Needs some attention. Please fix it.. Several years ago this was the best. Now it does not stack up. It has not improved in 3 years. My biggest complaint is that I cannot use it on the intracoastal waterway on a leg of more than 20 miles. That makes it useless as a planning tool. It constantly throws a “too many points” error message on a leg of any length. I have a slow sailboat, but I still can make 40-60 miles in a day. This needs to be fixed or I will not renew. I received a relatively lame response and was send to a web address to learn than a route is limited to 200 points. I was told to break my day into multiple legs. That is not “dock to dock routing.” That is a pill. If you have ever seen their routes you can see that a route should be 2000 points, not 200. This should not be a difficult change for Navionics.

Distracting and unsafe. The inability to lock the map view in the course up or heads up mode is absolutely unacceptable and dangerous. Every time you pan or zoom the map, the map view resets. In order to get a desired map view back, you need to touch a very small icon twice while on a fast moving vessel. This app behavior is extremely distracting, frustrating and unsafe! Furthermore, the map doesn't pan automatically as the vessel moves; you have to pan it manually, which results in the map view being reset repeatedly. I recommend the folks designing this app to try to actually use it on a fast moving vessel as that would help them understand how dysfunctional this app actually is.

Saved my life. I had the free app and went out ice fishing on lake Ontario and it was blowing a steady 30. I knew a storm was coming but the fish were biting and i had walked over 3 miles to the spot so i ended up staying way to long. By the time i was packed up there was 3 inches of snow and a total whiteout. i had very little cell service like most places on the lake and started walking the direction i knew was land. After 20-30 minutes i checked google maps to see if it had me almost at shore and it said i had actually over shot the point i went from and was on the east side of it. It was only maybe 1/3 mile away but well after what felt like closer to a mile i checked google maps again to see where i was and it said i was over a mile from land. I then remembered navionics and when i used it it showed me about half a mile from what google maps said. I decided to trust this and follow the arrow all the way back for about a mile and see what google maps says. After almost a mile following the navionics i started to see dock lights and was relieved. I checked google maps twice walking back and both times it had me over half a mile from my real location. I was out there walking for to two to two half hours between taking breaks and checking for service and i was getting exhausted. This app really did save me that night got to single digits and was gusting to 40 plus. Ill probably buy it every year until they stop updating the maps.

Sacramento Delta Fail!!. I have tried for a few of years now to get the routing feature to work on this boating app and an earlier navionics app including emails to tech support and I can say that it has been a big waste of time. The routing feature can load for 45 minutes on a route that is just over 30 miles only to finish with a “too many way points“ message when no way points have been selected. Maybe this app works better on a wide-open body of water with simple routes but here in the Sacramento Delta it is an abject failure. Complete and total failure. Please let people know that your app just does not work for short trips with multiple choices for routes. Period. Otherwise you are wasting people’s valuable time regardless of how cheap the app is. I would love to see an app with 5% of the efficacy of google Maps for the roadways. Is there one?? Anybody?? This app and possibly others just will not route a trip for you. Please don’t waste your time like I have!

Offset. Love this app. I did the entire great-loop using my iPad as primary navigation with this app. One comment… when using “course up” or whatever orientation as my preference, there should be an option for the vessel to be offset 2/3 so that the charted area ahead of me dominates the display. I think the only option now is to be centered. But I just don’t care about seeing all the chart area behind me. 2/3 offset should be a display option. Thank you!

Worth 10 stars before update now 1. Before navionics updated their app just recently, i sold so many other boaters and anglers into joining up and purchasing the app because it was my must have every time i planned to boat somewhere especially any new places!! Now not so much.. the sonar overlay depths are now WAY off, showing holes and depths that are definitely not correct, and i mean showing it to be 50 ft in places where its only 3ft!!! And prior the update i trusted this app to still boat even when my depth Finder had broken one time!! This can be extremely dangerous for anyone trusting the app like i once had especially if in a larger vessel, someone could seriously damage Their boat or even worse hurt their selves bad. I truly hope that Garmin corrects this very bad mistake soon because if not, I will not be renewing my subscription and I’m sure many many others will feel the exact same way. Once this has been fixed, I will happily change my review back to five stars because like I said, at one point I felt this app was worth 10 stars at five, but not now. Hopefully they can go back to the old map or fix it before someone gets hurt, bad or worse.

Not a one time pay app like they said.. I have been using this app for about three years now. I bought it when it was offered at a one time buy. But for the past week, my maps and all the depth contours that were once included have no longer worked. My pins are still available but the lakes will no longer load when I zoom. The basic outline is there but only in straight lines. Very disappointing. I’ve emailed the support team. I’m hoping this is just a glitch and not something I have to pay again and again for like the app is asking me to do. If so I’m going a different route.

Need More Way Points. Hi Navionics Team. I have thoroughly relied on and love you app over the last 2+ years while living aboard a sailboat and actively cruising the US East coast. The only reason for my one deducted star is that I need more way points! Any time we have a voyage that takes us up or down the ICW rather than outside, I can’t look at the whole trip. I have to break it into portions of the trip. While this is a minor inconvenience it is one that only I have aboard this vessel because I’m the only one using Apple’s version of the Navionics App. Please, please, please, add more waypoints to the iOS app.

Missing basic functionality. OK, I acknowledge that at $15 it is cheaper to buy this than a single chart, so there is some value in being able to download, plot a course on, and see a visual representation of my live position versus that plot while en route. I just can’t believe there’s no active guidance to actually sail that course like the most basic handheld provides. Tell me how far to my next turn, what heading I’ll have to steer and for how long, how far I might be from the plotted course. Give me a way to confirm position with bearings to charted objects. None of this seems available even though it has access to my position thru my device’s active GPS. This seems like a total waste for anything beyond basic route planning

Auto-route is best feature—but keeps getting worse!. N avionics has always done a mediocre job with data visualization. Their colors and fonts are very dated, and it always feels like you are using a 2000 version of Mapquest, or a commercial ECDIS. It was never /bad/ just always sort of clunky and visually boring compared to a modern map or chart program. I have remained loyal to Navionics for one reason—their auto-route feature; sometimes they call it “Dock-to-Dock”. It has been an awesome planning tool for my wife and I as we travel up and down the ICW, around the Chesapeake, and through New England. Until the latest version. They have now eliminated the ability to change the active waypoint. It seems inconsequential, but it has a massive impact. Developers: give us back our numbered vertices! (and hire a graphics artist while you are at it!)

Love it. Important update info. The new changes to the auto-route function caused problems to me. It is no longer able to calculate some simple routes if they are long, and adds turns/indirect courses even when a direct line is shorter (and free of hazards). I asked them to please bring back the old auto-routing algorithms! They replied with the following helpful advice: “ Please try to download and update the charts going in Menu>>Download Maps. Try again to calculate the Route. Please check also if crossing the bridges on the base of the height in your Boat Settings. For long distances, we suggest to add an intermediate waypoint.” The last piece of adding an additional waypoint worked well for me. Solved my problem. (Thanks) This is a full featured and very capable program that is among the best. (Edited to add additional info)

Trying to do way too much. This app has gone from pretty good to rotten. It’s become overly complex and difficult to use for simple safe navigation. I love the active Captain integration and it’s the only thing keeping me as a customer for now. The charts are solid and I like the sonar depths. However there are lots of other sources for this data. The recent changes exacerbated an already undue amount of complexity. I’ll be looking for an alternative when my sub runs out. For context, we live aboard and have done 8000 sailing miles in the last 24 months. We also use Navionics in our B&G gear where this user experience doesn’t exist. Terrible terrible terrible.

Latest Update. I was looking forward to the newest update but once I started planning routes, I’m now pretty disappointed in some of the new features. Sometimes my route looks great, other times it just shows me a straight solid line that goes through land. The newly added “hazards” along my route shows me absolutely nothing. On Aquamaps if I click on “hazards” it actually shows me where every hazard is along my route and gives me in depth detail on each hazard. Not sure that it’s useful being told that there are 13 hazards and nothing more. I will probably end up using my husbands phone as I did not update the latest version on his phone.

What Happened?. I have used this app for several years and it has been stable and easy to use. This new version has added all kinds of automatic features that make the experience repetitive and just plain bad. Why does the map zoom out when I select an item? I have to zoom back in to see the detail again. What happened to the route creation where you would add points as you go and see your fuel consumption? Now it automatically adds a final point and you have to move it out of the way when creating waypoints and there is no fuel usage information. I paid for 2 subscriptions and after the third crash neither are loading so all I get is a blank chart and pop-ups asking for more money. This app doesn’t even deserve 1 star. I feel robbed!

I have used this Ap for years, but almost useless now. Really disappointing. I use this on an iPhone 13 max. Went from great to crap in the last couple of seasons. Do not think developers have ever been on a boat, and certainly never fished. Too many things to complain about, but the main reason I will dump this is because the NavUp/CourseUp/NorthUp is so screwed up that it is right about 1 times in 8, but as soon as you zoom or recenter you get to start the whole process over and there is guarantee that you get it right no matter how many times you cycle It is maddening and basically useless if you are trying to move to a specific destination. Does not happen on my chart reader (which has the same synced data) SK I know it is a bug in the newer versions of the Ap (last 2 seasons). Other grips are the subscription system which are terrible. I have an active subscription, but every time I look at anything it wants me to buy another subscription. Just a very frustrating Ap from start to finish. And I loved it for years!!

Would be perfect is orientation fixed. Honestly, this is a near perfect app! With one fix, it would be invaluable for safe boating! My family and I deeply appreciate the way it shows water depth accurately with many ways to personalize the system (examples: preferred units of measure and color coding). It has impressive features, including a way to have it adjust for when the water level is down any number of feet. There is only one problem: the default orientation is “North Up.” It causes major frustration and increases potential danger as it requires boat drivers to spend extra time staring at the app. We’ve tried unsuccessfully to set it for “Heads Up” orientation (so it matches the left/right of the boat’s reality). In Settings, we select “Heads Up” display, but it quickly returns to “North Up.” It’s a serious frustration and big disappointment. They should fix it to lock in the display orientation we select and/or change the default to the user-friendly “Heads Up.” Please!

