Fugue Machine : MIDI Sequencer App Description & Overview

What is fugue machine : midi sequencer app? A music sequencer reimagined with multiple playheads.

"How Bach would have made a sequencer." (Create Digital Music)
"A musical feat." (Creator's Project)
"A new approach to sequencing." (XLR8R)
"A next generation music sequencer." (Ask Audio)

Fugue Machine is a tool inspired by composition techniques used in Baroque music and Serialism — e.g. Bach’s canons and fugues, and Schoenberg’s twelve-tone technique. The idea was to design a tool to manipulate a melody’s speed, direction, and pitch, as well as play multiple variations of the melody simultaneously.

As it turned out, the best implementation for this was to reimagine one of the most fundamental building blocks of all music sequencers: the piano roll.

Fugue Machine is the world’s first multi-playhead piano roll. Create a music sequence and play it back with up to four playheads at once — each at various speeds, directions, pitches, and more. Watch the playheads dance, and hear the complex patterns that emerge.

It’s mesmerizing.

Fugue Machine supports iPhone, iPad, MIDI, AUv3 MIDI, Ableton Link, Audiobus, Audiobus 3 MIDI, and Inter-App Audio. Thanks to the AUv3 standard, you can run multiple instances of Fugue Machine on the same device when hosted in an AUv3 MIDI host app — like Logic Pro, AUM, and Audiobus.

Bach Master:). I have used this app since its inception. The level of creativity and fun derived from this app is infinitely greater than the price tag. I have used this for Ableton productions, triggering analog gear and getting me out of compositional ruts. The only thing more exceptional than the product is the developer himself. He has personally emailed me several times with thorough answers to help me route the app to the external world.

Sooooo gooooood!!!. This an amazing and very well done sequencer. Great tool for creating complex or simple yet interesting melodic sequences. The multiple playheads each doing there thing really bring the patterns to life. I'm a score composer for Snap judgment and I use this all the time. I also use it as my main melodic sequencer in my live set sending each play head to separate synths. Highly recommend! Pretty much the reason I got an iPad. It's a game changer!!

Amazing tool - have some requests. This is providing me a lot of wonderful music making during the quarantine lock-down and I am having so much fun sending the note data of the sounds to my synths. My requests for future updates would be for a way to go from pattern A to pattern B in a way that let’s the first pattern complete. So that you you can go from pattern to pattern on your phone without cuts to the flow. It would also be cool if there was a Swing feature available for the rhythm. Lastly it would be cool if you could unlock a single tape-head from the octave changes. Love this app tremendously. I’m trying to use it in a way that I can perform live with a drummer. The human I am quarantined with haha

Such a unique composing tool. As an amateur pianist coming into composing recently this app is a godsend! Only wishes are: 1) if there’s a way to omit certain parts or notes for different voices while also not cluttering the UI. Now I can do this for two groups of voices by manipulating the velocity values. 2) I think for the knobs it could be easier to use if the typical convention of only relative (up down) movements are used to change the values. It gets tricky sometimes try to turn it to a specific angle. 3) it would be even more awesome if user can put in their custom scales!

Excellent. My single most used music creation tool. I can't say enough good things about fugue machine. I find it to be an incredible scratch pad, and look to it for inspiration when I'm running dry. I have absolutely nothing bad to say, and only one request - that midi export be implemented at some point.

Pure Compositional Genius!. This is an incredible sequencing app that's very intuitive to use. It's very easy to set up and get the gist of within minutes. Yet, it allows you to create beautifully rich music compositions. Certainly a must-have for anyone interested in composing music on the iPad. Highly recommended!!!

Great app. Really having a lot of fun with this. My only issue— the piano roll should show the note names. This would make the app easier to use, especially for those of us with some music theory chops. Correction - there is an option to show the note names in the piano roll.

Multiply my stars by 10. This app is amazing. If you're just getting started with music you'll be amazed at the results you'll get just by tweaking and playing around. Happy accidents abound and often turn into the most beautiful sounds. If you're an experienced musician, this app is deep enough that it will have you thinking about your compositions in a totally different way. Change the tempo or key, remove or add a note and all of a sudden things start to click. You can easily build amazing loops in the app using the included sound, but the real power comes when using it as a source to drive other iOS synths. I love love love the new updates as well. The app just keeps getting better.

