Junk. Does not work at all - junk!!!

Not great. I’ve been using it in Tokyo and it doesn’t work super well, pretty finicky. Google translates camera function works better most of the time

Trial is a joke. If you want to "try" this, be aware that 10 presses of the freeze button pretty much is your trial for the day! Trying to lock in a word, one would try to press the "grab" or "pause" button. I tried a single word, pausing 10 times, and never got a valid translation; therefore I never really got to "try" this app out. The developers really needs to rethink the number 10 if they wish to sell this product. I was so frustrated with the "end" of my trial never really giving me a "trial" that I gave this app no further consideration and deleted it -- might be a good app, but I'll never "trial" it again to find out!

Buy it again and again. It works, and I paid for lifetime use. However, the app installs on other devices as the unpaid limited version. So the unlocked iPhone I want to bring to use in China does not have the full version, nor does the iPad I intend on bringing. I have e-mailed the Waygo folks several times and have not heard back about how to utilize the lifetime use on other devices, or if in fact you must pay $7 for every device. I have never heard of an app that requires separate purchases to unlock features on multiple devices.

Funny but not useful. Translated random words into sentence that makes absolutely no sense

Dr.. This app worked great in China! Did well at getting the main point across, and all the locals were amazed and would hover and watch while the app did its thing. I didn't give it 5 stars because sometimes the translations added in weird words, doesn't do well when the words are written close to each other (vertically), and it doesn't do well at reading some stylized characters.

Must have app in China. Can’t use Chinese apps without this. All I do is screenshot and import into Waygo if I don’t know what to do. Problem solved!

lol doesn’t work. I tried translating japanese characters on a mask that had Kokichi Ouma on it and all it did was translate everything that wasn’t Japanese 😃

Paid for upgrade but will not install / restore upgrade. I paid for the Chinese version, followed the directions how to “Restore” the upgrade, removed Waygo, tried again. No joy. Tried upgrading to the full, three language version. No joy. Contacted the developer. No joy. I can only hope I did not get charged because I want to run, not walk, away from this app.

Steady hand and ideal conditions need to making work. I'm on holidays in japan for 2 weeks so I figured could be really helpful. After checking some online short reviews I decided ti get the paid version. Seeing the app work in real life I'd say it was wasted money. The recognition only works if you really have some steady hands as well computer text. Anything but text in the OCR window confuses the system. I would not recommend it. The positive about the app is that it can work offline.

Didn’t help me. I downloaded it to read cooking instructions for some Japanese food I bought. Just one short paragraph. I tried it and it told me I had 0 free translations left of 10 per day even though this was the only time that I ever used it. It then prompted me to buy the full app. Not a good way to attract customers.

Chinese. It does not translate everything that i have gave it but most of it, i bought the full version and overall happy, i take screen shots and open app and works fast

Frustrating for Japanese. I am in Japan and I've tried to use this app for translating Japanese on many occasions. I upgraded to the paid version. The translations are really poor. Many things completely not food related translate into food items. For example, there's "fatty tuna" all over the place. Food items on a menu seem to translate much quicker and seemingly more accurately. Maybe that's where the developers focused their attention? I have used it on some Chinese characters with the Chinese translation, and that seems to occur much more quickly and accurately. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this app except as an emergency back-up to avoid eating anything you'd rather not eat.

Don't use for Japanese. I was too desperate to find a translator in Tokyo and made the mistake of wasting $6.99 on this useless inferior quality crap before discovering one minute later that Google Translate does it ten times better and for free. If I could just get my $6.99 back I would erase this review, but no refunds exist - conveniently for them I suppose. Make sure your software works before selling it!

It crashes. Please update the app, it crashes when I use it in iphone 11.

Awesome app. I use this app every time I go to China. No need to ask for English menu, as long as you have a good connection:-)

DO NOT BUY! WASTE OF MONEY!. In Japan - This app does not work well, if at all. Google is free and better (but still not great). I didn’t find out until my money was already wasted.

Disappointing. Tried this app on holiday in Japan. Just looking at some characters causes the translations to cycle rapidly so it's impossible to read and the '10' translations were used up in less than a second of real world use looking at a single picture without giving a single useful translation. The developers need to only translate when they are 100% sure of what they are looking at. And only change the translation once every couple seconds to the one that was most likely in the last few seconds, not just in the instant it's looking. I can't recommend this app as anything to rely on for translation.

