Leonardo - Photo Layer Editor App Description & Overview

What is leonardo - photo layer editor app? Universal Photo Editor with support for Layers, Selection, Masks and of course filters, effects and other tools.

An editor so powerful that you could do almost anything that you thought was possible only on a desktop.

√ True layer support, just like photo editing on desktop.
√ Selection. You can select an area and work with filters and effects only on that area.
√ Layers can be masked. And not just with brush, you get a whole set of mask editing tool.
√ Layers support all that a true layer app should. Blending, Opacity, Transform, Duplicate, Merge and flatten.
√ The app is so fast that most of the operations are real time. You don't have to wait while adjusting the sliders.
√ Handles Exif, IPTC, Geotag etc. You can even edit Geotag and IPTC.
√ Exports PSD with layers. And of course exports JPEG and PNG too.
√ Copy/Paste with selections and masks.
√ Undo/Redo.
√ Powerful filters you will hardly find on many other apps.
√ 25 preset photo effects.
√ Tools like Crop, Straighten, Clone stamp, color gradient, paint brush, red eye brush and add text etc.
√ You can save your projects with all layers and selections preserved and work on them back and forth.
√ 18 video tutorials.
√ Resolution up to 4096x4096 on iPad3 and above and on iPhone max resolution is equal to the resolution of the built-in camera.

And yes, it runs on both iPhone and iPad.

Note that reduce noise filter is available only on iPhone 5 and iPad3 and above.

To get maximum resolution you will need to...
1. Go to home screen.
2. Press on the "?" button.
3. Under resolution, select the max.

Leonardo - Photo Layer Editor Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Too fantastic to be free. If you know Photoshop, you can do anything with this. That it's mobile is beyond amazing. I'm glad it's free, but can't figure why it is. It's that good. I use it every day on an iPad, and it's why I no longer bother with my desktop or laptop. The more you know, the more you'll get out of it. It's got layers, pro tools, effects, filters, press tools, and an astoundingly small footprint. My biggest fear is that a big competitor will buy and bury it like they've done with so many innovative apps they couldn't beat.

Nice but old, needs update. The app works nice, but Dropbox integration doesn’t work, Dropbox updated a few months ago and this application did not.

Turn off stock photos, Not Wanted. Pinned to top of photo library access. Much too easy to click on. I would like to opt out of this.

My most used app!. I have been using Leonardo for 3 or so years; It's the closest thing to Photoshop I have found; I recommend completely. However, this app either needs to connect the app sandbox to iCloud, or give us a way to Airport them out. I strongly dislike how your sandbox works, where our projects are held to work on. Sure, I can backup to iTunes, but only in a format which cannot be edited inside Leonardo. I had to reinstall iOS, and I lost some images I was working on because I forgot to upload to iTunes. My fault, but it surely would like to have an easier way to save. I suspect I know why you don’t, and it’s probably a lot of work, but I’d pay more for an app with a better way to save photos. NONETHELESS, this is a fantastic app!

Please Update!. In desperate need of an update. I used this all the time (masking, many layers, amazing effects) to great satisfaction. Now on my X, pictures import with low resolution and super blurry. Please fix it because I love this app! Thank you.

Does Almost Everything. This is an outstanding retouching tool that does virtually everything Photoshop does in a far less cumbersome way. Two wishes and one heads up: I wish you could control saturation levels by color in an absolute manner – for example, allowing us to pull back some of the yellows without increasing the blues. Second, there does not appear to be a healing tool. Finally a heads up: go into your settings before you do anything and change your resolution to Very High, or you will do all your work on a picture only to find that it is been saved in a low res. form. Terrific app; highly recommend.

Should be Included with every iPad!. I'm giving a new review since Leonardo is now os10 savvy and I recently got a iPad mini 4. I mention the two items together because the mini 4 has replaced much older iPads I had and it has a far better camera than the older iPads... but though the camera is quite good, it's still far from perfect. This is where Leonardo comes in. It is the perfect complimentary app to quickly and drastically improve the iPad's photos. It works so perfectly/easily tweaking the iPad images that it could be considered the defacto photo app for this device. The quick results are so impressive that I am getting far better looking images than phones which include superior cameras. If it only had a batch setting, this would be beyond ideal! ------------- Original write up... 'Near Perfect Image App' Though it lacks a few features which I have to revert to another app to utilize, Leonardo has such a huge assortment of professional image editing options, it has become the final defacto app for completing image edits. Puts Adobe's iPad arsenal to shame.

I guess the free version resolution is still crippled beyond usefulness. Used to be great but with only one resolution available, “small”, since an update a few years ago, everything imports horribly low res. I’m assuming this is just on the free version to get users to upgrade. But it renders it completely useless. Plus, as mentioned, merge down function has been broken for ages. Merging layers from layer opacity adjustment menu deletes bottom layer. You can leave that and flatten, which works, but if you don’t want to flatten all layers you’re out of luck. Dev never responded to email. Oh well. In the trash.

