NH Alerts App Description & Overview

What is nh alerts app? NH Alerts is a free public safety application brought to you by the New Hampshire Department of Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management as a tool to effectively alert, inform and affect lives within the State by providing the community information that could save their lives. NH Alerts delivers free emergency, community and missing person notices generated by authorized officials at the State level. The app also delivers free weather warnings from the National Weather Service to users within the direct path of severe weather. The app is geo-aware, requiring users to turn on their location services so the app may deliver notifications relevant to the user’s current location.

The State asks all New Hampshire residents and anticipated visitors to New Hampshire to download this application to be informed of situations that may immediately affect the public’s safety.

The New Hampshire Department of Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management may send messages to residents and visitors throughout the entire state, or send messages to specific geographic areas to notify only those persons who may be immediately affected by a local emergency. Examples of emergency warnings may include lockdown notices, viral outbreaks, chemical spills, evacuations and active shooter situations.

The app is completely customizable by the end user who may select the types of warnings they would like to receive in the app’s settings. NH Alerts does not collect or store any personal information and the app does not require an account to function. NH Alerts is powered by CodeRED, a community notification system used by public safety organizations across the United States and Canada. NH Alert users may also receive localized CodeRED alerts through this application as they travel outside of New Hampshire to other communities who use CodeRED.

Visit ReadyNH.gov to learn more about this and other initiatives New Hampshire is using to protect residents and visitors.

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Worst app. I really thought this would be a useful app. It's not when all you receive are traffic paving alerts. Example, potential active shooter in the area, would think I'd get an alert under the emergency heading, but no! What's the point if public safety alerts are not provided? Deleting it.

Needs a lot of improvement. Like all the others have said, it’s a good idea, but needs improvement. I agree, the loud alerts are not always necessary. I was hoping to click on the “active alerts” at the bottom & be able to see what the alerts are. I hope an update is in the process...

Great idea but needs improvement. This app was a great idea, but until they give the option to setup custom alert sounds instead of the obnoxious sounds provided or at least an option to disable sounds, but still have a pop up alert I will not have this app installed. Yesterday the annoying sound file played over a dozen times and the app failed to fetch what these alerts were for. My guess was too much traffic/over loaded server. App was deleted because of this and I will not install it again until a 'silent' feature is added.

Great idea--terrible reality. We have some snow today and I keep getting the loud "alert" sound. However, it won't let me click on any of the alerts to see what they are--just tells me there's an error and I need to recheck my network. I'm at home on our wi-fi connection, so that's not the problem. I'm deleting the app. It's not worth being startled by the noise and not being able to get any useful information. If they fix it, I'll try again.

Pretty useless. I get notifications saying that there's an alert for my area, but when I open the app and click on the "Near me" tab I'm told there's nothing in my area. There's a bright red icon telling me the number of alerts (currently 7) but when I click on that nothing displays.

The alerts are not ALERTS!. Many of the reviews focus on how clunky this app is and how it can't be customized. My real issue is that the alerts in this app which are issued by the local governments are not real alerts! How many "alerts" do people need to see about street sweepers and fire hydrant flushing before they stop paying attention. It was a nice idea but it's worthless due to the alerts which are issued.

As said before Great Ideal !. Yes it would be great to have early warning or Alert of possible danger . This App has not worked once threw the last snow storm even when I93 was tied up with an accident ??

Deleted app. Good idea, but ruined by poor execution. I don't need an app that beeps at me for a minor problem on North Carolina.

Ok. Like idea of App. Shows me where alerts are, but, I haven't actually received a sounded alert. I have to open the app to get the info.

Alarms?. Good app, needs some work but the idea is there. Could really use a "No Sound with vibrate" option where as the alarm is obnoxious sitting in the office. Other than that good app.

Update Needed ASAP. A great idea in theory but the bugs in this app are unbearable. Push notifications come through repeatedly yet the alerts do not load in the app. Patch needed!!!

Good, but the text is too small.. Love the app. Hate that I can’t read it since the last update. Please return the font size on the alert details to a legible size.

Loud and inflexible. While this is a super cool idea, unfortunately it did not meet my expectations. It requires that you keep the location tracking on your phone on all the time rather than being able to set your location. This drains the battery continuously. Additionally, every time I open the app, it gives a loud warning. While you can change the warning, there is no option to turn it off or to make it more subtle. This is not good when trying to put a baby to sleep. Therefore, as useful as this app may be, I deleted it.

Needs work. Not sure what the app is trying to tell me. For example, got 5 notifications in 5 minutes and I see only one issue on the map. Then the bar on the bottom shows 5 alerts. When i select the "near me" icon, it shows me a warning that's not near me. Will delete for now and check back later to see if anything gets fixed. Pretty useless as it is now

Horrible Function. I downloaded the app to my phone and tablet. Phone version isn't pushing notifications but shows alerts on the map. Tablet version WON'T STOP PUSHING but then can't pull any of the alerts on the map. I've turned off every setting on the tablet version and it's still blowing up my tablet. App deleted.