Ok, it’s just okay. Third year of using the App, it’s great for at a glance planning. Maybe some weather and a little helpful on routing. Just updated to the latest because the location specific apps are being sun-setted. The charts are ok, sometimes better than others sometimes worse. Have anchored on land according to charts in the southern San Blas at times for example. The biggest problem that hasn’t been addressed in the last 3 years is the initial chart down load. You pay for a region or chart then are forced to down load in pieces or squares. That works fine on fast connections. As a world traveler, a download all button even if it downloaded the same pieces would save hours and hours pinching and “requesting download” of pieces of the region. After every piece you have to re-zoom and go find the boundaries of what has already been downloaded. Downloading the pacific charts is going to take a few days of perseverance at the local watering hole. Ugh. It’s fine to have the selective download, but ALSO include a “gimme what I paid for” (ALL) option as well. That will run without having to have the app open and babysat the entire time. For comparison I use C-Map, Garmin and all kinds of public charts in OpenCpn and my “eyes” as most electronic charts are off at one time or another. 15,000 miles from Atlantic, Caribbean, to southern Chile, Pacific is next.

Love this app. Reading some of the other reviews, looks like the poor ratings correlate to user error. This app is awesome. At $9.99 a year, it does everything an over priced lowrance or humminbird would do, except with this I get over the air updates and don’t have to mess with fumbling around with memory cards. I’ve always found it extremely easy to use, I love being able to download maps offline, and it’s eerily accurate. That said, with a 5 star rating, I have some quick constructive input to offer the devs: 1. Make it easier / quicker to drop a pin on the map. A quick button on the main map screen would be great 2. Would like to see the new “fishing ranges” feature go all the way down to 0’ instead of 4’ for the minimum 3. Wish there was a way to text a route to others who use the app, instead of e-mailing. Minor stuff, but would put it over the top! Great job to Navionics and everyone involved on this app.

5 years, 34,000 nautical miles. We have used Navionics for 6 round trips on the ICW. We have used Navionics in Canada and the Bahamas. The charts are excellent and the Sonar Charts offer more detail and better accuracy than NOAA or Canadian Hydrographic Service! autoroute has many uses. The tide and current displays are much easier to use than in any other app we have used. All this is device resident, so you only need internet access to update you charts. This can be done easily and quickly over a cell phone connection. This app also will connect over the internet to the sea buoys for real time wind and wave conditions. No other navigation app has near the functionality and power as this one.

.. So first and foremost, this app is my go to for planning our fishing trips as well as locating possible new spots. This has been so accurate with the newest iPhone’s gps that we used it as a primary when the sportfish we were on lost all electronics. We came home with a boat load of fish! But the most recent update is TERRIBLE and reduced the quality to crap for relief shading. Used to see the bottom just fine and seemed worth paying for. When my subscription is up I’m going to another charting system unless they bring it back. There’s areas that were not high detailed and it made up for that with the areas that were. Now no areas are detailed other than ones that you can literally zoom in on google earth and see. And actually see better than what this app is giving you. I’ve used y’all for 5 years+. Please don’t dump on the long term guys by making the shading terrible. If Garmin forced your department to decrease the visibility on the bottom put that in the update notes so people at least have a choice going forward. There isn’t a single noticeable difference in the “new and better” shading style. I don’t know if they see it as competition and want all people to move to the chart plotter cards but it’s terrible now. If you haven’t updated your app yet and see this don’t update! Please bring back the old shading I will put y’all at five stars.

Amazing software. I can’t believe all the negative reviews this app gets. I’ve used it for six years as a liveaboard sailor. We’ve sailed from Maine to the Bahamas and Caribbean as far as Dominica multiple times and its been incredibly accurate, much better than the charts on my new Raymarine chartplotter, which cost five times as much. I chart all my routes with this app and follow it using my iPad. I just use my chart plotter as a backup. If I had to give up one, it would be the chartplotter. Keep up the great work guys and gals. As for the naysayers I’ve got a barely used sextant I’ll sell you for cheap.

Was great now good. Coverage area is very good. Charts redownload often causing delays in use. The new Auto Guidance+ has made the autorouting functionality much worse by requiring the user to manually put in at least one intermediate waypoint prior to creating a route automatically on anything but the simplest routes. This used to work great but now not so much. I do not see what the benefit of the new route guidance is compared to the prior capability. I have been using the autorouting for the last few years cruising the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic coast and Bahamas.

Navionics Lakes North App. I understand that the support for this app was rendered unusable due to IOS updates and that there are no plans to update or replace. When Navionics decided to market via the Apple Store for IOS products I would have thought the need for updates would have been recognized. So I purchased the App which was fantastic and perfectly suited for my area. When it stopped working I was very disappointed but understood the need for IOS updates and patiently waited. After more than a year I sent and inquiry to Navionics about the status for this App. I was informed that there will be no update to allow this App to work but that other Apps were available, “for purchase”. In reviewing these options I found them not suitable for my Region. I know Navionics has a variety of marine navigation hardware on the market that, for a price, can service my needs nicely. The rub is that I can no longer trust them. I purchased software they offered, then they decided to discontinue support with the option of “purchasing” other Apps. How can I trust them not to terminate support for any of the hardware/software they are marketing after I “purchase” these items. I know Navionics to be a competent provider of Marine Navigation system but can no longer trust their after market support.

Navionics - Boating marine & lakes. To be honest, this is the best boating/chart/gps app you can find in the app store! As a person who has experienced difficult conditions in waters at bad weather, this very app was the key point for me to get out of danger zones. The app has great tracking ability and following. Creating a route is simple as you tap to record your movements and then the app remembers. Head for home? Well this app has got you guided through. I highly recommend this app.

No more US Govt NOAA chart viewing!!!. Taking away the ability to view/use the Govt NOAA charts is the last straw example of this company’s greed. Many of us use those charts for planning but only buy your subscription Charts for areas we will actually sail in. In my case I buy the Caribbean chart subscription, but still want to look at several US locations so I use the Govt NOAA charts for that. It also looks like your Caribbean Charts subscription has increased from about $8 to $28 per year. That also seems greedy and price gouging, at the very least for us customers who have been loyal and supported Navionics for years. If you don’t decide to give us those Govt NOAA map viewing and reasonable subscription fees back, then its time for many of us to find a new Chart app !!

Still Trial...heading mode all is upside down. When I go in heading view (and heading south in this example), all the legends and info on the chart is upside down. Is this as intended? I also fly an airplane, and all GPS's including a GNS 430 keep the info upright and legible regardless of North Up or Track Up. To developer's response: goodness, man, we are driving a boat through moving water...what would make you think all that data is LESS important just because we want where we are going in front of us? Especially depths. Yes, please change that. There wouldn’t be a single boater in a thousand who would disagree. The more I think of it, the more ridiculous this is. We all drive cars with GPSs in them...even the developers do...who ever HEARD of a GPS that would present legends to you upside down! Talk about missing the point of a GPS system. My god.

You Forgot To Mention To Us With Your New Subscription. Your company changed the subscription from just USA to USA plus Canada and increased the yearly subscription price. I get it, costs change all the time and things become more expensive. The normal method of an app is if you renew your subscription, it adds a year on to the previous year’s subscription date. For example: If your yearly subscription ends on November 30, 2022 and you renew your subscription on October 30, 2022 (because no one waits until the last moment to renew as Navionics is a critical app that you don’t want to stop due to a subscription running out), the new subscription should run until November 30, 2023. But unfortunately, not only are you having a price increase, but your software doesn’t extend the original subscription date. It changes the new subscription to October 30, 2023 and it ends up with 2 subscriptions (1 subscription that can never be renewed as it’s only USA plus a second subscription of USA plus Canada). I just renewed and lost out on a month of time on my subscription. I am only 1 person, but imagine if a lot of people do this, too. There will be a lot of unhappy people out there.

Buy at your own risk. I bought this app from Navionics back when they sold regional apps. Later they got “seller’s remorse” and decided that they didn’t make enough money off of those of us that purchased their product, so they discontinued it and went to a yearly subscription. I opened my app to use it only to find that I needed to pay to use it AGAIN! Every other app developer grandfathers their current customers who helped support them. Not Navionics! Make sure you know that at any time Navionics may decide that they want to make more money off of you and when they do, they’ll simply stop providing what you paid for and demand more money to use the product you already bought. Buyer beware!!! Note the response from Navionics. I can re-download the app I already bought. They replaced my purchased app with the subscription app hoping I’d just roll over and pay again! Deal with this unscrupulous amoral company at your own risk.

iOS updates rendered old app useless without notification. I too am extremely disappointed in app support from Navionics!! The very least the company should have done, since they knew well in advance they were changing from a 32 bit app design to a 64 bit design, was to notify existing (who paid $9.99 for app) customers of the change coming!! Since that was not done, they also missed an opportunity to keep existing customers with a discounted “buy-in” of the new product. For these reasons I will never buy a mother Navionics product be it app or equipment for my 5 million yacht. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me! Not gonna happen. Next they will replace current 64 bit app with a 124 bit app, be ready for it.

Pretty Amazing. I’ve been sailing on-and-off since about 1965 and I’ve using this app on my iPad for only a few years but I now can’t really imagine sailing without it. It can be quirky to learn initially, but it is astounding what it can do and worth the time spent at home learning how to use it. I believe the company and its new customers would benefit from a mini video course using a series of short videos to train people how to best use the app. I’m sure there are many things I’ve yet to learn. Here’s a tip: When you’re at home playing with the app, learning it, turn off location services on your iPad settings for this app so it doesn’t keep wanting to bring you home (instead of out on the water where you’re pretending to be). (Note to Navionics: a training mode would be useful to accomplish this.) Don’t forget to turn location services back on when you head out on on the water.

