Ads. Nice new version but now comes with ads even for paying subscribers

Unusable. This app is unusable. A full page ad for Haaretz social media pops up every time you try scrolling, and clicking anywhere brings you to a Facebook link. There's no apparent way to get back to the article -- or any part of Haaretz, for that matter! Haaretz is a great news source, but their app programming skills -- especially after forcing their readers to pay up -- are nothing short of atrocious. Don't bother with this app, and just log on to the site through a browser.

Can’t login. Application keeps telling me “network error” when I try to login and read articles. That’s not how paid subscription should work.

Complete failure. Crashes. Exits articles constantly and goes to some weird ad page. An altogether awful app. I am hoping for a quick update. The content is fabulous. It's just the app that is so bad. As of Nov 18, 2012 -- Improved, but still crashes ALL THE TIME. I can't read articles in today's paper because they won't download at all. Again, the content is among the best in the world, but the app is one of the worst among hundreds I've tried.

The app crashes constantly. While Haaretz is a serious newspaper, the app for Haaretz online crashes after each attempt to read one article on an iPad. After paying for a yearly subscription, this is very disappointing.

Great addition to my Newsstand!. Finally I can read Haaretz on my iPad. The app looks very nice and works well in both landscape and portrait view modes. Good quality photos, and the word count below listed articles is a neat feature. Nice array of stories mirrors the print edition, and no ink prints on my fingers..

Update screwed up. Opening the app I get forced to update to a newer version, which is the phone version, which is not optimal for the iPad. I liked their older version of the iPad app better. Their technology seems to be getting worse. Great nes and reporting but crappy on the technical side.

Efficient. Clean and efficient - it gets the job done. A must for iPad news addicts.

Shameful, waste of time, blows chunks!. Constant interruptions with full page ads, especially repeated requests to link to Facebook which I do not want to do, ever. Navigation falls into traps that require killing app in background to escape. "Contact us" mail link doesn't work. Single-handedly destroys stereotype of Israelis being smart and gifted in high-tech. Only freiers would download this app.

Requires paid subscription. They should say straight up what the app costs. You can't even read a synopsis without getting the subscription.

Very friendly app. Just downloaded and subscribed to Haaretz on my iPad. The UI is friendly and clear, and subscription process is quick - when you subscribe you also get free access to Haaretz site. The combination of breaking news stream with a daily edition is brilliant! Haaretz is the best news source about Israel, and this app is now part of my daily schedule.

Dreck. Page scrolling is hardly fluid; I have to keep scrolling up to get back to where I was reading. Why is Select a separate download? Even after downloading it, it doesn't seem that the section to delete prior downloads words, since it looks as if I've not downloaded anything. Buggy and very limited; better off reading in Safari. I thought they had decent IT in Israel, but perhaps not.

Use the website. The old version of the app, bad as it was, had some advantages over using the website (you could download the articles and read them on airplane mode, for example). Now, all of these advantages are gone.... Use the website and save yourself the trouble of download this app!

Natan Naimark. I fully agree with reviewer Stuart Wilder. I have also tried writing to them, and haven't received any response. I would add that those problems come from before october 6, and that (for example right now, october 9) the app is not fully updated. It shows for example the opinion pieces from friday, whereas the web site shows the updated ones. Very disapointing, and very enervating.

App works fine. ...but be prepared for liberalism that makes the New York Times look like right wing extremists.

Disaster. Crashes all the time. Log in sometimes works, usually doesn't.

Not good. Takes far too much disk space in use. Bugs. Badly placed ad. Unhelpful product support. I hope this gets better. Months have passed since I first wrote this. But it the problem hasn't been fixed. Most problematic is the amount of disk space it takes up. Now, it is 1.8 gb, with no back issues saved. Not sure how much longer I will subscribe, if they don't fix this. It's a lot of money for a bad app.

Comprehensive coverage of Middle East news!. This is a great app to get Haaretz on the iPad. Along with subscription you get access to Haaretz.com which you will need to access to if you want to be able to read comments. For some unfortunate reason I cannot figure out, I am unable to get comments to display. Otherwise, I find the articles engaging and the news reporting excellent!

Haaretz iPad version doesn’t support landscape mode!. Haaretz iPad version doesn’t support landscape/horizontal mode. All media and books support how one wants to read the device. I reported this to Haaretz and they aren’t interested in fixing it. So be cautious before you use the app.

Pretty good newspaper, terrible app. I love reading Gideon Levy's editorials, and I was hoping to do that with this app. But it doesn't load, it just shows the blue intro screen forever and ever. Better to just access Haaretz through Safari.

Constant crashing. This app crashes regularly, apparently on an article by article basis. And you have to pay for this privilege.

Full screen ads are disruptive. I'm paying for a subscription and this app is disrupting my reading of every article with fullscreen ads. I will now be deleting it and reading the website, which is far less obtrusive. Which is stupid, because apps are supposed to give you a clean and easy reading experience, not be LESS pleasurable than the web. This app gets a GIANT FAIL in my book. It's a shame.

Great reporting, awful tech. It seems Haaretz has not maintained the iPad app. It is outdated and buggy—as many others have noted. I cannot it to recognize my online subscription.

Not a retina app. I have to say, I'm very disappointed that anyone would launch an iPad app now and not support the retina iPad properly. The text and the fonts are OK, but the images, graphics and logo look horrible. Really, they couldn't even create a retina Haaretz logo for the top of the page. Haaretz content is always great and I'm glad to be able to get in on the iPad. I'd just like a decent app in order to consume it.

