“Good but not Excellent”. I’ve had the app and lock now for 4-1/2 years and it’s been pretty good. I like that you can setup access codes for different people, lock and unlock the doors with the Apple Home Kit integration, and I like the auto lock feature. What would make this app 5 stars could be a feature that could turn your auto lock feature back on when it was shut off. This could be accomplished by a prompt when it’s shut off asking “would you like to resume your auto lock setting after 1 minute………..2 hours……….or tomorrow?” The auto lock feature could also be manually programmed to resume at any time frame. The only other feature that would be needed is a low battery notification that would notify the user when the battery percentage falls below 20% and would continually notify you through notifications until the batteries were replaced. These Extra features would put this app over the top and I would easily give it five stars!!

Highly recommend for STRs and MTRs!. I have been using Schlage Encode for over a year on my short-term and mid-term rentals. The ability to create codes from an app on my phone means I no longer have to go in person to manually program codes on a different lock. Before having this lock, I would lose 30 minutes of my day programming codes each time I had to add new ones and delete old ones. Now, it takes seconds to add a new one! And I can delete several codes in no time. I highly recommend this lock.

Same inconsistency issues reported by others. As many other users report, the app shows the lock as “unreachable” sporadically with no apparent pattern, rhyme or reason. Frustrating. When the app works (ie, when it is able to connect to the lock remotely), it is pretty great. And the lock itself is awesome. But the app is very inconsistent as to when it works and when it doesn’t. (Contrary to a recent review from April 12, this is not user error.) One issue that is always present, even when it is able to reach the lock, concerns the expanded history tab- when I am away from the house and click “show more history,” it doesn’t load more history but just shows the spinning dial to indicate more history is loading (it only loads more history I’m at home, physically close to the actual lock. Again, not user error.)

Not Reliable and sadly disappointed. While at first the lock worked exceptionally well. Over time it seemed slow to respond to commands and as of today the pad stopped working in just over a year. At first I thought it was low batteries and after removing the batteries I discovered corrosion on the positive side of one the battery slots. I inspected the battery and there was no corrosion anywhere on the batteries. I then inspected the battery opening on the unit where the battery slides into. The internal connection to the battery carrier was also corroded along with the mother board directly behind the contact. With a baby toothbrush I was able to gently clean the contact with a little contact cleaner and get it to work, but it seems intermittent. The battery slot is on the interior where no moisture or weather comes in contact. Needless to say I am very disappointed on the lifespan of the unit, not to mention all the people I recommended this unit too.

Wish I knew it was not for investment properties. I have a rental property where I installed the lock. I hired a locksmith to do the installation and he had to buy a special adaptor for my door. But then after it was installed, it took 24 hours to start working. I called my internet provider to add the 2G issue as it does not work on 5G. I live out of state. It worked well for about a month. Then it notified me that it lost connection. I called Schlage customer service on a Saturday. They are not open weekends. I called them Monday. They told me to log out and unistall the app to reset it. I installed it and logged back in. That did not fix the issue. After over week, my app is unable to re-connect to my lock remotely. The old codes I put it still work, except the temporary ones. I am unable to record the history of activity, add new codes, unlock and lock it, etc. I realize only after I bought this lock, that I cannot use it remotely. I have to physically be there to reset the app if it gets disconnected. That is a gamechanger and an expensive mistake. I pray Schlage adds this essential feature to their product so that I can keep using this lock. Then it would get 5 stars. Otherwise I will have to go back to my old lock which was unfortunately more reliable than this "smart lock."

False notifications. We have several of the Encode deadbolts in our home and loved them...up until last night/early this morning when we started receiving numerous notifications of various doors being unlocked and locked again throughout the night while we were asleep. Obviously, waking up to these notifications was alarming, but then after checking all doors and seeing that they are indeed locked (while some notifications continued to come through saying otherwise) and checking the history within the app which showed all doors remained locked throughout the night, we are left with anger and frustration over an app and products that should bring us comfort and security but are now causing unnecessary panic. PLEASE FIX YOUR APP!!

Needs help. In theory this could be the best app in the App Store. Unfortunately it was left in an immature state and is very unreliable. The communication between the lock and the app is unreliable, unpredictable, inconsistent, generally loses connection to each other, and is not synchronized. The app does not talk directly to the lock when in close range so it requires the use of the internet, which causes a huge delay. Tech support is sub-par. I would have one of their locks on every door if it worked as advertised. Good luck if you go with this Schlage. It’s obvious they don’t quite get the digital thing yet, and they don’t seem to want to move forward either. Everyone who comes to my house loves the concept and wants one when they 1st see it, but then I show them how it doesn’t really work right. Then they realize they don’t want it anymore. It’s a real shame too, because it could have been great. It’s been at least a year now that I have been using it and I don’t see any progress with improvements. Sorry Schlage, your old fashion locks rock but your smart locks are a black eye on your name because the app is so bad.

Fantastic!. I use the lock for piece of mind. My mother is elderly and handicapped but still wants to stay in her home. I have set up codes for 911, my siblings, her friends, and multiple helpers she has in and out of the house weekly so they all don’t need a key. The lock allows me to set day of the week and time parameters for use and alerts me when access is used and even when the door is locked as people leave. I also like that I can lock and unlock the door remotely when needed for those that don’t normally have access, such as the boiler repair person, plumber, etc. I just bought another for my house for when we are away. Fantastic!

Improvements Needed. Notifications: The app notifies on lock/unlock only, and the setting applies to all doors. (1) App should support notification on low battery, arguably more useful than notification on lock/unlock. Battery replacement events should go into history and notifications. (2) App should support lock/unlock notification by door and by a schedule (e.g., notify me if the door on the side of the house is unlocked between the hours of 10 PM and 6 AM). General User Interface: Main page for each lock has (1) one large padlock-looking icon that is colored red for locked state, green for unlocked state, and which can be tapped to lock/unlock, (2) a button to show lock/unlock history, and (3) a battery meter (when battery is low). For owners of more than one lock, one must swipe L/R to see each lock. That main page should show a scrolling list of locks with a smaller padlock icon in the left column, the history button in the center column, and the battery meter in the right column for each lock. I.e., please implement a higher information density solution so that owners can immediately see that all locks are locked. Battery Life: I only get six months from a fresh set of batteries (on 3 different Schlage Encode locks). Not an issue with the app, per se, but I’m sharing for those considering Schlage smart locks. HomeKit: It’s unfortunate that Schlage Encode locks do not have HomeKit support. $200 locks should give users support for all major smart home platforms.

Works great. Easy to install and has worked great since I’ve owned it. I estimate I’ve owed it for 9 months or so without any problems. I’ve changed the batteries once but that is no big deal in my opinion considering how often it’s used. The app told me the batteries were low and they are easy to change. My other locks are the same brand and I was easily able to rekey this lock to my existing key set. I wish I had switched to this type of lock years ago. I have two young kids and live in the northeast so weather can change frequently. Such a convenience to unlock from the car and the kids can get inside while I take groceries etc from the car and spare some wet weather. Plus for my wife to runs and can keep the keys at home. I think people who give this poor reviews may not fully understand what they’ve purchased. Glad I went with the WiFi version instead of the Bluetooth.

Simple changes would help. (Version 4.1.9) Having the same button to toggle locked/unlocked can be problematic, as can having the majority of the screen act as the toggle button. I tried to swipe up to get to multitask mode to get into another app, and in the process ended up sending an unlock command to the door. Thankfully I was at home and heard it unlock itself, but if I had been away from home, it may have left my door unlocked without my knowledge. Also, if the app is still open and processing a command when you lock the phone, a command may be sent, then upon unlocking the phone, the app may send a repeat command, which again can be problematic if the app inadvertently sends a second unlock command hours later when you are away from home. An option to get a notification when the lock has been unlocked for more than x amount of time would be nice. On the plus side, the lock/unlock notifications are handy, as is the autolock option, though customizable time increments would be appreciated.

