed out .. and when i enter the admin password i cant login .. what a stupid app
Easy to use.. The Nighthawk app is well laid-out and is fast and easy to use.
Problems with password and guest wifi. I tried logging in today using the same credentials that I always have and it didn’t work. The only way to fix this was reset my modem. There should be an easier way to reset your password (and it doesn’t make sense because my password didn’t change, it’s not like I forgot my password). So after restarting my modem I still couldn’t find a way to reset my password if this happens again in the future. Looks like the only way is resetting your modem. I looked online and the steps I found about resetting your password either didn’t apply to my router or I’m too dumb to figure it out. And when I try to create a guest wifi network, I’ll put in the wifi password that’s required to log into the network, but when I click save and net gear creates the guest wifi network, there’s no password required to access the guest wifi. Anybody can access the guest wifi network with no password. No idea what I’m doing wrong since I’m telling netgear the password to use and it’s like it’s being ignored. The app is useful, the reason I’m giving it only 2 stars is because of these frustrating problems that I’m running into with nobody at netgear who will look into it unless I pay a subscription fee.
Useless. The app was already painfully limited that any major issues you had, had to be done from your computer. Now, it times out when I put in my password and can’t be used. Deleting it as soon as this review is finished.
Apps. Tried to load the apps in my iPhone and also my iPad but both failed.
Useless app that isn’t necessary. Since netgear decided to remove the feature of accessing my router from a web browser, they forced me to download this app. Really, what garbage. Just to do simple things, is now more work than what’s necessary, lots of loading, and frequent errors. Why was routerlogin.net removed? Why couldn’t you give users the option to use router login, or this app? Unbelievable 🤦♂️ Definitely my next router will not be netgear, if this is the way they plan on moving forward with.
QOS. App should include QOS tool.
Easy install. Easy to see up, keeping my old name and password. Very fast and good range
owner. makes life a bit simpler
100% with it. I’ve gone through about 7-8 different extenders that are just “copy - paste” promises, and they were all let downs. I don’t know why I thought this would be different, but oh… it definitely is. A near seamless setup and transition into usage, clean and user friendly app. 10/10 (ooh and yea the wifi extension works amazingly)
Access control doesn’t work properly. Toggling devices on or off just keeps resetting itself after refreshing the screen
Still not working properly…. Just bought a Nighthawk RAX38 that supposedly comes with Netgear Armor… impossible to install as the security option don’t show in app… What kind of router app is this if you can’t access security setup ?
Too many questions. Netgear claims it is faster to set over the app than WiFi, but the app kept asking so many questions that I could have been already done over WiFi by the time I finished "signing up" for a Nighthawk account.
Can’t change SSID name & password. You have to go to pc and change the name and password. What is the point of app, just connect ? You can do better Netgear.
Broken broken broken. After entering the router password the app does nothing for a few seconds and then times out. Refuses to acknowledge that a password was entered. Idiotic. Sticking with logging in on my laptop.
Used for advertising. Decent app, works well for configuring the router. Netgear uses push notifications to advertise other products for purchase though, which is unacceptable. I already paid a ton of money for this router, don’t interrupt me to try to sell me more stuff.
App is different than shown here.. So many devices listed (current and irrelevant) from years ago still show and the UI looks entirely different from the screen shots in the Apple Store. While I’m able to manage the networks easily, it would be great if the original interface which worked well and showed useful device and connection info didn’t go away. The app should look like the app that has been downloaded.
This app barely works. I can’t turn off the guest wifi
Do not download- egregious user agreement. Ok, they killed your use of Netgear Genie so I they could force their new user agreement on you. You must agree to arbitration in Santa Clara Ca instead of lawsuits and you bar yourself from class action lawsuit participation. So, if they have a negligent security flaw, you are screwed without any meaningful recourse. ALSO, if you don’t agree to their new agreement, you must RETURN your device!!! Something tells me you won’t be refunded your purchase cost either. Forcing you to login, thereby giving this seemingly failing company your routers security credentials, doesn’t seem to be a smart move either. I’m sticking to using my secure Firefox browser to manage my router. Next purchase will NOT be Netgear.
Disconnects Nest Cams and smart lights on reboot. Just got Bell Fibre to home. Set up all my Nest Cams and smart plugs and rebooted the router the Bell router and Night Hawk box; one cam stayed connected the others did not reconnect. Happened with my previous set up with Starlink where I had to reset all the cams and plugs/light every time the power went out longer than my battery back up. I boxed it up and put it away. Figured I would give it a try again. Same results. Will likely just get a Wi-Fi extender.
Sometime good sometime not so…. It seems to lose connection to,modem every once in a while so we have to cycle this to make it work again. Don’t know if this is usual or not but I think it sucks to have to do…
Unable to remove parental controls without paying money!. Sad app has never evolved, difficult to use, not best in class, limited functionality to tweak router from the mobile app vs desktop. Try and remove parental controls? Can’t do it without subscribing to circle ( which ain’t working for free) or contacting customer service (why? Why can’t I just do this myself?)
App is absolute garbage. Don’t waste your time with this app as it’s absolute garbage. Half the time it can’t find the router and tells you to make sure you connected to the same wifi network (duh I am and yet the app is still too stupid to detect it). When it works it’s so slow and buggy it’s practically useless anyway. The router itself works ok but the backend is a nightmare
App doesn’t allow much. This is a basic app to access your router. Change password, do a speed test, see what’s connected and add security. Can’t set ips, proxy handling, clear logs, etc. better to just login into the router yourself, if you can. Net gear doesn’t want you doing this tho, why? I have no idea.
