Selfie restrictions for some states are state law, NOT Google. The reason some states (like Illinois and Texas) can’t use the selfie feature is because those states do not allow the collection of biometric data needed to implement the selfie feature. Don’t blame Google (it’s not some plot against middle America like some are suggesting)...just write your state legislators and get them to exempt apps like this if or (ahem) Google the work around (hint Forbes mentions it).

Take a Selfie - NOT. I just downloaded this app because I just learned about it in a news story on “Top 30”. The idea of viewing art from all over the world really appealed to me, but the “Take a Selfie . . . “ feature really intrigued me, so I downloaded the app; BUT I could not find this feature on any of the menu pages. I finally saw a statement on the product description that this feature was available only in certain areas. Huge disappointment! Why does your location affect the availability of this feature? Once I have time to explore the app’s ability to view art from around the world, I may give an updated rating.

A gimmick that could have been something great. This app could have been so much more. Google really jumped the gun and let an app that could have been an amazing resource be a social media Gimmick. First launching this app with geographic blocks was a mistake they should have waited for it to be truly ready. The fact that I can search names of master artist and it comes up missing is sad being google a search power house and last not having the experiments imbedded and launching you off the app is just being lazy. Again this app could be great but right now is a viral gimmick!!!

Amazing. So appreciative that this app exists. What generosity that Google even created this, to have this accessibility to art without leaving your home. And they way in which they present it isn’t just “here’s some art, look at it”, you can project masterpieces with your phone on to your own wall, get into sometimes hidden detail of what makes Rembrandt a genius, take virtual tours of the Prada! Almost a crime if you don’t use it.

Good App but Technical Issues are Annoying. There’s a wide plethora of artwork just waiting to be found in this app and I’m happy Google is paving the way for people to connect with that. The interactive stories are great and I love the feature that allows you to find artwork similar to the ones you favorite over time. That being said, I am seeing an extremely annoying technical issue that prevents you from scrolling anything past the games section. This is unfortunate because this pretty much limits my experience in the app in half. Not only that, my favorite aspect of the app (that which allows you to find artwork based on your favorites) is *past* the games section where the issue arises. It’s a great app for art and art history lovers but this “problem occurred, reloading page” issue is frustrating and brings my rating down a couple of pegs.

The beginnings of something wonderful. The exploration of art never ceases to amaze me. This app takes my initial curiosity and expands it into a practical setting. Seeing museums that I may never experience in person, and immersive views into pieces not contained in any one place allows this app to flourish with a fluidity that cannot be matched by visiting any one institution. Here’s to further expansion and building upon what seems to be the potential for a massive catalog of art, bravo.

Hope Selection and Quality Grows. I have used this app for some time now and it’s another google service/app I enjoy. I do hope the selection can continue to grow and be expanded. With the latest high end devices showing HD and QHD/UHD pictures/videos I hope the works are available in that. This is the only chance many people will have to see these works.

These reviews are hilarious. I like everyone else am downloading to use the selfie portion of the app. I don’t know yet if I can yet because this whole location restriction thing but the fact that people are so upset by it is hilarious. Someone is so upset that they spent “lost” fifteen minutes of their time trying to find a place to use it. Are you kidding me? You ran around for fifteen minutes trying to make something that will have no impact on your life or anyone else just so you can’t post it on social media?? 🤣

Love it, but could be a little faster. It’s a beautiful app, love the idea and already very simple to use. You can learn about artists, art movements, the art itself, and much much more. You are able to save your favorite art pieces to collections and explore to find new ones. Overall I love it so much but the connection and wait time could be improved. Like when you click to go on another page it will take awhile or sometimes never even go. Something minor though, it’s a great app!

It’s okay. I recommend this app for anyone interested in an immersive art experience. There are a lot of tools that allowed you to explore famous artworks, and even a feature that lets you incorporate yourself into a famous piece of art. I had some issues with this app, though. I downloaded it for science class and there was a tool that allowed you to go inside the lungs. It was interesting but very glitchy. Also, some of the features are difficult to understand and sometimes it is hard to find certain features. I give this app a three out of five.

Used to love the app but hate this update. I haven’t updated the app for a while but I finally got undated version and I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS. I loved exploring random articles, the layout and how unique it was. Now it looks horrendos and sterile and looks like any other app online. It lost its identity and spark. It’s just a google app w random art article which I can gust google rather then story telling like previous format was. Please please bring it back or give people an option to opt in to an old format.

Chicago restricted?. In general, this app is pretty cool and the information is quite interesting. My only issue is that I cannot do this portrait/selfie search ("first-world" problem, I know) and I understand that it's restricted in some areas. I cannot find a list of where this feature is restricted, but I live in Chicago and it is not available. Just to make sure, I searched for possible (troubleshooting) strategies just to verify that this feature should be available in this city and haven't found anything other than review comments.

Bad update?. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I can tell there’s no more explore feature where a user can choose mediums, artists, time periods, etc., to organize and sift through pieces. It seems that the two buttons at bottom left from the Home Screen simply now both lead to newsfeeds/curated content that a user can just scroll through. Where is the function to filter works to parameters now located? I’m not referring to the search bar to look for particular pieces or artists, but the ability to discover new works and artists according to user-set parameters

Wow! What a resource!!. Google Arts and Culture is an amazing resource - a treasury of links to over 1,000 international museums, galleries and cultural institutions. The entire site is searchable in many cases in a variety of ways- alphabetically, chronologically, geographically, and by medium. As an educator I am awed and excited by its potential for use in every curriculum area! As an everyday person I get caught up in exploring and learning every single time I open the app. I am transported to far away places, caught up in the beauty of innumerable works of art, and educated by the “stories” that are included.

Legal Fail. Is Google becoming big brother?. Google needs to own up to what they’re doing with biometric face scans, and either address the issue with Texas residents or remove the feature altogether. Banning an entire state from using the features on their app is exclusionist, and I doubt if Google’s intentions were pure that they would refrain from simply including a legal notice for Texas residents (based on state laws, TX residents have the right to know what biometric face scans are used for; Google refuses to comply with this, and instead they just opted out entire LARGE state out of this app’s premier feature.) I’ve never been disappointed in a Google product—until now (okay, Google+ sucked too). I’m considering trading in my Google Home for an Apple Speaker, if Google doesn’t improve transparency with its users. This is absurd.

I’m giving it the BotD bc they’re still working on it, but there are still flaws with it.. The stories are interesting, but navigating the app is rather difficult. Also, I noticed a lot of African American art, but it was hard to find African art. It’s there, it’s just not in one of the main collections. Also, I wish there was more to the fashion collection. In regards to everyone’s displeasure with the face recognition portion of the app, I do agree that the “select locations” seem to have been chosen arbitrarily, but I feel that people would be a lot less upset if we were told which locations that part of the app actually functions.

Slightly annoyed, but overall super cool!. So here, I, like a majority of others, have downloaded this app for the selfie thing which seems super cool! Sadly, for some reason Chicago doesn’t have access to it yet which is a bummer. But I’m not that upset cause I actually really dig art and I think this app has a ton of awesome things to read about and whatnot. So, while not being able to match my face to a famous painting is annoying, it definitely wasn’t the end of the world.