Must have!. This thing is so good! Only thing I wish it had is the ability to chain patterns together. The problem would be how to sync each players head to move on to the next pattern? Maybe this is why it’s not an option? it’s not possible in our realm 😂 buy it!!!

So fun and useful. This continues to be one of the best musical apps I’ve ever purchased. It’s solid and adds a ton of usefulness to the iPad as a musical tool. I find myself using it on the iPhone, too. iPhones can be tricky to play with a midi keyboard since the screen is so much smaller. This brings synths on the iPhone alive. Typical setup for me is using AUM to host Fugue Machine and a few synths. If generative/iterative music interests you, add Fugue + AUM and see where it takes you. If functions like a real pro-level instrument.

Stunning Results with Hardware (updated). Fugue Machine may very well be the finest, most inspiring music tool on my iPad when it comes to using the iPad to drive external hardware. I haven't used it much to sequence other apps on the iPad, but if you're looking to do something amazing with your outbound hardware synths, this is The One. The latest MIDI implementation is as flexible as you'd want it to be and rock solid (whether it's receiving clock or transmitting it). I'm sending out each track to a variety of MIDI channels, over USB out to a sync box, which passes on MIDI and/or CV/Gate to a 70s analog synth, a modular Eurorack setup, and to a popular keyboard controller. It would take a load of hardware to both handle the sequences and the interfacing, and I'm not really sure anything like this app could be assembled anyway. This is one of the few apps that make me want to buy another iPad, install nothing but Fugue Machine on it, and put it away in a bank vault, "just in case". It's made my collection of 40 years of hardware even more capable of incredible music. 5 stars! (April 3, 2017 Update - Keeps getting better! New system for Pattern Backup and Export works flawlessly... 6 stars!)

Amazing, but outdated. Alckemy here. This little device has become a major staple in mobile sound design and idea crafting inside of Drambo. A multi playhead sequencer is almost like having a “bach” button that creates super inspiring progressions and sequences and is highly usable. I’m its current state it’s already awesome, but I do think some updates are in need as I don’t think the app has been patched… ever? I don’t need much, just the ability to set the playback mode to a hz rate, nudge the notes off grid, and some tweaks to copy/paste as it does not work for me outside standalone. On that note, it’s weird you can’t save or pull up presets while using it in plug-in mode, although it will remember the state if you save the entire rack in either drambo or Aum. I wish this app existed in bitwig or as a plug-in for the computer. It’s mad handy 天

Brilliantly accessible app for idea generation and fun making music. Fugue machine is simultaneously easy to jump into with a genius interface for building melodies and themes, and also flexible with what you can achieve with MIDI output, sample loading, and Ableton Link. As an app developer myself, I appreciate that the creator of Fugue Machine is genuinely dedicated to continuing to make this app amazing. I've recommended this app highly to a number of my professional musician friends and associates, and extend that recommendation to anyone reading this review.

A Must Have. There's a short list of "must have" iOS music applications, and there's another short list of "one of a kind" music apps, and Fugue Machine is on both. Amazing tool with top tier support by the developer.

The best sequencer for quick workflow. Not a normal sequencer but very innovative and opens up a world of possibilities. I have used it since it came out and has been a part of my live setup for years.

Amazing Midi Sequencer. I've mostly used this for creating ambient music, as the four play heads really can create evolving soundscapes. The addition of changing loop zones on the fly is amazing, and it is so easy and fluid to change notes in the piano role. Amazing app! Check out his other apps Arrpegionome and Pro if you haven't.

This app is amazing!. I can’t stop using it. I wake up with it and go to sleep with it. Single change can create a difference in the music,. Thank you for building this !!!

Absolutely exactly what I have been looking for. It works with my hardware perfectly. It allows me to work with midi in a multi channel or stacked fashion like a standard daisy chain in a manner I Can actually perceive ! It’s seamless with iOS daws and apps ! Damm fine sequencer app! Simple to use and elegant . I have just purchased this and have already been blown away! Wow! Peace Christo👽🎶🐕🛸☮️👏

Great app - would be A++ with MIDI control. By now this is an amazing app that everyone loves. But please consider adding a midi learn function (or at least a midi CC implementation chart) so we can use Midi hardware controllers to control the various parameters. I imagine this is not a trivial update but would make it super playable.

