Topo Maps+ Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Hiking Enthusiast. Use my TopoMaps+ several times a week. Tracking is better than most high dollar handheld GPS units, of which I have several. I use the track and waypoints for info in preparing Hiking Guidebooks. I compare coordinates with handheld units and they are right on. Love the options available for transferring data. It’s easy. The Pro version has added options which I really like. I gave recommended this App to a lot of my hiking buddies and they love it too. Best App available for GPS tracking. The variety of maps are amazing also.

Maps are good, but UI is confusing and unnecessarily difficult to use. The topo maps are good, especially the high res maps. However, the GUI of this app needs some cleanup. Everything feels about twice as complicated as it needs to be. During a hike, just accessing the distance traveled and elevation can sometimes be confusing because the view heirarchy is confusing. As another reviewer said, it’s difficult to figure iut if you’re actually using your purchased apps sometimes as well. There are tons of map choices for purchase, but in the end this mind of makes things more complicated for little gain. Now one if my biggest gripes. Zooming in and out is awful! Pinching my fingers only seems to zoom the map like 10% of the time! I have to try over and over again just to zoom in or out, and it’s irritating and exhausting. Why? This app has so much potential, and yet the GUI is just too confusing and zooming is unnecessarily obnoxious.

Great App but needs improvement. I have been using Topo maps+ for couple of years for backpacking and it works well in the backcountry. However, plotting routes is a pain. First of all, I don’t like the fact that it doesn’t have desk top application that can be used to plot routes and then import to the app. Also, the app doesn’t work well on the iPad - it’s super slow. Search function is not that great. When I am planning a hike and want to enter a search criteria to go to that map section, it doesn’t always take me to where I want to go means there are still a lot of places that are not entered? Also, when I plot a route using existing trails, cursor just stops if there is even a little gap in the trail on the map. Then I have to start a new route and then connect both later on which is a pain. I know I can use the freehand but freehand is not that accurate on mileages. I prefer using existing routes.

TopoMaps+ is simply the best. We spend over 75 days a year climbing mostly In places without cell service- i never leave the house without my SPOT, my Sat Phone, and TopoMaps+ downloaded... it is by far the best Topo map app there is. Great support and works flawlessly with downloaded maps in Airplane Mode when out of cell. It has been a game changer for us in terms of hiking, back country running, hunting, climbing, skiing and every outdoor activity we do here in Idaho, across the West, and in elite Sky Running Races in Europe. Get Pro version- you will not regret it

How do I transfer my data to my new phone??. Been using the app for years, and it is flawless. phone reception or not - This app will take you places. With that being said, I upgraded to the iPhone 13 pro max today and this was literally the first app I downloaded. I logged in, and it appears as though my years worth of trails and tagged spots have disappeared. I’d really like to get those back if anyone can shed any light on it for me! Thanks for reading.

Excellent tools, user interface and Apple Watch needs work.. As a horseback rider and member of Back Country Horseman in my state, we rely on and use many systems to mark areas on trails for important reasons mostly for making them safe for the hikers. Topo Maps+ has some excellent tools and features and training videos but they are in places that seem logical to find them and unless you take the time to really become an expert at using the app, those extra tools I rarely use. As for the Apple Ultra, it works great but the interface is confusing such as end a track, where’s the button? And I have all these tracks that are me on highways because I can’t shut the Watch app off of tracking even though I DID do it as per the tech support. So until they fix the user interface for the Watch app, and also allow same on app such as being able to delete a track without having to go through 4-5 steps to get there, I will rate this app 4 stars.

There are much better options for most. I know this app has its fans but, unless you need something specific that’s unique to this app, there are much better choices. Unless you pay fifty dollars a year, or more, you’re limited to poor low resolution apps and most features are disabled. There are much better options for less money like the free and open source GPX Tracker or the amazing WorkOutDoors that’s subscription free, just five bucks one time, and completely shames Topo Maps+ with its Apple Watch support. Or GPS Tracks for less than half the price with most of the same maps. Gaia and AllTrails also shame Topo Maps+ in many ways. Topo Maps+ has very crude and limited Apple Watch support. It also wants access to a ton of personal information, requires you to open an account with more personal information, and links and collects more personal data than many similar apps. If your main goal is tracking/navigating hikes, walks, runs, and similar on trails or roads, and you have an Apple Watch, just get WorkOutDoors and you’ll have maps of the world that just work, and more easily accessible data than you can imagine, without paying any subscription fees. If you’re planning to go off trail you might want something more but even still you can likely save some money with one of the less expensive options. I cancelled my paid trial and have uninstalled the app as it’s just not worth paying for and the free version is basically worthless.

As good as it gets!. One of those really rare apps where function, interface and support are all near-perfect. Even when I’m in Thailand the maps are more useful than Google or Apple for outdoor navigation. In the US, the detail includes hi-res satellite images and everything USGS offers. You can plan a route to avoid whatever features you want to, see an elevation profile, and zoom in on satellite imagery close enough to see if roads and trails look like fun. When you’re under way, you get a warning when you’re off track, an easy way to take a bearing on nearby topographic features, and a very detailed log. Add photos whenever. The Apple Watch app works like a charm, too: no need to have your phone with you. Get home and export your track to Google Earth, e-mail it to your mother, whatever. Yes, you have to pay — but none of the other gear you need is free, and very little of it is as good.

Great!. Free version has Offline Downloadable map chunks, decent resolution, and RELIABLE. GPS location compatible. I download the map chunks and use them with google earth when planning my 3-7 day hikes in "real" wilderness with only animal trails and forest service roads. I can use it for alternative routes (paths of least resistance) and emergency locations for rescue and water refill. ALWAYS share your path, and points of interest throughly with someone else, and be realistic. I can hike 4 MPH on clear roads and trails for 12 hours a day... But in the wild your paths are not straight, and the going is not that easy. For safety, I plan for 2 miles a day, and use the rest of the time for food, camp, and water. I don't want anyone fired from their job, hurt, lost, or freaking out wondering about the unknown if something were to happen to me. I'm a professional, and this a a simplified review. If you are confident, you are going to fail. Plan better. This tool helps.

A great reliable app that constantly gets better.. I’ve been using this app for five years and developed trail maps for friends and family with it. It continuously impresses me and everybody I share it! While the developer always recommends printing out paper maps (with the app) when you go into the wilderness, this app will not fail you. Every year there are new features that make your planning easier and you’re hiking more enjoyable. I am especially enjoying marking waypoints where I find wild mushrooms and wild flowers so I can easily find them each season. I’ve also imported GPX property lines and others trails into topo maps plus. The iPad version is fantastic for planning routes and reviewing a trip with others, too. Most of my friends choose to pay for the subscription (one time ) and download the maps for the place we go each year. Others use the free version to keep on the trails I’ve mapped and helped import into the free version. I and a few of my friends and family subscribe to the pro version because of all the help we’ve received from the developer in mapping our area and the gratitude we feel for such an amazing tool. I have used the app hiking in more than 9 US states. It frequently helps me find local places to hike in new areas. Download it and the more you use it, the more you will see what it has to help you enjoy in the wilderness or your local park.