Schalage Sense A/ Home Kit. Works great no issues setting it up. Moved to house and changed all 3 units to Schlage sense for security and peace of mind if not needing keys. Wanted the ones with apple key but they are so far out back ordered. The app is simple and easy to use. Painless firmware updates as well. My only feedback is for the auto lock delay you need to allow for more time or a customer parameter value. When entering house 4 minutes is not enough when bringing groceries in or unloading car. Allow for up to 60 minutes or a customer choice. Thanks

Love the lock....hate the app. I love the lock so much that I just bought the same type for my mom. It’s an awesome lock and Schlage is a great company. I wish I could say the same for the app. It only syncs with the lock when I’m on my property and, unlike a previous reviewer stated, it is not down to user error. We experience many of the same issues other users are experiencing: no history, not locating the lock, unreachable, etc. I sold my family on letting me install this lock at my mom’s new home in her senior community so we could monitor who comes and goes. The particular selling point was we could monitor everything remotely through the app. I’m hoping the new lock syncs up with the app I loaded on her phone better than it does on mine, but I’m not going to get my hopes up.

Works well Time for a major update. We’ve use this app for rental property for the past 2 years. It’s slow, it doesn’t always connect to the lock, but it works for the most part. I believe it’s time for a major update. 1)allow multiple codes to be entered at the same time then press SAVE. Notify me when each new entry has updated from the app. If I have 12 new additions and deletions per day, it’s a good 20 minutes to wait to get them all set b/c it can only record one entry at a time. That’s averaging 3-4 won’t be recognized on the first go and at least 1 of those takes over 20 minutes or doesn’t ever register w/the lock. 2) send me an status report and/or keep track of the last several codes entered (on a separate page w/out having to click on each lock separately) which shows whether or not the lock has accepted the change. This 2 changes would be a game changer for the rental business!

App not as reliable as it should be.. We have the Bluetooth (not WiFi) model at my home and my wife’s business. The locks themselves are fairly reliable are battery efficient. We’ve had them 4 years now and haven’t been let down by the operation at the door. However, the operation with the app, which is the whole purpose of getting a “smart” lock leaves a lot to be desired. The lock advertised compatibility with apple’s HomeKit system which was a major benefit. I have an Apple TV and a couple of new iPads that stay at home, so theoretically I should be able to control my locks even while I’m away from home. I should be able to see if my doors are locked while away from home, or AT LEAST from across the house right? Wrong. Connectivity regularly fails. No matter if you’re using the HomeKit UI or Schlage a own app, there is apparently a difficulty connecting to the lock. Recently, Schlage or Apple released an update and since that update you have to be right next to the lock for it to work. We have this years iPhones so our equipment isn’t out of date. The Apple TV is connected over gigabit Ethernet so “WiFi signal” isn’t the issue. It’s software. It’s something that defeats the purpose of owning a “smart” lock.

Love it!. The app and lock have performed exactly as expected. We like that our kids do not have to carry keys and I get alerted when they get home from school. My only suggestion is to allow for a longer auto lock duration. 4 minutes is not long enough. The deadbolt has damaged the wood around our door when the auto lock has triggered and then the door is shut. I love the idea of being able to set a schedule for auto lock as someone else suggested. At a minimum, please allow us to set a 15 minute duration. Thank you!

It works so well!. I own an airbnb and and decided I needed a smart lock. I started with Kwikset as it saved us some money over the Schlage. It worked when it worked. I called tech support a bunch of times as it was alway dropping the wifi connection. They always said it was our wifi. I replaced the whole wifi router and added extenders in an 1100 sq foot house. It still failed and Kwikset never took responsibility. So I bought the Schlage. I have had it about a year and a half now. It just works!! Always!! I have another product that sends messages customers and also sends new lock codes to the Schlage lock that is unique for each customer. A couple of times I thought that software or the Schlage had failed. It turned out it was all me. The codes sent let guest check in on a certain day at a certain time. If I tell the guest they can check in early I have to remember to adjust the check in time. So the failure was me! I would say it’s the most reliable “smart” equipment I have ever owned and has relieved a lot of stress. In the end much less expense than the Kwikset.

Worth the price. When I purchased this lock 3 years ago I had no idea how much I would come to love it, both for its function and convenience. The ability to program codes for different users and allow or restrict access has been invaluable. For the most part it also works well with my iphone (Siri and the home app). The only disadvantage has been the inability to reach the lock when away from home and the slightly touchy keypad which sometime requires several try’s for new users. All in all, well worth the money and I’ve recommended in numerous times to friends and family.

Could be a much better experience.. The install of the lock was the best part of the experience. The instructions were good. Getting the lock configured on my network and firmware updates were difficult due to the lock not being found or recognized. About a day later after getting everything working, it worked pretty good for about a month. It then magically lost connection, which I would say was after a software update. I was able to get it back on my wifi, but it is t communicating with their cloud anymore. This prevents me from seeing any history or status. A day later the history finally came in, bit the lock still is having connection issues. Looks like I may have to factory reset and start all over again. Ironically, I can still get in from the keypad. The remote capabilities are weak. I wish they would bypass their cloud and keep everything inside the private network. If their cloud is down or you have authentication issues, the remote features don’t work.

Working fine until recently. There is a sudden lapse in notifications, lock shows locked when unlocked, locked when locked .. I don’t see a notification for hours. This has made me very uncomfortable with this lock all of a sudden. It is in an office in a locked building - with the way the app is functioning, I would not rely on it for my front door. Also the remote lock/unlock by a single tap would be great if it worked flawlessly. Instead, we are now driving to our office in the middle of the night since the app is sometimes saying it is locked and sometimes not and not responding to touching the lock icon but then may respond an hour later. Someone needs to get on it to get this resolved

Good Product. I had a few issues with the installation of the Schlage sense hub. Once that was worked out the app does what is advertised. One big item I wish they would add is a notification if the lock is left unlocked for a period of time. I have the Chamberlain MyQ app for just that reason. It has a customizable time period before it notifies you that the garage door has remained open. Great for when kids are asking questions when pulling out of the garage and you forget to close garage door. Since the Schlage locks already have the ability to auto lock after a period of time, would it be that hard to add a notification if the the lock is left unlocked for say 20 minutes?

App crashes. I have two Schlage door locks. When I go to setting for front door, app crashes. If I go to setting in second door, I can adjust setting. I’m trying to disable first door alarm which must have high sensitivity setting, however I can’t because app crashes. I call Schlage and they stated it’s the first time they heard of this and brought to higher level engineers to figure out. It’s been over a week now and door alarm is getting annoying. I have my first lock which has the problem for about 3-4 years now and second door lock for about 1 1/2 years. Never had a problem before and both locks still works well with Apple homekit.

The app is the worst. As a short term rental owner, I switched over to this particular lock because I needed more control of technology to be able to change passcodes in between guests and control the times they could access, and see who is going into the unit and when. I also love that it is integrated with Hospitable. Unfortunately, I have had nothing but issues since I installed the lock, and it’s not the lock, it’s the app. This app is a disaster. If you are getting this, because you need to be able to control it remotely, pick another lock. It constantly crashes and gives me error codes, I really am unable to unlock the door remotely. As I type this, I am trying to change a guest’s access to get in at 2 o’clock instead of 4 o’clock and it is giving me error after error and won’t save it. I don’t know how I’m going to get the guest into the unit since I also can’t rely on the app to unlock the door remotely. I am beside myself right now.

3-1/2 lacks some common sense features. When the new interface came out, I was really disappointed to see that they left the measly number of character spaces allowed in the name field. you cannot even put first and last name of someone with a relatively short first and last name! As a host of Airbnb visitors where I live, it would be helpful. This should be a very simple fix. Also related to data, I really would benefit from a persistent history, in fact, I need a history and this interface does not allow it. It deletes all entry and exit history for a contact when I delete that contact. The data should persist even though I’m deleting the contact from being able to access the home. Developers: Please consider for upcoming update. These are sticking points for me and what I recommend to my fellow hosts who I assist in setting up their homes for Airbnb.