For the curious only!. The absolutely astounding amount of fabulously prepared resources available at one’s finger tips in this app is mind bending. Whether it is just the casual browsing of vast collections of museums from all corners of the world, the casual immersion in random topics which just serve the purpose of testing one’s interest to intimate exploration of a epoch - be prepared to be blown away. Be warned: save to your favorites often; sites, museums you visit, artists, historical periods. It really is a challenge to remember all the magic you will find here. And it is here….

This makes you art so hard. I’ve never arted so hard in my life. after getting this app I literally arted everywhere !! I couldn’t even contain the art that was coming out of me! i’ve arted my pants, I’ve arted at work, and I art everywhere now. One time I arted sooo hard that I had to pull over ! My girlfriend (well ex now) would get so jealous watching me art all over the place, so she left me. She called me ‘disgusting’ because I’d art so much around her. Arting in public has become one of my new found hobbies. So thanks google, I never new I could art so much in my life.

Missing a lot. This app would be great, if it had more. If you are looking for something in particular chances are they don’t have it. A lot of the stuff on here is impressionistic and abstract, doesn’t have any classical art. Not everyone wants to see starry night blown up in your face. Also the way the app works is very weird, if you click return it brings you back to the home page. If you look something up you get a bunch of random stuff like old photos of random people, why?

Needs a lot of work. Excellent app in theory however the programming needs a lot of work. Very poor in app functionality such as moving smoothly between images and back to previous menu pages, landscape view is off, when zooming into images you are then unable to continue scrolling to next image without first returning to previous page. Also, many artist pieces are missing. I scrolled through all of the Surrealism pieces looking for Salvador Dali and did not find a single piece by him. Then when I go to Dali’s page on your app, there are barely any of most famous pieces. That is the case for many artists offered on this app. Another example would be Hieronymous Bosch. If these things were all corrected, you would have an excellent app and I will happily change my rating.

Google Arts and Culture. The Google Arts and Culture application is the type of application people who are curious about the cultures of the world dream of. To start off the design is in balance with a clear color background and minimal text regarding categories and article titles. Users can easily navigate the main sections of the app from the bottom tab. The app can also be used in various ways whether consuming information from the content provided which ranges from classical artworks articles on historical figures, science as well as a range of other topics. The app can be used to create content by way of galleries the user constructs. The app can even be seen as a observational lens through use of Virtual Reality and Selfies. A short review can’t do this application justice. It is well worth a download just for the ability to enrich your imagination.

Fun, informative app. I like this app. I can explore something different each time and look up so many works. The AR Vemeer gallery is great! I like that I can search on women artists and their works come up. There are two things I wish for: —That a search on “women artists” or “impressionists” would also return a list of the artists —That Eleanor Brickdale, a pre-Raphaelite artist whose “The Little Foot Page” inspired the pageboy haircut, would be added

Slow and lacking, but has hidden potential. Unfortunately, even on new devices, the app is slow. It has the hallmarks of being a Web site inside an app wrapper: slow on current devices, poor navigation, and frustrating inconsistencies. It's difficult to skim articles or to share specific sections of long articles because they are presented as slides rather than pages. Artifact pages don't link directly to the articles that have context about them, nor do they have that context in the artifact's description. It seems to lack works from artists within the last century. Google has plenty of money to license these works if need be, assuming it does not fall under fair use in the first place. Some art from important figures is absent, including, e.g., many of Robert Mapplethorpe's works. There doesn't seem to be a way to suggest art to add to the collection. There doesn't seem to be a way for artists to contribute their work, either. There is much potential here if Google would make a native application using the look and feel of iOS (rather than shoehorning their own UI language onto it) and vastly increase the size of their collection.

A very odd experience for an iPad Pro user. Nothing is wrong with the content itself; but I haven’t even been using the app for more than ten minutes and I would say the overall usability is… strange. For one, there’s no ‘dark’ mode. I study art even while I’m in bed, which makes it important for me to be able to use dark mode as a way to avoid the extra eye strain. Secondly, there’s no way for me to go back to the homepage! I don’t know if this experience is exclusive to the iPad; but you would think that having a back button would be the norm for all apps - especially those produced by one of the largest companies on the internet. When I enter my settings, I don’t see any way to access the homepage. There is no quick access menu anywhere onscreen. Swiping anywhere across the screen to switch back also does not work. I would have to go back to the main page by exiting the app and forcing it to close. I highly recommend the app for the art itself, but the UX needs work. If the app missed having these two basic functions (which could be noticed in minutes) i don’t doubt that the issues stop there.

Didn’t get to compare myself. I guess my location doesn’t allow me to find my old school doppelgänger. However! This app is the coolest thing I’ve come across in a long time! To see all the art it has to offer for you to explore and get lost in is breath taking. Much better reads the social media accounts and the same repetitive news articles. I’m so excited to keep exploring this app and the museums within it!

Explore the World from Home. This is a slick app. Most well-known is the museum doppelgänger feature, which was fun to experiment with. Then, I checked out some of the other features and had a pleasant time exploring the British Museum and Versailles in the street view section. The only thing that could make that part of the app better would be if it could track the movement of your device, and it could be like actually walking around those places. Constantly pressing the arrows to move a few feet was a little clunky, but it was still fun.

Zoom in feature.. Great app but one aspect of it that I like on the iPhone is that you can zoom in and really see the details of the art work. Unfortunately on the iPad it doesn’t let you zoom in. I don’t know if this is a glitch that needs to be fixed or what. I use this feature a lot to study art and become a better artist myself, and to be able to use this tool on a bigger screen instead of a phone would be ideal. I hope you take this into consideration. Thank you

Please fix search engine. I love this app and use it fairly often I also love the widget so you can see new work everyday. I would ask that you please fix the search engine often when looking for watercolor works the medium is gouache and although they are similar it is not the same. I would also like to be able to search different mediums for an artist most artists don’t just work with one medium.

poor search and content organization. it is unbelievable how poor the search is in a google app of all things! if i try to search for “van Dongen”, in results, i won’t see Kees van Dongen’s page at all! you have to type the name in full and without errors, like it’s 1998 and the organization of information is very disappointing. the first thing i saw today when i downloaded and opened this app is a crossword. not a picture/statue/whatever of the day, but a crossword. because, i guess, that’s what people interested in art are really looking for, right?

Bugs, no way to report them. I’m having trouble viewing the AR material, as there are two persistent windows—the initial explanatory one and the one about turning on sound that says “got it?”—on top that won’t go away. Also, scrolling down in galleries covers up text. There’s no place to report these. The two places it looks like should work do not. Maybe this was messed up in the last update; I only downloaded the app yesterday, so I don’t know whether it worked right before. What I have been able to see is beautiful.