Difficult. Won’t stay connected to the router
Nighthawk mesh. Four stars is rated on the Super easy set up!
James rozario. I am happy with my nighthawk but I am able to sign in with my computer but having problems sign in by phone
Password reset. Having one hell of a hard time trying to do a password reset despite many tries
Customization and parental control is not free. I find it difficult to digest that Netgear does not have in-house app developed for parental control.
Disappointed. Have spent better part of the day trying to connect my router to Nighthawk. Nighthawk kept telling me the unit could not be found. I reset my router, checked cables, deleted app reloaded. No luck. Further it would not find satellite. I finally gave up and went back to my apple airport. In addition the app takes several minutes to discover the router only to find out it didn’t find the Night Hawk. After reading comments it’s clear this app sucks. The question is what is Nighthawk doing about these problems? Nothing that is very clear. This unit and app should be given second thought when considering purchase!
You have to change device name every time!. The app doesn’t recognize iPhone device name, just name all iPhone to “iPhone”, the interesting thing is they give you an edit button to let you name each device. If you give user the ability to customize the device name, why this app always wipe them out every time when you relaunch the app?
Deserves better interface. I shouldn’t have to click 5 times to reach the “Check for updates” option: Click Home top left corner Click Settings Click Router Settings Scroll down Click Check for updates This option should be on the main screen.
The app performance is slow.. Some pages take very long to load.
Répéteur. Très bon produit facile en configurer , une vraie jeu d enfant .
Easy setup. I have always bought Netgear products and this app is easy to setup and administrate.
Badly implemented parental controls. I travelled to a different time zone. My children stayed home. The bed times and off times for my children were adjusted automatically to reflect the time zone where I was. Now I’ve returned home, and somehow the settings are still stuck in that other time zone. There is no setting I can find to enter the correct time zone. This makes the parental controls useless. And they’re the reason I bought this router. Badly done.
Classic Bad Software. The router itself is great I have never lost a connection or suffered latency due to too many devices on the same network. But as is the case for every company nowadays they refuse to hire dedicated software teams to deal with the bugs and glitches that make the app useless. I can barely log in at times even next to the router to check simple notifications and this is with full support that costs over $40 continuous! If you want fantastic hardware and a smart device router Nighthawks are great right out of the box, but as per usual do not pay for any of the subscription services because Netgear and others put no effort into the supplementary services offered.
Impossible to log. Can’t log! App open, load… load… load.. ask login and password! Login already filed by the app and can’t be change son impossible to male a mistake ;) I put my password load… load… load… and back to login page! So the app is totally useless!
Not able to view IP addresses?!?. As far as I can tell, there’s no way to check what the assigned IP is to each device. It tells you the MAC address but no IP. I have a conflict on my network and no way to tell what the IP addresses are for each device. I guess I’ll go through a browser… but then that defeats the whole point of being able to manage your network from an app doesn’t it?
Speed test?. Why did you remove speed testing from the app?
Frustrating to switch networks. A few UX frustrations- I replaced my wifi network and had to factory reset the extender after searching through the whole app with no clear method for connecting the extender to a different network. Just a constant dialogue telling me it wasn’t connected with no options to mitigate besides re-connecting to the old (nonexistent) network. After the reset, the loading screen was stuck for several minutes with no way to exit the process. Had to force quit the app & restart to continue setup.
Can’t connect since last update…. The lights are on but nobody’s home…the app says it can find the router, nothing in my products either. I’ve fully cycled it and reset the network to the factory settings…it just sits there using power…
Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!
Thanks For Ruining The App, Again. I don’t know, maybe I’m mistaken, but I’m sure updates are suppose to fix issues and help with functionality, not ruin the app to the point that on my device I cannot connect to my router, remotely or at home, then not to mention, why is it when I hit the switch in the “Device” menu within the app for a specific device, all other devices connected on the internet begin to lag and disconnect? What’s the point of having individual switches for each device if It’s going to turn off for everyone? Then I have to app how slow the app moves when I do hit the switch, before, I would hit the switch, it’ll load for two seconds, then it’ll show that the device is “off”, but now, I hit the switch, and it takes over an entire minute to see that, then if I try to switch it back I run in to issues and “errors”, there’s no reason why you guys are releasing updates that ruin the app
Upload Update. Went to install my New Netgear R6400 v2 WiFi Router. The instructions were not clear that I had to register before system would operate. Figured it out by trying to locate technical assistance: as I uploaded the Nighthawk app and it stepped me through a registration process. The biggest problem after looking for this tech assistance for over 20 minutes, was trying to load the suggested firmware update. Although it said 2-3 minutes I waited over 40 minutes while the progress indicator spun and spun. No way to back out had to start all over and skip the update. Very frustrating. This took hours it should have taken 10 minutes. I am 62 but have an engineering degree & have rebuilt computers as well as auto engines. This should not have been so difficult. Ease of Tech assist access is paramount to your customers overall satisfaction.
