Nice Ride Bike Share App Description & Overview

What is nice ride bike share app? The official app for Nice Ride, Minneapolis's bike share system.

Nice Ride consists of a fleet of specially designed, durable bikes that can be rented from our network of docking stations throughout the city. Our bikes can be unlocked from one station and returned to any other station in the system, making them ideal for one-way trips. Bikeshare is a greener, healthier way to get around — whether you’re commuting, running errands, meeting friends, or just exploring the Minneapolis area.

The Nice Ride App gives you access to thousands of bikes in your area — unlock and pay directly from the app and get going.

The Nice Ride App also shows upcoming public transit departures, with walking directions to stations and stops. Including: Metro light rail trains, Metro Express & Local buses, Metro A & C Lines, Metro Airport shuttles, the Metro Northstar Link, Southwest Express & Local buses, Plymouth Metrolink buses, Maple Grove Transit buses and the UofM Campus Shuttle buses.

Within the app, you can purchase the following Nice Ride passes:

Nice Ride Bike Share Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

It makes no sense. How can you offer a day-pass that only can be used by 30minutes gap. If I buy a day-pass is to use the bike all day long. MISLEADING ADVERTISING.

Autofill feature missing?. The app does not appear to interact with the iPhone auto fill features so that standing next to the bike in the street you have to enter everything from scratch, including pulling out your credit card. Am I doing something wrong?

Terrible navigation in app. I can’t even use the app because it won’t let me delete old credit cards, nor add my new credit card as the default payment method

Best. Awesome

Not the quality that it used to be. It seems that since the Lyft partnership/take over, the quality of both service and hardware has gone downhill. I frequently have issues with broken bikes, scooters that won’t unlock (yet they’ll charge you for using it), and lengthy delays in customer support. Not sure what the deal is. Also, why are the scooters being locked up? Lime and Bird, the competitors, are just grab and go, which makes way more sense.

Terrible. Never going to bother using this app. Look at every review from the past 2 years .

Don’t Use!!!. Bottom line: they don’t maintain the locks on theirs bikes and if the bike doesn't lock they try to charge you $1200 for it even if they tell you on the phone that you are off the hook because their product is malfunctioning. So, want to get charged $1200 for a bike that doesn’t work, that you can’t lock, and that you don’t own? Use this App!!! They’ve completely defeated the purpose of their service, which is to enable you to use a bike, lock it, and not have to worry about it. Long story: I used one of their bikes to go to work and it wouldn’t lock. I called their customer service people to explain that the bike wouldn’t lock and explained that I had to go to work. They asked me to troubleshoot the bike which I did. It still didn’t work. I asked them to close the ride because I didn’t have time to stand and guard their bike while a technician came out. First they said they couldn’t do this, then they said they could. They closed the trip. I asked them explicitly if I would be responsible if they couldn't find the bike and they reassured me that I wouldn’t be. Then they couldn’t find the bike, so they reopened the trip and are now telling me I’m responsible for it if they can’t find it. They refuse to send me the audio recording where the agent assures me I’m not responsible. Not sure how it is legal for them to reopen the trip once they have closed it. So, in summary this is not the, “use a bike, lock it, and don’t worry about it,” that it might seem. There are all the downsides of using your own bike (ie, you have to worry about it getting stolen) only instead of being in control of whether your equipment is working you get to use their broken and damaged equipment and then are held responsible when it malfunctions.

Love This App. Access to all NRMN bikes through the app- no more fob required!

Super Easy to use. So convenient. Love the price. 10/10

Simply Amazing!. We couldn’t think of a better way to explore the city of Minneapolis, Mississippi River and the Isle of Lakes! The system is very well designed to suit the needs of every adventure seeker! We didn’t even realize that there was a time limit to go to the next hub. We had the freedom to spend as much time as we pleased at all of our planned lookouts while having the flexibility to get there on a bike. All the bikes we rode were in great condition. Highly recommend this to anybody who loves to ride a bicycle. Just make sure to have enough charge on your cell phone as the whole system depends on data/app.

So useful. So useful

Fine Improvement. I’m excited that the new version finally makes it clear how many bikes are available or how many slots open. And I finally know how to identify my Favorite or most used bike racks. The old app confused me. Will see what else is clearer now. Thanks also for an email address for feedback.

Super convenient. This is a really great addition to the ways I can manage my Nice Ride account. I can buy memberships, check out bikes, get directions, and see how many bikes there are at the station I'm going to.