Cool concept but playback is wonky. Playback on iPhone 13 mini is wonky and sounds randomly shuffled and out of step regardless of buffer or playback settings. Really a bummer since it makes listening to what should be an amazing little piano roll kind of unbearable.

Easy and complex. Elegant simplicity makes Fugue Machine easy to use immediately but it’s makes refined complexity possible. You can dive as deep as you want. At its deepest level it’s a kind of Sudoku puzzle maker for the composer in us.

Mind-boggling cool 😎. I can think of features I would like it to have, but I've so far only scratched the surface of what it can do, so it might already do everything I've imagined my dream music app doing. Wow! 🤯

Much More Than Meets The Eye!. Hi Alexander. I wanted to personally thank you for your wonderful invention. I have avoided this type of tool until now because I did not realize that something like FM could be used as an improvising instrument. But I got curious when it was recently on sale... and, wow, what an awesome surprise! As I explored the various parameters (some seemingly benign ones like “Start”) I realized I could do much more than just generate some patterns. The control of pitch, tempo, octave, direction, in and out of playheads all engaged me in a progressive, real-time creative experience that I had never had before. The capability of recording the four individual playheads was a tremendous asset in creating finished mixes, allowing me to orchestrate the real time improvisations as true modern classical or ambient finished tracks. As a jazz improvisor breaking the bounds of my own concepts has always been paramount. FM allowed me to do that in a brand new way. So, thank you so much for making FM! BRAVO!! TOTALLY RECOMMEND THIS AMAZING TOOL!

Inspiration at its best. I mainly use this app to control the various synth apps I have and it is not only easy to use, but very inspiring, especially when your having a hard time getting the ideas out!! This is an awesome app to have in your arsenal!

Such a great tool.. Great user interface, design touches. Bravo. The auv3 implementation is rock solid. My top feature requests are -add automatable features, mainly in AUM i want to control the shift-slider via cc message. - sending a sustain pedal per playhead would be nice too. -being able to assign midi signal (cc or note) to play global playhead and individual playheads. - mute playhead not just stop would be cool too. -undo would be nice - copying selected notes not just the option to delete. If i had to choose my top choices would be automate slider and copy notes. Love the work thanks

GarageBand IPadOS support?. Lovely app, tons of possibilities. But. I play in GarageBand on theAir Pad 3. Fugue Machine does not show as an AUv3, only as an IAA. And will not respond even then. I know the whole Apple decision to go AUv3 has caused a fair amount of headaches for you (amazing) developers, as the current & admitted issues that AudioKit is having with my D1 & FM AUv3 plug-ins shows, but can you let me know here if this is gonna get resolved? Only Twitter, etc’s for your contact support here via your website, and I’m not doing them at the mo'. Thank you very.

A wonderful musical tool.. It is so incredibly fun to make new music on this application. So far, even with my most careful planning, I am always surprised with a new and spectacular result. You have to try it. A truly ingenious invention.

Brilliant and refreshing!. It's a really fresh and new way to create music. I think it offers more than just a new way to create music...but a really neat study tool as well. With it, we can test note patterns and learn what combinations work well that we may not have considered otherwise. Not only that, but I think just by playing around with it randomly, it can spark new and fun ideas for songs.

Auv3!! Can you believe it!?. What a killer app this has always been. Now with these new updates it just keeps getting better and better. If you’re wondering if fugue machine is an investment worth making you are absolutely going to love it forever and ever and they will keep making a cooler and cooler!!

Fantastic Composition Tool. Fugue Machine is a fantastic composition tool. It’s also apparently a great live performance tool, according to some videos I’ve seen, but that’s not how I use it. I mostly play with the built-in synth for a while and then use the four MIDI outputs to control other synths, either on my iPad Pro or externally. There are some things I don’t find ideal about the GUI, but it seems that it’s going to stay as it is. My five star rating is in spite of those shortcomings, because what this tool allows me to do is completely unique among all my tools, AND I can operate it with ease (and I have not encountered bugs). Highly recommended for musicians!

Kaboom. That’s the sound of my mind being blown. Just purchased this about 10 minutes ago and doing nothing but playing the preset patterns, my brain is melted. Unbelievably simple on one hand, but so complex in terms of results. You see this basic little pattern on screen and think “There is no WAY that is making this music.” Then you just play one head at a time and break it down to the elements and well whaddya know, it was! So flippin’ cool. Can’t wait to explore this more. Wow.

