Courier Journal Comments & Reviews 2024

The Courier Journal. I no longer live in KY, but I still subscribe to the Louisville Courier Journal. As a Texas A&M journalism student almost forty years ago, we studied the C-J for its exemplary reporting content and layout. I'm glad to see that Gannett has returned to the Pulitzer prize-winning journalism of the Bingham years.

Love it!. I always enjoyed the news paper but I love it even more by being able to read it from the my phone whenever I have free time.

Terrible app. Is there a reason you took away account options?? I went to report a missing delivery, a frequent problem we have, only to find there is no options to manage subscription or report delivery issues. I had to log in on my desktop to report the missing paper. This is the 21st century, you know. Most people do their business by phone.

App not kept up to date. What’s shown on this app barely represents the content of the CJ newspaper or the email that is sent each morning, the info on this app is sketchy and often not timely, CJ staff should either commit to keeping it current or take it down,

Good Notifications timely updates. Would recommend

Let’s get back to the real news!. To much one sided left leaning articles. I believe that true honest reporting on today’s news has been lost from the CJ! The paper is not the same as what I read daily from 1955 till 1983! Sorry to be so blunt, but that’s how I feel!

Courier Journal for Staying Connected. I retired to Florida but maintain a subscription to the CJ. I like to know what is happening in Louisville so that when I visit or chat with friends I am informed. Plus I enjoy the local perspective on the Kentucky Wildcats & U of L. Local reporting always surpasses the national news.

Great local news. Very happy with this local news coverage

Sharing articles. Sharing links to articles is more complicated than it should be. Adding the intro “check out this article from CJ” and the title of the article is unnecessary, and screws up the ability to share to other apps (such as Firefox). The article title shows up when the link embeds so adding it as part of the shared text is superfluous

Pretty good, but has flaws. A nicely presented local news app; however, it's VERY common for a breaking news flash to be a dead link. Fix that inconsistency and I'll give it 5 stars. Updated review: the app is much smoother and links have worked; HOWEVER, clickbait is now embedded in the user experience. May stop subscription.

Very handy and easy to use. I pull it up whenever I have a few minutes of dead time and read an article or two while I'm waiting for whatever it is (doctor, picking up kids, etc).

No Longer a Kentuckian, but still there in my heart!. I moved away from KY a few years ago, but I still have a vested interest in the Hardin and Jefferson Counties. The Currier Journal keeps me up to day with the news and social happenings even while I’m away.

Notifications are not categorized properly. I have only news and breaking news turned on for notifications. I get 10-15 sports notifications a day. It’s so annoying. I may cancel my subscription just for this reason alone.

Not happy. About every four days the app will not sign in to my account- will not recognize my password. I delete the app, reinstall, enter the same password and it works. This AM it will not even let me get to the sign in page- it says Bad Gateway, so I deleted again, restarted my IPad and it still won’t work. I also deleted the cache but that doesn’t help either.

Must read. A must every morning

Sends you top news of the day!. I love how I hear about the top local news as it is reported!

My Data. To log in on this online app it states I Must share data about me. I Do Not like that. You Should Not Require me to share personal information to read the news. How Hypocritical Can You Get??? Want journalists printed from sharing personal knowledge of sources and info but want readers to share personal knowledge to you which literally means sharing with other unknown sources. I certainly didn’t see a Disclaimer about NOT SHARING personal info.

Read every day!. Very easy to read and I like being able read when I have a few minutes.

Print news!. I enjoy getting up in the morning walking to the mailbox getting my paper sitting down with a cup of coffee reading the daily news been doing it for 50 years. I do use the Phone app when I'm away from home but nothing beats the feel of newsprint in your hand. Charles

Works. I get news from all parts of KY from news apps and I love this one

My home when away from the Ville. I long to return to my birthplace but alas have been gone since ‘79

CJ app. HORRIBLE!!!!! Do not subscribe. It hangs up all the time, all the stories' images are impossibly-high resolution (I want the text of the news, not pictures of it. Fine in a printed edition, not fine online.), at least half of the stories have a video component (again, if I want video I'll watch television.) and the writing is horrendous. Most of the reporters and all of the copy editors should be fired. None of them can spell or construct a grammatically correct sentence. Who the heck do these managers hire to write and edit a former Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper? The CJ management appears to have no journalistic pride anymore. Roger Taylor Louisville, KY

CJ. Just renewed my CJ subscription. Dropped it years ago due to severely biased coverage on everything. I’m happy to see well written and well sourced opinions and articles. I have print and digital access and read it every day. Have to say thank you!