App doesn’t recognize internet connection. Bought a new router today and tried to use the app to set it up. While in the app, it says I’m not connected to the internet. This made setup frustrating because I’m trying all different things to troubleshoot wire connections, the modem, etc. Turns out, I’m actually connected to the internet the whole time, the app just isn’t recognizing it. When I open the app, it asks me to log in, I do, and it continues to say the router is not connected to the internet. I can skip login to use the app. The main app screen says “INTERNET: Offline.” Yet within the app, I can do an internet speed test and am getting outstanding speeds. All of this includes after getting the router firmware upgraded. It was glitchy before the update, and not much better after. Not a good first experience with the app. The router seems to work great, however.
Netgear take notes from Asus. The nighthawk routers are amazing pieces of machinery that are held back by their amateur software and app support. The nighthawk app needs to give greater power to administrators to be able to customize the routers to their liking. There is no advanced parental controls, no QOS, no port forwarding etc etc etc. all Netgear needs for their Nighthawks is an app similar to the one Asus or TP-link have and netgear would be #1... sadly we are not there yet... I have scanned countless forums and reviews and people have been complaining about Netgear’s poor software going back to 2017... we are now in 2021 and still they haven’t done any major improvements. Sadly I wanted to love my nighthawk but I will be joining the asus family soon.
Can’t see device names, not able to block devices. I am not one to write a review, and if I do, it’s generally positive and praise the company for their products. Unfortunately I can’t do that for this product. First of all, I am unable to see device names and the ability to block devices is non existent through the nighthawk application!! Every single device is custom named through the device with an identical custom name on my router. This mesh node is unable to detect these names so I am forced to find out what device is connected to the mesh by searching through 60 different device IP addresses. This is necessary because certain devices are connecting to this mesh node that I do not want or need to be on there. If these two issues are resolved inside the app and WITHOUT SENDING ME A SCRIPTED LIST OF STEPS then I will give a 5 star rating. These are the only issues that I am having and everything else has been great.
No Longer Works Because of Subscription Garbage. This app used to be handy for controlling my RAXE500 top of the line router. However, the subscription services Netgear Armour and Premium Parental Control both hamper and even block normal network functions. I turned them off yet the app cannot function because these subscription services get in the way of normal access to the router for any level of management. Because they are automatically loaded into the router and into this app, we have no choice but to have to either accept the service or try to go around them. While I can access router control with a computer on the network via a browser, this app cannot get around Netgear Armour nor Parental Control. So it’s rendered useless. Netgear needs to offer customers a choice at the onset of whether or not to install these subscription services. And if we don’t want them after trying them and finding them badly flawed, we should be able to uninstall them.
Dope Application!. If you own your own router or modem / router combo and refuse to pay a monthly fee to any of these media conglomerates, then you’re smarter than the average bear! It definitely pays for itself and more importantly gives you full control of your network. I’ve always been a fan of the NetGear’s hardware lineup and installing this app will make you wanna pat yourself on the back! FWIW - I’m an application / software developer myself and I’m always critical of nearly every app that I install. To put it plainly, this one is a gem. Be careful though. After using this app, you may start to feel resentment and in some cases, hate towards the poorly designed / developed apps that you have installed. This is just one of those rare apps that can make you feel that kinda way! :)
A disappointing app for a sub-optimal product. When my MR 60 Router could not stay connected to the two MR 60 satellites, the app worked. I put up with this for about one year. Eventually I found a recommendation about getting the satellites to stay connected: Wire them to the router, thus “train” the satellites, then connect them to the router by wifi. It worked, and not a moment too soon. Coincidentally the app stopped finding the router. I have Nighthawk mesh router conections, the Bitdefender app does its job, but the Nighthawk app makes believe that I am not connected to the Internet. I can live without the app. I do not dare to mess up my router’s connection to the satellites by fussing with the app any longer. I do not expect to buy another Netgear product.
Devices constantly lose connection. Bought this to try to improve the WiFi signal in my house. It sort of works. Several of my devices now constantly lose the WiFi signal and can’t connect. For instance, my iPhone is almost always on LTE and gives the message “No Internet Connection” in the WiFi settings page. The Nighthawk router I had been using before I got the mesh router didn’t have that problem. I have updated to the latest firmware and am still having problems. This is pretty much crap. I think I will be taking this back to Costco for a refund. I may need to switch to a different brand mesh system. I have seen lots of message board messages where other people are having the same problems. The Netgear folks need to get their act together.
So far so good. I had trouble setting up my firewall but then I caved in and used the app recommended for my smart phone. Using the app was the magic ticket. The device feels flimsy if compared to Cisco products. However it is just sitting there so no harm should occur. Our home is not large and I get better reception than my previous router. There are a few quirks which I have not figured out yet. We have multiple devices, 2 printers, 4 iPads, 3 smart phones, 2 computers, but I have not worried or encountered any problems thus far while running multiple items simultaneously. I ran a test from my smart phone and I get a decent speed although I realize that the app may be biased. The unit does put out some heat but not enough to worry about. So far a good product. I just wonder how long it will remain cutting edge before I am forced to spend another huge chunk of cash.
GOAT hardware/software/support. It’s awkward to review something with amazing hardware and software and still have to leave a review for support, but when you’re not that tech savvy, you need to know that support is great. The ease of use on the things that I can do have blown away every other competitor. I’ve had TP Link, Linksys, and the stupid Motorola hardware from ISP and this is worth every single dollar that I spent. The app is easy to use and extremely easy to add additional products. Because of something on my side of the connection, I had to call Support and the resolution was attained in less than 10 minutes. Will definitely use Netgear for any additional hardware or software.