Professional Use, Applicable Settings, Top Tier Service. I have used this application across a wide range of use from Military use in terrain evaluation and movement. To personal hikes to get to prominent locations. I have continued to be impressed by the quality of service from the Topo Maps+ team. I also am thankful for the commitment to Service members and their families. They have so many great features from hunting use to national parks I have used Topo Maps+ in states ranging from Washington, Utah, Alabama, Florida, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, and Arizona I have tested and used this application. It has yet to fail me in any standard from up to date maps, inputting various coordinate systems, and navigate the land from both my mobile platform and from my Mac with trails and roads easily viewable. I have used other apps but none that have my loyalty and use like Topo Maps+. I have used this application for over a year and depend on it weekly in career and personal use. It’s worth your consideration.

Disappointing purchase. I purchased the map pass subscription, downloaded the app on my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook strictly for the high resolution maps. The app delivers on the iOS devices but when you open it on a MacOS device you are told that you have to upgrade to the Pro version (another $50/yr) to get the higher resolution maps that you are looking at on your iOS device and have already paid for. Ripoff!!! Having used multiple GPS and mapping programs, I would recommend people skip Topo Maps and purchase a subscription to Gaia Pro,($40 instead of the $30 for map pass + $50 for the Pro version of Topo Maps to run on MacOS), which gives you everything Topo Maps Pro gives you including syncing data across all devices.

The Best Out There, So You Can Get Out There. I’ve tried all the other backcountry mapping apps, and I always come back to TopoMaps+. The interface is easy to use, looks (and behaves) native, the free version is very usable, and my goodness, the number of power-user features is amazing. I’ve been intensely mapping trails and points of interest for the last several years in a mountain range, and I’m able to keep my hundreds of waypoints and trails organized and at-hand because of the clever tagging system. There are a lot of good maps, even without the pro subscription or map pass. And the other hiking oriented features work great too (I love “Progress on Trail”). It’s saved my bacon several times when navigating off-trail in deep woods in the dark, so, thank you developers!

A great Hiking Partner. I have used paper USGS Topo maps for years both in the real estate business and for hiking and outdoor recreation. Now I can have the map in my pocket, both with and without cell access, that shows me where I’m at all times with several map formats to use. So far I have only used it for hiking in my local area, but looking forward to use this app in areas that I’m not familiar with as we travel around the country looking for hiking and biking opportunities.

Awesome App!!. I’ve been using this app for about a year now. I used it last fall on a hunting trip. Marked hunting locations, trails, sign, and all sorts of things. I love the fact that you can pick what kind of map you want to view it on, there are so many options! I also ride horse a lot, and a lot of the time there is no reception in the mountains. So the fact that you can download the maps to your phone ahead of time is great!! I am just using the free version but it still works awesome!

Great app, involved developer!. There are a lot of mapping apps out there, and this is definitely one of the best. The mobile app is well-designed by someone who actually spends time in the backcountry, and tight integration with a full-featured desktop app is awesome. Most importantly, the developer Stephen Johnson is highly responsive to user comments & feature suggestions--a couple features I suggested were quickly added to the app in updates--outstanding! $50/year for full access to all high-res maps is totally reasonable, and the recent update to V5 is a big improvement. Thanks Stephen!

Go to tool for serious hiking. My wife and I have used Topomaps (pro version) for the last 3 + years and although we have some other hiking/trail apps tools that we use also, Topomaps is our go to mapping/hiking tool for our serious backcountry hikes. One of the greatest things about Topomaps is the very prompt support I get from Stephen and/or Danny when I have problems...or just questions. They are VERY good at getting back to me in a timely manner and explain things in terms I can understand. Yes, there are glitches with the app on occasions but there are with any app. It seems like they do their very best to provide the proper updates to fix the glitches as quickly as possible. Keep up the good work guys and thanks for a great product. Marty

GPS and Print. Always know where you are. With this app you can download your maps to your iPhone and have a printed map from the app. I never worry about my iPhone dying because I have the printed maps. I print them a bit larger so I don’t have to use my glasses. The app lets you customize the size, choose between different maps and even overlay maps to get the look you want. I also use my iPhone to check my navigation skills while using the paper map. The app shows right where you are using its GPS on the trail. Never feel lost again.

Satellite GPS Services Didn’t Work. Set up the app, had location shared, downloaded maps / routes and set off into mountain. Once out of cell service discovered the app wasn’t functioning as advertised, couldn’t pull my location at all. Completely worthless to have maps/routes downloaded as we couldn’t see where we were on there or if we were even on the route we had planned/downloaded. Contacted customer support and provided a diagnostics report, which confirmed that location was shared with the app. Had to eat the cost of the app subscription but definitely wouldn’t recommend trusting this for your off-grid adventures.

It really works!!. I recently did a 10 day off-road camping trip to the North Eastern Sierras where I took my jeep into the back country where I knew I would not have a signal of any kind. I preloaded the topographic maps into my cell phone and was amazed at how precise this mapping tool is. It was able to pinpoint my exact location at all times in areas where I would have otherwise needed to rely on a Garmin GPS with birds-eye imaging. Just make sure to download the maps prior to your trip. Amazing App!!

Great app, even the free version. I like pretty much everything, however the update that added all of the new waypoints overwrote some of my old waypoints that I already had saved on my maps, if possible could the old waypoints be added back in a future update? The old upside down teardrop had higher contrast with a dark bottom and lighter top that was much easier to distinguish if you had a few waypoints close together. And when importing it’d be great to have the option to change all of the waypoint icons at once, I may have just not seen the option to do that if it’s already there but it would be great to organize waypoints by each import from a kml file. But anyway, for a free hiking map app I’ve not seen any better ones available, I spend a lot of time in the woods at work and in my free time so this app has been invaluable to me

Exactly as advertised!. I just returned from a week paddling in Quetico Provincial Park, a wilderness canoe area in Ontario, adjacent to the Boundary Waters in MN. In the past, I've relied solely on a compass and map to navigate in Quetico, but this time I wanted a GPS backup (without buying an expensive GPS unit), i.e. a smartphone app. I'd read some positive reviews of Topo Maps +, and contacted them with some questions. I ended up corresponding with Stephen Johnson, founder of Glacier Peak Studios. He patiently walked me through the (simple and intuitive) set up, and guided me on how to download the maps I needed for Quetico into my smartphone, and explained how I could count on the phone's GPS capability even when I had no cell service or wifi in the bush. Bottom line: five or six times last week, I opened the app (in Quetico, in the "middle of nowhere" with absolutely no cell or wifi service of any kind). Within 30 seconds or so, my phone was showing me EXACTLY where I was in high res detail (again, pinpointing my precise location on a particular lake, island, portage, etc.). Worked like a charm every time with no exceptions! Cannot speak highly enough of the app or the support. If there were a six star rating, they'd get it from me!