What a creative blessing!. Short and simple..these folks at RUIR have created a sequencer which is as close to AI in music as I have seen. It brilliant! It will play tight or loose but the real strength is how it manages to make the separate voices work together to bring about truly special bars. Great job guy!

Great idea. Great idea works great if they can make it record into garageband it be wounderful until then it's just a cute toy james I know how to make interapp audio work I can make korg module play into fugue machine but can't make it record into garage band only the internal synth records into garage band did send email to developer did not answer he answer here to make himself look good. But now I don't want a response I have given up on the app James I have tried fugue machine once again. I've been in it 5 hrs now I deleted it reinstalled it. Opened garageband inter app fugue machine opened Poison-202 can not get it to record Poison-202 into garageband can only record the internal synth that is in the fugue machine

Great App. This is a great app as a tool or for finding ideas you may not have otherwise considered. The app seems rock solid so far. I'm running it on the iPad Pro 9.7 with Nave, Animoog, MicroTerra, iELECTRIBE, Skram, Lemur and Launchpad. Arpeggionome from this guy is just as good.

Thanks for the Update. Not having used Fugue Machine since the update, but I can see there's even more stability and composing tools. I appreciate the extent which your app engages me in one of my favorite pass times. (Still trying my hand at a working definition of 'recursive')

Creative.. Really throws you sounds that you never would have thought of. Links to different apps through Abelton and mixing different synths and such is great. Get it.

Everyone should have this. One of the best iOS music apps. I would love to see some features to make it more playable. Specifically more control over pattern transposition to specific chords, and a song mode to link patterns. That would make it a complete song-sequencing tool. But as it is now - honestly great.

Insanely easy and effective💗. Thank you for creating this application. It has opened my eyes to the portability of making music on the fly. I am learning so much each time I sit in front of it. looking forward to any app you choose to focus your energy.

Very fun, creative midi app. I love the concept of this app running multiple play heads over the same set of notes, but at different speeds, in different directions. Can make for a very interesting foundation. Now that they've jumped into Audiobus3 as one of the first few apps to exploit the new MIDI system, it really does provide a unique capability.

As amazing as they say.... Perhaps even more so. This is one of the most brilliant pieces of software I have used on any platform. With the recent updates, this app has further blown my mind and become even more fun to use. Improvements to the MIDI - routing of each of the four playheads have also made the app even more user friendly. If you even dabble in ios music making, you need Fugue Machine in your life. If you are a serious iOS music maker you already have this on you iPad and already know the genius of it. Alex - thank you for all the amazing work you've been putting into this app.

1.5.11 Update greatly improved! 🤓👍. Update: The piano roll works like a dream now. Still nothing on the App Store like Fugue Machine. It’s a lot of fun to play with! —— l saw the latest big app update and loaded it. Still checking it out but things seem a lot better now! Thanks to the developer and also for their response! Many developers won’t do that. Plus 2 stars! 🤓👍 —— Kills creativity with the worst Piano roll editor I’ve ever touched! Terrible! It’s a nightmare! Auuuughhhh!! 🤬 Working with the notes, being physically way too small, and you can’t zoom the piano roll at all, I spend 9/10 of the time ‘fighting’ with the note editor and cleaning up mistakes. Auugh Auugh! It’s an instrument wanna-be. You can’t even position the play head/s! All you can do is start/pause them and start over?! It’s a really cool idea done poorly. Obviously all these 5-Star reviews haven’t really tried using the app because it’s user interface is so restrictive. It’s an exercise in tedium... (Oh, on 1G iPad Pro)

Love the app. Really awesome personality to the music you can make with this. I’m curious if you’ll implement using different kinds of piano or our own sample as the not being played? I see I can do midi for each tape head but I haven’t done that or know how to link it up yet with anything else. Would love to know if that’s in the works or not. Either way it’s a great app!