Very good editor. I borderline on 5 or 4 stars because this is almost a perfect graphics editor. For the price, it is the best app I’ve found. I’ve used it to create multiple collages, put fire into my fireplace, create funny picture edits for my kids, and more. Tools available are so much like Photoshop and I can do it all from my iPad. Things that would make this a perfect score: ability to have more layers (it maxes out somewhere above 20 so who needs 20 separate layers, but I did last week in a massive collage. I tried to work around the layer issue with merge down but it is a quirky merge or I just don’t understand it. Also, the ability to move part of an image seems basic but I can’t figure out how to float the selection and move part of a layer elsewhere or better yet make a new layer out of the selection. A workaround I have is to duplicate the layer and crop it to the piece that I want. Very extremely cool app! Thank you! I needed something with the power of GIMP but on an iPad and I’ve used this now for 2+ years and love it.

Missing projects after iPhone XI Pro restore. Oct 2019: the projects started in iPhone X did not transfer to new phone! No way to share PSD with laters & masks from device to device. May 2018 review: On iPhone X (&later) the Camera Fill shutter button is covered by other tools. App needs to fix screen layout. Missing help on how to select colors from any image (eye dropper tool). Confusing to apply effect with checkmark but other places user double taps screen. Really? Earlier Review: Leonardo is a big app packed with features and effects. Enjoying learning to use Layers, Selections & Masks. Glad it got Aug 2018 update that fixed PSD export to Dropbox.

Please fix the app!!. I bought this app because all my graphic designer friends told me how great of an app it is and they even let me try it out on their phone but unfortunately since I bought it (about 3 months ago) it’s had a bug where the entire app is LOW QUALITY (BLURRY) please fix it. I loved this app when I was given the chance to actually SEE WHAT I’M DOING !! I would’ve given 5 stars but then again I can’t see what I’m doing so you get 3. Would’ve been 4 stars but I Emailed whoever’s email was linked to the app and didn’t get a reply so I was forced to come here so PLEASE FIX THIS AMAZING APP!!

Go to Photo App. Takes a bit more time to learn but once you do it will do about anything you ask.

Best PS like app, and I tried them all. Amazing app better than any other photo editing app very responsive . Extensive amount of tools at your disposal. Extremely smooth 👍👍👍👍👍 Excellent export format option

Update pls?. This app is so comfortable to use. I’ve been using this app for about 4-5 years and I love it but all my photos are blurry on the iPhone X, so it’s hard to work with. I’ve grew so much with this app and I hope to still use it! Just that small fix would be amazing!!!!

No longer updated. I’d used and loved this app for years, but there appears to be no support for more recent iOS devices (and it hasn’t been updated in many months). More to the point, the iPhone XS can only import/export photos at the app’s lowest possible resolution, which means that it no longer serves any practical purpose for me.

It used to be great. Great photo editing app but since I updated to the latest OS and got an iPhone X, I can’t select the quality to be higher than small which makes it useless for my application. I sent a message to customer support a couple months ago and never heard back. Please update the app!!

Great, but needs improvement. - No discernable support contact - "Merge down" function is broken, deletes bottom image + Comparable to a desktop photo editor, unlike many other iOS "photo editor" apps that can only apply filters - Working/edit preview is in low res, but final image maintains full quality, so it is difficult to do anything but simple edits - [REMOVED IMPORTANT FEATURE] The eye dropper tool is missing! How can I pick colours from the current image on screen now?

Best app. I’ve used this app for years for multiple sports accounts on Instagram and have had work reposted by NFL and NBA players and teams. This app is easily the best editing app on the App Store and way better than SuperImposeX, so I just wish they would focus on this app more. I used this app on an IPhone 6s for almost 3 years and had no problems, but when I updated to an IPhone XS the screen gets all blurry when you’re using the app. This app is amazing so I just wish they would fix this! They haven’t updated it in over a year so maybe it just doesn’t work with this type of phone, but I really wish they would fix this bug so I could get back to using it the way I used to. But definitely worth the money!

Excellent all-purpose photo editing app!. Leonardo does everything! Crop, editing tools, masking, filters, color, overlays, mirror and reflect, effects, and much, much more—all contained within a simple, easy-to understand user interface. Thanks for the recent update! Highly recommend Leonardo!

Definitely best one on App Store. I'm tried a lot of them, and this is crazy powerful. All kinds of color manipulation, effects, and more. It's the closest thing to real desktop Photoshop I've seen on mobile.

Unreal - full blown PS 5.0 on a phone!!. Stunning, this is by far the greatest photo app I've ever seen for a mobile. Wish there were a sixth star I could give it. Very powerful.

The best photo editor so far. Leonardo is the most powerful photo editor for iPad. The interface is too stylized and you need to get used to it. However, its ability to work with layers and apply effects is unique. Deserves 5 stars hand down!

Stay Away til Update. This used to be my go to photo editing app. It seems there’s been no update in over a year and without doing so, this app is basically worthless. I bring in images to edit and the they are very blurry. It was fine on my old phone, but on my X it’s not even worth using it if it were a free trial. Don’t get suckered, wait for an update or stay away.

Amazing. By far the best PhotoShop type app I have used on the iPad/iPhone. Give it a try you will not be disappointed. Update: deleted nearly all the competitors.

Questions. Hi. Love the app but have lost work in progress during upgrades. Is there any plan to store files through upgrades? Like Procreate does? Also any way to sync projects between iPhone and iPad versions? Thanks

Leonardo. I like this app it’s very useful. I took away a star. Because they automatically have GEODATA checked. I didn’t notice at first, but always uncheck it. Developer, please remove this altogether. It’s totally giving out personal location and other information.

