The Desert Sun Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Republican-controlled News Organization. The Desert Sun endorsed Greg Wallis over Christy Holstege. Wallis went on to win by 85 votes. Would he have won had the Desert Sun not endorsed him? The Desert Sun is controlled by a national organization that doesn’t care about our community, and are happy to endorse candidates that want to take away our civil liberties. Therefore I’ve cancelled my subscription. I will get my local news from the Palm Springs Post instead.

Stay in top of Coachella valley news. Easy to navigate. Frequently updated. Worth subscribing to.

Desert Sun app update. I’m so extremely sorry I updated to this new version. It’s been a disaster. I start the app and an add pops up. Not the ad in the paper but a separate pop up. Then as I go through reading more pop up adds appear. I’m letting others know to NOT update this app. There are too many problems to explain here but it is awful. I’m just about ready to cancel the whole thing.

Great local news.. I can’t find these good local stories on the local TV stations.

Erin Rode on PS Ruth Hardy Park 4th of July. I am disappointed by the writer Reporting false facts And giving negative comments the stage Saying most people did not like it Few who brought their dogs liked it 150 people attended B most B of them were disappointed None sense It was packed People recite her phrases and false facts to put down Palm Springs As a desert newspaper you should support the City, Safety and a more integrated future Selling fireworks to the public is still legal in the desert Your writer glorifies roudy and irresponsible practices Rosemarie Andrews

I hate the ads, I’m a subscriber and the online Desert Sun is terrible!. If I don’t get the newspaper print version, I don’t read it online because there are too too many ads that aren’t relevant for me.

Great Local News. It’s nice to read a paper with local Reporting. News not news entertainment. Except in the entertainment section.

Great local paper. Always informative

Awful news app!. I have been a subscriber for nearly 25 years, but I am beginning to rethink that. Recently, The Desert Sun eliminated the print edition on Saturdays, and I’m ‘old school’ and prefer my news in PRINT. So I got used to the ‘print edition’ app for my Saturday edition. Then you announced that the app will be eliminated, and I can use the other digital app for my e-newspaper. IT IS AWFUL. It doesn’t allow me to use my tablet in horizontal view (which I prefer because it stands on its own that way) so I have to hold it or prop it up. OK. But the app behaves much differently from the previous one. Being able to see the spreads as they are laid out in the print edition is part of the experience. That’s gone now. I am now also subjected to pop-up ads, which is insulting given what my subscription costs. Besides which, the app is ‘buggy’ and balky, with ghosting links, and all sorts of other garbage. It’s almost unusable. Clearly its only a matter of time before the print edition is discontinued completely, and I will, sadly, get my local news elsewhere.

One small issue. There doesn’t seem to be a place to sign on if already a subscriber, which I am. It did appear a couple of times, but all I see now is a request to subscribe.

Hard to get to. Every time I open this app, it tells me that I need to pay for a subscription to the sun. I already do and there’s no place to login. And then when I go to settings to login, I have to click on pictures of motorcycles or cars or bicycles are traffic lights it’s ridiculous.

Scroll with finger drag needs work. The app is great with content and good with presentation, however the finger drag to scroll is does not work all the time. I have a 10th gen iPad with magic keyboard that works on every other app but this one. Fix it and the App would be 5 star

Great App. Lots of different ways to read the publication. Sometimes I like to see the paper with the ads and other times just focus on the articles. The option to sign up for newsletters for specific cities and topics is useful as is the daily briefing.

App doesn’t allow subscriber access to content. I am continually frustrated by being blocked from viewing/reading content - despite being logged onto my account I keep getting pages that say I must be a subscriber to read the rest of the article.

Worst app ever!. I have used other newspaper apps, and this one is the worst! It keeps freezing up and skipping pages. It’s very slow to open up, and then they throw ads in once in a while so that you can’t progress until they think you have looked at the ad long enough. Usually, I never finish the whole paper because I get too disgusted with it freezing up, so that I give up entirely.

Best desert news media in the valley. I love the Desert Sun. It’s very well written and informative - much better than most Coachella Valley news media. My only complaint is trying to login after I bought a subscription- it really should be quite simple, but someone has managed to make it so bad that I may not renew my subscription.

Excellent. Wish all newspapers we're this easy, if your into the valley and Palm Springs this app is a must have.

The Desert Sun says it All. I love it because of the great focus on local CV news and happenings…restaurants, activities, community services…it has it all for the desert; you can also find general national sports and news as well and international highlights.

Excellent read. Keep up to date on all of the local news!

My go to for valley news. Everything I need to know locally in one place. Always informative AND I am supporting local journalism. Win Win

Desert Sun e news format. The new e news format for the Desert Sun is very disappointing. We use to read it almost like a real news paper. Now, there are just highlights with lots of pictures; sort of like a tabloid. Multiple requests for better options or how to direct me back to the old format (if it exists) resulted in no response. I have now canceled my subscription effective at the end of this month.