Topo maps 👍. Very nice app for being free. Wish the maps had a little better detail and in my area some of the trails are not updated or the original trails are off a little bit but I have been tracking all the trails myself and manually adding every trail in my area on my phone. I love the app I wish I knew if there was a way to submit this map from my phone to topo maps to get all the trails I have mapped printed out on a copy like 4’x5’ to hang on my way in my garage or at Camp. I recommended this to a few people and they also like the app

Spend some time with it before you head out. I downloaded this for a trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. I went ahead and paid for the detailed maps of those parks as separate purchases. Once I got to the area, I couldn’t tell if I was using those maps. I finally realized that I wasn’t. I kept trying to download them, but iffy WiFi and cell signal in the park made it fail. I finally sent a note to support and got a reply from the founder of this app. I really can’t fault his follow up. He talked me through the maps icon showing the map you are using having a green border. The downloads have to continue until they say Open. At home this is no big deal, but on low bandwidth that download can sit in full green for a while before showing Open. I kept closing it too soon. Anyway, resolution is very good on those purchased maps and if you download them ahead of time, it is easy to use. With family sharing, others in the family can also download them. A friend that came with us got the subscription. This meant she had to download each map section. Again, better to do that before you leave stable WiFi. Only after I got home did I try my iPad. Looks great and we could have used that for planning the next days hikes over dinner. Without GPS, wifi only iPad won’t show location or path. But it is a nice big, high quality map for planning. So the interface could be easier, but it works as advertised and the founder Mr. Johnson has my thanks for reaching out to help, personally.

Huge price increase.. I love this app, especially the ability to download maps for offline use, but suddenly charging $50 a year to do so is a giant leap from being able to do so for free. I can find much cheaper apps to do the same thing. I dont need all the pro features. It would be nice to have a budget option. I dont mind paying for something like that. I’m definitely not going to subscribe to the pro package, though. It’s a real bummer because I’ve been using this app for years and have many paths saved onto it. I kinda feel like I’m getting screwed out of my data.

Great app but one weakness: Needs much larger fonts. I have been using Topo Maps+ for mountain day hiking. Overall excellent maps and features but I find the labels on the maps very hard to read. Would appreciate if we had the option for the smallest labels to be literally triple the size they are now. When I magnify the maps by zooming in the text resizes to far-too-small-to-read. Otherwise I have only praise for the design and usability. Thanks.

Big Bend gps works great without service. Just got back from the mountains of west Texas. Really enjoyed my iphone (which is my gps, camera, and compass) running topi maps +. Before hiking I subscribed and was able to download the needed high resolution maps but at the check in point only had 1-2 bars of service—so took 1/2 hour for just 4 sections. but worked fine. Tracked my hikes with magenta color and kept me from getting lost or circling. However—WHAT does it mean when the blue locator ball has a ray beam? ALSO—what is that wagging tail pointer needed for (on the blue ball)since its not pointing to magnetic North? So i give this app a 4 because of the skimpy outback “manual”. Hey some of us are new at digital GPS apps! Otherwise its a bargain and can save time or even lives. Nice app overall.

My favorite app. I’ve never written a review before but this app has compelled me. It functions absolutely flawlessly from my phone with no need to sync with computers and all the headache that comes with a GPS unit. The maps have proved to be accurate and the ability to overlay the Topo and satellite is incredibly useful. When I’m out hiking I put the phone in the airplane mode. And only use about 30 to 40% of the battery in a entire day of hiking and navigation. With a small external battery pack in the same pocket of my backpack as my phone I can easily go for five days of navigating as long as I’m not continuing to room for cell service or playing games at night.

Casual Appalachian hiker. Decided to go ahead and purchase Topo Maps + Pro after using free version for a little while. I couldn’t be more pleased; I think it is well worth the subscription. Numerous map options. ‘Natural Atlas’ is the one I use the most. Many features and they all seem to work well. Also, the printing feature works well and I just have a regular H&P printer from Wal Mart. The developers send out regular email tutorials too which help, but overall I would say most of the features are pretty intuitive. Thanks!

Not much to say beyond fantastic.. I have been using this app for almost two years now and have used it in the USA from coast to coast Hawaii and even in Guam. It has never failed to get me information I need to make it to the trailhead and into the backcountry. There is sometimes a little learning curve to pick the right map city, suburbs or backcountry, but once I’ve made a decision I have never Ben disappointed. I have used this app on Three of New Zealand’s Great walks and several day hikes just inside and out of Aukland. And just recently used it just for grins at the Great Wall outside of Beijing, don’t need a map to follow the Great Wall. My only issue there was lack of gps coverage even with a bad elf plugged into my iPhone 7 Plus. Keep playing with the map because every time I do, I seem to find something else that's new. I’m a tried and true paper map hiker but love this app for the holes in paper map coverage or route changes in my wanderings. Can’t wait to try out the new US Natural Map.

Love This App!!. Planned more hikes than we had days for in Rocky Mountain National Park for the second week of June not knowing exactly what kind of snow we'd find on the trails. Topo Maps+ was a blessing when the snow obliterated the trails. In addition, the Progress on Trail function is amazing fo those long hikes. It lets you know where you are and how much longer you have to go to the next waypoint or till the end. Furthermore, the manager, Danny Scott, is a treasure. I love the emails with tips and suggestions and when I had a question about a particular feature he was on it right away. Thank you for an App that works and continues to grow and develop. Cheers!!

Sharing. I shared this app to another co-worker because we both like to ride our mountain bikes and thought it would help in areas we weren’t familiar with. See this guy is an engineer and when he had an issue with flooding on our highway, dangerous to our travelers. They needed to know where the water was coming from and he remembered he had the topo map and it provided him with answers why the water was flowing towards the highway. Since then he also had his engineers down load the app also.

Amazing app. The pro version of this app is absolutely worth the cost. I generally refuse to purchase subscription software...in fact, this is the first subscription software I’ve ever purchased. But that’s because it’s extremely powerful and the maps are beautiful. If you don’t like the free version (if you’d play around with it, you’d find that it actually has one map that’s not completely low resolution), then watch the videos on the website to be convinced to purchase the pro version. It is absolutely worth the price.

Very useful and straight forward. I’ve been using Topo Maps+ for about a month or so now and have appreciated it’s power & simplicity. It’s very helpful to be able to download the tiles for an area to work offline when backpacking. I recently purchased the pro version for increased resolution and I think it’s worth the extra money. It does take a bit longer to download tiles but it’s not terrible with a good internet connection and it’s to be expected. I haven’t tested all of the features let but love the ones that I have. I’ve also contacted Danny with a contour label discrepancy on one of the maps & He was very responsive & friendly. The free version has worked fine but I really like the clarity of the higher resolution. Another advantage of the pro version is that it supports future development & improvements.

My compliments. Added Note: developer response to App Store reviews is VERY prompt, and helpful. A suggestion: provide a link to the help email address someplace in the MacOS app. Selecting MacOS Help shows: “Help isn’t available for Topo Maps.” A comment: I’m happy with the costs. I’d much rather be the customer than the product. Adding MacOS app to subscription: if you have a Pro subscription via the iPhone/iPad app and later download the app for MacOS, there evidently can be a delay between signing in and the subscription update. It can be a little confusing because routes, waypoints, etc. update right away leading you to suspect that something isn’t working right. A few minor glitches, but... What a great app! Detailed maps of trails excluded from other apps and maps. If one map doesn’t show the trail, another map will. I love the trail planning capabilities. The snap-to-waypoint feature makes it exceptionally easy to plan a hike and get detailed information about it. Even if part of the hike is on, for example, a road and not a recognized trail, that portion can easily be added using freehand route tracing. Just fantastic.