Simply Amazing!. Once you learn how to use the program, watch the tutorials and play with it. You see how in depth it is, from layers, to masking, and much more. It's like Pixlr Editor on your iPad.

I don't need Photoshop on my PC anymore!. Need update for importing the PSD files. It crash in import Yep this app is so great that I don't use photoshop unless I need 16MP or above multi layers photo edit. It is great for intensive edited 8MP photos. I knocked 1 star because some tool have bug and operability issues that can be improved. The user interface is great for the mobile screens even for the SE, love the brush remain the same screen size when you zoom in or out. Keep up the good work!

Dosent work. Hey, I have a iPhone 6 and it's up to date, I woke up and tried to make an edit, I finished the edit and tried to export it to my photos, it says "done" but is never saved into my photos, I've tried everything from restarting my phone to deleting and reinstalling the app, I'm getting annoyed and thinking this app is a waste of money and time, if anybody can help me please right back. Sincerely, Best_gfx

Update?. I really enjoy the layout and workflow of this app more than the other layering/masking apps available. It's intuitive and fun to work with. I would love it even more, use it all the time, and give it 5 stars if all the tools worked. The smudge tool and a few of the other tools and features do not save. They look like they're working and the image looks good after hitting "apply", but then they disappear in the saved image and in the flattened image. Frustrating to spend a lot of time getting something just right and then having all that work disappear. I've spent hours trying to figure out what's going on thinking I wasn't doing something in the right order -- watching and reading tutorials and asking people I know who work with the app if they have been able to get certain features to work. Nada. I finally realized that these features just don't work right now and that the app may need an update. I'm very much hoping that this app will be kept "alive". It's really a beauty when all the features work.

Great app but needs help with exporting pictures. The app is great but when you export a photo to your phone the quality is greatly reduced and most times now my pictures saved look nothing like they do on the apps my guess is some compression technique is going wrong or the resolution output to the phone is off. Please fix.

@_spaceer_ on insta. So I got this app for making edits and I honestly can’t think of anything terrible about the app it’s worked fine and has made my edits look a lot better if you make edits on picsart then please switch to Leo or superimpose x it will make your edits look great and it’s well worth the money

Please add this tool back. There was a tool that you could use when making a gradient or a blank layer that you could move it to a color on the picture you have set it was very useful and I would enjoy having it back

Amazing. I've been using Superimpose for months now and didn't realize this was available as well for more advanced editing. Seriously an amazing app and so powerful. Love this!!

Cat. This is amazing app. I keep learning more every time I use it! Thanks!

Almost PS Touch!!. Unfortunately Adobe discontinued PS Touch for the iPad. However, after searching hundreds of photo editing apps, Leonardo comes closest to replacing PS Touch. This app has a tool selection for editing photos far better than most all other apps in the App Store. Leonardo is far more intuitive and diverse than the competition. I would give it 5 stars vs 4 if they updated it more frequently. There are areas that could use tweaking and new features added. Other than regular improvements, this app is highly recommended!!

Essential app. Wonderful app for photo editing. So many options. For one reason or another (and another), I always use this app first and foremost before I treat with other apps. Well done.

Use it every day. I use it for my drawings to add colors etc. Masking and making selection is the best I have seen. Enough effects. Easy to use etc! Adult coloring using this is fun! I get to color my own drawings! My go to app for pretty much everything for post production! Please update this with full resolution output! There is no other apps that do the selection and masking as well as this!

Please help!!. I’ve been using this app for years. But now, whenever I export a photo it completely makes the photo blurry! Nothing is fixing it. I deleted the app and reinstalled and yet it’s the same thing. I have the I phone XS. This shouldn’t be happening...please fix

Good app. The dropped shadow is ok on Leonardo, but I'd like to have the option of moving it and placing it anywhere I want without limitation. On your other app, Superimpose, you placed the shadow tab at the output. It should have been placed with the other tools in the edit panels. Also, the 'shadow' function does not allow me to zoom in on the image to get an up-close view of the shadow for better tuning. Overall, Superimpose is better on 'shadow' functionality in that it can be placed anywhere. On Leonardo, the manual 'masking' brush tends to be a lot slower than that if Superimpose. Please fix!!!

Excellent. A little difficult to figure out how to use but a powerful editing app with photoshop-like layers, masking and blending. Missing the Plaster effect from Photo Wizard though.

The gradient tool is broken. My gradient tool is broken, it says drag to make a gradient, then double tap to confirm. But when I double tap it goes away and I can’t choose my colors. Someone please help. (I’ve tried deleting then reinstalling the apps again, it didn’t work) but it’s a good app either way

How do I fix this?. Hi. This is a great app that I used to use for some photo editing. I just downloaded it on my new phone and I was excited to use it but for some reason every time I add an image, it’s quality becomes very poor. It didn’t do this before. How do I fix it?

Bugs and Updates. Overall the app use it all the time, but there are a few things I would change. Like, when I get to certain amount of layers, I can’t add anymore. Then I can’t finish what I’m working on without a lot more work. One other issue is the layer merge. It was fine not too ago, now, when I try to merge two items, one just disappears! I really like this app, but these are two things I would really like to see changed. Another issue I have found is that inside the app, the project is super low quality, it is fine when I save it to my phone, but I can hardly see to work on it!

