Detroit Free Press: Freep Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Daily news?. I enjoy reading about my old hometown. But this app is like no other newspaper app I’ve had. Its full price yet 1/2 the articles stay up for days! Rather than getting todays’ paper each day & giving me access to archived stories if I want to go back, it’s some new, but many old articles every day. Maybe I’m doing something wrong?

Put up a paywall? Say good bye to my loyal readership. I’ve always loved the Freep and Detnews apps, all of a sudden I start getting a message when I click on certain stories that I must be a subscriber to read that- well guess what- I’ve always sat there and saw all your add content shoved in my face, and it never bothered me because I liked the content, but now I HAVE to pay to see your content? Go jump in lake and take your app with you. My life will not change by not reading your app everyday, good luck going out of business for being greedy idiots

No Access to Article Comments. Overall I like the app, but it has one fatal flaw. You cannot see the free for all that is the online comments for the articles using the app. I end up just reading the Free Press from the website where I can see the comments along with all of the other content that you also see using the app. No need to keep the app if I am going to use the website.

A great way to stay "tuned in". Being a former Michigander, I still follow the Detroit sports teams and the Free Press gives me the most up-to-date information on the local teams. I live in Las Vegas now, and the on-line version of the paper is my link to being back "home" in Michigan.

Over a great product!. Overall the Freep app is very solid. The overall subscriber content is very well done. I do not care for the left wing editorial articles. However I read the paper for the sports articles. They are well done. If the Freep would stay clear of their clear left leaning slant it would be even better. That said the writers make it worth reading.

Sports is not breaking news!. This app is easy to use and I’m grateful to have a local paper that I can subscribe to! Unfortunately the Detroit free press uses the heading “Breaking News” a little too leniently. It actually seems that they use it only to share sports news. Breaking news is not sports. Breaking news is active shooters in our area, or updates on US war relations with other countries or literally anything other than what’s happening between two teams. I’m afraid to turn off notifications for breaking news because what if something actually important happens locally or in the world? Because of this, I get basically 2-10 breaking news updates a day about the lions. Now, I care about the lions! I want to see them win! But I don’t need multiple breaking news updates about them. I think the free press is straying away from journalistic integrity by doing this and I would be forever grateful to the editor or person in control of app notifications if they could reign this in. Please, I beg you, use the breaking news headline for actual breaking news.

Easy to navigate. Top quality journalism; the app is easy to navigate and doesn’t have the annoying pop up videos you get on the website when viewed through your browser.

Constant screen refresh. Super annoying app. Read a text or email, go back to the app, it acts like you just loaded the app. Brings up splash screen, refresh’s content. You’ve got to search for your article and scroll back to where you were. Total pain. No other news app does this. Rookies. Until recently, Obits hadn’t worked in months!

Stop emailing me. Every time i try to unsubscribe from emails , i get error messages. Customer service doesn’t respond. You’ve subscribed me to updates from freep, gannet, USA Today network and maybe some others. I tried to support local journalism but now im getting bombarded with spam. To clarify, i am not trying to alter my subscription. I am trying to unsubscribe from all the email lists that my subscription apparently opted me in to. I have contacted the chat through the link provided and they say they cannot locate my email address and the phone center is closed.

Great Detroit Paper. The Detroit FreePress has always been the best resource to learn about what is happening in the Detroit area from sports to restaurants to local , state and national news . I especially like their great sports writers which makes it a must read for me. I have enjoyed reading it since I was a kid.

Good content, poor app functionality. Freep has great local content, but needs some upgrades to functionality. If I start reading an article, then get distracted for whatever reason, when I go back to the news feed or even article, it starts again at the top. None of the other news apps that I use do this. They keep the place where I was in the article. If I put my phone down just long enough for the screen to lock, it loses my place. Yesterday, I had to scroll through to find my place in the same, long, article, six times. Very disappointed and frustrated.

God Awful App.. I want to be able to search for an article by the article title and cannot do that. I want to be able to see the E addition and cannot do that and I am a subscriber. The icons make it sound like everything‘s hunky-dory but then when you try to use them — miserable search engine. I put in the exact title of the article and still the article from this morning’s print paper I had delivered to my doorstep this morning doesn’t show up. I try to just see the E-edition and I can’t do that.