Withhold payment. As a NH taxpayer, I hippie the state doesn't pay for thug until it gets fixed. I'll ok with it using location frees when ok if it abruptly relight produced relevant results, but it doesn't.

Terrible. Doesn't work. I get notifications every couple minutes but when I open the app I can't see what or where they are. It just says I have 3 alerts (even though I've gotten 4 notifications in the time it took to write this). Deleting it.

Deleted it.. Ridiculous repeated alerts, the same thing over and over (92 currently), some for towns across the state, regardless of what distance radius you select. Even received an "emergency" thank you from some town in the sticks, thanking people for following a parking ban! Good concept, abysmal execution, rendering it useless. I don't need to be told it's snowing or windy over and over.

Location is always unknown. App seems to mess up location services, it never knows where one is; it keeps turning off location services, but red alert (which this is built on) works fine.

No news could be dangerous. I heard on the TV news that there was a "boil water" directive in Lebanon NH but no notice on this app.

Wait for v1 or v2 release. This app needs work. The alerts take a long time to load (if they load at all). The alerts went off when there were no warnings in my area. The alert sounds are limited and they are all intrusive and annoying. The GPS is on all the time. The app should alternatively allow the user to manually set their desired alert location. I could go on but I think got my point across. Perhaps I'll give it another shot after a few releases but for now I've deleted the app.

Good idea but fails in delivery. I am glad the State of New Hampshire pursuing this technology but the ap does not work well. You are repeatedly notified of the same warning and my iPhone 6 has trouble loading the alerts when opened. I give it 5 stars in concept and 1 in actual function. Try again please.

Horrible. Great idea but it keeps going off every half hour and now it keeps going off every minute saying I have a red alert I click and go to the app and there is nothing!!! Uninstalling. Also you HAVE to have an audible alert. Just vibrate would be ok!!!!

A Mediocre App Going Downhill. No matter what permissions I do or don’t give, if I open the app a blue banner appears stating it’s actively using my location, and this does not go away when I exit the app or even go into other apps. The only way to turn it off is to go into settings and toggle the permissions again. Further, I can never click on the active warnings. I’ll get notifications on my lock screen and then the app tells me nothing. The active warning list won’t open, there are no icons on the map, nothing. This has become a completely useless app.

One more 1 star review. The only thing I can add to the other reviews is that the alert noises drove my dogs nuts. Had to delete the app or suffer the consequences of 2 Labrador Retrievers, not to mention my wife as well.

Won’t load sometimes. When I try to load alert it just goes into never never land and you can’t back out or do anything. So I try to read it but text too small By far worst app I ever have tried to use

App Crashes. Can’t use the app. It crashes when you click on the settings section to actually set it up.

Needs work. I like the variety of choices for alert types and alert radius...if only the radius tool worked. I'm in southern NH and I have 110 alerts - from south of Virginia to Rutledge Vermont to central Maine - and over a hundred in between. I've allowed location services so this isn't the cause. Fix the radius tool and I'll give another star. Give me a button to acknowledge alerts to reset the counter and you'll get another star

Useless app. Alerts all the time then when opened app says no alerts in your area!! Uninstalled

Useless. This app is a great idea but terribly flawed. Mostly impossible to get alerts to load.

Noisy!. You can't get an alert without getting an annoying sound-- you get no choice! You get the same alert every hour. You can't click on the alerts showing-- you see the number of alerts with a value, but can't access them. You can only get alerts for a max of 25 miles--if you are leaving the area, you get no heads up of issues. I deleted it!

Too buggy. A great idea, but not ready for prime time. The app's alert notifications are often out of sync with the actual alerts, or the app indicates there is an error connecting, despite a solid network connection. I was receiving the alert "siren" notification" randomly, and aoften, despite no actual alerts being issued. Perhaps this one was released without enough testing. Had to delete, but hope to see an improved version eventually.

I deleted this APP AFTER CONSTANT BAD ALERTS!. This needs a rewrite by an IT professional! Too many alerts are posted with an terrible selection of audio alerts! Despite settings that claim an ability to select short distances alerts are for a wide area. The offered audio alerts are inappropriate in a state with a distracted driver law. No feedback capability is provided. Very poor app despite the honorable intention.