The Sun. I keep up with all that is happening in the Palm Springs area. Especially the weather.

“updated” app is terrible. Since we have to use the app at a minimum on Saturday and on other days when our delivery may not show until 10, please fix this supposed “updated” app. It’s buggy, hard to navigate. Awful!

Nearly unusable app. I have a very fast internet connection and using an iPhone 13……. This app tries to constantly display nearly full screen ads while scrolling through articles and constantly throws you back to the top of the list. So frustrating to use. Why am I paying for a subscription and not able to reasonably scroll through the content?

Don’t like it!. Somewhat clunky now and I hate the pop up ads. The newspapers have regular ads and the pop ups are really annoying It is hard to swipe and adjust the screen when enlarged.

Nice way to keep in touch. Keeps us connected while we're up north for the summer

Great news. My new go to news platform

Bring Back e-edition app. I read the paper newspaper daily -but delivery has become unreliable. On the days when the paper isn’t delivered, I am forced to read the e-edition. Now, you have taken away the e-edition app and replaced it with this monstrosity. Single tap, double tap, articles don’t resize. Ads float down over articles and then you can’t get back to the article. Additionally, I read the e-edition in landscape mode on an iPad. The new app does not allow the double page spread to fill the screen. It is a tiny representation—almost unreadable— of the double spread centered on the screen. If your readers are opting for the e-edition rather than your other format, wouldn’t you think that they would want to read the paper as a double spread in landscape format? You complain that you are losing readers?! This app makes the paper almost unreadable. I used to look forward to reading the paper with my coffee in the morning….now reading the Desert Sun has turned into a nightmare.

WHERE IS THE NEWS FOR TODAY?. This app used to be a 5 because it was a very easy to read e edition of the paper. NOW you can’t find the most basic of stories from today’s news. No national stories. No national sports. What happened in college football games yesterday. This is November 24. On the Top Stories page, there’s a MLB score from October 30. Did you change the app and put no one in charge of making sure all the news is there? HELP

Decent app, but journalism needs improvement. The app is intuitive and useful. However, The Desert Sun’s journalist writing style is occasionally grammatically incorrect, and articles that provide updates to oft-covered topics never include a backstory paragraph to help the reader understand context and history. And, the photos and videos placed at the top of each article often have nothing to do with the article’s content; in some cases, it has been seriously misleading and irresponsible. For example, when a restaurant in Palm Springs closed suddenly, the photo was of a completely different restaurant. I have complained to the Desert Sun repeatedly about this and have never received any response.

Desert Sun. Great local paper. Keep up with all the news in the Valley. I would prefer to have a “view print edition” like others.

Great updates!. I enjoy the updates each morning.

Everything that Going On. The Desert Sun app is like reading the paper version but better. No paper to manage. Better photos. Access to much more than the paper copy can provide. The Desert Sun staff covers all aspects of life in the desert, not just current news. A guide to living in the desert you don’t want to be without.

Desert Sun. Great local paper. Should publish more to counter the plans of MAGA Republicans to overthrow the Constitution in order to save US Democracy

Good basic app. It’s a pretty good app, but annoying that they leave items for weeks at the top of the section as opposed to putting latest news on the top of each section. Makes you feel like nobody has anything new to report.

App is way behind. Why doesn’t someone clean out the old articles in the listings? After 3 days, it’s old, way too old. And the caps and punctuations are terrible. Many of the headlines are poorly written. All it takes is someone to pay attention. Why is App not updated? Turned on at 7:15 AM and still have Sunday’s stories. How much sleep is needed?

Tech Problems. I get the paper copy of the newspaper and I also primarily read the electronic copy on my iPad. I have been doing this for a number of years. Last week when logging on to the electronic copy I got a warning saying it appeared I did not have a subscription. after trying to get logged on for several minutes I got disgusted and read my paper copy of the newspaper. I then went to my computer and logged onto the website and logged on to the Desert Sun and after that was able to get it on my iPad for several days. Now again todayI logged on and got a message saying I did not have aSubscription. This is very frustrating what’s wrong with your website and what do I have to do to be able to read the electronic copy.

Lousy news source. There is little local news coverage. Instead coverage and notification settings default to USA Today and sports 80% of the time. If you’re hyper focused on high school and professional sports, you’ll be happy with frequent notifications for every little thing. Even if you turn off sports notifications, it’s mostly what you get. And they do not respond to help requests. Waste of a subscription.

Update alerts. I appreciate the current and accurate updates and alerts. Easy viewing and can chose what to read. Thanks Desert Sun!