Kind of rely on this app.... Wow. I hope this gets fixed soon since I just updated my subscription, but now the app won’t run for more than about 25 seconds without shutting down! Please fix! Maybe it’s an IOS 13.3.1 compatibility issue? Edit. After a day or two they fixed the problem. Thanks for the fast response! I’d give it 5 stars If I didn’t get the “Too many points” error when calculating routes so often and as some have said, gets a little sluggish with high volume AIS traffic. Still, this the best app in this category! I use it as the primary over my Garmin GPS, but having both is great.

I can’t read the DEPTH. What is the one thing you need from a chart but can’t get from just sitting in your boat ? WATER DEPTH. So, I bought the $15 subscription and kept this as a digital plan B when out on the water. When I tried to use it on the water (not an ideal reading environment ) I had to stop the boat and zoom in and out so the water depth was shown in a font bigger than 1cm. When zooming, the iPhone will digitally zoom and increase the depth markings to a readable size. Then the app redraws the map at a higher magnification and dutifully represents depth in the smallest font possible. I could not see depth on a iPhone plus. Why can’t this be set as a user option???? By the way, the finger pinch is generally interpreted as a “move to a location 100 miles from here...”. This app is too mature to suffer from basic user interface problems like this. Can’t the developer just clone a fishfinder/gps user interface? Garmin has one, and Garmin owns Navionics. Why sell an app that sports a half-baked user interface? But if you are sitting in a dark room with reading glasses, have plenty of patience, and perfect the pinch maneuver, you can scope out some new waterways with this app. Better yet, use the web browser interface for free and on a HUGE monitor you will be able to see depths. And you will avoid pinch vs move user interface confusion.

App won’t open!. Downloaded app and used it for 2 weeks on iPhone and it worked fine. Then all of a sudden when trying to open I got the blue Navionics screen for 1 second and then crashed. I am tech savvy and tried everything, deleted app and reloaded, cleared cache on phone, freed up space on phone, rebooted phone all to no avail. Definitely seems like a bug in the app. I contacted customer service via email and got one very unsatisfactory reply. This app is necessary for volunteer work I’m doing but am totally stuck with what seems like no help! ADDENDUM: Navionics responded recognizing the problem and stated they are working on it with urgency. Glad to see the company is responsive.

Getting worse every month.. This was a fantastic app 10 years ago. As the industry has shrunk to very few players/no competition it is now lousy. Basically, you should remain at all times in a strong WiFi environment at all times to get the most of it. It is possible to go boating short distances if you do not stray out of cell range. But going over the horizon - forget it! Their insane catchphrase, “We start where the road ends”. Should be, “Reach the horizon & you are LOST.” I’ve sailed From Hobart to Darwin in the past 4 months - usually without knowing exactly where I am. Very frustration and literally HUNDREDS of messages between a Navionics Bot & I. There may not be any humans working at Navionics except in the billing department. I have bought & downloaded C-maps also crap. And bought a Navionics card of Australia which seems to make my Brad new plotter fight with the app on my phone & tablet. In 2009 I made a 1600Nm voyage with my iPhone 3 and Navionics app - flawless! The good old days!

Keeps losing gps heading and speed. Well this has been a very frustrating app to use on an iphone 12 pro. The app tracks my location no problem but will continually lose gps heading and speed, while it keeps track of where i am. If continuously turn off location services and then back on it will work for 5min and then stop again. I have gps enabled always for the app. It has no problem recording my entire trip, but because it keeps dropping gps heading and speed, i end up with a trip that traced accurately but with inaccurate total milage and speed

Fraudulent app. Features that I already paid for no longer work. Not only do they no longer work, but the app developer now wants me to pay MORE than I previously paid. What a scam! You guys should be ashamed, really pitiful business tactics. Nice way to treat your users. I will never buy anything from your company ever again and I will be sure to tell other boaters my story. App developer claims they have removed redundant maps. Ok, the US map and Canada map could not be any different. Why do I care about Canada if I live in the US? Why are you forcing me to buy both and charge more? This is not a good deal, I care only about one specific area and that’s it. YOUR PRICE IS NOT REASONABLE and I don’t appreciate you removing maps that I already paid for and downloaded. Since I can’t use what I already bought, I want my money refunded.

What happened?!. Been using it for years on same lake no problem. Loved it for planning longer distance to help with time a d fuel calculations. Would always struggle some with automatic routing and I could just help it along by dragging and moving red line. Now it takes 5 mins or more to attempt a route. Wont let me edit it “too many points” and the I try to manually add points and let automatic routing help me out and it’s constantly trying to load something. Also map layers look terrible now One they took to much detail away the other added in too much. So bummmed used to recommend to everyone and now will be looking for replacement.

Frustrating app. This is one of the most frustrating unintuitive apps I have ever used. The directions on the side do not match what you see on the screen, that is extremely frustrating. Especially when the app does not work like you would think it would. If you are creating a route you should be able to"save" the route. That is not how it works you're supposed to press route again, completely unintuitive. The other way to save her route is to actually press start, but I don't want to start the route this is a row I'm creating for the future. But this is the only way to save the route. Even though the app says I have two routes I only have one. Extremely frustrating will not be renewing my subscription

Route/Track Header toggle. ***update to developer response. *********** Yeah, that is the problem. ONLY the track info is available in the header. The previous versions had a TOGGLE between track info on ROUTE info. The route info in the header had such info as time and mileage to the next route point. Without that, you have to do a lot of work to get that info. It was nice to have it quickly available. ********************************************** I used boating USA app to sail from New Orleans to Guatemala. It was a truly valuable app. Although I had other navigation systems to rely on as back up, I never used them. I will likely use this app again, next season, to continue down to Panama. The updates make the functionality different, and I'm sure I will learn it. If I can make one request, it would be to put back the Header Toggle between Route and Track info. Having that info available so quickly was very handy. That Header held a wealth of useful info, that just isn't there in the update. Bring that back, and you'll have a great product again.

Very useful. Could be great with a few small changes.. Use the app daily working full time on a sailboat. Very useful for route planning in conjunction with boat’s MFD. Great customer service, will work with you to fix any bugs (or which there aren’t many). Wish they had the option to offset the boat on the screen as you can in a hard wired GPS so the boat icon isn’t in the middle of the screen, but instead gives you more view of where you’re going (maybe 1/4-1/3 of screen where you’ve been, 2/3-3/4 where you’re going). Makes user experience much better, less moving the screen around as you’re sailing and instead just leaving the boat centered. Been using our iPad a lot recently as our boat’s MFD is malfunctioning, and this change would be awesome.

Expensive and deceptive. I bought this app years ago. I used it for planing kayaking trips. It was great back then. It included all the data. There was no subscription fee. It was EXPENSIVE at the time; the most expensive app I’d ever bought. I think it was $48. I hadn’t used it for a while. Now I had to pay for a subscription to use it. None of my data is there. Not only that, but the subscription price doesn’t include any data. No nautical chart is included in the subscription price! You have to pay an additional $15 for a nav chart “overlay.” And to get both US and Canada (which my subscription was supposed to cover) I need to buy two overlays. What once was a great app is now a very expensive subscription service. It might work for you if you use this on a yacht and can afford it, but for paddling I guess I’m going back to paper charts. It’s not worth it.

Wanted: split screen and low speed heading. First of all, I really like this app. I have my iPad mini in a mount on my little Boston Whaler. I wish that this had split screen capability. I run Mercury Vessel view. This lets me get all sorts of engine parameters via a bluetooth module on my engine. I can use slide over, but I wish this app had split screen capability. I showed myself going down a canal sideways at 4kts. It would be great to use the gps track as opposed to the compass heading at a much lower speed. I’ll throw the request out there, but I have the feeling that this is not something the developers have control of.

Navionics not as good as before. We have been using Navionics for a few years and loved it. The charts and nav functions worked great while cruising SE Asia, Japan, Alaska, and even a run from Annapolis to the BVI. But a while ago we got the notice we needed to upgrade to Boating. As we had such great luck with Navionics we paid our fee and did so. I am regretting it. The new version has GPS issues and often corrects dropping velocity and heading. The new programmer obviously knows little about GPS or cruising. I believe his Kalmen filter doesn’t load properly and when it resets it all goes to zero. I will be looking for another program. Note we have run this side by side on three devices. They all have the same problem but do not do it at the same time so I am making the assumption about the filter.

Pretty good!. This is the best stand-alone phone nav app I’ve used. It does basic chart plotting well, and has good, easy to use information. Also handy for COG, SOG and BTW. However, I have a few complaints: first there’s no option to switch compass modes from true to magnetic, so you can’t tell your driver “steer 210”. Second, making and following routes and waypoints is not at all intuitive. Half the time I end up putting the dividers on a mark and my location and using that instead of a waypoint. Which is dumb. One final thing: there’s no option to keep the app active, so my phone goes to sleep and takes a few seconds to turn back on again. This gets annoying when you have to do it over and over while navigating. So, this app is quite good at chart plotting but leaves a lot to be desired in terms of UI/UX. until I find something better I’ll be using this app.

Painful. We are planning a crossing of the Indian Ocean, Red Sea and Mediterranean this fall. I took the time to download all the potential areas that we might enter. Using a very expensive yet slow and unreliable internet connection here in Malaysia it took weeks to get all the little squares selected and downloaded. But I was persistent and got them all downloaded and thought I was ready to go. Now they have disappeared, gone! This is totally not a good situation, we could be weeks away from land and any internet or phone tower. When you are in the middle of the ocean, doing a new download is not an option! I just now checked my iPad, I had taken the time to download, using that tiny little download box, I worked my way all the way around Africa and through the Med charts. It was all loaded for offline use. Now the Africa charts are gone!! Two separate devices. Different missing charts. This is just a very frustrating application. Now it will cost me time and money to download all the charts again!! Is it worth it? You cannot rely on the charts you need to be on your devices. I would highly discourage anyone from purchasing this app or charts.

