I am two weeks into using this app and I love the combination of food logging, a coach, a community and the short articles. I am actually down a little over 5lbs already and I am moving much more. It's easy to use.
This app is great
I love that I have a group and an individual coach. I need to be accountable to someone and this app is perfect for that. They give you daily goals to check off when you do them. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.
The free trial isn't free
My credit card was charged $99 for the "free" 14 day trial. And good luck contacting customer support. There is no phone number and they take weeks to respond via email with a one liner, unhelpful response. Definitely don't recommend this company.
This used to be a great, stable app. Beginning a few updates ago it has become so glitchy it is almost unusable. When trying to log a meal you have to tap the add option multiple times until it actually brings up the page. It's 50/50 if it will let you save what you just entered. On top of the unreliability it asks you to upgrade every time you use the app, which wouldn't be as obnoxious if the app actually worked. The features are great but they are clearly cutting corners and desperate for cash and it shows in the quality of the app.
Not Very Helpful
By Little Patience
I paid for the 3 month plan (approx. $120) and was not impressed.
The "coaching" was 1-on-1, but was sporadic and unhelpful, consisting primarily of vague self-help slogans. Also, my coach disappeared for several days and was later replaced by a different coach, who had even less to offer.
Regarding the food tracking aspect of the app...The online food database is not nearly robust enough & adding new foods is cumbersome. The pre-set portion sizes tend to be weird and vague. The recipe builder is extremely clumsy and time consuming--and will save a recipe only once for a particular meal. Next time, it would be necessary to go through the whole process again for another meal. Sheesh!
The red/yellow/green food designations are a little broad and don't really deal with specific nutrients.
The online articles, which I guess are the main "meat" of the program, are super-basic...if you literally know nothing at all about nutrition, health & fitness, you might learn something new. Otherwise, the articles are a waste of time, although they are super short and tend toward simple bullet points, anyway. Not enough actual content to create the dramatic lifestyle change Noom suggests is possible with their plan.
Maybe Noom would be good for someone who just suddenly became fat without any idea how it happened and no idea whatsoever how to address the problem. Overall, I would say I wasted my money. I lost only about 3 lbs. and didn't feel pushed toward changing any habits. I learned nothing new.
Don't waste your money. No customer service
Took my payment but kept asking me to pick course and make payment. Contacted them and got nothing but to check frequently asks questions. They got my money, I got nothing. Poor service.
Great for me but YMMV

I am really happy with this app. After years of struggling, I'm seeing results already—down more than 5 lbs in under 2 weeks. I don't like hearing about people having trouble cancelling. That's very important. I love my coach, so maybe they're trying to find more like her.
Technical support and service stinks
While trying to resolve technical issues (not being able to post in the group) I got kicked out of the group. I have to admit, the coach did send me messages but I had started a new job and hardly had time to get back to him. The only reason why I joined in the first place was because insurance was paying for it. I've been paying for another health app and never had this many problems with it. I don't recommend Noom. Even with the free service you couldn't log less than half an apple and their app is poorly programmed. I'll stick with my paid app thanks!
STAY AWAY! FRAUDULENT COMPANY
This app is horrible! Believe me when I say stay away..... the "free trial" is a joke, the coaching is contrived and I was fraudulently charged. When I realized early into my free trial that this app sucked, it directs you to your coach to let them know you want to cancel your subscription. Finally, when the coach replied, she said that someone from the account management team would contact me and be assured that I would not be charged. HA! Never got a response even after multiple times reminding my coach. Even after all that they still charged me $99.... and of course I'm getting the run around. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY FAR FAR AWAY!!
For me it works
I choose not to be part of a group, or be coached I use it as a personal tracking and logging system. Makes it easy to log meals and track progress. I log in, I lose weight. I'm not paying $45/ month to have someone monitor my progress, that is my job. If I log it and only I review it I am brutally honest. Have lost 52# and dropping. Just me, you do what works for you.
noom is pretty great.
I buy and consume a ton of goods and services online, but rarely do I ever leave reviews. I think that in a way makes me a bad e-citizen. So I'm writing this to indemnify myself. I was in pretty bad shape and needed a major intervention. I had joined a gym and hired a trainer, enrolled in a nutrition program, but something still felt like it was too lax. I needed monitoring and support when I was at my weakest. I ran across noom on Facebook. Everything about it just made sense. It's using the science, he psychology, the nutrition know how and combining it with an app that helps you track everything. It helps that I have a Fitbit and a Withings scale - everything syncs up and it's beautiful. Food tracking is pretty easy, I have to enter all mine manually because I'm eating preportioned meals. But it's not that hard. Easier than MyFitnessPal. And the coach feature is pretty great. It's nice to have someone that isn't your friend or relative to talk to about your progress. I'm just trying to lose as much weight as possible as fast as possible. Noom is just another great tool that's going to make sure I get there.
Been on for a week and LOVING it. It keeps your head in the game, instead of only being mindful when you have a meeting or weigh-in coming up. Absolutely love it.