Top Paper!. A great paper online! Support your local reporters as they do the difficult job of protecting our freedoms and our democratic form of government. The light of truth shines when there are lots reporters there informing the public as events unfold in real time. And this App works great! Much better than the glitchy clumsy Facebook app 👍

Great Way to Stay On Top. App works great. The Detroit Free Press is where I get all my local news. Great reporting. I'm probably one of the few that has both the app and has the paper delivered too. Sometimes it's just easier to see the whole paper by having it in your hands.

Freep over the years. Growing up in Detroit, the Free Press was part of our family through the 50s an 60s. Then marriage and the 70, 80 an 90s living in Plymouth part of our life, then a job change to Wisconsin and could only get it when we were at our camp on Lake Superior. Finally the Freep app, I’m now seventy and enjoying the Free Press everyday. Well Done!!!!

Great for keeping close to home. I love reading the Freep and getting breaking news alerts, often before others are informed. Wish you'd list sports teams by alpha or some other logical order -- makes it look like you're playing favorites.

Do not click photos — app will crash. The Freep does a great job presenting local news with this app. It’s very well formatted and news updates are independent of the publication of the printed paper. There is one annoying problem with the app. When you click on a photo to get a better look at something — the app crashes. Not occasionally either. Click a photo, any photo and it crashes every time. Fix it please.

Full screen video ads load as you scroll. The new ads that pop up to auto play video as you scroll are disruptive and terrible. It’s fine to show ads to pay for the app, but these are jarring and confusing when they take over your whole screen as you scroll through the headlines. This kind of innovation stinks and only serves to make me really dislike whatever you are advertising. Don’t load a full screen video of any kind, especially an ad, without me clicking on it to ask you to.

App is too sensitive in iOS 13. With the latest version of iOS, the app links are too sensitive when scrolling. If you accidentally touch a link while scrolling in an article it opens the link far too easily. Previous versions allowed for you you to only open a link if you deliberately pressed on the link. Now when there are articles with a large number of links, it is very difficult to read the entire article without getting unwittingly redirected.

Det. Free Press. They changed their on line app. I am a subscriber and used to be able to read 4 times as many articles as I can currently… this morning I have access to 15 articles?!?! It’s like only being able to read the Front page of the paper…. Won’t be subscribing again unless they return to their old format. Yes. I did let them know in case there is a glitch with my access.

Great mobile newspaper app!. I normally will not read newspapers on line, but the Free Press app is really easy to read and find what section you want. This is the best newspaper app that I have and I definitely will keep reading it! My complaint I'm now having is that the advice column is terrible - sometimes there aren't any new questions for days - my Oakland Press has new ones daily in Dear Abby....sigh! Line Dancing Grandma The advice columns aren't any better....they disappear for days - what happens?. I just changed the number of review stars to one...why, because again and again columns are disappearing, especially the advice columns!! I will close the app if this doesn’t clear up. This has gone on for days - I have been a Free Press reader for years and really like this app since we go to Florida. This app is getting worse and worse! Is there a reason why certain sections are not updated daily! I will no longer recommend this app to my snowbird friends from the Detroit area - please do not ask me to rate this app again unless you’ve fixed this problem! Now I can’t even read the regular sections! There’s a title, but when I click on it, there’s a blank screen with black photo squares. This is a horrible app and I’m going! to need to cancel it! This is happening again - HELP!

Almost great!. I love everything about this app....except for one strange issue. I can go to any sport and get up-to-date news with one exception. When I click on Lions it’s stuck on the news from Nov. 29th. Tate is saying the Lions have to win the rest to make the playoffs. I have deleted the app and reinstalled it, but it still sticks on Nov. 29th. How can this be fixed?

Free Press review. I truly enjoy the DFP and now that I’m retired, can leisurely read it from page 1 to the end. Especially look forward to Mitch Albom’s column—it’s not just the news, he gives brain stimulating insight into the stories he shares with his readers; truly a special hometown treasure. God bless and let’s all pray to whatever god we believe in, that he/she guides us out of this calamity that challenges all of us.