Generally really great, but has problems. Besides missing art by certain artists And the complete lack of certain types of art Like illustration for example The biggest problem that I've dealt is definitely the resolution / the quality of the pictures of the art With every painting a look at, the picture is always a little grainy / a low a quality image, unless i zoom into it, then the image suddenly jumps in detail and quality, so i know they have a high quality version available somehow, but i can only see it when I'm zoomed in / unable to look at the full painting Its really annoying, and I've seen other art apps that don't have this problem, even if their image quality takes a second to load Please fix it!! Other than that stuff, great app 👏👏👌

Could be great. Ignoring the whole selfie fiasco, this app could be great but seems to be incredibly glitchy/unpolished. There’s not a cohesive experience with clicking read more and viewing related content and then trying to click back into the original post - it’s like the app is unsure how to handle each interaction. I end up back in the original list/search far too often. Feels like G put their C team on this one, which is unfortunate since it could open a whole lot of eyes (including my own) to great art.

NOT actually art for all 😡. 😡😡😡IRONIC to create an app that is art for all and then exclude millions of people (Texas and Illinois) not to mention the amount of money invested in art in Chicago, Dallas and Houston, which is where I live. Google did you run out of funding fo this project? I’ve been using gmail since it was in beta testing but I will disown you, you will no longer be invited into my home, to holiday dinners AND I’m writing you out of my will. I put this app in the garbage where it belongs. Since I’m an artist who feels i could get a lot of use out of this app, i am willing to forgive you, but expect and explanation. I am out for blood on this google, and don’t handle FOMO well.

Excellent content but clumsy navigation. Lots and lots of really high-quality pictures of artwork with great resolution so you can really zoom up close and see detail; this is cool particularly with paintings because you can see the brush strokes and detail. But the problem is this is it’s clumsy to get around it. if you press the back button while viewing art you are in never Ever land. And there’s lots of duplicates. But the pictures are really fantastic so go with that

Location Restriction. Echoing what many have said about the location restriction on the selfie feature. I can understand Google didn’t expect the selfie feature to go viral and were thus unprepared. However, the limited access was not clearly communicated and the fact that it seems the coastal cities got access and middle America did not seems misguided. Overall, like the way the app allows you to interact with art and exposes you to art you’re not familiar with. The UI and overall experience seems on par with Google’s other great products. One last point of feedback would be to incorporate even smaller art institutions. I live in Chicago and the many diverse art institutions of the city are not well represented.

Compare your selfies to famous works of art. Yeah do disappointing. The app went viral basically but I can’t access it cause of my location? You wasted my time! Why would you do that? I live in a Chicago suburb called Lisle. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and maybe I’m just not finding it??? So please Google show me where to find it... “compare your selfies to famous works of art”. I downloaded your app...Arts and Culture” and wasted lots of time trying to find it. And if I can’t access from my location... then I think that’s a shame!

Slightly Disappointed But Otherwise An Amazing App. On one hand I am slightly disappointed that I am not able to use the selfie feature in the state that I live in. However, this app has caught my attention for a few weeks now because it’s amazing options for viewing art. It allows me to go into a 360° environment and be able to look around at the artwork. I really enjoy using this app and I hope that someday in the near future they will be able to install the portrait comparison in the areas that it has restricted.

No, the selfies don’t always work. To selfie or not to selfie is a legal issue. Does Google want to deal with the necessary disclosures about facial identification in your state or is it easier to just not allow the function in your area? I’ve read you can tell the App Store your location is different then it is but it’s on you to figure it out. Sorry. I didn’t think I’d need it. I’d like to choose photos from my camera roll for some features, especially pets, especially my dear departed ones. I’m sure I’ll figure something out but I’d rather have it be easy.

Selfie option DOES work!. I'm not sure why people are writing reviews, saying that the selfie option doesn't work, because it worked perfectly fine for me. It took me two seconds to scroll down the home page, find the selfie option, read about how it is new and experimental, take a selfie, and find pieces that resembled me. Maybe it only works on certain devices, but as the owner of an iPhone 6, I assure you, the selfie option works phenomenally. Also, there are countless informational texts and articles regarding art(ists). This app is amazing and I 10/10 recommend!

Omg I love this app!. It always brightens my day. So much to learn and explore. I love it and always forget about it but once I open the app I’m in heaven. I love that you can save favorite articles or pictures. There are so many ways to appreciate art within the app so it can fit any need or style of learning and enjoyment. It’s endless! I feel like I never have enough time to browse but there’s constant information so I don’t feel like I missed out on anything, it just keeps coming. Love it!!

Love it. I’ve been kind of bored with all my apps and I’ve been looking for something more informational. I have oodles of art pos and they’re great, it’s awesome to just browse through art. This app takes it further and provides so much incredible information and learning on all kinds of art. I haven’t been able to tear myself away from this app and have actually found myself clicking on this over Twitter, fb, instagram, etc.

Cool; but full screen art please!. Please allow us to view the art image full screen in retina mode (high dpi) with black borders. The text menus at the top distract when you just want to take in the piece of art. Simple fast (cached) pinch-to-zoom in this mode would make examining brush strokes and details great! I really like the idea of this app. Clearly an immense amount of work and resources have been dedicated to this; which I appreciate. The informative text and background info is awesome. But the interface feels clunky; like a web site from a decade ago.

Excellent App. This app is wonderful. Anything you’re interested in, you can spend hours finding out more & more about it. Places you’ve never seen before, you can see them here. I never imagined I would learn so much from this app. The games are fun too, and a good way to get involved with the subject. I hope this app continues to exist forever, and that it continues getting updates. This app is a good way to spend your time.

A great potential unrealized. So broad and comprehensive it is unusable; you might as well use the internet. If you want specificity, like favorite paintings by favorite artists, Pinterest is more functional. The only competitive advantage this has is geographic locations. Let’s say I want to revisit the Louvre, well this works well for museum tours. Hundreds of thousands of items and articles presumes you have infinite time and no plan. If you like to meander endlessly without goal or outcome, other than killing time, than this is for you. If you want to create order and structure out of your artistic preferences and explore undiscovered items similar to what you love, skip this app. I am going to give it another week and then either delete it or revise the review. Let’s see.

Fine for art, not for the face match feature. Like most, I downloaded this app to use the portrait face match feature. I was able to use it once, but then when I got back into the app later in the day the feature was no longer available. I understand that it is only available in certain locations but I don’t understand why it worked in my location (OKC) in the morning and then it disappeared in the afternoon. My husband’s phone still has the feature so that makes it even more confusing. Despite that major screw up with the face match capability, it is a cool app if you have any interest in art.

A terrible app to navigate!. It’s so disappointing to learn about this app’s wonderful content yet so frustrating to navigate around numerous works of art, a user experience that doesn’t measure up to Google’s reputation. Firstly, no direct link is available for eager learners to tap on an artwork to learn about its background. One has to jump through different hurdles simply to find basic background information. Secondly, artworks aren’t organized into different genres or time periods, and users have to jump back and forth to search for works of the very same artist. Why not make it as simple as a music playlist to learn and search artwork?