Nice concept, less than stellar execution. I really like the idea of this but the app is slow and clunky. I will click unlock and the app will take MINUTES, upwards of five minutes to finally unlock the door. sometimes it is worse yet and just can’t communicate with the lock. It is not my internet connection because when it happens I’ll try my other home apps and everything functions perfectly, only the Schlage app is fumbling. I also wish that it had a simple disable toggle for individual people, I have people that I don’t want to have full time access to my location and I don’t always know when they’ll show up so I can’t schedule it so I have to delete their combo and re set it up every time. The schedule idea is cool and all but just a on off toggle would be a nice option.

Randomly Unlocks Sometimes. We have had this lock for about 10 months and for the most part, we love it. We love the convenience of it and freedom it gives us to leave our house cleaner alone knowing that she will lock the door without giving her a key. But…..the biggest issue we have with it is that sometimes it unlocks by itself and for no reason. In the last 2/3 months it unlocked in the middle of the night. Once at midnight and the second time was at 4:00 am. This worries a lot and there is a major glitch in the system that needs to be fixed to give me and my family the peace of mind. There is no excuse for this lock to unlock itself. I am considering taking it off if I knew what to replace it with.

Great, but could be so much better. We’ve had this lock on our house for 2+ years. Honestly it works great. The disappointment is in the app and it’s lack of scheduling features. I keep hoping for an update but nothing to date. Why wouldn’t you allow users to set a schedule for the auto lock feature? When we are home and going in and out, having it locking is annoying and turning the auto lock feature on and off isn’t very convenient. Being able to schedule the auto lock feature would make this product hard to beat. I’m getting to the point of looking for a product that would allow me to do more programming and scheduling.

Easy to install and connect. I’ve never installed a lock before and found the diagram instructions easy to follow. I was challenged finding the default codes - even though it was in the back of my instruction pamphlet- but found where to look when I went online. A few notes on connecting it to Wi-Fi. If you have a modem that toggles between 5G and 2.4G you have to wait until it’s in 2.4G mode before it recognizes the app. I’m using the Schlage app. My modem doesn’t tell me so I kept trying. Your internet provider might be able to help too but ask for a live person to help. Their traditional menus don’t cover this. Once connected I was able to add other codes easily. I recommend this product.

Works remotely with Apple TV HD. The app works and does what you need to configure it After months of frustration, I have finally figured out what was causing my remote access issues no thanks to Schlage or Apple. For those of you with lingering issues using it remotely with an Apple TV HD, ensure the following 1) on your Apple TV, make sure that airplay is “On”. You ALSO MUST enable “also allow nearby to airplay“. 2) after that, you will need to turn off all nearby iOS devices and lock. After rebooting your Apple TV, turn on the lock again and ensure that it connects with your Apple TV. You can verify if it is connected by asking your Siri my remote if the lock is locked or unlocked. Once connected, it will maintain a connection with your Apple TV 3) now, you should be able to turn on your iOS devices and no longer have issues. Note: If you Continue to have issues, you may either need to reset your lock back to factory defaults or you may have Bluetooth interference. You may try to move your Apple TV closer to the lock or moving other devices that could cause interference further away from your Apple TV. Hope this helps anyone!

Coolest item in my house. I bought the Schlage Encode Smart Wi-Fi Deadbolt with Century Trim in Satin Nickel, and the Matching handle over a year ago. I just never had time and thought they would be a mission to install but it was easy and we are really ecstatic about this smart lock. When I was looking a year ago, I chose Schlage because although the products were more expensive, I knew that when it comes to digital or motorized locks, you can’t spare any change. I should have waited to buy and save $60 since they are on sale, but the combo is amazing. The paper instructions don’t make sense but there are resources online that will get you up and running.

Security!!!. My garage door is always locked now . Have you ever accidentally left your garage door open during the night , anyone could have walked in. The remote app is phenomenal I can keep the door locked and kids can use the app or the push pad. You can program certain codes for family or friends to come inside your house when you are on vacation, or you can remotely unlock the door. Have literally wanted one for years , my husband thought it was crazy or would be a nuisance coming and going its awesome, now he wants one for the front door. Exceeded my expectation in every way.

Love this lock!. Hands down one of the best upgrades I have done to our Home. This thing works from literally across the country! Real time and 100% reliable! Had relatives show up unannounced from out of town when WE ourselves were out of town and we were able to let them in to the house. Set them up with a passcode and it sent them a text on how to use it… Crazy!!! No need to “hide” a key under the mat! It tells you the battery life so you will not be surprised with a dead battery and the app is easy to use and navigate! Highly recommended!

Works well and is reliable. I question the veracity of those critical reviews which have preceded this. Perhaps a recent update has fixed all the complaints. My experience has been excellent. The app was easy to install and set-up and it’s performance in directly locking/unlocking my new Encode wifi deadbolt has been flawless in the weeks since I installed it. I am a hyper-critical person and do not often write reviews but my experience has been so different from some others, that I feel obligated to do so. I really cannot understand their complaints. Perhaps my enthusiasm is fed by the problems and un-reliability I experienced with a former Z-Wave system.

Please add a schedule for lock. It would be great to add a schedule like Lock the door at the time that you select. Like for example lock door at 1:00am That way the household doesn’t fall asleep and leave the front or back door unlocked. Right now the most time you can set is 10 mins for Auto relock. But if the person is in the backyard more then 10 mins it will lock with the door wide open. That’s why I don’t turn that on because people will slam the door with the lock bolt out after 10 mins as past. A time schedule would be great and a notification letting you know the door is left unlocked after a certain time would be fantastic as well. That would set the product apart from other competitors. Safety first

Enjoying the lock. Some things I’d like to see... The lock and app have been one of my favorite things after a major remodel of my house. I’d like to see the lock have a compass or other method so it only locks on the timer if the door is closed. I’d like for the open and closed messages to be unified when they are within one minute (or the automatic timer time). I’d like the app to come up with the history,and got the lock and unlock functions to be two separate buttons. I’d like for alerts to exclude specified access codes (I’d set my own to no alert because I know when I go in and out). I’d like an inside button to lock or unlock door. I’d like the batteries to be rechargeable with a plug on the pack or a micro usb charge cable. I’d like an alert when batteries are low.

Fantastically reliable device!. I have had a Schlage electronic dead bolt on my front door for over 2 years now. It has operated flawlessly and remotely from my i-phone application without failing once. This is essential for me cause I am totally bed-bound at the moment recovering from a serious auto accident. Also since it is battery controlled, when there is a brown out or black out the operation of my door is unaffected. Finally, when being transported from the house for a doctor’s visit or for PT Therapy,, the application immediately reconnects to my Wi Fi when returning home outside of the home without fail. The batteries last for months without needing changing. I recommend it highly for anyone needing help in unlocking and answering the door.

Could use some updated features. The lock itself works well, however the app is not so great. Many times I do not get notifications for when the door is opened. Even today the last update was from last night, and there has been a lot of activity but it won’t show us even when we refresh. Also the feature to autolock should also allow the ability to choose a range of time for the door to be unlocked, for example from 9am - 9pm the door can stay unlocked, and if anyone comes in at night then it will auto lock after 4 minutes, etc. I really wanted to like this lock and app but it just falls short.

Good software, but could be better. The Schlage app is good software but could be a little better. I have two suggestions. On the main screen under the lock icon is a circular arrow icon, that I assumed would check the current status. It seems to only check the last record in the history. If the last history record was a lock that occurred 3 hours ago, after pressing this icon, the message will say “Status as of 3 hours ago”. That doesn’t instill confidence that the lock is locked now and that it checked current status. My second suggestion is that failed attempts to unlock the lock with the keypad should be recorded in the history.