One of the outstanding newspapers in the U.S.. One of the outstanding newspapers in the U.S. with excellent journalism. It does, though tend to be more focused on the region rather than National or international. This shouldn’t be read as a complaint, but only as my observation.

Reloading Site. Any article read straight through is fine. But, if life intervenes and I stop reading in the middle of an article (a common occurrence on my phone app), the entire site reloads and I have to find the article again and scroll down to where I left off each time it happens. This is most likely good for some stat that gets reported to advertisers, but it’s a poor user experience. I feel strongly about supporting local journalism, but this frustration is making me rethink my support. Bring the app up to date (or provide some pointers if it’s user error). Thanks.

Love My Freep!. Love being able to read the Freep on my iPhone and iPad while still supporting legitimate journalism, particularly local news coverage. With so many newspapers folding nationally, local news is more important than ever! Please financially support your local and state newspapers.

Love the app, hate the update. Thoroughly enjoy using the app and having access to great content. However since the last update I’ve been experiencing an issue. If I’m in the middle of an article and my phone lock screen comes on (e.g. if I don’t touch the screen for a certain amount of time), when I swipe back in the article automatically returns to the beginning/top of the page. Very annoying for longer articles having to go back through and find my place. Please fix!

RIP OFF!. I signed up for 99 cents for the 6 month trial and got charged 10 bucks full price. I then canceled the subscription THREE TIMES through itunes which of where I got the link from the freep app and they just now charged me another 10 bucks. Do NOT DEAL WITH THESE CRIMINALS! It is a racket and then they say “no refunds” after they scam your money. They STOLE $70 from me because they kept charging me AFTER i canceled THREE TIMES! They are a straight up scam and I have no idea how they have almost five stars. Must be hired bots to give five star reviews. The Freep is the biggest rip off in the app store. They should be charged criminally.

No Ability To Adjust Article Refresh. Overall, I generally like the app. My only real complaint has to do with the article refresh rate. More accurately, the ability to change it. If you stop reading an article for more than 10 minutes, the app automatically takes you back to a refreshed list of articles. Quite maddening. There is no setting to change this.

Good when it works. The app itself is fine, it’s the subscription aspect that is the problem. Even though I’m signed in, I can’t always read the for subscribers only articles. I’ll sign out and sign back in but still no access. Also they make it very difficult to cancel the subscription. Update: I uninstalled the app several times on my iPad. Now I’m only able to get about the first ten articles, it won’t scroll any farther down.

A Daily Joy. As a native (and now displaced) Detroiter, I open every day with my reading of the Free Press. Solid, succinct and objective reporting, thoughtful opinion pieces, and a daily (and often painful) dose of Lions, Pistons and Tigers news all bring me back home for a few minutes. Grateful for the opportunity!

Great Way to Keep Up on the News!. The app is easy to configure with the topics you want to know about. It sends instant notifications when a new story is uploaded so You can always have the latest news at your fingertips.

Poor customer service. I had to call three times before someone told me the print edition was no longer available. Now I can’t print the puzzles. The developer are working on it but they don’t know when it will be fixed. Also customer service changed my password but didn’t tell me what it was. I really miss the newspaper. It smelled good. I could spread it out. I could clip things out of it.

Still a very good parapet. I lived in Michigan for 28 years. I read the Freep for all of them. Went through the sale to GANNET. Went through the cutbacks in staff. Went through the ditgatal changes. And then moved to Chicago to be near my kids. Still check out the Freep to see what’s happening in DETROIT and the local teams. The paper still does a good job covering metro Detroit and the state. Still does a good job with sports. Keep it up.

Pictures out of sync with copy!!!. I don't know if it is a mindless auto fill problem but it seems that when I click on specific article it first shows a completely unrelated photo to the copy. Check todays story about Lions QB buying a house in Georgia. The first thing you see is a photo of a Red Wings hockey player completely unrelated to the story I want. And this happened thought the app. Someone is not vetting layout! It needs to be fixed. M. Beltaire

I Love "The Freep!". Have lived out of state for 25-years but I REALLY miss my Michigan. The Freep keeps me in touch with what is happening in the Mit and with my sports teams. Still love reading Mitch Albom's article and glad he stayed with Detroit despite his fame. Keep up the good work and thank you for keeping me part of the D!