Powerful photo editing on the go!. This is a very powerful photo editing app. It's learning curve will be high if you're not used to editing photos. For example, do you know what image layers are/masking options? If so, you'll probably hit the ground running. If not, you'll have a little more up-to-speed time as you learn photo editing (IMHO). Great app devs :)

Needs a serious update. This app is great, but needs a serious update. It looks like it was made in 1995 or something. It has many features and it can be incredibly powerful, but it lacks a lot. It just needs to be brought up and polished. Big time.

Can't ask for better. Not being a professional artist or photographer, I can't speak for anyone other than someone who enjoys manipulating and enhancing my photos. This marvelous app not only allows me to enhance, modify, experiment, and try to my heart's content, but it hardly lets go of me every time I open it. I get started and don't want to stop. When I finally stop a session it's with reluctance and anticipation of a quick return. Beautiful, friendly, versatile, brimming with quality.

Fantastic editing app. I love this app. I haven't found a better iOS app for photos.

Photos import blurry now. Sadly, support for this app seems to have dropped off. Pictures are imported low res and blurry on iPhone 8 Plus, and others have reported the same with iPhone X, which essentially makes it completely useless. Super disappointing, as this used to be a stellar experience.

Crashes too much. Lately, I’ve been having problems with this app and crashing. I would start a project and leave it unfinished for another time. Later on, when I come back to finish, on the home screen, it shows half of the project thumbnail with the other half being completely transparent. When I try opening the project, it immediately crashes. This needs to be fixed.

good quality app. while the UI isn't the smoothest the tools and tutorials on how to use them lead to excellent results, it's good on an iPhone and great on an iPad

Update May 24. Since your update if I take a photo either on my iPad or iPhone it jams and I can't either use the photo or retake, or even get back to home. So disappointing.

Works again. Once again an amazing app now that it installs. I’ve been using this for years and it’s the best app for quick mockups of ideas or taking you time for a great final product. Well done 👍

Great app!. Leonardo is a great app. It does take a bit of time to learn how it works if you are a novice like me but the videos are very helpful. Leonardo is especially good for layers and masking and has some nice filters too. The developer is very helpful and the app is updated regularly. Well worth the money!

Sensational app but...... This is by far the best app I have used for photo editing but it is well overdue for an update to rectify minor bug issues and crashing. Apart from the minor crashing and bugs there is nothing that comes close to this app as far as photo editing features go. Don’t let me honest appraisal deter you from purchasing this app. It really is good.

Excellent app. I love this app. It has almost everything you need for your advanced editing on an iPhone. I do also have laminar pro but I find the interface on Leonardo much more user-friendly. One thing I would like to improve is the cloning tool. If you zoom in all the way to work on a small area with the cloning tool, the picture just zooms out. That tool is the only thing I'm unhappy about. Most other tools and features are similar to what you can find on PS. They also have video tutorials for those with less experience.

Great app!. I love the app, haven't seen a better mobile photoshop app. But I have a little problem, u should have a option to zoom in when selecting and masking. If u added this feature, it would be perfect! Thx for reading!

Leonardo. I LOVE this App. I use it every day but at the moment it is not letting me work on maximum resolution files on my iPhone 8 plus. Could you please fix this ASAP?

BEST PHOTO APP ,. This app is amazing I love it this is the best photo app just great app oh and for the next update plz and more tools I love this app if you like making photos this is the app you need to get well worth the price as well 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I would give 18,000 stars if I could !

Top notch. It's quite amazing what this app can do. Don't know how well known it is, but you won't need computer software photo editors, if you have this. Definitely watch the instructional video with the red rose and apply its principles of masking and selecting as you go to your own photos to help you learn.

Great app!!!. I love using this app. So many useful features and the video tutorials are excellent.

My essential tool.. No matter the number of apps I use to make my art, Leonardo is still the backbone in my creative process for social media art (iPad and iPhone). An extensive app for photo manipulation with an easy to use interface. By the way, do you guys have an Instagram account? I keep wanting to tag/promote on there for you but can't find.

Exceptional. Excellent instructions, very good tutorials AND THE SOFTWARE is in my top 2 out of many. I'm very impressed and the support response is electric. Thanku

Amazing App. This is an amazing app. I fave found it very user friendly and the layering component is fantastic. I am having so much fun using this app to create a digital album of a family vacation. Highly recommended!!

LAGGY. Please fix!! Laggy AF

Eye dropper tool. It's a great app.. But would be even better with the eyedropper tool! 😄

The best. I've tried dozens of photo editing apps and this one has it all (layers, selections, masks...). It's powerful, but easy to use. The only app you need to make great picture

Powerful fluent. Love this one, had it for a while now and just updating my review, I've had plenty of photo editing apps and thanks to Leonardo I have a lot less, freeing up some valuable memory. Thanks for this.

STILL NOT FIXED. There's already been two updates for the same fix but it's still not working? I can't load any photo to edit and Leonardo's one of my favorite apps to work with. I really don't want to have to start looking for alternatives for it, so please try and fix it soon? Or restore to its state before? If the issue persists you may as well just stop supporting older iOS devices because you'll just end up wasting my time. Please have it fixed soon. It's a great app.

The Best for photo editing. Leonardo remains my #1 choice for photo editing, especially for more complex work involving layers, masks, selections, effects, blending modes, burning & dodging, and more. Leonardo sets the standard for other app to aspire to.

Garbage. I want my money back.....

Too expensive!!. Omg I needed the app for 1 edit and it's too expensive please lower price!