Flexible Scale. The scale changes as you shrink or expand the map. Never found any digital map that would do this. My second time rating this great app. To those who don’t like the old maps, they’re the ones to show you old mines, quarries, railroad right of ways, abandoned structures, monumented and unmonumented benchmarks, etc. The shading for forested land from an old USGS map also shows where the old growth was. Just looking at the differences is fun! Also, the most personal support from any app I’ve had since first ever IPad.

Hiking in New Hampshire. This is an amazing app! Not only does it do everything I wanted and more, but their user support responded quickly and personally to help me figure out what I’m slow to learn. I hike regularly in NH, always using a GPS. I purchased the Pro version of Topo Maps + hoping I could leave my stand-alone GPS at home and instead use this app to find my way. I did a trial hike using both (stand-alone and iPhone app) and was surprised to find Topo Maps + superior in every way! The screen is bigger and easier to use (zoom or look ahead), the map has more detail, and the resulting track is more accurate. Wow. Bye bye stand-alone GPS!

Topo Maps is great. I used another apps for hiking trails prior using Topo Maps. Topo Maps has been great a mobile phone GPS apps. The maps are great. Logging trails and marking waypoints are easy to do. The stats on distance, elevation, hiking duration, etc, are great features and are pretty accurate. Maps download is simple to do. This apps has all the features that I need to track and record my trails. Although I have a GPS, I have been using this apps instead of my GPS. Once I downloaded the maps I need, I can use them offline which is an important feature to me. When I need to reinstall the apps due to phone issue, I don’t lose my recorded tracks which is a big plus. The apps is dependable and has all the features I like to have for my needs. When you have questions regarding the apps, you get response back promptly which I really appreciate. Great apps to use for trails for my needs. Thanks for developed a great GPS apps for mobile phone.

Could be a life saver. I’ve been using TopoMaps+ for several years and it has never failed to track within a few feet of the trail, and get me right back on track when I strayed. Notably in cloud-forest in Colombia, in thick cloud on top of Table Mountain, and recently a few times in the White Mountains NH where the trail just disappeared on me. Many thanks for this app, it has turned several potentially-seriously-dangerous scenarios into “no problem”. (Tips - I always use TopoMaps+ for route planning, and always download the route to my phone in advance). Thankyou!

Topo+ made this year’s PCT hike a complete success.. I was given responsibility for supporting several backpackers doing a SoCal section of the PCT. This involved daily travel to supply water and transport hikers to and from trail junctions and off trail camp sites. Without Topo+ this would have been impossible. Traveling the vast network of ATV trails was a success solely because I had Topo+ running as I was navigating. It proved a complete success in providing me with guidance on my own trail hiking too. I have never used trail mapping software before - google maps meets my daily needs so I was amazed and relieved at how intuitive the Topo+ software is to use. And the emailed user advice proved perfect. I recommend this app to everyone who wants an intuitive tool for planning and carrying out your travel adventures.

Best Topo app for iOS. This is better than Gaia or OnX. Very easy to use and intuitive. I used just the free version for a couple of years before getting Pro. It has everything you need, including placing your photos along your tracks. Sometimes the route editing gets tricky when editing a long route. But I haven’t seen a perfect editing tool from any of the apps. The developer is super responsive if you have questions.

Can’t add new waypoints. I feel like I’ve been duped. I purchased this app a couple years ago and paid to download the maps I need. Now the app is not allowing me to add new waypoints unless I upgrade to the pro version for $50 per year. This is a lot of money for a tour guide, yet all my precious waypoints that I need to do my job are in the app. What am I to do? I won’t upgrade this app, they will trick me again. When I purchased the app, I was never told the features I was paying for would be temporary. I no longer trust this company. I will not do business with them.. My other complaint is the lat/long coordinate formats. The degree symbol is not recognized when I manually add waypoints, so I have to convert them to decimal format which has been a real hassle in the future. Otherwise, until this recent software upgrade the app has worked great.

Topo Maps+. This a great hiking app. So much to offer. The app has the most trails of any app. Lots of maps to choose from. USGS maps to Appalachian Trail Maps. You can plan hiking trips and see what kind of elevation you will encounter. Later this year I will be going to New Mexico so I downloaded the Benchmark Maps which will be great use to me. If you take photos while your hiking they will appear on the trail. It even shows you what direction you took the picture. Finally great support from the designers of the app. They helped me a lot. I highly recommend this app.

All good but the map downloading. This is a great app with good selection of maps. My main reason for getting this app was for the offline map feature. I do a lot of exploring of logging roads, hiking trails, walking up streams and such so need maps viewable without cell signal. It works great...if you can get them to download. I was heading to the woods for a week and trying to grab the maps I wanted was one of the most frustrating things I have done in a while. The app crashes non-stop while trying to download. I zoomed way in to the smallest map quad to download and it crashes, tried one of the larger blocks of maps and it crashes. It will grab one map, maybe download 7 in a row then refuse any more and constantly crash. It closes the app and you have to start all ver finding the specific map to download. I have a newer iPhone and it’s current on updates, tons of free space and I’m on a fast WiFi connection. Doesn’t matter, crash, crash, crash! Seriously annoying. Long ago I bought another app called Topo Maps and downloaded hundreds of maps with no issue. I stopped have it but that app has very outdated maps and not near the features of Topomaps+ but dang to this day I can download any number of maps I want without my blood pressure rising!! Fix the downloading so I can give 5 stars!!!

A great tool for the prepared traveler.. I use Topo Maps + before, during, and after every trip to parts unknown. By downloading maps of the areas I expect to visit beforehand, I have a custom atlas at my fingertips—no cell signal or wi-fi needed. During the trip, I often know better than my Google- or Apple-Maps-using companions where we are. By dropping pins, I can chart my progress, see where I’ve been, and recall where I was after I return home. Great for road trips as well as hiking, bicycling, and the like. My only concern is that there doesn’t appear to be a way to export the data. As my iPhone 6 approaches end of useful life, I wonder how I’ll preserve the data. I should be able to migrate it to another device, but some sort of database export would be very welcome.

Very pleased. This will be my third year using Topo Maps+. I used the free version on a nine-day backpacking trip the first year and it worked fine. I’ve upgraded for the last two years, appreciating the extra detail and features given that much of our backpack trips are off trail. It’s fun to play with the maps ahead of the trip to see distances and elevation gains for different routes. I take a small charging block just in case, but even over 10-day trips, judicious use of the iPhone allowed us to refer to the maps whenever needed without power issues. I have been particularly impressed by the customer service the couple of times I have had questions. Responses have been prompt and very helpful.

GREAT CUSTOMER SUPPORT. I have been using this app for almost 2 years. I started with the free version, just tracking my horseback trail rides. Then I decided our favorite camp area had dozens of trails but no map to give other campers/riders. So, as a complete novice I took it upon myself to start building a map of all the areas horse/hiking trails. I don’t think Topo Maps+ was (originally) designed for the specific application, but the developers have really stepped up to help me accomplish this project. They are always quick to respond and very patient and helpful with my questions and the problems I encounter. They have also been very receptive to suggested updates that would help with my project, and ultimately be helpful with others using the app. Hopefully this app. will continue to grow and become even more robust and easy to use. Thanks

Super App and Outstanding Customer Service. This has been my go to app for several years. It has everything I need. Access to maps of all kinds, the ability to download for offline use, to track and trace your hike in all sorts of different ways. The user interface is very intuitive and the app has always been completely reliable. I use it primarily for hiking but also for running, biking, and even documenting sightseeing walks or drives when I travel. One of the things I like to do is to upload my hikes or travels to my computer which is easy to do, plus you can go the other direction and upload gpx or kml tracks into the app. It also gives you the opportunity for land ownership maps if you want to subscribe to it which I have found very useful. I love it! I am writing this review now because recently I had troubles with uploading some files to my computer and I sent them an email about it, figuring I would have to wait weeks or maybe longer. Instead I went out for a bike ride and when I got back, I had an email from them diagnosing the problem, fixing it, and even giving me a workaround for old files! That's the best customer service I have seen in years! So you can't go wrong with this app.