Ads Ads Ads. I subscribe to the Free Press. For some reason I get a plea to subscribe to the Freep app every day. Very annoying. Also, there are so many ads loading on EVERY page that I lose my place in articles as I read. The same thing happens as I’m browsing for an article to read. The Free Press is a good paper. Why ruin the experience with a cruddly app that makes me want to just delete my subscription.

Not a good app. I enjoy reading the Freep but this app is frustrating. It displays the newest top stories fine but as you scroll down I will often find the same stories showing up 2 or 3 times in the feed. They should also have a way to stop showing old or out of date stories. For example, today is the weekend after the Super Bowl and when I scroll down a dozen of so stories I come across stories that are previewing the game. Unfortunately that just confirms in my mind how little fresh content the Freep actually publishes.

Pay wall. I understand the news paper is Dead nobody buys the newspaper anymore . You really wanna buy a paper and listen to ex employee Stephen Henderson rant about white ppl or Rochelle Riley talk about how the white man is evil 72% of subscribers were white . How did that turn out? Now you can pick and choose thousands of new articles at your fingertips you really think putting a pay wall up on certain articles will help? I’m sure it helped a little but when you have articles about the 4 and 10 lions being behind a pay wall your not doing yourself any favors myself and thousands of other ppl will simply click on Barstool website it’s that easy.

Thumbs up on the app! I wish the rest of the process was just as smooth. I like the app it’s nice not having to constantly login. The only thing inconvenient was trying to set up my account for my subscription. I think you loose would be subscribers because it’s so difficult trying to pay and set up the account. I’m no expert but I question why you’d make it so difficult for people to pay you money.

I am paying for a subscription!. The incredible amount of ads for this app makes it difficult to read. I am paying for this and shouldn’t have ads!

Freep app. I want and pay $9.99/month to get the enewspaper. I know it isn’t the most up to the hour news, but has other news in it I enjoy. About 7-10 days ago something changed in the way I get the e newspaper now having to go thru the app to get it. It has made my use of the e newspaper less user friendly. Pulling up older editions also more cluncky. Not sure if I can download the addition and then read it later in an area with no Wi-Fi. This I was previously able to do. I also get the USA Today and recently get a pop up cover the e edition asking me to go to the USA app as a different way to get the e edition. I always X that out as I would say my experience with the Detroit Free press app to get the addition has not been satisfying for me.

Amateur software. Even after multiple signing out, and signing ends, this app refuses to recognize me as a subscriber, and locked me out of articles that are designated for subscribers only. Hire someone who can fix this because three attempts with your customer service people on three different days and failed to fix this.

Doesn’t work with screen reader. I’m visually impaired and rely on my iPad’s three different screen reading options to read articles. When using the built-in iPadOS screen reader, this app switches to the next article and begins reading it instead. When using the text-highlighting method, I’m unable to select certain paragraphs or more than one at a time, and when using VoiceOver I can’t properly scroll and reading will stop unexpectedly several times during one article. It’s better to use the “reader view” in a web browser than this app for anyone with low vision.

App still needs work since iOS 14. Love using the app. It hasn’t worked since I started with iOS 14 Beta 6. Now that the official realease is out, a new update came. Now it partially works. However, as soon as I dig deeper into a story, or try to go somewhere else it crashes. Hopefully another update is in the works.

Once great, now unreadable. I used to love to get all-day updated information in an easily readable format. Now pages flicker and roll, ads dominate (and I pay for this!), “NEWS” is only 10 items half of which are sports, the list goes on. I read the online print edition every morning but when I wanted more during the day this was my go-to but not anymore. When traveling out of the country, the on-line print edition could not be accessed, so I tried to depend on this app but it is so lacking. Please bring back the old.

Works, but ad content is annoying. I pay for the Freep, and I understand that journalism needs ways to generate money in anyway they can, but having fake articles mixed in with the real ones is a constant annoyance. I can deal with the ads throughout the articles, but the fake articles are spammy and make enjoying the actual news difficult.