Simply the best. Layers, masks, wide range of editing tools, text, .... and most important and incredible of all... Photoshop PSB format export!!! And it works!!! Keep up the excellent work all of you Leonardo's Devs!!!

Great Potential for this rich app. Honestly, haven't used it much but given the standard of its sister app - Superimpose, I have high expectations from this app to bring out the Leonardo's & Picasos in every digit artist - on iOS.

Help. I really like the app but for some reason I can't open certain photos in my camera roll. Plz help and fix that!!!

Awesome. I've tried many, many image editors on iOS and this one is by far the most comprehensive. It is kept up to date and is relatively easy to use (most advanced image editors have a bit of a learning curve). I would highly recommend checking out the Video Tutorials (tap the ? in app) to get up to speed quickly.

Great Overall App Besides Crashes. The app is everything you’ll ever need for mobile editing, its fills basically all your needs. My only problem is when I wanna adjust an old project the app always crashes.

The best app of its type. The interface is incredible. Some say it's outdated, but I say that I don't understand what outdated has to to with anything. A powerful app like this, that can do so much, so easily, should not be belittled with foolish criticisms. Would you prefer a fancy app that is hard to master and that has less capabilities, then get it. I prefer easy to use and powerful to trendy. It's up to you.

Great App!. One of the best tutorials I have ever seen on any photo editing app. Thanks........

Great but NEEDS a blend brush!!!. This is a totally great app except for the fact that it has no blend brush! It has clone brush, lighten, darken, etc, but it really NEEDS: a blend brush, a color picker brush, a sharpen brush, a soften brush. Without those brushes you have to work on your layers then go to other apps to finish them.

Wicked. This is a very cool app. The layering and masking work very well, and there are plenty of regular editing features as well. Very fun and easy to learn. Let's just hope the developer keeps developing and provides us with regular updates.

AMAZING. Probably the best editing app I've ever used and way better than Superimpose😂

Absolutely love it.... One of my favourite photo editing apps and highly recommend it. Great work guys!

Worth every penny!. Wow, I am amazed. What a powerful app. So easy to learn, use, and the end results happen in seconds. And it's cheap! Good-bye Photoshop.

Amazing app. My favourite photo editing app on iPhone and iPad. Thank you! Great job.

Awesome!!. When i started I was using superimpose and than someone told me about this app!! I never use superimpose since I got Leonardo it is very good! Hope it will have an update soon we other tools!

Used to be better. This app used to be really really good, but now, it makes everything blurry. I just finished an edit, and it blurred it. So that was an hours worth of work, and now it's pretty much ruined. Please fix this, it makes everything blurry and it's very annoying

Great editing capabilities. This is possibly the best, most powerful editing app currently available. It's got nearly everything any serious mobile photog would need to do in- depth editing of images, and the quality is very high. Well worth the purchase. My only complaints are that there is little help in the way of tutorials for some of the functions- it's assumed that one knows the basics already. And my second comment is that it seems that when opening a filter or something, some of the sliders are not responsive to being 'grabbed' when at either zero or 100%. Could be a bug, could just be my screen protector possibly. Great product, although I do tend to use Snapseed more as its interface is much faster for basic post-capture tweaks.

Great app. Good multi layer functionalities

Great for editing pics on iPhone. Leonardo is the best photo-editing app I have found on iPhone so far. I've never paid for any of the big name iOS editing apps, but if there is a free app with better features I haven't found it yet. It has a great set of tools including: layers (!), various wands/selection methods, effects (including adjustable perspective distortion/correction), & toms more (even a clone tool)! On top of that, it is still easy to use (I have Paintshop Pro on my desktop & Leonardo is similar/intuitive enough that I could use it right "out of the box"). As for cons, if any, it would be nice if the clone tool was a little more precise, but hey, it actually HAS a working clone tool (& tbf I am a big guy using an iPhone 5S so precision my be my problem, so still 5 stars)! Overall very nice job by developers, keep up the great work! Highly recommend!

best editing app. I use this app for all my edits and it's honestly the best for blending!!

Indispensable. I love this app. It has basic but nice filters and editing tools like exposure adjustment. But it also carries more advanced stuff too like masking and layers. These last two I think are superior to many of the other apps out there. Art studio has it beat in some areas, particularly in terms of different drawing/painting options, but I find the interplay of masking, selection, and layer functioning on this app to be more intuitive and that it does some things easily that I cannot get art studio to do. A couple of suggestions: allow zooming in for editing perspective on selections. Also add a cut and paste function for selected items. All in all a wonderful app!

Update for iPhone 8 Plus. When ever I put a image in a project, it looks blurry I have a iPhone 8 Plus and this app needs to be updated

Great editing app. Always have loved Leonardo!!! Glad you still update it.

As good as it gets at this point, with 1 or 2 biggish problems. - Things really should be farther along by now, but if you need to edit photos on the fly, or if there's something you can't quite accomplish in Procreate, this is what there is. - Other reviews have already pointed out what's useful, and there is a lot... BUT ... The lack of an "eyedropper" type tool for selection of color directly from the screen (when using the paintbrush tool) is just completely ridiculous. - Honestly, this is probably a 4 star app right now, but since this is such a *ridiculous* oversight (and because the interface is sometimes clumsy... as when the clone tool's source area constantly appears off-screen if screen is zoomed) I'm sticking to 3. Because, c'mon... - I will happily change this to a 5 once this is added. - (And by the way... just discovered that Pixelmator has this as well... so... maybe there IS something else out there...)

