Love!!. My family and I loved everything about this guide! It was so easy to use and it was easy to skip parts of the tour if we weren’t interested. My only complaint is that the whole app was 4.99 and not each tour inside. Still worth it!! Editing because I don’t know how to respond to the developers comment. I realize now that my review didn’t make sense so that’s my bad! I meant to say that I wish the app was $4.99 up front (for the whole thing) instead of paying 4.99 for each tour. Paying for each tour makes the app over $15, which is pricey, in my opinion for an app, especially since that’s just for one island! If there’s a way to make it cheaper, please let me know! I recommend this app for the info, but downloading the (free) app and then being surprised with paying for each tour, isn’t fun. Maybe if the app for the whole state of Hawaii was $15, then I’d understand.

Amazing value for an amazing service. My Husband and I just spent most of a month on 4 of the Hawaiian Islands. Since my Husband permanently uses a wheelchair, most tours and beaches are not available to us so we rely on exploring on our own a lot. So often we drive by something and wonder what it is or maybe what it’s greater significance might be. With Shaka, it’s like you have a high quality travel guide right in the car with you. Literally, there are times we would see something and say Wow and 2 seconds later, Shaka would say wow and then explain what you are seeing. We loved the Hawaiian music between points of interest, we loved that this app is incredibly seamless— truly you set it and go and never have a glitch the entire day. It’s an amazing value for the service. Now that we’re home, we find ourselves missing Shaka and his corny jokes and laugh.

Love this app. We heard about this app from other guests on the island & thought we’d give it a try. We did the Weimea & Nāpali Tour on Kauai. This is a great way to experience various parts of the island. You can go at your own pace, stop when you want, explore at your leisure. Although we have done this drive several times before on our own, we were able to see some great stuff with the Shaka Guide hat we hadn’t seen before. The snippets of history, geography & all kinds of trivia keeps it very interesting in between stops. They’ve even included some restroom stops. Make sure to allow plenty of time to complete the tour, don’t forget your phone charger & connecting your phone through you car stereo is a definite plus for the enhanced audio.

Excellent help for "self-guided" island tour!. Oddly enough I first found the Shaka Kauai tour information thru a desperate google search rather than the App Store, but when I found an iPhone app was available for this guide... sold! Yes it is probably one of the most expensive iPhone apps any user will buy, but considering that you could have easily spent $100+/pp on a bus tour instead, this app is well worth its value. Like advertised, it worked magnificently to automatically start audio at your route points ... even in a rare spot where no cell reception could be obtained! One note to the user - heed the author's advice in tour time length suggestions. The "side trips" for photo ops or hiking trails may be easily overlooked to think you could. Breeze through both Kauai tours in the same day, but as I quickly found out when you stop worrying about the map and where you have to go next and think about the fun of the day's tour, time flies really fast!!! All said, I'm very impressed with this tour guide app and fully plan to purchase the Maui version for the final leg of my vacation tomorrow!

Great App. We bought the Kauai four tour bundle, used each tour to its entirety and were very happy with every one. Definitely worth the money for anyone looking to experience Kauai without an actual tour guide. Instructions were precise and super easy to follow. Each tour can be completed in a couple of hours but we did one each day which allowed us to spend plenty of time at the areas that were of the most interest to us most. Dedicating a full day to each tour allowed us to complete several of the shorter hikes, most particularly to the more remote beaches and waterfalls, a couple of which we’d have never found without the Shaka app. Fun stories and historical insights made the time between sites fly by. Well worth the money.

Just what I needed!. I had a 3 night 4 day stay in Kauai and didn’t know what to do with my time here. A friend told me about the app and i paid for all 4 of the tours, thinking to myself i can’t go wrong. It was the blast investment ever. I was able to fit all 4 into my schedule and what i enjoyed the most was the history and the fact that i was not on a tour bus with a lot of other tourists. I had the convenience of just myself in the rental car. I stopped if i wanted to and or passed what i didn’t mid seeing. I recommended the app to 5 other people before i left my hotel. I live on Oahu for3 years now and i plan on purchasing that app just to see if i missed any history or small hidden gems. This was awesome. Great job!

This is all you need.. Honestly, other than booking a luau and any other specific to your group tours/excursions (my group went for the Allerton Gardens sunset dinner), this app is all you need. So glad we got all four tours. Each one is a preplanned easy to follow day. You’ll hear all the information even if you don’t do all the activities by just driving to them because of the gps activated prompts. The only thing that could make this app better would be a “Sit or Squat app” style feature to mark all restrooms with mini reviews. Bonus: the voice is more like Casey Kasem (Shaggy from Scooby-Doo) rather than those that have more of a Tour Guide Barbie sound.

Great resource for touring the island!. I got the 4 tour Shaka guide since I knew I was going to take at least two tours (Waimea and North Shore) and I wanted to see where the app took me. I was very pleased with how the app worked and the little side trips that could be taken if you have time. I will say the the instructions for Waimea Canyon need to be updated as the app instructs you to follow the road signs for entrance to the canyon road in Waimea but the road signs currently direct you to a different road three miles down the road. It was not a problem as it was a practically empty road and I got a cool picture of a rainbow. I ended up using all four tours and got to see several points of interest and eat at a few locations that I would not have seen otherwise. Highly recommend!

Fantastic Addition to Our Trip. This is my wile’s and my 6th trip to Kauai, our favorite vacation spot. We thought we knew everything important about “our” island. Boy, were we wrong. We saw sites and went places we knew little about. We did all four adventures. We laughed till we cried at some of the silly humor, sang along with the music, and were fascinated by all we learned. Now, we want to try some of the other islands again with Shaka as our guide. (The driving help almost worked perfectly. We had a couple of times where the trails crossed and the wrong audio file came up, but it was easy to overcome.) Be careful on the trip to the cave/sink hole. We went after a storm in a Camaro and the pot holes just about did us in.

A must buy but needs updates. We’ve bought this app for each of the islands and haven’t been disappointed. Each tour gives some fun history and tidbits that we probably wouldn’t have known about had we just driven around. And we didn’t pay an absolute fortune for it. That said, here are a couple of things to know but not to discourage you from purchasing. 1. The narrator is great but it sure would’ve been nice if they could have a different voice for each tour, just for a little variety. 2. In the years since these first came out, changes have happened. The Ishihara store in Waimea is closing in March 2023 so that’s off. The archaeological site in Poipu is kind of blocked by a large screen on the right and can be easy to miss. 3. When he tells you to turn right down a dirt road in Poipu, it’s been paved. Don’t be confused. 4. Kauai can be rainy. Try to look over or get a forecast of Waimea Canyon before driving up. Clouds settle in the canyon so views will be obscured. Consider bringing a hoodie and decent hiking shoes. Slippahs are slippery on the red mud. Trust me. 5. Finally, the app can be a bit clunky to use, especially when getting to the starting point, but once you’re there it’s pretty easy to just follow along. Just have fun with it and Live Aloha.

Absolutely Recommended. A friend who used this app recommended it to us and I wholeheartedly agree. It made the drive around Kauai really enjoyable and pointed out so many things along the way we never would have thought to stop at otherwise. The GPS is amazingly accurate. Usually with driving guides, they tell you where to go and then you have to navigate yourself there and hit “play” on the app. Not with the Shaka guide! It knows where you are and plays fun background music while you drive and then automatically starts the guide when you get to the right spot. So if you’re stuck in traffic, or take a wrong turn, you don’t have to worry about getting off-sync with the tour. Amazing! The content is really fun and good for all ages. The stories, history and legends are really interesting, and we found ourselves using some of their catchphrases during our trip, eh brah?!

Amazing!. This app was the best thing I purchased prior to coming to Kauai! There is so much to see and do here that it can be overwhelming. To maximize your time and truly enjoy Kauai to the fullest this app is a must have. We enjoyed everything it had to offer from the stories of Hawaiian culture, to the "off the beaten path" beaches and views, to the amazing food recommendations! It's a great tour companion. We liked that you can set your own pace, and even start and stop whenever you like! We loved the North Shore and Waimea tour so much we ended up buying the 3rd one. Plan to spend a whole day with each tour at least. Only recommendation we have would be to make more tours of Kauai! Maybe smaller versions or other areas that aren't included currently. Thanks Shaka guide! You really made our trip memorable!!!!!

The best way to see Kauai!. We stumbled upon this app through a Google search. After reading the reviews, we decided to download and use it as our primary tool for exploring Kauai. This app is excellent. As others have said, it feels as though you have a private tour guide in your car. The app uses GPS to detect your location and, based on that, gives you a spot on narrative of that location. The guide also shows you the best places to pull over to check out the amazing views. You can also pause the app and spend as much or little time in each location as you want without missing a beat. I strongly recommend this app to anybody considering exploring the island. Don’t bother booking a guided tour; rent a car and tour the island with this app — you will have a much better experience (and save a lot of money).