Warning, forced subscription. Cloud and big data ahead.. With the last update, Garmin is now forcing users to create an account before allowing access to the app. Even if you have a current subscription purchased under the old model. They are claiming the community asked for it and it was done solely to share subscriptions and stored data across devices. However if this was truly the case, they could have easily made use of an account optional. One has to wonder what exactly they are up to with user data. Garmin folks: this practice violates trust with the user community and will result in loss of market share when the next option comes around. Please consider supporting all your user types, not just adjusting policies to what the business guys say provides the best return on investment.

Very disappointing. I am so disappointed in Navionic’s support of this app. I’ve been a user for 3 years now and can’t depend on it working. Lots of good features, and when it works its just what I want. But often it loses track of my location or fails to start tracking my location. It’s so bad most of the time that I need to have the app open, then reboot to get tracking started. I have reported the problems, provided details, and even helped by providing logs of the problem. Navionics says they’re going to work on it, but I rarely get any follow up. And the problems don’t go away. I make sure my app and phone (iPhone 14 Pro) are up to date, still exhibiting the same problems for last 2 years. When I first bought the app it was $15, then jumped to $30, going to $50 on renewal. Not me - no way will I pay much (if anything) for this level of customer care and performance. Edit: developer has very nicely asked me to contact them, but as I hope I made clear above, I’ve already been in contact. In fact, I’ve been trying to get them to fix the problem for 2 years now. So frustrated - they noted that it’s difficult working with the 3rd-party GPS function. I mean, jeez, it’s a navigation app. You should have GPS mastered by now. Really hoping you get better at this, but for now, I’m not paying another penny.

The maps are good but everything else could be better…. I like this app, I want to like it more. The maps are solid. However the user interface leaves a little to be desired. Its hard to really put my finger on what makes the UI bad, but its just not easy and intuitive to use. However my biggest issue is that routes are limited to 1000 points. This is a really odd limitation they have placed in the app. What ever the reason for it, it needs to change. Other apps don’t have this issue. 1000 points in a route may not be a very long one along the ICW where it meanders and snakes around.

Beware when you renew subscription. The Navionics app continues to be misleading when you try to renew your subscription. I renewed my subscription to US and Canada, but the app continued to display “Subscription Expired” and a button to “USA Charts”, no matter how many times I restarted and re-synched the app. Eventually, out of desperation, I clicked the “USA Charts” button, so I got subscribed to USA as well (which are already included in US and Canada). I really feel that the UI misled me. I emailed Navionics, explaining what happened and asking for a refund on the second purchase, but no reply. Navionics charts are good, but I am so tired with Navionics behavior, their in-app purchases are just misleading, they do not follow Apple’s guidelines, and have been this way for a long time. I did report them to Apple, if you have similar problems do the same.

Be careful. I had a subscription to USA lakes and marine but went to renew. The only Option it gave was USA and Canada. Since I was going on a fishing trip I went Ahead and renewed but honestly I don’t think I’ll ever fish in Canada. I’m old and don’t travel much so the extra mapping is useless for me. Just my 2 cents. I received a response to this review from the developer. They explained that the USA version was discontinued and the additional Canada mapping was added value. This IS true, however as I stated before, it is an additional cost to a good App that I will NEVER be able to use. I will not be fishing in Canada. Therefore no value to me. I suppose I will have to seek other mapping choices.

HD version to iPhone version. I paid for HD version on my iPad but it doesn’t recognise it on my iPhone don’t want to pay again , is there a way to use my phone as well with the same subscription and how ? Otherwise works great love the features although I have troubles getting on the gps mark when travelling slow as iPad doesn’t seem to keep up .

Subscription cost almost tripled in price. I have been a long time user of navionics plus which was previously about $35 a year for aus maps. Went to renew my subscription and it is now $89 a year! Forget it Garmin, I will be switching to a competitors maps for that price.

Departure time. Love this app. But if you add field for the departure time into the boat details that shows the eta at each waypoint in a route that would make it even better as when navigating in some cases you want to do it during the day.

Great app. I am so glad I bought this app. I don’t normally purchase apps but this was one Im so happy with. Because of this app and it’s satellite locator I was able to get my boat off a sand bank thanks to its real life images and tide levels. But most importantly it’s got my family and I out of a storm in the dark in unfamiliar ocean due to its locator and real life imaging. I was able to use it to Navigate around island and sand banks and aim for hard to see markers

App saying downloaded maps couldn’t be found. All of a sudden on the same device the app wouldn’t get past where I could use it, as if I had no subscriptions so I uninstalled and now I can’t even log in. Been a long time user and the website is useless for customer service please fix this issue, not sure if it happened after the last update

Great product. I have used this app for about 5-years It works well and I love the wind weather and tide functions This is not my principle source of navigation but makes a great back-up Hand when I at home and just want to check out some information on a chart or see if I can get out next day

Forced to pay subscription after already purchasing the app. I bought this app outright years ago specifically with the maps of WA and NZ. Now it’s updated and I can no longer access the maps I paid for without signing up to a subscription. Should be offered some kind of refund or given free access to my original maps that I purchased.

This app is a scam. I had this app for a year with no issues but once i’d renewed the subscription I found there had actually been no renewal. There is no real customer service to help resolve this other than some general information on their support page, an email I’ve had no response from and a chat bot that doesn’t work.

App Issue. Hi great app and have been using it for many years, however recently it’s developed a bug where you lose the chart when you zoom out and than the app crashes. Please fix it!

Effective but…. The interface isn’t intuitive. No night mode 🤬 Maps take forever to download. 🤬 Would love an auto log feature. Every x hours it would plot your position and the data to add to your log. It honestly feels like the chart makers went to a software engineer and said build an app. The software engineer has never been boating and the chart makers had zero input on the creation of the app.

Purchased subscription lost??. Downloaded the app and purchased Australia and NZ charts in mid January. Now the app says I have to subscribe even though in the buy map list it says I have 345 days left. Clicking on the support site link takes me to a site in German? Can’t understand anything. App looked promising but is too flaky. I’ll go back to iS****r.

A Fantastic App. I I've been a long-time subscriber to this app, including the Navionics AU&NZ. Despite its 3-star rating, I believe it's unfairly critiqued by some. Personally, I find the app to be excellent, serving me well for fishing trips and navigating coastlines when moving boats. On my own boat, I primarily rely on Garmin gear, using this app as a reliable backup. When I'm on others' boats, it consistently impresses me with its auto navigate option.

Rubbish. I paid for the previous app which I used for many years around Australia. I updated to this useless app which is very confusing and dangerous. This app will auto route across shallow water, do not trust it. Icons are not standardised and misleading. Information on marina services is very inadequate. Even our free 24 hour pink moorings in NSW don’t exist. What an idiot I was for buying this app with a yearly subscription, when I had the old one that I bought outright and still work’s well.

Only records 5 minutes. Don’t know what happened since I used it last, but I used to be able to start a track, then turn off phone to save battery until I needed the charts and it would happily save my track. Today I have three 5 minute tracks. I checked app was running and had GPS permission for always on. Very disappointed with whatever has caused this and it isn’t cheap. Don’t get me wrong the charts are good etc. Can I recommend it, sorry not until this is sorted. Tempted to ask for a refund.

Unable to login. Great app, paid for premium edition. Found numerous great fishing spots. Went to use app recently and was unable to login, tried resetting password, but link never comes through to email?

Taken my money but won’t register the payment so paid for nothing. Zero help with the issue. Had problems to begin with. Support staff have been amazing. Took a bit to sort out but they never gave up or brushed me off. Happy to do a 100% backflip on my review. Always loved the product, the fact I couldn’t use it when I paid for it didn’t go down well, all sorted by support staff and back to a happy camper here. 100% recommended for the product and for the support staff.

Great App. I love this App. Very handy and easy to use. Maps have good level of detail and weather, wind and tide info also handy. Loving the auto-route feature. By far the best App for Navigation, regularly updated maps and a bargain compared to buying charts on a memory card. Very happy with Developers responses to my questions thus far. Would it be possible to add a switch in the Map Options to bring up the Console to show speed, heading, distance and time information even when not following an active track.

How is it not better ?. 80 percent of the time I have to close and re open the app to get it to work. Being that this is the main mean of recreational navigation this should be a lot better in so many ways. Please pick up your game Garmin

Do not purchase.. I purchased this app a few years back. Once iOS 11 was release like many others on this review I couldn’t use any more. The developer is making it hard for people to get upgraded by asking for old receipts. The developer will have our purchase information and should make our lives easier. This is a great app but not cheap.

Enhanced navigation aids / tracks. I love the app and use it all the time. If 3 distance/bearing indicators were available (only 1 currently) and a distance from target (acquired independently from radar) circles were available then GPS location could be verified from compass or radar observations. I also retain tracks as a sailing log. Could comments be added to these for wind / sea state / observations etc. also a crew entry would allow a log to be generated for each person to allow skipper to know each crew member experience on board accurately.

Navionics Australia. It is a great app but given the subscription amount per year (which now updates automatically) I think is too much. For the constant price of the annual subscription you would be better off to do some homework and purchase a decent chart plotter for your boat. Yes it’s a great app but is it worth the yearly subscription of almost $90….. it’s a big no from me.

Unstable, constant crashing.. IPad with iOS 15.5. Program crashes frequently or does not start at all. When it’s open and I select Start to track: crash. Switch to another program, come back and it has lost the map. Or it shows the map, but lost the gps and does not show your position nor your speed. This version is not usable and in need of serious debugging.