Does not work for Japanese. I've lived and worked in Japan for years and have had this app for a long time now. It has never translated anything I needed, ever! Today I needed a few very simple Kanji translated from an appliance. I've studied Japanese for years, but I did not know a couple simple Kanji. My wife (Japanese) helped me, saying these were 2nd grade Kanji and was very surprised an app advertised with this capability could not recognize it. Try it if you want, just be warned that it WILL NOT help you when you need it and for the love of God don't use it as a study aid as when, if ever, it does give a result, it will either be totally incorrect or very strange. A perfect example of this would be a string a kanji and hiragana but like only recognizing some characters that it translated to make another word, etc. In English, it would be like seeing, "translate" but the app only sees the letters, "ran" in the word and confidently telling you that, "ran" is what that word says.

No good. This app is useless and does absolutely nothing.

Waygo - Japanese. Marginal at best. Useable information from the app less than 20% of the time. This is true for labels, menus, signage. Especially poor with stylized scripts. The best thing I can say is that it’s better than nothing, but not by much. Glad it didn’t cost more than $8USD.

Fast and accurate. This app is perfect for translating Chinese (haven’t tried Japanese). I live in China, and I can verify that the app is nearly always accurate on menus and signs. You see the translation right over the original (augmented reality). In addition, it’s extremely fast, and works offline. I can’t even imagine how sophisticated the tech must be that went into this. I’ve seen other similar attempts at Optical Character Recognition, and none of them work as well.

Helpless without. The app isn't perfect, but it's close. All you have to do is point your camera at Chinese characters and like waiving a magic wand, the pinion and translation pop up. Very helpful for figuring out menus, the buttons on washers and air conditioners, and airport signs!

Useless. While in Guangzhou and Hong Kong, the app was of no help. Chinese traveling with me laughed at the things it came up with.

Paid app performs poorly. Paid for the app, but worked worse than free google translate (had to use vpn in China though).

Extremely frustrating and upset I wasted money on this. Its a super frustrating app to use. I got this while I was in japan hoping it would help me read kanji. However, this app requires so much patience and time its not effective as an app. You need to absolutely not shake ur phone when using it but thats impossible since its a hand held device and its bound to shake a bit. It doesn't read it right away even if you try your best to stand still and make sure you have a lot of light and when it does it only reads it partially. Then, the photo feature doesn't work it'll say it cant read it even though its a crisp photo. Definitely NOT worth the price at all. Don't waste your money on this!

Great app for traveling. Very useful app while in Asia. It comes handy to navigate menus written in Chinese.

It has limitations but it works... sometimes. If the characters I am trying to translate are at least 1cm tall and black on white, I have had pretty good luck getting an understandable translation. If the text is small and very tightly spaced, not so much. I have taken to carrying a couple of white plastic cards notched so I can use them to letterbox the characters of interest. This helps but the app still struggles. Also, I have best luck with Chinese (writing this in Taiwan) then Japanese and finally Korean.

Useless in Japan. Everything says “fatty tuna”. Don’t buy for japan.

Look elsewhere- not any good. I bought this app for a trip to China and Japan. It was completely useless. I would center the characters right within the orange brackets and the app would tell me there wasn’t any text. This was such a waste.

Is getting me through China!. I use this app every day (upgraded to full version and best couple of bucks I've spent on an app in a long time). I can decipher menus and store items that would have left me more than confused. Things aren't black and white but a few key words will let you decide if you want chicken or intestines at a restaurant!

With a little practice, it's a worthy translation assistant.. Considering the complexity of deciphering Chinese characters in various conditions, I've found this app to be useful. Learning to adjust it much like a magnifying glass took a little practice but it's provided translation of key words on grocery products, household appliance controls, street signs, and mandarin text books. I think it's a worthy translation tool to have amongst a few others I use to navigate living in China.

Please Add History. My hand brushed a button and erased my translation. If there were a HISTORY button, I could have resumed what I was doing. My loss. Please consider.

Why didn't I buy this earlier?. So I've been in China for two weeks now and I have one more to go and I finally decided to try this app. In restaurants it works awesome! I love going to local places that don't have English or picture menus and this app allows me to find out what I am getting into and actually get the food I am craving. I wish I could go back in time two weeks and buy it then!

