Fantastic. I own a fancy Garmin GPS and hike a lot in Colorado. I decided to investigate iPhone-based GPS systems and after some investigation bought two: Terra Map (free and I subsequently upgraded to Pro for $5) and Gaia ($20). So far, I prefer Terra Map for two main reasons. First, their maps are really good. They have combined "layers" for you in a thoughtful manner. The maps are clear and show trails in my area. No single layer in Gaia achieves this and mixing layers is a hassle (and for full offline mixing in Gaia, I think you need the pro version which has a monthly fee). Second, downloading maps for offline usage is a snap in Terra Map. In Gaia, each download is a custom job. Yes, the Terra Map downloads take up about 50MB each, but that is not a big deal with a modern phone. The Terra Map downloads cover pre-defined areas and the areas are large. The downloads contain the beautiful maps fully available for offline usage. With the Pro version, you can download an unlimited number of areas. The interfaces in Terra Maps and Gaia are both good. I suspect Gaia has a few more features, but the clarity of the maps in Terra Maps wins the day. And you can't beat the price. Also, who needs a dedicated GPS device when the iPhone-based devices are so good.

Artifacts. Edit: The developer helped me with this, so I’m raising my rating. Original Rating: “I notice that the maps leave artifacts from the relief when looking at the topo. It’s very annoying.” From the developer message: Hello, we have to keep a limited number of height samples to keep memory occupation acceptable and our library works with a tessellation of images of 256x256 pixels so when the system is zoomed the shading can appear unrealistic. You can switch off the shading using the menu Settings —> Shading We already switch off it automatically at the given some level, we can anticipate the switch off in future releases.

Good Offline Trail App. Just downloaded and did my first hike. Surprisingly good maps with topo, trail details, features for recording your exercise etc. Offline map access is super helpful. Happy that you can access this in the free version although when the limits kick in I’m happy to pay for the premium of $18 for life (I think) a much better value than $30/year with AllTrails.

My favorite app. Works perfectly on iPhone. I use this app almost every day.

Excellent maps, easy to use. Good introductory tutorials in both the app and website. Maps are large, but are well detailed; and the download speed is good. Also, maps management is well designed. Possible improvements: Route planning can be improved to take existing trails/tracks into account. Distance calculation is a straight line one; would me more useful if it can follow a path or can have multiple segments.

Gotta love offline maps!. This is a nice program as long as you download the maps you need before you are offline. I would give it 5 stars except for the intermittent problem that I am having with it marking my track. Yesterday I thrashed through brush for three hours uphill to mark a fence line, when I got to the top the track hadn't registered even tho the little icon was still flashing as active. Grrrrr!

Lack of essential func of input GeoCoord. After downloaded maps, I tried to search two famous hiking destination but cannot find them. Ok, then I found GeoCoords of them then want to see them in this app, but surprisedly Nowhere you can input them!

What happened to the satellite feature?! - Fixed :). Update: After closing and restarting the app a few times, the satellite slider began to function properly. This app is great, btw, and I appreciate the response to my first post. Original: Just downloaded the latest update/release and now I can’t view satellite images despite updating the particular maps I’m interested in. Is there a bug that needs to be fixed?

My pro account does not work on the app needed for new iPhones.. I purchased the full app years ago. Early supporter. Now, I’m asked to pay again? Please fix this so I can give you a 5 star. I live in Portland and the tiles to for Portland will not download and that is where I need to go today. That the heck is going on with this new app? The app will delete your saved downloads if you have not used the app in a little bit. So if had downloaded the entire state. But the app updated well when you get out there into the woods you will be screwed.

O we of my two best nav apps. I use this app for general navigation when hiking, biking or driving off-road. The other app I use is GAIA. GAIA has a lot of layers to choose from, and many more choices for waypoint icons, but this app works best for ease of navigation because it shows all the street and road names, names of terrain features and state/district bike trails. The process for updating tiles is faster and easier than GAIA.

Brilliant downloadable maps. Great app, easy to use and really useful when out if mobile range.

Disappointed. It worked really well when first installed, so well that I bought the extra maps and features. Then something happened - ios or software update, I don't know, but now the maps take forever to load and the default opening map is 0000:0000 instead of my last position. I tried reinstalling, reloading etc and it is still painfully slow. It was really good, now it's next to useless.

Extra useful. Best trekking app I have found. Even better than my regular handheld Garmin, but it is a very old one

Can't download satellite imagery for when offline. Cant save satellite imagery of areas for offline use. So wasn't worth it for me

Excellent navigation. Cannot count the amount of times this app has helped me get out of a jam. Very intelligently constructed, practical and efficient.

Buggy. Can’t get past map download. Downloads 44.7mb for tile then the counter starts going backwards! 44.5, 44.4, 44.6. Tried it 10 times, never ends. Uninstalling

Cannot restore a purchase. I used this map for a couple of years and paid for the pro version. After updating to the latest version I’m downgraded to basic version and cannot restore my purchase.

Steve. Absolutely first class mapping app, with care and attention to detail that continues to impress the more you use it. Brilliant development, and in my opinion best of the genre, and a great pleasure to use. Take a bow Terra Map team.

Hmmm. Downloaded the maps and now the mapped areas are plain white.

Good app. Just used it for the first time for a hike. Great knowing where we were and helped on a few times when we lost ourselves.

Walking. This is great for tracking how far I have walked. It works without service. It is a gos where I am and helps me to find my way back from a walk when in unfamiliar surroundings.

Simply the best. Better than all the rest.

Useless. Says maps of Australia.. free. But ALL of the tiles are locked. False advertising!

Not bad but... The app filled in Botany Bay New South Wales. According to the app is not a Bay but land.

Best maps app yet. I have used plenty of other mapping software but this is by far the easiest to use with fastest download of high quality maps. Awesome

A Five Star App. I've tried several other mapping apps but Terra Map leaves them for dead. Most others are way out on distances, but Terra Map is very accurate. So glad I found you Terra Map.

Map may not be accurate. Map may not be accurate when you choose colourful option. The water tower that wasn’t there magically appeared. Just funny and annoying at the same time because I paid for an app or map that isn’t reliable. The map update also fell short of my expectation. Edit: I was informed that for Canada maps, it uses Canvec and not OSM. Maps are out of date.