I’m so aggravated with this router. So I set my R6900v2 up as an access point and since I have had nothing but issues and it’s with the app, not the router. Sometimes the app will connect to the router and when it does it tells me to login, so I try, some times nothing happens but most of the time it just says “login in has timed out, try again” so when I try again it just keeps giving me the same message no matter what I do, restart the app, try again it’s all the same. I haven’t had an issue for the couple years I’ve had the router until now. I can’t even access the router, from my phone or wired to the router. When I try to access it from a wired connection it just prompts me to change my password, I’m about over it and the app is about to get deleted and the router a baseball bat out of frustration. Simone from this company help me out and prove to me it’s not an awful company that doesn’t care about its customers.
Firmware Updates. From day one I’ve had problems with the latest firmware updates. Used Customer Support ( only good for 3 months) to fix issue. Naturally the Netgear App would not install latest firmware, so I had to attempt it with Laptop to Router via Ethernet cable. 6 hrs later , I had given up , when I rebooted, discovered it had been updated to latest version. But now months later , I see I’m outdated again Regardless that I have app to do it for me. This causes inconsistencies with my Ring, Internet, TVs, etc. Rebooting probably every other day! I also went through 3 Routers before I found one that didn’t have Gremlins in it. NOTE: After months of Rebooting and resetting my Ring Cameras. About 6 of them , we decided to pull of the Roku Deluxe WIFI box and go back to Comcast Cable again. The Roku being out has practically Eliminated all of the WIFI drop-outs on my Router and Modem.*****. Roku uses WiFi-Direct to connect some remotes, which utilize and broadcast on the same channel that it receives internet from. The result is that there will be interference, even on 5 GHz, causing other devices to either drop the signal intermittently or fail to connect, or lower bandwidth.
Furiously frustrating. I don’t need an app to configure my local router but for some reason you decided I must use it. The experience is essentially a shoddy port of a bad web app, replete with nonsensical waiting and pointless interfaces. There are hooks in the local application (the one on the router) that tell the user to use this app, but it directly interferes with local configuration and make it such a horrible experience that I literally want to just destroy the device and but another brand. Using local configuration, I have to log in to your website from a router that isn’t yet configured. To do that, I have to set up an account or get an OTP. To do that, it has me enter an email address and then push a button to submit, but it fails saying that I didn’t enter the captcha. There is no captcha on the page in Chrome, Brave, or MS Edge. So I go to Nighthawk, do the exact same thing, but now I get a captcha. Great! So I go to set up the router (that my phone is using for internet connection) and it tells me to do some basic setup (plugging things in) and then it gives me a progress bar for rebooting the router… you know, the one that the app Doesn’t Know About Yet. Eventually I just used the OTP from Nighthawk to get past the local configuration’s login so I could set the device up directly. Honestly folks, the local setup is good, just take out the hooks to this horrible app and let improve what you’ve already got.
Malware update killed $200 router. After the latest malware update I had to reset my router multiple times a day because it would drop our WiFi, mainly on our iOS devices. I regularly checked for new updates, but there were none. After dealing with this for a couple of weeks almost none of our devices were connecting so today I tried to factory reset the router. Now I cannot get it to connect at all. Very disappointed with this as it had been working for 2 years with no problems and I enjoyed using the circle app to regulate my kids internet usage. I am unsure of wether or not I will give them my money for another one. I think that if an update is corrupted the company would have worked harder to fix it in a timely manner rather than killing my router a month later. Also I am ineligible for customer support because I bought the router more that 6 months ago? Sounds like a load of bs if you ask me.
Setup issues and lack of features. Unfortunately experienced consistent issues setting up the router during the personalization stages. If I didn’t leave the network name and password as the default it would claim to fail updating the settings all the while it actually changes the setting causing it to ‘fail’ and not allow you to proceed through the setup. You have to change the network names and password after setup is complete and firmware updates. Additionally, the app does not include a lot of advanced control options that were common on past cheaper Netgear routers with Netgear Genie. Overall the function of the app once setup completes works well and has good convenient options that cover all the common needs.
Overrated. Just bought a new router and got the thing set up just fine. Then later on I wanted to login and change a few things on my modem router and it was like all the data or passwords I put in were wrong especially for the admin. Tried to renewer the password I put in and it didn’t work. Then rerouted me to a unsecured webpage that asked for serial number and backup questions. I did that cause that was the link the Nighthawk app recommended. Didn’t work so now I am in the process of re downloading everything. Pretty much more of a hassle then anything. I hate when my time gets wasted. Starting to think maybe NETGEAR isn’t the best.
Zero functionality. Only functional thing about this app is being able to manage your router and devices attached ONLY WHEN YOURE CONNECTED VIA WIFI. I can do this on my main computer WHEN HOME. The ONLY reason I would use this app is to be able to manage my router AWAY from home and it does this absolutely terribly. Never works. The amount of loading screens for it to say “Something went wrong” has me steaming just typing it out. I’ve never used a more frustrating app to do such a simple task. Edit to a continuous stream of disappointment and frustration. No updates to app that fix anything. Devices no longer show regardless of how many times I reinstall/relog/reconfigure. Constant errors loading ANYTHING. it’s time to move away from netgear and nighthawk router for something more reliable because I’m done dealing with these issues on a daily basis.