Important local content. I never miss an issue even though there is not as much in the life and entertainment sections right now because of the pandemic still I enjoy what’s there and I enjoy the national and international coverage.

Poor web interface for a great paper. News is worth the web site performance is poor. Not easy to use on other devices you may own. Help is confusing I dropped when could not use on another device. Don’t like auto payment that allows automatically renewed subscription.

Was Very Useful - now does not provide subscribers access. I use this app daily. However, it will no longer allow subscribers to the digital Freep access to subscribed content. It appears to only accept an iTunes purchase to gain access. I still have access via Safari. Considering just uninstalling app and only using the browser version.

Keeps Me Connected to Detroit, From Abroad. I like this app, a lot. It keeps me connected to my roots. I live in Toronto, and with this app, I can stay up to date with my fellow Michiganders.

Weak at best. Same old dumbed down media coverage. Give me one person on your staff that actually has an original opinion and I’ll start listening. Right now your a sports only site that is weak at best. Where the hell is Mike Valente??? Where’s that kind of voice that is willing to step out and go against the grain??? You don’t have one!! You’re all trolls going along with main stream media to keep feeding the weak minded. Thank god I can still read local sports.

Freep. Great app!

Sports. Love it for Red wings updates

Freep app.. Great app to work with. Simple to use, and the webpages are laid out nicely.

Great!. I find it very informative. I like to keep up on what is happening all over the world & this paper is just as good as the other papers in the U.S. There's also info on the "Auto Makers" & I like to keep informed on that.

Detroit Free Press - empresses. Nice app flips into Nightmode automatically. Allows quick&easy change in FONT size in the app.

Nice layout, easy to navigate.. The way the Freep laid this out is eye-friendly and relevant. My favorite news app at the moment.

Great Information. I wake up every day looking forward to reading the Free Press online. If it cost me I would gladly pay for it. Thank you for doing a good job.

First for news that matters to Detroit. Best local news, best state news, best sports pages.

Horrible. Tricked into downloading this app as it was advertised as the official app for the Detroit Marathon to track runners. You can't even track runners with it and it only loads half the screen. Deleting immediately, don't waste your time!

Love this. I have been a reader for years and a newer subscription holder. Keep up the great work!

President. Great

Great paper app. This is a great app to keep up with what is happening in Detroit and Michigan. Being a Detroit sports fan it is a must have for me!!!

The Detroit Free Press. The Free Press is a fabulous source of news and sports. Love it !!

Great Paper. Best money spent on the digital subscription !

Great source of news and sports!. Great!

Detroit free press. Since the App was update about a month ago, it is constantly updating & constantly taking me to a different page. I have been a scriber to the D F P for over 50 years and started reading it on line when my kids gave me an iPad 5 years ago for my 80th birthday. Up until about a month ago I could read the D F P where there was not a WIFI connection. Now if I try to read it without out a WIFI connection it locks up after about 2 or 3 minutes. I tried changing to the Airplane mode but it still tries to update an I am unable to read it after a few minutes. Any suggestions ? Tom Hacker Sr.

👉 Are you looking for an Adsense alternative advertising platform?

Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!

My Go To for the Local News. I have the app on my phone for convenient up to date news. I check it frequently during the day.

Works Well. I use several news apps and this one works as well as the others. I'm a Michigander transplanted to California, so I enjoy getting news from home, especially sports. Go Blue!

News review. I read the newspaper daily but off and on throughout the day. When I opened the app it would start where I left off. Now it starts on the front page every time. Very annoying. Your app now opens to a full screen ad which we have to clear every time. Disappointed that your app got worse.

Needs a redesign!. This app is extraordinarily frustrating to use. Every time one toggles to another app, and then returns to the Freep app at any time in the future, the app returns to the home page, forcing the reader to hunt for the article he/she was reading. Poorly thought out design and user experience. Learn from those news apps who do it correctly!

News. The Free Press has always been my favorite when I was growing up. It still is my favorite by far. Love the news Thank you much

Free Press Coverage. I depend on the Freep for local, national & global news. Covers local news especially well as they should. It’s been my paper for at 30 years. I haven’t missed a year of it yet.