Couldn't have done/seen all we did without this app.. We did all four self-guides through Kauai. I would recommend this to anyone. It took us 4 days- and went back to the ones we missed. It's important to remember to download it when you have internet and then get the GPS connected so they can time and map out your location. It is truly amazing! We learned so much we wouldn't have otherwise between the history of the island, archeological digs, and recent history along with plants, animals unique to the island- plus hikes, snorkeling spots, and beautiful beaches with history to boot. I can't say enough about this except... thank you! My husband took a ton of videos and pictures and tagged Shaka guide. Thank you so much for the awesome rate, and hanging out with us. And, making us laugh and sing in the car:) it was perfect!

An absolute must for visitors!🤙🏿. This app is completely immersive and an all out treat for people who like self guided tours. Having complete control of my day on vacation is a must for me. I’m not one to book group tours or all day excursions because the last thing I need on vacation is to feel rushed. I also do not like feeling like I could have done more on my vacation. Luckily, shaka guide was the perfect tool for my vacation! This is a self guided tour that uses your car and your phone GPS to show you the sights and some uncommon points of interest around the island. Once you’ve downloaded the app and the corresponding tour, it’s all basically automatic. The app will tell you where you could stop to grab food, enjoy the scenery, go swimming, hike, and other fun things, all at your own pace. If you have time, try everything! If you’re not interested or are short on time, skip a few things! I can’t tell you how much I love this app. This is my second Shaka guide app, and I bought all the tours. The Maui Shaka guide was my first when I was in Maui looking for an itinerary for the Road to Hana. I highly recommend this for all the islands!

So much exploring and adventure with Shaka tours!!!. We spent 5 weeks with Shaka Guide in Kauai, Oahu, and Maui! I highly recommend this app to anyone visiting any of the Hawaiian islands. Planning a trip can take hours... this app takes care of all the planning and researching for you. Shaka guide teaches you all about Hawaiian culture and legends, takes you to off-the-beaten path places, gorgeous beaches, hikes and food. Shaka is funny too!! I can’t imagine our Hawaii trip without Shaka, it just wouldn’t be the same. So much fun and adventure!!!! You can tell each tour took many hours to map out and plan. Very thorough. Tours range in length to complete. We did find half day tours usually took us the whole day, especially if you want to not be rushed. May want to leave a little earlier than the suggested time to cover everything during daylight. In the 5 weeks we spent across the 3 islands, I can’t remember how many beaches we visited and swam in, mostly through tours with Shaka. You won’t regret your experience with Shaka. 🤙🏻🤙🏻

Grateful for this app!. My husband and I took our young adult daughters to Kaua’i this past week for what will most likely be our final family trip for a while as they start their adult lives. We learned of the app from a used car salesperson (we owe him a thank you too!) and downloaded it. After listening to the previews, we downloaded it. We are SO grateful we did! This app rocks. It took us turn by turn all over the island, explaining what we were seeing, why it’s important and the value of each place to the culture and people. It also covered lore as well as factual information. We were thrilled to see the famous “must see” sights as well as seeing MANY places the tour buses don’t visit. And it only cost $20 to download all 4 tours... for the 4 of us that was the cost of $5 a person. I don’t even want to consider what we’d have paid for a tour bus where we’d have been on THEIR agenda and timeline, rather than our own. Thank you Shaka Guide. You made our Kaua’i visit better than we’d even anticipated!

Shaka is a first class tour guide!. We bought this app on a whim as we started our vacation in Kauai. It turned out to be the best purchase of the week. We did all three driving tours. Each time, Shaka showed us off the beaten path sites and activities that we would not have otherwise known about. All were interesting and fun. Our only issue with the recommendations was that hikes were rated as being less strenuous than a average American would find them to actually be. The payoff was usually worth the effort, but be warned: easy is really moderate, moderate is strenuous and strenuous means you should be an experienced in shape hiker. The offline maps worked great, especially since a lot of the areas are not well covered with cellular service. Thanks Shaka for making our trip extra special. (No more coconut jokes though)

Loved!. I had a tour booked for Kauai. One that picks you up from your Waikiki hotel insanely early, flies to another island and returns you at the end. Well while at the airport flight gets cancelled so no tour. We decide to book another flight on another airline to Kauai, rent a car and blindly drive around the island. I got this tour and we loved it. Such a better experience than we would have done. Hidden gems, roadside treats. We enjoyed it so much we got it for Oahu as well even though we'd been there 4 days already. My only suggestion for improvement- I wish I could select more music. They have some Hawaiian music on here but sometimes it was 20 min to stop 1 or traffic made it a while between numbers. I would have loved to have it continue to play music since its using the cars speakers.

Absolute must have for Kauai. My husband and I recently made our first trip to Hawaii. I’m a very thorough planner when it comes to vacations, and I came across a Shaka recommendation on a blog post. While I had previously read about most of the stops on these tours and planned to visit a majority of them, those visits would not have been nearly as interesting without the guide. It’s so helpful to learn about the historical and cultural aspects of the various places to really appreciate them beyond their beauty. We also really came to value the efficiency of these tours. We might have stopped at these place, but not in such an efficient time and fuel saving manner. We did complete all four Kauai tours. My husband told me to be sure to say that he typically hates everything (fairly accurate), but that these guided tours are well worth the money and in fact, should cost more for what they are worth. Thanks, Shaka, for helping us to make the most out of our time in Kauai. I truly hope I get to return some day!

JUST what we were looking for!. I so rarely pay for apps, but this one was worth it. We only took one of the tours, up to the Waimea Canyon. It worked perfectly! With two teens, impressing them (even in Kauai) can be challenging ;). They were grumpy at first but once we stopped at the Kauai Coffee Plantation they were all in. There was so much we wanted to share with them (my husband had been the first off island reporter after Iniki and I visited a year later) but our stories are ‘so lame’. The voice talent is great and as soon as they asked a question it seems it was answered by the guide! My only sadness is we are on the Big Island and excitedly downloaded that app. You only have one tour here! And due to the volcano of course it’s closed. I was hoping for a Hilo and Saddleback road and maybe Kona area tours :( . Please keep up the good work! Maybe pair up with the Hawaii Uncovered tour book people - between the 2 apps all the info we needed was available! Mahalo!

Amazing app!. The driving tours offered by Shaka Guide are wonderful! My wife and I visited Kaua’i for the first time and I cannot overstate how much the app enhanced our experience. It might have been the best part of our visit, as it really helped us connect to the history and geography of the island. The first couple of days we spent there, my wife was attending conference sessions, and I was left to entertain myself. It might sound corny, but I felt like I was driving around with a friend in the car as I took the North Shore and Wailua Valley tours by myself. We ended up doing all four tours and loved them all! We love to travel and I’m pretty good about planning, and I even love digging through guide books; but, sometimes it’s nice to just have something take the guesswork out of it, and that’s just what this app does. It’s really not like any other app I’ve used. Even having experience geocaching and using other GPS-based programs, I was so impressed with the experience. It’s not often I review an app, but I had to give my feedback...we loved our Shaka experience so much! Mahalo! 🤙🌺

Get it!. Picked up this app while looking for a different one, right before a day trip to Kauai’s North Shore. We had a tentative plan, but this was so much better. Turn by turn guide starts in Kapa’a and ends at Ke’e beach, but you can start at any point on that path. We were taken to hidden, off the beaten path locations with ease, while being entertained and educated. Take as much time as you like at each point of interest. Picks up where you left off. GPS triggers worked very, very accurately except maybe at the very last part near Ke’e. So much fun! I only wish we had started earlier-we started ours around noon. Each of the 3 tours - Waimea Canyon, Wailua and North shire, requires an additional $4.99 (as of the date of this review) in-app purchase. So worth it! Thanks Shaka for the great afternoon.

Love this app. We were recommended the Shaka guide: Maui app for our road to Hana trip, by a friend, and stumbled across this one for kauai as well. Holy moly this app has been so fun. It started out a little corny when we did our first tour, but got so entertaining that when we had weird audio problems, and missed half the stories, we were so sad, and actually went back to listen to them when we got back to the hotel! We had such a fun time discovering many places on Kauai that we never would have known existed. We also had an app update during our trip and love the addition of the Hawaiian music between when the guide talks. Something minor we noticed with the update, is the audio volume for the music and talking is very inconsistent and we have to keep adjusting the volume due to it being way to quiet to all of the sudden blasting. Or even Getting gradually louder!! Hopefully that gets fixed. We highly recommend this app!