Just OK. It’s like reading the Associated Press ap. What would be ideal, and keep me as a subscriber, is if this Ap had a version that looked just like the printed newspaper. You would just flip the page on the screen to read the next page, just as if you were holding an actual copy of the Desert Sun in your hands. The LA Times has this and its super cool.

Winter visitor. Love the paper. We subscribe for the 5 months we spend in our winter home. Much better paper than in our summer home.

Love the local news!. Like reading local news.

Stay up on local news.. Desert Star keeps me up to date on local happenings.

Great for local news. Quality reporting on local area news

Advertisements. There are too many ads connected to stories. If you accidentally click on an ad it is almost impossible to get out of it.

Great Palm Springs area paper. Always great articles, covering topics of interest for those living in the area - permanent or snowbirds. Factual, well written and a great read. Thanks Desert Sun!

Easy read. I am a snowbird in this area and finding all sorts of activities to connect to in my winter home!

Ads. No more pop up ads please

Problem with format change. The presentation format has changed so that I can no longer swipe pages side to side and cannot spread the text large enough for me to read with limited vision.

They limit content for payment & personal info. This app severely limits content for payment and personal information. There are so many pop ups asking for payment and wanting an account set up with your personal information that it was unusable and I deleted.

The Desert Sun. The very best way to stay up to date and in the know until I can return for the winter season.

Really nice layout!. I love this app. It is really well laid out, and the stories come up quickly. We are snowbirds, and really enjoy being able to stay in touch.

Love it. I’m able to stay informed

App works well. Some in-depth journalism, too.. This works as well as any news app I have utilized. There is lots of high school sports stories, local news, local perspective on national news but most interesting are the extended in-depth crime stories.

Love the Deser. Can't travel any more so the Desert Sun keeps me in touch with Palm Springs and area. I can't resist promoting the beauty of Palm Springs in all respects.

Keeps us informed. We like to keep in touch with what is going on in the Palm Springs area, our second home. This app makes that easy. Nice layout, solid reporting. Thanks to the Desert Sun for make by this available. Don't forget to use the notification feature.

👉 Are you looking for an Adsense alternative advertising platform?

Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!

Clean interface. Very easy to read the paper in thus format

My review. It's a little weak for in depth news. It mostly covers "feel good" news and events promoting. There along way from being actual news source and the fact they want you to pay to get current news. Still, it's ok to past the time with. All five minutes and your done.

Love the Desert Sun!. Great app for instant news for the greater Palm Springs area.

Terrible. Can not sign on.

NO COMMENT. A level below. No world or national news to speak of. Letters To The Editor are not always factual. Strong on high school sports. Too many ads, including... Let's Go Brendon merch (@ 40% Off). I support the local paper as a business owner and someone who believes in having local journalists.

Sports are not urgent. News notifications I want. Not sports. Constant tennis notifications. Just stop.

Ads. I pay for a newspaper. You have added screen pop up ads at the beginning of the paper and in other sections. Get rid of this mess!

Great!!!!!. Great local new app!!! Always keeps me updated on local emergencies and events.

The Good, Bad & Ugly. If you live in Coachella Valley, Desert Sun is your only option for good coverage of local life. Well done, too!!! Yes, there are too many typos for my comfort. Get some better copy editors!! Like someone who's actually studied English GRAMMAR. And the only real ugly part of DS is the dominance of a certain neo-con masquerading as a biz-analyst who's views are far too represented on the financial page.

A wonderful local resource. We love the Desert Sun year 'round for the local and national news presented in a readable and entertaining format. The combination provides us with our informational needs.

Everything you don’t want to read. No way of filtering what you want to receive.

Love Desert Sun. Moved to Palm Desert, and reading The Desert Sun acquaints me with many aspects of the local lifestyles. Like The desert Sun for breaking news and valley news.

Desert sun review. Everything is hard to find I can almost never find what I want. I wanted to get a subscription but the price is way too high the Los Angeles Times is less expensive

Local Repeat. Subscribed to this paper as I live in PS and want to keep up with local news. The app has the same headline for several days - I’ve literally been looking at the same headline for 5 days running!

Just awful. Too bad there isn’t a 0 star option

Where is the sort by date?. I’m not reading a lot of new news it seems to be all the same every day.

Great for Snow Birds. This informative local paper works well for those of us who do not live full time in the desert cities. It keeps us informed about events in the area, weather and traffic issues and what goes on among the citizens. Thanks.

Great Desert sun Newspaper. Great local newspaper! Everything you want to know !Everything in local activity also! The paper also includes the separate part of USA newspaper which I love ! You know what is going on in this country also on political news also ! Great customer service ! Darlene Lindstrom

I bought a digital subscription and I have trouble logging in,. Jtntnt

Desert sun website is terrible. The worst!