Wish all the arrow play buttons were /on off. See title….great program ; …also wish you could set each note to its own individual velocity and bend

iPhone functionality is gross. Can’t communicate with GarageBand, but yet it shows up as an AUv3 option. When clicking on it, it just migrates to fugue… can’t change sounds, only pitch… I saw a video of someone using this on an iPad and they were able to have this app communicate with a few different ones and from there, change sounds/instruments… if this is not an option for iPhone then why make this available for iPhone?? It’s not even an option to copy the MIDI into GarageBand! Seriously, if you can’t fix these issues then for iPhone this should be a free app. I paid full price but got maybe 5% of the app. Not cool man… and this app is even advertised as an “additional extension” within GarageBand. So to be fair, I’m equally disappointed in Apple about this. This app looked so useful 😔 I guess it serves me right for paying for something and expecting to get what I paid for 😞

Such a good idea. What I love: making things I might not have thought of, guiding it in a way that isn’t arbitrary and doesn’t have to have the blandness that other “inspiration tools” might have. What I want: exporting MIDI files. I like to make things on the phone and then open them in my DAW (which is not Ableton) and it seems like a no-brainer to include this option. Also, more sounds. Not a whole synth necessarily, but some more options. And most importantly: when a playhead is going in reverse it acts like a tape playhead would and triggers the note at its note-off. I would find it more useful musically if I at least had the option of it triggering the note at its note-on position on the timeline when playing in reverse. (When I superimposed a 16th note figure in reverse over a quarter note figure, since the original notes were all 16th in length, the reverse sequence sounded early. Could I get it to do something different by changing note lengths? Yes, but I liked the original notes as they were.

So much fun!. I’ve wanted something like this for years. The ability to pipe the MIDI out to external apps is awesome since the app only has one sound. I just wish there was an audio version.

5 stars, but.... Love the app, but a few things can make it better. 1.) On the preset page, a warning message is needed before erasing the current program! I've lots many projects this way when I was trying to save them. 2.) The ability to import midi patterns would be extremely helpful.

Easily a 6 stars out of 5. This is a brilliant instrument. Yes it’s a sequencer, but I see it more as a instrument and a composing tool. The only wish I have is the ability to see the notes names somewhere. It’s easy to get lost playing it and hit a less than pleasant combo. That would go away in part if we could see the notes names or the chords/scales someplace in the interface. Another wish would be the ability to play patterns manually, as opposed to having to clutter the screen with not just a menu, but a submenu. Having 4 to 8 buttons to assign patterns to would rock. Literally. Even if it means squeezing the interface a bit. Maybe an overlay? I am already doing this using the submenu, but it occluded the screen for any other work. By the way, I have the most fun with it driving my computer midi over WiFi. There is something magical in holding an iPad in your hands and hear sound out of your speakers. Recording the patterns is pretty easy too and the results rival or better dedicated midi arpeggiators. This is simpler and more versatile. Great job.

Amazing MIDI Controller. I love this app to control both synths and drum machines. I would love it even more if a random note generator were added. If that increased the price it would be worth it.

Thanks, Alexander, for making this universal!. I had purchased Fugue Maker quite some time ago for iPad, and I’m excited it now supports iPhone for no additional charge. I’m not a power user or avid musician, but I truly enjoy tinkering with this brilliant and powerful musical tool. Thanks again for the update.

Arpeggio Heaven. Sheer madness. Beautiful, unusual and very interesting.

A must have app. Can't remember the last time I felt so compelled to rate an app so quickly. So original yet so strangely familiar and intuitive from the off. Within minutes I had new ideas that I would've never have had with it this unique app. 5 stars.

Deeply inspiring!. This sequencer fits comfortably on the train as it does in the studio. I would have given it 5 stars if the playheads could be randomised (new dice roll per step) and if the play heads could be modulated by LFOs / S&H. Still, a wonderful piece of musical inventiveness.

Brilliant. Clever sequencer with a simple interface

Buy it, play with it. Simple in execution and concept, it gets amazing results in no time at all.

A must-have.. I have been waiting for a sequencer like this. It's a simple idea that that was probably pretty complex to implement, but Alexander has brought it into existence beautifully. Just a pleasure to use and experience. Wonderful!

Unique. Feels like it could do with the ability mute individual notes on the piano roll. I can understand why it has rave reviews, initially it feels a bit like a music generator, however, this program is deceptively good now having spent some time using it.

Great music composition app. What a great compositional tool! Bach would have loved this.

Great!. Simple yet beautiful concept. Joy to use.

Stunning.. Brilliant app with great midi implementation. Looking forward to future updates that expand and explore the midi side of things.

Awesome. Plug this into PolyStepArp and kiss goodbye to a few hours. Seperate MIDI out per head pushes it further over the edge.

Best. Best sequencer out there on the iPad

Brilliant. One of the easiest and funnest music apps out there!