Terrible Navigation. Besides scrolling through the entire paper (and not finding key articles), without a search engine on the iPad it is impossible to find what one is looking for. AND it does not look like Haaretz cares - the situation has been aggravating for years: look at the number of bad reviews.

Terrible-doesn't work and no support. I paid for this back in May as I received numerous messages telling me the iPad would arrive any day. After an over-two month wait, it's finally here. And it doesn't work. And customer service wants me to tell them why it doesn't work. Stick with your browser. Not worth the time, energy and certainly not worth any money!

Ugh. Had to delete and read in safari. Paged scrolling is awful Haaretz select is a download for some reason Takes up too much disk space after like a week of reading

junk. installed it twice but once opened it never showed anything but a blue field with the word "Haaretz". Can't believe it could be so bad!

very good (best?) reporting on Israel, Middle East. i very much appreciate being able to read Haaretz, getting a good take on Israeli politics.the articles are well-written and, while slanted to the left (my own bias) include more conservative opinions also. one request: i would appreciate it if we could select and copy text — in my case for pasting into tweets.

Too many ads!. This app has a lot of full screen ads, even though I am a subscriber. I will not be a future subscriber if this continues.

It has issues, but customer service worked with me. I like Haaretz, and have been excited about the app. I did have a few issues signing in last week, but customer service after a few days did get back to me and engaged in a timely email dialog and got the problem resolved. I recommend it.

EPIC FAIL!. You have to PAY A subscription fee ($129/yr or $12.99/mo) to read articles that are offered for FREE on the internet. EPIC FAIL on the ads too..FULL PAGE ADS! I am deleting this app.

Reasonable cost?. What are other media apps from Israel on Israeli politics, social issue and Jewish daily life? I am looking for some that are free or very low cost. In app purchases are prohibited for me at this time, and I so very much want my daily Israel news fix

It is impossible to cancel this subscription!. It is impossible to cancel this subscription! The app has a Manage Subscription link in Settings, but it brings you to a general iTunes page. Searching on Haaretz brings you to the Harvard Review.

Two shortcomings. 1. The stories seem to be updated only once a day. Today the iPad edition was still carrying an item that had been totally overtaken by events and had been completely replaced on the web and iPhone versions. 2. If you do not use your iPad for email ( or social media ) the app will frequently freeze as it asks for feedback (the reverting to the social media page that another reviewer mentioned) as the app cannot find email or social media This is a serious problem and I cannot find a solution. The general layout is less user friendly than other news apps I use and could be improved.

Unlock articles!!. Unlock articles

Bad Enough to Think About Unsubscribing. Frequently freezes in the title page. Frequently crashes when trying to bring up an article. Article introductions are incomplete. "Related Articles" are un-dated. Is the the famed Israeli technology? Shame, shame.

Great App. Great App, love it

Limited use. Nicely laid out but useless unless you subscribe. Nowadays you can get the same news from so many other sources for free

Disappointing. The app is ok in general but two things make it very frustrating to use: 1) most articles require you to download the entire issue to read them and this takes forever; 2) pages scroll down an entire screen at a time so that if you scroll before reading the full screen you lose the bottom of the screen you haven't yet read. Because of these two flaws I find myself more often reading Haaretz on my computer or iPhone.

Worst haaretz app yet. I'm not sure why they keep failing so miserably with these apps. It's sad that I cancel my subscription because of an inability to present me with a newspaper. Honestly simply scanning the paper into a PDF would be a huge improvement over this.

Can't get beyond iPad registration screen. Registration screen does not allow the required country selection. Technical registration bug.

Horrible. Absolutely horrible attempt to create profit. Most articles require a subscription (unlike almost every other newspaper app out there). I used to read Haaretz everyday, however their latest attempts to make money are just frustrating.

Crashes. Since new iOS update today, app crashes on trying to open. This despite reset, removing and reinstalling app. Too bad. Wanted news on Brussels.

Not as it appears. This is a complete rip off under the guise of being free, you will find almost everything is restricted unless you fork over 12.99 a month. The only thing that's free is the app, Haaretz charges for the content. Apple should be a little more up front on this one

Ok first attempt...but needs work. As a subscriber, I found the presentation good, but the user interface in this first version has "traps" that are ridiculous. Particularly annoying is a continuous popup that says "thank you for using the app" That you have to pinch to get rid of. It pops up all the time while scrolling the app making the web verision of haaretz much easier to read than this app. In some cases, the only way to get rid of the popup is to terminate the app. A particularly annoying feature is the "auto scrolling" that jumps to the next paragraph when turning pages in the same article, typically hiding the text I wanted to read. It should just scroll like a normal web page!!! Good luck programmers. I'll try it again when you update.

Worst news app I’ve used - and I have used a lot of them. Horrible interface. And this from the StartUp Nation?! Seems to display only in portrait mode. Looks like an Iphone app on the Ipad. Way better to just use a web browser, although that does not allow effective off-line reading.

Truly Miffed!. I have a subscription to the online version of the paper so, how come I don't have automatic access to the app??? Absolutely not right. So I have to have two subscriptions to the same publication now? Love the paper hate the ethics!

Last version. It is not free as advertised. I would like to nu-installed, how? Thanks