Still the best!. If DaVinci were alive today, he'd be using Leonardo. It's that good!

No questions: the best money I have spent for a piece of software. Leonardo is unbelievably powerful, fast and easy to use. It boasts a genius implementation of layers, masks, filters, texts, editing and selection tools. I get so much delight creating beautiful pieces of artwork from clippings using my fingers. Desktop applications are of course more powerful, but are blown away by Leonardo's fun factor, convenience and intuitive controls. It's a must buy for creative types!

Love it. Must admit, it took me awhile to learn the features of this app. The learning curve is lengthier than most. But I now love it to death. Previous reviewer complained about the undo not working as expected. It could be that the mask was still on. Once you mask an item, and make/save changes to the masked area, the mask is still on. If you want to make any more edits to the layer, you have to deselect the mask . Took me awhile to figure that out.

Love it, love it, love it. Its what I've been waiting for for the Ipad since Ipad 1. I have Ipad 3, IOS 6.1.3. 3G/LTE. I'm a longtime user of PS and LR and this is the closest for mobile I've tried (and I have all the better apps). What can I say--masks, layers, filter, selection....saving in jpeg, psd or png. So far no issues and I've put it thru the mill today. I have a custom PC for photo processing for RAW but for uploads to Flickr or Pbase this is just terrific. I use an Adonit Jot for selections which works great with app for selections, masking. I'm a happy camper to say the least. Highly recommended.

Something is going on. The merging and brush tool won't save. Merging/blending doesn't stay after action selected. Same for brush tool. Will not save anything. Wasn't like this before.

Love this app. At first I wasn't to sure about this app, but the more I played with it the more I liked it. I was thinking about buying photoshop touch, but the reviews are bad on photoshop. Then I found this app and it was cheaper and does way more than I thought it would do. I wanted a app to make collages, blends and a app that I could add my own textures in and this app lets me do it all on my iPad. I love the tools filters and textures that it also comes with. I would love to see a brush eraser in the feature, but for now the mask tools works wounderful. I'm happy with this purchase. It has crashed one time, but it saved my work and I read photoshop touch crashes a lot and you lose your work. I was happy to see my work was saved when the app crashed and I could pick up where I left off. This is a good editing app. Users looking to buy photoshop touch, give this app a try first. It dose it all and it's half the price.

A full-featured, professional photo editing application!. I've searched and searched looking for a photo editor app having "full power." Leonardo is that app. The ability to use layers, have layer masks, but more particularly to allow intelligent and clean mask selections -- that matters a lot in a touch-oriented environment. The video demos give you a jump start on the efficient and clean GUI. And of course it has important professional photography functions like the ability to edit the EXIF and other metadata. Your work is saved in the app like a project -- one could say similarly to a PSD file, and you can in fact export PSD. Since you can select layers, one Leonardo application can export several JPEG or PNG renderings, depending on what is selected. A truly incredible app.

Used to be great.. Then the update forked it. No more color selection tool.

Photoshop for iPhone and iPad. Very powerful app 🤠🤡😎🤓🤑 Please keep updating and supporting this wonderful app

Help. My quality is so bad when I use this app I use to love it it shouldn’t be bad I have the I phone x please help please

Awesome editing app with multiple layers. This is my favorite editing app on the iPad. I like being able to add another layer without having to merge what I already have. There are times I am not sure about the order of the layers until I get multiple elements and textures added to my composition. Leonardo allows me to change the order of my layers easily. The masking tool is great. I hope the developer continues to add features and improve Leonardo because it is indispensable to me.

Wow!!!! The Best Photo Editor!. This is simply the most significant photo app to come out in a long time. Multiple layers, blend modes, and just about any image adjustment you can imagine .... It's all here. And it is all wrapped up in a beautiful interface! There are several other good editors, but they are all missing something -- either layers or masks or an intuitive interface. Leonardo has blown them all away. If you are serious about editing photos, you need this app.

Amazing.. It's just like a desktop software-it's really amazing. My only complaint is that I'd like an option to invert layers, unless if there is and I hadn't searched well enough. I'm not able to use a desktop software anymore, and Leonardo has solved that problem. Like I said though, I wish for an option to invert layers if there isn't one. I don't exactly remember what it was, since I haven't been able to use a desktop software, but Leonardo is the best nevertheless.

For masking and layers this is the best of the best. For right now, 2015, this is as good as it gets, but it could be improved. I've never tried exporting it, but it will let you export to Photoshop files👍. I would like an eyedropper tool, and to be able to grow/shrink the mask. (because the anti-aliasing pictures make everything look slightly fake) Also the brushed effect is not organic feeling and very heavy-handed. Most manipulation should be a lot more subtle, the range of useful control is concentrated right in the center. All that said, this is definitely a four or five star app if you need it. Compositing, saving masks etc. On the latest 2014 iPad and iPhone I have found them to be stable with no lost work. Sometimes the masks and layers don't refresh but it's not file corruption, I back out and open the file and all is well.

My Number One Rated App For Photographers. I've used a lot of apps in the App Store for doing photos on the iPhone, this app does so much. I feel like I'm using Photoshop for the iPhone with all of the power packed features built in to build a fantastic picture. It's easy to use and gives you the ability to add great looking effects regardless if your a beginner or a seasoned photographer. It has a lot, but not everything but enough to make any one put out quality photography. Don't miss downloading this app.