Don't see Kauai without this app!. I had never heard of this app and when I stumbled upon it wondered if it would be worth it. It totally is!! We ended up purchasing both tours for Kauai as it kept us from getting lost, helped lead us to lots of sweet spots we otherwise would not have found, and kept us entertained all the while. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is 1) it led us to a waterfall area that is sacred to local people and when we arrived there, a sign had actually been posted by the locals asking us to please respect their culture and not access the site. It is still a public area so anybody can access the site but can doesn't mean should, and 2) as my husband and I entered the ditch with the hanging bridge site, we felt highly uncomfortable after a conversation with men who live there at the bridge site. It appeared there was a homeless camp there, with people living out of old vehicles etc. Pretty sketchy and I didn't feel entirely safe, as we were the only tourists there. Everything else was totally spot on and we wish we had this type of app for everywhere we travel :)

Missing important info!!!. North Shore Kauai Driving We should have been told before the purchase that there was road construction before Hanalei—the road is only open during certain time periods!!!! Not only did we wait for 1.5 hours for the road to open, many Hanalei restaurants and businesses are closed or very limited hours. Also, several of the primary locations require pre-registration making them unavailable unless you book long in advance. Those places basically become drive by. Consequently, you only get about 2/3rds of the value the tour purports to offer. This should be clear before the purchase so you know what you’re getting. Otherwise, the app worked well and was informative. We found it helpful. Several of the locations aren’t much to see but that happens on most tours.

Fantastic!. Amazing app! Myself and my two daughters (12 y/o) absolutely loved it! We were at the “Start Tour” by 0930 for the Waimea Canyon and Na Pali tour and finished the entire tour by 1840. Unfortunately we finished too late because the Main Street shops in Hanapepe were already closed. So my only suggestion is to add recommended ‘finish by...’ times. We did not rush stops but we did not take our sweet time either. We did try a couple of the recommended trails: the nature trail (easy and a must do) and the Canyon Trail (nope, not unless you’re well prepared for difficulty and mud). We had too much cloud cover for the very last lookout :-( But it was still great. We LOVED the Hawaiian stories/legends and music too. The app prepared us with the FAQs and overview, it was easy to use, and we saw so much more than we ever could on our own. A few other tourists asked about the app and I immediately recommended it.... definitely worth buying individual or as the 4 pack (I bought all 4).

Review. It was SO disappointing to get to the Hindu Temple at 12:10 and hear the guide say the temple itself closes at noon!!! Just as we are pulling into the driveway. Big error... because there are TIPS to review for all the stops and that is where it should be stated that the temple closes for viewing at noon. It would have been very easy to plan around that. There is very little architecture to view on the island and I really wanted to see the temple. So... next I was looking forward to number 52. Where I was going to see the pristine white Mormon temple.... thought we must have passed it and even turned around to no avail because the Mormon temple described is NOT even on Kauai. It is on Oahu so that was extra irritating after just coming off the disappointment of not seeing the inside of the Hindu temple. Two huge errors. (Also no wind turbines here those go with the Morman Temple too probably). I enjoyed checking out Gaylord’s in Kilohana which was not on the tour but was in route.

Glitchy glitchy glitchy. The information provided is fine. But I wanted to throw my phone out the window every time I tried to get it to work and wasted precious vacation time. Even with good Wi-Fi at the hotel, I couldn’t get downloading to start. It wasn’t the Wi-Fi. The app just wouldn’t respond. I’d press it over and over and it would just “think” then do nothing. Turned off phone, shut down app, closed everything on my phone, MORE than enough storage on my phone…and nothing. Finally after an hour or two I had three of the four I paid for downloaded. So we left. Then in the car trying to start a tour and it wouldn’t start 😤 THEN it suddenly said I still needed to download them!! I have gotten one to work so far. I’m not going to sit on the side of the road for hours trying to download AGAIN. I’d love the info, but time is too precious on vacation. Too expensive for the hassle.

Made our trip to Kauai fantastic!. Used this app for the first time in Kauai Nov 2021. We did all 4 tours in our 6 day stay. The north shore and the Waimea canyon tours were our favorites. Just to be able to have all the possible stops and trails pointed out along with some great lesser known places really helped us see so much. Wish we knew the name of the narrator since he became our constant companion. Came to the island overwhelmed by all the possible activities and stops and left feeling like we got to really see and know much more than I would have imagined. Thank you so much for developing this app. Look forward to finding others like it for future adventures!

Geeat to Find Your Way. The app is an excellent tool to make sure you have the opportunity to see many sights while on the island. The historical commentary is very beneficial. The one thing I would ask between sites, dead silence leaves you wondering if you are off course. It would be better to say where the neat turn is and approximate distance to get to it. Otherwise, you are left wondering if you are traveling in the correct direction, waiting for the commentary to begin speaking again. That being sId, I am grateful to have purchased the app. It made us realize we had been missing a lot when we came to the island earlier.

Buy it - won’t regret it !. Got to enjoy 2 days of the self guided tour in the island of Kauai (we bought the 4 pack), and the price , which yes, seems steep, it’s so worth it! I’m gonna be honest - I was worried about the internet or lack of it in some areas. But no. No problem at all! The app is genius , it uses gps to guide you around (and our guide also made verbal reminders to “turn left”, etc. The facts / stories about the land , the places that we visited made the ride enjoyable - our 5yr old was paying attention too! .. and the recommendations for pit stops were great (ie: poke and shaved iced made our day trip even better). We are definitely coming back here and also planning a trip to another island. And you bet that I will be downloading Shaka app again!

Best part of our trip so far!. We’ve been on the Kauai for 3 days - and unfortunately have had a lot of rain! Not the kind of weather to sit by the pool or beach and relax... so we decide to get out and explore. I googled Kauai driving map and stumbled on this app and decided to check it out. We figured it was worth trying to go to another area of the island looking for some sun - and if no sun was to be found at least we were out seeing something new! What a great decision. We’ve now done all 3 Kauai tours and it’s been the best part of our vacation. The tours are fun, informative, and include great little stops that we would have never found had we not taken the tour. Tours are easy to follow with great and detailed spoken instructions. Even little tips like ‘pull over here and look for someplace to park - because if you go farther down the road it’s difficult to turn around.’ The tour guide is funny and engaging - sharing a great amount of history and interesting anecdotes as you follow the route. I highly recommend investing the minimal cost to purchase the tours - all 3 have been great!!

Efficiency is key. There is way too much to do, and far too much to see to be able to fully capture the grandeur and awe that is Kauai. That being said, the key to fully appreciating every precious minute of your vacation is to be efficient with the time you do spend in your travels. This app ensures that you get the best views overlooking the canyons and beaches, takes you off the beaten paths to the special, hidden places reserved just for locals and those "in the know," and avoids wasting the costly minutes or even hours spent looking in vain for parking, dining, gas/fuel and restrooms. The stories along the way are very informative, entertaining and funny (albeit somewhat corny at times). These tours are a perfect beginning / starting place for those visiting for the first time, and there's plenty of info to keep you engaged and entertained even if you're a regular. Perfect for those looking for a "locals' opinion" on where to go and what to do; but still wanting a personalized tour that you can go and do at your own pace, and take as little or as much time as you'd like. There's even background music to set the Hawaiian mood. Just be sure to download the entire tour over wifi before you leave the hotel. And bring a car charger, and an audio cable to plug into the stereo. But most of all, remember to have fun!

Awesome again!. We used Shaka to explore the Waimea canyon on the second island during our Hawaiian vacation. It was awesome on the road to Hana in Maui so we decided to use for this trip to Kauai. It was awesome and so precise! Even told us about a flower on the side of the road that was blooming right as we got there. Only suggestion is that the hike to the falls is a challenging one and although the app does say you can take an ATV road to shorten the hike it suggested you would miss out on some views. The views were all forest, wood views and nothing special so I would recommend for most who are not avid hikers to take the ATV road and start from there as it’s still pretty challenging but I highly recommend the hike to the falls for some beautiful views!!

Great Guide!!. My boyfriend and I bought the Waimea Canyon Tour and it was an amazing experience! Definitely worth the $15. We spent all day out exploring and honestly it was our favorite part of our trip! The tour guide tells you very interesting histories about Hawaii as you drive so there’s never a boring moment. The tour guide doesn’t give us his name so we called him Berto for the whole trip. Really fun guy! His accent changes a lot and the jokes are a little corny but we thought he was very amusing. Berto was probably our favorite tour guide during the whole trip as well! If I were to make a small change, I do wish that the music after the Berto’s speaking parts were just a little longer— just long enough so there isn’t an awkward gap or silence between locations. Other than that little suggestion, I think this app was amazing and will definitely use it for when we return or go to the other islands!