IS THERE NO NEWS HAPPENING IN THE DESERT?. I check in to the Desert Sun every day but rarely do you folks add new stories. It’s a continual sameness. What’s going on?

Terrific local paper. We keep a digital subscription for the months we are back in the midwest and are impressed by the thorough coverage of local and national news. Kudos to the Desert Sun for its outstanding reporting on the Salton Sea and related environmental issues. As part time residents we rely on the paper to keep us informed on matters we care about.

Good content for CV. Content good but needs option to make text larger

letters to the editor. Why print many more letters listing fallacious claims and arguments by GOP operatives and loyalists than by opponents of the recall unless the editors are in favor of extreme minority rule?

Horrible App. Every other news app allows you to read the articles. Except this one. I will be deleting the app since it’s useless if I cannot actually read the article. Get with the times!

Terrible to try to read. Your e- reader is terrible. It doesn’t fit the screen and won’t enlarge. Bring back you Print Edition app. So much better.

Local news is important. It deserves a better app. I subscribed to the online edition of The Desert Sun in 2020 as the pandemic pushed us indoors and local news was of paramount interest. I continue to support it with my subscription because it’s important. But it’s almost to the point that I can’t read it. How many times does one have to log into a mobile app? Why aren’t my credentials cached? If I’m not blocked from reading “subscriber content,” I’m prompted multiple times to log in (i was pushed to write this review after being asked to log in three times), and then I have to navigate the ridiculous captcha puzzles (really? Captcha on logins? If you want to discourage brute force login attacks, use a WAF and lock accounts after three failed attempts). And the constant home page refreshes! I want to go back to the front page when I read an article, but swiping right just sends me to the previous article, and if I use the back arrow at the top of the page, I have to wait for the page to refresh, and then I must scroll back down to find the next article I want to read. The app seems to think it’s an email app, and a glitchy one at that (why force me to browse through every story? Is that personalized? This isn’t a printed newspaper! I scroll up and down for content and swipe right to navigate back). The app worked great for years, but now its “new user experience” is absolutely terrible. I don’t need personalized news in the app. This is the Coachella Valley. The news is always the same: there was a truck crash somewhere, a body was found in Indio or Desert Hot Springs, a bicyclist was hit by a speeding motorist, there’s a pride event, a golf event, a tennis event, high school sports, an arts event, a food or music or film festival, and road closures due to wind & sand or flooding. I love the local news. Stop complicating it with crappy programming and poorly considered UX.

Terrible app. I subscribed on my iPad to the digital edition. There appears to be no way to log in to my account. Constantly asks me to subscribe.

Desert Sun. Great coverage of local news.

I DON’T LIKE WHAT I SEE‼️. This isn’t the page format that I don’t like and that I can’t change! If this can’t be changed I WILL CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION AND GET THE LA TIMES.

Unable to Print. Nice try, but how does one print a puzzle page from this APP?

Desert Sun. Great updates on breaking news!

Comics. Where are the comics???

? ?. Existing subscriber, logged in with the address we use with the paper but they don't know me. Sort of like missing delivery at home - nothing new with them.

Love the Desert Sun. The Desert Sun allows me to stay current on Coachella Valley news when I'm back at home and not vacationing in the desert. Palm Springs is always growing and changing and the Sun keeps me abreast of these things. I also find relevant news about the state of CA that isn't available in other publications. Interesting stories, nice writing.

There are better sources for news. Poor quality. Often freezes. Content mediocre. Meh. App fully loaded with ads and they hold news hostage for a subscription.

Love this App!. As a new person in the area, this app has been very helpful to me. The layout, information and user access are great! I've already recommended it.

Horrible,. They will not stop billing me after numerous calls, emails etc.

Ads annoying. The app is balky.

Nice local news. Thanks for keeping us informed here in the valley

Good job. Good, up to date News. During this crisis

Great news app. Stable, fast, easy to use

Exceeds expectations. Very timely updates

Navigation very poor. I want to report a missed delivery, or view my vacation hold and there is no option. “My Account” navigation or help does not exist

Great about local news. The app works well for me, even when I read the paper abroad. Much of its content is curious since I don't live in the Valley. However, if I want to find out about a recent cultural event or a future happening, I usually find it. The only bother is the interruption of the video clips midway through.

Why ads?. I already pay for my subscription. Your ads are freaking annoying.

LOGONS. Why do I have to logon every time I access the site from your emails. Now I can’t get in without setting up new password. Please fix!

Desert Sun. I have other newspaper digital papers and this one is the worse! Can’t share with my spouse and digital is poorly updated.

Desert Sun. The app is useless, I suggest not downloading seems to nothing but solicit purchases and subscriptions.

News from 2023 only. Need I say more!

Please wait! The Desert Sun app comments loading...