Quality journalism. Quality journalism and easy to navigate.

An honest review for the courier journal. It’s pretty good I like it for the more political articles about Louisville and Kentucky as a whole. The only con is that there’s two subscriptions and only one gets rid of the ads but thankfully they are not that annoying.

Great app!!. Very easy to get my news at my fingertips in an instant. Super easy to use the app and layout is very user friendly. Also sends alerts for any break news.

Easy to Use App. I find the CJ app great when I am away from my paper copy. The update alerts let me know what is happening in Louisville.

Keeping tabs on LouKy and beyond. The news app is a quick and efficient way to stay informed about what’s going on in the area.

Worst app ever. I have subscribed, canceled, subscribed called customer service etc. this app will consistently say I have no subscription and not let me read some of the subscriber articles even though I pay for it every month. When I called customer service they said they have no record of my account and I need to call Apple to fix it.

Make journalism great again!. As a subscriber I expect great local and National journalism from you guys. Do what others have forgotten. Bring non partisan journalism back. Make The Courier Journal the regional go to for honest journalism. It’s what the people want, and will be the main factor bringing older print media back to greatness in the digital age. You have the power!

Support Local. We need local news to investigate and report on local politicians, businesses, and issues.

Needs improvement. Been using this app for a few months now. It is fine for headline news. However, I have a few suggestions. 1. The obituary interface needs to be improved. When you click on a name to read the info, and then click to go back, you get sent all the way back to the beginning. Surely there is a way so that when you click back you get sent back to the list of names instead of all the way back to page one where you select the obituary section again. 2. Sections other than headlines need to be updated more frequently. For example, the Shopping & Fashion section has had the same stories on it for months. Some new articles, please!

Hate new app. Loved receiving the online version laid out in typical print format. Knew exactly where to find what I wanted, especially daily sports listings, TV guide, events listings, home sales and such. Can no longer get the old app with that to work. Can’t find a way to get it on new app. CJ has one foot in the grave and the other slipping over the edge.

Horrible service. USA Today and the Courier Journal service is horrible. Print delivery is inconsistent. I have missed the paper 8 out of the last 14 days. I’ve been a subscriber for 40 plus years. The website doesn’t allow me to sign in. The application will not allow me to read anymore articles. My account is current. It’s time to get your act together.

Glad to have. Glad I have this source of information

OK but keep working. A great source during the day for local news. The updated national news through USA today is weak to lacking. Keeps improving at the local level.

Feels like home. I grew up in L’ville, haven’t lived there in many years but still consider it home. Reading the C-J makes me feel connected.

Long time free user. Took advantage of low cost offer and signed up. Worth it!!

Great way to keep up. Easiest way I’ve seen to keep up with the news, in Kentucky

Local and National news. This app is great for keeping abreast of local news. Their affiliation with USA Today is great for the latest national news.

Most Difficult Service Provide. I have just decided they discourage folk from the printed copy and give poor service, gives messed up printed copies, arrogant carriers who complain. That the paper cannot be folded off the print line because of their time crunch, when I lived in Windsor Forest I stopped getting the paper because Priddy would not put it in plastic on wet days and in the CJ brick box that we had built. On the occasion it was put in plastic, it was thrown on the ground in the wet grassy area. Now to discourage purchase, they change the price for the newspaper and charge for unknown services i.e. “color edition(or the like)”, paper notice, or “special edition(or such)” and do not notify you of the days they do not deliver due to snow. I though that once I moved fromWindsor Forest that things would change. At least Priddy folded the paper correctly and seldom doubled those ad inserts. The guy who is carrier now,is so anxious to use our restrooms, that he does not have time to just give you one of inserts for ads, he is just wanting to get his money. Well I thought digital would be better, but this thing does not accept my password and then as it is changed it does not accept it again, this is a shameful excuse for a newspaper service or any service.

Poor Customer Service. I don’t even know where to begin. I’m so frustrated with CJ. You can’t even call them with a problem anymore. No customer service on weekends so if you don’t receive the newspaper you’ve been getting for 4 decades, well, you’re just out of luck! If you call during the week, you MAY get a call back hours later, as their employees work from home as one opened up to me on the phone about 3 months ago when this happened, AGAIN. The CSR’s are very polite but their hands are tied. Honestly feel bad for these ppl bc they get the blame for the delivery department’s fault. You’ll never get the Sunday paper like they use to bring you when they messed up. If I wanted a digital paper, I wouldn’t have signed up for a REAL NEWSPAPER! I will cancel this as of tomorrow bc I’m tired of dealing with CJ. At one time, this was a very good paper. Not anymore! If you see a one star, it’s bc I had to give it otherwise they done deserve one star!