Chinese to English. Have only used for Chinese but it got me through my first trip to China with very few problems

It works VERY well, with a few caveats. The translation is pretty fast and quite accurate (as far as I can tell) as long as: 1) the lighting is good enough (turn on flash if required), 2) contrast of the characters against background is high, 3) you hold it steady. It takes a little practice, but once you have it figured out it is fast and accurate. I am in China on a very short notice business trip and have used it for probably about 50 translations already. Dead accurate on today's lunch menu which had no English on it nor did anyone there speak English. The $2 cost for a week of translation is great. I just do not understand why anybody complains about $2 for something you couldn't even dream of having a few years ago. Downside: it uses a LOT of battery power very quickly. Use it judiciously.

Not for Japanese. I downloaded this app to see if it works, and if it does, then to use it for Chinese. Since I already speak Japanese, I decided to test it out. I would say this app gets it right 40-50% of the time. Mostly it translates extremely literally to a point where it doesn't make sense in English, gets the pronunciation wrong, or doesn't read the right kanjis. But then again it works for some words. I would say don't rely on it too much, but use it if you need to. I don't know for the Chinese.

Don’t buy!. This app is absolute trash! I bought the paid version and none of the translations are correct. Doesn’t recognize the majority of characters and translates every other word into ‘tuna’ or ‘salmon’ when they are not even fish or food items. Do not waste your money on this terrible attempt at an app!!

I love it—helps with foreign language students!. It is very close to perfect. The only problem is that it has constraints on the text you are translating. Other then that,(and the ads) it’s great and hopefully it gets further developed 👍

So valuable!. I spent 5 weeks in China and this was life changing. I was able read menus which was the most fun and entertaining. With all the choices in every restaurant large or small, i was able to try all the things i wanted! I read menus like novels so it was incredible! It was great for reading train tickets, signage and descriptions. I brought back ingredients and have been able to translate the packaging and recipes in Asian grocery stores here in the US!

Works very well. A little trouble with handwritten or dark background but really very useful

Can't read or translate. The app can't seem to recognize 75% of the text I focus on and the few times it does recognize it, the translations are poor.

Amazing!!. I am at Yale where interactions with Chinese students and Chinese Medical Schools has been active for decades. This app has totally changed my way of translating with my students in China in that the written translations are flawless and extremely fast! The developers should be internationally recognized! Imagine what they would do for world communications with similar software for Indian languages, Japanese, Russian! Endless!

Would rate this a zero if I could!! Such a waste!!. I got this app because my grandmas mom gave her this vase years ago and it has Chinese letters on it and we don’t know what it says. Once I got the app it immediately took me to a button that said free trial. I went along with it and took the picture of the vase and it didn’t translate!! I pressed the button translate and it kicked me out of the entire app!! Don’t get this app!!

Not working for Japanese language. I just went on a trip to Japan and though this app would help but it disn’t. I tried it many time to translate menus and sentences but it would translate in something totally different. For exemple I wanted to translate a brochure about the city of Kyoto and it would translate “fatty tuna”. It is so off. Very disappointing for Japanese language anyway.

Great app!. Very awesome, wish I had it when I lived in China!

It helped me successfully order a meal in China. This app is not only cool in how it works with optical character recognition and the camera. It is also cool how it works so well in translation. Sure, the app has crashed a couple times and every now and again the translations is awkward or unavailable, but it works and I have used it successfully. I live in Asia and travel around the region and this app has worked in most of the places that I have been such as Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. I'm very pleased with this app, try it out.

Great for traveling China.. I have been using WAYGO alongside other apps that do similar translations and have found that WAYGO is the one to use whenever we are at a restaurant staring at a menu blankly. The translations are less literal and make ordering much less scary. Hint: If you have multiple iOS devices to install this app on after purchasing the upgrade, you will want to go into settings and "upgrade" on each of your other devices. You will then see a RESTORE feature in the top right. Tap it and as long as you have in app purchases enabled it will upgrade the new device.

Doesn’t even work for one character translation. I don’t know why it won’t even translate single characters. It keeps telling me there is no text in the box no matter how clear the picture is, or where I space it between the orange brackets. And this is a single typed character on a white piece of paper to test the app. It’s way too finicky for me to bother with.

Absolutely useless.. I’ve tried this app on 2 different occasions, months apart and both times it only translates one to two words in a line of text. And then I get a box asking if I want to upgrade. No. If it can’t translate 2 lines of a clothing label, how could it ever translate a menu as the professional ad has it seem. Makes me question if the highly positive feedback is self-promotion. After trying the app, that’s what it looks like.