Not ready for prime time?. Downloaded and installed, followed tutorial and set preferences. App says there are 9 alerts but I can't get to them. *sigh

Used to love it but about ready to delete. Used to live this app but I am about ready to delete it. Within the last week every alert comes thru 8-10 times re occurring every minute. Very annoying. If it doesn’t get corrected soon the app is gone

Works for me. I moved to NH a little over a year ago & this app has helped me out a lot during the winters here with its weather alerts. It also sends alerts out about traffic accidents, stalled vehicles, closed roads, etc. in the area which is good to know when I'm going out, whether or not to take a different route to my destination. The number you see in 'Active Alerts' is for all of USA & 'My Warnings' is for your selected area radius. For those who say that they can see that there's alert(s) in their area but that they can't get to the info about it - you can move the map around & pinch & zoom to see different areas on the map, tap the alert box that it's showing, then tap the circle with the i. That will bring up the alert details & allows you to read it or play the recorded message if you prefer. By tapping the 'Settings' box on the top right of the screen you can customize the type of alerts you receive, choose which audible alarm that sounds when an alert is issued & select your personal warning radius (anywhere from 1 mile up to 25 miles). For those that say the app is showing a red icon with a number [of alerts] but shows no alerts when you open up the app - if you have it set to remove expired warnings, that could be why there's nothing showing when you open the app, the alert(s) have probably already expired (the number will not disappear until you open the app next). I hope some of this info is helpful for others.

Not ready for prime time. The ap tells me there are 3 alerts and keeps buzzing, but it won't show me what the alerts are.

no longer gets alerts. app used to show a red dot for your current location; no more.... in location services the only choice it shows is “never”, and even if i get it to show always it keeps switching back to never.... app doesn’t show alerts for nh which code red shows (code red also shows the red dot for your location)

Terrible App. I can’t delete this app, stop the text messages or change my address. What good does it do me if my CodeRed messages are for an address I no longer live at?

Stopped working. First alert was fine. Then it started sending me the SAME alert every min or so, over & over. Make it stop! Also, after the 1st alert it said unable to connect, fix your settings. I checked settings & they were fine. Still, the same alert keeps coming. Deleting now until next update.

Is this app even functioning anymore?. I have not received a warning since January 2018, makes me wonder if this app is even functioning?

Six identical alerts, all in a row?. No, thank you. I just yanked your app out of my phone. If you ever fix that bug, I *might* reinstall this app.

Disappointed. Very frustrating to use. Not enough categories to make it practical. Traffic needs to be its own category, I work in a school and a highway closure does not warrant a loud alarm. Those should be reserved for life threats only. Frankly each category should allow you to select if you want an alert or just a app badge icon. I have deleted it after it alarms four times today for road closures. Even more annoying is the threat was listed as statewide when in reality the accident was nearly 40 miles from me. There are much better commercial apps that you can get this same info from that allow full customization.

Volume is low. The app is a great idea and I think anytime you can get info on emergencies faster the better. I find that the volume could be increased as it seems low even after I've turned my phone up as loud as I could.

Needs work. I agree with the other reviewers. Needs more customization. Also, it would be nice to view alerts in list format, from nearest to furthest, rather than having to select them off of the map

Needs work. Needs a lot of work. Alerts slow to load & alarms for alerts well outside of designated area.

Deleted the app. It's a nice idea but doesn't work very well. The app has a loud siren alarm and then another when you open it. One is plenty. Also it shows at the top how many alerts you have but there's no where to see what they are. Overall not great.

Useless. I've had two major police activities in my area. Didn't notify me. Local news station did! Don't waste your time

Not what I was expecting.. Disappointed in the app. Needs some upgrades. Would think it would be better coming from the State.

Horrible. I wish I could give no stars... This app will spam you with notifications and it has no good way to view alerts in logical format. It's chaotic and cluttered. Lasted on my phone for less than six hours.

Terrible..don't waist your time. Must be the same people who wrote code on the ACA web page

Beta functionality. No way to set a zip code or other location as the center for alerts -- I have to use my personal location and radius, which is not what I want. Also no way to have a silent vibrate-only alert. Do I really want an audible alarm for "community" alerts? I see two active alerts on the bottom of my screen, but because those are not in my area I cannot see them even if I try. That is just an annoying tease. In short there are some good ideas here but the app needs a lot of work.

Nice idea. BUT it does not work. Would be a zero. Went off about 9 this morning. And kept going off. Its now 12.15p and the alert has not downloaded. We have it on 3 devices. Same story for all of them. Jan 12. It just gets worse. Today there was a bad accident in Portsmouth and rt. 1 was closed about 6 AM. It was on Chanel 9 about 7:45am. It cam out on NH Alerts at 9:02. It needs to be taken down until the state can make it work

v0.15 Not ready for primetime. Don't know what the expectation was, clearly little testing was performed. Deleted the second time, after the multiple alert problem a week or so ago. Will wait until a much later version as others have posted. The app gets stuck retrieving alerts and also shows alerts for other parts of the country before anything shows in-state even though I got a NH warning on my lock screen. I know that most of this is a Code Red problem but some of these problems, and others, are easily found and probably picked up in testing.