Easy to use, expensive, no hub needed. Works as expected. Easy installation if the locks fit your door (it did mine). No hub needed is unique and reliable. It’s expensive currently at $300 - easy to use, anybody understands how to open and close it. Basic app now includes scheduling. My suggestions for the app developers are: 1- display battery % upfront (top screen) 2- display all locks in one screen if more than one lock is installed in one building - I have 3, and I swipe from screen to screen to monitor them 3- make it compatible with Airbnb so codes are setup automatically. Also finally it would be great to have a compatible door sensor, so one can make sure that the bolt is extended when the door is actually closed. currently, a door can show as “locked “ but the door can be wide open, open door with the bolt extended. With a compatible sensor, the sensor will show in the app … that will be great! Fingers crossed you implement these features soon :)

Love Schlage keypad locks. I have the Schlage Encode on one of my rental properties and the Schlage Sense with separate WiFi Adapter at another rental property. I love being able to remote control codes and lock operations. My Schlage Encode is newer with WiFi built in and has been perfect. The Sense lock has been giving me issues since a software update about six months ago. I’ve had to restore it to factory settings and re-pair it to WiFi adapter & cell phone a few times. Working again but it has been having issues reflecting the correct date/time in the history log (even though the “lock time” in the Information tab is always accurate. It seems to get synchronized occasionally and the losses date/time again in history. Minor annoyance but important information for my short term rental.

GREAT purchase.. Like so many things now, you can control your own lock to your door(s) from an App! We’ve had this for about a year and I’m very impressed. Batteries in the lock work for about 6 months with heavy use. We lock and unlock the front door an equal amount of times via the key pad and app. Love that I get an instant notification when it’s locked or unlocked. I also set codes for family so I know exactly who unlocked it and when. Couple this with a video door bell, you have excellent security and know who’s at or coming in the entry ways to your house. I’ve had ZERO issues with this setup. Love it!

Great reliable smart lock/app! Only User error. Firstly, the app keeps getting better, it was minimal at first but now has schedules and a little more and thankfully tells you who/how the lock was activated (by the Schlage app only). I can’t believe more people haven’t used the app or bought the lock. Been over 2yrs and I haven’t even changed the AA batteries - still 36% battery. I use AppleTV and HomeKit, I tell my phone all the time to lock or check if it locked/unlocked. Works great with the iWatch and always responsive almost always within 5seconds the lock is activated. I have had a few issues here and there, no more than any other electronic device that’s works nearly flawless. I bought two more Sense locks for the other doors a year later. Quality built construction lock, just keep working on the app and I will continue to tell others this is a must buy tool for a smart home and a seamless way to monitor the locks throughout. The reviews are just outright user error, lack of patience, outdated phone/device, one even said it only works within 30’ because of BlueTooth - its WiFi.

Doesn’t work. UPDATE - I am revising my text below to reflect a very unclear setup or pairing process. I assume, by process of elimination, that my problem was the WiFi I was connected to. Most smart applications like this will eventually prompt you for a WiFi, and as with most smart devices, this requires 2.4Ghz ONLY. This application however can’t even establish Bluetooth connectivity unless I am preemptively connected to the WiFi with 2.4Ghz only. This is confusing because a typical setup won’t care about the WiFi until I am actually configuring it. To add to the confusion (as I found the one statement buried in the FAQs indicating a preemptive connection) I actually needed to completely close the app and restart it while also on the new WiFi before it would work. Aside from this confusion, the app appears to work well during the first 24 hours. Original text: Really terrible experience, I’ve been completely unable to connect the app to the actual device. It’s basically just a very expensive deadbolt.

Pretty easy setup. Could use a few enhancements. I like the look of the lock and it was easy to set up. I strive to be handy, but I’m not. I was still able to install in about 20 minutes. I like the ease of it, but I would like to be able to create more useful notifications. Right now it’s just notify every time the door is locked or unlocked which is too many things. I would like to be able to set it to notify me if the door has been left unlocked for more than X minutes. Or just get those lock/unlock notifications around a certain time ranges. It seems like a useful feature to add. Otherwise there is rarely ever a need to actually open the app.

Would like to be able to schedule the time it locks or unlocks. We like the lock and being able to check the status and unlock/lock from the app. We have dogs, so this nice to give the neighbor kid access when we are gone to care for the dogs. My biggest suggestion and peeve with the lock: We wish there was a way to schedule the door with time of day to lock or unlock. It’s really annoying to have the only option to lock it after only a few seconds or minutes, especially since it is a door we use regularly throughout the day. It would be nice to set it to lock at specific times instead. We don’t use the auto lock delay because it is so annoying to have to unlock the door every time we go in or out. I will improve our rating if you add this feature!

Remote lock. I’ve bought Schlage for years due to quality. I haven’t been disappointed until the remote access lock. I bought it so my handicapped sister could lock and unlock the door to allow friends and aid workers to visit. In conjunction with the ring door bell that provided views this gave her security and control. However the program didn’t allow us to also give codes to aids. It was codes or remote access not both. Then if the door wasn’t shut perfectly it wouldn’t lock. We simply asked people leaving to hold the door. The biggest issue was operation. The program had to be reset at least monthly when it wouldn’t work at all. Summary. It could be a pain and I wouldn’t recommend it for an able bodied person but it was still a great tool for the handicapped.

Love the lock/app combo; low battery status needed. Never thought I would fall in love with a deadbolt, but this little guy has helped give me more piece of mind. I can see when my kids (16 & 21) are coming and going without being the overbearing or prying mom. It’s nice to know when I’m out that they have gotten home safely without them having to remember to text me. Basically, none of us have to think of these things, the lock does the heavy lifting for us. On a recent trip out of the country I could see that they were leaving the house on time to get to school and when they returned home again. Even though they were an ocean away it made me feel close to them. One complaint about the app is that it would be really nice to receive a low battery notification. I don’t use the front door very often (my comings and goings are via the garage), just the boys, so I am dependent on them to tell me when the battery needs to be replaced.

Firmware update fail. The hardware is fine, and the app functionality is okay, but the firmware just will not update. My lock is on 4.27 and the app wants to update to 4.31 but it fails every time. At 15 minutes per attempt it is a huge time waster. There is no status updates during the update, just a slow moving progress bar. The instructions are not very clear either: keep app open and phone near lock…okay, so the last attempt I sat 1 foot from the lock, with the Schlage app open, rubbing my screen constantly so the phone won’t sleep the screen but still get a fail. Firmware should update even if the phone locks. The app is still running. If there is a fail, the app should provide some feedback (did the update start on the lock, fail to complete, amd rollback, or did the app lose connection with the device, or, or….?

So well thought out and well built!. I bought a cheap combination lock for an “owner’s closet”. After spending nearly 4 frustrating hours trying to get it set up, I decided to install the Schlage; what a stark contrast. The Schlage product was obviously ver well built and the attention to detail was even more pronounced in the installation directions. Not only were there complete and concise written directions but there were also a step-by-step smartphone instructions complete with videos! The only hiccup I had was that it took me a few tries to connect to the WiFi but that’s not there fault. I quickly and easily added multiple users with varying degrees of access. Although I haven’t yet tried the voice activation, we love it!!

App still crashing despite stated update. I thought I was through the woods on my finally getting schlage sense to work with the wifi adapter after giving up on 18 months of ATV homekit not working at all since my previous home under an earlier IOS which was flawless. I finally got things working three days only to today go to test the app and remote connection and see it crashes immediately. I updated the app for the crash fix which achieved nothing. Unreal..

Great lock and good app. Can’t rate the lock high enough. Have had it installed on the front door for 2 years and only had to replace the batteries once. Love it.