Bad. This app does not work in the way you would want it to. It said the character "love" was "hair". The character "hello" was made into a direct translation of "you good" which is not what you need. This app needs fixing.

Awesomeness. If you don't speak mandarin this app is killer. And free!

Huge Potential. An amazing little app that packs a lot of wow! Still cutting it's teeth on the accurate translations but has massive potential! Well done.

Not good at translation.. Attached random words to random places, no help at all.

Useless. Can't recognise text most of the time. When it can translation is ridiculously wrong. Good for a laugh, but just a poorly made app with no development. God help you if you travel with this app.

Accurate to a point. Not entirely accurate however read between the lines, use the context of the situation and your own judgement and it's great. Kickstarts the understanding of this complicated language (Chinese). Thank you for developing this great app.

Poor quality. Laggy and the translations are questionable at best. Only works up close. By the time you focus and get two words translated, the free trial is over. Waste of time and I wouldn’t spend money on it.

Useless. Downloaded this tool, tested it on local Japanese restaurant menu, seems working. Ok, this has got to be a good start I thought. Went to Japan last few weeks and this thing couldn't even give a half understandable translation at all times, totally useless!

Super useful. Spent two weeks in China and got heaps of use out of this app. Translates live in-camera and doesn't require an internet connection to work. You need good contrast and legibility in the text you're translating, but it was almost always enough to translate menus and signage.

Absolutely useless.... Not worth the download. The text appears inconsistently on the screen making it impossible to read, And not worth your time.

Useless for Japanese Translations. I used this app during my trip to Japan. I mainly utilised it for simple tasks such as translating signs and menus. It can probably correctly identify around 10% of the words. Which is absolutelt pointless. Google translate cannot do real time translations, but is far more accurate. Use the FREE google translate instead.

Useless. Tried to use it in Japan recently and it wasn't able to translate one single word or sign. Don't bother it will just infuriate you like it did me.

Disappointed. I had high hopes for Waygo Japanese to English. The single line translation couldn’t ever find any test, despite it being in the brackets. The multi-line option mostly produced gibberish.

Good stuff. Great for reading menus

Really, really good!. I used to use another similar app to translate Chinese via the camera but that app could only translate single words, this app seems to be able to translate entire sets of words and the translations are not "Chinglish" translations but rather grammatically correct English... Plus being able to instantly see the pinyin and be able to pronounce words you haven't yet learnt is extremely valuable! To me, $7 is extremely good value for money when you consider what you get (expensive in comparison to other apps, but this truly is a learning tool! Better than a text book!)

Hilariously bad. Have tried this on a range of Japanese text. Not even close. A few minutes of amusement but that's it. Deleted.

Great. This is THE app for translating restaurant menus and signs in China. But be warned, it eats your battery! I’ve bought a battery pack so I can use it all day.

Great app. Wish it could show pronunciation in Cantonese as well

Works well. Have used this several times for business translations. Worth a go if your reading level is a little lacking in Chinese/Koren/Japanese.

Brilliant!. This is the only photo translation app that actually works for Chinese text. All this now needs is full Chinese language support so that its not just limited to a food/menu dictionary. Great work guys!

Poor translation. So far its provided bery poor inaccurate transalations

So inaccurate it's hilarious!. I just went on vacation to Japan (actually I'm still here now). This app translates most Japanese to "hand", "one" or just doesn't pick anything up at all. I've tried the app in poor and great lighting, with large and small text. Not once has it translated anything correctly. Seriously, you're better off searching online or using any other translation app/service.

Absolute Rubbish.. This is a complete waste of time. It couldn't get one word right. It thought chocolate milk was fish sauce, then sea weed before finally stating it was "birth control". Save your money folks, this app is not going to help you. Just use your best intuition when in Japan, we did and it worked out fine.

Waygo not. Was (relatively) happy with this app. Until i installed iOs8. Does not even open anymore. And this is the paid version. Not amused.

Not in Macau. I really want this to work. I paid for it. Yet it just doesn’t, it’s so disappointing.

It works perfectly fine. It works perfectly fine, I was skeptical at first because of all the reviews but it ok.

Pretty good, but crashes. Works pretty much like described, which us pretty amazing. Tends to crash a lot as it tries to scan tho. Would be great if you could also use a still snapshot or a photo library images to read.