Has become completely in accessible to blind users navigating with a screen reader. The application has become completely useless to blind users navigating with the screen reader. sometimes I wonder if software engineers update applications for the sheer pleasure of annoying current users? The application was perfectly functional when I installed my new Netgear nighthawk modem and it’s sister router. One or two updates later and nothing works! this is becoming a very popular theme in connection to iOS applications and updates. instead of improving applications, they make them worse! and never mind realizing that people with poor eyesight or who are totally blind will need to navigate the application using a screen reader, like voiceover, on the iPhone. so I thank you Netgear, for making the application completely useless to me. I am seriously considering dismantling the Netgear system I have at home and moving on to another brand.
Some issues but a solid product. With past devices they had me upgrade it, and it caused it to crash permanently which was a pretty big bummer, I was satisfied enough though, and after doing a lot of research for a router I decided to give them another shot with a more powerful router from the same brand and I don’t regret it. However there are times my routers speed starts slowing down, and I wish there was a way for them to help you trouble shoot slower speeds when they occur especially because I’m not the smartest when it comes to setting it up which brings me to another point they make that part pretty easy.
App getting worse. UPDATE: with every update this app is getting worse. Now the updated app reports the router as “disconnected “ even though the phone is connected to the router and VPN is off. Can connect via anywhere access and direct via a browser. Ugh. A few days ago the 5g channel dropped even though it is configured correctly. *********** Those screenshots you see in the description? Over time they have been disappearing so all that is left is number of devices connected, speed test and router configuration. No subscription to Armor, no network app, parental controls, no traffic meter, etc. And the app is so slow. Usually fails to connect to the router directly, takes many tries. Shows the router firmware is up to date but wondering about that given other comments. I have been buying NetGear equipment for many years. Next one I am looking elsewhere. #sad
Slow and sluggish now. After the last update, the app doesn’t want to login to my AX 8 as quick as it used to. Switching to the EAX 80 extender view is painful and is like waiting for a picture to load on dial-up. It also now shows my connected devices as being connected twice on my devices page. I have 7 smart bulbs and it’s showing 14. It’s showing 63 connected devices when I have about have that through my house. That is with the extender unplugged completely. I do like that I can control my devices with a tap of my finger. I also like that I can reboot from my phone and that I can check my direct internet speeds from the modem without disconnecting the router and hooking into my Mac On a side note, 1st tier customer service lacks technical knowledge and reads a step-by-step generic instruction from their company computer. They will also inform you that you must purchase an $85 a year plan to get upper level customer service.
Disappointed. My first experience with Netgear and I have to say I am disappointed. I bought the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 and after having everything hooked up I downloaded the Netgear Genie app. After signing up and logging in I come to find out I can only use the app when I am at home connected to the network. Apparently the Nighthawk AC1900 is not compatible and able to use remote access so I am am unable to monitor/control the router and network away from home. I can use an app to control my Linksys router from anywhere (at home or away from home) I bought 5years ago with older technology so I’m not sure why this newer Nighthawk can not. Is Linksys that much more advanced and further ahead of Netgear? So then I downloaded this Nighthawk app to try it and it says my “Nighthawk AC1900” is not compatible with the “Nighthawk” app? Very disappointed so far with Netgear and their apps.
This app has useless. Who ever thought this was an improvement from the Netgear genie app should not be in charge of product development. This app has so many short comings I don’t know where to begin. First and foremost, you can not longer manage your ready share devices on the app. There is no section for that any longer. Also I use the guest network you can only see 1 of them for some reason you removed the ability to see it. You did not give us a network map feature or allow to see the extender on the network. I tried to connect to it with this app and it will not connect. I was always able to connect to my extender with the genie app. I give this no stars at all. Very disappointed in the quality of this app from Netgear.
Functional mostly. I’ve looked through articles , online and still cannot find how to send feedback about this app. I have found it very confusing to navigate. In fact I ended up with duplicate vpn accounts and still the main app doesn’t recognize that their bitedefender is installed on my mobile. Seems easier to just access the vpn at will from the mobile device than try to figure it out through the app. Except for needing it to set up intitially , it’s pretty much a waste of space. Also when the vpn is connected it often interferes with functionality. Certain auto log in with biometrics is disabled which can be annoying. Perhaps I’m doing something wrong. Pretty sure there are other vpns/ firewall protection products out there far less cumbersome.
Update for nighthawk. I have a nighthawk cable modem and nighthawk wifi router. I constantly update the app, and it always states to update me system. Not once have I been able to update anything other than the app. I check daily on the app and on my routers online page. It says everything is up to date and no updates available. It’s starting to get very annoying. Not to mention that the app won’t let me access my nighthawk cable modem. It only allows me to access the wifi router. Under my devices it shows both are registered to me. I chose to use two nighthawk systems so I could access both on this app. Unfortunately I can’t. Hopefully that’s something that can be added. The ability to access all nighthawk systems on this one app. Life is already super complicated and there are enough apps. Keep it simple and make my life easier by allowing me to use the nighthawk app to access both systems.