Pretty good. App is good for setting up and configuring everything, after that I used the apple home app to combine it with my elgato and Phillips stuff. Works well with the automatic lights from phillips and temperature sensors.

Wifi adaptor is terribly unreliable and slow. Awful awful experience. Adaptor is slow and unreliable. Needs to be deleted and re-paired every few months. 24 hour Schlage server outage a couple of days ago and nothing worked. No status page & no response to my help desk messages. Remote open/close can take 30-45 seconds, and often doesn’t work or doesn’t update if it does. I have terrific WiFi/internet connection (ring doorbell right there works perfectly & adaptor is about 4 feet away). Avoid at all costs.

Schlage Deadbolt. Happy with lock works great with code and iPhone X but will not connect with Apple Home on IPad so can’t use Siri a bit disappointed. Hope this will be fixed soon.

Works exactly as expected!. Would be awesome if the auto-lock feature was smarter and could tell if the door had been closed or the ability to set the auto-lock timer to longer than 4 minutes. At the moment I have an Eve door sensor locking the door when closed but would be nice to have a fallback if the Eve runs out of battery.

Monthly wifi connection issues. The lock works great, but the lock constantly looses and can’t find my wifi. I have it set to my 2.4 guest wifi and go through a monthly routine of trying to reconnect the wifi to the lock.

Creating an account. This has to be the worst app ever when attempting to create an account so the lock functions can be activated. Then the contact details to try and sort the issue out is another hurdle a horse cannot jump over. Might be a good lock but software and contact sure leaves a lot to be desired

Very Slow, Unreliable Status. Not Confidence Inspiring. The Home App oscillates between Locke’s, unlocked, unknown, updating. Often need to stand at the front door for several minutes before I unlocks. When it eventually works, unlocking and locking would wake the dead. All round terrible product.

App crashes 6.5.0. Since the 6.5.0 update the app crashes when going into Access and selecting the first user. This occurs everytime I complete the same action

Login after app update. Why do some app developers not design their apps to keep login credentials across app updates? Having to re-enter credentials after each update is sloppy design and programming.

Disappointed. Updated the app to the latest version and it is no longer starting, crashes as soon as it shows the Schlage screen. iOS 12.5.5, the phone was hard reset, but still not working.

Broken schedule. 4.1.2 has broken the schedule access again. I have someone who only comes in 1 day a week and is only enabled for that day and the red X appears. If I give them 24/7 access it works. Please fix ASAP!

Wifi. Lock is solid but can. It won’t connect it to the wifi.

Frustrating. Slow, unresponsive and never sure if it's accurately showing the lock status. I have stopped using it and instead operate the lock through the Elgato Eve app.

Quite flakey. As much as I want to love this app and the door locks it supports. It’s really flakey and doesn’t work all the time. This really isn’t what you want for your home security and piece of mind. Schlage, you’ve got a great product, but your app and network connectivity just doesn’t cut it I’m afraid.

Great idea flawed development. Intermittent working with HomeKit is frustrating (especially since iOS 12) and undermines confidence in the lock. Locks are kinda too important for me to be worried. Schlage need to update firmware more consistently or the app is useless.

Easy to use & stylish. I love our new lock. It looks attractive and is simple to use . Up to 100 individual access codes are available. Some of the different models are only available overseas, not in Australia. The one I really wanted was not available here .

Worst brand/product.. I have had my lock for nearly 3 years now. Never has it been able to update its firmware, every time I call their help centre I’m left to sassy, rude, & patronising employees. Who assure me every time it’s my phone, my internet etc etc never talking the blame for an issue. Today was the last straw, I call asking for help cause the system crashed... I was told they cannot help till Monday which is three days away. Meaning my front door is useless until it’s “fixed”. Even thou they will probably assure me that’s its my end with the issues. *update* Lock still isn’t working, the app won’t even show the lock anymore... HomeKit can’t find it constantly stuck in “updating”

Terrible. This app is terrible, doesn’t work even in landscape mode. More significantly, the lock itself doesn’t sync with HomeKit or the Schlage login system. I’m stuck using the default codes because I cant get into the app to change anything.

App is the craps. I experience all sorts of connecting issues. Doesn’t connect. Then works. But virtual key doesn’t work. Then if I’m lucky to get that going. Won’t respond to Alexa. Then wife’s second virtual key doesn’t work Then sharing codes won’t work. The craps. This is made for a single person. Not multi family.

Prefect for short-term rentals. We have been using the Scheldge wifi/Bluetooth locks for over 3 years for our short-term rental business and it is the perfect option to customize the locks to each unique guest. We can manage it all from a distance. No worries about lock-boxes or lost keys or physically meeting guests to hand out keys.

Absolutely amazing. I just installed this door lock. I am a carpenter and install doors almost daily. This lock was simple, straightforward and it’s secure as hell. I’ve dealt with way too many dumb “smart” locks in my time and they are not “smart” their “dumb”. Thanks for making an amazing door lock.

Not-that-smart lock. It’s one of the expensive locks in the mark. Yet it doesn’t have logic to Auto Unlock based on my phone location, an optional convenience that Wyze and many other locks have. And if the door is left open, it still goes ahead and locks the deadbolt. Wyze in comparison, warns that the door is left open.

frequent “cannot save code” error. zero stars. I will never buy another schlage lock again. You’re better off with the google products. The main problem with this app is how difficult it is to add and remove codes. 9 times out of 10, the app will refuse to add or modify a code. Despite the frequent app updates, this issue has not been resolved and support is of no help.

Absolute garbage. One of the worst apps I’ve ever used. Want to add an access code? Too bad. Want to look at history when you’re not home? Forget it. Want a sane and sensible UX? Hahahahah you fool. Stay away.

Battery %. Please make available a notification when battery level goes below 20%

Constantly logs you out won't save password.. The developers need to fix this issue immediately. Don't understand why the app constantly lodges you out. It won't save your username and password in your Apple keychain. Highly frustrating and unacceptable. Whatever you need the app the most you're logged out and I have to re-login to use the app.?????

Limited use cases. There are a few things that would make this great: 1. The ability to delete multiple codes at once. Currently you have to swipe each and there is a delay while it sends and processes. Doing 10 in a row takes a few minutes when it could take seconds. 2. Grouping locks - let’s say you have three locks at your home. You’d like to provide guests a single code to open them all - right now you need to manually setup each door with a code. If you grouped them you could setup one code that does your entire property. 3. An open API for automation 4. Wrong code alert - an alert sent when someone repeatedly enters the wrong code. 5. Light - right now you have to guess where the first digit is on the keypad. There should be either a sensor that illuminates the pad with motion or even the lock omitting the first button pushes to allow the pad to light up so you can see, then enter the code There are other small bugs like getting locked out frequently. The UI could also use a refresh.

Apple watch. Please make this available on apple watch just in case I need to call 911, I can open the door remotely IF in case I forgot to bring my phone with me. And/OR I can open the door when I’m outside I don’t need to bring out my phone from my purse Btw I use schlage wireless adapter and I can’t use my homekit

Excellent Product and Technology. Super great this Schlage Encode Door lock. I installed it by myself( just watched the YouTube Video)and I take my time to figure it out the step by step guide. Download the QR code(in the brochure)for your personal code. Done - Like - Dinner. My Family loves it, and we know who opens the door. No more loosing the keys and the main thing is, if you forgot to close it, so EASY, just go to your Schlage Lock App, you can close it wherever you are. I recommend it to all my friends, they are totally impressed about my New Schlage Encode Door Lock. It’s a Five Star for me. Thank you for reading my review.

lock does not work. My one lock works but just got another one for a different door and I can’t get it to hook up to the app at all after installing it to my door. I tried contacting the company for help but phone just was quite and the website trying to text some it’s the exact same. After spending this kind of money for a lock you would think the service would be top notch and the product would work great. Instead of scanning a QR code it would be nice to have a second way to hook up these locks

Keeps prompting for password. The app keeps asking for a password How is this convenient when I’m at the door with a weeks worth of shopping?? Useless!