Serious editor for serious skills. This is the power tool for skilled editors. There are a thousand one-click "make it pretty" apps for snapshooters. Leonardo will do fast automatic adjustments, too. But if you're serious about image editing, you need Leonardo. Layers, paintable masks, full controls - this is the one I turn to when I my image needs real help. I give it five stars because of what it is right now. (And at such a great price.) But in the future, I would be willing to pay much more if it included: * Eyedropper sampling of colors across the image * Custom color palettes * Better control over leading and kerning of text * Clone controls that are simpler and more obvious * Variable non-linear stretching of layers (admittedly, I'm talking about a quick-and-dirty cheat to help make elements fit together) * Liquifaction. I was floored to find that actually working ON MY PHONE in another app. Add it to Leo and you'd have, well, Photoshop. A boy can dream. But I love Leonardo just the way it is right now, and use it almost every day.

good program. good editor

Quality. Ever since you released superimpose x it feels like the quality of Leonardo got terrible

Bad exports. When ever I export a photo with cloning it usually glitches the photo and ruins all the cloning, the only way around this is taking a screenshot of it before exporting it but then it makes the quality so so bad very pixelated

By far, the best photo editing app.. Hardly a day goes by that I do not use the powerful editing features of Leonardo to transform all kinds of photos from ordinary to extraordinary. There was a bit of a learning curve in the beginning, but the investment in time I made to explore the many features has paid big dividends in results. I continue to discover faster and easier ways to do various things as well as find new ways to use existing tool. With Leonardo, I have more than gotten my money's worth.

Leonardo has the title of being the most-Photoshop-like app.. Leonardo is a very good and impressive effort at a Photoshop clone for iPhone. I've bought many apps (including Adobe's own apps) that claim to do what Photoshop can do and none of them do. The [non-available] Photoforge2 app was the best one so far then but now Leonardo has the title of being the most-Photoshop-like app. Since this is a new app, it is missing a few critical items and some features need further adjustments, but I'm sure they'll be ironed out since the developer was receptive to my feedbacks. His words: "All these feedbacks from real users are keeping me busy and happy. Looking forward to provide a better experience with Leonardo in the upcoming updates." All in all, Leonardo is an excellent start at being a full blown professional photo editing app for iPhone.

Almost perfect😬. This app is great for editing, but when I wok on an edit for a long period of time on it, the layers start glitching, and when I close and reopen the app, when I try to go back to the edit the whole app force-closes! And it doesn't stop doing that, so I can't go back to the edit I've worked really hard on😭 Please fix this! And when you do a lot of filtering to recolor a layer, the quality and color gets really weird too... If these things are fixed, this app will be perfect! Thank you for reading!

Great but Devs Gave Up. This is one of the best photo editors but the devs gave up on it in order to promote their app “SuperimposeX.”

Great app. Closest to photoshop features I've seen yet.

Merge layers is broken in recent iOS update.. Great app. Lots of other apps were impacted. Other Apps fixed their issues. Logging as a bug. I paid for this app and there is no support. Apps with no support that don’t function after an update should be pulled from the App Store. I want a refund.

Photoshop iOS. Great app, but interface is outdated

Used to be my go to app for photo editing, but sadly no more. Update January 2017 I regret to say I never use this anymore since I store photos shot with my bridge and DSLR cameras in cloud storage and as noted in my previous review below Leonardo still lacks the ability to either open an image directly from a cloud location or open in Leonardo and retain EXIF data and file names. Though it can export PSD projects, it lacks the ability to import PSD projects. These factors started me moving away from Leonardo toward other apps that allow for multi-layer editing and masking such as Pixelmator (and now Affinity Photo) and masking apps that allow for saving transparent png files such as Union in the Pixite suite of apps. For my file management workflow and my spontaneous experimentational approach to editing and creating abstracts, I simply find other options more appealing. At this point I don't bother with Leonardo just in order to add an effect because I then have to copy a downsized layer created by Leonardo and paste it into a project I've created in Pixelmator which retains the original image size, file name and EXIF data as I desire (and allows saving that image to a cloud location), though of course that is still possible. Once I started moving away from Leonardo exploring other effects apps became more enticing and I find it doesn't occur to me to use it for the features I used to rely upon it for in the past. Earlier review: Still my go to app for editing because it's so versatile with so many features. Great for masking and layering. Just wish I could export to locations other than just Dropbox and that I could "open in" from apps at full res and with EXIF data intact. Snapseed retains EXIF data via open in from photos on Dropbox photos and I can confirm EXIF data exists on photo using Big Photo, so it's possible, but not done in Leonardo. I hope this gets changed in future updates. I'm running iOS 8.4 on iPhone 5S and iPad Air and this aspect has never worked right for me. I'd also like EXIF data retained from copied and pasted photos. Would so be great if there were iCloud Drive integration so I could open photos that are on my OneDrive. Pixelmator allows this, but I much prefer editing in Leonardo.