Best app in existence. I was stunned by the vastness of this app —it could be called Humanity or the World. It’s certainly not limited to art. You can go on 3D virtual visits not just to every museum in existence but to important sites- Machu Piccu, Barcelona, Stonehenge, you get the drift. For a history & archaeology buff, it is tops. You can spend hours wandering around in here . There’s fun stuff too - it will find artworks with people that resemble you or give you artworks with your favorite color predominent. Even if math is your thing, there’s plenty to keep you busy. Learn about perspective in innovative ways. See similarities in artworks and crafts from disparate cultures, sometimes hundreds of years apart-and don’t forget symbols. Maybe the meaning of mankind is in here somewhere. This is Google at it’s absolute best.

No good reason for Google to limit portrait feature.. Update: apparently the state of Texas is not able to get the selfie portrait feature? There’s no good reason why Google needs to limit this by location. Make all content available for all, Google; we can handle it... I scrolled down the homepage repeatedly, searched in the search bars, opened different parts of the app, and still didn’t find it. This is representative of the user experience of this app, generally—it’s not easy to browse or search. I would expect better from Google, but the organization of this project feels a bit like an afterthought compared to the content.

Works janky. This is a hit or miss. Sometimes there is a back button at the top left corner to return to the previous page. Sometimes not. I can’t tell you the amount of times I had to turn to the main page of this app to re-search the location I was just in. For example; explore by places. Click on a location from the list. Now try to go back. Yep no back button so you have to go back to Home again, click Places, sort by alphabetical...again and scroll ..again. Cmon this is 2021 Some galleries also don’t allow you to zoom in on the artwork. This is especially stupid if the artwork is what looks like to be the size of my iPhone....on my 12.9’ iPad Pro. I did not buy this giant iPad to view small pictures that don’t allow me to zoom in.

Meh. Came here on a review of a great work and a face match app that seems to be the latest fad. Neither work nor entertaining face match exist, at least not to Australian viewers... had a browse but can find far more comprehensive details online or art books with app.

👎 selfies not available in AUS. That being said it’s a good apps just expand it fam

Add renaissance drawings and split view capabilities please. Would like to see more high quality digitised versions of old master drawings, the current google art collection is lacking in such great and fine pieces of old.... Enabling spilt view capability and night view theme alternatives would be a wonderful and useful feature for users and will be welcome updates! More options such as searching and filtering by art movement/culture/time period categories will also be welcome function updates ie, impression, renaissance, 1700s, europe/asia/africa etc or even by specific countries or broad styles ie, traditional european/Asian /indian etc... Thank you, hope to see more future content additions and enhancements and really hope for those feature/function additions updates for a better and more enjoyable ux!

:(. I can’t find the “is your portrait in a museum” feature, which is why I downloaded it in the first place. However, there’s lots of wonderful art on this app.

Fabulous but disappointing. I can’t seem to find the feature to “find your portrait in the museum.” Is this not available in countries outside the US, like Australia? Sad it’s not. It does seem like a fantastic app otherwise, very informative!

Nice marketing. Poor delivery. Came for the history facematch option and it’s nowhere to be found.

Excellent content, but too many bugs. I’m very happy with the content on here, but the issue for me is it often has problems when zooming in on artworks. Once you’ve zoomed in, it usually won’t zoom out fully and you can’t get back to the full screen view with the information and other text about artwork. Sometimes it just freezes entirely, meaning you have to restart the app, which can be very frustrating when go through a gallery or artist with large numbers of artworks. I’ve had been using the Google Art & Culture website for many years and was happy, except for the same issue. I only downloaded this app in the hope it wouldn’t have the zoom problems. Please address in an update, this should be a relatively simple fix for google developers.

Great app but please, don't cut features.... This app deserves 5-stars but I gave it 1-star for one simple reason - different versions in different countries. I installed it partly for the selfie-face-matching feature that's been so widely talked about only to find that they haven't included that feature in the Australian version. Thanks heaps for letting everyone except the US of A down Google.

Face matching not on all downloads. If you’re downloading this to do the face match don’t bother: it doesn’t always come as part of this app. For some reason they’ve advertised it but programmed it so only some people get that feature. Waste of phone storage space, everything else is available on the website.

Great app. Great app but I would like to see more high quality paintings

Horrible. Can’t find the portrait program.. not only that the app is absolutely horrible. Glacially slow to load and scroll. I’d expect that for an amateur app but this is google??!?

Wonderful but limited by solipsism. The app you have is good and offers many new ways to see a painting if one is limited to accessing the painting in a museum. This is game-changing and needs to be commended. Positives: 1. Zoom in to see the greater detail. Wonderful! 2. Deep dive into Hokusai’s famous Great Wave. Amazing! 3. Research Renaissance period pieces in context, with high quality Google imagery. Thank you. Here’s the big distraction element (for a child or any younger people using the app): - Find a painting based on your selfie. I understand and believe in the power of using egocentrism to get even the most distracted people involved in art viewing. The practice of looking at artwork is personal, so at times can be soul-stirring and challenging but then at other times it takes awhile for me to click into it. However, explain to me how comparing a selfie of someone is helpful when comparing it to an 18th century painter? What are the benefits other than creating a gimmick. In the best light, I will be encouraged to see younger students to engage in art on this app in response to a selfie they took painting it in their style of a chosen artist based on the algorithms Google uses to select the selfie image. That will be a 5-star worthy app in my eyes. Best, Lewis

Good... But. I downloaded this app in search of the portrait matching feature. Though, I was pleasantly surprised with all of the apps other features. I will continue to use this app because of those features, but since I am in Australia the portrait matching feature is not available to me! A five star app if you add this feature to other countries. I wonder if it will be available soon. If you can get back to me that would be great. Cheers

Arts!. Why has no one told me about this app before? It’s simply the best resource for artists and art appreciators alike. Also no one cares about your face being matched, go be narcissistic somewhere else.

Can't find portrait finder. The portrait finder part that everyone is going on about is missing?? I scrolled down all the way and I can't find it. I have an iPhone se so I'm thinking that's the problem. Please fix this!

Have just started exploring Love It. This app is beautifully curated, fascinating and so diverse. There is so much to see. I Wish I had more time to use it. It’s also a worthy contribution to the arts in general and to be applauded.

Limited art selection. I just wanted to be able to save and view my favourite art pieces, it seems like they only have the most popular/ significant art pieces saved to the app.

Disappointed.... Disappointed to find the selfie tool missing or not available in Australia.. No mention of it in version history either..!

Lockdown Support. When Australia was in lockdown, I couldn’t achieve my dream - to travel and explore countless worldwide museums and art galleries! But this app helped a lot - with virtual tours, games and rewards, Google Arts & Cultures is amazing. I recommend it for anyone struggling with the COVID crisis.

Uhhh where’s the selfie portrait matching feature?. Why would you remove it?

Buggy. Full of bugs crashes almost everytime i use it

Nevermind that grump!. Yes it’s a great educational tool but let’s face it: the selfie feature is awesome and loads of fun. Facial recognition datamining rocks!