Write great for 6 months, then was terrible. This router gets worse every day. It worked great for about 6 months, but then I started noticing intermittent drops. Every day it gets worse. I cannot access controls on my computer and the app says it cannot update the firmware and just give an error message. I’ve tried rebooting a million times the past couple of months. That does not help. I’ve requested my password to access settings. I get nothing except a message saying it was sent to my email. No emails yet. I’m so annoyed. This is the second nighthawk in 2 years that has done this. I thought the first one was a fluke, but now I think it’s just a terrible product designed to self destruct. And why the app??? Why not give people the choice of being able to access it via computer instead?? The app is so bad, yet you offer no choice. I see after a week of research that this is not isolated. Too many people are having this problem. I’m fed up. :((
Converted satellite customer. I recently ended my nightmare, satellite internet! I research the new AT&T home 5G mobile hotspot and tried it, also transferred my mobile phone service from Verizon to AT&T. Reception on my mobile phone was obviously worse than Verizon from day one. Transferred my phone back on day two. Also purchase the Verizon home stationary hotspot and sent back the AT&T hotspot. Connected a RAX75 router and 2 EAX80 extenders and I couldn’t be happier. Can stream now and the speeds are terrific. NetGear is the only way to go, terrific products. The ping is just as important if not more than download and upload speeds when it comes to quick internet, the satellite ping was 1000, NetGear gives me 30. What a difference!
Lacks polish. The app works but just repeatedly does things to annoy you. In no particular order: The security package does one notification per device scanned.. so if you have 20 devices.. that’s 20 notifications. Thanks for letting me know each individual Sonos speaker and Alexa are safe. I just ended up disabling it altogether. It asked to do a firmware update and then it errored out twice. Then it wouldn’t let me connect so I had to reset it.. then it wouldn’t reset.. paper clip in there 15 seconds and nothing. Had to unplug it and reset it manually. The QR scanner is useless. It takes like 60 seconds to just join a wifi network. Everything in general is about waiting for a minute or two. Do you really need to ask a question and wait 1-2 minutes and ask another question and wait 1-2 minutes and again. Why not get all the details and just do it once? The whole setup process for replacing a router in 2023 should not take more than 3 minutes. This took like 30 minutes with all the errors and the waiting and the annoying notifications. Overall just left me wishing I would have picked up another box at the store.
Not well thought out. It doesn’t rotate for the iPad screen, which it should. If you got a house with more than one device, you might be sitting with a different device, like an iPad and want to use or control the router. Second, you shouldn’t have to go to two different apps to get one thing done. One app to control it. And you shouldn’t have to log into the webpage to do something that you should be able to do from the app. That is the reason for the app. Third, the bit defender shut me out of working on the router because it thought I was attacking it. You know there are several different ways. You could identify the device to the router so the router wouldn’t think that the person working on the router is attacking it. Come on engineers. Start thinking about it. We use our devices in the real world not in some lab someplace. Come hire me and I’ll explain to you how to make a piece of software that works in real world situations.
Amazing router... useless app.. My Netgear Nighthawk AX12 is the most beautiful router that I have ever bought. This app on the other hand... is just wasting space on my iPad Pro. For starters, why is there no landscape support for an app developed in 2020? Also, why is this app unable to do so little in comparison to its web browser version? The only thing this app is useful for is factory resetting your router with the included QR sticker. Other than that, this app just feels like an afterthought to my $400 router. I’m only giving this app 5 stars because the router it came with has run flawlessly for 6+ months. I hope in the future Netgear remembers that its customers need a good troubleshooting app because not everyone get’s lucky like me and has zero issues for 6+ months.
Terrible. I set up part of my wifi connection through the app, but had to exit to respond to a text. I go back but the process resets and I have to start from the beginning again. The app says I did not finish setting up my router so I go through the steps again until it says connecting to router. It asks for my admin password, which I enter, but then continuously asks for it again and again even though I have already tried that. I thought maybe I did not enter it correctly so I try to follow the steps to reset my password but apparently I need to be on my wifi in order to access the page. But I cannot access the reset password page because I cannot connect to my wifi in the first place. I really want to cry so hard right now this has been the most frustrating process I’ve ever had to go through with setting up my wifi, it shouldnt be this hard. I hate this app so much
Net garbage is what this is!. Netgear used to be a company gnat I have been loyal too. No lore. I purchased this router a few months back. Things were great at first. The biggest failure was the night hawk app. They push the app onto you. You need the app to do this, you need the app to do that. What they are not telling you is that access to their router system is going away. It’s only going to be accessible by app. With this changeover. Editing your router firewall is a thing of the ost. They’ve already done away with parental controls and the app that would work with that. Now you have an app that will jut allow you to set the router upas an access point or eve. Select what role it will play I. Your network. Total waste of time. The new router I bought yesterday is lying on the floor useless due to this app and my not being able to configure my own firewall rules. It’s going back and il kit purchase another netgear product.
Disappointed. UPDATE: Some of my complaints below have been addressed such as updating the router from the app and they have (attempted) to add the ability to name connected devices. They introduced the feature a few updates ago but even with this newest update it still doesn’t function properly - name a device with you chosen name, click save and when you back out from the devices screen and go back to the connected devices, the name you just set is gone. Don’t even need to leave the app for it to fail. *********************************************** Original: Just forced to switch from Genie app. Can’t use app to update firmware. We need the basic ability to set an alias for devices hooked up to the router - how do you honestly expect me to memorize which IP belongs to which device when I have so many devices on WiFi? Devices not on WiFi are still showing in list of connected devices. Rebooting the router is hidden deep in menus. Even with the age or app, for the past several weeks I have not been able to connect to my router locally, only can connect remotely even though I’m clearly on the network and this problem persists with the nighthawk app. Very disappointed. Bare minimum add ability to add an alias for devices!!!