Used the app today...it’s AMAZING!. When I read a review, someone mentioned, “they would have never seen so many unique places on their own.” I have to agree with this 100%. We realized it was gonna be a rainy week during our vacation to Kauai island and found this app and decided to give it a try. We are so glad that we gave it a chance. The directions were spot on and it takes you to a lot of uncommon places that allow you to feel like your getting a true experience. The tour guide is also really cool. It’s like being on a guided tour within your own personal space. It allows you to spend as much time as you want at each location and resume when you get back in your car. We highly recommend using this app if you want to go experience the Hawaii islands, you won’t be disappointed!

Easy to Use. We used this app to see the island of Kauai at our own and pace. My favorite tour was Waimea Canyon. The guide works by downloading the tour and map in advance so even if you are stuck without cell signal (which you probably will be), it will still function. There are a lot of cool legends and stories that the guide shares. He takes you to some nice scenic places that maybe most other people don’t know about. There are options to do some hiking so be prepared and have the right clothing, walking stick, bug spray, water if you want to do hiking. Some hikes are short, some are several miles and longer. It also gets very muddy if it has been raining so be prepared for that also. It can be very dangerous in Kauai to hike certain areas when muddy so use your own judgement. Would definitely recommend this app and will use the other Shaka Guides when I go back to other islands on Hawaii. I would love to see similar guides for other parts of the USA!!

So Thankful for this app!. My husband and I have toured four islands on our own in the past, with a little help from guide books. We brought our 18 and 21 year old children on our last vacation and were excited to show them Kaua’i and some of our favorite places. I learned about Shaka Guide via a FB page and I am so glad we found it. It was so worth the purchase price and led us step by step to each destination. We loved the stories and background on each tour. When the last of the four tours was over, we missed our guide’s voice and accompanying music. Strongly recommend this app for those on island for the first time and those returning. I can guarantee you will learn and see something new.

Great app for self driving tour!. We bought the whole package, and took our first tour today. I thought that the tour itself was wonderful, pointed out great sites and was very clear with when we needed to pull over to the side of the road or make a turn. I do wish at the beginning of the tour it was specific about how early some of the small towns close so that we could’ve planned accordingly. One enhancement I would love to see is some more music playing during the drive when the tourguide isn't narrating. There was some Hawaiin music played when we first turned around towards home, and it was very enjoyable. We really appreciated that it pointed out some suggested stops that were different on the way home from the way up the mountain. Overall I would definitely recommend this app!

Absolutely a blessing!. This was totally fun and enjoyable. We came here in January and it rained the first day. Taking the waterfall tour during the rainy weather, made for a great day. The music and jokes, stories - both legend and factual - made up for the weather. This is pure fun - no disrespect intended as one person rating the app implied. The GPS was an excellent way to navigate the island. One navigational error in the North Shore tour: 68, wet cave, said it was on the right. It’s actually in the left about 15 yards prior where stated. Well worth the investment. We would never have found many places for they are not well marked. Kudos One thing of interest when doing the Canyon / NaPali tour - wear a bathing suit if you hike to the waterfall. I was disappointed that I didn’t know I could wade in the waterfall. Also, if you have trekking poles, take them. Absolutely entertaining and fun to follow. This was such a good app, that I had 5 other friends download it for our trip. The app is first class!!!

Five gold stars!!!. My family and I were greatly impressed with Shaka Guide Kauai. We used it this past week when visiting the beautiful island of Kauai. The guide pointed out several amazing stops that we would of simply missed if we drove around the island without the guide. The audio tour guide was very informative, entertaining, and overall enjoyable. It instructed us where great views were, which locations had restrooms, amazing places to stop for food, and periodically gave us an overview of the tour to keep a time frame in mind. Which was greatly appreciated, as myself and my family were required to get back on the cruise ship by a certain time. I would highly recommend using Shaka Guide. We’re grateful we choose Shake Guide!!!

Enhanced our trip. I’m a Hawaii vacation veteran. My wife and I married on Maui. As a traveler I really like to learn and see not just the easy sites. I read the reviews both negative and positive. Is there a little pandering to the tourist? Appsolultly. Is it over done? No. I worked in the tourist industry for years. And this is the write level of levity and facts and just delightful stories. I also can say if I had this narrator in a live tour. I’d tip at the top of my ability. Kaui is my favorite island. Laid back. Lower tourist congestion. And beautiful. The stories are great. The off the beaten path beaches that we saw are fantastic. If you are visiting Kaui for the first time. Not sure of how to spend a day here or there. This app is a gem. We did 3 of the four tours. If we had one more extra day. We would have done all four. My kids also enjoyed it as well. Lots of laughs and nice to hear stories we probably wouldn’t hear otherwise.

Worth it!!!! Mahalo!!. Purchased this as something to do so as not to “waste” our half day after flying in to Kauai from Oahu. I was desperate to see as many waterfalls as possible on our way up to Princeville (where our Airbnb was located). This tour took us on an amazing drive, which included an amazing place to pick up an affordable lunch, picnic at a park, short hikes / walks, and many waterfalls. We didn’t finish the tour because we peeled off to head up to Princeville before it got too late, but this tour is worth every penny (and them some). Would definitely try others if we had more time on the island. If you’re on the fence, you wont regret purchasing this tour.

Best part of our trip!. My family did two full tours, and the other two in bits and pieces. This app was an immediate hit! My kids (12 and 15) named the guide Frederick, and we did whatever Frederick told us. (If the parents were in charge, the kids would have gotten bored/grumpy, but they never complained about Frederick!) We went places that we never would have noticed, learned fascinating Hawaiian history, and heard lots of legends. We had the best shave ice and poke, Frederick never steered us wrong! The driving directions were easy and spot on, plus we felt like pros whenever Frederick said “Great job on that roundabout!” Waimea Canyon was one of our best days because of this app. The waterfall tour kept us entertained on our last day. On a hike, we were wishing Frederick was there to talk about the plant life (future app idea?) Honestly I wish Shaka made guides for other places, too, because this improved our vacation so much!

Great driving tours. This is our first Kauai trip and we did all 4 tours available on this app. I did a lot of research before our trip, making my “to see” list. These tours included everything on my list and more! I can’t believe how much time I wasted reading tour books, doing Google searches, and mapping out routes for each day. This app did all the work for me! Very entertaining and enjoyable experience with each tour. The narrator does a great job of mixing humor with Hawaiian legends and factual information. We live on Oahu and while we think we’ve seen it all, I’m starting to think perhaps the Shaka Guide app holds hidden gems. We’ll be checking it out as well as the Big Island tour for our next island adventure. Mahalo for making our trip so enjoyable!

Excellent!! Don’t drive without it!. I have been to Kauai over 15 times in 22 years. I can’t believe I didn’t know about this until now! Excellent, user friendly, you can go at you own pace, stop at all or none of the highlighted places, turn on and off as you wish. We had no problem downloading the 4 trip options, and the tour automatically started when we were in range of the first starting point (turn the app on of course), with sound through our rental car speakers, when we connected the phone via usb. We did the Wailua falls tour yesterday because we had never done the Fern Grotto boat ride, and we loved it! Highly recommended!!!

Amazing and Essential. This is my second year and second review of this incredible app! I just had to leave a second one because this is the best investment I have ever made! My sister and I love this app. We love the histor, music, and jokes. I love that it efficiently starts up when you reach a talking point. I had a long career, almost 40 years, as a computer programmer. I am sometimes disappointed in the careless apps that are available and this one is not!!! It is the greatest tool for driving around the island. I am presently on Kauai but purchased all of the islands because this one is so good. The only negative thing I can say is I am now spoiled and wish that other places were also available. Thank you so much for providing such a wonderful product.

Game changer. My husband and I downloaded the tours hoping we might find a few helpful hints. What we discovered was an incredibly thoughtful and delightfully user-friendly experience. We love exploring on our own as opposed to being stuck with a group. These tours are the best of all worlds. We hopped in the car, got to the starting point, and let the app do all the work. We saw breathtaking, magical places I know for sure we wouldn’t have found on our own. We learned history as we drove along at our own pace. The app is so easy to use, and saved us SO MUCH TIME because we weren’t spending hours researching where to go. We did hikes, hung out on very cool beaches, even knew where restroom stops were located. This is truly the best way to see the island. Would give 6/5 stars if I could. Loved it!

Can't say enough great things about this app!!!!!. I can't even imagine what we would have missed out on if we hadn't purchased this app. This was the most amazing vacation! Our time spent exploring was so awesome with the easy directions, tips, and stories along the way! We were able to find places that we wouldn't have been able to locate otherwise. A little to be desired. The app had some useful information but the history was portrayed in a little disrespectful style. The information on the secret waterfall required one to use a path that had signs asking tourists not to for Cultural reasons. Not as good as other self tours we have used.