Bad product. I was bought the Japanese package for a 2 week trip to Tokyo. It was a disaster of an app. It would only translate 10% of the menu items. On a Uniqlo clothing tag it translated a material as pufferfish for a pair of socks. DO NOT BUY waste of money!! Google translate worked better. I gave up on it after a few days. It was good for a few laughs

Competitors are free. This is not a bad APP, but to pay $9.99 is a tough choice to make especially in today's world when competitors like Google and BaiduTrans are free. You should consider Advertising instead.

Awesome!. Works great! Now I can read my Japanese manga!! Thanks Waygo!!

Awesome. Amazing! Works as advertized!

Bad. Totally inaccurate

Demos well. Looks like it will be very useful. Works well with IPod Touch 5th gen. It crashed occasionally. Amazing concept, nice execution

Very helpful. This is great it worked for me because I had a japan candy kit and I didn't know how to read it and I used the app and I knew what it said after. Great app👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

わるいです- awful. Tried using in my Japanese textbooks with very poor results. Even google translate is better and that’s free.

Great app. Super useful on my trip to Japan

Awesome. Works as advertised, translation often better than the English menu equivalent!

Best app to have in China. Best use is for translating restaurant menus and street signs.

Not very useful. Tried to use this app on many occasions during recent trip to Tokyo, it did not recognize the majority of the fonts used in restaurants. When it was able to translate, the translation was laughable. I would not recommend this app.

Lousy in Japanese. Not one single sign. Not one. It’s a bust.

Great app !. Easy to use. Perfect !

Google translate is free and considerably better. Used it for Korean. Doesn't recognize 90% of text. Won't even recognize the same sign consistently. Great idea, but needs a lot of work. Google Translate won't cost you $10 like this does.

Works well on printed menus. Have successfully ordered several meals from Chinese only menus. Works beautifully when items are in print on one line. Not working for blackboards but that is a small problem. Highly recommended.

Question to Waygo. Please add the Thai language next!!

Download another app. Not good

Useless. Identifies less than 5% of the words. We got farther by simply learning the words for different kinds of meat, because this app is not even capable of recognizing "beef" on a consistent basis.

Good app. Works well!. Works on everything I've pointed at if so far. Not excited about the 10 translation limit. But good app. Simpler than others like pleco.

Good. Good

CAnnot download. Wtf. Well if it was downloadable I would rate it better

Constant crash. Would really like to see this app work when it doesn't crash. iOS 6.01 iPhone 5. Cleared all apps from memory and even cold booted phone, the app won't stay running for more than a couple of secs. Please fix.

Works really well. V1.05 seems to run without crashing. Works really well on most items on a menu from a Chinese restaurant. Gets confused when English is mixed in (like X. O. Sauce). Highly recommended if you Chinese food. Waiting for improvements to handle a much larger vocabulary. Keep up the good work!

TOTAL LIFESAVER!!!. I live in Taiwan, and use this app almost every day to help read Chinese. It works on various kinds of signs, but is most reliable for menu reading. If you're going to be in any Japanese or Chinese-speaking places, YOU NEED THIS APP!

Waygo is a lifesaver!. This app is very reliable for translating Chinese menus into English. It is consistently accurate with only a rare questionable translation. It makes life so much easier in China! I highly recommend it!

Not enough features. Just like many other translator apps that try to translate every language they lack specific features to specific languages. For example, instead of just translating The word to English why not show the phonetic way to actually pronounce that word that I'm translating? So I can learn at the same time.

Life changing!. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. I have been recommending this up to everybody I know here in China. It works very well. Can't recommend it fast enough!

Very Easy. Focus the text into the view finder and the translation appears below. Since it's not always a simple word for word translation, kanji characters having meaning instead of just sound associated, the app also shows above which part of the text it's translating and possible means. Love it! Thanks!

Awesome OCR. Works great in live mode. The in-image replacement mode is clunky and not useful and mostly a gimmick so I don't use it, but the regular mode makes up for it. I wish I could click through to Pleco though since the translations aren't always that great. It's an OCR app, not a comprehensive dictionary. Pleco integration would make it awesome.

Best China Expat Tool. This by far is the best App. Surprised that it's free considering it's usefulness. This is an essential tool for those who like to try out the local places. Works well even for wall posted menus with iPhone a meter away. Wish it had the function of scanning my menu pictures inside the photo library.

No longer in the dark!. Just what this non-Chinese speaker needs as I make my way in my new home in Shanghai. I recommend upgrading because it's almost addictive translating characters to understand the environment. It's also a useful tool for language acquisition!