If I could give less than a 1 star I would. Horrible app and equipment. Use to be a really big customer of net gear. After this SECOND router being nothing but problems and the HUGE AMOUNT of negative reviews, from every website you visit, including their own reviews on their own website, says it all. If I could give a negative 5 star rating I would. 1 status being too nice. The app locks you out and can log in. 5ghZ band comes and goes. In 2020 who can’t manufacture a working 5 ghz model? Pathetic. I returned this Black Friday $150 brick and bought a cheaper TP-Link router. Slightly less features but have had it a week. Easy setup AND no reboots. I had this crappy brick net gear router and within 3 days had to start restarting it 5 TIMES A DAY to Maintain a constant internet connection. Thought it may have been my own ISP, but as stated, bought. TP-Link router, using it with same ISP, and HAVENT had any problems. Save yourself a headache. Ima tech guy, I couldn’t imagine a regular person ever having a good experience with this router.
Good start but Missing features. It is a good start but it is like they started from scratch and didn’t include features of the genie app. Problem that I have is that the app doesn’t see my access points as access points. If I use the app and my tablet and/or phone are hooked up to an access point then the app thinks it is the main router. It is really an R7000 configured as an access point. The selection of device types is extremely limited. I have hub devices for home automation, nest devices, switches (nighthawk switches), the access points and other devices that I would like to identify as such. I also would like to do advanced settings on all my nighthawk devices but that capability is not there, such as being able to set radio channels and channel width and other parameters that are available.
Historically speaking. I’m not a “techy” by nature or even technologically apt. Whatever gadgets I get, particularly within the realm of electronics and more specifically computers, it either works or it doesn’t. I leave identifying root causes for the professionals. But what I DO understand is historical references. Such as, where is it today compared to where it was, what trends developed over a period of time and the causes and effects that may have contributed to those trends. So when I saw you can place information such as the upload and download speeds into its “history”, I figured that would give me a nice visual into to peaks and valleys of performance. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. In fact, the “history” might as well be removed as a tool. Because (unless you test your system multiple times a day or week - which is an indication into either your system requiring attention or your OCD condition), it’s more or less just a snapshot. Because all of the other tests you’ve done last week, last month - all the way to when the system was first installed, are erased. Please make the history feature useable and practical or make it disappear, like all of the data that I’ve accumulated over time that I can’t see.
Good product. The Nighthawk was simple to set up. It was up and running in about 10 minutes, not counting deciding where to place it. We have not had an issue with it’s performance in the past couple months that we have used it. Multiple devices run on the unit with no glitches. Speeds are good for our uses, such as performance gaming, viewing shows, web surfing, and more while running multiple devices. We don’t use all the various features that are available. These features take a little time learn, but for tech savvy people, I’m sure it would be simple. The product is solid and attractive. The performance is good. It has good features, but I haven’t tested them all. Overall, it works well for us.
Absolute Garbage!. App does nothing but cause configuration problems. First, I ran into an issue whereby app REQUIRED firmware update, does not allow to bypass on initial setup. But, because it’s still setting up, app will start flash and then Wi-Fi switches over to new SSID and I (and many others end up with a brick). How about them apples? Took two hours to TFTP a firmware load, thank goodness for my cellular Mi-Fi!!! Since then I Have re-run setup four times. FOUR! It’s because app does not complete setup or something. Then got back from work and satellites were offline. You think I can delete and re-add from app? No why would I ever conceive of such nonsense. On top of that, my phones wouldn’t reconnect whilst my laptop was online. So I naturally rebooted. Now phones connect but laptop cannot!! Good grief. Factory reset…..again. This time I bypass all the app garbage and go straight to my laptop, type in the router IP and go from there; done in less than 5-minutes.
Reliable and Secure. I have had my wireless router and 24 Port Switch now for about 2 years never have I had any issues or problems with my home network!!! Never I absolutely Love my Nighthawk Equipment. I would not go any other way. I honestly do not work for them I am a low voltage technician that decided to wire his home one day and connect all his devices hardwired and many others are wireless of course but why tie up the wireless connection when I could hardwire them and get the absolute best performance out of each device, I highly recommend NetGear to everyone I come across in my personal and professional life! Try it you will not be disappointed.
No Basic Parental Contols. I was extremely disappointed to learn that this app lacks any basic parental controls or device timers through this app. I was directed by Netgear tech support to the desktop “Genie” and had to download and install the genie on my desktop and control this from my desktop. I ended up uninstalling it after a couple hours because I have to go to the desktop computer to make any changes. I would say that I took a step backwards in purchasing this router. My old Linksys ac1200 router had basic device timers that you could control in the Linksys app. I was also directed to the Disney Circle for basic device timers, they want me to pay a $5 per month fee for this feature, what a ripoff. If you have children and like to have better control over their internet usage I would suggest buying a different brand. Not happy with this product.
Fairly Useless. The first hurdle you must get over is the constant nagging screen, warning you to buy Armor “protective” service, which is totally unnecessary for me, since I already have Bitdefender Support installed on all my devices. Regardless, it continues to try to upsell you, until you finally figure how to turn it off. Then the app itself is fairly useless since you can download any number of apps that actually perform better. All I really wanted to know was my signal strength in various parts of the house. This app is very lackluster in this regard, so it is rated accordingly. I might also add that NETGEAR tech-support is nearly impossible to get through to the advertised “free 90 day support.”