Overpriced. This guide is not as good as GyPSy guide, which unfortunately doesn't have a Kauai tour. The speaker for this guide is a bit over the top and not funny when he tries to be.

Needs some work. All is good and entertaining stories but takes a bit of time to restart every time we go out of the car and take the phone to do some pictures. Also cannot stop the music that is playing in the background in the Music app.

Lost all my purchases. Updated the apps and lost all my previous map purchases. Restore purchase function does not work. Apps crash without the update. What a waste of money!!!!!

Best travel App ever. I bought the Shaka Kauai and Big Island tours for my recent trip. It was the best thing we did. The children loved the animated stories and the app made it so easy to see all the best places and learn a little about Hawaiian culture along the way.

Great App. Made our stay in Kauai memorable. We used this app for self guided driving tours on our recent trip to Kauai after my husband paid a stupidly insane price for a 4 day rental of a convertible Jeep (so organized group tours were out of budget after that 😆). Turns out this was a great decision. We enjoyed exploring the island at our own pace and found so many hidden gems that you would never discover on your own or get to see on a big expense commercial tour. Highlights were the waterfall hike at Kapa’a stream and the Makauwahi Cave with the tour by volunteer Jerry. The kids actually really enjoyed listening to the commentary about the island especially the part about the historical wars between the islands. I will definitely download the app for the other islands if I get the chance to visit Hawaii again.

Excellent way to see Kauai. We hired a car and used the app to do both tours. It's outstanding and such a great way to see the island without a formal bus tour. Much more flexible and very well narrated!! Well done

Fantastic way to discover the island. As a family of four we have done four Shaka Guide tours of Hawaii and they are great for the adults and children alike. I’d recommend them to everyone. Plan a bit more time than the actual time allocated to each tour though, a 3-5hr tour can easily take a whole day, in fact I don’t see how you could do it in 3 hours.

Awesome app. I was a bit hesitant purchasing this as its relatively expensive as apps go however it was brilliantly-highly entertaining, very informative, great music, history and directions. It only glitched once where it was too late with a turn instruction, otherwise, I spent about 6 hours using it for an excellent day out on Southern Kauai

Shakka Rocks. Ok so we just finished the Waimea and Na Pali tour! Huge day, left from Poipu @ 8am and back now at 5pm and we skipped Waimea town on the way back. The tour worked flawlessly and the info was great. We had a few issues the last few days trying to run it through the cars stereo but believe the problem to be a ford / apple problem. Great trip and you get so much info the trip adviser doesn’t give you. Well worth the money.

A must have!. It’s an awesome app you have to get if you’d like to discover the island, the main locations as well as some other hidden places. The app worked perfectly, it’s so nice to have an offline feature for foreigners that don’t have internet, and the guide is funny as well! Keep on the good work :) We paid for 1 tour, but ended up buying other tours and the full package for another island, that’s how much we loved it!

Great app!. Our family loves coming to Hawaii and renting a car to do our own thing. When we heard on a Trip Advisor review that Shaka Guide should be used we decided to give it a try. Compared to most Hawaii atttactions that cost and arm and leg the app’s 4 Kauai tours for less than $30 is a bargain. We followed the guide and enjoyed the stories, stops and advice. It felt like we had a personal tour guide. The only bad part was in the end of of our last tour (the Kauai North Shore) our rental car could t connect to the app so we couldn’t hear all the stories over our car’s stereo. This was not the fault of the app at all. Also, if the Kauai tour can include the Queen’s Baths stop, that would be awesome.

We saw so many wonderful sights and learned so much about the island thanks to this Shaka Kauai app. It gives step by step instructions on where to go and also provides options. It picks up your location through your phones GPS and you don’t need data/cell service for this to work. Well worth the money!

Loved it!!!. We just came back from Kauai, were there during New Years break. I loved the app! I used it with my daughter's Wonderboom speaker that she brouht with her on the vacation. Our vehicle was Grand Dodge Caravan and it did not have bluetooth. It worked great. I saw a lot of tour busses, but was glad to have our own "tour guide" in the car. My children are in their 20s, and they loved it too. There are three drives, each would take a FULL day to do. We did things at our own pace. I loved the fun and informative parts. Later we went on the catamaran tour and everything they were saying there, we knew from the app already! Hawaiian music on the app is perfect with the scenery outside. So beautiful! Fun, Easy, Useful & Accurate. My family recently visited Kauai, and this particular app was recommended to us. When using it, we all found the history, (shared with a sense of humour), directions, and sites to visit were well described, easy to get to, and worth the stops suggested. Just download it, and stop and/or move on with your travels based on the pace you'd like to go.

Fun and cheap. Just spent a week in Kauai. Bought all 4 tours and finished them :) lovely to relax and go around town and learning about the culture and stories made the trip that much more worthwhile and interesting. We stayed in Poipu and Jen Princeville for 4 days each, was fun to listen as we travelled to different sites. Useful because doesn’t need data (just GPS). Uses a lot of battery, remember to keep that phone charged!

Great App - Must buy for Kauai. Stumbled across this app by accident and am glad that I did. They should advertise more - maybe the airports. I dl’d the Kauai North Shore first and it was excellent. Downloaded the other two on spec. They are great too. Will def recommend to all my friends heading to the Islands.

Great for exploring!. We downloaded the North Shore and Waimea Canyon guides for our recent Kauai trip. The guides were great! Very helpful for exploring areas you wouldn’t necessarily see or visit, especially on the North Shore guide.

Kauai Tours. We loved having our own personal tour guide. We used all four of the Kauai tours. The tours were fun, informative and we loved not having to pull out a map! The tours played through the car stereo and were very accurate using gps. We never made a wrong turn! Thanks!!!

This is a great app for anyone wanting to do a “self guided tour” and self is relative as the Shaka guide is with you step by step, with local knowledge and stories as well as areas that a map wouldn’t help with. Fun informative. I liked this app but it would not pair properly with the rental car. It was very frustrating at the beginning. Indicated it was working but we could not hear. Worked pretty well when disconnected from car but battery died

Loved discovering Kauai with Shaka Guide!. I definitely recommend using Shaka Guide! Our first trip to Kauai would not have been as good without it! Loved it! Now... After going to Maui twice a year for many years, I look forward to going back and using Shaka Guide to discover some new things and learn more history!

Shaka Guide is the bomb. An absolute must if you are visiting Hawaii. We visited Maui, Kaui and Oahu and downloaded all of the apps from Shaka Guide. We explored everything that can be explored on each island due to Shaka Guide. Loved all the recommendations from Hikes, to food, to scenic views and much more. We loved the stories about Hawaiian history and legends as we were driving. Big thumbs up !

Tour is great.......without tech glitches. The first tour “Waimea & Na Pali Tour” was a great experience. Narration, stories, legends made for a fun, informative tour. If it wasn’t for the technical glitches in the second tour “North Kauai Tour” which we could only access for a quarter of the tour, we may have continued using other Shaka Guide tours available.

Amazing value!. This app was everything we needed and wanted for our special honeymoon in Kauai! The guide is not only helpful at taking you to all of the best spots, but he's also really funny, and gives all of the history of Hawaii a tourist craves. 10/10 best purchase in Hawaii!

Very helpful. Used this in Kauai which was our first time. Used the North Island Tour and the Waimea Canyon Tours. Found them both very insightful and helpful. We would not have found many of the sites without this app. The only complaint is the breaks in between where the app is not talking or there is no music and the radio keeps coming on. Wish the app would be able to play Hawaiian music during these frequent breaks Also one other comment is maybe the warning for the next turn a minute or two earlier. Many times it was when we would be at the intersection and had to scramble to make the turn. Highly recommend this app to anyone travelling to Kauai. Beside the great hidden treasure the stories provided insight into some Hawaiian history. Kevin

This is the way to see Kauai!. This is such a well made app, we saw places we would never have found on our own and in order so we weren’t back tracking all day. Shaka Guide Kauai. Works pretty good but best advice I can give is, slow down your driving. I was driving too fast and the narration couldn’t keep up to me. So lots of points skipped.

You need this app. From beginning to end Shaka walks you through the history of Kauai and makes sure you and him are on the same path the whole time! You’ll learn so much about the island in the comfort of your own car at your own pace, exactly how vacation should be! Best part is, if you don’t want to do something or have no interest you just don’t stop, keep going and so will the tour! We very much appreciated the jokes and got a lot of giggles. The music is also great, featuring our favourite song from Lilo and Stitch!! I could not recommend this app more it should be a must have especially if you’re renting your own car 100/10

Insightful, fun and super convenient.. Me and my Wife downloaded this hoping we would get some insight on our way up to the Waimea Canyon. It delivered more than just pointing out facts..it entertained us and really got us in to the Aloha spirit and made us feel like we had our own personal guide with us. Download the tour app before you go, it’ll make it so much easier in the event you lose reception, which you will! The interface is easy, user friendly and when we didn’t stop at a key point of interest, it just moved on to the next one coming up. Love this app.. we’d do all the guided tours if we had more time or found it earlier!