1 year in I’m still loving it!. It’s been a year now since I purchased the Topo app. I have to say, I’ve never felt more comfortable or received more support in any app. This is how all app developers should act. If you are looking for a map app which supports every imaginable option but does so with simplicity GET THIS APP. No, this is not a paid endorsement, these guys love what they do and do it very well. They use their own app, listen to feedback and are a always looking for ways to improve. Stephen’s e-mails provide great tips and keep you posted on the latest improvements. Way to go guys ... keep up the good work.

Devs stopped caring about UX and only push pro/maps. Before the negatives I do have to say this is the best app for its purpose that I’ve tried. They’ve done a good job but I’m disheartened by the promo mail and lack of updates. I’m still using the app regularly. There are numerous app problems I’ve had and features I’ve been missing going on like 2 years now. I have raised at least some of them more than once by email. The new UI is definitely on brand with Apple but the UX is a problem. Stephen would always answer mail which I appreciate but never seems to act on improving the app. Instead it’s a constant onslaught of emails pushing pro sales and new map packs. No doubt it’s impressive that he’s secured so many map providers, but I think improving the app itself is a hopeless idea at this point. I’m unsubscribing from their mail. Are more map packs really what people need? How about updated OSM data? Or non-frustrating route planning features? More stats? Double click and drag zoom? Map call outs that don’t lock the map view? I can go on. Basic UX

So convenient it’s ridiculous. I started using this app in Australia and I was sceptical about what I’d experience. I’ve been using it for almost a year now I’m really remote areas and I’m finding trails everywhere as soon as I hit regular hiking areas. I’ve also realised more recently that it has a whole bunch of features I didn’t notice at first like the ability to geo-tag photos and record trail progress. I now use it when I’m trailrunning to track elevation, speed and progress at the same time as checking I’m heading in the right direction. Naming and saving trails is also easy and quick. Just make sure you download all the maps of the area you are on your way to visit BEFORE you get there so that once you lose phone reception and the satellites kick in, you’ll have detailed maps for reference. 😉

Very disappointing. To those thinking about this app option: Don't spend your money here. Just do the free version if you must. 1. I Paid for High Resolution... & got nothing different. 2. Maps take waaaaay toooo long to load (you don't want to wait 2 minutes just for a single view to load do you?) My connection is plenty fast enuff - maybe there's a server problem?. To the developers of this app: you have got to lift your speeds and map detail quality.

Excellent. Great App

Subscription?. Why can’t I have a perpetual licence? Why don’t you have a perpetual licence so I don’t have to pay every year to cache some maps?

Trail over a cliff?. This App saved the day. A while back, hiking in fresh snow, I was following cairns and found myself at the top of a cliff. Not a person within 100 kilometres. Looking back and trying to discover where I went wrong I realised I was not going to find the buried trail. Then I remembered I had loaded this App in my phone. No service there but the maps were all there and the GPS placed me on the map. As I zoomed in I found the trail I was hiking. That was unexpected as it was a rather esoteric trail that not many know about. I was able to immediately find my way back to the trail and relied on the App, rather than the cairns, for the rest of the trip. Thanks!

Not enough of Aus. It looks like a really solid tool for people who live in USA, Canada and NZ; but if you want to use it outside of those countries you’re stuck with the world map. Unfortunately there just is not enough landmarks and features on the world map to make it a reliable navigational aid. I’ll happily revisit this review if the developer can partner with an Australian map provider.

New trail maker. I have been using topo maps for about 8-9 mths now and it has been an excellent land navigation tool and a very ease app to play with. I am a member of the Phuket HHH and this is reflected in my nickname. I love walking and running and especially finding new exciting places for my running club to explore. I am one of many who set the trails for others to follow. Topo maps has made my work in the field and back on the desktop so much easier. I plan to use for many years to come and look forward to more great ideas and upgrades. Thanks topo maps, its awsome. Just an update. I am a regular user of this awsome app and each time I use it I find new ways to make my hiking experience better. Keep the good trails coming

Doesn’t cut it for serious back country. Ive tried and tried with this app. Excessive battery use Errors is renewing map passes Tracking drop outs when it matters Poor map coverage for places that are not the usa. Basically if you are serious about safety in tracking back country in all conditions, try something else.

Get the upgrade. If you plan to do any hiking or hunting, get the upgraded detailed maps. This is by far the best map app I have used.

Love it.. Very easy to use. Many different options to make each map individual. I can also share by importing and exporting my maps to my husband. I'd like more icons and to be able to change the icon colours, but that doesn't detract from how great an app it is. I love that you can download your maps for off grid/ off line use later.

Powerful Tool!. Running the pro version and it’s worth every dollar. Invest the time to learn the nuances and you’ll be amazed. Support is stellar. It’s abundantly clear the Topo Maps + developers are passionate about their cool creation; keep up the excellent work! You’re helping us stay safe as we explore❤️

Great app. This app is extremely well designed and executed. But beyond that, the support and ongoing communication and thought-leadership from the creators is outstanding.

Topo Maps+. This app gives you all you need to enjoy your trails. It is very well designed, easy and intuitive you use. I’m using in all my trails, specially to track new routes (at least to me). The support is always there if you have questions. Fernando Canada, BC

Starting out. This app is one of the cleanest, easiest to learn and use interfaces out there. Easy to import and export to Google Earth kmz's. Simple to record tracks and low Resolution maps are adequate for most activities, so little need to upgrade.

Great maps and hopefully with long term support.. Have used many gps apps and have lost many gpx tracks from other apps that won’t update to the new IOS Systems for iPhones. It’s very frustrating. I hope that this app continues support for its users. On that note, I am extremely happy with the quality of maps even though I do not have the premium edition.

No Canada map. I don’t see map for Canada. Why is this in Canadian App Store?

Awesome, very accurate app. I had downloaded this app quite a while ago and didn’t really have any reason to use it. The other day however we did and we are very thankful for it working as well as it did. Living in Whistler and being in the back country on almost daily basis there are many apps out there which can guide you around, None of them did as much of a good job as Topo maps. My son (lots of experience, 16 years old) got lost on a Back Country trip with his brother and me. Trying several apps which could not help I resourced to topo maps. Within minutes we could find his exact location which enabled us to rescue him after a couple of hours unharmed and in good spirits. This app is worth every penny in my opinion.