Markers synced then disappeared while fishing. I dropped my iPhone 6 in the water, put navionics on my new iPhone 6 the next day and miraculously all of my markers appeared. They stayed for 2 weeks until the weekend when I got half way too one of hem and all of them disappeared! So bummed I didn’t write them down, this app is good for navigation yes but not worth the money you pay if the marker information is so worthless too the app producers. You should be able to go to a page where not just markers come up in a list, the last and longs should be displayed underneath!

Regularly used. Is there current issues at the moment with this App? 7/9/22. The app opens then closes a short time later unexpectedly. Have been using this app for a very long time no real issues. I’ve lost my saved tracks on a few occasions for unknown reasons. Apart from that I recommended this app (paid version)

Compass. Hi love using the app Is there any chance you can make an option where we can switch to magnetic compass instead of true Would make life a lot easier

Now can’t use this app where there is no Internet. Ridiculous: With the recent App upgrade the user is forced to log in to use the App. This means that if there is no Internet The user can’t use the App!! Most places I go have no signal and I don’t have a Sat phone. Who thought of this silly new system?

Sick of it. Have been paying big money for years for this app for iPhone and iPad. Well behind the times. Crashes when looking at anchor history input Of it her users. I feel like I’m using game boy instead of what should be a cutting edge app

Potentially great. I have started using this app on my iPad to replace my HDS8 unit (I am just using the sonar screen now). If the developers can introduce an auto track (record) start and a latching heads up default I think we have a winner! At the moment you must manually reset the heads up each time you do anything on the screen and the record must be manually activated to see your track. Thanks guys, please keep evolving this app, it is the future.

Chart has lost all information. Purchased this app years ago and now I have to pay to view my previous maps . They have deleted all my app info water depths and channel markers etc just want what I paid for not interested in subscription

No longer able to download previously purchased maps. I’ve been using this for about 10 years and it’s was good up until this month. I bought Australasia maps way back, and have been using it since. The latest updates no longer let you download any previously purchased maps unless you have an active subscription. Their excuse is they’ve changed their subscription model. I don’t want any premium features- just the maps I paid for. I’ve reported it to the ACCC.

Great App. Great app for price and features. When will we able to split screen it with apps like Mercury VesselView Mobile?

Love it, but sync issues. Hi, have loved this app for some time, however with lastest updates, I cannot sync to my Raymarine chart plotter. Despite updating and rebooting everything I keep getting “card not found”.

Subscription issues. Love this app as has all the detail that I need being new to the boating world but have had issues with the app wanting me to renew my subscription every 3 months. Can’t access the features I am entitled to and can be frustrating.

Terrible don’t use!. Been using Navionics paid version for 2 years. I go and update my app today and now it keeps saying “error while logging in try again later” - unacceptable to have these issues given the success of earlier versions. Time for C-map 👍

Good - but could be better. Good for most things, but a couple of suggestions that could improve the usability from my point of view. - when searching markers, can you please provide the option to order the search results (i.e. by name, date, or proximity to location). This would be handy. It doesn’t appear to display them in any particular order at the moment. - the app should let you select a point on the map near to where you want a marker (click blue ?), then be able to edit the coordinates/rename. Currently it only has ‘selected location’ which can’t be edited - so where you click has to be perfect. This leaves no option but using the last/long search which is much slower. - I would love to have the ability to have more depth ranges than 5. Unlimited would be great. Or up to 20? Love this feature.

Was a great app, but now it just keeps crashing. Purchased the maps on this app and used it for a few months and absolutely loved it. Then all of a sudden the app keeps crashing to the point it won’t even open. Have already tried updating the app, my phone, force closed everything and it still will not open. Was worth the money when it was working correctly but I would not purchase it again until they sort the app out and it works normally again. Until then it’s just a waste of money if you pay for this app.

Enjoy the app after issue was resolved. (Edited) I genuinely enjoy using this app but I had issues logging in after the iOS 11 update. Following a lot of emails back and forth and stuffing around, the app is back up and running.

Best purchase I’ve made. Outstanding performance, little bit annoying to get the hang of but it’s very simple to use and is extremely reliable and safe way of making a route to places for boating 10/10 recommend

Sonar imagery query. I don’t have the sonar imagery as an option on the boating app I have renewed my subscription thinking this would give this option, but it seems not. What do I need to do to get this, I believe to have the latest version of the app?

Quite Dissapointed. So just downloaded the app and am familiarising myself with it. Overall - not impressed: There seems to be no functionality to store a list of waypoints and then construct a course by selecting waypoints from that list. There seems to be no functionality to type in a lat long set of co-ordinates for a way point - rather you have to drag around the screen until you find them. No 3d view to follow track. No split screen No customisation of the screen. This is pretty basic stuff yet it is all missing. Overall - as I suggest in the title of this review - this is a pretty ‘dumbed down’ navigation app - suggest you do your research before subscribing.

Constantly freaking the screen…. Developer acknowledged but did not address any of the bugs..! I was considering buying the subscription and was testing the trail. Unable to route very long trips automatically (e.g. Pittwater to Fiji); it would just not work… Very small trips (less the 50nm) have refresh issues with the map (downloaded) on an iPad Pro with nothing else running and plenty of extra memory. This would be unusable out on the water. Happy to discuss with the developer to trouble shoot.

Cant open app. Been using Navionics for years and have had no problems until the last 6 months or so. App wont open a lot of the time now. I have to remove the app and reinstall it. Not a problem if in an area of reception, but coming back from Indonesia recently it was useless. Very poor for something that is very expensive for yearly subscription. If it continues on will look elsewhere.

Great Navigation App, Missing one Thing. Great navigation app I use it every time that I go fishing and works flawlessly. One minor detail is it’s missing a quick “mark waypoint” button for us fishos that’s easily accessible on the navigation screen.

Loast all my charts because it made me download the new app. Happily navigating my way around the canary islands ( very secluded area of the world ) Am told by the old app to download the new one . As it says, all your data and charts will be transferred to the new app. So i do this, next minute i open the new app and there is not one of my charts ( $200 worth as iam in the middle of a yacht circumnavigation around the world) not to mention leaving me stranded without navigation aid?? I have these charts on 3 different devices as back ups. All 3 decided they didnt want to show me the purchased charts anymore. Yes i could have spend more money and downloaded the chart i needed at the time. But what the hell?

App crashing constantly. Absolutely love this app and has been a lifesaver. Always using it but my only problem is the app constantly crashes… can we get a fix on this?

Was excellent but no more. Too greedy now. Before Garmin purchased navionics it was the best, most user friendly and value for money navigation app infinitely better than the Garmin app. Now they’ve applied their greedy business style and destroyed a perfectly good navigation app. Maybe they should get rid of the marketing department and save money and increase sales by supplying a good product. It’s so disappointing that short sighted nuff nuffs have ruined what was a great product due to their hubris! ( morons)

Please Fix App Issues. The Boating App used to be great. Fast reliable and very stable. Recent versions have been terrible - the app force quits on launch nearly 70% of the time. When it does launch the map is often white or the GPS location is completely wrong. I’ve also noticed it causing my iPhone 13 Pro to overheat. When I contacted the support they suggested it was a memory issue but the app still struggles to work properly having closed all other apps and restarted the device. I’ve tried a number of fresh installs of the app but still no good. Please fix these annoying issues they are taking the pleasure out of boating for me.

Jury is still deliberating.. This is a great app BUT I purchased the yearly subscription under the understanding that it allows family sharing. I then loaded it onto my husband’s phone and it won’t recognise my log on. Tried to get help from Navionics and nobody is answering my email. Not happy Jan! UPDATE: I did get a response and the app is working well however there needs to be easier and clearer user instructions for family sharing. On a bright note though, my husband loves it now and we have also purchased the HD SUBSCRIPTION for iPad.

Pretty good for North up. Been using the app for about 3 years, mostly the paid ipad version. Works well and the maps for perth local waters are fairly good. The customisation of the maps is also good, though not particularly intuitive to set up. Main issue I have is when I select head up or course up for map orientation. Sort of works providing you don’t pinch and zoom too much. Frequently flicks back to north up, occasionally locking me out of selecting head up again without force closing and restarting app. Bit annoying when you’re heading into a reefy bay.

Last and long format. This is a great tool but by no means a primary navigation source, please can you add the option of choosing the latitude and longitude formats 1. Degrees decimal degrees. 2 degrees, minutes decimal minutes. 3 Degrees, minutes, seconds for when the search for the position of a coordinate is used, currently the roller dial is set to degrees decimal degrees. It would help greatly when trying to find a position in a hurry and one is used to a certain format as well as running the same format on the vessel GPS plotters. Also saves time as recalculation would not be necessary ( search and rescue operations ) Many thanks

Dock to dock autorouting does not work.. Dock to dock autorouting does not work anymore since the last update. It draws a straight grey line. Only manual route works.

Works but I bought it years ago now it wants a subscription. Was great payed good money years ago and then they removed the old app and now it wants more money to use the features that I payed for already.. other then that it’s a good app.

Missing Icons. I am missing fuel icons on my iPhone. They show up when viewing charts on my iPad, but are completely missing on my iPhone. I am able to search for fuel stations… 🤷‍♂️

Charts no Longer yours. Latest updates removes ability to use charts after subscription expires. This is counter to what they stated in previous versions. Cost is also rising.

Great!!. Really great, particularly with the Tpod. Would be great to be linked with the apple watch, just to show the depth, when you are busy doing other stuff and need a quick check.

App keeps crashing. This is an amazing app for navigation except for the past few months it has been unusable do to it crashing. Using it on a iPhone 14 pro

Wonderful product. Replaced chart plotter.. Our chart plotter stopped working (not Garmin) shortly after departing the Caribbean. Navionics was always intended to be our backup but ended up being our primary navigation tool. We sailed from the Caribbean through Panama Canal and along west coast of North America to Canada. Little issues. Lost connection with GPS device on occasion but not likely a Navionics issue. Great tool. Use it every time we head out in coastal or open ocean!!