App needs some work. The paper is great but your app needs some work. Getting my subscription right has been a pain. Thank you

Expat enjoying the Freep. I left my SW Detroit home for the Philly Area in 1974. I miss all of Detroit and revel in the good news and frown when you I read the bad news. My go to source? The on line Free Press. What a great background and full of excellent storylines. Example: the recent Delray story. Tremendous!

Love the Freep. Best Detroit paper. Great writers. Has been for decades, since the days of George Puscas, Bob Talbert, Joe Falls, Jack Saylor, Jerry Green, Jim Fitzgerald, Mike Downey and on and on, and continuing to the present era with perhaps the best of them all, Mitch Albom. I delivered the Freep in the 1960s and have loved it ever since.

Great information from Michigan. Always important news well written and to the point!

Love my local paper, not a fan of app. I get a digital subscription of the paper delivered daily. Big fan. However I constantly struggle to find the stories I read in the daily paper within the application so that I can share the articles. Bummer.

I read every day. I am a paid digital subscriber.. We cannot get delivery anymore where we live. I have read the freep many years.

Great Newspaper. Staying on top with the latest news from around the world. Alerts to keep you informed of the latest news worldwide.

Less ads. I’m not sure what I did but now there are no big ads that take up half my screen. Besides that, The FP is a decent local paper that gives me info on the tri-county area and beyond. We be the hard copy on Sunday, too.

Please, for the love of God, employ a decent proofreader. Just read a headline “Three man charged in sexual assault cases”. You can pretty much count on Every. Single. Story. to have some type of spelling or grammatical error. It’s so unprofessional and demoralizing. Two stars because I have to get local news somewhere. I’m still mad that you guys called Michigan for Hilary too soon.

Small Change - NOW TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Used to be my go to news app. Recently they changed it so it prompts “Forgetting something?” To promote a subscription, then flashes to a full page subscription ad. I get they want subscribers, but you won’t get them by chasing away prospective ones. I switched to local coverage in a broader news app and now get better coverage with no ads. Bye bye Freep!

disappointing. Thought I would have access to full paper including puzzles and comics. I do not like apparent selection of articles and editorials for me. Why don’t we have full access to the print edition?

Mornings wouldn’t be the same without my Free Press!. My morning is not complete until I read my online Detroit Free Press! I would never sift through an actual newspaper, just not a reality any longer. Thank you for it!

Excellent site with one overriding flaw. NO OTHER NEWS APP HAS THIS FLAW which I have reported several times with no response Excellent content and easy to use but one flaw found only in one other news app (Detroit News app) makes using this app frustrating to the point of avoiding it. 1)If I am reading a article 2)Want to get additional information on a place, name, event, statistic, etc. 3) Goto another source anywhere else on the internet such as Wikipedia, Google maps, etc. 4) I am returned to the “Top Stories” page instead of the article I was reading I normal use an iPad Pro running the most iPadOS 15.1 but this flaw has been present for at least 3 months through several system upgrades

Free Press. I enjoy the Detroit Free Press every morning. It is nice to discuss the daily happenings around the world and even more so around Michigan. I really miss the feel of real paper but no one delivers any more and my local DD stopped selling.

The news. Always up to date and available such a great app I highly recommend it!

Freep. Love this newspaper for is sports coverage. I realize the lions have stunk for a long time, However let’s try to be positive more often it probably helps the players on the field.

What I do not like. It is good but I miss the political cartoon and the comics and letters to the editor. The arrangement is a bit difficult but the more I use it the easier it becomes.

Missed the paper. I can’t believe how much i missed reading the paper and now i can whenever I want. The format is super easy.

App refreshes to top too often. While scrolling through and reading stories, the screen refreshes to often and the screen jumps around too much. Let the reader refresh by pulling down on screen, vs automatically refreshing.

Always loved the Freep. Even when I was at school on the other side of the state I would try to grab a copy on my way to class (they had them free on campus along with USA Today)

Notifications don’t work. The app is good except that the setting for notifications doesn’t work. I have, for example, notifications turned off for Sports stories but they still come through; sometimes more than a dozen in a day buzzing my phone.

Amazing Reporting and So much Variety. I never paid for a newspaper in my life but after waking up every morning to news and insight from the Free Press for years I now am a paying subscriber to keep the press Free.