Where is the selfie function????. Cannot find the selfie function!!!!

Can’t find the portrait in a museum part!. Yo, downloaded the app to use the section where you can find your portrait in a museum.. it’s not on the app the option isn’t anywhere I’ve been through it several times. Looks like people are having the same issue, update ASAP plz :)

Room for improvement?. On-paper functionality doesn’t often translate into user-friendly, experiential orgasm.

Lookalike picture upload. Would be great to be able to upload a pic from my phone gallery rather than taking a selfie

where’s face match?. a nice app but the feature that everyone is looking for (face match) can’t be found for everyone (including me). people say it should be on the home page but I and many others can not find it anywhere. please update so that we can all find it.

Great for all art lovers. This app opens a whole new world of different arts for everyone. Really great.

Pointless. Downloaded it for the matching selfie feature and it didn't have it. Everything else can be found online.

Something for everyone. We just love this app

Good so far. I’ve only used the app for three minutes before I was prompted for the friggin feedback - so how it can be accurate is beyond me – but the picture matching was a bit of a laugh, though I think you need to improve on your algorithms if you would really like any credibility good luck with those suggestions

A Brilliant Time Waster!. I have just discovered this app through a friend. How amazing to be able to access all of these museums and galleries across the world with links to information and video clips etc. I am enthralled!

Nice app. Pros: Zoom in on art works, great informative app. Cons: Very glitchy, navigation throughout app often freezes up. fix the issues and it will be a fantastic app

Face match not found...good otherwise. Interesting app. Worth an exploration. The reason I downloaded isn’t anywhere though. Where’s the face match function?

Where is the face match part of the app?. Downloaded this so I can take a selfie and see which painting I look like - but that feature is nowhere to be found. Is it because I’m in Australia or is this a fantastical scam to increase downloads and popularity of this app? If so, well played I guess. If not, hurry up and update it so that all users can have fun with this highly publicised feature.

Keeps reloading page. Not sure where all the 5 stars cone from. When I try to view the Klimt slideshow on an iPhone 6 it has a problem loading the page and continually reloads. So I’ve no idea if the slideshow is any good. At the moment I have to classify as junk.

cool app, needs dark mode. i would like to use the app more, its 2am and my eyes hurt from the bright white colour scheme. I really appreciate the devs who work on this, thank you.

Fabulous! Love it!. I just downloaded and use it to see oil painting; after 1min, totally love this app and shared it with ALL my friends! Great job Google!

Wonderful….and keep going further Google.. This app is already awesome, it appears to have the potential to be and do much more as an educational and cultural device/platform of engagement, particularly in these times of isolation, and the need to pay strong attention to energy use and travel. I really hope Google invest more into this application….one of those things could be a campaign to help it be wider known. My kids, and my wife and I love this app. Best wishes to all.

Face match?. Where is the face match option??? Very frustrating.

Great app but it keeps freezing. I recently downloaded this app (admittedly initially for the selfie likeness) but then I discovered all the other wonderful features, like street view photos for artist etc), which is wonderful for artistic people like me. However, I’ll be in the middle of reading something and then it freezes and I can’t even swipe it or close the app. Otherwise, it’s a great way to travel without costing a cent!

Dark Mode!!. The app is ok, but it’s needs dark mode, it’s impossible gaze art with a bright white.

Totally amazingly interrsting but buggy as hell here. please improve the functionality, and somehow make this beast less thirsty, some back buttons here and there, you know the stuff that makes apps great. is google designing itself to death or what? such a great app but really inconsistent, camera sometimes works sometimes does not! maybe its the internet connection, frustrating even with this spankin new 2020 ipad.

6.2 out of 10. It’s ok it’s not great. You should be able to upload pictures too. My real issue though - it keeps telling me I look like an old man 😳 I am youngish and female. So yes - average and a hint boring too.. well it might be funny for 7 minutes if you were on crack or something

Cheesy rubbish. the arrows they stick on top of the art are distracting and ugly- and the zoom widget, can't be hidden. Why can't I view the art in full screen without the pollution of graphics on top ?, also I find the presentation very tabloidy and click bait_ like it's cheesy and over processed over produced, Google and art don't mix

Why limit this feature by location??. Downloaded for the selfie matching feature. Sigh. Another feature or product not available in Australia. Waste of time.

Portrait match function missing in Aus?. When will this be available?

Ugh. Makes me furious to see everyone only downloading for the “selfie” feature and not the art..

Really Good. My favourite google app :) Fantastic if you love art, history and photography. I'm very happy :) :)

Disappointed. Downloaded to access the selfie portrait feature but was not to be found anywhere. Is this not accessible to other countries?

Seems like a good concept. I downloaded this app for my EDUC class. I was able to compare 2 photos to arts in a museum. Unfortunately, after that, every time I click on a photo in my gallery to compare it to art prices, the app crashes and boots me out. Please fix this! This is the main function we’re using the app for in my class!

Best New Addition To My Phone. Found by accident, and am so happy. I love everything about the things this app offers me. I don’t have access to many museums in a 500m radius, so the views and art this opens up to me are very welcome.

How do I use?. Everyone is using this app to find paintings that look like themselves but no where on the app does it let you do that. Since it’s so popular, don’t you think it would be smart to put it right at the front? I can’t even dig and search for it idk how to do it. 0/10 kinda useless.

stupid. i downloaded it to try the art selfie feature but it only lets you take a selfie right then and there not choose one from your camera roll. why? for what? i look so ugly right now i don’t want to take a selfie and get shown what ugly paintings i look like. this is insulting

Amazing. This is what technology was made for. The joy and opportunity this app offers is wonderful. Thank you

The app is a virtual museum to me.. I really love this app. It’s a virtual museum to me and it has helped me gain a lot of knowledge about art and culture. It’s a pleasure to visit this app everyday as I could travel to the museums from all over the world.

Just 2 suggestions. 1. can you make all games and labs available for Canada? 2.(if I can’t suggest labs, that’s ok) i’m suggesting a lab where we can make wonderful sheet music that plays a wonderful piece just from a little bit of text

Much of it never loads. Pictures that are referenced from museum websites never load.

Cool. It’s pretty interesting, the feature that lets you find a portrait that looks like you is right there on the home page. You just need to scroll down and make sure to read fine print descriptions on the different links.

Splendide. J’aime beaucoup ce site que je trouve facile a explorer Merci Google

Love. Love looking at all the art work when I cannot travel around the world to see it!

Selfies are easily accessible. First of all, this is an app that allows you to explore the world of art. For that, it is excellent. And if you want the selfie function, it’s right there on the “front page.” It also works in Canada.

Don’t use in Canada. This app is geolocked and you cannot use the popular find your portrait feature in Canada. What a waste of time.

Selfie search does not work. The search isn’t available, even though I downloaded from the Canadian store.