Need a way to report user interface problems. The app has a way to report mechanical problems with the bicycles, but no way to report user interface problems with the app. First issue: the map Minneapolis has five basic categories of bikeways, listed here in order from greatest exposure to traffic to least exposure: 1) Shared lanes on arterial streets. Examples include most of Central Ave NE, Bryant Ave south of Lake St, or Marshall St NE. These are typically short gaps on bike routes between other facilities. Arguably they should not be displayed at all in the app. OpenStreetMap (OSM) tags: cycleway=shared_lane AND highway=primary or secondary or tertiary. 2) Painted bike lanes. Do I need to explain? OSM tag: cycleway=lane. 3) Protected bike lanes. These are similar to painted bike lanes but include flexible plastic posts in a buffer area between the bike lane and car lanes. You’ve seen them. OSM tag: cycleway=track 4) Bicycle boulevards. The definition of this category is a through route for bikes that is not a through route for cars. i.e. people can drive here, but only to access driveways or parking on that block. Think of it like a bike path that people are allowed to drive on to get to their homes. OSM tags: cycleway=shared_lane AND highway=residential or unclassified. 5) Bicycle paths separate from the roadway. OSM tag: highway=cycleway OR highway=path AND bicycle=designated The current map lumps together 1 and 4 in one category and 2,3, and 5 in another category. How does that make sense to anyone? I would give 3–5 a special designator, maybe a wide transparent backing line, to signify that these are the primary bikeways, aka the “low-stress network.” I would then overlay a thin line for 2 and 3, a medium dotted line for 4, and a medium solid line for 5. If 1 is displayed at all I would use a thin dotted line. Second issue: There is no way to tell from looking at the map which docks accept returns of classic bikes. If you are riding a classic bike, you could easily be riding to a dock where you cannot return that bike and you would never know until you got there. The app distinguishes between the two types of docks after you’ve borrowed a classic bike, but this assumes that riders will be looking at the app while riding, which I think is clearly a design flaw.

Easy hard. Very difficult to rent more Than one bike from the kiosk, easy from the app

Update. 01apr21: app doesn’t work well with iOS update 14.5 or iPhone SE2.

Easy and convenient. Great option for transportation: usually found a bike within a block. Only downside is they’re heavy, thus less efficient than lighter bikes, but very easy and safe to ride. Had some difficulty getting the app to work my first time, but it’s been flawless ever since. Very pleased with customer support helping me resolve an issue: I forgot to lock a dockless bike and the app alerted me when 4 hours had elapsed. I called customer support and they put a freeze on charges for that bike. Apparently someone else had started using it and had ridden it outside the network. But the next day it was returned and locked. NiceBike waived the $247 use fee associated with the 24 hours it was away. I would definitely use NiceBike again and recommend it to anyone.

False Info. App says there are available bikes but they wouldn’t unlock due to some other issue. I wouldn’t trust going to a bike station again. Much easier experience renting bikes in literally every other city I’ve been in.

Misleading. App looks slick, but the language around pricing is wildly misleading. Don’t fall into the trap. Random server at a local restaurant said “my boyfriend also fell for that scam.” You lost a customer - and it sounds like more than just me.

Very intuitive and full featured. For an out of towner this app and service are fantastic!

IffyishRashid. Wonderful

Won’t load. The app has two pages you have to click next on and after clicking the second next option it just spins and then come with an error telling you try again later. Needless to say I never was able to get passed the welcome screen.

Great features and options. Love using nice rides when weather is cooperative. I do wish there was a way to purchase multiple dockless bikes from my app in cases where I have a friend or family member visiting and they don’t have the app. Otherwise it’s a great app with bike lane transit planning. I didn’t realize they had the pay-as-you-go plan (with unlimited 60 minute trips!) which I will definitely be checking out next spring

Dockless rentals. Will never do a dockless bike again. Got on a bike for 10 min. Returned to a dockless area but didn’t see/know how to end ride so figured it would end at the 30 min. My own fault for not calling support number. Apparently the GPS on the bikes “isn’t that accurate” so now it’s not known where the bike is.