Slowly Moving to Subscription-based. The app is great and Freep has always done a good job but they are clearly moving to a subscription-based pay model. I wish they would get advertising revenue under control to keep from this happening. It’s a shame...

Easy to read. Like the app it is easy to read and always up to date

Free Press great Coverage. I’m a Spartan out of state. I subscribed to the Free Press to get their great Spartan coverage. I have not been disappointed, although they are disappointing this year! Basketball will be another story.

Awful app!. Much news available, app is terrible. Will go with the Detroit News Not worth paying for!

Automotive Necessity. If you work in the auto industry anywhere in the country you need this app. During the strike the pandemic and now the chip shortage the Freep is invaluable. It’s the definitive source for automotive news.

Enjoying my local rag!. Moved to the Detroit area last year and am really enjoying getting the local news, regularly on the app, and in my Sunday paper!

Great news about my teams. Since I don’t live in Michigan it’s great to read up on my teams and other Michigan news

Is this a sports app? What happened to the news?. Wayyyyyy too many sports stories. Literally maybe 4/5 articles are sports related. I want news. Not sports entertainment. And I had to turn off notifications because during any playoffs season, I was getting notifications before each game started, at least 1 during the game, and another after. Why???! I DIDNT DOWNLOAD THIS FOR SPORTS NEWS!! deleted.

No better paper. I’ve been reading the Detroit Free Press for 50years. They continue to bring Michigan and world news with integrity and honesty. Thank you for your continuous excellence.

Makes Detroit Come Alive. A great connection to local news, art, theatre, restaurants and other entertainment . Always Interesting, we’ll written, timely. Great commentary too.

Overall worth it. The content is very good. Once you get past payment and password glitches, good app.

Screaming Liberal newspaper but app works well. Aside from being a screaming liberal newspaper with serious slanted bias to the left, the app works well. Good sports coverage. Lots and lots and lots of ads though to go with the libtard political left articles.

Leave the app briefly, starts you back at the home page…. When using the app, if you leave it, even briefly, it returns to the home page instead of keeping you at the article you are reading. Not great in that aspect.

Limited customization. App provides very limited ability to select what content to include in “your” paper. Even then it’s not accurate. Why can’t I customize content by checking sections? Seems simple, yes? Placing ads in the middle of the screen that resemble articles is deceiving and irritating.

Makes living away from home...easier. Living in SC, the app makes me feel like I'm home when I read it everyday.... easy to navigate, appealing to the eye and informative.

Unhappy. I love reading a newspaper online the way the paper looks in print. I was disappointed in this app as I was expecting it to look like the actual paper (like the website shows it for the epaper link). While this app is user friendly, it wasn't what I expected. 😞😞😞

Great News Source. I’ve been using the Freep app for a couple of years. I can easily access the necessary news I need quickly. Easy to navigate.

Was great, now it’s not. I used to get about 30 articles in “Top Stories “ and Sports. Now when it opens, it flickers and I only get 5. I deleted and reinstalled. Same. Shut off my iPad and rebooted. Same. I have tried calling support for subscription issues in the past on my Detroit News app… that was a useless venture… so is sending an email. NO RESPONSE to my pleas. I’m paying for a subscription. This needs to change ASAP.

Love the Free Press. And always have. A little liberal for my taste but good paper just the same. Articles could be refreshed quicker. It gets tiring to read the same thing all week long. They always have had the best reporters. Keep up the good work.

App Stopped Working. I used to really appreciate being able to read the local news on the Freep App, but the app has stopped responding on the last few weeks. Once in the app, you are unable to click on more than one article to read. Soooo frustrating. I did contact customer service but have yet to receive a reply. I am loath to delete the app, but it is useless at the moment.

Love this app. The Freep is my go-to app for the latest news in Michigan, nation and world news. I especially enjoy reading Mitch Albom's articles and the latest on College and pro sports.

Used to love it....now won’t pay for it. Used to be my go-to app for news especially all about Detroit. Now, I can’t even read a few articles without asking for a subscription that I pay for and am billed. Restoring purchases option does not fix it. Fix your APP!!!