Oh yeah. Auv3 finally. Five stars just for that. Well done on the iPhone compatibility too.

Inspiration machine. Fugue machine plus Model 15 is a deadly combination!!!

A pure delight. Title says it all. And now even better, with super efficient coding under a great UI.

Unique. This developer has a real knack for making novel and unique midi sequencers-They are great for taking ideas in different direction and fun experimentation. Look forward to his next left of field idea...

A lot of fun. This is a great app to experiment with especially to export the midi to a DAW and use it to dive soft synths. Thanks for creating it.

Clean but limited. Great idea, novel and simple way to generate really complex music, clean well designed interface. BUT I just wish you could export midi properly. To have the the ability to export the different voices (play heads) separately would make this a more powerful powerful compositional tool. Even simple midi export would be nice

Hard work appreciated!. One of the nicest music apps on iOS imo. Great job and happy to support this developer for sure. Thank you

Amazing machine!. Highly recommended & essential!

Unique and fun. This really is a unique app, and uses classic variations techniques to create new melodies. Well worth the money.

Nice little app. I had higher expectations about it. Not sure why its limited to 4 tracks. The sequence’s length could be extended. Would be great. The rounds knobs make life difficult to set a value. The app is easy to use though.

Easy, fun. It's easy to get the hang of and start surprising yourself with great-sounding music. Good integration with Audiobus. Tremendous fun.

Instant Fun. Another great app from Alexandernaut. Instant fun and full of aural surprises. Works equally well sequencing hardware as it does any core midi apps. Highly recommended!

Great inspiration. I find so much inspiration in Fugue machine. Can't believe it now supports separate midi channels for each play head. Looking forward to playing that! A nice surprise in my Updates today!

Well done. Nicely done app. Clean interface. Works well. Original. Easy to get original song structures. One of my favourite apps.

Insanely Amazing!!!. I never give 5 stars, so that means that this machine is the t!ts. You wont be disapointed :[

yum!. Lovely, easy to use melodic sequencing instrument. A brilliant balance of user input and seemingly 'automatic' accompaniment. difficult to describe, simple to harness!

Top drawer. Fugue Machine is unique. Fugue Machine captivates & inspires. Fugue Machine is a must.

Excellent Developer. I love this app. It is fun and inventive. The new update adds greater functionality and smoother performance. Having read the update notes where the developer admitted to spending two months of full-time work writing the cleanest code possible based upon the urging of his conscience, I now love the developer.

Amazing. This app is sick! Very simple to use and produces incredible results. Big fan!

Get Inspired. A great sequencer app that creates multiple layers of interplaying midi music. Great for driving other apps, Ableton allows "jams" with others in perfect time. A great way to expand on projects made in other Apps. Pair this with Audiobus 3 and prepare to be inspired by what you can now do with Fugue Machine MIDI in your other iOS apps. Great on its own and plays well with others. Definitely recommended.

Update Season. I think The dev is feeling energized, lots of updates lately! Well I just made a song with Fugue and let me tell you it was the backbone for an awesome musical experience. A total must have for music creation apps. 🎹 🎧

Unique midi driver. A lot of fun to play with now that each head can be used in separate midi flows with Audiobus 3.

Inspiring. I only just started using this app but already i'm beginning to feel a renewed passion for composing music. I cannot recommend this app enough!

Request: midi import. I’ve learned a lot so far with the sequencer. I would love to be able to import my own midi tunes in order to explore them more as well… Any chance of this?

Amazing Fun and a Creative Tool. Possibly the most fun app I have. A fantastic idea generator with a brilliant implementation. Best part is the midi output is so simple to manage - I can send ideas to my desktop and fine-tune sounds in a DAW with almost no effort. Very worthwhile

Wow!. I can't quite predict how melodies will turn out and that excites me. On its own, this is a great app for a long plane ride, and with Audiobus and Link built in, it's a powerful tool for serious songwriting as well. MIDI out makes it indispensable.

Very cool!. Lots of interesting sounds can be made.

Fantastic!. Interesting new take on a midi sequencer, must have!

Interesting. Fun but your not writing proper contrapuntal structures here. These are much much much simpler. Somebody called this the sequencer that Bach would use. No just no. Real Bach fugues are infinitely more complex and frankly beautiful . Not something a computer can do.