Innovative app, generally fair price. This app and the service is really cool, innovative, and has a good design. The app is well formatted and it has a pretty good network within Minneapolis. I'm using it while I save up for a bike and find it very useful to get around when I don't want to pay for parking and would enjoy a bike ride. My only complaint is that you can't rent multiple bikes on different transactions at the same time. If someone in your party only requires a 30 minute ride, but another person needs the 24 hour pass, you are required to commit to one or the other. You cannot purchase one and then rent another bike at the other rental term. I know the solution would be to have the other person download the app and rent their own bike, but not everyone has a smartphone to do this so it would be helpful if this could be resolved. Besides that minor issue, the app is great!

Winner. Was in Minneapolis for work and this bike program was easy to use, saved me money and was just plain enjoyable to use. Bikes are solid but light.

Very bad riding bike app. Instructions unclear got bike stuck in toaster. Bikes aren’t even electrical smh

Awesome. 👏🏾

Minneapolis nice ride. App works fine but the ride time should be extended from 30 minutes. It’s difficult to get to your destination in such a short time.

Over pay. Rode the bike for 3-4 minutes to my destination and app told me it’s off, later found out that I was charge $54 but app told me the bike was off. Emailed the company and the email said email was not found.

Swift. Does everything I expect to do while on the go.

Really impressed. I gotta say, I was skeptical of this new app because the original Nice Ride stations are sometimes out of date and broken. But this app is amazing. Really well designed and slick. The best part is the bikes! The new blue bikes are their best yet, almost better than my own. It's a really good move forward for this company, and I will be taking these new blue Nice Rides out every week.

Not yet ready for low hassle prime time usage!. Wasn't prepared to spend about an hour downloading & navigating non-intuitive account setup process. Non-contrasting iPhone screen colors were hard to read. Needed multiple restarts to bypass snags & known hassles with credit card scanning.

Awful. Horrible experience you the bikes are super slow and heavy it says you can put them anywhere but you actually need to find another docking port and usually they are Full I had to ride Back to where I came from after all a piece of crap

Stole money from me :(. If you mess up taking a photo of a scooter, it’s a $30 charge. You will not be refunded. There is no feature to go back to take the picture, so if you accidentally took one like I did, they take $30 from you. It’s ridiculous, and their employees, like Gustavo, are so rude and passive aggressive. When I tried to reach out my concern, Gustavo ended the chat immediately. I am a college student, so I can’t afford $30 when I mess up a photo. Also, the app isn’t very safe at all. Use PayPal to avoid getting your information stolen. This happened to me in the past, where $100+ was stolen from me, and Lyft basically said “too bad.” Thankfully I was able to get this issue resolved with my bank. Terrible app and terrible service. Please safe yourself the money and download Uber. There are many other apps out there which are one hundred times better than this one. I had the student discount (where you go through the tedious and lengthy process of proving you’re a student— not worth it), so I didn’t feel like switching to another app like Uber until now. Save yourself the money! Skip this app!

Great. Good app just remember to check your bike in for longer rides

Need a push notification for failed returns. You have GPS coordinates for all of these bikes. Please send a push notification to the app if a bike is checked out but spends a long time not moving. This means someone forgot to lock their bike. Failing to tell us and letting us rack up charges just seems predatory.

The worst bike share experience ever. Rode miles to the nearest bike docking station per the app. Got to Lyndale and 56th only to find there was no bike docking station. Stood there while 3 other riders came to dock their bike and couldn’t. Called to report it and it’s the worst customer experience possible. They couldn’t figure it out. Told us we had to take the bike miles away to dock it or we’d be charged over $1000 for their faulty app and incompetence. Held captive by their error. Totally unacceptable. Get a scooter. Get an uber. Do not use this company.

Very good app. Always support ride sharing and the twin city does a great job in this perspective!

Great app. This app is really useful. I wish it had 3D navigation similar to google maps though.

Love the app. I love the app and the bikes. It’s easy to find , dock, ride, and unlock. It’s also pretty fast.

Easy and convenient!. I chose to not drive my car this summer and this app comes in handy. I have a bike of my own, but I also work at the airport and hauling a bike into the airport is a hassle on a security point of view. So being able to pick up a bike from the rack and ride it to the train and drop it off before I board is a dream! I pay $18 for the month and can ride as much as I want/need! Highly recommend it!!

Terrible. I had a problem with ending my ride. Long story short I couldn’t end the ride the charged me over $100. There was nothing I could do customer support was no help.

Super intuitive. Beyond easy to check out a bike. I’ve got the year pass and just use the app to use a bike whenever I want