Truly an Accomplishment. This is not a simple photo app meant for everyone. If you use Photoshop, you'll be amazed at how well this app allows you to utilize layers to recreate the exact same dramatic effects and localized edits, especially considering it's $5. It's UI is definitely cumbersome, but that's unavoidable given the complexity of what it tries to accomplish. If you're serious about photo editing, this is the only app you'll need and the best I've used. If you're new to photo editing, buy this app, learn it well, then edit all your photos with it, even those you take on your camera. If you really read and learn about editing, you can get truly pro results with this $5 app.

Terrible. I'd rather spend $5 on a plastic wrapper than buying this $5 crappy rip off app. It messes up the size of every picture and the tools are the most complicated things to work with in the universe.

Put your clients first!. I haven’t used the app yet. But as soon as I opened the app, I get prompted to upgrade to a better version of the app. Another $5! GIVE THAT OPTION BEFORE I PURCHASE THE WATERED DOWN VERSION FOR $5!!!

Used to be my favorite. I used to use this app every day. For the past 6 months or so there's been a bug that deletes layers when you try to merge them. I've emailed support, and there's been no resolution to this bug. May just be a dead app. It's a shame. MY KINGDOM FOR AN UPDATE!!!

Excellent for all photo editing needs!. Since there's no iPhoto for ios8 I was looking for something comparable. Unfortunately there are too many superficial photo editing apps but barely any more detailed ones. This app does it all and even more. Not only has it all kinds of layers but also an editing brush and masking. I gladly spent 5 bucks on it and can recommend it to anyone who wants some more serious editing features.

Removed eye dropper? Losing support!?. I enjoy this app but it seems to be getting limited with time? Trying to push the new app by the developer? Superimpose X

Earned its name!!. This app has earned the ability to tout the name Leonardo. Easy to use and extremely powerful, using this app blew me away. I do all of my photography edits on my iDevice, and it is amazing to see such a powerful app in something I use every day. This app has few problems, but among those problems are the sticky slides. It crashes on me every now and then, but not often. It is reassuring that I can utilize multiple layers at a time while the app remains stable!

Very nice with some suggestions.. This is a great app and although it's way more functional than this other app I use, Photofusion, I still like Photofusion better because it has an easier layout and because you have the ability to center things. Also you don't have to permanently stick one layer to another before you can add a new picture to the product because what if you mess up on the previous layer? That's all I can think of at the moment but this is a great app for what it's capable of.

Absolutely my Goto tool for professional images. I’ve used this tool on my iPhone and iPad Pro for all sorts of creation of community advocacy and simulated scenes, like taking bridges or underpasses in one part of country and showing how they look and function at a new site. No other iOS tool comes close. On iPad Pro it can handle very large HD images, I recall about double iPad screen. Yesterday at work creating a professional aircraft instrument installation guide, despite having great professional 3D cad tools, Solidworks, Visio etc on my workstation, I discovered that it was possible to output png images with transparent backgrounds from Leonardo and use them in other tools. I use the contrast tools, histogram tools, magic tool, smart brush and brush a lot. I do have wish list. I wish that clone tool would use two finger mode option to set so source of clone was lot more controllable. When it works it’s heaven, but really tricky as it can suddenly lose where reference started at and like to jump to where drawing at. Inserting text rather awkward and like to be able to make placement pointer much easier to see maybe bold yellow option in setup. Really need dumb lines, arc or various widths and polygon tool as in Microsoft paint. There are times when contrast and color are just close for magic type of tools and I find myself porting images back to paint to get a crisp smooth line. Using brush tends to leave scalloped edges and it can be very tedious. Thank you for really useful tool in IOS I just wish a real native OCR tool existed in iOS. On my old windows 95 machine which my iPhone greatly exceeds, I used to be able to almost perfectly (except very artistic letters) dump into word from scanned image or pdf image.

Leonardo - ALL YOU NEED!!. This app, beats ANY other photo editing app by far! Well worth $4.99! I currently use anywhere between 4-5 different apps on average to edit on my iPhone & iPad as there really aren't any apps out there that offer all that I need. I've only owned this app for about an hour and just messed around with all of the features but am confident that once I get comfortable with it, I'll be able to delete all of my others and use this one only! Great work - A MUST OWN!

Kudos .. Brilliant App. I am normally not very fond of writing reviews. But this app is something which compelled me to write. Simply brilliant, very well thought and designed tools and yet very simple to use. I could create very beautiful collage and photo mixes. And you have many and various options to select from. Just get this app and create beautiful pictures. This app got everything that is required for professional photo editing.

😱. Best photo editor app !!!!!

Buggy does not work with Dropbox. Program will not work with Dropbox says outdated Dropbox interface, program still good.

Needs full res option. Very nice photo editing app with a ton of features and options. Much more user friendly than Laminar and Photoshop Touch. Ease of layering, applying effects, are great. Especially like the slider to control effects. Excellent work on creating this full featured photo editing app. This along with Snapseed, are the only ones I will need for immediate post-processing before I bring an image into another app. Two things I'd really like to see: Higher quality scans of the grunge border overlays. As is right now they are soft and blurred and unusable as is. They need to be higher res as they export extremely pixelated. Full res option. As others have noted, very high res is not full res,at least on my ipad 3 and iPhone 4S. Other than that so far, I am still experimenting with this app and like what it offers. Great deal at $2.

Powerful. Most powerful tool in my collection.

Leonardo is broken. Developer is not telling us whether he will/can update the app. Meanwhile users are treated to a “layered” promotion for a different app.

Pls fix it. I am have issues with merging pictures together and the pic below always disappears