Please add sorting feature to the lock list. Please add the automatic alphabetical order sorting feature to the lock list. This is particularly helpful if the user is using multiple locks. I also witnessed that the lock list gets shuffled periodically and that requires sorting It manually again.

Not consistent. I have the option toggled on to be notified when the door is locked and unlocked. It worked for a bit at first and now it does not notify me. I’ve checked to make sure the settings did not change and they have not. Not sure how to fix the problem

Your lock was unable to communicate with the Schlage cloud. I kept on getting “your lock was unable to communicate with the Schlage cloud” error. It turns out it was already connected!

Very satisfied. Happy with this lock which makes life easier and more comfortable specially that you’re able to control it remotely.

Intermittent. When it works, it’s great but has always required several tries and pauses in the process.

Works well + feature request. This was an upgrade from another vendors app/lock and it is much more solid. I have it integrated with HomeKit and it works great with my Apple Watch this way. I use the auto-lock feature but as a feature I would love to be able to pause this for 12? Hours. Any time I know I’m in and out of the house for a bunch of times, eventually I run into the lock auto locking as I’m half way through the door.

Best security ever. I love this lock. I can lock and unlock my door while im away if i forget something. I can track activity. Its awesome really.

Recent issue with saving new users. Use our Encode for AirBNB. Worked great forn2 yrs. For the last couple months continually get saving errors when adding or changing codes. Sometimes afterwards the code is added a couple hours later and sometimes not. Major delay issue and firmware says it is up to date. Using IPhone 13. Appears to have become an issue after moving to IOs 17 but can’t prove. Please fix this issue!

Wifi does not connect. Says Wifi password is incorrect every time when it’s not. Won’t connect at all. For a $300 lock, it’s junk and doesn’t work. We have 2 and both do the same thing.

Very bad. I have 15 locks on my 12 Airbnbs and it’s painful how much Schlage app do not work properly 90% of the time. I’ve been in contact with Schlage Canada manager and yet even after 1 1/2 years the system always fail to connect the locks.

Frequent error codes. When adding access codes, I often get an error that the code couldn’t be saved. Sometimes if you can cel and refresh your list of codes, it will be there even though you got an error. Other times it just won’t save at all.

Should work the first time around. Not working. Too tired to keep trying to get it to connect to google or HomeKit or stay connected to my wifi

Slage wireless lock review. Can be a bit finicky to set up on wireless and usually have to call support to go through the steps. eg. Need to set up on 2G vs 5G to start with, and resetting the lock in very defined steps by pressing the reset can be a bit confusing and not intuitive. Otherwise, it has a great battery life (about 6-9 months depending on use frequency) and has been a reliable unit. In place now for over a year.

Status shows unlocked yet history shows locked. An ongoing, intermittent troublesome issue that deeply concerns us is when the status shows an unlocked symbol yet the lock history shows locked by touchscreen with the time. This discrepancy certainly is worrisome because you then are not sure the door is really locked. When you press the center of the green unlock symbol, the symbol then shows a red locked symbol yet the lock history does not reflect that. It still shows locked by touchscreen with the original locked time. Why does this happen & is there any way to prevent this? Is the door actually locked the first time which is why the lock history does not change? This issue is our biggest problem with this lock. Overall, we love this lock.

Decent app with a few annoying features. The app does its job but it’s not very user-friendly. In fact, some features are truly annoying. For instance, there seems to be no way to retrieve your key information while away from the lock - hence it’s impossible to share it with someone else remotely unless you have written it down somewhere or you remember it. I also noticed inconsistencies with access. For instance, it took me numerous attempts to access my lock from my iPhone 15 while it worked (almost) immediately from my old iPhone 8 - no idea why but it’s still annoying.

Tech is great. I’ve only had this for a week. But let me tell you how this is soooo convenient. I no longer have to get up from my work office to unlock the door for whoever. A physical key is given, but not needed. Everyone has their own passcode if they choose to and I can manage everything from my phone. Forgot to lock the door? No worries. You can set up and auto lock for whatever time frame that is available. I’m enjoying this investment so far. I hope the mechanism stays working.

False (Maybe) unlock notification. Starting last night I got a notification on my phone that the lock unlocked and then locked. I checked my door, it was locked. I checked the ring which didn’t show any activity. I checked the lock history in app nothing but I have found that it doesn’t record everything. Tonight it happened again, notifications unlocked and locked. After this I replaced the batteries and after twenty minutes again notification of unlocked and locked. I have removed the batteries and am waiting to see what happens. Perhaps there is a bug in a recent app update? Might be time to find something new that has reliable history.

Good App but Room for improvement. Works well but the date function is clumsy. When I set up future rents (VRBO) for temp access it’s a pain scrolling through all the dates a year away (Start access) and then having to scroll another year for (End Access). Needs to be more like Apple’s reminders date setup. Also could use a few more characters for name. Also needs to have a secondary access for family members without full authority.

Easy, Simple and Convenient. Can not believe how easy it was to install my new Schlage Encode smart lock. And I wish I had done sooner on our out of town condo. We had issues after purchasing our condo that required service people needing access to the unit. This was a problem because we were 1,200 miles away. We could not find people to help. This lock and the remote locking capabilities eliminates all those problems.

Fix security issue between HomeKit and Schlage. A month ago, when I installed the lock and connected to Apple HomeKit and Schlage app, I noticed a disturbing issue on what showed-up on non-owner users Schlage app if sequence of configuration is Apple HomeKit first and then Schlage app. I was able to address issue only after I reset, restarted installation and changed sequence to Schlage app first before Apple HomeKit. If this has not been fixed yet in recent changes, please fix this regardless of sequence of installation. It is a privilege issue as non-owner users should have visibility only to their accounts.

Worked fine for about a month. I have no idea if it’s the lock that’s defective, or the app. I bought it about a month ago and loved it. Then yesterday I started getting notifications that the door was unlocked then locked. This is my front door we’re taking about, so of course I’m freaked out about the lock randomly unlocking at night. Then today I noticed that not everything was reported in the lock history. I changed the batteries then nothing at all was showing up. I deleted it from the app and now it won’t connect to WiFi at all so I now have a $250 deadbolt does the same thing as a $30 deadbolt.

Best thing that ever happened to door locks!. I absolutely love this automatic door lock !! It is so handy to be able to unlock and lock my door with my phone whenever I need to. I really enjoy being able to unlock my door in the evening when I come home and it’s dark. I can unlock it and then go directly to the house knowing it’s open, and I don’t have to fumble around trying to get in. Thanks so much for this great lock! I would recommend it to everyone!!

Almost Perfect!. I bought the Schlage Encode and tried it out against 3 other smart locks and it blew them all out of the water. I love the app and how easy and intuitive it is. My ONLY wish is the the ability to turn Guest codes off, like a toggle button, or a master toggle off button. The app does have a schedule, but I would love a manual toggle switch to disable/enable accounts. The only way to do that now is to delete the account and add it again or use a schedule, which can sometimes be hard to predict. My only wish to an awesome app!

Great lock for Apple Homekit and on it’s own. Works well and paired instantly. Installation was very easy and the install video is one of the best I’ve seen for any accessory. I may be missing it but the Schlage app should be lockable with a passcode, touch-id and face id. You can add users and codes in the app so you don’t really just want it out there. Also, it didn’t affect me but the 2 default codes on my paperwork didn’t work after installation. I just went into the app and added my own codes. Very happy with it so far.

Best modern tech. This device is great. Allows in my home (which is the old school everyone always coming over) for multiple people to enter without keys. And me to be able to change the entry when I no longer want them to have access. Also, have several rental properties. Has revolutionized short term rental. No longer have to worry about getting keys to or from renters. I love it. Highly recommend. I have purchased five. Well worth the money. Easy to install customer service is outstanding.