Informed!. If you love to be on top of the news with updated notifications, you need to use this app!

Courier journal. Driving me crazy. Can’t get my iPad to show a larger sized section. Can’t sign in or out, just get the headlines from several days ago. Just noticed that I was charged again for the e edition but not very happy.

Errors galore. I can’t remember how many times I’ve found errors in this paper! Misspelled words, incorrect grammar, and believe it or not, a story on page 1 that said was continued on page 6, but the story was not there...or anywhere else in the paper. Guess the CJ is too cheap to have someone review the paper prior to printing. Last week, instead of saying U of L, the title said “U off L”. I sent a message to both the accuracy email and the Editor’s email and never heard a word. No correction was ever made.

App is nearly useless in managing your account. I want to put a hold on delivery of my print edition, I was able to sign in in one try today, though that alone is usually a frustrating issue. Once signed in, there is no option I could find to manage my account. It only has a manage my i-Tunes account. My subscription is not through I-Tunes. I tried through the website and it’s not working properly either. I get errors or page missing messages. Another complaint- the privacy settings cannot be changed through the app. It explains what they are, but does not allow options. Can’t figure out why a huge media company like Gannet can’t get a decent working website and an app to work properly and actually be useful.

The Print is to small to read. The Print on this ap is to small for me to read

Can't log in. Since the update, I am unable to log in to the app. Spent several minutes on the phone with Diane in "customer service" who initially told me that it must be a problem with my device (iPad).. Finally acknowledged that there is a problem with the app. I was insulted by her attitude. Her advice was basically to forget the app and log in through the browser......why have the app???

Bring back the old app.. Perhaps this new app will grow on me' but for now I find it clunky and unresponsive as I move from page to page. In my opinion the previous app was not broken so I am puzzled about why you decided to replace it. This app freezes on my screen requiring me to turn off iPad to gain access. Fix the bugs with an update, please!

Horrible programming, worse support. I’ve been trying to get this to work for three or four months and I’m totally frustrated with their buggy sign on programming that goes into endless loops on air conditions and are even worse tech-support if you even want to call it that. I had to cancel my paid subscription once and start in with a new email address because they could not figure out how to change my old information, which was wrong. Now I am having the exact same problem I’m just simply trying to change my password so I can’t log on even though I have paid for two months already this app is not ready for prime time

Appreciate the Courier-Journal app. Living in the Lexington market area and being a true University of Louisville fan, the Courier-Journal app is my major source of information for my teams. Thank you.

Top Notch. All the breaking news is spot on ! Keep it up 🔥👌😳😎👍🏻🤘🏾🦾🥊

Very disappointed. Don't like portrait mode only. Everything is too big. Can't get to manage home delivery from here. I still prefer the real paper

Notifications are a bit much. But they’re optional. App is easy to use and understand. Happy to support the courier journal

User-friendly and CHEAP!. Love my CJ app on my phone and iPad. Love the articles and coverage of the derby especially. Worth the money!

Too glitchy. It's not intuitive and functions that we are supposed to have access to like comics and crossword are impossible to find. You have to use the search bar, and then when it goes to the page, it glitches and freezes and never loads.

Constant crashes. You would think a major company could create an app that doesn’t constantly crash. This one crashed multiple times every time I use it. I support journalism with my money but, dang, y’all make it hard.

Poor performance. This is just a so-so app. It always crashed and slow to download. Plus been trying to change my payment method and it won’t let me into my account

Notifications. I only have Breaking News notifications turned on and I am notified about EVERYTHING. The opening of a new restaurant is not breaking news.

terrible terrible. Please go back to the old app This new one is hard to use can’t hardly make full screen on my ipad. can’t two finger print to enlarge..can’t scroll screen left to right using one finger

This is a terrible app - not user friendly.. I have tried to manage my account 3 times without success. It keeps sending me back to the sign in screen

This new app is horrible!. I must've had to sign in at least 10 times and I never did find the comics!

Local newspaper. Local quality news is critical in times like these. Excellent journalism in a modern format.

Good Read. Great Info. Works well. Lots of content available.

Like it but....!. Nice app. But too hard to find how to switch between formats. It should be easy.

Periodically pops up video ads. The latest release force you to have a subscription to read unlimited articles, so why are we still having pop up video ads?????????