Simply Outstanding. I'm a landscape photographer and time lapse enthusiast. I work with three topographic maps apps, several star constellation apps, and The Photographers Ephemeris. I didn't like the idea of paying for maps at first, but man alive! It unlocks so much, the maps are by far the clearest I've worked with, period. I do hiking, so knowing distance by tracing, the elevation changes I'll have to do, or when I roam to with the ability to trace my own route? Brilliant! It's so legible, clean, and easy to use. Sometimes I go though narrow breaks in thick brush or fences that have fallen, this allows me to retrace and slip through the same passages. You can trace a route, download maps for that trace, you can see elevation by sliding through the trace, it's just astounding. When I went down to Mexico and Arizona, I precached my maps via airport wifi, and hotel wifi, and the moment I lost phone service, I had all my maps ready to go! And GPS location isn't relevant to phone service, so even abroad I have maps. Don't let the bad reviews sway you, the basic maps are great, but dropping 15 bucks gets you a dozen different type of topographic maps with different representations and different legends, and incredibly clear concise maps. Bravo!!

Bought the map pass but still no high resolution maps. Ripoff!. May have just wasted $20.99. Paid for 6 months map pass but when I try to download a high resolution map it tells me I need a map pass to do so. Not impressed!

Nah...don't waste your time. Skip this one... Loads very slow and not much detail on the map! Guess they want you to buy the full version

Hawg. Great prog have used it for everything for the last year and a half. It’s everything I need keep up the good work

Poor privacy policy. Too much data is collected - other apps that are similar in function don’t collect identifiable user data.

Snowshoeing in Yellowstone. Made good use of the app to plan and track a recent snowshoeing trip in Yellowstone National Park. I now use it for ice fishing!

Waste of money. Dose not worth any money , I did pay for one year for height resolution and I can't see any thing all blurry, you can see in the google map much better and clear, just waste of money

Hmmm.... Looks like it would be great, if it didn't take so long to load. Fix this problem & you'll have a stellar app on your hands.

.. …

Great!. Excellent app, amazing for offline use. Great combination to Foreflight for VFR. Would be nice to download more than 20 tiles at a time though.

I don’t get it. Other than looking at where you are on a map, I don’t get what the point is. Maybe you have to upgrade to see features, but it isn’t obvious what you will get if you pay.

What happened to the Topo map sheets?. I have used this app since its inception and have found it incredibly useful for BC’s remote back country. But recently I’m unable to find and download the topographical map sheets as my base map. These maps were easy to read and accurate. What is available now (ESRI) is pixilated and map labels disappear when trying to zoom into them to be able to read them! It makes the maps incredibly hard to read and use. What made this app stand out from the crowd of other map apps and why I happily paid a subscription was the base layer Canada Topo map. Can it be brought back please?

Pretty good Canadian coverage. Compared to the other popular apps out there that I’ve used I think this app has decent coverage here in BC. Canada is a small market for this type of app but we’ve got a ton of trails that aren’t shown on other apps. Also, their support is second to none.

Great but.... Good app, but the “high res” maps for my area are the same as the low resolution maps.

Love it!!. For actually getting out into the backcountry, this is an amazing app! I am only using the free version, but even that is serving the purpose amazingly well. It has pretty much every trail in our area and all the features I want in a trail app. Keep up the excellent work!!

A MUST HAVE OUTDOORSMAN APP. I've been a grateful user, for a few years now👍 I continuously travel, play and explore, in "no cell reception" areas...with confidence, thanks to Topo Maps+. Not only can I see exactly where I am and need to go (thanks to the offline/airplane mode GPS)...but best of all, a person can set waypoints and record routes (to favourite fishing spots, campsites, points of interest..etc)!!!!!! In the city or wherever your curiosity takes you...Topo Maps+ will add to life's adventure 👍👍. Thank-You, Topo Maps+!!

Poor. Useless, only shows images from far out and then makes you pay them if you want to zoom in!

Great app, but most recent release freezing. I've been using this app for all my hiking the past year, it's served me very well, has led to lots I new exploration and feeling more confident in my location. The current update is constantly freezing... Would appreciate getting whatever bug there is worked out.

Outstanding. For an app it has some of the highest end features you would only see on a pc,and not all on one program. Great maps and easy to navigate. It's the only app I run now.

NFG. 1 start is far too much! Won’t allow downloading, even after buying paying for 3 months

Amazing. A really amazing app. It is astounding how many relatively unknown local trails are in its database. This app is made me take my phone into the backcountry.

Great App and Amazing Support. I love using this app for my outdoor adventures. No cell service required! I love being able to switch between different map views. I had a recent issue with the app and the developers worked with me and had a fix within days of first reporting the issue! Great app with amazing support!

Not good. I gave it a good honest try because I really wanted to love it. The app though is very slow. I paid for the high resolution, waited well over 12 hours for 9 squares to download (tried different wifi, even off wifi) and then when I was out of service and needed them they suddenly were not downloaded. Also doesn't know very popular locations. Maybe more suited for the USA. Hopefully with time it'll improve but for now.

Used to be great. Theis app was by far the best Topo map app, now they require a monthly subscription for the app to be useful offline. Big disappointment as I have many routes and waypoint saved over the years.

Used the app since 2018, Awesome. I started using the free version of the app in 2018, then add a map pass and soon upgraded to the Pro version. All through that time they have been making changes and fixing things that didn’t go quite right, but always open to suggestions to make it better for us out on the trails. I use it while riding my ATV, making maps of the trail in our area of Alberta Canada. I also use it while hiking the desert trails, in California, where we spend our time in the winter. This app gives me the confidence to get out and do the hiking or quading, as it provides all that I need, to know exactly where I am, while on or off line. I have tried many different apps over the years, but this one stands out over the others, as it was obviously designed by people that use the app themselves. If you use the outdoors, you should have this app on your phone. Murray

Great app. This is a great app and the maps are very accurate..

Great topo app. I have been using this for over a yr now. It is been easy to use and extremely accurate. Earlier in the summer, I was looking to get on the PCT with a friend. We were going to start where the PCT crossed a dirt road. We weren't sure if it was going to be posted. As we approached the crossing, I opened the app and told my friend who was driving to stop when I saw the trail cross the road on the app. Looked out the window, and their was the trail. It is also quicker an more accurate than my Garmin GPS. GREAT FIND. M

Yeah, no thanks. I tried out the app for a few days but ended up deleting it. In order to be truly useful you have to get the paid version. $25 for 3 months? Are you out of your mind? There may be some people who are lucky enough to be able to go hiking once a month or so but most of us have jobs and lives and we’re lucky to get out for a real hike twice a year. You might want to think about revising your pricing model.

By hiker for hikers. I love this app. It actually solves real scenarios. These guys, unlike all those other app makers, expect that while in the back country you will not have internet access. So offline capabilities are built in and taken seriously. And they are always making improvements to make it better and to educate users on safety outdoors. So it’s more than an app, it’s a community.

Older edition of USGS maps. I’m not sure why, but the Arizona USGS topo maps are the older editions. There is a 2004 edition that has the road numbers printed on the maps as well as updated location of trails and springs, which is important in a state with limited water. Also, some of the topo maps for sections of the John Muir Trail have meters printed on the maps instead of feet. I would give this app a 5 star review if the maps had more current and accurate data.

The worst way to download maps!. The only thing they care about is that you pay the premium. You’re almost forced to do it, otherwise, you’ll to download tiny squares off the map. I was trying to download Yellowstone national park’s map, and I cant even tell if I’m downloading all of the needed parts. You want an easier way? You have to pay to ZOOM OUT! You’re much better off with google maps. For the dev team, you could have tried to sell different patterns or maybe add ads on the app. Restricting a main basic function of a map app is definitely the worst way to make money off of people.