Almost daily use. I live in Chongqing China and use this app all the time in the local restaurants. I live by it. It has never failed me when reading a printed menu.

Great app!! Pinyin would be nice addon. I've been in China for 7 months and just found this app. Works great for most restaurant menus I've tried it on. Would love you all forever if pinyin could be added under the translations!!

Know what to order. We were able to know what to order to eat during a recent trip to China (Jan '13). Even in places with picture menu, Waygo helps you choose what meat/vegetable to order, and as it works without need of WiFi, we used it everywhere.

Amazing. This is one of those apps you don't realize you really need until you use it. It is fast, extremely accurate, and incredibly easy to use. I can't believe I've gone this long without it. Now, I can't imagine traveling without it.

Unbelievable translation app. Tried this last night at a restaurant. Worked great. Can't wait to give it a real work out next time I am in China

Innovative.. This is by far one of the most helpful and easy to use translators. The real time translations is something I haven't seen done before but it really is brilliant.

Does a great job. The application really helps us in the various places we visit in China. We now understands the written signs. We wish to have the application expanded to other languages around the world.

Slick, well designed app. Used this for a recent business venture overseas. It was very easy to use and performed translations quickly, helping me many times over the course of my trip.

Taste like Chicken. Must have for China. Knowing what I can order has greatly improved my experience in China. Gives me the confidence to order many more dishes and ends up being a good conversation piece. Thanks!

Essential app for China, Japan, Korea!!!!. Wish I would of had this years ago. It’s offline, instant translation on menus and signs. It really works, I just point it at a menu and boom I can understand everything. It’s been a life saver and all of my friends use it now. Really amazing technology, great job!

Awesome useful vision app!. Used it 100 times a day during my week in China to read street signs, store names, menus, and product descriptions. My hosts were impressed and as a by product I got to learn a little more Mandarin every time I launched the app.

Very useful while in China. It helped me tremendously while in China. There are other apps that do the same thing, but most require a data plan or wifi. This works even without data.

Cool idea, but wrong translations. Often the app has trouble reading the text. But even when it can, the translations are often hilariously off. For example, "definitely" in Japanese became "sea bream". Nice concept, but wouldn't dare to use this in real life. Also, the 10 trial translations are quickly consumed when the app is rapidly reading and translating gibberish as you center the camera on the text.

Great tool. Using for Chinese translation and works well. Only drawback is an internet connection is needed. When traveling abroad, unable to use unless on wifi.

Life Saver!!!. I live in China and this app is AMAZING! Very helpful for understanding Chinese food dishes. Only translates signs and food menus, but the app has a specific purpose and it does it well. For this purpose, there is no better app...don't bother looking elsewhere.

Essential. Living in China I use this app quite often. The real-time menu translations are fast and accurate. It performs exactly as advertised. When my friends see it they wonder how they have survived in China without it. Essential.

Intl. Product Sourcing Specialist. I've been in the international product sourcing role for the past 5 years. Waygo is easily the most helpful and quickest tool I've used when it comes to translation, for both business and pleasure, while overseas. Thank you for making my difficult job a bit easier Waygo.

Useful app. Been using this to translate books and menus from Chinese to English on the fly and it works great. Best feature is that it works off line so no need to worry about internet connections when overseas.

Not perfect, but.... Overall, an amazing technology. We didn't need to use it as much as we thought we would, but it at least gives you a general idea what the meaning is (finding out the dish is some sort of chicken, for example). Pretty cool to use.

GREAT idea - needs work!. Gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because it is such a great idea. Tried to translate a fire extinguisher sign in a Japanese apartment and got "love struck" as a translation. I know this Kanji and the translation is not accurate. I tried to use different camera angles to improve the translation...but quickly ran out of free translations. I would gladly pay double the asking price, if it worked -- but, sadly, I cannot use this app. The translations are horrible.

Also a bit disappointed. While much Japanese text is written vertically and is not easy with this app, it does seem to “work” by turning the phone horizontally, as long as you don’t mind wrenching your neck to read the screen sideways. But it really needs a rotated camera mode. I also got “corpse” a lot, but as my main sample was the title of one of my wife’s mystery books (which I can’t read, alas), “corpse” may be appropriate in this case :-)

Very Helpful. The program works a lot better than you would expect. I build a lot of Japanese model kits that come with easy to follow step by step instructions, but the side tips, color codes, and other miscellaneous information is in Japanese. I use Waygo to translate this and find it to work quite well.