Unreliable app, good lock. I’ve never had an issue with the Schlage Sense lock itself, but the app has been unreliable. I recently bought the wifi adapter so that I can check my door is locked when I’m away, unlock remotely, etc. It worked fine for about five days. I’m out of the country and while it still shows my door as locked, suddenly I get an error message when I try to view the history and I’ve stopped receiving notifications for no apparent reason. I also can’t access my codes to view or add. I spent an additional $55 for features I can no longer use. Frustrating to say the least.

Reliable. It has been 4 years and one major power surge, requiring new WiFi. Reconnection to new WiFi needed resetting the adapter. Very simple, just follow the instructions. In general so far no major problem, you can see it in google home, but it only works from it’s own app. Our model is not compatible with Apple home kit. I decided to make small addendum. Ideally this app needs Apple Watch option. This will make it super convenient.

Great Product works as advertised. I really like this app and our Schlage smart lock. Connects to our WiFi and stays. Alerts us when locked, unlocked, or a forced entry attempt. This app allows customized settings including auto (re)lock. The one feature I’d like to see added is the ability to auto lock at a certain time (ie 10pm every night) in case door is left unlocked and/or a “door unlocked“ reminder. Thanks!

There needs to be definite improvements. I've been using the app now for over a month. Sometimes it does not record events related to locking or unlocking the door, which defeats the whole purpose of having the app. Sometimes it just goes off-line. It just totally erased the data from previous month before and I had no indication that it was going to do that so we lost it. Firmware updates often were difficult to complete for weeks. In theory this app is good when it's working but there are too many bugs and lapses in important data for me.

Fantastic App!!!. This lock we have is on a second home we rent out on AirBnB and other booking sites and it is absolutely fantastic! It has worked almost flawlessly since the day it was installed. Only issue was a power outage happened and I couldn’t access the lock however when the power came on all was good once again and it was not the apps fault that’s for sure. I can easily allow a contractor or cleaner access and I am 300 miles away. I’d suggest this setup to anyone with a second home.

Great WiFi alternative. I’d been looking for a lock that didn’t require me to install yet another Hub in order operate. We have great WiFi at our home (Ruckus Wireless) and this lock works flawlessly once setup. I can enter temporary codes, unlock it remotely, auto-lock after 2-minutes of being unlocked, and all utilizing the WiFi that already exists in my home. No additional equipment required. A great option for those who love IoT, but hate having to install and manage a new Hub for every manufacturers product suite.

Excellent and the best of the bests. Believe me, I have tried other brands. One brand wants you to drill another hole and the app is terrible. Another brand is easy to install but the app is terrible. These apps do not let me do what Schlage apps let me do! I can create different codes for different guests at different times. I would know who gets access at what time. It is the best and great for home and STR use! And did I say it’s easy to install???!!! It was a breeze with no knowledge of lock installation or being tech geek!!! Highly recommend!

Skilled with experience. Not all doors have the same exact replacement fits. Some skilled modifications may be needed on the woodwork. The product and the app work As I sit here locking and unlocking the door and receiving notifications. If the power or internet is out, I have a lockbox with the keys provided to manually gain access. I carry the second key as I normally have for redundancy. The audible and backlit functions give auditory and visual confirmation of the lock or unlock status. The quality is sound and attractive

Front Door Lock - Keypad model. This replaced a 20 year old conventional deadbolt lock that was failing to open consistently. I was able to remove the old lock myself, but had a locksmith complete the installation. Battery life is great, I just replaced the original set today. That’s 7 months on one set! Got a warning that the batteries were low on the app. Also nice to have a key in case the batteries fail while you are outside. Highly recommended as a new or replacement front door lock. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s pretty good. Simple, no frills, usually reliable…however, I have had a reoccurring issue where I am randomly signed out of the app without any apparent cause. I have yet to be in a situation where this would pose a real problem for me, just doesn’t seem good that an app built for a security device would do this. Also, why no widget? The main page of the app is essentially a widget as it is, and an actual widget with this would be way more accessible

Slow To Connect-Requires Additional Device. We purchased a new front door and the seller offered this lock with as an add on with the hardware. I already had a Schlage Connect (which connects nicely with my Wink hub) lock on the door but decided I could move it to the back door. Great plan until the new door was installed with the Schlage Sense. Now I have buy a Schlage WiFi adapter for 80 bucks so, maybe I can use it with Alexa and so maybe I can get alerts when the lock is unlocked or so I can lock or unlock it when I am not home. Plus, I had to install another frikken app on my iPhone. I have to wait and wait and wait for the app to connect just to use it at home. Very frustrating that it is not compatible with your other locks.

Update is impossible. The app tells me to update but refuses to do it. I’ve been trying for weeks on end and it refuses despite giving me a red warning to update. I have deleted the app and re-downloaded again and still refuses and still tells me to update. It has also set of it alarm several times when I walk out the door. I have an operating RING system and it works good. Wrong lock?? Maybe a mistake getting Schlage.

Satisfied but it could be better.. This “smartbolt” lock as it is set up works fine. It needs awareness of the status of the door. Is the door closed and latched? Is the door not latched? Is the door standing open? All this information could be gathered from switches on a passage lock with a split bolt. If someone opened and closed the door during the time-out interval, that interval could be reset. If the door is standing open or not latched at the end of the time-out period it could flag the caretaker that info.

5 ⭐️minus 1. I’ve had my locks for about a year now and I absolutely love them. The app is great and easy to use; however, I am unable to update to my new email address within the settings. Because everything is tied into my HomeKit, I don’t want to delete the app and start again out of fear that everything will screw up. I get many companies don’t allow this option for “security” reasons, but it makes things difficult for the consumer - especially if they no longer have their former email address. For now, I will just keep things as they are.

New lock is not compatible with my original system. I intentionally purchased a new schlage system for my homes side door because I’ve been using a schlage system for 10+ years now. Yes, it’s always had glitches but it’s easy and I’m used to it’s flaws. To my surprise the new door lock is not compatible to the schlage home app. How horrible and a terrible waste. So to get my older lock to work more consistently I had to purchase either a hub or get an Apple TV. I chose the Apple because there were the additional features that I could use. Well, I’m told this new lock uses Alexa as a hub. 😡 why wouldn’t all of the systems use the same hub????

It would be great if it worked. To be Crystal clear - the ONLY reason I switched to these VERY expensive locks - is so they would integrate & be automatically programmed when guests book my STR. This usually happens. But when it doesn’t, if I need to program a guest or anyone else manually this app spins & spins & spins - until it tells me there was an error. I spent $80 on a Sifely lock which works great but doesn’t automate codes for guests. The app on this “cheap” brand programs flawlessly! In moments. How can a VERY expensive brand have a worse app? Disappointing & frustrating.

Crap App, Good Lock. I love that you can remotely input codes and lock/unlock your door... but that’s only when the app is working, which it isn’t a frustrating amount of the time. When it does work, it’s incredibly slow, like set the phone down and come back after taking a shower slow. The lock, on the other hand, works great! Stylish, easy to use, and sturdy, though it doesn’t not agree with lots of water. It’s got good torque when locking, though I wish it had more when it comes summer time and the door expands so much the lock has a tendency to jam. We are also testing the Nest lock, which has a MICH BETTER app, but the torque doesn’t seem as good.

Works, but slow for many. WiFi doesn’t work.. We have about 10 people authorized on our lock. For six of them, opening the door takes nearly a minute. At first the lock shows open (it’s locked), but the last status was several months ago when the app was used to open the lack the day before. About a minute after touching the button something times out and the lock shows Locked as it should. You can then open the lock. We could never get the WiFi interface adapter to work even with support. It looks like the adapter is somehow incompatible with our WiFi network. I suspect we are using a level of security the adapter doesn’t support.