Best. This is the most interesting app I've ever gotten. Flawless performance, great for ideas. Heck I've just watched it play out for long periods because it's so interesting. The fact you can change keys and styles makes this perfect. Highly recommend.

Stunning. All I have to say is that this app is breathtaking. When you get each head hooked up to a different synth and all layering, the sound and composition possibilities are endless. I would also love to see an independent looping for each so to add even more variety. Amazing. I wish I could run multiple instances of this on my ipad. Essential. This along side patterning is phenomenal. Keep it up!

Incredible. I was just about to buy a hardware Groovebox for ideas, this made me change my mind.. unreal the ideas that this generates 👏🏼 I have it linked with a couple synth apps and wow I feel like this changed my life Highly recommended

Very nice !!!. Just love it.

An Inspirational Sequencer Needing a Couple Features. This is hands down the most immediately musical multi-track sequencer I’ve used on iOS. I love it, it pairs wonderfully with so many things, from other iOS synth voices to hardware synths (Fugue Machine and the Elektron Digitone are a match made in heaven). It’s clever and elegant and keeps throwing unexpected and wonderful results back at me. It has a few features needed before reaching greatness. * A MIDI learn function, or documentation on what of its own parameters can be controlled via MIDI would be great. Being able to use the pitch slider from some midi controller like the Rozeta suite’s XY pad, or targeting the individual playheads octaves with MIDI LFOs would be awesome. * Muting or starting/stopping individual playheads via MIDI CC would make this an excellent performance tool in conjunction with a MIDI controller (or polytimbral synths with per-timbre mute like the Digitone :X). * A setting to control key change behavior would be greatly appreciated, e.g. allowing you to switch from a minor to chromatic scale while keeping the exact note sequence, rather than a minor third becoming a major second. * Some version of gate-length per track would be excellent. Currently if I want one playhead to have a noticeable release between consecutive steps I have to do a LOT of work. Obviously gate length in a sequencer like can take on different meanings, but something that allows a noticeable release phase on one playhead and legato articulation on another would be absolutely amazing. * A non-velocity automation lane. Many synths won’t let you change what velocity mod does, so another CC of automation lane would be astounding. (Bonus if the CC is also a per-playhead parameter) This sequencer is INCREDIBLE and I’m very excited to see what’s next for it!

This so much fun⚡️😁✨ufo!. What a smart and fun program I found it easy to use as well tottaly next level ⚡️

Great app. Not much to gripe about.. My go-to app when searching sound patches.

Not only FUN, but FUNctional!!!. From simple to complex. Play it by itself, using other instruments, midi to other apps. The possibilities are staggering.

Fugue Machine is Awesome. I am loving it and can't wait to play more. Amazing!

Excellent. A simple concept that yields very musical and usable results. Works well with other apps and external hardware.

Fabulous. 💎 a brilliant idea! New update is fabulous I love it

Disappointed. Works perfectly, but I miss the chromatic scale, a MIDI rec mode and more than 8 bars in loop length. I hope this can be added in future updates.

Great app, but needs chromatic scale!. Fantastic, but please include the option for chromatic scale in next update. Free the tones, man!

Awesome app. Just great.

Great generative patterns. This is an awesome app for exploring contrapuntal textures and patterns. I got it a while back and am still exploring its possibilities. Fascinating!

A microcosmic example of the possibilities and depth of iOS music production...stunning.. The touch screen of the iPad and iOS devices in general is a match made in heaven for iOS music apps. Like analog buttons & faders and the PortaStudio machines a lot of us started on, the touch interface is so immediate and the format is so compact and mobile I believe thinking out of the box just comes with the territory. This is the case for Fugue Machine, and while aspects of it could be done on a desktop, the multi touch editing and flow just seem to be tailor made for a touch based interface. The cool musical "accidents" that happen with the heads making weird harmonies and the multitouch edits moving or expanding whole phrases is incredible. UPDATE: The new March 2016 update is incredible! Each transport on it's own MIDI output? Just beautifully done, the work done by Alex is just so well done, epoch work.

Rad as Fl4rk. I love this thing. It's an instrument I can't be without.

Outstanding. Thank you so very much for a great app . That is so inspirational to composers. I am sure this is a favorite to many as it is to me . Happy Holiday . To All ...

So much fun. Enjoy! It just gets better.

Love this apps so much. I can finally make the music that I've been wanting to make for so long, thank you.