First time - Simple and fun. First time using this app. I downloaded it for Kauai. It was simple to use, fun information and great music. Notes- This app does not guide you to the first stop from your current location so you’ll need to use your maps to get you there. I didn’t realize that until I drove out of the rental car area. Also advise looking at the list view to see which stops you want and which ones you want to miss. I didn’t realize this until later in my trip but was able to skip some of the stops not of interest. I loved the app and would defiantly use it again when coming to the islands.

Well worth the minimal cost. We paid for all four of the tours offered for Kauai. The app made it so we who had done very little and planning had four extremely full and exciting days. The issue I would say is the time commitment is slightly off. If you plan to do most of the stops on the tour plan on it taking at least the long estimate and probably longer. We cut off half one of the tours and still exceeded the short time estimate. That’s not really a bad thing though. We had a great time with all of them and there was very minimal additional cost once we paid for the tours. Great value!

Great experience. Really liked the tour, going to use another later this week. If I were to change anything it would be a little better interaction with the narrative that allowed you to skip over stops and also could include/exclude things like food or shopping from the steps. Also missing a turn didn't redirect you back in line with the tour. All that said, those are nit picky and also part of the download and offline only requirements so they're not complaints. Fact is we had a great tour, a great time, will totally recommend and will use again.

Download this f*ng app now. Jesus this app is boss. Seriously. Great idea and perfectly executed. My advice to others, just trust it right away. At first you’ll double check directions, your map, etc. After ten minutes I just went all-in and it worked perfectly and I didn’t check my map again once. This is one of those apps like Finalee. and what3words where you just want to tell your friends about it... same as the guy on the plane who told me about Shaka. I HATE paying for apps, but it was worth every penny. There are so many BS apps out there and it was nice to see one that actually served a purpose and was useful and a great experience. Kudos to your team!

Excellent driving tour. I’m one to literally never write reviews, but we did the NaPali Waimea tour today and it was so wonderful. The antics that the guide gives a great and even had us laughing quite a bit. And the stops were spectacular and we couldn’t have planned it better ourselves. We plan on doing the others here in Kauai and the ones in Maui while on our trip. Highly recommended. I may have missed this, but just tap the starting point on the guide and your phone’s map system will guide you to that and then you can start the guide. That took me a minute to figure out but once we started it was awesome!!!

Kuaui water falls tour. The narration and the timing and the locations were all spot on and all a wonderful surprise on how well it was done The only negative was the at very end on last trail to the third waterfall. We nearly got lost on the trail to find the first of the two falls and never made it to the final fall which the kids were looking the most forward to. The trail had no markings to help us ( and although that is Shaka ‘s fault ) but had we known that we would not have risked getting nearly lost on that trail, which was not easy at all and quite slippery w mud.

Kauai tours made our stay wonderful. We used both the north & south driving tours for our Kauai trip. While at first the narrator seemed a little goofy, we grew to appreciate how much care is put into blending history, local lore, and music to make an entertaining tour. We even re-visited a few spots because the audio was so informative. Only request is to give more advance warning for turns so we don't have to u-turn so often. And I wish I'd found out earlier that we could play each stop on demand, regardless of location... only stumbled onto that at the end. Overall an excellent value & great way to meet the island.

My family was so impressed. I found this in my own and was worried it might be cheesy. Nope! It was incredible. So many times we would see something that made us want to stop but we'd say, "wait ... he didn't say to stop there." And then a few minutes later ... BAM! There's the right place to stop and soak up some incredible natural beauty. The stories are great. They complement the stories told on other tours. The setup is great. You can turn it on and just drive ... or you can plan a morning or afternoon around filling all the steps as if it is a true tour. Flexible and awesome. We really loved it. Don't think twice. Worth every penny.

Best Money Spent on Kauai. The best part of these tours is that they include so many different places and you can make it your own. You don’t have to struggle with maps or read a tour book. Just play and listen. Turn when they say to turn if you are interested in the next stop or don’t if you’re not. The tour uses GPS and it keeps up with you. I feel like we saw so much more than any traditional tour — a lot of very beautiful sights only locals know. And I love the support of local businesses. All we tried were outstanding. We got to know Kauai so much better this way. We will be using this every time we visit Hawaii. Excellent, excellent value.

Worth every penny!. I brought my mom to Hawaii for her first time at age 82. We wanted to see the main sites, but I wanted us to be on our own time schedule, just in case we needed more time somewhere or needed to bail. The Shaka apps were absolutely perfect for us! (We used them on Oahu, Kauai, and Maui!) They were super informative, a lot of fun, and really made our days worthwhile. I really appreciated the honesty and realism in the history. The Hawaiian people have not always been treated well throughout the years and those references were handled beautifully. We also really enjoyed the music. These apps could not be easier to use - buy them!

GREAT App!. We very rarely pay for an app, but on a whim we tried Shaka’s Road to Hana tour on Maui. We were hooked! It really is like having a tour guide in your car, one that is both entertaining and informative. The app worked well for us, used our phone GPS instead of data, and provided helpful options to preview and review the tour. We ended up buying their tours for everywhere we went—Haleakalā, Kauai’s Waimea Canyon and North Shore, and the Big Island’s Volcanoes National Park. We tried the competitor app (GyPSy) for circling the Big Island and found it dry and not as user-friendly. Shaka is WAY better. Can’t say enough about the Shaka tours. Enthusiastically recommend!

Best money you can spend on vacation. This is our second trip using the Shaka Guide apps, and they’re worth their weight in gold. Hours of sightseeing and exploration, great recommendations, history and context for what you’re seeing, and the flexibility to go at your own pace and edit the tour to your needs. Easily at the quality level of most in-person guided tours I’ve been on, with the only real drawback being that you can’t chat or ask questions with the guide - but the low price and high flexibility more than make up for it. Absolutely recommend!

Best $5 I've ever spent. We found this app after desperately searching info on google. Our airline got us here late so had to cut our vacation from 7 days of sightseeing into 5. The guide was entertaining and informative. We found sights we would never have found otherwise. The GPS feature and accompanying narrative worked flawlessly so we were never lost or confused. I wish there was more music in between points so my iPhone wouldn't repeatedly start the first song on my phone every time we hit a lull. We can't wait to try another Kauai Shaka Tour later this week! Thank you for enriching our time here!

Mahalo!. Shaka Guide was a great way to explore Kauai and the other Hawaiian islands. We enjoyed using the “Waimea Canyon and Na Pali Coast” tour during our stay in Kauai as it allowed us to travel and explore on our own time at our own pace. Shaka Guide was very informative and kept us entertained throughout the ride. My only two complaints were the slight downtime between stops (never drastically long, but nobody likes dead silence) and the fact that Shaka Guide started to repeat some of the highlights on the way back because of their location on the map (just a little too close). Overall, I would highly recommend Shaka Guide for your next adventure around the Hawaiian islands.

One Day Is Not Enough But App Made It. We only had one day on Kauai and decided the best way to use that day was to drive as much of the island as we could. This app made our entire day! With off the beaten path beaches to best places to eat, we would have missed so much if it weren't for this app. Unlike other "island drives," this app shares the aloha of the islands and brings the culture and history right into your front seat. We met people who were using the same app and it was awesome!! Thank you so much for having something that made our brief visit meaningful. We plan on trying the Oahu guide a go. We are there all of the time but figure we are probably missing something!

Wonderful experience. We downloaded the app and purchased all four tours for the island. Absolute best decision. It led us to some great places we never would have explored. One of the best benefits was that we didn’t feel like we had to research everything ourselves. We just pushed play. We did the canyon tour 100% and the others we would use when we were on our way to or from other activities ... just to hear the fun facts. When we went to the north shore, it took us to Anini beach to snorkel and we saw dozens of sea turtles! We would have never had that experience without the app.