Great customer service. I had a problem with maps being slow to load. I sent one quick email to customer service ( which was easy to do in the app) and they responded right away with a quick solution. I would definitely recommend this app. I have really enjoyed it.

Great App!. Interface is intuitive, customer support is excellent, and innovation is ongoing. The developer definitely likes what he is doing and it shows! I like the ease of making my own routes or using the existing routes and trails. Being able to print paper maps is huge as well.

Downloading maps painfully slow. While the app is good, downloading high resolution maps is completely unacceptably slow. I’m on Wi-Fi and have a 900 mbps connection and it takes multiple hours to download 5.3Gb of map data. At my high speed Wi-Fi, this should take less than 1 hour. I’ve downloaded 5-6Gb of data on my phone and laptop easily within 20 minutes many times. I’m disappointed with how extremely slow downloads on this app take and this unlikely going to renew my subscription when it expires.

Not worth it.. I paid 50 bucks for a year of this and honestly do not see what I paid for. I liked this application more than others because I felt it was easier to find trail options and locations for a complete beginner. I paid the fifty because I tho it would be better or ‘more’ and it was a total let down. I find this is not the first map I go to when I am out on trails or in a park and for the money I thought it would be more than other apps but the free version was just as good as the other apps. Unless you need hundreds of map overlays for some reason I personally see no point and def feel like I got ripped off.

Disappointed. I have been using this app since 2014 and the free version always provided me what I needed. I am disappointed that what needed it for no longer is available on the free version. This makes it harder for people of all economic status to stay safe out in the back country. Also, I know many people who are only paying 20$ a year and the get ability to trace out and plan routes! Why is this option not available for everyone?! Please give more options rather than 50$ for a pro version when people don’t need every option that comes with it.

Bring back the download option for the free version!. I used to use this all the time, it was an amazing app with decent resolution offline maps available to download in the free version. But a recent update ruined this, now you can only download maps in the costly pay version. Extremely disappointed the developers are putting profits over people. Bring back the free USGS topo, those are open access maps anyways! Let users pay for fancy features, just give us free-version users the ability to download simple topo maps.

Confidence builder .. Hey there I’m a 62 yr old. not tech savvy at all , but this app will no doubt get you back to the truck ! And that means a ton when your not a young guy , if spun around you don’t have ability to hike to top of a ridge to get your bearings! Can’t speak highly enough about customer service they respond fast when you have a question!

Great app. I downloaded almost every hiking app I could and tested them all. This is by far my favorite. The free version provided some trails not found anywhere else and I loved the draw route feature. I’ll definitely be upgrading to the full version at the beginning of the next hiking season.

Great map app. I am a fluent outdoorsman, I hike, bike, raft and kayak whitewater rivers and creeks and also like exploring in general outdoors.. this is a great Topo map app. I also like that I can download maps for offline use in case I don’t have cell reception so I love it so far. Would like to see what the paid premium version is like when I can afford it.

Missing key functions for Apple Watch. This is truly a great app with great functions and Topo maps for the iPhone and Apple Watch, but there are so many key features needed on the watch app. The watch app does not allow you to change your GPS coordinate format to another format like GMRS or anything other than the default LAT/LONG. Additionally, I wish there was also a way to type in a coordinate you need to go to on the fly on the watch app and then navigate to it. Again, this function should also support multiple coordinate formats to support military and other government agencies on the go.

Best Topo Map App ever!. Why? Because (hill shading) is offered for USGF Cal Topo Maps for half the price of Gaia GPS, this is extremely beneficial if you’re doing off trail cross country exploration. Purchasing the Map Pass is highly worth it! Another plus, is that their customer service is very helpful! Don’t waste your time with other apps!

Best Hiking App with Topo maps.. Great all in one app that manages to be great at planning your next hike, hunting trip, 4x4 adventure and more. No need to buy multiple apps just get this one and you can download the specific Topo maps for your destination. I personally use it for hiking in the beartooth’s and scouting out public/private land for hunting in Montana.

Very impressive and great developers. I got this app for my Apple Watch for hiking, but also to view aviation charts, initially it wouldn’t view them properly, I reached out to the support and Danny was right there answering question, he found the issue and pushed a update out, wish all app teams were this “on it” A+

Best Topo App I've used. This app allows me to use my legacy iPhone as a fully featured GPS. The maps are update regularly and the developer is readily available to address any questions or issues. Being able to download and print any number of topo maps is worth the price of admission. This has replaced all other mapping software I previously used.

Invaluable tool on our hikes!. Downloaded this app early this summer and it has gotten us out safely on a few close calls. We have barely touched the surface on its capabilities. Just upgraded for another year and look forward to learning all the little tips and tricks on one of our favorite apps. Just remember to plan and download before you get off line.

Excellent customer service.. I bought this app to use with big areas stitch together for back country trailer camping. We bought all the Western benchmark books hoping to use them together seamlessly. Although it hasn’t worked exactly as we hoped the developers are working with us to improve it. That’s excellent customer service if you ask me. I’m sureThe app will do the job in the end

I like leading the pack. This is a great tool to have, especially if you’re planning adventure trips outdoors ,I’m able to plan are route and lead are group , I feel confident with this to get to are destination and I get to lead our group in ste SXS and not eat anybody’s dust and while I’m doing this, I’m also recording and stored the tracks in route folder I also uses on walks to see how many miles I put in Tony

Topo Map+ Pro. Great app gets me everywhere I want to go skiing in the back and side country. Easy to download to or from my iPad (sync either way) for planning routes and debriefing or my PC & overlay to GOOGLE EARTH Easy to send my location with pictures, it syncs my pictures to an exact location and time when I took that picture including which way I was aiming camera highly recommend this app

Just wow!. This is the first product I’ve come across that gives me the same sense of discoverability and wonder as looking at a paper map. The Natural Atlas view just nails it - I wish I could rate this six stars because it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for over the last few years. The balance of detail shown at different levels and the choice of cartographic colours and symbols is absolutely perfect. Thank you!

Map. When I first got this app I was like I’m not sure if I’m going to like this because it had a lot on it. It was even a little hard to get downloaded. I email them and they done a step by step to help me and I got it done. I was browsing through it and then we went on our trip ride and I loved it. It had a lot on it but it was so helpful. It even got us through trails that we wasn’t sure which way to go. I so glad I got this app.

Hiking. I use it to track my hikes and search and rescue training with my dog. It has been helpful with showing the area I covered and the distance I went. Wondering, can it be linked to a gps for a dog? To track where my dog went while searching for missing subjects both in training and on actual searches. This would show exactly how much of the area was covered. Would be very helpful for search work.

Great app and service. Have been using this app for several years around the world. Always found maps and trails wherever I traveled and found it all easy to use. The latest update caused the app to crash on my iPad. I sent the developer the diagnostics. He was unable to resolve the issue quickly so upgraded me to the pro edition, no charge, for a year. Problem solved.

Best free app for hiking. I love this app and have been using it for years. This app is simple to use and comes with a lot of function at no cost to you. I use it to trace potential routes, print out maps, and track myself while hiking. I can also use it to send those maps to other people. With the update, im a little jelly and may splurge for the new elevation overlay and offline elevation measurement. This app has never given me a reason to not pay for it.