Needs A LOT of work.... I currently live in Japan and look to these kinds of apps to help converting things to English. This app does NOT work very well at all. The translations are very wrong most of the time. Japanese friends have translated basic things for us and I tried this app out on things I already know the translation to, to see if it works. BIG nope haha. For example: the app translated the word dehumidifier to dry corpse??? Interesting. Don't waste your money.

Now I can read Chinese!. App keeps getting better. Better looking and smarter than ever. My go to app for practicing reading Japanese and Chinese. Hopefully, one day I can visit one of those countries and try it out in the wild.

Magical. Why didn't Waygo exist when I lived in China?! It would have been extremely helpful to me as well as to my many friends and family members whom visited. Awesome app, can't wait to see the future features you roll out!!

Amazing... Great product. I don't leave many reviews... But this product deserves a good review. Simply amazing... I wish I had something like this 5 years ago! I bought the full version after testing the trial for about 2 minutes.

If only I had had this in China!. This would have been invaluable when I visited China. Works perfectly (and instantly) on printed menus, but I only just installed it and have not yet tried it on the mysterious hand-written signs on the walls of the Chinese restaurants in my native San Francisco—that, for me, will be the acid test.

Useless for a computer. The Google of China (Baidu) offers 2TB of cloud storage and I use their app for uploading. Since it's an app and not a web page, Google can't translate the text for me, so there was some trial and error working with the software. When I came across this translation app, I hoped it would translate the text on my monitor, but alas it was incapable. However, since that isn't it's designed purpose, I can only balk so much. It would be nice to get an app that can translate other apps though. Maybe Google can expand their translation capabilities.

Great idea, if it only worked. Used this app on a recent visit to Tokyo. You have to have perfect lighting and perfect type. It doesn't seem to work with the stylized characters (w/ drop shadows or outlines) in a lot of Japanese signs. When it works, it takes a long time for the translation to appear. Which makes you look silly when you're in a crowded place. Needs to work much quicker.

Biased toward food translations. (Only used Chinese option) In general, it works very well. The live mode is an especially nice feature. However, the recognition is biased toward providing translations for food items. It does recognize basic items like "street", "hotel", "reservation", "man", etc, as well as numbers, but specific names of places are left untranslated (i.e., you can't really read a map with it).

Works pretty well. Works very well if you can find text large enough, and hold your hand steady enough. Would be nice if you could define a narrower text window for short words and also detect text in album photos instead of love camera

Finally!. I've been living and working in China since 2005 and have been looking for an app that will instantly and accurately translate Chinese phrases and characters. This is the best one out there by far.

Good but has flaws still. I'd say it's a good app, but it does have its flaws like others have mentioned. You have to have a steady hand. And currently it can only identify the simple text fonts for translations. It still has a long ways to go. But hopefully once this app is done it'll be good. But till then only 3*.

So Convenient. I'm an American living in China. I can't read Chinese. This app just makes instant camera translations great. It's so convenient. I don't have to ask ppl to translate for me again. Plus I love how you can also see the Pin Yin. So we can actually try to say it out loud. Great app. Thanks a lot.

Easy to use and accurate!!. This is a great app! I am so glad I found this app before my trip, it's works so quickly, it's intuitive, and very accurate compared to other translation tools.

Pretty handy. I didn't think it was possible for an app like this to work effectively but this app is amazingly smooth. It should come in handy for anyone like me thats trying to learn Chinese (or Korean)!

Beautiful app, beautiful translations. This app is not only correct-- it's revolutionary. It has a simple design and is very user friendly, and it can even read handwritten Chinese. All around amazing app! Thank you so much for this gift!

Love it!. This app is great! It's not always accurate, but it gets close enough. I have tried other similar apps for Japanese, but this is the only one I have found that actually works. Totally worth the money!

A happy man. This app really works wonders. Never in my life did I think I would ever be able to read those characters and app helps to do it!!!

Great app!!. I used Waygo at Chinese restaurants many times in the United States. It works great every time! I love how it shows images of the food as well, so I can get some ideas of what the food would be like. Love it!

A must for travel to China. This app is a life-saver. With it there is no need to rely on menu pictures or poorly translated menu items in restaurants. I even scanned and read the list of ingredients on snack items. Highly recommended.

Essential. With the exception of menus that are written with vertical script, this app has been essential for getting around in Taiwan and ordering dinner in various restaurants. It works very well and they're very few things I found it couldn't translate.