Great, but.... Version 7.5.xx removed the 360 view from streetview when moving your phone around (but you can still move around by touching the screen), which was one of the best features of this app. Please bring it back. (Still not working on ios 13.5)

wont open. keeps crashing whenever i try to open it

Jk. Jk it’s not worth 5 stars

Where is the selfie feature???. It’s not working

Why it no wok. Wen mi downroard an den open it no wok

Manque d’information. Je trouve qu’il n’y a pas beaucoup d’informations sur les personages historiques

Great App. Great concept, really like using the app and actually have seen similarities with photos I’ve taken even in the dark. Pretty cool and recommended for fun and knowledge.

Came for the selfies. Stayed for the info.. I genuinely got the app to see whether my portrait was in a museum. I haven’t found that aspect of the app yet, but I ended up keeping the app for the easily accessible and organized information curated to various artists, cultures, issues etc.

Would recommend 100%. I’ve been trying to find the best portraits of me as an art piece and I’ve found wonderful results. I have to admit that I am a woman and I do get many man paintings, but it is very enjoyable and funny to see all of that.

Crash crash crash. This app can show some fantastic art, but trying the enhanced features either does nothing or causes it to crash.

disappointing. I don’t see much of andy warhol’s work, you guys should get on that! maybe make a authentication program, google should be on top of digitizing art as fast as possible. high res, everything. hit me up if you need help

Wow, Arts & Culture!!!. This is great. I can see paintings from different times, i can also compare me with famous people!

Not in Canada. There are features that you can’t use in Canada, most of which are designed to work with your own photos. Disappointing.

Blob. Opera

Mistake. That is not Cienfuegos, Cuba. It is Campeche, Mexico.

Difficult to navigate and can’t send to smart TV. As above.

Ty. Perfecto thanks!

Not giving me the selfie option. Pretty unhappy - multiple users around me are taking selfies / no one van figure out why I can’t

Not opening the app!!. This is bogus! I don’t know why this is happening but for some reason the app wouldn’t let me in the app, all it keeps saying “we have an error refreshing” sorry but I’m not recommending this app

Please add dark theme. Thanks!. Enabling dark theme would bring focus to the art, and also being easier on the eyes. Otherwise great app.

Selfie Feature. Apparently the selfie feature is not available in Canada. 10/10 would uninstall again.

Modal dialog begging for a rating? That’s a paddling.. Instead of opening to the linked resource, the app asked for a rating.

Portrait selfie feature not available. How do you not have this feature in Canada. Why isn’t it available in every country? Won’t be reinstalling until its available. Very disappointing.

Not worth downloading at this point. New version’s big feature (art selfie 2) doesn’t work. Continually fails. Good thing it didn’t cost anything.

Not all features present for everyone. I wish I could give this zero stars

Missing the very feature I got it for. Why can I not find the selfie search in the art collection?

Crashes rather than casts. Overall poor performance on iPad

Historiques. Les musées de l’évolution des historiques du monde de la planète des sciences naturelles de la planète invisible. La conscience invisiblement de la planète interprétée par les historiques...

Invasion of your privacy, as usual. Yeah, I don't think so Google - De-installed. "When you use our services or view content provided by Google, we automatically collect and store certain information in server logs. This includes: telephony log information like your phone number, calling-party number, forwarding numbers, time and date of calls, duration of calls, SMS routing information and types of calls."

Looking for the “selfie” feature. Can’t find it

Simply Brilliant!. This app is a must have for everyone that wishes to deepen his culture. Great work!

I want an art selfie!!. Why can’t I get a dang selfie comparison with art? Where did that go? Seriously the only reason I wanted this app.

Trash. Literally the worst thing made it’s a useless piece of trash I would rather get every disease then even open this app

Region-locking? Come on. This would be such an amazing app if it wasn’t for the region lock. Please get the message, based on all your reviews, and change it.

Rendre l’art accessible. La création de Google Arts est tout simplement géniale. Ses sujets, ses reportages, ses artistes, sont variés et rend l’art et la culture accessible à tous. Bravo! Continuez, on aime ça ainsi.

Amazing. Interesting, engaging and educational. Super super app. Endless hours of actual brain training.

Silicon Valley once again writing off rural America. Every time I visit a major city I go to museums, I studied art for my first year in university, I am a maker. This app seems like an awesome tool to view art, and being able to search a large swath of collected works with just a subject or keyword is really cool. But everyone hates features that are regionally exclusive. Small towns and big cities, we all like to participate in the same ways. There is no excuse for leaving people out in an industry that flaunts its apparent commitment to inclusivity. Google... get it together y’all.

Google and art. I love google google For abs and support and that technology and everything they’ve allowed me to see and allowed me to view and allowed me to participate in and I trust him thoroughly art I love to draw I’ve had to look it over thanks Google and thanks for showing me Hart learned a little something more today

So interesting and amazing but too slow. This app has HUGE potential and I really like it because Art makes me feel some time of way 💖 but this app takes too long to load things and runs really slow. I feel like I’m in 2006 times with things being slow like this so please work on that! Other then that perfect 🙏🏼👌🏼

only works in specific regions. I’m still kinda surprised people having seen enough comments to realize this only works if you live in specific regions (mostly America). And also, to the person that claimed that since they lived in Asia and it didn’t work because it possibly doesn’t work with Asian faces, I’m Asian American and it matched many faces with me! Even the ethnicity was spot on. Love the app

Has room for improvement. This app is amazing, but… it does need some fixer-uppers. For example, it needs a back button for not only the street view tours. Also needs more availability to certain activities, like 360 view. There needs to be more museums. A LOT of landmarks, but only 3 museums for certain pieces of art. Other than that, great app!

Neat idea but…. I was disappointed that some topics that I’ve learned about like Soviet realism didn’t come up under any searches or scans of topics. Is there copyright issues preventing more artwork featured as Illustration for books ? When I search events I wish it was in chronological order geographic order and maybe I wish I didn’t have to scroll through pages of World War II stuff to get anywhere.

Why make a selfie feature regional?. I’m sure they know that is the draw to their product for many, and though I will be keeping the app for its historical content, I feel that they need to make a product either for all or for none. Google is one of the largest tech companies in the world, so I truly don’t understand how they can’t make the selfie feature work for all. I live in southeast, so you may not have access either if you are from either Georgia, Alabama, Florida, or the Carolinas.

Incomplete. The app is nice. I like the view of places like Stonehenge. The collections seem jumbled, like when you just move in and you have everything in piles that still need to go where the really belong. It’s all there, just confusing. Also my closest, “near me,” art location is 190 miles away in this app when I know there is a good art museum less than 5 miles where I sit. It just seems like this is a beta app, but it’s not marketed as one. Nice, but a bit disappointing.

Eye opening. This app is amazing. I’ve learned so much from this app, and everything is so well-made and professional. Any information on artists is at my fingertips, and this app makes it incredibly easy. I enjoy this app so much, and I really appreciate the people behind it!

Doesn’t work on iPad Mini 2 - iOS 12.4.4.. According to the App Store, this should work on my iPad mini, but it does not. I tried two different experiences: Visiting the leaning tower of Pisa and taking a tour of a park in France. In both cases, the app would constantly hang after the first slide and would state that an error occurred and it was reloading. After a few minutes of this I quit the app and tried starting again, but same result. I also noticed that there are two icons for my account on the upper right and I suspect there should only be one. Too bad. Looks like an interesting app.