Attention.

Merci

For frequent technical issues. For years the navigation and location has been terrible; constantly cutting in and out. In the last couple of weeks and months the app has started crashing sporadically which has been causing lots of headaches as we navigate around the gulf and discovery islands. Today I can’t even open the app. The app has almost become necessary for so many people including myself. But I’ll be looking for alternatives as this is becoming dangerous and frustrating. Paper charts are looking more affordable as subscription fees increase.

Essential app. Responsive developer. I use this app all the time. It certainly causes frustration but it’s the best I have found. When I have had an issue the developer has always been responsive and fixed it. The charts are very good. Any error I have reported has been fixed, which is cool. The extra bits are nice. I like the dock to dock routing. I wish it had an anchor alarm.

Navionics. App often will not open on my phone! Reboot phone, still no joy🤷‍♂️

update: Hold off on this latest version. 2022.11.16 in a desperate attempt to remedy the continuing worsening problems after the last update i completely deleted the app and all associated data. i also deleted all my saved routes and waypoints. (i run the app on my phone and ipad - routing data is kept in the cloud and will reload when you log in.) after reloading everything from scratch, the app appears to be functioning as it should now. i still have some playing to do as per map updates and working offline but so far so good. i raise my rating from 0 stars to three. if the app turns out to be as reliable as the original this rating will go to 5 again. ——————— this app used to have it all. now not usable without internet connection. oh, it lets you download all your maps but seems to need to download more whenever you want to edit an old route or plan a new route. previous planning functionality has also been lost. i suspect that this might be remedied. i have given this app 5 stars in past and have virtually lived on it when cruising. now i'm looking for something else. note: make sure you test ALL your planned routes BEFORE you leave home and fast internet. there are many 'hidden' downloads required not included in the 'update maps' function. just downloaded an additional 4Gb of 'hidden' map data to get me from the Broughtons to Bella Bella. very slow and uses up your data allowance.

Not worth it anymore. With recent changes and limiting connections to two devices Navionics has goon too far. Won’t be renewing next year if remains the same

Latest update. So with the latest update after end of a yearly subscription we can no longer access the old maps ? Auto renew by default ? What a bunch of greedy buggers. I’ve been a Navionics user and buyer of many charts for many years but now it’s time to leave. This sure is going downhill fast since Ga$min took over. 🪛🫵

Fonts for depth are too small on ipad. Back in the day, when I first started using on my ipad, there were two options for the size of the fonts on depth. Since they dis away with this feature, and left it at the smallest size, it has been uncomfortable to use when putting down crab and prawn traps. When zooming in to close ups the depth reading fonts should zoom as well.

chart update blocked. good app in general however if you subscribe to more than one region and keep the charts after expiry of the subscription the expired charts are blocking any automatic updates! That includes charts from all other valid subscriptions / regions. I first noticed this with on SW release 18.2.2 and reported to Navionics now 3 months later on SW 19.0.2 the issue has not been solved. I wonder if might be Navionics strategy to force you to delete downloaded charts after expiry of the subscription. I’m disappointed by Navionics and have tried AQUAMAP which I can recommend.

Bait and Switch.. On August 4th I made an in-app purchase for $29.99 (plus taxes) totalling $33.59 for US & Canada chart data. I received an email receipt from Apple. I was able to use the app on my iPhone throughout August, September and October. It opened and worked just fine on my iphone. But today, (February 5th) after a few months of not using the app, I was surprised to see when I went to open it that Garmin will not let me use the app and data I have paid for - until / unless I additionally create a Garmin login and provide Garmin with my personal information. I just want to be able to access the app and data I paid $33.59 for. Instead, I am blocked from doing so until / unless I give Garmin additional personal information. That’s not what I purchased or signed up for. Garmin should not be able to prevent my access to this paid in-app purchase.

Junk used to be free now everything is you have to pay and can’t even do 2 week trail. App used to be good now you can’t even do a 2 week trial piece of junk

Avis sur l’application. Elles est à amélioré trop de détails.Elle devrait être simplifiée a vouloir trop bien faire on fait le contraire.

Crashes. The latest update crashes my iPad. It won't even open.

Missing current data icons in Canada. Where are is the information for Dodds Narrows etc. I paid for premium and now have less data. Not impressed!

Problems with current software. Major Problems with: 1. No current speed information at critical passages. BC , Canada coast. Example Dood Narrows(south of Nanaimo - nothing . One of 3 stations in the area (since Aug 2022) current can run over 7 knots. 2. Times for Tides and Currents use the wrong time zone. Northern BC does not use Alaskan Time! Hasn’t fixed in 4 years 3. To use the app on the water the ability to place the boat on the bottom of the screen (Look Ahead Mode) would be more helpful. Most chart plotters have this built in. Boaters normally do not need to view chart information behind them. AIS will show predictor lines from vessels overtaking you. Harvey

Great but recently buggy. Having constant crashes, failure to update location.

terrible. way too much crap want to keep it basic cant get back to simplicity location direction speed

Useless and dangerous. Do not rely on this mick mouse app not accurate and misleading

Totally impressed. I’ve used Navionics for three years and It’s kept me off the rocks and given me complete assurance at night and in fog. I used it on iPhone and iPad (cel version). It’s totally intuitive and right. The merger w Garmin is likely a good thing and will give greater platform transferability.

Dishonest developer. I’ve downloaded this app years ago as “free”. However, the free version is useless, so I subscribed to the paid version (3 times so far). They used to say (and it still might say) that your purchased and downloaded charts are free for life. Not so. I just opened the app first time this season and I couldn’t even open it without signing up for a new Garmin account. Once did, it tells me I got no downloaded charts for Canada or the US and I need to subscribe again. I also have two chart plotters that separately demands payment for updated nacionics charts, that were fully paid for in-store WITH LIFETIME CHART UPDATES, or I guess until policy updates. Bye-bye Navionics aka Garmin, I’ll never give you my money again, even if I have to go to a subpar competition of yours, or have to use paper charts for the rest of my life.

At least the maps are good. The bathymetry data for most of the waters I paddle and fish in are excellent and accurate, but the app itself is terrible. Not a surprise for a Garmin product, unfortunately. They have great hardware and maps, but their software is often disappointing. Power efficiency is rubbish. My phone becomes hot to the touch within 30 seconds of opening the app, and using it for any length of time tanks my battery. Since I often use it from a kayak, where connecting to external power is not possible, this is a major liability. The app is incompatible with the Deeper fish finder app — seemingly an insoluble bug. So I can either have sonar or bathymetry. Given the power consumption issues, I choose sonar when I’m out on the water.

Works great. I’ve used this for several years on a few different iPhones. It works great!

Use GPS2IP app for wifi tablet. To get a wifi only tablet to link with your iPhones gps use the GPS2IP app.

Good but not great. The app itself is great, however it crashes way way too frequently.

Double charge. How do I refund a double charge?

Theives. These people sold an expensive app to the public - nearly 100 dollar one time fee…then they systematically terminated it and replaced it with a subscription service. When I contacted them, they said if I had the ORIGINAL PHONE with the ORIGINAL APP installed it would work, and that it was their choice to not support it. When I countered their argument, they refused to answer. They deserve bankruptcy - get something else. Was a crap app anyway.

New Version. The old Canada navionics was great. Just recently made me change to the new version. Lost all my waypoints and now is a yearly subscription.

Navionics. I paid $50 for Navionics HD (Canada and US) in 2013. I also paid for a one year subscription. Now, we find out if the subscription is not renewed, the program simply stops working with no charts being visible. This is unacceptable. I used Navionics for years with no problems but now Garmin owns it, they feel they have the right to just take away something I paid for. I request the boating community writes to Navionics to voice their discontent with this new policy. I am planning on raising this subject on numerous boating websites. There is going to be a huge number of very ticked off yachties when the word gets out. Some times, app developers shoot themselves in the foot. Please, put things back the way they were and stop taking away something I have bought and paid for. I plan to approach Apple and check with legal advice to see if this is even legal. You can’t just take this away from me. Cheers John Vye

Best App for boating ever. I have been using Navionics for 4 years and it has never led me astray. Learn to use it effectively and you will only use your GPS as redundant back up system. The features in Navionics are second to none! Handheld on phone, pad or GPS chip in plotter you can count on its reliability and regular updates. Knowing what I know now and using it frequently I would never spend good money on marine electronics when Navionics is available. Buy fuel instead with your savings and travel with confidence on the water with Navionics.

Can’t login,. why is it that I’ve done the upgrade yrs ago and now I can’t access the app?

Not reliable. Constant crashes ! Can’t calculate route ! Uploaded app and maps five times and still won’t work ! Not reliable !!!

Can’t even create an account. Blocked by their server offer downloading app and attempt to create account

Garmin Money-Grab. So like so many other apps you have turned to an exorbitant subscription revenue stream. Well I am not impressed. Just because Garmin smelled money does not justify this renewing price hike. And worse, you are threatening users with making the maps and features inaccessible if they don’t go along for the ride, including people like me who previously BOUGHT said maps. Why not have a two-tier system: Entry (can still purchase and use maps but they will be static, i.e. no updates except to the app itself) and Pro (subscription based that provides users with all the bells and whistles, as stated in your recent promotions).

Ipad air 5 m1 chip wifi/cellular. Do not bother getting this app for this device.. On my new ipad air with apples M1 chip wifi/cellular. the Tracking is very intermittent, rendering navigation useless on my ipad . Worth noting tho is that At the same time tracking stops on the new ipad. The tracking on my iphone XR and my old ipad mini2 works flawleslly. What the hell is going on?Is Navionics not compatible with the new M1 chip on the air and the pro ?

Free trial won’t work. Wants me to pay $35 a year to use the app, but I can’t even get the trial subscription to work to see if it’s worth it.