Can’t change Wi-Fi channels. Sometimes you’ll get a situation either where you had an old net gear device and use it as an extender and create separate Wi-Fi networks. (My situation). 5g does not go that far even in small homes. Then there are situations where you and your neighbor are using Wi-Fi and your having speed issues or connectivity issue because the Wi-Fi channels are either the same or close to the same. The nighthawk app makes it impossible to manage that feature. Something that should clearly be under Wi-Fi settings is the ability to change channels to eliminate this interference. This app has been out for 5-6 years and it is still a very basic function that you have to get on a web browser for the app fails to deliver on. It’s kind of a joke the ability to manage this escapes netgear. I’ve used netgear for all of my adult life. And I can say my next product for when I replace these routers, switches, etc. won’t be netgear.
Setup. First off I want to say this was not NETGEAR’s fault. I bought what I thought was a new router from Target and when I went to set it up using the instructions and videos provided by NETGEAR, I had no success. Apparently someone had purchased this before and had registered it and for whatever reason returned it to store. So after I sent NETGEAR a picture of my proof of purchase and the box the router can in they reregistered the product to me. That said I could not find my new router on the network! So no setup was able to be completed. That is till I hit the reset button on the back of the router to restore factory settings. So If you ever purchase a router and it does not appear on a list of your available WiFi choices, start by resetting your router and then check WiFi selections again. Once I did that, setup was seamless.
Issues With Remote Access. After being a happy Netgear customer for over 20 years, I was very unhappy this past weekend and lost a lot of respect for the company. I purchased an X6S router on Friday and it was a disaster. That product continues to have severe connectivity issues even when on the latest firmware. For the huge price of the product, you would think it would work. I took the X6S back and had to spend even more money on the X10. I have not experienced the connectivity issues with this router, but there are issues with this IPhone application and remote access to the router. I believe when you remotely shutdown access to individual devices and/or shutdown the guest networks, the app is corrupting authentication properties. I started to get invalid connection password messages when trying to connect to the router from my iPhone, just for regular Wi-Fi access. There are definitely some issues that need to be resolved by Netgear.
For expensive hardware…. Please let me pause offline devices. I sometimes anticipate a device being turned on and I want a registered device ti be paused. Instead I can only pause when the device is actually online. Please fix so I can pause all devices listed in the device list. Also using access control, I can only approve new devices on the web app. Please add to iOS app ============ For expensive hardware you should be giving more features at no charge instead of charging subscriptions for features which should have delivered with the product. Latest update wiped out custom names, and no longer seeing devices listed under nodes. So I don’t know which device is connected to which node under which frequency anymore. The UI changes are not an improvement…
Great app. Very handy.. The Nighthawk app really makes so many tasks on the router so so easy. I don’t have to pull out my laptop and go through all the time it takes to login just to do a 30 second task. In fact, it’s so easy to just open the app from anywhere to do just about anything I used to have to be right there to do. It even has the built in speed test. I’m sure it’s not perfect because few things are ever perfect, but I’ve never had an issue with any of the tasks that I’ve ever needed to complete. Thanks for a solid consistent app to go along with your hardware that in my opinion is some of the best and not only easy to operate, but also rarely has any compatibility issues even when using other brands of hardware.
Needs advanced notification settings. Great app, works well. No glitches found. But... the app needs advanced settings added that allow for adjustments of the frequency of notifications. Within a multiple device home, the notifications get annoying. Suggestion: allow for devices to be remembered or turn on/off notifications for a particular device when it is added or removed from the network (ie my specific Roku TV or iPhone doesn’t notify me it is connected to the network, but I get an alert if my garage door goes offline). This would allow common devices to not trigger a notification and new devices to trigger one. I also want to do a daily review of devices added to the network. Maybe allow us to set a time (8 pm every night, I get a pop up with 8 devices connected, etc).
Issues. Initially the app worked great, I had genie at first then they migrated to the nighthawk app- fine. App worked great! THEN after a app update I’m assuming is what took place, it completely logged me off. Not a big deal right? Used my Face ID and it created a whole new account with the same credentials! *face palm* then it said it couldn’t connect to my router at all wirelessly or locally. It kept asking for the admin password and I almost thought it was someone trying to get my log in info by the rate it was asking because it kept timing out, after FINALLY logging in it said I had a update on the firmware which I thought was a fix. Now there’s an error on that and it logged me out again! I finally just logged on to the browser and checked for an update and there is none! Please fix your app, if you need to change settings just use the web browser portal for now! Geez!
Well worth the money. This is the fourth router I’ve purchased, but the first I’ve actually been impressed with. I’ve had issues with my internet connection at home for months, and realized after exhausting all other options, that it was the model of router I had that was the issue. It was notorious for randomly restarting after overheating in a cool room and would reset itself several times every day. I did some research and bought the NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk AC1750 and was actually blown away. My typical internet connection used to be 40-50 mbps download speed, now its 200 mbps steady. It by no means boosts my speed, as my ISP speed should be 200 mbps, but it’s not slowed down one bit by the 5-6 devices we have connected to it. Well worth the upgrade!