Good app. Really nice app but very buggy and slow. Can you bring it up to date and improve it's performance? Back button is inconsistent and you have to completely find the list again instead of pressing back. When you zoom in on a picture can't zoom out and read the text

Useful only in a few major cities. The app appears to have limited information on smaller or regional museums. Even when asked for local attractions, it will suggest major institutions hundreds of miles away, and not show what is available nearby. That’s a shame, as the major institutions are already in guidebook, but the smaller collections would benefit from a good search engine.

Amazing App. I’m in love with this app. Many art pieces take advantage of ultra high resolution scans so that one can zoom in and observe fine details. Another feature I love is the stories feature. The stories are detailed, well written, and inspiring. To me this app is like a museum within an app.

Came for the selfies, stayed for the content!. The articles I read were all very fun and interesting, the app was very well designed, and the selfie feature was as cool as expected! I expected to download this app to use the art searching selfie feature (AWESOME by the way) and ended up keeping it and reading articles on art.

Love the idea, but needs much more work. The content of the app is wonderful, the stories and the artwork are great and would be a fabulous resource if the app functioned better. It crashes often and has tons of issues with loading pages. It lags and is very temperamental. I wish this app worked better because if I could get to all the artworks I would be on it constantly.

Limited content access and no St. Louis art museums. I can't access the face match because Google made it limited access. There's absolutely no reason it should be limited. What's worse, they don't feature any of the St. Louis Art Museums, including THE St. Louis Art Museum which features an impressive collection and is free for everyone. Yes, they aren't MoMA or d'Orsay, but they allow access to international art from big names for free at all hours. They are definitely a key player in promoting art culture for this area and anyone who visits St. Louis and deserve recognition.

Cool app, but.... Like everyone else here, I downloaded this app for the selfie feature, but apparently I downloaded it too late and now the feature is only available in select areas of the US. Bear in mind I, by no means, live in a rural area (I live between Tampa and Orlando), but even in Orlando I can’t access the feature. Google this is not how you introduce a new social media craze, if you release a feature to everyone, and it doesn’t work optimally, you don’t take it away from over half the country, you try your best to fix it for everyone

Horrible coding. The facial recognition tech is so bad it should have just stayed beta. Couldn’t even match Mona Lisa to Mona Lisa. Pretty sure their “facial recognition” is really just randomly matching a face to 5 randomly generated portraits. Also, the app is difficult to navigate. I don’t like the endless scrolling on the home page, it should be better organized. Two stars because the info is really neat and new to the app scene. Great potential, just needs to fix a lot more bugs and go through major renovations before I seriously use this app.

I wish it worked. I was excited to try the face match feature, but like so many others I’ve read the experiences of, the app did not have that link available to me. I have difficulty believing it’s geographical, as people who live very close to me have been successful with it. I would love for this issue to be fixed, please. ❤️ I gave 2 stars because the other content seems cool. But it was a disappointment to be left out of the fun.

Face Match Not Found. I didn't know this app existed before last night when I read about the face swap functionality. I downloaded, excited to try it out, but am frustrated to find out it's not where literally all the articles say it is. It's simply not found. The description says it's only available in select locations, but I've denied the app GPS access, so how can it determine that? I live in western Washington state, and other friends in the same area can use the face match, but I can't. It makes no sense. This is yet another example of Google artificially and arbitrarily restricting a feature for some users and not for others. This is the kind of stunt Google always pulls that's compelled me to stay with competitors' products in nearly all spaces but Search. Knock it off, Google.

Disappointing. I have to agree with the reviews about how disappointing it is to download the app to use the “Find your portrait in a museum” feature - only to discover it is not available. I live in Houston - fourth largest city in the US and it isn’t available? There wasn’t even a notice to inform you the feature isn’t available in your area, or a notice of when it will be available. The find a portrait feature is very popular online and Google gets 0 points for not capitalizing on the popularity. Really Google?

FREEZES AND also oesn’t work in Texas or Illinoise. It’s bull that it doesn’t work here. Fix it. The only reason people are even getting this is because of the selfie feature. Also slow for some reason?? And needs more touch options. It is also very basic, program wise, making it harder to use. It glitches or freezes with all the other features so when i click on something I don’t even get to enjoy seeing it because it just freezes and then only shows half of the painting/artwork, total bs.

This ap is awesomeness. Honestly, the only reason the people have It one star was because this selfie future was not available in their region which is kind of petty because this is a great app and Google worked really hard on it so honestly those people go back to posting your Snapchat dog filters on Instagram.

No selfie feature for me. I think it’s very irritating that Google hasn’t pushed the selfie feature out to everyone NOR can a friend in another region try it for me with a saved photo NOR added something in the app that says it is limited. A pop up would be nice! I live in a suburb of Chicago and I guess my location isn’t included. I wasted a lot of time looking for the feature, try to figure out why I didn’t find it, and wasted even more time coming back to check for updates. Not a good experience at all.

Geographically segregated..... I live less than 20 mins from St. louis, Mo. So the river determined I can’t use the app? It’s not a great idea to have such a cool feature that only some can use. That seems a little geographically racist and makes you look like an educational elitist. I’m very upset that I am unable to take part in the latest craze of comparing my face to those of historical portraits. I mean what did Illinois ever do to you?! Our state suffers enough educationally already, we don’t need you trying to keep us from learning something!!

“There was an error loading the page”. “- tap to refresh” I love the app in general however most of the items in the widget in Control Center will not open when you tap them, and if you really want to know about the item you tapped on you have to manually search for it. I deleted and reinstalled the app and it still does this.

OBSESSED. The title says it all... I AM OBSESSED. I love seeing the selfie results that pop up, almost like that of a dna test, based upon the picture I take. I really love art and history so dorme it is more for the discovery of these pieces than to see myself in them, but perhaps it appeases my vanity as well, lol. Highly recommended app that I still have yet to fully explore! Endless discoveries await you- enjoy! Xoxo

Where’s the art tho?. Zooming in to see the brush strokes while casting to a 4k projector is pretty next level. That said, I’m here to see some art: would love more comprehensive collections of artists work, more details, and more attention on the core browsing experience. Some pieces have very little information, could you at least pull from wiki? No comments on the apps other features. Less selfies more art please!

Apparently San Antonio isn’t a big enough city. I downloaded the app and was super excited to explore museums around me. I live in San Antonio and the only museums that pop up are ones in Dallas, 5 hours away. San Antonio has AMAZING art museums and there’s nothing. It’s the 7th biggest city in the US and there’s zero representation. Nothing for Austin and Houston too. Apparently the only city that exists in all of Texas is Dallas. Also can’t use the selfie feature to find a similar portrait because of my location. So while almost everything is bigger in Texas, google certainly isn’t.