Love it, but what happened to currents?. This is my go to app. I use it every time we’re on the water. Just recently all the current speed/times have disappeared for Vancouver Island with the exception of Active Pass. Please, we need Dodd Narrows, Gabriola Pass, Porlier Pass, etc.

Full version did not transfer to my new phone. A few days after purchasing the full version of Boating Us & Canada my I phone crashed. When I setup my new phone and went into my I cloud to retrieve my apps, only the 15 day free trial reloaded. Now I’m stuck without the app and being asked to purchase the full version again. Also have had no response from the help line on Navionic’s website.

Unfortunate. That is all I can say about Version 18.0. With limited data available and often sketchy cell service when away from the big downtown city, requiring cell service to have complete functionality of a marine product is ludicrous. What were the developers thinking? I would like to roll back to the previous Version 17.2.2.

Navionics dead in the water. Needing cellular service to be able to use the app all of a sudden?? What! I would not have updated it if I knew that’s what was going to happen. Being able to use it offline, “like on the ocean” is one of the things that made it great, now what’s the point? Do they think there’s cell towers just floating around out there? I swear people that develop products don’t actually use them, it’s obvious now. Update, the development team got back to me, resolved the issue and it’s working without the need for cellular service like it use to, sorry for the scathing review at first. I’m back to thinking this is one of the most useful apps I have.

Problème au lancement de l’apps!. Depuis la nouvelle mise à jour, L’application ce ferme tout de suite

Still no anchor alarm?!. I can’t believe they haven’t put an anchor alarm yet 🙄

Not so good. I bought the the app so I could see the water depth of the Susquehanna river in PA. It should be one of the most well known rivers in the state. This app showed the entire river as 0-1 foot deep. I asked for help and was told that my settings were off when I’ve never changed them. Double checked that and still 0-1. This app paints a picture of having more information but really you’re better off using maps provided online.

Change of yerms. I bought this app a couple years ago as an occasional sailor. I also bought the Europe maps. I think I paid €30 for the app and about the same for the maps. Now I cannot use the app any longer without buying a subscription. That’s a change of contract. The concept if “buying” an app is not the same as buying a physical map. Apparently. The UI if this app is counterintuitive. It takes a while to understand and it’s easy to fall in the same mistakes. Saving a route, retrieving it and running it are easily mistaken. On a night navigation I had this app run alongside google maps to make sure it was doing the right thing. The only reason this map has any users is there are no other decent apps with moving map and some like Garmin that are even more expensive and locked to hardware. Overall a decent experience for a few bucks. No way I will ever pay a subscription to update the position of buoys or the depth of the sea.

No cell service? No map for you.. I used the predecessor app for years and was very pleased with it. Now that Garmin took over, it requires you to create an account and log in before you can use even your saved maps. Not cool. I tried to open the app while out of cell range (like many places where the app needs to work — ON THE WATER!), and since I could not create an account, I couldn’t do anything, including important things like simply view my location on the previously saved maps. Total fail. Do not count on this app when it matters.

Had to buy twice, still won’t work!. This Navionics product may be amazing, but since the developers switched to Boating and Marina, the charts will not stay loaded on my IPad. I have been asked by the APP to purchase a subscription three times now, all within the last six months. I have paid all three times but the APP continues to ask for a subscription and deletes the downloaded information in the process! We are almost full time cruisers and need reliable charting software. This product does not work right. Developers should be more clear on payments. Is the subscription monthly?

Navionics - Boating marine & lakes. To be honest, this is the best boating/chart/gps app you can find in the app store! As a person who has experienced difficult conditions in waters at bad weather, this very app was the key point for me to get out of danger zones. The app has great tracking ability and following. Creating a route is simple as you tap to record your movements and then the app remembers. Head for home? Well this app has got you guided through. I highly recommend this app.

Keep my direction UP when I ZOOM!!!. Love this app, but I’m teetering on leaving it for another one because when I have my orientation set to “up” being my forward motion, then I zoom in or out, the orientation auto switches back to north being up and it drives me insane!!! I zoom a lot and having to zoom, reorient gps, zoom, reorient gps makes it almost unusable. Even when I put the setting to keep my heading always up, it still does it!! Help, developers! Seems like a small fix (26 year mobile dev here :) )

Requires account even for the free version. This app requires an account with personal information to use even the free version of the app. If you’re not willing to do it, this app is useless. Response to the response from the developer: Yes, you just confirmed my complaint. Why do I need a account at all? Even for paid apps or subscriptions I can normally do it through the Apple store. You enforce an extra and separate login that is completely unnecessary for the functionality. Other companies can do it without no matter if it’s Paid, Purchased or subscription.

How much does it cost for a map?. The price is too high. I don’t need charts of the whole continent. I don’t need them to update every day. The bottom of the lake doesn’t change that much and I don’t see new infrastructure being built every week. I’m not looking for a social media platform for fishing. For all the money I’ve paid over the years I should be able to open the app on my iPad and see a functional chart even if it isn’t updated continuously. Why can’t I buy a chart to keep? Is it greed?

All good. I have had this app before Garmin bought it. This has been a fantastic app. My routes used to be magenta but they turned gray. I renewed the subscription which used to be $5 then $15 now $25 but my routes are still grayed out. How do I get the magenta back? Thank you for your prompt response. The magenta has returned. This is one of my favorite apps. I have used it on my Seadoo and now use it on my pontoon boat.

Platform used for scam, spam, or phishing. I revived a social “ is trying to connect with you!” Through this app, thing is, I don’t know , and I’ve never used this app, so, a user or true developers themselves are using the social “connect” feature to spam, scam, or some kind of phishing, maybe it increases their downloads and the amount of privacy-invasive information they gather about their users, I don’t care to speculate just be warned this is an abuse platform one way or another

Expired subscriptions render app unusable. The app works great until one of your map subscriptions expires. The app then reminds you constantly, including every time you go back to it after minimizing it, and makes you “accept terms” for use of the “free” features just so you can then use it with the subscription you paid for. I have multiple maps downloaded from multiple trips but only one subscription active at any time. Worst design ever. Come on Navionics — you should be better than this!

Route option is great. I rented a boat with my family in unfamiliar waters. The routing option was very useful, I used charts to familiarize myself with the area and then set a route with this app. The routing worked just like my car map app, I was able to search for points of interest and set my route. I kept the app up as a fail safe while I focused my attention on my surroundings. The app was great peace of mind.

Love this app but hard to get any tech support. This app is super useful as a fisherman mariner in Alaska but it was annoying that I bought the AIS overlay for 100$ and it doesn’t work where I live in Alaska because there are no receivers up here where I live. Can’t figure out how or where to request a refund. Would appreciate some guidance if someone from the company is reading this.

Can’t sign in on multiple devices [FIXED]. My husband and I bought this on his phone, when I downloaded it on mine and signed in with our login, it prompts me to pay for it AGAIN! No way. We’ll be using NavX from now on. [FIXED: see developer response. Leaving this review for anyone else experiencing the problem but changed to 5 stars.]

Ripoff!! Don’t buy it!!. They get your money, then they delete it and then they want to charge you again and again and again for what you already paid for!! A complete ripoff!! Their pitiful lie of an excuse is that they updated maps and that this is a “price adjustment”. It’s not an adjustment. They delete downloaded info you paid for and then want you to pay for the exact same crap again and again!! I’ll never buy anything from them again, apps, maps or chips!!

The best time to innovate was yesterday…. Navionics is great, in general… but if you really want to stay ahead of the game you’ll add Apple Watch integration. The ability to drop waypoints would be a good start… with the Action Button would be even better. I would gladly accept a free subscription for this awesome idea because I’m not buying it without this feature, and if you need someone to build it for you, let’s talk!

Long time user. First time reviewer. The Navionics app has always been a good backup to my chart plotter but the dock to dock routing has been lack luster. However, I just tried it again and it is massively improved. It’s now useful when plotting a cruise up and down the ICW. Thanks Navionics dev team!

Was ok now worthless with out subscriptions. Paid for this years ago, worked ok for a back up gps and pre planning trips when access to boat electronics were not available. But now the map options are gone and it’s asking me to buy annual subscriptions, when I purchased I didn’t NEED subscriptions only if I wanted to enhance my experience. So can I get a refund or credit for what I purchased that no longer works? It was not a free trial it was paid for. Will be looking into other apps...

Disappointed. This app started out great. After a few months the app showed I needed to update my maps. Unfortunately I allowed the app to update my maps. Now a great feature that showed certain shaded areas is no longer available. Customer service to resolve this issue started out ok, now they just ignore my emails. Trying to contact them by phone is nearly impossible unless you have a lot of time to wait to get connected with a rep. This is not a cheap app, and I can’t believe they made the maps worse with an update! Very disappointed!!!

Ok. Room for improvement. Just got it. Nice so far. But please, PLEASE move the image/map copyright links farther off the center of the map. I’m getting really sick of the website opening every time I zoom in or out. There’s no reason they need to be where they are. Update: received response from the developer stating that they have to have those links for the terrain overlay because it’s not their map data. Well no I don’t think so, many other apps have that in a settings menu. But that doesn’t address the poor placement or almost invisible color. So it gets tapped every zoom attempt. Dropping to 1star based on ridiculous developer response.

My go to Nav App but clunky. We use this app whenever sailing anywhere - Dow load maps beforehand but without wifi they’re big. My biggest problem with this app is that the UX is super clunky. I never know where things are and it doesn’t follow modern conventions. Which are pretty standard across most other navigation apps. Then there’s the huge gaping lack of night mode. Which makes this app unusable when boating at night. For that we use openCPN broadcast from a raspberryPi and CMap’s Enbark. Can you pleeeese add nighttime mode.