Great Maps Great customer service. Ive used this app for 3 years for hiking and off road motorcycle navigation and it is great. I use it on my laptop to plan routes and iphone to execute the route. Recently i had an issue renewing the subscription portion of the app. It seems it got confused between the laptop and iPhone. I contacted the developer (Danny) and with in a few days it was sorted out. Fanatic.

Unstuck. My error....... I downloaded a hunting district overlay from our Fish wildlife and Parks. The map covered the area I was scouting and I couldn’t find my landmarks. In and out of service, I reached out Stephen with TOPO. In a short while he walked me through some solutions. Problem solved I continued my trek with added confidence. Any questions I’ve submitted were given timely attention. Thanks for backing me up. RG

Safety is a map, with you on it!. I love this app! Hi resolution GPS maps you can download and track your location offline. Contour lines show the landscape from a birds view. Track your speed, distance, elevation gain and routes. Bring a backup battery and never be lost. We use this app literally every weekend, and it’s a life saver.

Best thing I ever bought!. I thought I was lost, and then along cane this wonderful app for we, the lost, to find our way and have a little adventure! Never a hassle to contact the folks and get immediate response. Constant updates and better yet, real working applications of the features. From my easy chair, or in the rough, I can travel the world! Thanks Topo Maps!

Custom trails and waypoints. It would be great for the purposes of fitness to be able to make custom waypoints to Taylor the miles someone walks. Also, if you chose a fitness application to merge with so someone can track their fitness goals would be wonderful as well. If you want to write that bit of computer script on your own, that would be great. But I recommend using a fitness app you like as a template.

Awesome map app!. The new game management unit boundaries are awesome! Thanks!!! The selection of maps is incredible. Integration with open street map trails is amazingly handy! Ability to download all of the map types for off line access. Easily syncs across devices and great UI. I moved over all my waypoints and trails and deleted all the others! Keep up great work!

Great app for GDMBR Great divide mountain bike route. I use this app for riding sections of the GDMBR, very useful for elevation, distance , forest road details, with many offline map options. You just import or create the routes prior to the riding, then download offline maps and as many detailed roads, maps, as you like Takes time to become familiar but well worth it.

Awesome App. I never wrote reviews because most of the time I’m too lazy. But this app rocks, this does exactly what I want: to have a wrist gps via Apple Watch. Awesome choices of map styles, tons to choose from. Just make sure to have the watch app have the same map style that you downloaded or it will not show up. Also tech support for this app is friendly and fast. Definitely would recommend!

Excellent Program. If you go Pro (and you should) you’ll have access to all kinds of maps and other features that make this a stellar program. Tech support has been excellent answering my questions within 24 hours of submitting them. Online video tutorials are great.

Essential tool. A few minor bugs, but overall reliable and essential tool. Download maps in advance and locate your position anywhere your phone's gps works (almost everywhere, even remote places where there is no phone service.) I hike/backpack off trail frequently and have not been lost once in 2 years (several hundred miles) of using this tool. I still bring paper maps and a compass out of habit, but very rarely use them now.

Wonderful App. Have been using the app for about a month now and have been very pleased with it so far. My only minor complaint is that for what ever reason, it will not detect pictures that were taken while I was recording a hike and there is no way (that I can figure out) to manually select them and assign them to a track. A manual picture selection tool would be nice. Besides that, great app.

Great Free App!. I’m not going to cover all the great features of the free version of this app because the hundreds of 5-Star reviews already have. I’m simply going to mention the two reasons my rating is only 4-stars: 1) No map legend. Either that or it is so hidden I can’t find it 2) A little disappointed with the map pass. After using the free version on a recent outdoor trip in Ontario, Canada (and very impressed) I decided to spend the money and pay for a map pass. I thought the more detailed maps would have additional information. So far however, the only difference I notice is the graphics are sharper when zoomed it. Yet in the free mode, even at low-res they were already totally usable. So not sure the pass was worth it for me. All in all a great free app I would highly recommend.

Great app but ..... I’m a moderately active day hiker in the Adirondack area. I appreciate the improvements Over the last several years but a 50% price increase out of the blue is too much like “big pharma” for me. I received a reply from the developer that the app apparently made it clear that after a trial period, the price would increase. My bad if so but again and with due respect I can’t justify the cost/benefit for me and will Not renew for the Pro

The Best There Is. I have tried every other mapping program to help guide me in the Rocky Mountains and this one is the best. The subscription is completely worth it and the developer response is top notch. This app is especially handy for trail runners like myself that are trying to move quickly through the mountains. A lot of times I start on unfamiliar trails in the dark and have to go purely off this app. Easy to use, easy to share and absolutely love it!

Great app. Hats off to the developer. Multiple map layers, contour lines, hi-Rez maps, excellent direction and elevation tracker, easy waypoint system: what's not to love. Best part is that you can download maps from your device and use offline with gps even if your cell service is out of range. The pricing for the pro features are excellent because they respond well with the year long or just seasonal outdoorsmen.

Great customer service. Have been using this app for a few years now and always been happy with it. Just had an issue where my iPad and IPhone were not syncing and then my login stopped working. Contacted support by email and had a response in an hour or two. Spent most of the following day emailing back and forth with Danny and now everything is working as it should. That is dedicated and friendly support.

Awesome!. I mainly got this to use with my mac for creating routes/tracks. Both the iOS and Mac versions are awesome! Very impressed and I’ve used many other apps. Service is top notch as well. I had a few questions after purchasing the Mac pro version and got a response within a couple minutes...wow just awesome!

Best app for hunting. This is the best app for hunting..not only for topo maps but aerials too. I’ve had a few issues and whenever I’ve sent in an email to support, Stephen the developer always gets back to me promptly. I subscribe every year and it’s well worth it. I love the caching feature. I’ve cached all my hunting areas and can view maps even without service.

Great app!. This is simple to use and very accurate. Nothing is full proof, but I hunt and hike deep in the Allegheny National Forest (Northwestern Pennsylvania) and this app has helped me to navigate back to my truck numerous times with no issues. It’s perfect for marking areas of interest and recording tracks to follow up on later. I prefer the topography maps as they label areas and for $30 a year, you can have access to high resolution maps. Can’t beat it! I would recommend this app to anyone who loves to just wander in the forest. Also, Steve is great at answering any questions, as I’m new to the smartphone and he was extremely patient with my relentless questioning Have fun out there Matt Woodhouse

Have to pay. Downloaded the app initially to use on my watch, worked perfectly for having a non cellular Apple Watch. I could easily download the map onto it, and if I ever went running without my phone, I would know where I was, very helpful. One day I open the app on my watch and it tells me to pay for a pro version. Just another app trying to steal money from me, can’t exactly pay the price it’s asking. Great app a few months ago, garbage now cause all it wants is your money, doesn’t care if you can pay or not.

Vanishing features. The free version of the map used to be great. I have no problem paying for advanced features such as high resolution maps, but taking away features users are used to & rely on is sad. With the latest update I can no longer trace routes, add waypoints or print maps. My biggest complaint is not having the print & share option. I never want to rely completely on technology & believe everyone should be able to print maps. Even a low resolution paper map is better than nothing for an emergency backup.