Enjoyable drive around Kauai. I'll have to say, as kama'aina, this app was pretty decent to use on Kauai (I also have the Oahu one ). My 8 year old loved the music (from "Lilo & Stitch" & "Moana") & getting a little bit of Hawaiian history (King Kamehameha & King Kaumuali'i) ... it was good for days where we were like "Should we drive around? Yeah!" 😊 My only issue is wanting music or more information during the "dead space" - it would make it more interesting to sing along to music about that area (e.g. my daughter, husband & I loved singing "Koke'e" on the drive down from Wai'ale'ale 🎤 I hope you will be able to do part of a tour or extend it in Poipu ... can talk story about the tunnel of trees, blowhole, etc., as it is a 6 mile drive that you can talk through as well. Mahalo for making the ride enjoyable! 🌺

Outstanding app for vacationers. Had a 1.5 day stop on Kauai last week while on a Norwegian cruise. We had a rental car, but hadn't really planned our itinerary in advance. I saw this app advertised in a magazine we got at the Hertz rental car location, so decided to take a gamble, download and give it a try. The app was wonderful. We followed its guided tour around the island and it took us to some great places we would never have known to visit. Using your phone GPS, it tells you where the next stops are and provides guidance where to turn. The narrator gave some very interesting facts (and often humorous) about different places on the island. The app was definitely worth the price. Highly recommend.

A sequel worth every penny. Our second island and our second Shaka guided trip. Cannot stop raving about it. You guys were spot on with the beaches and the rides throughout. Never needed to ask for directions. Never felt more at home than when riding along and listening to the guide take us back in time and into the spirits of the land and people of Kauaii. Tip: there were a few small stops (food/retail) that have since changed hands. Might wanna go back out and refresh some of these suggestions. Id pay for the update!!

Incredible Find!. Fun stories, historical facts and covers all the places one would like to visit. Suggestion also includes food recommendations, hidden gems along the way. Where to stop and where not to waste time for viewpoints. My teenagers were highly involved hearing Shaka guide tell stories and fun facts of Kauai. They even learned Hawaiian accent ha ha ha. The best part was it’s GPS enabled and even when our signals were choppy at the island, Shaka guided us through all the points of interest. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Hawaii! Our Hawaii trip would not have been so enjoy full without Shaka guide. Thank you!!!

Great app, needs a few things. We use the app for the Na Pali coast tour. It was a great experience. Two nice improvements would be CarPlay support as it would be nice to backup the audio with a visual of the route. The other would be Apple Family in-app purchase sharing. This is now a thing and I suspect most families would be traveling together so no “opportunity cost” to offering this. It would have allowed my wife to read through all the side info between segments. Finally, a minor one - it would have been nice to note at the first look out spot on the Na Pali tour that parking fee covers all five spots. 😊

Buggy. We downloaded Shaka Kauai after using Shaka guide for Road to Hana at Maui. That app gets 5 stars. We were so impressed by it so when we visited kauai we thought of downloading it for touring the Waimea Canyon. I could say that it has not been updated. It pointed out a waterfall and a river along side red sand, which was now dry. It multiple times it was buggy. We decided to do a hike it recommended us. It said the details of the hike would be in the highlights but we were just not able to access the highlights. At a lot of points it didn’t tell us about the turns correctly. Most importantly, the navigation really put me off. It wont redirect or zoom in or turn around if you’re going back. As a result we missed a couple of turns and while going back i had to look at the map inverse. Having used the Shaka maui app, we know this was not the best.

Fun, informative and helpful. This guide was really useful in making the most of our time. We bought a second tour after the first day. Really appreciated all the tips on driving, local food, bathrooms as well the Hawaiian cultural stories. Guide allowed us to see things we would have otherwise driven right by as well as helped us to understand what we were seeing. Highly recommend. If you have the chance to buy it in advance, advise that you listen to different parts or look at the highlights and figure out which stops you woud like to make if your timing doesn’t allow for the whole tour. Our whole family enjoyed it very much. Mahalo!

First Visit to Kauai. My husband, daughter, her friend and I all visited Kauai for the first time this past week. I happened upon this app while searching for Kauai things to do. I went ahead and purchased all 4 tours (best deal) on the Shaka Kauai app before leaving the mainland. We enjoyed all 4 tours immensely! Some we by-passed some stops but it was still nice knowing where to go and what to look for. We saw parts of the island we know we wouldn’t have seen if not for this app! I highly recommend getting it for your next trip to Kauai! You won’t be disappointed!

My family LOVES Shaka Guide!. This summer we have been lucky to spend a full month in Hawaii. Two weeks on Maui and two on Kauai. Shaka Guide, YOU have been the absolute highlight of our time here! My 12 and 13 year old sons beg to do a Shaka tour when we are deciding what to do for the day. Thank you for teaching us all this rich history that we had no idea about! Thank you for all the tips and tricks and side tours seeing things we’d have never seen. Literally every tour is a WIN. Our only sad part is that there isn’t MORE! FYI- our family has affectionate named the Shaka Guide “Shaka Bob”:) I’m not sure what your name is, but we love you Shaka Bob!!! Thanks for being our guide this summer.

The perfect guide. We originally found this app for road to Hana in Maui. When we went over to Kauai and realized they had another app we were so excited!! Shaka guide is the perfect most efficient way to see the highlights of the islands. I did a lot of research before the trip but all the little details (like where the heck is this landmark? Where do we park? Is it really worth stopping for?) were answered quickly and easily by using this app!! We did it at our own pace, freestyled a little bit and used one shore per day (north, south, east, west) and it was perfect. We might have been kind of lost without this! You won’t regret the few bucks you spend.

Shaka Kauai-well worth the purchase. First time visiting Kauai and wanted to make the most of our time so found this app. Although I was hesitant we did download it and found it to be very informative and entertaining. It was as if the narrator were sitting in the car with us. That’s how accurate the directions were. The Hawaiian folklore and island history and facts about the sights kept us all entertained while driving. The hikes and sights were amazing!! Definitely listen to narrator when describing the hikes...some can be challenging. Would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to tour/explore the island on their own.

janaleighbrandt. We had three days in Kauai and utilized three of the tours on the app. The north shore tour was our favorite, but all were great. We didn’t have time to do the Shaka west tour so we did a helicopter tour to see the west shore quickly. It was gorgeous, but we didnt get all the information and stories available with the driving shaka tours. We LOVED the concept of driving ourselves and stopping only at the places we chose. We felt like we were taken to some remote places that we would never have found in a guide book. The stories were campy and funny and informative in the best way. WAY TO GO with this product. We will use this anyplace it’s is available.

Get this app!. My husband and I recently used the Shaka app for Kauai and loved all of the driving tours. We had also paid for a guided tour on a small bus while on Oahu and regretted it. Should have done the Shaka guide there too! Don’t waste your money on a guided tour bus when you can use this app, get the same information PLUS more history, stories and helpful, interesting information about the places you’re driving by. We found the turn by turn directions to be spot on, the back stories very interesting, and overall just loved this app! Highly recommend and will most definitely use again whenever we can on our travels.

What an amazing tool to have while traveling!. This app is amazing!! My husband and I were feeling a little overwhelmed trying to figure out how to see as much of Kauai as we could, but this app makes it so easy! It’s broken Kauai into 4 drives. We completed the Waimea and Na Pali coast drive today and it was so easy! My only peeve is the transition between the navigation to the starting point and starting the actual tour. Otherwise, the points of interest were great and the directions were clear and easy to follow. I liked that the guide pointed out where restrooms were available (and there were many) and I loved the music between points of interest. Can’t wait to do the rest of the drives on Kauai!!

Awesome Driving Tour. Loved the Kauai Tour! I did the North Shore tour today and can’t wait to do the others during my week on Kauai. The tour was super entertaining and informative. The virtual guide took me places that I never would have seen on my own and not having to plan an itinerary is huge!! There was an excellent balance between driving and short hikes. The turn by turn navigation is so helpful as is the narration...I feel like Iearned so much about the island than I ever would have had I went out on my own. Basically, I had a private tour guide for a small fraction of the cost an actual guide would have charged me!!

Fundamentally flawed. It's as if your cousin went to Kauai to college and halfway through freshman year, when he knew a little but not much, he took you on a drive around the island. Directions were kinda off, facts/stories were kinda true (and some definitely not), and tone was young and occasionally questionable. DIRECTIONS - After the third time he said "turn NOW" and it was the wrong place, we just ignored his directions and looked at the map. FACTS/STORIES - Even as first-time visitors, we knew some facts were either partly or entirely wrong; lazy research or intentionally sacrificed to make a joke. STYLE - As indigenous people ourselves, we question the switch from semi-professional tone to "I'm talking like a native, so you know you're supposed to laugh at me." Did not expect to be driving around Hawaii thinking about Amos & Andy.

Must get before you head to Kauai. Trust me… just download and buy all 4 maps. My concierge recommended this app and admittedly I was skeptical about paying $30 for 4 guided map tours, but I couldn’t be happier I did. Your cell reception should be pretty good here, so this thing just works with almost no hiccups. I love the voice of the guide. I won’t spoil it, but he’s so animated and just great. We ended up using all 4 maps over 8 days. We never would have explored a 10th as much had we not had it. The Hawaiian legend stories, the history, the turn by turn directions are all amazing. What an app. I can’t wait to try Maui.