2 Device limit is unsafe and a scam. We are full time liveaboards who are sailing around the world. This new rule about only 2 devices running at the same time is a complete crock. We have 2 iPads and 3 iphones on board that (use) to run navionics. But now we can only run 2? How is this right? We pay for navionics for our boat. We should be able to use as many devices as we want. It’s also unsafe to be offshore with no signal and open up the app to find out we can’t log in. You guys really need to rethink this one. We’ll be switching to a competitor after our charts expire if you don’t. Sad and frustrated at this. Very sad.

Great when it works. I’ve been using Navionics for at least a few years now and have been very happy with it, I mark spots and can go right back to them, perfect! Problem that I have now is that it won’t open up and let me use it, I’ve been having lots of issues with it. One day it works the next day it won’t even open up. Very frustrating when you’re fishing and won’t be back there for another year

Money hungry. I’ve used this app for a long time. They keep raising the price. Last year it was 15$ for US maps. Now they have canceled that and are trying to make me pay 25$ for the US and Canada map. I live in South Carolina and will never visit Canada in my whole life. I should have the option to just get US maps and not get the Canada maps. They are making thousands of people pay for something they will never use. This is wrong, greedy, and stupid and they won’t get anymore of my dollars or recommendations.

Not for Sailors. After paying for this application 2 years ago, I came to realize it doesn’t keep an accurate count of mileage covered (especially when tacking or jibing). I reached out to the company and was told they had people working on that problem. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and renewed my subscription a year into it. A year later; it’s never been resolved. I’m switching to INavX. No anchor alarm, either.

Could be so much better!. I cannot see why there is a limitation on just using the internal memory on devices for maps. Why not allow the maps to be stored on memory cards. These cards have revolutionized the device market by allowing so much more on mobile devices. I would love to get all the maps I need loaded on a memory card and access them as needed instead of taking up all my device memory and terrible download speeds when traveling and relying on 4G.

Videos help but.... There is still much to do. For example how to predict passage time given tide offsets at a future date. An important part of real world navigation is knowing when to leave to arrive at your destination at a specific time (and depth). Needs a predicted log with tide flow integrated in. Often the longer route is faster when adverse tides can be avoided. But it is a good start.

Won’t even open after the update. I’ve used the app for years. The forced “navionics account” was bad enough. Just let us link our apple or Google account and then pay for a subscription through the store. You know, the way that every other app does it… Besides that, the most recent update completely broke the app. It doesn’t even open now. It’s been over a week and this hasn’t been resolved. They need to just revert back to the old version until the bugs are ironed out. Why am I paying for this? This is ridiculous.

Latest update is garbage. Nothing like being treated as a beta tester for paid for software. Autoroute+ is in fact no autoroute at all, unless a perfectly straight line from point a to point b is what you’re looking for (never mind that pesky peninsula it’ll make room for you). Hoped that with the Navionics acquisition Garmin would take their better maps and autoroute and work it into the Garmin product, what they have actually done is taken the worst of Garmin and piled it on top of Navionics and made it unusable

Life saver. Ok. Formerly a 1 star. Frustrated it always said unable to calculate route. However after working with navionics (great customer care) we figured out it was the boat settings. It now works beautifully Boat with confidence! Wish it wouldn’t change orientation when touching the map. Would love it to stay on course up. Thanks for the help navionics!!

First time using it, doesn’t seem very accurate. Subscribed to the app this week but when I went out on the boat this weekend some of the data on the chart was way off. The sandbars/disappearing islands in Nassua Sound (FL) were not where they are shown on the map. I understand they move around but they they weren’t even close. The charts also showed a large 6’-0” hole in a creek but there was no change in depth when we drove over the spot? How often is this information updated?

Midwest Lakes. This app is the best money I’ve spent on fishing outside of livescope. It updates constantly the contours are extremely accurate in my opinion. I love the depth shading aspect. The brush pile markers will get you close enough to find on side imager. Thank you Navionics for making an awesome user friendly product!

Awesome app. I have been boating since the early 70s as a kid, commercial fished George’s Bank and all areas in the Northeast us. Sport fished eastern seaboard along with racing offshore powerboats all the way from Great lakes to the Caribbean including Cuba. Did the great circle with a 88 Pershing that cruised at 45 knots. I have used every version of chart plotter, GPS and charting software available. This little app on a IPhone is as accurate, dependable and as powerful as any chart plotter out there. For the cost, it’s AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Misleading. I used this app during the free trial. It’s fine for basic navigation. One of the reasons I upgraded was for the dock to dock auto routing. A new feature they promoted heavily. It would be a fantastic feature IF IT WORKED which it doesn’t. I followed the instructions exactly and no luck. The route still creates a straight line over land. An email to support resulted in an auto generated response telling me to download maps and have the latest version of the app. All of which I made sure I did before reaching out So I wasted my money on a feature that doesn’t work and a company that doesn’t respond .

Scams and cheaters. Do not purchase!. As an early adopter, I purchased this app for a very high one time fee which I was told would last as a one time purchase subscription, it was then discontinued and developer opened a new app with a short two window window to resubscribe for more money albeit for a discount I was scammed. The charts are in accurate, do not load properly and constantly flooded with add spam. I highly recommend to stay away from these products from Navionics. They are out to scam you, deceive you and take your hard-earned money. Never again Navionics, you should be ashamed and embarrassed for your business practices.

Best app ever.. I am a master Captian. I use this app religiously. On my own boat I never turn on the Chartplotter. I use Navionics on my iPad. When I do a delivery I do the same. The auto guidance is amazing as is the sonar charts. I’ve traveled from Dubuque Iowa to Jacksonville Florida using this app on an iPad and never had a problem. It’s just great.

Awesome app. I really don’t understand the bad reviews. I’ve been using this app for over 6 years, fishing the open ocean up to 80 miles offshore. It has never let me down. Suggestion/request for the developers: please display lat/long as you move the crosshairs on the chart. Overall a great app, please keep up the great work !!!

Navigation wizard.. I didn’t want to pay an arm & a leg for a navigation app, but Navionics Boating turned out to be very reasonable. The auto course routing alone is well worth the price. It maps out your route point to point taking into account depth and markers using your boats specs as a guide. I’ll never fish again without it !

Great app but needs location update fix. So fantastic must have app but sometimes with latest version when opening or switching back to app it will show a stale boat location with no indicator that it’s stale and it just doesn’t update until u force kill and re launch. You CANNOT show stale location especially with no indicator that it’s old. Can be dangerous. Get this fixed ASAP please.

Captain Andy. I’ve used Navionics all over the world and will not leave the dock without it. I real time navigate, I monitor my anchor drag, and I pull up old tracks to trace back over returning to skinny water ports. Not to mention the ability to find all the services in the area, overlay wind on the chart, tides, currents, sunrise, sunset, brief weather, range and bearing, and wow who wouldn’t want it.

Too difficult to use. It’s a shame how difficult it is to use this app. Try adding a waypoint and then moving it a little. Or try selecting a nav buoy to see the light timing while in a boat. God forbid a waypoint be near the buoy; you’ll never be able to select the buoy instead of the waypoint while underway. Why not have important info like the buoy’s Iight pattern be easy to read. Why not make Routes easy to edit. For the life of me, I cannot get a route to auto create without including a nearby channel only ships have to use. Such a shame.

Does not work with Vesper AIS. Navionics, over all, is a great app. I have used it for years. However, the AIS connection to the Vesper AIS, device does not work. Whenever I try to connect my iPad or iPhone to the Vesper device, I just get the message that there is ‘No Internet Connection’ to the device. Of course there is no internet connection since it is just a AIS device but it still refuses to connect to my iPhone or iPad. This is hugely problematic and dangerous in rural areas where there is no cell phone signal, which provides the Navionics app with your location.

Used to be awesome until Garmen bought it!. I paid like $15 when this app first came out many years ago. I used it for years and the app was always ahead of its time. Now that Garmin bought it, they deactivated the old app, and forced users to download a new version with the same exact icon and name, thus forcing us to pay for their features. The new app is no better than the original Navionics and if anything it’s more confusing to use than ever. I usually like Garmin’s products but thumbs way down for you guys destroying a perfectly good app.

Great app for serious trip planning and backup. I have use this app for at least 5 years. It’s east to use and amazing. I have used it from FL up the Tenn Tom and all over the Great Lakes. I don’t understand the negative reviews. Even when I am underway I will have this running on my phone or on the iPad.

I Did Not Get What I Paid For!. I bought this app several years ago for fishing. I just wanted it for the topo maps. Worked good. Now this year I can’t see depth any longer without purchasing a subscription for what I had already paid for. I understand if they want to charge for map updates, that’s fair, but I at least deserve the maps I had paid for in the past. Just another software company trying to fill their pockets by selling subscriptions. It is not worth the subscription fees.

Great- missing strong weather. The app is responsive, easy to use and charts update fast. Wish it had stronger weather options like the old Garmin BlueChart app, which had excellent weather features...current conditions, marine text forecast, sea temp overlay, lighting strikes, storm tracking..would pay extra for that! instead of having to jump around to different apps

Not sure if I really like it.. I bought the app to use mostly on Lake Michigan. The app works but it has a few issues. First, it has only a few of the Mariñas in some areas. Second, must of the times the routs when you use "boat to" takes you inland. Apparently the app cannot define very well between inland and the water. Third, it doesn't really gives you the waves report; you have to find some buoys and many times it reports the wrong wave size. When you click on Buoys does not give you the wave info either. Fourth, once you start the navigation it does not give you the distance to your destination just the information since you started the trip. The map doesn't update your location automatically so you are force to go their way which most likely than not takes you inland. For being the #1 boating app as they claim, they have a lot to improve still. It is $10 a year after all.

Great app!. I have been using navionics for 8 years, user friendly. One nice to have would be the ability to add notes to markers. I love dropping a pin everywhere we anchor but would like to leave more information regarding swell, what to look out for, etc.