Great App!. Easy and fun to use. Awesome results. All of this devs apps are 5 star!

Great midi sequencer!. This is a really refreshing take on the piano roll/grid style sequencer. Able to control 4 hardware synths or other apps. Great for ambient composers, or anyone looking to up their counterpoint game.

fun an inspiring. What a great way to make complex layered music. The new version + tight Audiobus 3 integration makes it very easy to use with other instruments on your device. Super rad!

Unbelievably Intricate! Totally random!. This is the business!

Greatest ever. Really great app

Fantastic Concept!. A great idea implemented well! This is fun to play with and helps bust “composer’s block” by seeding bigger song ideas. Bravo!

Beautiful and inspiring. Fugue machine makes it hard to NOT make beautiful music. So simple but brilliant design that lets you get right to the business of expressing yourself

Awesome. Just got it just wish I could adjust volume of each play head I may have missed it

Top 5 apps for creating music. Simply amazing. A must have for every producer.

cool but. how do i load it into logic?

Exceeds every expectation. This is one of the most intuitive fun apps that I have ever had the pleasure of exploring. A great deal an very worth the price, in my opinion.

Must have for music lovers. Just want to thank the developer for the free update. The UI looks beautiful on the new iPad Pro.

Still in love with this app. This app is always giving me innovative creative ideas keep up the good work

Love but this version dead.... This is one of my fave apps but it no longer loads at all. Could not find a support link so here it is Fugue is dead in the water on my iPad Air 2 with 128 gigs :( As of today, May 3, 2017 my installation of App still does not load. I am missing it dearly. Help?

Amazing. This sequencer is genius and I absolutely recommend it.

Yooooo... At a loss for words.. I’m already blown away and I haven’t even hooked it up to any hardware. MIDI clock? Ableton integration? I can’t wait. Good for music rookies and old timers alike. This is just wow. Thank you to whoever made this. Subscribe.

Really a beauty. What a fantastic and intuitive way to harmonize your melody.

New World meets the Old..... So wonderful creating collages with Fugue triggering my old poly synths which have all been updated with midi kits.

This app is genius. So creative. So easy to use. Great compositional tool for producers.

Ok. Ok

Great tool, needs AUv3 midi. This is a really cool app an I’ve used it with hardware and software synths. But it would be great to update it to include AUv3 MIDI so it can act as a MIDI FX Processing plugin in apps like NanoStudio 2! That would be greatly appreciated!

A Real Gem Of An App. I’ve loved this app since day one. The latest update takes it to the next level. Great work Alexandernaut🙏🏼💕👊🏼™️

Unique sequence. One of the most creative sequences I’ve used. Super powerful and well made. UI is designed for performance. No menu diving and changing of views.

This person really knows how to make a music app. Favorite apps by far, can't wait to see what's next.

Unbelievable performance. Absolutely one of the most entertaining apps you can get.

Creative, fun, and super stable. Well coded back end, fun and intuitive front end... A rarity in the world of mobile music apps

Stunning. Nothing like it on iOS! Can't wait for it to be universal. Recommended!

Simply Brilliant. Fugue is my first midi sequencer that I use to audition and write music. It plays well with all my synths on the iPad as well as my Waldorf blofeld hardware synth. This is deserted island must have.

Very cool app – inspires creativity quickly – buy it.. As many of you know, there are PLENTY of music making apps now in the app store, but this app is unlike any of them - and I say that in the most positive way. It brings a unique approach to sequencing music using a Baroque era methods. Because this app takes advantage of modern technologies – including the use of MIDI – the possibilities are limitless (not to mention quickly created with minimal effort). While the app is still in its infancy, it already excels at what it does and is in another class of apps altogether. Features that would be great to have for the serious musician are: 1. Individual track MIDI output / export options (the app already supports coreMIDI input & output but is lacking the ability to send each playhead to a different MIDI channel). 2. sample import functionality so that each playhead can play a sample in both forward and reverse, rather than just a synth sound. Being able to trigger drum samples or vocals snippets in the forward and reverse would be really cool. Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ FOR SURE. Buy this app - you won't regret it. You may need to wait for an update or two for the functionality you are looking for, but you won't be disappointed if you buy it now.

Amazing. An inspiring and inspired creation!

Inspiring!. Fun and easy too use. Well worth the price of admission! What more can I say?