Selfie Feature NOT WORKING. I downloaded the app after seeing so many people using the selfie feature. I downloaded the app but could not for the life of me find that feature. I found out it is only available in the United States. But guess what? I AM IN THE UNITED STATES. And yet it won’t work for me. Because apparently I am in Texas seems to be EXCLUDED FROM THE FEATURE. It is ridiculous and unfair to limit access only to certain areas. Everybody should have a fair shot at trying the feature regardless of where we live.

Bloated selfie app. This app is interesting but let's face it, the only thing anybody cares about is the selfie section. Some of the hits are close if the viewer is drunk but others are just off the rails hilariously bad. Virtually none of the heads look like each other, which would seem to be a basic requirement. Google gets the sex right but everything else, including race, is pretty random. Hope the TSA is not using this technology. More importantly, why can I not scan my dogs? Come back when you add that feature.

Any way this app could come to quest 2?. I was wondering if there is any way google and oculus could work together to bring this app to vr headsets? While I could probably bring it up in the vr’s browser I think it would be great if this existed for actual vr headsets.

Location bias?. I love art and I’ve been to many art museums all over the world. I was so excited that this app had a way to compare my selfie to a painting. I downloaded only to find I could not find it. Then I did some digging and it was only available in certain areas. Please fix this issue. I’m sure the app is great in other areas but the fact that I can’t access this features is a bummer.

READ SOME ART. It’s funny to read so many negative reviews because people can’t find the portrait feature. The app has such great content and people are so upset because they can’t post what everyone else is posting on social media. Read about some art instead of archiving yet ANOTHER photo of yourself in the endless abyss of selfies. Thanks for the app, Google. It’s great.

Another frustrated Midwest user. Wasted 15 minutes trying to figure out how to access the Portrait Match feature. None of the more popular articles about the app mention this feature is only available in select locations, nor does any headline in within the app. Never had this experience with an app, ever!! Hopefully with enough negative reviews a one-star review will be pinned at the top / google will mention this in larger print to protect future customers. I can not uninstall this app fast enough. Let me guess: NY and LA have this feature. Flyover country does not. Google deserves a PR nightmare for this one.

Google arts and culture. I love the app and seeing all my favorite artists something I do have a problem with is that you can’t add photos to the what portrait do you look like thing cause I would love to see the different paintings my friends match to.

Superb. This app is one of the dest art education apps there is. The different features that you can play around with it make the information easily accessible, and it’s interactive as well. I really enjoy the app. I would recommend and encourage others to use

No face match in FL 😒. Interesting content, but after wasting time trying to find the face match option, I (as many others did) discovered it is not available in my location (Florida?!). How do our faces in the south not work with international artwork? There is nothing within the app that details this, and it is very off putting to have to waste time searching online to find this out on our own. Even as an otherwise good app that could bring culture to the masses, many will delete it out of frustration and a feeling of being “duped”. Fail, google.

Face match portrait feature is totally MIA!?. I, like many of the recent reviewers, downloaded this app wanting to do the face match famous museum awesome thingie. So I searched....and searched....and freaking searched the app for it and it was nowhere to be found!!! And I felt like I was taking crazy pills!!! Until I came here and read reviews. And found out that apparently this "feature" of the app is only available in certain locations. So I guess I just don't live somewhere cool enough for this feature according to google. Super lame guys!!! Oh well....off to delete the app...

I Love It. The opportunity to see art from home. Also knowing it’s for real pictures of art in museums. The way it allows for easy discovery of different museums and what they offer. I love it! P.S. I’ve had this installed for awhile. I just now rediscovered it.

Face match not even a searchable item. I downloaded the app to try the is your portrait in a museum but it isnt in the feed, it isnt even an item that will pop up through the search function, i dont live in Illinois or texas the states where this isn’t available. Very frustrating because either it is restricted in my area but the app doesnt tell me that so i dont know, or its deleted but the app doesnt say that its gone or ever existed so i still dont know, or it is still available which means that the site navigation is horrendous.

Non-white face=Savage Result. So every single time I uploaded a selfie to compare to a painting...I can back as a different “savage” depicted in the background of artwork. Not to say that there is a ton of artwork depicting other races out there, but would be nice to not have an app tell you that you look like a First Nations individual, an Indian individual, African individual, and a Chinese individual. All while I am Korean...

AMAZING FREE EDUCATION. I wasn’t going to write anything but then I just finished your featured thread “12 Artworks You’ll Love to Zoom In On” and oh. My. Goodness. If you know even a little about visual art appreciation then you need this app. All arts educators download this app. A world of information at your fingertips. Not only am I able to zoom in (even on my iPhone) I can see EXACTLY where the artwork is housed in. Every detail is given. For free. I have already learned so much in a matter of minutes. Thank you Google for investing your time, energy, and money into compiling this database. Thank you.

So is Chicago not a major enough city for this app work?. Eating 3 stars because unfettered museum access and art history at the ready is awesome. BUT I WANT MY PAINTED LOOKALIKE! Why is the doppelgänger app - so cool looking! So fun - not available to me??? I saw another complaint saying it’s not available outside Chicago. I’m in Chicago - home if the incomparable Art Institute and unless I’m doing something absolute wrong, it seems like geographically we don’t get this feature??? What???

Froze asking me to rate it. I just took a selfie and the app matched and when I went to post on Facebook, “please rate this app” popped up and I couldn’t rate the app - the submit button must have been hidden under the keyboard - and I couldn’t do the post. How annoying is that? So I had to close the app and now rate at the App Store. Don’t know if it’s Apple or Google.

Enlightening App. This app launched in 2016, and I have no idea how I missed it. In short, it’s truly awesome. The app has daily features on arts and cultures from around the world. With your consent, it sends out notifications about new articles, and even has a function which allows one to match a selfie with paintings in museums which is scarily accurate.

Clunky navigation, no back button. Sliding through cards on the home page does not work at all. And there's no back button anywhere. Getting back to where you previously were is entirely impossible, so if you don't save whatever you were looking at, there's s high chance you will lose all of it and have to start over again.

Why can some users get the popular feature and some not?. Like many, I downloaded this app because of the hype surrounding the “face-match-to-a-painting” feature. My friend cross country texted me her fun results, and I couldn’t access the feature. Very frustrating! Just let me do the thing! Other than that, I do enjoy the content and layout of the rest of the app. Thanks.

Art Selfie Found!. Updated: Art Selfie is available by clicking camera at bottom. Five stars. Previously: This update seems to have removed (or deeply tucked away?) the Art Selfie which I had been using for over a year. Exploring the rest of the app is delightful; however, only one star until the Art Selfie is accessible.

Sigh. Only available in parts of the U.S.? I live 20 minutes from downtown San Antonio, home to several museums and art displays, but the closest museums listed are in Dallas (5 hours away) and Houston (3 hours away). And apparently, San Antonio (one of the largest cities in the U.S.) is too remote to have the selfie option available. Wasted my time searching through this app for this neat new feature only to be disappointed. Please make it available for all users, no matter where they live. And Google, get your head out of the sand in regards to culture and where museums are located.