Holi Hiking Batman!. We had a fabulous time on this tour and appreciated all the stops.... we even took quite a few extra lookout stops of our own. We did the recommended trails Except for the last one in the swampland near NaPali. It truly did take the whole day and we were grateful to have packed food etc! I do wish we had access to the highlighted hikes when offline as that was not something we were able to bring up again. The Canyon Trail was epic and way longer and steeper than anticipated BUT worth the experience with nature and the gift that she gives at the peak . Unbelievable! We even enjoyed going back to the Fort for sunset and were surprised at the perfection of the view ;) I highly recommend this guided tour for all that comes with it. The stories are so informative too. I feel much more educated about this island and enjoyed the music, jokes, and leader to pave the way for us! Again if only we had access to that for the trails! Amazing way to see Kauai. This app was amazing. There is so much to see and do on this island and this app helped us see most of it. We did (most of) all four tours and in my opinion, it is the only way to experience Kauai. It allowed us to pick and choose which of the activities and sights we wanted to see and we could spend as much time at each location as we liked. The guide is awesome and makes the drive so much for fun. Between the history of of the island and all the information about the locations, there was never a dull moment!

Exceeded all expectations. This is by far the best guided tour package I’ve used. Both its content and its functionality are superb. I was very impressed with the “auto pilot” aspect of using the software - it is extremely precise in knowing where you are, guiding you through the route, and playing the content along the way (all without the need to be online). The content is both informative and entertaining at the same time. We also appreciated practical advice on places to eat and shop along the route. Overall, highly highly recommend, A+++.

Simply Awesome. I’ve never written a review of an app before but this one was simply awesome. Highly recommend. We used it for the road to Hana with my family of four (15 year old boy and 19 year old girl). They loved it. We found spots we never would have found. Waterfalls we’d never seen before and wouldn’t have known existed and swimming holes that no one knows about. Once you download the tour, the GPS works to kick in the stories and spots to see on Queue. It recommends skipping some of the more crowded spots and made our trip super efficient and enjoyable. Plus the music was fantastic. This app kept us entertained all day on the drive.

Awesome way to tour Kauai!!!. What a great app and great value! We bought the four tour package and used all four during our week long trip. It's like having you own private tour guide in th car with you telling you which way to go, history of the sites, awesome stories, and great narration. Go at your own pace and pickup the tour at any point you want. See and learn about things you would never notice, find, or know on your own. The quality of this app and the research done to make it are obvious once you start using it. Highly recommend this app.

Excellent Resource. We just got back from our first trip to HI. We heard about Shaka as we planned our trip and decided to try it out on The Big Island. From the first tour, we were hooked! It took a few minutes to figure out all the details of setting the app up and choosing our direction for the tour, but once we did, we were immediately taken to an incredible ocean overlook that we would never have known about otherwise and we used it the rest of our trip—all around both The Big Island and Kauai. Our vacation exceeded expectations because of this app and the app was totally worth the cost.

Helped us find new places to enjoy but room for improvement.. My husband, myself and my adult children have been listening to this guide. We have a few suggestions. First, we didn’t enjoy that you couldn’t just hop in and hear about where you were located more easily. It seemed like you should be able to choose between highlights with directions or just highlights. Also, we really wanted to be able to fast forward or rewind a section of the info. Also no offense but the narrators voice is a bit overpowering(maybe too Fun park). Another idea would be to have choices between outdoor fun (hiking), or museums, or shopping etc. (Maybe make them color coded so you don’t feel like you’re wasting time if you’re not into this thing or that). There were also comments about most of the stories seem depressing. (Someone seems to always die) Also it also might be a good idea to have a choice of hearing with or without music. Things we did enjoy we’re finding some great things on Kauai we never would have without the app. All in all we’ve enjoyed that the app can detect our location and give us insights. Thanks.

Really, really great, informative tour. My wife and I LOVED this. Not only that we could take things at our own pace but just how well the app worked with both giving information and directions based on GPS location. Worked SO well. I spent extra money to get a car charger and vent mount for our rental car which made it much safer/easier to follow direction-wise. Tour guide was fun and informative. There’s a nod to nature, culture, music, food and more. Today we spent 5 hours checking out waterfalls and sacred sites on Kuau’i. Plan to do another tomorrow (North side of Island). There was ONE section with some really bad dad jokes but I’m not even going to knock it for that. It was 3 jokes and, hey, the kids might like them. ;) Seriously, so grateful for this app and I really like the way it worked in pit stops at local markets. It felt good to support smaller local markets/shops and was a blessing to have a heads up on restrooms as well. Well done. Well done. Bravo team Shaka!

Fabulous App!. This app made our trip to Kauai AMAZING!! The back stories were fascinating and the directions were pretty easy to follow. We downloaded all four tours and we didn’t do everything on any of them but we did 80% of each one. We found amazing beaches, went on some stunning hikes and we loved stopping and eating local food. My husband has been to Kauai two other times and he said saw and learned more on this trip than the other two combined. I highly recommend it..just do the activities that work for you, your timeline, and what you want from it…after all, it is your vacation! Enjoy!

Best decision we made!. Purchasing the Shaka Guide Kaua’i tour was the best decision we made on our weeklong trip. We heard about it from an America Airlines stewardess and we are so grateful she lead us to the app. We feel like the guided tours gave us a thorough tour of the island and kept us away from the more touristy things to do. If we come back to another Hawaiian island the first thing we will do is download the Shaka Guide for that island. It’s like having your own personal tour guide in your car....but better because you can go at your own pace and choose what parts of the tour you wish to participate in. We’ve told everyone we’ve met about the app. It’s fantastic!

Excellent. After using Shaka Guide's excellent Road to Hana tour in Maui, I was excited to give the Kauai tours a try as well. It did not disappoint! The tour stops are interesting and beautiful. Many of them are "tried and true" tourist locations, but there are some great ones that are off the beaten path as well. We found ourselves standing on a gorgeous beach completely alone at one point. It was magical! In addition, I had a little difficulty downloading one of the tours (bad wifi connection), so I called for tech support. Even though it was a Sunday ( a day they are off business hours) someone called me back within 10 mins to make sure I got it sorted out. I was impressed!

3 great tours on Kuaui. After enjoying the Shaka tour on the Hana road last year, I enthusiastically downloaded the Kauai 4 tour package while staying with family in Honolulu. Although they have lived in Hawaii for many years, they had not been aware of your tours. The Waimea tour was our first and the directions to the many sites along the way and of course the humor made them enthusiasts as well. Second day we did the North shore and loved it as well. Today we did the Wailua valley (after relatives left) and really liked it as well. The history of Hawaii comes alive and seeing the sites at the same time as our guide is reporting is fantastic. 5 star Ono from a mainland Houle and the local family as well.

A must for Kauai!. First time using Shaka guides in Hawaii. First time on Kauai. I had downloaded the Waimea Canyon tour prior to arrival to Kauai. Enjoyed it so much then downloaded the North Shore Kauai tour trip for another fabulous adventure. The guide provides so much information and enjoyment for car rides. Technically worked so well. Had us every step of the way! I wish all apps and technology worked so well! Don’t hesitate to download and use it. I felt it lessened the car trip stress- no fighting over directions, no back seat drivers - set it and go and see the all the fabulous spots that Hawaii has to offer. Don’t forget to bring a phone car charger to keep it going!

Extremely Helpful & Informative. This is our first trip to Kaua’i so we wanted to make the most of each day here. This guide was so helpful & we were able to see so much of the island with great narration, info on parking, bathroom stops, food reconditioned & we got to see many out of the way places we would have never found in our own. I highly recommend this app for first time visitors or those who want a perfect guided tour. Can’t wait to use all 3 of the tours this week!!

Shaka Kauai. This is an awesome app! It is entertaining as well as educational. This is our first time to Kauai and it is amazing! We used one of the tours today and because of it we had a fabulous time and saved tons of money! You go at your own pace and learn and see so much! We are going to do the other tours on the rest of the days we are here. My wife and I really appreciated the passion of our tour guide and the accuracy of this app! Thanks so much for creating it! We recommend this app highly while driving and visiting Hawaii! It takes the stress out of everything and allows you to relax and enjoy!

Essential for First-Timers. This is the first trip to Kauai for my wife and I. I found the app by doing a Google search. I read the reviews and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did. The app/guide works perfectly, automatically sensing where you are and playing the accompanying audio. We discovered some amazing beaches and other places that we never would have seen otherwise. The guide is PACKED with fun facts and suggestions. The one-lane bridge etiquette and Shaka sign are just a couple of examples. My wife and I took the North Shore tour yesterday and it took us most of the day. You could easily spend 3-4 days doing everything on the list for both Kauai tours. Well-worth the money.