“Unreachable”. Unable to get the app to work. I have followed instructions including resetting the lock, restarting my phone, updating the app. After restarting and resetting, the app will work nicely while I’m standing next to the lock. But walk somewhere else and “unreachable” appears again. I hope apple or the developer can intervene. After paying extra for this feature and all of the trouble it took to install, it would be a relief to have this working correctly.

Schlage Lock. I have had this lock for several years, in addition to other top brand smart locks. I can say with confidence that Schlage smart lock is probably the best lock. I have had no troubles with this lock. With many changes in wifi and batteries, connection remains steadfast and reliable. I with the battery was made to last much longer. Other than battery replacement, this lock remains very reliable with top notch performance.

Homekit integration still very unreliable. The app itself is ok, but since iOS 12 Homekit integration has been very unreliable. I have move Apple Tv4 to within a couple of meters away from lick. Have tried everything s from a factory reset to apple tv rest. Lots of tedious, unnecessary work. For a few iOS versions it worked, then failed again. About to to purchace schlage wifi adaptor and abandom homekit. Apple and schlage have give me the run around, blaming each other. Very frustrating because otherwise it is a great lock.

Unlocking randomly recently. I have unused this product for years and it is great. Recently, however, like many other reviewers, I started to get random false locked/unlocked notifications. More troubling, I recently had the door unlock by itself several times without me taking any action on the app. We were home each time, so there was no danger, yet this is still troubling. I have not been able to solve for why this happened.

Vacation rental. I have 3 vacation rentals they are all on the Encore. This allows me to program from wherever I am. I can set dates and times. Know when renters arrive and leave. Can make sure they have locked the doors and if they haven’t locked them I can lock them from my phone. I use my older schlag locks on my housekeeping closet. And the guarantee of replacement is awesome. I have had to use the guarantee and yes they send you a new lock if yours ever malfunctions. This is only lock company I will ever use and recommend it to other vacation rental owners.

Schlage Sense. After installing the above lock after 2 years still works amazingly with Apple Mobile App ! Make sure a WiFi wireless device for the lock is always connected and left ON about 30feet of the lock on to a outlet 120 line ! Could remotely open and lock the dead-lock ! Would recommend to anyone Only remember to change batteries when the App indicates You ! Product deserves All 5/5 Star’s

Good for the most part!. The app has great features to it and works well for the most part. However, it does bugs out a ton and will freeze or have connectivity issues. Running a rentals & AirBNBs is sometimes tough because the app can take a while to load and will require me to close out & reopen often. The app just needs some updates and I feel like it’ll be a great experience! Would maybe be nice to be able to do it from a desktop too, but that’s just my three cents haha.

Update to my issue. So thinking it was an iOS issue, turns out the batteries needing replacing, even though in the Schlage app it showed my batteries were at 100%. Once I changed them, the lock is connecting fine to HomeKit. My lock was working great with HomeKit up until the last iOS update. 17.4 seems to have messed it up, now I keep getting no response. I reset my router and WiFi but keep getting the dreaded no response.

Just needs a schedule. The app works great and the lock is fantastic. I love the piece of mind of not worrying if my kids locked the door at night. I just wish there was a way to have the auto lock feature on a schedule. It’s a pain sometimes when I’m running in and out of the house every few minutes and have to unlock the door. It would be very beneficial to have the ability to tell the lock to have the auto lock feature set to on at say 6 pm. Just that one feature would give it 5 stars.

Good thinking!. My husband and I downsized to a villa from 30 years in a house in Jupiter. When we changed our door to a storm door with a decorative window in it to let in light and allow us to see out, we wanted a lock that was secure and found it. What a plus that it came with an application to allow us to lock and unlock it with ease. We are going through some health issues which are challenging to say the least and this lock is making a few things easier, and that’s saying a lot. Thank you!

Good app with one adjustment. App works as intended. Pretty straightforward and simple to use. Just wish that the auto lock feature was more customizable. You get up to 5 minutes and that’s it. Adding maybe a slider to really customize the time before it locks would be great! If you really want to impress, add a feature that auto locks at a certain time of the day. Example: you forget to lock your door but the system locks it everyday at 8p regardless. Other than that, it’s a pretty good app. 5 + 5 stars if I can fully customize the auto lock feature!

Solid quality. This Schlage lock replaced a different electronic lock that was unreliable. Also, it’s obvious that the Schlage is still built strongly with security being foremost. Update: (one year later). The lock continues to operate flawlessly, battery life is very good, but will vary with usage and wifi proximity . We change batteries twice a year and have never lost access. The app has been update several times and is very user friendly.

Security and Peace of Mind. We purchased our home several years ago and during that time we had several keys handed out to family members just in case there was an emergency and we were out of town. That being said, I noticed a young man looking around my porch on my security cameras. I changed out both the handle and the deadbolt to match. No more having y to wonder of the door is secure. The app allows you see that it is open or locked.

Door sensor syncs and longer auto lock timer. First we need to have door sensors that can be synced with the lock so it knows the door is open or closed. And we should have more options for auto lock I would like an option of 30 and 45 minutes added also the 4 minutes is not even enough time to bring groceries inside Both are really simple fix and 2 to 5 star

App is terrible. I can be sitting directly next to my lock, on the same wifi network as this lock, and the connection to the lock does not work properly. It says “last connected last month” a message which persists until I manually unlock the lock with the app open, at which point it will connect to the lock, but if I leave the app it reverts back to the “last connected last month” message. When I click refresh it spins for a while then tells me the lock is unreachable. Essentially the app is completely useless which negates any fancy features of this lock. It’s just a lock that locks itself automatically, which I could have gotten much cheaper.

Updated Review: App update no good, no customer service available. Bought the lock and got it installed. App set up was easy and I was all linked up. App advised I needed an update and so installed that. Now the app won’t recognize my lock. Attempted to call customer service and stayed on hold for 35 minutes without an answer. Sent an email to the customer service department and haven’t heard from anyone... it’s been two days now. Did get a reply to my original review saying they are sorry for the negative experience...and nothing else. No support option provided. well that doesn’t help my situation as the app still doesn’t work.

Simple Installation and Setup. Very easy to install and setup. Just download the app and follow the step by step video instructions. Only issue I had was the wifi setup that took about 2 tries before it connected to home wifi (maybe because of 3 out 4 signal bar). But after it connected, the lock worked flawlessly. As long as you have wifi or cell phone signal, you can unlock and lock door anywhere with the app. I will connect Alexa and Google Mini after using the app remotely in a week. Schlage Encode is the best!

Unhappy.. Very unhappy. First the lock I got drained 4 batteries every 48 hours. I got locked out of my condo once. It took 4 months and many follow up calls to to receive a replacement . I then had to pay a locksmith (again) to install. Now the replacement doesn’t connect to my Wi-Fi and the customer service isn’t helpful. I submitted a request to speak with someone and was never contacted. The only nice thing I can say is that the key works. (But that defeats my goal of being able to lock and unlock my door from my phone. As a mom - my hands are always full coming in the door and I hoped this would make my life easier. It has not.)

Good layout design but unreliable. This app is laid out nicely and works well when it works. It is completely random when the notifications will and will not work. Some days notifications work every time and other days only sporadically and other days not at all. That and it asking for access to bluetooth every single time the app is opened is an annoyance. Update: i appreciate the developer offering assistance. However, I have been in touch with Schlage directly both via email and telephone to no avail. They even sent a whole new lock to try and resolve the issues, but the new lock did the same things.

Please move the location of the Delete All button. I love the lock! And I love everything about the app except the location of the Delete All button. I'm so afraid I'm going to accidentally delete all the lock codes when I swipe up to close the app on my iPhone. That would lock out my BnB guests! I would have given the app a 5 star rating if it weren't for that. Please move that button to someplace where we couldn't possibly hit by accident. Thanks!