Very useful app. Full-featured app for r adding the e-paper and moving about among articles and sections.

How do you cancel this subscription. I thought I canceled the subscription and it keeps charging me and it won’t let me cancel great product guys

Courier Journal. I switched to the digital subscription and I am very disappointed. The same stories appear there for multiple days and sometimes multiple weeks. I will be canceling my subscription.

The local news and quality, in-depth reporting. The Courier-Journal delivers essential reporting on what’s happening in Louisville and how we connect to the world.

CJ is great. For many years have loved the Courier. My mother loved the Sunday magazine section especially Cissy Greg’s great recipes. Those were the good old days!

Steady c-j. The app is well-organized and easy on the eyes. Photos are a particular strength--high quality and well-edited. An all-around, good format for news.

Ads. The ads while paying for a subscription are awful. Difficult to scroll through stories without the ads interfering

Very timely and great info!. Keeps me up on the issues I need to know. Thanks CJ!!

Very informative.. Enjoy this app to get up to minute news!

Glitchy on iPad. Constantly asks for us to log into App, even though it shows us logged in. Have reinstalled App and it does not fix the problem

Up to date. Love CJ and how I got and am getting very timely updates as things happen during the protests.

Better than before by far. Rg

Takes forever to load. Very slow app. Spins and spins and spins. Some of pages are not updated with recent news. Crimes and courts has been running same headline for weeks. Would be handy app if was faster and updated frequently.

Great App. I am really enjoying this CJ app. And I love the updates that keep me informed about all things about Louisville and Kentucky.

Getting better CJ. Improvement every month is apparent. Keep it up.

Delivery problem. I’m having a terrible time getting my paper put on my porch. The carrier refuses to do it. I’m disabled and have trouble going up & down steps. I’ve called & called & emailed but to no avail. I’m really extremely frustrated that this can’t be resolved & very upset with the CJ

Having trouble. Just about three days a week the site does not come up, but opens to a general page of stories most of which are old!

Loads very slowly. I use it every day, but it loads very slowly. Sometimes up to a minute of a blank screen before it loads Each article seems to have similar photos attached. Why don’t you use the photos once?

CJ. I love having the feel of newsprint but when I can't or when it is the middle of the day, this app is great.

Horrible service. Not sure what all changed but I enjoyed the CJ on line for years now I can even access it. Going blind just trying to sign in and open and still not seeing the news paper like I have done for years.

Subscription functionality broken. I am a subscriber though the app is incapable of figuring that out. App Store and my list of subscriptions knows, but CJ not so much. Might as well cancel payment since I can’t read subscriber content anyway.

Courier that keeps Louisville informed and connected through the COVID-19. Makes me feel safe. Thank you

Digital Sub Doesn’t Work. Despite my subscription the app will not let me read subscriber stories and gave no response to my inquiry about that problem.

It won’t update. I pay for the fancy version of this and it hasn’t updated in days - should go back to home delivery by mail - would be more accurate

Doesn’t Know Me. Even when it recognizes me as logged in (pretty much all the time), it doesn’t allow me to open so-called “For Subscriber” articles. Maybe I’m confused; is there another way to get logged in besides a subscription?

Great news!. Easy to navigate and read. Well done!

IU Hoosiers coverage. Why even have the section “IU Hoosiers”? There has been no “recent news” in weeks. Example: the football coverage is 3 or 4 weeks old. Sad.

Communist Rag. This paper hasn’t been right since the Bingham’s sold it. Editorials they try to pass as news every day, and sometimes on the front pages. Biased reporting. Nothing more than pages is Democratic propaganda.

Courier Journal Louisville. Great app, easy to use. I get both the print and digital editions. MaryB22

Great Paper. I’ve been reading it for 60 years. A beacon of truth in a red state of lies.

Review. I enjoy reading the paper everyday-wish you could access more of the paper with the subscription

Great except for the ads. Love the app, and the reporting- but I pay for ad free on the website, and hate seeing ads in the app.

Worth every penny. I have really enjoyed my digital subscription to the Courier Journal. Great reporting.

Gas Prices. Your article did not say one word about Biden killing fossil fuel. Prevention of loans, closing pipeline, crushing oil leases, stopping fracking. Wait till the fall when you can’t pay $10 a gallon or heat your home. Tell me how faithful you are to the bafone in Washington that’s ruining our country. I’m a Vietnam veteran and Eagle Boyscout. I hate you liberals!!!!!!
